Seismic Imaging Project
Seismic imaging is a tool that bounces sound waves off underground rock structures to reveal
possible crude oil and natural gas bearing formations. Ultra sensitive devices named as geophones
are used by the seismologists to document the sound waves as the echo in the earth. After the short
research on the echoes, geologists start calculating the depth and systems of buried geologic
formations. This kind of evaluation may assist them to identify oil and gas bearing reservoirs
which are hiding underneath the earth s surface. Most of the energy agencies been used to seismic

The critical infrastructure includes telecommunication, transportation, energy, banking, finance,
water supply, emergency services, government services, agriculture, and other fundamental systems
and services that are critical to the security, economic prosperity, and social well being of the public.
The critical infrastructure is characterized by interdependencies and complexity. Cyber
interdependencies are a result of the pervasive computerization and automation of infrastructures.
The critical infrastructure disruptions can, directly and indirectly, affect other infrastructures,
impact large geographic regions, and send ripples throughout the national and global economy. For
example, under normal operating conditions, the electric power infrastructure requires fuels,
transportation, water, banking and finance, telecommunication, and SCADA systems for
monitoring and control. There is a growing concern about the security and safety of the SCADA
control systems in terms of vulnerabilities, lack of protection, and awareness. Therefore,
information security management principles and processes need to be applied to SCADA systems
without exception. 3. Discuss the pros and cons of moving enterprise wide applications that have

Elizabethan Era Dbq Essay
The Elizabethan Era took place from 1558 to 1603. The Elizabethan era is also known as the
Golden age and was during Elizabeth I reign. This epoch in English history witnessed many
threats and changes in the tide of social, political and artistic life in England. This epoch was
during the time of the Renaissance and was an age of exploration and expansion abroad. This
was the last period before England joined a union with Scotland. Elizabeth I was Queen of
England and Ireland from 17th November 1558 until her death in 1603. She was also known as

It Is I, Donato Bramante
It is I, Donato Bramante. Through mysterious circumstances that I cannot yet explain, I have
somehow managed to travel into the future. I am told it is the year 2015, and I am in the land
that the man named Columbus recently discovered! It is said this land is called Washington . Last
thing I knew, it was the year 1514, and I was a sickly man in Rome. I m feeling much better now.
Luckily there is a magnificent building right down the road from me called the United States Capitol
Building. I feel like I am back at home in Rome when I see such a building! The people of this
strange land say this building houses the government of their country. I find this hard to believe. A
building as large, and as grand as this should be a home of God, a... Show more content on

These columns are known as the Corinthian Order. My plan for St. Peter s called for these same
columns to circle the largest dome of the basilica. The Capitol Building pulls this same strategy
off perfectly! Surely, the architects of the building known as William Thorton, Benjamin Henry
Latrobe, and Charles Bulfinch (SOURCE), must have drew upon my plan of St. Peter s for
inspiration. I am not sure if they knew this or not, but I also used classical columns on another
masterpiece of mine that is known as the Tempietto at San Pietro in Montorio (SOURCE).
Unlike at St. Peter s, at the Tempietto I used the Doric order of columns (SOURCE). I find both
orders to be great outlets of my artistic abilities, and both pleasing to the eye. Besides the
columns, another feature of the Capitol Building that I have marvelous is the beautiful, gigantic,
dome in the center. I used a dome structure on both of my famous works that I mentioned before,
namely my plan for St. Peters, and the Tempietto at San Pietro in Montorio (SOURCE). I would
say, however, that the dome on the Capitol is much larger (SOURCE)! Especially compared to
that of my Tempietto. It must have taken master craftsmen many years to complete such a feat in
architecture and engineering (SOURCE). While I do find the dome to be a great work, I think it
may be a little too different from the great domes of my work. Compared to my dome of St.
Peters, the Capitol s dome seems to

The United States Housing Bubble Crisis
6.3 TRILLION DOLLARS! This is how much the value of homes have fallen in the United
States since its real estate peak back in July of 2006. After the price of houses peaked in 2006,
they gradually started to decline until December 30th, 2008. This is when the Case Shiller home
price index which measured the value of homes, reported its largest price decrease in its entire
history. From there we saw prices continue to decline until we hit all time lows in 2012. The United
States housing bubbleburst will be talked about for years to come including many what caused it
and how to prevent such occurrences in the future. Low interest rates, Housing bubble, subprime
mortgages, as well as securitization all contributed to the housing market crash of 2008 and will all
be explained in this paper. According to the general consensus, most people believe that the housing
bubble was the main cause of the 2007 2009 economic recession in the United States of America.
LOW INTEREST RATES
Mortgage rates in the United States hit an all time high in the early 1980 s at 18% in order to
combat and push inflation out of the economy. Over the next 20 25 years, interest rates continued
to fall and even fell below 6% in 2002. Although there was a large amount of debt going on in the
United States at the time with little to no saving habits, interest rates were kept low by large
amounts of investments into the U.S housing markets from outside countries like China, Japan,
Brazil and the United

Local Foods And Local Food
The local food movement connects both producers and consumers in the same geographic region
which develops a more community reliant food system. Local foods impact the local community,
environment, one s health, and the overall society. Local food does not have a definite answer, but
it does involve many subjects which are all distinguishable throughout the food system. Local food
could also represent the distance from the farm to the table. If local food is distributed straight
to a food hub, or a farmers market, or a grocery store, then the food could be considered local. If
the food is distributed to a manufacturer, or a warehouse that delivers the food to a grocery store,
then the food would not be considered local. This would not be considered local because the
food is being carried to multiple different areas which increases food miles. There are many
goals that are put in place from many local food supporters that involve food hubs, community
gardens, and farmer markets that all want to create a more sustainable local food system. Local
food systems help the local economy and allows consumers to buy products from their local
farmers, and communities. Some urban areas are in high risk of poverty and it does not allow for
locals to buy healthy foods for their families. They are at risk for their health from the foods they
have to buy considering what they can and cannot afford. Also, there are many urban communities
who are creating a more local food system for their

Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting Essay
Psych: Drug Addiction
The meeting I attended was held in Millersville University at Lehr Hall at 9:30 Am. I attended the
meeting alone and was initially very hesitant and uncomfortable with the idea. At the beginning not
unexpected occurred really happened. It appeared to be a very informal meeting that everyone
seemed to already be acquainted. All the members directed each other by name and I was
welcomed by, what seemed to be, a regular attendee as well as a new member. I sat down and
initiated conversation with the member next to me. She informed me that she goes to multiple
meetings and this was her first time at the specific location. She asked me of my major and other

This put the topic more towards forgiveness rather than anything else. The only topic discussed,
as I recall, was forgiveness. Many members gave their accounts of moments in which they felt
sorry and how they handled the situation. I will refrain from going into further detail about any
of the members of the group to keep their anonymity. The meeting concluded with the serenity
prayer. I was not familiar with this prayer so I just held the hands of those near me and bowed
my head out of respect. Specific attendees of the meetings appeared more active and attentive
than others. Some of them seemed as though they did not want to be there and looked miserable.
About one or two of the members even fell asleep a couple of times. Maybe some members went
because they had to or because they just wanted to help tell themselves that they are trying. This
really interested me because it is important to take notice that some people go and progress due
to being active and others are just forced. In the case of being forced it is very easy to go to the
meeting and just not be attentive or active. During the meeting I felt very enlightened. The topic
of forgiveness is very broad and is even relevant in my own life. The viewpoint on the topic was
very different and interesting. They talked more about being forgiving of ourselves because we
are the ones that cause ourselves to react negatively to life s daily hassles and stressors. They also
spoke on the control

How the French Presidential Elections will Affect the Entire World
After rejecting the two major political parties in the first round, the French voters will choose their
new president. What will the election result mean for the world?
After the Brexit results in the UK and Trump s election in the US, France is next to face the
challenge of elections on May the 7th for their second round. Debating the subject is William
Callanan, 45, an American citizen living in Britain for the last 15 years and partner at Keysquare
Capital Management. He agreed in an interview to share his opinion on how the French elections
will have a major impact across the world. But first, let s meet the candidates.

