Gender Discrimination In Crawling Across Broken Glass
Deep into Discrimination
Have you ever walked into a public place and knew everyone was judging you? You felt the
glaring stares as you walked with your head down to the back of the room. As you sat, you could
hear the whispers and unspoken thoughts that stirred around you. You knew you didn t fit in. You
knew you were not liked. You knew you were not wanted. This has happened to many people due to
harsh discrimination based on nationality, race, and gender. As I ve grown up, I ve faced this
experience many times. I was adopted, along with three siblings from multiple countries by
Caucasian parents. A lot of people have positive judgments, but plenty others have negative ones.
It can get to the point where nowhere feels safe and it can feel like you re alone. A lot of research

People have written hundreds of stories such as, The Help, by Kathryn Stockett which tells a
story of many injustices based on race, Crawling Across Broken Glass, which tells a story of a
woman who beat the odds of gender discrimination, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John
Boyne which is a story based on religious differences. Some books even take a more obvious
approach such as, The Face of Discrimination, by Vincent J. Rosigno and Religion or Belief,
Discrimination and Equality. Newspapers and magazines have written thousands of articles based
on discrimination of all kinds. Cartoons and comics have storylines based on the horrible
circumstances many people face daily due to their appearance. I can add personal experiences and
share a few other peoples thoughts regarding discrimination. How has discrimination improved
over the years? Is it still an issue?

Examples Of Colonialism In A Passage To India
In A Passage to India, the colonialists are definitely the stronger race and have authority over the
locals. This authority gives them power which they use against the inferior race, the Indians
(Boehmer 1995: 10). The Indians are considered weak, outcast, and second rate. They are believed
to be different from Europeans, especially the English. Even though the British might have their
own different categories like social class and religions, they are united as opposed to the local
natives (Boehmer 1995: 67). There is very little social integration between the colonialists and the
Indians. Yet there are incidents in the novel that show that the Indians are more sophisticated than
the colonialists. Forster had spent a long time in Indiabefore... Show more content on

They are not to blame, they have not a dog s chance we should be like them if we settled here
(Forster 1979: 176). Mr Turton states that he has never known anything but disaster result when
English people and Indians attempt to be intimate socially (Forster 1979: 182). Contact, in his
opinion, would be allowed, as well as courtesy, but intimacy should not be allowed. Such intimacy
is only negative. Only mutual respect and esteem can enable them to socialize with each other.
The British feel that it vital for them to stick to the unwritten rules on how they behave towards the
locals. These unwritten rules, which the locals are bound to follow in their relations with the
colonialists, safeguard the interests of the British, making them the white superiors. Any
modification of these rules would risk the whole system

Christopher Abacan Research Paper
Christopher AbacanPeriod D
Opening: Good morning, ladies and gentleman! I m Christopher Abacan, and I ll be teaching you
guys about architecture. More specifically, the difference between American and Japanese
architecture. Hey, this isn t as boring as it sounds. This is Christopher Abacan presenting here! If
any of you have ever sat through one of my presentations, you ll know it ll be hilarious. This, my
friends, will (probably) be fun.

Let s talk about Japan. The nation is known for being much more technologically advanced than
the U.S., so naturally the buildings would be different, right? Sort of. Notice that the post in
postmodernism is just a prefix that means after. That means we ll have to talk about modernism.
Modernism is, as I said before, a more futuristic looking style of art *Clears throat* I mean
architecture. The prefix of after doesn t mean that America is more advanced than Japan. This
has nothing to do with chronology. Modernism is a type of architecture/art that is made up of
one piece of material, or designed to look that way. The design of these buildings looks cool, and
is usually efficient, but it lacks the artistic flair of some other styles. *Play slide 3 of slideshow*
As seen in literally half of the pictures, nature is ingrained in a lot of the structures. Other than
being artistic, this traces back to what I said in the beginning of my presentation. It also holds the
extra bonus of being a way to be religious . Yes, I just quoted myself. Don t judge. The traditional
religion of Japan, Shinto believed that nature was very important. The main thing that is associated
with the religion is that everything in nature has kami in it, which are like little spirits. The way
nature is ingrained in Japanese is able to flow easily with modernism. Since the architectural style is
usually either cubic or spherical,

Where The Wild Things Are Again Analysis
Since the dawn of time, humans have learned to communicate through certain writings or
stories. Many individuals have benefitted from the gift of reading that we take so much for
granted these days. The hunger for knowledge is a basic human instinct that has took place and
influenced many people s lives, including mine. But I ask myself these questions. Is knowledge
reading, or is reading knowledge? Can reading influence your life choices? Well here I am,
thinking back on my childhood clouded by parental disputes and my adventure as a reader and
how it has influenced my life today. My reading experiences as a child up to the present have had
a great influence on me. My goal in this paper is to take you through a journey of my experiences...

My family moved just about every other year, which made my life full of new experiences and
adventure! Which brings me to my next memorable reading experience. My dad introduced me
to a series that was important to him and his childhood. My Grandpa read him the same series as
he went to bed and my father wanted to pass on the tradition as I will to my children as well. My
all time favorite book series has remained The Lord of the Rings since my father read it to me on
one of the few nights he had off work. That series really spoke to me as a child who spent his
whole life moving places and experiencing new things. I felt like Bilbo taking his first step
outside of Hobbiton, not knowing anything of what mysterious new wonders or terrors awaited
his company. At the time I was moving to Colorado from the middle of nowhere in New York.
When Bilbo was on his journey to the Lonely Mountain it really spoke to me personally since I
was starting my journey to a state full of some of the most rigid, marvelous mountains you ll ever
see. I finished the book with my dad on the way to colorado and I wanted more. The adventure
excited me more than anything else ever had. I loved the thrill of not knowing what was ahead and
not turning back. Walking into a strange new place, full of strange new people can be thrilling yet
terrifying. I had become accustomed to it. Adventure was my

The Supreme Courts Failures Culminated Together
For more than decades the court has continued to be pivotal in some of the biggest decisions for the
social identity of America. Specifically noting that for many years the majority of Americans
supported things that shaped the identity of American history (i.e. Slavery, Gay marriage, Sodomy,
etc.). Erwin Chemernisky continues to examine whether the courts roles in major social issues have
failed the American people or not. Erwin continues to explain that the supreme courts failures
culminated together, are not only a failure for race issues in America, but also a failure to interpret
the constitutioneffectively (21). These broad generalizations of the court flourish throughout his
book, however, it is final assessment of the court that leaves the most to be contended with.
Specifically noting that overall the court has done way more harm than good with regards to
addressing minority issues an in wake of the warren court has continued to make flawed decisions
in favor of the majority (53). This rhetoric must be addressed and analyzed by first looking to
professor Erwin s view of the courts take on minority, secondly analyzing his take on the court
before and after the warren era and lastly addressing his support and analysis of the purpose of
judicial review. Through this analysis it will become evident that Erwin Chemernisky has
misinterpreted the supreme courts position as a protector of minority rights instead of the upholder
and interpreter of the constitution and law.

Pros And Cons Of California Town Hall Meetings
A California town is being threatened with a lawsuit over a 12 hour prayer rally held outside the
city hall for a 6 year old girl who was shot last week, and for an upcoming town hall meeting at a
property belonging to a Christian organization. City mayor Anthony Silva received a letter from
the American Humanist Association and Stockton Area Atheists and Freethinkers, telling him that
the prayer rally held at a public property violated the Constitution. The rally was dedicated to the
6 year old child who was wounded in gunfire aimed at the car she was riding with her mother. The
mayor had organized the rally in hopes of ending homicidal violence, of which the little girl was
40th victim. My city had its 40th homicide. So we are in desperate need of immediate action.

