The literature in this field centers on on the different land use theories that would be applicable to
aviation centered spatial development. The early theorictial concepts of airport development focused
on the regional development of the Central Business District (CBDs) where airports were often
located on the outlining areas of cities. Land use around airports was not viewed as an integral
component in the economic vitality of urban planning. Early land use theories included: Concentric
Zone Theory Burgess (1925) which stated that cities grew outwards from the centre in a series of
rings; the Sector Model Hoyt (1939) which detailed that city growth sectors radiated out from the
CBD along transport routes; and Multiple Nuclei Theory Harris and Ullman (1945) which expounded
that as an urban area grows, it develops around a number of different business centres or nuclei. Each

Rwanda is a small landlocked East African country with a rich cultural background and tightly knit
community it was a small country primarily surviving as an agricultural economy, with one of the

July first, 1962, but as tensions rose between the majority population the Hutu, and the minority
population the Tutsi, violence broke out leading to the beginning of a full fledged genocide that began

The sociological perspective that lead to the beginning of this genocide is extremely unique, as most
ethnic conflict and violence in history has occurred due to a conflict within two ethnic groups beliefs

was rather a division of socio economic status between the pastoralists being the Tutsi, and the

service learning in a facility of my choice. For my Service Learning Project, I volunteered at Southern
Hills Christian Church, a local church that my family attends. Southern Hills Christian Church has a

Plants are the major source of vitamin B6 for animals, yet the biosynthesis pathway and the function
of vitamin B6 in plants are not well elucidated. In this study, an Arabidopsis pyridoxine synthase gene
PDX1 was characterized and its in vivo functions were investigated. The PDX1 gene was expressed in
all plant parts examined and its expression level was not significantly regulated by abiotic stress or the
phytohormone abscisic acid. In roots, PDX1 was highly expressed in a defined region behind the root
tips that undergoes rapid cell division. The PDX1 protein was mainly associated with the plasma
membrane and endomembranes, implying a potential involvement of vitamin B6 in membrane
function. To reveal the in vivo role of PDX1, Arabidopsis insertional mutants were isolated. Strikingly,
the pdx1 knockout mutants were impaired in root growth and early seedling development. The stunted
roots resulted from both reduced cell division and elongation. Supplementation of the growth media
with pyridoxine or reintroduction of the wild type PDX1 gene into the mutants completely restored the
mutant growth, demonstrating that PDX1 is required for pyridoxine biosynthesis in planta. In addition
to the developmental defects, pdx1 mutants are hypersensitive to osmotic stress and oxidative stress.

Regarding the Stanford Pathways of Public Service and Civic Engagement survey, I have mixed
feelings. Although I agree with my results and have minimal difficulty in making sense of my results,
I feel that the information is not in depth enough to truly be extremely helpful. My results personally

I have some experience with all of the kinds of public service/civic engagement, except for social

reflection. Once I overcame the fear of screwing up the project, I was finally able to get to work and
spit out some pretty good material. My third tag is Resiliency . I thought about combining resiliency
and fear of failure but the more that I thought about it, I realized that they were completely different.
Resiliency deals with the extreme amount of effort that I put into each any ever piece that I brought to
class even though I would rather be doing literally anything else. It also covers all of the times when I
had no clue what I was doing and had to start over from scratch, even though I could have easily
turned in a piece that would have received an okay grade. Differences is my fourth tag. The idea of
differences first came to me when we were working on the Op Doc analysis and each had videos that
were all polar opposites of each other. Not only were the styles of our Op Docs different, but so were
the styles in which we wrote our analyses. In high school we learn how to do everything just like one
another, but in college we finally open our eyes and see that being different is what makes us who we
are. My final tag is Creative Edge . It took me to the late half of the semester to finally find my
creative edge. Because it took me so long to find it, I had started to think that

