Maxon Breaking America Essay
Despite Aspen breaking America s heart before the selection, things get worse much worse for her, she
gets selected. I whipped my head back around, and there is it was. The picture of me just after I found
out Aspen was saving up to marry me, I looked radiant, hopeful, beautiful. I looked like I was in love,
And some idiot thought that love was for Prince Maxon. (Cass,2012,56) Honestly , America couldn t
even imagine being in the same room as Prince Maxon , or even being the next daughter of Illea. Also
Apsen was considering to marry America and he was the one who told her to enter. What teenage girl
wouldn t be confused and terrified? Especially since it s a competition for a crown and love she doesn
t want to be a part of. America has her many bold opinions about the Selection. On the day of coming
to the castle America made a bold choice by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the whole story, it talks about how the girls in the Selection face suspense because they aren t
sure what will happen next , or who Maxon is leaning towards. After the girls made a conclusion on
where they stand in the Selection, it impacts another suspenseful moment. Who will get kicked out
next? In the perspective of a reader reading this book this is seen as a cause and effect situation . For
example, for every girl that is eliminated from the Selection must have done something to provoke
Prince Maxon. That leads to the remaining of the girls and on pins and needles so they won t be next
ones eliminated. To introduce the characters, Kiera Cass shows that the readers could know more
about each character without having them fully introduced. For instance, a good example would be
how people can easily tell the personality of Celeste because of what America and the other girls have
said behind her back. But truly the author was giving more information about the personalities the
different girls have in a silent but directed

The Red Dress And The Lesson Summary
Dissatisfaction with Societal Roles in The Red Dress and The Lesson The two short stories, The Red
Dress and The Lesson, explore assigned roles in society and in the world. People cannot determine the
family they are born into and the labels that come from that. In both of the stories, the protagonists are
living in unhappy situations. Both girls are navigating a maze of anger and insecurity, and they do not
understand why. In The Lesson one girl deals with the societal problem of poverty. She is dealing with
society and her position on the economic ladder where choices seem limited. In contrast, the girl in
The Red Dress, deals with what seems like the smaller issue of having insecurity in high school. She
deals with her position ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the bathroom, the protagonist in The Red Dress speaks with a girl named Mary Fortune. Mary
Fortune tells her about her big plans to work her way through college and be independent. The
protagonist says that I felt the acute phase of my unhappiness passing, she compares Mary Fortune to
herself by stating, Here was someone who had suffered the same defeat as I had I saw that but she was
full of energy and self respect (6). Mary chose to accept her role as an outcast and make it her own.
She chose to live her life. It is through this conversation with Mary that the protagonist realizes that
she could purposefully influence her role in society. Like the protagonist in The Red Dress, after
leaving the toy store Sylvia has her own realization about her ability to influence her place in society.
Sylvia wonders how some people are able to spend the same amount of money on children s toys that
some families are forced to rely on for basic support. She realizes how unfair the structure of society is
when she wonders, What kinda work they do and how come we ain t in on it (5). Her experience at the
toy store highlights the injustice in the world and proposes the idea that something must be

Parkinson Spoon
Google Spoon Before we discuss the actual spoon, a person needs to be familiar with Parkinson s
disease. Parkinson s disease is commonly signified by tremors that begin on one side and get
progressively worse over a period of time. It is possible for these tremors to develop in the other side
of the person as well. The new side usually is not as extreme in the loss of motor functions such as
using your hand to feed yourself. (Parkinson s Disease Foundation Inc., 2016). Google has partnered
with Liftware to enable people with Parkinson s disease feed themselves with a stabilized spoon. The
computer is instrumental to noticing movement of tremors in the hand in which it compensated to the
opposite direction to stabilize the spoon. The spoon s handle is where the components are located such
as the motors, computer, and the rechargeable battery. (Liftware, n.d.). The challenge is to make
specific algorithms to meet the demand of the people purchasing the spoon. A person s tremors might
vary at times from mild to severe, and if the computer does not adjust properly a person will spill his
or her food. This can be disheartening to the person who feels like they find something to help ...

Rechargeable batteries are great, but often times their output weakens over a period of time and they
have to be replaced. The computer might produce signals that require the battery to lose its power
faster, if the algorithms are not carefully created and analyzed. The more reliant a person is on this
piece of equipment, the more possibility when it fails the person will not know how to compensate
with normal utensils to feed themselves. Nourishment is a required factor for a person to live and with
this new technology doctors might learn how to alleviate a person s tremors. Managers might be more
acceptable to hiring people with Parkinson s

Challenges Facing Emerging Infectious Diseases
Introduction
Today, humankind is faced with various obstacles and challenges requiring global responses and
solutions to the spread of emerging infectious diseases (EIDs). EIDs can be defined as infections that
are newly emerging or have existed previously in a particular region and then reemerged at a rapidly
increasing incidence rate (Calistri et al., 2013). Many of the emerging infectious diseases today,
including those caused by transboundary diseases and bioterrorist agents, are zoonotic diseases, which
are diseases that are transmissible from both wild and domestic animals to humans (Kahn, 2006). The
One Health concept, over the past few years, has generated a great deal of public attention with

Ultimately, One Health seeks to address and integrate various interdisciplinary approaches at the local,
national and global levels, in order to attain and facilitate optimal health, well being, and enhanced
cooperation among mankind, wildlife, and the environment.
Acknowledging globalization trends and socio ecological systems
The One Health concept is a global initiative that is used towards expanding multidisciplinary
collaborations and infrastructures in all aspects of health care among humans, animals (both domestic
and wild), and the environment. Globalization can be conceptualized as the worldwide movement
toward economic, financial, and communication integration and is the process by which the world is
becoming increasingly interconnected as a result of factors such as increased worldwide trade and
cultural exchange. Over the past several years there has been a plethora of multifactorial global
revolutions, including: rapid population growth, changes in nutritional, agricultural and trade
practices, increasing international trade and travel, ecotourism and global warming (Coker et al.,
2011)(Dhama et al., 2013); Each of which, are organized around the industrialization and development
of a pre modern to post modern state movement that has contributed towards increased global
interdependence, increasing global interconnectedness through communication technologies and

McDonald s succeeds in the community involvement aspect of their business, some stakeholders may

Members of the community may argue that, though McDonald s does great charity work, the
unhealthy products they serve contradict the efforts they put into improving the community. While
most community focused stakeholders should be pleased with McDonald s efforts, some believe that
McDonald s still has plenty of room to grow in this category. Because of this area for improvement,
McDonald s is only taking an accommodative approach, rather than a proactive above and beyond
approach. Keeping the opinions of stakeholders in mind, McDonald s constantly attempts to

