My Education Philosophy
Personal Mission Statement
Education is the imparting and acquiring of knowledge and skills through teaching and learning. As an
educator, my personal mission statement is to master my subject area in order to serve as a role model
for my students thereby producing students who thoroughly understand the subject matter, and who
develop holistically. In order to achieve this goal I must have a set education philosophy with a strong
Christian worldview. I must also have a general understanding of the different world and education
philosophies.
Metaphysics
Metaphysics is defined as the branch of philosophy that examines the true nature of reality whether
visible or invisible. Metaphysics includes the relationship between mind and matter, substance and
attribute, and, fact and value.
Idealists believe that only the mental is ultimate reality and that the mental world of ideas is
permanent, regular and orderly (Berumen, 2014). They affirm that reality is essentially spiritual or
mental and denies the possibility of knowing anything except ideas. Idealists theorize that ultimate
reality is solely in the mind and argues that the universe is an expression of highly generalized
intelligence and will (Gutek, 1997, p. 18). In summary, Idealists believe that what exists really exists,
and cannot be changed because it is permanent, and cannot be new because it is regular.
In contrast to Idealists, Pragmatists believes that there are no unchanging or eternal truths. Pragmatists

Theme Of Bravery In Life Is Beautiful
How does Benigni show the significance of bravery in the film Life is Beautiful?
Life is Beautiful (1997), an Italian comedic drama set in 1939, tells the tale of Guido, a young Jewish
man living during the time of World War II, the film follows Guido and his family; from when they
were happy living freely to when they are forced to work unfairly in concentration camps. Directed by
Roberto Benigni, also known for Pinocchio (2002), Life is Beautiful portrays many important themes
and messages to the audience. Benigni shows the importance of bravery in the film, through cinematic
techniques including camera angles, lighting, and sound.
Bravery is likely the most conspicuous theme in Life is Beautiful. It is exhibited throughout the whole
film by the cinematography directed by Roberto Benigni. Cinematography includes the different
angles, camera movement and editing. Camera angles can affect the audience in many ways. The most
common camera angle used in this film is the wide shot as it shows the characters completely not only
the main character but all the characters in the foreground and background. To portray the theme of
the importance of bravery, Benigni uses a mid shot to grasp the attention of the audience which
focuses in on Guido and a German Nazi Officer. In this scene, Guido offers to translate the rules of the
concentration camp as he claims to speak German, however Guido only wishes to translate the rules
for his son making the rules seem like the rules of

Intoux Pearl Advertising
Advertisements are important to get the brand s name known, so they can sell products and make
money. It is important for a company s name to be out there so they can sell things because if people
do not know about their brand then they probably would not buy it. Advertisements are used to
convince people that their product is worth spending money on. The advertisement I will be exploring
is a Tampax Pearl tampon ad I found in an InTouch magazine. The exigence for this ad is that the
company feels not enough people are buying this brand of tampons due to the many other brands that
sell similar products. Because of this, the purpose of this advertisement is to get more people to buy
their tampons over the many other companies. When flipping through the magazine this ad is located
in the first thing I noticed was the cliff view overlooking the water. The way it captured my attention
was what the marketers meant for it to do. The beautiful scene was a good way for them to get people
s attention because of lots of people because it is it a way mesmerizing. In the advertisement is a
scenic picture of a cliff overlooking the dark blue water. Along the cliff is a winding road where a

Abstract: The report below is a decision support paper for the Transportation Service Administration
directorate, which is a directorate under the department of homeland security. The main purpose of
this directorate is to ensure the safety of the United States transport infrastructure. The main objective
of this paper is to analyze the objectives of the TSA and determine whether they are in alignment with
the objectives of the department of homeland security. This ensures that the directorate works towards
achieving the overall goal of the DHS as stipulated in its objectives. This ensures efficiency as
duplication of roles with other directorates in the DHS is eliminated. The report will also examine the
agencies priorities in order to determine whether they are aligned with the departmental priorities. Any
noted misalignments will be identified and recommendations provided on aligning them. Purpose
statement:
The Transportation Service Administration directorate is a directorate under the department of
homeland security tasked with ensuring the safety of the United States transport infrastructure
(Department of Homeland Security, 2016). The United States has some porous borders that lead to the
policies in place for migration being ineffective. This has resulted in security challenges for the
country. The main aim

Abstract
Steve Cowan is the owner of a distribution company of salon hair products. The company,
Professional Salon Concepts, (PSC) was growing and decided to upgrade their AIS to support the
demands of the company. Steve hired Mike, his brother in law to assist him and the two of them began
to research the different products available believing they could better determine the needs of the
company than a consultant could. After a short time they bought first one and then changing their
minds and bought a second system. After a short training period the new system was installed with
some very problematic first few days. Eventually the system was up ... Show more content on

Missing Features
How could PSC have avoided the problem of the missing features? If PSC had gotten RFPs the
problem of missing features in the system they chose would have been eliminated during the vendor
selection process. However, in the route they did take those features that were important to Steve but
were not included in the AIS could have been included by having a systems requirements list and a
written contract with the specifications explicitly written out.
Conversion and Reporting
How could PSC have avoided some of the conversion and reporting problems it faced? As I stated
before, more time was needed in the testing and training portion of the conversion before the new AIS
went online. One trick I learned from our own system change at the city I work in is to train a few
operators on the new systems during the testing phase and then have them train a few more in their
own departments. By using your own employees to train each other they are gaining a better
understanding of how the system works. This way on the day of the change you have more people
who understand the system and how to fix or correct the things that can go wrong. The more people
you can have trained this way before the system change the better off you will be at the critical
moment.

Should Brahm Be Considered A Conservative Or Conservative...
A controversial topic in music history is the question: Should Brahms be considered a conservative or
progressive composer? It is a difficult question to answer, with many different things to take into
account. In this essay I will try and explore various points of view on this topic, with reference to
musical examples, and then come to a conclusion with which argument I personally believe to be the
truest of them all. Brahms was a composer at a time of great change in the world of music. He was at
the tipping point at which the classical era was coming to an end and the romantic era was just
beginning. The composers typically considered progressives were the advocates of the Romantic
Movement; the composers who were considered conservative wanted to ... Show more content on

Brahms wanted to progress music further, but with it s foundations set strongly in the work of the
classical and baroque period composers. He wanted to, and he did, expand, develop, and reinvigorate
the classical style of music. Wagner, Liszt, and other composers were the beginning of a new period in
music. They revolutionised music and the progress they made has had an everlasting effect. Just
because Brahms was not part of this movement does not mean he did not contribute to the progress of
music. He developed Symphonies to a stage they had very rarely seen before. His work influenced the
development of future symphonies, and that is progress. Brahms managed to be a progressive
composer in a conservative form of music. So to say Brahms was both a conservative and progressive
composer is a valid opinion.
Throughout this essay I have explored the various different ways in which you can view Brahms: a
misunderstood progressive, a stubborn conservative, or perhaps a progressive in a style unappreciated

