Car Seatbelts
The number one cause of death in U.S. children are motor vehicle accidents, but many of these can be
prevented. Buckling children into car seats, booster seats and seat belts helps reduce the risk of injury
while in a motorized vehicle. According to the CDC, car seats reduces the risk of deaths to infants by
71%, and toddlers by 54% . For the nation as the whole the average car seat usage is around 80% but
for the Navajo nation it is much lower at around 35%. This shows the basic lack of education the
Navajo people are receiving on the matter. Car Seat usage is a very serious public health issue on the
Navajo nation. Some areas where more education has been provided see a rise to about 60%. Restraint
use among young children often depends

Gallstone Case Study
The prevalence of gallstones varies with the geographical region. In the western world, the rates range
from approximately 8% in men to 16% in women.3 The typical course of cholelithiasis often begins as
asymptomatic gallstones found incidentally on imaging studies. However, 2% of asymptomatic
patients become symptomatic per year.8 Biliary colic is the most common symptom to manifest and
approximately 20 40% of patients have recurring pain.8 Asymptomatic patients who have calcified
gallbladders or large stones 2cm have a greater risk for gallbladder carcinoma and as a result these
patients are recommended to have prophylactic cholecystectomy.8 Medical treatment is only advised
for certain types of patients and is not the ideal treatment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The initial plan started with ordering a CBC, CMP, amylase and lipase STAT. These are all standard
labs that help to rule out gallbladder pathology as well as our other differential diagnoses. Her vital
signs were stable and the physical exam revealed only moderate TTP of the RUQ and epigastric
region. The lab results revealed no leukocytosis, no elevation of liver enzymes, bilirubin, amylase,
lipase, alk phos or any other signs of cholecystitis, cholangitis, pancreatitis or other potential signs of
infection. The plan of care began with keeping the patient NPO. This is recommended as this keeps
the patient from further pain secondary to food stimulating gallbladder contraction.5 It also allows the
patient to be prepared for surgery if urgent cholecystectomy is required. The next step was beginning
IV normal saline to keep her well hydrated. After this we began to give her medication through the IV
including Zofran for her nausea. Zofran is an effective anti emetic and there were no contraindications
for use in this patient. We also gave her Morphine 2 mg IV for pain control. Opioids are an effective
option for a patient with significant biliary colic.6 Although NSAIDS are another option for pain
control, PUD was part of the differential diagnosis so NSAIDS were not an appropriate therapy. We
ordered an abdominal ultrasound as this is the diagnostic test of choice for cholelithiasis. The
ultrasound revealed multiple gallstones in the gallbladder, some mild gallbladder thickening, and some
dilatation of the common bile duct. At this point we consulted GI who scheduled the patient for MRCP
in the morning in order rule out choledocholithiaisis. We also consulted the surgery team who
admitted the patient. The stated they would likely plan for laparoscopic

The Policy Language Of Clipper Mill Fed
Accordingly, since Clendenin Bros., the policy language has been broadened seemingly in response to
Clendenin Bros. and similar cases to include not only environmental pollution, but also, substances
that are harmful or toxic to persons [or] property. The significance of this distinction was recognized
in Clipper Mill Fed., LLC v. Cincinnati Ins. Co, 2010 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 112172 (D.Md. 2010), where
a landlord/insured alleged that damages caused by [t]oxic and dangerous airborne pollutants
attributable to a malfunctioning HVAC unit gave rise to a claim against the insured by a tenant. Id. at
3. In that case, although the pollution at issue was not environmental, the District of Maryland
observed that:
The policy in the present case contains an important distinction from that involved in Clendenin Bros.
The CGL Policy tracks the definition of Pollutant contained in the policy at issue in Clendenin Bros.,
but adds, Pollutants include but are not limited to substances which are generally recognized in
industry or government to be harmful or toxic to persons, property or the environment. . . . Compare
Clendenin Bros., 889 A.2d at 390, with CGL Policy, Form GA 1011204 § V(18) (emphasis added).
The addition of this sentence expanded the definition of Pollutant beyond environmental pollutants.
The CGL Policy s use of the phrase harmful or toxic to persons, property or the environment shows
that the definition includes irritants and contaminants that harm persons but

