The Tragic Heroes Of Hamlet And Oedipus
The Tragic Heroes Hamlet and Oedipus
A hero in a drama is the focus point throughout the story, someone who technically saves life s
and carries pride within them. In Hamlet by Shakespeare and Oedipus Rex by Sophocles they
simply create a tragic hero due to their stories having a twist in what a hero turns out to be at the
end of the dramatic stories. They have similar issues as well as they have their differences in their
stories. Shakespeare and Sophocles create a similar touch to their dramatic heroes, and not only do
they write those type of stories but they also create different characteristics to them and defining
them in other ways that can be entertaining. Even though in both Hamlet, and Oedipus contain
tragic endings, both main characters were viewed as heroes at one point in the story, however the
authors did not create a same character each main character has their own characteristics and each
author had their way of writing a drama. Shakespeare and Sophocles wrote different things and as
well as Shakespeare is known for his poems, he is also known for his dramatic stories with a tragic
ending.
Hamlet, the son of a king, happens to lose his father while in a short amount of time his mother
marries his uncle, the brother of the king of Denmark. While Hamlet is trying to figure out
everything, the ghost of his father happens to appear, and it tells him that his uncle the current king
of Denmark is the one that caused his death. As crazy as it sounds, it is true, his

John F. Kennedy s Civil Rights Speech
Does everyone deserve civil rights? John F. Kennedy believed so during the Civil Rights
Movement. The Civil Right Movement began around 1950 and ended around 1970. A few of the
major leaders were Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and John F. Kennedy. The purpose of the
Civil Rights Movement was to end discrimination and prejudice among whites and blacks. Many
African Americans did not have the same rights as Caucasians mainly due to their skin being a
different color. A famous speech delivered by John F. Kennedy
was The Nation Faces a Moral
Crisis Regarding Race on June 11, 1963 at Washington D.C.. A major theme of John F. Kennedy
s speech was racism. In The Nation Faces a Moral Crisis in Regard to Race , John F. Kennedy
inspires his intended audience during the Civil Rights Movement by using the rhetorical devices
of tone and repetition. Kennedy advocates greater civil rights for African Americans. Because of
increasing violence and chaos between whites and blacks, Kennedy felt the need to address the
nation concerning racism. In John F. Kennedy s speech, The Nation Faces a Moral Crisis in
Regard to Race, Kennedy hoped his audience would consider and support equal rights for all men
I hope that every American, regardless of where he lives, will stop and examine his conscience
about this and other related incidents [...] This nation was founded by men of many nations and
backgrounds [...] It was founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and that the rights

Ben Fielding Evolution
Character Evolution of Ben Fielding
Ben Fielding. Who can tell what he will do next? Ambitious and driven to always achieve the
best, he is at the top of his game. Every monday he reviews his goals, gets ready and goes to work
ready to accomplish anything. Everyone knew Ben was on the fast track to CEO... he d be sitting
in the big chair right on schedule. (Alcorn, pg 18) Constantly busy and pushing everyone around
him to be at their best he became the prime candidate for CEO. Ben s forte is business and he
loves the thrill of it.
Ben has had a rough couple of years. With the death of his son and his divorce following right
after, Ben has thrown himself into his work. With the hustle and bustle around him he has little
time to think, say, or do anything besides what is going on with the company. Keeping his three
goals on his mind, he strives to expand the company but at the expense of his morals. While they
are not bad goals, they do not have God included at all. In fact he moved so far from God that he
fired his own cousin for being a Christian. Becoming blind to the fact he needed a savior and Lord,
was the turning point in Ben s career.

Australopithecus Afarensis
In recent years, anthropologists have made incredible work in discovering all the different kinds of
human species. The discovery of a certain human species, the Australopithecus Afarensis, was
mostly credited to the finding of a single individual, AL 288 1, or Lucy. She has helped
anthropologists to understand the diet, anatomy, environment, sexual dimorphism, the technology
or tools used during their time, and bipedalism of this early hominin. The evolution of humans is
interesting due to the questions we are trying to find and the answers we might never find. While
investigating the mysteries behind Australopithecus Afarensis, it may shine some light on how
closely related to this ancestor species. Humans created a theory that millions... Show more content

This earlier hominin was between a mixture of human like traits and ape like traits. Sexual
dimorphism plays a role in ape like features such as pointed canines that were longer than the rest of
the teeth and a diastema for their canines that are not seen in modern today humans. Their enamel
in their teeth is thick indicating that they feed on rough objects like plants, nuts, and seeds. It is
believed with the little evidence of Australopithecus Afarensis, that the skeletal size was affected
by sexual dimorphism as well. Body size and body mass change in inter male competition

shoulder blade sockets that were positioned upward because their closest relative were

has shown they were able to take hold of rough stone tools (Szpak, 2007). Their rib cage was
shaped like a cone because it gave more space for a larger stomach. The size of their brain was

Personality, Psychology, And Humanistic Approach
Personality in a Nutshell Personality is looked at everyday purposely and accidently. Whether you
are judging how your new professor for the semester will be, or if you are studying your best friend
for a project, personality is studied abundantly. While there are many ways to define personality,
there is not a worldwide definition around. Personality is the unique combination of patterns that
influence behavior, thought, motivation, and emotion in a human being (boundless.com). That is
one of many ways of defining personality. When examining personality, there are four main
approachable theories including: The Psychodynamic Approach, The Trait Approach, The Social
Cognitive Approach, and The Humanistic Approach. The Psychodynamic Approach was first
approach by Sigmund Freud; he dealt with the understanding that personality came from our
unconscious state of mind. And that unconscious state interacted to determine our thoughts,
behaviors, and feelings (Bernstein, 425). Freud also created the psychoanalytical theory stating
that personality led the way to handling psychological disorders. He divided personality into
three main topics; which are the id, the ego, and the superego. The id is the basis of each human
being s instincts we are all born with. It is the immediate wants I crave; it may show more selfish
side. The ego is the part that subdues the id and calms it down. It allows me to think and realize
certain actions may upset someone else around me. The superego is

Reasoning methods and Argumentation
The main division between forms of reasoning that is made in philosophy is between deductive
reasoning and inductive reasoning. Formal logic has been described as the science of deduction .
The study of inductive reasoning is generally carried out within the field known as informal logic or
critical thinking.

The Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union
The European Union s role in the international sphere, as well as the aim to improve its external
actions, have been considered to be the two most important features of the Lisbon Treaty. Within
the Lisbon Treaty, the combination of the provisions on mutual assistance and solidarity created
new pressures on member states to assist one another in cases of armed attacks, disasters being it
natural or man made and crisis on EU territory.
The Lisbon Treaty brought about many changes within the structure of the European Union. One
particular change was that the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) was to be replaced
by the Common and Security Defence Policy (CSDP). The Lisbon Treaty emphasized the
importance of such a change because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Member States have an obligation to provide aid and assistance to any state that becomes a
victim of an armed attack. The Treaty on the European Union specifically states that the alliance
obliges the Member States to implement mutual assistance.
Article 222 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union also speaks of the Mutual
Assistance Clause. It argues that if there had to be an armed attack on one of the EU Member
States, it is ideal to use the Mutual Assistance Clause in situations other than the ones mentioned
under Article 42(7). Article 222 TFEU tends to widen the scope of the clause.
THE MUTUAL SOLIDARITY CLAUSE
The Solidarity Clause has not been given much attention since the establishment of the Lisbon
Treaty and is often confused with the Mutual Assistance Clause found under article 42(7) TEU. The
lack of attention can be quite understandable due to the fact that the Lisbon Treaty was full of
headline goals and aspirations, which took the focus off single paged provisions. The Mutual
Solidarity Clause is found in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union under Article
222. Article 222 TFEU, compliments the Assistance Clause by not only widening its scope but also
in its tasks.
Moreover, Article 222 TFEU is a one page provision which creates one of the most important
demands on the EU Member States to act in a jointly manner and assist one another in case any of

I remember sitting at our dining room table, looking past the window. I wasn t much older than
eleven. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon, and I was bored out of my mind. I sighed, wishing
there was something exciting to do. My mother told me that I should go outside and play, but I
had already played at our playground what seemed like a million times already. The playground
was only ten yards away from our small 800 square foot apartment, in the heart of Omaha,
Nebraska. This was a convenience to some kids, but to me it was aggravating. I sat there in that
wooden dining chair thinking how this summerhad been one of the most uneventful summers I had

Sometimes we would both go down, sit on the bridge while we let our feet hang loose to let the
cooling water drip past our toes, and breathed in the smell of pine and moss. The sound of
rushing water hitting the rocks was soothing. You could see giant bullfrogs peering their heads
up and out of the water, as still as could be. Although their green coloring blends in with the
moss, I always knew to look for a pair of gleaming yellow eyes, and their white chin that was
always above the surface of the water. We usually let them be, but sometimes we liked to try to

