Reflection Assignment 3
Following Johns Model of Structured Reflection
For this reflective piece I am going to write about a situation I encountered whilst on my community
placement with the district nurse. To write the essay I will be following Johns model of structured
reflection as a basis to structure my reflection around.
Johns Model of Structured Reflection (Johns 1998)
1.Write a description of the experience. Ask yourself:
* What are the significant issues I need to pay attention to?
Whilst on my community placement for one of my initial spokes, I arranged to spend the morning
with the district nurse on her rounds, to gain an insight into her role within the community and find
out first hand exactly what her job entails. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3.Personal: ask your self:
How did I feel in this situation?
What internal factors were influencing me?
During the whole situation from the moment we pulled up out side the house I was very nervous and
wanting to give a good impression only made this worse. Once we had entered the house and met Tom
I calmed down a little. I was surprised at my own reaction of distaste when I entered the house and
encounter a grumpy drunk so early in the morning; I had no prior knowledge of his situation (Claire
later informed me that his wife had recently divorced him and he was having difficulties coping).
When Claire asked me to do the drops I declined, at the time I was annoyed with myself for missing
the opportunity to practice my clinical skills.
4.Ethics: ask yourself:
Did my actions match with my beliefs?
What factors made me act in incongruent ways?
In refection my actions did not match the beliefs I held about myself before coming on community.
From my time on my ward placements I thought I had built up a good professional attitude and could
work my way around difficult situations. What I was not prepared for was how much; the lack of
familiar surroundings would affect my actions and how nervous I felt about giving a good impression
to Claire and the patients.
The main factors that made me act in such a way were, nervousness, lack of confidence and

Energy Security in the Asia Pacific Region
ENERGY SECURITY IN THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION To meet China s fast rising energy demands,
Chinese leaders exerted great effort with a market oriented approach and a state centered approach.
The market oriented approach look for energy safety by better assimilation of national and
international markets ...state intervention would be restricted to the dispersal of data in a multilateral
context, the help of innovation, and, for few management of a strategic oil reserve which would be
applied in case of fleeting supply interruption. In contrast, the state centered approach is based upon
neo mercantilist a thought that relies on bilateral diplomatic contacts with oil producing countries to
strengthen energy security by the use of national resource and state owned enterprise investments in
overseas energy resources and firm control of exports and imports of energy products. Though market
oriented economic change has been the way of post Mao reforms, the market oriented approach has
not increased momentum in the energy division because the Chinese leadership has mull over China s
energy security tactically too significant to be left to market forces alone . Taking over offices in 2002,
President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao decided that securing unwavering supplies of petroleum
and added scare resources was not merely critical to maintained economic development, but also
essential to China s national security . Within 2003, Premier Wen Jiabao made official a seven small

Body Temperature And How It Regulate Homeostasis
In this assignment, I am going to be discussing body temperature in relation to the process of negative
feedback and how it regulates homeostasis.
Carnegie Mellon University (2015) defines homeostasis as the tendency of biological systems to
maintain relatively constant conditions in the internal environment, while continuously interacting
with and adjusting to changes originating within or outside the system.
Homeostasis is continually being disrupted due to the external environment, whether it be the weather
causing the body to overheat/sweat or a blood glucose level dropping due to missing a meal. Luckily,
there are body systems that work together to bring the internal environment back to the right balance.
The nervous system and the endocrine system are linked with the hypothalamus, which is situated in
the centre of the brain it provides the needed corrective measures to ensure the body is back to the
right balance. When homeostasis is maintained, we know that the body is healthy.
The nervous system maintains homeostasis by sending electrical signals known as nerve impulses
where organs can respond to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The control centre sets a range of values within the controlled condition and it should be maintained.
The input is evaluated from the receptor which generates an output. The output is in the form of nerve
impulses/hormones which connects the controlled condition by generating a response in the effector .
The effector receives output from the control centre and produces a response that changes the control
centre. With these components working together, homeostasis is able to be maintained with use of
negative feedback loops and the temperature is set back to normal. Peate and Nair (2015) define
negative feedback as the changes being reversed in any control system, where they are reversed and

Death Penalty Decline
Also offenders aged fifteen and younger at the time of their crimes was unconstitutional ( introduction
to the death penalty ). This shows that there are many factors that prevent a person from getting the
death penalty and these limitations protects them from it. In recent years, the United States numbers of
death sentences are steadily declining from 300 in 1998 to 106 in 2009 ( introduction to the death
penalty ). This shows that the usage of the death penalty is declining and many people are not being
punished with the death penalty. This also shows that the death penalty is still being used in certain
crimes in the United States. This is showing that the death penalty might not be used as much in the
future.

The Themes and Motivations Behind George Orwell s 1984
ABSTRACT Anyone who considers themselves a lover of good fiction must know who George
Orwell is. Anyone who loves good cynical fiction has to have read his master piece, simply titled
1984. 1984 is a phenomenal tale of government gone awry, in its attempts to unify what s left of the
world, after the atomic wars waged in Europe. The story is based on Mr. Orwell s fears of immensely
powerful governments, especially totalitarianism. If you are a true lover and you have read the story,
The next logical question one must ask themselves is, do we understand why he wrote this wonderful
piece of work? Please allow me the opportunity to enlighten you. In order to understand the why; I

While at St. Cyprian s, several key events transpired for Eric. He met Cyril Connolly, who also

The Cause of the Asian Financial Crisis
This is a review of the political reasons that caused the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997. The review is
made on 5 papers by 5 authors on the subject.
Introduction
The Asian Crisis of 1997 and 1998 affected many of the East Asian and South East Asian countries
surprised many. This was due to the fact that in the early and mid 1990s these same countries were
lauded as model economies with high Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Yet within a space of a few
months in mid 1997, the currency crisis become a financial/economic crisis as many of these countries
currencies were greatly devalued resulting in the contraction of their economies. However, the
severity of the Asian Crisis was not uniformly felt.

Due to this, their states were strong for their struggle to industrialize but weak because of the web of
enmeshment; they are semi sovereign states (Cummings, 1999).
The end of the cold war meant that America no longer had to rely so much on Japan and Korea to safe
guard against the advancement of communist in South East Asia. Therefore from early 1990s,
America has pushed for these countries to adopt multilateral economies (i.e. be more open to accept
American goods and investment). However, Japan and Korea were resistant to this new form of
economic policy.
Though no actual action by American was provided in the paper that resulted in the Asian Crisis, the
author does state that the crisis allowed America, through the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to
implement their economic model to Korea. This was done to maintain American s hegemony in Asia,
which before the crisis may have shifted to Japan. That is one of the reasons provided by the author on
why America was firm in its refusal to allow the Asian Fund proposed by Japan to materialise.

