Honor-Shame Code in The Tale of the Heike Essay

HIST485
Honor Shame Code in The Tale of Heike In The Tale of Heike, the way in which the Japanese viewed
defeat and dying is revealed to the reader through various incidents covered during the time of the
novel. To be defeated was shameful but to prevail was a way to gain respect and honor. The accounts
in Heike tell us that one could defeat an opponent by exiling him, insulting him, or even taking
revenge upon him. Because being defeated was shameful, warriors would kill themselves before being
killed by the opponent. If a warrior failed in his duty, suicide would be the necessary measure taken to
regain honor. Not only could suicide be a way to gain honor, it could also be a way to shame someone.
If you prohibit your enemy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Munetaka was ordered by Yoshitsune to shoot the fan right square in the middle (420), but Munetaka
hesitated to accept the order saying, if I missed, we d never outlive the disgrace (420). Not able to
refuse the angered Yoshitsune, Munetaka preparing to shoot closed his eyes in silent prayer saying,
Let me hit the center of that fan! If I miss, I ll smash my bow and kill myself I ll never show my face
again (420). Munetaka knew that his failure would disgrace the Genji and his suicide would be the
only way of recompense. Heike also reveals that another way to defeat your enemy and another way
to be shamed by your enemy was through humiliation. Kiyomori often humiliated his enemies. He
exiled Naritsune, Yasuyori, and Shunkan to Kikai ga shima, a faraway island, because they were
conspiring against the Taira. Later, only Naritsune and Yasuyori were pardoned but Shunkan was not.
This was Kiyomori s revenge on Shunkan because Kiyomori had given Shunkan his job and still had
the nerve to betray him (290 291). Through exile, Kiyomori shamed Naritsune, Yasuyori, and Shunkan
by denying them the opportunity to commit suicide but sentencing them to death by starvation. Insults
were another way to shame your enemy. Nakatsuma passive aggressively denies Munemori the chance
to ride Konoshita, his horse, by saying the horse was tired from having been overridden (306). When
Munemori found out that was a lie, he had been humiliated. To take revenge he seized Konoshita,

A Brief Note On The World Bank Cambodia Sub Project
efore zeroing in on the World Bank Cambodia Sub project, a quick review of the World Bank Group
(WBG), vis a vis its structure, mission s statement, and criticisms would critical in analysing the
project.
At the dusk of the Second World War (WWII), there were concerns to the stability of the global
economic markets. The stability of international currency markets, and international trades were
deemed critical to averting crises such as the great depression of 1930, which eventually lead to the
war.
Representatives of about 40 countries met in New Hampshire to deliberate and chart a course for a
new international financial order. It was at the Bretton Woods Conference that the foundations of
World Bank and International Monetary Fund (both jointly referred to as International Financial
Institutions, IFIs) were laid (The Levin Institute, 2015).
The WBG mission statement states that it aims to reduce poverty I middle income and creditworthy
poorer countries by promoting sustainable developments, through loans, guarantees, and non lending
including analytical and advisory services.
The WBG, in other to achieve its goal, has developed a number of initiatives, such as:
International Development Association (IDA), an initiative for providing additional financial
assistance for the poorest develop countries.
International Finance Corporation (IFC), it is the largest public source of financial investments for
private sector projects in developing countries. Other initiatives

Essay sunwind case study
Sunwind A.B. A Case Study
Introduction
On November 14, 2000 Olav Larsson, Managing Director of Sunwind, eased back in his seat as his
A380 climbed away from Tokyo s Narita Airport to begin the 17 hour flight to Gothenburg, Sweden.
He was returning from a 10 day trip to Japan where he had visited factories of Nissan and Mazda as
well as a number of their parts suppliers. This visit had reinforced his conviction that Sunwind should
initiate a proposal to Volvo, its major customer, that Just In Time delivery of floor lids1 be made
directly onto its 700 series automobile assembly lines at Torslanda, near Gothenburg, Kalmer, a port
city on Sweden s east cost, and at Ghent in Belgium.
Lars, a graduate engineer, had previous managerial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Average weekly requirements in 2001 were expected to approach 1,400 units. Lars estimated Sunwind
s current single shift capacity at approximately 1,250 units/week. To achieve this, he had hired an
additional 20 people at the beginning of August and established three shift operations on a numerically
controlled milling machine used to shape plywood parts.
Effective capacity was actually less than 1,250 units/week due to equipment failures, e.g. the gluing
machine had proved particularly troublesome and had increased rejects. Recent causes of the rejects
included seeping through the carpeting that covered the plywood forms. Volvo had also rejected a
shipment of floor lids due to differences in the shade of carpeting covering the four separate pieces
which made up a floor lid.
Such difficulties could not have come a worse time, when Lars was already concerned by the world
wide trend of major manufacturers in the automobile industry to rely on fewer suppliers. He knew that
Toyota, which industry observers continually cited for its productivity gains, relied on only 320
suppliers, while Volvo had over 600. Headlines such as Volvo will reduce number of suppliers;
pressure on sub contractors in Dagens Nyheter, one of Sweden s major daily newspapers, did not help
his peace of mind.
He was also aware that Just In Time deliveries had been implemented recently

Dell Desktop Supply Chain
QUESTION 1
Why does L5 incur higher manufacturing and logistic costs than L6?
In L5, the chassis (without motherboard installed) are shipped to the US first and followed by the
motherboards being airfreight to the US as shown in Figure 6 4.
This indicates a higher logistic cost from airfreight if motherboard is not manufactured in time to be
shipped (via ocean) from China to US where motherboard is in need to be assembled with the empty
chassis to satisfy surge demand. At the same time, if only the empty chassis reached the shores at Dell
s SLC awaiting the motherboard to be arrived, this would incur unnecessary holding inventory cost.
Since the process of motherboard chassis integration is outsourced to 3PI (3rd party ... Show more

