Chelsea Myers evaluates her media product and identifies several areas for improvement in future projects. She created a magazine front cover that included many typical elements like a masthead, cover lines, and barcode, but notes the cover lines could have been more interesting. She included a contents page with cover lines, photos, and basic color scheme, but recognizes it did not fully follow her planned scheme. Overall, she gained skills using design software and applying conventions, and identifies ways to strengthen visual elements, text, and adherence to plans for subsequent media creations.
2. • In this course i have been able to use many different media technologies
in the construction of my media product and i have been able to make my
media product develop, challenge forms and conventions or real media
products by in my front cover i have got most things that are on an actual
front cover. I used many codes and conventions on my front cover and i
developed them by making sure that the mast head was all the way along
the top of the front cover, made sure that you could see the persons face
by not putting any text over the face or anything else over the face as that
is what people mainly look at on a magazine.
• Also i made sure that my all of my text was matching the colour scheme
otherwise there would be no point on having a colour scheme. I also
made sure that the cover lines stood out and that they were able to be
read by people. I know that next time my cover lines will be more
interesting as they were very simple and as they are on the front page
they are the only thing that they see first on the magazine and they are
the only thing that will tell them about whats going to be inside the
magazine apart from the contents page but that is inside so they wont see
that first, but i will need to make sure that i improve on my cover lines
next time and make them more interesring and that they give enough
information to the audience who is reading the magazine.
3. • I added 5 cover lines onto my front cover however i could of
changed the font so it was a bit more clear as now i look back at
what i did i now see that the font is nice and all but it’s too fancy
and you may not be able to read it as well and some other people
but i now know to change it next time so the font for my title on my
front cover is more clear to read.
• The title on my front cover was straight across the page but the one
thing i never done was have a positioning statement underneath
the title which is a line or promotion for itself/ethos/either which i
will do next time.
• The picture that i used was of a young girl who is a pupil in
Weatherhead High School and she was standing up and smiling
which is in the middle of the page and its a meduim shot but i will
need to make sure that next time when i take the photo that i get a
more better shot of the girl, yes the girl is looking directly at the
audience but the shot could of been a bit more tidy and moer
happy so that i was i will need to make sure that i get next time i do
a magazine.
4. • I have included a barcode onto the front page but i never made sure that the
barcode went with the backgrond as in made sure that the colour of the
background blended into the barcode as it is just white around the barcode and it
doesn’t look that nice and you can tell that i have just put a barcode there which
will show up when i show my front page to peope.
• The web address is at the bottom of the page and it goes with my colout scheme
and it looks nice with the style of font that i went for but i now can see that the
font isnt that easy to read plus its a bit too small as well so you could only
understand the web address if someone read it out to you but that is something
that i can improve on next time.
• Cover lines- quite ambiguous on purpose to draw the reader in always written in
capitals. All cover lines use the same font (bold and simple) Cover lines frame the
image. A main cover line anchors the main image larger font that cover lines, but
not larger than the title. About 5/6 cover lines maximum. Sub lines- add detail to
the cover line. Cover line- not always making the story clear. Background- to main
image is plain to make the image used stand out more. Smaller- subsidiary images
lint to other stories inside of magazine or other cover lines self font (with hooks)
few fonts are used sons self (plain font) times new roman or Ariel. Cover lines-
short.
• The software that i used to do my front cover on was Adobe Photoshop, and it was
easy to do with most of the stuff that i wanted to do with my front cover but at
times i didn’t find it a bit hard to do certain things on photo shop for example i
weren’t sure how unhide the layers as i has hidden some layers without even
noticing but after knowing what to do and how to un hide the layers i was fine
then.
5. • The contents page that i did was very much like a real life contents page as i have
included things like photos, the cover lines down the side with numbers at the side
of them, the title ‘contents and subscription at the bottom of the page in the
corner.
• For the cover lines that i used were 5 of the same from the front cover and 5 new
ones so in the end i had 10 different cover lines for the contents page which have
numbers by them so if it was a real magazine then the person who was reading it
would then flick to that page and then read the article.
• The photos that i used where there is one foot on the football, performing arts and
ones for ice radio and there were two in each column and they involved someone
posing with a microphone, someone with their foot on a football and then just
some music stands and some headphones. I think i could of improved my photos
by getting more different shot types of different photos and making them not just
be in the same place which were just in the two columns. I will now know this for
next time i do a contents page.
• With the colour scheme i haven’t really stuck to the colour scheme i have only
used two colours but that’s because i wanted to keep it plain as possible and also i
weren’t too sure on what text to do which colour, so i will need to make sure that
next time i use more than two colours as its not really sticking to my plan that i
made for the contents page so i will have to refer back to my plan in future.
