Orchestra Performance Analysis
I have improved in many ways this year as a performer and member of the Orchestra. I have become
more confident in my abilities as a musician and am more willing to make mistakes. I am now a more
fluent sight reader, due to the many songs that we had to play this year. I also think i have improved
my sight reading through the sight reading smart musics we had at the beginning of the year. I have
become much better at tuning my own instrument this year, along with playing in tune. I have also
learned to adjust my bowings to what the people in front of me are doing and to look up at Miss.
Minnis for cues and to stay on tempo. I think I have improved my playing significantly through many
techniques, such as learning third position and understanding key signature. I do think that I can still
improve on these things ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While I think there were some mistakes, like bowings and being out of tune, I think the overall
performance sounded good. Only a few individuals made small mistakes, but because it was a small
ensemble it was noticeable. While practicing with the small ensemble, I think it was hard for everyone
to agree on things because there were so many different opinions and voices. I also think we should
have practiced more at home because individual instruments were out of tune and/or not on the right
rhythm. I also think i was hard to practice all together and get work done because so many different
people needed help on specific sections which was time consuming and could have just been practiced
at home. Yet I think we all did a good job staying together as a group with our tempo and looking at
our first violinist for cues. I highly enjoyed the ability to chose our own song because it was a song
that almost all of us enjoyed playing and had fun learning. I also liked when the other groups gave us
feedback on what we could improve in our song, because it gave an outside opinion and was very

Don Quijote and the Neuroscience of Metafiction Essay
Don Quijote and the Neuroscience of Metafiction
What is metafiction? Its original meaning was a fiction that both creates an illusion and lays bare that
illusion. 1 But the term has expanded and expanded to include any fiction that even mentions the idea
of fiction. That can cover a lot of things, starting with the
Iliad.2
I d like to go back to the original idea. In my understanding, metafictions tell stories in which the
physical medium of the story becomes part of the story. Among contemporary writers of fiction one
could mention: my erstwhile colleagues John Barth, Donald Barthelme, and Ray Federman. Others are
Borges, Calvino, Nabokov, Umberto Eco, John Fowles,
Salman Rushdie, and on and on. Metafiction has become very ... Show more content on

But reallife
Charlie Kaufman, who is a character in the movie, is outdone as a screenwriter by his devil may care
twin brother Donald (who is totally fictitious, but played by the same actor,
Nicolas Cage. who plays Charlie). (By the way, both real life Charlie and fictitious Donald appear in
the credits for the film.) In the course of the film, the writer who wrote the article comes to see the real
life orchid thief. As the plot develops, the writers of the film become characters in the (fictional) film
that they are writing and I am watching. Adaptation, writes its New York Times reviewer, A. O. Scott,

anxiety, or paranoid. 3 Like Scott, I too feel dizzy and uncertain and delighted at this toying with
levels of reality. But why panic ?
Why anxiety ?
A cute, short example of metafilm comes in the Marx Brothers Horse Feathers.
Groucho turns to the camera, that is, the audience us and comments on the movie he is in: I ve gotta
stay here, but there s no reason you folks shouldn t go out in the lobby till this thing blows over.
You can create such an exotic effect even with criticism. One of my favorites in the world of
metafiction occurs in a comical book by Charles Simmons called Powdered Eggs.
Powdered Eggs includes a supposed review

Brain Stimulation Experiment
In this experiment to find out the effect that stimulation has on the brain fuction of young kids/test
subjects. The independent variable was the environment that the rats were placed into. Also the
ambience of the cages were also altered for the outcome of the experiment. These changes were
crucial to the experiment because it symbolizes the different atmospheres a child can grow up in and
how the presence of or lack of stimulating objects can affect the child s brain development. The
dependent variable which is what was measure was amount of cell growth in the brain of the rats as
well as the levels of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase which is located in the brain. This is able to
speed up transmission of impulses through brain cells which means that the more of this enzyme
found, the more advanced brain function the rat has. Another dependent variable was whether the rat s
brain was smooth or if it had more complex folds which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

validity in this study was the code numbers on the rats when they were looking for results this was
important because this way no one was able to try to look for ordinary things that would normally be
missed; but since the scientist knew what he was looking for he found it and because of that it wouldn

a one time fluke that even after doing it with many different rats the results were still the same. They
also used rats from the same litter to make sure the rats were as similar as possible to further increase
validity. This also means that someone at a different lab would be able to recreate the experiment.
Without out being able to recreate it the results would be

Instructional Technology As A Problem Solving Tool For...
Blended learning has been a popular topic in education over the past decade. With the rapid
advancement of technology in recent years and the ever increasing demands on teaching staff, there is
a scramble to find the golden goose the key to harmonizing technology and education in order to reach
more students and ease the burden of teachers. It becomes more than just an issue of getting
technology into the classroom because hundreds of thousands of classrooms already have technology
capabilities. It becomes an issue of how to train teachers to use instructional technology and truly
integrate it into curriculum. It becomes an issue of how to make technology a problem solving tool for
students of all ages and learning styles.
Some researchers believe blended learning to be the golden goose for education which raises even
more issues and many questions. What instructional technologies can be useful in K 12 subjects? How
can instructional technology be used in college and professional development for adults? Is blended
learning the future of education? Can blended learning influence various learning styles and create a
deeper knowledge base? What professional development programs can we offer to ensure that future
teachers are prepared to operate technology in the classroom? The purpose of this paper is to examine
the aspects of blended learning and how instructional technologies can facilitate lessons across many
subjects and age groups. Blended learning is

Keyence Vhx-5000 Week 3 Problem Analysis Paper
The digital microscope Keyence VHX 5000 is a method, which is easy to handle and supports
research with high resolution images and the calculation of 3D surface models. Several functions
make it easy and quick to work with: The 3D function also allows clear 2D images of a rough surface,
because all levels are focused automatically and a sharp image of all levels will be created. This
function makes it easy to analyse deep cuts, which can be only partially focused in light microscopy or
electron microscopy. To calculate a 3D surface model the lower and upper border of the depth of
interest has to be determined, by focusing on these levels. Between these borders a level difference of
five microns were chosen. In other words, after every scan the lens moves five microns from the
sample away. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To avoid steps between the different levels, the edges will be rounded. Therefore a minimal resolution
of five microns is valid for the cut mark measurements, although the software allows measurements
till to decimals because of its logarithm to calculate the surface. In this dissertation, all measurements
are fully specified. However, a less accuracy of values less than five microns must not be forgotten.
Higher resolutions till one micrometre are also possible, but the number of scanned levels is restricted.
Therefore it is possible to analyse fine cut marks in a higher resolution, but in this case, cuts were up
to 1 mm deep and a smaller resolution is sufficient. Using this resolution, the ends of cuts, which are
very flat, were excluded because their size is approximately under 15 microns and therefore
inaccuracies in measurement increase, which might influence the

