The Silent Partners And The Social Responsibility Model Of...
Novel Ideas silent partners have numerous concerns with public officials calling off layoffs
including the hindrance of economic performance, an increase in insolvency, and an inability to
maximize company profits.. We realize that the principal motive is to maximize profits. As
investors in our company, we understand why the silent partners tend to agree with the social
responsibility model of Milton Friedman. The silent partners, like Mr. Friedman, feel as if we
need to utilize our resources and engage in activities that diminish the economic volatility our
company is facing (Crawford, 9/20). A primary concern is to do whatever it takes to maintain the
company s solvency, while adhering and staying within any legal boundaries. Another concern the
silent partners may have is the social responsiveness strategy that the officials from the local
chamber of commerce and local economic development group want us to utilize. The local
organizations want us to avoid layoffs, so the community can maintain economic stability.
However, we know that the silent partners are concerned that if we do not fire one of the full
time employees, we will not be maximizing our profits, and again increasing the economic
volatility of our business. As the silent partners have mentioned, firing one of the full time
employees would not be of concern as we would save money, increase profits, and still maintain a
satisfactory level of customer service. However, many would categorize our strategy as

Symbolism in Animal Farm
Symbolism in Animal Farm Animal Farm is almost a direct parallel to Russia during the time of
World War I through World War II. The characters all have real life counterparts that are easily
seen. The events are also all real and conveyed in the novel in an easily understood way. The
novel creates a new way to look at the events that transpired during this time period and allows
people to really understand what happened. In Animal Farm, George Orwell employs many
symbols to convey the parallelism between the novel and World War I and World War II in Russia
.
The characters in Orwell s Animal Farm represent real people that played major roles in World
War I. Farmer Jones is the owner of the farm before the animal uprising. He represents... Show

Minimus represents artists who are used by totalitarian states for propaganda purposes ( Animal
Farm 7). The animal massacres that begin later in the novel, brought about by Napoleon and his
followers, signify the Moscow purge trials of the 1930 s. Napoleon and his crew bring in
animals one by one and interrogate them about whether they are helping Snowball come into
the farm at night and tear down the windmill. All those who are found guilty are murdered. The
windmill construction represents Stalin s five year plans for industrialization. The windmill
construction is constantly delayed and extended just like Stalin s five year plans. The plot of
Animal Farm is made of many events. There is the initial rebellion of the animals against Farmer
Jones. This rebellion begins the rest of the story and struggles that come along. The animals are
left having to figure out how to run the farm themselves while also keeping law and order. The
pigs, Napoleon and Snowball, step up as leaders and create the Seven Commandments which
start out as: 1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. 2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has
wings, is a friend. 3. No animal shall wear clothes. 4. No animal shall sleep in a bed. 5. No animal
shall drink alcohol. 6. No animal shall kill any other animal. 7. All animals are equal (Orwell 24).
Snowball s approach to freedom was an idea of complete equality; all the animals worked for their
share of the food. Napoleon

INTRODUCTION As we are aware, finance is the lifeblood of business or it can be said as the
most important part of all the business enterprises. To understand finance, you need to know the
entire business indeed. Finance can be used for various reasons like expanding the business,
investing and purchasing fixed assets like land and building, machinery so on. In order to
survive in this competitive world every organisation need to have a good strength of finance
available to their business or else they won t be able to survive in this world. Hence, it is very
important to select the correct sources of finance available to the company. Finance can be in two
types external sources or internal sources. TASK ONE 1. SOURCES OF FINANCE... Show more

This is a common method of financing a start up. The founder provides all the share capital of
the company, retaining 100% control over the business. The advantages of investing in share
capital are covered in the section on business structure. The key point to note here is that the
entrepreneur may be using a variety of personal sources to invest in the shares. Once the
investment has been made, it is the company that owns the money provided. The shareholder
obtains a return on this investment through dividends (payments out of profits) and/or the value
of the business when it is eventually sold. A start up company can also raise finance by selling
shares to external investors this is covered further below. 1.2 External sources * Loan capital
This can take several forms, but the most common are a bank loan or bank overdraft. A bank loan
provides a longer term kind of finance for a start up, with the bank stating the fixed period over
which the loan is provided (e.g. 5 years), the rate of interest and the timing and amount of
repayments. The bank will usually require that the start up provide some security for the loan,
although this security normally comes in the form of personal guarantees provided by the
entrepreneur. Bank loans are good for financing investment in

Essay On The Trail Of Tears
Along the Trail of Tears The Trail of Tears played a part in what is known as the Manifest
Destiny, which was the expansion of the colonists to the west. Gold was found on the Cherokee
land during the Georgia Gold Rush. The greed that it created was one of the leading causes of the
Trail of Tears where thousands of Native Americans were forcibly relocated from their native lands
(Cherokee.org). Little did the Native Americans realize that the new nation that was going to be
forming around them would affect not only their lives but the lives of their descendants. Even
though the Cherokee made efforts to keep their land through the court system and even attempted to
assimilate to the American way of life it was to no avail. They tried to agree to treaties with the
United States Government. Even though, they were eventually forced to leave their lands. By
forcing the Native Americans to abandon their homes, robbing their lands, taking their freedom, and
forcing them to adapt and to assimilate into a new land and culture showed how vindictive
President Andrew Jacksonwas regarding the Native Americans. The Trail of Tears
was an instance of
the United States Government committing genocide against the Native Americans
Until 1828, the federal government agreed that Cherokee had rights to their land, but when Andrew
Jackson was elected President, that all ended. Jackson refused to believe that the tribes were
sovereign and thus viewed Indian treaties, as an absurdity

Descriptive Essay About Snow White
Snow White. Casper. Why do these characters sound familiar to me? Well, these have been the
nicknames I have acquired through the years. I describe myself as bright white. I never realized
how white I was until people felt the dire need to tell me. As a young child, I never really
thought it was a super colossal deal either. But as we age, we learn new things that perhaps we
did not recognize before. People say that some things in life, you just never forget. This indeed is
very true. Words can scar. Several summers ago I was at a friend s house playing volleyball with
a few people. Does it bother you that you are so white? asked a girl who I did not even know. I
dropped the ball and stared at her with a blank expression. All that was running through my mind
was, Does it bother you that you are so obnoxious?
But of course this thought was not vocalized. I simply kept playing volleyball. But soon after I
established questions. Does it bother me? Should it bother me? I went home that day and glared at
myself in the mirror. Then it struck me, I was whiter than most people were. This one stranger s
comment made me question myself. I began to over analyze and as time passed by my self esteem
plummeted. I thought that maybe if I had been born with sun kissed skin, my family and friends
would not judge me. Then, I began wearing makeup to not look as sickly as people made me out to
be. I developed a sudden yearning to go down to the shore all the time to try to get some type of
color.
But then one day, I studied my mom s face. Her smooth, glowing, and porcelain skin made me
wonder. I was curious as how a woman at her age could look ten years younger. My mom shared
the specific ingredient to maintaining beautiful skin. She explained that staying out of the sun
was the key to wrinkle free skin as an adult. Hundreds of thoughts ran through my mind. She also
stated that as a teenager, she experienced all the same reactions. In fact, one crude person asked
if she had lived in a bomb shelter, meaning that it looked as if she never saw the sun. The irony of
it all was that these people with the so called society accepted complexions who told me to lay in
the sun, actually had imperfections on their skin from

The Book Of Proverbs By King Solomon
The book of Proverbs is a collection of proverbs, poems, and parables written by King Solomon
in efforts to teach wisdom to God s people. Although I would not deem myself to be an extremely
religious person, I believe I identify with with Proverbs the most because whether you are
religious or not this book of biblical wisdom teaches many moral lessons that can be applied for a
better life and connect with many contemporary issues. This is important on a grander scale as
well because as many people of my generation see the Bibleas something that should only be read
and applied to your life if you believe in God, but these verses reveal that they can used to teach
you how to live a good life in this day of age regardless of religious background by looking at the
Bible as a literary source instead of solely just a religious one.
One of the most common contemporary issues today is relationships. King Solomon touches on
the idea of finding the perfect significant other when he states, A wife of noble character who can
find? She is worth far more than rubies (New International Version, Proverbs 31:10). King
Solomon is saying that a woman of good honest character is more valuable than any material
object. You could have an influx of riches and a sexy model girlfriend, but what does it matter if
she is constantly cheating on you with other men and using you for your money. I closely identify
with this excerpt in particular because it applies to my generation s relationship