5. The total complexity remains competitively at 56 and at a reasonable cost per box of $7.61. As this
reasonable expense, option 4 stay at the optimal solution.
QUESTION 3
How easily sustainable is your recommendation for the previous question if the chipset supply
shortage further deteriorates?
Given option 4 recommendation, Dell directly manages the 3PI (figure 6 1). This allows better control
over the 3PI which results in better quality (over product design and manufacturing process) and time
management in integrating different parts from vendors.
In this context, Dell no longer needs to sit idle, waiting for chipset to be delivered. With control over
3PI, Dell and 3PI can determine when and how many motherboards to manufacture in China and
airfreight to US later for integration (1 week of airfreight) while the chassis is shipped in the event of
chipset is not available (5 weeks). Hence, planning ahead to minimize shortage of chipset to satisfy
the demand in the long run is one of the contingency plans from disrupting the supply chain. In return,
minimize higher expense.
The shortage of chipset is not only due to manufacturer s capacity constraints; it could be defects from
manufacturing. Therefore, Dell wouldn t want to just rely on supplier but to take control of the internal
operational improvement to target cost saving model and maintaining manufacturing flexibility.

The Long Walk Home And Sociological Perspective
Humans often take pride in their ability to think freely and act independently. However, many actions
that we perform and certain ways we behave in society are often quickly overlooked and not
questioned. We often do not understand why we perform certain tasks or adhere to certain rules.
However, we still paradoxically pride ourselves in our freedom. By analyzing the sociological
perspective, we can understand how much of a role society often plays in our actions and behavior as
individuals in society. Certainly, the sociological perspective can allow us to analyze events in the
movie The Long Walk Home more closely. The sociological perspective can allow us to understand
how the actions of the characters are often chained and their behaviors controlled by society, through
using the theories of social location, social control, and social stratification. The sociological
perspective can also allow us to understand why these characters strangely adhered to these forms of
oppressive control and often resisted change, through using role theory and the sociology of
knowledge. Lastly, the sociological perspective will allow us to understand how actors can break free
of these bindings, through using an interpretive analysis and applying concepts such as freedom,
ecstasy, and bad faith. Overall, the sociological perspective allows us to understand the personalities,
actions, and story of The Long Walk Home through revealing to us how these features were guided
through control,

The Controversial Queen Mary I Queen Of England
Mary I Queen of England was a very controversial queen. She is remembered for the prosecutions she
set in place against the people of Protestant faith. When in fact Mary I Queen of England was a good
queen that suffered many hardships through her early childhood, her fight for the crown, and even her
life during her reign. Mary s early childhood came with a mix of emotions from her father, King
Henry VIII. Mary was the first child to King Henry, he was very happy when she was born in 1516
even though she was a girl. To show how much Henry loved Mary he appointed four people from his
staff to simple rock her cradle when she was sleeping, along with other extravagant gifts, even though
at the time Henry had been hoping for a boy to take over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the body notices the changes it will interpret it as a real pregnancy and will start to release
hormones familiar with pregnancy, making you believe you are pregnant. New research is starting to
show that a women with many relationship problems can be at a higher risk to have a phantom
pregnancy. This is a good explanation as to why Queen Mary had at least two phantom pregnancies.
She had such a complicated relationship with her father, and she was in great need for an heir to the
throne, she could have convinced herself she was pregnant. She also had a very complicated
relationship with her husband, who only came to England when he had to. He was not in love with
Mary like she was in love with him. He was very unpopular in England and he knew no one liked him.
The people knew that a relationship with Spain meant war with France, and England did not want that.
Mary s emotions controlled her political obligations, knowing she should have chosen another
husband to avoid war with France, but her feelings for Philip overtook her control. While she was in
the midst of her phantom pregnancies, May was still trying to restore the Catholic faith in England.
Mary believed that the way to do this was to charge the Protestant rulers with crimes and burn them at
the stake. As a result over 300 people were burned at the stake, she also had to take care of the people
who tried to keep her off the throne in the beginning. In January 155 John Hooper, John Rogers and
John Cardmaster, were arrested and burned at the stake after refusing to stop their crimes against the
crown. She did however find Jane Grey guilty of treason but refused to kill her, instead she was kept
in a tower until her death. After she heard that there was an attempt to place her sister Elizabeth on the
throne, Mary arrested Elizabeth and placed her at Woodstock. She was in disgrace with the queen until
April 1555 when Mary wanted

