Disney Case Study
Competitive Position Disney is considered to be one of the pioneers in the entertainment industry, and
for almost one century, the company have managed to grow successfully and to respond tremendously
well to global changes such as the rapid technological evolution and the constant variations in
customer trends. The reason they have accomplished that is because Disney shaped in people s mind
the assumption of permanent, combined with an outstanding delivery of their products and services,
which in simple word means: we are always going to be here . This is described by Miles and Snow
(2003) as the Defender strategic approach, where large corporations fights to preserve and maintain

2011). [pic] Down to the fact that Disney s major competitors in the Media Network/Broadcasting are
also big conglomerates, this creates a tough competitive environment, because when consumers have a
range of option to choose it from, automatically the power of buyer increases (Boddy, 2011), and the
only way companies managed to compete is via dropping the price and attempt to persuade consumers
to switch from one company to another. This conflict is noticeable when looking into the average
number of audience between the most popular network televisions, where Disney is in the 3rd rank
with 5.4million viewers per night (see page 11, 2nd paragraph). Regarding the studio entertainment
group, again, Disney stands in a very competitive environment controlled by seasonality, predilections
and taste of consumers. This indicates once more the high power of buyers, and additionally, the threat
of substitute products or services may occur e.g. because of the decline on consumer spending, people
may choose to watch a movie on the free channel rather than by a film on a Pay per view channel or to
go out for dinner instead of going to the movies. Overlooking Parks Resorts, mainly in the parks
segment, Walt Disney is the number one leader in the industry and only competes with two major
rivals: Six Flags and Ocean Park. Nevertheless, despite the fact that Disney have a strong brand image

The Two Anthills
In a land far far away there were two anthills. Only two in the land. The anthills were not aware of
their existence. In one anthill brimming with collected resources and a fair queen lived the Opie ants.
In the other there were corrupted a corrupted queen who made the ants work until their death to satisfy
her. Those were the Totie ants. Some of the Totie ants were good and hardworking but some turned
evil just like the queen. The Totie ants and the Opie ants had the same anthills but different leader. The
Opies had an abundance of food; whereas the Totie ants were starving because the queen only looked
after her own well being and ate all the food. The Totie ants were miserable with their leaders and

The Totie ant raised the amount of food Totie ands had to bring. Eventually, and ant called Roscoe
who was a Totie got tired and decided to venture outside of his anthill to try and find another place
where he could live a better life. Over mountains, through valleys Roscoe ventured, with supplies in
his pack on his back. Eventually, he came upon the Opie ants and he saw how they had a fair queen
and a better life than the one he had back home. Roscoe begged to be allowed to join them and to be
able to be part of this anthill and they said yes but he had to do things. He had to learn the history of
the Opie ants and be willing to abide by their rules. He did this and became part of their anthill. He
worked and lived their for two years before he went back to the Totie anthill. He was finally reunited
with his family that he had left two years ago. He told them about this new land

Arcelormittal Executive Summary
ArcelorMittal is a steel and mining company with a global presence in more than 60 countries. It is a
leader in major global carbon steel markets such as automotive, construction, and household
appliances to name a few. It is the combination of Arcelor and Mittal Steel, the latter being the origin
of the present company.
Mr. Lakshmi N. Mittal, Chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal, started in the steel industry by building
his first steel plant in Indonesia in 1976. This would form the beginning of Ispat International, while
also establishing its parent holding company, LNM Group. In the 1980 s, still a minor player in the
steel industry, Mittal looked to a new potential raw material source, DRI (Direct reduced Iron). This

Its available cash is used for future acquisitions and strategic movements. Total assets for the year
ending 2010 were 130,904 compared to 127,697 in 2009.
As of December 31, 2010 Total current liabilities were 30,723 compared to 23,491 in 2009. Part of
ArcelorMittal s current liability stems from a 3.2 billion term loan repayment due in 2011 from its
credit facility. It has begun to make a goal of reducing debt by delaying near term payments on debt
through refinancing and by modifying the terms of its repayment contracts. Accounts payable is the
largest current liability at 13,256 for the year ending 2010 compared to 10,676 in 2009. The increase is
due to increase in transactions with related parties that include associates and joint ventures with the
company. Its second largest current liability is accrued expenses which were 6,900 for the year ending
2010 compared to 6,922 in 2009.
As of December 31, 2010 Total liabilities were 64,804 compared to 62,260 in 2009. Bond issuances
increased total debt and net total debt increased due to increased working capital from higher levels of
steel production.
Revenues for the year ending 2010 were 78,025 compared to 61,021 in 2009. Sales in 2010
represented an increase of 28% over 2009. This was due to a rise in steel shipments as well as a
smaller rise in steel prices. Although 2010 did see an improvement in sales, it still

The Three Stages Of Memory Encoding
On a day to day basis humans are processing different information constantly. Have you ever
wondered how this is possible? Have you ever wondered why you are able to obtain new information,
store it, and then recall it for later usage? For example, how is it possible that we can study for a test
one day, and then the next day we are able to retrieve that very information to use to take and pass a
test? Because memory is an important cognitive process it helps us to record the past, so we are able
to refer back to it at a later date. If humans didn t have a memory, we would only be able to
understand the present and our past wouldn t exist. The urge to study how memory works and the
concept behind, it has been around for many years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This happens through three stages which include encoding, storage, and retrieval.
Memory Encoding
Before information is able to be stored successfully in our memory, information from our sensory
input has to be changed into a form in which our brain is able to comprehend. For example, our
perception of something may be different from how it is actually explained, so we have to encode it in
order to better understand it. There are three main stages where encoding occurs; visual (picture),
acoustic (sound), and semantic (meaning) (McLeod, 2007). We go through these three stages often
without even realizing it. For example, when we have to remember a series of numbers for something,
we may keep referring back to it so we have a mental image of it (visual), we may repeat it to
ourselves ( acoustic), and it has to be significant to us otherwise we would have a need to remember it
(semantic).
Memory Storage
Storage in the human memory is the second of the three processes. The process of storing information
involves filtering out and filing information so our brain does not experience an information overload.
The information our brain receives can be stored into our long term, short term or sensory memory.
Memory storage also involves how long we are able to obtain that information and how much
information our brain can actually withhold. According to Miller (1956) most adults are able to store