The Arab Spring

Submitted on: November 26, 2014 Discuss the structural factors which contributed to the onset of the
Arab Spring in 2011. Based on what you learned about the origins of revolutions in this class, was this
wave of contention inevitable?
The term Arab Spring has emerged in academic literature as well as in the general media from about
early 2011. It refers to the awakening of some Arab nations and the movements to replace
authoritarian regimes with democratic ones. The theme of spring and awakening seems to have been
borrowed from the 1989 reform movements in the former Eastern block nations, such as in the former
German Democratic Republic or Hungary. However, this comparison has been criticised by some
analysts since both the circumstances which have led to these movements as well as the outcome of
these reform efforts seem to differ quite a lot. Yet, the Arab Spring term seems to be still widely used
and even found an extension in the creation of the term Arab Winter which refers to events that
happened in 2012 in some Arab countries during which these reform movements seemed to have
cooled off and particular nations, such as Egypt, attempted to go back to the status quo of the pre 2011
era.
The term Arab Spring has been

its own significance and had beautiful artwork. The first exhibit I visited was in the Chevron Gallery.
This gallery was filled with oil paintings of landscapes, still life, and abstract paintings. The best thing
about this exhibit was how it was prepared by the summer art camp program called A Fresh Look .
The summer art program is where a group of children, ages 7 to 12, study major elements of art and

Software Projects And Risk Exposure Among Student Software...
development. In a company, there are many factors beyond pure coding affecting the whole project
development process. Unstable organization environment, corporate politics with negative effect on
the project, or change in organizational management during the project etc. in a company will all have
impacts on the project. However, for students developers, these issues are not within the consideration
most of the times.
The realization of huge differences on potential risks between students software projects and industrial
software projects drives us to analyze risks among student population more closely and independently
from existing work. To gain more insight into the risk exposure among student software project
developers, especially under the following two different scenarios which are two common forms of
practice for student groups: developing the software project by an individual or by a small team (3 or
4 people in a team). Studying the relationship between individual/team based software projects and
risk exposure among student groups is quite useful and interesting. As far as we can see, it is the first
time to conduct risk analysis only based on student groups and it is hoped that we could give student
developers more guidance on risk management policies, which corresponding risks analysis is based
on student groups but not professional fields, thus lessening software project risks and improving
projects performance.

Bullying Is The Job Of Parents And Schools
Bullying is when you force someone to do something they do not want to, and it can cause stress or
then leads to suicide in some cases. In Schoolyard Bullies by Stephanie Simon, prosecutor James
Backstrom maintains school bullies should go to jail. However, I do not think bullies should go to jail,
because there are different degrees of bullying. Some bullies are victims, and sending bullies to jail
does not cure them. Stopping bullying is the job of parents and schools. Parents play a key role in
preventing and responding to bullying. Parents should recognize the warning signs that the child is
involved in bullying. Children could be being bullied, bullying others, or witnessing bullying.
Although these signs could signal other issues, parents should talk to their children if they display any
sort of behavioral or emotional changes. Many times children won t ask for help, so it is important to
know what to look for. If the child is at immediate risk of harming himself or others, parents need to
get help right away. Just sending the children who are bullies to go to jail, and doing jail time are not a
good way to correct children s behaviors. I understand the rationale . . . , but incarceration is a fairly
big stick, says Susan Limber, a bullying expert at Clemson University. You can get the same payoff
with a lot less drastic measures (Simon 2). Moreover, if the children go to jail, they might not change
their mind, even though their behavior will be

Recycling Bins In Public Places Essay
This image may seem familiar. Walking down the street and noticing endless rows of trash cans in
which to throw away your garbage. But have you ever thought about why there aren t many recycling
bins in public places. The reason for this is that the prices of recycling are booming. In turn, less and
less people are wanting to pay these extreme prices. The lack of recycling in public places leads to
many problems like high costs of production, loss of resources, land overfill, and numerous more.
Because there aren t many recycling bins in public places, people aren t as encouraged to recycle
which is harmful for the environment. Some may argue that a greater amount of people recycle
because the availability of recycling is increasing year by year. But still, ...according to Ipsos Public
Affairs survey, only half of adults recycle daily (Schumaker 1). WIth so few people recycling, there
are more ways that we are destroying our environment. Since these adults aren t recycling, our youth
will continue to follow their ways and will expand the problem. Teaching children, who are our future,
to recycle gives our country a better chance at improving our environment. The ratio from trash bins to
recycling bins is yet to be remotely balanced. There are plenty more trash cans at public venues
compared to recycling bins. If there were more recycling bins in public places, then it would motivate
more people to recycle. The United States needs to figure out a method to make more

The Addict By Michael Stein
Introduction
The non fictional novel The Addict offers a current perspective through the author s eyes, Michael
Stein, into the trials and tribulations that one has to go through when being an opiate addict. The
processes that addicts go through becomes instantly examinable, offering insight into how individuals
become addicted and what they go through while trying to become rehabilitated. Lucy Fields is the
main patient described by Michael Stein in this book. Lucy is addicted to Vicodin and has been
addicted for a number of years. Despite many social stigmas associated around addicts, becoming
addicted to anything does not happen in a short amount of time. The context in which a person is
living, their socioeconomic status, their social support and perceived social support are all factors in
becoming addicted or rehabilitated. Throughout the book Michael Stein speaks about multiple patients
and refers to buprenorphine as the primary prescribed drug for opiate users, he also refers to
methadone treatment. The effectiveness of buprenorphine was shown through the book and how it is,
with the help of adequate social and medical support, a viable option with regards to treating opiate
addiction. Addiction to opiates is developing and continues to be a large problem in many countries.
Substitution for such opiates in pharmacotherapy has shown to reduce the use of illicit drugs and the
potential criminal behavior that is associated with taking opiates (Merrill J, Alterman A,

How does the temperature and the surface area to volume ratio of water affect the rate of water
evaporation?
We believe the rate of water evaporation is affected by the temperature and surface area to volume
ratio. The hotter the temperature of the water is, the faster it evaporates, while lower temperatures
slow down the process of evaporation. Also, the bigger the surface area is, the quicker water
evaporates, while water in containers with smaller surface areas take longer to evaporate. We carried
out two experiments to prove our claim.
One of the experiments we conducted was the temperature experiment, in which our independent
variable was temperature. First, we measured 100 milliliters in two beakers of the same size. We put
the first beaker on a hot plate with the setting on 2 for 22 minutes. When we took it off, there were 83
milliliters left in the beaker, meaning 17 milliliters had evaporated. ... Show more content on

In order to carry out this experiment, we had to go through the process of multiple steps. First, we
measured 100 ml of water in two different sized square containers. The bigger container had a surface
area of 225 centimeters squared, while the smaller container s surface area was 100 cmշ. Next, we put
both containers under a heat lamp for an equal amount of time. Then we set the containers aside. After
3 days, we revisited the containers and measured how much water had evaporated. The bigger
container had only 22 ml of water left, meaning 78 ml had evaporated in the 3 days, while the smaller
container still had 46 ml left, suggesting that 54 milliliters of water had evaporated over the course of
the 3 days. After recording our data, we came to the conclusion that the bigger the surface area of the
container is, the faster water evaporates, while water evaporates slower in smaller surface

