Welcome To Nightvale Poem Analysis
A common theme in both Welcome to Nightvale and War of the Worlds is that original assumptions
can misleading. War of the Worlds utilises sentence structure to bring the concept that experiencing
death and horror will increase the appreciation of life to the forefront of the reader s mind.
Contrastingly the serious elements of death and horror are masked under the aural techniques of
Welcome to Nightvale through music. The audience expectations of Welcome to Nightvale are
inverted through the weather section in Welcome to Nightvale which is non diegetic sound because it
is a song or instrumental item that alludes to the darker elements of the episode. These elements are
contained within the lyrics or tone of the music to explain more about ... Show more content on

Similarly, War of the Worlds uses scientific language, actual real places and media extracts to develop
the reader s connection to the real world and the novel. The two texts then hold greater influence over
the reader s emotions and understandings of the world around them which in turn develop contrasting
beliefs about the nature of horror and death. However Welcome to Nightvale s narrative realism which
influences an audience s reactions to horror and fear is lessened through the use of Absurdism.
Absurdist imagery such as in episode 2 GLOW CLOUD a lion, like the kind you see on the sun baked
plains of Africa or a pee stained enclosure at a local zoo, fell on top of the White Sand Ice Cream Shop
allows the reader to separate themselves from the horror within an episode and instead connect with
the philosophical intentions of Finke and Cranor, which is that sometimes you go through things that
seem huge at the time as a mysterious glowing cloud devouring your entire community. While they re
happening they feel like the only thing that matters, and you can hardly imagine that there s the world
out there that can have anything going on. Both texts envelop narrative structure to draw parallelisms
between reality and fiction which deepen the reader s emotional connection but the

The Evolution Of Management Theory
Introduction
Detailed Summary
Management theory constantly evolves when there are new ideas or when there is and intention of
attempts of transforming the theory. Hence this theory can also be called as the condensed theory To
know the history of the management theory is the fundamental task (Sarshar, 2002).
The evolution of management began after the industrial revolution had occurred in Europe and
America, which was in the end of the 19th century. During the evolution of the management theory,
there were many major changes happening, like economic, cultural and technical. The start of the
evolution of the management theory was when there was an introduction to the steam power. That was
the time when the industries were built with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientific management theory
The techniques of the scientific management theory were defined by Frederick W. Taylor. F W Taylor
was a manufacturing manager, but he eventually became a consultant. He introduced four principles
Principle 1: Study the way workers perform their tasks, gather all the informal jobs, knowledge that
worker possess, and experiment with ways of improving how tasks are performed.
Principle 2: Codify the new methods of performing tasks into written rules and standard operating
procedures.
Principle 3: Carefully select workers who possess skills and abilities that match the needs of the task
and train them to perform according to the established rules and procedures.
Principle 4: Establish a fair or acceptable level of performance for a tasks, and then develop a pay
system that rewards performance about the acceptable level (Jones and George, 2003).
In the 1900 s these principles were known nationally and were applied in many organisations. In some
organisations the managers choose to follow only some of the principles, which led to some problems.
After applying the principles the efficiency of the organisation increased, but instead of sharing the
profit with the workers as specified by Taylor, the managers expected the workers to work for more
hours for that same wages. After a while the workers realised that the increase in the efficiency in the

Imagery And Diction In Porphyria s Lover By Robert Browning
Porphyria s Lover by Robert Browning creates precise imagery and diction that suggests the
emotional development throughout the poem. As the narrative progresses, the reader recognizes that
the speaker s lover, Porphyria, visits him on a stormy night; Once the speaker realizes how much
Porphyria loves him he decides to capture the moment by murdering her. Although the speaker
discusses the events steadily, the descriptive language used expresses the diverse emotions the speaker
s experienced. The speaker begins by describing a stormy scene stating, The rain set early in tonight, /
The sullen wind was soon awake, / It tore the elm tops down for spite (1 3). On this rainy night the
wind is personified by the words sullen and spite giving

Corruption and Law Enforcement
Corruption has always been a danger to law enforcement, just as it has been a danger to all of mankind
since the beginning of time. Since the very first police agency was formed in the 1800s, corruption has
been widespread. The 19th century was an era in which politics played a very large role in police
forces. Various political parties essentially had some police departments in their pockets, and as long
as officers served to further those political parties agendas, the officers continued employment was
guaranteed. Since politicians have not always been known for being straight laced, one can easily see
how corruption within police departments became prevalent. Since officers were not serving the
people, but rather the political elite, their motives were constantly in question. It was not long before
politicians began employing police officers to overlook and even protect their illicit activities.
Through this practice, officers began to see the potential monetary and political benefits of allowing
and participating in certain illegal actions. Even after the establishment of countermeasures such as
police commissions, civil service exams, and legislative changes, corruption remained rampant. This
corruption was perhaps best exemplified by none other than the actions of many officers within the
Rampart Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The Beginning
It all began within the Rampart Division s Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums unit, better

Trade Between The Maya And Aztec People
When in fact chocolate hails from Mexico and cacao was actually used as currency between the Maya
and Aztec people (Dyke, n.d.). It was also used for various medicinal purposes, from stomach
ailments, fever to infections (Dyke, n.d.). The piñata is something else we associate with Mexico. It
actually has a long history of how it came about to what we think of today. Marco Polo, while in
China witnessed a celebration where a clay bull filled with seeds was hit with a stick ( Mexican Piñata
, n.d.). He then brought this idea back with him to Italy ( Mexican Piñata , n.d.). This idea of clay pots
made to be broken for celebrations spread to other countries ( Mexican Piñata , n.d.). It wasn t until
sometime in the 1970 s where the piñata was changed to a papier mâché and filled with candies for
children s birthdays ( Mexican Piñata , n.d.). Another thing that comes from Mexico is tequila, which
is an alcohol that is made from the agave cactus (Zimmermann, 2010). All the tequila in the world is
made in Mexico, no other country can produce and call it tequila. This is because in 1978, the
Appellation of Origin Tequila which regulates and limits where tequila can be made ( The World of
Tequila , n.d.). Over 60 million gallons of tequila is produced in Mexico annually ( The World of
Tequila , n.d.). Mexico is also known for its candy which can have what most would consider odd
flavors (corn and chili pepper for instance). Though candy lovers would surely find some sort

