What Is The Mood Of Puttin On The Ritz
The song Puttin on the Ritz was originally written by Irving Berlin in 1929. This particular cover of
the song was first performed by the singer Taco Ockerse in 1983. The music video gained popularity
on the Television network, MTV, and has since remained famous for its lavish scenes and dark
undertones. Such tones make up the rhetorical appeal within the video. The video begins with an look
at rugged people huddled around a fire. These people represent the homeless and unemployed that
were common around this period, the Gilded Age. During this period the rich, represented by Taco,
flaunted their wealth and partied with ignorance about the poor. This is shown by the camera moving
to Taco, the dancing man with a glowing cane, who is dancing ... Show more content on

The most recited line is, If you re blue and you don t know where to go to why don t you go where
fashion sits . This is a reference to the bored and depressed wealthy who were practically begging for
ways to spend their money. The parties and extravengence to the extent of Gatsby, can be linked back
to this desire of expenditure. The words referring to fashion are talking about how the rich of the time
loved to display their wealth, the utmost fashion, to the poor. The next most restated line is, Dressed
up like a million dollar trooper Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper Super duper . The first words
mean that the wealthy in their expensive clothes are promoting their class, as a soldier exhibits his
country through a uniform. The next words allude to the actor Gary Cooper who was popular around
the time Irving Berlin was writing the song. Continuing to the rest of the chorus, the lines reference
the expensive clothes that the wealthy would like to display. Different types of wear all day coat pants
With stripes and cutaway coats for perfect fits . These types of clothes were relativity new during the
period and also with the requirement they had to be custom tailored, were ludicrously expensive.
Come let s mix where Rockefellers Walk with sticks or umbrellas in their mits . The reference to the
wealthy Rockefeller family shows the interactions between the elite was only to show off one s
wealth. Moreover, during the time canes and umbrellas, while they do serve a purpose, were only
trinkets and again representations of the owner s wealth. The income divide is further illustrated in the

The Importance Of Learning English Language
In this article, Karmos and Csizér illustrate the way acquisition of language in different age gaps
through incentive to learn English language as a second form of communication. The study offers a
description of learning English in three different learner populations in Hungary. The population
included university students, secondary school students, and adults. The researchers used
questionnaires that were given to the population of the study to evoke their feeling on learning the
second language so that they could understand the difference between the acquisitions of English as
their second language.
Reason why the study/article was needed
The article was needed so that we can understand the impact of motivation on the different group in a
society in acquiring or rather their ability and interest in learning new things. In this case, the article
offers the insight on the kind of motivation different aged people requires or has an interest in for
learning a new language. It is through the various age groups that we came to know that young
secondary students are impacted by attitude and desire along with anxiety to be the first one to learn
the language. The research was needed to understand the effects that are associated with learning a
second language and the type of motivation the different age group requires to be in a position to learn
a language. We wanted to acknowledge the importance of giving skills and knowledge to the student
so that they can have a sense of

Dickens Creation of a Picture of Nineteenth Century School in Nicholas Nickleby
This essay demonstrates how Charles Dickens, the author of the novel Nicholas Nickleby creates an
image of the 19th century school Dotheby s Hall School for Boys. Also I will be discussing the
conditions of the school, the description of the boys and the protagonists (Mr. Squeers, Smike and
Nicholas.) In the 19th century the rich students were treated pleasantly because they had the money to
pay the school however the poor students were treated harshly. Also, in the 19th century there was no
social service so the teachers could do as they wished to the students.
When Dickens was writing this novel, conditions in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition here is another quotation an unhealthy looking boy with warts all over his hands. This
portrays that the children are not being given any medicine for any wounds. Dickens is trying to make
the reader create a picture that makes them feel repentant for the boys.
However, Dickens shows the character Mr. and Mrs. Squeers as the symbol of evil and violence in this
novel. Mr. Squeers has power in the beginning of the story but through the extent of the novel he
looses the power to Nicholas Nickleby and the children gain hope from Nicholas Nickleby. For
example administering a cut with the cane . This examines that Mr. Squeers has the power to do what
ever he wishes to the children. Mr. Squeers looses his power over the children at the end for example
beat the ruffian till he roared for mercy . This studies how Mr. Squeers is weakened by one man.
Nickleby also uses violence to gain power over Mr. Squeers Nickelby uses violence for the right
reason.
The character Nickleby is shown to be nice, mature and understanding. Nickleby stands up to Mr. and
Mrs. Squeers for example flung Squeers from him with all the

The Narrator In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily
The narrator plays a key role in the development of the plot and meaning of a story. A Rose for Emily,
by William Faulkner, tells the story of Miss Emily Grierson and her mysterious, isolated life. The
narrator of the story, who never reveals their identity, presents the story in a unique way; using a slight
combination of first and third person points of view. Although hard to identify, the narrator at some
points does and does not include themselves in the information they are sharing with the readers. To
start, the author narrates using this style to keep the readers wondering and interested. In addition,
Faulkner wishes to portray Emily as a sympathetic character. Also, the narrator communicates the
story in a manner similar to the way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faulkner achieves this by revealing details about her, not about what happens to her in life, towards
the end of the story. Emily went through many tragic events throughout her life, but why she acts a
certain remains a secret. An example of when the narrator wants to make the readers feel sympathy
towards Emily is when her father s death comes up. The narrator reveals this at the beginning, so her
following actions do not seem bizarre. Once her father dies, she insists that he is not dead and does not
want them to take his body away from her. The narrator says, We did not say she was crazy then. We
believed she had to do that (Faulkner 153). The readers interpret that the narrator experiences affection
for Emily and admires her, as her behaviours never come off as peculiar. Faulkner uses the narrator to
provide outside observations to the readers. If the story had a different point of view, for example,
Emily s point of view, the readers would not be receiving the information in a way that would help
understand her situation. The narrator provides foreshadowing, We did not say she was crazy then
(Faulkner 153). The word then indicates that the citizens did not see her as crazy before; but once they
discover more information they realize that something is definitely not right. In conclusion, the
narrator tells the story out of order to make the readers sympathetic towards Miss Emily so they have

Firearms in America In America there are two strong sides that are for and against the owning of
firearms. I will refer to the side that is for firearms as the pro gun side and antigun side for those who
oppose firearms. In this paper I will discuss how firearms affect our lives here in America. I will
inform you what a firearm is and how they are used. I will discuss whether owning a firearm is ever
morally permissible. I hope that by the end of this paper that you will be able make your own decision
on this topic and join the side that you think is right. In this paper I would like to analyze how firearm