Lord Tennyson s The Charge Of The Light Brigade
What makes a soldier? A soldier is someone who takes commands from higher authorities, who can
take on any obstacle that may come their way. A soldier has to be brave, strong willed, hardworking,
and nevertheless willing to die for what they believe in. In The Charge of the Light Brigade , Lord
Alfred Tennyson created a masterpiece of a poem by reliving the events that happened during the
Light Brigade s charge. Lord Alfred Tennyson conveys that the Light Brigade stood firm through their
rigorous battle. During the Crimean War, the Light Brigade was going into battle against Russia. Lord
Tennyson states, Half a league, half a league, / Half a league onward, / All in the valley of Death /
Rode the six hundred (Tennyson lines 1 4). The Light Brigade kept on riding even though they knew
what was to eventually happen. As the war was going on, the Russians apprehended a supply of guns
that had originally been for the British. For instance, Arnold Markley states, From a point high above
Sebastopol, British leader Lord Raglan observed the Russians removing artillery from captured posts
on the Vorontsov heights and sent an order to Lord Lucan that the Light ... Show more content on

that day. Because of the lack of communication between the British armies, the six hundred men
walked right into the Russian military. Lord Tennyson states, someone had blundered / Theirs but to

and got almost half of his army killed off. Without the right information, the leader was not able to do

Colombia Proposing Peace The beauty of Colombia is no match for the darkness that hides inside.
Unable to flourish into a country of prosperity that can showcase what nature has given them but a
place tied to the past with violence. Soon The FARC stepped up to shake not only terror into the
government but also the people of Colombia. They have killed and kidnapped locals, tourists and
government officials for decades now they have begun recruiting children in their ranks. For four
years the FARC have been speaking in negotiations with President Santos over the possibility of peace
for everyone. On October 2nd of this year a little bit of half of Colombians voted for no peace with the
FARC (News). The people didn t want to allow a communist group of individuals who have harmed
families, killed their loved ones and go hand in hand with trafficking into their lives. They have
devoted themselves to violence and become a nuisance to the Colombian government. With the
assassination of the Liberal Party presidential candidate Gaitan, who wanted to make Colombia not
only safe but to help the poor as well, it started a chain of events. Creating 10 years of war and
violence La Violencia but forced the government to take action against the protests and the guerilla

Similarities And Differences Between Van Gogh And Monet
Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet are two highly influential contributors to the art world. Both are
renowned artists whose creations are on display in several art museums throughout the world. They
are two artistic geniuses who are more alike than they appear to be. While there are many similarities
between the lives and art of these two prodigies there are numerous differences as well in their
technique/style, subject matter, and personal lives. Technique and style are two things that an artist
develops in order to define themselves. It acts as a trademark and it is what makes an artist s work
unique. Van Gogh and Monet have incredibly similar techniques and styles, however, it is the
disparities within them that make them distinct. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During his Dutch period, Van Gogh s subject matter was primarily focused on the lifestyle of the poor
and the bible (Dubecky). In his French period, Van Gogh had begun to shift his focus to drawing nude
figures and portraits. Monet, conversely, liked to paint his subject matters in series. He would paint the
same subject at different times of the day in different lights (Brown 1536). Some series that he painted
included water lilies, bridges, and haystacks. Something that Van Gogh and Monet both really took
passion in is basing their art on their life experiences. They both painted their surroundings such as
landscapes, seascapes, and people around them. Van Gogh would also draw still lifes of food and
would paint paintings based on his emotions during his recovered bouts of mental illness. Van Gogh
and Monet had both lived exceptionally different lives. Van Gogh did not start off wanting to become
an artist, he was actually very interested in theology and had eventually become a minister. It had
seemed as though Van Gogh had found his calling. Unfortunately, he was released from the church
after his generosity had betrayed him. While trying to help miners, he gave away all of his clothes and
was only left with a cloth. The church committee overseeing Van Gogh let him go because he did not
dress or preach eloquently. This led to Van Gogh gaining an interest in art which would lead him to go
to an art school in Paris to

Comparing Homer s Iliad With Wolfgang Petersen s Film...
In my response I am going to compare Homer s Iliad with Wolfgang Petersen s film Troy. The points I
am going to compare are the fight between Paris and Menelaus, the role of the gods, the death of
Patroclus and the fight between Hector and Achilles. The Iliad is an epic poem consisting of 23 books
by Homer, which focuses on 50 days in the ninth year of the Trojan War, whereas the movie Troy
directed by Wolfgang Petersen tells the whole 10 year story of the myth. The Trojan War happened in
the Bronze Age and was a war between the Mycenaean Greece kingdom and the kingdom of Troy.
Homers Iliad is believed to be one of the first works of western literature and was set 500 years earlier
than the time in which he lived. The Iliad is to be listened to, not read, unless you are the poet
performing the epic. The poet would chant or sing the Iliad while being accompanied by lyre, to help
tell the story. It had a set rhythm and metre in each line of the poem, which the poet had to follow but
it is lost in translation as its original written language is Ancient Greek. The film Troy was released on
the 14th May 2004 and is loosely based on the Iliad. Brad Pitt, who was 40 years old during the
making of this movie, and stars as Achilles. The ending of the film is not from the Iliad but from Virgil
s Aeneid, as the Iliad ends with Hectors death and funeral.
The Role of the Gods
Throughout the Iliad, gods play an important role and are a focal point. They are always helping out

John Brown African American Abolitionists
John Brown was a radical abolitionist who believed strongly in the equality between all people,
despite skin color or ethnicity. Since childhood, John Brown had been a devout Calvinist, believing
that God wanted all people to be equal. He believed that his purpose on earth was to put an end to
slavery, as seen in the quote he had been predestined to bring an end to slavery, which he believed
with burning certitude was a sin against God . Given the mark he left on America after the
Pottawatomie Creek rebellion, he certainly did just that. John Brown s motives have been questioned
by historians for many years, some believing that he was a freedom fighter, and some believing that he
was a terrorist. Because he used violence to frighten slaveholders, ... Show more content on

His ultimate goal was the creation of an independent black nation (Father of American Terrorism pg
146). John Brown was a strong freedom fighter, in the sense that he was willing to die so African
Americans could be free. Brown believed that he had been appointed a special agent of death by God.
He was convinced that he had been granted the right to kill people in order to liberate all black slaves,
and it was because he believed God had given him this right that he began the rebellion at
Pottawatomie Creek. To be a terrorist, John Brown would have had to purposely kill the innocent, in
this case the innocent being abolitionists, purely to instill fear in the government. In John Brown s
case, he had killed 5 slaveowners, and although he killed them mercilessly, he still only killed people
who would have been defined as guilty in his cause. John Brown s attacks on slaveholders can be
justified as an act of freedom fighting through the definition proposed by Walter Laqueur. terrorism
constitutes the illegitimate use of force to achieve a political objective when innocent people are
targeted . Through this definition, it is evident that John Brown did not fit the qualities of a terrorist.
Laqueur defined a terrorist as someone who targets innocent people to gain a political stand.
Slaveholders in the time of John Brown were far from innocent; often slaves

