Examples Of Superheroes
Superheroes When I was 11 years old, I read comics on superheroes and enjoyed the way when they
would rescue people even when those people didn t know their heroes identities. I d always thought to
myself, What was the purpose of superheroes and what do they do? Then I later realized that
superheroes help save the world and people who are in need of help. These books and comics of
superheroes had changed both my perspective and definition of superheroes. Some superheroes are
just ordinary people, who are willing to perform helpful acts to others. Being a hero is about
performing helpful acts that help people without a desire of a reward, sacrificing their lives to save
others, and making positive changes in someone else s or your life. Heroes stand up for what s right by
performing services that helps people. People that perform good deeds are considered heroes. As a
matter of fact, according to the text, What Makes a Hero , First, it s performed in service to others in
need whether that s a person, group, or community or in defense of certain ... Show more content on

People who most of the time sacrifice their life shows bravery, which is an important factor to being a
hero. For example, according to the article, What does a hero look like? Not what you think , A hero
can be brave and willing to sacrifice his or her own life, but I think we all have a hero in us someone
who is unselfish and without want of a reward, who is determined to help others (Gibson,
https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au). This quote states that a hero sacrifices his or her own life to help
others in need, which shows that the hero is fearless. Not only that, but the hero would show that they
won t really care about themselves, but only fulfilling the needs of others rather than themselves.
Therefore, being a hero is showing fearlessness by sacrificing their own

Dr. Stevin Gehrke s Lab
Upon arriving as a student at the University of Kansas, I immediately took an interest in numerous
extracurricular activities and organizations. I have established myself as a leader in multiple
organizations, including my role as vice president in the Biomedical Engineering Society at KU.
These organizations have provided fantastic experiences, but I found myself needing more. I found
enjoyment and success in my classes, but I was eager to apply my knowledge. I sought out positions
in various research groups on campus, and I eventually pursued an opportunity to partake in
undergraduate research involving hydrogels and their characteristics in Dr. Stevin Gehrke s lab. In this
lab, I create and characterize various polymer based hydrogels by way of click chemistry using
multiple crosslink wavelengths and times as well as varying concentrations of different monomers,
polymers, and photoinitiators. I perform mechanical assessments that include measurement of
swelling degrees and compression testing to determine various moduli for characterization of gels.
These assessments are performed to determine the most suitable gels for biomedical uses such as cell
encapsulation and drug delivery. It has been the first real opportunity I ve had to utilize my passion
and skills for important and relevant advancements in the scientific community. I have learned the
importance of laboratory safety and have implemented these practices. I have further developed basic
skills that are necessary

Smirnov Vodka Empire in The King of Vodka
Although the King of Vodka concerns itself with a different time period and a distant land, the history
of founding and eventual disintegration of the Smirnov Vodka Empire seems resonant in today s
business environment. The famous brand was built in one of the most tumultuous periods in Russian
history, yet the founder had struggled with many of the same business problems we see today.
In 1831, Pyotr A. Smirnov was born to illiterate Russian serfs in a village so remote that walking at
night required clanking metal sticks together to scare off the wolves hidden in the forest. Smirnov
spent his childhood during one of Russia s worst cholera epidemics. However, vodka was his ticket
out of this peasant life. Settling in Moscow during the reforms that began with emancipation, his
genius grassroots marketing popularized his products and established his brand. His life became one
of privilege. His ascent would have continued uninterrupted had it not been for a series of devastating
labor strikes, social uprisings, and a government imposed vodka monopoly. Ultimately, the Smirnov
lost it all, as victims of the Bolshevik revolution and the chaos it unleashed.
Fortunately for Smirnov, his family was ambitious. The success of uncle Grigoriy who made enough
money to buy his own freedom inspired a young Pyotr to move to Moscow and pursue his own
liberation. It was from Grigoriy that Pyotr was inducted into the world of entrepreneurship. Smirnov s
story is one of fierce

Kant And Kant s Universal Law Essay
Does Kant successfully establish that one must never under any circumstances or for any purpose tell
a lie?
In this essay, I will argue that Immanuel Kant fails to successfully establish lying as morally
impermissible because the claim that lying is morally impermissible goes against common sense.
Kant defines his Universal Law to demonstrate the necessary action one must take in order to act in a
way that is morally permissible and uses it in support of his belief that one s motive is the sole
determinant of the moral worth of his actions. He uses the Universal Law Theorem to determine
whether it should be morally permissible to lie in any occasion, and consistently reaches the
conclusion that is it not (Kant Paton, 2005). However, let us consider an example situation: An elderly
woman is awoken during the night to pounding on the door from a handful of children claiming to
have just escaped the captivity of a pedophile in the neighbourhood. She immediately takes the
children into her home, promising to keep them safe for the night. Before she has the chance to
contact the authorities and their parents, she hears the sounds of a man raging outside, screaming
about lost children. The woman answers the door calmly, claiming to have just been awoken and
scolds the younger man for being so rowdy, sternly telling him she has not seen any children and
encouraging him to return home before she contacts the authorities.

Reducing and Eliminating Industrial Farms Essay
Industrial farm pollution is becoming a large problem, which is why our country should result to
organic farming. Many of today s farms are in an industrial factory rather than a nice green pasture.
These farms are looking to maximize profits and produce high quantities of food, which could
potentially be a good thing, in some certain cases, but not in this one. The industrial farms have no
concern for human health or the environment. They raise many health, environmental, and pesticide
issues, which all can be resolved with the act of organic farming. Many health issues come along with
industrial farming. Many chemicals used in agriculture are highly toxic to humans if precautions are
not taken. The toxicity of a chemical is its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unsanitary conditions in the factory farms are causing high levels of meat contamination (Ziggy). This
is a result of foodborne illnesses such as, Salmonella and Norovirus. The Center for Disease Control
estimates that each year roughly 1 in 6 Americans gets sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die of
foodborne diseases (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). Industrial agriculture operations are
striving to maximize their production and profit, with putting no importance on the safety and quality
of their food. Factory farming also shows no disregards to human health. Industrial farms also provoke
many environmental issues. The practices of Industrial Agriculture are harmful when it comes to
waste management. Since they have such a large amount of animals in one area is un natural, the
waste becomes uncontrollable. For instance, a swine produces about 17.5 pounds of waste each day
(Loehr 26). Put 1,000 hogs together, and that s six million pounds of waste each year. On a factory
farm containing 35,000 hogs, over four million pounds of waste are produced each week and over 200
million pounds each year. Whereas on a sustainable farm animal waste can be a tool, in factory farm
amounts it becomes a major pollutant (Sustainable Versus Industrial). All the waste that is produced
has an enormous impact on the environment. The air, water, and soil are affected in the area around
the factory farms. The manure can be beneficial in some cases, but not

ALICE MUNRO S THE ALBANIAN VIRGIN IN OPEN SECRETS EXEMPLIES HER
CHARACTERISTIC APPROACH To try to trace Alice Munro s narrative techniques to any particular
development in the short story The Albanian Virgin would be difficult. This could be because it is
simply written from careful observations as are many of her other short stories. In her short stories, it
is as though she tries to transform a common, ordinary world into something that is unsettling and
mysterious as was seen in Vandals. Most of her stories found in Open Secrets, are set or focused on
Munro s native Canada, Huron County, and particularly in the small fictional Ontario town of
Carstairs, although the setting in The Albanian Virgin is in British Columbia. The ... Show more

Munro offers us (the reader) a bouquet of stories in one: the narrator s escape from and longing for
both lover and husband; Charlotte and her husband Gjurdhi, who are somewhere between threats,
exemplars of surviving love and pathos (as Munro s late middle aged couples often are); the adventure
of Lottar and the Franciscan priest who helps her escape from what is both new home and prison; the
antagonistic mating dance between the bookstore owner and her new, odd friends, Charlotte and
Gjurdhi. (Bloom 1995) The change from one character s point of view or narrative to another is
changing the setting and mood of the story. The narrator is indirectly portraying her as they both
moved to British Columbia and opened a bookstore. It is like telling the story of three individuals with
relation to her own life. When Munro was asked once in an interview as to why she used both first and
third person, her reply was it allows you to move around a bit more, and it allows you to say things
about other characters (MacKendrick, 24). Munro s use of stories is one of her many forms of
conforming the different narratives and points of view together. She tells the story the way that she
sees it forming and lets the reader figure it out for themselves. In this story, the reader has to first
realize that the main story is not on the bookstore owner, but on Charlotte, the woman

