Persuasive Essay On Naps
Naps. Everyone has taken naps at some point in their life. We take them after a long day of school, a
long day of work, or when we didn t get enough sleep the night before. We take naps all the time, but
do we truly know how naps affect our body? Do we truly know how we benefit from naps? Sleep is a
complicated process that many of us take for granted. Without sleep, we would die. Sleep has many
benefits, but unfortunately some people with sleep disorders or people with night shift jobs are unable
to experience the benefits of sleep. The majority of people in the world face sleep deprivation because
they do not get the recommended eight hours of sleep a night. Since many people are constantly in a
sleep deprived state, they are unaware ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we take naps, we are contributing to our brain forming these key memories. When conducting a
study, researchers found that our memories are formed and consolidated in the REM and Stage 2
NREM categories of sleep. They discovered that REM and Stage 2 NREM support a variety of
powerful sleep dependent memory processes that act to (i) enlarge the neural networks in which
memories are stored, (ii) integrate these new memories with other, older memories, into rich semantic
networks, and (iii) extract patterns and rules from large bodies of encoded information (Stickgold).
When we enter REM sleep or Stage 2 during our naps, we undergoing these processes and
consolidating memories that we will utilize in the future. Along with memory consolidation, research
has also emphasized the importance of NREM sleep including stage 2 for efficient motor
consolidation (Debarnot). Motor imagery goes along with our memories. Studies were conducted and
they showed that daytime naps helped with not only memory consolidation, but with our motor
imagery. The results proved that daytime naps helped people perform different motor skills and tasks
after following their nap. When researchers compared the data with people who had not taken a nap,
they saw that by not taking a nap, their ability to perform the same tasks was actually slowed down
compared to those that had taken a nap (Debarnot). This research

Resonant Characteristics Of The Acoustic Theory Of Speech...
According to the acoustic theory of speech production, what we know to be speech output results from
a source of sound energy (e.g. the larynx) modulated by a transfer (filter) function which is determined
by the shape of the resonator (vocal tract). This model, often referred to as the source filter theory of
speech production, originates from the works of Gunner Fant (1960, 1980) and Stevens and House
(1955, 1961) (Haskins Laboratory, Yale University 2008). Source filter theory puts forth two distinct
and important ideas; one is that the specific articulatory postures that the vocal tract takes on results in
the production of specific sounds, which is why speakers can deduce the shape of the vocal tract upon
hearing a speech sound. The other is that while the source may produce a sound, the filter will select
only a portion of the harmonics within that sound to be amplified and issued from the mouth
(Behrman, A. 2017).
Resonant Characteristics of the Vocal Tract
Because source filter theory breaks up speech production into the resonator and the source, it allows
us the advantage of assessing the contributions of each. When examining the glottal source, it is
important to keep in mind its acoustic characteristics. The glottal source, perceived as a buzzing noise
when not filtered through a resonator, has a fundamental frequency and corresponding harmonics. The
first characteristic to consider would be whether the sound is voiced or voiceless. When a sound is
voiced, the

Sources Of PMS Dual Problem Of Plattsburgh Motor Service
1. Part1: Sources of PMS Dual Problem (Stagnant Sales Declining Profits):
Plattsburgh Motor Service (PMS) s dual problem of stagnant sales and declining profits are normal
symptoms associated with the industry s current stage in the product life cycle which is the maturity
stage. According to McGraw Hill s essentials of marketing book, the market maturity stage occurs
when industry sales level off and competition gets tougher the industry s profit declines because the
promotion costs increase, price reduction strategies are applied by competition to attract customers
(2010, p. 223). Thus, the possible sources for PMS problem can be classified as external (competition
and economy) and internal (marketing strategy).

