Benitoite Research Paper
Benitoite is a very unique mineral that has a beautiful appearance. It is classified as metamorphic rock
which means it had to go under the metamorphic process to get into the form its in. Since this is rare
mineral there are not very many places on earth where Benitoite is found. As of right now, California
is the only place where it is found. It is the state gem of California because I believe its rarity is a
special symbol to the state. In order to find this gem, a person would have to go to the Benitoite Gem
Mine, in San Benito County, California. The main use for this mineral is for jewelry because of its
shiny blue and violet appearance. Although Benitoite is a valuable and exquisite gemstone, its
hardness as a gemstone is relatively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
BaTiSi3O9 is the chemical make up for Benitoite as shown in the picture on the first page. This means
it is made up of Barium, Titanium, and Silicon within its property. This is a relatively new mineral
found in the world. Benitoite is sometimes called the blue diamond. In the early 20th century is was
first found in a California river known as the Benito River. The people that discovered it thought it
was a sapphire or a diamond. Just looking a Benitoite gemstone, it would be easy to get them
confused. Earth has many kinds of rocks and minerals but this gemstone is the rarest of the rare.
George D. Louderback is credited for classifying Benitoite as a brand new mineral. He was heavily
into mineralogy where he actually taught classes at the University of California and later the
University of Nevada. A native to California, he was born in San Francisco and achieved a Ph.D from
the University of California in Berkley. The largest accumulation of Benitoite ever found was 15
carrots. James Couch the first person believed of discovering the beautiful new mineral in 1906. After
bringing it in to George D. Louderback, It was in fact considered a new mineral. The way they found
it was very incredible. Mr. Couch found it in a river bed with its white mother rock known as
Natrolite. This is very

Jean Anock
You are not Forgotten
There are around 550,000 people living in Johnson County Kansas (United states Census Bureau).
Most everybody has a faucet they can get to whenever they want. Most people have a pantry they can
get into everyday if they want to. Most people can go into a dresser or a clauset and pick out any
clothes that they want to wear for the day. Many people here do not realize how lucky and good they
have it. If somebody s phone cracks, or their girlfriend/boyfriend breaks up with them, they think it is
the end of the world. But I would rather have my phone crack or not get invited to that sick party than
have to walk miles a day for water or have to scrap everything you have to build a school. This is what
life is like for the ten million people living in Haiti, Africa. This is what life was like for Jean Anock
every day. Jean Anock was an 11 year old boy in 2010, he had little to start but by the end of January
12, he was going to have nothing. On a mid January day young Jean Anock was getting ready to do

it has saved thousands of lives since it started in 1995 and it has made broken forgotten kids into
strong confident leaders. When people hear about this charity I think they start to feel grateful and
lucky that they have a fridge or a faucet at home. The overall charity is a 95 out of 100 or a four star
rating they rank higher than a score of 90 in overall grade, financial grade and in accountability and
transparency. They receive these great scores because they really do help a lot of people. A good

Thanksgiving Family Research Paper
This week, families across our state are unboxing their Thanksgiving décor, choosing table cloths, and
deciding who is going to be responsible for what dish next Thursday. It s that time of the year when
we come together, forget our family drama for at least a week and get in the holiday spirit.
Unfortunately, this holiday season comes with a different taste to many. Hundreds of Iowan families
and I will share our Thanksgiving meal with uncertainty, anxiety and fear. The lives of hundreds of
families across our states are at risk. Soon, they might be subject to persecution, intimidation and
deportation. It is no surprise that the Trump administration isn t PoC, women, LGBTQ nor immigrant

Iowa has already seen what mass deportations can do that our state like the Postville Raid in 2006 and
the most recent separations of our families. This means many families that have made Iowa their
home, are no longer welcomed in the land they nurtured with their own hands.
It is concerning how folks are still telling me that he can t deport everyone and that I shouldn t take
him literally. I m not sure how I m supposed to take him when he is doing everything he promised
during his campaign. His administration s goal is to deport all of us and two of their main targets are
Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) beneficiaries.
This is not a drill nor piece of propaganda. This is my call to action to my fellow Iowans.
The Trump administration rescinded DACA on September 5, 2017. This means that the livelihood of
3,000 DACA beneficiaries living in Iowa are at risk. Many have gone to college, started a family and
help their loved ones with the help of DACA. Contrary to many beliefs, DACA recipients still can t
access health care and social security benefits even though they contribute ### to the program
annually. Trump and his administration rescinded the program and left Congress to decide what to do
with the future of undocumented Iowans with DACA. This is extremely concerning considering that
Congress has yet to pass a single piece of

The Used Car
In this negotiation, I played the role of the buyer of the car, Mazda MX – 6 from Francesco, who
played the role of the seller. The task involved negotiating for the right price for the used car.
When I was planning for the negotiation the most important criteria was that the car must certainly
have all those specifications which the 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport was offering. That is, an air
conditioning, AM/FM stereo, 6 cylinder engine and the mileage should be the same or more than the
Jeep. Also, I had firmly decided to buy the Mazda under all circumstances and not go in for the jeep,
as it would certainly turn out to be a better proposition than the jeep. Moreover, I had mentally
prepared myself for the fact that looking at the gravity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the deal was made, both of us were happy with it and therefore readily agreed to decide on the
amount $4400.
Francesco made the first offer in this negotiation process of $8000, as mentioned earlier. I think it does
matter as to who puts the first offer because the first offer has a direct impact on your opponent. If
your first offer is extremely inflated, the other person thinks on the higher side and may close the deal
at a higher price than what he had thought of initially. However, if your offer is low, the other person
will try to manipulate you in such a way that he may tend to close the deal at even a lower price that
what he had aspired for. Therefore, I would always like my opponent to make the first offer so that he
does not get pre conceived notions about me and is not able to manipulate me to a great

Racism And Hate Crimes
In the current world that we Americans live in, there is an issue with different races being oppressed,
and as those races fight to get their rights, white people don t like not being in the spotlight. White
people also like to claim that We can be racially oppressed but in reality, they can t.
I, an ethnic minority woman, cannot be racist or sexist towards white men because racism and sexism
describe structures of privilege based on race and gender and therefore women of color and minority
genders cannot be racist or sexist, since we do not stand to benefit from such a system. Bahar Mustafa

harm against men or thin bodies. Throughout American history, women have been similarly subjected
to national laws and systems created to oppress them, such as the fact that until the 19th century, a
woman did not exist as a separate entity from her father, brother or husband, and that until the 1920s,
women were denied the right to vote, to get a divorce and own property. From this came a deeply

Eisenhower was a man that never was questioned in logic and understanding. In this quote he gives
his thoughts on the mariners: Every man in this Allied command is quick to express his admiration for
the loyalty, courage, and fortitude of the officers and men of the Merchant Marine. We count upon
their efficiency and their utter devotion to duty as we do our own; they have never failed us yet and in
all the struggles yet to come we know that they will never be deterred by any danger, hardship, or
privation. When final victory is ours there is no organization that will share its credit more deservedly
than the Merchant Marine ( American Merchant Marine in World War 2 ). Along with Franklin
Roosevelt, Eisenhower understood how important the men that shipped necessary supplies around the
world were. He also goes to state that credit is rightly deserved to the merchant marine, something that
normally tends to fall more towards the navy when it comes to oceanic military efforts. However, it

A Comparison Of The Glass Menagerie
While reading Tennessee Williams play, The Glass Menagerie , readers are drawn into the drama and
disaster that is the Wingfield family. There were several different film and television versions of this
play done thru the years from 1950 to 1987. After watching several different adaptations, Paul
Newman s film adaptation in 1987 is extremely faithful to the written version. Focusing on plot,
setting, and character development the audience is introduced to a family with an austere future
structured around a series of abandonments, difficulty accepting reality and the impossibility of true
escape. Both versions begin with a narrator looking back at the past and setting the stage for what
memories will follow. The story is told in hindsight by Tom. It begins with Laura and Amanda waiting
at the dining table for Tom to join them, so they can say grace and begin the meal, showing the
audience, the family is very close and depend on each other. Throughout, readers also see constant
conflict between the mother and children, but never conflict between the siblings. For instance, when
Williams writes after an argument between Tom and Amanda; AMANDA: I won t speak to you until
you apologize! (25) then the next morning Amanda sending Laura out, so she can talk to Tom
privately to discuss Laura s future. Trying to provide security to Laura and Amanda (at Amanda s
request), Tom invites and friend, Jim, home from work to meet his sister in the hopes that he will

