A Physics Special on
Mass Energy Equivalence
Article By: Hugh Corley
History
Born in Germany in 1879, Albert Einstein was theoretical physicist. After graduating high school, he
began working in a Swiss patent office in 1903. 1905 was like any other year in the patent office. That
is, until September 27, when Albert Einstein finished a paper that would revolutionize physics.
Titled Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content? it was the final paper in a series
of four he submitted that year to the German physics journal, Annalen der Physik. The first three
papers explained the photoelectric effect, gave experimental proof of the atoms, and introduced the
theory of special relativity. In the fourth paper however, Einstein explained the idea of mass energy
equivalence, using the now famous equation E=mc2. Although the idea of mass energy equivalence
existed before Einstein, it was never realized and systematically consolidated to a single equation. iii
Explanation
Figure 1: The Rest Mass Energy Equation.ii
This equation states that that the energy of the system (E) is equivalent to the mass of the system (m)
times the speed of light squared. In short, mass and energy are separate quantities that are closely
related. So close, in fact, that they are physically equivalent to each other. An increase in energy yields
a proportional increase in inertial mass. However it is important to note that the matter remains
unchanged. Another

Romeo Juliet ĀĀØ Balcony Scene Character Comparison
Balcony Scene (Act 2, Scene 1) in Romeo and Juliet is almost certainly the most famous scene
throughout the world. The prevalent reason for it being famous is that this scene is the scene where the
two lovers come together, took an oath for their love and plan to marry. This scene foreshadows the
next scene, their marriage, which is tremendously important for the rest of the play. In my opinion,
there is one more reason for ĀgBalcony SceneĀh to be famous. In this scene, Shakespeare reveals the
characteristics of the protagonists, Romeo and Juliet, in their speeches secretly. If we analyze them,
we see that despite their exalted love, Romeo and Juliet are quite opposite characters which seem like
they can never get on well. However from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in contrast to all her reasonable, lucid behaviors her quick and concrete plan for marriage
shows that with the effect of blinding love she can make her decisions without thinking on them. This
doesnĀft seem usual to me for a girl like Juliet who had always played the logical part, ĀgbrainĀh
role in their relationship to decide on marriage to a guy he just met. Again we can refer to ĀgYin
YangĀh. Even though she plays the ĀgYinĀh for most of the time, she has a ĀgYangĀh in her,
which is her quick, unreasonable decision of marriage. At last we can say that they are like a Chinese
ĀgYin YangĀh. Juliet symbolizes the ĀgYinĀh with the rational, reasonable thoughts and with the
ĀgYangĀh part (quick decision for marriage) she has; Romeo symbolizes ĀgYangĀh with the ultra
romantic, extreme, irrational thought he

The Use Of Drug Induced Gingival Overgrowth
3.1 Subtitle: Introduction
Gingival enlargement is the overgrowth of gingiva characterized by an expansion and accumulation of
the connective tissue with occasional presence of increased number of cells.
Drug induced gingival overgrowth is known as an adverse effect with three types of drug:
ļ‚§ Phenytoin, an antiepileptic;
ļ‚§ Cyclosporine A, an immunosuppressant; and
ļ‚§ Calcium channel blockers, such as dihydropyridines (nifedipine), diltiazem, and verapamil, which
are widely prescribed for the treatment of various cardiovascular diseases.
ļ‚— This is characterized by an accumulation of extracellular matrix within the gingival connective
tissue, particularly the collagenous component, with various degrees of chronic inflammatory
inflammation. (Yamasaki, 1987)
ļ‚— It remains unknown why drugs with such different pharmacological actions induce similar gingival
overgrowth.
ļ‚— The genetically determined capacity of the host to deal metabolically with chronically administered
drugs, the responsiveness of gingival tissue to the drugs, and preexisting gingival condition, including
inflammation may, differ among individuals.
ļ‚— Although the pathology of drug induced gingival overgrowth is not definitively known
ļ‚— These disorders seem to be induced through the disruption of the homeostasis of collagen synthesis
and degradation in gingival connective tissues.

Comparing Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet And Baz Luhrmann
There are many different interpretations of William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet that have been
made into productions, but only a few directors are able to interpret his intentions perfectly. Romeo
and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare about two star crossed lovers, Romeo, a Montague
and Juliet, a Capulet. The two families have had a feud for a very long time, therefore Romeo and
Juliet being together would cause them to be punished. Knowing the consequences the two would face
if caught, they still get married and eventually die for each other. There are many similarities and
differences between two productions of Romeo and Juliet, one by Franco Zeffirelli and one by Baz
Luhrmann, but the way the intentions of Shakespeare are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the play, Shakespeare s intentions are for the readers to see the love Juliet has for Romeo. He
displays this when Juliet is speaking to Romeo from her balcony, she says to him that And the place
death, considering who thou art, if any of my kinsmen find thee here. (2.2.64 65). This shows that
Juliet does not want Romeo to die because she is very fond of him and warn Romeo that he can get
killed if he is found here, but Romeo does not care. Zeffirelli s production best portrays Shakespeare s
intentions because in the movie Juliet worries Romeo will get caught, which will result in him being
executed. She warns him, but Romeo does not seem to care and continues talking to her. In Luhrmann
s production, Romeo and Juliet both worry they will get caught. The Capulets have security cameras
installed near the pool and that is where the scene takes place. Therefore, they both worry about
getting caught by the security guard, which will result in punishment for them both. In conclusion,
Zeffirelli s production of Romeo and Juliet best interprets Shakespeare s intentions for Juliet s concern

Netflix Inc Case Study
Introduction: Netflix, Inc., is an entertainment industry that provides millions of customers with a
streaming service to television shows and movies. Netflix was founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings and
Marc Randolph in Los Gatos, California (Hosch). In the late 1990 s, Netflix started to offer an online
subscription service through the Internet, which changed the way we viewed movies and shows. In the
mid 2000 s, Netflix mailed DVDs to their subscribers, and once the customer was done watching they
would mail it back to Netflix. However, it was not until 2007, that Netflix began streaming options
through the Internet. By 2012, Netflix was expanding their brand beyond the United States (Hosch).
Netflix is an innovated the way people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Netflix has battled off these companies by keeping their costs low, always having a new variety of
shows and movies to watch and still making a large profit for themselves. The IT/IS system is helped
by this because they are always updating, adding, and removing content from their website, as well as
improving the layout and making it more user friendly with their recommended tabs and the ability to
show the consumer what they might want to watch based off of what they are currently watching or
what they have watched in the past. Threat of Substitute Products and Services The threat of substitute
products and services causes a company s goods and services to be threatened by other company s
similar goods and services. For example, Netflix s threats of substitutes are social media and cable
television. Social media is a similar product to Netflix, but causes Netflix to lose business, because
customers are being entertained by Instagram, and Snapchat, rather than watching Netflix. Netflix s
information system collects data based on customers activeness on Netflix s application. The
inactivity of customers causes Netflix to lose money and subscribers. Netflix will improve against the
threat of social media by making Netflix more interactive, such as, adding messaging to suggest shows
to your friend. In addition, cable television impacts Netflix s business. For instance, sports fans, and
HBO subscribers cannot get live games and Game of Thrones on Netflix,