Racial Divides in the Last of the Mohicans
Samantha Sandoval
7 February 2012
Racial Divides in The Last of the Mohicans Throughout James Fennimore Cooper s novel The Last of
the Mohicans a common theme of interracial friendship and love and the difficulty it takes to
overcome such an obstacle, is shown strongly in the work. In the novel Cooper shows how the
America people of European decent treat those that are native, by showing how negatively they treat
the Native Americans. Chingachgook and Hawkeye have a friendship that is genuine and deep,
bypassing the normal relationship between that of a white man and a Mohican Indian. Interracial love
and romantic relationships are condemned in The Last of the Mohicans, for example when, Cora, the
older daughter of Munro, is approached ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hawkeye and Chingachgook have a stark, stripped human relationship of two men, deeper then the
deeps of sex. (Burt 1). Cooper shows just how deep of a friendship these two men can have looking
past all of the racial boundaries that are in position from the surrounding society. Despite the way
interracial relations between the civilized and the savage were looked down upon Hawkeye and
Chingachgook s relationship continues without any such interference. Cooper makes the relationship
important especially in the times of need, during the battle scenes and while they complete acts that
make it clear that Hawkeye and his group are the protagonists of the story. This is a strong and deep
connection between the two men making a statement for the time period, in which the story is set in.
The constant reoccurrence of Hawkeye and Chingachgook s relationship as friends in the Cooper s
novel shows the power of this symbol. The two men constantly look out for one another s well being,
Chingachgook gives Hawkeye information and reassures him his ear shall drink no lie. (Cooper 32)
simply because they are friends. As the book continues the two men and the bond that is between them
is proven to be deeper then the expectation of the average American community of the time. Through
their dangerous journey they stumble upon much conflict, yet instead of burdening their friendship, it
only builds their relationship as friends. Without one another

Consumer Behaviour Analysis in Hong Kong
CONSUMER DEMAND
AN ECONOMETRIC
IN HONG KONG
ANALYSIS 1
E. R. LIM *
Introduction The objectives of consumer demand analysis are first, to isolate a few major variables
from the many and complex factors influencing consumer behaviour, and second, to verify empirically
that this relatively small number of parameters gives a reasonable explanation of a wide range of
observations on consumer behaviour. The quantitative knowledge thus obtained is necessary for the
study of economic development and for the formulation of economic policy. In addition they are a
necessary input to the evolution of consumer theory. The data for the present study come from the
household expenditure survey conducted by the Hong Kong Department of Commerce ... Show more

It is also important to note that what we are measuring here is the long run If the $200 household were
to double its income overnight, its relationship. consumption behaviour might well be completely
different from the household which has been receiving $400 income for a long period of time. Our
estimates, therefore, concern the long run adjustment of consumption behaviour to income change.
For these reasons, the consumption income relationship based on cross sectional data may well be
very different from the relationship based on time series data, which probably include a relatively
larger element short run adjustment.

Reported Income vs. Total Expenditure Since we are attempting to measure the long run relationship
between the major items of consumption and income, it is particularly important as to what measure of
income we are using. There are many reasons to suspect that actual income is not a proper explanatory
variable for consumption. The main reason is that it usually contains a large transitory component
which is irrelevant to the consumption decision, particularly if the interest is on the long run
relationship. While it is generally agreed that actual income is not a good explanatory variable, there is
little agreement as what should replace it. The permanent income

Effects Of Divorce On Children And Divorce
In today s world, most people accept divorce or separation as a way of life. Parents are unaware or do
not understand the damage it can have on their children. However, in some instances, it is better to get
out of an abusive relationship because that can be as toxic as divorce. On average, 50% of children
who are born with married parents, will experience divorce before the age of 18 (Children and
Divorce Baucom, 2010 2017). Along with divorce statistics, 40% of children in America are raised
without a father being present (Children and Divorce Baucom, 2010 2017). Children who are raised in
broken homes are more likely to have health related problems, behavioral issues, and physical and
emotional damage (Children and Divorce Baucom, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If your child has had a routine that they are content in, changing the routine may lead to some of the
issues that are mentioned by Ferber. They may refuse to eat or have a loss of interest in certain
activities and that is their actions in rebelling to the situation. Sometimes they may react in ways to get
their parents attention because they may feel like they have been forgotten in the middle of all of the
chaos. In such instances, the child can benefit from seeing a licensed counselor to get professional
help with these negative behaviors (Redmond, Ferber, Love To Know, 2017). Through experience and
education, Donna Ferber thinks that children can benefit from a divorce or separation under certain
circumstances. However, through psychological evaluations, it has been found that children
experience behavioral issues when a divorce or separation occurs.
All children may experience behavioral issues at certain ages throughout their lives. Terrible two s,
terrible three s, meltdowns of young children, and outbursts of teenagers are all very common. Adding
stress and bad environments can increase these bad behaviors that are shown by children. Depending
on their age, the behaviors may be different from one child to another. A child at age 12 who are
experiencing parents divorce at age six is different