Starbucks Organic Growth Essay
In the United States, an organic growth might be the only choice that Starbucks could make as a start
up domestic company that introduced a relatively new value proposition of café: providing the highest
quality coffee in a comfortable third place setting. Starbucks had to pioneer its market in the United
States, so its mission was letting customers know Starbucks brand, forming a good brand image,
developing new product lines, and organizing supply chains. Nothing might be happened without an
organic growth that seeks customer base expansion and brand development. Additionally, according to
Exhibit 4, Starbucks was a small company until late 1980s in terms of a financial circumstance.
Starbucks may not able to do an aggressive acquisition. An organic growth was the only way that
Starbucks can choose as a relatively new, small company. According to Exhibit 5, Starbucks entry into
Japan in 1996 was the first time that Starbucks opened its store outside of North America. Until 1995,
Starbucks was mostly relied on North American market, which is its home market. Since Starbucks
did not have international experience, its entry into Japan was a right choice. Japan s advanced,
organized business infrastructure and environment might help Starbucks to smoothly adapt to
international business. Moreover, as the market that has the second largest economy, the Japanese
market had huge potential to be profitable. Starbucks chose a joint venture with Sazaby, the Japanese

Frame Narrative In Beowulf
Early English literature proceeds from orally transmitted storytelling, relying on the construction of an
epic past to develop a sense of patriotism within the country. As written culture becomes more
prevalent, however, this genre s timeless attribute diminishes due an increase in recorded history
which gradually turns literature s focus from mystical origins to a concrete present. Frame narrative,
or stories within a story, exist prevalently within the epic genre, but persist throughout this transition,
generally preserving structure, but mutating in function. Although early literature forms like the epic
employ frame narratives to convey their grandiose style, the transition from historical epics to satirical
poetry aligns with frame narrative s transition as an element of style to one of theme. In British oral
tradition, storytelling mainly serves to instill patriotic zeal within citizens. The advent of literacy
results in the transcription of these stories, which predominantly take the form of the epic: an origin
story in which an epic hero displays heroic acts in a setting with few temporal cues, disconnecting the
story from any specific point in history. Beowulf, one such epic, exhibits these properties, with events
transpiring without indication of the relative passage of time. One literary device which lends itself to
the manifestation of this quality, the frame narrative, muddles the reader s perspective of time by
constantly by jumping between events in the main

Pride And Prejudice, By Chinua Achebe, And Jane Austen
All three writers, Julie Otsuka, Chinua Achebe, and Jane Austen apply the aspect of morality to their
novels. They do so through aspects of money or marriage such as in Pride and Prejudice as well as in
No Longer at Ease. The authors are able to persuade the reader into thinking not only about what the
character believes is right or wrong, but also to think about whom morality and immorality is defined
by. In these three novels, Pride and Prejudice as well as in No Longer at Ease and When the Emperor
was Divine, ethics is not always defined by the main character but by the society that the character
lives in. The challenges faces while dealing with these ethical ideas is something each character
struggles with and is determined to overcome.
Pride and Prejudice raises important moral issues centered on the idea of marriage and specifically
how important the role of money can influence the moral actions of people. Jane Austen revealing to
us the importance of money in marriage and then leaving it to the readers to decide for themselves
what is moral and what is immoral; specifically, the scene where the main character Elizabeth s sister
mentions that Darcy, whom is in love with Elizabeth, pays for the marriage of Lydia and Mr.
Wickham. This raises the question of whether it is Mr. Darcy s duty to do this or was it not his place to
pay for the wedding? Darcy overlooks Elizabeth s underprivileged financial status and goes out of his
way to guarantee that Wickham marries Lydia

extraordinary gift of treading a fine line between criticizing the follies of his characters and
sympathizing with those very follies.

1 Kings is a narrative and chronological history of Israel. Its author is unknown, although it is
commonly believed to be either the Prophet Jeremiah, or another prophet working at the same time as
Jeremiah. The book was written between 971 BC 848 BC. 1 Kings can be divided into two sections; A
united kingdom, 1 Kings 1:1 11:43, a divided kingdom (1 Kings 12:1 22:53). 1 Kings appears as a
continuation of the books of Samuel until the narrative takes a unique turn at the death of Solomon
and a major event occurs. The once united kingdom divides into the Northern Kingdom of Israel and
the Southern Kingdom of Judah. At this point, the narrative becomes a parallel accounting of
monarchs from both kingdoms. The author selects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Becoming A Good Writer
To me, the best writing is when you can t put the book down and want to keep reading more and more.
It is when you can make a personal connection to whatever the characters are going through in their
life. To make a good piece of writing you have to have many things, but most importantly you should
have good vocabulary, punctuation, and sentence fluency so that it is easy to follow.
I know that writing will always be an important thing in my life. I m taking Foundations of Writing to
prepare myself for college and to learn how to become a better writer. I will use what I learned in this
class while I am writing college papers or even for a future job.
When I am given an assignment, the first thing I do is think about how I am going to write it. Then I
begin writing down my thoughts until I can t think of anything else to add. When I have no new ideas
I start to get bored and then I begin to procrastinate. Procrastinating is one of my biggest weaknesses.
I always wait until just a few days before the paper is due to really start working on it hard. Another
weakness of mine is that it s hard for me to put my thoughts into words and sentences that make sense.
Something I have never understood are semicolons. I don t know when I should use them and when I
should not. I would say that my biggest strengths are that I always write in complete sentences and use
good vocabulary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After I complete this class I hope that I will know how to correctly use semicolons and that I won t
have to question when to use them. In this class I want to push myself and become a better writer. I

Essay Comparing Counter Attack and the Soldier
Comparing The Soldier and Counter Attack
At the beginning of the century two ideas prevailed about what war was like; it was either heroic or
mere butchery. These ideas are represented in the 2 poems The Soldier by Rupert Brookes and
Counter Attack by Siegfried Sassoon.
Rupert Brooke (1887 1915) was an accomplished poet in WW1. Unlike Sassoon, Brooke never fought
at the front line, but joined the Mediterranean Navy where he died of a mosquito bite. Rupert Brooke
expressed his feelings about war (war being a heroic act) through poems such as The Soldier where he
talks about the solemnity of the soldier and represented war as the ultimate sacrifice and honourable
act for your country. Siegfried Sassoon (1887 1967), however, was a ... Show more content on

Whereas, Brooke s The Soldier glorifies death, emphasises the greatness of England and shows
soldiers are proud to be English and fighting for her sights and sounds .
WE D gained our first objective hours before , is the first line in Counter Attack . The personal pro
noun WE D is emphasised in the poem telling the reader that THEY (him and the soldiers) have
accomplished their objective and could imply that the generals or people in higher command have not.
This sends a message to the reader that generals do not accomplish tasks/objectives. Adding to this, by
describing the soldiers as Pallid, unshaved and thirsty tells the reader that they are lacking in, colour,
spirit or intensity. This conveys the message that soldiers are not happy or proud to be in the war. On
the contrary, Brooke uses personification; gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given
which helps to convey the message that he is proud to be in the war. In addition, Counter Attack
portrays death to be of mere importance and not elegant dead green clumsy legs . Green and clumsy
presents death as not glorious but mere butchery. By Contrast, Rupert Brooke describes his dead body
as A richer dust concealed which portrays death as an experience to cherish and not to fear. Finally,
Rupert Brooke uses words such as: CORNER of a foreign field , richer dust CONCEALED and body
of ENGLAND to convey the message that there were many soldiers who died