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus ( Sle )
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that affects multiple tissues and
systems and with significant variable clinical features and organ involvement (Cava, 2010). It is
characterized by a chronic, relapsing, inflammatory and often febrile multisystemic disorder of
connective tissue with wide spectrum of involvement of skin, joints, kidneys and serosal membranes.
The exact etiology is noknown, but it represents failure of the regulatory mechanisms of immune
system in which body s own defenses are turned against themselves (Edworthy, 2005##########).
It has a worldwide distribution with unpredictable course of flares and remissions, where a cumulative
damage over time significantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The disease is milder and survival is higher among persons with isolated cutaneous and
musculoskeletal disease than in those with renal and CNS involvement. the most frequent causes of
death in SLE patients are Infections and diseases of the cardiovascular, renal, pulmonary, and central
nervous systems (Bartels et al., 2012).
In spite of the improvement of the survival rate, patients with SLE still have a higher death rate (3 5
times) than that of general population (Schur, 2001).
B. Etiology:
The definite pathologic mechanisms of SLE remain elusive, and the etiology of SLE is known to be
multi factorial, involving genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors. Environmental triggers with
susceptible genetic background, act on the immune system to initiate autoimmunity (Tiffin et al.,
2013).
1 Genetic factors: There is a clear genetic component in SLE, with a sibling risk ratio 8 29 folds
higher than that in the general population and a 10 folds increase in disease concordance in identical
twins. In addition, there is a 24 56% concordance rate in monozygotic twins, compared with a 2 5%
risk in dizygotic twins (Deng and Tsao, 2010).
Many genes that may contribute to lupus have been identified by means of whole genome scans from
families in whom multiple members have SLE (Namjou et al., 2007). The genes associated

Nori Seaweed Essay
INTRODUCTION
An intertidal community is made up of a very diverse and populated group of organisms and species.
Rocky intertidal zones are located on shore lines. They are found on sandy or rocky beaches. Intertidal
communities are known as tidal pools that are covered by water during high tide and vulnerable to air
at low tide. These communities can be very complex and overcrowded areas. The species that are
present are Nori Seaweed, Black Pine, Coral Weed, Mussel, Acorn Barnacle, Goose Neck Barnacle,
Whelk, Chiton, Starfish, and Green Crab. Nori Seaweed is the weakest competitor in the sessile
consumers. The sessile organisms are permanently located on rocks and don t move. The barnacles
and mussel dominate over all the sessile organisms. The starfish feeds mainly off the mussel and is the
specie that governs the whole intertidal zone. When the green crab is added they dominate over the
starfish and they can sometimes cause destruction among the entire ecosystem. Green crab feed off of
barnacles, whelk, mussels, and many other species. The algae produce their own food. The filter
feeders are consumers but extract particles out of the water to eat. Most of the species feed off each
other. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the module we see that the starfish is a keystone predator. If that species is removed how will it
affect that ecosystem or the other organisms living in the intertidal community? I PREDICT THAT
REMOVING THE STARFISH WILL INCREASE THE MUSSEL POPULATION. Since starfish feed
off of several organisms I think it will impact the mussels the most when removing the starfish. We
can test this by using the module You
Are What You Eat . By removing the starfish, the mussel population should start to expand and grow
over 200 weeks.

Desert Biome Diary Essay
Diary of a Naturalist Dear Diary,
Today, I investigated the incredible desert biome. The two I m investigating are the hot and cold
biome. Both contain a devastating environment. It s a miracle that organisms are able to survive here.
In the hot desert, during the day, the heat is almost unbearable, but during the night, it dips down into
freezing temperatures. It usually never rains, but when it does, it rains in short bursts between rainless
periods. The reason for the temperatures fluctuating so often is due to the atmosphere not having
sufficient humidity. The sand there is course, shallow, and rocky with good drainage, but no
subsurface water. In the cold desert, there is a lot of rainfall throughout winter, and little throughout
summer. The winters are very cold, and it often will snow. The average snowfall ranges from 15 26
cm. There sand consists of pebbles and small rocks. It is also very salty. In order to survive in the
desert region, the plants and animals (flora and fauna) need to adapt to the environment. In the hot
deserts, prickly pears open their stomata of their leaves only at night where the evaporation rates are
the lowest. Cacti are able retain water. The Joshua tree has extremely ... Show more content on

of subsoil, known are permafrost. The soil there is very saturated. As for precipitation, it usually gets
15 25 cm of rain. The Alpine Tundra regions are found on mountain at the high altitudes where trees
are not able to grow. At night, it usually always gets below freezing. During summer, its temperatures

Bourgeoisie And Proletariat In The Communist Manifesto By...
Class Co dependence of Bourgeoisie and Proletariat in Marx
According to Karl Marx, history is defined by class struggle. This epoch is one of an increasingly
polarized duality of Bourgeoisie and Proletariat; simply defined as an antagonism between the owners
of capital and means of production, and the wage labors with no capital to speak of; A byproduct of
Capitalism. Introduced in The Communist Manifesto as a war of sorts, violent and hostile, his
description continues both in the Manifesto and in Capital, to delve deeper beneath the surface layer
and evolves into a more complete evaluation of their complex codependent relationship. As opposed
to two oppositional parts of a whole society, they are irrevocably linked and intertwined, by very ...

Marx depicts two camps at war, but shortly thereafter at a multifaceted association between them.
They are not two sides of a civil war, but rather more intimately linked. The Bourgeoisie are described
as leaders of an Industrial army (of Proletariat), indicating in some sense, the two being parts of a
singular mechanism, one driving toward progress. The Proletariat masses of labourers, crowded into
the factory, are organised like soldiers. As privates of the industrial army they are placed under the
command of a perfect hierarchy of officers and sergeants. Not only are they slaves of the bourgeois
class, and of the bourgeois State; they are daily and hourly enslaved by the machine, by the over
looker, and, above all, by the individual bourgeois manufacturer himself. 479 There is definitely
exploitation and oppression of the Proletariat by the Bourgeoisie, but they are both part of a working
system, that of Capitalism. By definition the one class depends on the other for its very existence. One
cannot define a group as the owners of the means of production, without having a separate group that
therefor is not; there can be no class distinguished