The price practices done by the manufacturer puts PMS in a favorable situation, as the three colors
makes differentiation for resellers classes, thus, PMS with its warehouse and jobber capacity can get
lower prices by taking some distribution tasks in behalf of the manufacturer (storing). In case PMS

Imagine your favorite television, video game, or story book character. What is it about that character
that you enjoy more than any other character you ve ever seen? Is it their personality, or maybe you
really connect with that character? Now imagine this: what if you could become that character, if you
really wanted to? This is the thought process that people go through when they decide to take the first
step onto the road of cosplay. All it takes is that one spark, and soon you ll have started a fire that will

With so many different ways to go about doing the same thing, it s important to find the way you re
comfortable with. Being an engineer, I decided to make a 3D prototype model of the sword Ike uses.
When it comes to making something fictional or incredibly difficult to replicate, following the
prototyping process can help you save time and money in the future. In the words of Mr. John Ouimet,
Prototyping is used any time you are going to make something, whether you are doing hardcore
engineering or . . . it takes on many different appearances. You can simulate many of the earlier steps
with just a computer. However, what does the word prototype actually mean? Prototyping is the
process of making an early sample of a product, built to test a concept or process, or it s a thing meant
to be replicated or learned from. However, it is not just limited to the engineering field; it can also be
applied to the arts and sciences. One form of prototyping one could use is called 3D printing, where
you have to design an object using a 3D modeling software and send it to a 3D printer to be printed.
Generally speaking, this is a relatively fast and cheap method of making a prototype, as the materials
are fairly cheap, and you can design what you want printed from the comfort of your own home. The
type of machine you use will affect the parts quality. With a higher end printer, you can print

Wangari Maathai s Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech...
Wangari Maathai expresses her gratitude to the world for her Nobel Peace Prize, and also calls her
audience to action. Her goal is to convince the world that the environment has much more importance
than most people seem to realize. In her speech she begins by expressing her gratitude, and persuading
her audience that she is worth listening to. Second she discusses the importance of the environment
and explains how the Green Belt Movement has helped and changed the world. She then clarifies the
problems still occurring. After establishing the problems, she goes on to make her call to action.
Lastly, she ends by establishing pathos.
Maathai expresses her gratitude in the beginning of the speech. She thanks all the people that made the
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She does this to ensure the listeners that taking care of the environment does much more than make
the world we live in look better. Taking care of the environment also takes part in ensuring a
successful democracy and many other important things in society. The idea that Maathai is attempting
to get across to everyone is that the Earth is our friend and we should give back what we take. She
helps us understand this by explaining the awful chain reactions that occur when we don t replenish
what we have consumed from Earth.
Third, she makes her call to action. She asks everyone to take part in something to help the
environment. She addresses each group of people separately. Men and women of all races, children,
young adults, everyone, can take part in something to help. In the course of history, there comes a time
when humanity is called to shift to a new level of consciousness, to reach a higher moral ground. A
time when we have to shed our fear and give hope to each other. That time is now. (4) Her sentence
structure of That time is now, really gives emphasis on what she wants. It is short and to the point. It s
also a very simple sentence. She didn t replace simple words with fancier words. This shows that what
she is asking from people isn t rocket science. She is asking for something as simple as planting trees
or recycling. Her call to action is for everyone to contribute to helping take care of the environment in
some way.

The Expansive Ethical Standards Give Customers Some Level...
Financial Plan Project, Part IV
The expansive ethical standards give customers some level of solace; the use of those standards to
particular circumstances can be to some degree ambiguous. Keeping in mind the end goal to elucidate
the utilization of its code of morals, the CFP Board has incorporated an arrangement of guidelines all
the more particularly talking about regular issues that emerge amid financial arranging.
The CFP (certified financial planner) Board s standards all identify with specific standards in its code
of ethics. Case in point, in characterizing the obligation of uprightness, the principles oblige
organizers to abstain from deluding methods for requesting business, deceitful direct, and misusing of
customer s funds. To be objective, an organizer should dependably act to the greatest advantage of the
customer, utilizing sensible and judicious judgment as a part of settling on any choices. To stay
capable, an organizer must take proceeding with instruction classes and abstain from giving
exhortation in territories in which the organizer needs adequate information. Keeping in mind the end
goal to show reasonable treatment, organizers must uncover particular data about irreconcilable
circumstances, including remuneration from outside sources, for example, mutual fund, insurance, and
financier companies. They should charge just a sensible expense, and abstain from taking part in