Teaching By Discussion Analysis
Teaching by Discussion As a Sunday school teacher at my previous church for four years, it was
important to give individuals a chance to give their input to the Scriptures as we studied them.
However, we are never too old to learn something new. After reading the article, Teaching by
Discussion, by Kenneth O. Gangel Ph.D., I realized some areas I fell short with my students in
discussing questions. Getting students involved in discussion at times was like pulling teeth, no one
opens their mouths and I found myself doing all of the talking (discussing). With all honesty, there are
other Sunday school teachers who fall in this same question and answer category, which I have
experienced. Nonetheless, this article expressed our purpose as teachers is to get the students involved
in classroom discussions by asking the right questions. Discussion is not conducted for the sake of
therapy but rather for the sake of pinpointing answers to questions for solutions. Ordinarily, teacher
and students are engaged in a cooperative effort to seek for truth, knowing in advance that truth also
its application to life can be found in God s Word. Furthermore, I can relate to this article ... Show

Latin American Cultures Midterm
Section 1 Question 1 Throughout the pre Columbus era in Latin America, The Mayas, Aztecs, and
Incas built unique civilizations, each with its own distinctive achievements, creating distinctive
cultures to unite their individual societies. The Mayas, Aztecs, and Incas not only shared many
similarities in the ways they built their civilizations, but also had differing characteristics that made
each people its own. Civilization in the Americas originated as early as 7000 B.C. as a result of a land
bridge between Asia and the Americas, formed when the Bering Strait connecting current day Russia
with Alaska united the two continents during the Ice Age. The humans who crossed the land bridge,
mostly hunter gatherers, eventually developed advanced civilizations throughout North and South
America. By around 900 B.C., the Olmec civilization one of the first advanced civilizations in the
Americas populated parts of Mexico and Central America, where they developed advancements such
as building the first pyramids. About 200 years later, descendants of the Olmecs emerged the Maya,
Zapotec, Totonac, and TeotihuacƔn civilizations. Over time, the Mayas, Aztecs, and Incas emerged as
subsequent descendants of the first humans who populated the Americas. The Mayan civilization
emerged as early as 2000 B.C. in Mesoamerica, Southern Mexico extending throughout

Characterism And Criticism In John Updike s A + P
Every character in works of literature is subjected to criticism and critique by its readers. In the short
story, A+P , the protagonist, Sammy has been subjected to criticism for his actions of quitting his job,
a reaction of seeing young ladies be disrespected in his workplace for wearing bathing suits. Many
readers depict Sammy as immature and ignorant for quitting his job. However, the author, John
Updike contradicts this assumption, portraying Sammy as a nineteen year old, who demonstrates
strong morals, ambition, defiance, and a promising future, characterizing him not as an insolent teen
but a developing young man. Sammy displays his maturity through his strong morals by refusing to
work in a profession where customers are degraded. Sammy, a cashier at A+P, is like a ... Show more

Sammy contains morals, yearnings for success, and defiance at only nineteen. Sammy achieves these
standards that many individuals can not attain at nineteen, demonstrating his bright potential as an
employee and a person. After Sammy resigns from his cashier job he steps out into the A+P parking
lot. He remarks, The door heaves itself open, and outside the sunshine is skating around the asphalt
(Updike). The sunshine and good weather when Sammy exits A+P is symbolic of his bright future,
one filled with potential and success. His potential, which is granted to him by his previous actions,
indicates that Sammy is capable of anything. Sammy was the only person who spoke in defense of the
young girls who were ridiculed by Lengel, showing his kindness and compassion, which are
admirable qualities of any employee. If Sammy did not have the courage to quit his job, he would
spend the rest of his life as a cashier, catering to others needs rather than his own. This proves that
standing up for one s beliefs will prompt

The Book of Jonah Essay
It is thought that Jonah, the fifth of the Minor Prophets, lived during the reign of Jeroboam II, when
the kingdom was divided. (Lockyer, 198) Although the Book of Jonah is quite short, just two and one
half pages, it is not short on themes. Because there are so many themes it is hard to classify or to
determine its primary message. (Anchor 936 and New Interpreter s 490) These themes range from
running away, praying, second chances, anger, and God s compassion and mercy, to name a few. The
following will provide a brief explanation of each theme, previously mention, as it relates to the Book
of Jonah.
The first theme, running away and its consequences can be found in Chapter 1:1 2:1. Jonah is called
by God to go to Nineveh and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Verse 5 states that each sailor cried to his god, which tells the reader that the sailors were pagans;
therefore, the later interpretation is more likely. (New Interpreter s 496) The sailors cast lots to see
whose fault it is for this situation. Using chance to find the perpetrator insinuates that it took divine
intervention to single out Jonah. (New Interpreter s 498) The sailors ask Jonah who he was and where
did he come from and Jonah s answer was I am a Hebrew. He also stated I worship the Lord, the God
of heaven who made the sea and the dry land. The sailors believe that Jonah has brought the storm to
them and asks What have you done? and What shall we do with you? (New American 1011) Feeling
the weight of his guilt of running away from God, Jonah tells the sailors to throw him overboard. They
comply unwillingly. Now the Lord still had a mission for Jonah and so he sent a large fish to swallow
him up, which is where he stayed for three days and three nights. Certainly, the safest and simplest
thing Jonah could have done would have been to go to Nineveh and preach against the city; therefore,
running away is never a better answer.
The second theme, prayer, occupies the majority of Chapter 2, specifically verses 3 10, the Psalm of
Thanksgiving . This is thought to have been a later addition to the story, due to the fact that Jonah had
not been saved yet. (Anchor 939) However,

An Integrative Typology Of Personality Assessment For...
When it comes to selecting an employee for a job position, personality comes into play on account of
the fact that it can affect behavior in the workplace. Whether positive or negative effects, it is
important for the possibility of aggressive behavior to be considered as to avoid hiring persons who
prove to be dishonorable toward the business through their negative actions. After reading An
Integrative Typology of Personality Assessment for Aggression: Implications for Predicting
Counterproductive Workplace Behavior, the authors heavily emphasize two cognitions: explicit and
implicit. Their main concentration for this particular study involves aggression and how to properly
test it using self report as well as a type of integrative typology. The implicit cognition is not
accessible to consciousness and therefore measurable only by indirect means, suggesting that testing
for aggressiveness requires an indirect measurement... integrated with a self report (page 723). The
study sets out to prove the validity of these methods as a useful tool for businesses to determine the
capabilities, whether positive or negative, of their potential or current employees.
To help better understand the types of decisions being made in terms of aggression, the authors
categorize employees into three sections: manifest aggressives, prosocials, latent aggressives, and
overcompensating prosocials (page 724). Both latent aggressives and prosocials believe themselves to
not be aggressive, but