Callanan thinks Macron will align with Fillon on the centre right, making Le pen garner less votes,
suggesting the first round s outcome is an indication of what the ending bias will likely be.
Will a new president be the end of old politics in France? Just over a month after the new
president will be elected, she/he will start building their coalition in the Assembly Nationale. It
will be a real challenge for both, says Callanan as a new party has never gained a majority. He
paused. But Macron has a better chance than Le Pen.
One important issue that the new president will need to address is on the national security, as
terrorist attacks are at their peek right now in France. While Le Pen is focused on immigration,
Macron is focused on adding 50,000 police and specialised training. When asked who will appeal
more to the public, Callanan said people become more accustomed to these events and the shock
effect is mitigated. Think of what it is like living in Beirut...
Will Le Pen s claim of deporting all foreigners suspected of a connection to radical Islamism make
France safer? Definitely not, replied Mr. Callanan, on the contrary, the anti immigration and anti
Islam stance can be taken too far and be counter productive.
Le Pen has said that France should be less naive as it became a jihadi university. Will her
presidency affect the relations with the Middle East? Which key policies should France pursue in

Outline the Contribution of Marxism to Our Society Essay
OUTLINE THE CONTRIBUTION OF MARXISM TO OUR UNDERSTANDING OF SOCIETY
Marxism is an ideology based on the economic and political theories of Karl Marx and Freidrich
Engels. Karl Marx who was born in Germany in 1818 was a revolutionary whose ideas on society
were the foundation of communism. Under modern capitalism the means of production, such as
factories, land, and technology are controlled by a small minority who Marx called the
bourgeoisie. Production is carried out by the working class, known as the proletarians who have to
sell their labour or face poverty or starvation. Taken together these two classes form the economic
base of society, what Marx called the substructure. Marx saw that there was conflict between these
two divisions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
American sociologists, (Bowles et al 1976) maintain there is a close correspondence between
the social relationships which govern school and work. This correspondence principle link work
and education with its system of hierarchies and rules which prepare people for a subservient
role in the workplace, by exploiting them as servants of a capitalist system, and continuing to
perpetuate class stratification. (Giddens, A. 1997) The education system disguises this with its
myth of meritocracy (Haralambos et al p 604) Cultural deprivation theorists suggest middle class
children have advantage over WC, in that at an early age they are socialised and exposed to
books, music and technology known as cultural capital. According to (Bordieu et al 1977)
education is biased in favour of the culture of the dominant social class and WC culture is devalued.
In an attempt to test Bordieus theory (Sullivan, 2001) carried out a social survey on pupils
approaching school leaving age in 1998 and found that pupils cultural capital was strongly
correlated with parents cultural capital...which in turn was closely linked to their social class She
also found significant differences in exam results between WC and MC children even when the
effects of cultural capital had been taken into account which tended to support in part Bourdieus
theory. (Haralambas cites Keddie, N. 1973) who argues that culture deprivation is a myth. It

Cinematography In Batman Begins
What is cinematography? Cinematography is the ability to transform and capture all moving aspect
of a motion picture. This process cannot be acquired without the help of the cinematographer
whose job is to make sure that the shot, take and setup match the views of the director in order to
depict the story of the film. The shot, take and setup fall within four broader categories: The
cinematographic properties of the shot, the framing of the shot, the speed and length of the shot
and the special effects each of which help intrigued the audience and impel them to watch the film.
Film stock, lighting and lenses make up the cinematographic properties of the shot. In the film,
Batman Begins the cinematographer used a mixture of black, white and color film stock.

Yet, both types of film stock incorporate the use of light. Lighting shapes how the lenses will
capture the pictures that will guide the audience throughout the story. There are two types of
light: natural and artificial, which come from different sources. Natural light comes from nature
such as the sun and artificial light come from instruments. Depending on the direction of the
light and its source the quality of the picture will be affected. In Batman Begins a scene that
stood out the most as a good representation of the properties of the shot is when Bruce Wane is
trying to keep a spear head away from Rachel. In this scene, he tries to hind inside of an old well

Craftsmanship In Art
The ancient sculptures, paintings, and arts are used to enhance a leader s image. The use of art

Cultural Context Part B
To study the cultural context of Sive and Children of Men means to examine the world of each
and the values and attitude of the people in these worlds. The worlds created in Sive and Children
of Men are very distinct but also have many parallels. Both texts explore the concepts of family,
love, fear and control.
The setting of each text was paramount in informing me about the attitudes and values of that
time. Each text depicts an oppressive and controlled society. Children of Men is set in the year
2027, in the future, which contrasts to Sive which is set in the 1950 s, in the past. Children of

Similarly in Sive , Sive is a young girl growing up in 1950 s Ireland. There is nothing special
about Sive. Both protagonists receive motivation to stand up for what they believe in. In
children of Men , Theo needs to be bribed at first before he gets motivated. However after he is
bribed Theo learns something which gives him hope and drives him on. Kee the lady he is
protecting is pregnant with the first baby in 18 years, your baby is the miracle the world has
been waiting for . This displays Theo s newfound hope; it is this hope that gives him purpose.
Similarly Sive also receives a reason to hope which also gives her purpose. Liam Scuab and Sive
fall in love. After being matched with Sean Dota it is her love for Liam Scuab that drives her to
rebel against the match. Sive, I love you are the words that give Sive purpose to rebel against
society. Both Alfonso Cuaron and John B. Keane have created situations for the protagonists where
they are forced to rebel in order to get what they believe in.
Both texts explore the ideas of love and marriage. In Children of Men Theo was married to
Julian and they had a son called Dylan. However baby Dylan died and their grief drove them apart
and destroyed their family. In contrast to this, in Sive Sive and Liam are only beginning their
relationship and face many problems together. In Children of Men Julian and Theo were allowed to

Media In Media
The effects of media consumption on behavioral tendencies have long been the subject of both
popular and academic scrutiny. Specifically, it is widely accepted that over exposure to
depictions of violence in media can lead to desensitization to violent content and even short term
aggressive behavior. From a psychological perspective (but not from a sociological one), this is
hard to dispute as there are numerous studies which confirm this phenomenon although these
studies have also been the victim of sensationalist interpretations and representations. Essentially
what has been postulated is a simple cause and effect relationship: media exposure leads to a
behavioral change. And as of recently, video games, in particular, have been the subject of
increased scrutiny in the context of this relationship and once again there is evidence to support
such a relationship. However, a review of available data published by the American
Psychological Association (Granic, Lobels, Engels, 2014) has suggested that another, more
positive cause and effect relationship may be at work with this type of media as it has grown in
visibility and mainstream acceptance. One such trend that has emerged from a review of
multiple studies is that playing video games can result in an increase in problem solving skills.
This has largely gone overlooked by the popular press and the public at large who instead continue
to focus on the link to aggressive behavior. And it is also important to consider that the findings of
the APA do not disprove this link; this potential increase in problem solving ability and the separate
increase of aggressive tendencies are not necessarily mutually exclusive to one another. In fact, it is
entirely likely that there is one singular reason that both occur as a result of playing video games:
interactivity. Interactivity in the context of video games constitutes a deep immersion in an
entertaining fiction at a level that other visual media cannot match. James Paul Gee (2007) clarifies
this point further nothing happens until a player acts and makes decisions... words and deeds are
all placed in the context of an interactive relationship between the player and the world. And
ultimately, an interactive