My Favorite Trip
Florida is a state that is very special to me. I have always enjoyed my many visits, but one trip in
particular stands out as my favorite. Ever since I was ten years old, I have enjoyed SCUBA diving
with my family. We have done it many times, and it is one of my favorite hobbies. In the Summer of
2016, my father and I took an unforgettable trip centered around it. We drove down to Fort Myers and
got aboard a dive boat headed to the Dry Tortugas, a small island chain to the west of the Keys. Not
only did we enjoy the diving and spearfishing, but we had a great time on the journey down. We began
our journey by spending a night at my grandparents house in Savannah, Georgia. Their house has
always been a constant in my life, seeming more familiar than some houses I have lived in myself. I
enjoyed visiting my family there as always, and it was great to start off the trip with such a familiar
location. The next day, we headed to Florida. We stopped by my Aunt and Uncle s house in Ocala, and
had dinner with them. It was good to see more of my family, and share a good meal with them. That
night, we drove from Ocala to Orlando, where we would spend the night. When it was finally time to
sleep, I was kept awake by my father s incredibly loud snoring in the other room. I finally fell asleep
around midnight, only to be woken up by an alarm at two in the morning. There was much commotion
in the hallway, as everyone was leaving the building by stairs. Many people were scared, as the

Warehouse Advantages And Disadvantages
3. Type of warehouse
3.1 On the basis of Structure
Warehouse are built in different ways to meet the special requirement for storage. Different
warehouses are constructed for specific goods. While selecting the types of warehouse, one has to take
into consideration the factors like the nature of goods, the quality and the climatic condition. From the
point of view of structure, the following types of warehouses are found:
 Classical Warehouses
 Silo
 Bins
 Elevator
 Portable Warehouse
 Automatic Warehouse

A public warehouse is also known as duty paid warehouse.
Public warehouses are very useful to the business community. Most of the business enterprises cannot
afford to maintain their own warehouses due to huge capital Investment. In many cases the storage
facilities required by a business enterprise do not warrant the maintenance of a private warehouse.
Such enterprises can meet their storage needs easily and economically by making use of the public
warehouses, without heavy investment.
Public warehouses provide storage facilities to small manufacturers and traders at low cost. These
warehouses are well constructed and guarded round the clock to ensure safe custody of goods. Public
warehouses are generally located near the junctions of railways, highways and waterways.
They provide, therefore, excellent facilities for the easy receipt, despatch, loading and unloading of
goods. They also use mechanical devices for the handling of heavy and bulky goods. A public
warehouse enables a businessman to serve his customers quickly and economically by carrying
regional stocks near the important trading centres or markets of two

The Effect Of Concentration On Rate Of Reaction With...
How does changing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid affect its rate of reaction with Sodium
Thiosulphate?
Introduction/aim the aim of this experiment is to see how changing the concentration of hydrochloric
acid would change its rate of reaction with Sodium Thiosulphate. This was done by changing the
concentration of Hydrochloric acid to 4 different concentrations and adding them to the same amount
of sodium thiosulphate. This is done in different beakers that will previously be placed over a piece of
paper marked with an x. Once the reaction fully takes place, the x would no longer be visible therefore
the time it takes for the x to no longer be visible is our dependent variable.
Hypothesis the hypothesis is that as the concentration is increased, the rate of reaction will increase,
but the time will decrease. This is because if the concentration is higher, there will be more of the
sodium thiosulphate, therefore the reaction will take less time as the two mixtures will collide at a
higher frequency. The trend in the graphs that will be later plotted will not be directly proportional.
Graph 1 ( concentration vs time ) has a negative correlation and graph 2 ( concentration vs rate ) has a
positive correlation. This is because as the concentration is increased the time will decrease, that s why
graph 1 will have a negative correlation. Graph 2 will have a positive correlation as rate will be
1/time, therefore the graph flips. Neither of the graphs will be directly

Stephen s Representation Of Identity In Fried Green Tomatoes
Much like the accepting people of Whistlestop, Stephen s father also shows a level of curiosity and
acceptance for his child, by reading about inversion and listening to her concerns. Stephen s mother s
rejection of her is a striking blow, especially after the death of her father. Stephen s mother contends
that she is unnatural, (63; 182) and unbalanced (183), in a scene very similar to the trial in Fried Green
Tomatoes. Yet, when Stephen finds her father s book on inversion and finally has a name to put to her
experiences, it is a moment of clarity that makes her hopeful and also makes readers hopeful about the
future of our understanding of LGBT identities. Stephen is able to move on and have a relationship

Transgender people and nonbinary or gender nonconforming people may all relate to Stephen and see
part of themselves in her. At times they may relate to her loneliness, but hopefully she mostly
represents a positive model for them, showing them that even in the early twentieth century and before
there were people like them, living their lives and trying to understand themselves. In her essay,
Making her (In)Visible: Cultural Representations of Lesbianism and the Lesbian Body in the 1990s,
Ann Ciasullo opens with an anecdote about the Jerry Springer show and its dramatic and damaging
representation of lesbianism. Ciasullo elaborates that 1990s television and media was saturated with
images of lesbian women, but they were not always good representations. Lesbianism was a trendy
topic and lesbian characters were used as novelties. She states, but of course, the novelty status
accorded to lesbians belies their long and difficult struggle for positive representation (577 578). The
essay goes on to explore many facets of lesbian identities, including butch and femme gender
performance and ways in which lesbian women s images are sanitized to be more acceptable in
mainstream media. Because there are no vivid sex scenes for Ruth and Idgie or Stephen and Mary in
Fried Green Tomatoes and The Well of Loneliness, respectively, some readers do find those texts to be
sanitized, but for others, these texts show these women as normal people whose entire identity isn t
defined by this one part of themselves. Idgie rescues Ruth from abuse and they work hard at the cafe
and become well known for helping the homeless people who were struck the hardest by the Great
Depression. Stephen serves in the first World War and is a successful writer.

Who Is The Puritans In The Crucible
In today s world, people are very accepting. However in early America, Puritans pushed others to be
perfect which resulted in pressure. Puritan literature such as: The Scarlet Letter, the Crucible, and the
speech, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God are some of the most popular of this genre. The Scarlet
Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a story of a women who made a fatal mistake and had to
pay for it by public shaming. The Crucible is a play by Arthur Miller written of a town in hysteria
because of a false belief of witches. Lastly, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, by Jonathan
Edwards, is a speech given that started the Great Awakening using fear to convert the Puritans from
their evil ways. Throughout these pieces, it is obvious that there is correct and incorrect ways for
people to deal with others sins. In early America, Puritans dealt with it incorrectly because of clouded
judgment from fear, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his sermon, Edwards produced fear of God in the Puritans by showing the fiery floods of the
fierceness and wrath of God that will rain down on them if they continued in their sin ( Edwards 2).
He showed the power that God has on these people. God only had not let His great waters come down
on them because of his great mercy and love (2). The speech described that the waters are constantly
rising and waxing more and more mighty; and there is nothing but mere pleasure of God that holds the
waters back (2). As people keep on sinning, God s wrath was risen and it was only God s love and
grace that kept the people from death. Edwards stated that only if they repented would God s anger not
throw them into hell. Edwards convinced the people to have a change of heart because the fear of

