Emperor Qin Dbq Analysis
Emperor Qin was a harsh, brutal, and cruel. He made rash decisions making citizens put forth loyalty
because of fear. The acts leading up to his reputation include ordering the deaths of over 460 great
scholars, burning many historical texts, and using violence to bring peace. Well over 700,000 laborers
from several specialized jobs were drafted to create a tomb for him and to build the Great Wall, taking
away so many resources needed for survival. Emperor Qin was an ineffective and destructive ruler.
Emperor Qin was not an unproductive. According to Document 4, it states, t Your servant suggests
that all books in the imperial archives, save the (except for) the memoirs of Qin, be burned. All

Eddie Mabo Essay
Introduction Throughout Australian history, there have been men and women who fought for the
entitlements of the indigenous people. The most respected and recognised of these is Eddie Mabo, a
Torres Strait Islander. Mabo stood up for the rights of his people from a very young age all the way to
his death, in order to generate changes in the policies and laws of the government. Mabo battled for
his right to own the land which he had inherited from his adoptive father, a fight which was resolved
only after his demise. Despite this, Eddie Mabo became one of the key influential figures in the
Aboriginal rights movement, as his strong will, determination, and intelligence allowed him to bring
about change. Early Life Mabo was born on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He lived a simple existence with his family, caring for the land and learning the traditions of his
people, until his exile from the island. However, meeting his soul mate Bonita in 1958 and marrying
her in 1959 was one of the most significant events to affect him. Bonita quickly became the most
significant person in his life and the driving inspirational force behind his political agendas. She stood
by her husband no matter what, supporting him even when the pressures and struggles of life almost
became too much to bear. Due to the nature of his political agenda, Eddie needed to move around a
lot, and so Bonita helped to raise money in order to pay for these ventures. Towards his later life,
Mabo began to drink heavily to escape from the pressures of daily life, and took out his frustration on
his wife, both verbally and physically. Despite this, even when Bonita took the children and left, she
always returned to support him, because she understood what he was going through. Eventually, Eddie
learned to focus his frustrations onto other things, politics in particular. Political Struggles At the age
of 16, Eddie began to question the system, and the government. He began to ask why it is that his race
is treated differently, and subjected to cruel and unjust laws. This was the beginning of his career in
politics. Later in his years, he learned that the land on Murray Island, which he

To Further Understand The Text One Must Know The Literary
To further understand the text one must know the literary devices present in The Lottery. In the short
story The Lottery there is a theme of tradition. The citizens all blindly followed the tradition of the
lottery while barely remembering its origin or reasoning. Each year the town came together to have its
lottery. It was said that the lottery was done each year so that they would have good crops but many of
the citizens had forgotten its purpose.
While waiting for the ceremony to begin the children picked stones and the adults chatted nervously.
Mrs. Tessie Hutchinson, the protagonist, arrived late which foreshadowed her bad luck to come. Mr.
Summers was the man in charge of the lottery. He brought the same black wooden box each year ...

A Case Study In Polypharmacy
A Case Study in Polypharmacy
The case study of Mrs. A has numerous factors that constituted in her health problems and

Congestive cardiac failure (CCF) is a clinical syndrome where the heart is no longer able to maintain

Longboarding Vs Longboard Research Paper
The feeling riders get as they are skating around town on a nice sunny day, with all of their buddies, is
one of the best feelings in the world. Many people do not know this, but there is actually more than
one type of skating. The two biggest types are skateboarding and longboarding. There are many
similarities and differences between the two. The first being the length and style of the deck.
Longboards are generally longer and shaped differently than a regular skateboard. Second, would be
how the board is ridden and the different tricks riders can do on each type of board. Regardless, people
can ride and cruise on either type. The last comparison is the price difference between the two boards.
Most of the time a longboard is more expensive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the time, longboards are more expensive than skateboards because they have bigger trucks,
wheels, and the deck is longer. This is not always the case though. If a skateboard is more expensive
than a longboard, the longboard is more than likely a cheaper made board with lower quality trucks
and wheels. This does not mean the board is terrible, it just means it was made cheaper so that more
people can afford to buy it. Skateboards are the same way. The good brands of skateboard decks like
Baker, Anti Hero, Plan B, Deathwish, etc... are normally $40 $60. Longboards decks, especially
brands like Sector 9, Globe, Landyachtz, etc... can start at around $75 and can get up to over $200 for
just the deck. Even though every board is different in price, they are all equally as enjoyable to