Allusion To The River Of Lethe Literary Devices
The way that this poem is a Shakespearean sonnet, is in the way that it has 14 lines, there s iambic
pentameter, and follows the rhyme scheme of abab cdcd efef gg. There are several literary devices in
the poem above. There s an allusion to the River of Lethe, which is a river in Greek mythology,
indicating that if one drinks from it, would cause forgetfulness. The memories that the speaker has
about her lover, would be gone and she would finally forget him. But yet there seems to be this irony,
as the speaker claims she will forget him, but yet finds herself reflecting on these memories.
Moreover, there s another allusion and that is time. Although, its in the form of a metaphor the speaker
thought she had forever with this guy. But comes

Analysis Of Thomas Hobbes s Leviathan
Laviathan, Thomas Hobbes most important work and one of the most substantial philosophical texts
of the Seventeenth century, was written largely as a response to the political violence and turmoil of
England s civil wars. In Leviathan, Hobbes, using science and reason as a foundation, attempts to
create a concrete and methodological solution for peace and political stability. In the context of a
historically violent and fear stricken period in which Leviathan was written, it is logical that Hobbes
would claim man s principal motivation to maintain peace and avoid war is due to a fear of death,
therefore forcing man to seek the preservation of life. Hobbes central idea in Leviathan centers on the
necessity for absolute sovereignty and a commonwealth through covenant (social contract). For
Hobbes, past democratic governments only encouraged factionalism and internal conflict within the
state. The lack of centralized power served only to distract these governments from pressing issues
and exterior threats, thus Hobbes believed the presence of a strong central power such as an absolute
sovereign would preserve peace. Hobbes presents the essential idea of absolute sovereignty and
commonwealth through the metaphor of the Leviathan. The leviathan serves as a symbol for the state.
It is described, as a creature whose body is made up of all of the bodies of its citizens while the head
of the Leviathan is the sovereign. The leviathan is

How Did The Enlightenment Contribute To The American...
How did the Enlightenment contribute to the American Revolution? Well before I answer that
question, you need to know about the Enlightenment. During the Enlightenment, which took place in
the 18th century, philosophers looked for natural laws that governed society and politics. The
Enlightenment began in Europe as many citizens started to question their government and the way it
ran. Some important philosophers during the Enlightenment were John Locke, he believed that people
should be able to revolt where their government was not protecting the natural rights of the people. He
also believed in natural rights such as the right to life, the right to be free, and the right to own
property. Another important philosopher was Voltaire , who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Several people believed that there were better ways to rule over a country. For example, Thomas
Hobbes thought that people were born selfish and couldn t handle making their own decisions so they
needed a stronger government; like an absolute monarchy. However, other Enlightenment thinkers
believed the opposite. This made people question the way their government ran and people believed
they deserved more rights. In the end, we gained a democracy. We created the Declaration of
Independence, US Bill of Rights, The US Constitution and may more important documents. Rousseau
helped form the ideas behind some of these important documents. He wrote the Social Contract which
says that the government should rule according to the will of the people. Adam Smith also said that
governments should not interfere with a free market economy. John Locke also believed that people
should be able to rebel against their government if it was not protecting the natural rights of the
people. Other philosophers contributed to the making of the government as well. Some including
Montesquieu and Voltaire. That is how the American government was impacted by the

Identity And Discrimination In Rudali
Review a work of fiction that helped/challenged/encouraged you to reflect on questions of identity and
discrimination . The work of fiction that challenged and encouraged my perceptions on identity and
discrimination is a piece of short fiction called Rudali , written in Bengali by Mahasweta Devi and
translated to English by Anjum Katyal. This text serves as an epitome of class, caste and gender
subalternity in the historic context of brahmanical patriarchy. The protagonist individualises the
discrimination exerted on low caste communities via the triple oppression faced by them under these
structures of society (i.e caste, class and gender) and tries to subvert these hegemonic structures from
within. The title of the book, Rudali ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although in many ways this text can be seen as a radical feminist text, but Devi dismisses the idea as
she is not a feminist. She feels that it is a mere coincidence that some professions are gendered and
doesn t regard women as a separate entity but treats their oppression as linked to a wider oppressive
structure controlled by caste. She thinks that to ignore the latter in the shadow of the former, is a
denial of history . But Usha Ganguli in her introductory text Metamorphosis of Rudali presents a
different view and says that in many ways this could be read as an enabling feminist text with the
empowerement of Sanichri, the bonding between the two characters, the importance given to
household chores, the common experiences of discrimination of women along class lines and the rare
sensitivity expressed by the author towards women in general. Through this novella, Devi discusses
and rethinks questions of class, caste and gender and how such structures affect women by giving a
powerful voice to the gendered subaltern and thus rescuing them from the dark recesses of third world

is full of amazing facts and knowledge that pertain to , what geography is, how it effected past
societies, how it will affect future societies, and how geography is a crucial part in our society. In the
following summarization of Why Geography Matters , i will explain three main points that embody
what this book is about, and what it tries to teach. The first main point that I want to talk about is the
author giving the reader an insight on how the rth is always changing. He starts off by talking about
ways that show the change in Earth. Ome ways that he explains are thing such as maps and charts. He
then explains how the environment is constantly changing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If that is their choice to be a passive or authoritative leader, it was not to affective for me. Would have
it been great to work at a place with Ophra. I do see her being a leader that I would like to have

textbook, chapter 2 when discussing about job performances and the presentation about work ethics. It
all give the impression to stem from behavior and motivation. I am not sure of the whole story with
Cpt. William. But I am sure he came from a well rounded situation that felt the need to give back. As I
am sure Ophra feels that way as well. These are leaders that I would like to emulate, ones that give