If you do not believe me that if the government ban assault rifles that people could still get them then
just look at drugs they are illegal but people are still able to buy them and use them. One of the
antigun side arguments is that we should out outlaw all assault rifles because they are automatic
therefore they are too dangerous and could end up in the wrong hands. Pro gun side say that if we start
banning all assault rifles when does it stop next we will be banning pistols because they are automatic.
The pro gun side is using the slippery slope agreement stating that by banning one set of guns will
eventually ban all guns. The antigun side making a benefits argument stating that if these guns were
banned they could not end up in the wrong and less massacres would happen. The pro gun side argues
that the second amendment states that we have the right to bear arms. That if we were to ban guns that
we would infringe our rights. The antigun gun side claims that by having limiting guns will not
infringe on anyone s right that it will only make our lives safer. They also say that assault rifles do not
belong in civilian hands, that they belong only on the battlefields. These two arguments go back and
forth all the time. This is mainly between republicans and democrats, both trying to gain some
political advantage. I think

Discrimination And Sexism In The Movie Hidden Figures
The movie Hidden figures is based on a true story of three opinionated Negro women and their
onerous journey towards success. Together they did everything in their power to fight against
discrimination and prove that women are just as capable as men. The trio played an essential role in
the launch of the astronaut John glenn into space, as well as orchestrating his return and landing. The
movie showcases what can be done in the face of adversity, and what can happen the walls of
discrimination and sexism are knocked down. The protagonist, Katherine, is first introduced to us as a
child who is exceedingly smart for her age and is solving problems that even adults would never
dream of attempting. Much to her teachers delightment, the screens show Katharine hard at work,
chalk in hand, scribbling away on the blackboard. It is mentioned early on in the movie that Katherine
can calculate any numbers you put in front of her; there isn t a problem out there she is incapable of
solving. She takes pride in informing people, when they underestimate her, that she was the first
Negro female student at West Virginia university graduate school. Katherine constantly displays
diligence with everything she does and dedicates all her efforts and most of her time towards her job.
To me, It is not at all surprising that her outstanding talent for calculating complex math problems and
her perspicacious mind landed her a high ranked job at NASA and led to her making history. As we

The Architects Of Their Own Downfall
Please excuse the cliché here, but architects are; the architects of their own downfall. August
Schmarsow likens the role of the architect as similar to a conductor in an orchestra. The conductors of
space . A quite romantic notion, but why has the trust diminished between client and architect? In the
UK, for example, most clients are now seeking developers rather than employ an architect. To which
there is certain logic, why employ an external body who will not only cost more, but may start to
deploy their own ideas onto the scheme? Surely the client calls the shots because of their larger
wallet? Here in lies the problem. Developers, Town Planners and Surveyors are all number based
professions, a series of calculations dictating spatial qualities and aesthetic appeal. How many
bedrooms can we fit in, what is the cost of the project, what kind of profits can we make? All
questions that the client will be more than content with when dealing with said professions. The
architect is seen as the rebel of the building profession; forever pushing limits to design, aesthetics,
engineering and spatial quality. The architect brings a unique quality to the design team, a
consideration for all aspects. Be that of scale, cost, materiality, spatial, detailing, servicing, romantics,
social implications, theoretical aspirations. The list goes on and on. But this is the point; it is this wide
consideration that makes the architect a disposable and superfluous piece of the design

Class Divisions In The Turn Of The Screw
In The Turn of the Screw, Henry James employs class divisions through clothing, representing how
the characters are inclined to act through their degree of conformity to societal expectations. First
published in 1898, by Collier s Weekly, a magazine company that had a reputation of reporting on
integral societal events and topics people considered important to their lives, the magazine
commissioned the help of famous writers to write on pressing historical events of the time (Elduff). It
grew to be one of the most widely read magazines in the United States by 1892, which allowed James
to write a novella that hit on concerns regarding social mobility on a larger scale platform. Since the
Victorian era was marked by prosperity and innovations in technology, incomes rose leading to the
growing of the middle class. This had a drastic impact on the culture and the elites who feared the
middle class movement for they had many reasons for resenting their practical stigmatization as
second class citizens (Best 238). James highlights this concern through pointing out clothing which
denotes which class a characters associated with and coupling this with immoral actions of the times.
Since many people were jostling to get into upper society, certain rules regarding etiquette and dress ...

Miss Jessel who s unmarried, as well as living in Bly with Peter is inferred to have become involved

self control and self discipline that Victorian society functioned off of. Henry James having both of

Significance Of The Mustard Seed Parable
Significance of the Growing Seed and Mustard Seed Parables
The growing and mustard seed parables expound upon the soils parable provided earlier in the book of
Mark. Once the suitability of the soils is described, the human and divine roles in the process of
growing the kingdom of God are interpreted. Subsequently the inevitable harvest and abundant growth
of the kingdom of God is depicted.
Human Responsibility
As described in the growing seed parable, the sower has no divine identity in the text. This is
evidenced with the use of the term used, man , and the activity, or the lack of activity, by the sower
after the seed is spread upon the ground. The sower is described as sleeping during the night and
displays no activity during the day toward the seed (4:27). The lack of divine identity of the sower is
also evidenced with the provision that as the seed begins to grow, he himself does not know how
(4:27). It is not logical to argue that an omniscient God would not understand how a seed would grow.
Notwithstanding, it is logical to determine that a human sower does not ... Show more content on

Jesus connects the inevitable growth of the seed by the power of God in preceding parable and the
growth of the mustard. The growth of the mustard seed is symbolic of the spread of God s word and
the growth of the kingdom. Though at the time of the parable being taught the kingdom would seem
minuscule to the small rag tag group of disciples, inevitably the kingdom would grow to a glorious
stature with the climax arriving at Christ s second coming when the kingdom surpasses all others in
power, glory, and majesty . The mustard seed displays the small beginnings of the kingdom,
something the disciples being taught by Jesus would recognize, into the picture of the inevitable
eschatological victory of

Essay On Chinese Immigration
Like King Midas greed, the lure of instant wealth amid dreams of piles of gold led many Chines to
America and eventually to the misery of Midas. Upon hearing of the news of Gold Mountain in 1848
in California, many Chinese immigrants came to America on ships. Most Chinese immigrants were
coming to America to become wealthy and to support their families. The Chinese immigrated into the
United States due to the economic hardship in China as well. Upon arriving, they worked in gold
mines and on building railroads, they faced resentment from Americans, and ultimately the Chinese
Exclusion Act was passed. After coming to America because of The Gold Rush, Chinese immigrants
first worked mining gold, but then worked on building railroads. They tended to mine for small pieces,

unforgettable. Clairol then produced an at home color bath that became a breakthrough in the
American beauty industry; it was an all in one product. During this time women weren t as open as
they are now about dyeing their hair. This made people wonder does she or doesn t she color her hair?

