Essay about Leonard Peltier Should be Released from Prison
Leonard Peltier is currently serving time in the Leavenworth federal penitentiary for the shooting
deaths of two Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) agents. According to FBI documents, at around
11:50 A.M. on June 26th, 1975, agents Jack Color and Ron Williams were supposedly searching for
Jimmy Eagle, a thief wanted for stealing a pair of cowboy boots. The agents encroached on the
Jumping Bull Compound in Oglala, South Dakota of the Pine Ridge reservation, in two separate
vehicles that no one could recognize (Incident). In this area, there were several members of the
American Indian Movement (AIM). After the intrusion of the agents, someone and it is unsure who
fired a shot and a shoot out began. By the end of the shoot out at Pine ... Show more content on

In fact, the evidence is so inconclusive, contradictory, and vague that reasonable doubt abounds when
one tries to objectively look at the evidence at hand.
The evidence linking Peltier to the shooting of the either of the agents is non existent. First, there are
major problems with linking Peltier to any gun that may have caused a fatal injury. According to FBI
documentation, the FBI found a damaged AR 15 rifle in the burned out car of another AIM activist,
Robert Robideau, who was also at the Jumping Bull Compound on the day of June 26, 1975
(Incident). The FBI later would assert that the gun was Peltier s, and that it was matched to a shell
casing found in the trunk of one the agents cars.
However, according to a documented FBI ballistics test carried out on October 12, 1975, the AR 15
rifle found in Robideau s car didn t match bullet found on the scene; even if it is assumed to be Peltier
s gun, the gun cannot be linked to any bullets found in the crime scene (Incident). The FBI also did
another, less effective form of test on the bullet that showed that the bullet might have come from the
damaged gun. (Incident) However, since the second method of testing was more prone to fault, error,
and interpretation of the agents, it should not be used in light of the first. The best the FBI could prove
from the test was that the bullet came from

Abscohost Evaluation
No matter how experienced one is with compiling and analyzing research, it continues to be an
overwhelming process. However, when carried out effectively, it can be one of the most rewarding
experiences of a researcher s career. When preparing my paper on the evolution of the Christmas
season, I first consulted EBSCOhost, which I have found to be very effective in locating detailed,
scholarly articles. Although this paper was for a psychology course, I decided to include articles from
all the databases EBSCOhost provides since many psychology related articles are in databases other
than PsycINFO or PsycARTICLES. For instance, in prior assignments, I have found that Academic
Search Premier and the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) provide many articles that
are valuable to my research. Additionally, I tried to use Dr. Pérez Lane s lectures and our course
textbook to make for a stronger paper by applying the concepts we learned in class to my paper. For

Analysis Of The Movie Copycat
Analysis of Copycat (1995) In the movie Copycat from 1995 there is a character named Helen Hudson
(Sigourney Weaver) who is a psychiatrist that studies the behavior of serial killers. At the beginning of
the film she is giving a lecture at the University of San Francisco and at the end of the lecture, Daryll
Lee Cullum (Harry Connick, Jr.) follows Helen into the restroom and tries to hang her, but fails and
gets locked up in prison. Thirteen months later, Helen suffers from panic attacks and agoraphobia
which have resulted from her Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She has been housebound for months
now and has a homosexual assistant named Andy (John Rothman). Darryl Lee is in contact with
William McNamara, another psychopath who wants to follow in Darryl Lee s footsteps and become
famous. So Darryl Lee tells William to continue his work of killing Helen. He does this by copying
other serial killer signatures such as John Wayne Gacy, the Boston strangler, and Son of Sam etc.
Three murders have occurred and Helen notices through newspapers that each murder seems to be
done by one person. Therefore, she calls the police to leave an anonymous tip and they mock her and
brush her off as a prank call. However, Officer M.J. Monaham (Holly Hunter) becomes curious and
starts to think that Helen would be able to add to the investigation. So she obtains the case files and
wants to get Helen s opinion on the case. At first Helen is reluctant to help because as M.J. Monaham

Technological Surveillance Should Not Keep Up With The...
Technological surveillance is used in a wide field of areas from wiretapping, hacking, bugging,
electronic tracking, video surveillance and so on, but, when used by the government, technological
surveillance creates a particularly dramatic threat to the privacy of individual citizens (p. 354),
although this is uncertain to the government if it is indeed goes against citizen s privacy. Technology
advances so quickly, that the law cannot keep up with the swift changes. The first issue involving
technological surveillance was in the case Olmstead v. United States (1928), when officer s
wiretapped Olmstead home phone from across the street from a telephone pole. The problem with this
case was if the wire tapping a violation of the fourth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case Silverman v. United States (1961) a search warrant was required because the officers
physical penetrated through the defendants house. The issue involving privacy is found in the case
Katz v. United States (1967) where agents attached a recorded device to a phone booth in order to hear
a conversation. The question of privacy came up when they attached the device to the phone booth,
although it was not Katz property, it was the fact that a phone booth is used and designed for privacy,
so this case would require a warrant and they courts, excluded the conversations thereby obtained, in
the process overturning Olmstead and rejecting the trespass doctrine. Because the government action
violated the privacy upon which Katz justifiably relied while using the telephone booth (p. 357)
therefore the bugging went against the Fourth Amendment. There has to be a fine line on which
devices protect our Fourth Amendment rights and how are they being determined. Well in the case
Berger v. New York (1967) it notified the states that statutes authorizing eavesdropping under court
order would, at the least, have to comply with traditional Fourth Amendment search warrant
requirement (p. 358). Due to Berger and Katz, congress congress passed Title III of the Omnibus
Crime Control and Safe streets Act of 196. (p. 358). Title III

The Greek Island Of Crete
Located on the Greek island of Crete is the ancient Palace of Knossos. It is found on the outskirts of
the modern day city, Heraklion. The city of Knossos, as shown below, is directly focused in the centre
of Crete and is slightly off the north coast. Even more so, it is situated south of the Greek mainland.
Knossos, in simplistic terms, is an ancient Minoan palace and surrounding city on the island of Crete,
where it was sung of by Homer in his Odyssey. The marvelled settlement was established in 1900
BCE and was later destroyed by a combination of factors, such as earthquakes and invading
Mycenaean s. However, it was rebuilt to its former glory. The palace covered an area of 22,000 square
meters, which was complimented by multistorey buildings with an elaborate layout. Before its
discovery, Knossos was considered as a city of myth. Evidently, this immediately changed once this
ancient society was unearthed to reveal the mysteries that were for years left unknown. To this day, the
reconstructed palace is on display for tourists from around the world to gain an insight into the ancient
Minoan society.
The excavations at Knossos were executed into three main dating periods: 1900 1931, 1957 1960,
1969 1970. The initial investigation of this site that began in 1900, however, comprised of the most
important discoveries. The excavations at Knossos were extensive, in which multiple archaeologists
were required to unearth this grand piece of

