The brief:
• Create a magazine of my choosing and that will be funded
through the use of advertising.
• The target audience for the magazine is people ages
between 16-25
• Socioeconomic class of ABC1
• To carry out research to understand my audience.
3. MY CLIENT
My client is the Northern Echo which is a northern newspaper.
In order to meet my brief I will:
• Identify all my target audiences and the tribes which they are in
• Create articles that are interesting and appealing to my target audience
• Create a magazine that creates an income and doesn't’t make a loss
• Identify a gap in the market
I may have to consider:
That the Northern Echo has high morals and there is certain things that I
wont be able to include as they also relate to a secondary audience,
therefore:
• No offensive or taboo language
• No Nudity
• No biased articles

14. MOCK UPS
I decided to choose one of my double page spreads and make two mock ups
of them and then get feedback about them. To get this feed back I did a
focus group and asked my target audience what they though about the two
mock ups
15. MOCK UP 1 FEEDBACK
I got some feedback from my target audience and found out what they though about this DPS and the things they like and the features
they think could improved or added.
My focus group said they like the images on this page and they think that they are aesthetically pleasing and eye catching this is good
as this means that this DPs will be appealing to the audience.
My focus group also liked the article and though that my target audience would enjoy reading it and its interesting.
They also said that there is pars of this DPS that could be merged with my second one, these were the text on the right and some of the
images.
16. MOCK UP 2 FEEDBACK
In my focus group I found out that my target audience like the active moving
imagery on the left and think that this represents skateboarding and is appealing
to my target audience. The font for the heading they also liked and found
appealing however they think I should use that font but merge this page with the
first page by keeping the active imagery on the left but using the layout of the first
page on this page but with the heading being the font that it is.
17. MY IDEA
Name: Skaterz
Genre of the magazine: Male Alternative lifestyle magazine
Gap in the market: There is lots of male lifestyle magazine
around but they mainly focus on health and fitness whereas
my magazine is for males who live alternative lifestyles and
have different interests and hobbies.
Downfall: One downfall to my magazine is that because my
magazine is free other audiences will see the magazine and
might not enjoy it as it is a niche audience to my magazine.

In my magazine o am going to have 3 articles these articles are
going to be about:
• Skateboarding, this article is based on a skateboarder from
Darlington this article is going to be an integrated interview.
• Tattoos the reasons why people get them and I will also interview
a tattoo artist and find out about tattooing from him.
• A local band called the lagoons, this article is going to be about
the band themselves and their music and influences.

26. PRICING
My magazine is going to be a free magazine so this means that all my income is going
to be through advertising. The advertising costs for my magazine though can be high as
I will distribute a lot of magazines so lots of people will be able to see the
advertisement.
The reason for making my magazine free is because people my age and the target
audience of my magazine don’t have a lot of disposable income so a free magazine will
be better for them. I conducted a questionnaire and found out that the majority of my
target audience would pay between 50p-£2 this price range isn't very large and then I
looked at other similar magazines that where free and they looked like how I wanted my
magazine to look so I decided that I would make my magazine free.
27. INCOME
Because my magazine is going to be free all of my income
will come from advertising within my magazine. Below is my
prices for advertising in my magazine and how many I will
include, I will get £1100 from advertising I will use this money
to cover all the expenditure for making my magazine.

The overall expenditure of my

Overall after the costs of making my

becomes more popular then I could get
more advertisement included making a
larger income.
31. CONCLUSION
I think that my magazine will fill a gap in the market and it
meets the northern echoes brief because:
• It offers a varied content
• Its alternative compared to other male lifestyle magazines
• It makes a profit through advertisement