Drug Use And Its Effect On The Global Increase Of Death...
Introduction Illicit drug use is a prevalent issue in today s society. According to the Australian Institute
of Health and Welfare, the global increase of death and disease can be largely attributed to the illegal
use of drugs (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). Though the rates of illegal drug use have remained constant
in recent years, there has been a shift in the use of specific drugs (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). One
drug that has received a lot of attention due to an apparent increase in usage is Methamphetamine.
Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant drug that has been a source of controversy within
Australia. Though the usage of methamphetamine in Australia has remained constant over the past few
years, there has been a significant change in the preferred form of the drug (Illicit Use of Drugs,
2013). For example, the usage of methamphetamine powder saw a significant decrease from 2010 to
2013. In contrast, the use of the crystalline form more commonly know as ice nearly doubled in the
same time frame (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). Due to the increase of ice usage, as well as the highly
addictive nature of the drug, many are concerned that Australia is in the midst of an ice epidemic. This
essay will examine methamphetamine s pharmacokinetic properties, its pharmacological mechanisms,
the long and short term effects of use, as well as discuss the prevalence of ice in Australia.

AP Vocabulary Word Analysis
Leonardo Da Vinci once said, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Many times when we write, we
tend to over use fancy words and try too hard to make our writing sound smart. This extra fluff and
weirdly placed buzz words may not quite make sense in the context, but of course, they re AP vocab
words I have to use them and it is a very loose synonym so it works right? Sometimes, the best, and
most smart sounding way to get your point across is to write it out straight forward and not
discombobulate your main idea with extra and unnecessary phrases and words. Less is more. I am
definitely guilty of trying too hard to add in extra vocabulary to increase the professional and
insightful tone of my papers. Almost always, when going

Foreign Language And Its Effects On American Society
The foreign language deficit in America serves to be inimical to the future of American society.
America s foreign language curriculum displays a more than lackluster approach in relation to those
upheld in other countries. Unlike our European counterparts, most American school systems only
require that students acquire two foreign language credits to graduate. Most of the time, these courses
are either taught by some athletic coach who could really care less if you know how to conjugate the
verb ir correctly, or by an overly passionate foreigner who spends the class time intensively explaining
said conjugations to a class full of seniors who just want to graduate. In some states, this requirement
is even nonexistent.

Most of the tacticians throughout Europe and Asia have procured a mastery of several different
languages, English to be included. In accordance with American history, only half of our presidents
(21 to be precise) had a command on a foreign language, sometimes demonstrating a fluency in both
reading and writing in multiple foreign languages. The majority of these men held office between the
18th and 19th centuries, when language retained greater value in society. The presidents of the 20th
and 21st century do not have the same qualities.
As stated in David Skorton and Glenn Altschuler s article entitled America s Foreign Language Deficit
, learning a foreign language is necessary...
To prosper economically and to improve relations with other countries, U.S. Secretary of Education
Arne Duncan declared, Americans need to read, speak and understand other languages. ...18% of
Americans report speaking a language other than English, while 53% of Europeans (and increasing
numbers in other parts of the world) can converse in a second language.
Multiple studies exist that display the lack of effort exhibited in America in terms of language
learning. According to the Forbes article, the amount of private elementary schools that offer foreign
language courses dropped from 31 to 25 percent, while instruction in public elementary schools
dropped from 24 percent to 15 percent. Even the percentage of middle schools with foreign language
programs decreased from 75 to 58 percent.

King Arthur and his knights are having the holiday feasts around the table in the hall. Suddenly, an
unknown green knight enters to their hall on the horseback. He humiliates Arthur and his knights and
therefore Arthur invites him to have a fight, but he refuses. However, he challenges someone to strike
him with his own axe instead. Gawain, the niece of Arthur, feels offended and stands up to take the
challenge. He then chops the green knight s head. However, the green knight does not fall down from
his horse, but goes down and picks up his head. After that, he left and everyone enjoys the feast again.

Examples Of Performance Analysis In Soccer
Introduction
The critical review of this performance analysis paper titled, Game location and team quality effects
on performance profiles in professional soccer, authors Joaquin Lago ballesteros and Carlos Lago
Penas.
Researchers and team sports professionals all over the world are using performance analysis both to
improve their understanding of their sport and the development of their teams (Taylor et al., 2008).
The aim of this investigation therefore was to examine the influence of game location and team
quality on tactical and technical performances (primary measure of performance). The first objective
was to extend the existing home advantage literature in soccer that has examined a limited number of
performance indicators (e.g., Nevill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since Schwartz and Barsky s study (1977), home advantage is well established at both amateur and
professional level in many sports (Gomez et al., 2008; Varca, 1980) not just in soccer but in all sports,
according to (R Pollard and G Pollared et al, 2007) home advantage can be seen in Baseball,
Basketball, American football, hockey and soccer. Specifically for soccer, home advantage has been
shown to exist since the start of the Football League in England in 1888 1889 and has been shown to
continue across all the leagues of the professional sport since the early years (Nevill and Holder, 1999;
Pollard and Pollard, 2005, Sanchez et al., 2009). In an attempt to improve the understanding of the
occurrence, Courneya and Carron (1992) proposed an outline to investigate the effects of the match
location or competition and any subsequent home advantage. The framework comprised five
interrelated components suggested to influence home advantage, including the match venue, game
location factors, the critical psychological and behavioural states of the competitors, coaches, and
officials, and the subsequent performance