his gas and told the cashier Lopez to call the police. As Aguirre went into his van and drove off he
noticed that the man with the knife had went in to the store and was struggling with the victim Lopez.
Aguirre then pulled off the freeway and drove to a nearby bowling alley to ask a security guard to call
the police. Aguirre returned 30 minutes later to the Shamrock gas station right when the police began
arriving. Right when Aguirre arrived he began identifying Deluna as the man with the knife, except
this time Deluna no longer had on a white shirt. Around the same time two other witnesses observed a
hispanic man jogging east away from the Shamrock; in an untucked white dress shirt rolled up
sleeves. Both witnessed that it was Deluna running away from the Shamrock gas station. Now it was
in the hands of the witnesses and police officers on what information to rely on to catch the killer.
Though the first witness Baker was face to face with the attacker he said that the killer had a
mustache. However the last two witnesses that encountered the man jogging away from the gas station
stated that the man had no beard or visible hair on the face. They described his face as clean shaved.
Because Carlos Deluna was running away from the scene and looked like the attacker, police
suspected him and arrested him immediately. Police found him hiding a few blocks

Robespierre And The Sans Culottes Declared Essay
The month of September would be remembered as one of the bloodiest months in French history, in
particular, September 5, 1793. On this day, Robespierre and the Sans Culottes declared terror is the
order of the day. These words would begin a period of violence where the enemies of the Revolution
were executed en masse. Between 1793 and 1794, thousands of French citizens were imprisoned and
hundreds were killed by a group called the Committee of Public Safety. They claimed they were
acting in the best interest of the people, but were, in fact, acting in the interest of wiping out their
political adversaries. The head of this committee was political leader Maximilien Robespierre. He was
referred to as the incorruptible by his peers because of his unwavering commitment to the Revolution.
By the end of this period however, he would fall victim to his own committee. This would be the end
of The Terror. The Terror cannot be isolated as a great event of the French Revolution without first
examining the events that lead to it. The flight of King Louis XVI and his family, the eventual
execution of the king and Marie Antoinette, the purge of the Girodins as a political group, and the
assassination of radical journalist, Jean Paul Marat, are a few of the significant events that lead to
terror being called the order of the day. Although there are many other significant events throughout
the French Revolution, the aforementioned occurrences are key in what led to the

There Will Come Soft Rains , a short story by world renown author Ray Bradbury, the narrator tells
the story of a house in Allendale California, in the year 2026. The setting in this short story is very

nuclear war. The story takes place over the course of one day: August 4, 2026 . The house that is
described to the reader is the last house left standing, it s deserted and surrounded by rubbles but it s
still technologically intact. The setting in this story takes a major role, it provides insight into the story,

very significant, a reader should never forget the importance of the setting in a story. This short story
is a perfect example of the importance of the setting, since it is through it that the reader is able to

Different Periods Of Music Have Different Characteristics
Different periods of music have different characteristics. For impressionist era, it was between
romantic period and the 20th century. There were some similarities within these two periods, like the
contrasts of dynamics and pitch in the former period, while the melody is fragmented in the latter
period. One of the famous composers, Claude Debussy, liked to compose music through harmony and
exotic scale. An example of his pieces was Danse sacree et profane composed in 1904. It consists of
two parts with the meaning of sacred and profane, and most characteristics of the 20th century music.
The two parts of Danse sacree et profane are not fully distinct but give me different feelings. What I
first heard was the narrow use of instruments that is performed by a string orchestra, consisting of two
violins, cello, viola, and double bass. These emphasize the solo Harp used in this piece and outline its
characteristics. The piece is well organized as the Harp plays the main melody of this music, while the
strings are used for accompaniment. The orchestration moves between strings and the harp, and plays
open octaves that are in unison with melody in a few moments.
Overall, the melodies move slightly with simple intervals and straightforward rhythmic patterns.
Whole tone scales are used throughout two parts, which is one of the most common practices by
Debussy. Moreover, this piece is in the binary form due to the division of two parts. Yet, it can be
considered as a rounded

The Role of Competition Phineas was a born athlete. Gene on the other hand was the exact opposite.

novel, A Separate Peace. In a sense, it s what made the connection between Phineas and Gene so
strong. It also played a part in wedging a gap between Phineas and Gene. The author made it feel as
though Gene was the one that competed so fully in the pair s relationship when Finny was supposed to

Argumentative Essay On Human Trafficking
Many forms of modern day slavery still exist. The most popular form is human trafficking and it has
become one of the most profitable businesses in the world. Overall human trafficking is a problem
worldwide, and there are millions of men, woman, and children around who are victims of it (Piranty,
Human). They are bought and sold as commodities into prostitution and forced labor. Many victims are
sometimes tricked and lured by false promises or physically forced into this trade. Human trafficking
that ends with teens in sexual slavery is on the rise in South Florida, according to Sun Sentinel, every
family regardless of income, education, or location could become a victim (Sun Sentinel). Human
trafficking is a growing epidemic destroying communities all over the state of Florida by depriving an
individual of his or her natural right to freedom of will and choice, expanding gang activity, and
robbing the innocence of the world s youth, but in turn we could put an end to it.
According to CNN Freedom project, slavery occurs when one person completely controls another
person, using violence or the threat of violence to maintain that control (Bryfonski, 2013). By taking
away an individual s freedom and rights that go along with it, you are denying them their freedoms
based on the United States Constitution. Being that trafficking is constructed on the mistreatment of
individuals, all victims of trafficking may suffer from physical and psychological issues (Human

Auditory Processing and Schizophrenia Auditory hallucination is a fundamental presentation observed
in patients suffering from schizophrenia. It is one of the frequently occurring symptoms considered to

in order to comprehend the pathophysiology of auditory hallucination, little success has been realized,
and it remains to be complex in research, understanding, and expressing the knowledge accrued

The auditory nature in schizophrenics is associated with a possible deficit in the auditory processing.
The deficit can either be due to the dysfunction of the sensory aspect of the process of the auditory
information processing centers in the brain. The earlier studies employed dichotic tasks of listening to
establish the site for the dysfunction causing the auditory deficit, but they yielded variable results.
Other studies have gone further to confirm that schizophrenia auditory processing deficits result in the
reduced advantage of the right ear in auditory sensory modality as compared to the healthy
individuals. However, for dichotic tasks involving quick responses four or three digit pairs in
succession, schizophrenic patients demonstrated right ear advantage as compared to the healthy
individuals (Kaprinis, 2008). The findings can confirm that the dysfunction in the auditory processing
is in different levels; hence, the variability in the results. It is vital to understand that schizophrenic
patients demonstrate a variation of other deficits in regard to information processing apart from
auditory processing deficits. Whether the deficits are in higher levels such as attention and the
processing of context or the dysfunction is in the earlier stages of

Trends in the Industry of IT and the Business Cycles Essay
The name information technology was used for the first time in 1958, in an article in Harvard
Business Review and since that time this industry has seen only innovations throughout the history.
Some problems that the industry is facing are the increase competition from the offshore and inshore
players, the slow growth of the hardware sales, the decrease in the IT spending globally etc. But
despite all the problems and challenges that the industry is facing, the opportunities are many. One of
the most important ones is the increased number of the smart device users which is established as a
very profitable segment for the information technology segment.