2. The Human Resource Framework
The human resource deals with people s views as it is the heart of any organization system and it gives

thing on human resource management is to support and liberation. The HR administrator listens well
and imparts individual warmth and honesty. The people engages individuals through support and
actions to pick up the assets individuals need to carry out work well. HR supervisors go up against
when proper yet attempt to do as such in a friendly atmosphere.
 Organization is there to serve the people or human needs, rather than the human existing for
organizational needs.
 People and organization both are important to each other. Because organization needs power, talent
and ideas to implement and more over people need basic needs like shelter, food and clothes the
organization provide these all in the type of salary and opportunities too full their dreams.
 When there is a misunderstanding between the individual and organization both will suffer and

Alexander III used Nationalism to divide the people of Russia, even though his intention was to unify
the people. Alexander III came to power after his father, Alexander II, was assassinated. He quickly
came to power and wanted to quickly set reform in Russia, since it is believed that his father s reforms
caused his assassination(Axelrod,1994). When he put his reforms into place, he developed a concept
of extreme Russian nationalism called Russification. He used Russification to develop a purely
Russian nation. Alexander III used Russification to get rid of any nationality in Russia that is not
Russian or any person in Russia that does not support his reforms. Along with secular reform,
religious toleration was sacrificed during this period. Russia s Jews, perennial targets, were persecuted
more harshly than ever, as were Russo Germans, Poles, and Finns, whose crime was their failure to
have been born 100 percent Russian (1994). Alexander III started to become extremely harsh in
getting rid of people that are not purely Russian, even though they did not have a choice to be 100
percent Russian or not. In doing this, he made Russia a uniform nation with no diversity, dividing the
people who were 100 percent Russian from the people who are not Russian. By using Russification,
Alexander III actually divided the nation of Russia, even though his intentions

Broadcasting Corporation s Decision On Broadcast Jerry...
Introduction What I intend to write about
In this report, I will be assessing the British Broadcasting Corporation s decision to broadcast Jerry
Springer: The Opera back on 8th January 2005. In order to judge the decision, I will be looking at the
reasons why the BBC made the decision to air it in 2005. I will be comparing the number of people
who complained to the BBC to the total amount of people who watched the broadcast using viewing
figures and charts. In addition, I will also look at the viewpoints of the Christian Voice Campaign who
argued against the opera. Finally, I will also be using my knowledge of Utilitarianism and Kantianism
while referencing the viewing figures and the BBC s general duty to the public to establish my ...

BBC s arguments for their decision on televising Jerry Springer: The Opera
According to figures from BBC News, over 1.7 million people tuned in to watch the opera. The report
continues to state that there were 317 phone calls made to the BBC since the transmission and a mass
of them were very supportive. [3] However, there was an overall high figure of 63,000 complaints
about the opera and it became the most criticised television programme ever. [4] (Inglis, Media Ethics.
2014 pers. comm., 8th December) Despite the number of complaints, the BBC defended their decision
on broadcasting the opera through a corporation spokesman. The spokesman said that the BBC
conformed to their choice of televising the contentious opera and that it endures to be shown to
congested audiences in London s theatres. [5] This statement shows that there were people interested
in the opera by the time the BBC broadcasted it. The spokesman continues by saying that the
corporation were proud to see that a broad range of crowds were able to witness a vital modern
musical work. [6] (Created with Microsoft Works Spreadsheet.) BBC News. 2005. Springer opera

Government could exist only in name under such circumstances. (Reynolds, 98 U.S. 145,167). The
Reynolds court also placed a grave emphasis on a quote Thomas Jefferson wrote, [b]elieving with you

government reach actions only, and not opinions (1671). The enforced the criminal prosecution
against Reynolds because they believed they could regulate action even if they could not interfere with

important state interest in universal education but the law to compel students to go to school infringed

We have never held that an individual s religious beliefs excuse him from compliance with an

Strategies For Prenatal Development
Asherin, Nichole WA1, PSY102 Development is a lifelong process consisting of four main stages in
which life goes through. Each stage of life has many ways of benefiting that particular time that an
individual is developing in. These show ways that individuals can determine for themselves what is
and is not beneficial to his/her development. These recommended strategies will psychologically
benefit the well being and growth of an individual from prenatal development through adulthood.
Prenatal development is the first stage that any individual being goes through. This stage is from
conception to birth. Due to mothers carrying the embryo, teratogens can be affected in this stage. The
book entails that individuals should avoid Teratogens because ... Show more content on

One of the first developments in this stage is puberty, so the first strategy for this period is being
aware of when an individual is to begin puberty. This is important because it is likely that a young
woman will start developing before a young man. This may cause bullying and social confusion. The
book says that women tend to develop breasts by the age of ten, as well as having the first menstrual
period by the age of twelve and a half. While young men have their peak height spurt at age fourteen
and can start growing facial hair by age sixteen (Hockenbury et.al, 2016). Another important part of
the adolescent time period is social development. This is a time where the individual finds their
identity and explores new opportunities. The strategy to take home with this new development is
understanding that part of this stage will include peer relationships just as much as parental
relationships. Also, keeping in mind that young adults will experiment with new relationships. The
book says that parent adolescent relationships tend to be positive, as romantic and sexual relationships
also become increasingly important throughout the adolescent year (Hockenbury et.al, 2016). All of
these new experiments are beneficial to the growth of the adolescent