Carnegie, the Selfish Philanthropist
Andrew Carnegie, The Selfish Philanthropist
Andrew Carnegie, born on November 25, 1835, was a Scottish philanthropist who was one of the
richest men in America in the 1900 s. I completely agree with Carnegie s opinion of how the rich
should donate their money toward the good of mankind before they die, but disagree with his actions
toward his workers . He started working in a cotton mill making $1.20 a week only to upgrade to
$2.20 working as a messenger boy. He eventually taught himself telegraphy and worked as Thomas A.
Scott s assistant for $35 a month. He moved on to investing, with the help from his mentor Scott, in

that he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This also prevents the family member or the heirs of the inheritance to be spoiled. Carnegie had a
great point for doing this. For some strange reason, Carnegie cut the wages of his steel workers while
at the same time putting money toward public programs that would benefit mankind. He even stated
that he could put more use of that money than the workers ever could, which is ridiculously egotistical
and rude. By not giving his workers a fair wage, he was hurting the economy. Our economy is based
off of consumers spending their money. In my honest opinion, I think Carnegie is a selfish attention
seeking mastermind. He seems very sensitive to what other people think of him. Don t get me wrong,
he sounds like a nice, caring, and independent man. His intentions though, are outweighed by the
means and basis for his profit: unfair and underpaid labor. The money that he made from his steel
factory was ironically against his giving attitude that he was trying to generate. I think that after he
realized that he would never have to worry about his financial situation ever again, he focused on
becoming a public figure and cared about the public opinion of himself. An example to prove this
would be how he reacted to the steel strikes. While he was visiting Scotland, his next in command
(Henry Clay Frick) replaced all of the strikers with immigrants. This action is said to have caused the
death of 10 men. Carnegie took the

The Things They Carried By Tim O Brien
The Things They Carried is a breathtaking and captivating powerful war story memoir, which is
beautifully and intensely well written by Tim O Brien. The novel explores the physical and emotional
trauma of the Vietnam War and its impact on soldiers fears. The author and protagonist Tim O Brien
communicates provoking nonlinear narratives or frame stories through his own point of view
presenting the audience with a window into the disturbing widespread, endless, and meaningless
death, violence, and savagery in war torn Vietnam. The author cleverly uses different literary devices
such as imagery, irony, symbolism, repetition and figurative language to grab the reader s attention

soldiers whose lives were largely forgotten by society despite their opposition to the war and to reflect
the real gripping emotional truth of what it was like to be a soldier in Vietnam and a veteran suffering

event in American history, he distinguishes the physical, emotional and psychological aspect of war.

Washington Dc And How The Location Of Howard University
After I obtain my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, I would like to go to medical school. I ve
always wanted to attend Howard College of Medicine. Primarily, because of the program they have
there and the fact that they focus on serving underserved communities. With that, I also really love the
location of the school. Howard University is located in the District of Columbia, our nation s capital. I
m going to discuss Washington DC and how the location of Howard University plays a role in the
school s significance. Washington DC is located on the east coast of the United States, sandwiched
between two states, Maryland and Virginia. The city itself is only 68.3 square miles big. The elevation
is 0 ft. above sea level at its lowest point and 410 ft. above sea level at its highest point. This area is
located on the North American Plate. DC isn t often affected by earthquakes. The nearest fault line is
west of the city which runs through Virginia and Maryland. Most times when DC experience s
earthquakes it s because of that.
The District of Columbia is essentially located on the Potomac River. The Potomac River is a river
that s about 405 miles long and it flows into the Chesapeake Bay. Also the Anacostia River and the
Rock Creek river run through the city and both flow into the Potomac River. Washington DC also has

A Literary Analysis Of Dsire s Baby By Kate Chopin
A Literary Analysis of Désirée s Baby Désirée s Baby , a short story written by Kate Chopin, delves
straightaway into serious matters one such example is the racial and gender injustices that occurred
during the era of slavery. The plot follows the life of a young woman, Désirée, from her mysterious
and unknown origins to being the wife of a wealthy aristocrat. Her life is suddenly shattered when she
realizes that, to her horror, her son s features resemble the ones of the race that is cursed with the
brand of slavery . Chopin uses many literary devices throughout her text, such as setting, symbolism,
theme, and irony to illustrate to her readers how inherent prejudices, be they of race or gender,
negatively affect all factions involved in the respective affair, rather than only those deemed inferior.
Firstly, Chopin establishes the setting in the southern state of Louisiana sometime before the Civil
War. This historical setting affects the thinking and beliefs of majority of the characters in the short
story. Armand no longer loved his wife simply because of the unconscious injury she had brought
upon his home and his name . That is, Armand did not care for his wife and child because he believed
and considered them to be an inferior race. The idea that he brought blacks into his home and made
them his family not only disgusted him, but brought him shame. Another aspect that characterized the
setting was the use of the word bayou , a common Louisiana word. In the end

Antilock Brakes Antilock brakes are impressive performers on the test track and in television

The reason why anti locks are not making the expected and much projected difference is because
many drivers lack the knowledge and experience need to use ABS (Anti lock Braking System)

II. What Anti lock brakes do and don t do Many car owners don t know how to use antilock brakes
effectively and the manuals that come with their automobiles offer little help. Some of the manuals
don t spell out how using antilock brakes is different from using regular brakes. Some manufacturers
provide no instructions at all. Traditionally, drivers are trained to brake gently on slippery roads or to
pump their brakes to avoid a skid. But it is firm, continuous brake pressure that is required to activate
anti locks, which should never be pumped. This is exactly what the antilock feature does for the driver
automatically, it pumps the brakes many times a second. With the driver pumping antilock brakes
during a skid, braking effectiveness may be reduced to the point of not having brakes at all. Because
of misconceptions about the circumstances in which antilock brakes can help, it s useful to review
what they can and cannot do. In normal braking, a vehicle slows as its wheels are gradually brought to
a stop. Without antilock brakes, hard or emergency braking will cause the wheels to lock before the
vehicle comes to a halt. In this case, some or all of the tires skid along the road. How the vehicle skids
depends on the coefficient of friction, or drag factor, between the tires and the road surface. A vehicle
may skid forward in a straight line or it may

Arranged Marriage In America
Americans should consider a less conventional way of meeting a potential partner that would one day
be their future husband/wife. An arranged marriage is another option people should consider when
finding a person to settle down with. Such arrangement is not forcing anyone into marriage instead it
is a mutual decision. A professor of Sociology conducted a study that showed 35% of 200 married
couples in America would press a button that could dissolve their marriage if they were given the
chance to (Folsom 1). Marriages that suffer a serious dissatisfaction are due to the premature
knowledge of their spouse and impulsive actions. It is safe to say, that over one half of all marriages in

Song Analysis Of Chicken Fried By Zac Brown
I have chosen a song that I would say is a country song. It is actually a song that I have known for
many years and that I actually taken ato. This song would be Chicken Fried by Zac Brown. In this
song, Brown sings about things such as enjoying his evenings with family and getting to dine on his
favorite meals, being raised in the South, and giving thanks to God and the people who fought for the
freedom of our nation. In the chorus, he is described to the listener that he is with his family, and
presumably friends as well, enjoying each other s company on a Friday night. He also explained
getting to eat some fried chicken, drink beer, and listen to the radio. He then mentions that he was
born and raised in Georgia Pine. Then in the next

California s Gold Rush
Gold! Gold! Gold from the American River! shouted Samuel Brannan, a newspaper publicist from San
Francisco, following the discovery of gold in California (Rhodes 168). This event sparked a new era
of immigration to California in 1848. The gold rush began on January 24, 1848 when gold was found
by James Marshall, a foreman for John Sutter, at Sutter s Mill in Coloma, California (Bancroft 32).
Initially the news was kept a secret due to the risk of a massive wave of gold seekers interfering with
Sutter s land and agricultural plans. However, by March of 1848, Samuel Brannan s flamboyant
confirmation to the rumors created the California gold rush. Hordes of people from around the world
traveled to California in search for gold and success. San Francisco s population exponentially grew
from a small settlement of about 200 residents in 1846 to a city of about 36,000 by 1852 (Johnson 12
14). As news spread, the event became known worldwide. The gold rush in California was a vital
event that became the basis for the social and economic boom that subsequently fashioned global
fame, an influx of settlers and, as a result, the 31st addition to the union as The Golden State .
California s gold rush began on March 1848. Just two months prior, gold was discovered in Sutter s
mill. The news was never meant to spread over anywhere else but, to their dismay, the news for gold
discovered was far too immense to be kept a secret for too long. As rumors circulated then were
confirmed,