Northern Mockingbird Characteristics
President Thomas Jefferson had a pet mockingbird named Dick ( Northern Facts ). The Northern
Mockingbird has many distinctive characteristics. These characteristics include how the mockingbird
prefers specific habitats, how their feeding habits is unusual, and how the nesting habits are unique.
The mockingbird is very well known for its songs and imitation of other sounds. Mockingbirds are
very territorial and defensive; mockingbirds are known to attack to protect their young and nesting
sites.
The Northern Mockingbird has many distinctive characteristics; such as they prefer specific habitats,
their unusual eating habits, and their nesting habits.
Mockingbirds prefer a specific habitat that includes hedges, suburban gardens, and orchard margins
with an abundance of available fruit. It is especially important that there are hedgerows of multi flora
roses ( Birds of Minnesota and Wisconsin ). When the mockingbird goes walking they prefer areas
with large open ground with shrub like vegetation such as parks and cultivated land ( All About Birds
).
The feeding habits of mockingbirds are unusual for a bird. The mockingbird changes what it eats with
the seasons, in the summer they prefer insects such as beetles, moths, earthworms, butterflies, bees,
ants, grasshoppers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mockingbird s song is a medley of mimicked phrases, with the phrases repeated 3 times or more;
calls include a harsh chair and chewk (Janssen, Tessen, Kennedy 260). Mockingbirds can imitate
vocalizations of different birds, musical instruments, and barking dogs. They replicate sounds so
accurately that even computerized auditory analysis is unable to figure out the differences differences
between the original source and the mockingbird s imitation (Janssen, Tessen, Kennedy 260). The
easiest way to first identify a mockingbird is by listening for its song, which mimics numerous
different birds at once ( All About

Enid Schildkrout s Into The Heart Of Africa
Into the Heart of Africa was an infamous exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum in 1989 that made
its way into textbooks as an example of cultural appropriation. The exhibition advertised itself as the
first major African exhibition in Toronto and aimed to be a critical examination of the relationship
between Ontario and Africa at the turn of the century (Burret 2004: p. 127). Through the juxtaposition
of provocative colonial imagery and artifacts with critical texts and ironic captions, the exhibition
challenges dominant colonial narratives regarding Africa (p. 132). Yet, within a few months of its
opening, the museum made national headlines with accusations of racism, cultural appropriation, and
the propagation of old colonial stereotypes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Young, 2009). From a post colonial perspective, this practice is both harmful and hegemonic
systematically devaluing the cultures of minority groups and casting them as exotic or mysterious.
While this is far from the original intent of Into the Heart of Africa , Anthropologist Enid Schildkrout
argues that it is inevitable that it becomes perceived this way with its ambiguity and reliance on irony
and juxtaposition, built upon unrealistic, and untested, expectations about the audience (Schildkrout
1991: p. 16). Some scholars argue that despite the exhibition s intentions, members of the general
public do often trust museums as authoritative sources, and were thus shocked by exhibit s the violent
images and seemingly colonial presentation of African artifacts. (Burret 2004, p. 139). Others draw
attention to the lack of involvement of the African Canadian community, arguing that this led to a
detachment between the curators of the exhibition and the needs and perspective of both its audience
and subject matter (Burret 2004, p. 141). Regardless of the true cause, it is clear that there are many
lessons to be drawn from this experience from the importance of community involvement to the value
of a clear presentations of themes and curatorial

Design Management Is Necessary For A Successful Project...
Critical appraisal
Design is the process whereby the attributes of a client are developed and documented so that they can
be procured. It is very important stage in the design procurement process and has a major pressure on
the outcome of the project. Lot of concentration is paid to overall project management, as evidenced
by techniques developed over the last 15 years. This critical view examines the particular nature of
design management process and the concrete issues that should to be considered in order to establish
the felicitous controls.
In recent years there has been an improved development for the need of design management in
construction. Effective design management is necessary for a successful project but the clear picture
of design management is not understood properly (S Austin, 2002). Design is a very key aspect of
construction and with the help of a good team; good sustainable projects can be produced. The need
for improvement of design in construction is very necessary. Delivering the project on time, budget
and providing a value to construction is needed (S Austin, 2002). However the role of a design
manager is poorly noted and does not have a robust path (Newton, n.d.).
Design management Dates back to early times where it was influenced with number of different
attributes like architecture, software development, engineering. During the 1960 design management
was considered as managing design

Common Good Argument
Galston (2013) claims that idea of the common good has real content in theory and real utility in
practice , throughout his essay on the common good, he provides sufficient evidence to back his main
claim and he uses it to refute the arguments of others. He defines three key aspects of the common
good to support his claim of the common good having real content in theory , these include: Inherently
social goods , Social linkages and The good of the commons . Galston (2013) then proceeds to give
evidence on the concept of bargaining and the U.S. Constitution; he uses these examples to support his
claim that the common good has real utility in practice . I believe Galston understands the academic
conversation around the common good quite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example he gives based on inherently social goods is humor, telling a joke to oneself is virtually
impossible, because humor requires surprise , as a result, this allows us to make the inference that
there are certain aspects of life that require the company of others and without it, the good (humor in
this case) would be lost. Galston (2013) states that The good of the commons is when how people
behave in shared social spaces impacts others (p.11). If we carelessly leave an unextinguished fire in a
camp ground, the entire facility may go up in flames. (p.11), this shows how the common good
includes everyone s best interests and this example in fact shows that it does have real content in
theory as it is quite easy to imagine the scenarios he has presented, occurring in real