Reflective Beliefs Of AquinasTeaching On The Eucharist
Aquinas teaching on the Eucharist has offered many new and distinctive insights to me. One of these
insights is when Aquinas asks the question whether one should distinguish the two ways of eating
Christ s body. The two ways are spiritually and sacramentally. His opponents argue there is no need to
and I thought the same as well, because eating the bread and drinking the wine would encompass both.
However, after reading Aquinas I answer , it became clear to me that there is a twofold division
between the sacrament itself and the effect of it. An example my professor gave is if a mouse ate some
bread and wine. The mouse is not mindful and because of that, it only participated in the physical
aspect of the Eucharist, but not with its effect. You must be mindful to appreciate the symbols of bread
and wine or there will be more harm than good if you are not attentive of what God is doing. A quote
from Aquinas that helped me understand this better is when he says, but the sacramental eating that
does not secure the effect is contrasted with spiritual eating, just as the imperfect, which does not
attain perfection of its species, is contrasted with the perfect (ST 3.80.1). What he means by this is that
just by merely participating in the sacrament alone without the effect is like doing something in an
imperfect way. The perfect way of doing this is by complete eating, which is receiving both the visible
and invisible effects. Aquinas also offers some strong arguments against

bears the argument that is it not easy being common is it rather difficult to be unique and emerge from
the crowd. In spite of this, people should love themselves for who they are and not let the judgment of
others define who they are. Kermit s aphorism relates to my life, as there have been several instances
in which I have contemplated to myself, What makes me unique? With so many people in this world,
what sets me apart from everybody else? Throughout these past years, I have managed to proudly
answer these questions myself. I am

Giant Steppes Toward Freedom by Ancestors
It is difficult for many Americans today to imagine taking everything they own and moving to a new
country because of religious and political freedoms. With these freedoms taken so much for granted,
we rarely think of the steps taken by our ancestors to gain that liberty. When looking at attempts in
history to gain freedom, it is usual to look to the founding fathers of America and their sacrifices.
However, other groups of people have strived for the same thing, one such group being the people of
the divided German states shortly after the Seven Year s War. Through several generations of
Germans, these people moved across country, across continent, and eventually even across the ocean
to America in order to gain that much desired freedom. In about 1763, the Germans were experiencing
many problems. With the seven years war just behind them, much of the land had been destroyed.
Crops were trampled, and properties were decimated, making the living conditions in Germany very
difficult. On top of that, the war had left the political system in a state of chaos. At that time, Germany
was not together as a nation but was rather divided into forty two different states. Unified Germany as
we know it today did not come about until much later, in about 1872. During this time minority
religions struggled in the German states. Evangelical Christians such as Baptists were not looked well
upon, as well as Mennonites who were pacifists and did not believe in serving in the military.

Plato s System Of Metaphysics
Adrian Farrales
Introduction to Philosophy
Metaphysics
11/6/14
Plato s system of metaphysics revolves around the concept of Eidos, or forms. A form is the perfect
and truest instance of a particular idea. In the world, we find particular instances of each form. For
example, a certain pen is a particular instance of the form of pen. Every single pen in the world
contributes to the form of pen. This contribution of particulars to the forms is called mathexis in
Greek, or simply, participation. The participation of all particulars help to define and derive common
characteristics of the form. Using the pen example, all pens function as a writing utensil, usually
contain some form of ink, and generally are cylindrical. Every pen is somewhat imperfect and has
flaws of some sort. Regarding ontology, these forms are the highest level of reality and the purest form
of existence, while the particulars are imperfect and cheap imitations. Regarding our senses, Plato
believed that the world we live in, that is the world of particulars, is an illusion because the most real
world would be the world of the forms. Thus our senses are not accurate and our sense perceptions are
merely copies of the forms. Plato exemplifies this in the allegory of the cave, portraying a false sense
of reality. Plato believed that these forms are innate to human beings, as we were born with them. By
doing philosophy, we undergo a process of recollection of these forms, ultimately

Multiple Extended Metaphors
The passage explains the thought process throughout an interrogation of the person that is suspected of
in the situation; then it goes on to explain the entire act of interrogation as a whole with the
interrogator and suspect. Throughout the passage the author uses multiple extended metaphors to
express the thought process of suspect in an interrogation room. In the passage it states, More to the
point, they like to imagine their suspects imagining a small, open window at the top of the long wall.
The open window is the escape hatch, the Out. The author uses the window to symbolize a suspect
trying to find an escape route that tends to be filled with lies to get out of any type of punishment of
the crime. This is directed to those that lack knowledge on the subject of things in relation to
interrogations; although, the audience can be generally anyone because the passage is made to widely

Personal Statement On Personal Responsibility
Personal responsibility is holding you accountable for all your actions and decisions. Being personally
responsible means you take ownership of what you do in and with your life. This means from the time
you wake up until you go to bed at night, your life is your responsibility and yours alone. Your values,
morals, and beliefs are all contributing factors in how you view being personally responsible. If you
have been raised and taught to believe that you should consider your actions at all times, then
responsibility becomes second nature to you . For some it may be a little more difficult to grasp this
concept. What we need to remember is that personal responsibility is important in every aspect of life .
In college one has to take personal responsibility very seriously. I began my college education in my
early thirties. I had been out of school for quite some time and knew that I faced a real challenge. I had
to purpose in my mind that I was going to do whatever it took to reach my academic goals. Starting
out I faced several disadvantages , from lack of financial aid, to self doubt. I had to take charge of
what was my dream and find a way to make it happen. I went to the college after obtaining my GED
and just laid it all out on the line. Once I received my first class schedule I felt I was on my way. That
very first class night I had an eye opening moment. I realized that this was going to take a lot of hard
work and determination. I found out quickly that not everyone