Mayors and other public officials cannot use the machinery of the state to push their religious
agendas. Using the state to promote prayer violates the Establishment Clause of the First
Amendment and alienates community members of minority faiths and of no faith, AHA senior
counsel Monica Miller said in a statement. The letter also complained that the town hall meetings
should not take place at properties of Christian organizations such as of Christian Life Center,
where it is set to take place on November 30. There is similarly no secular purpose for holding
town hall meetings in religious Christian venues, especially when there are ample secular
government venues available. And clearly, there is no secular purpose in having a city sponsored
town hall meeting hosted by a Christian organization. The city s rejection of the alternative of
wholly secular [venues] makes it very clear that its purpose of holding the town hall meetings in
churches is

Green Day Punk Rock Bands
Introduction Punk rock trio from Berkley, Green Day is on the music scene for a whole eternity.
On the radio and other platforms we heard the hits innumerable times that have become anthems
of modern punk rock, such as the Boulevard of Broken Dreams , American Idiot , 21 Guns ,
Good Riddance and Basket Case . Over time, Green Day became an icon of the punk rock genre,
which many listeners like. Everything started more than twenty years ago, in 1987, when 15
years old Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Pritchard formed a band called Sweet Children. After
some time, they were joined by Frank Edwin Wright Jr. and TrГ© Cool (who later replaced the
original drummer). This year, Green Day celebrated two big anniversaries: 21 years since they...

The VHF/UHF is used as return feedback from the excited atoms in the ionosphere. The digisonde
is used to target objects on a double three dimensional plane. As for the magnetometers, they
measure magnetization in the ionosphere to indicate polarity and charge amount.
The problem we have here is that we have a weapon that has been used for environmental
warfare. True, the main purpose the contractors had in mind was to detect anomalies in the
ionosphere by bursting it with energy, but if you just think back to science class, when you excite
atoms, they collide and after some duration of time, cause lots of heat. Of course, this is limited,
but let s say you want to play dangerous. Paired with doping agents like arsenic and boron (which

Designing A Bridge Made From Commercial Pasta
Introduction The objective of the project is to design a bridge made from commercial pasta that
is able to withhold a weight of 1134 grams (2.5 pounds) over a period of five minutes. Upon
evaluation, the efficiency will be taken into consideration for the overall result. This makes
choosing a design and craftsmanship crucial to the overall performance. The given constraints
really makes it challenging however they have to be followed and considered before beginning
the preliminary stages of designing. Our goal as a team from the start was to build a bridgethat not
only held the weight for the required time, but also be the lightest structure in the class. Our final
design took a lot of work to reach. After four prototypes and combining aspects from all of them,
we finally came up with a design that we felt would help us achieve our goal. Our final design
most closely resembles a Camelback Pratt Truss. We came across this design in a picture of the
Woolsey Bridge located in the outskirts of Woolsey, Arkansas. After studying the real life
construction of this particular bridge, we found that if we manipulate it as close as possible with
pasta, we ended up getting better results. The following report will go through the engineering
design process we used throughout this project.
Design Ideas
We researched several pasta bridge designs from several pasta bridge competitions that have been
held across the world. We also researched the different designs that actual bridges

The city I propose as a perfect city, would be as close to an ecocity as possible, although have
some differences. For example, for electrical needs, I would suggest the city have a solar power
plant, but on those desperate times, energy would be bought from other electrical plants from
nearby towns or states.
Water purification and a wastewater treatment plants would be necessary in order to provide the
citizens and visitors with clean healthy water. To prevent flooding, this citywas built on flood

Paddleboats would be popular in the lakes and river. Walking and biking would be the most
influenced form of transportation. Neighborhood stores would be encouraged, promoting bike and
walk transportation. No mass transportation systems will be found running through the city.
III. Density of Homes
Understandably, some people enjoy large lawns. For every 1 home that is built on an acre
property, 2 homes have to be built on ВЅ acre property. The homes will be built more northern and
away from the river. Towards the southern part of the river will only be green space and nature
preserves. The city will have a medium density
IV. Businesses/Industry/Commercial
Tourism will be the major money catcher on the lake and riverside areas. Tourists will be
attracted to the city s beauty and fun activities (see aesthetics). Although tourism brings in a lot of
money, small animal and vegetable farms will be maintained, providing the city with some of its
food portion. Gardens will also be kept at most of the homes. Not much food will be transported
into the city. The city will try to be the most independent possible. Building will use the solar heat
method for water and space heating on those rare occasions when necessary.

Destructive Colonization Exposed in Shooting an Elephant and Heart of Darkness
As a man is captured, his first instinct is to try and break free from his shackles and chains. Primal
urges such as this often accompany humans when they are forced, as in capture, to rely on their
most basic instincts to survive.
In this manner, natives in Africa acted upon instinct when the Europeans arrived to take their land
and freedom. The short story Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell and the novel Heart of
Darkness by Joseph Conrad revolve around the time when colonialism had a foothold in many parts
of the world. This setting is one of conflict with the native peoples in these countries who are

This unrest needs to be subdued so that control will remain over the conquered. In this way, Orwell
needed to exterminate an elephant because it had become wild and had killed a native man.
However, the natives had not shown much interest while [the elephant] was merely ravaging their
homes, but it was different now that [the elephant] [is] going to be shot. (Century, 146)
Shooting this elephant has much significance because it illustrates the control over the natives that
the colonizers had. Orwell needed to kill the elephant in order to support his position of a law
figure in his town. The elephant was unruly to begin with, but it also served as a reminder for
Orwell s constituents about who was in power, and who had control.
Control is also used in The Heart of Darkness when Marlow first sees a group of natives, dying
slowly it [is] very clear . They had [become] inefficient as Marlow states. Inefficient with the job
and labor that was forced upon them by the colonizers. In this manner, it is evident that the
natives were forced to work and die against their will. Marlow recounts that these men were
forced to become slaves for England, forced to be oppressed and controlled by colonialist rule. The
tyranny of the natives led to a struggle to keep order within Orwell s and Marlow s jurisdictions.
As Orwell and Marlow struggle to keep order at times, they both

Mobile applications category that showed the fastest growth was social networking. There are
great apps for all types of mobile devices to keep the attention of customers, entertain them, and

is taking advantage of this, since the mobile advertising are very well received and needed by
consumers to stay connected to their favourite brands. The restaurants are one of those
professional fields that have taken advantage of advances in technology and new trends to be at
the forefront of social media. In fact, according to results of a survey conducted by Carayannis

Maldivian Scouts were the first among NGOs to respond by taking initiative to report to operation

Following the destructions in islands, communities that were not affected by the tsunami took the

A Career in Social Work
A Career in Social Work
I chose to do research on a career as a social worker because, based on my Holland and MBTI
code, this career best combines the conventional, social, and realistic aspects of my personality. I
also feel that this career choice corresponds with my personal values, as it will allow me to channel
my communication and problem solving skills towards helping disadvantaged individuals and
families.
Entering the social work field requires considerable preparation. In California, as in most states, a
bachelor s degree in social work (BSW), as well as the completion of additional coursework
hours in areas such as child abuse assessment and alcohol/chemical dependency, is the minimum
requirement to become a Licensed Bachelor s Social Worker (LBSW). An LBSW must work
under the supervision of a Licensed Master Social Worker or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker,
licenses which both require a master s degree in social work (MSW). Most California State
University campuses in the southern California area offer accredited degrees in social work. In
particular, the University of Southern California offers a top ranked online MSW program. Full
time social workers must also be prepared to work 40 hours per week, occasionally working
evenings and weekends to meet deadlines, meet with clients, or handle emergencies. In addition to
fulfilling all these preparation requirements, successful social workers must be deeply
compassionate, a good listener, and an effective