The Number Of Gay Bars And Clubs
The number of gay bars and clubs increased in number throughout the 1970s. However, as the number
of businesses geared towards LGBT individuals increased they also migrated. The area that they
settled around in the 1990s is located is called Lakeview East; Lakeview East, West Lake View, and
Wrigglyville are the three smaller communities that make up the larger Lakeview neighborhood. More
specifically, the businesses were clustered around Clark Street and Halsted Street. In 1997 Chicago s
Mayor, Richard M. Daley, officially recognized the area as a gay neighborhood. This area, now known
as Boystown, was the first gay neighborhood in the United States of America to be officially
recognized by the government. The same year city planners under the direction of the Mayor s office
devised a plan to create a streetscape that marked North Halsted Street as being a gay neighborhood.
This project was in line with similar projects in ethnic neighborhoods. For instance, the metal Puerto
Rican flag sculptures in Humbolt Park that were mentioned above were created as part of one of the
projects. The design for the streetscape included several pylons along North Halsted Street and, after
complaints that the pylons would mark connected areas as being gay, flower planters to mark side
streets. As quoted by Curt Winkle in Planning and LGBTQ Communities: The Need for Inclusive
Queer Spaces, the designs from the Chicago Department of Transportation specified that the columns

Description Of The Coypu ( Myocastor Coypus )
INTRODUCTION: The Coypu (Myocastor coypus) is a large, robust, semi aquatic rat like rodent and
a casual observer may misidentify a Coypu as a beaver or a muskrat, especially when it is swimming.
However, this superficial resemblance ends when a more detailed study of the animal is made
(LeBlanc. 2005). The average size of the head and body is 52cm with the length of the tail being an
additional 37cm. The body is highly arched with a large almost triangular head. The Incisors are large
with an orange pigmented surface. The Coypu s pelage contains two types of fur; soft dense under fur
and long coarse guard hairs, varying in colour from yellowish brown to reddish brown. The under fur
is dark grey and is thicker on the abdomen (Gosling. 1981). The legs are short, with the hind feet
being significantly longer than the forefeet, and possess five digits; the first four are connected by
webbing and the fifth is free. The forefeet have four long, flexible digits with no webbing and a
vestigial thumb. Because of their dexterous forepaws, coypu can excavate soil to construct sometimes
complex burrow systems within riparian areas and handle very small food items (Woods et al. 1992; D
Elia, 1999). The tail is long and rounded with a scaly texture and scantily haired (D Elia. 1999). In
addition to having webbed hind feet, coypu have several other adaptations conducive to their semi
aquatic lifestyle. The eyes, ears, and nostrils of coypu are set high on their heads. Furthermore,

Normandy Invasion Research Paper
The Normandy Invasion may have been the single most important battle on the Western Front of
World War II. Much planning went into the siege of these beaches that ensured a tough, but inevitable
victory, as well as other factors, such as the exploitation of the Germans ignorance of the attack. The
Allied Forces took much time in plotting the invasion of the beaches of Normandy, France to establish
a sure victory, as they d be sacrificing many troops and resources. They also skillfully and masterfully
concocted a planned hoax by deciding they would place dummy landing sites all around the eastern
coast, set up dozens (hundreds, even) tanks to bluff an invasion of the wrong site. They even planned
to organize a faux radio network, that told ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole war had led up to this day, especially since the plans for the invasion were being made
even as early as 1942 or 1943, after the Soviet Union requested help to relieve pressure on their
military in Eastern Europe following the Battle of Stalingrad, where they and Romania lost over
250,000 men combined. The thoughts of a soldier who had been fighting all throughout World War II
would have probably consisted of, one, wanted to go home already, but two, thinking that nothing
could be worse than what they had already experienced. They knew in their minds that they were
ready for this mission, and had the plans of the military backing up their claims of definite victory. A
soldier would, of course, hold their personal doubts and fright, but when counted among many fellow
troops willing to fight for the same cause as their own, they can t help but feel the collective morale of
their comrades and themselves. This personal morale was only boosted by the genius work of WWII s
commanders skills in speech. The day before the actual attack, General Eisenhower gave his men a
motivational speech they d never forget. An excerpt from the speech: Soldiers, sailors, and airmen of
the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon the greatest crusade toward which we
have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. Though General George Patton
also gave his own speech that day, I won t bore you with another quote (though Patton was far from a
boring individual). Instead, you should now be able to reflect on how important morale was for the
forces getting ready to siege Normandy. The Allied troops were physically and mentally prepared,
while the Germans in Normandy, if anything, had lost morale as they believed there was nothing to do
when stationed in that

The Internet And The Development Of The World Wide Web
During the 1990s, people have generally used computers to write papers, play games, and track
business productivity; however, this was not use for communication, research, shopping and online
banking. Tim Berners Lee has changed how individuals use the Internet may access the World Wide
Web. This presented paper highlights the history of the Internet and the development of the World
Wide Web. It also describes the masterminds who created and developed the Web, enabled its
popularization through the Web browser, and greatly improved its value by enabling web search. With
the whole technology advances and changes, the differences between the first generation, Web 1.0 and
Web 2.0 is also important to consider because it does affect the use of the Internet, as well as
education philosophy changes. An economic bubble happens whenever the price of an asset soars then
plummets over a certain period of time. The United States market s dot com bubble began in April
1997 and ended in June 2003. In the aftermath of the bubble burst, there were many companies that
survived such as Amazon and Google; however, dot com businesses such as pet.com and webvan.com
have failed during the burst. During this period, competition was great, where much of the social gain
from the Internet was passed to the consumers, leaving little surplus in the hands of the investors.

Summary Of Three Sovereigns For Sarah
The movie Three Sovereigns for Sarah is about a terrified town that is struck by the devils witchcraft
and takes extraordinarily inhuman actions to rid themselves of the bad fortune. The story is told by an
old woman who was accused of being a witch, but luckily lives long enough to confront her accusers.
Three Sovereigns for Sarah has many contributing factors as to why witchcraft was believed and used
as a genuine reason to murder citizens of the thirteen colonies such factors that lead to these absurd
and ridiculous decisions and actions are likely to be based off the early sexist concepts of gender roles
that took place in the colonies, the strong pull to uniform religious beliefs, and a superstition that
terrified people into an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The religious beliefs of these days and ages were extremely strict, controlling, and very similar. The
priest in this movie was very influential, he was the sole reason for the belief in the witchcraft that
took over this town. Few males in charge made the decision to hang the Salem witches, but essentially
the priest made the overall decision. He fed stories to the other females and males about their
witchcraft and how the devils work had been done. It is believed that the priest did this so he could
control the land and money that was possessed by the women he wrongfully accused and murdered.
The early Colonists practiced Puritan religion. This religion consisted of believing that God had
formed an agreement with the Colonists. They claimed that they were higher than all others and God
made that known to them. They claimed that God wanted them to set a better example for all the
British people who were going to be damned to hell for all the sins and filth they had done. This
prompted the Colonists to live a very disciplined, unsatisfactory, and dull life.
A definite theory on why the Salem Witchcraft was so strongly believed involved how powerful
gender roles were. Although it is claimed in the Puritan ways that women were to be treated with
kindness and consideration, they were to be seen very little and never heard. Wives and