The Applicability Of The Ib Risk Assessment Tool In Iran...
ICS is the first longitudinal population based study, primarily designed to develop a CVD risk
assessment tool (PARS) in Iran and EMR. ICS is being organized in three geographic areas with a
large urban and rural population [14]. We developed the PARS as a new CVD risk prediction tool in
Iran, in preparation for a major change in national policy by identifying the patients at high risk of
CVD.
Although Framingham prediction algorithms have been comprehensively used in the United States
and other countries [29 31], they consist of white middleclass individuals; therefore, there are
concerns about the generalization of their findings to other populations and societies particularly in
low and middle income countries[14]. The limitations for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By calculating total CV risk, including the 10 year risk of fatal or non fatal myocardial infarction,
unstable angina, sudden cardiac death, and fatal or non fatal stroke, we anticipate to provide a better
risk estimate. Accordingly, WHO and current stress practice guidelines prefer to consider the total risk
in making decisions about treatment [1, 26, 41, 42].
Based on a large Iranian representative population, we created a PARS charts. The PARS charts are
user friendly and color coded. Furthermore, using a 6 color gradient from brown as the highest risk to
green as the lowest probability of CVD event help not only the Physicians but also the individuals to
see their position on the chart [43].
It is known that diabetes is positively associated with the CVD risk. One of the limitations of the
Framingham risk score is the small number of diabetic people in a cohort of 5573 individuals (4%)
and also the diabetes definition was based on a random blood glucose concentration 9 mmol/L or the
use of anti glycemic treatment. Hence, the accuracy of the Framingham risk score for CV risk
assessment in diabetic patients has been addressed in previous studies [44]. The most widely used risk
score in the European countries, SCORE [6], also lacks the risk prediction power of diabetes because

Key Ideas Of The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a extended intellectual, philosophical, cultural, and social movement that
spread throughout England, France, Germany, and other parts of Europe during the 17th century. The
Enlightenment supported the idea that science and logic could make society better. Participants in the
movement were mostly educated intellectuals and philosophers. Before the Enlightenment, Europe
was in a time period called the Scientific Revolution. The Scientific Revolution was a time when
people like Nicolaus Copernicus began to question the church doctrine. When man developed the
Questioning Spirit , Europe began to discuss the key ideas of the Enlightenment: the social, political,
and economical aspects of life. This was the beginning of the Enlightenment.
First and foremost, the age of Enlightenment brought upon a great social impact. The Enlightenment
impacted society by introducing the idea that mankind could use reason to discover the laws of the
world and the rights of mankind. These ideas affected all groups of society, from politics to religion. It
also introduced to the world the concept of permissive economics and the benefits of limited
government intervention in the economy. Scholars argued that people become wealthy by making use
of available resources and letting the laws of supply and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Brian s Song Technology And Culture Analysis
Exam #2: Brian s Song, Flow, and Culture In Television: Technology and Cultural Form , Williams
labels flow as the defining characteristic of broadcasting, simultaneously as a technology and as a
cultural form . TV broadcasting slowly expanded its straightforward approach to programming by
developing a planned flow , tying programs into a larger goal of subtly goading audiences to stay
tuned for other (sometimes related, sometimes not) programming. Brian s Song, maybe the most
successful TV movie to come out in 1971 (along with Spielberg s Duel), is a prime example of a TV
network both capitalizing on its existing base and inviting new audiences while at the same time
promoting its own brand (ABC s still fairly new Monday Night Football ... Show more content on

Brian s Song, while meaningful and groundbreaking (in regards to its impact on the future of made for
TV movies), is just another notable side effect of networks acting as their own PR agents. The
audience became so engaged with the film that they were willing to sit through several minutes of
commercials, both MNF related and promoting other ABC programs, interspersed throughout the film
just to see its conclusion. The consensual space wasn t created out of an actual want for positive
representation, but out of necessity. Even in the 70s, it was impossible for a program to be a huge
success with a limited audience. Brian s Song benefitted from its inclusion of female characters
(however one dimensional) not only because they allowed straight male viewers to cry knowing they
were crying over equally straight characters, but because it allowed women who weren t previously
football fans to gain some interest. The family angle is another aspect of the consensual space, as
families in this sense aren t limited by class or race, with black and white families alike being able to
enjoy the film and be the target group for ads displayed for other family oriented shows. In a way,
ABC used Brian s Song and the tragedy that befell Piccolo to

Fruit Fly Research Paper
Three Point Test Cross and Gene Mapping in Drosophila Melanogaster
Many traits incorporated into the design of the Drosophila, commonly known as the fruit fly, make it
an optimal specimen for scientific research. Their short life cycle, averaging between twelve and
fourteen days, and ability to be easily manipulated through controlled mating allows scientist the
opportunity to create large sample sizes with great ease. Although these tiny creatures have been
around since the days of ancient Greece, they were not thrown into the scientific spot light until Dr.
Thomas Hunt Morgan, an embryologist at Columbia University in New York, incorporated them into
his study on sex limited inheritance. By isolating mutant flies and performing test crosses he was able
to determine that genes were in fact located on chromosomes and therefore, create a deeper
understanding of heredity. In 1910 he discovered a white eyed variant that became the fuel behind the
new field of genetics. Throughout the following years, Morgan and his contemporaries established the
foundations of classical genetics, leading to a Nobel Prize for Morgan in 1933.
Linkage, in terms of genetic importance, consists of the capability of genes to be inherited together
when they are located together on a single chromosome. A technique associated with linkage is
genetic mapping. This scientific process has been used to located genes that, when they react together,
can cause medical conditions such as heart disease and