The Symbolism Of Another Brick In The Wall
Sean Leahy, an Australian cartoonist released a political cartoon Lazarus quits PUP to satirically
represent the departure of several members of the Palmer United Party, which was created and run by
Australian mining magnate Clive Palmer. The cartoon itself is a re creation of the nursery rhyme
Humpty Dumpty, in which he falls of a brick wall. Leahy s cartoon displays Humpty Dumpty as
Palmer, who is falling besides a deteriorating brick wall. Four specific bricks are of interest as three
have been displayed with the surnames Douglas, Judge and Lambie. The brick adjacent to Clive is
displayed with a face, singing, We don t need no thought control which is a lyric from Another Brick
in the Wall , a song created by Pink Floyd. The amalgamation ... Show more content on

A notable aspect of irony presented in the cartoon has been shown with the placement of the brick
wall. The characteristics of brick walls are strong, firm and robust which is ironic, as the wall in the
cartoon is shown curved and deteriorating. Another element of irony in the cartoon is the
representation of Palmer as Humpty as Humpty Dumpty is interpreted as a kind figure worthy of
assistance as the most known iteration of the rhyme states that all the king s horses and all the king s
men couldn t put humpty together again (Wikipedia, 2015). This is ironic as multiple reports state that
members of the PUP abandoned the party due to the mistreatment by Palmer. (theage, businessinsider,
2015) Within the cartoon, Leahy has provoked the thought of irony, while simultaneously displaying
parody. Parody, the final satirical device, has been deployed by Leahy to further ridicule the PUP. The
artwork is a parody of Humpty Dumpty. Having Palmer as Humpty falling off the brick wall has
represented the nursery rhyme. However in this iteration of Humpty Dumpty the brick wall is
crumbling with him, ridiculing the fact that most of his political party have separated to become
independent politicians, due to Palmers actions. Leahy in his cartoon has used parody to ridicule the

Contrast of “Gilgamesh” and “The Flood”
Not doing suitably what you are advised to do, are human downfalls having no recompense; whereas,
following the rules on timely basis will be the most worthwhile outcome. Contrasting the Benjamin R.
Foster s and Stephen Mitchell s translation Gilgamesh, to the Robert Altar s translation The Flood,
each story has a very different emphasis and draws a different moral. The emphasis of Gilgamesh,
becoming eternal and what steps can be taken to receive it. However, the emphasis of The Flood is
true righteousness will give a prolonged life. The different emphasis of each story causes the moral of
each story to be different. For instance, Gilgamesh teaches; not doing what is advised will cause lost

The Importance Of Social Anxiety
I am interested in why so many people suffer from Social Anxiety. It is significant because social
anxiety is a huge problem today that is often overlooked. I think that the advancement of technology
has had an effect on the way that people act towards each other, as well as the way children are being
raised, and the need for people to feel like they fit in, which has allowed for an uprising of social
anxiety disorder. The topic of social anxiety interests me because I think it is something that I myself
have. It confuses me as to why people care about what other people think about them, myself
included.
When trying to find a topic to write about, I started to think about the things that are in my everyday
life. I thought of many things, like what I like to do on a day to day basis, why I do the things that I
do, and why I act the way I act. Thinking about these things it made me think about why I act the way
I act and how my decisions make me feel, which then lead me to think about what was behind my
feelings. When thinking about it I suddenly realized that social situations made me feel uncomfortable.
Social situations made me feel very uncomfortable and also extremely aware of everything that wasn t
right about me. Sometimes as human beings we desire to be like everyone else and fit in, people with
social anxiety avoid social interactions because of how uncomfortable and self conscious they make
them feel. This causes people to have anxiety whenever they are in social situations. That is why
avoiding social situations is easier for people who suffer from social anxiety disorder because the
chance that they will be humiliated or embarrassed is too high. I could be considered a shy person, I
don t like to talk to others, but it s not because I am unable to, it is because I don t want to. However,
that is when I realized that it might be Social Anxiety. It wasn t that I couldn t handle social situations,
it was that it gave me anxiety to put myself out there in front of everyone to just trample on. Thinking
about myself in social situations it made me think about why it matters. I mean, why does it matter
what other people think of you? You are who you are and nobody can change that. Which started me

The Unmaking Nichole Nordman Analysis
The lyrics of Nichole Nordman s The Unmaking have been 10 years in the making for the Dove award

The following decade resulted in a complete upheaval for the singer/songwriter, largely due to the end

The Tale Of Three Brothers
Fairy tales have an enormous impact on the world we live in. They are used as tools to teach children
life lessons in such a way that doesn t scare them, but does prepare them for the harsh realities of the
world. We have many such examples in our own lives, it seems only natural that the wizarding world
would have their own. One interesting thing about wizarding fairy tales is that unlike their muggle
counterparts, magic is a good force. While good magic does exist in muggle fairy tales, for instance
Cinderella s godmother, more often than not it is portrayed as the evil weapon in the story. The Tale of
Three Brothers is a story where Death is a character. He greets three brothers who have used their
knowledge in the magical arts to cheat him. Instead of killing them on the spot, he grants them each a
gift. The eldest chooses an unbeatable wand, the middle plots to humiliate death further by asking for
a stone that can raise the dead, while the youngest asks for a cloak that will shield its wearer from
being followed by Death. The three brothers soon part ways and choose their own paths, and
ultimately their deaths. The first is murdered after he boasts loudly about being unbeatable, the second
kills himself after finding that the stone cannot truly bring anyone back, but the third lives a long and
full life and greets death as an old friend (Rowling, 93). In The Four Accomplished Brothers, a fairy

Critical Speech In Perils Of Indifference By Elie Wiesel
Romanian born American Jewish writer, professor, political activist, Nobel Laureate, and Holocaust
survivor, Elie Wiesel in his critical speech, Perils of Indifference, maintains the idea that indifference
is inhumane. He supports his claim by using his personal experience in the Holocaust. Additionally, it
states in paragraph 9 that They were dead and did not know it. emphasizes how indifference has made
the Muselmann completely unaware of their fate. Further, it states in paragraph 8 that Indifference can
be tempting... troublesome... and can make our lives meaningless. Wiesel s purpose is to warn the
people that change is needed in order to encourage the people to make a change in the world for the
better so something as tragic and devastating like the Holocaust never happens again. He establishes a
critical tone for readers by using stylistic devices and rhetorical devices such as imagery,
contemplative questions, and word choice in order to achieve his message that indifference is
inhumane. Wiesel s message about the inhumanity of indifference and the importance of resistance is
still relevant today. Unfortunately, although Elie Wiesel and much of the world hoped nothing like the
Holocaust would ever happen again, there have been other cases of genocide later after the Holocaust.
For example, in the year 1991, the The Bosnian War and Srebrenica Genocide took place ( The
Bosnian War ). In 1991, Yugoslavia began to break up along ethnic lines, causing a surge of ethnic
groups trying to seize the power in government ( The Bosnian War ). When the republic of Bosnia and

In the article The Bosnian War and Srebrenica Genocide the Serbs were a group who rapidly rose to

management works. It is the key to understanding how to read the outcome of the integer programing
problem we have created. It gives guidelines and charts if a brand or style of a brand should be
dropped and replaced with something similar. It also provides an idea of using binary numbers as your

on economic trends. This leads the reader to realize they are talking about an EOQ (Economic Order

