Essay on Hardships on Cold Mountain
Hardships on Cold Mountain
The events one goes through in his or her life often shapes the person he or she becomes. The
challenges faced early in life work to strengthen one s personality and enable them to live and
flourish. In the novel Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier the reader learns about the many obstacles
Ruby has had to face while growing up. These hardships added to the person that she became and
made her strong enough to face the obstacles that come later in life. In being faced with many
obstacles in life Ruby was able to learn from them, become a stronger person and therefore survive.
Because of her lack of love and parenting, Ruby was forced to mature and learn how to survive at

Without the presence of her father most of the time Ruby had to learn to survive on her own. While
Stobrod would leave her for day or weeks at a times Ruby had to foraged for wild food. Grubbed for
roots, caught fish on traps she twisted together out of willow boughs. Ruby was forced too mature
quickly in order to survive with these problems. Other than the lack of a father Ruby also had to
overcome external hardships, living in conditions less than adequate: They lived in a dirt cabin, little
better than a roofed pen. She had slept on a kind of miniature loft platform, just a shelf, really. Ruby
awoke many a morning with an inch of snow atop her pile of quilts, because there was no ceiling. (Pg.
105) It is apparent that Ruby was not given the life of luxury that Ada had, and was put in a situation
where she either had to learn to live, or die.
Ruby used these hardships in her early life to succeed later on. The survival skills Ruby was forced to
learn as a child to survive, helped support her and Ada while staying with Ada. When Ruby first meets
Ada, she realizes that Ada is in the same situation she was as a child. Ada is alone in the world, and
does not even have the drive the Ruby had to survive. Ruby uses the knowledge she has gained
through her life to teach Ada what she needs to know to survive and flourish. Although Ruby could
just as easily have done the work and let Ada be she goes out

Average Fuel Economy
. In 2012, President Obama signed into law a drastic Corporate Average Fuel Economy (C.A.F.E.)
standard whereas all new passenger cars and trucks must increase fuel economy to 54.5 miles per
gallon (MPG) by 2025. This new law touts that it will save American consumers more than $8,000 in
gas over the life of the vehicle, reduce oil consumption by 2 million barrels of oil per day, and cut
harmful greenhouse gases by 6 billion metric tons over the life of the program (The White House). On
the surface, these statistics appear to benefit both the consumer, and the earth. However, when one
looks at the bigger picture and statistics, it does very little to benefit either the earth or even less the
consumer. If the administration really wanted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Taylor B. Hart Abstract
Antisocial Personality Disorder is a very rare disorder. The criteria to be diagnosed with Antisocial
Personality Disorder has been changed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
throughout many years. The rareness of this disorder can be considered beneficial in the world
because of the way people diagnosed with it become and what they do to others. Many people
diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder find their self in prison. A variety of causes pertain to
this disorder. Very few treatments of this disorder seem to work of this that has been tested.
Researchers are still working on a better way to treat this disorder. The defense mechanisms associated
with antisocial personality disorder are quite common and the same during the course of diagnosis.
Antisocial Personality Disorder
Antisocial personality disorder (APD or ASPD) is a mental disorder in which a person s approach in
any given situation as well as his style of thinking is neglecting towards others. People with this
disorder are commonly known as psychopaths or sociopaths. An individual with APD shows empathy
and disregards people s thoughts and feelings. Those with APD can be characterized as morally
reprehensible. They are the ones that seem to say all of the right things. Antisocial personality

Literary Elements In Bird By Bird
Writing, as described by E.L. Doctorow, is an exploration. In her novel, Bird by Bird, Anne Lamott
explores the writing process, providing her insight on stylistic, theoretical, and instructional points.
These points are essential in the composure of a book and are prevalent in many literary works such as
Tim O Brien s The Things they Carried. In his book, O Brien relives his time on the frontlines of the
Vietnam War, telling fictional stories of life before, during, and post war. The novels are tied together
with O Brien s use of character development, dialogue, and design setting strategies as discussed in
Bird by Bird.
One of the main concepts Lamott stresses in her novel, Bird by Bird, is writing about the characters in
a way that helps

Essay on The Three Main Accounting Professions
This report is on the three main accounting professions. I will be talking about CA, CGA and CMA
and what they do for a living. These three accounting professions may seem the same but I will be
explaining how they are different. I will discuss all of these details in my report.
I ll start off talking about the roles and duties of these three accounting professions. A Chartered
Accountant s role or purpose is providing professional advice, aiming to maximise profitability on
behalf of their client or employer and undertaking financial audits 1. A Chartered Accountant has
many things to do for a living. They have to review the company systems and analyze the risks
involved, perform tests to check financial information, advise ... Show more content on

In addition to this they have to ensure future stability, growth and profitability of a business 7.
Next, these three accounting designations differ from each other because they all have different roles
and responsibilities to commit to. A Chartered Accountant job differs from the other two accounting
designations because their purpose is to provide advice on how businesses can earn more money and
find any forensic accounting in the business. 2. A Certified General Accountant job differs from the
other two accounting designations because their purpose is to help businesses save money and carry
out any financial activities from their respective business 3. A Certified Management Accountant job
differs from the other two accounting designations because their purpose is to help a business grow, be
stable and make more profit in the long term 7. These reasons explain why these three accounting
designations differ. The life of an accountant is important but what is more important is how they get
the job. I ll be discussing the employment of these three accountants. A Chartered Accountant works
in many industries and businesses 8. They tend to work in commerce businesses but could also work
overseas, at the government and public practice 8. Chartered Accountants are

The Media s Negative Portrayal of African American Males
They squirmed, pencils tapping their desks anxiously; none of their papers contained more than five

And just as the reign of these tyrants appears be coming to an end, another barrier to equality is
appearing on the horizon: the media.
In my experience, TV in general is doing a huge disservice to any hopes of future racial parity by its
extremely unfair portrayal of the young African American male. These young men are literally only
shown on TV as sports stars, in the very best cases, and unfortunately most commonly seen as jewel
adorned rappers, spewing obscenities, making offensive gestures at the camera, hustling around
scantily clad young women as if they are simply commodities, and rapping about having sex and
smoking weed. Honestly, in the past few months I have yet to see a young African American male
portrayed as thoughtful, analytical, poetic, artistic, or even, sadly enough, remotely intelligent or
mature.
This might be acceptable if the case was such, but my experience alone proves otherwise. I know
plenty of young African American males who are mature beyond their years, and extremely
academically inclined. However, for reasons unbeknownst to me, the media industry is either stuck on
typecasting these men or deliberately choosing to represent them only as non intellectual people. This
is an outrage because inherently it does not allow young African American males to even entertain the
idea that they can and should rise above the image of themselves with which they are barraged every
day. By promoting these unjust

Why Women Still CanT Have It All By Anne-Marie Slaughter

very successful women who had worked for Hillary Clinton at the state department being the first
woman policy planner. She begins the essay by explaining a conversation that came up between
herself and a colleague who held a senior position in the White House. She tells her colleague that is
has been very difficult for her to be away from her son at work, when he needs her at home. At this
point Slaughter comes up with the idea to write an article about these struggles she and many women