The Inside A Long Corridor

INVESTIGATION ON TURNING PARAMETERS ON MACHINING TIME AND VIBRATION OF
CARBON FIBER REINFORCED LAMINATES ABSTRACT: This work proposes the investigation
of machining time and vibration characteristics of machining differently oriented unidirectional
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP). The carbon fibers are oriented at 0, 45, 90 degrees during
stacking process of laminate. The turning experiments are carried out in Siemens CNC Lathe to
investigate best operating conditions. There are 9 experiments based on Taguchi s L9 orthogonal array
are performed. The machining parameters are Spindle Speed, Feed and Depth of cut and the output
responses are machining time and amplitude of vibration. The predication models are developed using
ANOVA. To find the best value of the regression model, a real time coded Genetic Algorithm (GA)
using Turbo C++ and MATLAB tool box GA are used. The result indicated that predicted models are
significant and the real time coded GA produced best value. KEYWORDS: Turning, Genetic

obligations to her family got in the way of actually writing a book. She is unendingly bitter about how
her life turned out. Margaret urges readers to ignore the pull of outside forces and to specifically
ignore the pull of sex, which she claims ruined her life. However, between the lines Masters cleverly
shows that the blame for dreams unrealized lie with Margaret herself. Through Margaret s story,
Masters studies how a person can cause their own unsuccess and still genuinely blame everyone but
herself. From the very beginning, Margaret establishes herself as a very talented writer, full of
potential. Masters introduces Margaret in three names: first, maiden, and last. Most women in the
Spoon River Anthology are introduced in two, sometimes even taking their husband s full name
instead of their own. Here, he has Margaret grouping herself in with other famous women writers,
such as Harriet Beecher Stowe, as then modern women authors who had individuality but who still
respected the tradition of taking on their husband s last name. Moreover, in the first line Margaret
declares that she would have been as great as George Eliot, who one of the leading writers of
Victorian England,

Exile In Jane Eyre
Abandoned, abused, alone three terrible words in today s culture, especially when grouped together. In
her classic novel, Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte crafts a character that is all of these; however, Jane Eyre
is able to overcome all the difficulties of her childhood. Throughout the character of Jane Eyre,
Charlotte Bronte reveals even when left abandoned, abused, alone and exiled from familiar
surroundings, one can still discover happiness in a life of one s own.
At a young age, Jane learns to recognize joy in the little moments of her life, even while being abused

The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell
Many phenomena exist within the world; whether it be the butterfly effect, the small world theory, or
even the laws of gravity, these entities shape reality. In the book The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell
analyzes an effect he coins the tipping point . The tipping point essentially is the point at which small,
seemingly insignificant changes become significant enough to cause a large and often times important
change . Throughout the text of this novel, Gladwell explores this notion more in depth; he utilizes
real world examples such as the re emergence of Hush Puppies, a popular footwear item, and dissects
the epidemic of the syphilis outbreak in Baltimore, Maryland in order to achieve this purpose. The
underlying principles in The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His ability to make relationships and acquire information made him the best person to take the role as
initial adopter. The qualities of Paul Revere allowed him to initialize a complete cascade in his
network of early American settlers during his Midnight Ride . The final connection between The
Tipping Point and diffusion in relation to the Law of the Few deals with the importance of weak ties.
Weak ties allow for information to be relayed across clusters of a network. Without the appearance of
weak ties, diffusion would be rather difficult to accomplish. The prime example of an individual who
possessed many weak ties goes by the name Roger Horchow. In The Tipping Point, Horchow is a
master at creating relationships and bonds in areas of life in which he had no real expertise. Horchow
had social connections in the arts, technology, agriculture, architecture, business, law, health care, and
any other occupational field . Horchow and his social connections were edges in which information
could be passed along seamlessly from one cluster to another, making the possibility of a complete
cascade much more probable regarding diffusion. Besides the Law of the Few, Gladwell attributes the
occurrence of a tipping point and its relation to diffusion with the Law of Stickiness as well.
The Law of Stickiness bases much of its philosophy upon the notion that there are certain factors that

The parents reported that their child s pre and post natal development was normal without illness or
injury. However, as an infant/toddler, he had been difficult to soothe when upset and demanded
constant attention which his parents found difficult to manage.
Twelve months before attending the agency the client began to demonstrate increasing levels of
anxiety. This anxiety commenced with significant difficulties being separated from his mother or
father at home, to go to school, stay with family and play with friends. The parents said the client s
behaviours included clinging on to them and chasing after them as they were leaving the house or
school. He would also check their location in the house to confirm that they were still there. On
occasion his behaviour deteriorated into tantrums, although this only happened at home. The parents
also expressed concern that the boy s teacher noticed he was refusing to eat at school. The parents also
reported their child was unable to get to sleep without their presence. He would awaken with
nightmares at least three times a week saying he was frightened something bad was happening to
them. The parents stated that it was becoming increasingly difficult for them to manage their son s
behaviour.
The client s parents reported that there was no known family history of anxiety and depression on
either side of their family.

Transcendentalism And Its Impact On Society
He taught himself to read and write by forming letters in charcoal on the kitchen floorboards (Brown).
He strove to teach himself so that he could be a teacher to others as his revolutionary ideas on
education changed how we look at education even today. He began to dive more and more into the
world of Transcendentalism. He was a husband a father and a teacher who created a wave through
America that still has rippling effects today. Much more came out of this movement including his
effect that he had on his daughter who herself spread transcendental ideas through her writings. This
man was Amos Bronson Alcott, and he was a reformer of society looking to abide by Transcendental
beliefs. Alcott played one of the biggest roles in causing Transcendentalism to be still present today as
he embodies the ideals behind Transcendentalism. Alcott took the philosophies of Thoreau and
Emerson and instilled them into the world of the educational system by adding many different
activities to the curriculum, stressing self reliance and self sacrifice to his students and his daughter.
Alcott did his best to support his family, but his lecturing and writing were limited in their
effectiveness. He understood that what he was doing was an attempt to better society, and he followed
the Transcendental ideal of non conformity. The driving force of Transcendentalism was in fact the
people that felt these ideals were best for society. Men like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David

How Reganomics Destroyed Middle Class America
How Reaganomics Destroyed the Middle Class Reaganomics are the economic policies that were set
and promoted in 1980s by the U.S. President Ronald Reagan. These policies are mainly connected to
trickle down economics. There are four pillars that are associated with the economic policy of Reagan
and they include: reduce government economic regulation, reduce growth of how much the
government spends, reduce the marginal tax rates such as capital gains tax and income tax and lastly
reduce the level of inflation by controlling money supply growth. These four policies were expected to
increase investment and savings, balance the U.S. budget, reduce inflation, increase the economic
growth rate, restore healthy financial markets and reduce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government decided to fund government organizations such as Environmental Protection Agency
instead of funding the social security (Barone 120). This means that the department was left without
funds hence there was no money that could be used to pay those who were working in the social
security majority of which were middle class people. This shows how the middle class people were
destroyed as a result of Reaganomics which forced the middle class people to pay more taxes. In the
end of his two terms as the president of the U.S., 5% of the population which comprise of the rich had
received double wealth and economic share of ownership while 95% of the population which
comprise of the middle class people and the poor had no progress when it comes to immersion of
wealth instead they had lost more of their wealth due to inflation and high tax rates (Barone 120).
Nevertheless, the social security meant to benefit the rich poor since they were the ones who owned
property. The middle class people did not obtain any form of social security thus were forced to
protect their own wealth.
Unregulated economy: the main reason why Reaganomics policy was implemented was to stimulate
economic growth. In the beginning, the policy managed to stimulate economic growth but this was as
a result of increased spending among the middle class people and not as a result of tax cuts.