United States Logic Behind Multilateral Peace Building...
What causes two groups from the same nation to engage in a bloody and lengthy civil war?
Although greed and grievances are commonplace explanations, they alone cannot account for the
duration and recurrence of intrastate war over the last half century. To properly understand this
phenomenon, one must perceive the cause of domestic armed conflict as an instance of bargaining
failure. While all three proximate causes of bargaining failure in civil warare exactly the same as
those in international war, their situations are distinguished by the fact that the cause of a civil wars
persistence is the same as it s initiation. I will argue that problems with credible commitment are
the most profound obstacle in the resolution of civil conflict and are largely responsible for their
recurrence and duration. In support, this essay will discuss the logic behind multilateral peace
building strategies such as the utilization of peacekeeping forces and third party guarantees of
ceasefire agreements. When conflict arises between independent states, multinational peacekeeping
organizations such as the UN can impose extensive economic sanctions and deploy their military
forces in order to end a war by vastly increasing its costs. Regulated by an international police
force, states are more inclined to accept peace, bargain with their enemies, and stay loyal to their
word. This is not the case with domestic disputes. Opposite to international conflict, when a
settlement is reached between

Linda Boreman s Experience With The Pornographic Film
Lovelace is a biographical drama chronicling Linda Boreman s experience with the pornographic
film industry from the age of 20 to the age of 32. In the 1970 s, Linda (played by Amanda
Seyfried) meets Chuck Traynor (played by Peter Sarsgaard), and falls in love. Short on money,
Chuck coerces Linda into prostitution and the pornographic film industry. Spending only
seventeen days in the porn industry, Linda becomes the star of one of the most well known
pornographic films in western history, Deep Throat, and receives the stage name of Linda
Lovelace, all while enduring abuse from her manipulative husband. The themes such as sexual
coercion, sex for sale, and gnder roles, are expressed throughout the film. The sexual coercion of
Linda Boreman by Chuck Traynor is what set in motion the events of Linda s ordeal. Until the
end of Linda and Chuck s marriage, Linda was forced into preforming sexual acts on Chuck
Traynor through implied threats as well as physical abuse, thus experiencing acquaintance rape.
Chuck s person being one who conform to traditional gender roles, particularly one of male
dominance, is what Our Sexuality infers from research done by Hartwick et al., 2005, as more
likely to commit rape. However, during the time of Linda s experiences, it was culturally accepted
that wives obeyed their husbands.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What are your demands of the university administration and why are they important? How will
they help DACA recipients? If possible, this portion will include interviews with DACA
recipients if they are willing to speak publicly. They will speak on their experiences, hopes and
fears as DACA recipients. The film will close with the plans of these organizations and students
moving forward; what consequences they fear and what can be done by the average person to
help those affected by this policy change. The spine of this story is the DACA students and their
allies quest for help from the University of Michigan administration and their desparate rally
against the potential deportation of hundreds of thousands of immigrants. The central tension lies
here, between the administration, which has only voiced its support of DACA recipients but has
done nothing, and the portion of the faculty and student body rallying to support their peers,
loved ones, and thousands of others aided by DACA. This film also will employ the Performative
Documentary Mode as it will address the audience emotionally and expressively, using interviews
to attempt to draw the viewer into alignment with the film s subjective ideology, which is that
DACA defendants are doing important work on campus with real concrete effects on fellow
students and faculty, who are threatened by the repeal of DACA and that ending DACA is a
dangerous political move for all

Destiny And Self-Determination In Eva Luna, By Isabel Allende
Question One
Isabel Allende explores the essential theme of destiny and self determination. In doing so she
addresses many additional issues.
Identify three specific themes that Allende raises in Eva Luna. Give specific examples from the
text of how each of these themes are raised by characters and/or events in the novel. In other words,
how does Allende present these themes? What is the position she takes and the message she intends
to communicate?
The themes of destiny and self determination have great company in the Isabel Allende s novel, Eva
Luna. Additional themes of gender imbalance, fortitude, and power vs. poverty exist. Specific ways
in which
Allende raises the theme of gender imbalance or gender inequality, is through Eva herself. By
definition, gender inequality refers to the idea and situation that women and men are not equal.
Eva Luna, narrated from Eva s first person point of view, goes into vivid detail about her mother
s beginnings, and her fate of being born female, in which case the missionaries who found her
just covered her shame (Allende 2) with a diaper. This is the very first instance of gender
inequality. As Consuelo grew up, the only skills she was taught was how to work as a
housekeeper. She was not even allowed to attend a Carlow Gardel movie until a more progressive
government promised to bring the nation into the 20th century. After Eva was born, the same way
of life continued for her, oppressed for being female. She was taught

Critical Race Theory Analysis
In May 2018, more than a million school age children from Grades 3 and 5 in primary school and
Years 7 and 9 in secondary schools across Australia will complete the National Assessment
Program Literacy and Numeracy Test (NAPLAN). Millions of students around the world are
similarly tested in schools with their own versions of standardised testing. I am going to discuss
that NAPLAN and other forms of testing excludes specific groups of people such as students with
an Indigenous background, an English as an Additional Language background and students with a
disability using critical race theory.
From my own personal experience, NAPLAN was not around until I was in Year 9, I remember

The publication of results of NAPLAN served to clearly reiterate disparities in academic outcomes
when Indigenous students were compared with non Indigenous. There can be little doubt that the
statistics speak of the grave urgency to improve the achievement outcomes and engagement of
Indigenous students in education: for example, 63.4% of Year 5 Indigenous students were at or
above the national benchmark in literacy and numeracy compared with 92.6% of non Indigenous
students. The Closing the gap policy offers unrealistic targets that fails to respond to contextually
specific needs of individuals or communities and is imbued with continuing assimilationist
undercurrents. Accepting this critique enables the policy to be viewed as failing to serve the

Israel maintains the longest current military occupation of a sovereign territory. In 1948 Britain
withdrew its mandate from Palestine causing the United Nations to split the area into two separate
states, creating Israel and Palestine. Being the only Jewish state in a region of Muslim controlled
governments, this was the cause for decades of conflict between Israel and various Muslim states.
The outcome of these conflicts was Israel occupying East Jerusalem, Gaza Strip, Golan Heights and
the West Banksince 1967, making these territories the longest current military occupation of any
sovereign land. This military occupation has caused havoc among the region due to many conflicts

Definition Of A Comedy
Comedy to me is something that you see or hear that makes people laugh. What I find funny are
impersonations, things that are expected or sarcastic jokes. Impersonations can mean the way
someone talks, walks or acts. I personally find some accents to be hilarious and if someone
imitates the accent, it will just crack me up., If its someone famous that everyone knows and if that
person talks funny or walks funny, then it will cause other people to laugh because they know its
true. An expected jokeis when, someone tells a joke but you already know how its going to end
so you start laughing before the joker finishes the joke. Sarcasm is probably the best jokes to me.

For example, I love watching Steve Harvey and Kevin Hart. As long as I m watching, I just cant
stop laughing. While I can relate to what the joke is about say for instance, the look mama gives
you in church when you talking through service . Without having to mimic the look on her face,
I already know because I can relate to that. A person who cannot relate to this would probably
not find it funny because they don t realize what so funny about it. Even if the person could
relate, they may think that the joke is disrespectful especially if they were the subject being joked
about. In this case it would be the mothers. The thing I love about my two favorite comedians is
the way the tell the joke. They don t just tell jokes, they put on a whole show by the way they talk,
act and laugh.
I have never heard of funny bone so I looked it up. Its actually an nerve called the ulna nerve
found at your elbow and it creates a tingling sensation when it hit against the humerus. It s a weird

Texas Income Tax
The state of Texas should not adopt a personal income tax. Any legislator who would propose a bill
seeking to establish a state income tax would be seriously questioned, because a state income tax is
currently unconstitutional.
The Texas Constitution was amended in 1993, during Governor William P. Clements second
administration, to prohibit a state income tax. Therefore, any such proposal would have serious
difficulties passing both chambers of the legislature and then it would be subject to ratification
through a statewide referendum. Texas lack of a state income tax seems to have enhanced its
economy vitality with this approach. It also lacks a corporate income tax, which is not prohibited
by the Constitution. Texas is one of seven... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could cut the local tax rate in most school districts now around $1.50 per $100 of property
value for maintenance and operations (M O) to roughly 50 cents! The maximum M O tax rate
also now generally capped at $1.50 must be reduced by the same percentage as total M O taxes.
If the income tax cut the property tax rate by 65%, then it would also cut the tax cap by 65%.
After the cap was cut, only the voters in a school district could increase their district s maximum
tax rate. The Bullock Amendment then provides that the remaining one third of income tax
revenue could be spent, but only on education. State income tax payments are deductible from
taxable income in calculating federal income taxes. Deductibility shifts part of the cost of public
education to the federal government. The above chart shows that, although the tax would have
raised $16.4 billion in 2004, the net cost to Texas taxpayers would have been only $3.9 billion.
Lower property taxes would have returned most of the new revenue ($10.9 billion) to taxpayers.
Uncle Sam would have picked up 10% of the total cost of the income tax ($1.6 billion) through
higher deductions on federal tax