The Causes Of Reconstruction In The American Civil War
After the North wins the Civil War the South was in ruins. Train tracks are demolished therefore
preventing supplies to be sent to the people living in the South, and hundreds of buildings have
collapsed. Thousands are dead or injured. Everyone knows what is coming next. Reconstruction has
just begun, but how long will it last? The Civil War ended in the year 1865 and because the North won
the war slavery was abolished. Amendments thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen have been ratified.
Amendment thirteen ended slavery. Amendment fourteen gave African Americans, American
citizenship and civil rights. The fifteenth amendment made it illegal to deny someone the right to vote
based on race. (The DBQ Project 505). Reconstruction started in 1866 through 1909. A terrorist group
called the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) is a white supremacist group that was against Reconstruction and
freedom and civil rights for the African Americans. Information for this essay was used from the
newspapers Harper s Weekly, Independent Monitor, and the Boston Evening Transcript. Through
thinking the African Americans should not be in the government, paying more attention to the
government frauds than reconstruction, and the public opinion turning against reconstruction, the
North is responsible for killing reconstruction. Since the North did not want the free slaves in their
government conflicts arose and ended reconstruction. The blacks, as a people, are unfitted for the

Data Mining is a Technique Used to Clarify and Classify Data
Data Mining is a technique used in various domains to give meaning to the available data and different
types of Data to be handled like numerical data, non numeric data, image data...etc. In classification
tree modelling the data is classified to make predictions about new data. Using old data to predict new
data has the danger of being too fitted on the old data. In this we evaluated different types of data to be
collected from UCI repository for classify the data using the different classification algorithms J48,
Naive Bayes, Decision Tree, IBK. This paper evaluates the classification accuracy before applying the
feature selection algorithms and comparing the classification accuracy after applying the feature
selection with learning algorithms.
1. Introduction
As computer and database technologies develop rapidly, data accumulates in a speed unmatchable by
human capacity of data processing[2]. Data mining as a multidisciplinary joint effort from databases,
machine learning and statistics, is championing in turning mountains of data into nuggets. Researchers
and practitioners realize that in order to use data mining tools effectively, data processing is essential
to successful data mining.PrimitiveThese are features which have an influence on the output and their
role cannot be assumed by the rest.[1]
Feature selection can be found in many areas of data mining such as classification, clustering,
association rules and regression. For example, feature selection is

Forging, Horticulture, Agriculture, Industrialism And The...
The five modes of livelihood are, foraging, horticulture, pastoralism, agriculture, Industrialism and the
Information Age.
Foraging is based on obtaining food only available in nature, this includes fruits, small animals, nuts,
berries, and etc. This is done by either gathering, fishing, or hunting resources. The labor of this
system is family based and the gender roles do overlap. Though men tend to do the hunting, while the
females do more foraging. Foraging has a high degree of sustainability if there s undisturbed outside
forces.
Horticulture is the process of getting food by cultivating crops within gardens. These crop yields
support denser populations than foraging and allow for permanent settlements. The labor is made by
usually a main family. Men often do more work in terms of actual manually labor, such as clearing the
land. Everyone has a part in the process even the children. They help out by caring for siblings,
fetching fuel, and hauling water. The system has a high sustainability, but can get threaten by outsiders
taking land, urban development, and dam construction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These animals help provide over half of a group s diet. Pastoralists also tend to trade with other groups
to secure food and goods they cannot produce. Again like horticulture the organization of labor is
made up of families. The work between genders also overlap. However, women are usually the ones to
process the products while men herd the animals (Miller 50). This process is sustainable system if
outside forces do not encroach on herding lands and water sources. They also have to be aware of any

Summary Of God, The Founding Fathers, And The Making Of A...
In American Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation, Jon Meacham explores
the dynamic relationship between religion and government in America in the hope that contemporary
America can learn from the past. The period covered by the book spans from 1620 until Reagan s
presidency in the late 1980s. However, Meacham focuses on the Founding Fathers stances and their
continued impact on American politics. More specifically, the book details the conflict over the
separation of private religious expression and the more neutral public religion .
One of Meacham s main purposes in writing the American Gospel is to correct common
misconceptions of both secularists and evangelists in addition to moderates. In doing so, he quotes ...

Although, Meacham notes that it was an excuse to search for gold in a new land as Virginia s charter
instructed the settlers to search for all Manners of Mines of Gold, Silver, and Copper. Only 3% of that
charter was about God (61). While the Spanish went to great lengths to convert the natives of Mexico,
the English did not. Meacham mentions the criminal treatment of Native Americans perhaps three
times and implies that religion was a factor (65). Nonetheless, he does not linger on the topic and
provides no specific details. This is rather surprising considering his description of Andrew Jackson s
era as a time of religious revival and growing nationalism (141). A time during which Jackson signed
the Indian Removal Act and his successor Martin Van Buren authorized the forced removal of the
Cherokee people from their native lands in what became known as The Trail of Tears. Yet Meacham
ignores this completely while instead comparing Jackson s stance on religion and government to that
of Thomas Jefferson. Similarly to his discussion of Native Americans, Meacham classifies the
religious and cultural implications for the faiths and customs of those brought here in bondage as
largely overlooked, but fails to expand upon the topic of African American slavery and its effects

The Lost Ark
The Ark of the Covenant Has anyone actually come close to finding the lost Ark of the Covenant? To
solve that, archaeologists have been looking for two thousand years and have been able to find out a
few unique qualities about the Ark. The Ark of the Covenant is a wooden box covered in gold that
contained the Ten Commandment tablets (Wickersham). Four strong men had to carry the Ark around
due to the rule that it was never allowed to touch the ground (Parfitt 14). At each stop, the Hebrews
had to build a tabernacle for the Ark because it was so majestic. Also, only the holy of holies could go
inside the tabernacle to be in the presence of the Ark (Wickersham). To answer the two thousand and
five hundred year old mystery, archaeologists have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best place to start is the old ancient ngoma was found and photographed by a river in between
Zimbabwe and South Africa (Parfitt 13). Seeing the photo encourages Parfitt to dive deeper into the
legend of the ngoma. Legend says the ngoma was carried by four poles and attained from Jerusalem
(Parfitt 13). As stated before, four poles, just like the Ark of the Covenant, carried the ngoma. There
may be a connection between the Ark and ngoma based on similarities from the legends and facts. In
addition to that, when Parfitt arrives at a museum in Zimbabwe he investigated underground storage
and found the ngoma (Parfitt 359). To Parfitt s surprise, the ngoma was not coated in gold, but in
fractured remnants. All the remnants matched the original picture exactly. However, the only parts of
the ngoma in its original state were the rings where the poles the men carried would ve been placed
(Parfitt 360). This proves that the ngoma was found in Zimbabwe, Africa. Yet the best piece of
evidence is, The Ark was here. In the dust of its hiding place, said Tudor Parfitt (365). Just like the
Ark, the ngoma was not permitted to touch the ground, it was a place of God, the ngoma was carried
on poles, and it was the same size (Parfitt 361). The ngoma was the Ark and the Ark was the ngoma. It
had been hidden so long in underground storage, that no one knew it was the ancient Ark of the
Covenant. Due to all of the reasons, the mystery of the Ark of the Covenant was decoded and is