The slowdown in the IT spending globally
According to information technology industry estimates, global IT spending growth has been 2%
which is smaller than the previous forecast of 4.1% for 2013. The decrease in the IT spending by
enterprises as the cut on capital expenditure is due to economic uncertainties prevailing globally
which could negatively impact the IBM s revenue growth.
Competition from offshore players
The competition from offshore players has been increasing in recently. Offshore IT outsourcers are
selling directly to the end users and in this way they compete directly with the local suppliers of these
services such as IBM. This phenomenon creates a highly competitive industry which makes
companies to continually search for ways to differentiate themselves from their competitors.
SlowGrowth in the hardware segment
One of the main problems is the slow growth in the hardware segment. IBM sales growth has been flat
in the last quarters because the company has been unable to successfully close new multimillion
dollars hardware and software deals in the last year because of the bad economic conditions. The
hardware sales have been declining because different firms prefer moving to cloud services which run
largely on low cost hardware often custom build for cloud architectures. IBMs revenues from servers
and hardware have been decreasing a lot. Even though IBM moved to a new high value area such as

Question 2:
What do you make of the battle between Gillette and Schick? Is the battle of one upmanship good for
either company?
The war has first started around 1962 with Schick introducing the first stainless steel blade by this
decreasing Gillette s market share. Yet Gillette was lucky because Schick couldn t exploit the niche it
has created and Schick ended up in selling its blades to Gillette. Another technology was introduced
by Schick in 2003, the Quattro four bladed razor to gain market share from Gillette. The battle of one

advancements in the wet shaving industry. Gillette has always dominated the shaving market since its
founding in 1901. Currently, Gillette controls 70% of the wet shaving market. Schick claims roughly
18%. I think Gillette must always be cautious of schick and fair competition is always healthy for
companies since it keeps them on edge with advancements to gain more market

Roots Movie Analysis
Roots, the movie or series, is closely based on Alex Haley s novel about his ancestors from Africa who
were forced into slavery. The series begins with the life of Kunta Kinte, a young boy from Gambia,
West Africa who has been captured and kidnapped by slave raiders. He reluctantly goes from being
surrounded by loving family and friends to being forced into slavery half way across the world from
everything he knows. Episode one of the historical series mainly depicts Kunta s home life in Gambia.
We observe as Kunta Kinte develops into a fearless, responsible teenager. He then attends manhood
training in his village of Mandika and is transformed into an adult man in his society. This is where
Kunta Kinte first witnesses the presence of white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although I ve only watched two episodes, I feel like I m connected to Kunta Kinte. His story is so sad,
inspiring, and exciting. It left me wondering what is going to happen next. It makes me question if
Kunta will survive and escape. Also it makes me question if he ll ever be united with Fanta and his
family again. This movie is very deep and difficult to watch because it forces me reflect on how badly
Africans and African Americans have been treated, but it also makes me proud that things are better. I
believe that this movie is historically accurate because the portrayal of the conditions on the ship was
as badly as they were during slavery. I feel this movie accurately depicts life as an African slave and
how hard it is to let go of everything someone has learned and conform to a new identity. I believe the
movie explains all points of perception from the slaves point of view to the slave owners to the
capturers and even the captain of the ship s experience. Although the movie is dramatized, it is very
believable. I would rate this movie an 8.5 so far because I haven t had the chance to see the whole
thing. I am intrigued to see what more there is in store for Kunta Kinte and his

Descriptive Essay About Dreams
I felt the gentle warmth of the sunlight touch my face. The soft grass swayed in the cool air, tickling
my nose. The forest air was rich and I inhaled it as I opened my eyes a bit, being met with the
breathtaking forest around me. Sunlight was passing through small gaps in the jaded tree line, making
them a lighter shade of green. It was so quiet, with only the subtle breeze brushing against the giant
trees making noise. I let out a small breath of awe, forgetting almost completely about the dream.
Almost. I ll never get used to this. A high voice spoke from behind me. I jumped a little in surprise
before settling back down, thinking it was the stranger from my dream, but remembering who really
was there. Strange that after all these months of solitary within the forest with her, I would still jump
at the sound of any voice beside that of my own. I turned my head to face the human girl behind me,
sitting on a large rock covered in green moss. She was staring at the flowers that bloomed when the
sunlight touched them with mesmerizing brown eyes. Yeah, I don t think anyone can get used to this, I
responded, turning back and closing my eyes, letting the sunlight touch my skin again. It was quiet
again, except now the birds began to chirp. We sat there for a while, letting it all sink it. Too bad we
will have to go back today. She said. I sighed and turned back around, eyeing her. She caught my stare
and returned it. There they were. The words I ve been dreading for all

The Selling of Women in America Essay
The Selling of Women in America
Beautiful, skin tight clothing, thin, blonde, long hair, and big breasted women are what people
normally think of when they think of television commercials. This is very stereotypical but how
stereotypical is it? Look at the media anymore and this is what the audience sees. There may be a
change here and there with the hair color and how tight the clothing is but in all honestly this is what
the public is seeing on television screens if they sit there and watch the television screens. Our society
has brought about the sex appeal in women to sell their products. How true is all of this? From a series
of surveys, an interview, observation, and case study I have chosen to prove that a certain type of ...

Expert And Expert Opinion Evidence
Expert evidence is a testimony given by expert witnesses. An expert witness is therefore a person who
is allowed to give their opinion in a court of law because of their knowledge or skill in a particular

expertise.
There are no specific rules as to who may testify as an expert. Expert witness, however, must have a

knowledge or experience in the subject under investigation.
Expert opinion evidence is admissible when it provides the court with information which is likely to

medical conditions or other relevant field. They are to educate the court about matters which lie within
their specialisation or to convey relevant aspects of their knowledge, skill, or experience to the court.
This is due to the assumption that the court is unfamiliar with such area of knowledge or skill.
The experts must also offer opinion evidence which is related in their field of expertise, or the experts