Children Should Not Receive Scheduled Vaccinations
Children are a vulnerable group within a population with respect to diseases, which then increases
their susceptibility to various illnesses, as adults generally have a stronger immune system as
compared to children. Steens, Beasley, Tsui, and Lee (1975) argued that children are more prone
to be a carrier of diseases than adults (as cited in Anderson and May, 1985). With that being said,
the focus remains on vaccinating children as the majority are in school for a great amount of time
where they are in proximity of one another, the continuous sharing of items, and are usually
inconsistent with hand hygiene. Under those circumstances, Anderson and May (1985) found that
in children aged 5 15 infection rates would increase as a result of close contact within schools.
Children who do not receive scheduled vaccinations put themselves, as well as others at risk for
vaccinepreventable diseases, as infants who are too young of age to receive vaccines, children,
elderly, and community members who have compromised immune systems most vulnerable to
acquiring vaccine preventable diseases. Omer, Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey (2009) argued
that outbreaks of diseases regularly begins with individuals who refuse vaccinations, as it spreads
within communities and other populations. Combining these factors, there is a high possibility of
outbreaks in schools of life threatening illnesses such as measles, mumps, and polio that
unfortunately has taken many lives retrospectively. For

Fossil Fuels And Renewable Energy Essay
Finding energy sources is an issue that polarizes scientists, politicians and citizens alike. The most
critical points of this debate are at fossil fuels and renewable energy. Energy efficiency is arguably
the most dire concern facing the planet, because it significantly impacts all areas of everyday life.
Common ground can be found in this controversy because both parties do agree that humans have a
responsibility to future generations. That responsibility is to preserve the resources of the Earth,
while offering this generation energy that is affordable and accessible.
Many people contend that fossil fuels, while being the most cost effective source of energy, have
detrimental effects on the environment. Others argue that fossil fuels have little negative
environmental impact and that producing alternative energy is too economically prohibitive to be
feasible. In 2010, the Gallup Poll conducted a national poll that found half of the Americans
surveyed favored expanding energy production via fossil fuels even if it harms the environment.
This was the case in nearly every major demographic subgroup, although self identified liberals
remained constant in supporting environmental protection as the higher priority (McDermott).
Of these two types of energy production, fossil fuels like oil, gas, and coal make up about ninety
percent of the world s energy usage. Nuclear power takes up five percent of this equation, with the
remaining renewable energy resources splitting

Enter Three Witches Chapter Summary
Enter Three Witches is a gripping retelling of Shakespeare s classic Macbeth. Written by Caroline
Cooney, the novel follows Lady Mary as she experiences the tyranny of Lady Macbeth, and the
struggles of trying to save the lives of anyone she can. Many comparisons can be drawn to the
original, however many differences are prevalent. Although suspenseful and action packed, Enter
Three Witchesstruggles with keeping characters straight and starts off very slow. Cooney takes the
reader on a sporadic point of view hopping adventure throughout the world of Mr. and Mrs.
Macbeth. Following Lady Mary, Seyton, Fleance, and the maids, we get an individual perspective
of the events of Macbeth. It soon becomes very difficult to determine what events are being
referred to, and extremely difficult due to the time frames being covered. The story covers many
characters and relations, and gives an inside look at day to day... Show more content on

The story begins to feel like slow motion as they are introduced in a long exposition covering the
vast amount of people. We are repeatedly told how Lady Mary is afraid, and how she is
struggling to escape the harsh realities of life with Lady Macbeth. She is always discussing her
love life, something readers may find a bore. Although there is an early battle revealed in the
novel, the drawn out expositions overshadow the suspense of Enter Three Witches. The novel also
focuses too much on the role the witches play. In the original Macbeth, the battle of ambition
versus prophecy is shown in the likes of Macbeth. Macbeth decidedly acts on his own accord, and
his greed turns him into a mad man. It is shown countless times throughout the original that
ambition trumps prophecy. In Enter Three Witches, the Witch s prophecy is the law of the land.

Common Characteristics And Similarities Between Dari And...
Abstract
Dari is the language that my paper will discuss in detail. This language is spoken in Afghanistan
by 5 million people. In this paper I will discuss some characteristics of the frequency adverbs. I
will show examples to prove how these adverbs move in the sentences freely and where they occur.
What was interesting also is that I found similarities between Dari and English. Frequency adverbs
in Dari have common characteristics with English. Both languagesallow adverbs to move in
different position.
1. Introduction
Dari is a spoken language in Afghanistan. It is a SOV language. For this paper I choose to
discuss(frequency adverbs). An adverb is a word that modifiesthe manners of verbs. There are
many kinds of adverbs such as manner, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aksar
2. Aksarwagt: in this case, people addsuffixwagt which means (time) to refer to a specific time.
It is not important to add or delete the suffix wagt. If it is added it will not change themeaning in
a speech it only tells what is the time in a very specific way. If it is deleted people will know that
you are talking about time but not in certainty.
4. Conclusion :
In Dari, adverbs like (Frequently, always, sometimes and usually) occurs in 3 positions: before
verb, after verb and at the begging of a sentence.
Adverb like usually has 2 ways in written form: aksar before verb and aksarwagt if the position is
changed.
Adjectives can be described as adverbs by adding the prefix ba, and they will always occur before
verbs.
To conclude this paper, Dari is an interesting and simple language. Frequency adverbs are
interesting because they describe the time of any event. Their Frequency adverbs are flexible and
they move easily in the sentences. They occur in the beginning of the sentence, before or after a
verb. They do not make any changes to the meaning.

An Analysis Of Hitchcock s The Caged Birds Versus The...
Psychologists have suggested the idea that correlation does not imply causation. In The Birds,
viewers find themselves unable to identify the purpose or the cause for the birds attacks. Hitchcock
does not want us to know the answers either, since Hitchcock marvels at his ability to make viewers
question his films and struggle at truly enjoying without fully understanding them. Although this
essay cannot find a cause for the attacks in the town or to the characters that seem to be innocent
like the children and the old man in the farm, it should shed some light on the correlation between
the timing of the attacks near the Brenner family and Melanie and their internal struggle. The
symbolism of the caged birds versus the free birds, the Jocasta complex Lydia struggles with, and
the imagery of the light versus darkness when the birds attackrepresent the journey Mitch and
Melanie face in trying to be together. First we must make the distinction between caged and free
birds. The caged birds signify a well mannered, tamed, and socially acceptable human being
while the free birds, or rather the birds that attack, have the liberty to act in opposition to the
caged ones. In the beginning scene, after Melanie s attempt to impress Mitch, Mitch salvages the
bird she mistakenly let escape and as he puts it back in its cage says, Back in your gilded cage
Melanie Daniels . This metaphorical cage Melanie resides in is one made up of riches where she is
spoiled and superficial, but she

Advantages Of African American Freedom
Freedom is the power to determine action without restraint, and it is the foundation of our lives
today. Every race has the freedom to vote, go to whichever school they choose, take place in office,
sit in any sector of the bus, etc. Around the 1860 s, Northern African Americans had freedom, but
unlike today, their freedom was restricted. In 1850, before the beginning of the civil war, the
population census concluded that fourteen percent of the population was African American. By
1860, 476,000 of them were free from slavery, but only 221,000 lived in the North. After
winning the Revolutionary war the Northern states gradually began to end slavery and it was
officially abolished in 1842. With all factors in mind, the question of just how free blacks were in
the North still lingers in the air. Blacks in the North were only somewhat free in the years just
before the civil war because they endured restrictions in social, political, and educational areas of
society.
To begin with, northern blacks were only somewhat free because they still had to encounter
segregation, discrimination, and prejudice in their social freedom. Although they were free to live,
they had to use restrooms, public areas, schools, etc. that were specifically assigned to their race. An
English Visitor, Charles Mackay, defined his travels by stating, he shall not be free to dine and
drink at our board...to attend us at the bed of sickness and pain to mingle with us in the concert
room, the lecture room, the theatre, or the church, (document B). African Americans were not
given the opportunity to associate with anyone of the white race, nor were they allowed to be in
the same location as them. Since the white race was considered the superior race , and were
heavily discriminant towards the black race, their segregated public facilities were a lot nicer than
those of african americans. Also, prejudice made it harder for black people to attain jobs. In a
graduation speech made by an african american, he proclaimed white boys won t work with me.
Shall I be a merchant? No one will have me in his office (document C). Because of their race,
african americans struggled to get employed. In society, northern blacks had to suffer through