Personal Behavior Change
Everyone has different challenge in his/her life ,and he/she may have different view on the same thing.
Therefore, people will have different goals which they are eager to achieve. Based on what my life
looks like and what I need in my life, my behavior change is to exercise at least one hour every day.
The reasons why I choose this goal are because I want to spend some time relaxing from my daily life,
and get the balance between education and occupation. Moreover, I expect to burn the fat in my body
because I spend very little time for workout since I got a job. When I planned to accomplish this
behavior change, I knew that challenges or difficulties would appear, I could not avoid them and I
could not finish it easily. But I am the kind of person who likes challenge and I am not afraid of it.
Therefore, I chose this behavior change. During the process of this behavior change, I met a lot of
difficulties and I learn how to get balance well in my life. The first and the biggest difficulty is time
because the time availability is limit for me. Because I have two summer classes and I need to work

Thirty Years War
Background A thorough understanding of the Thirty Years War is essential in discussing the effects of
the Peace of Westphalia. Religion dominated authority in Europe in the 16th century, namely
Catholicism. However, dissatisfaction grew as the Protestant Reformation gained more followers,
resulting in tension and divisions throughout the Holy Roman Empire. Weakened imperial power and
unrest between ruler and subjects began as early as 1555. Although the Thirty Years War broke out
based on religious conflicts, the motives of the war became mainly of political supremacy as fighting
continued on a continental scale in the latter years. It pitted Protestant against Catholic, the Holy
Roman Empire against France, the German princes and princelings

The Artist Of Brownstones By Jacob Lawrence
Topic 1: Brownstones is a bit of abstract art depicting a group of what appear to be African Americans
going about their lives on a busy street. This is a clear piece of the architecture that led to the swelling
civil rights movement of the 50s. During the 1920s and 1930s, as a result of the combined forces of
the Great Migration, the Depression, the Jazz Era, and the Harlem Renaissance, Harlem was
transformed into a community with a unique identity. A sanctuary for African American art, this new
cultural oasis enjoyed a sense of optimism in spite of economic difficulties. Like many writers and
artists of his time, Jacob Lawrence, the artist of Brownstones, was inspired by the dynamic vitality of
the Harlem community. One of the more interesting aspects of this is the communal response that was
brought about by the Renaissance . Initially during the civil rights movement it was students who
marched at the forefront, those with nothing to lose and everything to gain. However, over time the
movement blossomed fully, and those from all walks of life stepped up to defend liberty. In the wake
of the assassination of Martin Luther King, we as a nation(most of us anyway) stood as one against
oppression and hatred. We fought the good fight, without weapons or blows, but with dollars, steps
and words. It wasn t a war though. You don t win wars by dying for your country, you win by making
the other guy die for his. This was a rebellion, two sides claimed they held the same

Superstition
Superstition is a belief, half belief, or practice for which there appears to be no rational substance.
People tend to believe that they have their own certain knowledge or evidence that supports religious
beliefs or philosophical reasoning s. This leads people into believing that they have more control than
the reality and actuality of all situations and circumstances. Many customs that we take for granted as
being a normal part of our culture have actually evolved from superstitious beliefs of the past. There

Among the quoted who all said something in the favor of justice are Socrates, St. Thomas Aquinas,
Martin Buber, and Paul Tillich. To condone his label as an extremist, King listed other extremists:
Jesus as an extremist of love, Amos an extremist of justice, Paul an extremist of the Gospel, Martin
Luther, John Bunyan, and Abraham Lincoln, all highly respected people who gave everything for what
they believed in. King uses this to help his cause be seen in the light of Jesus mission of Christianity
and Abraham Lincoln s quest for the end of slavery. King also presents other examples of those who
struggled with oppression, such as the Jewish in Hitler s Germany, the early Christians, and subjects of
Nebuchhadnezzar. The use of examples of other people helps the reader see that King is not alone in
his thoughts and ideas. Eloquent and logical explanations are one of King s strengths. In the twenty
second paragraph, King again uses logical appeal. He states that, In your statement you asserted that
our actions, even though peaceful, must be condemned because they precipitate violence. But can this
assertion be logically made? Isn t this like condemning the robbed man because his possession of
money precipitated the evil act of robbery? This statement is a direct logical appeal to the readers and
by using the example of a man robbed of his money places the situation on the reader s level rather