Titration Of Hcl Lab Report
For this experiment, a series of strong acid strong base titrations were performed to determine the
unknown solution concentration of HCl. KHP was first titrated with NaOH in order to create a
standardized solution of NaOH. This solution was used to titrate a known volume of the unknown 1
HCl solution. The results were then used to determine the exact concentration of the original HCl
sample. One thing that could be changed during this lab is to use a more neutralized sample of
deionized water. Throughout the rinsing process of the pH probe, the deionized water s pH reading
would be more basic instead of neutral. Therefore, when testing the pH of the analyte, the results were
slightly basic rather than having a pH of zero. This could have resulted in the pH of the solutions
being slightly off when it came to the LabQuest readings.
The volumes of NaOH titrated at the endpoint and equivalence point related to one another throughout
the experiment. The volume was always greater at the endpoint than at the equivalence point. For the
titration of HCl and NaOH, the amount of NaOH added at the endpoint was 9.00 mL and the 2nd
derivative curve amount was 9.033 mL. Throughout Trial 2 and titrations of KHP and NaOH, this
same trend was seen. The most accurate volume amount of NaOH was determined by looking at the
equivalence point. This is the point where all of the H+ was neutralized by OH . The endpoint is

The Physical Appearance of Class Differences and Wealth
Do you consider yourself a part of the upper class? In the society in which we live in today, it is
widely known that people at higher social classes obtain finer access to premier education. On account
of the statement previously mentioned, prestigious institutions steer the way to more business
relationships and eventually, a greater chance of obtaining a higher income due to increased job
opportunities presented through connections and networking. This concept is known as elitism and is
fairly popular belief amongst the competitive population. Elitism is the belief that certain persons or
members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived
superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources1 . But I would like to question the basic
premise of this argument since there is something more than just wealth which determines one s social
class. The argument I make throughout my paper focuses on the aspect of why attractive people are,
on average, wealthier and have higher paying jobs than less attractive people. This statement is a
theory I do not stand by alone. In order to persuade and convince to my readers that attractive people
are more successful, I will be citing documentation of well known facts reported by leading
psychologists, economists, and their research studies. A book that I occasionally will be referencing to

the child of poor sharecroppers working for a white farmer. She overcomes obstacles such as
discrimination and hunger as she struggles to survive childhood in one of the most racially
discriminated states in America. In telling the story of her life, Moody shows why the civil rights

Soon after Moody entered high school, Emmett Till, a fourteen year old boy from Chicago, was killed
for whistling at a white woman. After hearing about the murder, Moody realized she really did not
know much about what was going on around her. ?Before Emmett Till?s murder, I had known the fear
of hunger hell and the Devil but now there was a new fear known to me ? the fear of being killed just
because I was black.? Moody?s response to this was asking her high school teacher, Mrs. Rice, about
Emmett?s murder and the NAACP.
Moody was a very eager learner and constantly exceeded her classmates. She was an excellent student
and though she far surpassed the performance of her white cousin, she was not considered to be equal,
let alone superior. She did not let this affect her in any way. One word to describe Moody would be

The Sukuma people of northwestern Tanzania, resting on the southern shore of Lake Victoria, have
been greatly impacted by the increasing global markets in the region. While the Sukuma are dispersed

of the impacts of globalization and the involvement of European countries with fisheries along the

First, according to Jenkins (1996) culture profile of the Sukuma people, the group has lived in their
current area of Tanzania since 1300 CE. During the first millennium, there were vast migrations of

is estimated that there are around 5.5 million Sukuma people, and they are thought to account for up to
90% of the population in the city of Mwanza (Jenkins 1996), which has a population of around 2.8

group in Tanzania. Some Sukuma live in the infamous Serengeti Plain, and in Shinyanga, and some
have migrated further south into various other areas. The Sukuma speak a Bantu language that is
similar to the national language of Tanzania; Swahili, although it is tonal making it differ from Swahili

Does Chivalry Live Today?
In current society people are becoming more impatient, disrespectful, and self centered. While this self
centered attitude may fulfill immediate needs, long term consequences of this lifestyle can lead to the
erosion of society. The problem is that younger generations are adopting this new lifestyle where they
become more selfish and rude. Thus, everyone around them becomes selfish, and, as a result, society

Research Paper On William Carey India
William Carey spent his years as a missionary in the country of India, arriving first in Calcutta, then
relocating to Serampore. Over 100 years before Carey stepped foot on the ground of India, Job
Charnok chose the place of Calcutta, India to be a place for a British trade settlement. Job Charnok
was an agent of the East India Company. He spent a plethora of time searching for the best place for
the site. This site was the perfect spot because it was protected by the Hooghly River on the west side,

He was then able to use this press to publish the Bengali prose, as well as print countless Bibles in
multiple different languages for the people of India. This included the Bengali translation of the Bible,
which Carey reformed from its fallen state into the most prominent language of the region. He was
then able to use this Bible that he published in order to spread the gospel even farther into the crevices
of India. This was not the only translation that the Mission Press was able to publish. Between 1801
and 1832 the press printed 212,000 copies of books in 40 different languages. Even though that was a
huge accomplishment, it was seen as a passive role in the culture. Only people of higher standards of
living like landlords and businessmen, were able to seize the opportunity for higher education for their
children. They sent their children to the schools of the missionaries. On the other side of the spectrum,
people from the lower classes were unable to send their children to those schools. They sent them to
the monitorial schools around them, which is basically provided a basic education for the students.
During this same time, the Serampore Mission Press bought out the English Daily, which was a

New Wave Cinema
In David Cook s, A History of Narrative Film, it is said that the prevailing mode of postwar French
cinema was literary adaption, which caused French films to become increasingly verbal and theatrical.
It was against this tendency identified as the tradition of quality by Francois Truffaut and the other
critics writing in Cashiers du Cinema, that the New Wave reacted in the late 1950 s and 1960 s.

The word stakeholder has been frequently used to refer to a person or organization which has close

If an entity is owned and operate by an individual and there is no way to distinguish property of the

Depression and the Great Recession, and what policies were implemented to reverse the economic
downfalls. The Great Depression of 1929 is said to have many causes. In an article on about.com
Martin Kelly states there were five main causes of the Great Depression. First is the stock market

Total unemployment rose from just over three percent in 1929 to just over twenty five percent in 1933,
and did not increase back up to just over seventeen percent in 1939. By 1933 wages had fallen in
every industry, with construction being affected the worst, where wages had dropped by half. Wages
in 1933 were twenty five percent lower than in 1929. These decreases in wages caused decreases in
purchasing across the board. Durable and nondurable sales alike decreased. Nondurable goods fell by
forty one percent, where durable goods suffered the most and declined by sixty two percent. In the
midst of the depression farmers also had a difficult time where usually they would have been able to
survive. Unfortunately, the Great Plains were hit hard with both a drought and dust storms. The dust
storms destroyed everything in their paths, leaving farmers without their crops. Small farmers were hit
the hardest. Even before the dust storms hit, the invention of the tractor drastically cut the need for
manpower on farms. The small farms were usually already in debt, borrowing money for seed and
paying it back when their crops came in. When the dust storms damaged the crops, not only could the
small farmer not feed himself or his family, he could not pay back his debt. Banks would foreclose on
the farms and the farmer and his family would be both homeless and unemployed. Millions of people
were out of work across the United States. Many people hit the road

Philosophy and Christian Theology
Many of the doctrines and concepts central to Christianity have important philosophical implications
or presuppositions. In this article we will take a closer look at some of the central doctrines and
concepts, and their philosophical relevance.
Of course, many philosophically laden doctrines and concepts are relevant to Christianity, and we
cannot discuss them all here. Rather, our focus will be on those concepts and doctrines that are
distinctively Christian, and which have been the focus of a good deal of recent discussion in the
philosophical literature. Thus, although theism is a central Christian concept, it is not distinctively
Christian and so will not be covered here. Further, although views about the Eucharist, a central ...