Strategies For Preventing Guns From The Streets Of New Haven
For years, people in New Haven have been brainstorming strategies to help prevent gun violence in
the communities. With the identifying the factors contributing to gun violence, community
organizers have come up with strategies that are specifically related to them. The main priority is to
completely remove guns from the streets of New Haven. Right now, there are two gunbuy back
programs in New Haven that are lead by Yale New haven Hospital and the New Haven Police
Department (City Wide). The purpose of this program is for people to turn in un registered guns
and receive money in return. Some argue that the gun buy back program does not prevent gun
violence because they are taking guns from law abiding citizens who would never use them in a
crimeand do not reach those who are likely to use them in a crime (Cameron). In New Haven,
guns in the streets travel from people to people and at some point, it can fall into the hands of a
person who is anticipating on shooting someone. That is all that it takes. One of the most
successful gun buy back programs held in new Haven was August 6, 2016. That day, The New
Haven Police Department was able to retrieve one hundred and twenty seven operable firearms.
They took in eighty five handguns, thirty eight rifles and shotguns and four assault weapons
(Wilkins). In the past five years, the New Haven Police Department has collected over five
hundred guns from the gun buy back programs. Going along with the strategy to remove guns off of

Ethical practices related to the supervision and treatment of prison populations2INTRODUCTION
This paper will define the treatment of prisons within the United States, Central America and
Africa, it will explain how many of these countries human rights and due process are violated within
the correctional system, it will further exam how inmates under the supervision of correctional staff
treat inmates while they are incarcerated by not allowing them the due process that they are
required to have. Finally, this paper will also analyze cruel and unusual punishment these inmates
receive while under the supervision of correctional staff.
Ethical practices related to the supervision and treatment of prison populations 3

Carports Research Paper
Why should you prefer carports than garage? You need to protect your car from the harsh
weather when not in use. For that you can either build a garage or a carport. If you re just hoping
to keep the sun from beating up your car s paint job all day, a covered carport is probably all you
need. What is a carport? A carport is a small structure usually used to protect cars from the
outside elements. The structure can be attached to a wall or free standing. Carports more often
than not are open to both sides. However, one can also find those that are partially or completely
closed. Carports usually come in three types: single, double and triple carports. The type of
design will depend on the number of vehicles one wants to store. If a person has two or three
vehicles, he or she can go for triple or double structures. The structure can be installed on a paved
surface, level ground, stem wall or even concrete slab. Carports can be made of timber or metal,
and the roof can be made from polycarbonate, Colorbond, Zincalume, or even other materials (such
as tiles).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first advantage of using a carport over a garage is the cost of installation. It will cost you
half as much to build a carport as a garage. The materials used for the construction of a carport is
cheaper than building a garage. Because a carport isn t an enclosed or liveable space, it s not
necessary to build fire rated walls or ceiling. You won t have to bother with so many city
regulations and fire safety considerations during construction. Carports are less massive so they fit
in with the architecture better. Since carport is more or less open, your car has plenty of natural
ventilation. A carport can be modified to suit a building or home. Design details such as gables can
also be added to compliment a

The Uniform Sales Act imposed obligations on the the seller not dependent upon express agreement

manufacturer s liability to replacement of parts, disclaiming all other warranties, the conflicting
interests of the parties must be evaluated, based on social policy. Absent fraud, one who chooses
not to read a contract before signing cannot disavow it. The basic tenet of freedom to contract is
important. However, the warranty before us is a standardized form designed for mass use, imposed

inequality of bargaining position occupied by the auto consumer is apparent. There is no

At the ten Booms residence it would never have crossed their minds as to whether they should

from Hitler s cruel eugenics movement. Pickwick assisted the ten Booms to find places of
hiding from the Nazi death camps, food cards to sustain them, and aided in the set up of alarms

Now, let us note that there are 3 machines, thus giving us a total of 2,880 units. In addition, the
Boring represents a 25 reject rate, giving us 58 in units. Nevertheless, if we subtract 2,880 units
produced by all three machines from 58 units, then we will get a new total of 2,822 units.
The Drilling Capacity
The following includes, the Drilling Capacity, which has a run time of 2.5 minutes per piece.
Therefore, this produces a total of 384 units per machine, giving us a total of 960 minutes. In
addition, providing that there are a total of 6 machines, thus giving us a total of 2,304 units.
Moving forward, giving that we know that Drilling has a 75 reject rate, and thus providing us with

out to be 2,128 units. Capacity utilization and machine scheduling also reflect tactical

England s Influence On Normandy

monarch was actually a conqueror from another land. King William began his journey in
Normandy, a region that is current day France. Sometime during the year of 1028, he was born in
Falaise, France to Arlette (also known as Herleva), a tanner s daughter, and Robert I, the Duke of
Normandy. As an illegitimate son of his father, he was known as William the Bastard among his
enemies and critics. He eventually rose to power through his conquest of England, and all
throughout history his descendants held the English throne. William the Conquerormarried Matilda

Dna Is A Polymer Of Nucleotides
DNA is a polymer of nucleotides, each consisting of three components. These components include a
nitrogenous base, a deoxyribose sugar and a phosphate group. The hydrophobic nitrogenous bases
are in the DNA molecules interior with the negatively charged phosphate groups on the outside.
Strong covalent bonds link each unit of the nucleotide together. Between the stacked pairs Van der
Waals interactions play an important role in holding the molecule together. There are four different
bases called adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine. Adenine bonds with thymine and cytosine
bonds with guanine through weak hydrogen bonds. The number of bonds between the pairs differs
however with adenine forming two hydrogen bonds with thymine and cytosine forming three with
guanine. Adenine and guanine are nitrogenous bases with two organic rings and are purines.
Cytosine and thymine are pyrimidines with single organic rings. The backbone of the DNA
molecule is formed as the phosphate group of one nucleotide is attached the sugar of the next.
The DNA molecule is made up of two strands and these strands wind together to form a double
helix. There are ten base pairs per turn of the double helix. The strands are antiparallel and the
polynucleotide strand has directionality from 5 end to the 3 end. LINK

My Last Duchess By Robert Browning And The Rape Of The Lock
My Last Duchess by Robert Browning and The Rape of the lock by Alexander Pope are two

are similar in their use imagery and metaphors to grasp their audience attention. For example, in
My last duchess the author shows the wife in the poem as an item controlled by her husband and
uses his love for her as an excuse to abuse his power. Her life is ruled by him and she would have

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)
Important Reminders When Getting Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy [PART I]
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) also known as natural hormone therapy
works when Bioidentical hormones act in the body just like the hormones we produce. It is
primarily used to reduce the symptoms of menopause. Today, it is also used for clinical testing of
blood and saliva, for anti aging purposes, and overall improving the quality of life for women who
have symptoms of menopause.
Bioidentical hormones have the exact molecular structure of those endogenous or natural hormones

The angles that women should know are these three (3) important reminders, especially when
talking about covering hormone supplementation.
Reminder #1 Choose BHRT when you are truly deficient with hormones
This is common sense. You should not take insulin when you still have enough. Some women get
paranoid over the notion that they are reaching 40 and that means menopause and menopause mean
you become estrogen deficient. Yes, we understand that you do not want them to leave the building.
But BHRT is for people who have the hormone deficiency.
The typical assumption of the conventional medicine is that women after menopause become
deficient with estrogen; however, this assumption is false. However, all credible experts agree that
over 66% of women ages 80 and up still continue to make all the estrogen they need. Because of an
aromatase enzyme, women still make estrogen even with the ovaries removed.
You would know that you have enough estrogen in the body when:

A Proposed Easy-to-Use Classification of Mandibular Fractures
There are many classifications put forward for describing mandibular fractures. Most of these
classifications are not without complexity, making it difficult to use it for clinicians specially in
emergency circumstances. Some of them are very comprehensive and gather too much information
which can be good for theoretical purposes but not for practical utilization in clinics and hospitals.
Clinicians prefer to use easy and ready to be used type of classification. Le forte classification for
maxillary fractures though not very comprehensive but still used by most clinician because of its
simplicity. Similarly recently Graham Mount has proposed a new classification for dental caries.