The Death Of A Old Child
As a young child, everything was positive. Everything was okay; nothing in the world could have
possibly gone wrong. Even in a graveyard, everything seemed to be another day. The green grass, the
tall stones, the light blue sky, hanging over our heads. It s a park mom! Look at all these stones to rest
behind after a game of tag! I received some soft smiles, some little laughs. There is nothing heart
breaking about this place.
Or at least I thought.
It only took one word to have my world come crashing down into pieces. Death. On September 19th,
the day I was told, nothing seemed to have been different. I felt the same, looked the same everything

nail that was getting hammered into the wall. I was given a flower to put next to him in the casket. The
same bright flowers at the graveyard. It is different; this is my grandfather. He cannot be gone, he isn t
gone. I am not ready to let go just yet. I was still holding on to his hand so tightly.
People gathered in the funeral home, and the constant pats on my back and saying how sorry they
were was all that was said to me that night. I wanted to respond with Why are you sorry? like I would
have as a child. Instead, I just nodded and lent a faint smile to each person. There were also a series of
hugs for sympathy, but each hug made the burning grow and the tears want to spill more. No crying.
Not yet.
Eventually, as it came time to say our last goodbyes, I felt someone slip their arms around me. I was
prepared for my answer, but instead, new words came.
He loved you so much, the voice whispered. Remember that. And I did. I was the last to say my good

Dinitrogen Research Paper
A catalytic route to ammonia from dinitrogen has been one of the most intensively researched areas of
chemistry in the last 50 years. Nitrogen gas constitutes 78% of Earth s atmosphere, and is easily
accessed through the fractional distillation of air. Despite this enormous potential for use as a chemical
feedstock to synthesize ammonia, the inert nature of elemental nitrogen makes it extremely difficult
for most practical purposes. Currently, ammonia is synthesized via the Haber Bosch process, which
uses nitrogen, hydrogen, and an iron catalyst at an excess of 200 °C and 300 atm. The enormous
energy demands of this process consume approximately 2% of the world s annual energy supply.
Despite this high cost, the Haber Bosch process has been invaluable as a chemical process over the
last century because it has solely allowed the agricultural industry to keep up with the rising food
demand of the modern world by enabling the large scale production of nitrogen based fertilizers. Still,
a more efficient route to ammonia would remove a huge burden from the worlds energy supply.
Despite our struggles to efficiently reduce dinitrogen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Impacts Of Globalization In China
Globalisation refers to the integration between different countries and economies and the increased
impact of international influences on all aspects of life and economic activity . China is the world s
second largest economy and is the fastest growing economy over the past decades, hence known as an
emerging economy, by sustaining an average rate of growth of around 10% GDP p.a (2014). Hence,
with the transition from a purely planned to a market driven or free market economy has also
facilitated progress in development, trade and increases in per capita income paving the way for
poverty reduction. The impacts of globalisation have enabled the Chinese government to adopt
various strategies in response, and consequently have had significant impacts on the Chinese economy
to promote _______ and _______. China has sustained a high rate of average annual growth in real
GDP 10.1% between 1998 and 2008. The growth rate peaked at 14.2% in 2007 but slowed to 9.2%
due to the impact of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) on China s exports and inflows of foreign
investments. Hence, in 2015, China s growth was 6.9%, falling to 6.7% in 2016 and forecast at 6.7%
in 2017. Despite these recent slowdowns, the Chinese economy has seen a rapid rise in overall
economic performance over the past years due to the introduction of globalisation. The Chinese
government has capitalised on growth opportunities through policies promoting trade and foreign

Essay on What Is Accountability in the Army
What is accountability and the definition: (DOD) The obligation imposed by law or lawful order or

The person having this obligation may or may not have actual possession of the property, documents,

A soldier must understand that no one will care about his or hers property as much as their leaders do.
When we do a chain of command change over, we must pull 100% of all equipment that belongs to
our platoon and show that we have everything that was hand receipted to us. The leaders that hold our
sub hand receipts will be a mixed bag: some will be great at accounting for their property; some will
not. So as a soldier I should personally ensure that things are done right .Certainly, the change of
command inventory is a critical part of property accountability. However, a commander is less likely
to have problems with property during the change of command inventory when everyone s attention is
on it and the inventory is the commander s only responsibility. Assertions of responsibility can mean a
number of different things. We might be making a judgment of someone s character, implying that a
soldier can be trusted to act responsibly. We might refer to a person s responsibilities, as expressed by
my responsibilities in my job are or Tom has a lot of responsibilities . We might mean that someone
was responsible for bringing something about. But these responses don t take us far towards a
satisfactory answer to the question What do we mean when we talk about responsibilities . To advance
our understanding of responsible action we need to know who is responsible, and for what. The
question Who is responsible? has both practical and

be excellent runners, jumpers, and even swimmers. Males, called bucks, have curved, branched antlers
that are shed each year. They use these antlers to attract mates, mark their territory and sometimes to
fight or defend their territory against other males. About six months after mating, the female deer,
called a doe, will have 1 3 offspring known as fawns. The fawns are reddish brown at birth, and are

When we look or hear art, we only see and hear artist, because that is all we can see it s all we have to
work with. The problem with art is, because we love it so much, we put the artists who created it on
pedestals and we believe they cannot fail because, in some corner of our mind, we ve formed a
relationship with them and their product, and for us to discover them as imperfect shatters the illusion.
We have made a god in our mind where there is only a human, as flawed and imperfect as ourselves,
but what that piece of art they created gave us, in that moment in time, was pure love, joy and
satisfaction. The art didn t do anything wrong to you. The art shouldn t be punished. Say what you will
of the artist, but the product they produced and that you love shouldn t be demeaned if it made you
happy for one moment in time.
Can we separate the art from the artist? Only ethical answer is? No. Most people like Roman

The Early Christian Doctrine Of The Trinity
The doctrine of the Trinity is the study of who God is, what God is like, how God works, and how
God is to be approached (Erickson). God as Trinity was established by the dogma of the ancient
Church and defends the central faith of the Bible and the Church (Grenz). The Christian doctrine of
the Trinity states that there is One God who is three divine persons; the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
I will describe how the early Christian church came to its understanding of God as Three in One.
Although the Bible does not clearly teach the Trinitarian view of God, it (Erickson) does provide an
understanding of God as Three in One. In the Old Testament, God refers to Himself in the plural (e.g.,
Gen 1:26, 3:22, 11:7; Isa 6:8) which could suggest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to address prayer to each member of the Trinity, in accordance with the purpose of the
prayer and the role of each Trinitarian person. Each Trinitarian person is fully divine so we need to
address each member of the Trinity in prayer and worship. We need to address prayers of worship to
the Father (e.g. Luke 11:2; Matthew 6:9) so that we can praise and thank Him for sending His Son. We
need to address certain prayers of worship to the Son because of His wiliness to come and give His
life for us (e.g. Phil 2: 9 10). Although there is no biblical reference to prayer being addressed to the
Holy Spirit, we can also address certain prayers to the Holy Spirit, although it is also appropriate to
ask the Father to make the Holy Spirit present in our lives. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to
pray and when we pray in the Spirit, we are being guided by the Spirit (Acts 11:12; Acts 13:2).
Therefore, we need to praise the Holy Spirit for guiding believers and convicting