Rotary Youth Leadership Analysis
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards has a special place in my heart because I feel that it has truly
changed my life. When I arrived at RYLA for the first time I had no idea what to expect and as I
stepped out of my school s van I was overwhelmed by the amount of excitement in the air but by the
end of the day I was already hooked. After my camper year I knew I had to try to come back as a CIT
and then again as a Chief. Now that I have been able to experience RYLA from all three angles it is
safe to say that it can truly change a young persons life. The meaning of leadership can vary
depending on the person but to me leadership is the way a person, or group, leads a group of people in
a task. Everyone has their own form of leadership but I personally prefer to lead by example as well as
consult with the group before I make a decision. I feel that with this form of leadership I will never be
asking someone to do something that I wouldn t do myself, and it allows for members to become

The Impact Of Facebook On The Campus Of Harvard University...
The story of Facebook begins on the campus of Harvard University. Whether the inspiration for the
site originated with Cameron Winklevoss, Tyler Winklevoss and Divya Narendra or the founder and
current CEO Mark Zuckerberg is debatable. For the sake of thoroughness, the story will begin with
the Winklevoss. In 2003 the Winklevoss twins were seniors at Harvard University both majoring in
economics, together with fellow Harvard senior Divya Narendra they were searching for a web
designer to help them create a site to be titled HarvardConnections.com, according to the three they
had come up with this idea in their junior year at Harvard. The plan for HarvardConnections.com was
that it would be a networking site for Harvard students and alumni, users would be able to create
profiles, add friends, and send messages to one another (Zuckerberg often referred to it as a dating
site). Initially the Winklevoss twins and Narendra dictated the coding of their website to Sanjay G.
Mavinkurve but once he graduated and went on to work at Google they began to pay Victor Y. Gao to
code for them. Soon however, Gao also left the project but recommended that the three should contact
Mark Zuckerberg to replace him. Mark Zuckerberg originally from Dobbs Ferry, New York was a
sophomore student at Harvard at the time. Mark Zuckerberg, incidentally, was already a bit famous
among students at Harvard during the time because of his creation of Facemash. The website

The Islamic State has been created in 2003 during the invasion of Iraq by a Jordanian in order to expel
Americans. The movement has been linked to Al Qaeda but has been weaken by the American
offensive. However since 2011 the organization has used the Syrian civil war to regain influence and
territories. In 2013 Al Qaeda rejected the movement because of its violence. They tried to create an
alliance with Al Nosra which refused because of its violence too. The Islamic State has been known
under several names: first Tawhid wal Djihad, Al Qaeda in Iraq, Islamic State of Iraq, Islamic State of
Iraq and the Levant, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and then Islamic State. But under its different
names, its goal has always been the same: to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The USA has really reconsidered the threat of this group after the kidnapping and execution of two
American journalists and the quick rising tide of the organization. So how the USA is dealing with the
ISIS threat and is its strategy suitable? We may wonder why the Islamic State is difficult to struggle,
what is the American strategy to eradicate this terrorist group and what are the limits of the strategy of
the international coalition led by the USA.
The Islamic State is currently considered as the major threat of the USA according to a recent survey
on American people . But is this group really strong, well equipped and so a threat for the West?
Firstly the Islamic State is the wealthiest terrorist group of the world. At the beginning some Gulf
countries have helped the group but have stopped with the raising of its violence. But now the group is
self financed with racketeering and robbery of conquered territories. For instance the capture of the
city of Mossoul gave a lot of money staying in its banks. But the group is also using the money of
ransoms for hostages and is mainly dealing lots of oil. However this wealth is not the only reason of
its strength. The problem is that we do not know accurately the allies or supporters of the Islamic
State. As a consequence we do not know exactly the men that the organization has in its ranks.

How Does Holden Caulfield Existentialism
Existentialism In The Catcher In THe Rye, JD Salinger shows Existentialist views through the main
character Holden Caulfield, and the choices he makes throughout the novel. Throughout the book
Holden chooses existentialist views when he does anything, and he s a very weird guy, that is slightly
awkward. Holden s thoughts on the world around him change throughout the book like how he sees
kids and people. Holden sees kids as innocent people that shouldn t be exposed to the horrors around
the world that s is seen on a daily basis. Holden matures in this short period of time by going through
traumatic experiences like getting beat up by a pimp, and paying for a hooker, or seeing profanity
written at a museum. Holden is a young man who believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Bipolar Disorder And Mental Health
Bipolar Disorder is otherwise known as manic depressive illness. It is a brain disorder that causes
shifts in moods, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out daily tasks. (Cite) These changes in
behavior are outside of the norm as most people have ups and downs throughout their daily routines.
But those with Bipolar Disorder experience shifts in mood that can be damaging to relationships, as
well as their overall school and work performances. (Cite) I chose this disorder as the topic for my
paper because a few years back my mother was diagnosed with the disorder. I have always been
curious whether or not I would end up like her, later on in life, with the same manic depressive illness.
And if I did end up with this disorder I wonder if I would pass it onto my children. According to the
National Institute of Mental Health there are four individual types of bipolar disorder: Bipolar
Disorder I, Bipolar Disorder II, Cyclothymic Disorder, and Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified
. My mother has Rapid Cycling Bipolar Disorder and she has been hospitalized quite a few times for
psych evaluations. Those who experience rapid cycling can go between depression and mania as often
as a few times a week (some even cycle within the same day). (An Introduction to Bipolar Disorder).
Growing up with a mother who has this disorder and a stepfather with schizophrenia its very hard to
think of good memories since there was always arguments and fighting. It s a strange

Pantene Advertising Analysis
Strong is Beautiful is the slogan that Selena Gomez is promoting in her Pantene advertisement in
Good Housekeeping. It is indeed an excellent slogan that sells the brand well and promotes the
importance of self image, but is what the 3 Minute Miracle Moisture Renewal actually strong or is it

will allow costumers to better avoid being swindled by crafty advertisements using beautiful women
and empowering slogans. The Pantene Ad being analyzed uses the fame of actress and music artist
Selena Gomez to persuade readers through ethos. It obviously targets a younger generation through
Selena Gomez, as she was a Disney star growing up, starring in things such as Wizards of Waverley

recently named by Billboard Magazine the 2017 Woman of the Year, (Wariner). Pantene even goes as

find the accident spot at any place and intimating it to ambulance through the gps and gsm networks.
Now a days, it became very difficult to know that an accident occurred and to locate the position
where it has happened. It s very difficult for the lives of victims until anyone noticed and informed it
to the ambulance or to any hospital and if it occurs in remote areas there will be no hope to survive. To
overcome these, gps and gsm technologies are used. The gps based vehicle accident identification

Microcontroller A single chip used to control other devices. Any microcomputer system requires
memory to store a sequence of instructions making up a program, parallel port or serial port for
communicating with an external system, timer / counter for control purposes like generating time

Micro controller (AT89C51) In this project work we are using AT89C51 micro controller. This micro
controller plays a major role. Micro controllers were originally used as components in complicated
process control systems. However, because of their small size and low price, Micro controllers are
now also being used in regulators for individual control loops. In several areas Micro controllers are
now outperforming their analog counterparts and are cheaper as well. A Micro controller consists of a
powerful CPU tightly coupled with memory RAM, ROM or EPROM), various I / O features such as
Serial ports, Parallel Ports, Timer/Counters, Interrupt Controller, Data Acquisition interfaces Analog to
Digital Converter (ADC), Digital to Analog Converter (ADC), everything integrated onto a single