Enthalpy Of Combustion Of Alcohols Lab Report
According to the graph in figure 5, as the number of Carbon atoms in alcohol increased by 1, the
change in standard enthalpy of combustion would increase by around 200 kJ/mol. This is proven as
the equation of the linear line (protruding from the bottom left to the top right of the graph) is
y=199.81x, where x is the number of Carbon atoms, y is the standard enthalpy of combustion and
199.81 is the gradient of the line and how much the standard enthalpy of combustion would increase
by when multiplied by x. There were also errors/uncertainties that were shown in the graph and result
tables. The average error of each of the different alcohols was of 6.51%. Thus, as the change in
standard enthalpy of combustion of the alcohols increased, the uncertainties and errors became greater.
The size of the uncertainties can be seen becoming greater as the size of the change in standard
enthalpy of combustion increases in the graph of figure 5 and the results table of figure ... Show more

When the number of Carbon atoms in a homologous series of simple alcohols increases, there are
more bonds that are needed to be broken. When a bond is being broken, energy must be used in order
to break apart the alcohol molecule. When there is a long hydrocarbon chain, extra energy must be
used to break apart the alcohol molecule, therefore, more energy must be used to break a longer
hydrocarbon. For example, ethanol contains one more methylene group (CH2) than methanol. When
the ethanol is burnt, it will have one additional C C group and two additional C H bonds to be broken.
When the bonds of the C C and C H bonds are broken, this creates an endothermic process and more
energy is needed to break the bonds. However, the energy produced by the increment in the amounts
of CO2 and H2O forming outweighs the energy that is absorbed by the new C C and C H bonds, so it
becomes more and more

Economic Theory Of Mercantilism
The Mercantilist economic theory brings to view the nationalist effort that maximizes trade and the
accumulation of gold and silver at the expense of other nations. This economic theory promotes
national regulation of the economy and trade through the process of expanding the domestic industry.
This approach went against free trade as it practices restrict imports and raise trade tariffs.
Mercantilism was the primary economic system of trade between the 16th and 18th century, and it
understood that wealth was static. Its perception of wealth led to the European nations implementing
tariffs that would ensure they maintained their power through their wealth. This wealth perception
restricted trade through tariffs that restricted imports while promoting exports. Hence, the static
attitude of trade ensured that the European nations imposed their government regulations over
countries that they were interested commercially. Therefore, the Mercantilism economic theory
identified the insecurities of the European nations as the global market increased and their influences
diminished.
According to William Baker, Mercantilism played a huge role in facilitating the trade system practiced
between the 16th and 18th century. Hence, Mercantilism was used to justify the role that slavery
played in enhancing European wealth. Slavery was reinforced through the Englishmen concepts that
saw them superior compared to the Africans, they associated Africans strange culture with their

Christian Dior Personal Statement
Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life (Confucius). Growing up
under a conservative father, I never considered art as a profession even though it was always where
my heart belonged. My parents wanted me to become a doctor or a lawyer, and I blindly thought that
was the way to go. However, I made a life changing decision to become a fashion designer when I
watched a fashion show clip of Christian Dior couture collection in high school. Driven by the energy
and excitement of the runway, I thought of creating work like that. My father didn t approve, and he
told me that I should not turn my hobby into my profession because I would end up not enjoying it.
Despite his advice, I showed him the quote above and told him that I want to spend my life following
my passion instead of being forced to do something else. I received a BFA degree from the School of
the Art Institute of Chicago in 2014. SAIC taught me to approach fashion as an interdisciplinary
medium that brings different areas of art together such as painting, sculpture, performance, fiber, and

Analysis Of Getting Back To The Wrong Nature By William...
Tai Beiserman
Professor Nachumi
ENGL 1100
26 April 2015
Blake s use of nature through Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience
William Bill Cronon, an environmental historian and vice Chair of The Wilderness Society, believes
that because society differ its self from the nature, it makes the nature to be seen as wild, remote, and
inaccessible. In his essay The Trouble with Wilderness; or, Getting Back to the Wrong Nature ,
published in 1995 by the New York Times and in Uncommon Ground: Toward Reinventing Nature,
Cronon traced the idea of wilderness throughout American history. Cronon presents the potential
danger in society s traditional concept of wilderness. He points out how society detached itself from
nature simply by idealizing it and thinking of it as something distant and remote. Approaching the
concept of nature in this way leads to an ultimate separation of us, as members of society, from what
we could consider to be our true home. As a result of that, the nature is seen as wild, remote and
inaccessible. Although Cronon might be right to some extent, that is not always the case. Songs of
Innocence and Songs of Experience were written by William Blake and published together in 1798. In
Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience the nature is a key feature; in some poems the nature
seems to be close, and sometimes it is more remote. The distance of nature from society does not play
a role in Blake s poems; although in Songs of Innocence the adjacent nature is

Rio Tinto Executive Summary
Rio Tinto likes to think in portfolio terms where each product group flourishes at different points in
economic cycle by analysing the mix and balancing of investment. Successful growth starts with an
assessment of the contents of the pipeline. As Moore (2007), suggests that for companies fixated in
usual business the three horizon framework is the right strategy to develop the future capability. A
survey is conducted across different product groups to analyse the health of the business and identify
the gaps and bulges (Appendix B). Based on the responses gathered from different product groups a
graphical summary is displayed in figure 5 showing the outcome of the survey. Figure 5 The Alchemy
of Growth As shown in figure 5, for Horizon 1 more than 50% are positive about Rio Tinto defending
the core business and improving operational improvement for short term performance. Rio Tinto looks