Film Analysis Of The Movie Kingsm The Secret Service
The movie Kingsman: The Secret Service is a thriller and action packed movie revolving around
Kingsman a spy agency which for decades has been in action undercover to save the mankind from
its enemies. The theme of the film revolves around the triumph of good over evil and how the good
side eventually wins, diminishing the evil. The movie evokes a feeling of thrill and anticipation
through the mise en scene it has to offer. Mise en scene is the information that the filmprovides
through the medium of vision. Mise en scene plays an important role in this movie as a lot of
visual effects are used in the film to show a technologically advanced world filled with high tech
gadgets, weapons, and systems.
The movie takes place in multiple locations be it Kentucky, London, Argentina or more. The
audiences are introduced to these locations before each scene through extremely long establishing
shots with the name of the geographical location appearing on the side. As most of the scenes are
taking place indoors this introduction of the geographical location provides an in depth of the
diegesis to the audiences. It also helps in the creation of space as closed indoor spaces cannot
convey their locations according to the need of the story, whether they are actually shot there or
not. The movie starts off with a fight sequence in the Middle East, making the subject of the film
clear and thus preparing them for the violence that is yet to come. The movie has two crucial

In the letters at the beginning of the novel, it s stated that a Robert Walton, an explorer, is sailing in
the Arctic Ocean and eventually stumbles upon an injured Victor Frankenstein. In the letters,
Walton is retelling what Frankenstein had told him about his story. Frankenstein was at birth a
Genevese, belonging to distinguished family. As a child, he enjoyed learning things and he was
quick to learn new subjects which explains why he had a profound love for science. Later his
mother, Caroline Beaufort, adopts a girl named Elizabeth Lavenza who she gives to Frankenstein

was about to leave to university, his mother and Elizabeth develop the scarlett fever, his mother

dead. He uses a mixture of different science to achieve this twisted goal of his. He isolates himself

Carol Ann Duffy s Revision of Masculinist Representations...
Carol Ann Duffy s Revision of Masculinist Representations of Female Identity
Carol Ann Duffy is one of the freshest and bravest talents to emerge in British poetry any poetry
for years , writes Eavan Boland (Duffy, 1994, cover). This courage is manifest in Duffy s ability
and desire to revise masculinist representations of female identity and her engagement with
feminine discourse, a concept which, as Sara Mills points out: has moved away from viewing
women as simply an oppressed group, as victims of male domination, and has tried to formulate
ways of analysing power as it manifests itself and as it is resisted in the relations of everyday life.
(p.78)
It is these aspects of Duffy s work that I wish to address here by examining ... Show more content

Ian Gregson comments on this when he states that:
Duffy explores how masculinist ways of seeing determine how women are regarded, even by
themselves, and how language determines the experiences it is supposed merely to describe, how
representation makes dummies of us all. (p.101)
This notion of female identity as a constructed in masculine discourse but accepted by all, is a
recurring theme in Duffy s poetry. She stereotypes many of her characters in order to foreground
their incongruous place within a modern society. She also highlights the inadequacies of language
as a form of expression in the Lacanian sense that no meaning is sustained by anything other than
reference to another meaning (Lacan, p.83). Language, therefore, is an unreliable form of
expression and, as such, is deconstructed by Duffy through the use of dramatic monologues to
represent speech rather than written forms, and by her juxtaposition of seemingly random nouns
and adjectival phrases and her use of compound words. Language is used to create a tension
throughout her work, particularly in her insistence on foregrounding the construction of the poem
itself.
This tension is demonstrated in Recognition , from Selling Manhattan (1987), where Duffy
explores the fabrication of female identity and the inability of language to re present that identity by
employing a dramatic monologue voiced by a despondent housewife:
[...] I love him, through habit, but the proof has

Proposal for Field Investigation:
Assessment of Permits for water Extraction Establishment of Managed Aquifer recover (MAR)
System
1. Introduction 2.1. Managed Aquifer Recovery Systems
As reported by the South Australian local government of Charles Sturt (2012), Aquifer Storage and
Recovery (ASR) or Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) is essentially the deliberate storage of
surface water (i.e. in the form of stormwater, treated effluent etc) within aquifers. This process is
used where water is pumped into aquifers for future usage. Furthermore, MAR systems avoid the
need for expensive above ground water tanks, or reservoirs which are subject to significant water
evaporation (Charles Sturt, 2012).
As reported by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also proposed to locate an MAR 2km from the coast roughly in the middle of the study area.
This MAR will inject tertiary treated sewage water into all three aquifers to prevent salinity
intrusion that is occurring in that vicinity.
As discussed above, we have an initial water balance from a previous study of the Study Area, and
we have some new parameters to enter into our assessment, namely the proposal to extract 2 ML/d
from the reservoir, and 5 ML/d from the river.
We must also note that the proposed MAR does not specify how much water would be injected, and
the proposed permits assessed below do not stipulate the quality of water required. If the permits
below require high quality water, (i.e. better than tertiary treated effluent), the following assessment
may be inaccurate.
3.4. Water Balance Reservoir
The initial water balance suggests that the water balance for the reservoir (i.e. the net change in
water in storage) was 10450 ML / Year, and one of the proposed industrial plants is seeking a permit
to extract 1825 ML / Year from the reservoir.
We can see that the figures above are yield a decrease in the net change in water volume in storage
in the reservoir, however there is still a significant amount of water in the reservoir throughout the
year (8625

Reconstruction African American Reconstruction
American Reconstruction began in 1865 at the end of the civil war. The period s main focus was to
rebuild the country after war by enacting and changing many key pieces of legislature in the
American government. One divisive factor that needed to be addressed was how much
representation African Americans deserved in America. During the reconstruction period, African
American rights were extended through various new amendments and working opportunities,
however, these rights did not last long as they were undermined by black codes and sharecropping.
In 1865, the American government successfully passed the thirteenth amendment: ending the
institution of slavery in America. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a
punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the
United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. The thirteenth amendment opened up
economic opportunity for African Americans as slaves were no longer owned by someone else.
However, not long after the thirteenth amendment was passed, former slaveholders and
southerners created the black codes. Black Codes were a set of laws intended to restrict African
American freedoms, causing them to go into low wage labor. A black code passed in the state of
South Carolina stated, To do farm work, a black in South Carolina had to have a written contract,
attested to by white witnesses; failure to obtain one before commencing to work was a misdemeanor

The accessibility of modern technology in the lives of the public advocates the immoderate
consumption of screen time. Within the past century, America s development of futuristic
technologies has surpassed expectations. The tools available today are often looked upon as a

are submerged in the influx of technological devices, the ability to restrain from them is mitigated.
People prominently enjoy using electronics, specifically television and computers, due to the

When the television is always on, simply sitting down for a twenty minute program can lead to a
night spent on the couch. However, televisions are not the only culprits contributing to the issue.
The accessibility found in cell phones and computers is beyond extraordinary. The knowledge of
the world can be obtained with a click of a button or a tap of a finger. The introduction of the
internet has revolutionized the way of life for better or for worse. Rather than reading newspapers
and books to retrieve information, people resort to the internet for their means. This is entirely
justifiable, considering the drastic variation in the time required to access information on each
platform. However, smart phones and computers have become the primary way to communicate
and interact with the outside world due to their simplicity and agility. The convenience of modern
technology is partially responsible for America s obsession with screens.
In times of boredom, people often turn to electronics to satisfy their hunger for entertainment.
Society has made it acceptable to rely on television and social media for amusement during free
time rather than participating in more traditional forms of time pass. Reading books and
newspapers has become a burden now that information can so easily be found in the technology
that is becoming more and more accessible. Even children often prefer television to books and toys.