Results
Records of 2767 fracture lines in 1745 patients, fracture line, mostly were found at the angle of
the mandible (31.5%), and then in the condylar process (26.9%). The third most common place
was in the canine and premolar area (19.4%). Unilateral fractures occurred in 739 (42.4%)
patients, while multiple fractures occurred in 1006 (57.6%) patients. Unilateral fractures occurred
at the angle of the mandible (14.6%), then in the condylar process (11.4%), and the third place of
occurrence was in the area of canine and premolars (7.6%) (Table 1).
The patterns of multiple mandibular fractures show the fracture of the body of the mandible on
both side (b b) occurred in 421 (24.1%) patients while fracture of the body of the mandible with
condylar process fracture (b c) occurred in 456 (26.1%) cases, and numerous fractures hit 72

best, so I wanted to go talk to him myself. I walked into his tent which is on it s own side of the
carnival, alone, away from everyone. He told me, You are the one I have been waiting for . What
do you want for me,fakir?
For you to take this burden off of me, He handed me a Monkey paw and said I get three wishes. He
calmly walked me outside and fell over dead as soon as he took one step out of the tent. This is
when all of my hardships began.
When I got back home, my mother was still awake, waiting on me to get back home, it was almost

Methods to Reduce Air Pollution Essay
Methods to Reduce Air Pollution
Air pollution is nothing new. Ever since the discovery of fire, less than desirable substances have
been vented into the air. One of the first air pollution regulations dates back to the fourteenth
century, when King Edward I banned the burning of sea coal in lime kilns. U.S. air pollution
regulations have their roots in British Common Law. But regardless of those efforts, air pollution
continues to be a serious local and world wide problem. Pollution is the pressure within the air of
one or more substances that are harmful to human health, welfare, animal or plant life, or property.
In the past with air pollution we included mainly the outdoor pollutants, although in recent years
this is not the case. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Xenotransplantation
Animal experimentation is widely conducted for drug testing, medical training, education, as well
as Research and Development (R D). Over 100 million animals are killed in the laboratories
annually, and they are physically and psychologically traumatised by experimentation (PETA, 2017;
Live Science, 2017). However, the reality is that majority of animal experiments are unreliable.
Most of their sacrifices do not contribute to improving human health as the medical treatments
developed in animals rarely translate to human benefits due to the differing complexities between
experimental animals and humans (PETA, 2017; Live Science, 2017). Hence, we argue that the
role of animal experimentation in medical research is questionable.

Xenotransplantation is the procedure involving the transplantation of living cells, tissues or organs
from one species to another, particularly from animal to human (NHMRC, 2017). The most widely
studied animal species for xenotransplantation are pigs. Animals are genetically engineered to
produce human cells or substrates, which are used to incubate human organs (Vermeulen et al.,
2017). However, the ethical implications of such applications are debatable.
Since most of the animals involved in transplantation are genetically engineered (transgenic
animals), xenotransplantation is viewed by many as an unnatural and inappropriate interference in
nature (Manesh et al. 2014). Besides the deontological arguments, the consequences and
complications of transplantation process lead to ethical issues. Before and after the transplantation
procedure, the organ receiver must consume large doses of immunosuppressive drugs, which greatly
affects their immune system. The lack of scientific evidence on the desired functions of transplanted
organs on individual patients undermines the procedure s

A Presentation Of The National Nanotechnology Initiative (...
1. Introduction.
There s plenty of room at the bottom ; this statement by Richard Feynman in 1959 during a
presentation to a meeting of the American Physical Society, is widely accepted as the spark that
initiated the present nano age1. Nano, dwarf in Greek, is defined as one billionth, it follows that
the nanoscale is measured in nanometres, or 10 9 m. To put this in perspective; the average strand
of a human hair is roughly 75,000 nm in diameter, or from the other extreme 1 nm is the length of
10 hydrogen atoms lined up end to end.
Nanotechnology can be difficult to define, as its definition is often engineered to suit the researcher
and their field; this resulted in a need of a general working definition, which the national
nanotechnology initiative (NNI) established []. Nanotechnology is thus defined as possessing the
following features;
Nanotechnology involves research and technology development at the 1 nm to 100 nm range.
Nanotechnology builds on the capability to organize or manipulate at the atomic scale.
Nanotechnology creates and uses structures that have novel properties because of their small size.
.
2. Nanotechnology
Nanoscience involves a study of nanotechnology and nanomaterials, of which at least one of the
dimensions is in 1 100 nm range. Over the past two decades, nanomaterials have been a topic of
both scientific and technological interest2. Due to their compact dimension and enlarged surface
area, these materials possess new physical and

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Using Network...
Abstract
In recent times to keep up the network security is a foremost and the network is hacked by the
unofficial persons. There are various strategies to extend the safety similar to encryption and
firewall. However these strategies are failed to detect the intrusions. For that a new technology is
Intrusion detection system. The Intrusion detection is the problem of identifying unauthorized use,
misuse and abuse of computer systems. Outside attackers are not only the problem, the threat of
authorized users misusing and abusing their privileges is an equally pressing concern. The intrusion
detection system used data mining strategies for the network safety, as a result of to guard the
network from numerous assaults and malicious site visitors ... Show more content on

2) Most of the advantages of network based Intrusion detection system don t apply to small segment
of network i.e. switch based network. Monitoring range of switches are not universal, this limits the
network based Intrusion detection system monitoring range to single host.
3) Some network based Intrusion detection system have also problem in dealing with network
based attacks which involve the packet fragmentation. This anomalously fashioned packet triggers
the Intrusion detection system to change into unstable and crash. [3].
B.Host based System
A host based Intrusion detection system monitors activities associated with a particular host [6] and
aimed at collecting information about activity on a host system or within an individual computer
system. In host based Intrusion detection system separate sensors would be needed for an
individual computer system. Sensor monitors the event takes place on the system. Sensors collect
the data from system logs, logs generated by operating system processes, application activity, file
access and modification. These log file can be simple text file or operation on a system.

Improving Decision Tree Performance Methods
There are several improvement methods are available to improve decision tree performance in
terms of accuracy, and modelling time. Since experimenting with every available method is
impossible, some of the methods are selected that are proven to increase decision tree performances.
Selected improvement methods and their experimental setups are presented in this chapter.
4.1 Correlation Based Feature Selection
Feature selection is a method used for reducing number of dimensions of a dataset by removing
irrelevant and redundant attributes. Given a set of attributes F and a target class C, goal of feature
selection is to find a minimum set of F that will yield highest accuracy (for C) for the classification
task. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, method is performing well for C4.5 algorithm is likely to perform well for ID3 algorithm.
Previous studies show that CFS method increases accuracy for CART algorithm although not as
much as the C4.5 algorithm does (Doraisamy et al., 2008).
CFS uses a search algorithm and feature evaluation algorithm which uses a heuristic that measures
goodness of attributes subsets. Hall and Smith (1998) define this goodness heuristic as Good
feature subsets contain features highly correlated with the class, yet uncorrelated with each other.
Equation 1 below shows heuristic formula. G_x=(kВЇ(r_ci ))/в€
љ(k+k(k 1)ВЇ(r_ii ))
Where G_x is the heuristic of goodness of an attribute subset x that contains k features, ВЇ(r_ci ) is
average attribute class correlation which points predictive power of the attribute subset to a class,
and ВЇ(r_ii ) is average attribute inter correlation that indicates the redundancy among attributes.
A version of correlation based attribute selection to be included in experiment setup is called Fast
Correlation Based Feature Selection (FCBF) that initially developed by Yu and Liu (2004). This
algorithm is preferred over other available correlation based attribute selection algorithms since
while other implementations of CFS using forward sequential or greedy search methods (e.g.

Reflection About Art
I have never been into art or liked the arts for that matter, I cannot draw to save my life and being
creative with art brings my imagination to a halt. When I saw this project, I wasn t sure what I
would use to help make the art, most people I saw were using metals, but I wanted to do something
different and that made me nervous. But I had an even harder time figuring out what I wanted to
create. I had about a million ideas in my head, but had an extremely hard time looking at things that
I found and picturing them all together becoming a sculpture.
I started out with sticks and paper garbage that I had found around my home and the places where
I walk my dogs. I didn t know what I wanted to do with them, but I felt like they were the material
I wanted to use. After I had gathered enough sticks and pieces of paper that I found on the ground
I sat down and tried to brainstorm what I could make. I came up with the idea of getting the sticks
together in a ball and gluing the trash paper on to create the look of the continents and the sticks be
a globe. I figured out very fast that the sticks would not hold together, even after I soaked them in
water. I ditched that idea and moved on to a new one.
I still had all the garbage that I found and figured I could make good use of that. After ditching
the sticks (not on the ground I put them in my green trash can so they could be picked up and
disposed of properly) I focused on the paper materials that I had picked up. I thought

Expectancy Violations
An expectancy is something that one predicts is going to happen whether or not this is the
favorable outcome is according to Griffin (2012.) When someone else violates an expectancy, a
reaction is to follow even if the violated expectancy is a good thing. Sometimes the response to
the violation is no reaction which in a way is its own reaction. Other times, the reaction can be an
entirely new perspective on someone. The violation I preformed was before my Women s Studies
class last Thursday. I walked into Founder s Hall and saw a hallway with four small couches lined
up equidistant from each other with a total length about 30 feet between the first and last couch.
There was a male student sitting on the furthest away couch; he was the only

El NiГ±o Vs La NiГ±a
El NiГ±o and La NiГ±a are opposite effects of the same phenomenon. They both cause changes
in the temperatures between the atmosphere and the Pacific region. El NiГ±o is caused by a
change in the wind patterns. The Pacific trade winds go from east to west and the warm ocean
water go the opposite direction. Normally the two forces creates a balance in the middle. When
the Pacific trade winds are weaker than usual, the warm ocean water rushes to the east and
collides with the the west coast of the coastal cities at the east of the Pacific. This causes the
average ocean temperature to be much warmer. La NiГ±a is effectively the opposite of El NiГ±o.

