Storytelling and Its Relevance
Storytelling and its relevance
Storytelling is, as a concept, built upon the fundamental question of why. From the dawn
of civilization to the marketing activities of a silicon valley technology company, the
success of every endeavor in between can be traced to the resolution of this fundamental
question. Storytelling is one of the few human traits that are truly universal across culture
and through all of known history, writes Jeremy Hsu for Scientific American .
Anthropologists find evidence of folktales everywhere in ancient cultures, written in
Sanskrit, Latin, Greek, Chinese, Egyptian and Sumerian. People in societies of all types
weave narratives, from oral storytellers in hunter gatherer tribes to the millions of writers
churning out books, television shows and movies.
In his book The Triumph of Narrative, Robert Fulford writes about the historical
significance of narratives and their impact on culture through time and generations. When
ancient man s crop failed, for example, he wanted to know why. To the non scientific
mind, the most compelling explanations arose in the form of religion; crops failed
because the gods were unhappy and required tribute. The power of these stories, as
mentioned, lies in the fact that on some level in the consciousness of the audience they
make sense they resolve the question of why and provide explanation for the happenings
around the brain. The story from Rapunzel to War and Peace is one of the basic tools
invented by the
Account for the Different Physical Properties and Uses of...
Diamond is a giant covalent network structure, having each Carbon atom sharing
electrons with four other Carbon atoms, therefore having four single covalent bonds
formed. These Carbon covalent bonds are extremely strong and account for two of
diamond s most prominent physical properties among all elements, hardness and a high
melting point. Diamond has a high melting point due to the fact that diamond is a
covalent lattice, hence, melting this covalent lattice involves breaking many strong
covalent bonds. This melting process requires a large amount of energy and, as a result,
melting diamond requires a high temperature, approximately around 35500C. Having
strong covalent bonds, diamond also has a high level of hardness due to... Show more

It are these properties which allow graphite to be used to draw with (using a pencil), as
the friction against weak intermolecular forces on paper causes layers of graphite to rub
off onto the paper. It is this layered structure and the weak bonding between the sheets
that determines the soft slippery feel of graphite, thus, creating graphite s self lubricating
property. Being used a lubricant, graphite can be used at very high or low temperatures
for many different works, such as: steelmaking, wire die extrusion lubricant, gear
lubricant for mining machinery and to lubricate locks. While natural graphite can be
used in zinc carbon batteries in electric motor brushes and other specific works.
From all of these uses, graphite also has the ability to conduct electricity, and we can the
reason as to why when looking at the electron arrangement in graphite. As each Carbon
atom bonds to three other Carbon atoms, there is a fourth electron remaining in the
bonding level. These remaining electrons in each Carbon atom form into a sea of
delocalised electrons, moving around the whole sheet of atoms in the one layer. It is
the ability of these delocalised electrons to move freely through their own Carbon layer,
hence, making graphite a good conductor of electricity. Being a good conductor of
electricity graphite, can be used as electrodes to an arc lamp and to carry the electricity
that heats electric arc furnaces.
Due to graphite s layered structure,
Essay about City Council Meetings Observations
The Dahlonega City Hall was crowded on the evening of March 1st 2010. The seats
were full, except for at the very front, and the standing room was filled almost out the
door. The crowd, mostly made up of students, leaned in to hear as the voices of the City
Council members faded in and out of the faltering sound system. The six City Council
members and the mayorsat along a bench as if they were the judges at a hearing.
Because of the ongoing discussions and the crowd, I thought I had arrived a few
minutes late; but I was able to find a seat in the front two rows. Despite how packed the
small room was there were plenty of empty seats in the front. I had thought the meeting
was well on its way by the way conversation was going and... Show more content on

Then another Council member would second the movement if they agreed. Following the
movement being seconded a vote would follow to confirm if the movement was
confirmed or denied.
Several local business owners stood up throughout the meeting asking for variances in
local laws for construction on their buildings. One requested to not be required to add
parking spaces despite the fact that he was adding square footage to his restaurant.
The Dahlonega City laws determine the number of required parking spaces for a
business by square footage. However what the business owner was adding, an indoor
stairway and a landing for the hostess to greet in, would not affect the number of
people that could be seated in the building. The council ultimately said that he could
only put in half the number of required spots. Another business owner stood and
requested a similar variance in the law but was adding office space to the rear of their
building instead of a stairway and landing. Again he wanted to not have to provide extra
parking for the space since it was not going to be used commercially, but because he
mentioned a function that was not stated on the original business plan, the request was
tabled.
Following the portion of the meeting where the public could bring things to the table, the
Council continued with its agenda. Multiple departments came and gave reports on what
they were doing and their progress. Including
Toronto Police s Budget Cuts
Problem
The major problem with the Toronto Police s budget cuts are that they plan to freeze
hiring for three years. This has caused major burnout rates and a reduction in moral in
many officers (Fox, 2017). The plan initiated by the Toronto Police this January is one
looking at a change to police culture as well as budget reduction. The hiring freeze is a
product of the budget, the Toronto Police Service has hit the 1 billion mark as of this
year, exceeding any budget ever had in the past (Powell, 2016). The Toronto police
have made it their goal to not go over this cap and are doing everything in their power
to cut costs. One of the ways they plan on doing this is through a 3 year hiring freeze of
all civilian and new cadets (Lee Shanok, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A prominent example is that of the privatization of Hydro One. Premier Kathleen
Wynne wants to build $29 billion worth of new transit, roads and bridges over the next
10 years, and needs a way to pay for it(Morrow, 2015). In order to find more money, she
has decided to sell off government assets (Morrow, 2015). This takes them out of the
budget thus reducing expenditures as well as brings in money to be sued on other aspects
of government. This is the same to Toronto removing the agencies not directly related to
policing. It will provide more money to the force and remove the expenses that came
along with harbouring those agencies. As Sappington and Stiglitz (1987) s fundamental
Irrelevance Theorem explains, privatization may be, under some conditions, an optimal
solution to the delegation problem (Martimort,
Materialism In Vietnam
I finally arrived at the mansion for the annual family reunion. Many of my relatives
and I were staying at my uncle s mansion in Happy Valley Happy Valley is the Beverly
Hills of Oregon. There were over thirty five of my relatives in Oregon at the time and
most of the relatives from California were staying at the mansion. I never fully
understood how materialistic my familywas until I went to this house for the hundredth
time during freshman year.
Why can t you cook like my sister?! my uncle exclaimed at his wife as he was eating
the soup that my aunt cooked. I was a freshman in highschool when I heard my uncle
say this. No one seemed to be phased by what my uncle said, besides me. I was
infuriated, bothered, and confused because no one said anything to my disrespectful
uncle. My vast family heard him, but it was as if this comment was a normal thing to hear.