Comparing Duracell Army Adisement And A ToyR. Military...
Many advertisements used today can have similar main ideas, but use details that are opposites. Even
with these differences they can have the ability to get similar points across. This is especially true for
the two advertisements that I chose. I chose to do a Duracell military advertisement and a Toys R Us
military advertisement. Both used pathos (emotion) to appeal to consumers. The advertisements
included a family consisting of two parents and one young child making the main target audience of
both ordinary families, specifically military families with children. The Duracell military
advertisement appeals to the viewer s emotion. In the commercial it starts with a military father sitting
in his bunk with a little stuffed teddy bear. He places the Duracell batteries into a recorder, speaks into
it to record a message, and then places the message in the bear. The setting changes to the inside of a
home with a mother and her daughter. They have a package and inside is the teddy bear. The little girl
squeezes the bear and hears her father s voice, which causes the mother to show a look of sadness and
longing. The little girl takes the bear with her everywhere, making it obvious that she misses her father
very much and just wants him to return home. The sadness seemed to turn to anger when he didn t
come home, and she started to neglect the teddy bear. One day she was sitting across from her bear
and she hears her father s voice. At first she thinks that it is coming

Alexander the Great was one of the most prominent leaders on the battlefield. His war tactics and

Near a small village of Gaugamela in present day Iraq, two powerful empires engaged in a battle;
Persia and Macedon. The Macedonian army was one fifth the size of Persia s. Alexander risked
everything on this one battle, if he wins the richest empire on the planet is his and if he loses 45,000
men will be slaughtered and Greece would be open to invasion. Alexander the Great was confident
and he did not care less. With his war tactics and strategies he knew he could pull out one of the most
fascinating victories of all time. Darius II had laid out his battle line in a tremendous challenge for his
opponents; two and half mile long. Alexander the Great was overlapped by a half a mile from each
side which made it possible for Darius s cavalry to go from both sides. Alexander the Great thought of
it as hard challenge but his complex tactics could not let him down. The Macedonian Phalanx was
probably the most potent weapon of war in the ancient world; 256 men arranged 16 across by 16 deep.
The spears were around 15 to 18 feet long. The Phalanx formation was deadly and overwhelming. The
Phalanx was arranged with the left side facing outward away from the battle expecting an attack from
the side. Running on foot are the cultists; Alexander the Great s light infantry. Cultists would be all
over the battlefield, they would have a variety of weapons. They used short range arrows, javelins and
sling shots. These weapons were important as they would hit high value targets such as the chariot
groups. The cultists was one of Alexander s key strategies to win the battle. Darius II released his
powerful weapon; the chariots. Alexander the Great knew it was coming, he taught his phalanx army a
brilliant tactic to defeat them. He taught his men to trap the chariot, it is called; the mousetrap. A horse
would never go towards a line of men holding sharp spears, so if you open

shows audiences the love between two old men could be so simple, just like love between a man and a

being able to living together. The film is focus on normal life of two old men. Few of studio films
want to talk about life trivia, which studio are not interested in. But we can see it is some trivial and

The Indigenous People of Alaska
Alaska is different. When compared to the contiguous United States of America the differences are
pronounced and occur in almost all aspects of life. The differences even extend to the original
inhabitants, to the way they survived, treaties with the United States government, current way of life,
and education. An overview of the historical approach to education as well as the current changes will
hopefully provide insight into what works and what does not work in educational settings in rural
Alaska. Alaska is large. With a land mass of one third the side of the rest of the United States it dwarfs
Texas, the second largest state, by over two and half times. The twenty six smallest states combined
are still smaller than Alaska. Alaska s coastline is over 33,000 miles, many times longer than the
coastline of the remaining United States. Alaska is the most northern, western and eastern state. It is
filled with natural resources. People around the world identify Alaska with the midnight sun, oil fields,
Denali, Salmon and the mighty Yukon. Yet with plenty of resources and all of that room, in 2000, the
population of Alaska was only 710,321 (Alaska, 2014). Combined with Alaska s size this results in a
population density of 1.2 persons per square mile, the least dense of any state. 565,077 of those

Reflection On A Separate Peace
To Be Human: A Separate Peace Reflection Compassion plays a significant role in everyone s lives: it
is what parents teach their children from a young age, it is how human kindness is forwarded, it is how
people make friends and fall in love. It is simultaneously what fuels the lives of individuals and what
shapes the lives of those around them. In times of war or united struggle, though, compassion becomes
harder to come by. John Knowles, author of the historical fiction novel A Separate Peace,
demonstrates the toll war takes on one s soul through it s main character, Gene Forrester. As World
War II continues amidst the events Gene encounters at Devon School, the reader observes Gene s
transformation into an apathetic human being through his distrusting of others, actions towards his
peer, Leper, and his response to his best friend s death. Gene s descent of character makes Knowles
personal perspective on war clear as well: it either kills you or kills your mind. Though A Separate
Peace follows Gene s life as a junior at Devon School and not as a soldier on the front line, much of
Gene and his peers average school day revolves around the war. Considering such a state of mind, of
course Gene s life parallels the life of a soldier. One of the most striking similarities between Gene s
life and a World War II soldier s is their loss of compassion amongst tragedy. Like a soldier, Gene
entered his battlefield Devon School with his emotions intact and a healthy bulk of

The Role Of Radical Feminism In The United States
Women have fought oppression in the past, and are still considered fighting today. Feminism has
become very popular in the United States. Equality of the sexes has been accomplished in many areas,
yet equality is only the beginning for radical feminists in the Untied States. The idea of equality of the
sexes has been twisted into the fantasy of women as the dominant gender.
Feminism is defined as the belief of equality among the sexes, socially, politically, and economically.
The idea of feminism originated as early as 18th century France, and continued to grow with women s
public actions to acquire individual liberties in the 19th and 20th Centuries (The Roots Of The Word
Feminism ). For areas such as the Middle East, China, and France, feminism was a large rigorous

for their right to vote.Still active today, feminists wish to end the concept of men being the dominate

À la carte Product Development.
The concept of having re usable software and hardware components which can be used for product
developments have been in vogue for quite some time but in form of frameworks conforming to
different standards which need good learning time from their users perspective. À la carte Product
Development aims at having a single portal which can span across the lifecycle of product
development. The portal would have all the interactions and modules that can be made available as a

The thought process aims to bring down new product development to something as simple as selecting
client interfacing UI pages, logging services, databases, cloud based hardware infrastructure, support
management workflows, weekly maintenance activities as simple services which can be selected from
a list in the dropdown of the menu at the À la carte Product Development portal . Once a confirmation
to avail these services in the product is entered, the hardware and software modules would auto
configure and export to produce a ready to deploy application.
The process of having loosely coupled hardware and software components help in making the

It is why risk management has assumed a higher significance as well as greater importance than it had
some years ago. (Butcher, 2011) This change is mainly driven by the instability and convolution of the

growing. Companies are now also moving towards appointing a Chief Risk Officer. In many
companies, this responsibility is assigned to the CEO.
In recent changes a few things have become important for companies. The first is connecting risk to
business performance. Companies need to establish processes and mechanisms which link risk to
business performance. Risk management under the present scenario also includes measures like
sophisticated measurement, modeling and analytics for anticipating risks as well as integrating risk
management capabilities with the organizational structure and across business units. Similarly,
developing relationships with regulatory agencies as well as supervising regulation and compliance
has also become important. (Butcher, 2011) Apart from all, detailed training on risk management and
infusing risk awareness across the organization is also important. In short, integrating the risk function
to include it in strategic planning has become crucial to gaining sustainable advantage. During the

Welfare Recipients Abusing the System
The welfare faults
America spends an annual amount of 131.9 billion dollars on welfare alone (Department of
Commerce). So many facts about welfare are overwhelming, such that over 12,800,000 Americans are
on the welfare system. The entire social welfare system is in desperate need of a complete reform. In
order for a proper reform to ensue, the people of America must combine efforts with the U.S.
government to revitalize the current welfare system. This reform would involve answering two
important questions. First, how has today s welfare system strayed from its original state and secondly,
how is the system abused by welfare holders in today s economy? As of January 1, 2014, roughly
4.1% of Americans are welfare, which is not what the system was designed to do (Department of
Commerce). Welfare was originally created in the 1930 s during the Great Depression in order to aid
to citizens with little to no income (welfareinfo.org). It was a response to the great number of people
without jobs and who desperately needed assistance with money and basic needs such as food and
shelter (welfareinfo.org). For the next 61 years the United States government would hold control of
the welfare system (welfareinfo.org). According to the Department of Commerce, 46,700,000
Americans are on food stamps (Department of Commerce). The Department of Commerce divided
welfare recipients into categories of race finding that, 39.8% of welfare holders are African American