Faith, Family, And Religious Freedom
The family is fading. Religion is falling. Faith is failing. The first right in the First Amendment, the
right to the free practice of religion, is being viciously attacked by the citizens of America. The
traditional family an ideal so simple and fundamental that, twenty years ago, any alteration to it would
be unfathomable is now being challenged. Times are changing; society is changing. Among others,
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland addresses this change in his speech, Faith, Family, and Religious Freedom. In
this lecture given at Chapman University in 2015, he focuses on that trend in today s society: faith,
family, and religious freedom, or, more accurately, the decline in it. Traditional family values and
religion have degraded at an astonishing rate, he claims; the fact that he devoted an entire speech to
the topic proves the severity of said trend. Elder Holland builds common ground, quotes credible
sources, and shows irrefutable facts and statistics to effectively convince his religious listeners that
action must be taken to prevent the disappearing freedoms of faith, family, and religion, else
disastrous consequences take place.
Part of the reason Elder Holland eminently convinced his audience that the decline in family values is
an issue was how he established a solid common ground from which they could each relate. In a
crowd so religiously diverse, in order to be truly effective, a sense of unity must be achieved and
maintained throughout the entirety of the event to

as a means of passing ideas, information and expression of feelings. This has made the poets to use the

language for example imagery and metaphors. In addition, the poets use the natural landscape in their

Shelley in his poem Ode to the West Wind has used similes in his poem. He states that, the leaves dead
are driven like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing. He also states that, the winged seeds where they lie
cold and low each like a corpse within its grave. As observed from these examples, the poets will use
these techniques to assist in easier interpretation of the poem. The poets also use metaphors when
writing poems. Metaphors refer to the use of certain words to mean otherwise in the context of the
poem. However, metaphors are sometimes hidden in the poem such that they require the reader to
figure out their existence in the poem. This will be easy when the poet employs the physical
environment that is well understood by the reader. In addition, metaphors will strengthen the ideas that
the poet wants to pass across. Metaphors will therefore make it easier for the readers to interpret and
understand the meaning that the poet intended to communicate. Shelley has used a metaphor in his
poem where he states ...Pestilence stricken multitudes . He states this to indicate to the reader that he
is not just addressing a pile of leaves. Therefore, this helps to understand the deeper meaning of the
poem. He also states about the wintry bed , which is meant to show his mood in the poem. Poets also
use the landscape in writing poems because of the inspiration that they get from such places. This
could be based on some memory or the history of the place and

While actors can make an audience feel many different emotions with their work, the viewers fail to

can strongly influence millions on and off screen. Born October 21, 1956, Carrie Fisher grew up
surrounded by spotlight and fame radiating from her mother and father: Debbie Reynolds and Eddie

Social Norms In Madame Flaubert s Madame Bovary
In Madame Bovary, flowers embody the separation of Emma s desires from her reality as well as her
defiance against Victorian norms. Throughout the novel, Emma faces the contrast of her romantic
fantasies versus the boring, dissatisfying realities of her life with Charles. Emma also experiences
conflict between Victorian societal norms and her behaviors that violate those norms. Flaubert s use of
flowers distinguishes Emma s desires from her reality and her behavior from the set societal standard.
The association of flowers with the church reflects Emma s romanticized vision of religion that moves
away from piety. Rather than worshiping God and the messages of Christianity, she finds her faith

Analysis Of The Movie I re Your Problem Annie
You re your problem Annie, and you re also your solution, is something surprisingly deep from the R
rated Comedy Bridesmaids (1:37:13). This movie is about a girl, Annie, who along with falling on
hard times has to plan her best friend, Lillian s wedding while dealing with a crazy group of
bridesmaids: Helen, the rich perfectionist, Rita, the mother who hates her three boys, Becca, the newly
wed, and Megan, the overtalkative nutcase. Bridesmaids has a lot of truths about money, success, and
overall happiness. The main themes of the movie are that money will not always make someone happy
and that money does not make anyone better than anyone else. With those themes there are also a lot
of comparisons that could be made with the movie including how Helen, the very rich, and Annie, the
very poor, constantly struggle to prove who would be a better maid of honor, and how Annie could be
an embodiment of the struggles millennials faced during and after the stock market collapse.
Two characters that really show that money does not buy happiness: Megan and Rhodes, a cop who
becomes Annie s love interest. Megan is a very interesting character in this movie because while she is
very odd she really has her life put together. She was able to overcome the obstacles that she talked
about with Annie and how she loves what she does (1:35:54 1:36:24). While Megan does make a lot
of money, she would most certainly be happy without and be able to have a fulfilled life as long as she