Dysfunctional Family
Dysfunctional Family
A dysfunctional family is a family, in which conflict, misbehavior and even abuse on the part of
individual members of the family occur continually, leading other members to accommodate such
actions. Dysfunctional families are most often a result of the alcoholism, substance abuse, or other
addictions of parents, parents untreated mental illnesses/defects or personality disorders, or the parents
emulating their own dysfunctional parents and dysfunctional family experiences.
Types of Dysfunctional Families

Criticism can be aimed at the child s looks, intelligence, capabilities, or basic value. Some verbal
abusers are very direct, while others use subtle put downs disguised as humor. Both types are just as
damaging.
Definitions of physical abuse vary widely. Many parents, at one time or another, have felt the urge to
strike their child. With physically abusive parents, however, the urge is frequent and little effort is
made to control this impulse. The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act defines physical
abuse as the infliction of physical injuries such as bruises, burns, welts, cuts, bone or skull fractures;
these are caused by kicking, punching, biting, beating, knifing, strapping, paddling, etc.
Striking a child has much to do with meeting the parent s emotional needs and nothing to do with
concern for the child; parents often erroneously justify the abuse as discipline intended to help the
child. Physically abusive parents can create an environment of terror for the child, particularly since
violence is often random and unpredictable. Abused children often feel anger. Children of abusive
parents have tremendous difficulties developing feelings of trust and safety even in their adult lives.
While parents may justify or rationalize verbal or physical abuse as discipline aimed at somehow
helping the child, there is no rationalization for sexual abuse. Sexual abuse is the most blatant example
of an adult abusing a child purely for that

Bootlegging and Al Capone Essay
BOOTLEGGING In 1919, the Eighteenth Amendment was passed, this amendment made the
consumption and sell of alcohol illegal. A group of people referred to as moral reformers felt that
banning the sell and consumption of alcohol would better protect the lives of people as well as make
them better (Rose). Businesses, such as industrial businesses, believed that it would better productivity
if the workers could remain sober. The Volsted Act was passed shortly after the Eighteenth
Amendment to make sure it was enforced since local authorities did not do such; there were only
fifteen hundred agents to enforce the law and the act was also underfunded. Therefore, the Prohibition

NCAA Football Playoff System
Thesis: The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) formula has been used to determine the top twenty five
teams in NCAA Division I college since 1998. Many think this system is inadequate and should be

Bill Vilona, of the Pensacola News Journal wrote, All of us in the equity conferences believe the BCS
has worked; it has done what it s supposed to do. It s not perfect, but I don t think anything is perfect.
The Bowl Championship Series should be changed to a playoff system. The BCS does a great job of
utilizing all the statistics and polls to establish the top twenty five teams in the nation. On the other
hand the top two teams are the ones who attend the national championship and that is where the BCS
system is unfair. For Example, Alex Giles wrote in his Article The Proposed Marriage of the BCS and
a Playoff Format , In 2000, the BCS ranked Oklahoma Jerzy 6
#1 and Florida State #2 at seasons end, despite the fact that Miami was ranked #2 in the both the AP
and the coaches poll and had beaten the Seminoles (Florida State) during the regular season. Ranking
problems like that one that happened in 2000 are why the BCS system should modify to a playoff
system. The BCS is a somewhat confusing and often controversial system (Vilona). The top twenty
five teams in Division I football battle each and every week for a better spot in the rankings. Most of
the time it comes down to the last week of season play to determine which two teams will progress
into the national championship game. The top teams should be given an opportunity to earn their way
into the championship