The Framers Of The U.s. Constitution
In order to understand the motivation of the Framers of the U.S. Constitution one must review the
event leading up to it. When the war with Great Britain finally came to a close, the Colonialist of
America became weary of what was to come. Many who were well versed in Tomas Hobbes and John
Locke feared, without proper action and if not too long delayed, the that states would find themselves
in a State of Nature. In time, after it became clear that with the abdication of George III the
sovereignty was unclear, the states engaged in an endless war of economic discrimination against
commerce from other states. Property rights for the public and property right for private owners were
in disarray to the point that, in fact, the western inhabitants of North Carolina formed themselves into
the independent state of Frankland. They did so on the ground that they believed themselves to be in a
State of Nature, and so, would declare themselves to be an independent republic that would
thenceforth govern themselves. This lead to a small civil war to which after the state collapsed. North
Eastern New York, on the same ground, seceded from New York and declared themselves Vermont.
Also in limbo was taxation and debt. Debt after the war was grew to a point that some industries and
states were more than three times the annual income of said industries; such was the case of the
Tobacco trade. Taxation was only able to be acquired by state governments and each state had
different laws

Dysfunctional Communication In Office Space
The film Office Space is a satirical perspective of working at an office and it demonstrates many
issues that causes the situation to unfold in a manner that s funny to the audience, but in all
seriousness it shows how this does exist at certain workplaces. Furthermore, from the beginning the
one issue that s apparent and presented immediately is the dysfunctional communicational between
peter and two out of the eight bosses shown on screen Lumbergh and Portwood. They ask if he
completed the cover sheets for the sacred TPS reports, but the way they ask him about it and the way
they talk to him is in a dull, condescending, and uninterested tone. This scene exemplified the barriers
that disrupt the communication between Peter and his Bosses. ... Show more content on

Not to mention the things the supervisors are communicating with peter eventually become repeated at
nauseum and he never gets the opportunity to explain himself. If management communicated honestly
with the employees, and practiced active listening the employees at initech would feel more valued
and their motivation will improve since they know what to expect from their supervisors. In addition,
there are many communication contexts and barriers in the film that causes Peter and his coworkers to
disengaged and annoyed, and after a while become rebellious. First, the one rich channel of
communication that s present is the face to face interactions that begins the film between Peter and
Lumbergh, but the only way for face to face communication to be effective is for the sender and
receiver to be in sync. Additionally, the constant interruptions and selective listening from Lumbergh
and Portwood causes Peter to lose motivation because he doesn t have the rapport he would like with
his supervisors and since he doesn t have direction on know how he can improve he wouldn t be able
to get the cover sheets for the TPS done on time. In regards to this, Peter experiences relation testing
in terms of when Lumbergh asks him to come in on the weekend, and starts then he starts to ignore
and neglect his work in spite of him and other bosses. Meanwhile, he discloses his dissatisfaction with
his job, and how idiotic management was to Joanna a girl from a restaurant he went to. He tells her
doesn t intend to quit, but not show up anymore. In the following paragraph this situation will explain
how Peter took a leadership role by influencing, gaining trust, and motivating his coworkers to ally
themselves to achieve common goal. On the other hand, Joanna finds the things Peter says about his

The Color Red in American Beauty Essay
The Color Red in American Beauty
The beauty that addresses itself to the eyes is only the spell of the moment; the eye of the body is not
always that of the soul. George Sand hit the nail right on the head when he said this in 1872.
Appearance versus reality has been a central theme in many American creative works including the
film American Beauty. American Beauty is a film that delves into your typical, middle class suburban
American home and slowly uncovers all of the abnormalities that lie within. The family is portrayed
as normal but as the films tag line suggests look closer then it is possible to fully understand the
implications that takes place in this seemingly happy home. The film is masterfully directed by the

Another adaptation of the title is the beauty of a perfect American home much like the Burnham s
home appears to be. But all have flaws, the rose has thorns to prick, Angela has her fear of being
ordinary and the Burnham s home, well it too is cursed with the reality that they are a dysfunctional
family.
Red roses become not only a motif in the film; they come to represent symbols. They are prevalent in
almost every scene. They are in the garden; almost every room in the house has a bouquet of brightly
colored roses in a vase. They are the centerpieces to the dining room table. This table becomes a motif
in the film as well, the family has its nightly dinner ritual and over the course of the movie we see a
delineation of the family at this table. Rose petals are the symbol of sex as well, they are seen
surrounding Angela for Lester, they burst out of her blouse, they pop out of his mouth after he
fantasizes of kissing her and they fall from the ceiling onto his face when he pictures her above his
bed. The front door to the house becomes a motif as well, with constant references from neighbors
about the house with the red door. As if the door is a gateway to the oddities lurking inside the house.
Within the house Mendes restricted the colors to a monochromatic blue gray scheme to emphasize

Technology has affected all aspects of life and the criminal justice system is no exception. There are
so many ways where technology has been incorporated in the criminal justice and police departments
that I really do not know where to start. The invention of the lie detector test was huge in my opinion.
It can be given in the criminal justice system to try to get to the bottom of the truth. In police
departments you have the use of closed circuit televisions for property security, cameras in police
units, tape recorders used in police units and when conducting investigations and so forth.

In my opinion this is an excellent technological advancement that saves time and improves accuracy.
Facial recognition technology makes use of unalterable features of a face, such as the distance
between the centers of the pupils of the eye. It then uses an algorithm, a finite set of steps for solving a
problem, which converts the image to numbers . Weiss, Davis (2004)
Live scan is a fingerprint system that can be used in the criminal justice system and also for non
criminal justice use. Most law enforcement departments require all officers to be fingerprinted using
live scan technology. Once an officer is fingerprinted, his or her records are sent into varies databases.
The officers are required to be free of a criminal background so the prints are checks for previous
crimes. The prints are then sent to Sacramento (California) to various departments for processing such
as BSIC which is the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. Because live scan is inkless it
saves paper and time because it s electronic which is better for the environment and more convenient
for law enforcement agencies. When a criminal is arrested his or her fingerprints are taken with the
live scan system and cross referenced for a match in a number of systems including the FBI. If there is
a match then the information is sent to the police department which includes the suspect s weight,
height, sex, and date of birth.