The Neolithic Settlement Of Catal Huyuk
The Anatolian Neolithic settlement of Catal Huyuk, which means forked mound, dates between
7000 and 5000 B.C.E. was one of the world s first towns and the oldest civilizations on earth.
Located in the Konya Plain in central Turkey, Catal Huyuk was considered the wheat growing
region. The main mound covered 32 acres and stood 57 feet above the plain with a distance of
3,000 feet above sea level. The population was estimated at upwards of 5,000 people, which was
based on the site and the cluster of houses. Mount Hasan, an inactive stratovolcano, located
approximately 87 miles from Catal Huyuk was painted on walls in homes depicting the
importance of the volcano. Obsidian was collected and used for trading in Catal Huyuk and
considered the first organized city state. Catal Huyuk was considered a religious and trade center.
The economy was centered on agriculture, manufacture, and the trade of raw and finished
products. Considered a farming community, plants such as wheat, barley and peas, as well as, a

Margaret Sanger Biography Essay
Margaret Sanger was one of the most influential women of the progressive era. While both a
suffragist and an avid women s rights advocate, she worked tirelessly on her goal to create a safe
and effective birth control method, though many people thought her work to be evil and
sacrilegious. But despite her opposition, she was in the end successful and inspired countless others

Sanger grew up in a large family and while working as a nurse, she saw first the many problems

She believed it was her duty to place motherhood on a higher level than enslavement and
accident (Sanger) and in doing so, make motherhood an option. Up to this point in history, that
was considered a woman s duty to have and raise children, but Sanger saw things differently.
Sanger saw the desperation of the women who had more children than they could handle and
wanted to make a difference. Sanger collected 250,000 letters from women and published them
in a book called Motherhood in Bondage, which contained messages from these women. One
particularly moving one reads I have two small children twenty months apart, the baby now
seven weeks old and am twenty one years myself. You might know what this means to me to
care for two babies at this age when it simply stopped my being with my friends who can still be
free to go, although I would do anything for my two children to help them go through a decent
life. I am constantly living in fear of becoming pregnant again so soon (I am a prisoner). This
seems to be an accurate account of motherhood in this time period and shows the great need for
birth control which Sanger responded to with her continuous work. By creating the ability to
control the number of children a woman had, Sanger enabled families to escape the financial and
health troubles that often

Prospero And Ariel s Relationship Quotes
For Ariel, he has Prospero s name engraved in his heart to signify that Ariel belongs to Prospero
and must do his bidding. The character also has a backbone made from gold chains to
demonstrate that Ariel is Prospero s personal slave, but is trying to get freedom, he is close to
his goal as gold is a weak metal that can be broken easily. Within the character s eyes, bird is
written inside to signify the character s ultimate desire to be free in the wild just as how birds can
fly freely. Ariel also stands on top of welcome mat to show the character s peaceful nature that
makes him beloved by his master. Prosperos hand is being held by Ariel s hand to show the strong

Prospero states, Why, that s my dainty Ariel. I shall miss thee, [but] yet thou shalt have freedom.
So, so, so. To the king s ship, invisible as thou art. The quote takes up the final words of Prospero
to Ariel in that Ariel has gained freedom, which has been the character s ultimate goal throughout
the play. Then in Act 4, Scene 1, Ariel sates, Before you can say Come and Go, And breathe twice
and cry So, so! Each one, tripping on his toe, will be here with mop and mow. Do you love me,
master, no? Ariel is wanting his master s approval stating that he is loyal person who wants to

Act 1, Scene 2 in which Caliban is called, Thou liest, malignant thing! Hast thou forgot. The foul

Football Reflection
In this story, I am going to share an experience with you about a lesson that I learned last year
during the football season. It will include some graphic details, a deeper look into my thoughts and
feelings, and much more. This is the story that helped change my whole mindset of football. This is
what Friday night lights is all about.
During the last football season, I suffered an injury that I thought was going to affect me in such a
negative way. But it turns out, even though it was one of the most painful things I ve experienced,
it ended up being one of the best things to happen to me. My whole mindset on the game of
football changed for the better, and it made me into the great player I am today.
It was homecoming night against the powerhouse Taylorville, it was cold, rainy, and the field
turned into a swamp of mud, sweat, and blood. It was time for the game to start. Taylorville came
out on offense and on the very first play of the game, Parker Stokes ran a 63 yard touchdown. It was
one of the many spirit breakers of the night. It was time for us to return the favor, we came out
on offense on the 20 yard line. We had 80 yards to go, and it felt more like 1,000. With all the
rain we couldn t pass the ball, so we handed the ball off to our all star running back Terrence Hill,
we drove the ball 56 yards on 6 plays. We were doing great until all of a sudden nothing went right
for us. We got stuffed at the line of scrimmage on the next two plays and then, the

The Classical Style Of The Ancient Greece And The United...
Neo Classicism in France and the United States
The classical style of the ancient Athens, derived from Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome in the
15th century, has had a universal impact on many cultures during previous time periods. The
classical period reflected traditional forms focused on symmetry and elegance; it flourished during
the time of the Renaissance through artist such as Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo De Vinci.
The artists main goal was to attain the absolute beauty in their art by showing emotion through
detail, almost through perfection. Some examples of well known classical arts during the
Renaissance were Belvedere Torso and the Medici Venus . In the 17th century the classical style
was revived, now called the neo classical style. It was born in Rome but its popularity flourished all
over Europe. The neo classical movement clashed with the age of Enlightment and continued
through the 19th century. The neo classical principles were based around the same characteristics
as the classical arts such as: balance, proportion, order, simplicity, clarity, and reason. It was
strongest in architect, sculpture, and decorative arts. The neo classical style continued to spread
throughout the world and became sought after in the 17th and 18th century in countries such as
France and The United States, and it influenced some of the greatest government buildings in
America.
Neoclassicism can be seen as a political movement as well as an artistic and cultural one.

The Evolution Of Film Noir
The film noir genre first appeared in the early 1940s and has grown since their first appearance on
screen. While there are various definitions and aspects that can define this genre, it is usual
depicted as having an anti hero set in a realistic setting while trying to fight inner demons and the
outer world surrounding problems simultaneously. As any genre, it has noticeable tropes that can
place it within this spectrum. Over the years, since the first decade of film noir, society has changed,
causing the genre to adapt. The changes are not limited to being on film, but also to those within
other forms of media, such as television and literature. Rather than focusing upon one area, it is
better to look on it as a whole. Headhunters is a more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Final Essay Prompt Question 3 Mysticism As Core Religion
Throughout the world today, Mysticism plays a vital role in any and all religions as it yields a
connection to a higher power through the use of prayer and/or meditation. Though the exact
definition of Mysticism is unclear and no amount of words could sufficiently describe all
experiences one has made through this act, it can only be fully described as mystical. Throughout
the teachings held within this course, the conclusion has been made that Mysticism is essentially
the core of all religious practices. Amidst the use of personal experience, religious traditions, and
settings the occurrence of a mystical event is present in all religious activities and is the heart of
all things holy. Personal experiences within the mystical realms of religions tend to set a confirmed
believing in whichever religion one is practicing. For example, if one were established as being
Christian, their mysticism of personal experience would relate to feeling God in their heart

The book is focused around her life in general, and how she emerged from being the person she

was interesting that she didn t specialize in her sport until she was older when she realized what
she wanted to shoot for and also how she dealt with her mental illness intruding on her