1.0 Introduction Due to outstanding properties, graphene got more attention by the scientific
community; all its exceptional properties are owing to hexagonal monolayer of honeycomb lattice
packed with carbon atoms. The mechanical properties of graphene have been investigated using
various experimental, theoretical and computational approaches. By experimental based work, Lee et
al. [1] estimated the mechanical properties of graphene such as Young s modulus of about 1.0 ± 0.1
TPa and fracture strength of 130 ± 10 GPa. Frank et al. [2] estimated Young s modulus of 0.5 TPa for
2 to 8nm thickness of graphene sheets. Zhang et al. [3] measured Young s modulus of 0.89 TPa for
single layer graphene sheet. Besides experimental work, numerous theoretical and computational
studies have been carried out to investigate mechanical properties of graphene. By orthogonal tight
binding method Zhao et al. [4] estimated Young s modulus of 1.01 ± 0.03 and fracture strength and
strain of 107 GPa and 0.20 in zigzag direction and 90 GPa and 0.13 in armchair direction respectively.
By Ab initio calculation Liu et al. [5] estimated young s modulus of 1.05 TPa and also estimated

How The And Start Right From The Beginning Here Essay
I m going to try and start right from the beginning here. When we think of data communication
nowadays, we think of digital information. We live in a world where technology is so abundant, that
we couldn t possibly imagine what life would be like without it. I m not talking about having to write
letters, or use the telephone exchange, I m talking about the beginning. Before there was data
communication, there was simply communication. So much about our evolution is unknown, that we
can t simply piece together the entire history of communication, but we as humans today do have a
brief understanding of how our species learnt to communicate, and how this has shaped our world
today. One of the first methods of communication (besides verbal) was paintings. Painting (or drawing
in general) is one of the earliest methods of communication, and is still very prominent to this day.
The act of turning thoughts or ideas into a physical representation develops in humans at a very young
age, and is the main form of communication used by babies up until they can speak. In my person
opinion, painting isn t a the best form of communication today, as writing is far easier to understand.
Painting is useful if you wish to convey your ideas through the use of metaphors, but the practicality
of using it today as a direct method of communication is limited. The next big advancement in
communication was the development of writing. Writing was developed in two stages. The first forms
of writing were

With a little bit of look into this question I found some exciting information that brings me closer to an
answer to this difficult question. The American Journal of Agriculture of Economics has postulated
that the egg has arrived first. Within the article they have done some mathematical experiments on this
case and have rejected the hypothesis that eggs do not cause chickens but that chickens cause eggs, so
plainly stateing that the egg was the first(25). So they concluded that the egg came first. Walter
Thurman and Mark Fisher provided this outcome after a series of surveys on chickens and eggs
around the agriculture market.
A forum at UCLA seems to offer more of an opposing view to this question. Scientifically the idea
that the chicken came first is more appealing. They tend to go along with the theory of evolution
provided from Darwin. UCLA students hypothesis that since chickens are a bird species and that birds
evolved from dinosaurs, the chicken would have to come first on the timeline. I tend to agree
Thomas, 3 with this because it would seem awful hard for a chicken to raise it self if it just came from
an egg. Also I believe in the theory that the chicken came first because of a more obvious aspect. If
you were to look at humans, we also come from an egg, even though it is not quite like the egg

Being a recognize company, with well known brands will allow ChuChu to compete directly with the
biggest baby food companies in Brazil while being able to use BRF s distributions centers and partner
retailers. In order to educate our audience, we will place The Best for Your CHUCHU kiosks around
supermarkets that provide parents with classes and information about organic food and the importance
of the nutrients to their baby. We will have these educational bases throughout supermarkets and baby
stores for around 2 months before we get our product out to the whole country. Resistance to our
product might come from being a new brand as well as the word organic. If there is any resistance to
the products, we will conduct surveys to know more about the customers that assisted to our classes
and ask them for input on their point of view towards the product.
. The Market
The baby food industry in Brazil is highly competitive. Especially with brands from Nestle and
Unilever that are the industry leaders. Since we will be joining ventures with BRF, we will have the
competitive advantage of their distribution and supplier channels, as well as their brand image.
The major cities such as Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Salvador, among other big cities that hold
the majority of our target market, will be the cities we will enter at the beginning. Since these are
metropolitan cities, transportation is advanced as well as easy to enter. Sao Paulo is located in

Side Effects Of The American Revolution
The end of the American Revolution brought about a new sense of triumph for the privileged white
male colonist but did little in the sense of improving the lives of Native Americans, African Americans
and women. In fact, improvement in the lives of these groups was an unintended side effect of the
revolution, not the desired result.
In the beginning of the American Revolution, most Native Americans wished to remain neutral but
eventually sided with the British in hopes of preventing the American colonists from further
appropriating their land. When the American colonist won the American Revolution, the British failed
to protect their allies and offered Native American land to America in the Treaty of Paris.

The Black Cat , in which the narrator related a series of most wild yet most homely events he went
through, is one of Edgar Allan Poe s masterpieces. The narrator first told readers that he had loved
animals so much that he was often laughed at by his companions. He and his wife had many pets,
among which a giant black cat called Pluto was their favourite. But it has all changed since he became
an alcoholic. He suddenly lost his temper and his love for animals. He began to abuse them, including
Pluto. He digged out its eyes because the cat, out of terror, bit him, and then he hung it because he
thought Pluto was avoiding him. That night his house caught a fire and they were reduced to an old
house due to poverty. One day he found a cat

Walt Whitney Descriptive Writing
The sound of Whitney s voice sing filled the camp with joy and positivity. For the first time in five
days i finally dropped some timber and it was a five star poo. I looked up and a woodpecker looked
right back at me. This started my morning off right. The group was a lot slower today due to will
trying to get his glasses out of the water, his attempt failed. It was sad to see but he stayed positive.
Madison and Ava were today s leaders. We had a five mile hike to go, trekking through enormous
boulders all off trail. There were beautiful lakers along the way. At Hortense lake i met eye to eye with
this volcanic crater mountain that i had seen the day before. It was amazing to see it so close because
yesterday i remember hiking and looking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Madison and Grace were the only two that went down it. While everyone was having a good time the
leaders announced that were were going to camp out there.
Craig made a fire and i went off to collect some firewood. When i dropped off a huge load of wood i
decide to go off on a walk alone. I ended up scaling the side of a massive hill. When i made it to the
top i walked to the ledge and felt so many different emotions. I couldn t let this breath taking view go
to waste so i did one of my favorite things... yoga. It was the most peaceful yoga session i had ever
had in my life. I felt connected with my body.
An hour after doing yoga Aziah and Laudi came up and told me that everyone was looking for me. We
went down and Craig played his factoid game. It was getting late and we were finishing setting our
tents and meals. My group had miso soup and fried rice it was delicious.
Once it was night everyone came outside to see the lunar eclipse. We had a clear sky and i got to see
three shooting stars. It was beautiful. Delaney let me cuddle with her in her sleeping bag which kept
me really warm. Craig told us an origin story that made it easier to fall