Meditations Of Marcus Aurelius Summary
The title of the book I read for the analysis is The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius written by
Marcus Aurelius. The book was originally written in Greek therefore it has been translated into
English and several other languages. The version that I read was published by Penguin in 2006 and
translated by Micahel Hmmond. The Meditations is a very unique book because it was never
meant to be published.
The author of the book, Marcus Aurelius, was a Roman emperor from 161 180 AD. He was born
in present day Cordoba, Spain to noble Roman parents. His father was a Roman politician and his
mother a Roman heiress. In Rome, the succession rules to become emperor are not based on
consanguinity; instead, the Emperor or Caesar chooses who he wants his successor to be. The
senate then approves or rejects the Emperor s candidate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Disadvantages Of Income Tax
An income tax is a rate charged on the income of individuals as well as business (companies or
other legal entities). Individual income taxes often tax the total earning of the individual, while
corporate tax often taxes net profit of the company. Different tax systems exist, with varying
degrees of taxincidence. Income taxation can be progressive, proportional or regressive. Tax
systems define income differently such as inclusion of windfall earnings, and often allow notional
reductions of income such as a reduction based on number of children supported.
Generally the income tax is employed in a progressive manner, meaning as one earns a higher
salary a higher proportion (percentage) of his income is taxed. The idea of a progressive income
tax has garnered support from economists and political scientists of many different ideologies, from
Adam Smith in The Wealth of Nations to Karl Marx in The Communist Manifesto. Income taxes
used in most countries around the world are characterized by a progressive scheme, but are not
without criticism.
The Disadvantages
The implementation of an income tax system is very complex, especially when trying to regulate
the rich and the corporations. So complicated in fact that an entire industry exists to simply monitor
and control the system. The government must enforce every line of the tax code, for example in
the US the IRS requires 90,000 tax accountants. The IRS and tax audit industry might do more for
the economy if they were retrained

A Brief History of Playboy Enterprises
There are many different aspects of American Culture. One part of this culture is the idolization of
beautiful women. Playboy is one of many examples of how Americans idolize women. Playboy

Playboy was also quite successful with the creation of the Playboy Club. The Playboy Club was

The first clubs to open internationally were in Jamaica and London. In the early 1990s however,

Paget s Disease
Osteitis deformans or as we all know it as Paget s disease, was first described in the year 1876 by
an English surgeon named Sir James Paget. This disease results in enlarged or deformed bones due
to excessive breakdown and formation of bone tissue (ReumatologГa ClГnica). Since there is a
disturbance in the boneremodeling stage, the bones may look enlarged but it is brittle, softer, and
weaker which leads to fractures and deformities (MedicineNet). This disease is a chronic bone
disorder, which means that it is long term and cannot be prevented or cured by medications. Also,
this disease is mostly asymptomatic meaning it does not produce or show any symptoms, which is
quite terrifying. It is mostly detected when patients get an x ray for something else. This is most
commonly located in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another treatment is calcitonin as a nasal spray or injection, which is involved in bone
metabolism. Another treatment is bisphosphonates, which help control bone remodeling and
resorption. Bisphosphonates were founded in the year 1970 and is now the preferred treatment
because of its better efficacy and safety profile compared to the use of calcitonin (Mayo Clinic).
Researchers say that Paget s disease occurs in three different phases. The first phase is called the
lytic stage. During this phase, the rate of bone turnover is increased as to twenty times the
normal rate. The second stage is called the mixed phase. In this phase, the osteoblasts increase
because it is trying to keep up with the bone resorption by making new bone. As these two
phases (osteoclasts and osteoblasts) repeat, a high degree of bone turnover happens. The final
phase of Paget s disease is called the sclerotic phase. During this stage, the bone formations over
rule the bone resorption causing the bone to look abnormally larger and deformed. Even though
the bone appears to look larger, the bone is weaker because the way of laying down the bone is in a
disorganized pattern making it less dense

Anthropogenic Noise On Cetaceans
Rays of pale sunlight pass through a gradient of cerulean blue. The wide open space seems almost
eerie until a humpback whale gently swimming sings his song, and the space fills with wonder,
until a disturbance arises.
Cetaceans evolved to use sound as their way of sensing the environment, navigating, foraging, and
selecting mates. Anthropogenic sounds have negative effects on marine life. Humans produce their
own underwater sounds through activities such as aircraft overflights, boats and ships (vessels),
tourism, stationary offshore activities, air gun firing, sonars, explosions, and methods to control
movement of marine life (W. Johnson Richardson and Bernd WГјrsig, 1997).
Many studies have discovered vessels as the main contributor of anthropogenic noise. It is difficult
to study the effects of anthropogenic noise on cetaceans because it is hard for scientists to see the
effects on communities in aquatic environments. Nevertheless, researchers are finding new
methods to study cetacean acoustics, which results in better details, but it is still hard to understand
the long term effects of anthropogenic noise on these mammals. Researchers need to conduct more
studies and add to previous data and results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bottlenose dolphins will decrease their calls in the presence of certain vessels. Call rates decrease,
frequency and length of whistles increase, and creaks changed in the presence of ferries and leisure
boats. Dolphin whistles are a form of social communication. Vessel noise masks whistles interfering
with important social interactions such as mating and mother calf communication, it is hard for the
receiver to recognize signals. Dolphins use creaks in echolocation; changes in these creaks reduce
the efficiency of foraging. Short term vessel noise effects on foraging and mating may turn into
long term, affecting residency patterns (David Lundquist et al.,

Sports Programs At The Youth And High School Game Level
Concussion in Athletes
Every athlete is affected in some way by the potential risk of a concussion during practice or in a
game from youth leagues up to the professional level of play. My writing will focus equally on
concussions in football athletes at all levels. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC), has created training courses for coaches and athletic administrators. These training
programs assist in the awareness and preparedness of what actions to take should concussions
occur during practices or on game day. The courses demonstrate how to use the return to play rules
to keep the athletes from more serious injury. Because many are attracted to sport programs at a
young age, prevention is the primary focus at the youth and high school game level. Educating
young athletes is the most effective way to reduce concussions in any sport.
CDC and USA Football has partnered with football leagues to ensure that this educational skill set
on blocking and tackling is taught to every player. For this purpose, the athlete should retain the
knowledge and information to extend from youth training to college/university, then to the
professional play in the National Football League (NFL), or the American Football League (AFL).
The athlete will have learned these life saving concepts. Also, they will be more teachable at a
higher level in Heads Up Concussion training and testing. This is why coaching and training are
the best approaches to reducing concussion in

During the time period in which the story is set, slavery was beginning to come to a halt, leaving
many African Americans to travel up North in search of a better and easier life. The story depicts
the tragedies of slavery and the many hardships that African Americans had to overcome; in the

Brave New World Relevant Today Analysis
Even though Brave New World was a story told more than 70 years ago, I still believe it s
relevant today. I can see why people would argue that it s not because during that time the world
was definitely different than it is today, but the topics the story talked about seemed like they were
more toward my generation. The motto of the people in their worldwas to live a lifestyle based on
the concept of community, stability, and identity. It changed the whole outlook on what we
claim we live by which is life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. With the story being based on
sex and drugs, it makes you think; are we kind of heading toward that way of living because of
how relaxed we ve become with the idea of those things. There s so much more living to do and

Last Mile Essay
another matter that is to be decided if it s worth pursuing in gaining the consumer with and their
trust in the company, or if the additional cost that will be added to shipping is too much for the
effort for other retailers. As logistics of the last mile has been successfully evolving over the years,
there are still more issues that retailers want to resolve. One of the most significant issue is the fact
that the last mileis actually still a few hundreds of miles from the destination port to the stores, and
it is difficult to manage. Along with the growth in the evolving industry, there are pressures for
retailers to manage stock and provide efficient delivery. Managing stock from one distribution
center to another, and finally managing stock when the retailers are actually online business only
could be difficult.
The whole process comes down to the last mile and because it is also where the majority of
shipment s cost and complexity is, the last mile in the shipping process is where the growing
burden on the retailers exist. Retailers and logistics firms are forced to have fast delivery, with low
prices and great quality to compete with other retailers in the same industry. With more growth in
the industry, there are problems of managing stock. In 2013, products ordered online generated