L. Frank Baum s The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz
Lyman Frank Baum, better known as L. Frank Baum, was an incredible American author. Many
people are quite familiar with the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and it is a favorite to many.
However, the last few generations are not familiar with its author, Baum. What most people fail to see
is that his life was full of many twists and turns, ups and downs, and more failures than successes.
Unlike most writers, Baum did not go into great detail with setting or character. His unique style used
simple vocabulary, made up words, and fantasy. Shockingly, he did not intend for there to be morals in
his stories. Baum created his stories simply to entertain children in a way that did not frighten them,
unlike fairytales of the past had been. L. Frank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During those years the Great Dakota Boom occurred. There were several factors for that event. One
reason being the changes to the government s land laws. The Pre emption Act allowed a person of 21
years and who was a citizen, to purchase 160 acres of land for $1.25 per acre. However, many farmers
did not have enough cash all at once to buy 160 acres. So, in 1862 Congress passed the Homestead
Act, which provided a free 160 acres to anyone of at least 21 years and who was a citizen. The settler
had to move onto the land, build some kind of residence (usually small clapboard or sod structures),
break at least ten acres of sod, and plant a crop. After five, but no more than seven years, the
homesteader received title to the land with the payment of small fees (Tweton, D. Jerome, Dr.). The
Timber Culture Act of 1873 was passed by Congress to provide an additional free 160 acres if the
farmer planted ten acres of trees. If the trees continued to live for eight years, they would be granted a
title. Free land was a powerful incentive to come to North Dakota (Tweton, D. Jerome, Dr.). There
were many other factors including new transportation systems and the search for more prosperous
land. In 1888, L. Frank Baum and his family moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota believing they would
prosper from the Great Dakota Boom. He then founded Baum s Bazaar, not knowing that it was the
end of the boom.

Hum By Naomi Shihab Nye Summary
On September 11, 2001 America was attacked by terrorists at the World Trade Center in New York
City and The Pentagon in Washington D.C. Planes crashed into these buildings and killed thousands of
people, and injured even more. This tore families apart. Also, many people believed that Muslim and
Islamic people were responsible for the terrorist attacks. This was a very sad time for the nation
because it was very rough for citizens with different races and religions. In the story Hum by Naomi
Shihab Nye, the cartoon Ahmed Mohamed by Adam Zyglis and the article How 9/11 Changed These
Muslims Americans Lives Forever by Lydia O Connor, it is clear that the aftermath of 9/11 resulted in
horrible discrimination around the USA. In the story, Hum, by Naomi Shihab Nye, a young
Palestinian boy named Sami faces discrimination first hand from his classmates after the terrorist
attacks of 9/11. Sami Salsa just moved to America from Israel with his mom and dad. When Sami

arrested because people around him thought he was building a bomb since he is Muslim. This is one
of many acts of discrimination because people assumed that he was building an explosive. In the

discrimination was so strong. This shows that even years after this terrible occurrence people in
America still discriminate against Muslims because of an event that happened so long

During my research on alopecia I examined journals, articles and web sources in order to receive a
better understanding of the disease, and the problems afflicted people have. To foster a greater
understanding of the illness I researched general information on the disease. Most importantly, the
problems people with alopecia face. After analysing these sources I came to the conclusion that the
most impactful effect of the disease on affected people is the psychological toll it causes. As a result, I
decided that a solution to this problem is to change society s views on hair loss.

The Half Way House
The Boca House in South Florida portrayed as the recovery resort but was nothing more than an
overpriced, rundown apartment complex with absolutely no support. My expectations were set very
high after doing my research on line and viewing their web page. It displayed this establishment in the
heart of the resort and celebrity filled town of Boca Raton on the sunny gold coast of South Florida. It
showed palm trees blowing in the wind and water fountains in their well manicured court yards of the
living accommodations. After extensive review of their brochure and web page I believed I was in for
a treat in my early recovery. I expected there to be nice landscaping, tropical plants, and palm trees
surrounding the luxurious complex. I pictured water fountains and the sound of water splashing while
sitting on my balcony. There was to be a nice well maintained custom tile pool with a hot tub
connected to it. My apartment was to be filled with modern and contemporary furnishing though out.
The pictures I viewed showed nicely painted walls decorated with contemporary art and pearly white
ceramic tiles throughout the entire apartment. The kitchen had nothing high end stainless steel
appliances and beautiful granite counter tops. The impression I had was as if I was going to be renting
an apartment in a sober living environment in a well to do establishment that I would be proud to call
home.