Regional Differences Between New England And The...
Despite the population of settlers in New England and the Chesapeake region being mostly English
emigrants, the regions evolved very differently. The difference in development between New England
and the Chesapeake region occurred as a result of the differences in economies, religious views, and
senses of unity. One cause for the differences between the regions was the differences in economies.
In New England, the land of the settlements was divided more fairly, with everyone getting a fitting
size of land and a share of the planting grounds and meadows (Doc D). Prices of goods also tended to
be more fair in New England. There, tradesmen and laborers were expected to price products
reasonably in order to avoid making their neighbors poor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The New England settlers believed that it was important to have unity among themselves and work
together and help each other to survive and establish a life in the settlements (Doc A). Tradesmen were
expected not to impoverish each other due to overpriced products. The more fair split of property and
agricultural land was also a display of the sense of economic unity in New England (Doc D). The
importance of fair pricing and distribution of property to New England settlers showed their sense of
unity through the economy as they believed that economic unity was necessary to the success of the
settlements. The New England settlers also valued religious unity as well. The structure of the towns
around churches contributed to the theocracy of the settlements, uniting those with the the same
Puritan views. Alternatively, the Chesapeake region lacked the same economic unity. With the drastic
differences between the upper and lower classes, the lower class was overcharged for any products,
thus separating the classes instead of uniting them (Doc F). This economic inequality led to Bacon s
Rebellion, in which farmers rebelled against Governor Berkeley as a result of the unfair classes and
taxes. New England settlements had more economic and religious unity, unlike the settlements in the
Chesapeake region who lacked economic

The Education System Of Education Essay
There s a lot going on in today s society from the election, roads, taxes, even killer clowns. I m going
to talk about today s education system. Since the education being taught in the schools is for the
generations to come. People need education to have a stable life in this country, to get a good job, and
to support themselves financially. Therefore, are need to improve education overall.
First, the students being taught in the classes are based on technology. We already know how
technology is carrying how students perform in education. But in education today kids and students
are surrounded by it. When I was elementary or even middle school there was no such thing as an Ipad
or a Chromebook. The school board is making students feel like it s a necessity to have in class
everyday. I see kids at the age of 6 or 7 asking for their Ipad or chromebook for homework. I ask
myself is this really how the school board wants to teach the future generation of students? Students
are so used to using PowerPoint and Word at such a young age.
Secondly, the lack of teachers and the lack of people who want to be teachers is creating problems.
Teachers have been going on strike in different committees in the US. The most this class would know
about is how Mchenry high schools teachers went on strike. We don t pay our teachers enough for
what they do. The teachers in the US barely make enough to live a nice live. Overall I think we should
pay teachers as much as doctors because a doctor

HR should be defined not by what it does, but by what it delivers.
DAVID ULRICH
Human Resource (HR) management
The design of formal systems in an organization to ensure the effective and efficient use of human
talent to accomplish the organizational goals.
As human resources have become viewed as more critical to organizational success, many
organizations have realized that it is the people in an organization that can provide a competitive
advantage.2 Throughout the book it will be emphasized that the people as human resources contribute
to and affect the competitive success of the organization. Human Resource (HR) management deals
with the design of formal systems in an organization to ensure the effective and efficient use of human
talent to accomplish organizational goals. In an organization, the management of human resources
means that they must be recruited, compensated, trained, and developed.

French Indian War Essay
The French and Indian War
The French and Indian war raged from 1754 to 1763. Its roots began long before the first shot was
fired, about 100 years before between the French and the English. The French and Indian War was not
fought between the French and the Indians, but the two allied with the Canadians against the English.
It was the catalyst for the Seven Years War, from 1756 1763, which was brought over into Europe, the
Carnatic Wars, and it eventually lead to the American Revolution.
By the late 1600 s to the beginning of the 1700 s, the colonization of the America s by the English had
been reaping great rewards. The English controlled much of the eastern seaboard, and were highly

This was soon to be an act of war since England and France were at peace. The French tricked Major
Washington into signing a letter written in French, which stated that Major Washington assassinated
the 10 Frenchmen and attacked the rest.
The always present Indian problem added to England s decision to send two regiments of troops to
protect the colonizers. When the French heard word of this they too sent several regiments of troops to
protect the frontiersmen and settlers in their territory in New France. Peace talks in England soon
began between the French. The commander of France s troops was Baron de Dieskau who was under
orders to defend New France and not to instigate any attack. The English sent General Braddock with
a larger force than Major Washington to make war with the French on the frontier. The French being
well aware of their surroundings, made good use of it while ambushing the English as they marched in
columns toward the French to attack Fort Duqesne. The French certainly got the upper hand in this
attack, killing many of the English soldiers and causing the to retreat. The English never faught in a
gorilla warfare manner, but in columns and rows often facing musket and cannon fire. While the
French sent troops over to the Americas, the English had 11 war ships waiting for the French to arrive.
Not knowing if the French and the English were at war or not, the French pulled along side of the
English Dunkirk and asked. The English Dunkirk

Averrhoa Carambola Essay
OSMOTIC DEHYDRATION OF STARFRUIT
Averrhoa carambola
INTRODUCTION
Star fruit, botanically called as Carambola, is a star shaped tropical fruit with sweet and sour flavor.
Malayan peninsula native Carambola is cultivated in many parts of Southeast Asia, Pacific Islands and
China for its fruits. Eventhough, abundant and plentiful, carambola is yet to gain popularity, especially
in the western world.
Scientific name: Averrhoa carambola. The genus Averrhoa includes two well known sorrels
(Oxalidaceae) family of fruiting trees, carambola.
Star fruit is a small, bushy evergreen tree that grows very well under hot, humid, tropical conditions.
The plant bears small lilac colored, bell shaped flowers in clusters which subsequently develop into
oblong shaped fruits with characteristic five angled edges (sides or ribs) that appear like a starfish in
cross sections. Both sweet and sour varieties begin to yield under cultivable orchards, and ready for
harvesting when the plants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

flat light brown seeds about a width of 6 to 13 mm (0.25 to 0.5 in) and it is enclosed in gelatinous aril.
Once removed from the fruit, they became inactive within a few days.[2]
Carambola fruit features light green to yellow with attractive ,smooth, waxy surface and weighs about
70 130g. Inside, it s crispy, and juicy pulp can either be mildly sweet or extremely sour depending
upon the type and amount of oxalic acid concentration. In some seed varieties, 2 5 tiny edible seeds

Abstract This paper proposes direct torque control of induction motor simulation using conventional
method and space vector pulse width modulation technique for ripple reduction. Direct Torque Control
is a control technique used in AC drive systems to obtain high performance torque control and thereby
controlling the speed of induction motor. The principle is based on simultaneous decoupling of stator
flux and electromagnetic torque of AC drive system. DTC drives use hysteresis comparators and they
suffer from high torque ripple and variable switching frequency problem. The proposed SVM based
DTC reduces torque ripples. The basis of the SVM DTC methodology is the calculation of the
required voltage space vector to compensate the flux and torque errors and its generation using the
SVM at each sample period. The performance of this method is demonstrated by simulation using
MATLAB/Simulink software. Simulation results presented in this paper show the torque, flux linkage
and stator current ripple decreases with the proposed SVM DTC algorithm. Keywords: Direct Torque

Use a chromatic tuner is relatively easy. Plug the guitar tuner using a standard guitar cable like you are

Starting with the E (thickest string guitar) hit the rope and adjust the grip of the rope tuning peg until

The use of an electronic tuner is the best way to find the right tone, which eventually became part of

ready to start learning to tune by ear.
The notes are focused on standards E (thicker string) A, D, G, B, and (thinnest string). When naming
the notes always starts in the thickest string, and ends with the thinnest. If you play the thickest string
open, make a note E. If you played next to open, you can make a note A.

