This document summarizes a seminar presentation on magnetic bearings. It begins by defining a magnetic bearing as a bearing that supports a load using magnetic levitation without physical contact. It then lists the key elements of a magnetic bearing system as electromagnets, a rotor, sensors, controllers, and amplifiers. The working principle is described as using electromagnets to attract and position a ferromagnetic rotor through feedback control of its position. There are two main types: active magnetic bearings which require specialized control systems, and passive magnetic bearings which do not require control systems. Applications discussed include flywheels, maglev trains, watt-hour meters, grinding machines, high-precision instruments, and turbo-compressors.
Advances in magnetic material, control have contributed to the realization of completely non-contacting relating systems employing magnetic bearings to eliminate the last remaining wear out prone element. Current efforts are being directed more towards reducing the size, weight and complexity of these devices to achieve complete acceptance. The AMB technology has been briefly reviewed including its advantages, components, working principles, cost and performance. Some design and Implementation issues have been also discussed.
The taking into consideration the above advantages, the adoption of magnetic bearings in industry will be more economical, efficient and environment friendly compared to the conventional bearings. The authors believe that AMB systems are still relatively more expensive than conventional mechanical bearings; therefore the massive used of AMB in industries is still prohibitive despite of the many benefits offered. The AMBs will still not completely replace conventional bearings in rotating machinery in the near future. However, AMB can find its place well in a limited volume of high performance rotating machines.

Fiction is a form of narrative, one of the four rhetorical modes of discourse. Fiction-writing also has modes for fiction-writing: action, exposition, description, dialogue, summary, and transition (Morrell 2006, p. 127). Author Peter Selgin refers to methods, including action, dialogue, thoughts, summary, scene, and description (Selgin 2007, p. 38). Currently, there is no consensus within the writing community regarding the number and composition of fiction-writing modes and their uses.
Description is the fiction-writing mode for transmitting a mental image of the particulars of a story. Together with dialogue, narration, exposition, and summarization, description is one of the most widely recognized of the fiction-writing modes. As stated in Writing from A to Z, edited by Kirk Polking, description is more than the amassing of details; it is bringing something to life by carefully choosing and arranging words and phrases to produce the desired effect (Polking 1990, p. 106). The most appropriate and effective techniques for presenting description are a matter of ongoing discussion among writers and writing coaches.Fiction is a form of narrative, one of the four rhetorical modes of discourse. Study of Permanent Magnent Synchronous MacnineRajeev Kumar
With respect of designing a PMSG, the permanent magnetic pole lies on the rotor and armature winding are in the inner part of stator that is electrically connected to the load. Armature winding consists of the set of three conductors which has phase difference 120 derg apart to each other and providing a uniform force or torque on the generator’s rotor. To operate PMGS, it is connected to wind turbine through a shaft without gear box and rotate at slow speed. This uniform torque produced by the resultant magnetic flux which induces current in the armature winding. The stator magnetic field combined spatially with rotor magnetic flux and rotates as the same speed of the rotor. So the two magnetic fields synchronously rotate in PGSM to maintain the relative motion of rotor and stator.
Thus the permanent magnets rotates at constant speed without any DC excitation system, which means it has not required any slip rings and contact brushes to make it more reliability or efficient.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

2. INTRODUCTION
A magnetic bearing is a bearing which supports a load using
magnetic levitation.
A magnetic bearing support the moving machinery without
physical contact.
Magnetic bearing support the highest speed of any kind of
shaft.
By monitoring the position of the shaft, the magnetic
bearing keeps the rotor in a desired position.
3. Elements of the System
Electromagnets
Rotor
Sensor
Controller
amplifier
5. The working of magnetic bearings is based upon the principle that
an electromagnet will attract ferromagnetic material.
A ferromagnetic rotor can be supported in a magnetic field
generated in the bearing electromagnet stator.
Since the nature tendency of the stator is to attract the rotor until it
makes contact, some control action is required to modulate the
magnetic field and maintain the rotor in the desired position.
The most common type of control involves the feedback of shaft
position.
This information is then used by the control system to modulate the
magnetic field through power amplifiers, so that the desired rotor
position is maintained even under changing shaft load conditions.
6. There are two types
Active magnetic bearing (AMB)
Passive magnetic bearing (PMB)
Active magnetic bearing :
Require a specialized control and software.
They are comprised of three distinct parts : the bearing
itself, the electronic control system, and the auxiliary
bearings.
The purpose of the electronic control system is to control
the position of the rotor by varying the current in the
electro magnets.
The auxiliary bearings are used to support the rotor
when the machine is stationary.
7. Passive magnetic bearing
Passive magnetic bearings (PMB) do not require control hardware or
software for operation.
They have lower stiffness and damping characteristics than similar size
active bearings.
Passive bearings can be constructed with permanent magnets.
8. Advantages:
Low wear rate and low vibration.
Possibility of adjust position between the shaft and the
bearing.
Absence of mechanical contact between shaft and
bearing.
High rotational speeds.
No lubrication is required.
Disadvantages :
Magnetic bearing have a specific load capacity lower than
other bearing.
Magnetic bearing require power to drive the control
system, sensor and electromagnets.
High initial cost.
9. Applications
Flywheel :
To reduce the rotational loss
Increase the life of the shaft
It detect the overload condition and
instantly shut down the machining operation
Maglev trains :
It provide the typical speed of 350kmh
150 mm levitation over the guideway track
Stator : track, rotor : magnets on trains
10. Other Applications:
These bearings are also commonly used watt-hour meters by electric
utilities to measure home power consumption.
Magnetic bearings can be used in the grinding machine to improve
the grinding performance.
Magnetic bearings are also used in the high precision instrument
and support the equipment in vacuum.
These are also used in the turbo-compressor rotor.