The Digestive Systems Organs Work
The digestive systems organs work together to help the body turn food into nutrients and energy. Food
passes through the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract). The GI tract is made up of the oral cavity, pharynx,
esophagus, stomach, small intestines, and large intestines. There are accessory organs that do not have
food pass through them but those organs help with the digestive system. They include the teeth,
tongue, salivary glands, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. The six major functions need to happen in the
digestive system and they are ingestion, secretion, mixing and movement, digestion, absorption, and
excretion. (Taylor)
The oral cavity is the mouth. The mouth has the tongue, teeth, and salivary glands inside it. Once food
has entered the mouth, teeth must chop the food into small pieces. The food must be moistened by
saliva before it can be push down the pharynx by the tongue and other muscles. There are about 32
small teeth in the body s mouth. The teeth are the hardest substance in the body. They are bone like
and covered in a layer of enamel. Under the teeth, the pulp, there are blood vessels and nerves. Teeth
are made for grinding and cutting food into smaller pieces. The tongue is located right behind the teeth
and is made of muscles covered in a bumpy, thin, skin like layer. The tongue uses those muscles to
push food to the back of the mouth for swallowing. The mouth has taste buds on it. When food enters
the mouth those taste buds send the taste information

Reflection On IDEA Speech
Here comes the end of this semester, and I really want to reflect on my overall performance through
this course and set goals for future. In the past three months, I feel like I have accomplished a lot not
only as a student but also as a speaker. From all the speeches I did this semester including Grab Bag
Speech, My Path Interview, Career Path Presentation, Rhetorical Analysis Activity, Pitch Speech,
Story Podcasts, and two impromptu speeches, I learned a lot of speaking skills and showed a big
progress. In addition, Professor Khalil taught me a very important thing which is knowing people
well, which allows me to be more confident and relaxed while doing a speech. I think I improved a lot
from the beginning to the end, and I am pleased with my overall delivery in the IDEA Speech.
However, there is still more space for me to improve, so I am going to do a self critique based on my
performance not only in the IDEA Speech but also throughout the course. First of all, I would like to
analyze my results from the PRCA survey. My overall score is 46, which represents a low
communication apprehension. Compared to the result of my first survey which was 56, I thought I
improved a lot. My anxiety and nervous reduced a lot in the IDEA Speech, and I felt very confidence
while speaking. I think these improvements show that I prepared well, know my audience well, and
paid attention to the presentation skills. I know that I spent a long time preparing each speech before

Oceanic Victor claim that the tuna cage will not attract any more sharks than usual, which is odd to
say as in other circumstances in tuna pens shark wranglers have been hired to cut free sharks that have
been stuck in the nets.[4] Tuna cages attract sharks, which are drawn to fish which sometimes die in
the pens and settle in the bottoms of the floating nets. Inquisitive sharks may bite holes in nets and
enter the cages or become entangled in the nets and subsequently become distressed or drown. In
response, employees of tuna ranching operations will either enter the water and attempt to wrestle the
sharks out of the pens, or kill the shark. Species known to interact with southern bluefin tuna
operations include hammerhead sharks, bronze whalers and great white sharks. The latter species is
protected under federal Australian legislation while the former two are not. Some of these interactions
are shown in the documentary film, Tuna Wranglers (2007). [3]

Band Is More Than Just Playing an Instrument
I have been asked many times by my friends that aren t in band why are you in band? Get out of band
so we can be in the stands together during the game. band is lame, They do not understand what band
is really about. Band is not just about playing an instrument and marching. I started band in the 6th
grade, I honestly thought that I wasn t going to make it to my senior year, but here I am a senior in
band. I am not forced to be in band I can get out at anytime anyday, but I choose not to. It is hard
when you are marching and it feels like 100+ degrees. You feel like you want to pass out, but you just
have to suck it up and be tough. Throughout the years I have been in band I have created friendships. I
have my closest friends in band. I have created many memories in band that will last a lifetime, that I
will share one day with my kids. I do not know what I would do without band. Getting in band has
been the best decision I have ever made. Band has been the highlight of my high school years. One of
the scariest moments I have experienced in band was when we messed up at U.I.L. contest, I was
terrified I did not want us to make a 2, it all happened so fast. It was time to get our results, we made a
1, I was so happy. The judges said that if you were to close your eyes and listening to us, you would

Essay On Circular Dna Throws Biologists For A Loop
Circular DNA Throws Biologists For a Loop In her article Circular DNA throws biologists for a loop
Elizabeth Pennisi of Cold Spring Harbor, New York. Examines several developments in the case of
mysterious loops known as extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA). Scientists have known about
these circular DNA for decades they were first found in the nuclei of plant cells and later in brain
cancer cells. At the time scientists speculated that these circular DNA may give brain tumors a genetic
boost by carrying extra copies of cancer related genes called oncogenes. Recently it has become
increasingly evident that these structures play a key role in the growth and development of cancer.

He believes that circular DNA carries many copies of oncogenes increasing the tumors growth. During
cell division eccDNA replicates like any other cell, but unlike chromosomal DNA. Circular DNA may
not be evenly apportioned between daughter cells during cell division. As a result, eccDNA can
massively increase the number of oncogenes in some cells and if the oncogenes give the cell a growth
boost than oncogenes cells can take over the tumor cells. Furthermore, Mischel and his colleagues
have also found oncogenes outside their normal location in circular DNA. These finding suggests that
eccDNA may even transfer oncogenes back onto linear DNA cells. Anindya Dutta, molecular biologist
at the University of Virginia has suggested that eccDNA may help cells communicate over long
distances. Dutta has found that circular DNA can be found in the circulatory system of rodents grafted
with human tumor cells. Shed DNA can then transfer gene fragments to other cells. Roel Verhaak, a
cancer biologist at Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine has found evidence that supports the
theory of eccDNA traveling and contributing to cancer growth. He and his team found that 13
glioblastoma patients had eccDNA in their tumor genes containing the cancer promoting gene MET.
Therefore, the eccDNA was found to increase tumor activity in cancer

The usability testing for PowerTeacher s Gradebook indicated that the interface is lacking in some
basic usability features such as learnability, ease of use, feedback and memorability. The study
findings suggest many usability issues related to creating new assignments, entering comments,
manually overwrite grades, and generating reports within the school information system which are
potentially impeding a teacher s capacity to efficiently execute routine classroom management tasks,
at least the time frame in which these tasks are completed. This is especially a problem for novice or

4. Simplify the steps, and make more visible the option to include a teacher s signature line when
generating reports. Including a Signature Line on a report is a frequent task by users, hence should not
have to manipulate several options to locate it. Currently, the user have to manipulate several steps to
find the signature line, this can be time consuming and frustrating, especially for a novice user or
intermediate user, which was the case during the observation.
5. Simplify the steps to generate reports. Currently to generate a final grade and verification report
requires the user to complete approximately 10 steps. A user generating five successive reports must
chose an incorrect reporting period before the correct one can be selected. For example, the first report
for year, year one is selected, then the second report for quarter 4, another period such as quarter 1
must be selected and then go back and select quarter 4 before the quarter 4 report can be generated.
This is time consuming and reduces the memorability of the Interface.
6. Add more examples to the Help File, for example how to enter grades so that it is not reflected in a
final grade. None of the three participants was able to locate the steps for this task using the Help File.