Hometown Morning By Thomas Kinkade
In 2000, Thomas Kinkade, the Painter of Light, created Hometown Morning, which is an oil painting
on canvas. This painting is part of the Hometown Memories collection as he paints different scenes
from his childhood growing up. Hometown Morning is a painting of a street in Placerville, California
that is full of life. It is a small community with people walking down the sidewalk and everyone and
everything just seems peaceful. Since the original has been sold, the last location of the painting was
at The Thomas Kinkade Museum in Monterey, California. The use of melancholic colors are shown as
it is a dim setting as the sun begins to rise over the city street. However, the only vibrant color used
throughout the piece is a bright gold yellow to illuminate the insides of the homes through the
windows. Kinkade s use of complementary colors are visible throughout. Different shades of yellow
and blue are seen as there is yellow in the sky and also blue on the street. There are more cold colors
than warm colors since the setting is in the morning and during the winter after it has rained. The
people are dressed in winter clothes and some even have scarves on. Kinkade uses directional line to
direct our attention to what is going on as our eyes go down the street. There is not an actual diagonal
line that makes the road smaller, but the use of grass and the sidewalks does the trick. The people in
the foreground are headed down the street leading the viewer s eyes head the same

The Beliefs Of Anne Hutchinson And The Puritans
When we look back in time to the 17th century, we often like to think about how the new world began,
and how it successfully developed into more colonies and expanded the way it did. A major aspect of
the colonies and the development of the world we know today was religion, which that time, caused
turmoil among people such as the Puritans. Because of this turmoil, many puritan societies had
traveled to the new world in Massachusetts Bay in order to stop being persecuted by the Church of
England. In Massachusetts Bay, they were able to teach and spread their religion freely without the
fear of persecution. However, with so much freedom, the Puritan society had become so obsessed with
their religion, that they started to make people attend church every day so that people could be saved
from going to hell. Because of this forced stance on religion, people often felt the need to speak up
about the situation, and when one particular woman voiced her beliefs of the religion, there was a
major crisis for the Puritans. This woman was Anne Hutchinson.
Anne Hutchinson, an American religious reformer, was born as Anne Marbury on July 20, 1591, in
Alford, Lincolnshire, England. Anne Hutchinson was the daughter of Francis Marbury and Bridget
Dryden. Her father, Francis Marbury was an active Presbyterian who thought that the majority of
ministers in the Church of England were leading their listeners to hell because of their inadequate
preaching and their adherence to rituals. Anne

There Are Three Lines To Live In The Labyrinth
Notwithstanding, in the same text (we could, of course, quote many others), there is also evidence of
an acquaintance with the pre socratic unity of opposites (later adapted by Nicolau of Cusa to the idea
of God), by means of which a straight line is potentially no different from a circular line (plus, a
formulation that is also reminiscent of Zeno s Paradoxes of Motion):
There are three lines too many in your labyrinth, he said at last. I know of a Greek labyrinth that is but
one straight line. So many philosophers have been lost upon that line that a mere detective might be
pardoned if he became lost as well. When you hunt me down in another avatar of our lives, Scharlach,
I suggest that you fake (or commit) one crime at A, a second crime at B, eight kilometers from A, then
a third crime at C, four kilometers from A and B and halfway between them. Then wait for me at D,
two kilometers from A and C, once again halfway between them. Kill me at D, as you are about to kill
me at Triste le Roy.

Addiction isn t necessarily viewed as severe but it can be, it can also lead to a person s death. People
all over the world either have some sort of addiction or they know someone who does. Addiction isn t
limited to drugs, alcohol or shopping, it can be anything. People who suffer from addiction tend to
lose themselves both mentally and physically, they tend to become more dependent on their addiction,
they no longer have a mind of their own or control over their own body or impulses. Addiction isn t

All the family members resent each other for their misfortunes and deal with their sadness by escaping
in their addictions (drugs, alcoholism). The scene portrays patterns of denial, blame, anger and
bitterness that are typical in families affected by addiction. Family members take it not just to feel
better but to escape pain, which then affects parts of the brain related to coping, emotional regulation
and judgment. So this makes the family dysfunctional in relation to each other, and they escape into
the drug even more to cope. It s a vicious cycle. According to Kathleen Carroll, PhD, a psychiatry

Daniel Williams Interrogated
Four U.S navy sailors were accused of murdering and raping Michelle Moore Bosko. All four of them
confessed of a crime they did not commit. A friend of Michelle Moore Bosko informed the police that
Danial Williams was interested in killing women (Bikel, 2010) . Later in the day, Danial Williams was

that he wanted Williams to confess. Though, Glenn Ford was known as an intimidating person, who
will get people to confess (Bikel, 2010).After eleven hours of interrogations, Williams confessed of a
crime he did not do (Bikel, 2010). He was then asked to tell the story of how he murdered Michelle,
and he started narrating a story he made up out of fear. For Months, Ford believed that Williams was
guilty of the crime. However, months later, Williams DNA test results came to serve as an evidence of
his innocent. However, Glenn Ford did not believe that Williams was innocent; he believed that
Williams roommate Joe Dick was guilty of the crime as well. Therefore, Joe Dick was arrested and

Prayers For The Stolen Character Analysis
Prayers for the stolen Character Review The novel prayers for the stolen by Jennifer Clement is about
the lifestyle of girls leaving in a place called Guerrero, Mexico, where the drug lords are treated like
kings, young girls taken away from their mothers at any time and not having a father to protect them
because they all ran away to the United States or other places to seek a better life. An illumination

makes everybody s life measurable and what they do to survive. I believe Rita and Ladydi did their
best to protect themselves from the gangsters of Guerrero. And keep them safe for instance Rita

be in Guerrero, Mexico is an ugly girl, (1) Ladydi says. When her mother sprayed her neck with her

Karl Marx s Theory And Explanation Of Society
Karl Marx was a 19th century philosopher who wished to understand the great social and economic
changes brought about by the industrial revolution. Marx sought a scientific understanding of society
as he believed it would allow for an explanation of long term social change the likes of which he
himself was experiencing at the time (Giddens Sutton, 2013). Central to his theory is the idea that
class conflict is a major driving force in the progression of history (Giddens Sutton, 2013). This
theoretical perspective is sometimes referred to as historical materialism, however it may be more
appropriate to refer to it as a materialist conception of history (Giddens Sutton, 2013). This essay will
firstly seek to define what a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Strongly opposed to materialism is the theory idealism. Idealism states that the historical development
of societies is primarily driven by the circulation of abstract ideas and ideals, such as democracy
(Giddens Sutton, 2013). And so from this it can be said that materialism is the belief that all aspects of
society and to a wider degree the world, are simply the product of a time and a place or specific events
that have occurred. This materialist interpretation of the world can then be used when examining Marx
s view of history in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of it. Karl Marx s conception
of human history was fundamentally different from those put forward by previous social and
philosophical thinkers. Marx developed this view of history by taking inspiration from Hegel s
concept of the dialectical nature of the human existence (O Connor, 1999). However, as Marx noted
my dialectic method is not only different from the Hegelian, but is its direct opposite (Marx, 1967:
19). The key idea presented for the materialist view of history is empirical, with real people in real
socially organized and symbolically mediated material activities (O Connor, 1999). Material activity
can be considered both a