William Blake The Lamb Meaning
William Blake s The Lamb is a part of the Songs of Innocence (1789) and was later accompanied by a
larger work, the Songs of Experience (1794). Blake expressed what he believed, and he wanted to
prove his true understanding of Christianity. His audience for his poem understood Christianity and
were familiar with the Bible. The poem establishes the theme of the vulnerability of innocence and a
vision of the speaker. The child s view is limited on account of unawareness of the total reality of
human knowledge. The voice of the poem is formed from a speaker that seems to be an innocent child,
communicating with a lamb who is unable to answer or respond to the child. The rhyme scheme is
similar to that of Dr. Seuss, it is like a nursery rhyme, and also a riddle. This is one of William s
simpler poems, but with a closer analysis it reveals hidden symbols, meaning, tones, and wordplay.
William Blake writes The Songs of Innocence, so this poem is obviously going to relate to some kind
of innocence. It is revealed in the second stanza when the speaker addresses the lamb as if it knows
who made it, and who gave it all of its features. However, the lamb or child does not answer, but of
course it would not answer. This then causes the speaker to answer his own questions. Which proves
that the lamb is too innocent to answer for itself. Dost thou know who made thee? /Little Lamb I ll tell
thee (10 11). This displays the wordplay in the poem because the reader asks questions and then

Pollution In Water Pollution
Pollution is a major problem in water systems all around the world and in our creek. In our area,
eutrophication and acid rain are the two main pollution problems in our area. Eutrophication can be
caused by sewage treatment plants, home sewage systems, and farm fertilizer runoff. Acid rain can be
caused by the burning of fossil fuel. Eutrophication causes plants to die and when the plants die, the
bacteria from the dead plants use up the oxygen from the water, which causes the fish to die.

My hypothesis is if the creek has higher levels of phosphates and nitrates, and lower level of dissolved
oxygen, then the creek will be polluted. The levels of nitrates and phosphates should be near 0 ppm
for the creek to not be considered polluted. The dissolved oxygen levels should be higher if the creek
is healthy. Dissolved oxygen is essentially the amount of oxygen in the water. For the acid rain test,
we put a solution on different rocks to see if the acid dissolved the rocks. The nitrate and phosphate
test involved getting a specific amount of creek water, putting different solutions in the water, and
matching the solutions with other vials to determine the state of the water.Photo Credits to Alex

Practice Of The Wild Analysis
The Practice of the Wild encourages us to find the wild within ourselves, society, as well as nature
around us. Snyder prompts us with the question of what it means to truly return to the wild. The words
wild and nature although similar have different meanings yet tend to be used interchangeably by our
society. According to Snyder respecting nature is a fundamental part of Buddhist tradition; a way of
life he has chosen to follow. Nature to him is defined as all living things and the environment
surrounding them but, he does refer to nature as outdoors as well. The wild is formal and free as
compared to our modern civilizations, Snyder states that it may be easier to state what the wild is not
rather than to define it. As a society, we have chosen to become civilized instead of living as we were
intended to, at one with the world around us. Humans are wild, we have a fight or flight reaction,

Land and Soil Degradation Assessment
Chapter 3 3.1 Introduction Land and soil degradation assessments have recently become more
fashionable responding to environmental concerns particularly in industrial countries, following the
lead in developing countries that have claimed significant effects of land degradation on their
agricultural production and food security. The underlying causes of degradation have been very often
the basic socio economic structure and institutional structures of developing economies. Among them
are land shortage, inappropriate land tenure arrangements, poverty, and population growth. However,
the diverse factors that contribute to the problem make it necessary that a comprehensive approach is
taken by the authorities responsible for policy in different areas such as food security, forests, soil
conservation, and water resources. 3.2 National contexts, South Africa South Africa is located, as one
might expect, on the southern tip of Africa. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the west, the Indian

Modern American History Research Paper
History is alive
The subject of history is described as many things among high schoolers. A boring subject about
people long since dead, a class with WAY too much homework or with a professor who enjoys giving
droning lectures. Therefore, most students look at history classes as just another set of credits to get
out of the way for graduation. However, in my case, it is viewed a bit differently. I believe history is a

It is the backbone of all other subjects, such as English, science, math, government, even world
languages. Historical knowledge provides the groundwork for all literature, it is vital in order to
understand references and allusions, as well as to grasp the point of view an author is writing from. In
essence, you can read a novel a hundred times, but you will never be able to fully appreciate it if you
have no connection to the deeply rooted historical background of the plot. Then there are scientific
discoveries. Who made them? Where did those scientists come from? What culture led to the
discoveries? What war brought about the creating of nuclear bombs? What were the thought processes
of the scientific geniuses? All these questions have answers that can be found through the study of
history. Next, is the application for math, the Pythagorean theorem, the geometric knowledge gained
from Euclid, the Greeks and Romans and how their past brought them to be mathematicians. These
people and their mathematical work are part of history. Even the development of different forms of

Ā”Ā§Economic Theory Suggests that Markets are Efficient and Security Prices are Determined on the
Basis of Fundamental ValueĀ”ĀØ
Market efficiency requires that security prices react immediately in an unbiased way to the receipt of
new information (Robert Shiller S1998). In other words, an efficient capital market is one in which
stock prices fully reflect available information. In addition, there are three conditions for market
efficiency; information flows freely, market is composed of rational investors where all competing
against each other with the objective of maximizing wealth and there is no market imperfections. In
efficient market, investors actively compete in the market based upon perceived mispricing derived
from an analysis of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Best example recently would be the internet stocks from 1996 through 2002 where the price of the
internet stock roses over its fair value until the market forces the price back to its original level
(Russell J. Fuller 1995).
The above argument can fall into the theory of representativeness and conservatism. The principle of
representativeness implies overweighting the results of small sample. Financial economists have
argued that representativeness leads to overreaction in stock returns (Eugene Fama F1998). In the case
of internet companies, great revenue growth for a short time in the late 1990s, causing many to believe
that this growth would continue indefinitely. Stock prices rose (too much) at this point. When, at last,
investors realized that this growth could not be sustained, prices plummeted. On the other hand, the
theory of conservatism states that individuals adjust their beliefs too slowly to new information. A
market composed of this type of investor would likely lead to stock prices that under react in the
presence of new information. This is shown in the example of earning surprises .
It could be said that both representativeness and conservatism have opposite implications for stock
prices. Fama reviewed the academic studies on anomalies, finding that about half of them show
overreaction and about half show under reaction. He concludes that this evidence is consistent with
the market

conditioned to do what they are supposed to do. In an attempt to get the people to believe and rebel
against the civilized world, John throws the soma out the window. Soma is a pill that is given to the
workers to take them to a soma holiday, a place where one is always happy and can not be bothered by
the outside world. After throwing the soma out the window, John and Bernard are taken to Mustapha
Mond s office, a controller of London. John and the Mustapha Mond get into a discussion about what
makes London so great. On page 263 Mustapha Mond says, [the people are] ignorant of passion and
old age. He is wondering what more anyone could one want besides never getting old or fat and never
having to worry about all the heartaches of passion. The final way the characters show dystopia is
through their speech. Mustapha Mond says, [the people are] plagued with no mothers or fathers . . . or
lovers . . . they re so conditioned that they practically can not help behaving as they ought to behave