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Part of the torture is that the burden of guilt feels unending because you cannot undo the past
(Matsakis 119). In the book, Survivors Guilt by Aphrodite Matsakis, Ph. D, where Matsakis depicts
what and why living with PTSD is unbearable. Matsakis explains that guilt is the root of PTSD. There
is a never ending list of things to be guilty about after leaving a war, mainly; wishing you could get
the health back of the injured, get back the lives that were taken and closure with soldiers you thought
could have been saved. If the thoughts of these things could have closure and be let go, the survivor s
guilt would be surrendered. The quote, Guilt demands punishment (119), explains in such simple
terms of why the root of PTSD is guilt. If the guilt is released, then the negative thoughts, feelings of
hatred, anger and what ifs would all disappear. Addiction and abuse are two common disorders that
people often inherit while attempting to coupe with their PTSD. Alcoholism and drug abuse are
brought on by the tremendous amounts of stress and guilt felt when suffering from PTSD. The anxiety
and physiological arousal (adrenaline reactions) created by feelings of survivor guilt can play a major
role in the origin and perpetuation of any form of addiction (Matsakis 121). The high and numbness
that is associated with alcohol and drugs gives a short term relief from the guilt and pain felt from
PTSD. After the short term relief is worn off, the veterans suffering often feel

Drinking And Drug Habits For College Students
In my opinion, the E CHUG assessment is very important for college students to complete. The
program was very easy to navigate and initiated deeper thinking about drinking and drug habits in my
own life. I think it was very valuable to go through the different checkpoints of physical and social
effects, monetary costs, and risks of alcohol use because alcohol affects many different factors of
someone s life, and it is important to evaluate and check in with yourself on how each of those factors
of your life are going. For example, I have never really thought about how drinking affected the
amount of money I have to spend on other things I need to have, like textbooks. After completing a
series of questions, the assessment gives you a personalized report on how you compare to other
people with drinking, and how much drinking is affecting your life on a statistical basis. This was
thought provoking and individualized because the statistics are directly correlated to your own life.
While evaluating the comparisons section of my results, I thought it was interesting how
overestimated my guesses on how many students drink heavily and use drugs during a typical week
were. When asked how many students at UW Madison have two drinks or less in a typical week, I
estimated it to be around 40%, while the actual result from surveys resulted in around 25%. Being
surrounded by such a drinking culture in Madison and having this university labeled the number one
party school in America,

Operation Varsity Case Study
Towards the end of World War II Operation Varsity took place at Wessel, Germany which involved
more than 16,000 paratroopers and several thousands of aircraft. The goal of this operation was to help
secure multiple locations along the Northern portion of the Rhine River to allow the Allied forces to
secure a foothold in Western Germany and then peruse Northern Germany. Operation Varsity was

In 1868, the 14th amendment to the constitution officially declared those born on U.S soil citizens of
the state, and forbade the states to deny any person the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness
(Berger). This amendment, originally created for newly freed African American slaves as a means to
declare them as equal individuals under the law, has somehow been manipulated as a tool for large
corporations (The Corporation). The Corporation, a 2003 documentary written by law professor Joel
Bakan, examines the pathological character of modern corporations. The documentary analyzes the
behaviors and economic influence of many common North American corporations such as Nike Inc.,
Coca Cola Co. and Sears Co and the increasing awareness of the harm many of these corporations are
causing both locally and nationally. The Corporation pleads it s viewers to recognize lack of social
responsibility, and hold modern corporation s accountable for their actions (Bansal).

Across the globe there has been a massive influx of refugees seeking refuge and help. This is in a large
part due to the extreme violence occurring in the Middle East, but it also stems from people leaving

For each person who claims asylum in Canada, the government spends between $15,000 and $20,000
(Forrest 2017). Considering just how many people are coming in and filing for asylum, that is quite a

While millions of people can easily be seen as holding sales jobs, the promotional techniques used in
selling are also part of the day to day activities of many who are usually not directly associated with
selling. For instance, top corporate executives whose job title is CEO or COO are continually selling

One key advantage personal selling has over other promotional methods is that it is a two way form of
communication. In selling situations the message sender (e.g., salesperson) can adjust the message as

they gain feedback from message receivers (e.g., customer). So if a customer does not understand the
initial message (e.g., doesn t fully understand how the product works) the salesperson can make
adjustments to address questions or concerns. Many non personal forms of promotion, such as a radio
advertisement, are inflexible, at least in the short term, and cannot be easily adjusted to address
audience questions.