Analysis Of Alice Munro s How I Met My Husband
How I Met My Husband by Alice Munro is a short story about Edie, a fifteenth year old girl, who
works at Dr. Peebles and Mrs.Peebles house taking care of their children, cleaning the house,
preparing the vegetables and occasionally baking desserts. One day they heard a plane pass by, and
they ran into the yard to look. Their neighbor Loretta Bird mentioned that the planewas close to
hitting their house and began to talk about the plane. She also specified that the pilot received
permission to use the fairgrounds and give residents rides to see the neighborhood from above.
The next day when Edie finished her tasks early, she sometimes would look at Mrs. Peebles
clothes and even tried on a dressand put makeup on. She headed to the kitchen to drink ginger ale
and gets startled by a man, named Chris Watters, standing outside the door. He mentions he s the
pilot of the plane and asks if he can obtain some water from the pump. He complimented and
thanked her and left to the pump. After she rushed to take off the dress and wash her face before
Mrs. Peebles arrived to the house. Mrs. Peebles commenced to ask questions about the man, but
Edie contemplated on becoming fired if the man revealed how she dressed. After the Dr. and Mrs.
Peebles departed to the theater, Edie ensured the children were sleeping then headed outside. She
desired to talk to Chris to make sure he wouldn t say anything about her dressed up. He assured he

Ancient Chinese Compass And Its Effects On Civilization
Ancient Chinese Compass and its Effects on Civilization
The Chinese culture is up to 5000 years old. Approximately 56 different ethnic groups live in
China. Buddhism is by far the largest religion in China, significantly impacting their culture.
Buddhism brought with it a whole new array of beliefs, such as a very detailed description of
heaven and hell, the belief in reincarnation, and the idea of karma. Those three things made their
way into the Chinese culture. A set of beliefs, called Confucianism, became social law in China
around 400 B.C.E ( Chinese Culture, Tradition, and Customs. ). Up until 1450 C.E., China was
more technologically advanced than any other country in the world, beating out Europe and the
Islamic territories. The Chinese invented hundreds of items, but papermaking, cast iron, canal locks,
gunpowder, kites, silk, and the compass are some of the most prominent (Diamond 242 243).
However, the compass was the most important technological advancement in ancient Chinese
civilization, because it opened up opportunities for exploration and promoted the advancement of
civilization as a whole. For over a thousand years, China was the most technologically advanced
civilization. China could boast inventions and/or improvements to many other items, including
paper, bronze items, gunpowder, and silk. Papermaking was developed in China around 105 C.E.,
and required a long and complicated process to make it. To make paper, you needed to put hemp
paste in