Rhetorical Analysis Of George Thoreau s Letter From...
Thoreau and King use many similar strategies in their writings. One uses these strategies to make their
piece more effective. King s persuasive letter to the clergyman, Letter from Birmingham Jail was far
more effective than Thoreau s Lecture On the Duty of Civil Disobedience directed towards americans
ready to change things, and here is why. King s article was more effective because he strives towards
tugging on the audience s heartstrings rather than the logical side, his repetition proved to be more
effective, he has a unique organizational structure, King stays more on topic, and was more passionate
about his disquisition.
King uses pathos in his piece, for starters, while Thoreau uses more of a logical approach. Right off
the bat, in Letter from Birmingham Jail, King writes a lengthy sentence describing the unfortunate
events him and his colored peers go through on a daily basis. King uses pathos in this sentence gaining
more emphasis as the sentence goes on making the audience (who, keep in mind, are clergyman) feel
sympathy towards King and the black community. King uses examples of how the colored are treated
stating, for example, But when you have seen vicious mobs lynch your mothers and fathers at will and
drown your sisters and brothers at whim;[...] (264;Par.14) progressing slowly showing more and more
emphasis on his emotional side of things until he finally says [W]hen you are forever fighting a

tough times of the Great Depression and World War II. Franklin D. Roosevelt was the man who was
capable to lead the country through these challenging times. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the
adored only child of James and Sara Delano Roosevelt born on January 30, 1882 at Hyde Park, New
York. Both sides of the family, the Delano and the Roosevelt had business associates of shipping
interests in coal and railroads. They both had long English Dutch patrician pedigrees (Franklin D.
Roosevelt 1). The estate where Franklin grew up had everything that a boy could want. There were
devoted servants; fields and woods to play in and horse, dogs, ... Show more content on

Franklin came down with polio while at Campobello for summer vacation. Poliomyelitis (polio) is
disease that affects the muscle and the nerves and can lead to partial or full paralysis. Symptoms of
polio include fever, muscle spasms, and muscle pain. The treatment is heat pads to reduce pain,
therapy and pain killers. Franklin was paralyzed from the chest down at first than the disease relaxed
and only paralyzed him from the hips down. No one knew how polio was contracted. It may have
been because of the exhausting weeks with the Navy Administration or from the chill he received after
falling in to a cold bay while fishing. It also may have been the combo of tiredness and the chill
(Tugwell 56). Doctors were called for a diagnosis and each time they gave a wrong diagnosis. It wasn
t until two weeks after contracting the disease that a specialist gave a correct diagnosis and it was two
weeks after the specialist came that Franklin was transported to New York for therapy (57). He was so
determined to overcome his disability that he devoted seven years of his life to grueling physical
therapy (Goodwind 109). But unfortunately he would never walk again without the help of steel
braces on his legs and a strong arm to lean on.
As Franklin was recovering Eleanor really became important to Franklin as his representative. She
made appearances to keep his name in public so that the people and the political party

Competitive Advantage Of Zara
Initially, the efficient supply chain of the business is a good method to enhance its competitive
position. Supply chain refers to those associated operations and activities for converting inputs to
outputs. Such activities contain issues of operations, marketing and supply (Han, 2008). High level of
combination within the chain is the best method to get competitive benefit. Zara Company achieved
matchless success in having powerful supply chain. This company owns numerous branches all
around the world. In this essay, we will discuss supply chain of Zara, Zara s Fast Fashion distribution
system, and role of vertical and horizontal analysis in making competitive advantage for business. In
the case of Zara, we find that Supply chain contains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Enforcement of such system fast fashion is too good in decreasing the time of production. This is clear
in the case of Zara as recognizing the required fashion and applying or producing it in a short period
of time less than two weeks. This is too good for forming rapid answer for all clients requirements,
and so keeping clients satisfied. This system of fast fashion also helped Zara to produce more effective
styles. This included the production of 11,000 items, while in case of rivals we find that Gap produced
only 4,000 items, and H M produced only 2000 items. Moreover, the adopting of such system helped
the company reduce level of supply scant quantities , and this is too effective for satisfying clients as
they wear a unique model. All those issues helped Zara to support its name in the market, and so
despite of the different disadvantages, we find that Zara will

The Coach Research Paper
Sports are a form of entertainment, whether it is playing them or watching them. Yet part of the
entertainment is also the audience. The fans can have a large impact on the game itself as well as your
experience. We all have that one friend who is way too competitive, whether it involves sports or just
who finishes eating first. They cannot choose what things to be competitive at, for that nature is in
their blood. The Coach is the most competitive player out of the fans. In a game, you will scarcely, see
them sit down, and they are so competitive that they act as if they are actually playing the game. They
could be sitting as high as the nosebleed seats and shouting at the players, telling them what to do, as
if the players could somehow hear them. Yet they are being obnoxious to the people around them, for,
unfortunately, they can hear them quite clearly. Coaches are essentially the backseat drivers of sports.
The next fan we have is the complete opposite of a Coach, hence the quotation marks. Phonies come
for the experience, not for the game. Phonies often come wearing all of the team s gear, yet it is all for
the aesthetics and for the sports façade. You may think that the game is on their phone because that is
what they ll spend most of their time watching. Unlike the Coach, others will not notice or pay much
attention to Phonies, yet you will know they were there because it will be posted on social media or
other public accounts. Coaches tend to be stubborn and close minded, so not much bothers them.
Except for the Rookie. Rookies are the bane of Coaches. Unlike Phonies, they are genuinely interested
in the game. Unfortunately, they know little to nothing about the sport, and the people to suffer are the
ones like Coaches. They are constantly asking questions about how it works and what s going on in
the game, preventing others from fully enjoying and experiencing the game. Unlike Coaches, Rookies
do not bother the rest of the fans, but only the ones they are close with. One good thing about Rookies
is that they are honest. Followers also are not completely familiar with the game, yet they try to be
discreet about it. They go with the flow of the crowd, yet you

Constructivism And The Theory Of Constructivism
We have all been guilty of doing it, making assumptions about someone based on what we have seen
or been through. We see a person or an object and classify it as tall, wealthy, ugly, pretty, etc.
Categorizing what we see can be helpful but sometimes it can lead to stereotyping. But why do we
make assumptions? The theory of Constructivism can help us understand why we categorize things we
see into constructs and how these constructs can be harmful and how they can benefit or hurt us when
we communicate with others. The theory of constructivism helps explain how meaning can be
developed through interactions we have. The basis of the theory was started by George Kelly who was
a main author in the Personal Construct Theory. This theory discussed insight and how it can be
gained by people s interactions and perceptions and how they use their observations to make
attributions. It claimed that individuals understand the world around them by organizing and
recognizing people and events by their personal constructs they create. Personal constructs can be
explained as sets of opposites into which objects are classified (Lee 2016) such as rich poor, cheap
expensive, etc. This helped pave the way for constructivism, which reasons that people classify their
experiences into groups so they can help give meaning to it and can make sense of the situation.
According to Jessie Delia (1982), one of the main leaders in the theory, action is guided by context
relevant interactions and