The Negative Effects Of Social Media On Body Image
Approximately 80% of U.S. women don t like how they look. The number of women who feel
confident in their body is dwindling quickly and is being fueled by edited pictures they are
comparing themselves to on social media. In the article How Social Media Is a Toxic Mirror by
Rachel Simmons in Time magazine she tells of the risk for everyone to feel selfconscious about
their bodies. However, those most at risk are teenage girls who spend a significant amount of
time on any form of social media. In response to the article, I agree with the information about
body confidence and its negative effects on body image of teenage girls. I also discuss how logos
and pathos strengthen the article and what would make it a stronger and more credible source for
information on teen body image.
In the beginning of the article, the author shows a progression of teenage girls comparing their
bodies to those they see in movies and magazines for the previous generation to social media for
millennials. The ever evolving social media is constantly allowing for the opportunities to
compare themselves to unrealistic versions of the human figure. A world where there are
hundreds of apps that can airbrush everything from waist lines to teeth, teenage girls are having a
harder and harder time separating the ways their body should look and the way media thinks they
should look. The article expresses concern for the rate of which sources of comparisons for teenage
girls bodies are multiplying.

Pros And Cons Of Ration Books And The Rationing System
Ration books With the onset of WWII, the United States needed a system to savor their supplies,
so the government put in place the rationing system. They used ration books to get supplies like
meat and sugar from grocery stores, a ration book was kind of like a coupon book, you couldn t
buy a rationed item without having a ration stampfor that item (National WWII museum).
So it s like a mix of a coupon book, and a you have permission to buy this item stamp. But nothing
is perfect, not even the ration books, so here are some cons the ration books the rationing system
spawned. First, that the ration system/books spawned that was illegal was the black market,
since you could only buy something if you had a rationing stamp from a grocery store, people
sometimes needed more than they had, so the black market allowed people to buy rationed
items for a higher price, and they didn t need the ration stamp for that item (United States
History). One aspect of the rationing system was that the food wasn t very fresh, so if people
wanted some fresh vegetables they had to make their own gardens (victory gardens) and once
they did that their family could enjoy fresh food for a few months while the garden was still alive,
many people did this, there were approximately 20 million victory gardens (20,000,000) (United
States History). In addition, if you had a ration stamp for an item, it wasn t guaranteed that the store
had the item that you needed because there were a lot of

Prostitution as a Form of Deviance Essay examples
Prostitution as a Form of Deviance In sociology, the term deviance refers to all violations of
social rules, regardless of their seriousness (Essentials of Sociology 136). Deviance is an
individual or organizational behavior that violates societal norms and is usually accompanied by
negative reactions from others. According to a sociologist S. Becker, he stated that it is not the act
itself that makes an action deviant, but rather how society reacts to it. A particular state of being
that has been labeled as being deviant in the U.S. is prostitution. Prostitution is the direct selling of
sexual acts for financial gains. In some form or other, prostitution has been recognized throughout
history and all over the world. There... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Dr. Marshall B. Clinard of the University of Wisconsin, prostitution is opposed for
five reasons. First, the degradation of women is involved. Second, the threat to public health
because of transmission of venereal disease. Third, the effect on general law enforcement through
police protection that includes protection of prostitutes who steal from their patrons and use
narcotics. Fourth, the effect on marital relations where recourse is had to prostitutes. Finally, the
patronage of prostitutes by young persons, soldiers in particular, and its effect on national values
(Sexual Deviation in American Society 168). Deviance is relative, which means that what is
considered deviant to one society is not to others. Nowadays, prostitution is regarded as an evil in
virtually all societies; but in most societies, it is regarded as an evil that cannot be eliminated. On
the other hand, in ancient civilizations, prostitution was not condemned as evil. It was considered
sacred by some religious sects. In primitive societies among African peoples, certain women were
available in the market place at the end of the normal trading hours for commercialized sex. Other
African tribes used prostitutes in some instances as a part of a religious ceremony to initiate the
young men of the village to sexual intercourse. Another example is the Anglo Saxon society. Five
hundred years ago this society had a custom to lend

Disability Reflection
Prior to the course, Perspectives on disability, my understanding of disability was a fundamental,
concept of disability, in which I knew it existed, and also have seen and interacted with people
considered to have a disability. I never took a deep look at all the social and political factors that
exist within the spectrum of disability. This course has allowed me to examine all aspects of
disability, which has changed my view and approach of what a disability is and how it is
viewed. Historically, disability has been viewed fundamentally as a persoal tragedy, which has
resulted in diasbled people being seen as objects of pity or in need of charity. They have been
subject to descriminatory policies and practices in which the predominant images of passivity
and helplesness reinforced their inferior status (Barton 4). Uncovering the framework of
disability, by studying the historical, soicial political and educational standpoint, I see the
intricacies in which gives me a greater understanding and awareness of the topic. In a me driven
society we often don t take the time, to look at life through a different lens other than what you
may personally experience on a daily basis. In striving for a more perfect society we must be
able to do just that, try to see life from other people s perspectives, to try to envision what life
might be like for people who face an onslaught of racism, sexism, all the isms you can think of. in
a societal construct in, which is designed for a few. People with disabilities are constantly being
discriminated upon even though there a law in place, in attempts to bring equality for all.
Eventhough I believe it s necessary to be cognizant of other peoples experiences, and not
judging people from the surface. In the same light people with disabilities don t often view
themselves as being disabled. For eample many disabled people do not consider their disability a
flaw or personal deficit with good reason. They are comfortable with who they are, and they do
not wish to be fixed or cured (Disablity Theory4). Through this course study, including course
readings and classroom discussions, has allowed me to view disability with a whole new scope and
perspectives. It may sound

If you are like me you do a search on your favorite search engine for the solution to the problem.
This article gives you some simple fixes to common problems computer users run into online.
Problem #1 One problem I run into often is that my computerwill occasionally start to run really
slow. There are many reasons this may occur including a hard disk drivewhich is running short on
available disk space, bad files left from software programs that have been installed or uninstalled,
corrupt data, missing Windows updates or outdated drivers, a computer that is overheating
because of a problem with the fan, corrupt OS, or simply bad Hardware. The solution to a slow
running computer is based on which of the above reasons can be attributed to the problem. To
free up hard disk drive space you can take a few steps to free up space. You should have between
200 and 500MB of free hard disk drive space on your computer to accommodate swap files and
temporary files. To free up space run Disk Cleanup , uninstall old programs or games that you no
longer use. If you are running Windows XP or Vista you can disable System Restore, disable
hibernation or delete temporary files. Running Scandisk can insure that there is nothing physically
wrong with the hard disk drive and running Defrag will make sure that the data is arranged in the

The Effects Of Food Safety On The Food Industry
Researching Business
RESEARCH DISCUSSION PAPER
INTRODUCTION
As Jamaica s food supply becomes more dynamic and diverse, government policies aimed at
preventing contamination and illness have become more important to consumers. Compliance with
food safety regulations are becoming very important as consumers become more aware of the
dangers associated with consuming contaminated food. Improperly trained employees, substandard
products, or poor service as well as non compliance to food safety laws and regulations can cost
companies millions of dollars and damages to their reputations. While the food operator must
focus on customer safety, concern must also be directed toward the avoidance of non compliance
towards regulatory standards; as such negative outcomes can be very costly and may also result in
sickness or lost of lives.
The board topic of this research is risk management in the food industry. The aim is to investigate
regulatory compliance by focusing on the management of risk in the fast food business in Kingston,
Jamaica.
The methodology to be undertaken is a combination of predominantly qualitative with a mix of
descriptive statistics. The data will be collected by using questionnaires and interviews with
government regulatory agencies, fast food outlets and other stakeholders. The primary outcome of
the study is to highlight the actions necessary to provide the public with safe food through
compliance with government regulations by the management of