Gender Roles In The Handmaid s Tale
The Handmaid s Tale is a dystopian novel about a totalitarian society named Gilead, where society
functions much like a caste system. The feminist lens is the most useful to the audience in
understanding the themes and motifs in the Handmaid s tale because it reflects on how women interact
within a population, the effect of language that is used to address women, and how the theory of
oppression of women is deeply rooted in society. The Handmaid s Tale not only discusses feminism
and how oppression of women occurs, but also how we as different societal groups come to ostracize
one another. Atwood brings the discussion of feminism up in many different examples throughout the
book including discussing gender roles, how women s experiences differ ... Show more content on

However, the theft of the women s real names is the most devastating to characters like Offred
because it strips her from her unique identity. Names carry an infinite amount of information that
Atwood wants the audience to realize is often overlooked; factors such as the individual s origin,
information about their family, gender, and potentially their culture, commonly serve as the precursor
for humans to predict how their interactions with one another will go. The language that Gilead uses
to categorize and identify people within its society breaks unity among members, and completely
changes the meaning and value of the word feminine . Addressing the females that are no longer able
to reproduce as unwomen gives Gilead the power to take the only thing that remains to bond them.
While it is not uncommon for different cultures to have varying views about how women interact
within their civilizations, the officials of Gilead almost completely remove women as members of
society. Atwood wisely uses names as a tool to connect with the audience because the use of names is
a fundamental element of society that occurs routinely and at a high frequency. More importantly,
Atwood uses her opinions about the value of a name, to serve as a lesson to readers; she insinuates
that her audience should increase their awareness of the effects and potential

The Pros And Cons Of Configuration Management Database
Due to a growing interest in adopting best practices across IT departments, particularly according to
standards such as ITIL, many organizations are now deciding to implement a configuration
management database (CMDB). IT departments face numerous challenges in providing dependable
services that support a company s goals. Solving most of them requires a good configuration
management strategy: without knowing what s in your environment, you cannot hope to control it,
maintain it, or improve it. Configuration Management Database Itil history/overview Initially,
Configuration Management Database (CMDB) term derives from ITIL IT Infrastructure Library,

If Configuration Management is applied to information systems, and not just to information
technologies, the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) can store and manage detailed
information about users, IT organization personnel and business structures. These Configuration Items
are also subject to the Change Management process, for example, when hiring and firing employees.
All Configuration Items should be included in the CMDB, which tracks all IT components and the
relationships between them. In the most primitive form, the Configuration Management Database is a
set of paper forms or spreadsheets. The purpose of the Configuration Management process is to assist
with managing the economic value of the IT services by supporting a logical model of IT
infrastructure and IT services and providing information about them to other business processes. This
is achieved through the monitoring, identification, control and provision of information on the
Configuration Units and their versions. The tasks of this process contain accurate registration of
detailed information about IT components and services provided by the organization, as well as
providing accurate information and documentation to support other Service Management processes

The Impact Nationalism in Italy and the Austrian Empire
Nationalism holds that where a nation exists, it should govern itself. The forces of nationalism
influenced central Europe from Italy to the land of the Austrian Habsburgs. After 1815, the region
knew the positive effects of a different style of governing and was divided into a much more rational
set of political units. There was an effort by both states to unite its segmented lands, so that they could
have a more international standpoint. By 1870, both Italy and the Austrian Empire had been re
established. Italy had become unified into a central power, whereas Austria Hungary had established a
dual monarchy.

Kudler Fine Foods Hris Analysis
Abstract Kudler Fine Foods is a specialty food store consisting of a workforce of approximately 17
employees at their administration office, 31 employees at their La Jolla store, 38 employees at their
Del Mar store and 38 employees at their Encinitas store, totaling 124 employees (Kudler Fine Foods
Intranet). Each location manages their own employees information on their own database. This proves
to be a problem since all Human Resources and employee information should be managed at the
administrative office on one central Human Resources Information System (HRIS). Another drawback
to the current Kudler Fine Foods system is that the timekeeper and attendance records are done
manually which is not only time consuming, but causes errors ... Show more content on

Payroll Sage Abra HRMS automates payroll processing and would help to keep Kudler Fine Foods in
compliance with the latest government regulations for withholding, filing, and depositing taxes. With
payroll and HR data stored in the same database, unnecessary paperwork is greatly reduced. Changes
made to the HRMS database reflect in both payroll and HR systems. This eliminates errors and the
need for duplicate entry of employee, pay rate, benefits, and deduction information. Employee Self
Service Providing Kudler Fine Food employees with access to their own benefits, personnel, and
paycheck information is a good way to reduce routine administration. Employee Self Service (ESS)
solutions allow employees and their managers to view, create, and maintain their information using a
web browser. Self service lets employees find answers to questions about paychecks and benefits, as
well as update information such as contact information or dependents. ESS reduces the burden of
paperwork, while retaining HR s ability to control and approve processes. Kudler Fine Foods would
be able to use ESS technology to create a communications portal that distributes information about
company policies and benefits to the entire workforce. Benefits Enrollment Automation An HRMS

Essay about Sleeping Disorders
Sleeping Disorders
I am going to start by telling you what a sleeping disorder is. A sleeping disorder is a problem that
affects something to do with sleep. Not all sleeping disorders have symptoms that are obvious to a
person or their family and friends, here are some common sleep disorders.
Insomnia Sleep Apnea Narcolepsy Restless Leg Syndrome Parasomnia
Bruxism Jet Lag Shiftwork

To keep episodes of insomnia at a minimum, sleep specialists recumbent practicing good sleep
hygiene.
There is another sleeping disorder called Sleep Apnea. Sleep Apnea is not really problems with going
to sleep, it is more dealing with problems while you are sleeping. Some of the symptoms of sleep
apnea include
loud or irregular snoring excessive daytime sleepiness repeated nightly arousals non refreshing sleep
morning headache nightly periodic absent breathing Loud snoring at night can be more than just a
nuisance. It can actually signal to you that something could be wrong with breathing during sleep. In
most cases, there are no serious medical consequences associated with snoring.
But for about 20 million Americans, this loud, habitual snoring can indicate a life threatening disorder
know as sleep apnea. An apnea is actually a lack of breath. For most people during sleep, it is normal
for the breathing muscles to relax. The problem is, for some people, excessive muscle relaxation
occurs which disrupts breathing. Disordered breathing during sleep also can occur if the brain stops
sending the needed messages to the breathing muscles. In either case, the presence of apnea should be
taken seriously.
Sleep apnea is more common in middle aged men and overweight people.
People with sleep apnea often