Fordham University Observation
Going to Fordham University, I ve always heard about the student friendly bars located nearby
campus. I figured the colorful social dynamic at these bars would make for important observations
that I couldn t pass up. The Friday night ritual of going to the bars sounded as if it had its own mythos,
with police raids replacing great floods and bouncers replacing riddle making sphinxes. As such, I
decided to leave campus on a Friday at around 11 pm to go to an area with multiple bars that were
known to admit Fordham students under the age of 21. Essentially, I observed the act of going out .
On the way to the bars I noticed a large, but hard to spot, exchange of people, ideas and even items.
Most people moved in large flocks that tended to fuse and split spontaneously. There were parallel
floods of students going out and returning home. From what I heard while eavesdropping, some
students told others about what lay ahead for instance, cover charges at bars, or people they weren t

What appeared to be the main bar was situated on a corner, while two other ones were to adjacent to

long line of students, starting at the open door of the bar, snaked along the front of the building and
around the sidewalk on its left side. I got in line and waited about five minutes to get up to the door.
This was perhaps the most critical part of going out . Once it was my turn to enter the bar, I was
approached by the bouncer. He was a tall, barrel chested man with a wisp of hair on his head and a
crooked nose. I showed this man my license. He nodded upon seeing the year 1996 , accepting my age

economy is by higher education. Even though the funding is large, the first two years of community
college should be free to all. The Washington Promise, a scholarship program in place to provide
scholarships to high school seniors who graduate from a Washington high school, is a way to help

Although I believe the first two years of community college should be free to all; many people would

British Pound of Sterlings
The birth of the currency
The pound is 1200 years old, born about 775AD, when sterlings or silver coins were the main
currency in Anglo Saxon kingdoms.
If you had 240 of them, you had one pound in weight a vast fortune in the 8th century.
A century and a half later Athelstan, the first King of England, founded a series of mints and made
sterling a national currency in 928.
In 1124, a disgusted Henry I had 94 mint workers castrated for producing bad coins.
Sterling retained importance through the middle ages. Before the foundation of the Bank of England,
the Tower of London was the store for spare money. Silver penny were the only coins right through
until the 13th century and silver was the currency standard till the 18th ... Show more content on

After the war, rumours swirled that sterling was to devalue, and so many countries converted their
pounds to dollars.
The pound was devalued by 30 per cent in 1949. The enormous postwar balance of payments deficit
was just too much for the UK. Sterling s weakness and decline became too obvious. National banks
wanted dollars not pounds.
Not a penny less: the 1967 Devaluation
In 1967 the currency wasdevalued again, this time by 14 per cent.
Overseas, the sterling currency was of lesser importance. Dollars were more alluring and as many
thought stable. But in 1971 President Nixon devalued the dollar a response to damage done by the
Vietnam War and opened the gates to a new era of floating exchange. The stability of the postwar
settlement was over.
The currency snake
Meanwhile 1972 saw the first efforts to fix the pound to other European currencies.
At the start of the year the four major European Economic Community currencies sterling, the
deutschemark, the French franc and the Italian lira formed the so called snake . The economic bloc
then floated their currencies together on the markets, each country having responsibility for the
stability of its currency within parameters.
The experiment failed, though, not long off the ground. Sterling dropped out after only six weeks,
weaker than ever, bowing to the dictates of the markets.

Sertraline Essay
Sertraline (brand name: Zoloft) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Sertraline affects
chemicals in the brain that may be unbalanced in people with depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive

The history of this drug starts with tametraline. Tametraline is the parent of a series of chemical

Persuasive Strategies For Selling Your House
If you are reading this, probably you are one of the homeowners who is having a hard time in selling a
property in Brooklyn.
Everybody knows that there are a lot of inventories on the market right now. And you will have to
compete against foreclosures out there, which are heavily discounted.
If your property is located in Brooklyn NY, especially in Bed Stuy (Bedford Stuyvesant) or Bushwick
areas, whose Zip Codes are 11212, 11213,11216,11233, 11238, 11206, 11221 and 11237, you must
have been definitely having a tough time, since foreclosure rates are much higher than that of the rest
of Brooklyn.
But still, even in this downturn market, you can sell your house fairly quickly.

Real estate agents are familiar with all the above and they can handle them for you. Their experience
can impact the sale.
In order to save $30,000 in commission, would you hire an attorney, a title company, and an insurance
company by yourself to make a deal happen? Are you really a good negotiator to ask for an offer? If
you are NOT that kind of person, things would be very tough for you.
2) Hiring a real estate agent (Realtor)
Pros for hiring a Realtor are already covered the above. Cons are that in this competitive market for
the sellers, agents may not able to help you sell fast. Most agents are taught only very conventional
ways of marketing homes. Putting your property on MLS (Multiple Listing Service) and put up a For
Sale sign in the yard, and maybe do some advertisement in newspapers. But that s about it. And the
next step is just wait and wait and wait... Because of the terrible economy, where the demand for
homes has subsided, you shouldn t be surprised if it takes 6 8 months to have your home sold through
an agent.
Therefore, you really have to hire an experienced real estate agent who has closed on at least 20 30
properties a year. You can get a real estate agent s license in 4 days. Having the license doesn t mean
he or she is an expert in selling a house. The truth is only 5 10 percent of the agents know what they