God s Fourth Speech With Noah
Introduction
God s fourth speech with Noah (9:1 17) is a cluster of three sub speeches, which will be further
explored in this analysis. Similar aspects of Genesis 1 are echoed; a new cosmic order is installed,
initiating a pre creation period. God blesses the humans and commissions them to take domination
over all creatures. This passage is of great importance to not just the Genesis story but also the Old
Testament as a whole. I will further depict central meanings throughout the passage, as well as
investigate literary aspects in order to grasp a greater understanding of this chapter.
Covenants are the promise and obligation between two or more people. At the beginning of this
chapter in the Genesis, the Covenant between God and Noah ... Show more content on

(5:1 9:29) The opening line Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth (Ge 9:1) establishes a
start in a significant period of time. While Adam and Eve were asked a similar command from God,
their sins and disobedience was the end of the beginning.
The Noahic covenant is the covenant that God made with Noah after he left the ark, sealed with a
rainbow, that He would never again destroy the earth with a flood. The narrative of Noah and the Ark
is one of the most well known stories from the Old Testament. In some of its artistic representations, it
is characterised as a story of an old man who takes pairs of animals onto an ark to ride out an
incredible flood, safely coming to rest as a rainbow appears in the sky. Whilst the essence of this is
recorded in the Genesis account of the Flood, the biblical narrative is much more than this unusual
story. It is a narrative written in the context of an Israelite community, striving to understand and
interpret the way their God works in and through both humanity and the world God has created for all.

The Satire Of Lysistrata And The Athenian Coupe Of 411 Bc...
Satire have an amazing power. It is often used to make people laugh, think and enjoy; however, it can
also be used, unintentionally, for manipulation. People claim Aristophanes work, Lysistrata, to be an
attack on the political structure of ancient Greece, and it can be argued that the play incited the
Athenian coupe of 411 BC (Ruffell, 2013, p. 270). The main intention of satire is to make people
laugh, and in order to accomplish that goal, a theme must be created using recognizable figures in
society and geographic locations that the audience can connect to. Also, the use of comedic devices
should be present to entice laugh and maybe change. When themes and comedic devices start to
dabble in politics and social injustices, people begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be interpreted that the person who holds the status and ideals are the victim.
How a victim of humiliation is targeted must be further explored to relate ancient Greek comedy to
modern comedy. In ancient Greek comedies, these poor souls are referred to as being a
komodoumenos. The longer a person held a prominent title, the more suitable he was to become the
butt of a joke. If the person was also greedy and caught in the act of doing a crime to the public, he
was ensuring that he would be the target of a Greek comedy (Sommerstein, 1996). The reason the
length of time that someone held a position of power was, and still is, important is because time offers
opportunities to either gain shame or respect. For those who gained the former, the audience would be
able to instantly connect to the theme emerging from the ridicule. Today, The Rick Mercer Report
imitates the comedies of Ancient Greece by showcasing the less than attractive characteristics of
prominent Canadian politicians. The humiliation of the politicians is the theme of the show, and it is
not intended for political information, but for satirical entertainment. The reason the audience is able
to connect to the theme is because of prior knowledge of the politicians (Onusko, 2011, p. 140). It is
here that the foolishness of the audience begins, as they believe the satire to be a political view, and
not just entertainment for comedy s sake.
Ruffell (2013) claims that the victim of

My Experience In College
This semester has been filled with many different encounters and situations. Many different feelings
and people. My experience in this first semester is likely one that I won t forget, I will likely
remember my first semester at Badley until the bell tolls for me and I leave this current plain of
existence and begin anew. Throughout this paper I will discuss what I experienced, the problems I
faced, and how I feel I improved because of this semester. First, I d like to go through my experiences
at Bradley during this first semester and how they shaped and molded me into who I am at the end. I,
like most people, have experienced the relatively limitless freedom that we have at Bradley, being
college students. For instance, going from a timeframe system of all day school spanning from the
early school years until high school and then shifting to a timeframe system that allows a lot more
allotted free time is quite liberating and very welcome. Being trapped and confined to a single
building for severals hours five days a week is not ideal for anyone. It s almost like being in a prison,
as many students have described school for years. However, this new freedom, while it is welcomed,
can also be disadvantageous because it can and will cause laziness because with more freedom the
more people will put things off and I myself have fallen victim to this. There have been quite a few
times that I have put off assignments to play video games or to watch movies because I have hours or

The Promised Analysis of Gay Suburbia
In Peacocks, Chameleons, Centaurs, Wayne Brekhaus discusses more than the promised analysis of
gay suburbia. Brekhaus presents a thorough investigation of human identity construction, which just
so happens to apply well to gay suburban life in America. The title refers to the three main types of
identity management that people use to construct their sense of self. Brekhaus defines his terms well.
Identity is defined in three ways; or, there are three different types of identity. These three identity
types include the following: first, there are broad group identities; then, there are the commonly
recognized dimensions along which group identities are formed, such as sexual identity; and finally,
there is self identity. An individual can have multiple identities; what Brekhaus explores is how
individuals manage these sometimes disparate identities in one persona. The person will have a core
self, or true self, the very core of a person that reflects an inner, true, unchanging, context independent
essence of human being (Brekhaus 23). Brekhaus posits three main methods of managing identity, or
three identity types. Those three identity types include the lifestyler (peacocks); the commuter
(chameleon); and the integrator (centaur). These are also what Brekhaus refers to as identity
grammars, as there is a grammar or structure by which identity is formed. Each of these three identity
management types (lifestyler, commuter, and centaur) corresponds with a grammatical