Microsoft s Xbox Gaming System
Microsoft first released its Xbox gaming system in 2001, and developed new versions of the Xbox in
2005 with the Xbox 360, and in 2013 with the Xbox One.
Microsoft is one of three companies that currently dominate the console hardware market. These three
companies are Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. The Microsoft Xbox One controls about 29% of the
market share, while Sony PlayStation 4 controls 51%, and Nintendo Wii 20% (Duran 2015). With
technology changing everyday, increased competition, and similarity in hardware products, there is a
high level of urgency for Microsoft to come up with an innovation strategy that will enable the
company to surpass its competitors. For the video game industry many threats exist including no
strong regulations against piracy by illegal manufacturers, high costs of improving technology, the
stiff competition within the industry, and the rise in popularity of substitute products. Amidst the
threats, there are certainly beneficial opportunities for Microsoft to approach going forward. These
opportunities would include online markets, expanding internationally, as well as new technology
possibly in the form of virtual reality video games. Going forward Microsoft should invest its scarce
resources and time through creating new technology, as best as possible. Microsoft can do this by
creating virtual reality as part of their games, and in doing so differentiate from its competitors. In
terms of marketing, loyal gamers are what ultimately make

The Causes And Impacts Of The World Trade Center
The original World Trade Center, constructed between 1975 and 1985, was a complex of seven
buildings occupying a 16 block area in Lower Manhattan. At the heart of the World Trade Center
(WTC) stood 1 WTC and 2 WTC, also known as the Twin Towers. These towers occupied nearly an
acre each and stood 110 stories high. When completed, 1 WTC was the tallest building in the world.
The Twin Towers stood as a symbol of America s power in the global economy. Because of this, the
World Trade Center was a massive target for terrorism. On February 26th, 1993, a small moving truck
was filled with 1500 pounds of explosives and detonated in the underground parking garage of the
North Tower. This attack killed 6 people, injured over a thousand and lead to structural damage in the
subsurface structure of the tower. Unfortunately, this was just a warning of what was yet to come. On
September 11th, 2001, two commercial airliners were hijacked by terrorists and flown into the North
and South Towers (1 WTC and 2 WTC). The impact from these crashes and the heat caused by the
burning of excess jet fuel after the impact caused the buildings to collapse killing over 2600 people.
Debris from the collapse damaged the remainder of the seven buildings eventually leading to them
being demolished. To recover from the physical and emotional loss in Lower Manhattan, a new World
Trade Center has been planned. The site is now home to the new 1 WTC (The Freedom Tower), 2
WTC, 3 WTC, 4 WTC, 7 WTC, National September 11 Memorial and Museum, and the World Trade
Center Transportation Hub.
The focal point of the new World Trade Center is the new 1 WTC. Also known as the Freedom Tower,
the new 1 WTC is owned by the Port Authority of New York New Jersey. The tower s 3,100,000
square feet of floor space is managed operated and leased by the Durst Organization. Skidmore,
Owings Merrill was faced with the challenge of not only designing a building, but designing an icon
representing perseverance, innovation, and urban modernism (Lewis Holt). The building is designed
using a highly redundant steel moment frame and core to enhance rigidity while leaving the floor
space free of columns. Not only is the new 1 WTC one of the most safe structures in the

Fitness is determined by the ability of an organism to survive, grow, and reproduce in a particular
habitat. You have probably heard the term survival of the ļ¬ttest, but if an organism is not able to also
grow and reproduce, it will not be able to pass any of its alleles (genetic information) on to its
oļ¬€spring. An organism that has high ļ¬tness does well in its habitat and passes those favorable alleles
onto its oļ¬€spring when it reproduces.
Go back and review the habitats you described in Exercise ļ™„ and think about the factors that would be
important for plant ļ¬tness. Then list the ecological diļ¬€erences between North Carolina and Minnesota

Elements Of Realism In Red Kayik
Drowning in a river, going to jail, and hurting your friends, this is the hard reality that Brady, a main
character in Red Kayak, just happens to be going through. Brady has to deal with Ben, a young child
of the DiAngelos, a family who just moved in. Brady was Ben s babysitter and he had dealt with him
in a traumatic situation, his death caused by drowning (which Brady s friends took part in.) This
contributes to the fact that this novel, Red Kayak, is realistic fiction. Realistic fiction is a story that
may happen in reality and the five elements are credible events, authentic characters, real settings, true
to life themes, and believable dialogue. Red Kayak is an excellent example of realistic fiction because
it includes three elements like real setting, authentic characters, and true to life themes. First, Red
Kayak, is an excellent example of realistic fiction because it has real settings. The setting that takes
place in the novel is on the Corsica river as well as the Chesapeake Bay. For example, on pg. 5 it
states, ItĀ“s a pretty river the Corsica. It also states on the back summary of the book, Brady loves his
life on the Chesapeake Bay. In conclusion, Red Kayak, is an example of realistic fiction since it is
dealing with one of the elements, real setting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The characters that are involved in the book are Digger, Brady, and J.T, but keep in mind there are of
course more characters. For example on pg.106 it states, Digger was in his front yard and, shooting
baskets with his little brother, Hank, when I skidded to a holt on my bike. This evidence supports the
topic because it shows the characters actions in their environment which are most similar to ours. In
summary, Red Kayak has elements of realistic fiction including authentic

Cane Toads
Are They All From Down Under? When you think of animals in Australia, you think of koala bears
and kangaroos, but you do not think about the species that have migrated there. Most animals in
Australia are originally from there and do not live anywhere else in the world. Wombats, can toads,
and kangaroos are three great examples, native or not, of how these fascinating animals who live
down under survive. Wombats are native animals of Australia and over the years they have had to
adapt in many ways to survive in their environment. According to Source 1, wombats have four
powerful legs that they use for digging . Wombats are burrowing, nocturnal creatures, their powerful
legs allow them to burrow in the ground all day and come out at night. ... Show more content on