Thesis On Street Food Vendors
Introduction: Street food, it is nigh impossible to ignore, some would say that it has become a quirk or
niche of particular societies, cultures and civilizations; and given it s presence on streets and other
public places it may certainly well be. The attention of the researchers had been drawn towards street
food owing to the fact that it is commonly associated with ideas of having a generally suspect nature,
having intriguing tastes, affordable and low prices, and of course being influenced by the stature of the
people which produce and sell them for consumption. Needless to say, this has given street food the
opinion of being unsanitary, unhealthy, contaminated and also other words with which to describe it as
being customarily unpleasant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers then considered the tenacity of these street food vendors, associating such thoughts as

vendors, and then sought out some semblance of organization to these and attempt to bridge such

Michigan Water
Water Essay
The state of Michigan has so many interesting facts. Those facts include the well known Great Lakes
and how it Influences the population and the environment. Also, an important fact is that Michigan
came into being through erosion and the formation from huge glaciers. Over the years, many plants
and animals came into existence in the both the Upper Peninsula and Lower Peninsula. The state is
one of leaders in the areas of production and manufacturing. Natives and settlers came over to utilize
the land and make it what the state is today, Michigan. Michigan is a state that borders on four out of
the five Great Lakes. Those lakes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This geological landscape was the Great Ice Age. Michigan was affected by the Wisconsin Glacier
which was an extremely huge ice mass. It stretched from its tip of the Hudson Bay, and its bottom
down by the lower end of the Ohio River. While the climate was changing and not warming up, the
meltwater from the glacier carried rocks and soils afar. This created low hills across the state of
Michigan. The grinding of boulders created particles of various sizes and weight. The heaviest pieces
fell first. These pieces formed ridges, which in turn formed flowing streams. The weight of that glacier
over Michigan was gradually becoming smaller. The earth began to act like a sponge. The Michigan
landscape began to emerge. Plants began to spring up on the landscape and formed into suitable
growing environments. These environments made it a place for communities to start growing and to
become prosperous with

Couples In China
As a worldwide community, is it not our duty to ensure that every human is entitled to the basic
human right of life?
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, envisaged and signed by 193 countries, accepts that
every citizen in every country is entitled to every human right in the declaration. It is a matter of
principle that such rights should be enforced with all the power invested in the government and in the
justice system. We all deserve equal rights; yet in many countries, they are often flouted.
On the 10th December 1948, following the Second World War, the Universal Declaration was
implemented to ensure that such a horrendous conflict would never occur again. This was embraced
by the International Community and it was determined that every individual should have equal rights.
Human rights are pivotal for justice. It is unfathomable, incomprehensible and unjustifiable for
anything to take precedence over human rights!

Couples in China are deprived of Article 16 of the Human Rights which states that everyone has the
right to marriage and to found a family . This degradation of people is only a precursor to a horrific
culture of infanticide and abortion. Additionally, China s defiance of these rights has created
generational and gender inequality. The percentage of mature citizens outweighs the percentile of
young adults below the age of 39. This has had and continues to have an extremely detrimental effect
on China s economy due to the fact that the country lacks experienced individuals of a working age.
Despite China s population growth, the solution to their social and economic problem should not come
at the expense of the population s basic human rights. The gender inequality has precipitated an
unbalanced ratio: 121 boys for every 100 girls! Consequently, women are being kidnapped and forced

Black September Research Paper
September 5th, 1972 is a day that will forever live in infamy for the Israelis. During the 1972 Summer
Olympics, located in Munich, Germany, eight Palestinian terrorists killed two Israeli olympians, and
held nine others hostage. Ultimately, after much deliberation and poor planning and execution of
rescue operations and intervention procedures by German officials, all hostages were found dead
along with five of the eight terrorists. On the opposite end, this day will for live in glory and triumph
for the Palestinians and their supporters. This day made the struggles of the Palestinian people known.
Many of them, after hearing the news, cheered for their fellow Palestinians. The Palestinian legacy of
the Black September attacks is that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the catalyst for, figuratively, putting Palestine on the map and subsequently cementing that
place there. For making Palestine a word that people knew and used. For letting people know they ll
do whatever it takes to get retribution for the forced removal of their people from their own land and
homes. For getting them the recognition they had sincerely deserved since the State of Israel was
created. In essence this was the catalyst for many important events not only in Palestinian history but
also Israeli history. There had been a press conference held after these events with the three remaining
Black September representatives. When asked what they thought they achieved this was the response
from their translator, They have made their voice heard by the universe or the world who has not been
hearing before. And this is the later response from Jamal Al Gashey, I m proud of what I did at
Munich because it helped the Palestinian cause enormously. Before Munich the world had no idea
about our struggle but on that day the name of Palestine was repeated all over the world. Still to this
day the Munich Massacre leaves a longstanding impression on Palestinian culture, Israeli culture, and
even other cultures all around the world. The majority of Palestine continues to support the Black
September attacks, as to pay homage to the members for liberating their suffering and subsequently
making what they had gone through known to the world. There are also pro Palestine supporters not
only in Israel but also, other Middle Eastern countries and territories, as well as here in the United
States, and really just all over the

Multitask Research Paper
Findings regarding multitasking seems to be a lot of talk in Psychology. Theme four says that humans
are responsible limited agents and we have agency, meaning the ability to act as agents in the world.
This involves the ability to chose, but it is limited. This relates to multitasking. Multitasking is the
practice of doing multiple things at the same time (SGWN pg 135). Theme four can relate to
multitasking because having agency implies not only we make choices but also that we can change
ourselves in some way. Theme four is relating to multitasking and saying that we have the choice to
multitask and do multiple things at one time even though there are limitations on how much we are
able to change since we exist in a particular time and place. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This involves the ability to chose, but it is limited. I agree with that when it comes to multitasking
because you can chose what two tasks you re going to try to accomplish at once. For example, if you
chose to text and drive acting as agents in this world, that is your choice but it is limited because you
are limited to paying full attention to the road if you text and drive. For example, as mentioned in
SGWN with texting and driving, the drivers trying to multitask like this become so engaged in their
conversations that their minds no longer seemed to be in the car (SGWN pg 135). This is a good
example for the limited agency of theme four because the texting and driving limits the driver from
paying attention to what they need to. Likewise, I agree with theme five as well. Theme five states that
we are meaning seekers and we always make sense of things. Also, we seek meaning through
experience. I agree with this relating to multitasking because people seek meaning through experience.
With the example of the texting and driving, someone could seek the meaning through the experience
of texting and driving. As mentioned in SGWN, legislature is trying to ban using mobile devices while
driving (SGWN pg 135) and this is all because of experiences and personal experience is a part of