  • 2. The Tragic Heroes Of Hamlet And Oedipus The Tragic Heroes Hamlet and Oedipus A hero in a drama is the focus point throughout the story, someone who technically saves life s and carries pride within them. In Hamlet by Shakespeare and Oedipus Rex by Sophocles they simply create a tragic hero due to their stories having a twist in what a hero turns out to be at the end of the dramatic stories. They have similar issues as well as they have their differences in their stories. Shakespeare and Sophocles create a similar touch to their dramatic heroes, and not only do they write those type of stories but they also create different characteristics to them and defining them in other ways that can be entertaining. Even though in both Hamlet, and Oedipus contain tragic endings, both main characters were viewed as heroes at one point in the story, however the authors did not create a same character each main character has their own characteristics and each author had their way of writing a drama. Shakespeare and Sophocles wrote different things and as well as Shakespeare is known for his poems, he is also known for his dramatic stories with a tragic ending. Hamlet, the son of a king, happens to lose his father while in a short amount of time his mother marries his uncle, the brother of the king of Denmark. While Hamlet is trying to figure out everything, the ghost of his father happens to appear, and it tells him that his uncle the current king of Denmark is the one that caused his death. In The Nation Faces a Moral Crisis in Regard to Race , John F. Kennedy inspires his intended audience during the Civil Rights Movement by using the rhetorical devices of tone and repetition. Kennedy advocates greater civil rights for African Americans. Because of increasing violence and chaos between whites and blacks, Kennedy felt the need to address the nation concerning racism. • 7. Australopithecus Afarensis In recent years, anthropologists have made incredible work in discovering all the different kinds of human species. The discovery of a certain human species, the Australopithecus Afarensis, was mostly credited to the finding of a single individual, AL 288 1, or Lucy. She has helped anthropologists to understand the diet, anatomy, environment, sexual dimorphism, the technology or tools used during their time, and bipedalism of this early hominin. The evolution of humans is interesting due to the questions we are trying to find and the answers we might never find. • 8. Personality, Psychology, And Humanistic Approach Personality in a Nutshell Personality is looked at everyday purposely and accidently. Whether you are judging how your new professor for the semester will be, or if you are studying your best friend for a project, personality is studied abundantly. While there are many ways to define personality, there is not a worldwide definition around. Personality is the unique combination of patterns that influence behavior, thought, motivation, and emotion in a human being (boundless.com). That is one of many ways of defining personality. When examining personality, there are four main approachable theories including: The Psychodynamic Approach, The Trait Approach, The Social Cognitive Approach, and The Humanistic Approach. The Psychodynamic Approach was first approach by Sigmund Freud; he dealt with the understanding that personality came from our unconscious state of mind. And that unconscious state interacted to determine our thoughts, behaviors, and feelings (Bernstein, 425). Freud also created the psychoanalytical theory stating that personality led the way to handling psychological disorders. He divided personality into three main topics; which are the id, the ego, and the superego. The id is the basis of each human being s instincts we are all born with. It is the immediate wants I crave; it may show more selfish side. The ego is the part that subdues the id and calms it down. It allows me to think and realize certain actions may upset someone else around me. The superego is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union The European Union s role in the international sphere, as well as the aim to improve its external actions, have been considered to be the two most important features of the Lisbon Treaty. Within the Lisbon Treaty, the combination of the provisions on mutual assistance and solidarity created new pressures on member states to assist one another in cases of armed attacks, disasters being it natural or man made and crisis on EU territory. The Lisbon Treaty brought about many changes within the structure of the European Union. One particular change was that the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) was to be replaced by the Common and Security Defence Policy (CSDP). The Member States have an obligation to provide aid and assistance to any state that becomes a victim of an armed attack. The Treaty on the European Union specifically states that the alliance obliges the Member States to implement mutual assistance. Article 222 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union also speaks of the Mutual Assistance Clause. It argues that if there had to be an armed attack on one of the EU Member States, it is ideal to use the Mutual Assistance Clause in situations other than the ones mentioned under Article 42(7). Article 222 TFEU tends to widen the scope of the clause. THE MUTUAL SOLIDARITY CLAUSE The Solidarity Clause has not been given much attention since the establishment of the Lisbon Treaty and is often confused with the Mutual Assistance Clause found under article 42(7) TEU. The lack of attention can be quite understandable due to the fact that the Lisbon Treaty was full of headline goals and aspirations, which took the focus off single paged provisions. The Mutual Solidarity Clause is found in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union under Article 222. Article 222 TFEU, compliments the Assistance Clause by not only widening its scope but also in its tasks. Moreover, Article 222 TFEU is a one page provision which creates one of the most important demands on the EU Member States to act in a jointly manner and assist one another in case any of the Member ... I sighed, wishing there was something exciting to do. My mother told me that I should go outside and play, but I had already played at our playground what seemed like a million times already. The playground was only ten yards away from our small 800 square foot apartment, in the heart of Omaha, Nebraska. This was a convenience to some kids, but to me it was aggravating. The sound of rushing water hitting the rocks was soothing. You could see giant bullfrogs peering their heads up and out of the water, as still as could be. • 18. United States Logic Behind Multilateral Peace Building... What causes two groups from the same nation to engage in a bloody and lengthy civil war? Although greed and grievances are commonplace explanations, they alone cannot account for the duration and recurrence of intrastate war over the last half century. To properly understand this phenomenon, one must perceive the cause of domestic armed conflict as an instance of bargaining failure. While all three proximate causes of bargaining failure in civil warare exactly the same as those in international war, their situations are distinguished by the fact that the cause of a civil wars persistence is the same as it s initiation. I will argue that problems with credible commitment are the most profound obstacle in the resolution of civil conflict and are largely responsible for their recurrence and duration. In support, this essay will discuss the logic behind multilateral peace building strategies such as the utilization of peacekeeping forces and third party guarantees of ceasefire agreements. When conflict arises between independent states, multinational peacekeeping organizations such as the UN can impose extensive economic sanctions and deploy their military forces in order to end a war by vastly increasing its costs. Regulated by an international police force, states are more inclined to accept peace, bargain with their enemies, and stay loyal to their word. This is not the case with domestic disputes. The themes such as sexual coercion, sex for sale, and gnder roles, are expressed throughout the film. The sexual coercion of Linda Boreman by Chuck Traynor is what set in motion the events of Linda s ordeal. Until the end of Linda and Chuck s marriage, Linda was forced into preforming sexual acts on Chuck Traynor through implied threats as well as physical abuse, thus experiencing acquaintance rape. Chuck s person being one who conform to traditional gender roles, particularly one of male dominance, is what Our Sexuality infers from research done by Hartwick et al., 2005, as more likely to commit rape. However, during the time of Linda s experiences, it was culturally accepted that wives obeyed their husbands.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chuck Traynor behavior reads as that of the North American stereotype addressed in Our Sexuality; he comes across as independent and aggressive, while Linda is expected to be submissive to Chuck, as aforementioned in the text. The spine of this story is the DACA students and their allies quest for help from the University of Michigan administration and their desparate rally against the potential deportation of hundreds of thousands of immigrants. The central tension lies here, between the administration, which has only voiced its support of DACA recipients but has done nothing, and the portion of the faculty and student body rallying to support their peers, loved ones, and thousands of others aided by DACA. This film also will employ the Performative Documentary Mode as it will address the audience emotionally and expressively, using interviews to attempt to draw the viewer into alignment with the film s subjective ideology, which is that DACA defendants are doing important work on campus with real concrete effects on fellow students and faculty, who are threatened by the repeal of DACA and that ending DACA is a dangerous political move for all ... In doing so she addresses many additional issues. Identify three specific themes that Allende raises in Eva Luna. Give specific examples from the text of how each of these themes are raised by characters and/or events in the novel. In other words, how does Allende present these themes? What is the position she takes and the message she intends to communicate? The themes of destiny and self determination have great company in the Isabel Allende s novel, Eva Luna. Additional themes of gender imbalance, fortitude, and power vs. poverty exist. Specific ways in which Allende raises the theme of gender imbalance or gender inequality, is through Eva herself. By definition, gender inequality refers to the idea and situation that women and men are not equal. Eva Luna, narrated from Eva s first person point of view, goes into vivid detail about her mother s beginnings, and her fate of being born female, in which case the missionaries who found her just covered her shame (Allende 2) with a diaper. This is the very first instance of gender inequality. As Consuelo grew up, the only skills she was taught was how to work as a housekeeper. She was not even allowed to attend a Carlow Gardel movie until a more progressive government promised to bring the nation into the 20th century. The Closing the gap policy offers unrealistic targets that fails to respond to contextually specific needs of individuals or communities and is imbued with continuing assimilationist undercurrents. Accepting this critique enables the policy to be viewed as failing to serve the interests or needs of many Indigenous students; indeed, the policy can arguably be viewed as politically motivated by White interests. (Vass, 2013, p.90) The data indicates that there is still a necessity to teach Indigenous students the skills for NAPLAN, however, the results of NAPLAN at the national benchmark is still different between Indigenous and Non Indigenous students. Any legislator who would propose a bill seeking to establish a state income tax would be seriously questioned, because a state income tax is currently unconstitutional. The Texas Constitution was amended in 1993, during Governor William P. Clements second administration, to prohibit a state income tax. Therefore, any such proposal would have serious difficulties passing both chambers of the legislature and then it would be subject to ratification through a statewide referendum. If the income tax cut the property tax rate by 65%, then it would also cut the tax cap by 65%. Children Should Not Receive Scheduled Vaccinations Children are a vulnerable group within a population with respect to diseases, which then increases their susceptibility to various illnesses, as adults generally have a stronger immune system as compared to children. Steens, Beasley, Tsui, and Lee (1975) argued that children are more prone to be a carrier of diseases than adults (as cited in Anderson and May, 1985). With that being said, the focus remains on vaccinating children as the majority are in school for a great amount of time where they are in proximity of one another, the continuous sharing of items, and are usually inconsistent with hand hygiene. Under those circumstances, Anderson and May (1985) found that in children aged 5 15 infection rates would increase as a result of close contact within schools. Children who do not receive scheduled vaccinations put themselves, as well as others at risk for vaccinepreventable diseases, as infants who are too young of age to receive vaccines, children, elderly, and community members who have compromised immune systems most vulnerable to acquiring vaccine preventable diseases. Omer, Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey (2009) argued that outbreaks of diseases regularly begins with individuals who refuse vaccinations, as it spreads within communities and other populations. • 28. Fossil Fuels And Renewable Energy Essay Finding energy sources is an issue that polarizes scientists, politicians and citizens alike. The most critical points of this debate are at fossil fuels and renewable energy. Energy efficiency is arguably the most dire concern facing the planet, because it significantly impacts all areas of everyday life. Common ground can be found in this controversy because both parties do agree that humans have a responsibility to future generations. That responsibility is to preserve the resources of the Earth, while offering this generation energy that is affordable and accessible. Many people contend that fossil fuels, while being the most cost effective source of energy, have detrimental effects on the environment. Others argue that fossil fuels have little negative environmental impact and that producing alternative energy is too economically prohibitive to be feasible. In 2010, the Gallup Poll conducted a national poll that found half of the Americans surveyed favored expanding energy production via fossil fuels even if it harms the environment. This was the case in nearly every major demographic subgroup, although self identified liberals remained constant in supporting environmental protection as the higher priority (McDermott). Of these two types of energy production, fossil fuels like oil, gas, and coal make up about ninety percent of the world s energy