The United States Is The Only Industrialized Country...
Currently, the United States is the only industrialized country without a statute requiring all employers
to provide some kind of paid time off for its employees to care for a newborn or a sick loved one. Data
gathered from 38 member countries of the Organization for Economic Co operation and Development
(OECD) support this claim. Figure 1 shows the member countries and the length of maternity leave
provided to all employees. The graph details only the averages. Maternity leave provisions can include
2 to 30 weeks paid at 100% of the employee s salary and an additional leave that can be as long as 52
weeks at 90% of the salary, or less in other countries. The OECD calculated the average paid
maternity leave in the member countries to be 17 weeks, with an average payment rate of about 78%.
There are 17 countries providing above average paid maternity leave benefits, including industrialized
economies like the United Kingdom, Denmark, Finland, and Italy. On top of maternity leave, most
OECD members also have an additional paid parental and home care leave available only to mothers.
The organization summarizes this benefit in Figure 2 which shows that its average for the 38 member
countries is about 37 weeks, with an average payout of 45% of the employee s original earnings. The
United States, with only FMLA for a legislation, falls way below the average for all categories with 0
weeks of guaranteed paid leave. In addition to the maternity and other paid leave for mothers,

Potential Therapeutics For Treating Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Bromophenols have been identified as potential therapeutics for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus
(T2DM) due to their suspected tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) inhibitory activity. A new series of
bromophenol analogues will be synthesised and their PTP1B inhibitory activity will be tested in in
vitro enzymatic assays to elucidate their mechanism of action as PTP1B inhibitors.
Background and Introduction
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disease that is caused by insulin resistance of the
peripheral tissues and impaired insulin secretion of the pancreatic β cells.1 Both conditions result in
reduced glycemic control, which can lead to hyperglycemia. Despite the availability of a wide range
of anti diabetic drugs to treat T2DM, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bromophenols have attracted much attention as potential PTP1B inhibitors due to their suspected anti
diabetic activity.4 Bromophenols occur naturally in marine organisms such as algae, mollusks and
jellyfish. (±) Polysiphenol (1, figure 1) is an example of a bromophenol that can be extracted from the
marine algae Polisiphonia Ferulecea.5 After the Braddock group successfully achieved the first total
synthesis of (±) polysiphenol and the separation of its enantiomers, they collaborated with the
Woscholski group to test their inhibitory activity in PTP1B enzymatic assays.6,7 Both enantiomers of
polysiphenol were essentially found to be identical in PTP1B inhibitory activity. Thus polysiphenol, as
single enantiomers, cannot be responsible for the observed inhibition. This implicates a chemical
change of polysiphenol into a non chiral form is likely to take place under the conditions of the assay.
One possibility is the formation of a para quinone methide species (4, figure 1), which in turn can
tautomerise into an ortho quinone methide species (5, figure 1). Thus there are various possible
reactive species that might be responsible for the observed inhibition of PTP1B. The formation of
quinones highlights a red flag in drug discovery due to their highly reactive nature. Quinones are
Michael acceptors that are known to cause toxicity in vivo by covalently binding to nucleophilic sites
on proteins and DNA.8 Consequently, quinones

Firstly, Accountability is the pillar of good governance, but it is absolutely clear that DOD Nuclear
projects are far from being accountable. Then comes Transparency . These projects are run by the tax
payers dollars, yet no one knows where and how the funds are being allocated. There is no regulatory
body that is asking questions and thus leaving it vague and questionable. When it comes to
Responsiveness we find these programs quasi responsive. Given the fact the number of funds are put
on here, this is certainly a weak point of these projects. From all the statistics we found out so far, we
can see that these programs need very deep pockets to operate and they are not inclusive in nature;
plus, in order to run these projects with highest level of secrecy DOD and the other departments has to
take drastic measures. Whether these Programs are equitable ; very hard to say it is. There is a BIG
question mark of the effectiveness and the efficiency of these programs. Many people support nuclear
weapons because of their effective function as deterrents and their capability to preserve the balance
and order in the world. The main defence for nuclear weapons comes from the idea that they are
acting as deterrents. When we analyse these projects as a portrait of good governance model, we

The Court Of The Insanity Defense
The standard for the insanity defense arose in the British courts in 1834 when a woodturner named
Daniel M Naghten shot and killed the secretary of England s Prime Minister. The insanity defense is a
difficult, but occasionally successful defense system in a court of law. The law varies from state to
state however, the idea remains the same. The defense allows a small number of defendants to get out
of a crime if they are deemed legally insane. Only being approximately 180 years old, the insanity
defense allows a defendant to plead not guilty based in their mental state at the time of the crime, the
lawyer to run tests to determine their mental state, and a select number of notorious criminals to
abstain from being incarcerated.
The not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, a defendant may be forced to remain in the hospital for longer than their jail sentence would
have been if their mental illness is severe enough.
In cases where a defendant has committed the crimes in question but is clearly mentally ill, a guilty
but mentally ill verdict is used. The guilty but mentally ill verdict acknowledges when a defendant s
mental illness played a large role in a crime without causing it. A guilty but mentally ill defendant is
sentenced in the same way as if the defendant were guilty, then the court decides whether the
defendant requires treatment for their mental illness. One criticism of the guilty but mentally ill
verdict is that, given the level of mental health resources in prisons and jails, it is not very likely a
defendant will actually receive relevant treatment while incarcerated.
In all cases, insanity is determined by two different groups of tests: cognitive and volitional. Cognitive
impairment is centered around a defendants basic understanding of right and wrong. There is
controversy as to whether the legal standard for insanity should be based only on the cognitive
impairments or whether volitional impairments should also be allowed (National Paralegal College).
Volitional impairment is centered on the defendants ability to control their behavior and avoid
committing acts they know to be wrong. An example of a cognitive test is

Similarities Between Samurai And American Knights
European Knights and Japanese Samurai Warriors The medieval time era, was one of many wars,
across almost every continent. From this two skilled and famous breeds of men formed. They are
known as the medieval knights of Europe and the feudal Samurai warriors of Japan. Both groups of
warriors had many similarities, but also their unique qualities. The following will examine some of
this common and not so common aspects. To begin, the classes of the two warriors are very similar.
Both existed in a society that followed a feudal system. In Europe the King would grant lords land in
exchange for loyalty. The lords would then grant knights land or safe haven in exchange for their
loyalty in battle. When war loomed on the horizon the knights were expected to answer the call and
defend the lord s property. Like wise in Japan the Shogun would grant lords land and the lords would

training by becoming a squire to a lord. They would learn from the lord and train in the arts of

C. Community policing was brought to New York City.
Police had to maintain their assertion. Rights were misconceived only for the rich people. Their

started in neighborhoods they surveyed the streets without performing law action. Citizens were
comforted with the calm and strict society. The second concept that rose was the vigilante. Back then
there were three hundred fifty vigilante groups. Fortunately, vigilante groups have detained and are a
scarce subject today. They just wanted to ensure that crime does not happen like suspects say will not

Stay Out of Our Lives!
December 1, 2012 Stay Out of Our Lives! Why is it that when gods and goddesses have affairs with us
mere mortals and nymphs it leads to our tragedies! There are so many stories about a god or goddess
falling for a mortal or nymph and then another god or goddess gets jealous or interferes with them and
then the poor mortal gets cursed or gets ditched! But out of all these stories none are more tragic then
the ones where Zeus cheats on his wife Hera, who then out of jealousy curses the poor women! Hera
is known for being revengeful on those who interfere with her marriage to Zeus. But what she doesn t
see is that most of the time the poor girl was just a victim. Unless you re Echo; she did deserve her
punishment, and you will see why. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now if Narcissus had just let Echo explain by writing it down or something then they could have
fallen in love, gotten married, and so on. And Narcissus wouldn t have refused Echo because she
would have been able to talk to him and get to know him. Echo would have been able to talk if Hera
hadn t cursed her. And Hera wouldn t have cursed her if Zeus had just been faithful! In another version
of this story Echo was still the beautiful nymph with an amazing voice. She lived deep in the woods
and, denied the love of any mortal or god. She attracted the god, Pan, but, who she turned down like
all the others. Pan was so angry he sent his shepherds to kill Echo by tearing her apart and spreading
her pieces far, and wide. Gaea received the pieces and scattered them so Echo s voice, and talents,
could be heard everywhere (Pontikis). Now it s a different version of the story but it s the same thing
Pan messed with Echo s life, and because of that it all ended in her doom. So as I ve been saying over,
and over again, if those selfish gods would just stay out of our love lives then none of this would have
ever happened. Half of the Greek tragedy stories would have never existed. Now this story also tells
us other things about the Greek myths for many of the gods judge our moral actions like Hera does.