Character Development In Macbeth By William Shakespeare
There are many constants among great tragedies, internal/external conflict, plot development, a
problem, but one of the most important aspects to a tragedy is the development of the main character,
typically from better to worse. For a story to develop and become more interesting as it goes, the
character s personalities must evolve and develop simultaneously. Without this crucial aspect, readers
could not become attached or interested in characters and the issues they face, since they would never
change. Just as in life, the development in personality is vital to keeping the relationship between
reader and character interesting. In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Shakespeare uses various
language and diction devices to display an evolution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All aspects of nobility, honesty, and valiance that were once parts of Macbeths personality, had left
him for good. Macbeths thirst for power grows out of control, he gets himself so deep in a hole of
repeated murders, acts of treason, and personal betrayals, that Macbeth becomes resented and vilified
by all, regarded as a ruthless tyrant. With the many ruthless acts Macbeth had committed; the killing
of his King, the killing of Banquo, as well as the attempted killing of Banquo s son, Fleance, Macbeth
finds himself becoming more paranoid of who the next enemy might be. Macbeth orders another
senseless act out of paranoia and ruthlessness in Act IV, What, you egg? Young fry of treachery! He
has killed me mother. (4.2.94 97) Macbeth had hired murderers to kill the family of Macduff, someone
he fears may be plotting to resist him as king. By this point in the play, Macbeth had become a tyrant,
who, in trying to kill him resisters, ended up created more of them. With Macbeth growing more
ruthless and more tyrannical, he began to lose touch with the things he once cares about the most, the
biggest being his wife, Lady Macbeth. She should have died hereafter there would have been a time
for such a word tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow (5.5.20 23). Macbeth is informed that his
wife, which he once called his dearest partner in greatness had died, and all Macbeth had to say about

Memoir Of The Warsaw Uprising Analysis
The novel A Memoir of the Warsaw Uprising written by Miron Białoszewski takes readers on a
journey through the Warsaw Uprising. In the beginning, one can identify that the novel is written in
first person and feel safe to assume that the writer is writing a memoir based off of his personal
experience of the Uprising from Tuesday, August 1, 1944 [to]...the morning of October 2, 1944 .
Instead of giving readers a synopsis of the event, Białoszewski recounts his memories of the five
month period as a civilian and takes accounts of the Uprising s aftermath up until he sees what
remained of Warsaw in February 1945. With Soviet armies on the fringes of Warsaw, the Polish capital
dismayed Nazi occupation. Białoszewski began to write during the German occupation. A Memoir of
the Warsaw Uprising offers an eye to maintaining interpretation of the Uprising and also offers readers
his self revelations where he seeks clues to his own personality and career at the time he wrote the
memoir. Białoszewski is a true revisionist in his presentation of the Warsaw Uprising and in his
approach to the memoir category of artistic composition. Memory can be a useful historical device
because memory gives history an emotional meaning and a flow. Memory can be unbeneficial because
as time goes on, details are lost.
A Memoir of the Warsaw Uprising completely relies on Miron Białoszewski s memory of the 1944
insurrection. His memories are subject to modification as he tries to jog back his memory and

Viewers Perceptions of On-Air Cursing Essay
This study used a 2 x 2 x 2 design to examine the effects of warning labels, bleeping, and gender on
viewers perceptions and enjoyment of a docu drama. We also examined the individual difference
variable of verbal aggressiveness to test for possible interactions. Overall, the warning labels increased
enjoyment of the program containing profanity among college students. Bleeping had no effect on
either program liking or perceptions of realism; however, bleeping decreased perceptions of the
program s offensiveness, and increased viewers perceptions of profanity frequently estimates. Lastly,
verbally aggressive participants perceived the program as more realistic, and the language as less
offensive

Another airing of the same program self censored (or quot;bleeped quot;) the profanity. Therefore,
although program ratings have allowed viewers greater opportunity to filter their viewing, lowered
norms of self censorship have perhaps broadened the material available to them. These less restrictive
norms, on one hand, and more frequent labeling of material, on the other, lead us to ask how labels
and self censoring affect the enjoyment and perceptions of program content by viewers. Therefore, the
current study uses an experimental design to examine the effects of program labels and self censoring
on the perceptions and enjoyment of viewers. First, we will discuss the possible effects of warnings
and self censoring (bleeping) on viewers enjoyment and perceptions of the content. Next, we will
consider possible individual differences in viewers responses to the manipulations.
The Effects of Program Ratings and Warning Labels
Although few studies on program warnings had been conducted prior to the 1990s (see, however,
Austin, 1980; Herman amp; Leyens, 1977; Wurtzel amp; Surlin, 1978), the current use of program
warnings and ratings by the networks, combined with the increase in parental concern about
problematic media content (Cantor, Stutman amp; Duran, 1996), has created an environment in which
research into this issue has become more prevalent. A majority of these studies is grounded in
reactance theory (Brehm, 1981). Reactance

Norman Rockwell s The Runaway
Description Norman Rockwell s piece of work, The Runaway, is painted on a canvas. This famous
artwork is known as an oil painting. The Runaway was painted during 1958 and measures 35 x 33 .
This amazing piece of work can currently be found in the Norman Rockwell Museum in his collection
of artworks. This museum is located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Normal Rockwell used state
trooper Richard J. Clemens Jr. to model as the state trooper in the painting and used eight year old Ed
Locke to pose as the boy. The painting was created at the Howard Johnson s Restaurant. The Runaway
s scene shows a little boy sitting at a counter. He looks to be the subject of the artwork. He looks like
he may be around the age of eight and has short, almost buzzed cut, blonde hair. This little boy is
wearing a yellow shirt, blue jeans, and a brown belt. His shirt is tucked in and he has what looks like a
jacket in his lap. He jeans are scrunched up, showing his white socks and shoes. The laces on his
shoes seem to be untied. To the boy s left sits a state trooper. He looks to be in his late thirties or
possible early forties. He is in his full officer uniform, which consists ... Show more content on