This reason could eventually lead to women either being stressed because they don t have enough time
to fulfill their needs at work and home, and also could eventually lead to a decision against having
children altogether. Slaughter also includes examples of some very successful women that have
struggled to raise a family due to the fact that they are so limited with time, while most successful
men, if not all, are still able to balance the time of have a family and a high end job. It s easy to
understand how this can be a very difficult problem for most women to get around. Even if they find a
very successful job, it s much more challenging for them to be a good mom while also doing their
overall best in their profession. I thought Slaughter shared a very interesting quote halfway through
her article to help sum up her thoughts from Mary Matalin, (a lady who resigned after only two years
in order to spend more time with her children.) Matalin says, having control of your schedule is the
only way that women who want a career and a family can make it work. Quote from The Atlantic. In
the article Why Men Still Can t Have It All, by Richard Dorment, a senior writer and editor in esquire
magazine, Dorment responds to Slaughter s article by claiming men face the same problem as women
do. He claims that recent times have made it much more difficult for men to balance work and family
life. He

Social And Cultural Events In The 20th And 21st Century
Education has been affected greatly by social and cultural events of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Because education follows the moves of society, the need for new skills in life and in the workplace
change and students can be career and college ready. This, however, has not always been the case. The
first of two main cultural and social events focused on are the events that led up to the Brown vs. the
Board of Education Supreme Court case, which resulted in the desegregation of schools. The second
are the effects that the Great Recession had on the education system. In the 1940s the Civil Rights
Movement began gaining strength and the country began moving slowly to desegregation. In 1947, in
the face of much opposition, Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player.
When he traveled to the south he was denied access into hotels, restaurants, and other venues because
of this race. Because Robinson was in the army the armed forces became desegregated in 1948 and
eventually led to the elimination of segregated schools (Schwartz, 2003). During this era African
American students were in separate but equal schools although many black schools suffered from poor
facilities and a lack of funding and other amenities that were provided at white schools. Black students
were often bussed great distances to attend school. In 1952, the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) lawyers represented the case Brown vs. the Board of
education. This case dealt with the right of a black child to attend an all white school close to her
home instead of being bussed across town to the all black school. Initially, the ruling was in favor of
the Board of Education, but the adverse effects of separate but equal schooling on the black
community were clearly shown (Schwartz, 2003). African Americans were also held back by not
having the right to vote. A literacy exam was required to be passed in order to vote. Because of their
schooling restrictions, many African Americans were illiterate, which denied them of the right to vote.
A workshop for the United Nations drew several community members and teachers from the south
(Horton, Freire, 1990). One member who attended

through contributions of the individual to the insurance company rather than through tax or

FINANCING: PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE

companies competing for the insured. These companies must get licensing and authorization from

insurance market.10 For people with low incomes, they use subsidies to finance their health insurance.
Specific premiums are based on what Mandatory Health Insurance (MHI) the person selects and

Human Genetic Engineering Essay
Genetic engineering is a practice commonly used in food to produce yields of superior size or quality.
Recently this technology has been tested on humans. The human race will now be able to improve
upon itself and their offspring. With this technology disease can be disposed of and normal people can
become better than average. Not all technology needs to be utilized. Genetic engineering that should
not be used in humans unless done to prevent or treat disease until it is fully understood since the
consequences are undetermined and potentially devastating. Human genetic engineering, HGE, is a

Preventing sickness is not wrong. The issue occurs when one tries to, as Sandel claims, reach beyond
health or above the norm ( The Case Against ). Pills and other devices have done this. For example,
David King, a professor at Harvard, recollects when human growth hormone was marketed towards
people with hormone deficiencies. Now it is prescribed to normal short children (39). Surgery was
also originally used for medical uses, but cosmetic surgery is now its own field. When HGE becomes
affordable and safe the public will find use.
Clapper explains germline changes the genes in eggs or sperm ( Human Genetic ). This will modify
any future children. Mitochondrial transfer, a form of germline engineering, is now possible allowing
for three genetically linked parents to a child. Wynne Parry, LiveScience contributor, describes that it
replaces faulty mitochondria with healthy ones from a third party ( Designing Life ) riding the child of
mitochondrial diseases from the mother due to old age during pregnancy.
Germline engineering will satisfy few people who have infertility and do not want to use other
methods. Parents can have the same bond between another being without conceiving a child. There is
adoption, but some do not do this since the child will not be genetically linked to them. Clapper
mentions that gamete and embryo donation, or pre implantation diagnosis and selection can be used (
Human Genetic ). The latter allows for both parents to be related

The A Snake Enters The Story
Genesis could be broken down into two sections: Chapters 1 11 (God the World) and 12 50 (God
Abraham s Family). What hinges the two parts together is contained in chapter 12, assisting us in
understanding the message as a whole and introducing to the rest of the bible.
Genesis 1 4:16: Here we begin where everything is darkness and disordered, however; God puts
everything into order, creating a world where life can thrive. He finally creates Adam and Eve (A E) in
His image, which He meant them to be reflections of His character. He appoints them as
representative to rule earth on His behalf. A E are given a choice with how they may proceed with
running the world, which are represented via the Tree of Life and of the Tree of Good and Evil. Shall
they trust God s definition of good and evil or shall they take autonomy and define good an evil for
themselves? In chapter three a snake enters the story, who represents rebellion against God. He
convinces A E to rebel by eating of the tree of good and evil, for they shall be like God. This tragic
because God had already created A E in His image. A E choose to increase the stakes by turning away
from God (Life Giver) and embracing death by eating of the forbidden fruit. Suddenly, things rapidly
change and A E realize they are naked, vulnerable and distrusting. So, they quickly fashion clothing to
hide their bodies; also, they hide themselves from God knowing they lost their relationship with Him.

The Role Of Women In Cinema
Cinema provides anthropomorphic stories for audiences to escape from their own realities and
immerse themselves in a fictional world where everything is controlled by the director, who structures
the film around a main controlling figure. The way that the cinema displays the space, surroundings,
and the human forms in the film allows the director of the film, like Hitchcock, to use camera
techniques that create an oppressive male gaze towards female characters in the movie. Most
mainstream films pay extra attention to how the human form is presented to the audience. Women in
film are continuously used solely as part of the landscape in films. The gaze the director focuses on
the female form turns them (females) into objects, whose appearance is used to deliver a strong visual
and erotic impact that provokes the male desire. I support Mulvey s argument that, woman as icon,
displayed for the gaze and enjoyment of men, the active controllers of the look, (Mulvey 28). Mulvey
is saying that film directors are using techniques, like camera angle or movement, to further enforce
the idea of a woman s body being a sexual object. The creation of an active male gaze in film is used
to derive pleasure from being able to look at an oversexualized female form tailored to the desires of
the men. Consequently, making the female no longer an actual living person, they are now just part of
the landscape of a bigger work of art. Therefore, reinforcing the societal standard representation of the
perfect and powerful ideal ego of the male character, and the image of the passive and powerless
female character. In his article Visual Drive and Cinematic Narrative: Reading Gaze Theory in Lacan,
Hitchcock, and Mulvey, Clifford Manlove reaffirms Mulvey s claim by stating that, Patriarchal
influence upon cinema is found primarily in pleasure ; that is to say, the pleasure in looking...
(Manlove 84). Manlove s point reinforces the scopophilia tendencies that Mulvey says are present in
films. Additionally, it also adds evidence to the claim that the cinema is influenced by the societal
norms surrounding everyday life.