Source 2 discusses, these toads were brought to Australia from Hawaii to try and lower the cane beetle
population. However, these toads had no effect on these creatures, but they do have some physical
attributes which are deadly to other native creatures of Australia. These toads are toxic, predators who
are native to Australia do not have any immunization to this poison (Source 2). The cane toads
poisonous abilities allow it to protect itself from predators it may have in Australia. These abilities
also allow the toads to capture their prey with more ease because their prey are not immune to their
poison. Source 2 states, cane toads kill native predators such as the quoll, a cat like marsupial . These
toads feed on native animals of Australia, whether they are eating the right animals is another debate.
Since these animals feed on native predators of Australia, there is not a shortage of them in their
habitat. The cane toad can easily find food in Australia, therefore they can easily stay healthy and
survive in Australia. Therefore, their reproduction rate is very high. According to Source 2, the cane
toad population has reached beyond two hundred million. Their high reproduction rate shows the cane
toads have not struggled to mate whilst living in the conditions of Australia. Therefore, since cane
toads have easily been able to adapt to life in Australia, they have been able to continuously
reproduce, generation after generation. Even though cane toads are not native to Australia, they have
not struggled to adapt to life

  • 2. A Physics Special On Mass Energy Equivalence The Great Lakes Tribune A Physics Special on Mass Energy Equivalence Article By: Hugh Corley History Born in Germany in 1879, Albert Einstein was theoretical physicist. After graduating high school, he began working in a Swiss patent office in 1903. 1905 was like any other year in the patent office. That is, until September 27, when Albert Einstein finished a paper that would revolutionize physics. Titled Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content? it was the final paper in a series of four he submitted that year to the German physics journal, Annalen der Physik. The first three papers explained the photoelectric effect, gave experimental proof of the atoms, and introduced the theory of special relativity. In the fourth paper however, Einstein explained the idea of mass energy equivalence, using the now famous equation E=mc2. Although the idea of mass energy equivalence existed before Einstein, it was never realized and systematically consolidated to a single equation. iii Explanation Figure 1: The Rest Mass Energy Equation.ii This equation states that that the energy of the system (E) is equivalent to the mass of the system (m) times the speed of light squared. In short, mass and energy are separate quantities that are closely related. So close, in fact, that they are physically equivalent to each other. An increase in energy yields a proportional increase in inertial mass. However it is important to note that the matter remains unchanged. Another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Romeo Juliet ĀĀØ Balcony Scene Character Comparison Balcony Scene (Act 2, Scene 1) in Romeo and Juliet is almost certainly the most famous scene throughout the world. The prevalent reason for it being famous is that this scene is the scene where the two lovers come together, took an oath for their love and plan to marry. This scene foreshadows the next scene, their marriage, which is tremendously important for the rest of the play. In my opinion, there is one more reason for ĀgBalcony SceneĀh to be famous. In this scene, Shakespeare reveals the characteristics of the protagonists, Romeo and Juliet, in their speeches secretly. If we analyze them, we see that despite their exalted love, Romeo and Juliet are quite opposite characters which seem like they can never get on well. However from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in contrast to all her reasonable, lucid behaviors her quick and concrete plan for marriage shows that with the effect of blinding love she can make her decisions without thinking on them. This doesnĀft seem usual to me for a girl like Juliet who had always played the logical part, ĀgbrainĀh role in their relationship to decide on marriage to a guy he just met. Again we can refer to ĀgYin YangĀh. Even though she plays the ĀgYinĀh for most of the time, she has a ĀgYangĀh in her, which is her quick, unreasonable decision of marriage. At last we can say that they are like a Chinese ĀgYin YangĀh. Juliet symbolizes the ĀgYinĀh with the rational, reasonable thoughts and with the ĀgYangĀh part (quick decision for marriage) she has; Romeo symbolizes ĀgYangĀh with the ultra romantic, extreme, irrational thought he ... • 4. The Use Of Drug Induced Gingival Overgrowth 3.1 Subtitle: Introduction Gingival enlargement is the overgrowth of gingiva characterized by an expansion and accumulation of the connective tissue with occasional presence of increased number of cells. Drug induced gingival overgrowth is known as an adverse effect with three types of drug: ļ‚§ Phenytoin, an antiepileptic; ļ‚§ Cyclosporine A, an immunosuppressant; and ļ‚§ Calcium channel blockers, such as dihydropyridines (nifedipine), diltiazem, and verapamil, which are widely prescribed for the treatment of various cardiovascular diseases. ļ‚— This is characterized by an accumulation of extracellular matrix within the gingival connective tissue, particularly the collagenous component, with various degrees of chronic inflammatory inflammation. (Yamasaki, 1987) ļ‚— It remains unknown why drugs with such different pharmacological actions induce similar gingival overgrowth. ļ‚— The genetically determined capacity of the host to deal metabolically with chronically administered drugs, the responsiveness of gingival tissue to the drugs, and preexisting gingival condition, including inflammation may, differ among individuals. ļ‚— Although the pathology of drug induced gingival overgrowth is not definitively known ļ‚— These disorders seem to be induced through the disruption of the homeostasis of collagen synthesis and degradation in gingival connective tissues. ... • 5. Comparing Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet And Baz Luhrmann There are many different interpretations of William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet that have been made into productions, but only a few directors are able to interpret his intentions perfectly. Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare about two star crossed lovers, Romeo, a Montague and Juliet, a Capulet. The two families have had a feud for a very long time, therefore Romeo and Juliet being together would cause them to be punished. Knowing the consequences the two would face if caught, they still get married and eventually die for each other. There are many similarities and differences between two productions of Romeo and Juliet, one by Franco Zeffirelli and one by Baz Luhrmann, but the way the intentions of Shakespeare are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the play, Shakespeare s intentions are for the readers to see the love Juliet has for Romeo. He displays this when Juliet is speaking to Romeo from her balcony, she says to him that And the place death, considering who thou art, if any of my kinsmen find thee here. (2.2.64 65). This shows that Juliet does not want Romeo to die because she is very fond of him and warn Romeo that he can get killed if he is found here, but Romeo does not care. Zeffirelli s production best portrays Shakespeare s intentions because in the movie Juliet worries Romeo will get caught, which will result in him being executed. She warns him, but Romeo does not seem to care and continues talking to her. In Luhrmann s production, Romeo and Juliet both worry they will get caught. The Capulets have security cameras installed near the pool and that is where the scene takes place. Therefore, they both worry about getting caught by the security guard, which will result in punishment for them both. In conclusion, Zeffirelli s production of Romeo and Juliet best interprets Shakespeare s intentions for Juliet s concern for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Netflix Inc Case Study Introduction: Netflix, Inc., is an entertainment industry that provides millions of customers with a streaming service to television shows and movies. Netflix was founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in Los Gatos, California (Hosch). In the late 1990 s, Netflix started to offer an online subscription service through the Internet, which changed the way we viewed movies and shows. In the mid 2000 s, Netflix mailed DVDs to their subscribers, and once the customer was done watching they would mail it back to Netflix. However, it was not until 2007, that Netflix began streaming options through the Internet. By 2012, Netflix was expanding