The third instrument measuring anxiety is the Catastrophe model. The purpose of this model is to find
the correlation between physiological arousal and cognitive anxiety and the relationship it has with

researchers Yerkes Dodson (1908) conducted a study on mice testing punishment stimulus frequency.
Results from the study predicted that very little to no arousal prompts poor performance, moderate
arousal prompts average or decent performance and after that performance declines after reaching the

Gothic Architecture In Europe s Influence On English...
1 INTRODUCTION
Originating in France, which had an even greater impact on English architecture than in previous
centuries, the Gothic style is an era of European architecture and art, starting 1140 and lasting until the
mid 16th century. It is the epoch between Romanesque and Renaissance and heavily makes use of
imagery as well as allegory.
In architecture, the Early, High and Late Gothic periods are distinguished. Depending on surroundings
and time, these periods have developed differently.
Vast cathedrals and churches but also a few domestic buildings provide the strongest representation of
Gothic architectural style (Wikipedia contributors, 2017a).
1.1 ORIGIN OF THE TERM GOTHIC
The term Gothic originally was a swearword (meaning: barbaric, unfamiliar) which the Italian art
theorist Giorgio Vasari wanted to express his disregard of Gothic art in relation to antiquity. Gothic
architecture was called opus francigenum which means French Style (Wikipedia contributors, 2017a).
1.2 DEVELOPMENT OF THE GOTHIC ARCHITECTURAL STYLE
Gothic represented a break with the past which is expressed by getting rid of massive wall
constructions, an emphasis on views and diagonal lines. This style of architecture with its new
elements made buildings seem like or inspired by a skeleton which is a first and has not been practiced
in ancient as well as medieval architecture (Watkin, 2015a).
Gothic architecture draws on basics of Romanesque s technologically developed art of construction

A Career in Social Work
A Career in Social Work
I chose to do research on a career as a social worker because, based on my Holland and MBTI code,
this career best combines the conventional, social, and realistic aspects of my personality. I also feel
that this career choice corresponds with my personal values, as it will allow me to channel my
communication and problem solving skills towards helping disadvantaged individuals and families.
Entering the social work field requires considerable preparation. In California, as in most states, a
bachelor s degree in social work (BSW), as well as the completion of additional coursework hours in
areas such as child abuse assessment and alcohol/chemical dependency, is the minimum requirement
to become a Licensed Bachelor s Social Worker (LBSW). An LBSW must work under the supervision
of a Licensed Master Social Worker or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licenses which both require
a master s degree in social work (MSW). Most California State University campuses in the southern
California area offer accredited degrees in social work. In particular, the University of Southern
California offers a top ranked online MSW program. Full time social workers must also be prepared to

The Cause For The Growth Of International Trade In The...
At the turn of the 19th century the sum of exports and imports across nations was below 10%, today it
is higher than 50%. This means there has been a dramatic increase in international trade in the last
century (Roser, 2017). Even by half the time of fifty years there was even more growth. What may
have led to the growth of international trade during this time? This paper will study the cause for the
surge in international trade.
International trade has been a part of life from the time people could travel to other places, be it by
their own power in walking, or by use of an animal to ride, then by ships, followed by trains,
automobiles, and finally airplanes. As with every invention, technological advancements enhanced
each one of these modes of transportation, perhaps, besides by a person own power. This allows for
movement of products to move faster across nations, though these advancements were long before the
time we will explore further in this paper, they can be seen as an important part of international trade.
The last century has brought many technological advancements. The newest invention to assist the
growth of international trade. It has help make communication not only easier but also faster, no
longer do businesses and individuals compose letters, send them off, then wait for weeks on end for a
response to be received, it can now be hours worth of wait, or even instantaneous. Companies in one

Aristotle and the Tragic Hero
Aristotle and the Tragic Hero The traditional hero stresses courage and nobility as essential traits of
heroism. He lived by a code of honor and valued certain things as more important than others, so that
he is willing to take risks and endure hardships for their sake. He is often a leader and protector of a

He truly possessed the unquenchable thirst for glory. Achilles was provoked to achieve prominence so

After receiving word of Patroclus death, Achilles immediately seeks revenge. Also, Achilles
desecrated the body of King Prium s son. Hector s warrior status should have meant proper burial rites
but Achilles completely ignored this tradition. The fact that Achilles ignored this common practice

Based on their emotion, one could conclude whether or not they saw justification in the heroes actions

The Impact Of Religious Culture In Giovanni Boccaccio s...
Religious culture in Italy grew and developed in several ways over its span of existence. It was also a
time of recording information and countless people wrote during this time about the different aspects
of their country. Religion was an important part of the people s daily life, seeing that it determined
their afterlife. There are several stories and beliefs available about this time period that are used for
current references on how exactly the religious culture worked. In particular, Giovanni Boccaccio s
Decameron, which he wrote as a series of short stories about the religious culture during the 1350 s,
which was not long after the Black Death. His series of fictional short stories gave people a different
side of the story and how people truly regarded religion during this time. Currently, people who read
these excerpts can compose inferences on how religious culture was back then and it gives a different
thought process, seeing that while it is not particularly true, it shows a different side of the religious
culture. Specifically, the story he tells us in this excerpt shows us a great deal about the religious
culture of Italy during that time and how seriously they regarded God and his forgiveness, so much
that one man lived a horrid life and still managed to gain forgiveness of the church and be buried
there. Religious culture over the years has changed in hundreds of ways, with copious different

for a conversation on race. Even when Venus Williams and Serena Williams are on the tennis court, or

of their black blood. The irony is that when they won the champion or led the team to win, people
started to flaunt their nationalities, saying, She or he is one of our country. That certainly would be
ironic, wouldn t it? They can feel grief and sad just like everybody, after all! There are so many people
who scorn black people from the bottom of their hearts, they carry out intentional offensives to the
black all the time, in words and actions. Sometimes even if part of us don t harm them deliberately,
and some of those encounters are mild and insignificant, what we do seem to be just a casual move, it
also expresses the most truest neglect of people s heart. Thus, black ones bear too much stress, they
begin to dare not to appear in public, they have lost the ability to talk and communicate with others,
some of them even lose the courage to live in the world. Because of the white man s disgust, their life
has a lot of bad. And then it s their resistance, some people may hate the society extremely and

act or control, and it is evident from the title that a shrew is going to be tamed, i.e. it will be
controlled. The shrew turns out to be a woman called Katherina. I think he reason Shakespeare has a
women as the shrew is to prove that controlling women didn t get very far. It was a male dominated
world. Whilst reading the play we come to learn that the shrew is a lady called Katherina, it is her
rebellious and wild ways that get her this nickname. Katherina has more power than, I think, she