How Does Salt Affect The Height Of Ice Cream
Title: What is the effect of salt content on the height of ice cream?
Purpose
The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice cream formations.
Background Information
To make ice cream you need milk, half and half, sugar and vanilla. All of these products make ice
cream, but they must be cooled down. That is where salt comes in. Just like when salt is spread on
roads in cold weather to prevent freezing roads, salt in ice cream allows the freezing point to decrease.
Since ice cream isn t just water, salt is needed to make the ice creams temperature below 32 degrees
Fahrenheit. The salt makes the mixture of ice cream colder than with just ice. By mixing the ice and
salt, the freezing point gets lowered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the amount of salt (Tbsp.) increased, so did the height of Ice cream. When two Tbsp. of salt were
used, the data resulted in 4.8 cm, 3.1 cm, and 3.4 cm. When the control (6 Tbsp.) were used, the height
resulted in 7.5 cm, 8.4 cm, and 5.9 cm. Ten Tbsp. resulted in 5.2 cm, 11.4 cm, and 9.8 cm. As one can
see, increasing the amount of salt, showed an increase in the height of Ice cream.
Conclusion
The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice cream formations.
The question the lab asked was What variable needs to be changed to produce greater ice cream
height? The hypothesis was If the salt content increases, then the ice cream formation will yield taller
formations.
The hypothesis was supported. As the salt content went from 2 Tbsp., 6 Tbsp., and 10 Tbsp. The
average went up from 3.6 cm per 2 Tbsp. to 7.2 cm per 6 Tbsp. to 8.8 cm per 10 Tbsp. The principle
guiding the outcome, was the salt, lowering the freezing point.

Analysis Of Dirtwork In EuripidesThe Bacchae
3218
Dirtwork in Euripides The Bacchae
The Bacchae represent the irrational aspects of religion, and this is neither simply reverent or
irreverent toward religion. The play, The Bacchae can easily be interpreted as a cautionary tale about
the dangers of neglecting worship or as a cautionary tale about the dangers of placing too much trust
in human rationality. If the play s main intent was to describe the dangers of neglecting worship or to
describe the dangers of relying heavily of human rationality, then Bacchae would not be portrayed
negatively. I will argue that these interpretations, while true to some degree, are oversimplifications of
the message that Euripides conveys, and that a stronger interpretation is that the play is commentary
on the human struggle to harmonize our desire to individuate and our desire to unify. The play
describes the conflict between Pentheus need to define boundaries and the Bacchae s desire to
eliminate boundaries. Pentheus and the
Bacchae show what occurs when one desire overpowers the other. The conflict between
Pentheus and the Bacchae is an external representation of the internal conflict between the two needs,
that we observe in characters like Pentheus.
The Bacchae represent an irrational aspect of religion because they are portrayed as victims of
groupthink. The Bacchae do not think for themselves, and reject the idea of thinking for themselves.
This is shown here when the Bacchae chorus sings, A tongue

deal to start. The truth is tanning is convenient method utilized by many individuals to gain skin tone
and color, builds self esteem and promote relaxation. It can be beneficial in many aspects of our lives
as well as an alternative to more harmful exposure but there are always risks at everything you do.
Dermatologists today are against it for the simple fact that they believe it causes skin cancer.
According to NCI (National Cancer Institute) exposure to UV radiation whether from the sun or from
artificial sources such as sunlamps utilized in tanning beds increases of developing skin cancer. IRAC

Being capable of doing this would be beneficial to some people because it doesn t take as long and
sitting out in the sun. There is a controlled dosage of the ultraviolet rays to reassure the consumer does
not receive a large amount of UV ray, these dosages should be spread out over several sessions. A
great aspect of tanning is clients get privacy in their own booth. Weight, being too white, tan lines and
uncomfortable bathing suits are not an issue with the tanning beds. Another advantage to tanning is it
is all year round. It doesn t matter if it is snowing or raining outside you can still get the benefit of a
captivating skin color.
Indoor tanning beds can have a negative impact on your skin. It can cause premature wrinkles, rashes,
and can cause cancer. Tanning is like a slow cooker that can slowly affect your skin and your aging
process. When tanning it is suggested to ask the salon staff the recommended exposure limits for your
skin type. Always precautious when you decide to tan for example if you do not wear goggles then it
can damage your ocular perceivers such as losing your vision. Wearing indoor sunscreen would be a
good precaution for your skin and you should consider your medical history for going tanning.
Secondly, knowing the type of bulbs when tanning is very important. The tanning lamps release
ultraviolet rays your body can tan. They contain: inert gasses, a little mercury, and phosphorus
coating.

California Water Crisis Essay
The drought in California isn t even close to seeing an end, in the article Solutions to California Water
Crisis From Half a World Away by Stephen Stock, Michael Bott, Jeremy Carroll and Felipe Escamilla,
it reports that California needs to brace itself for multiple decades more of this monumental drought
and that it going to take trillions of gallons of water to catch up to the state current deficit. They
summarized the severity of this drought by saying that it could rain every day in San Francisco and
Oakland California for the next decade and a half and the state still wouldn t have even made a divot
in the terms of catching up. When there s a shortage in the amount of water available, a state or
country relies on the hidden water supplies underground in aquifers and ground water which they then
drill into to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And for the better part of the last decade the most of that water has been wasted, vanished, and
overused. According to the article California s Drought Is Part of a Much Bigger Water Crisis. Here s
What You Need to Know by Amanda Zamora, Lauren Kircher and Abreham Lustgarten, Acrane laws

opposite where there encouraging the farmers to take more water then they require from not only the
limited amount the Colorado has, but also from the other rivers in California as well. You even have
some federal subsidies encourage farmers to plant some of the crops that use the most water. (Zamora,
Kirchner and Lustgarten) Because of all the overuse, misuse and wasted water the Colorado Rivers
flow has decreased tremendously and that has directly impacted the critical low amount of water that
Lake Mead now holds. The amount of disregard the citizens and leading officials have towards this
severe drought, is what is going to make water the oil of the 21st

Extraction Techniques For Rough Medications
Extraction, as the term is utilized pharmaceutically, includes the partition of restoratively dynamic
segments of plant or creature tissues from the idle or latent parts by utilizing particular solvents as a
part of standard extraction strategies. The items so acquired from plants are generally polluted fluids,
semisolids or powders expected just for oral or outside use. These incorporate classes of arrangements
known as decoctions, implantations, liquid removes, tinctures, pilular (semisolid) separates and
powdered concentrates. Such arrangements famously have been called galenicals, named after Galen,
the second century Greek doctor. The motivations behind institutionalized extraction techniques for
rough medications are to achieve the restoratively sought divide and to wipe out the dormant material
by treatment with a specific dissolvable known as menstrum. The concentrate along these lines got
might be prepared for use as a restorative specialists in the type of tinctures and liquid concentrates, it
might be further prepared to be fused in any dose frame, for example, tablets or cases, or it might be
fractionated to seclude singular concoction substances, for example, ajmalicine, hyoscine also,
vincristine, which are modem drugs. In this way, institutionalization of extraction strategies
contributes fundamentally to the last nature of the home grown medication. The concoction properties
of the analyte are critical to an extraction, just like the properties of the fluid