It s different, and blabbed on for about three minutes.
I rudely spat back, Why do you guys claim to be modern and hip when your logic is
still in Vietnam? Why do you all enforce gender roles? Why do you all care more about
the material side of each other and not the inside? You all try so hard to impress each
other, but we are all family and that s pathetic.
My family did not reply to this and stared at me with disbelief. A few of my younger
aunts and uncles looked proud of me. However, the older relatives looked disappointed
in me. My dad told me to go downstairs and think about what I have said.
As I headed downstairs I could hear hon lao being said, which means disrespectful. I
knew that I was being a brat. I talked back to the people feeding me. However, I was
honestly quite satisfied with what I said, even if it was petty and disrespectful. What I
said was not the way how to deal with how I was feeling, but I said what was on my
mind, which is something that I never
Safe Online Dating
McMullen, Laura. Tips for Safe and Healthy Online Dating. usnews.com. 2013
In a world where technology has taken over, it s no surprise that online dating has
become so popular. According to the article I read, and based off of a study they quoted
from Psychological Science in the Public Interest, nearly 25 million people searched for
love in just one month in 2011. While online dating has continued to be on the rise and a
popular form of meeting new people in an ever evolving world of technology, there are
several safety concerns. Most of the concerns and warnings are directed at women, but
online dating can be just as unsafe for men. One of the most important things to not do is
share your personal information. Often, you may unintentionally ... Show more content

All of these are mentioned in the article, and I agree with each of their suggestions.
Starting with setting expectations, it s important to know what you want and what
you are looking for and to find someone with the same expectations. If you want a
serious relationship and the person is avoiding meeting or always busy, then he/she is
probably not the one for you. This according to the article could also be a sign you are
being set up for a scam. If you feel something is off about the person, trust your
intuition, more than likely you are right. Dating offline can produce just as many bad
dates, creeps, spammers, and even good guys as online dating. It really is no different
with online dating or offline dating, if something feels off it most likely is. Harassing
texts, emails, or even being followed are not ok in either form of dating and should be
dealt with seriously. Most importantly in my opinion is if you decide to meet up, do it
in a safe place. Provide your own transportation and never accept a ride from someone
you are meeting for the first time. Always tell your friends or someone close where you
are going and who you will be with, even provide pictures. Another good idea, with the
world of technology, is to share your location on your phone with someone.
Informative Essay On Artistic Gymnastics
Stick It
Have you ever wanted to feel like you are flying? Artistic gymnastics is a good sport to
take part in because it improves your strength, flexibility, coordination and balance, gives
you the chance to build great relationships with others, and you will often experience the
feeling of flying. There are five types of gymnastics, artistic, rhythmic, acrobatic,
trampoline and tumbling, and aerobic, but artistic is the most popular. A gymnast will be
taught a variety of skills from a kip on the uneven bars to a Yurchenko on vault. Artistic
gymnastics can often be thought of as an individual sport because gymnasts win
individual awards and perform routines alone, but it is a team sport. Similar to most other

The current format for an artistic gymnastics team is four three three, which means
there are four gymnasts on the team, only three compete in each event and only those
three scores count. In the team finals, gymnasts compete with their team and perform
in all four events. Being part of a team is very important to the mental side of
gymnastics. During competitions, a gymnast will always have her team with her to
cheer her on. Having positive reinforcements from team members will improve the
gymnasts overall performance. If a gymnast is becoming discouraged while trying to
get a new skill, words of encouragement for teammates can make it easier for the
gymnast to achieve the skills. Another relationship in a gymnastics atmosphere is
rivals. A gymnast will almost always have a rival during , whether this it be a single
person or an entire club. Gymnasts also usually have a great relationship with their
coach, especially if they have been coached by the same person for years. Having strong
bonds with teammates and coaches really benefits the total performance of a gymnast, in

Behind The Formaldehyde Curtain And The Fear Of Dying
By...
No one can escape death. It s one of so few unavoidable certainties in our lives and has
held an important position in every human culture since time immemorial. Of course, this
position has is different from culture to culture, and shifts over time. This is particularly
evident in western culture. The shift is discussed at length in two essays: Behind the
Formaldehyde Curtain by Jessica Mitford, and The Fear of Dying by Elisabeth KГјbler
Ross. Both explore different aspects of these themes Mitford s essay being deconstruction
of a the uniquely North American process of embalming, and KГјbler Ross being an
indictment of the clinical depersonalization of contemporary western attitudes toward
death. Each utilize many different tools as writers, such as rhetorical modes. Rhetorical
modes they share are exemplification, description, and compare and contrast.
Exemplification is rhetorical mode in which a writer will illustrate their point by
providing multiple pieces of evidence that support their thesis. KГјbler Ross opening
paragraph is written entirely in the exemplification rhetorical mode. She lists the ways
many ancient cultures treat corpses: they re bad; something to be feared. Hebrews
regarded dead bodies as unclean; Native Americans shot arrows into the air to keep evil
spirits away when a person died. (KГјbler Ross, 1969, Pg 206) These examples serve to
provide evidence as to how modern willful blindness to the fact of death are nothing new,
that fear of death
Summary Of Larry Fondation s Deportation At Breakfast
Larry Fondation s Deportation at Breakfast was written in 1991. The history behind the
story is the setting of the story, the all American diner, which is an important cultural
institution. In 1872, Walter Scott founded the first American diner in the form of a horse
drawn wagon offering coffee, sandwiches, and other snacks to employees of the
Providence Journal and other workers. Lunch wagons became widespread in urban
centers of the Northeast throughout the latter part of the nineteenth century and into the
early twentieth century, when vendors began moving their business from wagons to
prefabricated buildings. Many of today s diners, located all over the country but
particularly in the Northeast, retain the architectural features of the classic diner. Many
also offer huge menus, large portions, bottomless cups of coffee, and round the clock
hours. In contrast, John Updikes A P was written in 1961. The 1950s were a decade of
prosperity for the United... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the narrator in Deportation at Breakfast stated that at the time, business
was quiet and that it was still early not yet seven thirty. Moreover, in A P, Sammy
stated that the store s pretty empty, it being Thursday afternoon. The second similarity
between each literary work was that action was taken when the narrator s perceived it
was necessary. For example, the narrator in Deportation at Breakfast states that after
some hesitation, I got up from my red swivel stool and went behind the counter after
Javier was taken out of the restaurant. Furthermore, Sammy says I quit to Lengel as the
girls are getting ready to leave. The final way in which the stories intertwine is that each
character lost his job and was replaced. For example, when Javier was taken out of the
restaurant, the narrator took his place. Additionally, after Sammy quit his job, Lengel

