Analysis Of Physiotherapy Assessment Of A Young Boy ...
Introduction
Physiotherapy assessment involves forming hypotheses, and thus a diagnosis, by way of questioning,
observation and physical examination. It is a requirement of the Health and Care Professions Council
(HCPC) as stated in the Standards of Proficiency: Physiotherapists All details and information
recorded are highly confidential, so patient records must be maintained appropriately, and
confidentiality of these never breached (HCPC 2013).
In the following report, I will be discussing the hypothetical assessment of a young boy Miguel , who
suffered a supracondylar fracture. As he is under 16, he will be accompanied by a parent/guardian who
may possibly contribute to the assessment process. Consent should also be given prior to assessment.
Subjective Assessment History Taking
This subjective assessment forms a series of questions posed to the patient relating to their present
condition/problem (Farr 2014a). Important factors that must be taken into consideration prior to
treatment, such as patient preferences, contraindications, contributing factors, medication, family
medical history, other medical conditions and previous medical investigations, are ascertained during
this history taking .
The subjective assessment consists of Presenting Condition (PC), History of Presenting Condition
(HPC), Past Medical History (PMH), Social History (SH) and Drug History (DH) (Forrester Gale
2014a).
During the PC, it is important that Miguel s pain is documented. This

Conflict Theory Of Family
Introduction: The family is displaying the conflict theory. Conflict theory is explained to be the
differences between classes within society and competition for scarce resources. Conflicts arise when
resources, status, and power are unevenly distributed between groups in society. These conflicts can
be so intense, that it become to the reason for social change. The theory recognizes that power is the
core of all social relationships. In addition, these interest groups fight to gain advantages over others.
One of the basic assumptions to this theory is, the nature of humans is that they are self oriented. In
addition, conflict theorist believe that humans have unlimited potential of hope, which they have
unlimited potential to desire power, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Book Thief Good Vs Evil
Henry David Thoreau once said, Justice is sweet and musical; but injustice is harsh and discordant.
Whenever there are complications and divided opinions in the world, nobody is at rest; because of
rallies, protests, fights, and angry mobs. But when justice is achieved, people can relax, even if for the
smallest amount of time. Thus, to reach times of joy and happiness, people need to overcome evil
through strong efforts as a whole; but, defeating evil takes more than just rallying together. There are
many obstacles along the path of achieving justice, that forestall the good men s endeavors. Some
argue that the key to evil s success is either for good men to do nothing, or for evil to fight stronger.
Edmund Burke, a political theorist, believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in The Book Thief, Jewish prisoners are led down Munich Street as the German people
watch them silently. But an outlier, Hans Hubermann, sees the starved prisoners and presents a piece
of bread, to a Jewish man (Zusak 394). Hans gives hope to the prisoner that there are still people out
there, willing to help others out. He makes the man feel like a human, alive and thankful again.
However, Hans kindness comes to a halt when he is brutally whipped on the street by a German
soldier (Zusak 394). Even when Hans attempts to be a good samaritan, his plans are crushed by the
authority of the Nazis. Additionally, Hans later on regrets his decision to help the Jewish man, and
worries that Max will be taken away by the Nazis; so he sends Max away, to escape. When Hans acts,
he does not solve injustice he only worsens it, by putting Max and his family in possible danger.
Therefore, good men ultimately do not reach complete justice, because some things are out of their
control. According to an article called Remembering Selma s Bloody Sunday , Martin Luther King
and a group of peaceful protesters for black voting rights marched from Selma to Montgomery. When
they arrived, they were stopped by Alabama state troopers, who then knocked the marchers to the
ground...struck them with sticks...and chased them back over the bridge (Klein). The brutal beatings
from the troopers ended their rallies, leaving them unable to fight at that moment. Their attempts to
make change would have succeeded if it were not for the uncontrollable force of the police. Similarly,
in an article called Freedom Summer , black Mississippians and few white volunteers came together to
peacefully protest black voting rights. Before the Freedom Summer movement, less than seven
percent of the state s eligible black voters were registered to

Deaf Perceptions Of The Deaf
Deaf Perceptions of Animacy
Deaf culture has long been misunderstood and misrepresented within America, in part due to the
significant language barrier between the American Deaf and their hearing counterparts. Though it is
often thought to be nothing more than an elevated form of charades, American Sign Language (ASL)
is a language like any other not only with its own grammatical syntax, phonology, and morphology,
but also in its compliance to the Sapir Whorf hypothesis. Created by Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee
Whorf, the hypothesis exists in two degrees: weak and strong. The former claims that language shapes
our thoughts, and thus our culture, while the latter version claims that language not only shapes our
thoughts and our culture, it creates them. Though there is debate surrounding the degree to which the
hypothesis extends, it is undoubtable that it is applicable to Deaf culture and its use of ASL as a first
language in prelingually Deaf individuals. Using the Sapir Whorf hypothesis as its theoretical
framework, this research proposes to investigate how the absence of copular verbs within ASL shapes
Deaf perception of animacy and how such perceptions manifest within Deaf culture.
Language was long thought to be a passageway passagewayfor thought; a go between that allowed
one to translate their pre existing ideas into a communicable form via sounds, writing, and gesture
(Cultural Encounters). However, this understanding shifted upon the introduction of the Sapir Whorf

Artificial Selection Research Paper
Evolution is a real thing that happened and is still happening today, there is so much evidence to prove
it. We have the fossil record, we know how natural selection works and how and why it happens, and
we know how artificial selection works and that we use it all of the time today. There is just too much
evidence to call evolution just a theory.
The fossil record is the history of life, as documented by fossils. The fossil record can show us so
many things, from the history of how homosapiens evolved into what were are today to how whales
were once furry, four legged land animals. The fact that we share roughly 50 percent of our DNA with
a banana is pretty astounding, but if you were to follow our family tree back far enough, you would
find that every single one of us, human or not, share a common ancestor. Yes, it is pretty hard to
believe but it makes sense if you really think about it. If we have 98% of the same genes as
chimpanzees, 80% of similar genes as cows, and 60% of similar genes as a fruit ... Show more content

Have you ever wondered how we got different types of dogs or cats? Artificial selection! Around
27,000 40,000 years ago the hunter gatherers began to tame wolves to have as hunting companions.
The people would eventually begin to breed their wolves so that they would have certain traits like
hair length, color, size, sharpness of teeth, tail length, and just about everything in between. When
people realized that they could control how animals would look, they started experimenting to see
what all they could make. This is how artificial selection works. Humans discover that they can
change an animal s characteristics, they discover traits that make the animals more pleasing to people
(desired traits), and they use these traits to make animals that are best suited for whatever people want
and/or need them