Datril Case
My recommendation to Marvin Koslow is to follow the first approach of pricing Datril at par with
Tylenol ($2.85 retail price, $1.69 trade cost), leveraging Bristol Myers brand name, and positioning
Datril as an analgesic with similar relief effects to the those of the already successful, aspirin based
Bufferin and Excedin, but more gentle on the stomach, and without the side effects of aspirin. By
doing so, Datril will primarily target aspirin users, specifically those from Bufferin s and Excedin s
current consumer base, who suffer from upset stomach. I explain my rationale below. According to the
case, when Datril was introduced to test markets per the strategy I recommended, it failed to achieve
the projected sales figures within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is Bristol Myers main competitive advantage; its own consumers who may suffer from the typical
side effects of aspirin. Targeting those specific customers and communicating to them the value of
eliminated side effects should be Datril s positioning and differentiating strategy. Cannibalization from
Bufferin and Excedin, should it happen, should not necessarily be viewed negatively, since my
recommended selling price of $2.85 is double that of these aspirin products.
Exhibit A Break Even Analysis for Tylenol and the different pricing scenarios for Datril (per bottle

Assumptions: 1. As per the case, unit cost for producing each bottle of acetaminophen based tablets
(including Tylenol and Datril) is 60 cents 2. The trade cost for Approach 1 was assumed to be $1.69 in
order for the pricing scenario to be perfectly equal to that of Tylenol (i.e. unit cost, trade cost, and
ultimately selling price to end customers). 3. For simplicity, advertising is the only fixed

A Glance At Modern Society

AP Language and Composition

Title
At a glance at modern society most would say that it is a close to perfect world. On the contrary, it is
far from perfect; this world is full of war, poverty, and disease. But there more problems on a social
level like stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination causing oppression within society. ... as official
policy decision appear to redefine the importance of human interaction in terms of economic
relationship... Ruiz and Mínguez (2001) observe that such environments prompt immoralities such as
poverty, inequality, and exclusion (qtd. in Lucey, Agnello, and Hawkins 2). Homophobia can be
described as an antipathy towards homosexual individuals. Those individuals are subjected to
prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination in their social and political lives. From the foreword of The
Bluest Eye by Toni Moorison, Moorison states There can t be anyone, I am sure, who doesn t know
what it feels like to be disliked, even rejected, momentarily or for sustained periods of time... It may
even be that some of us know what it is like to be actually hated hated for things we have no control
over and cannot change. Homosexuality has many misconceptions surrounding the lifestyle; from
disease to personality traits. The social life of those individual was not the only thing affected; their
rights as a human being have been restricted. Laws have been made in certain countries that says a