Students of the Millennial Generation expect technology in their future. Their upbringing, which

Children Should Not Receive Scheduled Vaccinations
Children are a vulnerable group within a population with respect to diseases, which then increases
their susceptibility to various illnesses, as adults generally have a stronger immune system as
compared to children. Steens, Beasley, Tsui, and Lee (1975) argued that children are more prone to be
a carrier of diseases than adults (as cited in Anderson and May, 1985). With that being said, the focus
remains on vaccinating children as the majority are in school for a great amount of time where they
are in proximity of one another, the continuous sharing of items, and are usually inconsistent with
hand hygiene. Under those circumstances, Anderson and May (1985) found that in children aged 5 15
infection rates would increase as a result of close contact within schools. Children who do not receive
scheduled vaccinations put themselves, as well as others at risk for vaccine preventable diseases, as
infants who are too young of age to receive vaccines, children, elderly, and community members who
have compromised immune systems most vulnerable to acquiring vaccine preventable diseases. Omer,
Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey (2009) argued that outbreaks of diseases regularly begins with
individuals who refuse vaccinations, as it spreads within communities and other populations.
Combining these factors, there is a high possibility of outbreaks in schools of life threatening illnesses
such as measles, mumps, and polio that unfortunately has taken many lives retrospectively. For

decay, outsiders, Civil War, and even slavery and race. Throughout Modern Southern Fiction, these
factors which create the Southern Gothic can be found in almost every literary work. In the novel by

None of them are quite the same, in actuality, they are all quite different from one another, but the one
thing that makes them not outsiders to one another is the idea that all Boatwrights look the same, that

Boatwrights are looked down upon and it stems from the fact that nobody in the town likes them.
There is a grandmother who curses and chews snuff, there are two crazy aunts who dive into the

argue that Bone s mother, Anney, while unlike the other Boatwrights, meaning that she is not wild and
not running off to beat up whoever gets in her way, is the biggest outsider in the town and causes the
most abject social issues. Due to falling pregnant at the age of fourteen, Anney was instantly looked

was the start of her feminist conscious. Elizabeth s parents did not attend her wedding and during her
ceremony she requested to have the phrase about obeying her husband omitted, and kept her own

After Elizabeth and Henry were married they left to go to London to go to an international antislavery

Analysis Of Tobias Wolff s The Bullet Of The Brain
Tobias Wolff uses imagery in his short story Bullet in the Brain provides a visual portrait that captures
attention. He clarifies in an interview with Sanford University what short stories require, You want
large results from it, and you re compelled by its very shortness to using all your resources of
language, form and understanding (Schrieberg 1998). He uses language in the story offering instances
of imagery to describe the media critic. Anders is portrayed as weary, and elegantly savage in his
reviews. In each scene of the story Anders observes and uses biting words to offer his approval or
distaste. He uses words to critique events while waiting with the customers at the bank, with the
thieves and with the shot starting his recollections. There is a deeper vision into his brain not only with
the speeding bullet but incite to words. The use of imagery in the short story provides a distorted
image of the character Anders, not the real image of a man with the passion for words and the
happiness they create.
The bank blooms the imagery of Anders. Standing in a long line behind annoying people creates a
murderous temper within his brain. His anger builds with the closing of the teller s line, yet does not

Dissociative Identity Disorder Analysis
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is the severe condition in which two or more distinct identities,

Doctor Jean Martin Charcot. This disorder affects about 1 percent of the United States population.
This disorder is more common in females than it is in males. For example, Britney Spears has suffered
from Dissociative Identity Disorder since 2008. Some of her alter egos include, The British girl, other

The first myth is that Dissociative Identity Disorder isn t real. This is false because in 1980 it was

illness which does not involve alternate personalities or dissociation. The third myth is that people
with Dissociative Identity Disorder are violent, but they are no more violent than normal people. The
last myth says that Dissociative Identity Disorder is a personality disorder. Dissociative Identity
Disorder is a dissociative disorder because instead of extreme emotional reactions with the world,
Dissociative Identity Disorder people lose contact with themselves (Peisley, 2017, 1). Dissociative