Analysis Of O Pioneers By Willa Cather
O Pioneers by Willa Cather is a different novel from those of its time. It is a novel that stands for
women equality represented by the main character Alexandra. O Pioneers reveals a story about
Alexandra s struggle against nature and being a strong woman in a male dominated profession
and society. She succeeded in establishing her female identity and achieved a sense of female self
fulfillment by transforming the wild land and struggling for her equal rights with men. This paper
focuses on the feminist thoughts and pioneering spirit of the great image of the heroine Alexandra,
who was independent, brave, and optimistic. Getting strength and courage from her such spirit,
Alexandra would never be defeated by either men or nature. One January day, thirty years ago, the
little town of Hanover, anchored on a windy Nebraska tableland, was trying not to be blown away

some of their children go to relax after the long working season. Of those community members,
resides young Alexandra Bergeson who was with her younger brother Emil. She was a tall
strong girl who was driven. She wore a man s long ulster (not as if it were an affliction, but as if
it were very comfortable and belonged to her; carried it like a young soldier), and a round plush
cap, tied down with a thick veil (Cather, 1987, p.2.). Although the description of Alexandra s

Three stages are faced by most school aged children. Stage three, initiative vs. guilt, is for
preschoolers. If they are given freedom to imagine, be responsible, take decisions, to plan, then
tendency toward initiative will be encouraged. However, if children are always restricted and
not shown any appreciation for their ideas or decisions, they will feel guilty about acting on
their own. The fourth stage, industry vs. inferiority, is for students of elementary and middle
school. Children are encouraged to do things well and finish tasks. They are praised for their
achievements and they develop self confidence and industry. But, children who fail to achieve or
who are constantly criticized will be left with the feeling of inferiority. Identity vs. role
confusion is the fifth stage faced by adolescence, from 12 18 years. In this stage, adolescents seek
their true selves and identity through exploration of different behaviors, values, and beliefs. If
adolescent succeeds, identity develops and if they don t, it results into role confusion. When an
adolescent is challenged by role confusion, Erikson said, that adolescent is suffering from an
identity crisis. Understanding sense of self is important in this stage of the theory in order to find
success in next stages. If an adolescent gets stuck at this stage, he or she will be unable to

The Characteristics Of German Expressionism
When emphasizing on Expressionism, it is difficult to describe the German Expressionism in a
suitable manner, one that will paint the picture for passing verbal inquires. Its ominous tones,
gloomy faces, eerie image, they are by design dependent on self experience to understand. Suiting
the artistic styles of Expressionism, popularized the likes of Vincent van Gogh and Edward Munch,
German Expressionismstands out to produce images that will express more subjective feelings to
the viewer than the realistic portrayals of ordinary images (Darsa par. 1 2). After world war 2, the
Weimar Republic took control of the UFA, a film community that began in World war 1 producing
German propaganda, with a new direction of showing Germany s greatness by cultivating their own
talent and stylings (Gazetas p41).
Normally, defining German Expressionism without observing it in a way that you normally should
would tarnish its achievements. The German Expressionist cinema pay a critical attention to detail
towards films mise en scene. It is a landmark that is common in most of the great films such as
Fritz Lang s Metropolis, F.W. Murnau s Nosferatu, and Robert Wiene s The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
.As stated by Aristides Gazetas that the [German Expressionism] was developed upon the ways
cinema images could evoke psychological states of being (p41).

The impact on the African slave trade during 16th centuries to 19th centuries was huge. The
economy of those countries which allowed African slave trade grew bigger and bigger. For

Is King Arthur Real Or Real
For years, historians and scholars have been questioning the truth behind the great King known as
King Arthur. His power and legend have influenced many modern aspects as well as having a direct
effect on various components of British history. Yet, there is not definitive proof as to whether or
not this man was real. King Arthurs story has been told for years upon years and is considered to
be on the of the most heroic legends of all time, but the question still remains: Is King Arthur
real? King Arthur s legend is based off of a true King that was able to defend Britain from a
Saxon invasion. History says that this King was extremely heroic and brave. It is this great
King that the legend comes from. The first time King Arthur s name is mentioned is in the
writings of a Welsh historian, Nennius. He often references to a powerful King named Arthur,
who helped the Britain in twelve specific and real battles. The only problem with this is that it is
impossible for one man to have fought in all said battles. These battles took place all over the
country of Britain and over the course of around a hundred years. It is physically impossible for
one man to have fought in all twelve battles. Ignoring the facts, various Welsh painters decided to
paint the famed King Arthur that Nennius spoke so highly of. Their creation of King Arthur led
to the spread of the mighty King s fame. Nennius s tales went on to spark fire for years to come.

The Current State Of Water Supply
Introduction
Water, although considered a renewable resource is not available for infinite use as only six
percent of the world s total supply is fresh water. Only this fresh water can be directly used for daily
human needs and thus the amount of water actually available for use is much lower than the total
amount of water present on the earth. The limited amount of water then poses the issue of water
scarcity in some areas and makes the wise use and sustainable management of water extremely
important. To ensure this sustainable management of water and prevent any misuse, it is important
to have an appropriate institutional framework that looks after the water supply. The lack of a
proper framework in the past has lead to the shifting of water management from the hands of the
government to the private sector (Prasad, 2007).
The purpose of writing this essay is to look into the current state of water supply, the issues
surrounding the water supply and the correct method to overcome the prevailing issues. This essay
will answer the question is privatization of water the solution to solving the current water crisis in
different parts of the world? I will argue for the need of a public private partnership to ensure a
balance between the private sector and the government. In Section (1) of the essay I will talk about
the failings in the current water system and the reasons leading to a shift towards privatization.

provide funds or assets to the Nicaraguan contra fighter to aid them to overthrow their Marxist
government. However, it was money gained from Iran weapons deals. The affair took place around
the year 1980s and had two initiatives. First, was the agreement to help Contrasthat were at war
with the Sandinista Government of Nicaragua. Secondly, was the use of placating moderators within
Iran government to make deals with us to extend the hold of American hostages and influence
foreign policy. This conspiracy would alter the general public... Show more content on

What they predicted came to live. The united states congress enacted a law named Boland
Amendments. The Boland Amendment was a law that prohibited the C.I.A, Defense Dept., and
other government facilities to aid the Nicaragua war going on. From December 1983 to
September 1985. With no funds continue the Reagan administration decided they would keep a
hidden profile from the public, Congress, and the nation. They were able to go around the law
by also using the national security council. The NSC (national security council) directed by John
Poindexter and Robert McFarlane used private funds to help the contras succeed in their plans.
Nonetheless, in 1985 while Iran and Iraq were at each other s throats, Iran proposed a request to
buy weapons from the united states. The general Mcfarlane needed confirmation from Ronald,
despite the law prohibiting sales weapons to conflicted nations, such as Iraq and Nicaragua.
Mcfarlane believed that establishing a bond with Iran would not only lead to better relations
with the U.S but also a greater relations with Lebanon, increasing U.S influence. In august

Poachers Kill Magnificent Animals for Profit Essay
Lions and tigers, oh my! Some know animals such as these to be scary; other people understand
these animals to be a beautiful creation of Earth. Whether you are afraid of mighty beasts or
simply in awe of them, it astonishes many people when they realize how few of them are still
alive. Rhinoceroses, elephants, leopards, tigers, African lions, and many more creatures are all
considered an endangered species, and we are the reason they are deemed that way. The one
element all of those animals have in common is that they are valuable. Rhinoceroses are treasured
for their horns; Elephants for their tusks. Lions, tigers, and leopards are all wanted for their skins.
These magnificent beings are some of the main sources for poachers. Before... Show more content