Freedom Speech
By not allowing speech that is racially bigoted or offensive on campus we are sending the
message that that behavior and ideology is not accepted in the public sphere, we are not
allowing it to become a norm, and are thus discouraging and alienating those that want to use
that kind of harmful language. Delgado writes, When social pressures and rewards for racism
are absent.... prejudiced persons may even refrain from discriminating behavior to escape social
disapproval, (148). We can see examples throughout history of how protecting the free speech of
racists and white nationalists has caused injury to marginalized groups. One such example would
be with the court case Village of Skokie v. National Socialist Party of America; in which Nazi s
wanted to hold a peaceful public assembly in the town of Skokie, Illinois, where the majority of
the citizens were of Jewish descent, and at least ten percent were Holocaust survivors (Adams 277).
The Supreme Court of Illinois originally ruled that the Nazi Partywouldn t be allowed to march or

ruling went against the First Amendment. Even though the Court of Appeals agreed that for the
Skokie Villages Jewish community it would be a traumatic experience seeing the Nazi Party s
display, the swastika was considered a form of symbolic speech and therefore was protected
speech (Delgado 134). When we protect hate speech and give white

Similarities Between Mengzi And Shuangzi
Mangzi and Zhuangzi, both very influential Asian philosophers, have very differing opinions on
how one should might respond in an adverse situation such as a child in danger or a parent dying.
While Mengzi believes that human nature is good and someone in either of these situations would
feel bad, Zhuangzi takes a different perspective in which he accepts life as it is and would not
respond in a negative way if confronted with these situations.
To understand how Mengzi believes a human responds in certain events such as a parent dying or a
baby in danger, it is crucial to understand his metaphor of Sprouts. Mengzi believes that humans

relativity of beauty, People say that Mao Qiang and Lady Li are beautiful. But if fish saw them
they would dive deep, if birds saw them they would fly high, and if deer saw them they would cut

animals do not have the same perspective of beauty that we do and may find her disgusting. He
links this to critique Mengzi s sprouts of virtue, saying that the sprouts of benevolence and
righteousness look at right and wrong objectively, while Zhuangzi believes that right and wrong
are relative to the perspective that you take. He believes that people who are perfected can shed
their perspective and see that there is no right or wrong, there just is, and once you can embrace it,
you can mount the clouds and mists, straddle the sun and moon, and roam beyond the four seas.
Death and life make no difference to them, how much less the sprouts of benefit and harm (217).

The Effects Of Currency And Commodity On The Economy
As mentioned previously, the United States abandoned the gold standard and switched over to fiat
currency. The term fiat money is used to describe currency that is used because of a government s
order, or fiat, that the currency must be accepted as means of payment. (Investopedia) During the
gold standard, the countries moneywas back by gold, however since 1971 when the link between
dollar and gold was severed, the dollar s value has not been backed by a physical commodity. The
value of fiat money is derived from the relationship between supply and demand rather than the
value of the material that the money is made of. (Investopedia) When the government prints off so
much money it decreases its value making it worthless money this time in age. Normally
individuals hoard gold and silver when things are uncertain, which can make things harmful since it
limits currency flow on a large scale. While removing the relationship between currency and
commodity does not create worthless money , it helps control panic from causing greater economic
harm in times when individuals hoard fiat money and stop the wheels of commerce.
The Gold Standard was replaced in most countries because of the Great Depression in 1930s.
When facing an increase of unemployment and deflation in the 1930s, known as the Great
Depression, when it hit, the U.S. government tried to keep people from cashing in their deposits

Environmental Justice Is The Fair Treatment And...
Environmental Justice is the fair treatment and involvement of people of all races, national origin,
or income regarding the construction, implementation, and enforcing of environmental regulations
and policies (EPA). No single group of people should carry the full burden of pollution produced by
industry or commercial operations in their vicinity. The discourse on environmental justicecannot
proceed without mentioning environmental racism. According to the EPA, environmental racism is
the targeting of non white communities when locating harmful facilities, where racial minorities
are not a part of the decision making process. Environmental racism is one manifestation of
environmental injustice reinforced by economic and political institutions (Bullard, 559).
Above all, Environmental Justice has its roots in Warren County, North Carolina. In 1982,
demonstrations by community members with the NAACP in Warren County opposed the decision
to place a PCB landfill in an African American majority neighborhood. It resulted in over hundreds

United Church of Christ to undertake a study entitled, Toxic Wastes and Race in the United States .

country. It found race to be the most confounding determinant in siting hazardous waste facilities in
certain communities. Furthermore, the study

The financial crises of the 1780 s did not magically disappear when the feudal system was
abolished. In fact, France s financial situation was becoming worse, with prices of bread and
flour at an all time high. The Constituent Assembly, eager to solve France s economic problem,
brought in a new currency, called the Assignats. Effectively, each Assignat was an ownership
right to a piece of land, a kind of collateral from the government. Most of the land had previously
been owned by the Church, but was forfeited to the State under the Civil Constitution of the
Clergy, an act that proclaimed the Clergy had to swear allegiance to the State, rather than the
Pope, and therefore all their property and wages were put under State control. It was one of the
most successful reforms, as the new currency stabilised the economy for a critical period of
time, and released the pressure that was on France, financially. It was also during this period that
the trial by jury system was introduced, a system that still exists today. Twelve citizens were
used as a jury to decide on the guilt or innocence of their peers, in a public trial. It was a giant
step towards the democratic system of government that is used in the modern world. On August 4

The Articles failed to lead the country through war debts, multistate and international trade
agreements, and Shay s Rebellion. Like any war, the American Revolution was very expensive to
have, especially on their own turf. The country borrowed money from the richer states in the form
of war bonds, and when it was time to pay up, the country did not have the money, and defaulted on
repayment. Congress did have the ability to create coin, but no ability to back it up. Plus, without
having access to tax (the states kept rejecting Congress s proposal), there was no way to raise
revenue. After the war was over, multiple states made trade agreements with different, and at times,
conflicting countries. This was a dangerous game, because as states in the same unified country, a
foreign entity may see one state trading with a country that they do not associate with, and another
state may miss out on that trade opportunity that might benefit the country as a whole. The catalyst
that brought the entire Articles down is Shay s Rebellion. 1500 farmers marched to the
Massachusetts capital to ensure the state does not close their mortgages, and the state government
was too broke to muster up an army. After the other states refusal to help, Massachusetts had to use
private funds to pay an army to put it down. All in all the Articles of Confederationcreated a weak
central government, which led the Founders having to come together(O Connor 32 34).

Europe and specifically France had been after the land in Morocco for a long. As explained by
Furlong in his portion of A World s Work; The French Conquest of Morocco
, he states the reason for
European powers wanting control over Morocco.
Morocco is a white man s country once and a half the size of France four and a half times the size
of New England and the most productive state of North Africa perhaps the most productive area of
the entire African continent. A key to the Mediterranean almost touching Europe and a veritable
market garden for that continent contiguous to the
French territory of Algeria and but seven hundred miles from Marseilles with double the

including the snow crowned classic Atlas range which shuts off or cools the heated winds that

Morocco is indeed the golden orange of Barbary and cannot escape the international grab bag of

Kelley questions if the enfranchisement of women would ve led to the Georgia Legislature
refusing at every session for the last three years to stop the work in the mills of children under
twelve years of age (lines 56 58). This rhetorical question is aimed at the men who continuously
vote to allow twelve year old s and under to work in mills which were known for its horrendous
working conditions and lack of safety. Therefore, she presumes that mothers and teachers are
the ones who would repeal the law in favor for their children; The men are not standing up for
the rights of the youth. She proves her purpose by establishing that men should reflect on
whether they had a role in allowing child labor to fester for years and taking advantage of people
who cannot speak up for themselves. Kelley continues her questioning by asking if the New
Jersey Legislature would ve stopped the shameful repeal bill enabling girls of fourteen years to

Childhood Psychological Analysis
Currently, I am 20 years old and married with the frequent thought on having my own children in
very near future. However, my parents are reminders of a couple without trust and a healthy
relationship who had children they couldn t care for. The result of their relationship, the endless
amount of emotional traumatizing and life alternating mistakes with their children and each other
that still have an effect for years to come. I ll probably raise the children isolation from the
extended familyfor the majority of their early years for sake of their malleable minds not being
marred by my brutal father s side or the drug addicts offspring that is my mom s side of my family.