Accounting Information Systems
Chapter One
As accounting students we have studied a variety of accounting areas involving financial and taxes.
The accounting information course appears to be a course that heads in a different direction then what
we as students have become accustomed to. Speaking for myself I have always been drawn to the
accounting field because it is a black and white area. In other words, there it is organized and has right
and wrong answers, this leaving out the gray areas between right and wrong.
Accounting information systems appears to be throwing us into a whole new area of the study of
accounting. The fine line between right and wrong is becoming smudged into a gray area. With

One of the groups is sponsored/commercial information that has the main interest of making a profit
by selling products and their services. The second type is going to be popular/practitioner information
and is put through a review process. Both of these groups can be bias but the second group will
usually be trustworthy. However, we will need to keep in mind that the writer of the second group may
have a motive. The third group is the scholarly information group which also has been put through a
review process. This third group is written by people with higher degrees and can be hard for
undergraduates to interpret. Information on accounting information systems will need to be reviewed
and looked over carefully to make sure that it is valid information and something that we should really
consider before it is used.
I have chosen these points in the text as important ones because the conceptual framework is one that
we should become familiar with because it should be there throughout our education and follow us
into our careers because it was developed to be used as a guide for any future accounting principle.
The construction of an accounting information system is also important because we are going to need
to know what the accounting information system is constructed of because there may be a day that we
will be asked to help with the development and we should know the basic concept of it and what it is.

unable to approach Kheros without taking heavy casualties. Numerous attacks on Navarone have been
unsuccessful and the sabotage mission is the last option to destroy the guns. The plan is for Mallory

Comparing Cinema And Psychoanalysis
Both Cinema and Psychoanalysis were born at the end of the 19th century. They share a common
historical background shaped by the changes that modernity imposed over the Western societies.
Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why psychoanalysis influenced cinema so much. At the time the
brothers Lumière were screening the first results of the cinematograph , Freud and Joseph Breuer had
recently published their studies on Hysteria (The Guardian, 2001). In this essay I will analyse how my
way of understanding and reading films has changed because of the acknowledgement of Freud s
psychoanalytic theories and their influence on film. (Hill, Gibson, 1998)

Before then, psychologists like Wundt and Skinner had concentrated in the introspective analysis of
the normal human mind. There were aiming to unmask the conscience, showing it like a puppet at the
mercy of primitive impulses. They studied human actions and reactions to these impulses, but not the
mental processes surrounding them. Mental illnesses were considered organic ; it was thought that
they were produced by some kind of deterioration or disease of the brain (LLC, 2016) . The research
done around mental illness tried to discover what changes of the brain would lead to insanity. Many
diseases did not show any physical mental damage but it was assumed that the techniques were not yet
sufficient. The psychological causes were ignored. Freud changed this perspective forever (Silverman,
1985).
Freud was reluctant to the fusion of psychoanalysis and film. He rejected several offers from major
studios to write scripts and he disliked being filmed or photograph (The Guardian, 2001). This did not
stop his theories from leaving a mark in film. His explanation of the human mind presented cinema

emphasises the form rather than the content. It demonstrates a belief that language does not simply
mirror the world, but aids us in reconstruction. Postmodernism is sceptical about the universal truth as
well as the language that claims to be authoritative and objective. The stylistic technique of a

She wants to look up to the original words but she knows that the bible is kept locked up... [they]can
be read to from it, by him, [they] cannot read . Offred s statement reveals the juxtaposition demeanour
Gilead has, for the state forcing them to submit to their so called one true religion , but restricting
access to knowledge by banning them from reading and writing. The regime can interpret it however
they please without citizens challenging, preventing the public to identify made up statements that are
claimed to be taken from the Bible. In addition, Gilead also uses clothing to represent hierarchy, with
dress codes that demonstrates women s lack of individuality and autonomy, as if they have become
interchangeable, like matching outfits on a rack, this is revealed as Offred describes her daily clothes
with red shoes... everything except the wings around [her] face is red: the colour of blood, which
defines [them] . The symbolism of red represents sins; namely adultery, conveying the notion of
repressive nature and the sexual acts they are forced to perform with their commanders, the clothing
also blinds them to the outside world and keep them hidden from it, portraying the limits of freedom
they have. Various interpretation affects the construction of truth; reader must be aware construction

use of the Bible justify its rule the same way readers interpret

Schizophrenia Case Study Catatonia
Jerry is a 24 year old male patient that has been displaying abnormal behavior for over half a year. His
symptoms have caused him to be out of work and the inability to care for himself. Some of the
symptoms he is experiencing is constant loneliness, disorganized speech, and hallucinations. Also, he
shows little emotion except for sporadic inappropriate emotional outburst, but he is still willing to be
cooperative with those around him. Jerry has even been seen making odd facial expressions such as
grimacing. It is also mentioned he collects used toothpicks that he rearranges in no significant fashion.