The Intervention Offers A Range Of Enjoyable Activities At...
CS intervention offers a range of enjoyable activities to people with dementia which focus on general
stimulation, concentration and memory usually runs in a social setting (Woods, Aguirre, Spector,
Orrell, 2012). CS was developed based on Reality Orientation (RO). RO was developed in the late
1950s to help inpatient older people with confusion in improving their mental stimulation and QoL
(Taulbee Folsom, 1966). RO adopts the techniques of presentation and repetition of orientation
information, in order to provide the person with greater understanding of their surroundings. For
example using various visual aids, a facilitator repeatedly presents basic orientation and environmental
information include the person name, where they are, the times of the day and year or the weather. RO
can operate as a continuous 24 hour classroom or in groups on a regular basis to provide orientation
related activities to participants (Brook, Degun, Mather, 1975). The purpose of these orientation
related activities is to establish a group environment (Citrin Dixon, 1977) and improve patient sense of
control and self esteem (Spector, Orrell, Davies, Woods, 2001). In one of the earliest studies (Woods,
1979) found that classroom RO led to improvement in cognitive function. Later (Spector et al., 2001)
conducted a pilot study to test the feasibility of RO and developed a program of CS therapy based on a
systematic evaluation of the literature of RO which identified its key components

Plagiarism Essay Examples
Taking someone s words and using them without a proper citation is a problem. Without being taught
the correct way, this problem is not going to correct itself and will continue to become a bigger
problem. There are major consequences for plagiarising, but these can be avoided with a simple
citation. Tying together the definition of plagiarism, reasons for using documentation, and an
explanation of MLA 8 and APA citations will all be brought together. Learning what kind of citation,
and what needs a citation is a very important concept in becoming a successful writer. Citing a source
correctly will save you time and problems.

These students were taught a life lesson, something that they will never do again. Being taught, the
correct way, at a young age will solve many of the problems that we have today. Becoming aware of
the consequences that this could lead to would be worth the extra time citing a document, or writing
your own paper. Taking someone s words or writing could lead to loss of job/school, fines, and so
much more. To avoid these problems, a simple citation will help anyone become aware that you did
give credit to the author. Jim Carnett published an article in the Los Angeles Times stating that he had
tried to submit a column to an editor but they sent it back because it contained plagiarised material.
Carnett said, I lifted a portion of one of my columns and inserted it in the Daily Pilot piece without
attribution. He hadn t cited his own work and now what he did was plagiarism. To Carnett, this was a
total accident, but this shows that you should cite any information that you use. Although there are
arguments that there is no such thing as plagiarism, If a novelist uses a non fiction book for research,
how is that stealing? Non fiction promises facts, there is no copyright in facts, ergo no stealing...
(Independent.co.uk) it is always best to give credit to the source that you received the information
from; thus not having a chance of plagiarism.

American Industrial Revolution
Spinning Machines have helped the American Industry for as long as they have been around. The idea
of having a spinning machine was to make wool into yarn; this made it easier for people in the
clothing industry more productive with the making of their products. Compared to today s spinning
machines for wool and clothing making, spinning machines then were just the building blocks for the
clothing industry. The idea of Spinning Machines was introduced by James Hargreaves in 1764.
Hargreaves before his invention was working as a weaver and carpenter in his home country of land
Sandhill, Lancashire. He himself was illiterate, but he understood weavers problem with trying to
produce thread. He presented his Spinning Jenny, named after his wife ... Show more content on

Though men were the primary breadwinners based on income, families especially woman s income
increased. Also, the amount of woman that worked in textiles factories increased, to the amount that
was higher than men ( Textile Workers ). Though woman still earned less than men during that period.
The people that help to build and manage Spinning Machines did make some money of off them at
first but, many of the inventors of Spinning Machines such as John Kay and Samuel Crompton died in
poverty, mainly due to large debt and business failure. Slater and Arkwright as the Father s to their
own industry build up, both had some money towards the end of their life. Since the spinning and
yarning process was made easier the cost of labor was diminished. Before the invention of Arkwright s
Spinning Jenny, workers in the factories had to weave wool into yarn by hand with their ordinary
Spinning Wheel. To the benefit of factories owners Spinning Machines made the job of yarning easier
for workers, and therefore decreased labor cost owners would have to