The Cold War Era
Cold War The cold war started in 1945 and ended in 1989. It was a war between the United States and
the Soviet Union. This war took place right after WWII and it is called the cold war because there
were no real battles such as with tanks and bombs. The history on the United States in war is that
before the cold war the United States had fought in 24 battles and they won 17 of them. The strength
and the courage that the United States has when they go to war are unbelievable. Their win to loss
ratio on wars is so incredible and the weapons that they got to use weren t as accurate as todays
weapons are now. The United States and the Soviet Union both liked to make bombs. They both did
everything they could to perfect them and to train guys how to use them so they could use them for
military purposes. The cold war got started by the erection of the Berlin Wall which was used to stop
people from escaping the country. When the wall got put up the Americans started flying spy planes
and found out that Soviets had nuclear missiles capable of going off and heading straight for places in
the United States. When the United States found out about the missiles they got a navy Rhea 2
Blockade around Cuba so that the Soviets couldn t send war materials in and out. (Theodorous II)
During the middle of the cold war there was not really any one winning. The Americans and the
Soviet Union were just talking back and forth telling each other to put down their weapons and no

In 2007, the CIO had begun constructing the synthetic credit portfolio as a hedge against the
inherently long bias of the rest of the CIO portfolio. It was positioned to generate returns in an
environment where credit spreads were widening. This proved to be prudent as spreads widened

Neruda
The first half of Neruda s poem offers context to beauty within the structure. The choice of beautiful
content ultimately offers a stronger point in his protest since he explains what people expect him to
write.
The poem begins by questioning the reader, assuming that the reader would ask Neruda, where are the
lilacs?/ And the poppy petalled metaphysics?/ And the rain repeatedly spattering/ and drilling them
full/ of apertures and birds? Neruda decided to engage the reader by acknowledging the reader s need
for a typically beautiful poem. Due to the assumption, the first half of the poem describes the beautiful
land of Spain in the typicality of Neruda s writings. Neruda speaks mostly to the past in this beauty,

repeat of the statement is meant to be yelled, indicated by an explanation point. The sentence is read in
a shouting voice, finalizing the importance of the statement. The purpose of the poem shines through
the repeated statement as Neruda expects the reader to realize their ignorance. How could Neruda

Preventing Hearing Loss By Katherine Bouton
Hearing Loss We all take the power of hearing for granted. Some people are blessed to be able to hear
and some are unfortunately not able to hear. Wouldn t you miss conversations between you and other
people, sales at the mall, or hearing that one album that you love. We have to take care of ourselves so
we can keep our hearing ability or we will never be able to hear again. What should we know about
hearing loss? The main causes for hearing loss is head trauma and exposure to loud sound. The only
way we can take care of ourselves is by knowing how to.To prevent hearing loss we can turn down the
volume, use earplugs or remove ourselves from situations where noise is excessive. More Importantly,

In Conclusion, the only way to prevent hearing loss is by knowing how and taking charge right away.
Do not take hearing for granted because some people have the ability to hear and when hearing is

A Comparison Of I Am Legend And There Will Come Soft Rain
American journalist and author James Thurber once said, Man is flying too fast for a world that is
round. Soon he will catch up with himself in a great rear end collision. In both the film I Am
Legend(2007) and Ray Bradbury s The Martian Chronicles the world has come to an end due to the
destruction caused by mankind. In I Am Legend, Earth has been destroyed and mankind has been
wiped out to extinction by a deadly man made virus that was meant to cure cancer. Only one person is
immune to the virus and is alive; Robert Neville. Robert has to fight his way through the infected and
come up with a cure for the virus. The Martian Chronicles short story There Will Come Soft Rains

As shown in There Will Come Soft Rains , annihilations includes the obliteration of nature and our
surroundings. To convey this message to the readers, Ray Bradbury makes a strategic use of the
narrative elements: setting and figurative language. As the story begins, we learn that the house stood
alone in a city of rubble and ashes. This was the one house left standing. At night the ruined city gave
off a radioactive glow which could be seen for miles (Bradbury 167). From the start, we begin to see
that everything in the vicinity of a town on Earth is destroyed except this damaged house still
managing to function properly. Through the description of the setting, the readers start to get an idea
of what it would be like if the world is destroyed by a radioactive bomb. On top of the house already
been destroyed, we read that a falling tree bough crashed through the kitchen window. Cleaning
solvent, bottled, shattered over the stove. The room was ablaze in an instant! (Bradbury 170). This
instant clearly depicts the idea of the obliteration of nature and subsequently the obliteration of already
destroyed mankind due to hatred and

Challenges Facing Canadian Organizations
Canada. They are the world s largest producer of newsprint, nickel, and asbestos. Montreal, Toronto,

Even though Canada is a leader and a top competitor around the world in regards to business,
resources, talent, and innovation, there are still many challenges facing Canadian organizations. In this

Not only is there internet, many companies also have intranet, which are a private information
network within the company. The mix of telecommunicating and intranet increase communication and
information knowledge between members of an organization to also increase productivity. Automation
is the automatically controlled operation of a process, system, or equipment by mechanical or
electronic devices. The two major reasons for automation is speed and better service. In some capital
equipment items, Canada takes six to twelve months to make, where Japan takes six to twelve weeks.
(Schwind, 2010, p. 10) This is a major challenge that Canada must face. The service factor is
continuous. A machine is programed to do the same exact operation over and over to ensure quality
and effectiveness, where as a human might make an error on one or more areas of the operation.
Another challenge with technology and automation is cost. Machines are expensive and not all
companies can afford the high tech equipment, and therefore must rely on manual labour.
Demographic challenges include the changes associated with the labour force, such as education
levels, age, and participation levels which occur slowly and are usually known in advance. The
number of female workers in the workforce has greatly increased over the last three decades, and with
that so has the way organizations are ran. In the past the men worked and the women stayed home and

The Demon Lover And The Disturbing Lover
Marriage has been an important aspect of life for thousands of years. While the world has not always
married people formally, the link between a wife, her husband, and both their families has been a
significant part of history; however, things change. Many women cheat and have children that are not
their husbands . It has been a problem since Mesopotamian society; at least, that is as far back as
society can trace it. Ancient societies started making laws against the adultery of a woman and
punished them for cheating. While the laws have disappeared, adultery has still continued through
history. Both the The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen and the Scottish ballad The Daemon Lover
deliver messages in order to warn women to stay faithful to their partners, no matter the
circumstances. Bowen s The Demon Lover expresses a warning to women during times of war. The
story takes place at the beginning of World War 2 and tells the tale of a woman, Mrs. Drover, who
remarried after her fiance was presumed dead during his time in the war, but many years later,

couple going to hell and Bowen s story ends in the taxi speeding away without mercy, (arguably)
taking the taxi driver, the Devil, and Mrs. Drover to hell. Both stories varied in details. The number of
children changed and the story of the woman changes. The ballad is more straight to the point and
conveys the message quickly in contrast to The Demon Lover in which the story is more descriptive