History And Philosophy Midterm Paper
Philosophy Midterm Paper For centuries scientists have been studying everything from evolution to
space. During that time, there have also been projects upon projects that were taken on by new,
emerging scientists who will continue the work of the teams who came before them. Each new team
brings a new discovery. Something that was previously just a question, such as what makes us water
different than dirt? , has now been answered due to dozens of different teams all working towards the
same goal. Thanks to those scientists, we now know what makes water special. It s not a physical
property, such as colorless, but it s the fact that it s made up of hydrogen and oxygen atoms (F. Jabr 4).
Taking this concept of discovery, we can apply it to something more complex such as the definition of
life. Life is complicated, and many teams of researchers and scientists alike have worked towards the
goal of defining it. Before reading this article, it was assumed that the scientific community could
basically agree on one conclusion: A living thing has order, grows and develops, maintains
homeostasis, has a metabolic structure, reacts to stimuli, reproduces, and evolves. This definition of
life can be compacted into this simple statement made by NASA, [Life is] a self sustaining system
capable of Darwinian evolution. However, this statement has been proven untrue by Ferris Jabr s
theory that life doesn t actually exist because it s a concept rooted in the human mind. The reason he

organization of the data along with the time measurement are improvements that can be made. Instead
of measuring five minutes I would measure every 15 minutes, making it four rounds in one hour.
Within that hour we can also use a timer so that we don t lose track of time. Also the time that we had
to measure was on a Monday and Wednesday, for the next observation I would add in a Tuesday or

theme from this observation was gender, age and race majority that ordered at Chic Fil A. The
majority of the students who ordered here make up the 72% population who are white at CMU,
therefore it was not a surprise that they were the majority of the clients (College Factual, 2013). But
there are about 8% more females on campus, but males ordered more than females (College Factual,

researching the gender, age, and race of the people at the university center that order Chic Fil A. I
decided to research this because I have noticed the crazy long line during lunch ever since they opened
the restaurant in the beginning of the year. I thought it would be interesting to learn which students at

program an individual can insure themselves against illness that may present during their senior years.
Additionally, he commented that there were more than 18 million low income Americans who are

The provider, practice, or institution may falsely claim to have provided a service or used supplies for

Medicare fraud involves referrals. If one solicits, pays, or accepts money to encourage referrals
because the services are reimbursed by Federal healthcare programs, they are participating in
Medicare fraud. This type of fraud is addressed in the Anti Kickback Statute. Lastly, Medicare fraud
occurs when the complexity of services are overstated and billed at a higher than necessary rate. This

the Internet is its multimedia and hypertext capabilities. The Web provides information in many

such as animation video. Hypertext links allows users to move from one piece of information to

Sigmund Freud Theories
Sigmund Freud s Theories in Relation to Brave New World
One might imagine, what could truly constitute A brave new world? What parameters must that world
fall within? What decisive mind is manning the ship headed toward this utopia? Certainly, this world
has seen innumerous attempts, heard the many strident voices, which barreled forth and propelled
society toward that image. One of those voices belonged to Sigmund Freud, the father of
psychoanalysis, and even, perhaps, a deity of this brave new world.
Sigmund Freud was born May 6th, 1856, in Frieberg, Moravia to a textile dealer named Jacob Freud
(Chiriac, Jean, Sigmund Freud s Childhood ). He was one of eight children, five sisters and three
brothers. The family lived in Frieberg until Sigmund was four years old, when the family then moved
to Vienna where Sigmund would remain for the vast majority of his life. By 1873, Freud would go on
to study medicine at the University of Vienna. Freud went get engaged in 1882, to a women who
would bear him six children. The relationship has been largely considered and happy, prosperous
union (Thornton, Stephan).
In 1938, shortly after the Annexation of Austria, Freud s home in Vienna was raided by Nazis. Any of
Freud s works written before May of 1933 were burned for their flippant destigmatization of sexuality

Hydraulic Fracturing
The Split Personality of Hydraulic Fracturing There is wide agreement among most experts and the
public that the current energy sources we use in the United States are in need of a replacement.
Reliance on the fossil fuels of coal and oil are problematic for at least two reasons: their negative
impact on the environment (both in extraction and their use) and the reliance on supplies of these from
other countries, which has created problems on the geopolitical front. Nuclear fission remains a
controversial alternative, considering the risks involved in a catastrophic meltdown and the lack of a
long term waste storage solution. The successful development of horizontal drilling by the energy
industry coupled with the existing technology of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So what s problem? It is the coupling of the twin practices of horizontal drilling and hydraulic
fracturing that allows for the extraction of shale bound natural gas deposits. It is the combination of
those techniques along with the inherent properties of the shale and the natural gas bound in the rock
that has led to a maelstrom of controversy. Unexplained health problems, contaminated groundwater,
mysterious earthquakes, poisonous wastewater, and surprisingly increased carbon footprint have all
been linked to the modern practice of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas. What are the facts backing
up those claims? Is fracking hazardous to our health? Before addressing these key questions, the
economic and geopolitical benefits of our natural gas bounty should be examined. The economic and
political benefits of increased natural gas usage are frequently touted. Since oil imports account for
about half of the U.S. trade deficit (Williamson) then any reduction in our reliance on foreign oil
would certainly have some impact. More significantly, as McGlynn notes geopolitical turmoil has put
foreign sources at risk (1052). Disruption of these sources, mainly from the Persian Gulf, continues to
haunt the foreign policy of the United States. Our continued dependence on this Middle Eastern
petroleum pipeline paints our nation s administrations in a corner when taking a stand against human

a small plastic spray bottle.
After you have collected all of your containers, you will need to wash them. Use dish soap and hot
water. Clean them thoroughly, being sure to scour the tight corners and knurled ridges. Then rinse

bottom. You can also simply pop it out using your fingernail. Place the the fan shaped plastic piece
accurately on the eos top, being sure it is not upside down. Next, unwrap the jolly ranchers and place
them in a bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds then stir with a popsicle stick. Microwave 30 more

The tree allows you to have many servers on the network and you can branch out the network in many
ways. This is useful for colleges, universities and schools so that each of the branches can identify the
relevant systems in their own network.
Advantages
A Tree Topology is supported by many network vendors and even hardware vendors.
A point to point connection is possible with Tree Networks.
All the computers have access to the larger and their immediate networks.
Best topology for branched out networks.
Disadvantages
The Tree Topology network is reliant on the trunk which is the main backbone of the network. If that

In a Network Topology the length of the network depends on the type of cable that is being used.
Star Star Topology is the most common type of network topology that is used in homes and offices. In
the Star Topology there is a central connection point called the hub which is a computer hub or
sometimes just a switch.
Advantages
A Star Network Topology is very easy to manage because of its simplicity in functionality.
The problems can be easily located logically in a Star Topology and therefore is easy to troubleshoot

Dominant Theory Of Public Administration Essay
In the following paragraphs, I will explain the dominant theory in public administration practice and
elaborate on the major theoretical assumptions of the Old Public Administration. As stated in the
question, the world has transformed through globalization, information technology, and devolution of
authority since the latter part of the last century. The dominant theory in public administration has
been replaced from the traditional rule based, authority driven processes of the Old Public
Administration with market based, competition driven tactics in the New Public Management,
beginning in the 1980s (Kettl, 2000, p. 3). This was an effort to privatize government and streamline
public administration to maximize efficiency and productivity. Heavily relying on market mechanisms
to guide public programs, public administrators in the New Public Management are encouraged to
steer, not row, meaning they should not bear the burden of delivering services, but instead define
programs that others will carry out, through contracting or other means (Denhardt Denhardt, 2011, p.
13). Core values of the New Public Management include using private sector and business approaches
to the public sector, squeezing as many services as possible from smaller revenues, market style
incentives, providing customers more choices, and focusing on outputs and outcomes instead of
mainly processes.
The New Public Management in the United States was introduced and popularized by David Osborne