First, philosophical reasoning might persuade some who do not accept the authority of purported
divine revelation of the claims contained in religious texts. Thus, an atheist who is unwilling to accept
the authority of religious texts might come to believe that God exists on the basis of purely
philosophical arguments. Second, distinctively philosophical techniques might be brought to bear in
helping the theologian clear up imprecise or ambiguous theological claims. Thus, theology might
provide us with information sufficient to conclude that Jesus Christ was a single person with two
natures, one human and one divine, but leave us in the dark about exactly how this relationship
between divine and human natures is to be understood. The philosopher can provide some assistance
here, since, among other things, he or she can help the theologian discern which models are, for
example, logically inconsistent and thus not even candidates for understanding the relationship of
divine and human natures in Christ.
For most of the twentieth century, the vast majority of English language philosophy went on without
much interaction with theology at all. While there are a number of complex reasons for this divorce,
three are especially important. The first is that atheism was the predominant opinion among English
language philosophers throughout much of that century.
A second, quite related reason is that, philosophers in the twentieth century

Persuasive Essay On Site Composts
I believe that there should be composting because it will help out the environment and will save lots of
money. Uneaten foods should not just go to waste and go in the trash, it should be recycled and used
as soil and fertilizer. Schools with space on their campus can consider onsite composting in addition to
or instead ofsending food scraps off site. Most schools send a lot of food offsite or just put it to waste
which they really dont want to do. There are benefits and drawbacks to on site composting. The
benefits are clear: Students see what is happening to their food scraps; they learn to tend the pile; and
they can do research on the pile by conducting experiments. Students also reap what they sow. At the
end of the year there is a

Orson Wells
Orson Welles: The Man, the Myth... the Communist?
One of the most promising artists of our day, One of the most accomplished dramatic artists of the
twentieth century, and A major creative force and ultimate auteur, were all praises and titles from
major media moguls, publications, and critics given to Orson Welles. Not too shabby for someone
who hasn t even turned thirty yet, eh? Right out of the gate Welles proved to be an innovative and
artistic force that could hold its own, and even surpass, the heavy hitters of his day. His career seemed
to be on a steady incline for almost a decade; however, did his talent and work hit a plateau? Welles
was always seen as an active political figure that was not afraid to voice or project ... Show more

In 1941 it eventually became Citizen Kane, Welles s first feature film and also his most famous and
honored role ( Orson 8). The film was well received, by almost all critics, and not only did it gain nine
Academy Award nominations, but it is also hailed as one of the greatest films ever made. His second
film for RKO, The Magnificent Ambersons, also received several nominations, including Best Picture
( Orson 9).
All of these endeavors would build Orson Welles to a status of high fame and reputation that expanded
just the boarders of the United States. Why then just a few years later does Welles leave the country
and his opportunities in Hollywood to live in Europe for the next several years of his life? According
to Joseph McBride s What Ever Happened to Orson Welles? A Portrait of an Independent Career,
Welles incurred the wrath of right wing publisher William Randolph Hearst for not only his radio,
theatre, and film work, but also his personal and political stances as well. Attacking Hearst and all that
he represented within the American ruling elite, in McBride s words, brought down the wrath of a
whole powerful network of right wing Communist hunters, including the FBI, the Dies Committee,
and the American Legion, all of which were allied with and supported by the vociferously anti red
publisher (McBride 45).
Welles s inability to get a picture off the ground began when he

Community Oriented Policing
Community Oriented Policing
In spite of the fact that the United States still exceeds many other industrialized nations in overall
crime and violent crime, it has been effective in decreasing its crime rate, particularly during the
1990s. While some coalitions have attributed this positive development to changes in socio
demographic trends and rigid enforcement approaches, one coalition highlights the success of the
community oriented policing and problem oriented policing in eradicating the root causes of crime
(Stephens, 2003). While I don t believe that community oriented policing in the sole cause of
decreased crime rates I do believe that it has its positive and negative sides.
Community oriented policing is based on the complete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem with this model is that it is difficult for police departments to dedicate officer to public
relations while there are serious crimes that need to be prevented. The idea of the public reporting
crimes to the police in a community meeting is acceptable but in many cases especially with the
current economic crisis that we are facing, it is impossible for police departments to have officers
strictly assigned to community police. As discussed earlier without full cooperation from both sides
the practice of community police is ineffective.
The community policing plan created by the City of Aberdeen in Maryland provides a good example
of how the partnership between the police and members of the community can be effective for dealing
with crimes. In order to promote the police and community s adoption of these new roles, the Mid
Atlantic Regional Community Policing Institute (MARCPI), along with the Johns Hopkins University,
will offer training to the police and the community. Both the police and the community have to learn
how to change their thinking processes in order to deal with the problems in a proactive way, instead
of the conventional reactive fashion. Through the training sessions, the members of the community,
the police officers and city department heads will acquire the skills and knowledge for addressing
problems. The involvement of the city department heads and other

Descriptive Essay About Airport
I m so nervous! I said to my sister as we stepped out of the car grabbing our luggage and making our
way into the airport. When we got in, I took a long glance of everything around since this was a
completely new experience to me. The ceilings were high, the lines were very long, spaces were
cramped, and there were many stores full of souvenirs and anything you could think of. I wasn t
expecting it to be so busy and packed since it was like 5 o clock in the morning. I didn t know what I
had to do so I just shadowed behind as we got into line to get through security and bag check and then
to finally make our way onto the plane. And that whole process surprisingly took about 2 3 hours.
I slowly walked onto the plane still with a ton of nervousness and anxiety, filling up my thoughts with
I can t do this or a I can definitely do this just not ready enough.
I first sat down next to my sisters friend but then chose to sit next to my mom. I had to put my carry
on in the overhead bin, but since I could barely reach to that point, someone was nice enough to help
me in putting my luggage into that spot. I sat down and watched my other sister walk right by us with
my nephew since their seat was way in the back. My mom turned and asked You ready? and I said no
because I truly thought that I wasn t. She told me that I would be just fine and that s when I started to
question if I was overreacting or not. The plane was starting to get ready to take off so my whole body