The leader then commences to lead the audience in the pledge of allegiance and pray to God to keep

During the ceremony the power is extremely hierarchical and resembles Mauss sacrifice circle with

Analysis Of The Movie The Get Down Where Shaolin...
The Get Down establishes inherent norms over time, creating rules that viewers internalize as defining
the show s storytelling strategies. For example, how each episode starts off with Zeke s older self
rapping a recap of the prior episode in a front of full audience at Madison Square Garden in New
York. Being defined as a musical comedy and gritty prestige drama , if there was an episode in The
Get Down where Shaolin Fantastic is not spinning turntables, Zeke is not rapping, or Mylene isn t
singing, it surprises the audience. Episodes that violate these norms stand out by in violating fan
expectations. Because this is a common for the first half of the first season, viewers would expect
music and drama in the second half. To understand The Get Down in its narrative importance, viewers
must be operationally familiar to the show s storytelling norms and consider the importance of
individuality inside a formal narrative system, positing claims about how dysfunctional and dramatic
it was to be a teenager of color in the capitalism dominated society of New York. The Get Down tells
its stories by combining formal techniques of typical mainstream genre program, providing its
dedicated young minded fans an additional level of pleasure to be explored via the operational
aesthetic. According to Jaden Smith, when asked about the new Netflix show, he says: I mean I was

a gay teenager. Gay teenagers have all of the regular teenage issues that they have to go through and
then they have a little something extra to work out. Firstly, they can be trying to sort out if they are
indeed gay. If they are then they have to figure out how to come out to people and if it s safe for them
to do so. Will their parents reject them? It s a real possibility, unfortunately. How will their friends and
neighbors treat them? These are all questions that they have to wrestle with, and that s a lot for
anyone, let alone a teenager. This Dad s response after overhearing his son saying he wants to come
out is the response that every gay kid should receive. Meet Nate Nate is a teenager who is dating a boy
named Mike. We don t know too much about Nate, except that he s scared to come out to his parents
and that he s on the phone with Mike discussing this. He s worried about his parents response and
what he ll do if the conversation ends up going south. This is a fear that s all too real for most gay kids
and it shouldn t be. Kids should be loved because they re perfect just how they are. There s nothing
wrong with being gay. Nate s Dad reminds him of this with his perfect response via a written letter
that s since gone viral. ( removed HTML ) Dad s response Nate s Dad overhears part of Nate s
conversation with Mike and he knows that Nate wants to come out to him and his wife. He also knows
how anxious Nate is about the whole thing, as well as how afraid he is, so he writes Nate a note. His

2010/2011
REPORT
The Floundering Expatriate case study provides the right example of problems associated with the
global marketplace and when businesses and their leaders transcend physical and cultural boundaries
and they fail to adapt to cultural specifics. We consider that this report will allows making an analysis
that contains discussion on culture and communication issues along with globalization.
This case takes place in 1995 and talks about the events of a globalization effort by Argos

It is clear that Donaldson has a lack of cultural understanding and sensitivity , for us this means, he is
unaware of the cultural variables that can affect management decisions and he is not realizing how
much he is affecting Waterhouse projects, the company itself, other individual culture and his
leadership is also tainted and a number of sub issues become evident. At the same time Donaldson
never remember or realized that in every culture ( in this case the European) there are different sub
cultures and each one has different morals, goals, traditions, beliefs as well as different ways of doing
business and its expectations and they just conform only in varying degrees the national culture.
The communication problems caused for the context of the communication were also very important,
because the European staff from Argos was formed by people from different European countries and
in some of them it is considered to have the lowest ranking communication context, closely followed
by other European countries, this means that nothing is implied from the message, as everything will
be clearly detailed. So the higher up the context ranking you go the more information becomes
implicit and if Donaldson would have consider that the multiple choice survey wouldn t have been
inappropriate and Donaldson could have all the required info.
Communication is also an issue

Vietnam War Youth Culture Essay
Youth culture in the United States seems to change with every new fad and style, but the shift in youth
culture during the Vietnam War was something else entirely. Young adults were faced with startling
new things like being drafted into the military and facing violence on the homefront. Young people in
the United States, and soldiers stationed in Vietnam, tried to use drugs as an escape from the reality of
war and death. While the soldiers were fighting overseas, many young people faced their own battles
at home by protesting and and rallying. While looking back into the 1960s and 1970s, it is important
that we recognize the struggles and triumphs of the Vietnam War era youth.
To fully understand the changes of youth culture due to the Vietnam War, it is important to analyze the
United State s involvement in the war to begin with. The Vietnam War was an ongoing, violent
conflict between the Northern Vietnam communists called the Viet Cong and the democratic Southern
Vietnam (Kington, 2012). In the early 1950s, The United States began aiding South Vietnam with
funds and military training against the Viet Cong, over time the United States got more involved in
Vietnam. At one point in 1968, there were about 537,000 United States servicemen in Vietnam and it
was not until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

U.s. Dollar s World Reserve Status
Throughout the 20th century, the United States has slowly constructed a global system of control. Its
superior military, weaponry and intelligence apparatus have been crucial in this system, but an equally
important factor has been its control of the global economy, and its primary weapon, the U.S. Dollar.
The dollar s world reserve status alone does not make it unique, but its deeply rooted role in American
and global geo politics certainly does. As Vassili Fouskas and Bülent Gökay point out in their book
The New American Imperialism, Dollar hegemony has always been strategic to the future of American
global dominance, in many respects more important than America s overwhelming military power.
While military power is more visible and useful as a display, it is the dollar s role as reserve currency
that secures the domination of the U.S. in the global economic market place . [1] This system is built
on serious fault lines and its future is the most important issue for international relations today.
To understand how the dollar secures American hegemony requires some review of history. After the
Great Depression and World War II, the economic structures of the Old World powers were destroyed
and in dire need of reconstruction. Only America remained in one piece, a situation that allowed it to
decide how the new world order would work. As World War II was ending, representatives from the
Allied nations were gathered in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, where negotiations for this

Black Sun Character Analysis
The 2016 film Moonlight showcases a rare occurrence of a well rounded black father figure in the
character Juan. Moonlight is a film that centers around a young black man Chiron who is struggling to
find his place in the world. This essay will be a study of the character, Juan, who is not the biological
father of Chiron, yet he is the central father figure in Chiron s life. Black fatherhood in modern cinema
is filled with stereotypes and problematic notions. The black father archetype is usually either a non
existent dead beat dad, an over protective hypermasculine dad, or the abusive dad. These archetypes
leave no room for black men who fit into neither of these categories to thrive in modern cinema (as
well as other media outlets.) This is indeed harmful for the black men and young black boys in our
society, Although, with the release of Moonlight, it is sure that one day, a multitude of black father
figures will be able to be positively represented in the media. To conclude, the character of Juan
emcompasses many atributes that prove him to be a complex and intersectional representation of black
fatherhood. Rather than being a one dimensional or flat character, Juan emcompasses many character
traits. While the viewer s first impression of him is that he is a stereotypical, drug dealer in a poor
black community (he is never seen without a durag, he wears gold chains, a multitude of rings and
baggy jeans, and he drives a flashy car), as the film progresses, it is