INTRODUCTION:
Mitochondrion produces the energy that cell needs by breaking down sugars, fatty acids and amino
acids to CO2 and H2O. In this process, which is called cellular respiration, the chemical energy in
sugar, fatty acid and amino acid molecules is captured as ATP. Krebs cycle is a part of the cellular
respiration that consists of series of reactions. And succinate dehydrogenase is one of the enzymes that
is used in this cycle. It basically catalyzes the oxidation of succinate to fumarate. In this reaction,
succinate reduces a FAD molecule, which eventually donates its electrons to coenzyme Q. However,
Azide prevents FADH2 from giving its electrons to coenzyme Q, rather than an artificial electron
acceptor, DCIP takes the electrons. DCIP is a dark blue solution that gets lighter as it gains electrons.
As DCIP gets lighter, its absorbance will decrease. So, the rate of the reaction can be relatively
observed by looking at the absorbance values of DCIP since the reaction processes, DCIP gains
electrons and gets lighter in color. By spectrophotometry we took the absorbance values.
Spectrophotometer is used in the process, which sends beams of light to the sample and measures the
intensity of the light that passes through the sample. This way we can

The Value At Risk Management
Most people who have invested or are considering investing in any financial asset, ask at some point
in time the following question: What is the most I can loose on my investment? The Value at Risk,
commonly known as VaR, tries to answer this question within a reasonable bound. VaR is used in
financial mathematics and financial risk management as a risk management tool to measure the risk of
loss of an individual asset or a whole portfolio. Although it provides a good sense of risk one is
undertaking, it shouldn t be an alternative method to risk adjusted value and or other probabilistic
approaches. In the following lines, we first give a general description of the VaR and the story behind
its development and its applications. We then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Financial institutions, mostly commercials and investments banks, use the VAR to gauge the amount
of cash they should hold in their reserve in order to be able to cover the potential loss. Although the
term Value at risk has not been used till the1990s, the origins of its measure lie further back in time.
The arithmetic behind the VaR were developed by Harry Markowitz (1952) in his studies of effects of
asset risk, return, correlation, and diversification on probable investment portfolio returns which
contributed to the modern portfolio theory. In fact, the trigger of the use of VaR came from the crisis
that tormented the financial market and the regulatory responses to these crises. After the great
depression of 1929, the Securities Exchange Act established in 1934 the Security Exchange
Commission (SEC), a federal government agency in charge of regulating stocks and options
exchanges. Since the SEC initially required banks to keep their borrowing below 2000% of their
equity capital, Banks developed risk measures and control devices to ensure that they meet the capital
requirements. In the 1970, the introduction of financial derivatives markets and floating rate
exchanges have significantly increased the volatility, which is the risk, in the financial markets. The
latter was confirmed by the failure in 1995 of Barings, the British investment bank, by the
unauthorized trading in Nikkei (Japan s stock