The New Religious Movement Of Scientology
Introduction
Throughout history, all religions have had their beginning. Religion itself has the ability to influence
and shape its followers and the world. Whether religions stem from an established religion or a new
religion, both are defined as new religious movements (NRMs). These new religious movements can
take a scientific approach to religion, such as Scientology, referred to as a client cult where services
are provided or branch off from an established religion like Christianity as did Mormonism with its
teachings based upon the Holy Bible and The Book of Mormon. (Fisher, 2014, 459, 465) With various
NRMs emerging including Scientology and Mormonism, will they endure and continue to grow,
attracting future generations to their particular religion? Their similarities and differences will be
examined.
Scientology and Mormon Similarities
The new religious movement of Scientology is based upon the teachings and writings of Ron L.
Hubbard, an author and philosopher. (Fisher, 2014, p. 459) Similarly, Mormonism also has an original
founder, Joseph Smith, who discovered golden plates on a dig which Smith translated into The Book
of Mormon. (Fisher, 2014, p. 465) Much is not known about the in depth religious beliefs of these
NRMs as both are secretive with those who investigate their practices and discourage members from
sharing information with others outside their faith as portrayed in the media. However, it could be said
that these new religious movements

Video Game Reduces Social Anxiety
Video Game Reduces Social Anxiety Whether it is in a real world or cyber space, meeting people
seems to be an almost inevitable part of modern daily life. Meeting or interacting with new people can
be stressful. When people encounter a stranger, they try to avoid or reduce it by getting as much
information as possible in the course of the conversation or interaction. There is an average of two
gamers in each game playing U.S household as shown in the research of ESA Entertainment Software
Association (2013). According to ESA s Effective Facts, over 50% of Americans are playing video
games that means at least one of the average U.S. household owns dedicated game console such as
Xbox360, PS series, etc., Computer, or smartphone. The average age of game players is 30 years old.
In that manner, the video games are not the property of the children anymore. Playing video game
becomes as an important social issue. This particular study investigates video game reduces the social
anxiety.
Video Game Addiction A great deal of research has focused on the identification of addicted
adolescent gamers (Van Rooij, Schoenmakers, Vermulst, Van Den Eijnden, Van de Mheen, 2011). Van
Rooij et al. (2011) assumed to provide empirical data driven to identify a group of addicted online
gamers. The video game industry is among the fastest growing sectors of the US economy (ESA
Entertainment Software Association, 2013). Both Korean and western researchers report specifically

The Importance Of Nursing Homes Are The Best Places For...
With the growth of the aged population, finding the suitable accommodation for the elderly becomes a
popular topic of interests. From that, an increasing number of the elderly are sent to nursing homes,
the facilities that specialized in aged care and are regarded as the ideal places for old people. However,
some question whether nursing homes are truly the best places for the elderly. This essay will argue
that there are still some issues that need to be addressed in nursing homes, which may probably even
make the elderly s lives worse. In this case, nursing homes are not the best places for the aged people.
Firstly, the facilities and staffs of nursing homes are possibly not as adequate as one would like to
imagine. One reason that nursing homes are described as the suitable places for the olds is that they
provide specialized facilities, doctors, nurses and care recipients to protect the health for the elderly.
Australian Aged Care Quality Agency has set some standards for nursing homes and the Standard 2
Health and personal care shows that nursing homes must put efforts on Staff development, Clinical
care, Specialized nursing care needs and Medication management. However, the facilities are actually
rarely checked to ensure that they meet the standards of basic health and safety (Brodwin, 2014) as
well as the percentages of nursing homes that lack adequate staffs to properly care for patients and
have been in violation of elderly abuse laws are 91% and 36% respectively

Essay Use of Semiotics to Analyze Advertisements
The theory of semiotics, as proposed by Roland Barthes, has been used to analyze advertisements and
the effectiveness of advertisements on viewers. In the articles that I researched that used semiotics to
analyze particular advertisements, I found four common and related themes. First, the articles
mentioned that the viewer determines the meaning of the advertisement or the viewer interprets the
advertisement. Second, this meaning that the viewer assigns to the advertisement is largely determined
by context, both social and cultural. Third, advertisers use culture and predominant cultural beliefs in
their advertisements in efforts to reach their audience more effectively. Finally, these advertisements
actually end up supporting the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Originally, Barthes termed connotation as myth because he believed that connotation is a product of
society. Connotation is not the true meaning of the sign but a meaning that society has decided to give
that sign and is a shared meaning (Griffin, 2012). Barthes wrote that connotation makes what is
cultural seem natural (Barthes, 1985/1988). Connotation is what makes habit become ritual. To better
understand these two aspects of signs, we have to understand how the system of what makes up a sign
affects its meaning. Connotative and denotative signs are formed in different ways. Denotative signs
are simply the signified and signifier put together (Griffin, 2012). Connotative signs, however, are a
bit more complex. Originally there is the physical signifier and the signified, which together make up
the denotative system (Griffin, 2012). This denotative sign is what the signifier in the connotative
system is made up of (Griffin, 2012). To this signifier is added a new signified, which is a shared
meaning that has been created by society (Griffin, 2012). This combination creates the connotative of
mythical system. It is in this mythical system that signs derive their meaning (Griffin, 2012). Through
these systems which society has created, signs are interpreted and evaluated by the shared meanings of
society (Griffin, 2012).These mythical systems are not meant to hide the original meanings of
messages but rather