A Interview On A Pathological Liar Essay
On November 16, 1967 Kristen Heather Strickland was born in Massachusetts. Her mother was a
substitute teacher and her father was an electronics engineer. Growing up in Fall River, where Lizzie
Borden who is believed to have killed her parents was born, Kristen would often tell people that she
and Lizzie were related. She seemed to find great excitement with the possibility (Phelps, 2014). She
grew into an attractive teenage girl who seemed to be sophisticated and the envy of others. The first
issue was noted when she was older by her schoolmates. Kristen was turning into a pathological liar.
One of her friends stated she showed up to school wearing a shirt that another friend had reported
missing. She adamantly denied that it was the same shirt (Montaldo, 2015). A pathological liar is
defined as someone who tells small lies without a reason on an ongoing basis that usually occurs for
years, and even a lifetime (Dike, 2008). We all have our own developmental pathway, starting early in
life, which is made up of risk factors and experiences that makes us who we are. Risk factors which
can lead to criminal behavior include alcohol or drug abuse, poverty, failing school, physical and
emotional abuse, parental styles, peer rejection, inadequate preschool experiences, siblings, parental
psychopathology, inadequate after school care, association with antisocial peers, minimal parental
monitoring, lack of attachment, and lack of empathy (Bartol Bartol, 2014).

Landmark Educational Court Cases Essay
Throughout history there have been various influential court cases involving Education. These
important cases and their outcomes act as milestones on the road to a successful education System in
the United States. Topics such as race, religion and gender equality within schools have all been
vigorously debated upon and have ultimately played major roles in shaping today s education system.
By examining civil rights and acting upon these rights many important educational court cases have
allowed many students a greater chance for efficient and equal learning opportunities in the classroom.
Brief History
One of the important landmark educational court cases, is the 1974 ruling of Lau v. Nichols. As more
immigrants establish homes in the United States, they face many difficulties adapting to everyday life
having English as their second language or having no knowledge of the English language at all.
During 1971, San Francisco schools were integrated and created more diverse and bilingual groups of
students which exemplified this issue within the school system (Developing ELL Programs). Though
previous actions had been made to accommodate students with lack of English proficiency, there were
still a large number of students that did not receive any help.
Lau, along with many other Chinese American students in San Francisco found their school district
did not do its job in providing equal opportunity to students in this circumstance. This resulted in a
landmark court case

Poverty In Loraine Hansberry s A Raisin In The Sun
Throughout American history, poverty has overwhelmed the inner cities, causing families to face
everyday issues such as finances with regards to food, schooling, and extra activities or utilities.
However, these circumstances can also test a family and push them to their breaking point. The topic
of poverty is evident in Loraine Hansberry s play that takes place in the late 1950s. As the play A
Raisin in the Sun progresses, the characters develop as a whole, enhancing symbolism specifically
Mama s plant that represent the family. To begin the play, a young man named Walter is presented as
an individual who is selfish and only wishes for his own personal gains. As his struggles are expressed
through his word choice, tone, and actions, it can be seen that Walter Younger is a man who only
thinks about what he wants, even if it will hurt his family. Soon after, the audience is introduced to
Mama s plant that is withering away in the family s minute apartment since there is not adequate
sunlight or space; she fears that if the old plant doesn t get more sun than it s been getting, it ain t ever
going to see spring again (Hansberry 508). As the plant is described, the audience cannot help but
relate Walter to the plant: they both lack space sufficient enough to live and grow as an individual.
Similar to the plant lacking necessities, Walter has a scarce amount of excess money that could help
him achieve his dreams. Overall, this plant is symbolic of Walter in the sense that