Asset and Builders Square
Kmart Inc. and Builders Square Case
1. What happens if Kmart s managers decide NOT to accept the Leonard Green offer?
If Kmarts managers decide not to accept the offer they become limited in their options:
● They can continue to wait for a better bid, but they have struggled to get any one interested in their
company as it is. If they decide to turn down Green, but end up not securing another buyer, they would
be forced to return to Green who could offer a much lower bid because Kmart would now be left out
of options.
● It was also projected that Builders Square only had enough cash and working capital to continue its
operations for one more year without any other changes. So their other option is to try and ... Show

As a result of Kmart guaranteeing its subsidiaries leases, the value of this merger depends not only on
the cash received, but also the credit worthiness and skill of the buyer. If the newly merged company
fails, Kmart would be in a much worse position to pay off the debt then if they had just ran a
nonprofitable Builders Square.
5. Leonard Green has put together some projections on the Builders Square/Hech combo. Assess those
projections in light of your industry analysis.
● According to exhibit 1 the Home Improvement market has been growing at a steady pace of about
3.5% for the past 5 years. A lot of this growth steams from the do it yourself consumer market which
is the primary target for the Builders Square and Hechinger Co. merger. Although Home Depot and
Lowe s dominate the bulk of the home improvement market, only 6% of Home Depot s sales come
from building materials and related products compared to the combined 3.4% for Builder s Square and
Hechinger Co. As seen in exhibit 10, the Combined Projections for Proposed Builders Square
Hechinger Merger, Green projects an increased gross profit margin as well as EBITDA assuming a 2%
growth rate for the combined firm. Their profits do struggle in the beginning due to an increasing
amount of revenues lost to competitors along with their high count of closing stores. After year 3 the
effects of competitor openings and store closings levels off with only a 1% change simulating what
appears to be the end

Exploring The Soul In Sir Walter Raleigh s The Lie
In Sir Walter Raleigh s The Lie , the speaker tells the soul to go upon a thankless errand and go accuse
the world of lying. The speaker states that the soul has the truth as its warrant, which gives the soul no
reason to fear telling authorities or those with power. The second stanza starts with the speaker telling
the soul to accuse the church and the court of their wrongdoings. In the third stanza, he tells the soul
what to say about the potentates, and the speaker says their greedy people only doing favors for
money. The fourth and fifth stanzas describe men of high status as greedy only interested in advancing
their own agenda. The next three stanzas have the speaker telling the soul about human qualities, such
as love, age, beauty, wisdom, and wit, of their wrongdoings. The next four stanzas are similar, and the
speaker tells the soul to accuse charity, law, nature, justice, schools and more about how they do
nothing good for society. Then, after the speaker list all the people and virtues that need to improve, he
tells the soul that it may face opposition but should not worry since no stab thy soul can kill (Raleigh
78). The theme of this poem is that people can and should not be afraid to change the way the corrupt
social norms.
The poem starts with the speaker saying that the errand that the soul is about to embark on will make
people angry but should do his best since the truth will guide him. Almost every stanza mentions how

My Career Goal ( Your Career Goals )
1. Career Goals (Your career goals) She was a five year old girl with skinny chicken legs, oversized
glasses, and the most contagious smile you ve ever seen. Every morning for three years, it was this
smiling face that greeted me with an obnoxious wave and anxious enthusiasm as I drove up a long
gravel driveway to a small farmhouse in Granite Falls, Minnesota. As a teen, I worked as a personal
care assistant for young clients suffering physical and intellectual delays. It was the morning I was
pulling in for my final shift that I recognized that helping this little girl reach her full potential by
aiding in her daily activities was a small stepping stone to reaching my goal of earning my doctorate
degree in nursing. Although it was on that specific day that I determined I would pursue a career in
advanced nursing, I have been in love with learning and the healthcare industry for as long as I can
remember. From learning to ride a bike to starting my first IV, I have always blissfully awaited every
lesson and anxiously sought to conquer its content. My intellectual curiosity has continuously driven
me to seek out more knowledge and I ve regularly employed my focus and commitment skills to grasp
complex issues and ideas. My primary goal for completing the graduate program is to obtain the
knowledge and skills necessary to assume a more autonomous role in healthcare. My hope is that by
attending graduate school, I will be immersed into an intellectual environment surrounded by

tragic encounter with the police 7 years before the bombing ; a standoff between the members and the
police resulted in the death of one police officer and life sentences for 9 MOVE members (whom are

On the morning after the shooting, the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) went to the school nearby
the scene. They demanded a civilian review board to discipline the police, but they were greeted by
fifty officers holding nightsticks. Two hundred protesters , primarily whites and Puerto Ricans, were
occupying the area in front of the school by noon. The next day 250 people attended James Powell s
funeral under surveillance of policemen. In another part of town, people were putting on a rally
discussing the rising crime rate in Hharlem. The funeral ended without any problems but later on the
rally took a turn for the worst. The crowds made their way to the rooftops and began throwing bricks
and bottles. The police rushed to secure the buildings arresting rioters and CORE members. Over
1,000 people assembled at the intersection of 7th Avenue and 125th street. The police began to break
the crowd down into mobs which ran in different directions. One group made their way to the Theresa
Hotel and a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a police car injuring an officer. The police, authorized to
use firearms, proceeded to fire in the air to hold off rioters on the rooftops. One man was found dead
after being shot by one of the officers random rounds. On the fourth day, July 19 20th, 75 volunteers

The Importance Of Goals And Academic Goals In Education
Different plants grow in different environments. Their differences are accommodated by their
environment. There should be an understanding that students are the same way. Each student thrives in
different environments of learning. Alicia is a sixth grade student who is not thriving in her
environment. She refuses to participate and becomes anxious at the thought of school. Academically,
Alicia struggles to coherently express her thoughts, and she becomes lost in mathematical problems.
Alicia is not thriving in her environment. By looking into the specifics of Alicia s behavior and
academic goals, one can see how she will be able to meet her goals and flourish in the classroom.
Alicia is a bright student, but part of her hardships lie in certain behaviors that distract her and
distance her in school. One example, would be Alicia s reluctance to answer questions in class and
putting her head down on the desk when she is called upon. In order to focus on this lack of
participation, her first behavior goal would be, Given a short, daily one on one meeting with her
teacher to organize and mentally prepare for the day, Alicia will participate in class three times each
day without being called on, as evaluated by the classroom teacher through a data tracking chart daily.
Breaking this goal down, the first half of the goal would be the modification and accommodation
Alicia will receive. PBIS World provided different interventions for students that struggle in
participation.