Summary Of The Feminine Mystique
In the The Feminine Mystique, by Betty Friedan, the author begins to question the problem that has no
name, which is, Why are American housewives so unhappy with their supposedly perfect lives ?
Friedan concludes that the reason American housewives are so depressed is that of, the feminine
mystique, society s idea that women s sole purpose in life is to bring pleasure to a man, be a housewife
and mother, but nothing more. In the 50 s and 60 s, all American women had been told their whole
lives is that they shouldn t get a job or follow their dreams, but find a well off husband and start a
family. Now that they have accomplished this, women want more in life than just waiting on their
family, because of the feeling that they are just going through the motions of life. However, society
does not allow women to grow to their full potential and brainwashes the mystique into women s
heads by painting the housewife image as an ideal in women s magazines, ads, signs, etc.
Furthermore, because the mystique is so influential, women not only damage themselves, but their
husbands and children; Women begin to seek their fulfillment through too much sexual intercourse,
which drives the husband away, and is so involved in their children s lives, that they grow up to be
whiny, mother dependent adults. In the end, women finally begin to not only question the feminine
mystique but act against it. Moreover, throughout the story, Friedan s style uses conflict development

Block Study Hall Importance
Study Halls are a very useful time period for high school students. Throughout my four years of high
school, study halls have helped my grades greatly. They allow for students to complete more
homework in school rather than having to do it at home where there are more distractions. Study Halls
time, however, can differ from one person to the next. At my school we have a four block schedule,
meaning you could have a study hall any given block. Having a study hall first block on any given day
is more beneficial for a student than having a last block study hall. In a first block Study Hall, students
are more prone to get more work done than in a last block Study Hall. At least for me, in the mornings

The Elimination of Natural Theology Essay
The Elimination of Natural Theology
ABSTRACT: The dispute between fideists and rationalists seems intractable since those who argue for
faith alone claim that they are offended by the use of reason in religion. The advocates of reason claim
that they are equally offended by the appeal to faith. This dispute may be resolved by showing that
those who rely on faith may be seen as engaging in an experiment of living, so they can become part
of a rational experiment without having to alter their practice; in contrast, those who use reason to
justify religion can be seen as addressing a spiritual need. From an evangelical point of view, it would
be wrong to disparage the mathematician s use of the mathematical proof of God s existence (such ...

Jamesian conditions=we have, with good reason, a right to believe more than is justified by the
received canons of rationality Butlerian conditions = (i) for all practical purposes, it is sufficient to
reply to objections to religion; it is not necessary to provide positive arguments. (ii) for all practical
purposes, it is sufficient to provide probabilistic arguments, it is not necessary to provide
demonstrative arguments. integrative rationalism = consider religion an integral part of the whole
enterprise of rational inquiry and accept the following:
(A) All claims with religious content and all religiously motivated actions and practices are subject to
the same kind of rational scrutiny and evaluation as any other claim or form of behavior i.e., the
religious and the secular are at parity as far as the jurisdiction of reason is concerned. By contrast,
pure fideists reject (A) without comment; ratiocinative fideists reject (A) but attempt to explain their
rejection, and conditional rationalists refuse to accept (A) until the kind of rational scrutiny to which
religion is to be subjected is spelled out.
The Controversy
Discovering the right relationship between faith and reason matters as much as finding the right
religion matters, yet the conflict seems irresolvable. Rationalists and fideists can both claim legitimate
descent in the history of religion, but the essence of one view seems categorically unacceptable to the
other.

Serenna Rodriguez Character Analysis
Jenna Rodriguez is not a Jennifer, Jenny Ann, or even a Jenny. On Jenna Rodriguez s birth certificate,
it is only Jenna. The variations of the longer form of Jenna seem somehow uncharacteristic of the true
character of Jenna Rodriguez and her parents seemed to understand that when they named her.
Although it is difficult to understand, Jenna s name seems perfectly fitting for who she is. Perhaps it is
the characteristics of who she is that make her name fit perfectly into place with who she is, especially
from the perspective of a new friend like myself. Jenna Serene Rodriguez was raised in the small town
of Conrad, Montana. Conrad is about two hours north of Helena and has a population of around 3000.

Ebola Virus Disease Epidemic Summary
The airline restrictions harmed West Africa s already fragile government by hampering the flow of aid
and trade. The Analysis of the West African Ebola Virus Disease Epidemic shines a light on the need
for reform in the Global Health System by emphasizing the failures of the government officials and
organizations. Unity opens many opportunities for a stronger government as Friedman and Gostin
emphasized in their article. Friedman and Gostin argue that the government failed to unity by saying
states imposed travel restrictions and quarantines contrary to the demands of WHO and the United
Nations (UN), hindering the response of aid and travel, but critics would argue that every state has
their own security interest that are seen as safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unity between all agencies and governments will allow for everyone s voice to be heard. Group
compromise and discussion is possible when all systems are working together for a common goal;
such as, overcoming an epidemic. Forming a strong framework requires accountable leaders to work
constructively with other organizations as equal partners. When organizations unite, leaders are held
responsible for their global practices, motivating action rather than hesitation. Accountable leaders are
essential in a strong government because they take action and motivate change. When a government
has weak leaders, actions are postponed and hesitation causes delays in funding, education, and
volunteers. Civil groups, along with other non governmental organizations, need their opinions heard.
Uniting together all forces, not only creates a stronger, trusting bond between countries, but also
creates an unstoppable fighting force against epidemics. In the article, Gostin and Friedman
acknowledged the contributions a non governmental agency, Médecins Sans Frontiéres, made to help
control the raging epidemic. A representative of Médecins Sans Frontiéres said without accountable
leaders there is no one to take responsibility which is what he claims to be a major issue in the Ebola
crisis (1904). Other government agencies; such as, Human Resources and the United

Andrew
Mrs. K
It was a beautiful spring morning in Mound City Missouri. The population was only around 1,000
people. Andrew and I were up bright and early before the peak of dawn. The forecast looked sunny
with a touch of fog. We were busy at the hotel preparing for our first morning of the hunt. Andrew don
t forget the snacks and Mountain Dew like you did last year, I hinted. With a chuckle, Andrew said, I
won t this time, and you make sure we got the shotguns, and shells packed. We can t forget those.
Both of us had our stuff together and headed outside to the truck. They made sure they had everything
and were off on our 20 minute drive to the field. We got out and unpacked. We both laid down the
blinds and set up the decoys. At last, we were on the hunt of our dreams. We ... Show more content on

Thank you doctor! we had both yelped.
I had said to Andrew, Well Andrew let s go back on our trip and have some fun.
We had left the hospital around 5 am just in time to get to the field. We started off the day, and we shot
a lot of geese that morning. We shot 197 snow geese on the trip. We were at the hotel on Monday
morning, and we were eating breakfast when we saw what the forecast was on the news. There was
supposed to be a really bad snow storm, but we blew it off, and we started our trip home around noon.
We were about an hour into the trip and the snow storm hit. It was blizzard conditions, and the wind
started to pick up, and before long the wind was howling! We had to stay at a hotel in Maryville.
I blew up at Andrew, Why did we have to go we could have just stayed in Mound City!
Sorry!, I didn t no it was going to get this bad, Andrew said.