The Process Of Conducting Research
Procedure
The process of conducting research is to gather information that relates to your I search question. The
I search question that I am seeking answers to happens to be; what is the definition of family in today
s society? There are many methods of investigation that can be used to answer this question, but I
have limited it to eight methods. The eight methods I have chosen are going to give me in depth
information about my purposed I search question.
The first method of investigation for my I search project that would best help me gather information
for my project is interviewing both in person and by email. The interview process is beneficial to my
project because it gives me in depth and comprehensive information. The interviews will consist of
ordinary people in todays, society both younger and older the young will be aged from four to thirty
and old will consist of anyone over thirty. I am doing the interviews to gain answers to my secondary
questions which are based on gender and age. Also interviews provide personal experiences and better
understanding of the subject matter in this case family.
The second method of investigation will be scholarly journals. I am using journals because family is a
big topic to be covered and it has been discussed and written about over many years. Many
psychologists have written about what defines a family and how it has changed over time. These
Journals will help me show that the definition is outdated and how it should be

Reflecting on an E-learning Staff Training Event that I...
Introduction The primary focus of this paper is to reflect on an E learning staff development training
event that I observed for the last six years as a participant. The E learning training utilized the same
method and the same material during this time. The staff development training is an annual
requirement for teachers to complete before the beginning of each school year. This training was
mandatory and supported the concept of safe schools. The objective of the training was highlighted,
which is to ensure each teacher successful complete the training to support state laws and
requirements for the safety of students in public schools. This training is used to substitute for

A lack of motivation results directly from previous experience with the training, since the training has
not changed over the last six years. The information presented did have graph and pictures but
designed in a clipart format with cartoonish characters suited for participants in a younger age group.
The questions are the same one and in the same sequence. The content lacks creativity and depth.
Critical thinking skills also do not appear to be important to the creator of this course. I have taken the
exams for the course without having to complete the individual modules. This is a problem since I am
sure there have been changes about how to handle safety issue in the school and classroom
environment. The professional development of teachers should be an important objective for school
administrators, since teachers affect student lives daily. Understandably, teachers are required to
receive formal training and certification, based primarily on subject matter content, communication
skills, classroom management abilities, and student interaction. An important consideration is the
professional development training that teachers receive and the method used to deliver the training. Of
course, there is the traditional face to face method, but with organizations, seeking ways to reduce
training cost and travel expenses technology is an effective alternative for training. Technology
implementation increased to reach the needs of teacher

Henri is. You get home and Henri is in the front lawn. He got to go to Burger King for lunch, in
between his tests, and he got a green dinosaur toy. He s just sitting there, playing. Happy. Looking

then down stacks and then runs to the back of the line then the next person goes and does a 3 6 3,
down stacks and then runs to the back of the line and so on and then once everyone goes then the last

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, is a social
welfare program designed to increase the nutritional value of a low income household s food supply. It
does this through Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards that are loaded with a monetary allotment
based on family size and income, which can then be redeemed for groceries at participating SNAP
stores (Karger Stoesz, 2014). 46.2 million Americans participated in the program in 2011 (Andrews

Music Of Peru Analysis
James N. Music of Peru
The music of Peru is a fusion of sounds and different style of playing that originated from Spain,
Africa and the indigenous people of South America. This influence of the European and later Africa
music can be seen and heard in the different sounds throughout Peru. The Typical instruments used
are, the flute and the antara or zampoña, which is an instrument made of reeds and looks similar to the
instrument played by the Greek god Pan. The most common musical instrument is the guitar. It has
several forms, the box and the traditional guitar, which in Peru has also a smaller variant, known as
the charango and mandolin.

