Picture 1: Young boys who are between the ages of 12-17.
Picture 2: They are military men who are getting their group picture.
Picture 3: A bunch of men gathering around to some sort of celebration.
What is the situation of the people in the photograph? Provide evidence from the photo
that tells you this.
Picture1: Their young boys who are just hanging out after school or going back home from school.
The reason why I believe that is because their wearing some sort of uniform, portraying that they
were at school earlier that day and now they are riding on their bikes back home.
Picture 2: There is a group of military men because most of them are wearing green uniforms and
there is a few guns in the picture.
Picture 3: The local folks are watching a few men dump gallons of liquid down the drain.
What message do you think the photographer was trying to convey?
Picture 1: The photographer was trying to convey that kids had to ride their bikes to get where they
wanted to go besides walking.
Picture 2: The photographer was trying to convey that there has been military camps for years now.
Picture 3: The photographer was trying to convey that by celebrating an event back then, they would
spill alcohol or some sort of drink.
Why is this photograph important to history?
Picture 1: This might be important to history because it shows what kids had to do to get to places,
such as school. They didn’t have buses or any other transportation.
Picture 2: This photo is important to history because this was probably taken close to an important
war event.
Picture 3: This photo is important because it represents how the local men celebrated an event.

Picture 1: I honestly feel like that these boys are coming back from school and now they are going
home or are going to go hang out.

Picture 3: These men are celebrating some sort of event by gathering around higher class men who
are spilling drinks down the drain.

3. It seems like it could have been a hot day because some of them are shirtless.

2. On the side of the building behind some of the men has the word “Bills” on it.

  • 1. Who are the people in the photograph? Picture 1: Young boys who are between the ages of 12-17. Picture 2: They are military men who are getting their group picture. Picture 3: A bunch of men gathering around to some sort of celebration. What is the situation of the people in the photograph? Provide evidence from the photo that tells you this. Picture1: Their young boys who are just hanging out after school or going back home from school. The reason why I believe that is because their wearing some sort of uniform, portraying that they were at school earlier that day and now they are riding on their bikes back home. Picture 2: There is a group of military men because most of them are wearing green uniforms and there is a few guns in the picture. Picture 3: The local folks are watching a few men dump gallons of liquid down the drain. What message do you think the photographer was trying to convey? Picture 1: The photographer was trying to convey that kids had to ride their bikes to get where they wanted to go besides walking. Picture 2: The photographer was trying to convey that there has been military camps for years now. Picture 3: The photographer was trying to convey that by celebrating an event back then, they would spill alcohol or some sort of drink. Why is this photograph important to history? Picture 1: This might be important to history because it shows what kids had to do to get to places, such as school. They didn’t have buses or any other transportation. Picture 2: This photo is important to history because this was probably taken close to an important war event. Picture 3: This photo is important because it represents how the local men celebrated an event.
  • 2. What questions does this photograph raise? Picture 1: Why are the boys raising their hands? Where are they actually coming back from? Where are they going? Picture 2: What year was this photo taken? Were these men in the military or navy? Picture 3: What are the men celebrating? What are they spilling down the drain? Write your own caption for the photograph: Picture 1: I honestly feel like that these boys are coming back from school and now they are going home or are going to go hang out. Picture 2: These men look like they were just taking a group picture. Picture 3: These men are celebrating some sort of event by gathering around higher class men who are spilling drinks down the drain. What could you do to find more information about this photograph? Picture 1: I could go on a historical website and see if I can understand this photo better. A group of men that are in some sort of army camp. 2. There is a diversity of men all sitting together. 3. It seems like it could have been a hot day because some of them are shirtless. Picture 3: 1. There is only men in this photo. 2. On the side of the building behind some of the men has the word “Bills” on it. 3. There is one black man standing with the big group of men.