  • 2. My Education Philosophy Personal Mission Statement Education is the imparting and acquiring of knowledge and skills through teaching and learning. As an educator, my personal mission statement is to master my subject area in order to serve as a role model for my students thereby producing students who thoroughly understand the subject matter, and who develop holistically. In order to achieve this goal I must have a set education philosophy with a strong Christian worldview. I must also have a general understanding of the different world and education philosophies. Metaphysics Metaphysics is defined as the branch of philosophy that examines the true nature of reality whether visible or invisible. Metaphysics includes the relationship between mind and matter, substance and attribute, and, fact and value. Idealists believe that only the mental is ultimate reality and that the mental world of ideas is permanent, regular and orderly (Berumen, 2014). They affirm that reality is essentially spiritual or mental and denies the possibility of knowing anything except ideas. Idealists theorize that ultimate reality is solely in the mind and argues that the universe is an expression of highly generalized intelligence and will (Gutek, 1997, p. 18). In summary, Idealists believe that what exists really exists, and cannot be changed because it is permanent, and cannot be new because it is regular. In contrast to Idealists, Pragmatists believes that there are no unchanging or eternal truths. Pragmatists reject ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of Bravery In Life Is Beautiful How does Benigni show the significance of bravery in the film Life is Beautiful? Life is Beautiful (1997), an Italian comedic drama set in 1939, tells the tale of Guido, a young Jewish man living during the time of World War II, the film follows Guido and his family; from when they were happy living freely to when they are forced to work unfairly in concentration camps. Directed by Roberto Benigni, also known for Pinocchio (2002), Life is Beautiful portrays many important themes and messages to the audience. Benigni shows the importance of bravery in the film, through cinematic techniques including camera angles, lighting, and sound. Bravery is likely the most conspicuous theme in Life is Beautiful. It is exhibited throughout the whole film by the cinematography directed by Roberto Benigni. Cinematography includes the different angles, camera movement and editing. Camera angles can affect the audience in many ways. The most common camera angle used in this film is the wide shot as it shows the characters completely not only the main character but all the characters in the foreground and background. To portray the theme of the importance of bravery, Benigni uses a mid shot to grasp the attention of the audience which focuses in on Guido and a German Nazi Officer. In this scene, Guido offers to translate the rules of the concentration camp as he claims to speak German, however Guido only wishes to translate the rules for his son making the rules seem like the rules of ... It is important for a company s name to be out there so they can sell things because if people do not know about their brand then they probably would not buy it. Advertisements are used to convince people that their product is worth spending money on. The advertisement I will be exploring is a Tampax Pearl tampon ad I found in an InTouch magazine. The exigence for this ad is that the company feels not enough people are buying this brand of tampons due to the many other brands that sell similar products. Because of this, the purpose of this advertisement is to get more people to buy their tampons over the many other companies. When flipping through the magazine this ad is located in the first thing I noticed was the cliff view overlooking the water. The way it captured my attention was what the marketers meant for it to do. The beautiful scene was a good way for them to get people s attention because of lots of people because it is it a way mesmerizing. If PSC had gotten RFPs the problem of missing features in the system they chose would have been eliminated during the vendor selection process. However, in the route they did take those features that were important to Steve but were not included in the AIS could have been included by having a systems requirements list and a written contract with the specifications explicitly written out. Conversion and Reporting How could PSC have avoided some of the conversion and reporting problems it faced? As I stated before, more time was needed in the testing and training portion of the conversion before the new AIS went online. One trick I learned from our own system change at the city I work in is to train a few operators on the new systems during the testing phase and then have them train a few more in their own departments. By using your own employees to train each other they are gaining a better understanding of how the system works. This way on the day of the change you have more people who understand the system and how to fix or correct the things that can go wrong. The more people you can have trained this way before the system change the better off you will be at the critical moment. Steve s Analysis Steve s analysis of the numbers is incomplete in my opinion. • 7. Should Brahm Be Considered A Conservative Or Conservative... A controversial topic in music history is the question: Should Brahms be considered a conservative or progressive composer? It is a difficult question to answer, with many different things to take into account. In this essay I will try and explore various points of view on this topic, with reference to musical examples, and then come to a conclusion with which argument I personally believe to be the truest of them all. Brahms was a composer at a time of great change in the world of music. He was at the tipping point at which the classical era was coming to an end and the romantic era was just beginning. The composers typically considered progressives were the advocates of the Romantic Movement; the composers who were considered conservative wanted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brahms wanted to progress music further, but with it s foundations set strongly in the work of the classical and baroque period composers. He wanted to, and he did, expand, develop, and reinvigorate the classical style of music. Wagner, Liszt, and other composers were the beginning of a new period in music. They revolutionised music and the progress they made has had an everlasting effect. Just because Brahms was not part of this movement does not mean he did not contribute to the progress of music. He developed Symphonies to a stage they had very rarely seen before. His work influenced the development of future symphonies, and that is progress. Brahms managed to be a progressive composer in a conservative form of music. So to say Brahms was both a conservative and progressive composer is a valid opinion. Throughout this essay I have explored the various different ways in which you can view Brahms: a misunderstood progressive, a stubborn conservative, or perhaps a progressive in a style unappreciated at the ... Based on what you learned about the origins of revolutions in this class, was this wave of contention inevitable? The term Arab Spring has emerged in academic literature as well as in the general media from about early 2011. It refers to the awakening of some Arab nations and the movements to replace authoritarian regimes with democratic ones. The theme of spring and awakening seems to have been borrowed from the 1989 reform movements in the former Eastern block nations, such as in the former German Democratic Republic or Hungary. However, this comparison has been criticised by some analysts since both the circumstances which have led to these movements as well as the outcome of these reform efforts seem to differ quite a lot. Yet, the Arab Spring term seems to be still widely used and even found an extension in the creation of the term Arab Winter which refers to events that happened in 2012 in some Arab countries during which these reform movements seemed to have cooled off and particular nations, such as Egypt, attempted to go back to the status quo of the pre 2011 era. Unstable organization environment, corporate politics with negative effect on the project, or change in organizational management during the project etc. in a company will all have impacts on the project. However, for students developers, these issues are not within the consideration most of the times. The realization of huge differences on potential risks between students software projects and industrial software projects drives us to analyze risks among student population more closely and independently from existing work. To gain more insight into the risk exposure among student software project developers, especially under the following two different scenarios which are two common forms of practice for student groups: developing the software project by an individual or by a small team (3 or 4 people in a team). Studying the relationship between individual/team based software projects and risk exposure among student groups is quite useful and interesting. As far as we can see, it is the first time to conduct risk analysis only based on student groups and it is hoped that we could give student developers more guidance on risk management policies, which corresponding risks analysis is based on student groups but not professional fields, thus lessening software project risks and improving projects performance. • 11. Bullying Is The Job Of Parents And Schools Bullying is when you force someone to do something they do not want to, and it can cause stress or then leads to suicide in some cases. In Schoolyard Bullies by Stephanie Simon, prosecutor James Backstrom maintains school bullies should go to jail. However, I do not think bullies should go to jail, because there are different degrees of bullying. Some bullies are victims, and sending bullies to jail does not cure them. Stopping bullying is the job of parents and schools. Parents play a key role in preventing and responding to bullying. Parents should recognize the warning signs that the child is involved in bullying. Children could be being bullied, bullying others, or witnessing bullying. Although these signs could signal other issues, parents should talk to their children if they display any sort of behavioral or emotional changes. Many times children won t ask for help, so it is important to know what to look for. If the child is at immediate risk of harming himself or others, parents need to get help right away. Just sending the children who are bullies to go to jail, and doing jail time are not a good way to correct children s behaviors. I understand the rationale . . . , but incarceration is a fairly big stick, says Susan Limber, a bullying expert at Clemson University. You can get the same payoff with a lot less drastic measures (Simon 2). Moreover, if the children go to jail, they might not change their mind, even though their behavior will be ... But have you ever thought about why there aren t many recycling bins in public places. The reason for this is that the prices of recycling are booming. In turn, less and less people are wanting to pay these extreme prices. The lack of recycling in public places leads to many problems like high costs of production, loss of resources, land overfill, and numerous more. Because there aren t many recycling bins in public places, people aren t as encouraged to recycle which is harmful for the environment. Some may argue that a greater amount of people recycle because the availability of recycling is increasing year by year. But still, ...according to Ipsos Public Affairs survey, only half of adults recycle daily (Schumaker 1). WIth so few people recycling, there are more ways that we are destroying our environment. Since these adults aren t recycling, our youth will continue to follow their ways and will expand the problem. Teaching children, who are our future, to recycle gives our country a better chance at improving our environment. The ratio from trash bins to recycling bins is yet to be remotely balanced. The Addict By Michael Stein Introduction The non fictional novel The Addict offers a current perspective through the author s eyes, Michael Stein, into the trials and tribulations that one has to go through when being an opiate addict. The processes that addicts go through becomes instantly examinable, offering insight into how individuals become addicted and what they go through while trying to become rehabilitated. Lucy Fields is the main patient described by Michael Stein in this book. Lucy is addicted to Vicodin and has been addicted for a number of years. Despite many social stigmas associated around addicts, becoming addicted to anything does not happen in a short amount of time. The context in which a person is living, their socioeconomic status, their social support and perceived social support are all factors in becoming addicted or rehabilitated. Throughout the book Michael Stein speaks about multiple patients and refers to buprenorphine as the primary prescribed drug for opiate users, he also refers to methadone treatment. The effectiveness