Fahrenheit 451 Analysis
My eyes widen as my dad hurtles past me in his neon green skis. I cringe as he accelerates towards the
end of the slope I know he s going to wipe out. My dad couldn t seem to make his skis face inwards in
a triangle to slow down. Like I expected, his arms fly through the air, and he plunges into the snow. I
can t resist laughing as I make my way down the slope and help my dad up. At the time, I only thought
about how funny it was, but looking back, I realize it contains an important lesson. When I was
younger, I believed adults were always right, that they always knew what to say and do. Thinking
about this memory, I realized that wasn t true adults are just as human as kids are. This knowledge has
helped me understand that I can t expect adults to succeed at everything just because they are adults.
In Fahrenheit 451,

Risk Management and Contingency Planning
Project: A case of manufacturing, delivery and installation of a large power transformer. 1.
INTRODUCTION
A project to manufacture, deliver and install a large power transformer is time and resource (material
and labour) consuming, relies on services and products provided by more than one supplier, involves
multiple expertise, and costs tens of millions of Rands. If a transformer fails, the cost of rectification
can go as high as over 70% of the price of a new one. By so saying, risk management and contingency
planning plays a key role in the management of such a project. In this report, the need and process of
risk management as well as the types of risks in relation to the power transformer project are
discussed.
2. PROJECT ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like in many other projects, the basic concerns in the power transformer project are schedule and
costs, while continuously ensuring that the product meets required specifications and performance any
deviation to what is planned constitutes a risk. In practice however, things do not always go according
to plan and therefore risk management is needed to ensure that chaos does not prevail.
The point that Kippenberger (2000) is making in his article titled there s no such thing as risk free
project is that almost everything we do in a project involves a risk of some kind by so saying, it is
therefore essential that we are prepared or able to deal with risks. Most literature puts emphasis on the
negative connotation that the word risk carries. For instance, Chapman and Ward (2003) provide the
meaning of risk as: hazard, chance of bad consequences, loss, and exposure to chance of injury or loss.
Galway (2004) defines risk as an event which is uncertain and has negative impact, and similarly,
Martin (2008: 38) defines risk as the chance of something occurring that has an adverse effect on the
project . This negativity highlights the fact that problems can occur or things can go wrong and it is
therefore important to have a systematic approach to managing them. Therefore in project
management, risk management is necessary to increase the chances of the proposed project
succeeding.

in conjunction with each other to ensure a competitive edge over other companies. The marketing mix
is designed to produce mutually satisfying exchanges with a target market .
Product
BA s product in essence relates to the flights offered. However, the product can be drilled down into
specific areas ranging from the airport lounges around the world, the extras that you can buy on board
such as model BA aeroplanes or even package holidays. Each of these has been specifically tailored to
meet customer expectations (which are highlighted in the section of the report titled target market ).
This part of the marketing mix focuses on how BA s products are managed and in the Guardian case

The Amistad Essay
The Amistad
The Amistad was a Spanish ship built in Baltimore for the purpose of transporting slaves. For three
years, it sailed the high seas delivering its cargo to various locations. But in August of 1838, a
scandalous injustice was uncovered after the ship was seized by an American vessel, the USS
Washington, a coast guard ship under the command of Lt. Thomas R. Gedney. Lt. Gedney and his
crew towed the Amistad into a New England harbor in Connecticut where soon many controversies

at $40,000, not including the Africans, who were an additional $20,000 $30,000 on the Havana

Slave trade had been outlawed in the United States colonies for almost 30 years and in Spain for 19.
Feeling something was wrong with the stories surrounding this vessel, Mr. Hollabird ordered a judicial
hearing. The call for the hearing was not out of concern for the Africans, but, Mr. Hollabird, as a
representative of the law, had to follow legal procedures of an investigation. The matter of murder,
piracy, salvage rights and more sent this case to trial, and the Africans were placed in detainment
under the custody of the US Marshall. The case appeared before Judge Andrew Judson.
Abolitionists were very active during this time in history. After they became aware of this case, they
decided to become involved on behalf of the Africans. They were to use this case as a means of
publicizing the evils of the African slave trade and slavery itself.
Lewis Tappan, a descendant of Benjamin Franklin, wanted to change the world. As an admitted
Christian evangelistic abolitionist, he firmly believed slavery was a moral wrong and openly opposed
it. He called for many of the leading

