Photograph 1:
The first photograph has four young teenage boys. I think they are Hitler supporters. They are all riding
bikes with serious faces and holding their left-hands in a salute while wearing military-type uniforms. I
think the photographer was trying to convey a message that they are innocently riding their bikes and
showing support for Hitler was a natural thing. This photograph is important to history because it shows
that using propaganda to support Nazis. This photograph raises the question as to why would young
boys be saluting Hitler and who was making them do it?
“Even telegram delivery boys have a role in the new regime.”
To find more information about this photograph you could see who the photographer was, when and
where it was taken, and who it was published by and where it appeared.
1. They were young boys, probably the first time on their own.
2. They have jobs as some-type of delivery boy.
3. The boys support Hitler.
Photograph 2:
The second photograph appears to have bankers, owners, factory workers during prohibition years. They
are shown duping alcohol out of bottles. The clothing is typical of the 1920s. The people pouring out the
liquor appear to be pleased with what they are doing. The photographer is trying to convey that
prohibition is a good thing to happen. We don’t need alcohol. This protograph is important to history
because it shows two different sides of prohibition – one group is off to the side looking unhappy, while
the other group appears to be pleased about what they are doing. The photograph raises the questions of
personal liberties, being able to enjoy liquor without government interference.
“Goodbye liquor, hello prohibition.”
To find more information about this photograph you could see who the photographer was, when and
where it was taken, and who it was published by and where it appeared.
1. The action appears to be happening in a urban area.
2. The people opposed to prohibition appear to be poor, factory workers.
3. The people enforcing prohibition are well-off, dressed nicely.
Photograph 3:
The people in the photograph appear to all be soldiers. It looks like they may be in Vietnam or Korea.
Their clothing and landscape of the area makes it seem like the time of Vietnam or Korea. They are all
holding weapons and are dressed in uniform. I think the photographer was trying to convey that we are
all equal and it is ok to accept people for who they are. This photograph is important to history because it
shows what war was like, and the support soldiers have for each other. This photograph raises the
question of where are they, which war is this, what year is it, how long have they been there?
“Just a few more months and we will be back home.”
To find more information about this photograph you could see who the photographer was, when and
where it was taken, and who it was published by and where it appeared.
1. Its hot, some have taken their shirts off.
2. Looks like they are running out of supplies.
3. There are few tents in the background.