If any main predator species were to become extinct then prey species would no longer have any
factors regulating their population. Therefore, the prey would have an overproduction of offspring
which would cause a decrease in the plant life and have continuous damage down to the bottom of
the food chain. Eventually, the major disaster that would occur is the exhaustion of the food supply.
Even though poaching may seem unstoppable because of its supply and demand methods, many
people and countries have banded together to help stop the destruction of species and the
detriments that follow. One organization that is attempting to stop poaching is the Environmental
Investigation Agency. The EIA has spread awareness to many different areas and has been
informing the public about how vulnerable ecosystems are and the repercussions that will result if
poaching continues. It also educates people on the simple ways they can help reduce poaching
such as refusing any illegal animal items or parts offered to them. The United States, Canada,
Taiwan, and Australia have also participated in the plan to prevent poaching. All four countries
have laws against finning sharks, or the process of removing a shark s fins and then throwing back
the body. Fisherman are allowed to catch sharks in these countries, but they must retrieve all of the
shark and keep it intact. Nearly all countries and major

Place And Road
In this essay, three aspects of place and space will be discussed: the desire for place and space; the
corruption of place and space as well as the lack of place and space. Space is the unlimited extend
in an expanse, and a place is a specific part of space. In Kerouac s work On the Road, the writer
seeks to express the desire of American youth of his timefor freedom through place and space.
Moreover, Kerouac presents the lack of place and space through the narrator s own dissatisfaction to
demonstrate different emotions. Furthermore, the writer explores place and space through the
dynamic of the relationships between the main characters to portray a sense of hope for the readers.
In addition, the three aspects above will be discussed through a film s interpretation.
Kerouac explores the desire for more place and space through Sal s desire to travel away from his
miserable life, as he states that he often dreamed of going West to see the country , in which the
verb dreamed highlights Sal s revelation for freedom, which indicates his aspiration for the coming
adventures. Moreover, Kerouac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Facing Death in Tuesdays with Morrie, the author, Mitch Albom
Through society as a civilization we are constantly being reminded of death. In Tuesdays with
Morrie, the author, Mitch Albom, conveys the story of his professor, Morrie Schwartz, whom is
dealing with a life threatening disease. In his life Mitch is so caught up materialistic possessions
that he begins to lose focus on the true meaning in life. After this realization Mitch comes in
contact with Morrie and writes down on a piece of paper a list, death, fear, aging, greed, marriage,
family, society, forgiveness, and a meaningful life. (66) This list signifies different life lessons that
Mitch knew of, but seemed to have forgotten. The first lesson on the list was death. Through
society, as a civilization, we are constantly being reminded of death. With these constant reminders
we have had to understand that death is a natural occurrence, but have we actually ever come to
terms with the concept of death? Morrie, society, and my own outlook on the concept of death all
have different features that together could form a better understanding of death. When symptoms
arose and a diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis(ASL) was given, Morrie had basically
accepted that his fate was going to indeed result in death. He was an extremely philosophical
character that spoke with words of meaning, whether you noticed it or not to, almost like every
sentence or phrase he said were carefully thought through. Morrie said, It s not contagious, you
know. Death is as natural as life.

Fraud via false financial reporting falls in four categories: 1. Fraudulent financial reporting
reporting false financial performance and overstating the company s earnings and falsifying the
level of liabilities to attract investor s contributions. 2. Misappropriation of assets where high
level personnel utilize illegal schemes to benefit self by the use of cooking financial records,
embezzlement, and theft of employee s retirement accounts. 3. Avoiding paying for costs and
expenses while acquiring assets and revenues fraudulently this takes place in the form of avoiding
paying taxes on all of the company s earning s and where the company liquidates an employee s
pension account and distributes the proceeds among the board members and upper management in
the form of performance bonuses. 4. Expenditures associated with unethical and improper purposes
this type for fraud includes the use of bribery or improper payment schemes to attain financial gain
or business awards that the company may not have been able to achieve using proper business
practices. Anti fraud programs are now implemented under the Sarbanes Oxley by all companies
registered to conduct business in the United States. Such programs are closely monitored, evaluated

Scotland By Professor Rab Houston
This essay is a critical evaluation of the book, Scotland: A Very Short Introduction (hereafter
Scotland) by Professor Rab Houston (Houston 2008). In the argumentative essay I intend to use
this source mainly for historical context and background colour. In this evaluation, I focus on two
criteria: first, I investigate whether this book represents a credible source: I will examine the
authorship, publication and intentions of the work in order to evaluate whether there are any
objections to the use of this source in terms of objectivity or rigorousness. Second, I briefly discuss
the content of the work in order to decide whether the information within will be of use in an
argumentative essay about the issue of Scottish independence.
Professor Houston is Professor of History at St Andrews University in Scotland. He is the author of
nine books and over 80 academic articles and book chapters (University of St Andrews n.d.).
Despite these seemingly impeccable academic credentials, it has been stated that his commission to
write this work was the cause of outrage in some parts of the academic community. Critics point to

Female Love In Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon
In a man s world, women who want must suffer. They are turned away from personal achievement
and forced down a path that encourages a devotional, misguided love. The desperation derived
from this obsessive love inevitably causes destruction to its bearer in Toni Morrison s Song of
Solomon. In her novel, the protagonist Milkman searches for his personal and communal identity
against a backdrop of disenfranchised, lovelorn women, and the reader watches as their inescapable
desires for affection bring women to ruin. Morrison s female characters are constantly wanting,
propelled by their quest for intimacy. In this novel, female loveis all consuming and obsessive to
reflect age old oppressive patriarchal values; women are primarily defined by the men in their lives
and achieving a home and a husband should be paramount for even nonconforming women. This
wreaks havoc on the psyches of Hagar and Corinthians and begets endless anxietyover marriage and
commitment. Through the consistent disintegration of her female characters, Toni Morrison
examines the repressive, traumatic ideal path for women and its prevalence in our and her novel s
society.
As Hagar s love for Milkman grows more and more obsessive, Morrison reveals the bitter
consequences of life as a woman seeking intimacy in a strictly patriarchal world. In the beginning
of the novel, Hagar is associated primarily with her female relatives, Reba and Pilate. Even then,
well fed Hagar declares, Some of my days were hungry

constant geothermal gradient were assumed. The geothermal gradient (dT/dZ) from the CPD (Zb)
to the earth s surface can be derived (Tanaka et al. 1999;

Subculture Analysis Essay example
Description of a Subculture: Gymnastics Competitive Team Culture is the ways of thinking, acting
and the material objects that form a people s way of life. Within each culture there are many
subcultures, which are cultural groups within a larger culture with similar beliefs. Many times, the
subculture a person belongs to provide him/her with a sense of identity and belonging. Subcultures
are characterized by their origin and the characteristics that define it. While growing up I belonged
to many different subcultures, but my main one was my gymnastics competitive team. This was
definitely the most influential and time consuming subculture I was a part of and is considered a

Therefore, this subculture has strong boundary rigidity. Another characteristic of a subculture is
the language/jargon used by its members. Language can refer to the way its members walk,
talk, carry themselves, the slang words used, etc. Within my gymnastics team there was a lot of
language we used that set us apart from other subcultures. The technical terms used in the sport
of gymnastics is one of the obvious language barriers because only those who are familiar with
the sport understand the terms and their meanings. The way gymnasts carry themselves also
sets them apart from others. An example of this is when I was on the track team, a coach
pointed out that I ran like a gymnast. Although I was not with my teammates or talking about
gymnastics, the way I ran was an indicator of the subculture I was associated with. Values are
another characteristic of a subculture. These are the group s ideas about what is right or wrong,
what s important, how they view other people and so forth. As a part of a competitive
gymnastics team, I grew up learning the values my coaches instilled in me time and time again.
Things like hard work, dedication and commitment. As a part of the team, we all valued our
coaches opinions and demands for what we were expected to do. At a young age we learned to
that if you want something, you have to work to get it. We also learned that practicing and being in
the gym was what was important, while free