Imagery In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
A short story written by James Hurst, The Scarlet Ibis, tells the story of the narrator
and his younger brother who he called Doodle. Throughout the story, the narrator
expresses guilt because his whole family never believed his brother would survive
long after childbirth. He even planned to kill him once. In the future, he would also
decide to teach him to walk simply because he was embarrassed about having a sibling
who couldn t fulfill his purpose as a typical brother. Imagery is the use of language to
represent objects, acts, feelings, thoughts, ideas, states of mind and any sensory or
extrasensory experience (Trombley 5). James Hurstuses vivid imagery throughout the text
to aid the reader s understanding of the setting and how... Show more content on

knew, Old Woman Swamp. I pulled the go cart through the saw tooth fern, down into
the green dimness where the palmetto fronds whispered by the stream. I lifted him out
and set him down in the soft rubber grass by a tall pine (Hurst 2). The swamp is a
central setting in the story because it s where Doodle and the narrator spend a lot of time
together but also where they work to help Doodle learn to walk. Hurst uses such brilliant
imagery so the reader can imagine the environment in his mind and connect it to the
important events occurring in the text. But, Hurt s description of the scarlet ibis is perhaps
the most meaningful use of imagery in his short story. Unfortunately, the bird dies right
in front of the narrator, Doodle, and their parents. Yet, ...death did not mar its grace,
for it lay on the earth like a broken vase of red flowers, and we stood around it, awed by
its exotic beauty (Hurst 5). At the end of the story, the narrator leaves Doodle all on his

Pitbulls Should Be Banned Essay

Pit bulls are a very misunderstood dog breed, and there are a lot more breeds out there
that are accused of all the same circumstances that pit bulls have. According to a
publisher for the Veterinary Medical Association over the last 20 years dog bites are rare
and the percentage for pit bull type dog breed bites are 7 percent. Also, for pit bull type
mixes are only 4 percent. I believe that dog bites are not a factor in any breed source of
information, any bite will hurt, and any dog can bite. Pit bulls are a very loyal dog
breed, yes they will protect but, they are curious about surroundings and their family.
Just like all mothers and fathers are of their children! When owning a pit bull, you are
their human, and as much as people say they are guard dogs, they are just as much a
loving dog who wouldn t hurt a fly. There are tons of myths around the world about
dog breeds and a big one is the aggression of the pit bull breed. Aggression only comes
from two things, poorly bred or trained to attack on command or for intruders. Every
dog is their own individual just like us humans. We all will be judged, but we all tend
to find a way to forgive, forget, and to love again. Pit bulls are the biggest examples of
forgiveness and learning

Leadership Is Essential For Organisational Development
Introduction:
Leadership is vital for organisational development. A complex group of theories and
constructs in addition to a spectrum of associated traits, skills and behaviour have been
employed to describe leadership. This has generated an on going debate amongst
academics regarding the suitable definition for leadership including the appropriate
approaches to participating in and learning about leadership (O Connell: 2014).
According to Katz and Kahn (1978) cited in Gronn (2008), leadership is described as the
influence by any individual in an organisation over significant issues aimed at
organisational effectiveness. Organisations are investing in leadership development as
they perceive effective leadership as a competitive advantage ... Show more content on

However research by Stogdill (1948) as cited in (Iszatt White Saunders: 2014, p. 57)
revealed that possessing certain traits alone would not make a person a leader, rather the
situations play a vital part in an individual s ability to exhibit leadership along with their
innate characteristics.
Other approaches of leadership include transactional and transformational leadership
approaches. Transaction leadership depicts the cohesion between the leaders and the
followers based on rewarding or exchanging something of value to motivate the followers
in achieving the leader s goals. Here the focus is more on task orientation and short term
objectives. In contrast, transformational leadership is laid on the foundation of raising
awareness on moral values and ethical issues amongst followers by garnering their
support in achieving institutional reformation. Such leadership could act as a catalyst by
empowering the followers in accomplishing the organisational vision. (Iszatt White
Saunders: 2014). However, Bolden (2005) asserts that although individual leaders go to
influence and motivate followers, they could foster a feeling of dependency amongst
them which might not be in the best interest of the organisation.
The above mentioned approaches highlight the belief that leadership is the domain of a
single individual who possess certain traits or has capability to display leadership
qualities in certain situations. However distributed approach to leadership

intellectual disability. Intellectual disability in the chapter has multiple definitions and
one is that it is define as a disability characterize by both intellectual functioning and
adaptive behavior such as, social and adaptive skills. To classify and a person with
intellectual disability you need to look at various dimension of human functioning, which
are intellectual abilities, adaptive behavior, health, participation and context. There are
still many challenges on to what the definition of intellectual is and how to measure
intellectual disability. There has been many test n to measure the student s intelligence,

Power, Authority, And Authority
Power and authority organize people in bureaucratic structures. The hierarchical structure
of these organizations dictates the scope of authority that each individual has relative to
their respective position. Standardized rules, methods, and procedures within the
bureaucratic structure stimulate strict discipline as an essential element for success. The
organizations are impersonal places to work and do not conform to the needs of the
workers. Historically, power and authority in bureaucratic structures has limited
individual personal decision making, restricted individual opportunities for creativity,
denied individual opportunity to develop a sense of self and restricted the potential for
diversity in the workplace in public administration.
Power and authority are different concepts; however, the terms function reciprocally in
the bureaucratic structure of an organization. The organization s power is centered at the
top and the authority flows from the top down through ordered levels of management:
from senior executives to regional managers to departmental managers and supervisors
who work with the frontline employees. Authority and control from different levels of
hierarchy within a bureaucratic structure are defining to the entire purpose of the
organization. All departments have organizational charts, and everyone understands who
is in charge and their responsibilities. Job descriptions are detailed and specialized and
management monitors outcomes, which in turn

The EPA set a secondary standard for pH, meaning it is not mandatory (EPA 2017b).
Water with a pH of below 6.5 tends to have a bitter metallic taste and lead to corrosion

Lgbt Community And The Community
The main topic of the paper will be discussing about the LGBT community or, also
known as the GLBT community, which is defined as a group of lesbians, gays,
bisexuals, and transgenders. The LGBT community organizes a lot of support and
movement for civil rights all around the world, for example, parades. The paper in mind
for this integrative project will be discussing about how North Americans became more
approachable to be acceptant towards the LGBTcommunity mainly concentrating in
Canada and the United States. This topic is relevant for the world we live in since; the
LGBT community is a big part of our culture and these individuals still needs to be heard
from this day. They are human beings just like heterosexual people, yet they... Show more