A Context Dependent Memory Experiment Essay
The experiment is as follows; one hundred students, randomly selected, participated in a context
dependent memory experiment. twenty five were in each of the four following learn recall situations;
hot room hot room, hot room cold room, cold room cold room, cold room hot room. They were asked
to spend thirty minutes learning a list of thirty words. The next day they were asked to recall those
words in a fifteen minute time period. There are no results.
Context Dependent Memory in Environments with Hot and Cold Temperatures
Context dependent memory is the concept that things are often best recalled in the same environment
that they were learned. Smith and Vela (2001) provide four hypotheses as to how context dependent
memory works. They appear as follows; reinstatement is the idea that memory is better when testing
occurs in a reinstated environment as opposed to a different environment (Smith Vela, 2001) and this
is true across all studies (Smith Vela, 2001), outshining implies that non contextual cues when used for
guiding memory often diminish or eliminate the effects of contextual cues (Smith Vela, 2001),
Overshadowing is the concept that if one s incidental environmental context is suppressed during
learning, then environmental information will not be encoded and stored in memory, thereby reducing
or eliminating effects of experimenter manipulated environments on memory (Smith Vela, 2001), and
finally mental reinstatement

The Role Of Women During The Patriarchy Society
The roles of women during the Patriarchy Society influenced feminism throughout Shelley s novel.
Each individual woman in Frankenstein fulfilled a different role, therefore being seen in a unique way
through the eyes of society in the story. This can be displayed through the actions of Agatha towards
Felix when the monster states, Soon after this the young man returned, bearing on his shoulder a load
of wood. The girl met him at the door and helped relieve him of his burden (page 97). This illustrates
feminism through the view of the woman feeling that it was her duty to help the man of the house.
Feeling that she needed to assist Felix, Agatha demonstrates the role that women play in a feminist
environment. These specific roles are positively viewed through the eyes of each individual, as seen
when Safie recalls the memories of her mother. The monster narrates, Safie related that her mother
was a Christian Arab, seized and made a slave by the Turks; recommended by her beauty, she had won
the heart of the father of Safie, who married her (page 110). He states how the young girl spoke in
high and enthusiastic terms of her mother, who born in freedom, spurned the bondage to which she
was now reduced (page 110) which in turn clearly illustrates how much Safie adores her mother. The
role of feminism in this situation is positive due to the viewpoint being from another woman.
Similarly, this role is also displayed when Justine stands trial for the murder of Henry Clerval.

Selecting A Strategy Is A Key Foundation
Selecting a strategy is a key foundation in negotiation. Depending on the situation between your
position and that of the other party, different negotiation strategies may be used. Picking the right
strategy could improve the odds of a successful outcome. Chapter 1.3 of our book demonstrates five
basic strategies to use during negotiations. Each strategy has its own set of advantages and
disadvantages depending on the circumstances, and in most instances, a mixture of strategies will be
used. There are two key factors that will determine which of the five strategies you will use. These
factors will depend on your preferences of: the relationship with the other negotiator and the outcome

5. Compromising (split the difference) this is the middle area called satisficing a combination
approach that is used in many approaches. A combination of these strategies can be used at any time.
It is important to remember that the other party will also be choosing a strategy. Negotiations would
go smoother if both parties could decide on a single strategy to use. However, in the real world, parties
may start off with different negotiation tactics. Most importantly, it is to your benefit to know each of
these five negotiation strategies in depth so you can be prepared, should the negotiation go differently
than anticipated. After becoming comfortable with the five different negotiation strategies, the next
step is to decide which of the five strategies to use in a negotiation. To decide this, there are two key
factors to consider: 1. How important is the outcome to be gained from this negotiation? 2. How
important is the past, present, and future relationship with the opponent? There are several main
factors to consider when deciding how to answer the two questions above. The first factor is to look at
the situation to gage what strategy will fit best given your set of circumstances. Analyze your personal
preferences for different strategies. Picking a strategy that you are most comfortable with will help
with having a successful negotiation. Next, consider your experience with using different strategies.

Culpeper s Character Stewie
Having finished Meg s characterisation, I moved on to Stewie. For this analysis, I took Culpeper s
(2001) self characterisation and the implicit cues, as well as appraisal theory (Eggins Slade 1997,
Martin White 2005). Here, I firstly analysed how he portrays himself as a homosexual and as a baby.
For the first one, I took the example of when he kisses Brian so as to be expelled from the army and
says I am so gay with my gayness. For the second one, I looked at when he says I m learning to use
the toilet, I m learning what shapes are. I spent half an hour laughing at my own feet yesterday.
Then, I focused on some implicit cues. Words and expressions like I ve been forced to suffer or
matriarchal tyranny led me to consider how much Stewie hates his mother, up to the point of killing
her. As a consequence of the above mentioned words and expressions, it can be stated that Stewie is
seen as an anti hero. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the one hand, when meeting Susie, Joe s daughter, for the first time, he refers to her as an angel.
The fact that he calls a girl angel can imply that Stewie is heterosexual because of a possible attraction
towards her. Moreover, he also says that she is so hot, which reinforces his heterosexuality.
Nevertheless, in several episodes, it is shown that he may be homosexual, as when other men call him
Desiree. The reason why they call him Desiree is because Stewie is disguised as a woman and this is
his name. In other words, Desiree is Stewie s alter ego. So, that demonstrated me that Stewie really
likes transvestism. His homosexuality is reinforced by his relationship with his teddy bear, Rupert. I
noticed that he could be attracted to Rupert because in one scene he says I m ready to get off the pill. I

Parent Trap Essay
These differences between original movies and remakes are apparent throughout the history of
movies. During the 1960s, when the original movie The Parent Trap was published, divorce was a
touchy topic. Many children did not even know what it was, because it was so rare. Divorce had
become more common in 1998 when The Parent Trap was remade. More and more children were
seeing their parents split up. How do changes, such as these, tell us about the time periods in which
the movies were made? Both movies tell the same story, but the audiences, standards of men and
women, social norms, and settings vary. The 1961 version of The Parent Trap was undoubtedly a
popular movie, although the main topic divorce was not an ideal during the time. ... Show more