Peru is also famous for its Huayno music as well. This music dates back to before Columbus and is

Abstinence Education
Sexual education in public schools is one of the most controversial issues in education. In today s
society, it is almost impossible to ignore the responsibility of informing adolescence about the issues

idea that power can corrupt those with too much control and he shows it through Napoleon. During

Napoleon. Napoleon starting to think that the pigs were more superior. Orwell seemed to be stating
that if Napoleon was the only one who knew what was right or true, then Napoleon could convince the

Taxation means the government impose charges on the citizen and corporate entities in order to

the Malaysian taxation scope of charge before the year assessment 2004, the tax was imposed on the

The Atlantic Slave Trade
Everyone has their own understanding of what slavery is, but there are misconceptions about the
history of slavery . Not many people understand how the slave trade initially began. Originally Africa
had slaves but they were servants or serfs, sometimes these people could be part of the master s
family. They could own land, rise to positions of power, and even purchase their freedom. This
changed when white captains came to Africa and offered weapons, rum, and manufactured goods for
people. African kings and merchants gave away the criminals, debtors, and prisoner from rival tribes.
The demand for cheap labor was increasing, this resulted in the forced migration of over ten million
slaves. The Atlantic Slave Trade occurred from 1500 to 1880 CE. This large scale event changed the
economy and histories of many places. The Atlantic Slave Trade held a great amount of significance in
the development of America. Africans shaped America by building a solid foundation for the country.
The act of slavery was already happening in Africa prior to The Atlantic Slave Trade. The slave trade
provided no restrictions, this caused chaos in both Africa and America. Africans captured slaves and as
the demand grew getting slaves became a motivation for war. This lead to internal conflict in Africa
that can still be seen today. An article in The Abolition Project did a good job summing up this
statement, Forms of slavery existed in Africa before Europeans arrived. Some

Negative Effects Of Sweatshops
Would you ever purposely go to a place where you would feel unsafe and uncomfortable? Imagine
having no other option but having to go to that place everyday because there was no other alternative?
Well that is the case for people in developing countries that work in factories, better known as
sweatshops making products for big name brands. They have to go to a work environment where they
do not feel safe nor comfortable everyday while the factory owners willing know this and don t do
anything about it. The workers for these companies go to earn a wage that they are not able to live off

Buildings without proper ventilation, and most of the products that are constructed at these facility
have to be dyed with hazardous chemicals that give off dangerous fumes. In the film The True Cost
one of the scenes of the inside of one of the factories there is a mom working while her baby was

International Law And Maritime Insurance
Introduction
The international society pays more attention to the age old crime of piracy in recent years since the
surge of pirates based in Somalia. In facing of increasing number of kidnaps and mint ransoms asked
by piracy, people accord great importance to the insurance clauses which cover losses by piracy. In
this regards, it is really necessary to research on the insurance clauses of piracy. In this report, the
author will firstly describe the general background of piracy and then discuss the legal implication of

Moreover, schedule 1, rule 8 of the Marine Insurance Act 1906 provides that the term pirates includes
passengers who mutiny (Palmer v Naylor, 1854) and rioters who attack the ship from ashore (Nesbitt
v Lushington, 1792) .
The Feature of Modern Piracy
Modern day piracy is characterised by automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenades that are used
in an attempt to board and hijack vessels. The growth of this type of piracy more recently has
especially been evident off the coast of Somalia and the Gulf of Aden, which accounted for more than
half of the reported piracy incidents worldwide in 2011. A prominent feature of modern day piracy is
the ransom that is demanded for the safe release of the ship, cargo and crew. Once the attack is
successful, the ship and cargo are usually returned undamaged on payment of the ransom and the crew
is usually unharmed (Lambrou, 2012).
The Insurance Cover
Marine Insurance Policy is split between the ships and the cargo. When coverage is for goods it is
termed a Cargo Insurance Policy; when the ship is covered, it is termed Hull Insurance Policy. In
relation to hull insurance, the peril of piracy is insured as marine risk under Institute Time and Voyage
Clauses Hulls 1983 and the International Hull Clause 2003. In addition, the pollution claims or crew
claims caused by piracy are covered by Protection and Indemnity Club (Gauci, 2010). In relation to

through his military experience was able to gain insight into the inner workings of Persian society and
culture under the rule of Cyrus. His authoring of the work Cyropaedia and other Persian related

the eyes of Xenophon as he uses Cyrus life in order to put forth his own philosophical ideologies.
While filled with some inaccuracies due to Xenophon s own motives it does offers great insight into
the transformation of culture and society of the Persians under the rule of Cyrus and the various

The Similarities Between John Sloan And John Constable
John Constable was born the in year 1776, in Suffolk, England, and was raised in the English
countryside, which greatly influenced his later career as an artist. Almost one hundred years later, the
artist John Sloan was born in 1871, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. His subsequent upbringing in the
city of Philadelphia significantly shaped his later career, in a similar fashion to Constable. Both were
brought up, not necessarily aspiring to be artists, but each found his passion for painting later in life.
Despite having little formal training, they each went on to become one of the most noted artists of
their times, each developing a fairly distinct style from the very beginnings their careers.
From the start, Constable was more disposed toward landscape painting, mostly scenes of his family s
properties that he had grown up on. Sloan, however, was more disposed to painting scenes he saw in