The concept of homophobia/biphobia/transphobia will be relevant to the research
since it will further explain why and how other s develop these phobias and will allow
in depth to understand people s behaviour towards this community. History defines as
the study of past events and past key characters . The concepts reinforced in this
discipline will be the key events that altered the way individuals saw the LGBT
community, and key characters who changed the way people perceived the LGBT
community. These issues will help to understand the improvement and diminishment
with key events and key characters from the past six decades. It is in fact true, North
Americans societal attitudes have increased according to researches, that society is
more accepting toward the LGBT community. However, only 19% from the LGBT
community says there is a lot of social acceptance in our current world. Whereas a lot
of the people from this group says they still have been rejected by their family and
been called by slurs or jokes. However, the media has been working a lot more into
spreading the message of the acceptance and equality amongst this discriminated
community. Brands and medias (television shows, movies, reality shows) have been
including people from the LGBT community in their work, for example, Disney kids TV
shows now show same sex parents and American Eagle includes gay couples and
heterosexual couples in their commercials. This paper
The Is The Static Procedure Of A.a Essay
This brief look into A.A will discuss whether or not the static procedures of A.A. are
effective, and even if they are, is there room for growth in the treatment methods of
A.A.? To find these answers we must begin with the basics, taking a look into the
details of A.A. There will be a review of a typical A.A. meeting discussing the inclusion
and exclusion criteria of the program, addressing the length of treatment, and the typical
flow of session. This analysis will also examine research findings to determine the
efficacy of the A.A. Twelve Step program. In addition, further exploration concerning the
lack of research; criticisms of religious connotation, sexism, and the complexities of
addiction will demonstrate whether or not the A.A. program is in need of further
development.
The Efficacy of Alcoholics AnonymousA.A. (Alcoholics Anonymous), the beginning of
the Twelve Step recovery format, has been in operation since 1935 (Galanter, 2014).
From the time when it first began, to the year 2014, A.A. has reportedly grown to
approximately two million members worldwide, with an estimated 200,000 weekly
meetings (Galanter, 2014). Over the course eighty years later, the foundational
methodologies of A.A. have, for the most part, remained the same. This brief look into
A.A will discuss whether or not the static procedures of A.A. are effective, and even if
they are, is there room for growth in the treatment methods of A.A.? To find these
answers we must begin with
Legal Drinking Age In The Untied States
The legal drinking age in the Untied States is 21. However, the legal drinking age
wasn t always 21 in the United States. Not until Congress passed the National
Minimum drinking Age Act in 1984. This law basically stated that if a state lowers its
legal drinking age below 21, Congress would take 10 percent of the state s federal
highway funds. With this law in affect, by 1988 all states had set the legal drinking ageto
21. In my opinion, if the Untied States would legalize the drinking age to 18, there
would be less drunk teens because they wouldn t abuse alcohol the minute they get a
moment too. All citizens already know that 18 year olds drink behind our backs.
Michelle Minton stated that A 2009 study by the National Institute on Drug... Show more

Parties include underage drinking, with that being said, they abuse the amount of
alcohol because they re not old enough to buy it themselves. It does more harm then
good. Teenagers end up driving back home drunk and getting into car accidents. If the
drinking age were lowered to 18, we wouldn t have as many problems. There would
still be parties and drinking but you could rest your head a little knowing that they have
freedom to drink and that freedom will not let them abuse drinking. Minton quoted
However, the data indicate that the 21 minimum drinking age has not only done zero
good, it may have done harm. When any of us are told we aren t allowed to do
something, that s when we want to do it even more.
Turning 18 brings you a step closer to adulthood. It prepares you for the years coming.
Minton said that In addition, an individual legally enjoys nearly all other rights of
adulthood upon turning 18 including the rights to vote, get married and sign contracts.
You are already doing so much why should the privilege of drinking be held back? It
only makes teenagers curious for something they can t have.
In the end, I believe that if the United States view 18 year olds as adults when it comes
to voting and marriage, then they should be viewed as adults when it comes to
drinking too. If 18 year olds are allowed to put their lives at risk for our nation, then
why shouldn t they be viewed as old enough to buy and enjoy
Community Essay
Community
The point that community has an important effect on the shaping of a person s character
is key in both Pythia Peay s essay, Soul Searching and Winona LaDuke s interview
transcribed in essay form entitled, Reclaiming Culture and the Land: Motherhood and the
Politics of Sustaining Community . The two authors present ideas, similar and different,
of what it means to live in and be a part of community. Through examining these two
essays, summarizing and synthesizing, we can gain a better understanding of what
community is and how it affects those within it.
Pythia Peay explains that for everywhere that she has resided, each place had a unique
effect on her character. Each of the five cities in which she has ... Show more content on

She goes on to talk of other aspects of her community such as politics and women s roles
but stays on the point that her community has a very important part in shaping her
character and the character of those around her. Then she goes on to point out that the
separation of political and cultural and spiritual is an artificial separation that s
articulated by industrial society (10). LaDuke was raised with a different sense of values
than most Americans and goes on to describe her upbringing. She notes that she was
raised with little appreciation for American culture and that consumerism, in part, is
responsible for cultural destruction. Her main idea lies in the difference between the
average American community and the way she lives in her Native community at White
Earth. She points out the down side to the American community, such as consumerism
and deculturalizing of people, and tells of some of the values that her Native community
has installed upon her and her children, like respect and community, which is really her
main idea.
Both of these essays point out how community shapes character. In Peay s essay she
concentrates on community as ones surroundings. She would consider community as the
city in which one lives. LaDuke is more concerned with community as a person s ideals
or way of life. Both authors imply that a person s sense of place provokes a
Shortcomings And Weaknesses Of The Mazars Report
What are the shortcomings/weaknesses that you are seeing in integrated reporting in
general (including the Mazars Report)?
From the Mazars Report, there is some shortcoming of integrated reporting (IR) but
these shortcoming are potential to be improved to be a better one as IR is a process of
continuation and improvement of current reporting approaches. Following are the
shortcomings of IR from the Mazars Report:
Risk and opportunities can be identified and explained, however, it is lack of details in
analysis and mitigation measures.
In the event that vital goals are frequently all around portrayed in various time scales, the
connection with resources allocation could be better in the IR.
The integrated performance indicators is weak in term of publication.
Complexity and lack of clarity has pointed out by Welch (2013), Associated of
Chartered Certified Accountants head of policy, as a potential weakness of IR. Initial
objective of IR is to reduce complexity and increase clarity; however, it might distort the
objective of IR while a set of non financial data/information have been recommended to
embed to the report, and it could lead to information overload in the report. Moreover, a

My Favorite Quote Analysis
My favorite quote will always be by Sappho in which she says, Someone, I tell you, in
another time will remember us. She was right. She s remembered for being a gay poet
and is immortalized despite a lot of her works not being found completely. It s one of
my favorite quotes because identifying as a nonbinary queer person who also likes
girls, I can relate to Sappho a lot when she writes about her desire for love and personal
heartbreaks. This quote also brings me ease as even in another time someone will still
remember me. I think we all want to leave a legacy of some sort, and for me I want my
legacy to be centered around my experience and accomplishments as an American born
Punjabi artist and social activist, who was also highly active in the LGBTQ+
community. I want someone to remember me because it is a vicious cycle that people
of color and members of the color in the LGBTQ+ community get forgotten in history.
History is white washed. But the idea that I will do enough in my life to be
remembered in some shape or form, reminds me that my efforts and failures as a
Punjabi artist and social activist are just part of a legacy I am starting.
Moving on, my strength and determination did not magically appear one day. I had a
lot of amazing people who are a part of my support network who helped show me what
healthy self love and growth is supposed to be. One of the people I will be highlighting
is my AP English teacher. Candice Ligator, was one of the best, and one of my favorite
teachers in my high school career. She was a big part of my support system when it
came to being a trans and queer student who had a lot of family issues. She was also a
big inspiration to me as she told us stories full of struggles growing as a teacher. She
talked about how starting off as a teacher at first made her cry every night, showing
me that it takes persistence to be adept in a profession. Her choices on the pieces of
literature she taught were engaging as they touched upon feminism, gay rights, and
race. This allowed me to explore both my interest in writing and in social justice.
Reading about personal experiences from Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, and Ralph Ellison
was inspiring as it allowed me to see that I can