Descriptive Essay Angel
Hello, Angel, you re looking beautiful as always, Angelo greets me the second I walk through the
door. Is that another dress your boss bought you?
Stunned by his observations and his memory of my dresses, it takes me a moment to reply. Yes, it is. I
flatten out the wrinkles in my dress from the taxi ride over.
It s a lot like the one you wore for your audition, isn t it?
It s very similar. I suppose I should come clean, that first dress belonged to Alice, but now I have my
own.
Blue suits you, it matches your eyes. He reaches out to glide his fingertips along the side of my face.
It matches your tie. Though it sits perfectly on his shirt, I adjust the knot of his tie nonetheless.
Once I realise our inappropriate behaviour, I retract my hand, cupping it to my chest with it s behaving
twin. I promised myself the whole ride over I would not allow him to flirt with me, yet here I am,
flirting right back! I avert my gaze, staring down at my hands, and reprimand myself for our
interaction. Wait one second, I gaze back up at him, you called me Angel, again. Why?
Why not?
I mean, why Angel?
He leans in close enough for his fragrance to imbue my nostrils, leaving me light headed. His lips
caress my ear as he whispers, Your perfume.
Though I heard what he said, I can t bring forth the words to respond. Instead, I turn my face just a

The Family Systems Theory During The Mid 20th Century
Murray Bowen, an American psychiatrist, began developing what would become known as the family
systems theory during the mid 20th century. He believed that the family was an emotional unit and
that it could be best understood by looking not just at current family interactions but the interactions of
prior generations as well (Helm, 2009). His focus was on using theory, not therapy, to treat the patient
and the cornerstone of that theory is that human behavior is based on a person being able to maintain
intimacy with loved ones while differentiating themselves sufficiently as individuals so as not to be
swept up by what is transpiring within the family (p. 205).
At both the Menninger Clinic and the National Institute of Mental Health, Bowen became interested in
schizophrenia specifically in relation to the mother and child. He soon realized that he needed to focus
on the entire family rather than just mother and child to provide a more accurate picture for his
research. The Bowen Family Systems theory was born of this realization. The basic premise of the
family systems theory is that the therapist cannot fully understand or successfully treat the client
without first grasping how that individual functions within their family system.
To this end, Bowen postulated eight interlocking concepts for the family as an emotional unit and they
are differentiation of self, triangles, nuclear family emotional process, family projection process,
emotional cutoff, multigenerational

Commentary On The Southwest Monsoon
Personal Comment: The southwest monsoon is one of earth s oldest weather observations. It occurs
annually in india throughout three months (June September). This information helps me to get a better
understanding of the novel because it creates imagery. We re able to understanding the characters
surroundings more, and put ourselves in the characters place. It also provides background information
on the culture of the characters and it s geographic state. Knowing this information helps us to
understand the reasoning behind some of the events going on in the novel. Through research I was
able to confirm that the information in the novel is accurate regarding the Southwest Monsoon.
Research states that the southwest Monsoon is the seasonal reversale of winds and the associated
rainfall and the author confirms that by stating three months of wind and water . Further research also
states that the Southwest Monsoon occurs from June September and that is three months. This
information is relevant to the novel because it helps add on to the setting of the novel which is in

how one of the characters attempted to impact india by implying a peaceful transition to communism.
However, through research it s evident that this is inaccurate because india is indeed under a
democratic government. The reason that the author fabricated this information is to give the character
Comrade E.M.S Namboodiripad power in order to help the reader better understand his personality in
the novel. This information helps me to gain background knowledge about India s government system

Trump asked Republicans to make good on a promise to repeal the Affordable Care Act ACA.

Analysis Of Social Life By Philip Larkin
In the first stanza of the poem, Larkin sets us in the middle of mundane middle class English social
life. He notes that we involve ourselves in all sorts of socializing; but even though we fill up our time
with such social activities, Larkin suggests that such a life is empty and that although we disguise it
from ourselves, underneath we really want to be alone. In the second stanza he extends the wish to be
alone to its logical terminus, death. He suggests, then, that in spite of our social involvement we all
have a death wish within us and that immersing ourselves in the social round is harmful because it is a
mechanism we use to prevent ourselves from coming to terms with death and our desire for it; i.e. we
kill our natural awareness towards death and the temporal nature of life through indulgence in social
traps. In the poem images are conjured up by the use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Business Ethics is helpful for decision making process at all levels of organization. Following are
major decisions required for solving ethical and regulatory issues (Ingram, 2014):
 Maintaining healthy employee relations: Food restaurants generally pay minimum wages or little
more than minimum wages for stressful jobs. Employers should commit of breaking the trend of
overworking and under paying employees and thereby improving their reputation and image amongst
current and potential employees.
 Food safety and prioritizing public healthy: Food companies should put food safety above financial

Srebrenca Genocide Essay
In 1997, the world witnessed the second most horrific crime in eastern Europe since the Holocaust:
The Srebrenica massacre. Throughout the course of 11 days, over 8,000 Bosniak Bosnian Muslim
males, specifically those who were of age to join the military, were rounded up, and killed by the
Bosnian Serb army. The army s defense for their actions was that they were trying to reunite Serb
territory after the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina became its own state. Despite this claim, the
ICTY still charged Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, two of the men who spearheaded the ethnic
cleansing campaign in Bosnia, with war crimes including genocide. However, scholars debate whether
Srebrenica, albeit horrible, and other instances like itself, being labeled a genocide is a misapplication