Enron, Smartest Guys in the Room Assignment
When managing an MNC, managers are expected to make decisions that will maximize the stock
price. Managers at Enron were trying to do exactly that, and it worked well for a while. Even though
what they were doing might have been a fraud or illegal, they focused in trying to keep their stock
prices as highest as they could.
Enron s collapse had many causes. One of the causes was all the debt that Enron was having due to all
the failed direct foreign investments (DFI) they made. At Enron, people tried to trade everything they
could. They tried to trade weather derivatives, broadband internet access, water, news, etc.
One of their failed investments was on an electricity plant in India, in which

My Favorite Vacation Spot
My Favorite Family Vacation Spot
As soon as I got of the plane and breathed in that City air I new my life would change for the better. I
was waiting for this day for the past several months. It was the first time I would go with my father
and brothers on their Boys Only Vacation . I was thrilled at the fact that they would finally let me tag
along with them. This year they decided to go to Washington D.C. I had never been to D.C before, and
what made it even better was the fact that around the time we would arrive it would be snowing. It
was my first time ever seeing snow with my naked eye. So when the time came we headed out to
Tampa International Airport. We checked our bags, went threw security and waiting in line before
entering the aircraft. It was about a 2 hour flight before we arrived in the place that now has my heart
till the day I die. As soon as we stepped out the Airport my eyes were widened by the site of seeing
snow for the first time. The snow felt as if it was made out of a snow cone machine. The sound of my
feet stomping in the snow like stepping on packing peanuts is the sound that I will listen to for hours.
After about a quarter of a mile walk we got to the subway station where for the first time I
experienced how busy big cities can be. We got our cards and headed downstairs to where the subway
trains were. The sound of a jazz musician playing Duke Ellington s Rhapsody in Blue made me want
to give the man all the money in my pocket but sadly I couldn t. There was also the smell of chili
cheese dogs that the people next to us were trying to scarf down before the train arrived. Finally it
arrived and this was my first time on a subway car. The feeling of my butt on the rough cushioned
chairs wasn t the best feeling in the world. The sight on many people from Jamaican to Irish was one
that I haven t seen in such a small compacted space. I could also see the sight of Jefferson Memorial
and the Potomac River as we passed them was breathtaking. We passed a few other sights such as the
Washington Monument, The Lincoln Memorial and the WW2 Memorial. As we walked off the train
we could hear the conductor giving everyone safety instructions and telling them to step away from
the doors.

Special Circumstance Letter About Switching Schools

Coming from a fine arts High School and transferring to a sports driven High school was very hard.
Thier different ways of doing things was like a slap in the face. I had culture shock. Coming from such

Chinese room was created in order to refute the idea of strong AI and the functionalist theory of mind

The very first music piece started off slow but then flutes and chimes came in and took the song to a
different level. It then later on has the same type of beat which helps it continue to flow. I really like
the flute solo that was played around the middle of the song. In the next song it starts out as if it is a
church choir. The song sounds serious and probably takes part of some ritual or ceremony. The third
song sounds very inviting and calm. This song also is song by a choir or a group of people.
Throughout the video the church is present so in that case this means that this song had an importance
inside the church. The beginning of the fourth song is different by how the drums are the first things

Hallelujah chorus song which is the sixth example is a song that is still played and heard around

attention in the first few seconds of the song. The seventh example begins with opera type singing that
is meant to be sad and gloomy but precious and elegant all at the same time. This song is shown to pay

know.
Did horses evolve from a different animal?
About 55 million years ago the horse we know now was a small animal standing 2 feet tall. The
earliest horse had pointed teeth which shows that it might have eaten meat. As you know the horse
nowadays doesn t have toes. A long time ago horses had toes. The skull of the earliest horse looks like
a fox s skull with back teeth.
How were horses used in the past and used how are they used now?
For centuries horses have been used to clear forests, plow land, and herd cattle. A long time time ago

Differences Between The Outsiders Book And Movie
When comparing both mediums of The Outsiders, they both portray the story and main points of the
book differently creating advantages and disadvantages for both. The novel has many traits that the
movie doesn t have, such as details, the ability to use one s own imagination, the backstories of
characters, the personalities and emotions of different characters, and isn t held back by time
constraints. The movie confines you to one point of view, the director s. A person isn t allowed to see
the characters as they would like to, and must picture everything the way the director of the movie saw
it. First, the novel includes details that the movie doesn t include, resulting in a shorter time span in
which the movie is presented. If one had a short attention span the movie has more of an advantage
over the book, but many people like to enjoy books in a comfortable spot and receive all the details of
the story. The movie excludes certain parts of the story, changing the story altogether. The novel
contains a complete story and does not include extra scenes that were never told in the story about
what the author wrote. Excluding certain parts of the story leads to missing ... Show more content on

King Alfred the Great Essay
King Alfred the Great
King Alfred the Great was born at Wantage, in 849, on a royal manor of his father s holding, a family
estate which long afterward he himself would leave in legacy to his wife. Alfred was the youngest of
five children, four sons and a daughter, born to Ethelwulf by his wife Osburh. When Alfred was four
years old, his father, the king, who by now had long despaired of getting to Rome in the present state
of things, decided to send Alfred there, to at least receive the blessing of the Holy Father. The pope at
the time, Leo the IV, gave Alfred the blessing to become king. Alfred s time came in the year mid
April 871, when King Æthelred died. Only a king of full age could defend the land, and although

However, Alfred was not content with being on the defensive. He also attacked the Danish held City
of London in an attempt to diminish the lands ruled under Dane law (Bruce 4). No Anglo Saxon king
was ever strong enough to coerce a recalcitrant peasantry. Except Alfred who decided to allow half the
men liable for service to remain at home while the other half was out against the Danes (Stenton 261).
In order for Alfred to keep peace and defeat the Danes, he had to win many major battles. On Easter
Sunday 878, when King Alfred withdrew into the Isle of Athelney, there was every likelihood that
before the end of the year Wessex would have been divided out among the members of the Danish
army. King Alfred made sure that Wessex would escape that fate. Although Alfred did lose a major
battle against the Danes only four years ago, he overcame them in 878 when he won the Battle of
Edington. Alfred showed strong resistance by constantly engaging Danish raiding parties from his
base in Athelney. After nearly seven weeks of strong battles, Alfred was able to begin defeating the
Danes (Stenton 253). Along with Alfred s idea of coercing a recalcitrant peasantry, he had other ways
of defeating the Danes as well. Alfred began building warships in order to develop a navy. The ships
in which Alfred built were twice as long as those which they were intended to meet (Stenton 253).