When looking at the artwork it is easy to see the fatherly feeling Norman Rockwell put into it. When
anyone thinks about a runaway child, you would not picture this image Rockwell created. It overflows
with a safe, secure feeling that the child is okay. This is what Norman Rockwell wanted however. He
wanted to show the importance of keeping children safe and therefore put two fatherly figures in the
painting with the boy. Norman could have painted it with just the boy sitting there alone and a waiter
who ignored him. This would make us think the boy is alone and has no protection. However,
Rockwell did not want that to be the message. Instead he depicted the two men as the boy s protection

Identification Szymborska
The endless altering matters of society remain controversial among its many spectators; nevertheless,
Wislawa Szymborska views these matters as vacuous dictations. Szymborska confronts her
perspective of society through her recurrent theme of mockery and wit, in which cultivates a comical
aspect of her poetry. The comical aspects throughout some of Szymborska s poetry exploits the
changing standards of society, the dictation that society places on an individual, the false sense of
comfort that is provided by society, and the true state of oblivion that society resides in. This
scrutinization of society remains within an underlying tone of ridicule and aversion, which is
conveyed through Szymborska s a vast amount of devices, such as juxtaposition, ... Show more

This state of denial can be prominently depicted within Szymborska s poem, Identification. The poem
presents a chronological experience of a woman s developing emotions as she rejects the fact that her
husband had past away. The false sense of security resides within this poem, as the repetition of it s
good you came, presumably attempts to formulate a positive motif throughout the morbid poem(1, 17,
23). The comfort of others conceals the genuine emotion of loneliness, as the death of a loved one
creates a false sense of reality; therefore, the constant reminder that someone else was with the
recipient of the bad news, reminds them that they are not completely alone in the world. Furthermore,
the sense of denial is continued through the hope of objects just being ordinary, such as, a scrap of
shirt, a watch, [and] a wedding ring. Szymborska uses this asyndeton in order to create a sense of
irony, as the objects become more specific as the names on that ring (10); nevertheless, this creates a
false sense of comfort for the aspect that anyone could own these objects, in which portrays the
yearning for a confirmation that the speaker s loved one was not affiliated with this tragedy.
Szymborska s use of the euphemism, rubber sleeping bag, facilitates the endeavor to maintain the
attempted positive motif, despite the rubber sleeping bag referring to a body bag (24). The body bag
provides a false sense of a lighthearted connotation of a sleeping bag to being the cruel reality of
death. Throughout Identification, Szymborska mocks the oblivion and denial of the woman despite the
morbid context of the poem. Through this method Szymborska further implies that one should face
reality. Precisely as society should not be dictated without truly analyzing the true intention of

Sexual Assault Interview
I interviewed two women and one man about the University of Iowa s efforts with respect to sexual
assault on campus. The first person I interviewed was a twenty one year old woman from England
named Gina. Michaela, an eighteen year old female from a small town Southern Baptist high school,
was the second female I interviewed. The only man I interviewed was Matt, a 19 year old male from a
mid sized town. I began by asking each of my interviewees what messages they had heard about
sexual assault on the University of Iowa campus and where they had heard these messages. Gina
talked about a time in which she saw people walking around with t shirts on about sexual assault
awareness and was reminded of a lesson she had on it in a Global On Iowa ... Show more content on

Our conversations prompted some other questions about the background knowledge they had on
sexual assault, and how the University talked about it versus how their prior schools had discussed the
subject. It was interesting to get a male point of view on the topic because I, along with a lot of other
women on campus, feel like they don t have to deal with the topic of sexual assault as much as we do.
Especially with the required attendance of lectures and educationals on the subject for both the
University and the Greek Life programs. I felt frustrated at times that we all wanted more information
about the sexual assaults that have occurred on campus, but we obviously didn t want to information
about the victim to become public knowledge as it is their private business. I would agree with a
majority of the responses given to the questions, especially the discussion of the My Cup is Not My
Consent campaign. As well intentioned as it was, that campaign is more a joke now, and we don t
want to the University of Iowa to be unintentionally promoting rape jokes. I also think that the men on
campus should be required to attend just as many sexual assault seminars as the women do. This issue
should be just as much theirs as ours. Perhaps if everyone had a better understanding what to look for
in potential sexual assault situations, then there would be less sexual assaults occurring on campus.

Summary Of The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
Bradbury s Words to You
Desmond Tutu, a South African leader once said, You do not choose your family. They are God s gift
to you, as you are to them. In the short story The Veldt , Ray Bradbury conveys the idea that no
material object that has ever been crafted, is more valuable than your family because your family
provides you with vital growth. He does this by telling the tragic tale of parents Lydia and George who
are killed by their spoiled and technology obsessed children, Wendy and Peter. Through foreshadow,
symbolism and imagery, Bradbury believes that kids need to respect their parents, otherwise there will
be grave consequences.
Bradbury uses the term The Happy House in an ironic manner to foreshadow the very unhappy demise
of the Hadley family. The Hadley s home consists of an abundance of high technological machines to
do all the work around the house for them, called the Happylife Home . The description of the house
provides the reader with an understanding that the family is very lazy for having machines doing all
the work for them as they are described as ... the house that bathed and fed them and was good to them
. However, despite the comforts this home brings, the Hadley parents become more and more worried
with the machines throughout the story. The beginning of the story foreshadows this: George, I wish
you d look at the nursery. What s wrong with it? I don t know. I just want you to look at it, is all, or
call a psychologist in to look at it.