Essay on The Duality of the American Dream in Amy Tan’s...
For millions of immigrants, America has been seen as the land of opportunity where anyone could
become anything he or she wanted to be. A family that believes strongly in the American dream can be
found in Amy Tan s short story, Two Kinds. The story centers around the daughter of a Chinese
immigrant who desperately wants her daughter to become successful. In the story, the author shows
the difficult lives immigrants face when moving to a new culture. In this short story, the theme shows
the protagonist s conflict with her mother on the type of daughter her mother wants her to be. The
author establishes the theme of how difficult mother daughter relationships can be through
characterization, setting, and symbolism. Primarily, Tan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The angry tone in the beginning leads to tension, but ends on a softer note once Jing mei is older and
learns to be more sympathetic. The setting of the story helps the theme become more realistic. In
addition to setting, the author uses symbols to strengthen the theme of the story. In the story, the
mother buys Jing mei a piano on which to practice. The mother and Jing mei have different
perspectives on what this symbol means. To Jing mei, the piano symbolizes her mother trying to
change her into something other than herself; however, the piano symbolizes the American dream to
her mother. Eventually as Jing mei ages, she could see her mother s idea on what the piano means and
learns to appreciate the piano. When Jing mei is a woman, [she] realized that [ Pleading Child and
Perfectly Contended ] were two halves of the same song (Tan 9). As Critic Cynthia Becerra states, the
self realization completes this rich vignette, it is not without pain and loss.(Becerra) This realization
shows how she learns that her mother only has high aspirations for her. The symbolical piano helps
the theme by showing the contrasting views between the mother and the daughter in their relationship.
Furthermore, Amy Tan writes a wonderful short story about the complicated relationship between
mothers and daughters, yet one can be enriching. The theme of Two

Descriptive Essay On Vacation
The only sound that filled my ears was my keyboard clicking as my fingers raced across it. I had been
procrastinating from finishing this assignment all evening, but I knew I needed to get it done. The

I heard the soft whispers of my parents that ignited my sense of curiosity. I was concentrating hard;
doing my best trying to make out the hushed words that were being spoken.

14 ½ hours later, we were greeted by the Destin, Florida sign. My level of happiness was
indescribable.
*Time skip: 1 day later*
My parents and I happily trudged out of our chilled condo room, weighed down by various beach
supplies. We made our way to the elevator, slowly but surely exiting the maze we call our condo
hallways. As we glided down, floor after floor, we finally reached the parking garage. We stepped out
of the elevator feeling a mix of humidity and heat immediately cling to our tan bodies. We exited the
garage to find a beautiful scene. Birds were flying overhead as there were sun rays beating down
against white, hot sand. We crossed the bridge that held shoes and scattered shells. After we did so, we
pressed our feet against the white sand that belonged to Destin, Florida. The sight was even more
alluring than I had ever imagined.
The sound of the emerald green ocean water crashing against the shores filled my ears. Children ran
along the shore, smiling from ear to ear while laughing amongst each other clearly enjoying their day.
Some people were searching contently for sea shells, that were visible for miles. I looked out at the
ocean, it stretched out far into the horizon; as far as my eyes could see. There were jetty s that were
perfectly placed within the ocean. I could smell the salt radiating off of the water. I had been waiting
for this moment for a long time; I dashed into the ocean I d been waiting for for the past

Theme Of Tradition In The Good Earth
Tradition is defined by the Merriam Webster Dictionary as an inherited, established, or customary
pattern of thought, action, or behavior (such as a religious practice or a social custom) . The role of
tradition plays an important part in Pearl S. Buck s The Good Earth as it the characters live their life
around the customs. It especially shapes Wang Lung s life as he followed certain practices, but defied
others that he did not feel were so important to him. This influenced the way he related to his father
and uncle and it played a part in his daily life. He tried to stick to his family rituals of working on the
land, wearing a braid, and respecting his elders. Even though he strayed away from these values as he
got older, he mostly found his way back. Tradition (culture?) plays a huge role and the start of The
Good Earth and later diminishes. People believe that you should respect your elders, listen to the gods,
and follow what life is planned for you. If one were to speak against their elders, they would no longer

because they did not grow up poor and ??. At the end of the novel, when they want to sell the land is
when I believe that is when they challenge practices. The land is Wang Lung s life and blood. In the
text it states, If you sell the land, it is the end. ... Rest assured, our father, rest assured. The land is not

Sexism In Ah Q
In Chinese culture, the Confucian attitude towards society seemed to prevail. Women lacked a voice,
education was bereft of importance, and writing lacked substance. However, Lu Xun, one of the most
prominent writers during the May Fourth movement, was a leading figure in helping shed the image of
Confucian literature. His satirical style brought to light some of the major issues occurring in Chinese
culture including the common attitude towards scholars, the sexist society as well as the everlasting
belief that superstition and fortune were important. In Kong Yiji, Lu Xun chronicles the troubled times
of a scholar, and despite his intellect becomes mocked by the villagers and ultimately is cast off. Lu
Xun explores the gender inequality in his short story Ah Q, with the main character being attacked for
disrespecting women. Medicine is inundated with many traditional Chinese superstitions, yet each
superstition has an ironic outcome as nothing goes to plan. Moreover, Lu Xun s parodies not only
created a more realistic perspective of modern beliefs, but his parodies completely reject the
traditional Confucian beliefs, paving the way for new Chinese voices.
In Lu Xun s short story, The True Story of Ah Q, Ah Q s sexist tendencies flood the text. Lu Xun
pokes fun at the pettiness of Ah Q s life when he declares one of his victories his victimization of a
nun. Trying to impress men, Ah Q pinched her hard again before letting her go (Lu Xun, ). In fact, Ah
Q took