Biblical Allusions to The Grapes of Wrath Essay example
Biblical Allusions to The Grapes of Wrath
John Steinbeck was born in Salinas, California, on February 27, 1902. He studied marine biology at
Stanford University and then traveled east on a freighter through the Panama Canal. Steinbeck went to
New York to work as a newspaper reporter but soon returned to California and held a variety of jobs
while he wrote. Steinbeck published Tortilla Flat in 1935, Of Mice and Men in 1937, and The Red
Pony in 1937, which established his reputation as a forceful writer. In 1939 he wrote The Grapes of
Wrath, which summoned up the despair and hardship of the early 1930 s. John Steinbeck died in 1968.

Above all it showed everyone that these damn Okies were all simply men, women, and children, no
different from anyone else, just poorer (Frohock 133). They were human beings with feelings and not
the uncivilized beasts they were portrayed as at the time. John Steinbeck carefully molded his story
The Grapes of Wrath to encompass many themes and ideas. To help enforce his message Steinbeck
included several Biblical allusions. John Steinbeck uses Biblical allusions to create the theme that
strength to survive comes from faith by using characters and events. Steinbeck creates the theme of
the novel by alluding the characters in his story to characters in the Bible. Jim Casy is an allusion to
Jesus Christ. They have the same initials and live their lives as examples of their beliefs: Jesus to the
world as Casy is to Tom (Rombold 149). Casy even compares himself to Christ when he says, I got
tired like Him, an I got mixed up like Him, an I went into the wilderness like Him, without no campin
stuff (105). In the first half of the book Casy is thinking and forming his ideas. He changes from a
thinker to a man of action when he sacrifices himself for Tom (Slade 242). When in prison Casy sees
the advantage of organizing people to achieve a common goal. When Casy tried to put his ideas into
action he, like Christ, aroused the antagonism of the people in authority and was brutally killed. He
died, like Christ saying to his crucifiers,