  • 2. Orchestra Performance Analysis I have improved in many ways this year as a performer and member of the Orchestra. I have become more confident in my abilities as a musician and am more willing to make mistakes. I am now a more fluent sight reader, due to the many songs that we had to play this year. I also think i have improved my sight reading through the sight reading smart musics we had at the beginning of the year. I have become much better at tuning my own instrument this year, along with playing in tune. I have also learned to adjust my bowings to what the people in front of me are doing and to look up at Miss. Minnis for cues and to stay on tempo. I think I have improved my playing significantly through many techniques, such as learning third position and understanding key signature. I do think that I can still improve on these things ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While I think there were some mistakes, like bowings and being out of tune, I think the overall performance sounded good. Only a few individuals made small mistakes, but because it was a small ensemble it was noticeable. While practicing with the small ensemble, I think it was hard for everyone to agree on things because there were so many different opinions and voices. I also think we should have practiced more at home because individual instruments were out of tune and/or not on the right rhythm. I also think i was hard to practice all together and get work done because so many different people needed help on specific sections which was time consuming and could have just been practiced at home. Yet I think we all did a good job staying together as a group with our tempo and looking at our first violinist for cues. I highly enjoyed the ability to chose our own song because it was a song that almost all of us enjoyed playing and had fun learning. I also liked when the other groups gave us feedback on what we could improve in our song, because it gave an outside opinion and was very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Don Quijote and the Neuroscience of Metafiction Essay Don Quijote and the Neuroscience of Metafiction What is metafiction? Its original meaning was a fiction that both creates an illusion and lays bare that illusion. 1 But the term has expanded and expanded to include any fiction that even mentions the idea of fiction. That can cover a lot of things, starting with the Iliad.2 I d like to go back to the original idea. In my understanding, metafictions tell stories in which the physical medium of the story becomes part of the story. Among contemporary writers of fiction one could mention: my erstwhile colleagues John Barth, Donald Barthelme, and Ray Federman. Others are Borges, Calvino, Nabokov, Umberto Eco, John Fowles, Salman Rushdie, and on and on. Metafiction has become very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scott describes his reaction in terms like panic, frantic anxiety, or paranoid. 3 Like Scott, I too feel dizzy and uncertain and delighted at this toying with levels of reality. But why panic ? Why anxiety ? A cute, short example of metafilm comes in the Marx Brothers Horse Feathers. Groucho turns to the camera, that is, the audience us and comments on the movie he is in: I ve gotta stay here, but there s no reason you folks shouldn t go out in the lobby till this thing blows over. You can create such an exotic effect even with criticism. One of my favorites in the world of metafiction occurs in a comical book by Charles Simmons called Powdered Eggs. The independent variable was the environment that the rats were placed into. Also the ambience of the cages were also altered for the outcome of the experiment. These changes were crucial to the experiment because it symbolizes the different atmospheres a child can grow up in and how the presence of or lack of stimulating objects can affect the child s brain development. The dependent variable which is what was measure was amount of cell growth in the brain of the rats as well as the levels of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase which is located in the brain. This is able to speed up transmission of impulses through brain cells which means that the more of this enzyme found, the more advanced brain function the rat has. • 5. Instructional Technology As A Problem Solving Tool For... Blended learning has been a popular topic in education over the past decade. With the rapid advancement of technology in recent years and the ever increasing demands on teaching staff, there is a scramble to find the golden goose the key to harmonizing technology and education in order to reach more students and ease the burden of teachers. It becomes more than just an issue of getting technology into the classroom because hundreds of thousands of classrooms already have technology capabilities. It becomes an issue of how to train teachers to use instructional technology and truly integrate it into curriculum. It becomes an issue of how to make technology a problem solving tool for students of all ages and learning styles. Some researchers believe blended learning to be the golden goose for education which raises even more issues and many questions. What instructional technologies can be useful in K 12 subjects? How can instructional technology be used in college and professional development for adults? Is blended learning the future of education? Can blended learning influence various learning styles and create a deeper knowledge base? What professional development programs can we offer to ensure that future teachers are prepared to operate technology in the classroom? The purpose of this paper is to examine the aspects of blended learning and how instructional technologies can facilitate lessons across many subjects and age groups. Blended learning is ... • 6. Keyence Vhx-5000 Week 3 Problem Analysis Paper The digital microscope Keyence VHX 5000 is a method, which is easy to handle and supports research with high resolution images and the calculation of 3D surface models. Several functions make it easy and quick to work with: The 3D function also allows clear 2D images of a rough surface, because all levels are focused automatically and a sharp image of all levels will be created. This function makes it easy to analyse deep cuts, which can be only partially focused in light microscopy or electron microscopy. To calculate a 3D surface model the lower and upper border of the depth of interest has to be determined, by focusing on these levels. Between these borders a level difference of five microns were chosen. In other words, after every scan the lens moves five microns from the sample away. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To avoid steps between the different levels, the edges will be rounded. Therefore a minimal resolution of five microns is valid for the cut mark measurements, although the software allows measurements till to decimals because of its logarithm to calculate the surface. Higher resolutions till one micrometre are also possible, but the number of scanned levels is restricted. Therefore it is possible to analyse fine cut marks in a higher resolution, but in this case, cuts were up to 1 mm deep and a smaller resolution is sufficient. Using this resolution, the ends of cuts, which are very flat, were excluded because their size is approximately under 15 microns and therefore inaccuracies in measurement increase, which might influence the ... Starbucks Organic Growth Essay In the United States, an organic growth might be the only choice that Starbucks could make as a start up domestic company that introduced a relatively new value proposition of café: providing the highest quality coffee in a comfortable third place setting. Starbucks had to pioneer its market in the United States, so its mission was letting customers know Starbucks brand, forming a good brand image, developing new product lines, and organizing supply chains. Nothing might be happened without an organic growth that seeks customer base expansion and brand development. Additionally, according to Exhibit 4, Starbucks was a small company until late 1980s in terms of a financial circumstance. Starbucks may not able to do an aggressive acquisition. An organic growth was the only way that Starbucks can choose as a relatively new, small company. According to Exhibit 5, Starbucks entry into Japan in 1996 was the first time that Starbucks opened its store outside of North America. Until 1995, Starbucks was mostly relied on North American market, which is its home market. Since Starbucks did not have international experience, its entry into Japan was a right choice. • 8. Frame Narrative In Beowulf Early English literature proceeds from orally transmitted storytelling, relying on the construction of an epic past to develop a sense of patriotism within the country. As written culture becomes more prevalent, however, this genre s timeless attribute diminishes due an increase in recorded history which gradually turns literature s focus from mystical origins to a concrete present. Frame narrative, or stories within a story, exist prevalently within the epic genre, but persist throughout this transition, generally preserving structure, but mutating in function. Although early literature forms like the epic employ frame narratives to convey their grandiose style, the transition from historical epics to satirical poetry aligns with frame narrative s transition as an element of style to one of theme. In British oral tradition, storytelling mainly serves to instill patriotic zeal within citizens. The advent of literacy results in the transcription of these stories, which predominantly take the form of the epic: an origin story in which an epic hero displays heroic acts in a setting with few temporal cues, disconnecting the story from any specific point in history. Beowulf, one such epic, exhibits these