Massacre during the Indian Mutiny . The first is of the Massacre of English women and

Both are from Charles Ball s The History of the Indian Mutiny which was first published in 1860,

Preserving Sea Turtles in United States Essay
Preserving Sea Turtles in United States
Sea turtles, which have been around for millions of years, are on the brink of extinction. In many
countries, people consider their meat and eggs as prized delicacies. Often times they are just killed
for their beautiful shell. However, the leading cause of sea turtle death in the US can be attributed to
shrimp fishermen and the nets they use to catch shrimp (1). Each year, thousands of sea turtles are
carelessly killed even though there are measures which can be taken to avoid this catastrophe.
With proper usage of a device called the Turtle Excluder Device (TED), shrimp fishermen could
reduce sea turtle deaths in their nets by 97% (5) thereby increasing the likelihood for survival of

Feminism Is The Belief Of Political, Economic And Social...
Feminism by: Laura CapellГЎn
Feminism is the belief in political, economic and social equality of the sexes and is one of the
leading conflicts in today s society. In the past years, women had faced many battles to fight and

given to them by men. I believe that every person is entitled to have equal opportunities in this
world. Feminism has proven to slowly accomplishing this. Even if it meant hurting the people that

For example a new woman was born , which I believe is huge part of the feminists movements,

down by a man.

Dance movement therapy can be beneficial to those who participate in it as there are many
different physical, emotional, mental advantages. In an experiment conducted by Mehibe

referred to as simply dance, has a positive impact on the mental maturation of youth enduring
depression at a low degree. This is important because many teens in today s world suffer or have

there is more to dance than just what meets the eye. Furthermore, the authors even recommend
dance to young people that struggle with depression, if it is not very severe. Dance can have a
major positive effect on depression as well.
Dance is not limited to resolving depression, however. According to Anna E. Olvera, dance can be
an outlet for emotional articulation, stress decrease, and creativity. Olvera conducted a literature
review to provide evidence for why dance is a good form of exercise, and claims that dancing is a
much better and more beneficial form of physical activity for numerous adolescent girls, as

Bertrand Russell Rhetorical Analysis
Bertrand Russell argues that we should worship our good instinct, moral insights rather than
worshiping the evil god. He says we should create our own ideals and worship them. Russell
explains that worshiping our ideals gives us true freedom. As he says, in determination to worship
only the god created by our own love of the good, to respect only the heaven which inspires the
insight of our best moments (pg.51). I disagree with Russell s argument because worshiping our
insights does not reflect reality. Our personal ideals are not realistic. This paper will examine
Russell s arguments of his position of worshipping our good instincts rather than the universal
power through his idea of freedom, human virtue and by turning indignation to resignation. The
second part of this paper will critically analyze Russell s position.
Bertrand Russell is concerned with people, whom he calls savages worshipping the universal
power. These savages respect the power more than themselves because they find the power greater
than anything they see in themselves. Their thoughts and beliefs are of those the power devours.
Russell suggests that we should question whether the universal power deserves this respect. Russell
concludes that we must follow our very own good instinct, which will bring us true freedom rather
than the universal evil power. As he says, the vision of beauty is possible only to unfettered
contemplation, to thoughts not weighted by the load of eager wishes (pg.52).

U.s. And Global Economy
In 2008 the U.S. and global economy confronted one of the worst crisis in the history. These
financial crisis were considered the worst since the great depression in 1930 s. Several events
took a place early in 2007 which led to the economy crash, such as, the massive decrease in home
prices in the United States after it was significantly high. This decline in home mortgagemarket
expanded rapidly causing massive crisis in the whole United States financial sector (Bullard,
Neely, and Wheelock 2 4). Those crisis had dangerous effects on the stock banking industry,
insurance firms, and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two most important enterprises
commissioned by the government to assist mortgage lending, and some other mortgage lenders
and financial service organizations. Those crisis generated a decline in banks and financial

massive decline in the home mortgage market and the whole financial sector of the United States

Marcus Aurelius Philosophy is Unique
Philosophy usually makes people think of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle and/ or a class that looks
to view life and various subjects in a different way (Maybe use multiple perspectives in philosophy
there are always more than one way to look at things). With this being said, everyone s point of
view is unique and Marcus Aureliusis no exception. (I would use his name here just to make sure
the audience knows who you re talking aboutпѓ He was a philosopher, though a not widely known
(Word choice?), and I believe that he has a lot to teach us despite the fact that we live in a
different era (After and make this into a new sentence or combine how you think he is brilliant
despite not many people knowing who he is.). This is because the overall concepts and themes
found in his meditationscome into play in our lives. Reading the introduction to The Essential
Marcus Aurelius was helpful in that it set the mood for the book (PUT BOOKS TITLE) and
gives the readers a quick overview of Aurelius era. It also has a brief biography of Aurelius life
to give the readers insight into who he was and what his life was like. Personally, it made me
excited to read the book because I was in the frame of mind that the author states will bring out
the most this book can offer (Needleman, xi). My life has felt like it has been out of control and
just an (Maybe instead of just an put leaving me with an overall dissatisfaction feeling with my
life.) overall dissatisfaction with my life.

The Pledge Of Allegiance And Star Spangled Banner
The Pledge of Allegiance and Star Spangled Banner are examples of compulsive patriotism in
America that not everyone can see. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangled Banner are
orthodoxes Americans have recited for many years since they were created during the 1800 s.
The Pledge of Allegiance was practiced everyday in the beginning of class, starting at
kindergarten, having all the students and teachers participate. I do not call to mind ever
learning about what the pledge signified or meant. Never did I ask myself why we said this
pledge of allegiance every single day, it was just a mandatory order of each day. The Star
Spangled Banner is the national anthem that is recited before sporting events and official
government procedures. Both are traditions in America that show pride for their country, it s
freedom, and history. Since the Pledge of Allegiance was something that was recited every
single school morning, it did not have much importance to me and just became a school routine,
you stand up, place your hand on your heart, say the words, and sit down. Even at one point it
became annoying to me because it was something that was sort of being forced. If you were to
not fully participate you would be scolded by the teacher or given a look. Now that I am older I
have learned more about what it means and understand that it has an emotional meaning to some
Americans. The Pledge of Allegiance is a patriotic vow to the United Statesto remain loyal and
obedient to the country that offers freedom and justice for all. But why do young kids have to
say the Pledge of Allegiance? I believe students should be taught the history behind the pledge
and what every line in it means and denotes. In addition, the students should be at a more mature
age before having to make this promise. Rosenbaum said The America I feel allegiance to isn t
the America that requires compulsory displays of loyalty (Rosenbaum, 56). I agree with what he
said because America is supposedly the land of the free but those free who do not participate are
frowned upon and called un american or unpatriotic. I have even seen people being told to leave the
country for having different opinions and beliefs. Rosenbaum actually compared

Key Success Factors for a Commercial Bank in Dar Es Salaam.
2.0Key Success factors for a Commercial Bank in Dar es Salaam.
2.1Branch network
One of the most important factors that commercial bank must possess to be successful in Dar es
Salaam is branch network. Branches are the distribution channels for the bank services and a well
spread network of branches provide the bank with ability to reach the mass population of the Dar es
Salaam city. As important as the number of branches is the location of these branches. Those banks
that have managed to identify the right location and managed to put a branch on those locations
have proved to be taking the most advantage of the market than those with fewer non strategically
placed branches. As an example, branches located at Mlimani City, Central... Show more content