Petruchio comes across as a very egotistical man who will assert his maleness to get what he wants.
He enjoys having power over everything he possibly can, including his new bride. By the end of act 4
scene 1 he has already developed a master plan in which he likes Katherina to be a wild hawk. He says
that he will use the same method to tame her. He will starve and watch her and make sure she

Reflection Assignment 3 Following Johns Model of Structured Reflection For this reflective piece I am going to write about a situation I encountered whilst on my community placement with the district nurse. To write the essay I will be following Johns model of structured reflection as a basis to structure my reflection around. Johns Model of Structured Reflection (Johns 1998) 1.Write a description of the experience. Ask yourself: * What are the significant issues I need to pay attention to? Whilst on my community placement for one of my initial spokes, I arranged to spend the morning with the district nurse on her rounds, to gain an insight into her role within the community and find out first hand exactly what her job entails. ... During the whole situation from the moment we pulled up out side the house I was very nervous and wanting to give a good impression only made this worse. Once we had entered the house and met Tom I calmed down a little. I was surprised at my own reaction of distaste when I entered the house and encounter a grumpy drunk so early in the morning; I had no prior knowledge of his situation (Claire later informed me that his wife had recently divorced him and he was having difficulties coping). When Claire asked me to do the drops I declined, at the time I was annoyed with myself for missing the opportunity to practice my clinical skills. 4.Ethics: ask yourself: Did my actions match with my beliefs? What factors made me act in incongruent ways? In refection my actions did not match the beliefs I held about myself before coming on community.