Many people do not know this, but there is actually more than one type of skating. The two biggest types are skateboarding and longboarding. There are many similarities and differences between the two. The first being the length and style of the deck. Longboards are generally longer and shaped differently than a regular skateboard. Most of the time, longboards are more expensive than skateboards because they have bigger trucks, wheels, and the deck is longer. This is not always the case though. If a skateboard is more expensive than a longboard, the longboard is more than likely a cheaper made board with lower quality trucks and wheels. This does not mean the board is terrible, it just means it was made cheaper so that more people can afford to buy it. Skateboards are the same way. The good brands of skateboard decks like Baker, Anti Hero, Plan B, Deathwish, etc... are normally $40 $60. Criticism can be aimed at the child s looks, intelligence, capabilities, or basic value. Some verbal abusers are very direct, while others use subtle put downs disguised as humor. Both types are just as damaging. Definitions of physical abuse vary widely. Many parents, at one time or another, have felt the urge to strike their child. With physically abusive parents, however, the urge is frequent and little effort is made to control this impulse. The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act defines physical abuse as the infliction of physical injuries such as bruises, burns, welts, cuts, bone or skull fractures; these are caused by kicking, punching, biting, beating, knifing, strapping, paddling, etc. Striking a child has much to do with meeting the parent s emotional needs and nothing to do with concern for the child; parents often erroneously justify the abuse as discipline intended to help the child. Physically abusive parents can create an environment of terror for the child, particularly since violence is often random and unpredictable. Abused children often feel anger. Children of abusive parents have tremendous difficulties developing feelings of trust and safety even in their adult lives. While parents may justify or rationalize verbal or physical abuse as discipline aimed at somehow helping the child, there is no rationalization for sexual abuse. What most people fail to see is that his life was full of many twists and turns, ups and downs, and more failures than successes. Unlike most writers, Baum did not go into great detail with setting or character. His unique style used simple vocabulary, made up words, and fantasy. One reason being the changes to the government s land laws. The Pre emption Act allowed a person of 21 years and who was a citizen, to purchase 160 acres of land for $1.25 per acre. However, many farmers did not have enough cash all at once to buy 160 acres. So, in 1862 Congress passed the Homestead Act, which provided a free 160 acres to anyone of at least 21 years and who was a citizen. The settler had to move onto the land, build some kind of residence (usually small clapboard or sod structures), break at least ten acres of sod, and plant a crop. After five, but no more than seven years, the homesteader received title to the land with the payment of small fees (Tweton, D. Jerome, Dr.). The Timber Culture Act of 1873 was passed by Congress to provide an additional free 160 acres if the farmer planted ten acres of trees. If the trees continued to live for eight years, they would be granted a title. Free land was a powerful incentive to come to North Dakota (Tweton, D. Jerome, Dr.). There were many other factors including new transportation systems and the search for more prosperous land. In 1888, L. • 27. Children Should Not Receive Scheduled Vaccinations Children are a vulnerable group within a population with respect to diseases, which then increases their susceptibility to various illnesses, as adults generally have a stronger immune system as compared to children. Steens, Beasley, Tsui, and Lee (1975) argued that children are more prone to be a carrier of diseases than adults (as cited in Anderson and May, 1985). With that being said, the focus remains on vaccinating children as the majority are in school for a great amount of time where they are in proximity of one another, the continuous sharing of items, and are usually inconsistent with hand hygiene. Under those circumstances, Anderson and May (1985) found that in children aged 5 15 infection rates would increase as a result of close contact within schools. Children who do not receive scheduled vaccinations put themselves, as well as others at risk for vaccine preventable diseases, as infants who are too young of age to receive vaccines, children, elderly, and community members who have compromised immune systems most vulnerable to acquiring vaccine preventable diseases. Omer, Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey (2009) argued that outbreaks of diseases regularly begins with individuals who refuse vaccinations, as it spreads within communities and other populations. Combining these factors, there is a high possibility of outbreaks in schools of life threatening illnesses such as measles, mumps, and polio that unfortunately has taken many lives retrospectively. The Boatwrights are looked down upon and it stems from the fact that nobody in the town likes them. There is a grandmother who curses and chews snuff, there are two crazy aunts who dive into the theory of witchcraft, there is an aunt who ran off with the carnival, there are uncles who are beating up men left and right, there is Bone s mother who becomes pregnant at fourteen, and there is even Bone and a cousin of hers who are quiet and that differentiates them from the rest of the family. One can argue that Bone s mother, Anney, while unlike the other Boatwrights, meaning that she is not wild and not running off to beat up whoever gets in her way, is the biggest outsider in the town and causes the most abject social issues. Due to falling pregnant at the age of fourteen, Anney was instantly looked down upon. The town saw those who gave birth to bastards as being the worst of anything, therefore when Anney had to go downtown every year to sign the paperwork for Bone, those who were in the courthouse looked down upon her, but she did not let that phase her. Due to their use of shame and scare tactics, teens are avoiding communication with sexual/romantic partners, not turning to adults in times of need, unknowingly contracting STIs and infecting others and feeling all around ashamed of the sexual desires. This is a system that turns an eye away from preventative measures like birth control and condoms, as well as demonizes people who become pregnant and vilifies those who have abortions.