Although, I didn t have the vocabulary to express all my feelings and thoughts, I began
recognizing a wrongness between my parents at 4 years old. Growing up with fighting parents, I

parents own faults they won t happy. Reexamining the 4 years old s termed wrongness between my
parents in my teenage years, I assumed my parents couldn t navigate their own feels or they didn t
have the capacity to react positively to the stress within their relationship. Additional evidence, the
strain relationships they also had with their own broken extended families at the time showed they
both lacked the skills of cultivating and sustaining most close long term relationships. However, my
parents both did have longevity in their friendships. My parents broke up when I was six, my mother

of change to the fact that change is the opportunity for something better, as a child I didn t have
the option of changing my environment from the places I ve lived in with my mother and
various male strangers besides running away for a short time before hunger or my siblings
brought me back. The chaotic lifestyle from 6 years old until I was 18 years old, encourages me
as an adult to love myself before anyone else. My mother spent years putting herself down, I would
never want my children to watch me suffering in my own unhappiness while struggle to care for
them then eventually breaking down at times leaving them with no

Kim Jong-Il Father
Essay 4 Kim Jong Il s succession of his father, Kim Il Sung, was not a simple process. Unlike
North Korea s allies the USSR and China, North Korea s system of succession was well
established and very thorough. North Korea s system was not based on the idea that Jong Il
would just become the leader of the country. As stated in Lynn s Bipolar Orders, each stage of
Jong Il s ascension would test his political talents in order to prove that he would be able to take
control of North Koreaeffectively. The process would take many years and started long before the
public knew that he would be the one to succeed Kim Il Sung. Kim Jong Il s journey of succession
started in the 1960 s. When Jong Il graduated from the University of Kim Il Sung in 1964, he
immediately took up a position in the Korean Worker s Party (KWP) (Lynn, 2007). As he worked
with these organization, he gained experience as well as power (Lynn, 2007). Jong Il held several
positions within the KWP(Lynn, 2007). In 1970, Jong Il was already starting to make changes in

In 1972, Jong Il joined his father on several of his sixtieth birthday celebrations (Lynn, 2007). He
took the opportunity to spread the Juche ideology around with his father (Lynn, 2007). Within the
time period, he started to gain support from several of the members of the KWP (Lynn, 2007).
This would culminate with him taking the position of Head of the Organization and Guidance
Department in 1973 (Lynn, 2007). This was most prestigious position that Jong Il would acquire
before he would start becoming the true successor to Il Sung. The KWP Politburo decided that
in February 1974, Jong Il would be officially designated as the successor to Il Sung after years of
proving his political skill (Lynn, 2007). This decision would fast track Jong Il s pathway onto
taking over North Korea s leadership

Sex Workers in Canada Essay
Sometimes, the term sex work is used, as well as prostitution . But whichever term we choose to
say, it does not eliminate the stigma attached to it. Cases such as the Bedford V. Canada Case (144)
indulges into the conspiracy of sex work and challenges certain sections of the Criminal Code that
make business in relation to prostitutionillegal. Ideally, a sex worker has a career just as a teacher or
lawyer. For this reason, their human rightsand dignity should be protected by the Canadian Charter
of Rights and Freedomsas are other professions. However, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms as
well as the Criminal Code do not seek to protect sex workers, yet, they seek to do otherwise using

Statistics Canada says sex trade is job that is at a high risk since 2000. Homicide in Canada
report had said that since 1991, 73 sex workers were murdered on the job. Sadly, this trend
remains today. In 2007, 15 sex workers were reported killed as a direct result of their profession,
up and average of 7 per year for the previous decade .1 Research has proven that the murder scale
for sex workers represents roughly 60 to 120 times the murder rate of adult women in the
general Canadian population .2 Sex work is a very controversial topic and many individuals are
passionate about what they believe. Regardless of the moral arguments, beliefs and disbeliefs,
every person in Canada owns the right to have their human rights as well as their health respected
one hundred percent. The Courts of Canada have focused on the precise question of whether or
not Canada s current laws abide by the Constitution and serve to protect the human rights of the
persons engaging in sex work. Although prostitution is legal in Canada and it is legal to be a sex
worker, it is difficult for them to actually engage in such activity without risking criminal charges
that come after it and breaking the law. The Criminal Code seeks to make almost every activity
linked to prostitution illegal and forbids prostitution in nearly every private, or even public place.
Four sections listed in the Criminal Code covers activities in relation to prostitution. Section 210

Advantages Of The South In The Civil War
My essay is going to be about the advantages that the North and the South had on each other. In my
essay i m also going to talk about political, social, economic and the population. Advantages that the
North had were they had more train tracks and they had more people in the North than the South
did. The train tracks were important and that helped the Northby transport the soldiers to the South
instead making the soldiers walk and make them get tired. The North had more people that means
you have a better chance of winning the Civil War. The North has gunpowder was imported to the
North. Since the North controlled the Navy. The South can make all the food that was needed. The

Magnetic Resonance Imaging ( Mri )
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a powerful medical imaging modality which gives high
spatial resolution images without radiation risk. MRI acquires signals from hydrogen protons of
subject. Under external static magnetic field (B0), the spins of hydrogen protons precess with a
Larmor frequency, while they align parallel to the direction of B0. The spins align antiparallel to
the direction of B0 when additional radio frequency (RF) pulse with the Larmer requency is ap
plied. After RF pulse is removed, the protons relax through the recovery of mag netization
parallel to the direction of B0 (longitudinal or T1 relaxation) and the de cay of transverse
magnetization caused by the de phasing of the spins (transverse or T2 relaxation) [4]. The tissue
specific parameters of proton density, T1 relaxa tion, and T2 relaxation gives contrast to the MR
images. Due to this principle, MRI gives great spatial resolution for soft tissues which contain
more water molecules. The major drawback of this technique is its relatively poor sensitivity, due
to the weak signal from protons [5]. T1 and T2 contrast agents which shorten relaxation times
have been developed to overcome its poor sensitivity and improve specifici ty. Gd(III) chelates are
the most widely used T1 contrast agents in clinical applica tions [6]. Although Gd(III) chelates
have good paramagnetic property and short en T1 relaxation, the toxicity of gadolinium ions and
their rapid renal clearance limit their use [7]. To reduce

Persuasive Essay On Parents At Home With Your Senior
The advice I am about to give you parents is priceless. It might fix any conflicts that may occur at
home with your senior. You need to listen carefully. Take notes. Lots of notes. Everyone knows
that you want be that parent with the honor student. You know, the one that drives around with
that sticker on their mini van. Don t deny it. Well, as a fellow senior, ill give you the key to
making your child good enough to brag to all your friends about. All parents care about their
child s GPA ... am I right? when approaching the seriousness of GPA with your senior you need to
lay down the rules. Make sure that you turn your beautiful house into a prison of sorts. Your
child needs to be told that they can not leave the house at any point in time (except for school)
unless their GPA is well above a 4.0. I mean an average GPA is obviously not acceptable. While
your senior might get angry at this, explain to them over and over that you just care about their
future. Making your child sit in a room for hours doing unnecessary busy work will most
definitely make them the star student you have always dreamed of parenting. Remember, no
friends and/or social life is the best for your child. Grades are the only thing that matter.
Technology is a huge part of students lives nowadays. Especially seniors. They have basically
grown up in the era of new technology. Thats if you have let them have any. Remember that
technology has completely ruined your senior and that you need to remove all