Oil embargo in 1973 by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Companies (OPEC) focuses

Small Cap Diaphragm
In the recording session, listening to all the tracks, I chose two different microphones from the MXL
800 series the large and the small caps diaphragm. Both microphones were condenser microphones.
Listening to both microphones at the track I discovered few interesting facts between them. First, I
mange to listen to the smaller cap both on the recorded hammer part of the piano and the recorded
strings and I find that both microphone had different sound. For the small cap that was recorded on the
hammer of the piano sound decent yet it sounded little muddy. It sounded like when it had an insert
plug in of a chorus or modulation that when the key was stroked the sound was aggressively vibrating,
the piano s sustain was little aggressive Picturing if there was a lot of sound waves combined together.
Also it sounded as if the piano was played in a small room which the sound sounded much tied. Next,
the smaller cap on string recording, sounded much more balanced. It sounded tied yet the every note
on the piano sounded realistic. Moreover, the dynamic range was wide enough that it was easy to
listen to especially it had good amount of bass and harmonics of the piano. The microphone sound
more open rather than narrow sound like the hammered one.

becomes a dominant sound overall of the recording. Furthermore, this I came to acknowledge the fact
that Microphones compliment the artist when it position

legitimate business, such as running a laundry shop (the classic example), it is money laundering .
Thus, the ingredients of the Act are clear: there has to be an offence, monies have to be earned through

Management Information Systems and Creating a Successful...
Management Information Systems Recommendations Report
For Fictitious Company Globally, retailing is witnessing epic transformations. The use of technology
has fueled upheavals in the retail landscape that are revolutionary in scope, and unprecedented in
nature (Leventon, Gupta Magal, 2011). Technology has advanced from the automation of structured
processes to systems that are truly revolutionary in that they introduce change into the fundamental
business procedures, workflow and management of an organization. Numerous studies have shown
that the employment of new or the updating of a business s existing technology contributes to a firm s
competitive advantage, which in turn creates greater value for the customer (Altshuler, Gelb Henry,
2010; Bharadwaj, 2000; Carr, 2003; Mellville, Kraemer, Ghurbaxani, 2004). The main operational and
human resource challenges for Fictitious Company that will be addressed from a management
information system perspective in this report are: low levels of inventory, manual procurement
procedures, access to new trends, and security and ethical breaches by employees.
A competitive advantage exists when a company is able to deliver the same benefits as competitors
but at a lower cost, or deliver benefits that exceed those of competing products (Porter, 1998). The
operational and human resource challenges experienced by Fictitious Company clearly places the
business at a competitive disadvantage. To address this dilemma it is

Social Construct On Gender Roles Essay
Ailyn V. Gutierrez Romanes
Professor Hussein Elali
ENC 1101
5 December 2016
Social Construct on Gender Roles Social constructs are ideas that are created by societies that are not
representations of reality. Usually ideas that are socially constructed are seen as the norm because they
have prevailed within societies for several years. These ideas have developed as generations have
passed them on and as societies have become more liberal. Social constructs can range from various
topics but, in gender roles social constructs have caused a significant impact because these ideas
dictate what is wrong and what is right for men and women to do. The rules that societies have created
for each gender have been modified over the years, but they have affected the decisions that each
person makes and has led to disagreements when something out of the norm is done. The reason that
some of these ideas have changed over time is because family dynamics have changed, education is
more accessible and societies have become more advanced. As societies and communities developed
they began to transform family dynamics. The socially constructed idea of gender that was originally
created for the family was that the men had to work and the women had to stay at home and take care
of household chores. These ideas were constructed base on past societies and communities but in
today s societies it is an idea that happens but rarely because societies today are constructed
differently. According to the

Thomas church in Leipzig. This was a demanding job in which Bach composed canatas for the St.
Thomas and St. Nicholas churches, conduct the choirs, oversee the musical activities of numerous
municipal churches, and teach Latin in the St. Thomas choir school. Bach remained at his post in
Leipzig until his death in 1750. Although he excelled his forbears and contemporaries, he did not
receive the respect he deserved until after his death. Bach is now regarded as one of the greatest
composers of all composers and is a source of inspiration for musicians.
While Bach s musical career centered around Germany, Antonio Vivaldi was the son of a professional
violinist whose musical career cantered in Italy. Born on March 4, 1678, Vivaldi was a virtuoso
violinist and composer whose works included over 500 concertos.
Vivaldi s output was enormous. It is said that he invented ritornello form. If he did not invent this, he
was the first to use this technique. In 1703, Vivaldi began an on and off relationship with the Ospedale
della Pieta, a home for the female offspring of noblemen and their mistresses. Vivaldi remained
working this post for much of his life. He did, however, take leave to compose many of his famous
operas such as Ottone in villa, his first opera.
Baroque music symbolized a changing in the times. From the early period, when Bach introduced his
rich polyphonic concertos and excelled as a virtuoso organist and composer. The evolution of music

phrase the angel in the house was used to describe their duty. Obviously, this applies to women of a
certain rank, mostly those belonging to the middle class. Working class women soon had to leave
home and work in order to help feed their family. The novel genre was only emerging at the time, and
thus many women characters started to be portrayed by many different authors, many of which
described them as much more complex than the vision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women at that time were supposed to take good care of their family and of their house. They had to be
good, gentle, caring and motherly. Margaret does behave in that way, she takes care of her parents
when they all come to live in Milton in the way that every daughter is supposed to. However, she does
not only look after them, but she actually takes care of almost everything regarding their lives. In a
sense, she acts like her father should, but he is somehow too weak to do so. For instance, Margaret is
the one organising the moving from Helstone to Milton in the very beginning of the novel after her
father asked her to: Do what you think best. (p. 56). This could appear as quite a burdensome
responsibility for a young woman like Margaret, and many other women of her age would not have
been able to do it. This is even more evident thereafter in the story. Right after her mother has passed
away, Margaret does not have time to mourn, for she must already arrange the funeral and take care of
her brother and father: The father and brother depended upon her; while they were giving way to grief,
she must be working, planning, considering. (p. 302). Once again, this should be her father s role, and
yet, Margaret is carrying the burden of taking care of everything. This idea that Margaret takes care of
everything instead of her father is even more striking when we put her in contrast with another young
girl of her age, her cousin Edith who epitomises the ideal Victorian lady. Margaret and Edith grew up
together, yet their lives completely differ when Edith gets married to Captain Lennox. While Margaret
is a confident, nearly self sufficient woman who must take care of everything, Edith, once she gets
married, appears as a passive shallow young girl, relying on her husband and on her