Scientific name: Leishmania in humans called Leishmaniasis
Common name: Leishmania Spp.
Taxonomic Classification: Genus of trypanosomes
Complete life cycle: Human stages: 1) Sand fly injects promastigotes into the skin during

the chronic wasting that can occur with leishmaniasis, it is important to provide a good

Due to trouble obtaining certain drugs in the United States, treatment is recommended

Relapses are common when treatment stops. Complete cures are rare but survival

The Nature Of Information That Must Be Displayed By...
Objective This research will determine the nature of information that must be displayed
by computer in order to enhance human insight problem solving in ISR and C2
applications. Insight problem solving refers to the sudden realization of a successful
problem solution, typically involving a non routine problem, following an impasse the
time period when no solution seemed obvious. Virtually all of us have experienced
insight at some time in our lives, including world class problem solving by famous
scientists and mathematicians (Wallas, 1926). Insight can be seen as a form of
intellectual ability. That insight can occur with important real world problem solving
makes its potential enhancement all the more critical for ISR and C2 applications
because non routine problem solving is the norm (e.g., A2AD situations). Insight was
selected for study because it possesses several key attributes: (1) insight involves
sensemaking (Patterson Eggleston, under review), a precursor to successful decision
making; (2) insight scales to the real world and is not just a laboratory phenomenon
(Wallas, 1926); and (3) insight in the laboratory can be primed via certain cues made
faster and more accurate (e.g., Broderbauer, Huemer Riffert, 2013; Maier, 1931). Despite
these attributes, virtually nothing is known about how insight might be primed in
analysts in real world ISR and C2 situations. Since insight is a form of intellectual ability,
insight priming is intelligence amplification. I

We believe it is important to capitalize on the bullish market we are currently in, but are
worried this may not continue in the long run. Due to this, we chose 8 stocks that were a
mix of diversified value and growth stocks.
Investment Strategy
The investment style of an investor who wants to capitalize on favorable current market
conditions, but also not be overly bullish and lack protection if the market corrects into a

McDonald s, IBM, Hershey, TechTarget, and Willdan Group.
Section 2. The Securities
Activision, IBM, and TechTarget
Section 2.1 Sector Outlook: Technology We are slightly bullish in the technology
sector, because of this we have chosen three stocks in this sector. We feel comfortable
with this because of the overall size and growth of the technology sector. Our
companies in the technology industry specialize in the research and development and
the distribution of technologically based goods and/or services. This industry is also
producing new and innovating items which makes it a prime choice for investors. In
2016, the tech industry generated market sales of about $2.9 trillion and it expected to
grow by 4.7% in 2017 (Bartels, 2016).

The Pros And Cons Of Human Gene Therapy
Human gene therapy is when genetic material is introduced into human cells to treat a
genetic disease. Instead of traditionally treating the symptoms, gene therapy aims to treat
the disease s root cause by directly altering genes and correcting defects. Therefore, gene
therapy is only viable for certain diseases. Disorders from mutations in single genes are
the most treatable, whereas disorders that involve many genes and environmental factors
are trickier.
There are two types of gene therapy: somatic gene therapy (SGT) and germline gene
therapy (GGT). SGT involves treating a single individual by transferring therapeutic
genes into somatic cells, most commonly bone marrow. GGT inserts genes into
reproductive cells or embryos to fix genetic defects in the germ line. In other words, the
genetic makeup of future generations is changed to prevent the recurrence of certain
genetic disorders. Although gene therapy as a whole is controversial, germline gene
therapy especially raises ethical concerns because it is capable of manipulating the
human genome of a germ line. First, the risk is without the consent of future generations,
and second, it may dangerously lead to genetic enhancement. Genetic enhancement has
its own set of ethical issues, ranging from eugenics and social discrimination to messing
with nature. Therefore, the potential consequences of gene therapy have raised a hotly
contested bioethical question of whether gene therapy should be allowed in the future.

The Myers Briggs Personality Test
We all are created equally yet we all uniquely different. Our culture, lifestyle, habits,
family and life experiences shape us into who we are and why we do some of the
things we do. With these differences in us, conflicts are bound to happen with any
formed relationship we have between family and co workers. I believe this is the
reason, amongst others, why the Myers Briggs personality test was created; to
understand diversity and help us learn and become better individuals to the world at
large. This paper evaluates the results of my Myers Briggs test and how it applies in my
personal life and career. Furthermore, I discuss what I have learned and how it it would
benefit me in the future. пѓјNeeds work The Myers Briggs personality test is designed to
categorize human personality and behavior. Based on Carl Jung s theory, Katherine
C. Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers developed this process which
includes 16 personality types to help people understand their psychological personality
type (The Myers Briggs Foundation, 2016). Each personality type is represented by
four letters, and the letters are indicators of which category of preference an individual
fall into. Step I: The Result After taking the personality test, my result turned out to be
ESFJ. ESFJ stands for Extravert, Sensing, Feeling and Judging respectively. This
personality type is also known as the caregivers or the providers. Below is a summary of
the test result. According to the test, I
Lab Report On Catalase
Catalase lab background
The question being answered by these experiments is: How do different conditions
affect the productivity of enzymes? Enzymes are produced by cells and they act as
catalysts, which means they are organic molecules that speed up chemical reactions. How
effectively they work depends on the conditions they are in, such as level of temperature,
pH level, substrate concentration, and salt concentration. In these experiments, Catalase
will be placed in different conditions with hydrogen peroxide. How active the enzyme is
in these different conditions will be measured by the amount of oxygen gas being
produced. A very high increase in oxygen will indicate a high reaction rate and a low
production of oxygen will show that there is a low reaction rate. On the other hand, if
there is no change in the level of oxygen, it will indicate that the Catalase is denatured
and is no longer functioning.
In temperature, when it increases, it is expected that the activity of Catalase will also
increase up to a certain temperature. After a certain degree, it is expected that the
activity of Catalase will slow down and eventually come to stop. Similarly, it is
expected that more concentration of substrates will lead to higher activity of Catalase up
to a certain concentration level. Past that certain level, the productivity of the enzyme
will stop. On the other hand, for pH and salt concentration level, it is expected that too
low or too high in either variable will lead to
Comparing The Individual Holdings Of My 10 Stocks With
The...
1.Comparing the individual holdings of my 10 stocks with the portfolio as a whole,
either strategy would yield me positive returns. However, diversification is shown to be
not as successful, as there are more unwanted factors. Three of my individual holdings
(FIX, UNH, and HUBG) were shown to have large standard deviations, in both monthly
and annually, which means that all three stocks have high historical volatilities, and are
much riskier when bought individually compared to diversified portfolio. However,
average monthly and annual returns of all individual stocks, with the exception of Ethan
Allen Interiors Inc. (ETH), are shown to be higher than the average returns for the
portfolio as a whole, meaning if I were to invest individually in the stocks, I would most
likely yield a much greater return. Also, looking at the coefficient of Variance (CV), the
portfolio appeared to have a much higher CV than each individual stock, suggesting
higher riskper return. Due to these factors mentioned, I feel that the portfolio is better to
be hold individually as 9 out of 10 stocks show high numbers of returns.
Note: Due to the negative return for Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. (ETH) stock, CV for this
holding is negative, thus should be ruled out as this could be a misleading indicator.
2.Tracking error (active return) is the difference between portfolio and the benchmark (in
our case, S P500). It is calculated by subtracting the average return on benchmark (S
P500) to the