As defined by the UN, a genocide is the intentional destruction of a whole or part of a racial, ethnical,

the crime. According to William Schabas, author of Genocide in International Law: The Crime of
Crimes, prosecutors had to stretch the definition of genocide in order to prove that Bosnia Serb leaders
had intentions to eliminate Bosniaks. (M.S, Genocide) Although this may be true, since their reason
was to unify Serb land, we cannot disregard the fact that they used ethnic cleansing to make this
happen, which in turn eliminated Bosniaks from Srebrenica. Is it then morally, and legally right to say
that the ends justify the means in this case, in the sense that it would not be considered a genocide? I

Entertainment In Brave New World
What do you think of when you hear the word entertainment? Do you ever wonder why it s the way it
is? Have you wondered what forces, ideas, and people have molded and shaped it over time? How
does entertainment affect culture and a society? These are questions that might have many different
answers of varying explanations and magnitudes. For centuries, people have looked to a multitude of
different things to do as a way to escape their normal lives and to have fun. So then came various
forms of entertainment. Although it may not seem so at first glance, taking a more critical look at the
similarities that our society shares with the Brave New World s society may yield some shocking
discoveries. Entertainment. What is it? The Oxford Dictionary defines entertainment as The action of
providing or being provided with amusement or enjoyment. Huxley wrote Brave New World to prove
his thesis that leisure in society does not lead to increased culture. In our society, our culture, when
someone thinks of entertainment, they typically think of a movie, music, news, a book, magazines,

to distract citizens, and make them docile. The use of soma, constant intercourse, immersive
entertainment machines, and presumably many other sources of entertainment put the citizens of the
Brave New World in a sort of mental comatose or haze. But then I ask you, how different is our
society in this sense? First, let s look at initial exposure. On average, children between the ages 2 5
watch about 32 hours a week worth of television/media.(XXXX) that s 1,664 hours a year, about 69
days, or almost 10 weeks. That much exposure has massive impacts on the developing brain. From

The Importance Of Technology In Education
I am well aware of how technology can be an aid to education. I lived most of my life in Spain, which
is considered a first world country. However, in terms of education, Spain falls behind. Even though I
didn t notice it, not having a technologically advanced classroom hindered my learning. It wouldn t be
until I moved to the US that I realized how useful technology can be to the student. I truly believe that
technology can help the majority of the students, and not just myself. As someone who has faced both
sides of the coin, studying in a place where technology was discouraged in the classroom and studying
in a place where technology was proactively encouraged, I believe that my experience can open
people s eyes to the usefulness of technology in education. I wasn t aware of how backwards Spain
was with technology until I moved to the U.S. Ever since I was a young kid, I became aware of how
discouraged technology was. It first started when my school prohibited the use of any handheld
system. Whether it was a nintendo DS, a gameboy, or a PSP, none of these were allowed entry into the
school. The teachers were ordered to take away these devices if any kid was to be found with one.
While it may not seem like a big issue, it s still a start. Surely, handheld gaming devices don t
necessarily help in education, but they teach kids how to get started with electronics. Video games can
often pave paths to a better understanding of technology. A recent example would be kids learning
how to download games on an apple device. We might not think much about it, but being able to do
simple tasks on modern technology deepens the understanding of that said technology. Not only does
it make the person more knowledgeable, but it also fuels his or her spirit of self learning, a very
important characteristic.
My school also didn t offer many computing classes. My school also discouraged the use of computers
for classwork. Don t get me wrong, we had about 30 to 50 minutes per week in a computing class, and
it was somewhat helpful. After all, we learned how to use Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. We
learned some topics, like hardware and software but that was it. We didn t learn how to do many
essential things, like

Women s Role In Christianity
Women have played a major part in Christianity and are an example of the unevenness of women s
commitments to history. Women like Mary Magdalene were at the cross and the first at the vacant
tomb. Conventional Christianity trusted that the announcements credited to St. Paul in I Timothy 2
that women were made second, sinned first, and ought to keep quiet. Women traditionalists accepted
and acknowledged these lessons as genuine. Jesus activities as indicated by the Bible reliably resonate
his confidence in the fairness of women, and that woman could study, educate and lecture.
Paul forced a patriarchal elucidation of Christianity that showed that women are substandard,
essentially chargeable for transgression and the fall of mankind, and barred ... Show more content on

She reviled this womanly state as hindering for her longing to rise above womanhood and die for God.
Being a pregnant woman lessened Felicity to being basic and denied her any radiance. Subsequently,
she was relieved when she gave birth before the execution and was separated from the child that
chains her to sexuality and womanhood. The subject of the account is by all accounts that women can

who rises above the limits of her society and turns out on the prevailing side. For that, it is an

From the earliest starting point of the early Christian church, beginning with Jesus, women were
important to the movement. When Paul started his preacher development, women were essential in
communities. The various leveled religious philosophy has put women under the man s power in the

The Reign Of Ancient Greek Philosophers
Aristotle
The reign of ancient Greek philosophers was one that was remembered for centuries. One philosopher
stood out amongst the rest. He is known as Aristotle. Aristotle made extremely significant
contributions to human knowledge. His writings were extremely incredible and he paved the way for
philosophers long after him. Aristotle was born in 384 B.C in a town called Stagira in the northern part
of Greece. He was born to a set of parents who were members of medical families. His father was a
physician to the King of Macedonia, but later died when Aristotle was a young boy. Because his father
was so close with the court of Macedonia, Aristotle was still affiliated for the rest of his life. After the
death of his father, Aristotle was left without a guardian. His sister s, Arimneste, husband became his
guardian until he was legally old enough to take care of himself. Around the age of 17, he was sent to
Athens to get an education. Athens was known as the academic core of the world. Aristotle enrolled in
Plato s academy and was one of the top scholars. Plato s academy was one of the top learning centers
at the time. Aristotle formed a relationship with Plato, who was a Greek philosopher, and taught at the
academy for 20 years. Plato died in 347 B.C. Despite their relationship, Aristotle did not agree with
Plato s philosophy, so he did not become the director of the academy after Plato s death. Aristotle left

