Zoe Toulson is proposing a 32-page monthly pop-rock magazine titled "A" to be created in Photoshop and InDesign. The magazine would target 16-23 year olds and feature popular artists like Pink, Justin Bieber, and Ed Sheeran to attract readers. The front cover design would use a white masthead in a blush-colored box placed in the top left corner against a photo background to convey a sense of youth, happiness, and love. The content would include pictures, articles, interviews and reviews to keep readers informed on trends in the pop-rock world.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

1. Unit 13 – Planning and Pitching a Print based Media Product - Proposal
Name: Zoe Toulson
Candidate Number:
Centre Number: 64315
Format:
I am going to create a magazine front cover and double page spread (DPS). I will make my front
cover in Photoshop and my DPS in InDesign.
Working Title:
My working title is A. The font style I think is very easy to read and connotes a chilled out vibe to
the reader which may entice them into picking up my magazine. The colour of the masthead will
most probably be white within a red coloured box to make the masthead pop out more. The
masthead will also be placed in the top left hand corner where it is visible.
A Stands for ambitious. Ambitious means that a great amount of effort and skill is needed for a
task to be achieved. This could connote to the reader that a lot of time, effort and hard work has
gone into this magazine.
Genre:
The sub-genre of my magazine is pop-rock, based off of my magazines of inspiration, Billboard
and Q. It will be aimed at both males and females ages 16-23.
Content:
My magazine ‘A’ will be full of pictures, articles, interviews, reviews and the up to date
news within the pop-rock world. The publication will mainly feature bands and artists
who are quite popular; however, there will also be some up coming stars featured. I
would use ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) to attract readers, this means featuring artists such
as Pink, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé on my front covers.
2. Style or Approach:
The denotation of the colour scheme for the magazine front cover will be exciting yet simple. It
will show that my magazine is worth the read and that readers will not be disappointed. I have
chosen to have the masthead white backing onto a blush coloured box as Q have done. This will
then be placed in the top left corner of the front cover the background being the background of
the photo of the artist. The colour blush connotes happiness, love and youth. This connotes to
the reader that the artists featured in my magazine are one of/ all of these things or have these
qualities and that people aspire to be them, therefore making readers want to read about them.
Blush also connotes love, this connoting to audience members that they will love my magazine.
I am going to use Adobe Photoshop CS5 to construct the magazine pages (Front Cover and DPS)
because it is one of the best editing software’s for projects like this where you can insert and edit
images while also adding text to create a professional look to my magazine.
Some of the tools in Adobe Photoshop CS5 that will be particularly beneficial in constructing the
front cover will be the ‘quick selection tool’ as it gives you the ability to crop the background out
of the image to enable a different background to be placed. The ‘magic wand tool’ where you can
cut out the areas that are not needed, for example white areas on social media logos. Finally the
‘ruler tool’ which is used to keep your work neat and tidy. It gives it more a professional look as
everything will be straight and in-line.
Audience:
The audience is a mix of both female and male with the ages between 16-23. I think this is a good
audience to target as most of the followers of pop-rock artists fall within this age category. They
will also be within the socio-economic classes of B-C as they need to have extra money to buy the
magazine while also having spare time to read and acknowledge the content of the magazine. I
will aim to have a mix in ethnicity, as within the pop-rock industry there is also a mix of ethnicity
that has a mixed following base. The stereotypical person who would buy and read my magazine
would be a person who is quite trendy and keeps up with most things that are happening around
them. They would also keep up to date with all the latest fashion and technology while shopping
in shops such as Topshop, Pink (Victoria secret) and River Island.
Length:
I intend to have my magazine A4 size (approx. 8”x11”) and around 32 pages, including the front
and back cover. It would be this length as being published monthly there would be quite a lot of
content to be in it, I would want my magazine to look professional and not cramped into a 16
page magazine, therefore I would spread everything out resulting in more pages.
Frequency:
I will produce my magazine monthly, as this will give me the chance to gather all the recent
relevant information and make my magazine worth reading. If I was to produce it weekly or
fortnightly, it would not have the content I would like and people would not be as interested as I
would have hoped them to be. The price of my magazine will be £3.50 as this is what Q and
Billboard both charge for their magazines, this will mean I will have competition and the audience
may think my magazine is as good as Q and Billboards seeing as I am charging the same price for
them.