Swaziland vs. GMOs In Swaziland, agriculture plays a huge role in all of the individuals lives.

security. By adopting strategies such as a clear separation of the field within GM crops and
local crops that are grown or using greenhouses can decrease the probability of genes migrating
to conventional crops. In contribution to the contamination of my local crops, I feared that once
the drought and the famine ended, my export with the European Nation will be jeopardized. If

such a transfer will disrupt my trade and cause me to lose my export markets in the European

grown and sold in the country cannot be lawfully sold in some foreign markets. When questioning
the European Nation about the possibility of exporting GMO crops, the nation decided that they
will not accept GMO crops for any reason. Fortunately, if I do accept the United States offer, and I
lose my export trade with the European nation, the United States offered a trade with them, which
indeed creates a significant investment in my country and it generates several jobs to the

negatives things technology does to people. For example, the violent games online make people
aggressive. Watching or virtually participating in graphic violence is not healthy... Technology

Contemporary Sociological Theory Final Exam
Contemporary Sociological Theory Final Exam
Section I, Question 1: In Shearing and Stenning s From the Panopticon to Disney World, the world
renowned fantasy amusement park is revealed to be a compelling embodiment of Michel Foucault
s ideas regarding the disciplinary society. In Foucault s writings on the prison panopticon his idea of
a perfected disciplinary institution of a disciplinary society Foucault describes how inmates (or
Disney s guests) behavior and movements is overseen and tightly controlled (Dillon, p. 371). This
level of control is clear from the moment you enter Disney: barriers, guardrails, and directions
guide you to preordained locations, and Disney employees and rides reinforce those restrictions and
guidances at numerous points throughout your visit (Shearing, p. 301 302). More significantly, in
the panopticon design, inmates are always under surveillance. Further, inmates are aware they are
always under surveillance even if they cannot see their supervisor so that they begin monitoring
their own actions to conform with rules and restrictions (Dillon, p. 371). At Disney, once a guest
breaks the rules or regulations, they quickly become aware that they are being surveilled. Park
employees in unassuming costumes seemingly unrelated to security or rule enforcement are trained
to enforce rules and hold guests accountable as soon as they act out of line, making clear to guests
that they are always being surveilled even if they cannot see the supervisors

The Pillars Of Salt
In Pillars of Salt , a compilation of... true crime miscellanies (Cotton Mather, 3), the author refers
to a man s heinous actions as being ungodly (Pillars of Salt, 6). In current times such actions
would quickly be called immoral and this is an idea that has reverberated throughout the text. This
can be analyzed to convey the significance of how god in relation to moralitywas an idea that was
deeply intertwined at that time and locale. Furthermore, submitting to god as one s savior was
considered an accepted form of repenting even if this did not occur until an individual s final
moments (Pillars of Salt, 8). In Pillars of Salt, a tale is told of a young woman who kills her
own child as she had conceived and birthed it out of wedlock (Pillars of Salt, 4 5). The theme of
god and morality play a strong factor suggesting that it was due to this that she was led to murder
her own infant. Community members attempted to contact her in jail with the hope of having her
declare Jesus as her savior so that all would be forgiven (Pillar of Salt, 5). In this period, which was