Analysis Of The War In Iraq
The basic levels of analysis start at the individual level. This is done by locating the sources of
behaviors and outcomes of the characteristics and natural tendencies of people. Examples of the
variables would be one s perceptions, personality, and preferences. By using these variables, one can
analyze the effects those individuals will have on the policies. In the war in Iraq, we can analyze the
individual role George W. Bush had as the President of the United States. Because the President
viewed Saddam Hussein as aggressive and dangerous, Bush chose to declare war against them in

Outline:
Throughout Into the Wild, many authors are mentioned and alluded to by Krakauer, the most
significant of these being Leo Tolstoy, Henry David Thoreau, and Jack London. Krakauer uses these
allusions to illustrate how Chris McCandless was heavily influenced by these writers with whom he

Krakauer alludes to the writing of Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy to show the similarities between him

Analysis Of When You Are Old By William Butler Yeats
William Butler Yeats texts have become more valued over time as they have explored difficult and

Chaos and change are inescapable and it cannot be controlled, directed or even contained. The Second
Coming was written as a reaction to the chaos and changes due to WW1 and Ireland s movement into
the post colonial stage. The poem states Yeats political views and worries that the people who hold
power are driving the country towards mere chaos, thus revealing his desire for stability. Yeats uses a
metaphor, Things fall apart; the center cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world , implying
that the world is heading towards chaos. It is also referencing political implications and the changes
that have released mere anarchy upon the world. Even though Yeats desires stability, his own cynical
mindset stops him from believing that stability is achievable as the Second Coming is occurring. The
bleak and gloomy tone of the The Second Coming demonstrates the negativity caused by the changes
and chaos possibly foreshadowing death created by the second coming. The Second Coming is a text
that has definitely become more valued over time as it challenges common ideas such as war and what
is the point of war, which many people think all the time. It is very relevant throughout humanity as it

Large wind turbines powered completely by wind gusts generate up to 233 megawatts of power every

unused energy purchased by energy companies. Wind energy is very popular in Germany especially
where at least 33% of the countries energy comes completely from wind turbines (Roberts 13). Solar
power is nothing completely new; it has been used for years to power small devices from calculators
to watches, but what is new is its improved efficiency. Solar panels can be used to collect energy from
the sun and now are being used on a much larger scale. Homeowners and business can use energy
generated from the panels to power their homes and offices and have it purchased by energy suppliers.
Solar power is proving to be an economical energy source available to the public that is consumer

Mandatory Auditor Of The New Rule

independence issues, however the Competition Commission delayed the introduction of the new rule
as it has a conflict with EU regulations. In fact, since the early 1970s, whether introduction of
mandatory auditor rotation has sparked much debate. The favourer often used to vindicate mandatory
auditor rotation rule is to enhance auditor independence, have a fresh view at the financial statement,

Enhancing Auditor s Independence and Objectives Reducing the Earning Management
Convincing arguments can be made that the introduction of mandatory auditor rotation enhance
auditor independence that really improves the audit quality. In fact, audit firms are economically
bonded to its clients as there is a financial rewards associated with keeping a long term relationship
with an audit client. In order to maintain the longer period of audit firms tenure, auditors might be
enticed to overlook the issue of financial reporting such as earning management. Moreover, this