properties, with events transpiring without indication of the relative passage of time. One literary device which lends itself to the manifestation of this quality, the frame narrative, muddles the reader s perspective of time by constantly by jumping between events in the main ... • 9. Pride And Prejudice, By Chinua Achebe, And Jane Austen All three writers, Julie Otsuka, Chinua Achebe, and Jane Austen apply the aspect of morality to their novels. They do so through aspects of money or marriage such as in Pride and Prejudice as well as in No Longer at Ease. The authors are able to persuade the reader into thinking not only about what the character believes is right or wrong, but also to think about whom morality and immorality is defined by. In these three novels, Pride and Prejudice as well as in No Longer at Ease and When the Emperor was Divine, ethics is not always defined by the main character but by the society that the character lives in. The challenges faces while dealing with these ethical ideas is something each character struggles with and is determined to overcome. Pride and Prejudice raises important moral issues centered on the idea of marriage and specifically how important the role of money can influence the moral actions of people. Jane Austen revealing to us the importance of money in marriage and then leaving it to the readers to decide for themselves what is moral and what is immoral; specifically, the scene where the main character Elizabeth s sister mentions that Darcy, whom is in love with Elizabeth, pays for the marriage of Lydia and Mr. Wickham. • 13. Becoming A Good Writer To me, the best writing is when you can t put the book down and want to keep reading more and more. It is when you can make a personal connection to whatever the characters are going through in their life. To make a good piece of writing you have to have many things, but most importantly you should have good vocabulary, punctuation, and sentence fluency so that it is easy to follow. I know that writing will always be an important thing in my life. I m taking Foundations of Writing to prepare myself for college and to learn how to become a better writer. I will use what I learned in this class while I am writing college papers or even for a future job. When I am given an assignment, the first thing I do is think about how I am going to write it. Then I begin writing down my thoughts until I can t think of anything else to add. When I have no new ideas I start to get bored and then I begin to procrastinate. Procrastinating is one of my biggest weaknesses. I always wait until just a few days before the paper is due to really start working on it hard. Another weakness of mine is that it s hard for me to put my thoughts into words and sentences that make sense. Something I have never understood are semicolons. I don t know when I should use them and when I should not. I would say that my biggest strengths are that I always write in complete sentences and use good vocabulary. ... • 14. Essay Comparing Counter Attack and the Soldier Comparing The Soldier and Counter Attack At the beginning of the century two ideas prevailed about what war was like; it was either heroic or mere butchery. These ideas are represented in the 2 poems The Soldier by Rupert Brookes and Counter Attack by Siegfried Sassoon. Rupert Brooke (1887 1915) was an accomplished poet in WW1. Unlike Sassoon, Brooke never fought at the front line, but joined the Mediterranean Navy where he died of a mosquito bite. Rupert Brooke expressed his feelings about war (war being a heroic act) through poems such as The Soldier where he talks about the solemnity of the soldier and represented war as the ultimate sacrifice and honourable act for your country. This sends a message to the reader that generals do not accomplish tasks/objectives. Adding to this, by describing the soldiers as Pallid, unshaved and thirsty tells the reader that they are lacking in, colour, spirit or intensity. This conveys the message that soldiers are not happy or proud to be in the war. On the contrary, Brooke uses personification; gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given which helps to convey the message that he is proud to be in the war. In addition, Counter Attack portrays death to be of mere importance and not elegant dead green clumsy legs . Green and clumsy presents death as not glorious but mere butchery. By Contrast, Rupert Brooke describes his dead body as A richer dust concealed which portrays death as an experience to cherish and not to fear. The mechanical properties of graphene have been investigated using various experimental, theoretical and computational approaches. By experimental based work, Lee et al. [1] estimated the mechanical properties of graphene such as Young s modulus of about 1.0 ± 0.1 TPa and fracture strength of 130 ± 10 GPa. Frank et al. [2] estimated Young s modulus of 0.5 TPa for 2 to 8nm thickness of graphene sheets. Zhang et al. [3] measured Young s modulus of 0.89 TPa for single layer graphene sheet. Besides experimental work, numerous theoretical and computational studies have been carried out to investigate mechanical properties of graphene. By orthogonal tight binding method Zhao et al. [4] estimated Young s modulus of 1.01 ± 0.03 and fracture strength and strain of 107 GPa and 0.20 in zigzag direction and 90 GPa and 0.13 in armchair direction respectively. The rulers of Italian cities even went as far as appointing a salaried chief executive to enforce the laws of no bringing or fetching of any old linen or woolen cloths to Pistoia (Lualdi, Katharine J). Although, the rulers of Italian cities did make a smart move when they banned the right to travel to Pisa or Lucca, because the plague could have easily spread to those individuals who travelled there and back. They also declared the bodies of the dead shall not be removed from the place of death until they have been enclosed in a wooden box, and the lid of planks nailed down so that ... • 19. How The And Start Right From The Beginning Here Essay I m going to try and start right from the beginning here. When we think of data communication nowadays, we think of digital information. We live in a world where technology is so abundant, that we couldn t possibly imagine what life would be like without it. I m not talking about having to write letters, or use the telephone exchange, I m talking about the beginning. Before there was data communication, there was simply communication. So much about our evolution is unknown, that we can t simply piece together the entire history of communication, but we as humans today do have a brief understanding of how our species learnt to communicate, and how this has shaped our world today. One of the first methods of communication (besides verbal) was paintings. Painting (or drawing in general) is one of the earliest methods of communication, and is still very prominent to this day. The act of turning thoughts or ideas into a physical representation develops in humans at a very young age, and is the main form of communication used by babies up until they can speak. In my person opinion, painting isn t a the best form of communication today, as writing is far easier to understand. Painting is useful if you wish to convey your ideas through the use of metaphors, but the practicality of using it today as a direct method of communication is limited. The next big advancement in communication was the development of writing. Writing was developed in two stages. The first forms of writing were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The days of fighting on the playgrounds of which one really came first are over, but the question remains the same. Which came first the chicken or the egg? With a little bit of look into this question I found some exciting information that brings me closer to an answer to this difficult question. The American Journal of Agriculture of Economics has postulated that the egg has arrived first. Within the article they have done some mathematical experiments on this case and have rejected the hypothesis that eggs do not cause chickens but that chickens cause eggs, so plainly stateing that the egg was the first(25). So they concluded that the egg came first. Walter Thurman and Mark Fisher provided this outcome after a series of surveys on chickens and eggs around the agriculture market. A forum at UCLA seems to offer more of an opposing view to this question. Scientifically the idea that the chicken came first is more appealing. They tend to go along with the theory of evolution provided from Darwin. UCLA students hypothesis that since chickens are a bird species and that birds evolved from dinosaurs, the chicken would have to come first on the timeline. I tend to agree Thomas, 3 with this because it would seem awful hard for a chicken to raise it self if it just came from an egg. Also I believe in the theory that the chicken came first because of a more obvious aspect. If you were to look at humans, we also come from an egg, even though it is not quite like the egg chickens come from we come from an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In fact, improvement in the lives of these groups was an unintended side effect of the revolution, not the desired result. In the beginning of the American Revolution, most Native Americans wished to remain neutral but eventually sided with the British in hopes of preventing the American colonists from further appropriating their land. When the American colonist won the American Revolution, the British failed to protect their allies and offered Native American land to America in the Treaty of Paris. Character Development In Macbeth By William Shakespeare There are many constants among great tragedies, internal/external conflict, plot development, a problem, but one of the most important aspects to a tragedy is the development of the main