Gap Between Literary Gothic and Pornography
As a society, we are confronted daily with pornographic images, they feature in our newspapers, on
our film screens, and even in our novels. This voyeuristic obsession the media holds has for a long
time been desensitizing us to depictions of violence and sex, but has it also disabled us in being able to
see the difference between what is carefully constructed satire and what is merely pornography? There
is probably no text this discussion embraces more in modern gothic literature than that of Brett Easton
Ellis American Psycho. The novel was surrounded with controversy, ecen before its publication in
1991. Originally, cited to be published by Simon Schuster, the company forfeited from the

stands alone within the book. These highly disturbing scenes of sexual violence against women
surpass that of pornography, this does not account the novel as being a particularly horrifying piece of
pornography, but instead it sets the novel from pornography completely.
In order to understand this, we must consider that not all of society receives pornography in such a
negative matter as so far discussed, for many people pornography is a private matter that is for the
purpose of arousal. Therefore in order for the gap between American Psycho and pornography to be
truly irrelevant, the text would have needed to be produced for the purpose of arousal. Although there
are some scenes that explicitly serve as seeming only pornographic, the level of the violence coupled

Zeena and Mattie Essay
In Edith Wharton s powerful work Ethan Frome, she introduces two leading female characters and
instantly creates a comparison of the two within the reader s eyes. This, not coincidentally, is the same
comparison the protagonist Ethan constantly faces and struggles with throughout the novel. On one
hand, Zenobia, commonly called Zeena, Frome has been a long standing part of Ethan s life. Years of
marriage, although not always happy, combined with her always declining health, cause Ethan to feel
indebted and sympathetic towards her. While, on the other, Mattie Silver, a relative of Zeena walks
into the life of the Frome s, and with her brings a new feeling of life and vitality to which Ethan has
never experienced before. Her appearance in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her feelings of isolation are only intensified by the apparent lack of emotion and affection she
receives from her husband Ethan, followed by the betrayal and pain accompanied with becoming
aware of Ethan s passion for Mattie as opposed to her. In another light, Mattie s feelings of loneliness
are less developed throughout the novel, but still heavily apparent. She is orphaned and practically
family less when she seeks refuge from her isolation in the ironically desolate Starkfield farm and mill
of the Frome s. Mattie becomes so completely consumed with the fear of losing this only source of
companionship, when Zeena appeals to have her essentially thrown out of their household that Mattie
resorts to the ideal that suicide would be better than having to return to a world of solitude. On the
surface, Mattie and Zeena appear to have little in common, but on the internal level these two share
more than most. Opposite from their similarities, the differences between the two women are very
apparent from the beginning of the novel. Early on in the novel Ethan is said to have all his life lived
in the sight and sound of Mattie Silver and her cherry coloured features (Wharton 21 27). She shows
constant signs, of warmth, vitality, and passion, a bold contrast to the bleak Starkfield. She remains in
good spirits throughout almost the entire novel, wishing to engage in simple and fun activites, such as
dancing and

Stormbreaker Compare And Contrast
A teenage spy going on deadly missions because of the death of a family member, this is the
beginning of two books titled Joshua Files by M.G Harris and Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz.
Both books have similarities between them, especially the main characters. In the book Joshua Files
there is a teenager named Joshua, his dad dies. In Stormbreaker the main character named Alex RIder,
is also a teenager and his uncle dies. An example is when Alex Rider was living his normal life with
his uncle and a friend named Jackie until he was told by the police that his uncle died. Driving home,
his car had been hit by a truck at Old Street roundabout and he had been killed almost instantly. (3)

Mental, Physical And Body Aspects
Human behavior has been analyzed over time, along with conditions that have been put into
perspective, about mental, physical and body aspects. These aspects of a human being are very
important for normal functioning of a person in society. When one s mental thought process is
affected, proper reasoning is not possible, and in turn the behavior becomes erratic. One such
condition that is directly connected to this mental situation is psychosis. Apart from affecting the
mental condition, it also affects the sensory and cognitive abilities.
Psychosis is defined as a disorder that causes one to have experiences that are out of touch with
reality. According to Von (2010), this is not a disease, but just a clear symptom of a mental illness.
Psychotic people have a tendency to have untrue thoughts, or are deluded and they have
hallucinations. Von (2010) goes on to explain that these symptoms are uniquely divided into positive
and negative results. Different psychotic disorders are categorized on the basis of the duration,
bizarreness of the delusions and the intensity of mania or depression. Non affective psychosis tends to
have negative symptoms, longer duration and bizarre delusions, while affective psychosis has fewer
negative symptoms that are related to bipolar disorder (Von, 2010).
A mental health professional can only recognize psychosis in a client by observing major changes in
their behavior. These changes are such as the abrupt loss of interest in activities that one

Difference Between Stockholder And Stakeholders
Chapter 11
1. What is the difference between stockholder and stakeholders to a company
A company s stakeholders are individuals or groups with an interest, claim, or stake in the company, in
what it does, and in how well it performs. They include stockholders, creditors, employee customers,
the communities in which the company does business, and the general public.
A company s stockholders are usually put in a different class from other stakeholder groups, and for
good reason. Stockholders are legal owners and the providers of risk capital, a major source of the
capital resources that allow a company to operate its business. The capital that stockholders provide to
a company is seen as risk capital because there is no guarantee that stockholders will ever recoup their
investment and/or earn a decent return.
2. How ethics in any business responds to stakeholders concerns
The ethical issues that strategic managers confront cover many topics, but most are due to a potential
conflict between the goals of the enterprise, or the goals of individual managers, and the fundamental
rights of important stakeholders, including stockholders, customers, employees, suppliers,
competitors, communities, and the general public. Stakeholders have basic rights that should be
respected, and it is unethical to violate those rights.
Stockholders have the right to timely and accurate information about their investment and it is
unethical to violate that right. Customers have the right to be

Confucianism Research Project Confucianism has easily been influential in the development of the

Furthermore, the Marxist revolutionary government of Communist China dealt with Confucianism
negatively. In the early 20th century, both before and after the fall of the Qing dynasty, Confucianism
was harshly criticized by the New Culture Movement. (Adler 6) The assumption of this movement
was that virtually everything about China s traditional culture was holding it back from becoming a
modern nation state. In fact, Confucianism was high on the list of culprits in this blanket rejection of
traditional China. The New Culture Movement criticized Confucianism for its age and gender based
hierarchies, which had become quite rigid during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Communist thinkers
also joined this anti Confucian trend, so by the time of the Communist victory in 1949 Confucianism
in mainland China seemed virtually dead. (Adler 7) After the Communists took power their anti
Confucian rhetoric only increased. In addition to their professed opposition to social hierarchies, they
viewed Confucianism as a feudal ideology. (Adler 8) Daniel Bell s proposal is in response to Jiang

Changes In The Endocrine System
The endocrine system is made up of organs and tissues that produce hormones. Hormones are natural
chemicals produced in one place, secreted into the bloodstream and then used by other organs and
target systems. Hormones control the target organs. Some organic systems have their own internal
control systems in place of the hormones or together with them.
As we get older, natural changes occur in the way in which body systems are controlled. Some target
tissues become less sensitive to the hormone that controls them. The amount of hormones produced
can also change. The blood levels of some hormones increase, those of others decrease and those of
some others remain unchanged. Hormones also break down (metabolize) more slowly. Many of the
organs that produce hormones are controlled by other hormones. ... Show more content on

This region produces hormones that control other structures in the endocrine system. The amount of
these regulatory hormones remains almost the same, but the response from the endocrine organs can

maximum size when people reach middle age and then gradually becomes smaller.
The thyroid gland is located in the neck. This gland produces the hormones that help control the
metabolism. With age, said gland can become protruding (nodular). The metabolism decreases with
time, beginning around 20 years of age. Because thyroid hormones are produced and broken down