  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Naps Naps. Everyone has taken naps at some point in their life. We take them after a long day of school, a long day of work, or when we didn t get enough sleep the night before. We take naps all the time, but do we truly know how naps affect our body? Do we truly know how we benefit from naps? Sleep is a complicated process that many of us take for granted. Without sleep, we would die. Sleep has many benefits, but unfortunately some people with sleep disorders or people with night shift jobs are unable to experience the benefits of sleep. The majority of people in the world face sleep deprivation because they do not get the recommended eight hours of sleep a night. Since many people are constantly in a sleep deprived state, they are unaware ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we take naps, we are contributing to our brain forming these key memories. When conducting a study, researchers found that our memories are formed and consolidated in the REM and Stage 2 NREM categories of sleep. They discovered that REM and Stage 2 NREM support a variety of powerful sleep dependent memory processes that act to (i) enlarge the neural networks in which memories are stored, (ii) integrate these new memories with other, older memories, into rich semantic networks, and (iii) extract patterns and rules from large bodies of encoded information (Stickgold). When we enter REM sleep or Stage 2 during our naps, we undergoing these processes and consolidating memories that we will utilize in the future. Along with memory consolidation, research has also emphasized the importance of NREM sleep including stage 2 for efficient motor consolidation (Debarnot). Motor imagery goes along with our memories. Studies were conducted and they showed that daytime naps helped with not only memory consolidation, but with our motor imagery. The results proved that daytime naps helped people perform different motor skills and tasks after following their nap. When researchers compared the data with people who had not taken a nap, they saw that by not taking a nap, their ability to perform the same tasks was actually slowed down compared to those that had taken a nap (Debarnot). • 3. Resonant Characteristics Of The Acoustic Theory Of Speech... According to the acoustic theory of speech production, what we know to be speech output results from a source of sound energy (e.g. the larynx) modulated by a transfer (filter) function which is determined by the shape of the resonator (vocal tract). This model, often referred to as the source filter theory of speech production, originates from the works of Gunner Fant (1960, 1980) and Stevens and House (1955, 1961) (Haskins Laboratory, Yale University 2008). Source filter theory puts forth two distinct and important ideas; one is that the specific articulatory postures that the vocal tract takes on results in the production of specific sounds, which is why speakers can deduce the shape of the vocal tract upon hearing a speech sound. The other is that while the source may produce a sound, the filter will select only a portion of the harmonics within that sound to be amplified and issued from the mouth (Behrman, A. 2017). Resonant Characteristics of the Vocal Tract Because source filter theory breaks up speech production into the resonator and the source, it allows us the advantage of assessing the contributions of each. When examining the glottal source, it is important to keep in mind its acoustic characteristics. The glottal source, perceived as a buzzing noise when not filtered through a resonator, has a fundamental frequency and corresponding harmonics. The first characteristic to consider would be whether the sound is voiced or voiceless. When a sound is voiced, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being an engineer, I decided to make a 3D prototype model of the sword Ike uses. When it comes to making something fictional or incredibly difficult to replicate, following the prototyping process can help you save time and money in the future. In the words of Mr. John Ouimet, Prototyping is used any time you are going to make something, whether you are doing hardcore engineering or . . . it takes on many different appearances. You can simulate many of the earlier steps with just a computer. However, what does the word prototype actually mean? Prototyping is the process of making an early sample of a product, built to test a concept or process, or it s a thing meant to be replicated or learned from. However, it is not just limited to the engineering field; it can also be applied to the arts and sciences. One form of prototyping one could use is called 3D printing, where you have to design an object using a 3D modeling software and send it to a 3D printer to be printed. Generally speaking, this is a relatively fast and cheap method of making a prototype, as the materials are fairly cheap, and you can design what you want printed from the comfort of your own home. The type of machine you use will affect the parts quality. With a higher end printer, you can print ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Taking care of the environment also takes part in ensuring a successful democracy and many other important things in society. She helps us understand this by explaining the awful chain reactions that occur when we don t replenish what we have consumed from Earth. Third, she makes her call to action. She asks everyone to take part in something to help the environment. She addresses each group of people separately. Men and women of all races, children, young adults, everyone, can take part in something to help. In the course of history, there comes a time when humanity is called to shift to a new level of consciousness, to reach a higher moral ground. A time when we have to shed our fear and give hope to each other. That time is now. (4) Her sentence structure of That time is now, really gives emphasis on what she wants. It is short and to the point. It s also a very simple