Q6 -What have you
learned about
technologies from the
process of
constructing your
product?
PHOTOSHOP
Throughout the creation of my magazine, photoshop was the programme
that I used to create it on. I had used photoshop before in my previous
subject so I had a basic understanding of how it worked, however I had not
used it to add so much detail to my work. During the process of my
magazine, I learnt a lot and developed new skills that I carried forward
when starting a new part of my magazine which allowed me to be more
adventurous.
One of the new skills I learned was how to place an image over text. I originally wanted to do this as I thought
that it would make my magazine look more professional, however I did not know how therefore I watched
youtube tutorials to help me. After watching them, I found out how to do it and that it was all to do with moving
and creating new layers and placing them in front of each other. Along with this, while using photoshop I found
out how to create a bold outline on text by right clicking on the layer with text you want to make bold, followed
by clicking ‘blending options’ and then ‘stroke’.
PHOTOSHOP
I found that as I had not used photoshop before, I could
experiment more and find out which tools would be
useful when creating my final piece.A tool that I used a
lot was the lasso tool as this was because it was able to
cut a sharp outline and remove all background to make
my images look professional.
BLOGGER
When gathering all my research, I used blogger to put it all together and share my work. Prior to this, I had never
used blogger, I had only used blogging websites such asTumblr, therefore I did not know how to uses it, however
I figured it out quickly. By using blogger I was able to keep up to date on all my posts and see my progress with
my work. Along with this it allowed me to have good time management as I had to keep updating my post each
week, therefore I was always doing work and always had a task done in time.
When using blogger, I figured out how to embed videos and change HTML to that certain media rich
programmes would fit onto my blog by changing the sizing of the video players. Along with this, as I had never
used blogger before, I did not know that you could edit posts or change the date or upload calendars.
After using blogger for a while, I found it to be very useful how I could upload text posts and upload videos, in
which they would post instantly. I also found it useful how my blog could be seen by everyone so that my work
could be seen by a wider audience.
YOUTUBEAND PREZI
When I had to make my blog media rich, Prezi was the first programme
that I used after finding it when looking online and instantly I found it
easy. I decided to use prezi because I found that it would make my
work look more interesting, while includuing information in a different
format and it allowed me to edit it and add extra detail if I needed to.
Along with this, it allowed me to add images and create a spider
diagram online with little time wasted.
Because I was using programmes such as prezi and emaze a lot, I
needed to find another way to make my blog media rich. I decided
that for my questionnaire, I would ask my sister to do it for me, and
then I could upload the video onto youtube and add backing music
to make it more interesting. Along with this, youtube is a very
widely used social media website, therefore it allowed me to get my
content uploaded and shared quickly.
CAMERA
When it came to doing the photoshoot, as I
was not using a studio I needed my photos to
look as professional as possible without using
any artificial lighting. For this I decided that I
was going to use my EOS canon camera so
that I would get a crisp image and good focus
on the models face.
After I had taken the photos on my canon camera, I wanted to see the difference of
that camera and my iphone camera. I decided that the iphone camera did work and
did have a clear focus, however when zooming in I found that the image became
blurred and that would be no good for my work as I needed to zoom in on my
models face so that there would be a clear direct mode of address.
I did my photoshoot in the evening and as I did it in winter, I noticed that it was
getting dark quicker and that I would be needing a flash for my camera and my canon
allowed me to get a professional look even with a flash, and it didn’t wash out my
models face.
