Preliminary task
The brief was to recreate a trailer for a horror movie in a week.
We made a trailer for the film Unfriended. We chose to do this
trailer because we believed that it would be possible to recreate
due to how easily we can access social networking sites which are
used throughout the trailer. The original trailer was used as a
storyboard. As we had limited time we had to film quickly and did
so in local locations.
Preliminary task
We had some issues attaining props so
had to improvise like using a hand instead
of a gun. When the filming was done we
used adobe premier to edit the footage.
We had difficulty with editing some of the
clips due to synchronization. Moreover
with some of the shots the quality of the
sound and footage become corrupted and
unclear.
I think the trailer was good due to how we
made the videos footage look like it was
on Youtube and a news website. This
made the trailer seem more realistic.
Improvements
We got our peers to give us feedback on the
trailer. The feedback revealed that the trailer
didn’t really suit the genre of horror. It lacked key
conventions. I will aim in future to make a
product suited for the genre. To improve the
trailer I would use low key lighting and use
typography to make the trailer have an eerie and
have a dark feel. This would make the trailer
better suited to the genre.
Improvements
As a group we didn’t manage to edit and finish
the trailer completely so the audience could not
get a clear idea as to what the genre was and
what the trailer was about. I have learned that
timing is key when making a media product and
in future will aim to manage it better. Moreover
to make the trailer look professional I would use a
production logo and audience certificate.
Targets for Improvement
One of my targets for the future is to ensure that
my time is managed properly so that the trailer
would be completed on time and to a good
standard. Another target would be to work on the
pacing of the trailer because not all the text could
be read due to how quick it was. This meant that
it was hard to understand what was going on.
Targets for Improvement
I think that the trailer didn’t look professional. I
have made the target to make media products
that look professional and high quality. Another
target would be to se a wider range of shot types
and angles to help create the atmosphere of a
horror. I would improve my trailer by using non
diegetic music to create suspense and tension.
This is a key code and convention of the horror
genre.
Targets for Improvement
Moreover the typography used did not really suit
the genre of horror so in future I will try to select
fonts that best suit the genre. Moreover I would
make sure that the story of the movie would be
told not only through dialogue but with facial
expressions that would help to express the
situation better. Another target would be to make
use of lighting to help create a different
atmosphere like a dark one with low key lighting.

Preliminary Task

  • 1. Preliminary task The brief was to recreate a trailer for a horror movie in a week. We made a trailer for the film Unfriended. We chose to do this trailer because we believed that it would be possible to recreate due to how easily we can access social networking sites which are used throughout the trailer. The original trailer was used as a storyboard. As we had limited time we had to film quickly and did so in local locations.
  • 2. Preliminary task We had some issues attaining props so had to improvise like using a hand instead of a gun. When the filming was done we used adobe premier to edit the footage. We had difficulty with editing some of the clips due to synchronization. Moreover with some of the shots the quality of the sound and footage become corrupted and unclear. I think the trailer was good due to how we made the videos footage look like it was on Youtube and a news website. This made the trailer seem more realistic.
  • 3. Improvements We got our peers to give us feedback on the trailer. The feedback revealed that the trailer didn’t really suit the genre of horror. It lacked key conventions. I will aim in future to make a product suited for the genre. To improve the trailer I would use low key lighting and use typography to make the trailer have an eerie and have a dark feel. This would make the trailer better suited to the genre.
  • 4. Improvements As a group we didn’t manage to edit and finish the trailer completely so the audience could not get a clear idea as to what the genre was and what the trailer was about. I have learned that timing is key when making a media product and in future will aim to manage it better. Moreover to make the trailer look professional I would use a production logo and audience certificate.
  • 5. Targets for Improvement One of my targets for the future is to ensure that my time is managed properly so that the trailer would be completed on time and to a good standard. Another target would be to work on the pacing of the trailer because not all the text could be read due to how quick it was. This meant that it was hard to understand what was going on.
  • 6. Targets for Improvement I think that the trailer didn’t look professional. I have made the target to make media products that look professional and high quality. Another target would be to se a wider range of shot types and angles to help create the atmosphere of a horror. I would improve my trailer by using non diegetic music to create suspense and tension. This is a key code and convention of the horror genre.
  • 7. Targets for Improvement Moreover the typography used did not really suit the genre of horror so in future I will try to select fonts that best suit the genre. Moreover I would make sure that the story of the movie would be told not only through dialogue but with facial expressions that would help to express the situation better. Another target would be to make use of lighting to help create a different atmosphere like a dark one with low key lighting.