Beyond the shield of civilization and into the depths of a primitive, untamed frontier lies the true face

The Keiserschlacht or Emperor s Battle
In 1914, General Erich Ludendorff, Germany s key commander in World War I, along with General
Paul von Hindenburg, strategically placed the German Army in a series of three 25 mile trenches in
central France. This new position gave the German s a false sense of security, which led them to
believe that they would win World War I. At first, the onslaught and brute force of the offensive
proved itself well. The Kaiserschlacht, or Emperor s Battle, quickly turned around due to lack of
supplies and heavy casualties. Since the Central Powers were becoming more confident, they made
more mistakes and thus began losing battles and eventually the war. Greater numbers and strength of
the Allied Powers ultimately led to the slaughter and defeat of the Germans under Generals
Ludendorff and Hindenburg. Germany had the chance to end the war before the resources from the
United States could be deployed into France and Britain. In an advantage by numbers, fearless leader
Ludendorff set off to gain land for Germany and defeat the Allied powers once and for all. The
Germans knew that they had to conquer Europe before the Americans could train soldiers and ship
men and supplies to the front lines. The addition of Americans to the Allied Powers would
significantly impact the outcome of the war. Germany still believed that they could win the war.
German hope was increased when Russia withdrew from the war in 1917. Ludendorff, a former chief
of staff under General Hindenburg, was a

During the last clinical rotation of my adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner graduate

frequently became exasperated when residents would present new consults and focus solely on

nursing through my own fellowship experience. Just as I have done as a student and nurse, I hope to
participate and lead initiatives such as ground rounds, journal club, quality improvement projects, and
evidence based practice change.
Evidence based practice is classically defined as the integration of best research evidence with clinical
expertise to facilitate clinical decision making. I believe the phrase, This is how we have always done

or inconclusive research. Healthcare delivery in the critical care setting requires thoughtfulness and
deliberate action. I learned this lesson during rounds as the AG AGNP of the mixed medical/surgical
ICU at Massachusetts General Hospital. While quickly reviewing the patient s systems I mentioned
the MAP goal of 65. The attending politely interrupted and asked why? My mind raced for an answer
and I began to explain our goals for perfusion. While he assured me I was not incorrect, he helped
provide insight on the risk of arbitrary values. I later developed a more thoughtful perfusion goal
tailored to the individual patient.

Antisocial Personality Theory vs. Social Structure Theory...
Criminology is the scientific study of knowledge in which crime is considered as a social happening.
The study of Criminology includes the ways and methods of breaking laws, making laws and
social/media/cultural reactions of the society to crime. There have been many theories as to why
people commit crime, no one can decide on just one theory to explain this. Two popular theories as to
why people commit crime are antisocial personality theory and social structure theory. The aspects
behind these theories make the most reliable sense as to why people commit the crimes that they do.

It is stated that psychopaths are thrill seekers that engage in high risk antisocial behavior just to raise
their neurological arousal level.
Psychopaths possibly have brain abnormalities which cause them to process emotions much
differently than someone that is not a psychopath. With considering these personality traits, it is not
shocking that researchers have shown that people diagnosed as a psychopath are more likely to engage
in criminal and also violent behavior compared to people consider non psychopathic. It is known that
psychopaths keep going on with their criminal careers long after others have aged out of their criminal
behavior. Psychopaths are continuously in trouble and are more likely to end up in the penal
institutions. Once these prisoners are released, they are three times more likely to re offend in a year
and four more times likely to re offend violently, compared to non psychopaths.
Antisocial personality disorder is highly unresponsive to any form of treatment, main reason why is
because people that have ASPD rarely ever seek treatment on their own. If an individual does decide
to seek help, it is usually to find a relief from their depression or emotional distress. Although there
are medications that are effective in treating some of the symptoms of the disorder, noncompliance
with medication regimens or abuse of the drugs prevents the widespread use of these medications. (

Ancient Egypt revolved around the belief that one was reborn after death and would be guaranteed

For many years the condition of the United States health care system has been a hot topic for debate.
Some would like to believe that the U.S has the best health care system in the world, but unfortunately
that may not be the truth. In 2000 The World Health Organization (WHO) released a world health

On March 23, 2010 congress approved and President Obama signed The Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act (PPACA) into law. The PPACA is more commonly known as just the Affordable
Care Act (ACA) or negatively as Obamacare. In order for the ACA to be passed, the President had to
appease the different political parties. As a result, the ACA is not entirely an original idea. Some of the
main provisions already had the support of various political parties, because they had been introduced
by past presidents and political parties in their health reform plans over the past few decades. Some
examples include: both Nixon and Carter had employer mandates; Bush had a version of the
individual mandate, both Bush and Clinton proposed similar ideas to the insurance marketplace,
among a few others. The ACA is similar to universal health care; the objective is to ensure that the US
citizens have access to affordable quality healthcare, instead of a free market for all like in other
countries it is still for profit. The Affordable Care Act increases access to care, makes health insurance

Investigation of the Thermal Decomposition of Copper...
Investigation of the Thermal Decomposition of Copper Carbonate
Aim:
Copper has two oxides, Cu2O, and CuO. Copper carbonate, CuCO3 decomposes on heating to form
one of these oxides and an equation can be written for each possible reaction
Equation 1: 2CuCO3 (s) Cu2O (s) + 2CO2 (g) + O2 (g)
Equation 2: CuCO3 (s) CuO (s) + CO2 (g)
The aim of this experiment is to prove which equation is correct. This can be done by volumetric
analysis i.e. calculating the volume of gas produced. This is then compared to the calculated volume
of gas produced in each equation and the equation with the nearest volume of gas is correct.
This is a thermal decomposition reaction and when an element like copper can form two oxides, which
one forms is based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also not sufficient to simply consider the stability of a compound with respect to its elements. It is
necessary to consider the stability of copper
(I) oxide with respect to copper (II) oxide, as well as with respect to copper and oxygen.
It would also be important to consider the stability of CuCO3 with respect to both oxides, to see which
reaction is energetically most likely. So it is clear that the value of Î Hf suggests that Cu2O will be
formed, but that this will not necessarily be the case because of the other factors involved.
Copper (II) compounds are by far the most common they are called
cupric . Copper (I) compounds cuprous compounds are far less common. Copper atoms most readily
go to oxidation state +2, by a variety of reactions. Cupric compounds are unstable in the presence of
water, so must either be insoluble or form complexes with other molecules. The equations are written
in moles and through my background knowledge
I now know the definition of a mole, 1mole of any substance contains the same number of particles as
12g of carbon 12. 1 mole of any element contains 6.01 x 1023 atoms. 1 mole of a molecular
compound contains 6.01 x 1023 molecules.
This means that in a reaction in which 2 molecules of one substance react with 1 molecule of another
for instance the formation of water: 2H2 + O2 2H2O, 2 moles of hydrogen molecules will react with
1 mole of oxygen molecules to give 2 moles of water molecules. For an element, the mass