Why Wonderland Could Be Seen As A Dream
Why Wonderland could be seen as a dream? Dreams just like Wonderland are illogical. Time also
flows differently than it would in reality and there is no need to fear any life threating circumstances
but we will be fine after we wake up. Wonderland seems to have a very twisted logic, one that could
be compared to a dream s where things seem to make sense at the time but in reality could not be
plausible. There are many example of twisted logic, the most obvious would be how all the animals
can talk, and the Cheshire Cat in particular can disappear and reappear at whim. Another instance is
the game of croquet. A real game of croquet is highly structured and each player waits their turn.
However, in Wonderland the game of croquet is chaotic

Tarachand Chakravarti one of the leaders of the Young Bengal group was appointed the secretary of
the organisation. Weekly service was held originally, every Saturday evening; later it was transferred
to Wednesday, a practice which has been retained to this day at the Brahmamandir of Tagore s
Shantiniketan. It consisted of three successive parts, viz. recitation of the Vedas by Telegu Brahmins in
the closed apartment exclusively before the Brahmin members of the congregation, reading and
exposition of the Upanishads for the general audience, and singing of religious hymns. This would
correspond exactly to the reading of the Bible, the sermon and the hymns of Christian worship, and on
this point Rammohun s previous Unitarian contacts had certainly been of considerable help by
providing him with a model of congregational worship which was alien to the spirit of Hinduism. The
parallelism however was confined exclusively to the outward form. The contents of Rammohun s
universal worship were thoroughly Hindu in character. The reading of the vedas exclusively before the
Brahmin participant does not apparently accord well with the universal and non sectarian ideals of the
new church as set forth in its Trust Deed. But the only custodian of Vedic rituals in Calcutta at that
moment was the orthodox Telegu Brahmin community and its members could not be persuaded to
recite the Vedas before Brahmins and non Brahmins alike. That Rammohun and his

Nineteenth-Century Exploration And On A Farther Shore The...
Both in the books, The Humboldt Current: Nineteenth Century Exploration and the Roots of American
Environmentalism and On a Farther Shore the Life and Legacy of Rachel Carson, the authors are
trying to prove that the individuals whom they wrote about deserve a place in the ongoing narrative of
Environmentalism. Alexander Von Humboldt and Rachel Carson showed how their subjects were led
to a life of environmentalism by their passion. Whether it was from a love of the water or a love to
explore, both of these individuals were led down a road of environmentalism. Although their
accomplishments are completely different, it does not mean that one is more significant than the other.
The fact that they had different results can easily be explained by the different times in which these
two individuals were alive and active. Humboldt s journey did not begin until 1799, which was 108
years before Carson was even born. They had different passions, which led to different results, but in
the end, they were both incredibly significant. Aaron Sachs (author of The Humboldt Current) does a
great job of describing the incredibly interesting journeys that Humboldt had. From his trip to
Venezuela to the United States, and everything in between, Sachs painted a picture of an explorer on a
mission to study new land, to discover new things, and to develop ideas about these new areas and
pass those ideas on to the rest of the world. Humboldt was more than an explorer, he was truly a
scientist.