Disney Case Study Competitive Position Disney is considered to be one of the pioneers in the entertainment industry, and for almost one century, the company have managed to grow successfully and to respond tremendously well to global changes such as the rapid technological evolution and the constant variations in customer trends. The reason they have accomplished that is because Disney shaped in people s mind the assumption of permanent, combined with an outstanding delivery of their products and services, which in simple word means: we are always going to be here . This is described by Miles and Snow (2003) as the Defender strategic approach, where large corporations fights to preserve and maintain their top position in the market. Despite all ... [pic] Down to the fact that Disney s major competitors in the Media Network/Broadcasting are also big conglomerates, this creates a tough competitive environment, because when consumers have a range of option to choose it from, automatically the power of buyer increases (Boddy, 2011), and the only way companies managed to compete is via dropping the price and attempt to persuade consumers to switch from one company to another. This conflict is noticeable when looking into the average number of audience between the most popular network televisions, where Disney is in the 3rd rank with 5.4million viewers per night (see page 11, 2nd paragraph). Regarding the studio entertainment group, again, Disney stands in a very competitive environment controlled by seasonality, predilections and taste of consumers. This indicates once more the high power of buyers, and additionally, the threat of substitute products or services may occur e.g. because of the decline on consumer spending, people may choose to watch a movie on the free channel rather than by a film on a Pay per view channel or to go out for dinner instead of going to the movies. Overlooking Parks Resorts, mainly in the parks segment, Walt Disney is the number one leader in the industry and only competes with two major rivals: Six Flags and Ocean Park. • 6. The Three Stages Of Memory Encoding On a day to day basis humans are processing different information constantly. Have you ever wondered how this is possible? Have you ever wondered why you are able to obtain new information, store it, and then recall it for later usage? For example, how is it possible that we can study for a test one day, and then the next day we are able to retrieve that very information to use to take and pass a test? Because memory is an important cognitive process it helps us to record the past, so we are able to refer back to it at a later date. If humans didn t have a memory, we would only be able to understand the present and our past wouldn t exist. The urge to study how memory works and the concept behind, it has been around for many years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This happens through three stages which include encoding, storage, and retrieval. Memory Encoding Before information is able to be stored successfully in our memory, information from our sensory input has to be changed into a form in which our brain is able to comprehend. For example, our perception of something may be different from how it is actually explained, so we have to encode it in order to better understand it. There are three main stages where encoding occurs; visual (picture), acoustic (sound), and semantic (meaning) (McLeod, 2007). We go through these three stages often without even realizing it. For example, when we have to remember a series of numbers for something, we may keep referring back to it so we have a mental image of it (visual), we may repeat it to ourselves ( acoustic), and it has to be significant to us otherwise we would have a need to remember it (semantic). Memory Storage Storage in the human memory is the second of the three processes. The process of storing information involves filtering out and filing information so our brain does not experience an information overload. The information our brain receives can be stored into our long term, short term or sensory memory. Memory storage also involves how long we are able to obtain that information and how much information our brain can actually withhold. According to Miller (1956) most adults are able to store between 5 and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Drug Use And Its Effect On The Global Increase Of Death... Introduction Illicit drug use is a prevalent issue in today s society. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the global increase of death and disease can be largely attributed to the illegal use of drugs (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). Though the rates of illegal drug use have remained constant in recent years, there has been a shift in the use of specific drugs (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). One drug that has received a lot of attention due to an apparent increase in usage is Methamphetamine. Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant drug that has been a source of controversy within Australia. Though the usage of methamphetamine in Australia has remained constant over the past few years, there has been a significant change in the preferred form of the drug (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). For example, the usage of methamphetamine powder saw a significant decrease from 2010 to 2013. In contrast, the use of the crystalline form more commonly know as ice nearly doubled in the same time frame (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). Due to the increase of ice usage, as well as the highly addictive nature of the drug, many are concerned that Australia is in the midst of an ice epidemic. This essay will examine methamphetamine s pharmacokinetic properties, its pharmacological mechanisms, the long and short term effects of use, as well as discuss the prevalence of ice in Australia. America s foreign language curriculum displays a more than lackluster approach in relation to those upheld in other countries. Most of the time, these courses are either taught by some athletic coach who could really care less if you know how to conjugate the verb ir correctly, or by an overly passionate foreigner who spends the class time intensively explaining said conjugations to a class full of seniors who just want to graduate. While Adam and Eve were asked a similar command from God, their sins and disobedience was the end of the beginning. The Noahic covenant is the covenant that God made with Noah after he left the ark, sealed with a rainbow, that He would never again destroy the earth with a flood. The narrative of Noah and the Ark is one of the most well known stories from the Old Testament. In some of its artistic representations, it is characterised as a story of an old man who takes pairs of animals onto an ark to ride out an incredible flood, safely coming to rest as a rainbow appears in the sky. Whilst the essence of this is recorded in the Genesis account of the Flood, the biblical narrative is much more than this unusual story. It is a narrative written in the context of an Israelite community, striving to understand and interpret the way their God works in and through both humanity and the world God has created for all. Summarise passage meaning and use of