The roles of the men and women in the original movie The Parent Trap reflected the time of the
1960s. In the movie, Vicky, Mitch s fiancé, is always accompanied by her mother. Vicky was much
younger than Mitch. She had not ever been married before, unlike Mitch who had been through a
divorce. Her mother tagging along everywhere goes to show that parent involvement, even in
marriage, was important during the time of this film. Her mother wanted to make sure that Vicky did
everything she needed to do in order to marry Mitch. All Vicky wanted was Mitch s money, and her
mother was going to make sure that is what she got. As time progressed, women became more
independent. In the 1998 version of The Parent Trap, Meredith, Nick s fiancé, is always alone, never
accompanied by her mother. This reflects the women of this time: independent and able to make
decisions for themselves. In this version too, all the fiancé wants is the twins father s money. Greed is
a quality that is still seen today because money is something that everyone wants more than they need.
The identical twin girls, Susan and Sharon, are 14 years old in the original movie. In the remake, the
twin girls, Annie and Hallie, are 11 years old. Changing the age was a necessity for the second movie
because girls were much more aged in 1998 than in 1961. The director of the remake, Nancy Meyers,
said, Fourteen year olds today are wearing

The first question, the reason for the availability of lands for tourism, can be explained by a number of
factors. For example, the simplest answer is that certain lands were designated as worth preservation
or other government sanctioned protection and as such, those lands were made available to anyone
who cared to travel and see them. However, there is much more to the story that simple land

writers and publicists, with the writers creating stories of western rugged individualism, harsh frontier
life, heroic tales of bravery and survival etc. As for the publicists, they promoted the west as a retreat

The Importance of Numbers in Chemistry
In chemistry, numbers are very important in making calculations as well as collecting and recording
data. Because numbers are so prevalent in this field of study, many chemists find it important to use
very precise numbers. Their best way of doing so is through significant figures. The significant figures
for any number are the numbers that carry meaning contributing to that numbers precision. In order
for a number to be significant, it must follow a series of rules. For example, only zeroes that are
between two non zero numbers or zeroes that both are to the right of a decimal and follow a number
greater than zero can be considered significant figures. In addition, any number greater than zero is
considered a significant figure, despite where it is located in a numerical value. These rules that help
clarify the significant figures of a value are just a few of the many rules that pertain to significant
figures. When it comes to calculations, the rules for the number of significant figures a product or
quotient can have, differs from those of the number of significant figures a sum or difference can. In
multiplication and division calculations, the product and quotient are expected to be rounded to the
same number of significant figures as the least precise piece of data in the calculation. In addition and
subtraction, the sum and difference are expected to be rounded to the same number of decimal places
as the least precise piece of data. In any calculation, the significant

There are many different things that go into what makes a more just and what makes a war unjust. Sun
Tzu says that a war ought to be waged if it is an intelligent one and a just one. For the purposes of
time, the focus will be on three of Sun Tzu s most important principles; 1. Know your enemy and
yourself, then you will win a 100 battles, 2. Winning a 100 battles is not the pinnacle of success,
avoiding war altogether, and 3. No long war is successful. In Sun Tzu s first principle, he is saying that
one must know the reasons why they are fighting as well as the enemy and their motives, if one can do
that then the war will be a successful one. Now let s look at this and apply it to the Iraq war. For one,
as stated earlier in this document, the United States had no reasonable grounds as too the reason for
the invasion of iraq. It was all based off of fears that there were weapons of mass destruction which
later turned out to never had existed in the first place. Likewise, who really was the enemy in the Iraq
war? Was it Saddam Hussain, terrorist or innocent people. Looking at just numbers it would appear
that the United States military did not clearly understand the enemy at hand which is why war is

there might be one element that separates these students from his or her dream school standardized

hours of studying and time doing school activities are some of the prices that must be paid, but in the

with just one simple test score. All Ivy League schools require and average ACT score of at least 32

may be perfect, if the ACT score is not up to par, then acceptance into a prestigious university is
highly unlikely. Throughout America, the opposition to standardized tests is increasing due to the
negative effects they are having on bright young students. These tests are taking these students years

Igor Stravinsky Essay
Igor Stravinsky
In the passage by Igor Stravinsky, he uses not only comparison and contrast, but also language to
convey his point of view about the conductors of the time and their extreme egotism. Stravinsky
believes that conductors exploit the music for their own personal gain, so rather, he looks on them in a
negative light.
To show his aggravation and irritation, Stravinsky uses the rhetorical device of comparison and
contrast to convey his opinion of conductors. He compares the great conductors to great actors in that
[they] are unable to play anything but themselves . Moreover, being unable to adapt, they have to
adapt the work to themselves, not themselves to the work, which is obviously offending to a notable

This contrasts the motives of the composer and the conductor, which should be to keep the integrity of
the piece of music, but as mentioned above, Stravinsky believes that the conductor s are usually for
personal gain.
The negative point of view that Stravinsky has for the conductors is also revealed through the use of
language, literal and figurative language. Stravinsky uses both literal and figurative language because
they have the power to portray reality. In this piece, the word great is used sarcastically to show the
contrast between what the conductors think of themselves and what he thinks of them. They both are
reality, but reality to two different people, so using great in a sarcastic manner allows for both
Stravinsky s and the conductors interpretations of reality. In this case, the denotation and the
connotation are different, making them important. Here the denotation of the word great is wonderful,
majestic, and important, while the connotation is the exact opposite, ignoble, insignificant, and
inferior. Literal language tells the apparent truth, while figurative language tells the apparent truth it
also tells the indirect truth, making language important in this piece.
In conclusion, Stravinsky airs his annoyance and irritation of

the next few years displayed a great amount of progression for the protection of the American citizen
by implementing the United States Constitution. The first three articles of the Constitution focused on
the division of power between the President and Congress, which comprised of the House of
Representatives and Senate. Since the Constitution s establishment, the issue of who has what certain
war powers has maintained in the spotlight. The Constitution is notoriously misunderstood because of

415). In 1973 Congress adopted the War Powers Resolution in attempt to rein the President in and
consult with Congress when it came to taking any action when introducing troops to hostile regions.
There have been a number of President s who have used their executive power to move U.S. troops
into countries of a hostile nature that were of no immediate threat to the U.S. homeland. President
Wilson sent troops to Vera Cruz during the Mexican Revolution, President Carter sent aid in the form
of helicopters to hostages in Iran, and President Clinton bombed both Iraq and Serbia (Currie, Pg. 41).
Most of those actions leaned towards more of a humanitarian effort, rather than a deliberate attack on
U.S. national security.
The current U.S. President, Barack Obama, has continued this humanitarian and moral trend with the
use of U.S. military force in Libya and Syria. However, both events are very much different in seeking
the approval or consultation by Congress given their political context. In 2011, Libyan leader
Muammar Gaddafi, had come under the international spotlight as a major threat to the citizens of
Libya. Given Libya s location centered amongst several Arab states, there was much at stake for U.S.
interest. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United Nations also backed the U.S.
and other NATO allies military