In 2002 the European Union agreed that from January 2005 international accounting standards
/international financial reporting standards (IASs/IFRSs) would apply for the consolidated
accounts of the EU listed companies (Barth, Landsman, and Lang, 2008). Starting from 2005, IAS
/IFRS adoption has been mandatory in all the member states of the European Union with the
ultimate goal of increasing transparency in financial reporting. This adoption of IAS/IFRS
therefore represents an extraordinary event for empirical research because evidence shows that the
mandatory adoption of IAS/IFRS in Europe results in better quality of financial reporting. In fact,
empirical studies provide some support to the notion that adopting IAS/IFRS improves the quality
of financial reporting and of public information (Palea, 2013).

not the central theme of the book. The topic that does reoccur and therefore proposes itself as

the book, both Frederic Henry and Catherine Barkley had to fight against pain during the times
when Barkley loses her first lover, when Henry suffers from the trench mortar trauma, and when
Henry bids farewell to the dying Barkley. In the opening pages of the book, Hemingway did a
fantastic job in highlighting Barkley s grief for her lost lover. Notably, Barkley had never met
Henry before, but with his mention of the stick which belonged to her fiance, she instinctively
talked with anguish. He was a very nice boy. He was going to marry me and he was killed in the
Somme... He could have had anything he wanted if I would have known (Hemingway 18 19).
Even so, the next night she would allow Henry to give her a kiss. Oh, darling, she said. You will

scene, but in reality, however, Barkley s mind is elsewhere;