Literacy Vs. Low Literacy Essay
Literacy Connections (LC) was founded in 1975 as Literacy Volunteers of America Dutchess County,
Inc. The agency changed its name to Literacy Connections in 2005. Literacy Connections is a private,
not for profit, 501(C) (3) organization committed to helping adults and families become functionally
literate. The organization works with the lowest literacy level adults in Dutchess, Columbia, and
Greene Counties.
Our core program is to help adults to learn to read and write, and function independently by recruiting
and training volunteers to provide one to one and small group tutoring that is student centered. Student
centered means not following a pre determined curriculum, and giving a voice to the student with
regard to their learning goals. Teaching adults is not the same as teaching children. Materials must be
sensitive and respectful of adult learners, and because adults face so many challenges in their daily
lives, the learning must be relevant and meaningful. Recognizing that illiteracy/low literacy is a family
issue, our Adult Family Literacy Program also offers reading enrichment to children who are
struggling with reading in the 2nd 4th grades the crucial time when children are transitioning from
learning to read to reading to learn.
MISSION STATEMENT Literacy Connections is dedicated to developing and offering programs and
services to support a literate society. We recruit and train volunteers to provide no cost student
centered tutoring

Batman Year One
Kasie Olds
Analysis Paper #1
January 25, 2013
Introduction to Research Writing
Batman: Year One is about Bruce Wayne s beginning as becoming Batman. In the beginning of the
comic book, Bruce has always known violence all of his life since he was a child. In the very
beginning of the comic book, he witnessed a brutal cold violent act, his parents death that happened in
front of his very eyes (21). That is one of the biggest contributing factors of who he is today as Bruce
Wayne/Batman. As stated on pages 18 and 19, we see the first myth of Crime Does Not Pay (Carlson,
Myths of Violence Discussion). The actions that are played into these pages are part of an injustice
that is played upon Gotham City by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the comic, there is a criminal counterpart that leaves Batman worried about his past because of the
fact that he saw his parents get murder and that s why that made him be abroad for so long. This evil
counterpart that Batman knows gives him the nervousness that makes all of his memories goes back to
that tragic night. In the conclusion of Batman: Year One, James Gordon sees a motorcycle entering the
parking garage of where he lives and he becomes very suspicious of who this random person on the
motorcycle is. It is later decided that a few scenes, the mystery man on the motorcycle is in fact Bruce
Wayne/Batman and he is chasing an antagonist by the name of Vitti who is trying to escape from
Batman. Vitti is running off with a baby and wants to throw the baby over the side of the bridge but
then when Batman finds out that Vitti is going to do that, he comes to the rescue and saves the baby.
James Gordon, who again is Batman s partner, realizes that he is standing in front of Batman who is
unmasked but since he does not have his glasses on, Gordon cannot see exactly who is in front of him.
While Bruce Wayne is leaving at the end of the scenes of the comic, he meets back up with Gordon to
discuss The Joker who is planning on poisoning the main reservoir in Gotham City (Miller,
Mazzucchelli, pg. 90 96). In conclusion of the whole paper, the reader gets the gist

The Pros And Cons Of Friendship
Imagine this: you are feeling down because you have an issue with your family and you need someone
to talk to but there is nobody. The problem will get worse and worse, generating more sadness and self
hate. This is the scenario of a person who does not have a true friend to talk with. Friendship has a big
impact on the well being of a teenager. In this essay, I will discuss the positives and negatives of a
teenage friendship.
1)
A friendship is a type of relationship with a person peer or more there is no limit. A true friendship has
full support and trusts each other with any problems or ideas. Most of all you spend the most of your
time with friends than other things as you with people for everything in your whole life. Friendship
may give you good and bad times. But all friends are something you can easily talk to about the issues
in life, For example family problems or ask for help with school work like everyone needs help with
something. A true friendship needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes it may take a long time to realize if they were being real or fake as every person changes
as time goes by. A good sign of positive right true friendship is when a friend respects you with your
ideas and accepts your thoughts while you talk to them in a positive truthful way. Another one is a
negative bad friendship which is a friend that wants you to stay with them forever, never lets you mix
you with people as the friend thinks they own you and you all theirs. This is usually when they care
about you, which is a good thing, but everyone can t only keep only one friend in their life as they
need a variety of friends for different things in life. Some friends are always happy and share you
equal with other people never have any problems with who you are with while they treat you the same
way as they do to others with full kindness and

Americans Should Vote To Vote Essay
A strong democratic government rest on citizens exercising their power of voting. Even though in
many countries including United States, entitled voters don t vote during Presidential Elections. This
paper will explain that Federal Voting should be mandatory in United States. Many people in United
States try their best to stay away from political affairs not realizing the importance politics. Voting is
one of the most common ways to get involved in politics. Firstly this paper will state the main
problems for the non voters. Moving forward, why it is necessary and important to vote? And lastly
the outcomes if people doesn t voted. Votes determine who will be responsible in considering laws and

But on the dark side, the 37th president of united states Richard Nixon said, When President does it
that means it s not illegal. (Shocking Presidential). The quote clearly illustrate the evilness. If normal
people with common sense didn t voted, untaught people who doesn t know irony, might choose a
leader ironically talking, Let s make America great again, and outcomes can easily be predicted. The
candidates are humans too and mistakes are natural, but this is about a best nation in the world
therefore not a robot but at least a great leader should be elected. In short, fifty percent of population
can be inaccuracy not the hundred percent.
At last, its 21st Century Democracy in United States, that is why nothing but a general view for
mandatory voting has nothing to do with today s politics. It s almost signifying the central promise of
American citizenship. Generally saying, let s eat the cake for which many generation marched, fought
and died. As discussed in the paper, everyone have their own problems but giving a few minutes to
vote can solve this problems for future generations. Making federal voting mandatory will bring a big
change in the way the candidates offer beneficial speeches. And this will make America

How Is Brady Presented In Inherit The Wind
In Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee s Inherit the Wind, Matthew Harrison Brady and Henry
Drummond tolerate each other when they see the bigger picture. Inherit the wind tells the story of
Tennessee school teacher Bertram Cates, who is on trial for violating the Butler Act, a state law that
prohibits public school teachers from teaching evolution instead of creationism. Matthew Harrison
Brady, a prominent politician, lawyer, and three time presidential leader, Joins the district attorney in
the prosecution of Ben Cates. Brady is a very popular person among the people of Hillsboro because
of his support of their religious beliefs and ideologies. He has also been called The Great Commoner
because of his exceptional ability to connect and speak to the common American. After Brady has
arrived in town for the trial, E.K. Hornbeck, Reporter for the Baltimore Herald, reveals that Henry

Drummond responds, you smart aleck! You have no more right to spit on his religion than you have a

Drummond says, Why? Because I refuse to erase a man s lifetime? I tell you Brady had the same right
as Cates: the right to be wrong (Lawrence Lee 127)! These statements show that Drummond not only

The Importance of itrogen in the Growth and Development of...
Nitrogen is the most important nutrient required for growth and development of plants. Earth s
atmosphere contains about 78% nitrogen gas but majority of this remains unavailable to the plants. An
important feature of our planet ecosystem is the nitrogen cycle, by which nitrogen is converted into
different several other forms. The process of conversion involves both biological and non biological
processes. Nitrogen cycle consists of nitrogen fixation, assimilation, mineralization, nitrification and
denitrification (Postgate 1998). The process of conversion of molecular nitrogen to ammonia is known
as nitrogen fixation.
Biological nitrogen fixation is the mechanism of reduction of atmospheric nitrogen to a metabolically
active form exclusively by microorganisms. Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) involves the
enzymatic reduction of N2 to ammonia (NH3 ). Conversion of N2 to ammonia is catalyzed by a
metalloenzyme called nitrogenase. Reaction has a high activation energy because molecular N2 is an
unreactive gas with a triple bond between the two N2 atoms. Therefore, N2 reduction requires at least
8 electrons and 16 ATP moles, 4 ATPs per pair of electrons.
N2 + 8H+ + 8e¯ + 16 ATP = 2NH3 + H2 + 16 ADP + 16 P
Three genetically distinct nitrogenase systems have been found in diazotrophs, namely Nif, Vnf and
Anf in which the active site central metals are Mo, V, and Fe, respectively (Zhao et al 2006). The
enzyme contains two components that are named according to their metal