Before Hitler s Military Background Before He Was Fuehrer
Hitler was the Fuhrer of Germany. So what was his life before he was Fuehrer? Hitler started out as a
regular everyday person, although later he was not. So what was his childhood like? Why was his
military background before he was Fuehrer? And finally, Why did he loathe and despise Jewish

At the start, Adolf Hitler had a very bad, and influential childhood. Hitler was born in Braunau,

join him as a customs official, but Hitler instead, wished to be in Fine Arts, of which his father very
much disliked. Hitler s brother Edmund, passed away when Hitler was 11 in 1900. 3 short years later,
his father also died, in 1903. Consequently, 2 years later in 1905, Hitler s mother allowed him to drop
out of school to pursue the Fine Arts. After leaving school he, Spent the next three years wandering
around Linz attending the theater and spending time in the library . His mother, Klara Polzl, died 1907
leaving Hitler with no family. Hitler applied to the Academy of Fine Arts twice and was rejected both

He was born in Austria, but did not want to join the Austrian army. So while still being an Austrian
citizen, he was accepted into the German army, during World War I s outbreak. He mostly was away
from battle, but was at a lot of very important battles, and at The Battle of Somme was wounded. For
that he was decorated for bravery, earning both the Iron Cross First Class, and the Black Wound
Badge. Hitler was furious at the end of the war, both by defeat, and the degrading, Treaty of Versailles.
It didn t help that Hitler was also mad, since the treaty was made by the government, in a way that
made Hitler think they were weak for doing