Mexican Women in Mexican Revolution
Richard Falcon wonderfully directs the play Soladeras , by Ruben Amavizca Murua, It is stated in the
Play Bill that Richard Falcon is considered an actors director because he knows how to draw the best
out of his talent. Unlike most artists, he has an understanding of what it takes to collaborate and
implement programs successfully . For which he profoundly displayed in this production. He and the
actresses do an impeccable acuratcy in dipicting diversity during the Mexican Revolution. The acting
was like a welcoming zepher of wind during any season.
Powerful, yet comforting. Humiliating, yet humbling. I felt as though I were reliving the engagments
in each act, and as if I were apart of the political front line, yet, behind the narrarative scenes. The
encapsulating, heart renching stories behind each womans history is one that is effervescent, and
resounding today in every ethnic culture, and understatedly in tomorrows society. Stories of thirteen
year old girls, and wives being raped, tradgedy of husbands dying, never ending struggles for social
equality, the felonies of racial disparagies, predudices, and abuse. These women also alternated
between provider roles of cook, launderer, companion, housekeeper, child bearer, educator, councilor,
and fought for the Revolutionary cause wether via a social voice or, physically in battle, and much
much more. Ironically, some of the women were abused by their companions and raped by opossing

Oil Shale
United States, China and Russia are the top 3 producers of Oil shale in the world. Oil shale is
important because of its usage and economical factor , It can be transformed or treated into diesel and
jet fuels or petrol. Oil shale was deposited in the Songlio Basin(NE china) during the upper cretaceous
period, representing an excellent hydrocarbon source of rocks. By definition Oil shale also knows as

molecular composition of OM is very important, it gives us data on everything(thermal history of
sedimentary basins, environmental condition like water salinity and climate and finally the type and
origin of OM(Organic matter). Geochemical evidence for marine transgressional occurrence during
the deposition of oil shale sequences in the Qingshankou Formation of the Songliao Basin had been
provided by the study of biomarker. The predominance of type I kerogen and a low maturity of OM

Summary 2008 Financial Crisis
The financial crisis began in early 2006 when the subprime mortgage market in the U.S. began to
display an increasing rate of mortgage defaults. These defaults lead, in late 2006, to a decline in US
housing prices after nearly a decade of exceptionally high growth. Many Americans watched as their
primary source of wealth become increasingly devalued. By late 2007, the prime mortgage markets
were showing higher than normal default rates as well.
Collateralized Mortgage Obligations (CMOs), a type of collateralized debt obligations (CDOs),
allowed these problems to spread from the mortgage market to other sectors of the economy, having
especially widespread effects on financial markets as a whole. CMOs were mortgage backed securities

These liquidity problems turned to insolvency in September of 2008, when private lending froze
completely in a number of important credit markets, such as commercial paper. As a result, non
financial businesses were unable to get access to the financing they required to function normally,
leading to problems in the real economy.
The real economy began to exhibit problems related to the financial crisis as early as March 2006,
when investment expenditure on residential structures began to decline. In early 2008, this decline
spread to investment in business equipment and consumer spending on durable goods. It wasn t until
the summer of 2008 that consumer spending broadly and GDP began falling, signs of a recession. (In
December 2008, the National Bureau of Economic Research, official arbiter of business cycles dated
the formal beginning of the recession as December 2007.) While the public had been concerned about
recession for much of the year, it wasn t until the fall that the economy began to decline at more than a
6% annual rate. Congress responded by passing the TARP plan to assist failing financial institutions.
This plan was meant to decrease the severity of the recession by treating its cause: the financial crisis.
The financial crisis and recession in the U.S.