Qualitative Research Appraisal
According to Schneider, Elliot, LoBiondo Wood Haber (2004), qualitative research methods, search
for the meaning and understanding of human experiences in a naturalistic setting. A researcher obtains
subjective facts in order to explore the experiences of each participant (Schneider, Elliot, LoBiondo
Wood Haber 2004). As a result, qualitative research is a means in which a researcher gains an insight
into the participant s point of view concerning their personal experiences; in order gain an
understanding of the information given. Therefore this allows a researcher to collect subjective

The strengths that come from dealing with the above are an increased empathy of nurses towards their

Early Catholics didn?t believe that the soul entered the fetus until later, 40 days for boys and 90 days
for girls. Only in 1869 did the Catholic Church declare that the soul entered the fetus at conception,
therefore rendering abortion murder. Until the second half of the nineteenth century, the English
Common Law was that abortions were permitted until the quickening, that is until the baby started

The Pros And Cons Of Clean Coal
Clean coal is proposed as being an emission cleaner form of regular coal, because it reduces the
amount of sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxide that is produced by burning coal. It does this by
removing impurities from the coal that are contributing to the higher emissions within regular coal,
which is created through clean coal technology .
Clean coal is obtained just like regular coal through either mining it or by mountaintop removal.
A technique called coal washing is used to remove impurities, such as sulfur and other unwanted

The high court made a judgement (15) which was Mabo 1992, which attempted to assist the
Indigenous people with the act of racial decimation dealt with the injustices that were served by the
government. Attempts were made to help the government that was under the rule of Paul Keating, who
tried to help with the injustices that both parties were dealing with the RDA. This acknowledged the
idea that there were things like native title had been beyond the likeness that some places were either
private or public and had ownership which included idea that terra nullius was then wiped out. The
opposition at the time was John Hewson with support of John Howard. After the decision was made,

Schizophreni The Use Of Family Intervention In A Beautiful...
If you like drama, romance, and suspense then A Beautiful Mind is the move for you. A Beautiful
Mind is a tale of a man by the name of John Forbes Nash Jr., who is lost in a world of fancies, not
beginning able to distinguish reality from actuality. The film started in the late 1940 s in the
conference room on the campus of Princeton University where John started as graduate student
studying mathematics. He was a persistent and determined young man who always stayed focus on his
goal. He never allow peer pressure to control his perspectives on live because he believed that he was
in school only to be successful at his craft (math). As the film proceed the author introduced another
character by the name of Charles Herman whom I assumed to ... Show more content on

He explains eight developmental stages in which physical, cognitive, instinctual, and sexual changes
combine to trigger an internal crisis whose resolution results in either psychosocial regression or
growth and the development of specific virtues (Erikson, 2012). Since studies show that the develop
of schizophrenia around the ages of 16 through 30 and John was in graduate school at the time of
development it is safe to say that he was in his 20 s. In Erikson eight stages of development John is in
stage six of the eight stages of development which is intimacy versus isolation. Erikson stated that a
person who, as a result of sever disturbances in the earliest dyadic relationships, fails to develop a
basic sense of trust or the virtue of hope may be predisposed as an adult to the profound withdrawal
and regression characteristic of schizophrenia (Erikson, 2012). Due to earlier difficulties in
development intimacy versus isolation may be impacted by schizophrenia in adulthood. Since this
stage is contributed to love it is obvious that John is having problems in this stage (Reitan, 2013). Due
to the development of schizophrenia at an early stage in the lifespan development it is easy to say the
people with schizophrenia will need support during the later stages of development to ensure that they
will be able to continue with developmental skills and wellness (Reitan,

The Flaws And Human Harms Of Animal Experimentation
Thousands of animals every year are euthanized due to animal testing. Animal testing is cruel and an
inhumane way to torture animals for mankind s own benefit. Because of our selfish, millions of
animals suffered a vicious and painful death in the name of research every year. Animals are
frequently used in biological and medical research, in the testing of drugs and commercial products,
and in educational exercises in the sciences. So, can we ask ourselves, deeply in mind, that is it worth
to use animal as an experiment project to enlarge our knowledge and save human lives? People are
using animal on experiments is because they are trying to provide a better life to all human being. This
action stirred controversy involving the benefits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the way of virus transmission is different, the antidotes might not work in humans. So, what will
be happened if the antidotes are not work in humans? The answer is obvious.
According to The Flaws and Human Harms of Animal Experimentation , Aysha Akhtar, the author,
point out the discordance between human diseases and animal models of diseases. Because of the
interspecies differences in physiology and genetics, it is easily that human might get worse if they take
those antidotes which are only suitable for animals. He quotes an example of human suffering
resulting from animal experimentation in 2006. A drug calls TGN 1412 was tested in mice, rabbits, rat
and nonhuman primates (NHPs) with no ill effects. The inventor believed that the drug was being
success in many kinds of animals, it must also work in human. However, those human volunteers were
injected with this immunomodulatory drug suffered a severe adverse reaction resulting from a life
threatening cytokine storm that led to catastrophic systemic organ failure within a minute. This
compound had the opposite effect in human, but those experimental animals do not. If
experimentation using chimpanzees and other NHPs, our closest genetic cousins, are unreliable, how
can we expect research using other animals to be reliable? Akhtar stated. It is a severe problem to all
man kinds. Will you have the trial that the drug only tested safe and effective in