  • 2. Analysis Of Physiotherapy Assessment Of A Young Boy ... Introduction Physiotherapy assessment involves forming hypotheses, and thus a diagnosis, by way of questioning, observation and physical examination. It is a requirement of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as stated in the Standards of Proficiency: Physiotherapists All details and information recorded are highly confidential, so patient records must be maintained appropriately, and confidentiality of these never breached (HCPC 2013). In the following report, I will be discussing the hypothetical assessment of a young boy Miguel , who suffered a supracondylar fracture. As he is under 16, he will be accompanied by a parent/guardian who may possibly contribute to the assessment process. Consent should also be given prior to assessment. Subjective Assessment History Taking This subjective assessment forms a series of questions posed to the patient relating to their present condition/problem (Farr 2014a). Important factors that must be taken into consideration prior to treatment, such as patient preferences, contraindications, contributing factors, medication, family medical history, other medical conditions and previous medical investigations, are ascertained during this history taking . The subjective assessment consists of Presenting Condition (PC), History of Presenting Condition (HPC), Past Medical History (PMH), Social History (SH) and Drug History (DH) (Forrester Gale 2014a). During the PC, it is important that Miguel s pain is documented. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Book Thief Good Vs Evil Henry David Thoreau once said, Justice is sweet and musical; but injustice is harsh and discordant. Whenever there are complications and divided opinions in the world, nobody is at rest; because of rallies, protests, fights, and angry mobs. But when justice is achieved, people can relax, even if for the smallest amount of time. Thus, to reach times of joy and happiness, people need to overcome evil through strong efforts as a whole; but, defeating evil takes more than just rallying together. There are many obstacles along the path of achieving justice, that forestall the good men s endeavors. Some argue that the key to evil s success is either for good men to do nothing, or for evil to fight stronger. Edmund Burke, a political theorist, believes ... But an outlier, Hans Hubermann, sees the starved prisoners and presents a piece of bread, to a Jewish man (Zusak 394). Hans gives hope to the prisoner that there are still people out there, willing to help others out. He makes the man feel like a human, alive and thankful again. However, Hans kindness comes to a halt when he is brutally whipped on the street by a German soldier (Zusak 394). Even when Hans attempts to be a good samaritan, his plans are crushed by the authority of the Nazis. Additionally, Hans later on regrets his decision to help the Jewish man, and worries that Max will be taken away by the Nazis; so he sends Max away, to escape. When Hans acts, he does not solve injustice he only worsens it, by putting Max and his family in possible danger. Therefore, good men ultimately do not reach complete justice, because some things are out of their control. According to an article called Remembering Selma s Bloody Sunday , Martin Luther King and a group of peaceful protesters for black voting rights marched from Selma to Montgomery. When they arrived, they were stopped by Alabama state troopers, who then knocked the marchers to the ground...struck them with sticks...and chased them back over the bridge (Klein). The brutal beatings from the troopers ended their rallies, leaving them unable to fight at that moment. Their attempts to make change would have succeeded if it were not for the uncontrollable force of the police. Similarly, in an article called Freedom Summer , black Mississippians and few white volunteers came together to peacefully protest black voting rights. Before the Freedom Summer movement, less than seven percent of the state s eligible black voters were registered to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Deaf Perceptions Of The Deaf Deaf Perceptions of Animacy Deaf culture has long been misunderstood and misrepresented within America, in part due to the significant language barrier between the American Deaf and their hearing counterparts. Though it is often thought to be nothing more than an elevated form of charades, American Sign Language (ASL) is a language like any other not only with its own grammatical syntax, phonology, and morphology, but also in its compliance to the Sapir Whorf hypothesis. Created by Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee Whorf, the hypothesis exists in two degrees: weak and strong. The former claims that language shapes our thoughts, and thus our culture, while the latter version claims that language not only shapes our thoughts and our culture, it creates them. Though there is debate surrounding the degree to which the hypothesis extends, it is undoubtable that it is applicable to Deaf culture and its use of ASL as a first language in prelingually Deaf individuals. Using the Sapir Whorf hypothesis as its theoretical framework, this research proposes to investigate how the absence of copular verbs within ASL shapes Deaf perception of animacy and how such perceptions manifest within Deaf culture. Language was long thought to be a passageway passagewayfor thought; a go between that allowed one to translate their pre existing ideas into a communicable form via sounds, writing, and gesture (Cultural Encounters). However, this understanding shifted upon the introduction of the Sapir Whorf ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Artificial Selection Research Paper Evolution is a real thing that happened and is still happening today, there is so much evidence to prove it. We have the fossil record, we know how natural selection works and how and why it happens, and we know how artificial selection works and that we use it all of the time today. There is just too much evidence to call evolution just a theory. The fossil record is the history of life, as documented by fossils. The fossil record can show us so many things, from the history of how homosapiens evolved into what were are today to how whales were once furry, four legged land animals. The fact that we share roughly 50 percent of our DNA with a banana is pretty astounding, but if you were to follow our family tree back far enough, you would find that every single one of us, human or not, share a common ancestor. Yes, it is pretty hard to believe but it makes sense if you really think about it. If we have 98% of the same genes as chimpanzees, 80% of similar genes as cows, and 60% of similar genes as a fruit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Have you ever wondered how we got different types of dogs or cats? Artificial selection! Around 27,000 40,000 years ago the hunter gatherers began to tame wolves to have as hunting companions. The people would eventually begin to breed their wolves so that they would have certain traits like hair length, color, size, sharpness of teeth, tail length, and just about everything in between. When people realized that they could control how animals would look, they started experimenting to see what all they could make. This is how artificial selection works. Humans discover that they can change an animal s characteristics, they discover traits that make the animals more pleasing to people (desired traits), and they use these traits to make animals that are best suited for whatever people want and/or need them ... • 7. The Cold War Era Cold War The cold war started in 1945 and ended in 1989. It was a war between the United States and the Soviet Union. This war took place right after WWII and it is called the cold war because there were no real battles such as with tanks and bombs. The history on the United States in war is that before the cold war the United States had fought in 24 battles and they won 17 of them. The strength and the courage that the United States has when they go to war are unbelievable. Their win to loss ratio on wars is so incredible and the weapons that they got to use weren t as accurate as todays weapons are now. The United States and the Soviet Union both liked to make bombs. They both did everything they could to perfect them and to train guys how to use them so they could use them for military purposes. The cold war got started by the erection of the Berlin Wall which was used to stop people from escaping the country. When the wall got put up the Americans started flying spy planes and found out that Soviets had nuclear missiles capable of going off and heading straight for places in the United States. When the United States found out about the missiles they got a navy Rhea 2 Blockade around Cuba so that the Soviets couldn t send war materials in and out. The choice of beautiful content ultimately offers a stronger point in his protest since he explains what people expect him to write. The poem begins by questioning the reader, assuming that the reader would ask Neruda, where are the lilacs?/ And the poppy petalled metaphysics?/ And the rain repeatedly spattering/ and drilling them full/ of apertures and birds? Neruda decided to engage the reader by acknowledging the reader s need for a typically beautiful poem. At night the ruined city gave off a radioactive glow which could be seen for miles (Bradbury 167). From the start, we begin to see that everything in the vicinity of a town on Earth is destroyed except this damaged house still managing to function properly. Through the description of the setting, the readers start to get an idea of what it would be like if the world is destroyed by a radioactive bomb. On top of the house already been destroyed, we read that a falling tree bough crashed through the kitchen window. Cleaning solvent, bottled, shattered over the stove. While the world has not always married people formally, the link between a wife, her husband, and both their families has been a significant part of history; however, things change. Many women cheat and have children that are not their husbands . It has been a problem since Mesopotamian society; at least, that is as far back as society can trace it. Ancient societies started making laws against the adultery of a woman and punished them for cheating. While the laws have disappeared, adultery has still continued through history. Both the The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen and the Scottish ballad The Daemon Lover deliver messages in order to warn women to stay faithful to their partners, no matter the circumstances. Bowen s The Demon Lover expresses a warning to women during times of war. The story takes place at the beginning of World War 2 and tells the tale of a woman, Mrs. Drover, who remarried after her fiance was presumed dead during his time in the war, but many years later, received a letter from him. Teenagers are halfway to adulthood and are working on figuring out who they are and what kind people they re going to be. That inner battle surfaces when they act out and when they get emotional. We ve all been there. What s harder than being a teenager, however, is being a gay teenager. Gay teenagers have all of the regular teenage issues that they have to go through and then they have a little something extra to work out. Firstly, they can be trying to sort out if they are indeed gay. If they are then they have to figure out how to come out to people and if it s safe for them to do so. Will their parents reject them? It s a real possibility, unfortunately. How will their friends and neighbors treat them? These are all questions that they have to wrestle with, and that s a lot for anyone, let alone a teenager. This Dad s response after overhearing his son saying he wants to come out is the response that every gay kid should receive. Meet Nate Nate is a teenager who is dating a boy named Mike. Vietnam War Youth Culture Essay Youth culture in the United States seems to change with every new fad and style, but the shift in youth culture during the Vietnam War was something else entirely. Young adults were faced with startling new things like being drafted into the military and facing violence on the homefront. Young people in the United States, and soldiers stationed in Vietnam, tried to use drugs as an escape from the reality of war and death. While the soldiers were fighting overseas, many young people faced their own battles at home by protesting and and rallying. While looking back into the 1960s and 1970s, it is important that we recognize the struggles and triumphs of