2.6Public relations and marketing strength
As a resident in Dar es Salaam you must have come a cross NBC s Mobile Clinic, CRDB s
Student Business and daily on TV, Radio, Newspaper you hear so and so bank has donated
desks to a school, mattresses to hospitals e.t.c. You walk or drive around the city you will see big
Billboards with appealing advertisements by banks either trying to convince you to use their
services or just reminding you of them, lotteries to win overseas trips just from opening an
account. All these are massive efforts by banks to Market themselves as well as trying to maintain
good relations with the public. For a bank to be successful one of the key factors it must pay
attention to and strategically plan for is Marketing and Public Relations.
2.7ICT infrastructure
We have mention Branch and ATM network, Customer Service and Innovation as one of the key
success factors for a bank, but all these will be unfruitful if there is no proper ICT platform to
support them. To be able to take full advantage of the opportunities in the market and combat
threats a bank must have an up to date strategically planned and implemented ICT infrastructure. In
2010 CRDB and NBC made entire bank systems upgrades, announcements were made on Radio,
TV, Newspapers of the changes and their implication to the services offered. This is an example of
organizations that have

What Are The Struggles Of The Older Generation
Words and stories can connect generations through understanding of the struggles of the opposite
generation, and they can resolve conflicts between people. In Thank You M am by Langston
Hughes, a teenage boy attempts to steal the purse of an elderly woman by the name of Mrs.
Jones. He is unsuccessful, and Mrs. Jones takes the boy home where they have a conversation,
although Mrs. Jones does most of the talking. Eventually, the Mrs. Jones reveals to the boy that
she too once resorted to less than honest measures to get something she wanted, creating a
connection between her and the boy that allowed her to instill in him a sense of honor and
respect, as the text says, The woman did not watch the boy to see if he was going to run now, nor did

Also, those of older generations have lived much longer than younger generations, and have
experienced much more, so they have gathered an ample amount of wisdom and valuable life
lessons they can share with the younger generation. This is evident in Thank You M am when
Mrs. Jones teaches the thief that she once resorted to crime as well, but that there is always a
better option, helping him to turn away from crime to accomplish his goals. It can be hard for
different generations to communicate because of differing perspectives caused by drastically
different cultures and ways of life between generations. For example, my father is very stubborn
and retains many beliefs about how a family should be run based on how he was raised, which
makes it very hard to negotiate and communicate with him about the issues of my generation.
Another example of this is Mr. Brown in Cub Pilot on the Mississippi. He doesn t communicate
very well with those of a different generation, treats them poorly, and hardly listens to them at all, as
evidenced by his treatment of Mr. Twain throughout the

Hazing And Sororities
In August of this year, hundreds of thousands of 18 year old young men and women begin their
college careers. These students have nothing but hope and optimism as they start to venture out on
their own. As they start to meet new people, experience life on their own, and engage in a rigorous
curriculum, many students find themselves looking for a social outlet. NCAA sports, club sports,
church group, business club, architecture club, honors society, African American youth group,
Hispanic youth group and thousands of other social/professional clubs surround campus to help
students flourish in their new home. These social outlets allow for students to meet people with
similar interests and aspirations, but they also challenge students to try new... Show more content on

The techniques that are used by all fraternities and sororities are called rushing and hazing. Rushing
is the act of popularizing a given fraternity or sorority to attract new members. As mentioned in
the introduction, the alternate forms of rushing cover a large spectrum, but they all have the
same goal: be the best to attract the best. Hazing is another variable method closely aligned with
fraternities and sororities, but hazing for different fraternities and sororities can have vastly
different outcomes. Hazing, in its most simple and basic form, is the imposition of strenuous or
complicated tasks as a form of initiation. In contrast to popular belief, a lot of normal activity is
considered hazing. For example, a college football team might tell the freshman that they are
responsible for cleaning up loose garbage on the field after a practice. As mild as this example
might be, hazing can be taken to an extreme and often has poor outcomes that can severely
damage the psyche of an individual. However, a sense of tradition and continuation continually
inspires hazing among social groups, but fraternities and sororities especially. Hazing has become
a form a bonding that allow new initiates to become closer as a brotherhood or sisterhood; these
two both being the most important part of fraternities and sororities. To create an everlasting bond,
Greek organizations promote ultimate a familial intimacy that is unparalleled by other social
groups. It is in this strive for brotherhood and sisterhood that mistakes are made and people begin to

The Matrix, By The Wachowski Brothers
Art has always been, and always will be, our most instinctual way of producing visual adaptions
of our inner fantasies. Imaginings that are based on what is real, but appear to belong to another
place entirely. One of the most engaging of art forms in which we do this, is film. Its ability to
recreate the impossibilities of our imagination, in a way that is realistic and believable, is one that
is hard to replace within the genres of science fiction and fantasy. A classic example of such a film
is The Matrixa science fiction masterpiece directed by The Wachowski Brothers. Released in 1999,
the film has an extreme amount of depth not only in its storyline, but in its innovative use of visual
effects and camerawork. Therefore in this essay I have decided to critically examine the underlying
thematic content of The Matrix , and the way in which the use of visual effects and cinematography
contributed to the execution of its intricate dystopian narrative, and the themes present within it.
Advances in technology have allowed filmmakers to produce more and more works based within
the setting of fantasy and reality, coexisting with each other. And often, as it is in The Matrix ,
reflecting back on each other. One of the themes within The Matrix that relates to this element, is
this idea of the blurring lines between what is man and what is machine . The film clearly presents
humans and machines on opposing sides of an ongoing battle for life, yet throughout the film we are

Types Of Toothpaste And Their Ability
The focus of this experiment was to test two different types of toothpaste and their ability to inhibit
growth of two different types of bacteria. Both toothpastes have the same active ingredients but
both have some similar and some dissimilar inactive ingredients. The active ingredient in both
Crest Deep Clean Complete and Tom s Whole Care is 0.24% sodium fluoride. In 1940 Procter
Gamble the founders of Crest toothpastehad to come up with a plan to reduce the number of
Americans with tooth decay. So they began to research beneficial ingredients to add to their
toothpaste. In the 1940s, Americans were estimated to have over 700 million cavities a year,

There are six pathotypes for Escherichia coli Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC)Enteropathogenic E.

Verocytotoxin producing E. coli (VTEC) or Enterohemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC). The (VTEC)
pathotype is the heavily focused in the news and is most related to foodborne illnesses, and can
even lead to pretty sizable outbreaks.
So, if both Crest and Tom s both have the same active ingredients, this experiment will test which of
the inactive ingredients have more antibacterial capabilities. This experiment won t tell us what
specific ingredient is responsible for the added prevention of bacteria, but it will show what
toothpaste better prevents Bacillus subtilis, and Escherichia coli. Crest has 22 ingredients and Toms
has just 10, the experiment must narrow down some of the variables. To achieve this researching
some of the other inactive ingredients is necessary to know if one of the toothpastes inhibits the
bacterial growth better on either Bacillus subtilis or Escherichia coli. While Crest has many more
ingredients than Toms, they both have fluoride, which is the most important ingredient in
strengthening teeth, as well as preventing bacterial growth. The experiment will need to narrow
down to the dissimilar ingredients in each type of toothpaste and assume the similar ingredients

A typical scenario begins with the DEO performing surveillance operations an assigned area of

He/She will query various data bases, attempting to determine the aircraft s identification. If the
aircraft is squawking, the DEO can query the flight plan (if available), as well as track the aircraft
s route of flight back to its origin, if possible. If the target detected is not squawking, cannot be
identified, or has been determined to be a questionable flight through the normal sorting process, the
DEO will continue tracking the aircraft until it reaches its destination. The DEO will contact the Air
Traffic Control Tower or the airports Fixed Base Operations to determine the aircraft ID. If ATC or
the FBO can identify the aircraft, AMOC databases may provide amplifying information for the
aircraft registration (tail) number. Other methods of checking flight plans involve contacting a
Flight Service Station, an Approach Control or ARTCC, CBP Officers at an APOE, or the Air

crossing the land or sea border and not heading towards an APOE or the pilot not talking to ATC,

The Wealth and Succes of William Vanderbilt Essay
William Vanderbilt was an American businessman whose wealth was derived from the thriving
railroad industry of the late nineteenth century. He was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey in
1821 and died at age 64 on December 8, 1885. During this time, he led the Lake Shore and
Michigan Southern Railway, the Canada Southern Railway, and the Michigan Central Railroad. He
took over as president for these organizations for his father. His father, Cornelius Vanderbilt,
brought the railroad business to his family. Upon his death, William Vanderbilt was the richest man

that swept America years ago, and only remained to expand and grow with the... Show more content