  • 2. Maxon Breaking America Essay Despite Aspen breaking America s heart before the selection, things get worse much worse for her, she gets selected. I whipped my head back around, and there is it was. The picture of me just after I found out Aspen was saving up to marry me, I looked radiant, hopeful, beautiful. I looked like I was in love, And some idiot thought that love was for Prince Maxon. (Cass,2012,56) Honestly , America couldn t even imagine being in the same room as Prince Maxon , or even being the next daughter of Illea. Also Apsen was considering to marry America and he was the one who told her to enter. What teenage girl wouldn t be confused and terrified? Especially since it s a competition for a crown and love she doesn t want to be a part of. America has her many bold opinions about the Selection. On the day of coming to the castle America made a bold choice by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the whole story, it talks about how the girls in the Selection face suspense because they aren t sure what will happen next , or who Maxon is leaning towards. After the girls made a conclusion on where they stand in the Selection, it impacts another suspenseful moment. Who will get kicked out next? In the perspective of a reader reading this book this is seen as a cause and effect situation . For example, for every girl that is eliminated from the Selection must have done something to provoke Prince Maxon. That leads to the remaining of the girls and on pins and needles so they won t be next ones eliminated. To introduce the characters, Kiera Cass shows that the readers could know more about each character without having them fully introduced. For instance, a good example would be how people can easily tell the personality of Celeste because of what America and the other girls have said behind her back. But truly the author was giving more information about the personalities the different girls have in a silent but directed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Red Dress And The Lesson Summary Dissatisfaction with Societal Roles in The Red Dress and The Lesson The two short stories, The Red Dress and The Lesson, explore assigned roles in society and in the world. People cannot determine the family they are born into and the labels that come from that. In both of the stories, the protagonists are living in unhappy situations. Both girls are navigating a maze of anger and insecurity, and they do not understand why. In The Lesson one girl deals with the societal problem of poverty. She is dealing with society and her position on the economic ladder where choices seem limited. In contrast, the girl in The Red Dress, deals with what seems like the smaller issue of having insecurity in high school. She deals with her position ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the bathroom, the protagonist in The Red Dress speaks with a girl named Mary Fortune. Mary Fortune tells her about her big plans to work her way through college and be independent. The protagonist says that I felt the acute phase of my unhappiness passing, she compares Mary Fortune to herself by stating, Here was someone who had suffered the same defeat as I had I saw that but she was full of energy and self respect (6). Mary chose to accept her role as an outcast and make it her own. She chose to live her life. It is through this conversation with Mary that the protagonist realizes that she could purposefully influence her role in society. Like the protagonist in The Red Dress, after leaving the toy store Sylvia has her own realization about her ability to influence her place in society. Sylvia wonders how some people are able to spend the same amount of money on children s toys that some families are forced to rely on for basic support. She realizes how unfair the structure of society is when she wonders, What kinda work they do and how come we ain t in on it (5). • 4. Parkinson Spoon Google Spoon Before we discuss the actual spoon, a person needs to be familiar with Parkinson s disease. Parkinson s disease is commonly signified by tremors that begin on one side and get progressively worse over a period of time. It is possible for these tremors to develop in the other side of the person as well. The new side usually is not as extreme in the loss of motor functions such as using your hand to feed yourself. (Parkinson s Disease Foundation Inc., 2016). Google has partnered with Liftware to enable people with Parkinson s disease feed themselves with a stabilized spoon. The computer is instrumental to noticing movement of tremors in the hand in which it compensated to the opposite direction to stabilize the spoon. The spoon s handle is where the components are located such as the motors, computer, and the rechargeable battery. (Liftware, n.d.). The challenge is to make specific algorithms to meet the demand of the people purchasing the spoon. A person s tremors might vary at times from mild to severe, and if the computer does not adjust properly a person will spill his or her food. This can be disheartening to the person who feels like they find something to help ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The computer might produce signals that require the battery to lose its power faster, if the algorithms are not carefully created and analyzed. The more reliant a person is on this piece of equipment, the more possibility when it fails the person will not know how to compensate with normal utensils to feed themselves. Nourishment is a required factor for a person to live and with this new technology doctors might learn how to alleviate a person s tremors. EIDs can be defined as infections that are newly emerging or have existed previously in a particular region and then reemerged at a rapidly increasing incidence rate (Calistri et al., 2013). Many of the emerging infectious diseases today, including those caused by transboundary diseases and bioterrorist agents, are zoonotic diseases, which are diseases that are transmissible from both wild and domestic animals to humans (Kahn, 2006). Since then, it has been a growing success in the food and drink industry, directly and indirectly employing over 200,000 people throughout Canada. (McDonald s, 2015, para. 2). McDonald s is generating nearly $4.5 billion in the local annual Canadian economy, while spending $1.5 billion on annual costs for energy, maintenance, landscaping, operating supplies, wages, and benefits (McDonald s, 2015, para 9 14). Throughout Canada, McDonald s Ronald McDonald House Charities provide a welcoming place for families to stay near hospitals while their sick children undergo treatment, including programs offering everything from education to meditation (Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada, 2013, para. 4). Located across from the Alberta Children s Hospital, the Calgary Ronald McDonald House location welcomed over 140 families last year, accomplishing their efforts of keeping families together during difficult times. (Ronald McDonald House Charities Southern Alberta, n.d., image). Although McDonald s succeeds in the community involvement aspect of their business, some stakeholders may believe there is more room for improvement in the company as a whole. However, as the number of businesses geared towards LGBT individuals increased they also migrated. The area that they settled around in the 1990s is located is called Lakeview East; Lakeview East, West Lake View, and Wrigglyville are the three smaller communities that make up the larger Lakeview neighborhood. More specifically, the businesses were clustered around Clark Street and Halsted Street. In 1997 Chicago s Mayor, Richard M. Daley, officially recognized the area as a gay neighborhood. This area, now known as Boystown, was the first gay neighborhood in the United States of America to be officially recognized by the government. The same year city planners under the direction of the Mayor s office devised a plan to create a streetscape that marked North Halsted Street as being a gay neighborhood. This project was in line with similar projects in ethnic neighborhoods. For instance, the metal Puerto Rican flag sculptures in Humbolt Park that were mentioned above were created as part of one of the projects. The design for the streetscape included several pylons along North Halsted Street and, after complaints that the pylons would mark connected areas as being gay, flower planters to mark side streets. As quoted by Curt Winkle in Planning and LGBTQ Communities: The Need for Inclusive Queer Spaces, the designs from the Chicago Department of Transportation specified that the columns rise from the ... • 8. Description Of The Coypu ( Myocastor Coypus ) INTRODUCTION: The Coypu (Myocastor coypus) is a large, robust, semi aquatic rat like rodent and a casual observer may misidentify a Coypu as a beaver or a muskrat, especially when it is swimming. However, this superficial resemblance ends when a more detailed study of the animal is made (LeBlanc. 2005). The average size of the head and body is 52cm with the length of the tail being an additional 37cm. The body is highly arched with a large almost triangular head. The Incisors are large with an orange pigmented surface. The Coypu s pelage contains two types of fur; soft dense under fur and long coarse guard hairs, varying in colour from yellowish brown to reddish brown. The under fur is dark grey and is thicker on the abdomen (Gosling. 1981). The legs are short, with the hind feet being significantly longer than the forefeet, and possess five digits; the first four are connected by webbing and the fifth is free. The forefeet have four long, flexible digits with no webbing and a vestigial thumb. Because of their dexterous forepaws, coypu can excavate soil to construct sometimes complex burrow systems within riparian areas and handle very small food items (Woods et al. 1992; D Elia, 1999). The tail is long and rounded with a scaly texture and scantily haired (D Elia. 1999). In addition to having webbed hind feet, coypu have several other adaptations conducive to their semi aquatic lifestyle. The eyes, ears, and nostrils of coypu are set high on their heads. Much planning went into the siege of these beaches that ensured a tough, but inevitable victory, as well as other factors, such as the exploitation of the Germans ignorance of the attack. The Allied Forces took much time in plotting the invasion of the beaches of Normandy, France to establish a sure victory, as they d be sacrificing many troops and resources. They also skillfully and masterfully concocted a planned hoax by deciding they would place dummy landing sites all around the eastern coast, set up dozens (hundreds, even) tanks to bluff an invasion of the wrong site. The thoughts of a soldier who had been fighting all throughout World War II would have probably consisted of, one, wanted to go home already, but two, thinking that nothing could be worse than what they had already experienced. They knew in their minds that they were ready for this mission, and had the plans of the military backing up their claims of definite victory. A soldier would, of course, hold their personal doubts and fright, but when counted among many fellow troops willing to fight for the same cause as their own, they can t help but feel the collective morale of their comrades and themselves. This personal morale was only boosted by the genius work of WWII s commanders skills in speech. The day before the actual attack, General Eisenhower gave his men a motivational speech they d never forget. An excerpt from the speech: Soldiers, sailors, and airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon the greatest crusade toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. Though General George Patton also gave his own speech that day, I won t bore you with another quote (though Patton was far from a boring individual). Three Sovereigns for Sarah has many contributing factors as to why witchcraft was believed and used as a genuine reason to murder citizens of the thirteen colonies such factors that lead to these absurd and ridiculous decisions and actions are likely to be based off the early sexist concepts of gender roles that took place in the colonies, the strong pull to uniform religious beliefs, and a superstition that terrified people into an ... • 13. The Framers Of The U.s. Constitution In order to understand the motivation of the Framers of the U.S. Constitution one must review the event leading up to it. When the war with Great Britain finally came to a close, the Colonialist of America became weary of what was to come. Many who were well versed in Tomas Hobbes and John Locke feared, without proper action and if not too long delayed, the that states would find themselves in a State of Nature. In time, after it became clear that with the abdication of George III the sovereignty was unclear, the states engaged in an endless war of economic discrimination against commerce from other states. Property rights for the public and property right for private owners were in disarray to the point that, in fact, the western inhabitants of North Carolina formed themselves into the independent state of Frankland. They did so on the ground that they believed themselves to be in a State of Nature, and so, would declare themselves to be an independent republic that would thenceforth govern themselves. This lead to a small civil war to which after the state collapsed. North Eastern New York, on the same ground, seceded from New York and declared themselves Vermont. Also in limbo was taxation and debt. Debt after the war was grew to a point that some industries and states were more than three times the annual income of said industries; such was the case of the Tobacco trade. The Color Red in American Beauty Essay The Color Red in American Beauty The beauty that addresses itself to the eyes is only the spell of the moment; the eye of the body is not always that of the soul. George Sand hit the nail right on the head when he said this in 1872. Appearance versus reality has been a central theme in many American creative works including the film American Beauty. Theme four can relate to multitasking because having agency implies not only we make choices but also that we can change ourselves in some way. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This involves the ability to chose, but it is limited. I agree with that when it comes to multitasking because you can chose what two tasks you re going to try to accomplish at once. For example, if you chose to text and drive acting as agents in this world, that is your choice but it is limited because you are limited to paying full attention to the road if you text and drive. For example, as mentioned in SGWN with texting and driving, the drivers trying to multitask like this become so engaged in their conversations that their minds no longer seemed to be in the car (SGWN pg 135). This is a good example for the limited agency of theme four because the texting and driving limits the driver from paying attention to what they need to. Likewise, I agree with theme five as well. Theme five states that we are meaning seekers and we always make sense of things. Also, we seek meaning through experience. I agree with this relating to multitasking because people seek meaning through experience. What decisive mind is manning the ship headed toward this utopia? Certainly, this world has seen innumerous attempts, heard the many strident voices, which barreled forth and propelled society toward that image. One of those voices belonged to Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, and even, perhaps, a deity of this brave new world. Sigmund Freud was born May 6th, 1856, in Frieberg, Moravia to a textile dealer named Jacob Freud (Chiriac, Jean, Sigmund Freud s Childhood ). He was one of eight children, five sisters and three brothers. The family lived in Frieberg until Sigmund was four years old, when the family then moved to Vienna where Sigmund would remain for the vast majority of his life. Hydraulic Fracturing The Split Personality of Hydraulic Fracturing There is wide agreement among most experts and the public that the current energy sources we use in the United States are in need of a replacement. Reliance on the fossil fuels of coal and oil are problematic for at least two reasons: their negative impact on the environment (both in extraction and their use) and the reliance on supplies of these from other countries, which has created problems on the geopolitical front. Nuclear fission remains a controversial alternative, considering the risks involved in a catastrophic meltdown and the lack of a long term waste storage solution. The successful development of horizontal drilling by the energy industry coupled with the existing technology of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So what s problem? It is the coupling of the twin practices of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing that allows for the extraction of shale bound natural gas deposits. It is the combination of those techniques along with the inherent properties of the shale and the natural gas bound in the rock that has led to a maelstrom of controversy. Unexplained health problems, contaminated groundwater, mysterious earthquakes, poisonous wastewater, and surprisingly increased carbon footprint have all been linked to the modern practice of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas. What are the facts backing up those claims? Is fracking hazardous to our health? Before addressing these key questions, the economic and geopolitical benefits of our natural gas bounty should be examined. The economic and political benefits of increased natural gas usage are frequently touted. Since oil imports account for about half of the U.S. trade deficit (Williamson) then any reduction in our reliance on foreign oil would certainly have some impact. More significantly, as McGlynn notes geopolitical turmoil has put foreign sources at risk (1052). Disruption of these sources, mainly from the Persian Gulf, continues to haunt the foreign policy of the United States. • 36. Dominant Theory Of Public Administration Essay In the following paragraphs, I will explain the dominant theory in public administration practice and elaborate on the major theoretical assumptions of the Old Public Administration. As stated in the question, the world has transformed through globalization, information technology, and devolution of authority since the latter part of the last century. The dominant theory in public administration has been replaced from the traditional rule based, authority driven processes of the Old Public Administration with market based, competition driven tactics in the New Public Management, beginning in the 1980s (Kettl, 2000, p. 3). This was an effort to privatize government and streamline public administration to maximize efficiency and productivity. Heavily relying on market mechanisms to guide public programs, public administrators in the New Public Management are encouraged to steer, not row, meaning they should not bear the burden of delivering services, but instead define programs that others will carry out, through contracting or other means (Denhardt Denhardt, 2011, p. 13). Core values of the New Public Management include using private sector and business approaches to the public sector, squeezing as many services as possible from smaller revenues, market style incentives, providing customers more choices, and focusing on outputs and outcomes instead of mainly processes. Summary Of Succinate Dehydrogenase Activity Of Mitochondria Succinate Dehydrogenase Activity of Mitochondria Student Name: Lolwa Alfouzan SMU Id Number: A00423662 Date:16, November 2017 Lab time: 2:30 5:29 Biol2321(cell biology) Lab Section:(01) Lab (7) Full lab report INTRODUCTION: Mitochondrion produces the energy that cell needs by breaking down sugars, fatty acids and amino acids to CO2 and H2O. In this process, which is called cellular respiration, the chemical energy in sugar, fatty acid and amino acid molecules is captured as ATP. Krebs cycle is a part of the cellular respiration that consists of series of reactions. And succinate dehydrogenase is one of the enzymes that is used in this cycle. It basically catalyzes the oxidation of succinate to fumarate. In this reaction, succinate reduces a FAD molecule, which eventually donates its electrons to coenzyme Q. However, Azide prevents FADH2 from giving its electrons to coenzyme Q, rather than an artificial electron acceptor, DCIP takes the electrons. DCIP is a dark blue solution that gets lighter as it gains electrons. As DCIP gets lighter, its absorbance will decrease. So, the rate of the reaction can be relatively observed by looking at the absorbance values of DCIP since the reaction processes, DCIP gains electrons and gets lighter in color. By spectrophotometry we took the absorbance values. Spectrophotometer is used in the process, which sends beams of light to the sample and measures the intensity of the light that passes through the sample. This way we can ... The Value At Risk Management Most people who have invested or are considering investing in any financial asset, ask at some point in time the following question: What is the most I can loose on my investment? The Value at Risk, commonly known as VaR, tries to answer this question within a reasonable bound. VaR is used in financial mathematics and financial risk management as a risk management tool to measure the risk of loss of an individual asset or a whole portfolio. Although it provides a good sense of risk one is undertaking, it shouldn t be an alternative method to risk adjusted value and or other probabilistic approaches. Financial institutions, mostly commercials and investments banks, use the VAR to gauge the amount of cash they should hold in their reserve in order to be able to cover the potential loss. Although the term Value at risk has not been used till the1990s, the origins of its measure lie further back in time. The arithmetic behind the VaR were developed by Harry Markowitz (1952) in his studies of effects of asset risk, return, correlation, and diversification on probable investment portfolio returns which contributed to the modern portfolio theory. In fact, the trigger of the use of VaR came from the crisis that tormented the financial market and the regulatory responses to these crises. After the great depression of 1929, the Securities Exchange Act established in 1934 the Security Exchange Commission (SEC), a federal government agency in charge of regulating stocks and options exchanges. Since the SEC initially required banks to keep their borrowing below 2000% of their equity capital, Banks developed risk measures and control devices to ensure that they meet the capital requirements. In the 1970, the introduction of financial derivatives markets and floating rate exchanges have significantly increased the volatility, which is the risk, in the financial markets. The latter was confirmed by the failure in 1995 of Barings, the British investment bank, by the unauthorized trading in Nikkei (Japan s stock ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