  • 2. Car Seatbelts The number one cause of death in U.S. children are motor vehicle accidents, but many of these can be prevented. Buckling children into car seats, booster seats and seat belts helps reduce the risk of injury while in a motorized vehicle. According to the CDC, car seats reduces the risk of deaths to infants by 71%, and toddlers by 54% . For the nation as the whole the average car seat usage is around 80% but for the Navajo nation it is much lower at around 35%. This shows the basic lack of education the Navajo people are receiving on the matter. Car Seat usage is a very serious public health issue on the Navajo nation. Some areas where more education has been provided see a rise to about 60%. Restraint use among young children often depends ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Gallstone Case Study The prevalence of gallstones varies with the geographical region. In the western world, the rates range from approximately 8% in men to 16% in women.3 The typical course of cholelithiasis often begins as asymptomatic gallstones found incidentally on imaging studies. However, 2% of asymptomatic patients become symptomatic per year.8 Biliary colic is the most common symptom to manifest and approximately 20 40% of patients have recurring pain.8 Asymptomatic patients who have calcified gallbladders or large stones 2cm have a greater risk for gallbladder carcinoma and as a result these patients are recommended to have prophylactic cholecystectomy.8 Medical treatment is only advised for certain types of patients and is not the ideal treatment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The initial plan started with ordering a CBC, CMP, amylase and lipase STAT. These are all standard labs that help to rule out gallbladder pathology as well as our other differential diagnoses. Her vital signs were stable and the physical exam revealed only moderate TTP of the RUQ and epigastric region. The lab results revealed no leukocytosis, no elevation of liver enzymes, bilirubin, amylase, lipase, alk phos or any other signs of cholecystitis, cholangitis, pancreatitis or other potential signs of infection. The plan of care began with keeping the patient NPO. This is recommended as this keeps the patient from further pain secondary to food stimulating gallbladder contraction.5 It also allows the patient to be prepared for surgery if urgent cholecystectomy is required. The next step was beginning IV normal saline to keep her well hydrated. After this we began to give her medication through the IV including Zofran for her nausea. Zofran is an effective anti emetic and there were no contraindications for use in this patient. We also gave her Morphine 2 mg IV for pain control. Opioids are an effective option for a patient with significant biliary colic.6 Although NSAIDS are another option for pain control, PUD was part of the differential diagnosis so NSAIDS were not an appropriate therapy. We ordered an abdominal ultrasound as this is the diagnostic test of choice for cholelithiasis. From that, an increasing number of the elderly are sent to nursing homes, the facilities that specialized in aged care and are regarded as the ideal places for old people. However, some question whether nursing homes are truly the best places for the elderly. This essay will argue that there are still some issues that need to be addressed in nursing homes, which may probably even make the elderly s lives worse. In this case, nursing homes are not the best places for the aged people. Firstly, the facilities and staffs of nursing homes are possibly not as adequate as one would like to imagine. One reason that nursing homes are described as the suitable places for the olds is that they provide specialized facilities, doctors, nurses and care recipients to protect the health for the elderly. Australian Aged Care Quality Agency has set some standards for nursing homes and the Standard 2 Health and personal care shows that nursing homes must put efforts on Staff development, Clinical care, Specialized nursing care needs and Medication management. First, the articles mentioned that the viewer determines the meaning of the advertisement or the viewer interprets the advertisement. Originally, Barthes termed connotation as myth because he believed that connotation is a product of society. Connotation is not the true meaning of the sign but a meaning that society has decided to give that sign and is a shared meaning (Griffin, 2012). Barthes wrote that connotation makes what is cultural seem natural (Barthes, 1985/1988). Connotation is what makes habit become ritual. To better understand these two aspects of signs, we have to understand how the system of what makes up a sign affects its meaning. Connotative and denotative signs are formed in different ways. Denotative signs are simply the signified and signifier put together (Griffin, 2012). Connotative signs, however, are a bit more complex. Originally there is the physical signifier and the signified, which together make up the denotative system (Griffin, 2012). This denotative sign is what the signifier in the connotative system is made up of (Griffin, 2012). To this signifier is added a new signified, which is a shared meaning that has been created by society (Griffin, 2012). This combination creates the connotative of mythical system. It is in this mythical system that signs derive their meaning (Griffin, 2012).