The rails are the single and greatest contributor to his vast fortune, and he saw it as one well
deserved by his family and himself. The wealth should not be stripped from his good hands, as
he saw it, especially considering his notable contributions to charity and the national economy all
around. Vanderbilt expressed the utmost confidence in his own people and his own company. In
fact, he stated in that same interview, I don t take any stock in this silly nonsense about working
for anybody but our own. The idea of the federal government acquiring the railroads would not
appeal to this attitude nor would it find support in any region of his company. This support your
own type of attitude is one that carries well among those who are involved, thus the effort to
acquiesce the railroads from Vanderbilt and his people would no doubt be faced with adversity.
Finally, the idea of establishing a national welfare system for all citizens who fall below a
congressionally defined poverty line would most likely not be supported by Vanderbilt. Logic
dictates that those who have money, tend to try and keep it when it comes to fiscal policy. For the
same reasons that wealthy conservatives of todays republican party oppose the institution of
national healthcare which raises taxation on the upper one

volumes on topics only he really enjoyed. Edward Taylor was born near the lovely town of
Leicestershire, England and he was a very educated individual, and believe it or not but this man
was a Puritan. His theology was a bear resemblance to that of his Boston contemporary Michael
Wigglesworth rather than Solomon Stoddard, a minister at Northampton. Taylor was a strict
Congregationalist, he opposed the Plan of Union between Congregational and Presbyterian
churches. Little do we know of Taylor s early life, the date and exact place of his birth are
uncertain, he did leave England only because he felt unable to hew to the Act of Uniformity. When
he left England he went to America in 1668 where he chased the career path of becoming a

Sign For My Father Who Stressed The Bunt Summary
In David Bottoms Sign for My Father, Who Stressed the Bunt, the speaker uses flexible diction and
metaphor to illuminate the sacrifice his father made for him. He continues the metaphor into the
present to show that he has finally understood this sacrifice. First the speaker emphasizes the
importance of baseball, highlighting the time and sacrifice his father made for him, an
unappreciative son. Towards the end of the poem the speakershows that he has realized his mistake,
and creates a metaphor that describes their relationship.
Through his use of diction, the speaker highlights the importance of baseball and shows the
painstaking care his father puts into teaching him about it. He describes the field on which he
practiced with his father as a rough diamond. Although this description is part of everyday
baseball vocabulary, rough diamond call to mind the phrase diamond in the rough. Thus, this
flexible diction adds a certain unnoticed value to both his father and the field. The speaker also
bestows a certain importance on baseball with a phrase full of double meaning: the whole
tiresome pitch. While the speaker is referring to his father s explanation of baseball basics, there is
a clear secondary meaning that refers to a physical pitch in baseball. Once again the speaker
connects baseball to something greater than itself through his diction ‒this time it is a father s
advice to his son. By repeatedly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Philosophical Statement Of Inclusion
My Philosophical Statement of Inclusion
The notion of inclusion is progressively being accepted as a vital method of learning in our growing
school systems. I believe that every student, those with and without exceptionalities, have the right
to be included in a general education classroom. Students with learning, social and behavioral
exceptionalities or varied abilities deserve the right to be provided with the same opportunities as
any other students in the regular general education classroom. The information that I have acquired
through my own experiences (in my observations and my classes) have molded my goals as a
future teacher. I believe that teaching and education are fundamental in getting students to grow,
learn, and flourish; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both children with and without exceptionalities learn with and from each other. Also, since both
children with and without exceptionalities are expected to learn to write, read, and do math; higher
expectations can be set and with good instruction children with exceptionalities can excel in these
academic skills.
I also believe that a key element of inclusion is maintaining a close relationship between me and the
special education teachers and paraprofessionals that I will be working with. If it is at all possible
to work together in one classroom, I believe that this will benefit all my students.
I hope to embrace all parts of every student and include all different types of learners as I create
my future classroom. As future and hopeful elementary education teacher I want to give every child
the opportunity to be a part of my classroom.
A Plan to Identify Social, Emotional, and Academic needs
The first part in having a successful inclusive classroom is to identify the social, emotional and
academic needs of all students and meet them. The first thing I would do is to review the student
file to see what has been done or not done in the past. This will give any indication if past needs
or behaviors have been identified or if they have just started. Collecting data will be important here
because I will need a complete and clear picture of students strengths and challenges, so that