Causes Of Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome
In February of 2016 I was diagnosed with amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome (AMPs) by Dr.
Bentley at Children s Specialized Hospital. I was only diagnosed when I was 14 years old but I
learned that it had caused me many years of pain, I just didn t know what it was and figured it was
normal. Little did I know that it was not normal to constantly be feeling pins and needles all over my
skin all day or to not want to hug people because it hurt, or not want to go to school because it just
hurt so bad. The pain started to escalate after a surgery in November of 2015. I had just gotten a
surgery on my foot because I had broken a bone, and no matter what narcotic they put me on I

The answer is yes. I had been told by other people in the program that the middle of the second week

and I didn t want to be touched. I got myself so worked up that I threw up multiple times. People were
running in and out of the room trying to calm me down and figure out a way to make me feel better.
My mom was downstairs in a meeting with some of my caretakers at the hospital, but she was not
allowed to come up and comfort me. I had to take care of this on my own. A psychologist came

Nick Price, the Group s Chief Information Officer who outlines in this quote, what the hospitality
industry is about
The hospitality industry is about people being hospitable and giving a great experience at each hotel.
If a frequent guest at one hotel was going to another hotel, someone at the first hotel would call that
hotel and let them know about the guest before he walked in the door. Doing this consistently well as a
global brand is challenging. (Mullich, 2011, online). The Bloomberg Businessweek Research Study
(2009, online) shows that only one in five C level executives reported that the use of business
analytics is integrated across their entire organisation. Also more than three quarters of the responding
executives cited variable data quality, integrity, and consistency as an obstacle to the organisation wide

Analysis Of The Movie I Chose Silver Linings Playbook
The analysis of the movie I chose was Silver Linings Playbook. This movie was a revamping of the
publication Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick. Patrick, known as Pat throughout the movie,
Solatano, Jr. is portrayed by Bradley Cooper. Although it is unclear what is different about Pat in the
very beginning, the story soon unravels his skeletons in the closet. The opening scene starts as Pat is
being released from the Karel psychiatric facility in Baltimore. Pat was institutionalized after he
walked in on his wife and the history teacher having an affair in the shower, blacked out, and beat the
man nearly to death. He is ordered to attend therapy as part of his plea bargain and release deal. Even
though medication is almost required to treat his condition, Pat decides it is better to change his
outlook on life and find the silver linings, he even shouts his motto excelsior meaning always upward
(Excelsior dictionary definition). To me this meant, finding the positive in every negative situation.
However, even though it sounds good on the surface, it can also be used as a crutch to fuel self
delusion. Pat ends up being set up on a dinner date in order to get over the fact that his wife has since
moved. After the dinner date, Pat finds himself spending much time with Tiffany, another main
character with a mental illness, who he enters a dance competition with and ends up falling for. This
analysis will cover the symptoms/diagnosis, nature versus nurture,

Cave Paintings Essay
Creating art is one of the single defining factors that set humans apart from animal species. Through
art, humans are able to express their innermost ideas and feelings, without having the difficulty of
trying to find the correct words to accurately describe their thought processes. Works of art can help us
to understand the people who have come before us. This is evidenced by the knowledge humans have
discovered of prehistoric men and their symbolic cave paintings. The expression, style, and meaning
vary and archaeologists put in much effort to uncover these works. The first evidence of cave art
appeared in Western Europe (Berenguer 67). Early cave paintings were characteristic of Western art.
They were supported by an acute vision, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is often found to be extremely animalistic. The animals most commonly depicted are horses, deer,
reindeer, bison, ipex, aurochs, woolly rhinoceroses, and mammoths. Sometimes lions and bears are
also created, but rarely fish or birds. Humans were also commonly represented (Berenguer 73).
Prehistoric men also created abstract designs that have proven hard to identify. They are referred to as
signs and a special nomenclature has been developed to better understand their meaning. Tectiforms
are generally quadrangular shapes, with crossing vertical lines inside forming a trellis or mesh design.
Tectiforms often appear near naturalistic figures of animals. Scutiforms have been thought to represent
the female vulva. They are formed by red patches, often in the form of a comma or a key. Other types
of signs are penniforms, ramiforms, and claviforms. The exact meanings of most of these signs remain
unknown (Berenguer 82). The French scholar Leroi Gourhan formed a theory regarding the
animalistic and abstract art representations. He believed all depictions revolved around the law of sex,
noting that the philosophy of the prehistoric men concentrated all explanations on sex and sexual
relations. Cave art depictions of animals are divided into male and female. The male animals are
horses, she goats, and deer. Bison, bovidae, and mammoths are female. The signs are also divided into
gender categories. Triangles, rectangles, ramiforms, tectiforms, and scutiforms are