  • 2. Examples Of Superheroes Superheroes When I was 11 years old, I read comics on superheroes and enjoyed the way when they would rescue people even when those people didn t know their heroes identities. I d always thought to myself, What was the purpose of superheroes and what do they do? Then I later realized that superheroes help save the world and people who are in need of help. These books and comics of superheroes had changed both my perspective and definition of superheroes. Some superheroes are just ordinary people, who are willing to perform helpful acts to others. Being a hero is about performing helpful acts that help people without a desire of a reward, sacrificing their lives to save others, and making positive changes in someone else s or your life. Heroes stand up for what s right by performing services that helps people. People that perform good deeds are considered heroes. I have established myself as a leader in multiple organizations, including my role as vice president in the Biomedical Engineering Society at KU. These organizations have provided fantastic experiences, but I found myself needing more. I found enjoyment and success in my classes, but I was eager to apply my knowledge. I sought out positions in various research groups on campus, and I eventually pursued an opportunity to partake in undergraduate research involving hydrogels and their characteristics in Dr. Stevin Gehrke s lab. In this lab, I create and characterize various polymer based hydrogels by way of click chemistry using multiple crosslink wavelengths and times as well as varying concentrations of different monomers, polymers, and photoinitiators. I perform mechanical assessments that include measurement of swelling degrees and compression testing to determine various moduli for characterization of gels. These assessments are performed to determine the most suitable gels for biomedical uses such as cell encapsulation and drug delivery. It has been the first real opportunity I ve had to utilize my passion and skills for important and relevant advancements in the scientific community. • 4. Smirnov Vodka Empire in The King of Vodka Although the King of Vodka concerns itself with a different time period and a distant land, the history of founding and eventual disintegration of the Smirnov Vodka Empire seems resonant in today s business environment. The famous brand was built in one of the most tumultuous periods in Russian history, yet the founder had struggled with many of the same business problems we see today. In 1831, Pyotr A. Smirnov was born to illiterate Russian serfs in a village so remote that walking at night required clanking metal sticks together to scare off the wolves hidden in the forest. Smirnov spent his childhood during one of Russia s worst cholera epidemics. However, vodka was his ticket out of this peasant life. Settling in Moscow during the reforms that began with emancipation, his genius grassroots marketing popularized his products and established his brand. His life became one of privilege. His ascent would have continued uninterrupted had it not been for a series of devastating labor strikes, social uprisings, and a government imposed vodka monopoly. Ultimately, the Smirnov lost it all, as victims of the Bolshevik revolution and the chaos it unleashed. Fortunately for Smirnov, his family was ambitious. The success of uncle Grigoriy who made enough money to buy his own freedom inspired a young Pyotr to move to Moscow and pursue his own liberation. It was from Grigoriy that Pyotr was inducted into the world of entrepreneurship. Smirnov s story is one of fierce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Kant And Kant s Universal Law Essay Does Kant successfully establish that one must never under any circumstances or for any purpose tell a lie? In this essay, I will argue that Immanuel Kant fails to successfully establish lying as morally impermissible because the claim that lying is morally impermissible goes against common sense. Kant defines his Universal Law to demonstrate the necessary action one must take in order to act in a way that is morally permissible and uses it in support of his belief that one s motive is the sole determinant of the moral worth of his actions. He uses the Universal Law Theorem to determine whether it should be morally permissible to lie in any occasion, and consistently reaches the conclusion that is it not (Kant Paton, 2005). However, let us consider an example situation: An elderly woman is awoken during the night to pounding on the door from a handful of children claiming to have just escaped the captivity of a pedophile in the neighbourhood. She immediately takes the children into her home, promising to keep them safe for the night. Before she has the chance to contact the authorities and their parents, she hears the sounds of a man raging outside, screaming about lost children. The woman answers the door calmly, claiming to have just been awoken and scolds the younger man for being so rowdy, sternly telling him she has not seen any children and encouraging him to return home before she contacts the authorities. Many of today s farms are in an industrial factory rather than a nice green pasture. These farms are looking to maximize profits and produce high quantities of food, which could potentially be a good thing, in some certain cases, but not in this one. The industrial farms have no concern for human health or the environment. They raise many health, environmental, and pesticide issues, which all can be resolved with the act of organic farming. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unsanitary conditions in the factory farms are causing high levels of meat contamination (Ziggy). This is a result of foodborne illnesses such as, Salmonella and Norovirus. The Center for Disease Control estimates that each year roughly 1 in 6 Americans gets sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die of foodborne diseases (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). Industrial agriculture operations are striving to maximize their production and profit, with putting no importance on the safety and quality of their food. Factory farming also shows no disregards to human health. Industrial farms also provoke many environmental issues. The practices of Industrial Agriculture are harmful when it comes to waste management. Since they have such a large amount of animals in one area is un natural, the waste becomes uncontrollable. For instance, a swine produces about 17.5 pounds of waste each day (Loehr 26). Put 1,000 hogs together, and that s six million pounds of waste each year. On a factory farm containing 35,000 hogs, over four million pounds of waste are produced each week and over 200 million pounds each year. Whereas on a sustainable farm animal waste can be a tool, in factory farm amounts it becomes a major pollutant (Sustainable Versus Industrial). All the waste that is produced has an enormous impact on the environment. The air, water, and soil are affected in the area around the factory farms. Alice Munro Open Secrets the a ALICE MUNRO S THE ALBANIAN VIRGIN IN OPEN SECRETS EXEMPLIES HER CHARACTERISTIC APPROACH To try to trace Alice Munro s narrative techniques to any particular development in the short story The Albanian Virgin would be difficult. This could be because it is simply written from careful observations as are many of her other short stories. In her short stories, it is as though she tries to transform a common, ordinary world into something that is unsettling and mysterious as was seen in Vandals. Most of her stories found in Open Secrets, are set or focused on Munro s native Canada, Huron County, and particularly in the small fictional Ontario town of Carstairs, although the setting in The Albanian Virgin is in British Columbia. Munro offers us (the reader) a bouquet of stories in one: the narrator s escape from and longing for both lover and husband; Charlotte and her husband Gjurdhi, who are somewhere between threats, exemplars of surviving love and pathos (as Munro s late middle aged couples often are); the adventure of Lottar and the Franciscan priest who helps her escape from what is both new home and prison; the antagonistic mating dance between the bookstore owner and her new, odd friends, Charlotte and Gjurdhi. (Bloom 1995) The change from one character s point of view or narrative to another is changing the setting and mood of the story. The narrator is indirectly portraying her as they both moved to British Columbia and opened a bookstore. It is like telling the story of three individuals with relation to her own life. When Munro was asked once in an interview as to why she used both first and third person, her reply was it allows you to move around a bit more, and it allows you to say things about other characters (MacKendrick, 24). Munro s use of stories is one of her many forms of conforming the different narratives and points of view together. She tells the story the way that she sees it forming and lets the reader figure it out for themselves. • 10. Regional Differences Between New England And The... Despite the population of settlers in New England and the Chesapeake region being mostly English emigrants, the regions evolved very differently. The difference in development between New England and the Chesapeake region occurred as a result of the differences in economies, religious views, and senses of unity. One cause for the differences between the regions was the differences in economies. In New England, the land of the settlements was divided more fairly, with everyone getting a fitting size of land and a share of the planting grounds and meadows (Doc D). Prices of goods also tended to be more fair in New England. There, tradesmen and laborers were expected to price products reasonably in order to avoid making their neighbors poor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The New England settlers believed that it was important to have unity among themselves and work together and help each other to survive and establish a life in the settlements (Doc A). Tradesmen were expected not to impoverish each other due to overpriced products. The more fair split of property and agricultural land was also a display of the sense of economic unity in New England (Doc D). The importance of fair pricing and distribution of property to New England settlers showed their sense of unity through the economy as they believed that economic unity was necessary to the success of the settlements. The New England settlers also valued religious unity as well. The structure of the towns around churches contributed to the theocracy of the settlements, uniting those with the the same Puritan views. Alternatively, the Chesapeake region lacked the same economic unity. With the drastic differences between the upper and lower classes, the lower class was overcharged for any products, thus separating the classes instead of uniting them (Doc F). This economic inequality led to Bacon s Rebellion, in which farmers rebelled against Governor Berkeley as a result of the unfair classes and taxes. • 11. The Education System Of Education Essay There s a lot going on in today s society from the election, roads, taxes, even killer clowns. I m going to talk about today s education system. Since the education being taught in the schools is for the generations to come. People need education to have a stable life in this country, to get a good job, and to support themselves financially. Therefore, are need to improve education overall. First, the students being taught in the classes are based on technology. We already know how technology is carrying how students perform in education. But in education today kids and students are surrounded by it. When I was elementary or even middle school there was no such thing as an Ipad or a Chromebook. The school board is making students feel like it s a necessity to have in class everyday. I see kids at the age of 6 or 7 asking for their Ipad or chromebook for homework. I ask myself is this really how the school board wants to teach the future generation of students? Students are so used to using PowerPoint and Word at such a young age. Secondly, the lack of teachers and the lack of people who want to be teachers is creating problems. Teachers have been going on strike in different committees in the US. The most this class would know about is how Mchenry high schools teachers went on strike. We don t pay our teachers enough for what they do. The teachers in the US barely make enough to live a nice live. Overall I think we should pay teachers as much as doctors because a doctor ... Its roots began long before the first shot was fired, about 100 years before between the French and the English. The French and Indian War was not fought between the French and the Indians, but the two allied with the Canadians against the English. It was the catalyst for the Seven Years War, from 1756 1763, which was brought over into Europe, the Carnatic Wars, and it eventually lead to the American Revolution. The French tricked Major Washington into signing a letter written in French, which stated that Major Washington assassinated the 10 Frenchmen and attacked the rest. The always present Indian problem added to England s decision to send two regiments of troops to protect the colonizers. When the French heard word of this they too sent several regiments of troops to protect the frontiersmen and settlers in their territory in New France. Peace talks in England soon began between the French. The commander of France s troops was Baron de Dieskau who was under orders to defend New France and not to instigate any attack. The English sent General Braddock with a larger force than Major Washington to make war with the French on the frontier. The French being well aware of their surroundings, made good use of it while ambushing the English as they marched in columns toward the French to attack Fort Duqesne. The French certainly got the upper hand in this attack, killing many of the English soldiers and causing the to retreat. Direct torque control of induction motor simulation using conventional method and space vector pulse width modulation Naveen chander PG Student Electrical Engineering NITTTR Chandigarh, India snl.naveen@gmail.com Dr. Lini Mathew Associate Professor Electrical Engineering NITTTR Chandigarh, India Dr. S. Chatterji Professor Head Electrical Engineering NITTTR Chandigarh, India Abstract This paper proposes direct torque control of induction motor simulation using conventional method and space vector pulse width modulation technique for ripple reduction. Direct Torque Control is a control technique used in AC drive systems to obtain high performance torque control and thereby controlling the