  • 2. Welcome To Nightvale Poem Analysis A common theme in both Welcome to Nightvale and War of the Worlds is that original assumptions can misleading. War of the Worlds utilises sentence structure to bring the concept that experiencing death and horror will increase the appreciation of life to the forefront of the reader s mind. Contrastingly the serious elements of death and horror are masked under the aural techniques of Welcome to Nightvale through music. The audience expectations of Welcome to Nightvale are inverted through the weather section in Welcome to Nightvale which is non diegetic sound because it is a song or instrumental item that alludes to the darker elements of the episode. These elements are contained within the lyrics or tone of the music to explain more about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly, War of the Worlds uses scientific language, actual real places and media extracts to develop the reader s connection to the real world and the novel. The two texts then hold greater influence over the reader s emotions and understandings of the world around them which in turn develop contrasting beliefs about the nature of horror and death. However Welcome to Nightvale s narrative realism which influences an audience s reactions to horror and fear is lessened through the use of Absurdism. Absurdist imagery such as in episode 2 GLOW CLOUD a lion, like the kind you see on the sun baked plains of Africa or a pee stained enclosure at a local zoo, fell on top of the White Sand Ice Cream Shop allows the reader to separate themselves from the horror within an episode and instead connect with the philosophical intentions of Finke and Cranor, which is that sometimes you go through things that seem huge at the time as a mysterious glowing cloud devouring your entire community. While they re happening they feel like the only thing that matters, and you can hardly imagine that there s the world out there that can have anything going on. Both texts envelop narrative structure to draw parallelisms between reality and fiction which deepen the reader s emotional connection but the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hence this theory can also be called as the condensed theory To know the history of the management theory is the fundamental task (Sarshar, 2002). The evolution of management began after the industrial revolution had occurred in Europe and America, which was in the end of the 19th century. F W Taylor was a manufacturing manager, but he eventually became a consultant. He introduced four principles Principle 1: Study the way workers perform their tasks, gather all the informal jobs, knowledge that worker possess, and experiment with ways of improving how tasks are performed. Principle 2: Codify the new methods of performing tasks into written rules and standard operating procedures. Principle 3: Carefully select workers who possess skills and abilities that match the needs of the task and train them to perform according to the established rules and procedures. Principle 4: Establish a fair or acceptable level of performance for a tasks, and then develop a pay system that rewards performance about the acceptable level (Jones and George, 2003). In the 1900 s these principles were known nationally and were applied in many organisations. In some organisations the managers choose to follow only some of the principles, which led to some problems. After applying the principles the efficiency of the organisation increased, but instead of sharing the profit with the workers as specified by Taylor, the managers expected the workers to work for more hours for that same wages. • 9. Corruption and Law Enforcement Corruption has always been a danger to law enforcement, just as it has been a danger to all of mankind since the beginning of time. Since the very first police agency was formed in the 1800s, corruption has been widespread. The 19th century was an era in which politics played a very large role in police forces. Various political parties essentially had some police departments in their pockets, and as long as officers served to further those political parties agendas, the officers continued employment was guaranteed. Since politicians have not always been known for being straight laced, one can easily see how corruption within police departments became prevalent. Since officers were not serving the people, but rather the political elite, their motives were constantly in question. It was not long before politicians began employing police officers to overlook and even protect their illicit activities. Through this practice, officers began to see the potential monetary and political benefits of allowing and participating in certain illegal actions. Even after the establishment of countermeasures such as police commissions, civil service exams, and legislative changes, corruption remained rampant. This corruption was perhaps best exemplified by none other than the actions of many officers within the Rampart Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. It was also used for various medicinal purposes, from stomach ailments, fever to infections (Dyke, n.d.). The piñata is something else we associate with Mexico. It actually has a long history of how it came about to what we think of today. Marco Polo, while in China witnessed a celebration where a clay bull filled with seeds was hit with a stick ( Mexican Piñata , n.d.). He then brought this idea back with him to Italy ( Mexican Piñata , n.d.). This idea of clay pots made to be broken for celebrations spread to other countries ( Mexican Piñata , n.d.). It wasn t until sometime in the 1970 s where the piñata was changed to a papier mâché and filled with candies for children s birthdays ( Mexican Piñata , n.d.). Another thing that comes from Mexico is tequila, which is an alcohol that is made from the agave cactus (Zimmermann, 2010). All the tequila in the world is made in Mexico, no other country can produce and call it tequila. This is because in 1978, the Appellation of Origin Tequila which regulates and limits where tequila can be made ( The World of Tequila , n.d.). Over 60 million gallons of tequila is produced in Mexico annually ( The World of Tequila , n.d.). There are several literary devices in the poem above. There s an allusion to the River of Lethe, which is a river in Greek mythology, indicating that if one drinks from it, would cause forgetfulness. The memories that the speaker has about her lover, would be gone and she would finally forget him. • 16. Analysis Of Thomas Hobbes s Leviathan Laviathan, Thomas Hobbes most important work and one of the most substantial philosophical texts of the Seventeenth century, was written largely as a response to the political violence and turmoil of England s civil wars. In Leviathan, Hobbes, using science and reason as a foundation, attempts to create a concrete and methodological solution for peace and political stability. In the context of a historically violent and fear stricken period in which Leviathan was written, it is logical that Hobbes would claim man s principal motivation to maintain peace and avoid war is due to a fear of death, therefore forcing man to seek the preservation of life. Hobbes central idea in Leviathan centers on the necessity for absolute sovereignty and a commonwealth through covenant (social contract). For Hobbes, past democratic governments only encouraged factionalism and internal conflict within the state. The lack of centralized power served only to distract these governments from pressing issues and exterior threats, thus Hobbes believed the presence of a strong central power such as an absolute sovereign would preserve peace. Hobbes presents the essential idea of absolute sovereignty and commonwealth through the metaphor of the Leviathan. The leviathan serves as a symbol for the state. It is described, as a creature whose body is made up of all of the bodies of its citizens while the head of the Leviathan is the