usage. Nuclear power takes up five percent of this equation, with the remaining renewable energy resources splitting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Birds, viewers find themselves unable to identify the purpose or the cause for the birds attacks. Hitchcock does not want us to know the answers either, since Hitchcock marvels at his ability to make viewers question his films and struggle at truly enjoying without fully understanding them. Although this essay cannot find a cause for the attacks in the town or to the characters that seem to be innocent like the children and the old man in the farm, it should shed some light on the correlation between the timing of the attacks near the Brenner family and Melanie and their internal struggle. The symbolism of the caged birds versus the free birds, the Jocasta complex Lydia struggles with, and the imagery of the light versus darkness when the birds attackrepresent the journey Mitch and Melanie face in trying to be together. First we must make the distinction between caged and free birds. The caged birds signify a well mannered, tamed, and socially acceptable human being while the free birds, or rather the birds that attack, have the liberty to act in opposition to the caged ones. In the beginning scene, after Melanie s attempt to impress Mitch, Mitch salvages the bird she mistakenly let escape and as he puts it back in its cage says, Back in your gilded cage Melanie Daniels . • 33. Advantages Of African American Freedom Freedom is the power to determine action without restraint, and it is the foundation of our lives today. Every race has the freedom to vote, go to whichever school they choose, take place in office, sit in any sector of the bus, etc. Around the 1860 s, Northern African Americans had freedom, but unlike today, their freedom was restricted. In 1850, before the beginning of the civil war, the population census concluded that fourteen percent of the population was African American. By 1860, 476,000 of them were free from slavery, but only 221,000 lived in the North. After winning the Revolutionary war the Northern states gradually began to end slavery and it was officially abolished in 1842. With all factors in mind, the question of just how free blacks were in the North still lingers in the air. Blacks in the North were only somewhat free in the years just before the civil war because they endured restrictions in social, political, and educational areas of society. To begin with, northern blacks were only somewhat free because they still had to encounter segregation, discrimination, and prejudice in their social freedom. Although they were free to live, they had to use restrooms, public areas, schools, etc. that were specifically assigned to their race. An English Visitor, Charles Mackay, defined his travels by stating, he shall not be free to dine and drink at our board...to attend us at the bed of sickness and pain to mingle with us in the concert room, the lecture room, the theatre, or the church, (document B). African Americans were not given the opportunity to associate with anyone of the white race, nor were they allowed to be in the same location as them. Since the white race was considered the superior race , and were heavily discriminant towards the black race, their segregated public facilities were a lot nicer than those of african americans. Also, prejudice made it harder for black people to attain jobs. In a graduation speech made by an african american, he proclaimed white boys won t work with me. Shall I be a merchant? With the identifying the factors contributing to gun violence, community organizers have come up with strategies that are specifically related to them. The main priority is to completely remove guns from the streets of New Haven. Right now, there are two gunbuy back programs in New Haven that are lead by Yale New haven Hospital and the New Haven Police Department (City Wide). The purpose of this program is for people to turn in un registered guns and receive money in return. Some argue that the gun buy back program does not prevent gun violence because they are taking guns from law abiding citizens who would never use them in a crimeand do not reach those who are likely to use them in a crime (Cameron). In New Haven, guns in the streets travel from people to people and at some point, it can fall into the hands of a person who is anticipating on shooting someone. That is all that it takes. If you re just hoping to keep the sun from beating up your car s paint job all day, a covered carport is probably all you need. What is a carport? A carport is a small structure usually used to protect cars from the outside elements. The structure can be attached to a wall or free standing. Carports more often than not are open to both sides. However, one can also find those that are partially or completely closed. Carports usually come in three types: single, double and triple carports. The type of design will depend on the number of vehicles one wants to store. If a person has two or three vehicles, he or she can go for triple or double structures. The structure can be installed on a paved surface, level ground, stem wall or even concrete slab. Sometime during the year of 1028, he was born in Falaise, France to Arlette (also known as Herleva), a tanner s daughter, and Robert I, the Duke of Normandy. As an illegitimate son of his father, he was known as William the Bastard among his enemies and critics. He eventually rose to power through his conquest of England, and all throughout history his descendants held the English throne. William the Conquerormarried Matilda of Flanders as an assurance of an alliance, and they had 4 sons, one of which died at an early age. He was also able to persuade the Pope to back him, because the Pope was outraged that Harold had sworn on his precious holy relics and didn t keep his word. With the power of holy influence and 700 ships, William set sail towards England to claim back what was rightfully his. Fortunately for the enraged Duke, England was already occupied fighting Tostig and another Harold, a Norwegian duke, who wanted the throne as well. Nevertheless, King Harold was able to meet William s troops in a final battle which would eventually be known as the Battle of Hastings. In September 1066, the Normans (France) and the Anglo Saxons (England) finally met and charged into battle. Due to the inefficiency of warfare during this era, none of the soldiers could see their leaders, who were feared dead on multiple occasions. Duke William finally turned the tide of battle by yelling out and rallying his troops, and the battle was won when King Harold was shot in the eye. • 41. Dna Is A Polymer Of Nucleotides DNA is a polymer of nucleotides, each consisting of three components. These components include a nitrogenous base, a deoxyribose sugar and a phosphate group. The hydrophobic nitrogenous bases are in the DNA molecules interior with the negatively charged phosphate groups on the outside. Strong covalent bonds link each unit of the nucleotide together. Between the stacked pairs Van der Waals interactions play an important role in holding the molecule together. There are four different bases called adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine. Adenine bonds with thymine and cytosine bonds with guanine through weak hydrogen bonds. The number of bonds between the pairs differs however with adenine forming two hydrogen bonds with thymine and cytosine forming three with guanine. Adenine and guanine are nitrogenous bases with two organic rings and are purines. Cytosine and thymine are pyrimidines with single organic rings. The backbone of the DNA molecule is formed as the phosphate group of one nucleotide is attached the sugar of the next. The DNA molecule is made up of two strands and these strands wind together to form a double helix. There are ten base pairs per turn of the double helix. The strands are antiparallel and the polynucleotide strand has directionality from 5 end to the 3 end. LINK DNA Replication LINK. Replication of DNA is initiated by proteins that recognise a specific sequence of nucleotides from short stretches of DNA at sites called origins of replication. They ... Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) Important Reminders When Getting Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy [PART I] Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) also known as natural hormone therapy works when Bioidentical hormones act in the body just like the hormones we produce. It is primarily used to reduce the symptoms of menopause. Today, it is also used for clinical testing of blood and saliva, for anti aging purposes, and overall improving the quality of life for women who have symptoms of menopause. Bioidentical hormones have the exact molecular structure of those endogenous or natural hormones in a person s body and produce the same physiochemical responses. However, only a few women understand the importance of bioidentical hormones because they are mostly focused on the source of the hormones rather than the effects produced. Yes, we understand that you do not want them to leave the building. But BHRT is for people who have the hormone deficiency. The typical assumption of the conventional medicine is that women after menopause become deficient with estrogen; however, this assumption is false. However, all credible experts agree that over 66% of women ages 80 and up still continue to make all the estrogen they need. Ever since the discovery of fire, less than desirable substances have been vented into the air. One of the first air pollution regulations dates back to the fourteenth century, when King Edward I banned the burning of sea coal in lime kilns. U.S. air pollution regulations have their roots in British Common Law. But regardless of those efforts, air pollution continues to be a serious local and world wide problem. Over 100 million animals are killed in the laboratories annually, and they are physically and psychologically traumatised by experimentation (PETA, 2017; Live Science, 2017). However, the reality is that majority of animal experiments are unreliable. Most of their sacrifices do not contribute to improving human health as the medical treatments developed in animals rarely translate to human benefits due to the differing complexities between experimental animals and humans (PETA, 2017; Live Science, 2017). Xenotransplantation is the procedure involving the transplantation of living cells, tissues or organs from one species to another, particularly from animal to human (NHMRC, 2017). The most widely studied animal species for xenotransplantation are pigs. Animals are genetically engineered to produce human cells or substrates, which are used to incubate human organs (Vermeulen et al., 2017). However, the ethical implications of such applications are debatable. Since most of the animals involved in transplantation are genetically engineered (transgenic animals), xenotransplantation is viewed by many as an unnatural and inappropriate interference in nature (Manesh et al. 2014). Besides the deontological arguments, the consequences and complications of transplantation process lead to ethical issues. There s plenty of room at the bottom ; this statement by Richard Feynman in 1959 during a presentation to a meeting of the American Physical Society, is widely accepted as the spark that initiated the present nano age1. Nano, dwarf in Greek, is defined as one billionth, it follows that the nanoscale is measured in nanometres, or 10 9 m. To put this in perspective; the average strand of a human hair is roughly 75,000 nm in diameter, or from the other extreme 1 nm is the length of 10 hydrogen atoms lined up end to end. Nanotechnology can be difficult to define, as its definition is often engineered to suit the researcher and their field; this resulted in a need of a general working definition, which the national nanotechnology initiative (NNI) established []. Nanotechnology is thus defined as possessing the following features; Nanotechnology involves research and technology development at the 1 nm to 100 nm range. Nanotechnology builds on the capability to organize or manipulate at the atomic scale. Nanotechnology creates and uses structures that have novel properties because of their small size. . 2. Nanotechnology Nanoscience involves a study of nanotechnology and nanomaterials, of which at least one of the dimensions is in 1 100 nm range. Since experimenting with every available method is impossible, some of the methods are selected that are proven to increase decision tree performances. Selected improvement methods and their experimental setups are presented in this chapter. 4.1 Correlation Based Feature Selection Feature selection is a method used for reducing number of dimensions of a dataset by removing irrelevant and redundant attributes. Previous studies show that CFS method increases accuracy for CART algorithm although not as much as the C4.5 algorithm does (Doraisamy et al., 2008). CFS uses a search algorithm and feature evaluation algorithm which uses a heuristic that measures goodness of attributes subsets. Hall and Smith (1998) define this goodness heuristic as Good feature subsets contain features highly correlated with the class, yet uncorrelated with each other. Equation 1 below shows heuristic formula. G_x=(kВЇ(r_ci ))/в€ љ(k+k(k 1)ВЇ(r_ii )) Where G_x is the heuristic of goodness of an attribute subset x that contains k features, ВЇ(r_ci ) is average attribute class correlation which points predictive power of the attribute subset to a class, and ВЇ(r_ii ) is average attribute inter correlation that indicates the redundancy among attributes. A version of correlation based attribute selection to be included in experiment setup is called Fast Correlation Based Feature Selection (FCBF) that initially developed by Yu and Liu (2004). This algorithm is preferred over other available correlation based attribute selection algorithms since while other implementations of CFS using forward sequential or greedy search methods (e.g. MRMR/CFS developed by Schoewe, ... When I saw this project, I wasn t sure what I would use to help make the art, most people I saw were using metals, but I wanted to do something different and that made me nervous. But I had an even harder time figuring out what I wanted to create. After I had gathered enough sticks and pieces of paper that I found on the ground I sat down and tried to brainstorm what I could make. I came up with the idea of getting the sticks together in a ball and gluing the trash paper on to create the look of the continents and the sticks be a globe. I figured out very fast that the sticks would not hold together, even after I soaked them in water. I ditched that idea and moved on to a new one. I still had all the garbage that I found and figured I could make good use of that. Approximately 56 different ethnic groups live in China. Buddhism is by far the largest religion in China, significantly impacting their culture. Buddhism brought with it a whole new array of beliefs, such as a very detailed description of heaven and hell, the belief in reincarnation, and the idea of karma. Those three things made their way into the Chinese culture. A set of beliefs, called Confucianism, became social law in China around 400 B.C.E ( Chinese Culture, Tradition, and Customs. ).