  • 2. Storytelling and Its Relevance Storytelling and its relevance Storytelling is, as a concept, built upon the fundamental question of why. From the dawn of civilization to the marketing activities of a silicon valley technology company, the success of every endeavor in between can be traced to the resolution of this fundamental question. Storytelling is one of the few human traits that are truly universal across culture and through all of known history, writes Jeremy Hsu for Scientific American . Anthropologists find evidence of folktales everywhere in ancient cultures, written in Sanskrit, Latin, Greek, Chinese, Egyptian and Sumerian. People in societies of all types weave narratives, from oral storytellers in hunter gatherer tribes to the millions of writers churning out books, television shows and movies. In his book The Triumph of Narrative, Robert Fulford writes about the historical significance of narratives and their impact on culture through time and generations. When ancient man s crop failed, for example, he wanted to know why. To the non scientific mind, the most compelling explanations arose in the form of religion; crops failed because the gods were unhappy and required tribute. The power of these stories, as mentioned, lies in the fact that on some level in the consciousness of the audience they make sense they resolve the question of why and provide explanation for the happenings around the brain. The story from Rapunzel to War and Peace is one of the basic tools invented by the
  • 3. Account for the Different Physical Properties and Uses of... Diamond is a giant covalent network structure, having each Carbon atom sharing electrons with four other Carbon atoms, therefore having four single covalent bonds formed. These Carbon covalent bonds are extremely strong and account for two of diamond s most prominent physical properties among all elements, hardness and a high melting point. Diamond has a high melting point due to the fact that diamond is a covalent lattice, hence, melting this covalent lattice involves breaking many strong covalent bonds. This melting process requires a large amount of energy and, as a result, melting diamond requires a high temperature, approximately around 35500C. Having strong covalent bonds, diamond also has a high level of hardness due to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It are these properties which allow graphite to be used to draw with (using a pencil), as the friction against weak intermolecular forces on paper causes layers of graphite to rub off onto the paper. It is this layered structure and the weak bonding between the sheets that determines the soft slippery feel of graphite, thus, creating graphite s self lubricating property. Being used a lubricant, graphite can be used at very high or low temperatures for many different works, such as: steelmaking, wire die extrusion lubricant, gear lubricant for mining machinery and to lubricate locks. While natural graphite can be used in zinc carbon batteries in electric motor brushes and other specific works. From all of these uses, graphite also has the ability to conduct electricity, and we can the reason as to why when looking at the electron arrangement in graphite. As each Carbon atom bonds to three other Carbon atoms, there is a fourth electron remaining in the bonding level. These remaining electrons in each Carbon atom form into a sea of delocalised electrons, moving around the whole sheet of atoms in the one layer. It is the ability of these delocalised electrons to move freely through their own Carbon layer, hence, making graphite a good conductor of electricity. Being a good conductor of electricity graphite, can be used as electrodes to an arc lamp and to carry the electricity that heats electric arc furnaces. Due to graphite s layered structure,
  • 4. Essay about City Council Meetings Observations The Dahlonega City Hall was crowded on the evening of March 1st 2010. The seats were full, except for at the very front, and the standing room was filled almost out the door. The crowd, mostly made up of students, leaned in to hear as the voices of the City Council members faded in and out of the faltering sound system. The six City Council members and the mayorsat along a bench as if they were the judges at a hearing. Because of the ongoing discussions and the crowd, I thought I had arrived a few minutes late; but I was able to find a seat in the front two rows. Despite how packed the small room was there were plenty of empty seats in the front. I had thought the meeting was well on its way by the way conversation was going and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then another Council member would second the movement if they agreed. Following the movement being seconded a vote would follow to confirm if the movement was confirmed or denied. Several local business owners stood up throughout the meeting asking for variances in local laws for construction on their buildings. One requested to not be required to add parking spaces despite the fact that he was adding square footage to his restaurant. The Dahlonega City laws determine the number of required parking spaces for a business by square footage. However what the business owner was adding, an indoor stairway and a landing for the hostess to greet in, would not affect the number of people that could be seated in the building. The council ultimately said that he could only put in half the number of required spots. Another business owner stood and requested a similar variance in the law but was adding office space to the rear of their building instead of a stairway and landing. Again he wanted to not have to provide extra parking for the space since it was not going to be used commercially, but because he mentioned a function that was not stated on the original business plan, the request was tabled. Following the portion of the meeting where the public could bring things to the table, the Council continued with its agenda. Multiple departments came and gave reports on what they were doing and their progress. Including
  • 5. Toronto Police s Budget Cuts Problem The major problem with the Toronto Police s budget cuts are that they plan to freeze hiring for three years. This has caused major burnout rates and a reduction in moral in many officers (Fox, 2017). The plan initiated by the Toronto Police this January is one looking at a change to police culture as well as budget reduction. The hiring freeze is a product of the budget, the Toronto Police Service has hit the 1 billion mark as of this year, exceeding any budget ever had in the past (Powell, 2016). The Toronto police have made it their goal to not go over this cap and are doing everything in their power to cut costs. One of the ways they plan on doing this is through a 3 year hiring freeze of all civilian and new cadets (Lee Shanok, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A prominent example is that of the privatization of Hydro One. Premier Kathleen Wynne wants to build $29 billion worth of new transit, roads and bridges over the next 10 years, and needs a way to pay for it(Morrow, 2015). In order to find more money, she has decided to sell off government assets (Morrow, 2015). This takes them out of the budget thus reducing expenditures as well as brings in money to be sued on other aspects of government. This is the same to Toronto removing the agencies not directly related to policing. It will provide more money to the force and remove the expenses that came along with harbouring those agencies. As Sappington and Stiglitz (1987) s fundamental Irrelevance Theorem explains, privatization may be, under some conditions, an optimal solution to the delegation problem (Martimort,