sovereign. The leviathan is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well before I answer that question, you need to know about the Enlightenment. During the Enlightenment, which took place in the 18th century, philosophers looked for natural laws that governed society and politics. The Enlightenment began in Europe as many citizens started to question their government and the way it ran. Some important philosophers during the Enlightenment were John Locke, he believed that people should be able to revolt where their government was not protecting the natural rights of the people. We created the Declaration of Independence, US Bill of Rights, The US Constitution and may more important documents. Rousseau helped form the ideas behind some of these important documents. He wrote the Social Contract which says that the government should rule according to the will of the people. Adam Smith also said that governments should not interfere with a free market economy. The work of fiction that challenged and encouraged my perceptions on identity and discrimination is a piece of short fiction called Rudali , written in Bengali by Mahasweta Devi and translated to English by Anjum Katyal. This text serves as an epitome of class, caste and gender subalternity in the historic context of brahmanical patriarchy. She thinks that to ignore the latter in the shadow of the former, is a denial of history . But Usha Ganguli in her introductory text Metamorphosis of Rudali presents a different view and says that in many ways this could be read as an enabling feminist text with the empowerement of Sanichri, the bonding between the two characters, the importance given to household chores, the common experiences of discrimination of women along class lines and the rare sensitivity expressed by the author towards women in general. When he put his reforms into place, he developed a concept of extreme Russian nationalism called Russification. He used Russification to develop a purely Russian nation. Alexander III used Russification to get rid of any nationality in Russia that is not Russian or any person in Russia that does not support his reforms. Along with secular reform, religious toleration was sacrificed during this period. One of the first developments in this stage is puberty, so the first strategy for this period is being aware of when an individual is to begin puberty. This is important because it is likely that a young woman will start developing before a young man. This may cause bullying and social confusion. The book says that women tend to develop breasts by the age of ten, as well as having the first menstrual period by the age of twelve and a half. While young men have their peak height spurt at age fourteen and can start growing facial hair by age sixteen (Hockenbury et.al, 2016). The strategy to take home with this new development is understanding that part of this stage will include peer relationships just as much as parental relationships. • 26. Reflective Beliefs Of AquinasTeaching On The Eucharist Aquinas teaching on the Eucharist has offered many new and distinctive insights to me. One of these insights is when Aquinas asks the question whether one should distinguish the two ways of eating Christ s body. The two ways are spiritually and sacramentally. His opponents argue there is no need to and I thought the same as well, because eating the bread and drinking the wine would encompass both. However, after reading Aquinas I answer , it became clear to me that there is a twofold division between the sacrament itself and the effect of it. An example my professor gave is if a mouse ate some bread and wine. The mouse is not mindful and because of that, it only participated in the physical aspect of the Eucharist, but not with its effect. You must be mindful to appreciate the symbols of bread and wine or there will be more harm than good if you are not attentive of what God is doing. A quote from Aquinas that helped me understand this better is when he says, but the sacramental eating that does not secure the effect is contrasted with spiritual eating, just as the imperfect, which does not attain perfection of its species, is contrasted with the perfect (ST 3.80.1). What he means by this is that just by merely participating in the sacrament alone without the effect is like doing something in an imperfect way. The perfect way of doing this is by complete eating, which is receiving both the visible and invisible effects. Aquinas also offers some strong arguments against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Giant Steppes Toward Freedom by Ancestors It is difficult for many Americans today to imagine taking everything they own and moving to a new country because of religious and political freedoms. With these freedoms taken so much for granted, we rarely think of the steps taken by our ancestors to gain that liberty. When looking at attempts in history to gain freedom, it is usual to look to the founding fathers of America and their sacrifices. However, other groups of people have strived for the same thing, one such group being the people of the divided German states shortly after the Seven Year s War. Through several generations of Germans, these people moved across country, across continent, and eventually even across the ocean to America in order to gain that much desired freedom. In about 1763, the Germans were experiencing many problems. With the seven years war just behind them, much of the land had been destroyed. Crops were trampled, and properties were decimated, making the living conditions in Germany very difficult. On top of that, the war had left the political system in a state of chaos. At that time, Germany was not together as a nation but was rather divided into forty two different states. Unified Germany as we know it today did not come about until much later, in about 1872. During this time minority religions struggled in the German states. • 29. Plato s System Of Metaphysics Adrian Farrales Introduction to Philosophy Metaphysics 11/6/14 Plato s system of metaphysics revolves around the concept of Eidos, or forms. A form is the perfect and truest instance of a particular idea. In the world, we find particular instances of each form. For example, a certain pen is a particular instance of the form of pen. Every single pen in the world contributes to the form of pen. This contribution of particulars to the forms is called mathexis in Greek, or simply, participation. The participation of all particulars help to define and derive common characteristics of the form. Using the pen example, all pens function as a writing utensil, usually contain some form of ink, and generally are cylindrical. Every pen is somewhat imperfect and has flaws of some sort. Regarding ontology, these forms are the highest level of reality and the purest form of existence, while the particulars are imperfect and cheap imitations. Regarding our senses, Plato believed that the world we live in, that is the world of particulars, is an illusion because the most real world would be the world of the forms. Thus our senses are not accurate and our sense perceptions are merely copies of the forms. Plato exemplifies this in the allegory of the cave, portraying a false sense of reality. Plato believed that these forms are innate to human beings, as we were born with them. By doing philosophy, we undergo a process of recollection of these forms, ultimately ... Being personally responsible means you take ownership of what you do in and with your life. This means from the time you wake up until you go to bed at night, your life is your responsibility and yours alone. Your values, morals, and beliefs are all contributing factors in how you view being personally responsible. If you have been raised and taught to believe that you should consider your actions at all times, then responsibility becomes second nature to you . For some it may be a little more difficult to grasp this concept. What we need to