  • 2. Essay on Hardships on Cold Mountain Hardships on Cold Mountain The events one goes through in his or her life often shapes the person he or she becomes. The challenges faced early in life work to strengthen one s personality and enable them to live and flourish. In the novel Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier the reader learns about the many obstacles Ruby has had to face while growing up. These hardships added to the person that she became and made her strong enough to face the obstacles that come later in life. In being faced with many obstacles in life Ruby was able to learn from them, become a stronger person and therefore survive. Because of her lack of love and parenting, Ruby was forced to mature and learn how to survive at unimaginably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without the presence of her father most of the time Ruby had to learn to survive on her own. While Stobrod would leave her for day or weeks at a times Ruby had to foraged for wild food. Grubbed for roots, caught fish on traps she twisted together out of willow boughs. Ruby was forced too mature quickly in order to survive with these problems. Other than the lack of a father Ruby also had to overcome external hardships, living in conditions less than adequate: They lived in a dirt cabin, little better than a roofed pen. She had slept on a kind of miniature loft platform, just a shelf, really. Ruby awoke many a morning with an inch of snow atop her pile of quilts, because there was no ceiling. (Pg. 105) It is apparent that Ruby was not given the life of luxury that Ada had, and was put in a situation where she either had to learn to live, or die. Ruby used these hardships in her early life to succeed later on. The survival skills Ruby was forced to learn as a child to survive, helped support her and Ada while staying with Ada. When Ruby first meets Ada, she realizes that Ada is in the same situation she was as a child. Ada is alone in the world, and does not even have the drive the Ruby had to survive. Ruby uses the knowledge she has gained through her life to teach Ada what she needs to know to survive and flourish. Although Ruby could just as easily have done the work and let Ada be she goes out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 2012, President Obama signed into law a drastic Corporate Average Fuel Economy (C.A.F.E.) standard whereas all new passenger cars and trucks must increase fuel economy to 54.5 miles per gallon (MPG) by 2025. This new law touts that it will save American consumers more than $8,000 in gas over the life of the vehicle, reduce oil consumption by 2 million barrels of oil per day, and cut harmful greenhouse gases by 6 billion metric tons over the life of the program (The White House). On the surface, these statistics appear to benefit both the consumer, and the earth. • 5. Literary Elements In Bird By Bird Writing, as described by E.L. Doctorow, is an exploration. In her novel, Bird by Bird, Anne Lamott explores the writing process, providing her insight on stylistic, theoretical, and instructional points. These points are essential in the composure of a book and are prevalent in many literary works such as Tim O Brien s The Things they Carried. In his book, O Brien relives his time on the frontlines of the Vietnam War, telling fictional stories of life before, during, and post war. The novels are tied together with O Brien s use of character development, dialogue, and design setting strategies as discussed in Bird by Bird. These three accounting professions may seem the same but I will be explaining how they are different. I will discuss all of these details in my report. The Media s Negative Portrayal of African American Males They squirmed, pencils tapping their desks anxiously; none of their papers contained more than five names. Eventually, all thirteen pairs of eyes made their way from the papers, to the faces of their friends, and eventually, they restlessly shifted over to me and stopped. This is hard, whined one seventh grade voice. Another chimed in, It s all the same, I can t think of any more. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And just as the reign of these tyrants appears be coming to an end, another barrier to equality is appearing on the horizon: the media. In my experience, TV in general is doing a huge disservice to any hopes of future racial parity by its extremely unfair portrayal of the young African American male. These young men are literally only shown on TV as sports stars, in the very best cases, and unfortunately most commonly seen as jewel adorned rappers, spewing obscenities, making offensive gestures at the camera, hustling around scantily clad young women as if they are simply commodities, and rapping about having sex and smoking weed. Honestly, in the past few months I have yet to see a young African American male portrayed as thoughtful, analytical, poetic, artistic, or even, sadly enough, remotely intelligent or mature. This might be acceptable if the case was such, but my experience alone proves otherwise. I know plenty of young African American males who are mature beyond their years, and extremely academically inclined. However, for reasons unbeknownst to me, the media industry is either stuck on typecasting these men or deliberately choosing to represent them only as non intellectual people. This is an outrage because inherently it does not allow young African American males to even entertain the idea that they can and should rise above the image of themselves with which they are barraged every day. Slaughter is a very successful women who had worked for Hillary Clinton at the state department being the first woman policy planner. She begins the essay by explaining a conversation that came up between herself and a colleague who held a senior position in the White House. This reason could eventually lead to women either being stressed because they don t have enough time to fulfill their needs at work and home, and also could eventually lead to a decision against having children altogether. It s easy to understand how this can be a very difficult problem for most women to get around. Even if they find a very successful job, it s much more challenging for them to be a good mom while also doing their overall best in their profession. I thought Slaughter shared a very interesting quote halfway through her article to help sum up her thoughts from Mary Matalin, (a lady who resigned after only two years in order to spend more time with her children.) Matalin says, having control of your schedule is the only way that women who want a career and a family can make it work. Quote from The Atlantic. In the article Why Men Still Can t Have It All, by Richard Dorment, a senior writer and editor in esquire magazine, Dorment responds to Slaughter s article by claiming men face the same problem as women do. • 11. Social And Cultural Events In The 20th And 21st Century Education has been affected greatly by social and cultural events of the 20th and 21st centuries. Because education follows the moves of society, the need for new skills in life and in the workplace change and students can be career and college ready. This, however, has not always been the case. The first of two main cultural and social events focused on are the events that led up to the Brown vs. the Board of Education Supreme Court case, which resulted in the desegregation of schools. The second are the effects that the Great Recession had on the education system. In the 1940s the Civil Rights Movement began gaining strength and the country began moving slowly to desegregation. In 1947, in the face of much opposition, Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player. When he traveled to the south he was denied access into hotels, restaurants, and other venues because of this race. Because Robinson was in the army the armed forces became desegregated in 1948 and eventually led to the elimination of segregated schools (Schwartz, 2003). During this era African American students were in separate but equal schools although many black schools suffered from poor facilities and a lack of funding and other amenities that were provided at white schools. Black students were often bussed great distances to attend school. In 1952, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) lawyers represented the case Brown vs. the Board of education. This case dealt with the right of a black child to attend an all white school close to her home instead of being bussed across town to the all black school. Initially, the ruling was in favor of the Board of Education, but the adverse effects of separate but equal schooling on the black community were clearly shown (Schwartz, 2003). African Americans were also held back by not having the right to vote. A literacy exam was required to be passed in order to vote. Because of their schooling restrictions, many African Americans were illiterate, which denied them of the right to vote. A workshop for the United Nations drew several community members and teachers from the south (Horton, Freire, 1990). One member who attended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pills and other devices have done this. For example, David King, a professor at Harvard, recollects when human growth hormone was marketed towards people with hormone deficiencies. Now it is prescribed to normal short children (39). Surgery was also originally used for medical uses, but cosmetic surgery is now its own field. Genesis 1 4:16: Here we begin where everything is darkness and disordered, however; God puts everything into order, creating a world where life can thrive. He finally creates Adam and Eve (A E) in His image, which He meant them to be reflections of His character. He appoints them as representative to rule earth on His behalf. A E are given a choice with how they may proceed with running the world, which are represented via the Tree of Life and of the Tree of Good and Evil. Shall they trust God s definition of good and evil or shall they take autonomy and define good an evil for themselves? In chapter three a snake enters the story, who represents rebellion against God. He convinces A E to rebel by eating of the tree of good and evil, for they shall be like God. This tragic because God had already created A E in His image. A E choose to increase the stakes by turning away from God (Life Giver) and embracing death by eating of the forbidden fruit. Suddenly, things rapidly change and A E realize they are naked, vulnerable and distrusting. So, they quickly fashion clothing to hide their bodies; also, they hide themselves from God knowing they lost their relationship with Him. Once God seeks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Role Of Women In Cinema Cinema provides anthropomorphic stories for audiences to escape from their own realities and immerse themselves in a fictional world where everything is controlled by the director, who structures the film around a main controlling figure. The way that the cinema displays the space, surroundings, and the human forms in the film allows the director of the film, like Hitchcock, to use camera techniques that create an oppressive male gaze towards female characters in the movie. Most mainstream films pay extra attention to how the human form is presented to the audience. Women in