Many of my relatives and I were staying at my uncle s mansion in Happy Valley Happy Valley is the Beverly Hills of Oregon. There were over thirty five of my relatives in Oregon at the time and most of the relatives from California were staying at the mansion. I never fully understood how materialistic my familywas until I went to this house for the hundredth time during freshman year. Why can t you cook like my sister?! my uncle exclaimed at his wife as he was eating the soup that my aunt cooked. I was a freshman in highschool when I heard my uncle say this. Tips for Safe and Healthy Online Dating. usnews.com. 2013 In a world where technology has taken over, it s no surprise that online dating has become so popular. According to the article I read, and based off of a study they quoted from Psychological Science in the Public Interest, nearly 25 million people searched for love in just one month in 2011. While online dating has continued to be on the rise and a popular form of meeting new people in an ever evolving world of technology, there are several safety concerns. Most of the concerns and warnings are directed at women, but online dating can be just as unsafe for men. One of the most important things to not do is share your personal information. Often, you may unintentionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of these are mentioned in the article, and I agree with each of their suggestions. Starting with setting expectations, it s important to know what you want and what you are looking for and to find someone with the same expectations. If you want a serious relationship and the person is avoiding meeting or always busy, then he/she is probably not the one for you. This according to the article could also be a sign you are being set up for a scam. If you feel something is off about the person, trust your intuition, more than likely you are right. Dating offline can produce just as many bad dates, creeps, spammers, and even good guys as online dating. It really is no different with online dating or offline dating, if something feels off it most likely is. Harassing texts, emails, or even being followed are not ok in either form of dating and should be dealt with seriously. Most importantly in my opinion is if you decide to meet up, do it in a safe place. Provide your own transportation and never accept a ride from someone you are meeting for the first time. Always tell your friends or someone close where you are going and who you will be with, even provide pictures. Another good idea, with the world of technology, is to share your location on your phone with someone.

During competitions, a gymnast will always have her team with her to cheer her on. Having positive reinforcements from team members will improve the gymnasts overall performance. If a gymnast is becoming discouraged while trying to get a new skill, words of encouragement for teammates can make it easier for the gymnast to achieve the skills. It s one of so few unavoidable certainties in our lives and has held an important position in every human culture since time immemorial. Of course, this position has is different from culture to culture, and shifts over time. This is particularly evident in western culture. The shift is discussed at length in two essays: Behind the Formaldehyde Curtain by Jessica Mitford, and The Fear of Dying by Elisabeth KГјbler Ross. Both explore different aspects of these themes Mitford s essay being deconstruction of a the uniquely North American process of embalming, and KГјbler Ross being an indictment of the clinical depersonalization of contemporary western attitudes toward death. Each utilize many different tools as writers, such as rhetorical modes. Rhetorical modes they share are exemplification, description, and compare and contrast. Exemplification is rhetorical mode in which a writer will illustrate their point by providing multiple pieces of evidence that support their thesis. KГјbler Ross opening paragraph is written entirely in the exemplification rhetorical mode. She lists the ways many ancient cultures treat corpses: they re bad; something to be feared. Hebrews regarded dead bodies as unclean; Native Americans shot arrows into the air to keep evil spirits away when a person died. (KГјbler Ross, 1969, Pg 206) These examples serve to provide evidence as to how modern willful blindness to the fact of death are nothing new, that fear of death

Lunch wagons became widespread in urban centers of the Northeast throughout the latter part of the nineteenth century and into the early twentieth century, when vendors began moving their business from wagons to prefabricated buildings. A complex group of theories and constructs in addition to a spectrum of associated traits, skills and behaviour have been employed to describe leadership. This has generated an on going debate amongst academics regarding the suitable definition for leadership including the appropriate approaches to participating in and learning about leadership (O Connell: 2014). However research by Stogdill (1948) as cited in (Iszatt White Saunders: 2014, p. 57) revealed that possessing certain traits alone would not make a person a leader, rather the situations play a vital part in an individual s ability to exhibit leadership along with their innate characteristics. Other approaches of leadership include transactional and transformational leadership approaches. Transaction leadership depicts the cohesion between the leaders and the followers based on rewarding or exchanging something of value to motivate the followers in achieving the leader s goals. Here the focus is more on task orientation and short term objectives. In contrast, transformational leadership is laid on the foundation of raising awareness on moral values and ethical issues amongst followers by garnering their support in achieving institutional reformation. Such leadership could act as a catalyst by empowering the followers in accomplishing the organisational vision. (Iszatt White Saunders: 2014). However, Bolden (2005) asserts that although individual leaders go to influence and motivate followers, they could foster a feeling of dependency amongst them which might not be in the best interest of the organisation. The above mentioned approaches highlight the belief that leadership is the domain of a single individual who possess certain traits or has capability to display leadership qualities in certain situations. The hierarchical structure of these organizations dictates the scope of authority that each individual has relative to their respective position. Standardized rules, methods, and procedures within the bureaucratic structure stimulate strict discipline as an essential element for success. I think we all want to leave a legacy of some sort, and for me I want my legacy to be centered around my experience and accomplishments as an American born Punjabi artist and social activist, who was also highly active in the LGBTQ+ community. I want someone to remember me because it is a vicious cycle that people of color and members of the color in the LGBTQ+ community get forgotten in history. History is white washed. But the idea that I will do enough in my life to be remembered in some shape or form, reminds me that my efforts and failures as a Punjabi artist and social activist are just part of a legacy I am starting. Moving on, my strength and determination did not magically appear one day. I had a lot of amazing people who are a part of my support network who helped show me what healthy self love and growth is supposed to be. One of the people I will be highlighting is my AP English teacher. Candice Ligator, was one of the best, and one of my favorite teachers in my high school career. She was a big part of my support system when it came to being a trans and queer student who had a lot of family issues. She was also a big inspiration to me as she told us stories full of struggles growing as a teacher. She talked about how starting off as a teacher at first made her cry every night, showing me that it takes persistence to be adept in a profession. Her choices on the pieces of literature she taught were engaging as they touched upon feminism, gay rights, and race. This allowed me to explore both my interest in writing and in social justice. Reading about personal experiences from Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, and Ralph Ellison was inspiring as it allowed me to see that I can

Leishmaniasis Outline Outline Scientific name: Leishmania in humans called Leishmaniasis Common name: Leishmania Spp. Taxonomic Classification: Genus of trypanosomes Complete life cycle: Human stages: 1) Sand fly injects promastigotes into the skin during a blood meal. Promastigotes are phagocytized by neutrophils that are rapidly recruited to the bite site 3) Infected neutrophils release the parasites which are then consumed by macrophages .4) Promastigotes transform into amastigotes inside macrophages. 5) Amastigotes multiply in cells (including macrophages) of various tissues. Sand Fly Stages 6) Sand fly ingests infected macrophages when it takes a blood meal 7) Ingestion of parasitized cell 8) Amastigotes transform into promastigotes in midgut 9) Promastigotes divide and migrate to the anterior midgut and foregut 10) Sand fly injects promastigotes into the skin during a blood meal. Zoonotic potential: found in parts of the tropics, subtropics, and southern Europe, starting to see some cases in usa. transmission by bite of sand fly that has fed off an infected mammalian host. Treatment should be undertaken on an outpatient basis. Due to the chronic wasting that can occur with leishmaniasis, it is important to provide a good high quality protein diet or a diet appropriate for renal insufficiency if this manifestation. Due to trouble obtaining certain drugs in the United States, treatment is recommended to begin with allopurinol (ZyloricВ®). This drug is efficient and relatively non toxic when used as a maintenance drug. Clinical decrease is often achieved when used alone. Relapses are common when treatment stops. Complete cures are rare but survival occurs in 80% of cases over 4 years if renal failure is not present when treatment is