  • 3. The Silent Partners And The Social Responsibility Model Of... Novel Ideas silent partners have numerous concerns with public officials calling off layoffs including the hindrance of economic performance, an increase in insolvency, and an inability to maximize company profits.. We realize that the principal motive is to maximize profits. As investors in our company, we understand why the silent partners tend to agree with the social responsibility model of Milton Friedman. The silent partners, like Mr. Friedman, feel as if we need to utilize our resources and engage in activities that diminish the economic volatility our company is facing (Crawford, 9/20). A primary concern is to do whatever it takes to maintain the company s solvency, while adhering and staying within any legal boundaries. Another concern the silent partners may have is the social responsiveness strategy that the officials from the local chamber of commerce and local economic development group want us to utilize. The local organizations want us to avoid layoffs, so the community can maintain economic stability. However, we know that the silent partners are concerned that if we do not fire one of the full time employees, we will not be maximizing our profits, and again increasing the economic volatility of our business. As the silent partners have mentioned, firing one of the full time employees would not be of concern as we would save money, increase profits, and still maintain a satisfactory level of customer service. However, many would categorize our strategy as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Symbolism in Animal Farm Symbolism in Animal Farm Animal Farm is almost a direct parallel to Russia during the time of World War I through World War II. The characters all have real life counterparts that are easily seen. The events are also all real and conveyed in the novel in an easily understood way. The novel creates a new way to look at the events that transpired during this time period and allows people to really understand what happened. In Animal Farm, George Orwell employs many symbols to convey the parallelism between the novel and World War I and World War II in Russia . The characters in Orwell s Animal Farm represent real people that played major roles in World War I. Farmer Jones is the owner of the farm before the animal uprising. He represents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Minimus represents artists who are used by totalitarian states for propaganda purposes ( Animal Farm 7). The animal massacres that begin later in the novel, brought about by Napoleon and his followers, signify the Moscow purge trials of the 1930 s. Napoleon and his crew bring in animals one by one and interrogate them about whether they are helping Snowball come into the farm at night and tear down the windmill. All those who are found guilty are murdered. The windmill construction represents Stalin s five year plans for industrialization. The windmill construction is constantly delayed and extended just like Stalin s five year plans. The plot of Animal Farm is made of many events. There is the initial rebellion of the animals against Farmer Jones. This rebellion begins the rest of the story and struggles that come along. The animals are left having to figure out how to run the farm themselves while also keeping law and order. The pigs, Napoleon and Snowball, step up as leaders and create the Seven Commandments which start out as: 1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. 2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend. 3. No animal shall wear clothes. 4. No animal shall sleep in a bed. 5. No animal shall drink alcohol. 6. No animal shall kill any other animal. 7. All animals are equal (Orwell 24). Snowball s approach to freedom was an idea of complete equality; all the animals worked for their share of the food. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a common method of financing a start up. The founder provides all the share capital of the company, retaining 100% control over the business. The advantages of investing in share capital are covered in the section on business structure. The key point to note here is that the entrepreneur may be using a variety of personal sources to invest in the shares. Once the investment has been made, it is the company that owns the money provided. The shareholder obtains a return on this investment through dividends (payments out of profits) and/or the value of the business when it is eventually sold. A start up company can also raise finance by selling shares to external investors this is covered further below. 1.2 External sources * Loan capital This can take several forms, but the most common are a bank loan or bank overdraft. A bank loan provides a longer term kind of finance for a start up, with the bank stating the fixed period over which the loan is provided (e.g. 5 years), the rate of interest and the timing and amount of repayments. The bank will usually require that the start up provide some security for the loan, although this security normally comes in the form of personal guarantees provided by the entrepreneur. • 6. Essay On The Trail Of Tears Along the Trail of Tears The Trail of Tears played a part in what is known as the Manifest Destiny, which was the expansion of the colonists to the west. Gold was found on the Cherokee land during the Georgia Gold Rush. The greed that it created was one of the leading causes of the Trail of Tears where thousands of Native Americans were forcibly relocated from their native lands (Cherokee.org). Little did the Native Americans realize that the new nation that was going to be forming around them would affect not only their lives but the lives of their descendants. Even though the Cherokee made efforts to keep their land through the court system and even attempted to assimilate to the American way of life it was to no avail. They tried to agree to treaties with the United States Government. Even though, they were eventually forced to leave their lands. By forcing the Native Americans to abandon their homes, robbing their lands, taking their freedom, and forcing them to adapt and to assimilate into a new land and culture showed how vindictive President Andrew Jacksonwas regarding the Native Americans. The Trail of Tears was an instance of the United States Government committing genocide against the Native Americans Until 1828, the federal government agreed that Cherokee had rights to their land, but when Andrew Jackson was elected President, that all ended. Jackson refused to believe that the tribes were sovereign and thus viewed Indian treaties, as an absurdity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Descriptive Essay About Snow White Snow White. Casper. Why do these characters sound familiar to me? Well, these have been the nicknames I have acquired through the years. I describe myself as bright white. I never realized how white I was until people felt the dire need to tell me. As a young child, I never really thought it was a super colossal deal either. But as we age, we learn new things that perhaps we did not recognize before. People say that some things in life, you just never forget. This indeed is very true. Words can scar. Several summers ago I was at a friend s house playing volleyball with a few people. Does it bother you that you are so white? asked a girl who I did not even know. I dropped the ball and stared at her with a blank expression. All that was running through my mind was, Does it bother you that you are so obnoxious? But of course this thought was not vocalized. I simply kept playing volleyball. But soon after I established questions. Does it bother me? Should it bother me? I went home that day and glared at myself in the mirror. Then it struck me, I was whiter than most people were. This one stranger s comment made me question myself. I began to over analyze and as time passed by my self esteem plummeted. I thought that maybe if I had been born with sun kissed skin, my family and friends would not judge me. Then, I began wearing makeup to not look as sickly as people made me out to be. I developed a sudden yearning to go down to the shore all the time to try to get some type of color. But then one day, I studied my mom s face. Her smooth, glowing, and porcelain skin made me wonder. I was curious as how a woman at her age could look ten years younger. My mom shared the specific ingredient to maintaining beautiful skin. She explained that staying out of the sun was the key to wrinkle free skin as an adult. Hundreds of thoughts ran through my mind. She also stated that as a teenager, she experienced all the same reactions. In fact, one crude person asked if she had lived in a bomb shelter, meaning that it looked as if she never saw the sun. The irony of it all was that these people with the so called society accepted complexions who told me to lay in the sun, actually had imperfections on their skin from ... • 9. The Book Of Proverbs By King Solomon The book of Proverbs is a collection of proverbs, poems, and parables written by King Solomon in efforts to teach wisdom to God s people. Although I would not deem myself to be an extremely religious person, I believe I identify with with Proverbs the most because whether you are religious or not this book of biblical wisdom teaches many moral lessons that can be applied for a better life and connect with many contemporary issues. This is important on a grander scale as well because as many people of my generation see the Bibleas something that should only be read and applied to your life if you believe in God, but these verses reveal that they can used to teach you how to live a good life in this day of age regardless of religious background by looking at the Bible as a literary source instead of solely just a religious one. One of the most common contemporary issues today is relationships. King Solomon touches on the idea of finding the perfect significant other when he states, A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies (New International Version, Proverbs 31:10). King Solomon is saying that a woman of good honest character is more valuable than any material object. You could have an influx of riches and a sexy model girlfriend, but what does it matter if she is constantly cheating on you with other men and using you for your money. I closely identify with this excerpt in particular because it applies to my generation s relationship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Film Analysis Of The Movie Kingsm The Secret Service The movie Kingsman: The Secret Service is a thriller and action packed movie revolving around Kingsman a spy agency which for decades has been in action undercover to save the mankind from its enemies. The theme of the film revolves around the triumph of good over evil and how the good side eventually wins, diminishing the evil. The movie evokes a feeling of thrill and anticipation through the mise en scene it has to offer. Mise en scene is the information that the filmprovides through the medium of vision. Mise en scene plays an important role in this movie as a lot of visual effects are used in the film to show a technologically advanced world filled with high tech gadgets, weapons, and systems. The movie takes place in multiple locations be it Kentucky, London, Argentina or more. The audiences are introduced to these locations before each scene through extremely long establishing shots with the name of the geographical location appearing on the side. As most of the scenes are taking place indoors this introduction of the geographical location provides an in depth of the diegesis to the audiences. It also helps in the creation of space as closed indoor spaces cannot convey their locations according to the need of the story, whether they are actually shot there or not. The movie starts off with a fight sequence in the Middle East, making the subject of the film clear and thus preparing them for the violence that is yet to come. The movie has two crucial characters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Carol Ann Duffy s Revision of Masculinist Representations... Carol Ann Duffy s Revision of Masculinist Representations of Female Identity Carol Ann Duffy is one of the freshest and bravest talents to emerge in British poetry any poetry for years , writes Eavan Boland (Duffy, 1994, cover). This courage is manifest in Duffy s ability and desire to revise masculinist representations of female identity and her engagement with feminine discourse, a concept which, as Sara Mills points out: has moved away from viewing women as simply an oppressed group, as victims of male domination, and has tried to formulate ways of analysing power as it manifests itself and as it is resisted in the relations of everyday life. (p.78) It is these aspects of Duffy s work that I wish to address here by examining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ian Gregson comments on this when he states that: Duffy explores how masculinist ways of seeing determine how women are regarded, even by themselves, and how language determines the experiences it is supposed merely to describe, how representation makes dummies of us all. (p.101) This notion of female identity as a constructed in masculine discourse but accepted by all, is a recurring theme in Duffy s poetry. She