  • 2. Essay about Leonard Peltier Should be Released from Prison Leonard Peltier is currently serving time in the Leavenworth federal penitentiary for the shooting deaths of two Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) agents. According to FBI documents, at around 11:50 A.M. on June 26th, 1975, agents Jack Color and Ron Williams were supposedly searching for Jimmy Eagle, a thief wanted for stealing a pair of cowboy boots. The agents encroached on the Jumping Bull Compound in Oglala, South Dakota of the Pine Ridge reservation, in two separate vehicles that no one could recognize (Incident). In this area, there were several members of the American Indian Movement (AIM). After the intrusion of the agents, someone and it is unsure who fired a shot and a shoot out began. In fact, the evidence is so inconclusive, contradictory, and vague that reasonable doubt abounds when one tries to objectively look at the evidence at hand. The evidence linking Peltier to the shooting of the either of the agents is non existent. First, there are major problems with linking Peltier to any gun that may have caused a fatal injury. According to FBI documentation, the FBI found a damaged AR 15 rifle in the burned out car of another AIM activist, Robert Robideau, who was also at the Jumping Bull Compound on the day of June 26, 1975 (Incident). The FBI later would assert that the gun was Peltier s, and that it was matched to a shell casing found in the trunk of one the agents cars. However, according to a documented FBI ballistics test carried out on October 12, 1975, the AR 15 rifle found in Robideau s car didn t match bullet found on the scene; even if it is assumed to be Peltier s gun, the gun cannot be linked to any bullets found in the crime scene (Incident). The FBI also did another, less effective form of test on the bullet that showed that the bullet might have come from the damaged gun. (Incident) However, since the second method of testing was more prone to fault, error, and interpretation of the agents, it should not be used in light of the first. The best the FBI could prove from the test was that the bullet came from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, when carried out effectively, it can be one of the most rewarding experiences of a researcher s career. When preparing my paper on the evolution of the Christmas season, I first consulted EBSCOhost, which I have found to be very effective in locating detailed, scholarly articles. Although this paper was for a psychology course, I decided to include articles from all the databases EBSCOhost provides since many psychology related articles are in databases other than PsycINFO or PsycARTICLES. For instance, in prior assignments, I have found that Academic Search Premier and the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) provide many articles that are valuable to my research. Additionally, I tried to use Dr. Pérez Lane s lectures and our course textbook to make for a stronger paper by applying the concepts we learned in class to my paper. Technological surveillance is used in a wide field of areas from wiretapping, hacking, bugging, electronic tracking, video surveillance and so on, but, when used by the government, technological surveillance creates a particularly dramatic threat to the privacy of individual citizens (p. 354), although this is uncertain to the government if it is indeed goes against citizen s privacy. Technology advances so quickly, that the law cannot keep up with the swift changes. The first issue involving technological surveillance was in the case Olmstead v. The issue involving privacy is found in the case Katz v. United States (1967) where agents attached a recorded device to a phone booth in order to hear a conversation. The question of privacy came up when they attached the device to the phone booth, although it was not Katz property, it was the fact that a phone booth is used and designed for privacy, so this case would require a warrant and they courts, excluded the conversations thereby obtained, in the process overturning Olmstead and rejecting the trespass doctrine. Because the government action violated the privacy upon which Katz justifiably relied while using the telephone booth (p. 357) therefore the bugging went against the Fourth Amendment. There has to be a fine line on which devices protect our Fourth Amendment rights and how are they being determined. Well in the case Berger v. The city of Knossos, as shown below, is directly focused in the centre of Crete and is slightly off the north coast. Even more so, it is situated south of the Greek mainland. Knossos, in simplistic terms, is an ancient Minoan palace and surrounding city on the island of Crete, where it was sung of by Homer in his Odyssey. The marvelled settlement was established in 1900 BCE and was later destroyed by a combination of factors, such as earthquakes and invading Mycenaean s. However, it was rebuilt to its former glory. The palace covered an area of 22,000 square meters, which was complimented by multistorey buildings with an elaborate layout. Before its discovery, Knossos was considered as a city of myth. Evidently, this immediately changed once this ancient society was unearthed to reveal the mysteries that were for years left unknown. To this day, the reconstructed palace is on display for tourists from around the world to gain an insight into the ancient Minoan society. The excavations at Knossos were executed into three main dating periods: 1900 1931, 1957 1960, 1969 1970. On this day, Robespierre and the Sans Culottes declared terror is the order of the day. These words would begin a period of violence where the enemies of the Revolution were executed en masse. Between 1793 and 1794, thousands of French citizens were imprisoned and hundreds were killed by a group called the Committee of Public Safety. They claimed they were acting in the best interest of the people, but were, in fact, acting in the interest of wiping out their political adversaries. The head of this committee was political leader Maximilien Robespierre. He was referred to as the incorruptible by his peers because of his unwavering commitment to the Revolution. By the end of this period however, he would fall victim to his own committee. This would be the end of The Terror. The Terror cannot be isolated as a great event of the French Revolution without first examining the events that lead to it. The flight of King Louis XVI and his family, the eventual execution of the king and Marie Antoinette, the purge of the Girodins as a political group, and the assassination of radical journalist, Jean Paul Marat, are a few of the significant events that lead to terror being called the order of the day. For impressionist era, it was between romantic period and the 20th century. There were some similarities within these two periods, like the contrasts of dynamics and pitch in the former period, while the melody is fragmented in the latter period. One of the famous composers, Claude Debussy, liked to compose music through harmony and exotic scale. An example of his pieces was Danse sacree et profane composed in 1904. It consists of two parts with the meaning of sacred and profane, and most characteristics of the 20th century music. The two parts of Danse sacree et profane are not fully distinct but give me different feelings. What I first heard was the narrow use of instruments that is performed by a string orchestra, consisting of two violins, cello, viola, and double bass. These emphasize the solo Harp used in this piece and outline its characteristics. The piece is well organized as the Harp plays the main melody of this music, while the strings are used for accompaniment. The orchestration moves between strings and the harp, and plays open octaves that are in unison with melody in a few moments. Overall, the melodies move slightly with simple intervals and straightforward rhythmic patterns. Whole tone scales are used throughout two parts, which is one of the most common practices by Debussy. Moreover, this piece is in the binary form due to the division of two parts. Yet, it can be considered as a rounded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The soft grass swayed in the cool air, tickling my nose. The forest air was rich and I inhaled it as I opened my eyes a bit, being met with the breathtaking forest around me. Sunlight was passing through small gaps in the jaded tree line, making them a lighter shade of green. It was so quiet, with only the subtle breeze brushing against the giant trees making noise. I let out a small breath of awe, forgetting almost completely about the dream. Almost. I ll never get used to this. A high voice spoke from behind me. Strange that after all these months of solitary within the forest with her, I would still jump at the sound of any voice beside that of my own. I turned my head to face the human girl behind me, sitting on a large rock covered in green moss. She was staring at the flowers that bloomed when the sunlight touched them with mesmerizing brown eyes. Yeah, I don t think anyone can get used to this, I responded, turning back and closing my eyes, letting the sunlight touch my skin again. It was quiet again, except now the birds began to chirp. KHP was first titrated with NaOH in order to create a standardized solution of NaOH. This solution was used to titrate a known volume of the unknown 1 HCl solution. The results were then used to determine the exact concentration of the original HCl sample. One thing that could be changed during this lab is to use a more neutralized sample of deionized water. Throughout the rinsing process of the pH probe, the deionized water s pH reading would be more basic instead of neutral. Therefore, when testing the pH of the analyte, the results were slightly basic rather than having a pH of zero. This could have resulted in the pH of the solutions being slightly off when it came to the LabQuest readings. The volumes of NaOH titrated at the endpoint and equivalence point related to one another throughout the experiment. The volume was always greater at the endpoint than at the equivalence point. For the titration of HCl and NaOH, the amount of NaOH added at the endpoint was 9.00 mL and the 2nd derivative curve amount was 9.033 mL. Throughout Trial 2 and titrations of KHP and NaOH, this same trend was seen. The most accurate volume amount of NaOH was determined by looking at the equivalence point. • 40. The Great Depression Of 1929 Vs. The Great Recession Of 2008 The Great Depression of 1929 Vs. The Great Recession of 2008 In America there have been great economic struggles and triumphs. The many great leaders of this country have foraged, failed, and overcome some very difficult times. Comparing the Great Depression of 1929 and the Great Recession of 2008 has revealed similarities that by learning from our mistakes in 1929 could have prevented the latest recession. I will discuss the causes of the Great Depression and the Great Recession, and what policies were implemented to reverse the economic downfalls. The Great Depression of 1929 is said to have many causes. In an article on about.com Martin Kelly states there were five main causes of the Great Depression. First is the stock market crash ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Total unemployment rose from just over three percent in 1929 to just over twenty five percent in 1933, and did not increase back up to just over seventeen percent in 1939. By 1933 wages had fallen in every industry, with construction being affected the worst, where wages had dropped by half. Wages in 1933 were twenty five percent lower than in 1929. These decreases in wages caused decreases in purchasing across the