literary techniques (world of the text) Literary Context The passage, Genesis 9: 1 17 in the Old Testament draws on the themes explored throughout the first eight chapters of the biblical book. • 13. The Satire Of Lysistrata And The Athenian Coupe Of 411 Bc... Satire have an amazing power. It is often used to make people laugh, think and enjoy; however, it can also be used, unintentionally, for manipulation. People claim Aristophanes work, Lysistrata, to be an attack on the political structure of ancient Greece, and it can be argued that the play incited the Athenian coupe of 411 BC (Ruffell, 2013, p. 270). The main intention of satire is to make people laugh, and in order to accomplish that goal, a theme must be created using recognizable figures in society and geographic locations that the audience can connect to. Also, the use of comedic devices should be present to entice laugh and maybe change. When themes and comedic devices start to dabble in politics and social injustices, people begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be interpreted that the person who holds the status and ideals are the victim. How a victim of humiliation is targeted must be further explored to relate ancient Greek comedy to modern comedy. In ancient Greek comedies, these poor souls are referred to as being a komodoumenos. The longer a person held a prominent title, the more suitable he was to become the butt of a joke. If the person was also greedy and caught in the act of doing a crime to the public, he was ensuring that he would be the target of a Greek comedy (Sommerstein, 1996). The reason the length of time that someone held a position of power was, and still is, important is because time offers opportunities to either gain shame or respect. For those who gained the former, the audience would be able to instantly connect to the theme emerging from the ridicule. Today, The Rick Mercer Report imitates the comedies of Ancient Greece by showcasing the less than attractive characteristics of prominent Canadian politicians. The humiliation of the politicians is the theme of the show, and it is not intended for political information, but for satirical entertainment. The reason the audience is able to connect to the theme is because of prior knowledge of the politicians (Onusko, 2011, p. 140). It is here that the foolishness of the audience begins, as they believe the satire to be a political view, and not just entertainment for comedy s sake. Ruffell (2013) claims that the victim of ... Throughout this paper I will discuss what I experienced, the problems I faced, and how I feel I improved because of this semester. First, I d like to go through my experiences at Bradley during this first semester and how they shaped and molded me into who I am at the end. I, like most people, have experienced the relatively limitless freedom that we have at Bradley, being college students. For instance, going from a timeframe system of all day school spanning from the early school years until high school and then shifting to a timeframe system that allows a lot more allotted free time is quite liberating and very welcome. Being trapped and confined to a single building for severals hours five days a week is not ideal for anyone. It s almost like being in a prison, as many students have described school for years. However, this new freedom, while it is welcomed, can also be disadvantageous because it can and will cause laziness because with more freedom the more people will put things off and I myself have fallen victim to this. • 15. The Promised Analysis of Gay Suburbia In Peacocks, Chameleons, Centaurs, Wayne Brekhaus discusses more than the promised analysis of gay suburbia. Brekhaus presents a thorough investigation of human identity construction, which just so happens to apply well to gay suburban life in America. The title refers to the three main types of identity management that people use to construct their sense of self. Brekhaus defines his terms well. Identity is defined in three ways; or, there are three different types of identity. These three identity types include the following: first, there are broad group identities; then, there are the commonly recognized dimensions along which group identities are formed, such as sexual identity; and finally, there is self identity. An individual can have multiple identities; what Brekhaus explores is how individuals manage these sometimes disparate identities in one persona. The person will have a core self, or true self, the very core of a person that reflects an inner, true, unchanging, context independent essence of human being (Brekhaus 23). Brekhaus posits three main methods of managing identity, or three identity types. Those three identity types include the lifestyler (peacocks); the commuter (chameleon); and the integrator (centaur). These are also what Brekhaus refers to as identity grammars, as there is a grammar or structure by which identity is formed. • 18. Comparing Cinema And Psychoanalysis Both Cinema and Psychoanalysis were born at the end of the 19th century. They share a common historical background shaped by the changes that modernity imposed over the Western societies. Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why psychoanalysis influenced cinema so much. At the time the brothers Lumière were screening the first results of the cinematograph , Freud and Joseph Breuer had recently published their studies on Hysteria (The Guardian, 2001). In this essay I will analyse how my way of understanding and reading films has changed because of the acknowledgement of Freud s psychoanalytic theories and their influence on film. Before then, psychologists like Wundt and Skinner had concentrated in the introspective analysis of the normal human mind. There were aiming to unmask the conscience, showing it like a puppet at the mercy of primitive impulses. They studied human actions and reactions to these impulses, but not the mental processes surrounding them. Mental illnesses were considered organic ; it was thought that they were produced by some kind of deterioration or disease of the brain (LLC, 2016) . The research done around mental illness tried to discover what changes of the brain would lead to insanity. Many diseases did not show any physical mental damage but it was assumed that the techniques were not yet sufficient. The psychological causes were ignored. Freud changed this perspective forever (Silverman, 1985). Freud was reluctant to the fusion of psychoanalysis and film. He rejected several offers from major studios to write scripts and he disliked being filmed or photograph (The Guardian, 2001). This did not stop his theories from leaving a mark in film. The mother and Jing mei have different perspectives on what this symbol means. To Jing mei, the piano symbolizes her mother trying to change her into something other than herself; however, the piano symbolizes the American dream to her mother. However, Lu Xun, one of the most prominent writers during the May Fourth movement, was a leading figure in helping shed the image of Confucian literature. His satirical style brought to light some of the major issues occurring in Chinese culture including the common attitude towards scholars, the sexist society as well as the everlasting belief that superstition and fortune were important.