speed of induction motor. The principle is based on simultaneous decoupling of stator flux and electromagnetic torque of AC drive system. DTC drives use hysteresis comparators and they suffer from high torque ripple and variable switching frequency problem. The proposed SVM based DTC reduces torque ripples. The basis of the SVM DTC methodology is the calculation of the required voltage space vector to compensate the flux and torque errors and its generation using the SVM at each sample period. The performance of this method is demonstrated by simulation using MATLAB/Simulink software. Simulation results presented in this paper show the torque, flux linkage and stator current ripple decreases with the proposed SVM DTC algorithm. It is a small community with people walking down the sidewalk and everyone and everything just seems peaceful. Since the original has been sold, the last location of the painting was at The Thomas Kinkade Museum in Monterey, California. The use of melancholic colors are shown as it is a dim setting as the sun begins to rise over the city street. However, the only vibrant color used throughout the piece is a bright gold yellow to illuminate the insides of the homes through the windows. Kinkade s use of complementary colors are visible throughout. Different shades of yellow and blue are seen as there is yellow in the sky and also blue on the street. There are more cold colors than warm colors since the setting is in the morning and during the winter after it has rained. The people are dressed in winter clothes and some even have scarves on. Kinkade uses directional line to direct our attention to what is going on as our eyes go down the street. There is not an actual diagonal line that makes the road smaller, but the use of grass and the sidewalks does the trick. The people in the foreground are headed down the street leading the viewer s eyes head the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. The Beliefs Of Anne Hutchinson And The Puritans When we look back in time to the 17th century, we often like to think about how the new world began, and how it successfully developed into more colonies and expanded the way it did. A major aspect of the colonies and the development of the world we know today was religion, which that time, caused turmoil among people such as the Puritans. Because of this turmoil, many puritan societies had traveled to the new world in Massachusetts Bay in order to stop being persecuted by the Church of England. In Massachusetts Bay, they were able to teach and spread their religion freely without the fear of persecution. However, with so much freedom, the Puritan society had become so obsessed with their religion, that they started to make people attend church every day so that people could be saved from going to hell. Because of this forced stance on religion, people often felt the need to speak up about the situation, and when one particular woman voiced her beliefs of the religion, there was a major crisis for the Puritans. This woman was Anne Hutchinson. Anne Hutchinson, an American religious reformer, was born as Anne Marbury on July 20, 1591, in Alford, Lincolnshire, England. Anne Hutchinson was the daughter of Francis Marbury and Bridget Dryden. Her father, Francis Marbury was an active Presbyterian who thought that the majority of ministers in the Church of England were leading their listeners to hell because of their inadequate preaching and their adherence to rituals. All the family members resent each other for their misfortunes and deal with their sadness by escaping in their addictions (drugs, alcoholism). The scene portrays patterns of denial, blame, anger and bitterness that are typical in families affected by addiction. Family members take it not just to feel better but to escape pain, which then affects parts of the brain related to coping, emotional regulation and judgment. So this makes the family dysfunctional in relation to each other, and they escape into the drug even more to cope. It s a vicious cycle. Karl Marx s Theory And Explanation Of Society Karl Marx was a 19th century philosopher who wished to understand the great social and economic changes brought about by the industrial revolution. Marx sought a scientific understanding of society as he believed it would allow for an explanation of long term social change the likes of which he himself was experiencing at the time (Giddens Sutton, 2013). Central to his theory is the idea that class conflict is a major driving force in the progression of history (Giddens Sutton, 2013). This theoretical perspective is sometimes referred to as historical materialism, however it may be more appropriate to refer to it as a materialist conception of history (Giddens Sutton, 2013). Idealism states that the historical development of societies is primarily driven by the circulation of abstract ideas and ideals, such as democracy (Giddens Sutton, 2013). And so from this it can be said that materialism is the belief that all aspects of society and to a wider degree the world, are simply the product of a time and a place or specific events that have occurred. This materialist interpretation of the world can then be used when examining Marx s view of history in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of it. Karl Marx s conception of human history was fundamentally different from those put forward by previous social and philosophical thinkers. Marx developed this view of history by taking inspiration from Hegel s concept of the dialectical nature of the human existence (O Connor, 1999). However, as Marx noted my dialectic method is not only different from the Hegelian, but is its direct opposite (Marx, 1967: 19). Currently, the United States is the only industrialized country without a statute requiring all employers to provide some kind of paid time off for its employees to care for a newborn or a sick loved one. Data gathered from 38 member countries of the Organization for Economic Co operation and Development (OECD) support this claim. Figure 1 shows the member countries and the length of maternity leave provided to all employees. The graph details only the averages. Maternity leave provisions can include 2 to 30 weeks paid at 100% of the employee s salary and an additional leave that can be as long as 52 weeks at 90% of the salary, or less in other countries. The OECD calculated the average paid maternity leave in the member countries to be 17 weeks, with an average payment rate of about 78%. There are 17 countries providing above average paid maternity leave benefits, including industrialized economies like the United Kingdom, Denmark, Finland, and Italy. On top of maternity leave, most OECD members also have an additional paid parental and home care leave available only to mothers. The organization summarizes this benefit in Figure 2 which shows that its average for the 38 member countries is about 37 weeks, with an average payout of 45% of the employee s original earnings. Bromophenols have attracted much attention as potential PTP1B inhibitors due to their suspected anti diabetic activity.4 Bromophenols occur naturally in marine organisms such as algae, mollusks and jellyfish. (±) Polysiphenol (1, figure 1) is an example of a bromophenol that can be extracted from the marine algae Polisiphonia Ferulecea.5 After the Braddock group successfully achieved the first total synthesis of (±) polysiphenol and the separation of its enantiomers, they collaborated with the Woscholski group to test their inhibitory activity in PTP1B enzymatic assays.6,7 Both enantiomers of polysiphenol were essentially found to be identical in PTP1B inhibitory activity. Thus polysiphenol, as single enantiomers, cannot be responsible for the observed inhibition. This implicates a chemical change of polysiphenol into a non chiral form is likely to take place under the conditions of the assay. One possibility is the formation of a para quinone methide species (4, figure 1), which in turn can tautomerise into an ortho quinone methide species (5, figure 1). Thus there are various possible reactive species that might be responsible for the observed inhibition of PTP1B. The formation of quinones highlights a red flag in drug discovery due to their highly reactive nature. The defense allows a small number of defendants to get out of a crime if they are deemed legally insane. Also, a defendant may be forced to remain in the hospital for longer than their jail sentence would have been if their mental illness is severe enough. In cases where a defendant has committed the crimes in question but is clearly mentally ill, a guilty but mentally ill verdict is used. The guilty but mentally ill verdict acknowledges when a defendant s mental illness played a large role in a crime without causing it. A guilty but mentally ill defendant is sentenced in the same way as if the defendant were guilty, then the court decides whether the defendant requires treatment for their mental illness. One criticism of the guilty but mentally ill verdict is that, given the level of mental health resources in prisons and jails, it is not very likely a defendant will actually receive relevant treatment while incarcerated. In all cases, insanity is determined by two different groups of tests: cognitive and volitional. Cognitive impairment is centered around a defendants basic understanding of right and wrong. There is controversy as to whether the legal standard for insanity should be based only on the cognitive impairments or whether volitional impairments should also be allowed (National Paralegal College). But out of all these stories none are more tragic then the ones where Zeus cheats on his wife Hera, who then out of jealousy curses the poor women! And Hera wouldn t have cursed her if Zeus had just been faithful! In another version of this story Echo was still the beautiful nymph with an amazing voice. She lived deep in the woods and, denied the love of any mortal or god. She attracted the god, Pan, but, who she turned down like all the others. Pan was so angry he sent his shepherds to kill Echo by tearing her apart and spreading her pieces far, and wide. • 40. Summary Of The Feminine Mystique In the The Feminine Mystique, by Betty Friedan, the author begins to question the problem that has no name, which is, Why are American housewives so unhappy with their supposedly perfect lives ? Friedan concludes that the reason American housewives are so depressed is that of, the feminine mystique, society s idea that women s sole purpose in life is to bring pleasure to a man, be a housewife and mother, but nothing more. In the 50 s and 60 s, all American women had been told their whole lives is that they shouldn t get a job or follow their dreams, but find a well off husband and start a family. Now that they have accomplished this, women want more in life than just waiting on their family, because of the feeling that they are just going through the motions of life. However, society does not allow women to grow to their full potential and brainwashes the mystique into women s heads by painting the housewife image as an ideal in women s magazines, ads, signs, etc. Furthermore, because the mystique is so influential, women not only damage themselves, but their husbands and children; Women begin to seek their fulfillment through too much sexual intercourse, which drives the husband away, and is so involved in their children s lives, that they grow up to be whiny, mother dependent adults. In the end, women finally begin to not only question the feminine mystique but act against it. Moreover, throughout the story, Friedan s style uses conflict development and ... • 46. The Elimination of Natural Theology Essay The Elimination of Natural Theology ABSTRACT: The dispute between fideists and rationalists seems intractable since those who argue for faith alone claim that they are offended by the use of reason in religion. The advocates of reason claim that they are equally offended by the appeal to faith. This dispute may be resolved by showing that those who rely on faith may be seen as engaging in an experiment of living, so they can become part of a rational experiment without having to alter their practice; in contrast, those who use reason to justify religion can be seen as addressing a spiritual need. From an evangelical point of view, it would be wrong to disparage the mathematician s use of the mathematical proof of God s existence (such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unity between all agencies and governments will allow for everyone s voice to be heard. Group compromise and discussion is possible when all systems are working together for a common goal; such as, overcoming an epidemic. Forming a strong framework requires accountable leaders to work constructively with other organizations as equal partners. When organizations unite, leaders are held responsible for their global practices, motivating action rather than hesitation. Accountable leaders are essential in a strong government because they take action and motivate change. When a government has weak leaders, actions are postponed and hesitation causes delays in funding, education, and volunteers. Civil groups, along with other non governmental organizations, need their opinions heard. Uniting together all forces, not only creates a stronger, trusting bond between countries, but also creates an unstoppable fighting force against epidemics. In the article, Gostin and Friedman acknowledged the contributions a non governmental agency, Médecins Sans Frontiéres, made to help control the raging epidemic. A representative of Médecins Sans Frontiéres said without accountable leaders there is no one to take responsibility which is what he claims to be a major issue in the Ebola crisis (1904). John Steinbeck carefully molded his story The Grapes of Wrath to encompass many themes and ideas. To help enforce his message Steinbeck included several Biblical allusions. John Steinbeck uses Biblical allusions to create the theme that strength to survive comes from faith by using characters and events. Steinbeck creates the theme of the novel by alluding the characters in his story to characters in the Bible. Jim Casy is an allusion to Jesus Christ. They have the same initials and live their lives as examples of their beliefs: Jesus to the world as Casy is to Tom (Rombold 149). Casy even compares himself to Christ when he says, I got tired like Him, an I got mixed up like Him, an I went into the wilderness like Him, without no campin stuff (105). In the first half of the book Casy is thinking and forming his ideas. He changes from a thinker to a man of action when he sacrifices himself for Tom (Slade 242). When in prison Casy sees the advantage of organizing people to achieve a common goal.