The critical infrastructure disruptions can, directly and indirectly, affect other infrastructures, impact large geographic regions, and send ripples throughout the national and global economy. For example, under normal operating conditions, the electric power infrastructure requires fuels, transportation, water, banking and finance, telecommunication, and SCADA systems for monitoring and control. There is a growing concern about the security and safety of the SCADA control systems in terms of vulnerabilities, lack of protection, and awareness. Therefore, information security management principles and processes need to be applied to SCADA systems without exception. 3. • 5. It Is I, Donato Bramante It is I, Donato Bramante. Through mysterious circumstances that I cannot yet explain, I have somehow managed to travel into the future. I am told it is the year 2015, and I am in the land that the man named Columbus recently discovered! It is said this land is called Washington . Last thing I knew, it was the year 1514, and I was a sickly man in Rome. I m feeling much better now. Luckily there is a magnificent building right down the road from me called the United States Capitol Building. I feel like I am back at home in Rome when I see such a building! The people of this strange land say this building houses the government of their country. I find this hard to believe. A building as large, and as grand as this should be a home of God, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These columns are known as the Corinthian Order. My plan for St. Peter s called for these same columns to circle the largest dome of the basilica. The Capitol Building pulls this same strategy off perfectly! Surely, the architects of the building known as William Thorton, Benjamin Henry Latrobe, and Charles Bulfinch (SOURCE), must have drew upon my plan of St. Peter s for inspiration. I am not sure if they knew this or not, but I also used classical columns on another masterpiece of mine that is known as the Tempietto at San Pietro in Montorio (SOURCE). Unlike at St. Peter s, at the Tempietto I used the Doric order of columns (SOURCE). I find both orders to be great outlets of my artistic abilities, and both pleasing to the eye. Besides the columns, another feature of the Capitol Building that I have marvelous is the beautiful, gigantic, dome in the center. I used a dome structure on both of my famous works that I mentioned before, namely my plan for St. Peters, and the Tempietto at San Pietro in Montorio (SOURCE). I would say, however, that the dome on the Capitol is much larger (SOURCE)! Especially compared to that of my Tempietto. It must have taken master craftsmen many years to complete such a feat in architecture and engineering (SOURCE). While I do find the dome to be a great work, I think it may be a little too different from the great domes of my work. Compared to my dome of St. Peters, the Capitol s dome seems to ... • 6. The United States Housing Bubble Crisis 6.3 TRILLION DOLLARS! This is how much the value of homes have fallen in the United States since its real estate peak back in July of 2006. After the price of houses peaked in 2006, they gradually started to decline until December 30th, 2008. This is when the Case Shiller home price index which measured the value of homes, reported its largest price decrease in its entire history. From there we saw prices continue to decline until we hit all time lows in 2012. The United States housing bubbleburst will be talked about for years to come including many what caused it and how to prevent such occurrences in the future. Low interest rates, Housing bubble, subprime mortgages, as well as securitization all contributed to the housing market crash of 2008 and will all be explained in this paper. According to the general consensus, most people believe that the housing bubble was the main cause of the 2007 2009 economic recession in the United States of America. LOW INTEREST RATES Mortgage rates in the United States hit an all time high in the early 1980 s at 18% in order to combat and push inflation out of the economy. Over the next 20 25 years, interest rates continued to fall and even fell below 6% in 2002. Although there was a large amount of debt going on in the United States at the time with little to no saving habits, interest rates were kept low by large amounts of investments into the U.S housing markets from outside countries like China, Japan, Brazil and the United ... • 7. Local Foods And Local Food The local food movement connects both producers and consumers in the same geographic region which develops a more community reliant food system. Local foods impact the local community, environment, one s health, and the overall society. Local food does not have a definite answer, but it does involve many subjects which are all distinguishable throughout the food system. Local food could also represent the distance from the farm to the table. If local food is distributed straight to a food hub, or a farmers market, or a grocery store, then the food could be considered local. If the food is distributed to a manufacturer, or a warehouse that delivers the food to a grocery store, then the food would not be considered local. This would not be considered local because the food is being carried to multiple different areas which increases food miles. There are many goals that are put in place from many local food supporters that involve food hubs, community gardens, and farmer markets that all want to create a more sustainable local food system. Local food systems help the local economy and allows consumers to buy products from their local farmers, and communities. Some urban areas are in high risk of poverty and it does not allow for locals to buy healthy foods for their families. They are at risk for their health from the foods they have to buy considering what they can and cannot afford. I attended the meeting alone and was initially very hesitant and uncomfortable with the idea. At the beginning not unexpected occurred really happened. It appeared to be a very informal meeting that everyone seemed to already be acquainted. All the members directed each other by name and I was welcomed by, what seemed to be, a regular attendee as well as a new member. I sat down and initiated conversation with the member next to me. She informed me that she goes to multiple meetings and this was her first time at the specific location. She asked me of my major and other information. A member of the group, who seemed to be the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This put the topic more towards forgiveness rather than anything else. The only topic discussed, as I recall, was forgiveness. Many members gave their accounts of moments in which they felt sorry and how they handled the situation. I will refrain from going into further detail about any of the members of the group to keep their anonymity. The meeting concluded with the serenity prayer. I was not familiar with this prayer so I just held the hands of those near me and bowed my head out of respect. Specific attendees of the meetings appeared more active and attentive than others. Some of them seemed as though they did not want to be there and looked miserable. About one or two of the members even fell asleep a couple of times. Maybe some members went because they had to or because they just wanted to help tell themselves that they are trying. This really interested me because it is important to take notice that some people go and progress due to being active and others are just forced. In the case of being forced it is very easy to go to the meeting and just not be attentive or active. During the meeting I felt very enlightened. The topic of forgiveness is very broad and is even relevant in my own life. The viewpoint on the topic was very different and interesting. They talked more about being forgiving of ourselves because we are the ones that cause ourselves to react negatively to life s daily hassles and stressors. They also spoke on the control ... It will be a real challenge for both, says Callanan as a new party has never gained a majority. He paused. But Macron has a better chance than Le Pen. One important issue that the new president will need to address is on the national security, as terrorist attacks are at their peek right now in France. Outline the Contribution of Marxism to Our Society Essay OUTLINE THE CONTRIBUTION OF MARXISM TO OUR UNDERSTANDING OF SOCIETY Marxism is an ideology based on the economic and political theories of Karl Marx and Freidrich Engels. Karl Marx who was born in Germany in 1818 was a revolutionary whose ideas on society were the foundation of communism. Under modern capitalism the means of production, such as factories, land, and technology are controlled by a small minority who Marx called the bourgeoisie. Production is carried out by the working class, known as the proletarians who have to sell their labour or face poverty or starvation. Taken together these two classes form the economic base of society, what Marx called the substructure. Marx saw that there was conflict between these two divisions ... This correspondence principle link work and education with its system of hierarchies and rules which prepare people for a subservient role in the workplace, by exploiting them as servants of a capitalist system, and continuing to perpetuate class stratification. (Giddens, A. 1997) The education system disguises this with its myth of meritocracy (Haralambos et al p 604) Cultural deprivation theorists suggest middle class children have advantage over WC, in that at an early age they are socialised and exposed to books, music and technology known as cultural capital. According to (Bordieu et al 1977) education is biased in favour of the culture of the dominant social class and WC culture is devalued. • 15. Media In Media The effects of media consumption on behavioral tendencies have long been the subject of both popular and academic scrutiny. Specifically, it is widely accepted that over exposure to depictions of violence in media can lead to desensitization to violent content and even short term aggressive behavior. From a psychological perspective (but not from a sociological one), this is hard to dispute as there are numerous studies which confirm this phenomenon although these studies have also been the victim of sensationalist interpretations and representations. Essentially what has been postulated is a simple cause and effect relationship: media exposure leads to a behavioral change. And as of recently, video games, in particular, have been the subject of increased scrutiny in the context of this relationship and once again there is evidence to support such a relationship. However, a review of available data published by the American Psychological Association (Granic, Lobels, Engels, 2014) has suggested that another, more positive cause and effect relationship may be at work with this type of media as it has grown in visibility and mainstream acceptance. One such trend that has emerged from a review of multiple studies is that playing video games can result in an increase in problem solving skills. This has largely gone overlooked by the popular press and the public at large who instead continue to focus on the link to aggressive behavior. And it is also important to consider that the findings of the APA do not disprove this link; this potential increase in problem solving ability and the separate increase of aggressive tendencies are not necessarily mutually exclusive to one another. In fact, it is entirely likely that there is one singular reason that both occur as a result of playing video games: interactivity. Interactivity in the context of video games constitutes a deep immersion in an entertaining fiction at a level that other visual media cannot match. James Paul Gee (2007) clarifies this point further nothing happens until a player acts and makes decisions... words and deeds are all placed in the context of an interactive relationship between the player and the world. And ultimately, an interactive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She believed it was her duty to place motherhood on a higher level than enslavement and accident (Sanger) and in doing so, make motherhood an option. Up to this point in history, that was considered a woman s duty to have and raise children, but Sanger saw things differently. Sanger saw the desperation of the women who had more children than they could handle and wanted to make a difference. Sanger collected 250,000 letters from women and published them in a book called Motherhood in Bondage, which contained messages from these women. One particularly moving one reads I have two small children twenty months apart, the baby now seven weeks old and am twenty one years myself. You might know what this means to me to care for two babies at this age when it simply stopped my being with my friends who can still be free to go, although I would do anything for my two children to help them go through a decent life. I am constantly living in fear of becoming pregnant again so soon (I am a prisoner). This seems to be an accurate account of motherhood in this time period and shows the great need for birth control which Sanger responded to with her continuous work. By creating the ability to control the number of children a woman had, Sanger enabled families to escape the financial and health troubles that often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The artists main goal was to attain the absolute beauty in their art by showing emotion through detail, almost through perfection. However, if children are always restricted and not shown any appreciation for their ideas or decisions, they will feel guilty about acting on their own. The fourth stage, industry vs. inferiority, is for students of elementary and middle school. Children are encouraged to do things well and finish tasks. They are praised for their achievements and they develop self confidence and industry. But, children who fail to achieve or who are constantly criticized will be left with the feeling of inferiority. Identity vs. role confusion is the fifth stage faced by adolescence, from 12 18 years. In this stage, adolescents seek their true selves and identity through exploration of different behaviors, values, and beliefs. The Characteristics Of German Expressionism When emphasizing on Expressionism, it is difficult