their brand beyond the United States (Hosch). Netflix is an innovated the way people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Netflix has battled off these companies by keeping their costs low, always having a new variety of shows and movies to watch and still making a large profit for themselves. The IT/IS system is helped by this because they are always updating, adding, and removing content from their website, as well as improving the layout and making it more user friendly with their recommended tabs and the ability to show the consumer what they might want to watch based off of what they are currently watching or what they have watched in the past. Threat of Substitute Products and Services The threat of substitute products and services causes a company s goods and services to be threatened by other company s similar goods and services. For example, Netflix s threats of substitutes are social media and cable television. Social media is a similar product to Netflix, but causes Netflix to lose business, because customers are being entertained by Instagram, and Snapchat, rather than watching Netflix. Netflix s information system collects data based on customers activeness on Netflix s application. The inactivity of customers causes Netflix to lose money and subscribers. Netflix will improve against the threat of social media by making Netflix more interactive, such as, adding messaging to suggest shows to your friend. In addition, cable television impacts Netflix s business. For instance, sports fans, and HBO subscribers cannot get live games and Game of Thrones on Netflix, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Teaching By Discussion Analysis Teaching by Discussion As a Sunday school teacher at my previous church for four years, it was important to give individuals a chance to give their input to the Scriptures as we studied them. However, we are never too old to learn something new. After reading the article, Teaching by Discussion, by Kenneth O. Gangel Ph.D., I realized some areas I fell short with my students in discussing questions. Getting students involved in discussion at times was like pulling teeth, no one opens their mouths and I found myself doing all of the talking (discussing). With all honesty, there are other Sunday school teachers who fall in this same question and answer category, which I have experienced. Nonetheless, this article expressed our purpose as teachers is to get the students involved in classroom discussions by asking the right questions. Discussion is not conducted for the sake of therapy but rather for the sake of pinpointing answers to questions for solutions. Ordinarily, teacher and students are engaged in a cooperative effort to seek for truth, knowing in advance that truth also its application to life can be found in God s Word. Latin Americ Latin American Cultures Jonathan Timothy Su Professor Patricio Navia Latin American Cultures, Sect. 001 20 October 2014 Latin American Cultures Midterm Section 1 Question 1 Throughout the pre Columbus era in Latin America, The Mayas, Aztecs, and Incas built unique civilizations, each with its own distinctive achievements, creating distinctive cultures to unite their individual societies. The Mayas, Aztecs, and Incas not only shared many similarities in the ways they built their civilizations, but also had differing characteristics that made each people its own. Civilization in the Americas originated as early as 7000 B.C. as a result of a land bridge between Asia and the Americas, formed when the Bering Strait connecting current day Russia with Alaska united the two continents during the Ice Age. The humans who crossed the land bridge, mostly hunter gatherers, eventually developed advanced civilizations throughout North and South America. By around 900 B.C., the Olmec civilization one of the first advanced civilizations in the Americas populated parts of Mexico and Central America, where they developed advancements such as building the first pyramids. About 200 years later, descendants of the Olmecs emerged the Maya, Zapotec, Totonac, and TeotihuacĆ”n civilizations. Over time, the Mayas, Aztecs, and Incas emerged as subsequent descendants of the first humans who populated the Americas. • 10. Characterism And Criticism In John Updike s A + P Every character in works of literature is subjected to criticism and critique by its readers. In the short story, A+P , the protagonist, Sammy has been subjected to criticism for his actions of quitting his job, a reaction of seeing young ladies be disrespected in his workplace for wearing bathing suits. Many readers depict Sammy as immature and ignorant for quitting his job. However, the author, John Updike contradicts this assumption, portraying Sammy as a nineteen year old, who demonstrates strong morals, ambition, defiance, and a promising future, characterizing him not as an insolent teen but a developing young man. Sammy displays his maturity through his strong morals by refusing to work in a profession where customers are degraded. Sammy, a cashier at A+P, is like a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sammy contains morals, yearnings for success, and defiance at only nineteen. Sammy achieves these standards that many individuals can not attain at nineteen, demonstrating his bright potential as an employee and a person. After Sammy resigns from his cashier job he steps out into the A+P parking lot. He remarks, The door heaves itself open, and outside the sunshine is skating around the asphalt (Updike). The sunshine and good weather when Sammy exits A+P is symbolic of his bright future, one filled with potential and success. His potential, which is granted to him by his previous actions, indicates that Sammy is capable of anything. Sammy was the only person who spoke in defense of the young girls who were ridiculed by Lengel, showing his kindness and compassion, which are admirable qualities of any employee. If Sammy did not have the courage to quit his job, he would spend the rest of his life as a cashier, catering to others needs rather than his own. • 11. The Book of Jonah Essay It is thought that Jonah, the fifth of the Minor Prophets, lived during the reign of Jeroboam II, when the kingdom was divided. (Lockyer, 198) Although the Book of Jonah is quite short, just two and one half pages, it is not short on themes. Because there are so many themes it is hard to classify or to determine its primary message. (Anchor 936 and New Interpreter s 490) These themes range from running away, praying, second chances, anger, and God s compassion and mercy, to name a few. The following will provide a brief explanation of each theme, previously mention, as it relates to the Book of Jonah. The first theme, running away and its consequences can be found in Chapter 1:1 2:1. Jonah is called by God to go to Nineveh and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Verse 5 states that each sailor cried to his god, which tells the reader that the sailors were pagans; therefore, the later interpretation is more likely. (New Interpreter s 496) The sailors cast lots to see whose fault it is for this situation. Using chance to find the perpetrator insinuates that it took divine intervention to single out Jonah. (New Interpreter s 498) The sailors ask Jonah who he was and where did he come from and Jonah s answer was I am a Hebrew. He also stated I worship the Lord, the God of heaven who made the sea and the dry land. The sailors believe that Jonah has brought the storm to them and asks What have you done? and What shall we do with you? (New American 1011) Feeling the weight of his guilt of running away from God, Jonah tells the sailors to throw him overboard. They comply unwillingly. Now the Lord still had a mission for Jonah and so he sent a large fish to swallow him up, which is where he stayed for three days and three nights. Certainly, the safest and simplest thing Jonah could have done would have been to go to Nineveh and preach against the city; therefore, running away is never a better answer. The second theme, prayer, occupies the majority of Chapter 2, specifically verses 3 10, the Psalm of Thanksgiving . This is thought to have been a later addition to the story, due to the fact that Jonah had not been saved yet. (Anchor 939) However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. An Integrative Typology Of Personality Assessment For... When it comes to selecting an employee for a job position, personality comes into play on account of the fact that it can affect behavior in the workplace. Whether positive or negative effects, it is important for the possibility of aggressive behavior to be considered as to avoid hiring persons who prove to be dishonorable toward the business through their negative actions. After reading An Integrative Typology of Personality Assessment for Aggression: Implications for Predicting Counterproductive Workplace Behavior, the authors heavily emphasize