  • 2. Benitoite Research Paper Benitoite is a very unique mineral that has a beautiful appearance. It is classified as metamorphic rock which means it had to go under the metamorphic process to get into the form its in. Since this is rare mineral there are not very many places on earth where Benitoite is found. As of right now, California is the only place where it is found. It is the state gem of California because I believe its rarity is a special symbol to the state. In order to find this gem, a person would have to go to the Benitoite Gem Mine, in San Benito County, California. The main use for this mineral is for jewelry because of its shiny blue and violet appearance. Although Benitoite is a valuable and exquisite gemstone, its hardness as a gemstone is relatively ... In the early 20th century is was first found in a California river known as the Benito River. The people that discovered it thought it was a sapphire or a diamond. Just looking a Benitoite gemstone, it would be easy to get them confused. Earth has many kinds of rocks and minerals but this gemstone is the rarest of the rare. George D. Louderback is credited for classifying Benitoite as a brand new mineral. He was heavily into mineralogy where he actually taught classes at the University of California and later the University of Nevada. A native to California, he was born in San Francisco and achieved a Ph.D from the University of California in Berkley. The largest accumulation of Benitoite ever found was 15 carrots. James Couch the first person believed of discovering the beautiful new mineral in 1906. After bringing it in to George D. Louderback, It was in fact considered a new mineral. • 3. Jean Anock You are not Forgotten There are around 550,000 people living in Johnson County Kansas (United states Census Bureau). Most everybody has a faucet they can get to whenever they want. Most people have a pantry they can get into everyday if they want to. Most people can go into a dresser or a clauset and pick out any clothes that they want to wear for the day. Many people here do not realize how lucky and good they have it. If somebody s phone cracks, or their girlfriend/boyfriend breaks up with them, they think it is the end of the world. But I would rather have my phone crack or not get invited to that sick party than have to walk miles a day for water or have to scrap everything you have to build a school. This is what life is like for the ten million people living in Haiti, Africa. This is what life was like for Jean Anock every day. Thanksgiving Family Research Paper This week, families across our state are unboxing their Thanksgiving décor, choosing table cloths, and deciding who is going to be responsible for what dish next Thursday. It s that time of the year when we come together, forget our family drama for at least a week and get in the holiday spirit. Unfortunately, this holiday season comes with a different taste to many. Hundreds of Iowan families and I will share our Thanksgiving meal with uncertainty, anxiety and fear. The lives of hundreds of families across our states are at risk. It is concerning how folks are still telling me that he can t deport everyone and that I shouldn t take him literally. I m not sure how I m supposed to take him when he is doing everything he promised during his campaign. His administration s goal is to deport all of us and two of their main targets are Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) beneficiaries. This is not a drill nor piece of propaganda. This is my call to action to my fellow Iowans. The Trump administration rescinded DACA on September 5, 2017. This means that the livelihood of 3,000 DACA beneficiaries living in Iowa are at risk. Many have gone to college, started a family and help their loved ones with the help of DACA. Contrary to many beliefs, DACA recipients still can t access health care and social security benefits even though they contribute ### to the program annually. Trump and his administration rescinded the program and left Congress to decide what to do with the future of undocumented Iowans with DACA. • 5. The Used Car In this negotiation, I played the role of the buyer of the car, Mazda MX – 6 from Francesco, who played the role of the seller. The task involved negotiating for the right price for the used car. When I was planning for the negotiation the most important criteria was that the car must certainly have all those specifications which the 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport was offering. That is, an air conditioning, AM/FM stereo, 6 cylinder engine and the mileage should be the same or more than the Jeep. Also, I had firmly decided to buy the Mazda under all circumstances and not go in for the jeep, as it would certainly turn out to be a better proposition than the jeep. Francesco made the first offer in this negotiation process of $8000, as mentioned earlier. If your first offer is extremely inflated, the other person thinks on the higher side and may close the deal at a higher price than what he had thought of initially. However, if your offer is low, the other person will try to manipulate you in such a way that he may tend to close the deal at even a lower price that what he had aspired for. There were several different film and television versions of this play done thru the years from 1950 to 1987. After watching several different adaptations, Paul Newman s film adaptation in 1987 is extremely faithful to the written version. Focusing on plot, setting, and character development the audience is introduced to a family with an austere future structured around a series of abandonments, difficulty accepting reality and the impossibility of true escape. Both versions begin with a narrator looking back at the past and setting the stage for what memories will follow. The story is told in hindsight by Tom. It begins with Laura and Amanda waiting at the dining table for Tom to join them, so they can say grace and begin the meal, showing the audience, the family is very close and depend on each other. • 10. My Favorite Trip Florida is a state that is very special to me. I have always enjoyed my many visits, but one trip in particular stands out as my favorite. Ever since I was ten years old, I have enjoyed SCUBA diving with my family. We have done it many times, and it is one of my favorite hobbies. In the Summer of 2016, my father and I took an unforgettable trip centered around it. We drove down to Fort Myers and got aboard a dive boat headed to the Dry Tortugas, a small island chain to the west of the Keys. Not only did we enjoy the diving and spearfishing, but we had a great time on the journey down. We began our journey by spending a night at my grandparents house in Savannah, Georgia. Their house has always been a constant in my life, seeming more familiar than some houses I have lived in myself. I enjoyed visiting my family there as always, and it was great to start off the trip with such a familiar location. The next day, we headed to Florida. We stopped by my Aunt and Uncle s house in Ocala, and had dinner with them. It was good to see more of my family, and share a good meal with them. That night, we drove from Ocala to Orlando, where we would spend the night. When it was finally time to sleep, I was kept awake by my father s incredibly loud snoring in the other room. • 13. The Effect Of Concentration On Rate Of Reaction With... How does changing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid affect its rate of reaction with Sodium Thiosulphate? Introduction/aim the aim of this experiment is to see how changing the concentration of hydrochloric acid would change its rate of reaction with Sodium Thiosulphate. This was done by changing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid to 4 different concentrations and adding them to the same amount of sodium thiosulphate. This is done in different beakers that will previously be placed over a piece of paper marked with an x. Once the reaction fully takes place, the x would no longer be visible therefore the time it takes for the x to no longer be visible is our dependent variable. Hypothesis the hypothesis is that as the concentration is increased, the rate of reaction will increase, but the time will decrease. This is because if the concentration is higher, there will be more of the sodium thiosulphate, therefore the reaction will take less time as the two mixtures will collide at a higher frequency. The trend in the graphs that will be later plotted will not be directly proportional. Graph 1 ( concentration vs time ) has a negative correlation and graph 2 ( concentration vs rate ) has a positive correlation. This is because as the concentration is increased the time will decrease, that s why graph 1 will have a negative correlation. Graph 2 will have a positive correlation as rate will be 1/time, therefore the graph flips. Neither of the graphs will be directly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stephen s mother contends that she is unnatural, (63; 182) and unbalanced (183), in a scene very similar to the trial in Fried Green Tomatoes. At times they may relate to her loneliness, but hopefully she mostly represents a positive model for them, showing them that even in the early twentieth century and before there were people like them, living their lives and trying to understand themselves. In her essay, Making her (In)Visible: Cultural Representations of Lesbianism and the Lesbian Body in the 1990s, Ann Ciasullo opens with an anecdote about the Jerry Springer show and its dramatic and damaging representation of lesbianism. Ciasullo elaborates that 1990s television and media was saturated with images of lesbian women, but they were not always good representations. Lesbianism was a trendy topic and lesbian characters were used as novelties. She states, but of course, the novelty status accorded to lesbians belies their long and difficult struggle for positive representation (577 578). The essay goes on to explore many facets of lesbian identities, including butch and femme gender performance and ways in which lesbian women s images are sanitized to be more acceptable in mainstream media. Because there are no vivid sex scenes for Ruth and Idgie or Stephen and Mary in Fried Green Tomatoes and The Well of Loneliness, respectively, some readers do find those texts to be sanitized, but for others, these texts show these women as normal people whose entire identity isn t defined by this one part of themselves. The speech described that the waters are constantly rising and waxing more and more mighty; and there is nothing but mere pleasure of God that holds the waters back (2). INVESTIGATION ON TURNING PARAMETERS ON MACHINING TIME AND VIBRATION OF CARBON FIBER REINFORCED LAMINATES ABSTRACT: This work proposes the investigation of machining time and vibration characteristics of machining differently oriented unidirectional Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP). The carbon fibers are oriented at 0, 45, 90 degrees during stacking process of laminate. The turning experiments are carried out in Siemens CNC Lathe to investigate best operating conditions. There are 9 experiments based on Taguchi s L9 orthogonal array are performed. The machining parameters are Spindle Speed, Feed and Depth of cut and the output responses are machining time and amplitude of vibration. The predication models are developed using ANOVA. To find the best value of the regression model, a real time coded Genetic Algorithm (GA) using Turbo C++ and MATLAB tool box GA are used. The result indicated that predicted models are significant and the real time coded GA produced best value. KEYWORDS: Turning, Genetic Algorithm, CFRP, Orientation, Hand lay up Process. 