  • 2. What Is The Mood Of Puttin On The Ritz The song Puttin on the Ritz was originally written by Irving Berlin in 1929. This particular cover of the song was first performed by the singer Taco Ockerse in 1983. The music video gained popularity on the Television network, MTV, and has since remained famous for its lavish scenes and dark undertones. Such tones make up the rhetorical appeal within the video. The video begins with an look at rugged people huddled around a fire. These people represent the homeless and unemployed that were common around this period, the Gilded Age. During this period the rich, represented by Taco, flaunted their wealth and partied with ignorance about the poor. This is shown by the camera moving to Taco, the dancing man with a glowing cane, who is dancing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most recited line is, If you re blue and you don t know where to go to why don t you go where fashion sits . This is a reference to the bored and depressed wealthy who were practically begging for ways to spend their money. The parties and extravengence to the extent of Gatsby, can be linked back to this desire of expenditure. The words referring to fashion are talking about how the rich of the time loved to display their wealth, the utmost fashion, to the poor. The next most restated line is, Dressed up like a million dollar trooper Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper Super duper . The first words mean that the wealthy in their expensive clothes are promoting their class, as a soldier exhibits his country through a uniform. The next words allude to the actor Gary Cooper who was popular around the time Irving Berlin was writing the song. Continuing to the rest of the chorus, the lines reference the expensive clothes that the wealthy would like to display. Different types of wear all day coat pants With stripes and cutaway coats for perfect fits . These types of clothes were relativity new during the period and also with the requirement they had to be custom tailored, were ludicrously expensive. Come let s mix where Rockefellers Walk with sticks or umbrellas in their mits . The reference to the wealthy Rockefeller family shows the interactions between the elite was only to show off one s wealth. Moreover, during the time canes and umbrellas, while they do serve a purpose, were only trinkets and again representations of the owner s wealth. • 3. The Importance Of Learning English Language In this article, Karmos and Csizér illustrate the way acquisition of language in different age gaps through incentive to learn English language as a second form of communication. The study offers a description of learning English in three different learner populations in Hungary. The population included university students, secondary school students, and adults. The researchers used questionnaires that were given to the population of the study to evoke their feeling on learning the second language so that they could understand the difference between the acquisitions of English as their second language. Reason why the study/article was needed The article was needed so that we can understand the impact of motivation on the different group in a society in acquiring or rather their ability and interest in learning new things. In this case, the article offers the insight on the kind of motivation different aged people requires or has an interest in for learning a new language. It is through the various age groups that we came to know that young secondary students are impacted by attitude and desire along with anxiety to be the first one to learn the language. The research was needed to understand the effects that are associated with learning a second language and the type of motivation the different age group requires to be in a position to learn a language. Dickens Creation of a Picture of Nineteenth Century School in Nicholas Nickleby This essay demonstrates how Charles Dickens, the author of the novel Nicholas Nickleby creates an image of the 19th century school Dotheby s Hall School for Boys. Also I will be discussing the conditions of the school, the description of the boys and the protagonists (Mr. Squeers, Smike and Nicholas.) In the 19th century the rich students were treated pleasantly because they had the money to pay the school however the poor students were treated harshly. Also, in the 19th century there was no social service so the teachers could do as they wished to the students. When Dickens was writing this novel, conditions in ... This portrays that the children are not being given any medicine for any wounds. Dickens is trying to make the reader create a picture that makes them feel repentant for the boys. However, Dickens shows the character Mr. and Mrs. Squeers as the symbol of evil and violence in this novel. Mr. Squeers has power in the beginning of the story but through the extent of the novel he looses the power to Nicholas Nickleby and the children gain hope from Nicholas Nickleby. For example administering a cut with the cane . This examines that Mr. Squeers has the power to do what ever he wishes to the children. Mr. Squeers looses his power over the children at the end for example beat the ruffian till he roared for mercy . This studies how Mr. Squeers is weakened by one man. Nickleby also uses violence to gain power over Mr. Squeers Nickelby uses violence for the right reason. The character Nickleby is shown to be nice, mature and understanding. • 5. The Narrator In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily The narrator plays a key role in the development of the plot and meaning of a story. A Rose for Emily, by William Faulkner, tells the story of Miss Emily Grierson and her mysterious, isolated life. The narrator of the story, who never reveals their identity, presents the story in a unique way; using a slight combination of first and third person points of view. Although hard to identify, the narrator at some points does and does not include themselves in the information they are sharing with the readers. To start, the author narrates using this style to keep the readers wondering and interested. In addition, Faulkner wishes to portray Emily as a sympathetic character. Also, the narrator communicates the story in a manner similar to the way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Faulkner achieves this by revealing details about her, not about what happens to her in life, towards the end of the story. Emily went through many tragic events throughout her life, but why she acts a certain remains a secret. An example of when the narrator wants to make the readers feel sympathy towards Emily is when her father s death comes up. The narrator reveals this at the beginning, so her following actions do not seem bizarre. Once her father dies, she insists that he is not dead and does not want them to take his body away from her. The narrator says, We did not say she was crazy then. We believed she had to do that (Faulkner 153). The readers interpret that the narrator experiences affection for Emily and admires her, as her behaviours never come off as peculiar. Faulkner uses the narrator to provide outside observations to the readers. If the story had a different point of view, for example, Emily s point of view, the readers would not be receiving the information in a way that would help understand her situation. The narrator provides foreshadowing, We did not say she was crazy then (Faulkner 153). The word then indicates that the citizens did not see her as crazy before; but once they discover more information they realize that something is definitely not right. In conclusion, the narrator tells the story out of order to make the readers sympathetic towards Miss Emily so they have the ability to connect with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will refer to the side that is for firearms as the pro gun side and antigun side for those who oppose firearms. In this paper I will discuss how firearms affect our lives here in America. I will inform you what a firearm is and how they are used. I will discuss whether owning a firearm is ever morally permissible. I hope that by the end of this paper that you will be able make your own decision on this topic and join the side that you think is right. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you do not believe me that if the government ban assault rifles that people could still get them then just look at drugs they are illegal but people are still able to buy them and use them. One of the antigun side arguments is that we should out outlaw all assault rifles because they are automatic therefore they are too dangerous and could end up in the wrong hands. Pro gun side say that if we start banning all assault rifles when does it stop next we will be banning pistols because they are automatic. The pro gun side is using the slippery slope agreement stating that by banning one set of guns will eventually ban all guns. The antigun side making a benefits argument stating that if these guns were banned they could not end up in the wrong and less massacres would happen. The pro gun side argues that the second amendment states that we have the right to bear arms. That if we were to ban guns that we would infringe our rights. The antigun gun side claims that by having limiting guns will not infringe on anyone s right that it will only make our lives safer. They also say that assault rifles do not belong in civilian hands, that they belong only on the battlefields. These two arguments go back and forth all the time. • 7. Discrimination And Sexism In The Movie Hidden Figures The movie Hidden figures is based on a true story of three opinionated Negro women and their onerous journey towards success. Together they did everything in their power to fight against discrimination and prove that women are just as capable as men. The trio played an essential role in the launch of the astronaut John glenn into space, as well as orchestrating his return and landing. The movie showcases what can be done in the face of adversity, and what can happen the walls of discrimination and sexism are knocked down. The protagonist, Katherine, is first introduced to us as a child who is exceedingly smart for her age and is solving problems that even adults would never dream of attempting. Much to her teachers delightment, the screens show Katharine hard at work, chalk in hand, scribbling away on the blackboard. It is mentioned early on in the movie that Katherine can calculate any numbers you put in front of her; there isn t a problem out there she is incapable of solving. She takes pride in informing people, when they underestimate her, that she was the first Negro female student at West Virginia university graduate school. Katherine constantly displays diligence with everything she does and dedicates all her efforts and most of her time towards her job. To me, It is not at all surprising that her outstanding talent for calculating complex math problems and her perspicacious mind landed her a high ranked job at NASA and led to her making history. • 8. The Architects Of Their Own Downfall Please excuse the cliché here, but architects are; the architects of their own downfall. August Schmarsow likens the role of the architect as similar to a conductor in an orchestra. The conductors of space . A quite romantic notion, but why has the trust diminished between client and architect? In the UK, for example, most clients are now seeking developers rather than employ an architect. To which there is certain logic, why employ an external body who will not only cost more, but may start to deploy their own ideas onto the scheme? Surely the client calls the shots because of their larger wallet? Here in lies the problem. Developers, Town Planners and Surveyors are all number based professions, a series of calculations dictating spatial qualities and aesthetic appeal. How many bedrooms can we fit in, what is the cost of the project, what kind of profits can we make? All questions that the client will be more than content with when dealing with said professions. The architect is seen as the rebel of the building profession; forever pushing limits to design, aesthetics, engineering and spatial quality. The architect brings a unique quality to the design team, a consideration for all aspects. Be that of scale, cost, materiality, spatial, detailing, servicing, romantics, social implications, theoretical aspirations. The list goes on and on. But this is the point; it is this wide consideration that makes the architect a disposable and superfluous piece of the design ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Class Divisions In The Turn Of The Screw In The Turn of the Screw, Henry James employs class divisions through clothing, representing how the characters are inclined to act through their degree of conformity to societal expectations. First published in 1898, by Collier s Weekly, a magazine company that had a reputation of reporting on integral societal events and topics people considered important to their lives, the magazine commissioned the help of famous writers to write on pressing historical events of the time (Elduff). It grew to be one of the most widely read magazines in the United States by 1892, which allowed James to write a novella that hit on concerns regarding social mobility on a larger scale platform. Since the Victorian era was marked by prosperity and innovations in technology, incomes rose leading to the growing of the middle class. This had a drastic impact on the culture and the elites who feared the middle class movement for they had many reasons for resenting their practical stigmatization as second class citizens (Best 238). James highlights this concern through pointing out clothing which denotes which class a characters associated with and coupling this with immoral actions of the times. • 10. Significance Of The Mustard Seed Parable Significance of the Growing Seed and Mustard Seed Parables The growing and mustard seed parables expound upon the soils parable provided earlier in the book of Mark. Once the suitability of the soils is described, the human and divine roles in the process of growing the kingdom of God are interpreted. Subsequently the inevitable harvest and abundant growth of the kingdom of God is depicted. Human Responsibility As described in the growing seed parable, the sower has no divine identity in the text. This is evidenced with the use of the term used, man , and the activity, or the lack of activity, by the sower after the seed is spread upon the ground. The sower is described as sleeping during the night and displays no activity during the day toward the seed (4:27). The lack of divine identity of the sower is also evidenced with the provision that as the seed begins to grow, he himself does not know how (4:27). It is not logical to argue that an omniscient God would not understand how a seed would grow. Notwithstanding, it is logical to determine that a human sower does not ... Though at the time of the parable being taught the kingdom would seem minuscule to the small rag tag group of disciples, inevitably the kingdom would grow to a glorious stature with the climax arriving at Christ s second coming when the kingdom surpasses all others in power, glory, and majesty . The mustard seed displays the small beginnings of the kingdom, something the disciples being taught by Jesus would recognize, into the picture of the inevitable eschatological victory of ... • 14. Dinitrogen Research Paper A catalytic route to ammonia from dinitrogen has been one of the most intensively researched areas of chemistry in the last 50 years. Nitrogen gas constitutes 78% of Earth s atmosphere, and is easily accessed through the fractional distillation of air. Despite this enormous potential for use as a chemical feedstock to synthesize ammonia, the inert nature of elemental nitrogen makes it extremely difficult for most practical purposes. Currently, ammonia is synthesized via the Haber Bosch process, which uses nitrogen, hydrogen, and an iron catalyst at an excess of 200 °C and 300 atm. The enormous energy demands of this process consume approximately 2% of the world s annual energy supply. Despite this high cost, the Haber Bosch process has been invaluable as a chemical process over the last century because it has solely allowed the agricultural industry to keep up with the rising food demand of the modern world by enabling the large scale production of nitrogen based fertilizers. Still, a more efficient route to ammonia would remove a huge burden from the worlds energy supply. Despite our struggles to efficiently reduce dinitrogen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The leaders that hold our sub hand receipts will be a mixed bag: some will be great at accounting for their property; some will not. Yet we are still curious. There is something about artmaking that draws us to it but it seems so foreign to our own lives. We want to know more about these seemingly special people who can accomplish these unique things. We can t help but conflate the two. The artist and the work. Well, to some extent, an artist s work is always about the artist. How can it be otherwise, since they have no other source but themselves? When we look or hear art, we only see and hear artist, because that is all we can see it s all we have to work with. The problem with art is, because we love it so much, we put the artists who created it on pedestals and we believe they cannot fail because, in some corner of our mind, we ve formed a relationship with them and their product, and for us to discover them as imperfect shatters the illusion. We have made a god in our mind where there is only a human, as flawed and imperfect as ourselves, but what that piece of art they created gave us, in that moment in time, was pure love, joy and satisfaction. God as Trinity was established by the dogma of the ancient Church and defends the central faith of the Bible and the Church (Grenz). The Christian doctrine of the Trinity states that there is One God who is three divine persons; the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I will describe how the early Christian church came to its understanding of God as Three in One. Although the Bible does not clearly teach the Trinitarian view of God, it (Erickson) does provide an understanding of God as Three in One. In order for Alfred to keep peace and defeat the Danes, he had to win many major battles. On Easter Sunday 878, when King Alfred withdrew into the Isle of Athelney, there was every likelihood that before the end of the year Wessex would have been divided out among the members of the Danish army. King Alfred made sure that Wessex would escape that fate. Although Alfred did lose a major battle against the Danes only four years ago, he overcame them in 878 when he won the Battle of Edington. Alfred showed strong resistance by constantly engaging Danish raiding parties from his