stereotypes many of her characters in order to foreground their incongruous place within a modern society. She also highlights the inadequacies of language as a form of expression in the Lacanian sense that no meaning is sustained by anything other than reference to another meaning (Lacan, p.83). Language, therefore, is an unreliable form of expression and, as such, is deconstructed by Duffy through the use of dramatic monologues to represent speech rather than written forms, and by her juxtaposition of seemingly random nouns and adjectival phrases and her use of compound words. Language is used to create a tension throughout her work, particularly in her insistence on foregrounding the construction of the poem itself. This tension is demonstrated in Recognition , from Selling Manhattan (1987), where Duffy explores the fabrication of female identity and the inability of language to re present that identity by employing a dramatic monologue voiced by a despondent housewife: [...] I love him, through habit, but the proof has ... Managed Aquifer Recovery Systems As reported by the South Australian local government of Charles Sturt (2012), Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) or Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) is essentially the deliberate storage of surface water (i.e. in the form of stormwater, treated effluent etc) within aquifers. This process is used where water is pumped into aquifers for future usage. Furthermore, MAR systems avoid the need for expensive above ground water tanks, or reservoirs which are subject to significant water evaporation (Charles Sturt, 2012). As reported by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also proposed to locate an MAR 2km from the coast roughly in the middle of the study area. This MAR will inject tertiary treated sewage water into all three aquifers to prevent salinity intrusion that is occurring in that vicinity. As discussed above, we have an initial water balance from a previous study of the Study Area, and we have some new parameters to enter into our assessment, namely the proposal to extract 2 ML/d from the reservoir, and 5 ML/d from the river. We must also note that the proposed MAR does not specify how much water would be injected, and the proposed permits assessed below do not stipulate the quality of water required. If the permits below require high quality water, (i.e. better than tertiary treated effluent), the following assessment may be inaccurate. 3.4. Water Balance Reservoir The initial water balance suggests that the water balance for the reservoir (i.e. the net change in water in storage) was 10450 ML / Year, and one of the proposed industrial plants is seeking a permit to extract 1825 ML / Year from the reservoir. We can see that the figures above are yield a decrease in the net change in water volume in storage in the reservoir, however there is still a significant amount of water in the reservoir throughout the year (8625 ... • 16. Reconstruction African American Reconstruction American Reconstruction began in 1865 at the end of the civil war. The period s main focus was to rebuild the country after war by enacting and changing many key pieces of legislature in the American government. One divisive factor that needed to be addressed was how much representation African Americans deserved in America. During the reconstruction period, African American rights were extended through various new amendments and working opportunities, however, these rights did not last long as they were undermined by black codes and sharecropping. In 1865, the American government successfully passed the thirteenth amendment: ending the institution of slavery in America. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. The thirteenth amendment opened up economic opportunity for African Americans as slaves were no longer owned by someone else. However, not long after the thirteenth amendment was passed, former slaveholders and southerners created the black codes. Black Codes were a set of laws intended to restrict African American freedoms, causing them to go into low wage labor. A black code passed in the state of South Carolina stated, To do farm work, a black in South Carolina had to have a written contract, attested to by white witnesses; failure to obtain one before commencing to work was a misdemeanor ... In response to the article, I agree with the information about body confidence and its negative effects on body image of teenage girls. I also discuss how logos and pathos strengthen the article and what would make it a stronger and more credible source for information on teen body image. In the beginning of the article, the author shows a progression of teenage girls comparing their bodies to those they see in movies and magazines for the previous generation to social media for millennials. The ever evolving social media is constantly allowing for the opportunities to compare themselves to unrealistic versions of the human figure. A world where there are hundreds of apps that can airbrush everything from waist lines to teeth, teenage girls are having a harder and harder time separating the ways their body should look and the way media thinks they should look. • 20. Pros And Cons Of Ration Books And The Rationing System Ration books With the onset of WWII, the United States needed a system to savor their supplies, so the government put in place the rationing system. They used ration books to get supplies like meat and sugar from grocery stores, a ration book was kind of like a coupon book, you couldn t buy a rationed item without having a ration stampfor that item (National WWII museum). So it s like a mix of a coupon book, and a you have permission to buy this item stamp. But nothing is perfect, not even the ration books, so here are some cons the ration books the rationing system spawned. First, that the ration system/books spawned that was illegal was the black market, since you could only buy something if you had a rationing stamp from a grocery store, people sometimes needed more than they had, so the black market allowed people to buy rationed items for a higher price, and they didn t need the ration stamp for that item (United States History). One aspect of the rationing system was that the food wasn t very fresh, so if people wanted some fresh vegetables they had to make their own gardens (victory gardens) and once they did that their family could enjoy fresh food for a few months while the garden was still alive, many people did this, there were approximately 20 million victory gardens (20,000,000) (United States History). Deviance is an individual or organizational behavior that violates societal norms and is usually accompanied by negative reactions from others. According to a sociologist S. Becker, he stated that it is not the act itself that makes an action deviant, but rather how society reacts to it. Second, the threat to public health because of transmission of venereal disease. Fourth, the effect on marital relations where recourse is had to prostitutes. Finally, the patronage of prostitutes by young persons, soldiers in particular, and its effect on national values (Sexual Deviation in American Society 168). Nowadays, prostitution is regarded as an evil in virtually all societies; but in most societies, it is regarded as an evil that cannot be eliminated. On the other hand, in ancient civilizations, prostitution was not condemned as evil. It was considered sacred by some religious sects. In primitive societies among African peoples, certain women were available in the market place at the end of the normal trading hours for commercialized sex. I never took a deep look at all the social and political factors that exist within the spectrum of disability. This course has allowed me to examine all aspects of disability, which has changed my view and approach of what a disability is and how it is viewed. Historically, disability has been viewed fundamentally as a persoal tragedy, which has resulted in diasbled people being seen as objects of pity or in need of charity. They have been subject to descriminatory policies and practices in which the predominant images of passivity and helplesness reinforced their inferior status (Barton 4). Uncovering the framework of disability, by studying the historical, soicial political and educational standpoint, I see the intricacies in which gives me a greater understanding and awareness of the topic. In a me driven society we often don t take the time, to look at life through a different lens other than what you may personally experience on a daily basis. In striving for a more perfect society we must be able to do just that, try to see life from other people s perspectives, to try to envision what life might be like for people who face an onslaught of racism, sexism, all the isms you can think of. in a societal construct in, which is designed for a few. People with disabilities are constantly being discriminated upon even though there a law in place, in attempts to bring equality for all. Eventhough I believe it s necessary to be cognizant of other peoples experiences, and not judging people from the surface. In the same light people with disabilities don t often view themselves as being disabled. For eample many disabled people do not consider their disability a flaw or personal deficit with good reason. They are comfortable with who they are, and they do not wish to be fixed or cured (Disablity Theory4). He says we should create our own ideals and worship them. Russell explains that worshiping our ideals gives us true freedom. As he says, in determination to worship only the god created by our own love of the good, to respect only the heaven which inspires the insight of our best moments (pg.51). I disagree with Russell s argument because worshiping our insights does not reflect reality. Our personal ideals are not realistic. This paper will examine Russell s arguments of his position of worshipping our good instincts rather than the universal power through his idea of freedom, human virtue and by turning indignation to resignation. The second part of this paper will critically analyze Russell s position. Bertrand Russell is concerned with people, whom he calls savages worshipping the universal power. These savages respect the power more than themselves because they find the power greater than anything they see in themselves. Their thoughts and beliefs are of those the power devours. Russell suggests that we should question whether the universal power deserves this respect. Russell concludes that we must follow our very own good instinct, which will bring us true freedom rather than the universal evil power. As he says, the vision of beauty is possible only to unfettered contemplation, to thoughts not weighted by the load of eager wishes (pg.52). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Pledge Of Allegiance And Star Spangled Banner The Pledge of Allegiance and Star Spangled Banner are examples of compulsive patriotism in America that not everyone can see. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangled Banner are orthodoxes Americans have recited for many years since they were created during the 1800 s. The Pledge of Allegiance was practiced everyday in the beginning of class, starting at kindergarten, having all the students and teachers participate. I do not call to mind ever learning about what the pledge signified or meant. Never did I ask myself why we said this pledge of allegiance every single day, it was just a mandatory order of each day. The Star Spangled Banner is the national anthem that is recited before sporting events and official government procedures. Both are traditions in America that show pride for their country, it s freedom, and history. Since the Pledge of Allegiance was something that was recited every single school morning, it did not have much importance to me and just became a school routine, you stand up, place your hand on your heart, say the words, and sit down. Even at one point it became annoying to me because it was something that was sort of being forced. If you were to not fully participate you would be scolded by the teacher or given a look. Now that I am older I have learned more about what it means and understand that it has an emotional meaning to some Americans. The Pledge of Allegiance is a patriotic vow to the United Statesto remain loyal and obedient to the country that offers freedom and justice for all. But why do young kids have to say the Pledge of Allegiance? I believe students should be taught the history behind the pledge and what every line in it means and denotes. In addition, the students should be at a more mature age before having to make this promise. Rosenbaum said The America I feel allegiance to isn t the America that requires compulsory displays of loyalty (Rosenbaum, 56). Hazing is another variable method closely aligned with fraternities and sororities, but hazing for different fraternities and sororities can have vastly different outcomes. Hazing, in its most simple and basic form, is the imposition of strenuous or complicated tasks as a form of initiation. In contrast to popular belief, a lot of normal activity is considered hazing. For example, a college football team might tell the freshman that they are responsible for cleaning up loose garbage on the field after a practice.