Objective This research will determine the nature of information that must be displayed by computer in order to enhance human insight problem solving in ISR and C2 applications. Insight problem solving refers to the sudden realization of a successful problem solution, typically involving a non routine problem, following an impasse the time period when no solution seemed obvious. Virtually all of us have experienced insight at some time in our lives, including world class problem solving by famous scientists and mathematicians (Wallas, 1926). Insight can be seen as a form of intellectual ability. That insight can occur with important real world problem solving makes its potential enhancement all the more critical for ISR and C2 applications because non routine problem solving is the norm (e.g., A2AD situations). Insight was selected for study because it possesses several key attributes: (1) insight involves sensemaking (Patterson Eggleston, under review), a precursor to successful decision making; (2) insight scales to the real world and is not just a laboratory phenomenon (Wallas, 1926); and (3) insight in the laboratory can be primed via certain cues made faster and more accurate (e.g., Broderbauer, Huemer Riffert, 2013; Maier, 1931). Despite these attributes, virtually nothing is known about how insight might be primed in analysts in real world ISR and C2 situations. Since insight is a form of intellectual ability, insight priming is intelligence amplification. I

Due to this, we chose 8 stocks that were a mix of diversified value and growth stocks. Investment Strategy The investment style of an investor who wants to capitalize on favorable current market conditions, but also not be overly bullish and lack protection if the market corrects into a downturn. The stocks we chosen to accomplish this are Activision, Braskem SA, Boeing, McDonald s, IBM, Hershey, TechTarget, and Willdan Group. Section 2. The Securities Activision, IBM, and TechTarget Section 2.1 Sector Outlook: Technology We are slightly bullish in the technology sector, because of this we have chosen three stocks in this sector. We feel comfortable with this because of the overall size and growth of the technology sector. Our companies in the technology industry specialize in the research and development and the distribution of technologically based goods and/or services. This industry is also producing new and innovating items which makes it a prime choice for investors. In 2016, the tech industry generated market sales of about $2.9 trillion and it expected to grow by 4.7% in 2017 (Bartels, 2016). Activision

Instead of traditionally treating the symptoms, gene therapy aims to treat the disease s root cause by directly altering genes and correcting defects. Therefore, gene therapy is only viable for certain diseases. Disorders from mutations in single genes are the most treatable, whereas disorders that involve many genes and environmental factors are trickier. There are two types of gene therapy: somatic gene therapy (SGT) and germline gene therapy (GGT). SGT involves treating a single individual by transferring therapeutic genes into somatic cells, most commonly bone marrow. GGT inserts genes into reproductive cells or embryos to fix genetic defects in the germ line. In other words, the genetic makeup of future generations is changed to prevent the recurrence of certain genetic disorders. Although gene therapy as a whole is controversial, germline gene therapy especially raises ethical concerns because it is capable of manipulating the human genome of a germ line. First, the risk is without the consent of future generations, and second, it may dangerously lead to genetic enhancement. Genetic enhancement has its own set of ethical issues, ranging from eugenics and social discrimination to messing with nature. Therefore, the potential consequences of gene therapy have raised a hotly contested bioethical question of whether gene therapy should be allowed in the future. The

Our culture, lifestyle, habits, family and life experiences shape us into who we are and why we do some of the things we do. With these differences in us, conflicts are bound to happen with any formed relationship we have between family and co workers. I believe this is the reason, amongst others, why the Myers Briggs personality test was created; to understand diversity and help us learn and become better individuals to the world at large. This paper evaluates the results of my Myers Briggs test and how it applies in my personal life and career. Furthermore, I discuss what I have learned and how it it would benefit me in the future. пѓјNeeds work The Myers Briggs personality test is designed to categorize human personality and behavior. Based on Carl Jung s theory, Katherine C. Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers developed this process which includes 16 personality types to help people understand their psychological personality type (The Myers Briggs Foundation, 2016). Each personality type is represented by four letters, and the letters are indicators of which category of preference an individual fall into. Step I: The Result After taking the personality test, my result turned out to be ESFJ. ESFJ stands for Extravert, Sensing, Feeling and Judging respectively. This personality type is also known as the caregivers or the providers. Below is a summary of the test result. According to the test, I
  • 32. Lab Report On Catalase Catalase lab background The question being answered by these experiments is: How do different conditions affect the productivity of enzymes? Enzymes are produced by cells and they act as catalysts, which means they are organic molecules that speed up chemical reactions. How effectively they work depends on the conditions they are in, such as level of temperature, pH level, substrate concentration, and salt concentration. In these experiments, Catalase will be placed in different conditions with hydrogen peroxide. How active the enzyme is in these different conditions will be measured by the amount of oxygen gas being produced. A very high increase in oxygen will indicate a high reaction rate and a low production of oxygen will show that there is a low reaction rate. On the other hand, if there is no change in the level of oxygen, it will indicate that the Catalase is denatured and is no longer functioning. In temperature, when it increases, it is expected that the activity of Catalase will also increase up to a certain temperature. After a certain degree, it is expected that the activity of Catalase will slow down and eventually come to stop. Similarly, it is expected that more concentration of substrates will lead to higher activity of Catalase up to a certain concentration level. Past that certain level, the productivity of the enzyme will stop. On the other hand, for pH and salt concentration level, it is expected that too low or too high in either variable will lead to

Comparing The Individual Holdings Of My 10 Stocks With The... 1.Comparing the individual holdings of my 10 stocks with the portfolio as a whole, either strategy would yield me positive returns. However, diversification is shown to be not as successful, as there are more unwanted factors. Three of my individual holdings (FIX, UNH, and HUBG) were shown to have large standard deviations, in both monthly and annually, which means that all three stocks have high historical volatilities, and are much riskier when bought individually compared to diversified portfolio. However, average monthly and annual returns of all individual stocks, with the exception of Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. (ETH), are shown to be higher than the average returns for the portfolio as a whole, meaning if I were to invest individually in the stocks, I would most likely yield a much greater return. Also, looking at the coefficient of Variance (CV), the portfolio appeared to have a much higher CV than each individual stock, suggesting higher riskper return. Due to these factors mentioned, I feel that the portfolio is better to be hold individually as 9 out of 10 stocks show high numbers of returns. Note: Due to the negative return for Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. (ETH) stock, CV for this holding is negative, thus should be ruled out as this could be a misleading indicator. 2.Tracking error (active return) is the difference between portfolio and the benchmark (in our case, S P500). It is calculated by subtracting the average return on benchmark (S P500) to the