the Vietnam War era youth. To fully understand the changes of youth culture due to the Vietnam War, it is important to analyze the United State s involvement in the war to begin with. The Vietnam War was an ongoing, violent conflict between the Northern Vietnam communists called the Viet Cong and the democratic Southern Vietnam (Kington, 2012). Its superior military, weaponry and intelligence apparatus have been crucial in this system, but an equally important factor has been its control of the global economy, and its primary weapon, the U.S. Dollar. The dollar s world reserve status alone does not make it unique, but its deeply rooted role in American and global geo politics certainly does. As Vassili Fouskas and Bülent Gökay point out in their book The New American Imperialism, Dollar hegemony has always been strategic to the future of American global dominance, in many respects more important than America s overwhelming military power. While military power is more visible and useful as a display, it is the dollar s role as reserve currency that secures the domination of the U.S. in the global economic market place . [1] This system is built on serious fault lines and its future is the most important issue for international relations today. To understand how the dollar secures American hegemony requires some review of history. • 26. Black Sun Character Analysis The 2016 film Moonlight showcases a rare occurrence of a well rounded black father figure in the character Juan. Moonlight is a film that centers around a young black man Chiron who is struggling to find his place in the world. This essay will be a study of the character, Juan, who is not the biological father of Chiron, yet he is the central father figure in Chiron s life. Black fatherhood in modern cinema is filled with stereotypes and problematic notions. The black father archetype is usually either a non existent dead beat dad, an over protective hypermasculine dad, or the abusive dad. These archetypes leave no room for black men who fit into neither of these categories to thrive in modern cinema (as well as other media outlets.) This is indeed harmful for the black men and young black boys in our society, Although, with the release of Moonlight, it is sure that one day, a multitude of black father figures will be able to be positively represented in the media. To conclude, the character of Juan emcompasses many atributes that prove him to be a complex and intersectional representation of black fatherhood. Rather than being a one dimensional or flat character, Juan emcompasses many character traits. While the viewer s first impression of him is that he is a stereotypical, drug dealer in a poor black community (he is never seen without a durag, he wears gold chains, a multitude of rings and baggy jeans, and he drives a flashy car), as the film progresses, it is ... They appear as follows; reinstatement is the idea that memory is better when testing occurs in a reinstated environment as opposed to a different environment (Smith Vela, 2001) and this is true across all studies (Smith Vela, 2001), outshining implies that non contextual cues when used for guiding memory often diminish or eliminate the effects of contextual cues (Smith Vela, 2001), Overshadowing is the concept that if one s incidental environmental context is suppressed during learning, then environmental information will not be encoded and stored in memory, thereby reducing or eliminating effects of experimenter manipulated environments on memory (Smith Vela, 2001), and finally mental reinstatement ... • 28. The Role Of Women During The Patriarchy Society The roles of women during the Patriarchy Society influenced feminism throughout Shelley s novel. Each individual woman in Frankenstein fulfilled a different role, therefore being seen in a unique way through the eyes of society in the story. This can be displayed through the actions of Agatha towards Felix when the monster states, Soon after this the young man returned, bearing on his shoulder a load of wood. The girl met him at the door and helped relieve him of his burden (page 97). This illustrates feminism through the view of the woman feeling that it was her duty to help the man of the house. Feeling that she needed to assist Felix, Agatha demonstrates the role that women play in a feminist environment. These specific roles are positively viewed through the eyes of each individual, as seen when Safie recalls the memories of her mother. The monster narrates, Safie related that her mother was a Christian Arab, seized and made a slave by the Turks; recommended by her beauty, she had won the heart of the father of Safie, who married her (page 110). He states how the young girl spoke in high and enthusiastic terms of her mother, who born in freedom, spurned the bondage to which she was now reduced (page 110) which in turn clearly illustrates how much Safie adores her mother. The role of feminism in this situation is positive due to the viewpoint being from another woman. Similarly, this role is also displayed when Justine stands trial for the murder of Henry Clerval. ... For this analysis, I took Culpeper s (2001) self characterisation and the implicit cues, as well as appraisal theory (Eggins Slade 1997, Martin White 2005). Here, I firstly analysed how he portrays himself as a homosexual and as a baby. For the first one, I took the example of when he kisses Brian so as to be expelled from the army and says I am so gay with my gayness. For the second one, I looked at when he says I m learning to use the toilet, I m learning what shapes are. I spent half an hour laughing at my own feet yesterday. Then, I focused on some implicit cues. Words and expressions like I ve been forced to suffer or matriarchal tyranny led me to consider how much Stewie hates his mother, up to the point of killing her. The roles of the men and women in the original movie The Parent Trap reflected the time of the 1960s. In the movie, Vicky, Mitch s fiancé, is always accompanied by her mother. Vicky was much younger than Mitch. She had not ever been married before, unlike Mitch who had been through a divorce. Her mother tagging along everywhere goes to show that parent involvement, even in marriage, was important during the time of this film. Her mother wanted to make sure that Vicky did everything she needed to do in order to marry Mitch. All Vicky wanted was Mitch s money, and her mother was going to make sure that is what she got. As time progressed, women became more independent. In the 1998 version of The Parent Trap, Meredith, Nick s fiancé, is always alone, never accompanied by her mother. For example, the simplest answer is that certain lands were designated as worth preservation or other government sanctioned protection and as such, those lands were made available to anyone who cared to travel and see them. However, there is much more to the story that simple land protection legislation. For example, the earliest and perhaps original origins for western tourism were writers and publicists, with the writers creating stories of western rugged individualism, harsh frontier life, heroic tales of bravery and survival etc. As for the publicists, they promoted the west as a retreat from the frantic, stressful, and even un healthy environment of an ... • 34. The Importance of Numbers in Chemistry In chemistry, numbers are very important in making calculations as well as collecting and recording data. Because numbers are so prevalent in this field of study, many chemists find it important to use very precise numbers. Their best way of doing so is through significant figures. The significant figures for any number are the numbers that carry meaning contributing to that numbers precision. In order for a number to be significant, it must follow a series of rules. For example, only zeroes that are between two non zero numbers or zeroes that both are to the right of a decimal and follow a number greater than zero can be considered significant figures. In addition, any number greater than zero is considered a significant figure, despite where it is located in a numerical value. These rules that help clarify the significant figures of a value are just a few of the many rules that pertain to significant figures. When it comes to calculations, the rules for the number of significant figures a product or quotient can have, differs from those of the number of significant figures a sum or difference can. In multiplication and division calculations, the product and quotient are expected to be rounded to the same number of significant figures as the least precise piece of data in the calculation. In addition and subtraction, the sum and difference are expected to be rounded to the same number of decimal places as the least precise piece of data. In any calculation, the significant ... The invasion and the war itself faced tremendous criticism from in and outside the United States in which many called the venture a total disaster. The Brown University Institute for International studies estimates that the war caused around 189,000 civilian causalities and costed the United States more $2 trillion dollar. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many different things that go into what makes a more just and what makes a war unjust. Sun Tzu says that a war ought to be waged if it is an intelligent one and a just one. For the purposes of time, the focus will be on three of Sun Tzu s most important principles; 1. Know your enemy and yourself, then you will win a 100 battles, 2. Winning a 100 battles is not the pinnacle of success, avoiding war altogether, and 3. No long war is successful. In Sun Tzu s first principle, he is saying that one must know the reasons why they are fighting as well as the enemy and their motives, if one can do that then the war will be a successful one. Now let s look at this and apply it to the Iraq war. For one, as stated earlier in this document, the United States had no reasonable grounds as too the reason for the invasion of iraq. It was all based off of fears that there were weapons of mass destruction which later turned out to never had existed in the first place. Likewise, who really was the enemy in the Iraq war? Was it Saddam Hussain, terrorist or innocent people. Looking at just numbers it would appear that the United States military did not clearly understand the enemy at hand which is why war is considered a failure to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Countless hours of studying and time doing school activities are some of the prices that must be paid, but in the end, it will all be worth it. Or will it? All those years of hard work could become almost meaningless with just one simple test score. All Ivy League schools require and average ACT score of at least 32 for an applicant to even be looked at with care. Although every other aspect of the students application may be perfect, if the ACT score is not up to par, then acceptance into a prestigious university is highly unlikely. Throughout America, the opposition to standardized tests is increasing due to the negative effects they are having on bright young students. These tests are taking these students years of hard work and basically throwing down the toilet. It just is not right to have one test that bases how smart a student is, when there are so many other factors that should be looked at. Standardized tests should not be required for college admission because they are an unreliable measure of a student s performance and are not as important as what was accomplished in the students four years of high ... Stravinsky believes that conductors exploit the music for their own personal gain, so rather, he looks on them in a negative light. To show his aggravation and irritation, Stravinsky uses the rhetorical device of comparison and contrast to convey his opinion of conductors. The negative point of view that Stravinsky has for the conductors is also revealed through the use of language, literal and figurative language. Stravinsky uses both literal and figurative language because they have the power to portray reality. In this piece, the word great is used sarcastically to show the contrast between what the conductors think of themselves and what he thinks of them. They both are reality, but reality to two different people, so using great in a sarcastic manner allows for both Stravinsky s and the conductors interpretations of reality. In this case, the denotation and the connotation are different, making them important. Here the denotation of the word great is wonderful, majestic, and important, while the connotation is the exact opposite, ignoble, insignificant, and inferior.