  • 2. Gender Discrimination In Crawling Across Broken Glass Deep into Discrimination Have you ever walked into a public place and knew everyone was judging you? You felt the glaring stares as you walked with your head down to the back of the room. As you sat, you could hear the whispers and unspoken thoughts that stirred around you. You knew you didn t fit in. You knew you were not liked. You knew you were not wanted. This has happened to many people due to harsh discrimination based on nationality, race, and gender. As I ve grown up, I ve faced this experience many times. I was adopted, along with three siblings from multiple countries by Caucasian parents. A lot of people have positive judgments, but plenty others have negative ones. It can get to the point where nowhere feels safe and it can feel like you re alone. A lot of research has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People have written hundreds of stories such as, The Help, by Kathryn Stockett which tells a story of many injustices based on race, Crawling Across Broken Glass, which tells a story of a woman who beat the odds of gender discrimination, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne which is a story based on religious differences. Some books even take a more obvious approach such as, The Face of Discrimination, by Vincent J. Rosigno and Religion or Belief, Discrimination and Equality. Newspapers and magazines have written thousands of articles based on discrimination of all kinds. Cartoons and comics have storylines based on the horrible circumstances many people face daily due to their appearance. I can add personal experiences and share a few other peoples thoughts regarding discrimination. How has discrimination improved over the years? Is it still an issue? ... • 3. Examples Of Colonialism In A Passage To India In A Passage to India, the colonialists are definitely the stronger race and have authority over the locals. This authority gives them power which they use against the inferior race, the Indians (Boehmer 1995: 10). The Indians are considered weak, outcast, and second rate. They are believed to be different from Europeans, especially the English. Even though the British might have their own different categories like social class and religions, they are united as opposed to the local natives (Boehmer 1995: 67). There is very little social integration between the colonialists and the Indians. Yet there are incidents in the novel that show that the Indians are more sophisticated than the colonialists. Forster had spent a long time in Indiabefore... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are not to blame, they have not a dog s chance we should be like them if we settled here (Forster 1979: 176). Mr Turton states that he has never known anything but disaster result when English people and Indians attempt to be intimate socially (Forster 1979: 182). Contact, in his opinion, would be allowed, as well as courtesy, but intimacy should not be allowed. Such intimacy is only negative. Only mutual respect and esteem can enable them to socialize with each other. The British feel that it vital for them to stick to the unwritten rules on how they behave towards the locals. These unwritten rules, which the locals are bound to follow in their relations with the colonialists, safeguard the interests of the British, making them the white superiors. Any modification of these rules would risk the whole system ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Christopher Abacan Research Paper Christopher AbacanPeriod D Opening: Good morning, ladies and gentleman! I m Christopher Abacan, and I ll be teaching you guys about architecture. More specifically, the difference between American and Japanese architecture. Hey, this isn t as boring as it sounds. This is Christopher Abacan presenting here! If any of you have ever sat through one of my presentations, you ll know it ll be hilarious. This, my friends, will (probably) be fun. Body: For the sake of simplicity, I ll only be talking about the most recent trends in architecture at their respective cultures. Going into general architectural styles in the two nations would be impossible for many reasons. Architecture is prominent in every civilization, as it is useful for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Let s talk about Japan. The nation is known for being much more technologically advanced than the U.S., so naturally the buildings would be different, right? Sort of. Notice that the post in postmodernism is just a prefix that means after. That means we ll have to talk about modernism. Modernism is, as I said before, a more futuristic looking style of art *Clears throat* I mean architecture. The prefix of after doesn t mean that America is more advanced than Japan. This has nothing to do with chronology. Modernism is a type of architecture/art that is made up of one piece of material, or designed to look that way. The design of these buildings looks cool, and is usually efficient, but it lacks the artistic flair of some other styles. *Play slide 3 of slideshow* As seen in literally half of the pictures, nature is ingrained in a lot of the structures. Other than being artistic, this traces back to what I said in the beginning of my presentation. It also holds the extra bonus of being a way to be religious . Yes, I just quoted myself. Don t judge. The traditional religion of Japan, Shinto believed that nature was very important. The main thing that is associated with the religion is that everything in nature has kami in it, which are like little spirits. The way nature is ingrained in Japanese is able to flow easily with modernism. Since the architectural style is usually either cubic or spherical, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Where The Wild Things Are Again Analysis Since the dawn of time, humans have learned to communicate through certain writings or stories. Many individuals have benefitted from the gift of reading that we take so much for granted these days. The hunger for knowledge is a basic human instinct that has took place and influenced many people s lives, including mine. But I ask myself these questions. Is knowledge reading, or is reading knowledge? Can reading influence your life choices? Well here I am, thinking back on my childhood clouded by parental disputes and my adventure as a reader and how it has influenced my life today. My reading experiences as a child up to the present have had a great influence on me. My goal in this paper is to take you through a journey of my experiences... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My family moved just about every other year, which made my life full of new experiences and adventure! Which brings me to my next memorable reading experience. My dad introduced me to a series that was important to him and his childhood. My Grandpa read him the same series as he went to bed and my father wanted to pass on the tradition as I will to my children as well. My all time favorite book series has remained The Lord of the Rings since my father read it to me on one of the few nights he had off work. That series really spoke to me as a child who spent his whole life moving places and experiencing new things. I felt like Bilbo taking his first step outside of Hobbiton, not knowing anything of what mysterious new wonders or terrors awaited his company. At the time I was moving to Colorado from the middle of nowhere in New York. When Bilbo was on his journey to the Lonely Mountain it really spoke to me personally since I was starting my journey to a state full of some of the most rigid, marvelous mountains you ll ever see. I finished the book with my dad on the way to colorado and I wanted more. The adventure excited me more than anything else ever had. I loved the thrill of not knowing what was ahead and not turning back. Walking into a strange new place, full of strange new people can be thrilling yet terrifying. I had become accustomed to it. • 6. The Supreme Courts Failures Culminated Together For more than decades the court has continued to be pivotal in some of the biggest decisions for the social identity of America. Specifically noting that for many years the majority of Americans supported things that shaped the identity of American history (i.e. Slavery, Gay marriage, Sodomy, etc.). Erwin Chemernisky continues to examine whether the courts roles in major social issues have failed the American people or not. Erwin continues to explain that the supreme courts failures culminated together, are not only a failure for race issues in America, but also a failure to interpret the constitutioneffectively (21). These broad generalizations of the court flourish throughout his book, however, it is final assessment of the court that leaves the most to be contended with. Specifically noting that overall the court has done way more harm than good with regards to addressing minority issues an in wake of the warren court has continued to make flawed decisions in favor of the majority (53). This rhetoric must be addressed and analyzed by first looking to professor Erwin s view of the courts take on minority, secondly analyzing his take on the court before and after the warren era and lastly addressing his support and analysis of the purpose of judicial review. Through this analysis it will become evident that Erwin Chemernisky has misinterpreted the supreme courts position as a protector of minority rights instead of the upholder and interpreter of the constitution and law. ... • 7. Pros And Cons Of California Town Hall Meetings A California town is being threatened with a lawsuit over a 12 hour prayer rally held outside the city hall for a 6 year old girl who was shot last week, and for an upcoming town hall meeting at a property belonging to a Christian organization. City mayor Anthony Silva received a letter from the American Humanist Association and Stockton Area Atheists and Freethinkers, telling him that the prayer rally held at a public property violated the Constitution. The rally was dedicated to the 6 year old child who was wounded in gunfire aimed at the car she was riding with her mother. The mayor had organized the rally in hopes of ending homicidal violence, of which the little girl was 40th victim. My city had its 40th homicide. So we are in desperate need of immediate action. Residents want something... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mayors and other public officials cannot use the machinery of the state to push their religious agendas. Using the state to promote prayer violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment and alienates community members of minority faiths and of no faith, AHA senior counsel Monica Miller said in a statement. The letter also complained that the town hall meetings should not take place at properties of Christian organizations such as of Christian Life Center, where it is set to take place on November 30. There is similarly no secular purpose for holding town hall meetings in religious Christian venues, especially when there are ample secular government venues available. And clearly, there is no secular purpose in having a city sponsored town hall meeting hosted by a Christian organization. The city s rejection of the alternative of wholly secular [venues] makes it very clear that its purpose of holding the town hall meetings in churches is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Green Day Punk Rock Bands Introduction Punk rock trio from Berkley, Green Day is on the music scene for a whole eternity. On the radio and other platforms we heard the hits innumerable times that have become anthems of modern punk rock, such as the Boulevard of Broken Dreams , American Idiot , 21 Guns , Good Riddance and Basket Case . Over time, Green Day became an icon of the punk rock genre, which many listeners like. Everything started more than twenty years ago, in 1987, when 15 years old Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Pritchard formed a band called Sweet Children. After some time, they were joined by Frank Edwin Wright Jr. and TrГ© Cool (who later replaced the original drummer). This year, Green Day celebrated two big anniversaries: 21 years since they... HAARP stands for the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, which is an ionosphere research program that was funded by a combination of the U.S. Air Force, the University of Alaska, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and the U.S. Navy. This information comes from their own website. Hold on... They are funded by DARPA? That s weird. What s a defense agency funding an ionosphere research program? Are they considering HAARP a weapon? The digisonde is used to target objects on a double three dimensional plane. As for the magnetometers, they measure magnetization in the ionosphere to indicate polarity and charge amount. The problem we have here is that we have a weapon that has been used for environmental warfare. True, the main purpose the contractors had in mind was to detect anomalies in the ionosphere by bursting it with energy, but if you just think back to science class, when you excite atoms, they collide and after some duration of time, cause lots of heat. Of course, this is limited, but let s say you want to play dangerous. • 10. Designing A Bridge Made From Commercial Pasta Introduction The objective of the project is to design a bridge made from commercial pasta that is able to withhold a weight of 1134 grams (2.5 pounds) over a period of five minutes. Upon evaluation, the efficiency will be taken into consideration for the overall result. This makes choosing a design and craftsmanship crucial to the overall performance. The given constraints really makes it challenging however they have to be followed and considered before beginning the preliminary stages of designing. Our goal as a team from the start was to build a bridgethat not only held the weight for the required time, but also be the lightest structure in the class. Our final design took a lot