to describe the German Expressionism in a suitable manner, one that will paint the picture for passing verbal inquires. Its ominous tones, gloomy faces, eerie image, they are by design dependent on self experience to understand. Suiting the artistic styles of Expressionism, popularized the likes of Vincent van Gogh and Edward Munch, German Expressionismstands out to produce images that will express more subjective feelings to the viewer than the realistic portrayals of ordinary images (Darsa par. 1 2). After world war 2, the Weimar Republic took control of the UFA, a film community that began in World war 1 producing German propaganda, with a new direction of showing Germany s greatness by cultivating their own talent and stylings (Gazetas p41). Normally, defining German Expressionism without observing it in a way that you normally should would tarnish its achievements. King Arthur s legend is based off of a true King that was able to defend Britain from a Saxon invasion. History says that this King was extremely heroic and brave. It is this great King that the legend comes from. The first time King Arthur s name is mentioned is in the writings of a Welsh historian, Nennius. He often references to a powerful King named Arthur, who helped the Britain in twelve specific and real battles. The only problem with this is that it is impossible for one man to have fought in all said battles. The Current State Of Water Supply Introduction Water, although considered a renewable resource is not available for infinite use as only six percent of the world s total supply is fresh water. Only this fresh water can be directly used for daily human needs and thus the amount of water actually available for use is much lower than the total amount of water present on the earth. The limited amount of water then poses the issue of water scarcity in some areas and makes the wise use and sustainable management of water extremely important. To ensure this sustainable management of water and prevent any misuse, it is important to have an appropriate institutional framework that looks after the water supply. The lack of a proper framework in the past has lead to the shifting of water management from the hands of the government to the private sector (Prasad, 2007). The purpose of writing this essay is to look into the current state of water supply, the issues surrounding the water supply and the correct method to overcome the prevailing issues. This essay will answer the question is privatization of water the solution to solving the current water crisis in different parts of the world? They are turned away from personal achievement and forced down a path that encourages a devotional, misguided love. The desperation derived from this obsessive love inevitably causes destruction to its bearer in Toni Morrison s Song of Solomon. In her novel, the protagonist Milkman searches for his personal and communal identity against a backdrop of disenfranchised, lovelorn women, and the reader watches as their inescapable desires for affection bring women to ruin. Morrison s female characters are constantly wanting, propelled by their quest for intimacy. In this novel, female loveis all consuming and obsessive to reflect age old oppressive patriarchal values; women are primarily defined by the men in their lives and achieving a home and a husband should be paramount for even nonconforming women. This wreaks havoc on the psyches of Hagar and Corinthians and begets endless anxietyover marriage and commitment. Through the consistent disintegration of her female characters, Toni Morrison examines the repressive, traumatic ideal path for women and its prevalence in our and her novel s society. As Hagar s love for Milkman grows more and more obsessive, Morrison reveals the bitter consequences of life as a woman seeking intimacy in a strictly patriarchal world. Determination of the Curie point depth (CPD) Magnetic anomalies are produced by grouping the effects from both shallow and deep magnetic sources (ThГ©bault et al., 2010). Consequently, the RTP data contain high wavenumbers and low wavenumbers anomalies together. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The centroid of the magnetic source Z0 can be estimated by fitting a straight line over the low wavenumber portion of the radially averaged frequency scaled power spectrum as shown in the flowing formula: ............ (2) Where D is a constant. Therefore, Zt and Z0 of the magnetic body can be determined. The basal depth (Zb) of any magnetic source can be resulted (Okubo et al., 1985; Tanaka et al., 1999) as: Zb= 2Z0 Zt........................ (3) The obtained bottom depth (Zb) of the magnetic source is equivalent to the CPD. (Bhattacharyya and Leu 1975; Okubo et al. 1985). At Zb, Ferromagnetic minerals are loss their magnetization due to a temperature of about 580Вє C. Spector and Grant (1970) generalized their energy power spectrum expression of the map by assuming that the anomalies of any magnetic map are come from a group of vertical magnetic prisms. Smith et al. (1974), Boler (1978) and Connard et al. (1983) applied the expression of this energy power spectrum to define the depth of the deepest magnetic layer. To link the CPD (Zb) with the Curie point isotherm (580ВєC), the vertical direction of temperature variation and the constant geothermal gradient were assumed. The geothermal gradient (dT/dZ) from the CPD (Zb) to the earth s surface can be derived (Tanaka et al. 1999; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Subculture Analysis Essay example Description of a Subculture: Gymnastics Competitive Team Culture is the ways of thinking, acting and the material objects that form a people s way of life. Within each culture there are many subcultures, which are cultural groups within a larger culture with similar beliefs. Many times, the subculture a person belongs to provide him/her with a sense of identity and belonging. Subcultures are characterized by their origin and the characteristics that define it. While growing up I belonged to many different subcultures, but my main one was my gymnastics competitive team. This was definitely the most influential and time consuming subculture I was a part of and is considered a special interest subculture. Along with its origin, subcultures... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, this subculture has strong boundary rigidity. Another characteristic of a subculture is the language/jargon used by its members. Language can refer to the way its members walk, talk, carry themselves, the slang words used, etc. Within my gymnastics team there was a lot of language we used that set us apart from other subcultures. The technical terms used in the sport of gymnastics is one of the obvious language barriers because only those who are familiar with the sport understand the terms and their meanings. The way gymnasts carry themselves also sets them apart from others. An example of this is when I was on the track team, a coach pointed out that I ran like a gymnast. Although I was not with my teammates or talking about gymnastics, the way I ran was an indicator of the subculture I was associated with. Values are another characteristic of a subculture. These are the group s ideas about what is right or wrong, what s important, how they view other people and so forth. As a part of a competitive gymnastics team, I grew up learning the values my coaches instilled in me time and time again. Things like hard work, dedication and commitment. As a part of the team, we all valued our coaches opinions and demands for what we were expected to do. At a young age we learned to that if you want something, you have to work to get it. We also learned that practicing and being in the gym was what was important, while free ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Environmental Impacts Of The Mississippi Valley Environmental impacts have been humanity s constant for over trillions of decades. That is how we stay alive and alert. We are constantly innovating and adjusting to our surroundings.Even during the late centuries early civilizations have been adapting to their beautiful and majestic lives. For a prime example, the ancient mounds of the Cahokiaclan and the largest earthworks in the Western. In the Mississippi Riverfloodplain, where the water table was always high and where the could thrive, the Mississippi valley had been the first and only one to be so carefully engineered. Over the next century or two the Cahokia clan made the bedside of the Mississippi more than a pile of dirt, the city surrounding it was more than an agglomeration of... That portion of the city now owned by the state of Illinois to protect it from real estate developers. It was called the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site. The city s thatched wooden houses had hard packed clay around them; even the mounds may have been covered with clay rather than prairie grasses. They sift every spoonful of earth, and they map in 3 D where each scrap of bone, corn, pottery, and shell bead comes from. They even keep track of where the dirt changes color.Cahokia Mounds State ,where a mystery was partly solved when workers at another dig a few miles away found a bald cypress log three feet in diameter in such a hole. The bathtubs were post pits, shaped to make it possible to ease huge posts into them. It soon became clear that the prehistoric Cahokians had indeed designed and put in place a circle of posts. And not just any circle: if you stood at its center on the mornings of the spring and fall equinoxes (usually March 21 and September 21 in our calendar), you would see the sun rise from behind a post. It s lucky for us that Mississippian culture survived Cahokia s decline and abandonment around 1300 and was still around in 1539, when Hernando de Soto tried to conquer what is now the ... • 53. Benefits Of Using Cds Used For Hedging Purposes Banks are classified as users or non users of CDS based on a search of their annual reports for information about the use of CDS. To search the reports, I have searched for key terms and expressions that indicate the use of CDS such as CDS, credit default swap, and credit default contract. Appendix (C) shows the complete list of the banks classified as CDS user or CDS non user, and their market capitalization. The CDS users represent 50% of the sample and the other half are nonuser. The selected sample will be used to test two main aspects: 1) The effect of the CEOs risk taking incentives on CDS use by distinguishing between CDS use for hedging purposes and CDS use for trading purposes; and 2) How the CDS use impacts the firms risk by ... In 2002 the European Union agreed that from January 2005 international accounting standards /international financial reporting standards (IASs/IFRSs) would apply for the consolidated accounts of the EU listed companies (Barth, Landsman, and Lang, 2008). Starting from 2005, IAS /IFRS adoption has been mandatory in all the member states of the European Union with the ultimate goal of increasing transparency in financial reporting. This adoption of IAS/IFRS therefore represents an extraordinary event for empirical research because evidence shows that the mandatory adoption of IAS/IFRS in Europe results in better quality of financial reporting. In fact, empirical studies provide some support to the notion that adopting IAS/IFRS improves the quality of financial reporting and of public information (Palea, 2013). 3.1.4Data sources In this thesis, secondary data is used to answer the two research questions. The data have been collected from two main sources: bank s annual reports and Datastream. Following the approach of many prior empirical studies the data on CDS and derivative are hand collected from banks annual reports (e.g., Allayannis and Ofek, 2001; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002; Supanvanij and Strauss, 2010). Unlike US firms, compensation data for European companies are not readily available in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Guilt In Lady Macbeth Everyone has done at least a few things that they feels guilty for, like maybe you stole a phone case from target or ate three donuts for breakfast when you are supposed to be on a diet but, guilt is basic human nature. In the play Macbeth, written by Shakespeare, Lady Macbeth is a very evil person due to the horrible things she has done like convincing her husband, Macbeth, to commit murder. Although Lady Macbeth is evil, the reader sympathizes for her because she reveals she feels guilty and one feels obligated to give her a second chance and knows what guiltfeels like due to personal experience. Lady Macbeth is an immoral, evil, soul selling woman who makes all the wrong decisions. She quickly proves in the first few acts that she has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Illuminating Human Attachment In Ernest Hemingway s A... A Farewell to Arms In Ernest Hemingway s fiction book A Farewell to Arms the reader follows protagonist Frederic Henry through his continuously winding journey. This colorful wartime book possesses many themes, but contrary to the idea hinted behind Joel Armstrong s literary criticism A Powerful Beacon LoveIlluminating Human Attachment in Hemingway s A Farewell to Arms love is not the central theme of the book. The topic that does reoccur and therefore proposes itself as the central principle, however, is the idea associated behind the process of healing from pain. In the book, both Frederic Henry and Catherine Barkley had to fight against pain during the times when Barkley loses her first lover, when Henry suffers from the trench mortar trauma, and when Henry bids farewell to the dying Barkley. In the opening pages of the book, Hemingway did a fantastic job in highlighting Barkley s grief for her lost lover. Notably, Barkley had never met Henry before, but with his mention of the stick which belonged to her fiance, she instinctively talked with anguish. He was a very nice boy. He was going to marry me and he was killed in the Somme... He could have had anything he wanted if I would have known (Hemingway 18 19). Even so, the next night she would allow Henry to give her a kiss. Oh, darling, she said. You will be good to me, won t you? (Hemingway 27). To many this would have appeared to be a romantic scene, but in reality, however, Barkley s mind is elsewhere; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