of buprenorphine was shown through the book and how it is, with the help of adequate social and medical support, a viable option with regards to treating opiate addiction. Addiction to opiates is developing and continues to be a large problem in many countries. Substitution for such opiates in pharmacotherapy has shown to reduce the use of illicit drugs and the potential criminal behavior that is associated with taking opiates (Merrill J, Alterman A, ... We believe the rate of water evaporation is affected by the temperature and surface area to volume ratio. The hotter the temperature of the water is, the faster it evaporates, while lower temperatures slow down the process of evaporation. Also, the bigger the surface area is, the quicker water evaporates, while water in containers with smaller surface areas take longer to evaporate. We carried out two experiments to prove our claim. One of the experiments we conducted was the temperature experiment, in which our independent variable was temperature. First, we measured 100 milliliters in two beakers of the same size. We put the first beaker on a hot plate with the setting on 2 for 22 minutes. When we took it off, there were 83 milliliters left in the beaker, meaning 17 milliliters had evaporated. ... He even stated that he could put more use of that money than the workers ever could, which is ridiculously egotistical and rude. By not giving his workers a fair wage, he was hurting the economy. Our economy is based off of consumers spending their money. In my honest opinion, I think Carnegie is a selfish attention seeking mastermind. He seems very sensitive to what other people think of him. Don t get me wrong, he sounds like a nice, caring, and independent man. The money that he made from his steel factory was ironically against his giving attitude that he was trying to generate. I think that after he realized that he would never have to worry about his financial situation ever again, he focused on becoming a public figure and cared about the public opinion of himself. A Literary Analysis Of Dsire s Baby By Kate Chopin A Literary Analysis of Désirée s Baby Désirée s Baby , a short story written by Kate Chopin, delves straightaway into serious matters one such example is the racial and gender injustices that occurred during the era of slavery. The plot follows the life of a young woman, Désirée, from her mysterious and unknown origins to being the wife of a wealthy aristocrat. Her life is suddenly shattered when she realizes that, to her horror, her son s features resemble the ones of the race that is cursed with the brand of slavery . Chopin uses many literary devices throughout her text, such as setting, symbolism, theme, and irony to illustrate to her readers how inherent prejudices, be they of race or gender, negatively affect all factions involved in the respective affair, rather than only those deemed inferior. Firstly, Chopin establishes the setting in the southern state of Louisiana sometime before the Civil War. This historical setting affects the thinking and beliefs of majority of the characters in the short story. Armand no longer loved his wife simply because of the unconscious injury she had brought upon his home and his name . That is, Armand did not care for his wife and child because he believed and considered them to be an inferior race. What Anti lock brakes do and don t do Many car owners don t know how to use antilock brakes effectively and the manuals that come with their automobiles offer little help. Some of the manuals don t spell out how using antilock brakes is different from using regular brakes. Some manufacturers provide no instructions at all. Traditionally, drivers are trained to brake gently on slippery roads or to pump their brakes to avoid a skid. But it is firm, continuous brake pressure that is required to activate anti locks, which should never be pumped. This is exactly what the antilock feature does for the driver automatically, it pumps the brakes many times a second. With the driver pumping antilock brakes during a skid, braking effectiveness may be reduced to the point of not having brakes at all. Because of misconceptions about the circumstances in which antilock brakes can help, it s useful to review what they can and cannot do. In normal braking, a vehicle slows as its wheels are gradually brought to a stop. Without antilock brakes, hard or emergency braking will cause the wheels to lock before the vehicle comes to a halt. In this case, some or all of the tires skid along the road. How the vehicle skids depends on the coefficient of friction, or drag factor, between the tires and the road surface. The gold rush began on January 24, 1848 when gold was found by James Marshall, a foreman for John Sutter, at Sutter s Mill in Coloma, California (Bancroft 32). Initially the news was kept a secret due to the risk of a massive wave of gold seekers interfering with Sutter s land and agricultural plans. However, by March of 1848, Samuel Brannan s flamboyant confirmation to the rumors created the California gold rush. Hordes of people from around the world traveled to California in search for gold and success. • 28. The Importance Of Social Anxiety I am interested in why so many people suffer from Social Anxiety. It is significant because social anxiety is a huge problem today that is often overlooked. I think that the advancement of technology has had an effect on the way that people act towards each other, as well as the way children are being raised, and the need for people to feel like they fit in, which has allowed for an uprising of social anxiety disorder. The topic of social anxiety interests me because I think it is something that I myself have. It confuses me as to why people care about what other people think about them, myself included. When trying to find a topic to write about, I started to think about the things that are in my everyday life. I thought of many things, like what I like to do on a day to day basis, why I do the things that I do, and why I act the way I act. Thinking about these things it made me think about why I act the way I act and how my decisions make me feel, which then lead me to think about what was behind my feelings. When thinking about it I suddenly realized that social situations made me feel uncomfortable. Social situations made me feel very uncomfortable and also extremely aware of everything that wasn t right about me. Sometimes as human beings we desire to be like everyone else and fit in, people with social anxiety avoid social interactions because of how uncomfortable and self conscious they make them feel. This causes people to have anxiety whenever they are in social situations. That is why avoiding social situations is easier for people who suffer from social anxiety disorder because the chance that they will be humiliated or embarrassed is too high. I could be considered a shy person, I don t like to talk to others, but it s not because I am unable to, it is because I don t want to. However, that is when I realized that it might be Social Anxiety. It wasn t that I couldn t handle social situations, it was that it gave me anxiety to put myself out there in front of everyone to just trample on. They are used as tools to teach children life lessons in such a way that doesn t scare them, but does prepare them for the harsh realities of the world. We have many such examples in our own lives, it seems only natural that the wizarding world would have their own. One interesting thing about wizarding fairy tales is that unlike their muggle counterparts, magic is a good force. While good magic does exist in muggle fairy tales, for instance Cinderella s godmother, more often than not it is portrayed as the evil weapon in the story. The Tale of Three Brothers is a story where Death is a character. He greets three brothers who have used their knowledge in the magical arts to cheat him. Instead of killing them on the spot, he grants them each a gift. The eldest chooses an unbeatable wand, the middle plots to humiliate death further by asking for a stone that can raise the dead, while the youngest asks for a cloak that will shield its wearer from being followed by Death. The three brothers soon part ways and choose their own paths, and ultimately their deaths. The first is murdered after he boasts loudly about being unbeatable, the second kills himself after finding that the stone cannot truly bring anyone back, but the third lives a long and full life and greets death as an old friend (Rowling, 93). • 37. Critical Speech In Perils Of Indifference By Elie Wiesel Romanian born American Jewish writer, professor, political activist, Nobel Laureate, and Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel in his critical speech, Perils of Indifference, maintains the idea that indifference is inhumane. He supports his claim by using his personal experience in the Holocaust. Additionally, it states in paragraph 9 that They were dead and did not know it. emphasizes how indifference has made the Muselmann completely unaware of their fate. Further, it states in paragraph 8 that Indifference can be tempting... troublesome... and can make our lives meaningless. Wiesel s purpose is to warn the people that change is needed in order to encourage the people to make a change in the world for the better so something as tragic and devastating like the Holocaust never happens again. He establishes a critical tone for readers by using stylistic devices and rhetorical devices such as imagery, contemplative questions, and word choice in order to achieve his message that indifference is inhumane. Wiesel s message about the inhumanity of indifference and the importance of resistance is still relevant today. Unfortunately, although Elie Wiesel and much of the world hoped nothing like the Holocaust would ever happen again, there have been other cases of genocide later after the Holocaust. For example, in the year 1991, the The Bosnian War and Srebrenica Genocide took place ( The Bosnian War ). In 1991, Yugoslavia began to break up along ethnic lines, causing a surge of ethnic groups trying to seize the power in government ( The Bosnian War ). Purpose The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice cream formations. Background Information To make ice cream you need milk, half and half, sugar and vanilla. All of these products make ice cream, but they must be cooled down. That is where salt comes in. Just like when salt is spread on roads in cold weather to prevent freezing roads, salt in ice cream allows the freezing point to decrease. Since ice cream isn t just water, salt is needed to make the ice creams temperature below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The salt makes the mixture of ice cream colder than with just ice. By mixing the ice and salt, the freezing point gets lowered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the amount of salt (Tbsp.) increased, so did the height of Ice cream. When two Tbsp. of salt were used, the data resulted in 4.8 cm, 3.1 cm, and 3.4 cm. When the control (6 Tbsp.) were used, the height resulted in 7.5 cm, 8.4 cm, and 5.9 cm. Ten Tbsp. resulted in 5.2 cm, 11.4 cm, and 9.8 cm. As one can see, increasing the amount of salt, showed an increase in the height of Ice cream. Conclusion The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice cream formations. The question the lab asked was What variable needs to be changed to produce greater ice cream height? The hypothesis was If the salt content increases, then the ice cream formation will yield taller formations. The hypothesis was supported. As the salt content went from 2 Tbsp., 6 Tbsp., and 10 Tbsp. The average went up from 3.6 cm per 2 Tbsp. to 7.2 cm per 6 Tbsp. to 8.8 cm per 10 Tbsp. The principle guiding the outcome, was the salt, lowering the freezing point. Works Cited Singularity. Analysis Of Dirtwork In EuripidesThe Bacchae 3218 Dirtwork in Euripides The Bacchae The Bacchae represent the irrational aspects of religion, and this is neither simply reverent or irreverent toward religion. The play, The Bacchae can easily be interpreted as a cautionary tale about the dangers of neglecting worship or as a cautionary tale about the dangers of placing too much trust in human rationality. If the play s main intent was to describe the dangers of neglecting worship or to describe the dangers of relying heavily of human rationality, then Bacchae would not be portrayed negatively. I will argue that these interpretations, while true to some degree, are oversimplifications of the message that Euripides conveys, and that a stronger interpretation is that the play is commentary on the human struggle to harmonize our desire to individuate and our desire to unify. The play describes the conflict between Pentheus need to define boundaries and the Bacchae s desire to eliminate boundaries. Pentheus and the Bacchae show what occurs when one desire overpowers the other. The conflict between Pentheus and the Bacchae is an external representation of the internal conflict between the two needs, that we observe in characters like Pentheus. The Bacchae represent an irrational aspect of religion because they are portrayed as victims of groupthink. The Bacchae do not think for themselves, and reject the idea of thinking for themselves.