character, typically from better to worse. For a story to develop and become more interesting as it goes, the character s personalities must evolve and develop simultaneously. Without this crucial aspect, readers could not become attached or interested in characters and the issues they face, since they would never change. Macbeths thirst for power grows out of control, he gets himself so deep in a hole of repeated murders, acts of treason, and personal betrayals, that Macbeth becomes resented and vilified by all, regarded as a ruthless tyrant. With the many ruthless acts Macbeth had committed; the killing of his King, the killing of Banquo, as well as the attempted killing of Banquo s son, Fleance, Macbeth finds himself becoming more paranoid of who the next enemy might be. Macbeth orders another senseless act out of paranoia and ruthlessness in Act IV, What, you egg? Young fry of treachery! He has killed me mother. (4.2.94 97) Macbeth had hired murderers to kill the family of Macduff, someone he fears may be plotting to resist him as king. By this point in the play, Macbeth had become a tyrant, who, in trying to kill him resisters, ended up created more of them. In the beginning, one can identify that the novel is written in first person and feel safe to assume that the writer is writing a memoir based off of his personal experience of the Uprising from Tuesday, August 1, 1944 [to]...the morning of October 2, 1944 . Instead of giving readers a synopsis of the event, Białoszewski recounts his memories of the five month period as a civilian and takes accounts of the Uprising s aftermath up until he sees what remained of Warsaw in February 1945. With Soviet armies on the fringes of Warsaw, the Polish capital dismayed Nazi occupation. Białoszewski began to write during the German occupation. A Memoir of the Warsaw Uprising offers an eye to maintaining interpretation of the Uprising and also offers readers his self revelations where he seeks clues to his own personality and career at the time he wrote the memoir. Białoszewski is a true revisionist in his presentation of the Warsaw Uprising and in his approach to the memoir category of artistic composition. Memory can be a useful historical device because memory gives history an emotional meaning and a flow. Memory can be unbeneficial because as time goes on, details are lost. Overall, the warning labels increased enjoyment of the program containing profanity among college students. Bleeping had no effect on either program liking or perceptions of realism; however, bleeping decreased perceptions of the program s offensiveness, and increased viewers perceptions of profanity frequently estimates. Therefore, although program ratings have allowed viewers greater opportunity to filter their viewing, lowered norms of self censorship have perhaps broadened the material available to them. These less restrictive norms, on one hand, and more frequent labeling of material, on the other, lead us to ask how labels and self censoring affect the enjoyment and perceptions of program content by viewers. Therefore, the current study uses an experimental design to examine the effects of program labels and self censoring on the perceptions and enjoyment of viewers. First, we will discuss the possible effects of warnings and self censoring (bleeping) on viewers enjoyment and perceptions of the content. Next, we will consider possible individual differences in viewers responses to the manipulations. The Runaway was painted during 1958 and measures 35 x 33 . This amazing piece of work can currently be found in the Norman Rockwell Museum in his collection of artworks. This museum is located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Normal Rockwell used state trooper Richard J. Clemens Jr. to model as the state trooper in the painting and used eight year old Ed Locke to pose as the boy. The painting was created at the Howard Johnson s Restaurant. The Runaway s scene shows a little boy sitting at a counter. He looks to be the subject of the artwork. He looks like he may be around the age of eight and has short, almost buzzed cut, blonde hair. This little boy is wearing a yellow shirt, blue jeans, and a brown belt. His shirt is tucked in and he has what looks like a jacket in his lap. • 29. Identification Szymborska The endless altering matters of society remain controversial among its many spectators; nevertheless, Wislawa Szymborska views these matters as vacuous dictations. Szymborska confronts her perspective of society through her recurrent theme of mockery and wit, in which cultivates a comical aspect of her poetry. The comical aspects throughout some of Szymborska s poetry exploits the changing standards of society, the dictation that society places on an individual, the false sense of comfort that is provided by society, and the true state of oblivion that society resides in. This scrutinization of society remains within an underlying tone of ridicule and aversion, which is conveyed through Szymborska s a vast amount of devices, such as juxtaposition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This state of denial can be prominently depicted within Szymborska s poem, Identification. The poem presents a chronological experience of a woman s developing emotions as she rejects the fact that her husband had past away. The false sense of security resides within this poem, as the repetition of it s good you came, presumably attempts to formulate a positive motif throughout the morbid poem(1, 17, 23). The comfort of others conceals the genuine emotion of loneliness, as the death of a loved one creates a false sense of reality; therefore, the constant reminder that someone else was with the recipient of the bad news, reminds them that they are not completely alone in the world. Furthermore, the sense of denial is continued through the hope of objects just being ordinary, such as, a scrap of shirt, a watch, [and] a wedding ring. Szymborska uses this asyndeton in order to create a sense of irony, as the objects become more specific as the names on that ring (10); nevertheless, this creates a false sense of comfort for the aspect that anyone could own these objects, in which portrays the yearning for a confirmation that the speaker s loved one was not affiliated with this tragedy. Szymborska s use of the euphemism, rubber sleeping bag, facilitates the endeavor to maintain the attempted positive motif, despite the rubber sleeping bag referring to a body bag (24). The body bag provides a false sense of a lighthearted connotation of a sleeping bag to being the cruel reality of death. Throughout Identification, Szymborska mocks the oblivion and denial of the woman despite the morbid context of the poem. Through this method Szymborska further implies that one should face reality. Precisely as society should not be dictated without truly analyzing the true intention of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our conversations prompted some other questions about the background knowledge they had on sexual assault, and how the University talked about it versus how their prior schools had discussed the subject. It was interesting to get a male point of view on the topic because I, along with a lot of other women on campus, feel like they don t have to deal with the topic of sexual assault as much as we do. Especially with the required attendance of lectures and educationals on the subject for both the University and the Greek Life programs. I felt frustrated at times that we all wanted more information about the sexual assaults that have occurred on campus, but we obviously didn t want to information about the victim to become public knowledge as it is their private business. I would agree with a majority of the responses given to the questions, especially the discussion of the My Cup is Not My Consent campaign. As well intentioned as it was, that campaign is more a joke now, and we don t want to the University of Iowa to be unintentionally promoting rape jokes. I also think that the men on campus should be required to attend just as many sexual assault seminars as the women do. This issue should be just as much theirs as ours. Perhaps if everyone had a better understanding what to look for in potential sexual assault situations, then there would be less sexual assaults occurring on campus. ... • 31. Summary Of The Veldt By Ray Bradbury Bradbury s Words to You Desmond Tutu, a South African leader once said, You do not choose your family. They are God s gift to you, as you are to them. In the short story The Veldt , Ray Bradbury conveys the idea that no material object that has ever been crafted, is more valuable than your family because your family provides you with vital growth. He does this by telling the tragic tale of parents Lydia and George who are killed by their spoiled and technology obsessed children, Wendy and Peter. Through foreshadow, symbolism and imagery, Bradbury believes that kids need to respect their parents, otherwise there will be grave consequences. Bradbury uses the term The Happy House in an ironic manner to foreshadow the very unhappy demise of the Hadley family. The Hadley s home consists of an abundance of high technological machines to do all the work around the house for them, called the Happylife Home . The description of the house provides the reader with an understanding that the family is very lazy for having machines doing all the work for them as they are described as ... the house that bathed and fed them and was good to them . However, despite the comforts this home brings, the Hadley parents become more and more worried with the machines throughout the story. The beginning of the story foreshadows this: George, I wish you d look at the nursery. What s wrong with it? I don t know. I just want you to look at it, is all, or call a psychologist in to look at it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
