Evaluation Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
Since I did not use of the storyboard, shot
divison list, prop list, screenplay etc I did not
do the preliminary task very well as it was hard
for me to just shoot a project without
the help of these planning and preparation
methods. These methods have made
me develop in to a better media student as
they increased the productivity and
speed of my work as I knew what shots and
dialogues had to be done when and
where.
I was able to manage my time as the preliminary task helped me realize
that I must have time even after I am done with my shoot and editing
so that if I need to reshoot or redo some of the things in my product
then I must have ample of time for it. Also managing time helped me have
more time for my shoot and that made me do more creative and productive
things rather than doing things in a hassle.
I used better camera skills than in my preliminary task as I used better panning and
tracking skills with inch-perfect movements. I used more different kinds of shots
according to my storyline and the ones which could fit it perfectly such as two
shot of my characters when they were having a discussion, a wide shot during the
action scene of the characters, close up shot of the character to show his
emotions after killing his friend.
As conventions of film opening sequences were not need for my preliminary product
I did not do any research for it but my Final Film needed it to make it look more
professional and give it a look of a proper film project. I gave my best during the research
and how my logo should be. I went with the line ‘Keep it simple stupid’ and made my logo
as simple and good as it would look being simple.
When editing the preliminary task I did not really know how to add music or special
effects during a particular scene or to add transitions such as fade to black or white.
I simply learnt the help of razor tool in premiere pro from my preliminary task. I learnt how
to add audio tracks or voice overs for my final product and this helped me to edit my
final film with more ease and much better tools about which I did not know before. This
way I hope my movie has become better and that people who watch it and my
preliminary task do acknowledge the improvements in editing.
With preliminary task having no target audience I did not need to
be in any limits when writing the dialogues and the script as no one
was taken in to consideration but for my final product I had to keep
my target audience in mind. My target audience were mostly male
who like the action-drama genre more than the females and so
I had to keep them in mind while making the project.
During the shoot of my prelim I had difficulty with the lighting as I could not use the
camera properly to adjust to the lights as sometimes it was dark and sometimes it was
too bright to see. I also did not know how to use lights properly so that they potray the
frame more creatively.
Though for my final film product I did know how to use the camera techniques of allowing
as much as light as I require for the shot.
While shooting for my prelim I used the Microsoft Word to write my script whereas for
my final film project I used the Final Draft as it had a proper format for the screenplay.
There were different options for shots, transitions, characters, dialogues etc.