base in Athelney. After nearly seven weeks of strong battles, Alfred was able to begin defeating the Danes (Stenton 253). Along with Alfred s idea of coercing a recalcitrant peasantry, he had other ways of defeating the Danes as well. Alfred began building warships in order to develop a navy. The ships in which Alfred built were twice as long as those which they were intended to meet (Stenton 253). These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Oil embargo in 1973 by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Companies (OPEC) focuses attention on the energy crisis and results in increased demand for coal as a preferred alternative to oil in the United States Europe, and much of the rest of the world [Speight 2013]. At that time there were a large number of oil power plants in the world which had suddenly become very expensive to operate led to the introduction of larger coal fired power plants [Jeffs 2010]. While Middle East countries which has the largest proven reserves of crude oil; fuel oil as well as crude oil are an available and economically feasible fuel in power and water desalination plants (Fig 1). • 32. Small Cap Diaphragm In the recording session, listening to all the tracks, I chose two different microphones from the MXL 800 series the large and the small caps diaphragm. Both microphones were condenser microphones. Listening to both microphones at the track I discovered few interesting facts between them. First, I mange to listen to the smaller cap both on the recorded hammer part of the piano and the recorded strings and I find that both microphone had different sound. For the small cap that was recorded on the hammer of the piano sound decent yet it sounded little muddy. It sounded like when it had an insert plug in of a chorus or modulation that when the key was stroked the sound was aggressively vibrating, the piano s sustain was little aggressive Picturing if there was a lot of sound waves combined together. Also it sounded as if the piano was played in a small room which the sound sounded much tied. Next, the smaller cap on string recording, sounded much more balanced. It sounded tied yet the every note on the piano sounded realistic. Moreover, the dynamic range was wide enough that it was easy to listen to especially it had good amount of bass and harmonics of the piano. The microphone sound more open rather than narrow sound like the hammered one. On the larger cap diaphragm condenser microphone on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 The Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) was enacted to safeguard against those acts of persons which are aimed at making tainted money appear as untainted. To take a simple example, if a person earns money through, say, dealing in narcotic drugs and thereafter takes some steps whereby it appears to have been earned through some legitimate business, such as running a laundry shop (the classic example), it is money laundering . Thus, the ingredients of the Act are clear: there has to be an offence, monies have to be earned through such offence and then an act should be made delinking such earnings from the offence and linking it with another act that is not an offence . • 35. Management Information Systems and Creating a Successful... Management Information Systems Recommendations Report For Fictitious Company Globally, retailing is witnessing epic transformations. The use of technology has fueled upheavals in the retail landscape that are revolutionary in scope, and unprecedented in nature (Leventon, Gupta Magal, 2011). Technology has advanced from the automation of structured processes to systems that are truly revolutionary in that they introduce change into the fundamental business procedures, workflow and management of an organization. Numerous studies have shown that the employment of new or the updating of a business s existing technology contributes to a firm s competitive advantage, which in turn creates greater value for the customer (Altshuler, Gelb Henry, 2010; Bharadwaj, 2000; Carr, 2003; Mellville, Kraemer, Ghurbaxani, 2004). • 36. Social Construct On Gender Roles Essay Ailyn V. Gutierrez Romanes Professor Hussein Elali ENC 1101 5 December 2016 Social Construct on Gender Roles Social constructs are ideas that are created by societies that are not representations of reality. Usually ideas that are socially constructed are seen as the norm because they have prevailed within societies for several years. These ideas have developed as generations have passed them on and as societies have become more liberal. Social constructs can range from various topics but, in gender roles social constructs have caused a significant impact because these ideas dictate what is wrong and what is right for men and women to do. The rules that societies have created for each gender have been modified over the years, but they have affected the decisions that each person makes and has led to disagreements when something out of the norm is done. The reason that some of these ideas have changed over time is because family dynamics have changed, education is more accessible and societies have become more advanced. As societies and communities developed they began to transform family dynamics. The socially constructed idea of gender that was originally created for the family was that the men had to work and the women had to stay at home and take care of household chores. These ideas were constructed base on past societies and communities but in today s societies it is an idea that happens but rarely because societies today are constructed differently. This was a demanding job in which Bach composed canatas for the St. Thomas and St. Nicholas churches, conduct the choirs, oversee the musical activities of numerous municipal churches, and teach Latin in the St. Thomas choir school. Bach remained at his post in Leipzig until his death in 1750. Although he excelled his forbears and contemporaries, he did not receive the respect he deserved until after his death. Bach is now regarded as one of the greatest composers of all composers and is a source of inspiration for musicians. While Bach s musical career centered around Germany, Antonio Vivaldi was the son of a professional violinist whose musical career cantered in Italy. Born on March 4, 1678, Vivaldi was a virtuoso violinist and composer whose works included over 500 concertos. Vivaldi s output was enormous. It is said that he invented ritornello form. If he did not invent this, he was the first to use this technique. In 1703, Vivaldi began an on and off relationship with the Ospedale della Pieta, a home for the female offspring of noblemen and their mistresses. Vivaldi remained working this post for much of his life. He did, however, take leave to compose many of his famous operas such as Ottone in villa, his first opera. • 40. Victorian Women s Role During The Victorian House During the Victorian period, women had a very specific role to play in society. They had very little influence on the public sphere, only men were to deal with business and political issues. Women were restrained to the private sphere, and were supposed to take care of the house, and of their beloved. The phrase the angel in the house was used to describe their duty. Obviously, this applies to women of a certain rank, mostly those belonging to the middle class. Working class women soon had to leave home and work in order to help feed their family. The novel genre was only emerging at the time, and thus many women characters started to be portrayed by many different authors, many of which described them as much more complex than the vision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women at that time were supposed to take good care of their family and of their house. They had to be good, gentle, caring and motherly. Margaret does behave in that way, she takes care of her parents when they all come to live in Milton in the way that every daughter is supposed to. However, she does not only look after them, but she actually takes care of almost everything regarding their lives. In a sense, she acts like her father should, but he is somehow too weak to do so. For instance, Margaret is the one organising the moving from Helstone to Milton in the very beginning of the novel after her father asked her to: Do what you think best. (p. 56). This could appear as quite a burdensome responsibility for a young woman like Margaret, and many other women of her age would not have been able to do it. This is even more evident thereafter in the story. Right after her mother has passed away, Margaret does not have time to mourn, for she must already arrange the funeral and take care of her brother and father: The father and brother depended upon her; while they were giving way to grief, she must be working, planning, considering. (p. 302). Once again, this should be her father s role, and yet, Margaret is carrying the burden of taking care of everything. This idea that Margaret takes care of everything instead of her father is even more striking when we put her in contrast with another young girl of her age, her cousin Edith who epitomises the ideal Victorian lady. Margaret and Edith grew up together, yet their lives completely differ when Edith gets married to Captain Lennox. While Margaret is a confident, nearly self sufficient woman who must take care of everything, Edith, once she gets married, appears as a passive shallow young girl, relying on her husband and on her ...