two cognitions: explicit and implicit. Their main concentration for this particular study involves aggression and how to properly test it using self report as well as a type of integrative typology. The implicit cognition is not accessible to consciousness and therefore measurable only by indirect means, suggesting that testing for aggressiveness requires an indirect measurement... integrated with a self report (page 723). The study sets out to prove the validity of these methods as a useful tool for businesses to determine the capabilities, whether positive or negative, of their potential or current employees. To help better understand the types of decisions being made in terms of aggression, the authors categorize employees into three sections: manifest aggressives, prosocials, latent aggressives, and overcompensating prosocials (page 724). Both latent aggressives and prosocials believe themselves to not be aggressive, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Blake expressed what he believed, and he wanted to prove his true understanding of Christianity. His audience for his poem understood Christianity and were familiar with the Bible. The poem establishes the theme of the vulnerability of innocence and a vision of the speaker. The child s view is limited on account of unawareness of the total reality of human knowledge. The voice of the poem is formed from a speaker that seems to be an innocent child, communicating with a lamb who is unable to answer or respond to the child. The rhyme scheme is similar to that of Dr. Seuss, it is like a nursery rhyme, and also a riddle. This is one of William s simpler poems, but with a closer analysis it reveals hidden symbols, meaning, tones, and wordplay. William Blake writes The Songs of Innocence, so this poem is obviously going to relate to some kind of innocence. It is revealed in the second stanza when the speaker addresses the lamb as if it knows who made it, and who gave it all of its features. However, the lamb or child does not answer, but of course it would not answer. This then causes the speaker to answer his own questions. Which proves that the lamb is too innocent to answer for itself. Dost thou know who made thee? /Little Lamb I ll tell thee (10 11). This displays the wordplay in the poem because the reader asks questions and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Pollution In Water Pollution Pollution is a major problem in water systems all around the world and in our creek. In our area, eutrophication and acid rain are the two main pollution problems in our area. Eutrophication can be caused by sewage treatment plants, home sewage systems, and farm fertilizer runoff. Acid rain can be caused by the burning of fossil fuel. Eutrophication causes plants to die and when the plants die, the bacteria from the dead plants use up the oxygen from the water, which causes the fish to die. Photo Credits to Alex Cathers My hypothesis is if the creek has higher levels of phosphates and nitrates, and lower level of dissolved oxygen, then the creek will be polluted. The levels of nitrates and phosphates should be near 0 ppm for the creek to not be considered polluted. The dissolved oxygen levels should be higher if the creek is healthy. Dissolved oxygen is essentially the amount of oxygen in the water. For the acid rain test, we put a solution on different rocks to see if the acid dissolved the rocks. The nitrate and phosphate test involved getting a specific amount of creek water, putting different solutions in the water, and matching the solutions with other vials to determine the state of the water.Photo Credits to Alex Cathers There were 487 macroinvertebrates that were found in total at the creek. 308 were pollution sensitive, 101 were somewhat pollution tolerant, and 78 were pollution tolerant. Snyder prompts us with the question of what it means to truly return to the wild. The words wild and nature although similar have different meanings yet tend to be used interchangeably by our society. According to Snyder respecting nature is a fundamental part of Buddhist tradition; a way of life he has chosen to follow. Nature to him is defined as all living things and the environment surrounding them but, he does refer to nature as outdoors as well. The wild is formal and free as compared to our modern civilizations, Snyder states that it may be easier to state what the wild is not rather than to define it. • 19. Land and Soil Degradation Assessment Chapter 3 3.1 Introduction Land and soil degradation assessments have recently become more fashionable responding to environmental concerns particularly in industrial countries, following the lead in developing countries that have claimed significant effects of land degradation on their agricultural production and food security. The underlying causes of degradation have been very often the basic socio economic structure and institutional structures of developing economies. Among them are land shortage, inappropriate land tenure arrangements, poverty, and population growth. However, the diverse factors that contribute to the problem make it necessary that a comprehensive approach is taken by the authorities responsible for policy in different areas such as food security, forests, soil conservation, and water resources. 3.2 National contexts, South Africa South Africa is located, as one might expect, on the southern tip of Africa. A boring subject about people long since dead, a class with WAY too much homework or with a professor who enjoys giving droning lectures. Therefore, most students look at history classes as just another set of credits to get out of the way for graduation. However, in my case, it is viewed a bit differently. Best example recently would be the internet stocks from 1996 through 2002 where the price of the internet stock roses over its fair value until the market forces the price back to its original level (Russell J. Financial economists have argued that representativeness leads to overreaction in stock returns (Eugene Fama F1998). In the case of internet companies, great revenue growth for a short time in the late 1990s, causing many to believe that this growth would continue indefinitely. Stock prices rose (too much) at this point. When, at last, investors realized that this growth could not be sustained, prices plummeted. On the other hand, the theory of conservatism states that individuals adjust their beliefs too slowly to new information. A market composed of this type of investor would likely lead to stock prices that under react in the presence of new information. This is shown in the example of earning surprises . The language that Gilead uses to categorize and identify people within its society breaks unity among members, and completely changes the meaning and value of the word feminine . Addressing the females that are no longer able to reproduce as unwomen gives Gilead the power to take the only thing that remains to bond them. While it is not uncommon for different cultures to have varying views about how women interact within their civilizations, the officials of Gilead almost completely remove women as members of society. Atwood wisely uses names as a tool to connect with the audience because the use of names is a fundamental element of society that occurs routinely and at a high frequency. The Causes And Impacts Of The World Trade Center The original World Trade Center, constructed between 1975 and 1985, was a complex of seven buildings occupying a 16 block area in Lower Manhattan. At the heart of the World Trade Center (WTC) stood 1 WTC and 2 WTC, also known as the Twin Towers. These towers occupied nearly an acre each and stood 110 stories high. When completed, 1 WTC was the tallest building in the world. The Twin Towers stood as a symbol of America s power in the global economy. Because of this, the World Trade Center was a massive target for terrorism. On February 26th, 1993, a small moving truck was filled with 1500 pounds of explosives and detonated in the underground parking garage of the North Tower. This attack killed 6 people, injured over a thousand and lead to structural damage in the subsurface structure of the tower. Unfortunately, this was just a warning of what was yet to come. On September 11th, 2001, two commercial airliners were hijacked by terrorists and flown into the North and South Towers (1 WTC and 2 WTC). The impact from these crashes and the heat caused by the burning of excess jet fuel after the impact caused the buildings to collapse killing over 2600 people. Debris from the collapse damaged the remainder of the seven buildings eventually leading to them being demolished. To recover from the physical and emotional loss in Lower Manhattan, a new World Trade Center has been planned. The site is now home to the new 1 WTC (The Freedom Tower), 2 WTC, 3 WTC, 4 WTC, 7 WTC, National September 11 Memorial and Museum, and the World Trade Center Transportation Hub.