sentence. She didn t replace simple words with fancier words. This shows that what she is asking from people isn t rocket science. • 11. The Artist Of Brownstones By Jacob Lawrence Topic 1: Brownstones is a bit of abstract art depicting a group of what appear to be African Americans going about their lives on a busy street. This is a clear piece of the architecture that led to the swelling civil rights movement of the 50s. During the 1920s and 1930s, as a result of the combined forces of the Great Migration, the Depression, the Jazz Era, and the Harlem Renaissance, Harlem was transformed into a community with a unique identity. A sanctuary for African American art, this new cultural oasis enjoyed a sense of optimism in spite of economic difficulties. Like many writers and artists of his time, Jacob Lawrence, the artist of Brownstones, was inspired by the dynamic vitality of the Harlem community. One of the more interesting aspects of this is the communal response that was brought about by the Renaissance . Initially during the civil rights movement it was students who marched at the forefront, those with nothing to lose and everything to gain. However, over time the movement blossomed fully, and those from all walks of life stepped up to defend liberty. In the wake of the assassination of Martin Luther King, we as a nation(most of us anyway) stood as one against oppression and hatred. The first right in the First Amendment, the right to the free practice of religion, is being viciously attacked by the citizens of America. The traditional family an ideal so simple and fundamental that, twenty years ago, any alteration to it would be unfathomable is now being challenged. Times are changing; society is changing. Among others, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland addresses this change in his speech, Faith, Family, and Religious Freedom. In this lecture given at Chapman University in 2015, he focuses on that trend in today s society: faith, family, and religious freedom, or, more accurately, the decline in it. Traditional family values and religion have degraded at an astonishing rate, he claims; the fact that he devoted an entire speech to the topic proves the severity of said trend. Elder Holland builds common ground, quotes credible sources, and shows irrefutable facts and statistics to effectively convince his religious listeners that action must be taken to prevent the disappearing freedoms of faith, family, and religion, else disastrous consequences take place. Part of the reason Elder Holland eminently convinced his audience that the decline in family values is an issue was how he established a solid common ground from which they could each relate. Metaphors refer to the use of certain words to mean otherwise in the context of the poem. However, metaphors are sometimes hidden in the poem such that they require the reader to figure out their existence in the poem. This will be easy when the poet employs the physical environment that is well understood by the reader. In addition, metaphors will strengthen the ideas that the poet wants to pass across. My dad couldn t seem to make his skis face inwards in a triangle to slow down. Like I expected, his arms fly through the air, and he plunges into the snow. I can t resist laughing as I make my way down the slope and help my dad up. At the time, I only thought about how funny it was, but looking back, I realize it contains an important lesson. When I was younger, I believed adults were always right, that they always knew what to say and do. Thinking about this memory, I realized that wasn t true adults are just as human as kids are. This knowledge has helped me understand that I can t expect adults to succeed at everything just because they are adults. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury foreshadows Montag s failure as an adult, similar to my foreshadow of my dad s inability to ski. Through the use of a memory and a tough question, Bradbury hints that Montag will try and fail to be as exceptional and admirable as kids assume adults ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And the faster he poured, the faster it sifted through with a hot whispering (74). In the memory, Montag wanted to fill the sieve with sand, but like his failure to memorize the book, it was impossible to fill a sieve with sand. Because the sand was so small, it slipped through the holes in the sieve. If a transformer fails, the cost of rectification can go as high as over 70% of the price of a new one. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like in many other projects, the basic concerns in the power transformer project are schedule and costs, while continuously ensuring that the product meets required specifications and performance any deviation to what is planned constitutes a risk. In practice however, things do not always go according to plan and therefore risk management is needed to ensure that chaos does not prevail. The point that Kippenberger (2000) is making in his article titled there s no such thing as risk free project is that almost everything we do in a project involves a risk of some kind by so saying, it is therefore essential that we are prepared or able to deal with risks. Most literature puts emphasis on the negative connotation that the word risk carries. For instance, Chapman and Ward (2003) provide the meaning of risk as: hazard, chance of bad consequences, loss, and exposure to chance of injury or loss. Galway (2004) defines risk as an event which is uncertain and has negative impact, and similarly, Martin (2008: 38) defines risk as the chance of something occurring that has an adverse effect on the project . This negativity highlights the fact that problems can occur or things can go wrong and it is therefore important to have a systematic approach to managing them. Therefore in project management, risk management is necessary to increase the chances of the proposed project succeeding. 3. THE PROCESS OF MANAGING PROJECT RISKS The process of managing ...