film are continuously used solely as part of the landscape in films. The gaze the director focuses on the female form turns them (females) into objects, whose appearance is used to deliver a strong visual and erotic impact that provokes the male desire. I support Mulvey s argument that, woman as icon, displayed for the gaze and enjoyment of men, the active controllers of the look, (Mulvey 28). Mulvey is saying that film directors are using techniques, like camera angle or movement, to further enforce the idea of a woman s body being a sexual object. The creation of an active male gaze in film is used to derive pleasure from being able to look at an oversexualized female form tailored to the desires of the men. Consequently, making the female no longer an actual living person, they are now just part of the landscape of a bigger work of art. Therefore, reinforcing the societal standard representation of the perfect and powerful ideal ego of the male character, and the image of the passive and powerless female character. In his article Visual Drive and Cinematic Narrative: Reading Gaze Theory in Lacan, Hitchcock, and Mulvey, Clifford Manlove reaffirms Mulvey s claim by stating that, Patriarchal influence upon cinema is found primarily in pleasure ; that is to say, the pleasure in looking... (Manlove 84). Manlove s point reinforces the scopophilia tendencies that Mulvey says are present in films. Additionally, it also adds evidence to the claim that the cinema is influenced by the societal norms surrounding everyday life. She is orphaned and practically family less when she seeks refuge from her isolation in the ironically desolate Starkfield farm and mill of the Frome s. Mattie becomes so completely consumed with the fear of losing this only source of companionship, when Zeena appeals to have her essentially thrown out of their household that Mattie resorts to the ideal that suicide would be better than having to return to a world of solitude. On the surface, Mattie and Zeena appear to have little in common, but on the internal level these two share more than most. These aspects of a human being are very important for normal functioning of a person in society. When one s mental thought process is affected, proper reasoning is not possible, and in turn the behavior becomes erratic. One such condition that is directly connected to this mental situation is psychosis. Apart from affecting the mental condition, it also affects the sensory and cognitive abilities. Psychosis is defined as a disorder that causes one to have experiences that are out of touch with reality. According to Von (2010), this is not a disease, but just a clear symptom of a mental illness. Psychotic people have a tendency to have untrue thoughts, or are deluded and they have hallucinations. Von (2010) goes on to explain that these symptoms are uniquely divided into positive and negative results. Different psychotic disorders are categorized on the basis of the duration, bizarreness of the delusions and the intensity of mania or depression. Non affective psychosis tends to have negative symptoms, longer duration and bizarre delusions, while affective psychosis has fewer negative symptoms that are related to bipolar disorder (Von, 2010). They include stockholders, creditors, employee customers, the communities in which the company does business, and the general public. A company s stockholders are usually put in a different class from other stakeholder groups, and for good reason. Stockholders are legal owners and the providers of risk capital, a major source of the capital resources that allow a company to operate its business. The capital that stockholders provide to a company is seen as risk capital because there is no guarantee that stockholders will ever recoup their investment and/or earn a decent return. 2. Just as I have done as a student and nurse, I hope to participate and lead initiatives such as ground rounds, journal club, quality improvement projects, and evidence based practice change. Evidence based practice is classically defined as the integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise to facilitate clinical decision making. I believe the phrase, This is how we have always done it has no place in patient care. Previously our best practices were based on evidence from incomplete or inconclusive research. Healthcare delivery in the critical care setting requires thoughtfulness and deliberate action. I learned this lesson during rounds as the AG AGNP of the mixed medical/surgical ICU at Massachusetts General Hospital. While quickly reviewing the patient s systems I mentioned the MAP goal of 65. The attending politely interrupted and asked why? My mind raced for an answer and I began to explain our goals for perfusion. • 34. Antisocial Personality Theory vs. Social Structure Theory... Criminology is the scientific study of knowledge in which crime is considered as a social happening. The study of Criminology includes the ways and methods of breaking laws, making laws and social/media/cultural reactions of the society to crime. There have been many theories as to why people commit crime, no one can decide on just one theory to explain this. Two popular theories as to why people commit crime are antisocial personality theory and social structure theory. The aspects behind these theories make the most reliable sense as to why people commit the crimes that they do. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is stated that psychopaths are thrill seekers that engage in high risk antisocial behavior just to raise their neurological arousal level. Psychopaths possibly have brain abnormalities which cause them to process emotions much differently than someone that is not a psychopath. With considering these personality traits, it is not shocking that researchers have shown that people diagnosed as a psychopath are more likely to engage in criminal and also violent behavior compared to people consider non psychopathic. It is known that psychopaths keep going on with their criminal careers long after others have aged out of their criminal behavior. Psychopaths are continuously in trouble and are more likely to end up in the penal institutions. Once these prisoners are released, they are three times more likely to re offend in a year and four more times likely to re offend violently, compared to non psychopaths. Antisocial personality disorder is highly unresponsive to any form of treatment, main reason why is because people that have ASPD rarely ever seek treatment on their own. If an individual does decide to seek help, it is usually to find a relief from their depression or emotional distress. Although there are medications that are effective in treating some of the symptoms of the disorder, noncompliance with medication regimens or abuse of the drugs prevents the widespread use of these medications. Some would like to believe that the U.S has the best health care system in the world, but unfortunately that may not be the truth. It is also not sufficient to simply consider the stability of a compound with respect to its elements. It is necessary to consider the stability of copper (I) oxide with respect to copper (II) oxide, as well as with respect to copper and oxygen. It would also be important to consider the stability of CuCO3 with respect to both oxides, to see which reaction is energetically most likely. So it is clear that the value of Î Hf suggests that Cu2O will be formed, but that this will not necessarily be the case because of the other factors involved. Copper (II) compounds are by far the most common they are called cupric . Copper (I) compounds cuprous compounds are far less common. Copper atoms most readily go to oxidation state +2, by a variety of reactions. Cupric compounds are unstable in the presence of water, so must either be insoluble or form complexes with other molecules. The equations are written in moles and through my background knowledge I now know the definition of a mole, 1mole of any substance contains the same number of particles as 12g of carbon 12. 1 mole of any element contains 6.01 x 1023 atoms. 1 mole of a molecular compound contains 6.01 x 1023 molecules. This means that in a reaction in which 2 molecules of one substance react with 1 molecule of another for instance the formation of water: 2H2 + O2 2H2O, 2 moles of hydrogen molecules will react with 1 mole of oxygen molecules to give 2 moles of water molecules. The agency changed its name to Literacy Connections in 2005. Literacy Connections is a private, not for profit, 501(C) (3) organization committed to helping adults and families become functionally literate. The organization works with the lowest literacy level adults in Dutchess, Columbia, and Greene Counties. Our core program is to help adults to learn to read and write, and function independently by recruiting and training volunteers to provide one to one and small group tutoring that is student centered. Student centered means not following a pre determined curriculum, and giving a voice to the student with regard to their learning goals. Teaching adults is not the same as teaching children. Materials must be sensitive and respectful of adult learners, and because adults face so many challenges in their daily lives, the learning must be relevant and meaningful. Recognizing that illiteracy/low literacy is a family issue, our Adult Family Literacy Program also offers reading enrichment to children who are struggling with reading in the 2nd 4th grades the crucial time when children are transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn. Earth s atmosphere contains about 78% nitrogen gas but majority of this remains unavailable to the plants. An important feature of our planet ecosystem is the nitrogen cycle, by which nitrogen is converted into different several other forms. The process of conversion involves both biological and non biological processes. Nitrogen cycle consists of nitrogen fixation, assimilation, mineralization, nitrification and denitrification (Postgate 1998). The process of conversion of molecular nitrogen to ammonia is known as nitrogen fixation. Biological nitrogen fixation is the mechanism of reduction of atmospheric nitrogen to a metabolically active form exclusively by microorganisms. Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) involves the enzymatic reduction of N2 to ammonia (NH3 ). Conversion of N2 to ammonia is catalyzed by a metalloenzyme called nitrogenase. Reaction has a high activation energy because molecular N2 is an unreactive gas with a triple bond between the two N2 atoms. Therefore, N2 reduction requires at least 8 electrons and 16 ATP moles, 4 ATPs per pair of electrons. N2 + 8H+ + 8e¯ + 16 ATP = 2NH3 + H2 + 16 ADP + 16 P Three genetically distinct nitrogenase systems have been found in diazotrophs, namely Nif, Vnf and Anf in which the active site central metals are Mo, V, and Fe, respectively (Zhao et al 2006). Humans were also commonly represented (Berenguer 73). Prehistoric men also created abstract designs that have proven hard to identify. They are referred to as signs and a special nomenclature has been developed to better understand their meaning. Tectiforms are generally quadrangular shapes, with crossing vertical lines inside forming a trellis or mesh design. Tectiforms often appear near naturalistic figures of animals.