Energy Security in the Asia Pacific Region ENERGY SECURITY IN THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION To meet China s fast rising energy demands, Chinese leaders exerted great effort with a market oriented approach and a state centered approach. The market oriented approach look for energy safety by better assimilation of national and international markets ...state intervention would be restricted to the dispersal of data in a multilateral context, the help of innovation, and, for few management of a strategic oil reserve which would be applied in case of fleeting supply interruption. In contrast, the state centered approach is based upon neo mercantilist a thought that relies on bilateral diplomatic contacts with oil producing countries to strengthen energy security by the use of national resource and state owned enterprise investments in overseas energy resources and firm control of exports and imports of energy products. Though market oriented economic change has been the way of post Mao reforms, the market oriented approach has not increased momentum in the energy division because the Chinese leadership has mull over China s energy security tactically too significant to be left to market forces alone . Taking over offices in 2002, President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao decided that securing unwavering supplies of petroleum and added scare resources was not merely critical to maintained economic development, but also essential to China s national security . Body Temperature And How It Regulate Homeostasis In this assignment, I am going to be discussing body temperature in relation to the process of negative feedback and how it regulates homeostasis. Carnegie Mellon University (2015) defines homeostasis as the tendency of biological systems to maintain relatively constant conditions in the internal environment, while continuously interacting with and adjusting to changes originating within or outside the system. Homeostasis is continually being disrupted due to the external environment, whether it be the weather causing the body to overheat/sweat or a blood glucose level dropping due to missing a meal. Luckily, there are body systems that work together to bring the internal environment back to the right balance. The nervous system and the endocrine system are linked with the hypothalamus, which is situated in the centre of the brain it provides the needed corrective measures to ensure the body is back to the right balance. When homeostasis is maintained, we know that the body is healthy. The nervous system maintains homeostasis by sending electrical signals known as nerve impulses where organs can respond to the ... A soldier has to be brave, strong willed, hardworking, and nevertheless willing to die for what they believe in. In The Charge of the Light Brigade , Lord Alfred Tennyson created a masterpiece of a poem by reliving the events that happened during the Light Brigade s charge. Lord Alfred Tennyson conveys that the Light Brigade stood firm through their rigorous battle. During the Crimean War, the Light Brigade was going into battle against Russia. Lord Tennyson states, Half a league, half a league, / Half a league onward, / All in the valley of Death / Rode the six hundred (Tennyson lines 1 4). The Light Brigade kept on riding even though they knew what was to eventually happen. As the war was going on, the Russians apprehended a supply of guns that had originally been for the British. • 12. Comparing Homer s Iliad With Wolfgang Petersen s Film... In my response I am going to compare Homer s Iliad with Wolfgang Petersen s film Troy. The points I am going to compare are the fight between Paris and Menelaus, the role of the gods, the death of Patroclus and the fight between Hector and Achilles. The Iliad is an epic poem consisting of 23 books by Homer, which focuses on 50 days in the ninth year of the Trojan War, whereas the movie Troy directed by Wolfgang Petersen tells the whole 10 year story of the myth. The Trojan War happened in the Bronze Age and was a war between the Mycenaean Greece kingdom and the kingdom of Troy. Homers Iliad is believed to be one of the first works of western literature and was set 500 years earlier than the time in which he lived. The Iliad is to be listened to, not read, unless you are the poet performing the epic. The poet would chant or sing the Iliad while being accompanied by lyre, to help tell the story. It had a set rhythm and metre in each line of the poem, which the poet had to follow but it is lost in translation as its original written language is Ancient Greek. The film Troy was released on the 14th May 2004 and is loosely based on the Iliad. Brad Pitt, who was 40 years old during the making of this movie, and stars as Achilles. The ending of the film is not from the Iliad but from Virgil s Aeneid, as the Iliad ends with Hectors death and funeral. Since childhood, John Brown had been a devout Calvinist, believing that God wanted all people to be equal. He believed that his purpose on earth was to put an end to slavery, as seen in the quote he had been predestined to bring an end to slavery, which he believed with burning certitude was a sin against God . Given the mark he left on America after the Pottawatomie Creek rebellion, he certainly did just that. His ultimate goal was the creation of an independent black nation (Father of American Terrorism pg 146). John Brown was a strong freedom fighter, in the sense that he was willing to die so African Americans could be free. Brown believed that he had been appointed a special agent of death by God. He was convinced that he had been granted the right to kill people in order to liberate all black slaves, and it was because he believed God had given him this right that he began the rebellion at Pottawatomie Creek. To be a terrorist, John Brown would have had to purposely kill the innocent, in this case the innocent being abolitionists, purely to instill fear in the government. In John Brown s case, he had killed 5 slaveowners, and although he killed them mercilessly, he still only killed people who would have been defined as guilty in his cause. John Brown s attacks on slaveholders can be justified as an act of freedom fighting through the definition proposed by Walter Laqueur. terrorism constitutes the illegitimate use of force to achieve a political objective when innocent people are targeted . Foraging is based on obtaining food only available in nature, this includes fruits, small animals, nuts, berries, and etc. This is done by either gathering, fishing, or hunting resources. The labor of this system is family based and the gender roles do overlap. Though men tend to do the hunting, while the females do more foraging. Foraging has a high degree of sustainability if there s undisturbed outside forces. Horticulture is the process of getting food by cultivating crops within gardens. These crop yields support denser populations than foraging and allow for permanent settlements. The labor is made by usually a main family. Men often do more work in terms of actual manually labor, such as clearing the land. Everyone has a part in the process even the children. • 27. The Digestive Systems Organs Work The digestive systems organs work together to help the body turn food into nutrients and energy. Food passes through the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract). The GI tract is made up of the oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestines, and large intestines. There are accessory organs that do not have food pass through them but those organs help with the digestive system. They include the teeth, tongue, salivary glands, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. The six major functions need to happen in the digestive system and they are ingestion, secretion, mixing and movement, digestion, absorption, and excretion. (Taylor) The oral cavity is the mouth. The mouth has the tongue, teeth, and salivary glands inside it. Once food has entered the mouth, teeth must chop the food into small pieces. The food must be moistened by saliva before it can be push down the pharynx by the tongue and other muscles. There are about 32 small teeth in the body s mouth. The teeth are the hardest substance in the body. They are bone like and covered in a layer of enamel. Under the teeth, the pulp, there are blood vessels and nerves. Teeth are made for grinding and cutting food into smaller pieces. The tongue is located right behind the teeth and is made of muscles covered in a bumpy, thin, skin like layer. The tongue uses those muscles to push food to the back of the mouth for swallowing. The mouth has taste buds on it. When food enters the mouth those taste buds send the taste information ... • 28. Reflection On IDEA Speech Here comes the end of this semester, and I really want to reflect on my overall performance through this course and set goals for future. In the past three months, I feel like I have accomplished a lot not only as a student but also as a speaker. From all the speeches I did this semester including Grab Bag Speech, My Path Interview, Career Path Presentation, Rhetorical Analysis Activity, Pitch Speech, Story Podcasts, and two impromptu speeches, I learned a lot of speaking skills and showed a big progress. In addition, Professor Khalil taught me a very important thing which is knowing people well, which allows me to be more confident and relaxed while doing a speech. I think I improved a lot from the beginning to the end, and I am pleased with my overall delivery in the IDEA Speech. However, there is still more space for me to improve, so I am going to do a self critique based on my performance not only in the IDEA Speech but also throughout the course. First of all, I would like to analyze my results from the PRCA survey. My overall score is 46, which represents a low communication apprehension. Compared to the result of my first survey which was 56, I thought I improved a lot. My anxiety and nervous reduced a lot in the IDEA Speech, and I felt very confidence while speaking. I think these improvements show that I prepared well, know my audience well, and paid attention to the presentation skills. I know that I spent a long time preparing each speech before the real ... Oceanic Victor claim that the tuna cage will not attract any more sharks than usual, which is odd to say as in other circumstances in tuna pens shark wranglers have been hired to cut free sharks that have been stuck in the nets.[4] Tuna cages attract sharks, which are drawn to fish which sometimes die in the pens and settle in the bottoms of the floating nets. Inquisitive sharks may bite holes in nets and enter the cages or become entangled in the nets and subsequently become distressed or drown. In response, employees of tuna ranching operations will either enter the water and attempt to wrestle the sharks out of the pens, or kill the shark. Species known to interact with southern bluefin tuna operations include hammerhead sharks, bronze whalers and great white sharks. The latter species is protected under federal Australian legislation while the former two are not. Some of these interactions are shown in the documentary film, Tuna Wranglers (2007). Get out of band so we can be in the stands together during the game. band is lame, They do not understand what band is really about. Band is not just about playing an instrument and marching. I started band in the 6th grade, I honestly thought that I wasn t going to make it to my senior year, but here I am a senior in band. I am not forced to be in band I can get out at anytime anyday, but I choose not to. It is hard when you are marching and it feels like 100+ degrees. You feel like you want to pass out, but you just have to suck it up and be tough. Throughout the years I have been in band I have created friendships. I have my closest friends in band. I have created many memories in band that will last a lifetime, that I will share one day with my kids. I do not know what I would do without band. Getting in band has been the best decision I have ever made. Band has been the highlight of my high school years. One of the scariest moments I have experienced in band was when we messed up at U.I.L. contest, I was terrified I did not want us to make a 2, it all happened so fast. It was time to get our results, we made a 1, I was so happy. The judges said that if you were to close your eyes and listening to us, you would not know we messed up. Essay On Circular Dna Throws Biologists For A Loop Circular DNA Throws Biologists For a Loop In her article Circular DNA throws biologists for a loop Elizabeth Pennisi of Cold Spring Harbor, New York. Examines several developments in the case of mysterious loops known as extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA). Scientists have known about these circular DNA for decades they were first found in the nuclei of plant cells and later in brain cancer cells. At the time scientists speculated that these circular DNA may give brain tumors a genetic boost by carrying extra copies of cancer related genes called oncogenes. Recently it has become increasingly evident that these structures play a key role in the growth and development of cancer. Thanks to an innovation in a 50 year old biophysics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He believes that circular DNA carries many copies of oncogenes increasing the tumors growth. During cell division eccDNA replicates like any other cell, but unlike chromosomal DNA. Circular DNA may not be evenly apportioned between daughter cells during cell division. As a result, eccDNA can massively increase the number of oncogenes in some cells and if the oncogenes give the cell a growth boost than oncogenes cells can take over the tumor cells. Furthermore, Mischel and his colleagues have also found oncogenes outside their normal location in circular DNA. These finding suggests that eccDNA may even transfer oncogenes back onto linear DNA cells. Anindya Dutta, molecular biologist at the University of Virginia has suggested that eccDNA may help cells communicate over long distances. Dutta has found that circular DNA can be found in the circulatory system of rodents grafted with human tumor cells. Shed DNA can then transfer gene fragments to other cells. Roel Verhaak, a cancer biologist at Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine has found evidence that supports the theory of eccDNA traveling and contributing to cancer growth. He and his team found that 13 glioblastoma patients had eccDNA in their tumor genes containing the cancer promoting gene MET. Therefore, the eccDNA was found to increase tumor activity in cancer ... • 35. Gothic Architecture In Europe s Influence On English... 1 INTRODUCTION Originating in France, which had an even greater impact on English architecture than in previous centuries, the Gothic style is an era of European architecture and art, starting 1140 and lasting until the mid 16th century. It is the epoch between Romanesque and Renaissance and heavily makes use of imagery as well as allegory. In architecture, the Early, High and Late Gothic periods are distinguished. Depending on surroundings and time, these periods have developed differently. Vast cathedrals and churches but also a few domestic buildings provide the strongest representation of Gothic architectural style (Wikipedia contributors, 2017a). 1.1 ORIGIN OF THE TERM GOTHIC The term Gothic originally was a swearword (meaning: barbaric, unfamiliar) which the Italian art theorist Giorgio Vasari wanted to express his disregard of Gothic art in relation to antiquity. Gothic architecture was called opus francigenum which means French Style (Wikipedia contributors, 2017a). 1.2 DEVELOPMENT OF THE GOTHIC ARCHITECTURAL STYLE Gothic represented a break with the past which is expressed by getting rid of massive wall constructions, an emphasis on views and diagonal lines. This style of architecture with its new elements made buildings seem like or inspired by a skeleton which is a first and has not been practiced in ancient as well as medieval architecture (Watkin, 2015a).