of work to reach. After four prototypes and combining aspects from all of them, we finally came up with a design that we felt would help us achieve our goal. Our final design most closely resembles a Camelback Pratt Truss. We came across this design in a picture of the Woolsey Bridge located in the outskirts of Woolsey, Arkansas. After studying the real life construction of this particular bridge, we found that if we manipulate it as close as possible with pasta, we ended up getting better results. The following report will go through the engineering design process we used throughout this project. Design Ideas We researched several pasta bridge designs from several pasta bridge competitions that have been held across the world. We also researched the different designs that actual bridges ... For example, for electrical needs, I would suggest the city have a solar power plant, but on those desperate times, energy would be bought from other electrical plants from nearby towns or states. Water purification and a wastewater treatment plants would be necessary in order to provide the citizens and visitors with clean healthy water. The homes will be built more northern and away from the river. Towards the southern part of the river will only be green space and nature preserves. The city will have a medium density IV. Businesses/Industry/Commercial Tourism will be the major money catcher on the lake and riverside areas. Tourists will be attracted to the city s beauty and fun activities (see aesthetics). Although tourism brings in a lot of money, small animal and vegetable farms will be maintained, providing the city with some of its food portion. Gardens will also be kept at most of the homes. • 12. Colonialism and Imperialism Exposed in Shooting an... Destructive Colonization Exposed in Shooting an Elephant and Heart of Darkness As a man is captured, his first instinct is to try and break free from his shackles and chains. Primal urges such as this often accompany humans when they are forced, as in capture, to rely on their most basic instincts to survive. In this manner, natives in Africa acted upon instinct when the Europeans arrived to take their land and freedom. The short story Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell and the novel Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad revolve around the time when colonialism had a foothold in many parts of the world. This setting is one of conflict with the native peoples in these countries who are fighting and rebelling against the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This unrest needs to be subdued so that control will remain over the conquered. In this way, Orwell needed to exterminate an elephant because it had become wild and had killed a native man. However, the natives had not shown much interest while [the elephant] was merely ravaging their homes, but it was different now that [the elephant] [is] going to be shot. (Century, 146) Shooting this elephant has much significance because it illustrates the control over the natives that the colonizers had. Orwell needed to kill the elephant in order to support his position of a law figure in his town. The elephant was unruly to begin with, but it also served as a reminder for Orwell s constituents about who was in power, and who had control. • 16. A Career in Social Work A Career in Social Work I chose to do research on a career as a social worker because, based on my Holland and MBTI code, this career best combines the conventional, social, and realistic aspects of my personality. I also feel that this career choice corresponds with my personal values, as it will allow me to channel my communication and problem solving skills towards helping disadvantaged individuals and families. Entering the social work field requires considerable preparation. In California, as in most states, a bachelor s degree in social work (BSW), as well as the completion of additional coursework hours in areas such as child abuse assessment and alcohol/chemical dependency, is the minimum requirement to become a Licensed Bachelor s Social Worker (LBSW). An LBSW must work under the supervision of a Licensed Master Social Worker or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licenses which both require a master s degree in social work (MSW). Most California State University campuses in the southern California area offer accredited degrees in social work. In particular, the University of Southern California offers a top ranked online MSW program. Full time social workers must also be prepared to work 40 hours per week, occasionally working evenings and weekends to meet deadlines, meet with clients, or handle emergencies. The book was originally written in Greek therefore it has been translated into English and several other languages. • 18. Disadvantages Of Income Tax An income tax is a rate charged on the income of individuals as well as business (companies or other legal entities). Individual income taxes often tax the total earning of the individual, while corporate tax often taxes net profit of the company. Different tax systems exist, with varying degrees of taxincidence. Income taxation can be progressive, proportional or regressive. Tax systems define income differently such as inclusion of windfall earnings, and often allow notional reductions of income such as a reduction based on number of children supported. Generally the income tax is employed in a progressive manner, meaning as one earns a higher salary a higher proportion (percentage) of his income is taxed. The idea of a progressive income tax has garnered support from economists and political scientists of many different ideologies, from Adam Smith in The Wealth of Nations to Karl Marx in The Communist Manifesto. Income taxes used in most countries around the world are characterized by a progressive scheme, but are not without criticism. The Disadvantages The implementation of an income tax system is very complex, especially when trying to regulate the rich and the corporations. So complicated in fact that an entire industry exists to simply monitor and control the system. The government must enforce every line of the tax code, for example in the US the IRS requires 90,000 tax accountants. Since there is a disturbance in the boneremodeling stage, the bones may look enlarged but it is brittle, softer, and weaker which leads to fractures and deformities (MedicineNet). This disease is a chronic bone disorder, which means that it is long term and cannot be prevented or cured by medications. During this phase, the rate of bone turnover is increased as to twenty times the normal rate. The second stage is called the mixed phase. In this phase, the osteoblasts increase because it is trying to keep up with the bone resorption by making new bone. The wide open space seems almost eerie until a humpback whale gently swimming sings his song, and the space fills with wonder, until a disturbance arises. Cetaceans evolved to use sound as their way of sensing the environment, navigating, foraging, and selecting mates. Anthropogenic sounds have negative effects on marine life. Humans produce their own underwater sounds through activities such as aircraft overflights, boats and ships (vessels), tourism, stationary offshore activities, air gun firing, sonars, explosions, and methods to control movement of marine life (W. Johnson Richardson and Bernd WГјrsig, 1997). Many studies have discovered vessels as the main contributor of anthropogenic noise. It is difficult to study the effects of anthropogenic noise on cetaceans because it is hard for scientists to see the effects on communities in aquatic environments. Nevertheless, researchers are finding new methods to study cetacean acoustics, which results in better details, but it is still hard to understand the long term effects of anthropogenic noise on these mammals. My writing will focus equally on concussions in football athletes at all levels. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has created training courses for coaches and athletic administrators. These training programs assist in the awareness and preparedness of what actions to take should concussions occur during practices or on game day. The courses demonstrate how to use the return to play rules to keep the athletes from more serious injury. Because many are attracted to sport programs at a young age, prevention is the primary focus at the youth and high school game level. Educating young athletes is the most effective way to reduce concussions in any sport. CDC and USA Football has partnered with football leagues to ensure that this educational skill set on blocking and tackling is taught to every player. For this purpose, the athlete should retain the knowledge and information to extend from youth training to college/university, then to the professional play in the National Football League (NFL), or the American Football League (AFL). The National Constituent Assembly solved some of Frances short term problems, but caused significant discontent due to its inability to resolve long term problems, that had been destroying France economically, politically and socially. There were some groups of society that were quite content with the reforms of the Constituent Assembly, such as a majority of the bourgeoisie, peasants who gained from the abolition of the Feudal system, and some members of the first and second Estate. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The financial crises of the 1780 s did not magically disappear when the feudal system was abolished. In fact, France s financial situation was becoming worse, with prices of bread and flour at an all time high. The Constituent Assembly, eager to solve France s economic problem, brought in a new currency, called the Assignats. Effectively, each Assignat was an ownership right to a piece of land, a kind of collateral from the government. Most of the land had previously been owned by the Church, but was forfeited to the State under the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, an act that proclaimed the Clergy had to swear allegiance to the State, rather than the Pope, and therefore all their property and wages were put under State control. It was one of the most successful reforms, as the new currency stabilised the economy for a critical period of time, and released the pressure that was on France, financially. It was also during this period that the trial by jury system was introduced, a system that still exists today. Twelve citizens were used as a jury to decide on the guilt or innocence of their peers, in a public trial. It was a giant step towards the democratic system of government that is used in the modern world. On August 4 1789, the Declaration of the Rights of Man, was proclaimed. It was an almost radical declaration, based on freedoms and human rights, and with it came the abolition of Feudal privileges. It included freedom of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 220+ years that this country has been founded, the powers of the federal government have grown exponentially. The Framers, influential white men from the original 13 colonies(minus Rhode Island), consisted of those who wanted a strong central government and those for strong state rights. Together, through a series of compromises, the Framers created the original unamend Constitution. The Articles failed to lead the country through war debts, multistate and international trade agreements, and Shay s Rebellion. Like any war, the American Revolution was very expensive to have, especially on their own turf. The country borrowed money from the richer states in the form of war bonds, and when it was time to pay up, the country did not have the money, and defaulted on repayment. Congress did have the ability to create coin, but no ability to back it up. Plus, without having access to tax (the states kept rejecting Congress s proposal), there was no way to raise revenue. After the war was over, multiple states made trade agreements with different, and at times, conflicting countries. This was a dangerous game, because as states in the same unified country, a foreign entity may see one state trading with a country that they do not associate with, and another state may miss out on that trade opportunity that might benefit the country as a whole. The catalyst that brought the entire Articles down is Shay s Rebellion. 1500 farmers marched to the Massachusetts capital to ensure the state does not close their mortgages, and the state government was too broke to muster up an army. After the other states refusal to help, Massachusetts had to use private funds to pay an army to put it down. All in all the Articles of Confederationcreated a weak central government, which led the Founders having to come together(O Connor 32 34). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

MRI acquires signals from hydrogen protons of subject. Under external static magnetic field (B0), the spins of hydrogen protons precess with a Larmor frequency, while they align parallel to the direction of B0. The spins align antiparallel to the direction of B0 when additional radio frequency (RF) pulse with the Larmer requency is ap plied. After RF pulse is removed, the protons relax through the recovery of mag netization parallel to the direction of B0 (longitudinal or T1 relaxation) and the de cay of transverse magnetization caused by the de phasing of the spins (transverse or T2 relaxation) [4]. The tissue specific parameters of proton density, T1 relaxa tion, and T2 relaxation gives contrast to the MR images. Due to this principle, MRI gives great spatial resolution for soft tissues which contain more water molecules. The major drawback of this technique is its relatively poor sensitivity, due to the weak signal from protons [5]. T1 and T2 contrast agents which shorten relaxation times have been developed to overcome its poor sensitivity and improve specifici ty. Gd(III) chelates are the most widely used T1 contrast agents in clinical applica tions [6].