remember is that personal responsibility is important in every aspect of life . In college one has to take personal responsibility very seriously. I began my college education in my early thirties. I had been out of school for quite some time and knew that I faced a real challenge. I had to purpose in my mind that I was going to do whatever it took to reach my academic goals. Starting out I faced several disadvantages , from lack of financial aid, to self doubt. I had to take charge of what was my dream and find a way to make it happen. I went to the college after obtaining my GED and just laid it all out on the line. Once I received my first class schedule I felt I was on my way. That very first class night I had an eye opening moment. I realized that this was going to take a lot of hard work and determination. I found out quickly that not everyone ... • 32. The Applicability Of The Ib Risk Assessment Tool In Iran... ICS is the first longitudinal population based study, primarily designed to develop a CVD risk assessment tool (PARS) in Iran and EMR. ICS is being organized in three geographic areas with a large urban and rural population [14]. We developed the PARS as a new CVD risk prediction tool in Iran, in preparation for a major change in national policy by identifying the patients at high risk of CVD. Although Framingham prediction algorithms have been comprehensively used in the United States and other countries [29 31], they consist of white middleclass individuals; therefore, there are concerns about the generalization of their findings to other populations and societies particularly in low and middle income countries[14]. The limitations for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By calculating total CV risk, including the 10 year risk of fatal or non fatal myocardial infarction, unstable angina, sudden cardiac death, and fatal or non fatal stroke, we anticipate to provide a better risk estimate. Accordingly, WHO and current stress practice guidelines prefer to consider the total risk in making decisions about treatment [1, 26, 41, 42]. Based on a large Iranian representative population, we created a PARS charts. The PARS charts are user friendly and color coded. Furthermore, using a 6 color gradient from brown as the highest risk to green as the lowest probability of CVD event help not only the Physicians but also the individuals to see their position on the chart [43]. It is known that diabetes is positively associated with the CVD risk. One of the limitations of the Framingham risk score is the small number of diabetic people in a cohort of 5573 individuals (4%) and also the diabetes definition was based on a random blood glucose concentration 9 mmol/L or the use of anti glycemic treatment. Hence, the accuracy of the Framingham risk score for CV risk assessment in diabetic patients has been addressed in previous studies [44]. The most widely used risk score in the European countries, SCORE [6], also lacks the risk prediction power of diabetes because of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Brian s Song Technology And Culture Analysis Exam #2: Brian s Song, Flow, and Culture In Television: Technology and Cultural Form , Williams labels flow as the defining characteristic of broadcasting, simultaneously as a technology and as a cultural form . TV broadcasting slowly expanded its straightforward approach to programming by developing a planned flow , tying programs into a larger goal of subtly goading audiences to stay tuned for other (sometimes related, sometimes not) programming. Brian s Song, maybe the most successful TV movie to come out in 1971 (along with Spielberg s Duel), is a prime example of a TV network both capitalizing on its existing base and inviting new audiences while at the same time promoting its own brand (ABC s still fairly new Monday Night Football ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brian s Song, while meaningful and groundbreaking (in regards to its impact on the future of made for TV movies), is just another notable side effect of networks acting as their own PR agents. The audience became so engaged with the film that they were willing to sit through several minutes of commercials, both MNF related and promoting other ABC programs, interspersed throughout the film just to see its conclusion. The consensual space wasn t created out of an actual want for positive representation, but out of necessity. Even in the 70s, it was impossible for a program to be a huge success with a limited audience. Brian s Song benefitted from its inclusion of female characters (however one dimensional) not only because they allowed straight male viewers to cry knowing they were crying over equally straight characters, but because it allowed women who weren t previously football fans to gain some interest. The family angle is another aspect of the consensual space, as families in this sense aren t limited by class or race, with black and white families alike being able to enjoy the film and be the target group for ads displayed for other family oriented shows. In a way, ABC used Brian s Song and the tragedy that befell Piccolo to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Fruit Fly Research Paper Three Point Test Cross and Gene Mapping in Drosophila Melanogaster Many traits incorporated into the design of the Drosophila, commonly known as the fruit fly, make it an optimal specimen for scientific research. Their short life cycle, averaging between twelve and fourteen days, and ability to be easily manipulated through controlled mating allows scientist the opportunity to create large sample sizes with great ease. Although these tiny creatures have been around since the days of ancient Greece, they were not thrown into the scientific spot light until Dr. Thomas Hunt Morgan, an embryologist at Columbia University in New York, incorporated them into his study on sex limited inheritance. By isolating mutant flies and performing test crosses he was able to determine that genes were in fact located on chromosomes and therefore, create a deeper understanding of heredity. In 1910 he discovered a white eyed variant that became the fuel behind the new field of genetics. Throughout the following years, Morgan and his contemporaries established the foundations of classical genetics, leading to a Nobel Prize for Morgan in 1933. Linkage, in terms of genetic importance, consists of the capability of genes to be inherited together when they are located together on a single chromosome. A technique associated with linkage is genetic mapping. This scientific process has been used to located genes that, when they react together, can cause medical conditions such as heart disease and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role Of Clara In The Battlefield It s tough to picture a little girl who had little to no confidence and was an introvert to grow up to be someone who will go out into the bloody battle fields and save soldier s lives. Growing up in the Barton home was not easy. Having three older siblings and parents Stephen and Sarah, who fought continuously, Clara felt like an unwanted burden to her family. Clara s mother was giving birth to Clara when her father decided not to call the doctor because he thought the baby wasn t worth the expense. This shows how Stephen and Sarah treated her and caused her problems in her future with her self confidence. Clara became known as the Angel of the Battlefield because of the dedication and compassion she had toward the soldiers. Clara was appointed by Abraham Lincoln to identify the dead soldiers and to mark their graves. It would have been such a comfort for a family to receive a letter from their soldier with his last words. Clara Barton touched the lives of the soldier s families too. With the help of volunteers, she uncovered thousands and thousands of lost soldiers in unmarked graves. Knowing that the soldier had died and was not missing in action brought closure to the family.