board. Durable and nondurable sales alike decreased. Nondurable goods fell by forty one percent, where durable goods suffered the most and declined by sixty two percent. In the midst of the depression farmers also had a difficult time where usually they would have been able to survive. Unfortunately, the Great Plains were hit hard with both a drought and dust storms. The dust storms destroyed everything in their paths, leaving farmers without their crops. Small farmers were hit the hardest. Even before the dust storms hit, the invention of the tractor drastically cut the need for manpower on farms. The small farms were usually already in debt, borrowing money for seed and paying it back when their crops came in. When the dust storms damaged the crops, not only could the small farmer not feed himself or his family, he could not pay back his debt. Banks would foreclose on the farms and the farmer and his family would be both homeless and unemployed. Millions of people were out of work across the United States. Many people hit the road ... • 41. Philosophy and Christian Theology Many of the doctrines and concepts central to Christianity have important philosophical implications or presuppositions. In this article we will take a closer look at some of the central doctrines and concepts, and their philosophical relevance. Of course, many philosophically laden doctrines and concepts are relevant to Christianity, and we cannot discuss them all here. Rather, our focus will be on those concepts and doctrines that are distinctively Christian, and which have been the focus of a good deal of recent discussion in the philosophical literature. Thus, although theism is a central Christian concept, it is not distinctively Christian and so will not be covered here. Further, although views about the Eucharist, a central ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, philosophical reasoning might persuade some who do not accept the authority of purported divine revelation of the claims contained in religious texts. Thus, an atheist who is unwilling to accept the authority of religious texts might come to believe that God exists on the basis of purely philosophical arguments. Second, distinctively philosophical techniques might be brought to bear in helping the theologian clear up imprecise or ambiguous theological claims. Thus, theology might provide us with information sufficient to conclude that Jesus Christ was a single person with two natures, one human and one divine, but leave us in the dark about exactly how this relationship between divine and human natures is to be understood. The philosopher can provide some assistance here, since, among other things, he or she can help the theologian discern which models are, for example, logically inconsistent and thus not even candidates for understanding the relationship of divine and human natures in Christ. For most of the twentieth century, the vast majority of English language philosophy went on without much interaction with theology at all. While there are a number of complex reasons for this divorce, three are especially important. The first is that atheism was the predominant opinion among English language philosophers throughout much of that century. A second, quite related reason is that, philosophers in the twentieth century ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Persuasive Essay On Site Composts I believe that there should be composting because it will help out the environment and will save lots of money. Uneaten foods should not just go to waste and go in the trash, it should be recycled and used as soil and fertilizer. Schools with space on their campus can consider onsite composting in addition to or instead ofsending food scraps off site. Most schools send a lot of food offsite or just put it to waste which they really dont want to do. There are benefits and drawbacks to on site composting. The benefits are clear: Students see what is happening to their food scraps; they learn to tend the pile; and they can do research on the pile by conducting experiments. Students also reap what they sow. At the end of the year there is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His second film for RKO, The Magnificent Ambersons, also received several nominations, including Best Picture ( Orson 9). All of these endeavors would build Orson Welles to a status of high fame and reputation that expanded just the boarders of the United States. Why then just a few years later does Welles leave the country and his opportunities in Hollywood to live in Europe for the next several years of his life? According to Joseph McBride s What Ever Happened to Orson Welles? A Portrait of an Independent Career, Welles incurred the wrath of right wing publisher William Randolph Hearst for not only his radio, theatre, and film work, but also his personal and political stances as well. Attacking Hearst and all that he represented within the American ruling elite, in McBride s words, brought down the wrath of a whole powerful network of right wing Communist hunters, including the FBI, the Dies Committee, and the American Legion, all of which were allied with and supported by the vociferously anti red publisher (McBride 45). • 44. Community Oriented Policing Community Oriented Policing In spite of the fact that the United States still exceeds many other industrialized nations in overall crime and violent crime, it has been effective in decreasing its crime rate, particularly during the 1990s. While some coalitions have attributed this positive development to changes in socio demographic trends and rigid enforcement approaches, one coalition highlights the success of the community oriented policing and problem oriented policing in eradicating the root causes of crime (Stephens, 2003). The problem with this model is that it is difficult for police departments to dedicate officer to public relations while there are serious crimes that need to be prevented. The idea of the public reporting crimes to the police in a community meeting is acceptable but in many cases especially with the current economic crisis that we are facing, it is impossible for police departments to have officers strictly assigned to community police. As discussed earlier without full cooperation from both sides the practice of community police is ineffective. The community policing plan created by the City of Aberdeen in Maryland provides a good example of how the partnership between the police and members of the community can be effective for dealing with crimes. In order to promote the police and community s adoption of these new roles, the Mid Atlantic Regional Community Policing Institute (MARCPI), along with the Johns Hopkins University, will offer training to the police and the community. Both the police and the community have to learn how to change their thinking processes in order to deal with the problems in a proactive way, instead of the conventional reactive fashion. Through the training sessions, the members of the community, the police officers and city department heads will acquire the skills and knowledge for addressing problems. • 45. Descriptive Essay About Airport I m so nervous! I said to my sister as we stepped out of the car grabbing our luggage and making our way into the airport. When we got in, I took a long glance of everything around since this was a completely new experience to me. The ceilings were high, the lines were very long, spaces were cramped, and there were many stores full of souvenirs and anything you could think of. I wasn t expecting it to be so busy and packed since it was like 5 o clock in the morning. I didn t know what I had to do so I just shadowed behind as we got into line to get through security and bag check and then to finally make our way onto the plane. And that whole process surprisingly took about 2 3 hours. I slowly walked onto the plane still with a ton of nervousness and anxiety, filling up my thoughts with I can t do this or a I can definitely do this just not ready enough. I first sat down next to my sisters friend but then chose to sit next to my mom. I had to put my carry on in the overhead bin, but since I could barely reach to that point, someone was nice enough to help me in putting my luggage into that spot. I sat down and watched my other sister walk right by us with my nephew since their seat was way in the back. My mom turned and asked You ready? and I said no because I truly thought that I wasn t. She told me that I would be just fine and that s when I started to question if I was overreacting or not. The plane was starting to get ready to take off so my whole body ... There are many example of twisted logic, the most obvious would be how all the animals can talk, and the Cheshire Cat in particular can disappear and reappear at whim. Weekly service was held originally, every Saturday evening; later it was transferred to Wednesday, a practice which has been retained to this day at the Brahmamandir of Tagore s Shantiniketan. It consisted of three successive parts, viz. recitation of the Vedas by Telegu Brahmins in the closed apartment exclusively before the Brahmin members of the congregation, reading and exposition of the Upanishads for the general audience, and singing of religious hymns. This would correspond exactly to the reading of the Bible, the sermon and the hymns of Christian worship, and on this point Rammohun s previous Unitarian contacts had certainly been of considerable help by providing him with a model of congregational worship which was alien to the spirit of Hinduism. The parallelism however was confined exclusively to the outward form. The contents of Rammohun s universal worship were thoroughly Hindu in character. The reading of the vedas exclusively before the Brahmin participant does not apparently accord well with the universal and non sectarian ideals of the new church as set forth in its Trust Deed. But the only custodian of Vedic rituals in Calcutta at that moment was the orthodox Telegu Brahmin community and its members could not be persuaded to recite the Vedas before Brahmins and non Brahmins alike. • 48. Nineteenth-Century Exploration And On A Farther Shore The... Both in the books, The Humboldt Current: Nineteenth Century Exploration and the Roots of American Environmentalism and On a Farther Shore the Life and Legacy of Rachel Carson, the authors are trying to prove that the individuals whom they wrote about deserve a place in the ongoing narrative of Environmentalism. Alexander Von Humboldt and Rachel Carson showed how their subjects were led to a life of environmentalism by their passion. Whether it was from a love of the water or a love to explore, both of these individuals were led down a road of environmentalism. Although their accomplishments are completely different, it does not mean that one is more significant than the other. The fact that they had different results can easily be explained by the different times in which these two individuals were alive and active. Humboldt s journey did not begin until 1799, which was 108 years before Carson was even born. They had different passions, which led to different results, but in the end, they were both incredibly significant. Aaron Sachs (author of The Humboldt Current) does a great job of describing the incredibly interesting journeys that Humboldt had. From his trip to Venezuela to the United States, and everything in between, Sachs painted a picture of an explorer on a mission to study new land, to discover new things, and to develop ideas about these new areas and pass those ideas on to the rest of the world. Humboldt was more than an explorer, he was truly a scientist. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