1.0 INTRODUCTION : Composites are able to meet up diverse design requirements with considerable weight savings as well as elevated strength to weight ratio as compared to conventional materials. • 19. Spoon River Anthology Analysis Margaret, Fully a Slacker Everyone has a novel within them or at least thinks they do. Unfortunately, few manage to get that novel out of their heads and into print. In Edgar Lee Masters Spoon River Anthology, Margaret Fuller Slack is certain that she would have been a famous novelist, except obligations to her family got in the way of actually writing a book. She is unendingly bitter about how her life turned out. Margaret urges readers to ignore the pull of outside forces and to specifically ignore the pull of sex, which she claims ruined her life. However, between the lines Masters cleverly shows that the blame for dreams unrealized lie with Margaret herself. Through Margaret s story, Masters studies how a person can cause their own unsuccess and still genuinely blame everyone but herself. From the very beginning, Margaret establishes herself as a very talented writer, full of potential. Masters introduces Margaret in three names: first, maiden, and last. Most women in the Spoon River Anthology are introduced in two, sometimes even taking their husband s full name instead of their own. Here, he has Margaret grouping herself in with other famous women writers, such as Harriet Beecher Stowe, as then modern women authors who had individuality but who still respected the tradition of taking on their husband s last name. Moreover, in the first line Margaret declares that she would have been as great as George Eliot, who one of the leading writers of Victorian England, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell Many phenomena exist within the world; whether it be the butterfly effect, the small world theory, or even the laws of gravity, these entities shape reality. In the book The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell analyzes an effect he coins the tipping point . The tipping point essentially is the point at which small, seemingly insignificant changes become significant enough to cause a large and often times important change . Throughout the text of this novel, Gladwell explores this notion more in depth; he utilizes real world examples such as the re emergence of Hush Puppies, a popular footwear item, and dissects the epidemic of the syphilis outbreak in Baltimore, Maryland in order to achieve this purpose. Weak ties allow for information to be relayed across clusters of a network. Without the appearance of weak ties, diffusion would be rather difficult to accomplish. The prime example of an individual who possessed many weak ties goes by the name Roger Horchow. In The Tipping Point, Horchow is a master at creating relationships and bonds in areas of life in which he had no real expertise. Horchow had social connections in the arts, technology, agriculture, architecture, business, law, health care, and any other occupational field . He began to dive more and more into the world of Transcendentalism. He was a husband a father and a teacher who created a wave through America that still has rippling effects today. Much more came out of this movement including his effect that he had on his daughter who herself spread transcendental ideas through her writings. This man was Amos Bronson Alcott, and he was a reformer of society looking to abide by Transcendental beliefs. Alcott played one of the biggest roles in causing Transcendentalism to be still present today as he embodies the ideals behind Transcendentalism. Alcott took the philosophies of Thoreau and Emerson and instilled them into the world of the educational system by adding many different activities to the curriculum, stressing self reliance and self sacrifice to his students and his daughter. Alcott did his best to support his family, but his lecturing and writing were limited in their effectiveness. He understood that what he was doing was an attempt to better society, and he followed the Transcendental ideal of non conformity. Reflection On A Separate Peace To Be Human: A Separate Peace Reflection Compassion plays a significant role in everyone s lives: it is what parents teach their children from a young age, it is how human kindness is forwarded, it is how people make friends and fall in love. It is simultaneously what fuels the lives of individuals and what shapes the lives of those around them. In times of war or united struggle, though, compassion becomes harder to come by. John Knowles, author of the historical fiction novel A Separate Peace, demonstrates the toll war takes on one s soul through it s main character, Gene Forrester. As World War II continues amidst the events Gene encounters at Devon School, the reader observes Gene s transformation into an apathetic human being through his distrusting of others, actions towards his peer, Leper, and his response to his best friend s death. Gene s descent of character makes Knowles personal perspective on war clear as well: it either kills you or kills your mind. Though A Separate Peace follows Gene s life as a junior at Devon School and not as a soldier on the front line, much of Gene and his peers average school day revolves around the war. Considering such a state of mind, of course Gene s life parallels the life of a soldier. For the rest of his life, he was to be a classic case history of... borderline form of A bomb sickness... many of which turned up in hibakusha... (Hersey, 110). A few years after the atom bomb was dropped many survivors, commonly called hibakusha, meaning explosion affected persons, had to make many trips to the hospital because the United States dropped the atom bomb. Financial risks include risks associated with foreign exchange rates, liquidity, credit decisions and the operating risks include risks associated with supply chain, information technology. Financial risks are generally easier to quantify and control as compared to operating risks, many of which are due to being influenced by external factors out of a company s control. It is why risk management has assumed a higher significance as well as greater importance than it had some years ago. (Butcher, 2011) This change is mainly driven by the instability and convolution of the marketplace. Moreover, the risks to which companies are exposed and their severity also keeps growing. Companies are now also moving towards appointing a Chief Risk Officer. In many companies, this responsibility is assigned to the CEO. In recent changes a few things have become important for companies. The first is connecting risk to business performance. Companies need to establish processes and mechanisms which link risk to business performance. Risk management under the present scenario also includes measures like sophisticated measurement, modeling and analytics for anticipating risks as well as integrating risk management capabilities with the organizational structure and across business units. Similarly, developing relationships with regulatory agencies as well as supervising regulation and compliance has also become important. (Butcher, 2011) Apart from all, detailed training on risk management and infusing risk awareness across the organization is also important. • 39. Welfare Recipients Abusing the System The welfare faults America spends an annual amount of 131.9 billion dollars on welfare alone (Department of Commerce). So many facts about welfare are overwhelming, such that over 12,800,000 Americans are on the welfare system. The entire social welfare system is in desperate need of a complete reform. In order for a proper reform to ensue, the people of America must combine efforts with the U.S. government to revitalize the current welfare system. This reform would involve answering two important questions. First, how has today s welfare system strayed from its original state and secondly, how is the system abused by welfare holders in today s economy? As of January 1, 2014, roughly 4.1% of Americans are welfare, which is not what the system was designed to do (Department of Commerce). Welfare was originally created in the 1930 s during the Great Depression in order to aid to citizens with little to no income (welfareinfo.org). It was a response to the great number of people without jobs and who desperately needed assistance with money and basic needs such as food and shelter (welfareinfo.org). For the next 61 years the United States government would hold control of the welfare system (welfareinfo.org). According to the Department of Commerce, 46,700,000 Americans are on food stamps (Department of Commerce). The Department of Commerce divided welfare recipients into categories of race finding that, 39.8% of welfare holders are African American (Department of Commerce). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Rhetorical Analysis Of George Thoreau s Letter From... Thoreau and King use many similar strategies in their writings. One uses these strategies to make their piece more effective. King s persuasive letter to the clergyman, Letter from Birmingham Jail was far more effective than Thoreau s Lecture On the Duty of Civil Disobedience directed towards americans ready to change things, and here is why. King s article was more effective because he strives towards tugging on the audience s heartstrings rather than the logical side, his repetition proved to be more effective, he has a unique organizational structure, King stays more on topic, and was more passionate about his disquisition. King uses pathos in his piece, for starters, while Thoreau uses more of a logical approach. Right off the bat, in Letter from Birmingham Jail, King writes a lengthy sentence describing the unfortunate events him and his colored peers go through on a daily basis. King uses pathos in this sentence gaining more emphasis as the sentence goes on making the audience (who, keep in mind, are clergyman) feel sympathy towards King and the black community. King uses examples of how the colored are treated stating, for example, But when you have seen vicious mobs lynch your mothers and fathers at will and drown your sisters and brothers at whim;[...] (264;Par.14) progressing slowly showing more and more emphasis on his emotional side of things until he finally says [W]hen you are forever fighting a degenerating sense of nobodiness then you will ... It also may have been the combo of tiredness and the chill (Tugwell 56). Doctors were called for a diagnosis and each time they gave a wrong diagnosis. It wasn t until two weeks after contracting the disease that a specialist gave a correct diagnosis and it was two weeks after the specialist came that Franklin was transported to New York for therapy (57). • 43. The Coach Research Paper Sports are a form of entertainment, whether it is playing them or watching them. Yet part of the entertainment is also the audience. The fans can have a large impact on the game itself as well as your experience. We all have that one friend who is way too competitive, whether it involves sports or just who finishes eating first. They cannot choose what things to be competitive at, for that nature is in their blood. The Coach is the most competitive player out of the fans. In a game, you will scarcely, see them sit down, and they are so competitive that they act as if they are actually playing the game. They could be sitting as high as the nosebleed seats and shouting at the players, telling them what to do, as if the players could somehow hear them. Yet they are being obnoxious to the people around them, for, unfortunately, they can hear them quite clearly. Coaches are essentially the backseat drivers of sports. The next fan we have is the complete opposite of a Coach, hence the quotation marks. Phonies come for the experience, not for the game. Phonies often come wearing all of the team s gear, yet it is all for the aesthetics and for the sports façade. You may think that the game is on their phone because that is what they ll spend most of their time watching. Unlike the Coach, others will not notice or pay much attention to Phonies, yet you will know they were there because it will be posted on social media or other public accounts. Coaches tend to be stubborn and close minded, so not much bothers them. Except for the Rookie. Rookies are the bane of Coaches. Unlike Phonies, they are genuinely interested in the game. Unfortunately, they know little to nothing about the sport, and the people to suffer are the ones like Coaches. They are constantly asking questions about how it works and what s going on in the game, preventing others from fully enjoying and experiencing the game. Unlike Coaches, Rookies do not bother the rest of the fans, but only the ones they are close with. One good thing about Rookies is that they are honest. Followers also are not completely familiar with the game, yet they try to be discreet about it. They go with the flow of the crowd, yet you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Constructivism And The Theory Of Constructivism We have all been guilty of doing it, making assumptions about someone based on what we have seen or been through. We see a person or an object and classify it as tall, wealthy, ugly, pretty, etc. Categorizing what we see can be helpful but sometimes it can lead to stereotyping. But why do we make assumptions? The theory of Constructivism can help us understand why we categorize things we see into constructs and how these constructs can be harmful and how they can benefit or hurt us when we communicate with others. The theory of constructivism helps explain how meaning can be developed through interactions we have. The basis of the theory was started by George Kelly who was a main author in the Personal Construct Theory. This theory discussed insight and how it can be gained by people s interactions and perceptions and how they use their observations to make attributions. It claimed that individuals understand the world around them by organizing and recognizing people and events by their personal constructs they create. Personal constructs can be explained as sets of opposites into which objects are classified (Lee 2016) such as rich poor, cheap expensive, etc. This helped pave the way for constructivism, which reasons that people classify their experiences into groups so they can help give meaning to it and can make sense of the situation. According to Jessie Delia (1982), one of the main leaders in the theory, action is guided by context relevant interactions and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These defaults lead, in late 2006, to a decline in US housing prices after nearly a decade of exceptionally high growth. Many Americans watched as their primary source of wealth become increasingly devalued. By late 2007, the prime mortgage markets were showing higher than normal default rates as well. The real economy began to exhibit problems related to the financial crisis as early as March 2006, when investment expenditure on residential structures began to decline. In early 2008, this decline spread to investment in business equipment and consumer spending on durable goods. It wasn t until the summer of 2008 that consumer spending broadly and GDP began falling, signs of a recession. (In December 2008, the National Bureau of Economic Research, official arbiter of business cycles dated the formal beginning of the recession as December 2007.) While the public had been concerned about recession for much of the year, it wasn t until the fall that the economy began to decline at more than a 6% annual rate.