The Atlacatl was an elite armed force that specialized in counter insurgency combat and was training
by the United States military. It received a mission known as Operacíon Rescate, which translates into

surrounding El Mozote. The fighters in this force accused the villagers of supporting FMLN and
supplying them with food, arms, and people. This accusation eventually escalated to the torturing of
certain members of the community and then the barbaric killing of close to a thousand people. The
Atlacatl used various methods to murder and terrorize the people of El Mozote that included

Erectile Dysfunction
It refers to the inability of a male to sustain erection consistently and repeatedly. It is a common
problem and is reported that it affects around 18 30 million men. It exerts considerable effects on the
quality of life. Most of the time people are reluctant to talk about it to others even to doctors. This is
why it is important to address this problem openly.
What are the mechanics of erectile dysfunction?
The penis contains two cylinder shaped chambers called corpora cavernosa which runs along the
length of the penis. They contain arteries which bring the blood to the penis and veins which take the
blood away from the penis. When there is sexual stimulation either physically or mentally our brain
sends a message to the nerves in the penis to cause the relaxation of the penile arteries. This increases
the blood flow to the penis making it stiff and hard, thus achieving erection. There is simultaneous
contraction of specialized muscles located in the penis which compresses the veins and reduces the
outflow of blood from the

Student At Depaul University For Three Years Now
Reflective Essay I have been a student at DePaul University for three years now. Over the course of
my stay I have grown and learned how to write essays as Biology major. This class pointed out to me
the things that science majors tend to neglect when they write their essays and lab reports; for
example, punctuation, and citation. This is something I ve gotten better at, but still improving. Most
importantly, I ve learned how to analyze a text. The scientific essays I am used to reading, rarely do I
have to read between the lines. It was hard but quite interesting to go read an essay and having to
break it down from the argument, to the tools used and the author s opinion even when not directly
stated. Throughout the course, I ve also learned how helpful it is to share your work with classmates. I
used to think only the professor had the beneficial feedback and would never bother asking people
from my class. However, I ve learned that they have a fresh perspective and could help. For example,
when I presented my research paper, I wasn t expecting any feedback that would be that helpful,
simply because I assumed the class wasn t familiar with my topic. However, I was surprised that not
only were some familiar, but they had questions about my topic, and when I responded to them I

The Roaring Twenties Essay
The 1920s were an exciting and fascinating time in American history. An old Victorian nation had
transformed into a vibrant, modernized America. Often called The Roaring Twenties , this time
featured the famous slicked back hair, vibrant Flappers, and of course, marathon dances. From inflated
economics to unprecedented invention, forces collided to produce the most explosive decade of the
century.
The Roaring Twenties encapsulates a captivating story that began with the return of young soldiers
from the front of World War I. Those who had once courageously sacrificed their lives for America
came home. They came home to adopt a new, regenerated lifestyle. President Warren Harding had

had become part of everyday life. Furthermore, in the latter half of the 1920s, a Scottish engineer

years, Baird became the first person to transmit images to and from London and New York. He
designed electrical recordings, the stereoscopic television, and even color television.
Nevertheless, not everyone benefited from the revolution of technology. America was on its way to

As the 1920s climaxed, there was an emergence of the confident face of femininity. Women gained

The War of 1812 was the first war where the US actually declared war on anybody. The US was ready

Americans who were ready for war were referred to as War Hawks, Henry Clay being amongst them.

How Does Maya Angelou Relate To Racism
Maya Angelou and the Theme of Racism
Poems provide a new insight and portray many meanings. Maya Angelou, born in 1928, was a highly
achieved, versatile woman whom is an author, poet, dancer, and actress. In her poems and in life,
racism is integrated. This is seen in Angelou s familial and other life experiences, the literary devices
seen in Still I Rise, and the extension of the metaphor in Caged Bird.
Maya Angelou was born in St. Louis, MO and soon later moved to a segregated part of AK, known as
Stamps. This relocation was because of her parents divorce and Angelou was only 3 when it
happened. When this 7 year old girl was visiting her mother back in MO, she suffered at the hands of a
family associate (Maya Angelou Biography). According to Poetry Foundation, Maya was raped by her
mother s boyfriend. As a result of this crime , Maya s uncles killed this man. This man was able to be
killed because seeing Angelou was black, this man only received a one day sentence for the rape. This

Interestingly enough, according to Gee, established author James Baldwin convinced Maya to write I
Know Why a Caged Bird Sings , an autobiography in which includes Caged Bird. This poem really is
an extended metaphor, according to Caged Bird by Maya Angelou: Interpretive Essay Swanierenglish.
The whole poem centers around the concept that the free bird are the white people, while the caged
bird are the African Americans. This is supported by the actual poem, provided by AfroPoets, The
whites can practically do whatever they want as they dare to claim the sky. The blacks wings are
clipped meaning they cannot do much because of their race. This poem portrays the attitudes of
African American s general experiences during the Civil Rights era (Caged Bird by Maya Angelou:

Examples Of Chivalry In Beowulf
Some say chivalry is dead , I don t think so. Chivalry is a code of conduct governing a knight s
behavior. It s the combination of qualities expected of an ideal person, especially bravery, loyalty, and
honor. One of the main elements of chivalry is bravery, in the story we read Beowulf s last Battle, an
example of braver was , He could see how his king was suffering ... Wiglaf mind was made up ; he
raised his yellow shield and drew his sword. in the story Wiglaf went back to help his king fight, that
showed bravery. An example of bravery today is people going/volunteer in the military and army. That
shows bravery because, you re sacrificing your life for other and your country. The second element of
chivalry is loyalty, in the story we read called Le Monte d Arthur, an example of loyalty was My lords,
I am reluctant to shed christian blood in a war against my own liege. He is showing loyalty to his king
by not wanting to go to war with him. An example of Loyalty today is people being loyal to their
country, like pledging to the flag, that shows loyalty to your country. ... Show more content on

beowulf asked ... sealed his ashes in walls. The treasures were left there too..twelve Geats ride around
the tower, telling stories about beowulf. This shows honor because they showed respect after death.By
keeping something in remembrance of him. Todays example of honor is memorial day, because they

Speech On Discipline
Discipline is a highly sought after quality in work, school, sports, and in almost everything. Without
discipline, there can be no success or spiritual growth. With discipline comes success; discipline also
means doing things most people do not want to do. Luther talks about the importance discipline in his
writings. He says in freedom of a Christian, Here then the works begin; here he must not take his ease;
here he must give heed to exercise his body by fastings, watchings, labour, and other regular
discipline, so that it may be subdued to the spirt, and obey and conform itself to the inner man and
faith and not rebel against nor hinder them, as is its nature to do if it is not kept under (Luther). He is
saying discipline is really important to controlling the body and not the other way around. Have
discipline in the daily tasks or smaller tasks, and there will be discipline in the more important tasks or
bigger tasks. What is the definition of Discipline, one might ask? Merriam Webster defines discipline
as, training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character (Discipline).
Discipline is so important to life, without it nothing would get done. One thing is for sure, not
everyone is born with natural talent; everyone has the ability to be disciplined and work hard in their
everyday tasks. The Apostle Paul says No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on,
however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for

To be defeated was shameful but to prevail was a way to gain respect and honor. The accounts in Heike tell us that one could defeat an opponent by exiling him, insulting him, or even taking revenge upon him. Because being defeated was shameful, warriors would kill themselves before being killed by the opponent. If a warrior failed in his duty, suicide would be the necessary measure taken to regain honor. Not only could suicide be a way to gain honor, it could also be a way to shame someone. If you prohibit your enemy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If I miss, I ll smash my bow and kill myself I ll never show my face again (420). Munetaka knew that his failure would disgrace the Genji and his suicide would be the only way of recompense. Heike also reveals that another way to defeat your enemy and another way to be shamed by your enemy was through humiliation. Kiyomori often humiliated his enemies. He exiled Naritsune, Yasuyori, and Shunkan to Kikai ga shima, a faraway island, because they were conspiring against the Taira. Later, only Naritsune and Yasuyori were pardoned but Shunkan was not. This was Kiyomori s revenge on Shunkan because Kiyomori had given Shunkan his job and still had the nerve to betray him (290 291). Through exile, Kiyomori shamed Naritsune, Yasuyori, and Shunkan by denying them the opportunity to commit suicide but sentencing them to death by starvation. Insults were another way to shame your enemy. Nakatsuma passive aggressively denies Munemori the chance to ride Konoshita, his horse, by saying the horse was tired from having been overridden (306). A Case Study Introduction On November 14, 2000 Olav Larsson, Managing Director of Sunwind, eased back in his seat as his A380 climbed away from Tokyo s Narita Airport to begin the 17 hour flight to Gothenburg, Sweden. He was returning from a 10 day trip to Japan where he had visited factories of Nissan and Mazda as well as a number of their parts suppliers. This visit had reinforced his conviction that Sunwind should initiate a proposal to Volvo, its major customer, that Just In Time delivery of floor lids1 be made directly onto its 700 series automobile assembly lines at Torslanda, near Gothenburg, Kalmer, a port city on Sweden s east cost, and at Ghent in Belgium. Lars estimated Sunwind s current single shift capacity at approximately 1,250 units/week. To achieve this, he had hired an additional 20 people at the beginning of August and established three shift operations on a numerically controlled milling machine used to shape plywood parts. Effective capacity was actually less than 1,250 units/week due to equipment failures, e.g. the gluing machine had proved particularly troublesome and had increased rejects. Recent causes of the rejects included seeping through the carpeting that covered the plywood forms. Volvo had also rejected a shipment of floor lids due to differences in the shade of carpeting covering the four separate pieces which made up a floor lid. Such difficulties could not have come a worse time, when Lars was already concerned by the world wide trend of major manufacturers in the automobile industry to rely on fewer suppliers. He knew that Toyota, which industry observers continually cited for its productivity gains, relied on only 320 suppliers, while Volvo had over 600. Headlines such as Volvo will reduce number of suppliers; pressure on sub contractors in Dagens Nyheter, one of Sweden s major daily newspapers, did not help his peace of mind. In L5, the chassis (without motherboard installed) are shipped to the US first and followed by the motherboards being airfreight to the US as shown in Figure 6 4. This indicates a higher logistic cost from airfreight if motherboard is not manufactured in time to be shipped (via ocean) from China to US where motherboard is in need to be assembled with the empty chassis to satisfy surge demand. At the same time, if only the empty chassis reached the shores at Dell s SLC awaiting the motherboard to be arrived, this would incur unnecessary holding inventory cost. The total complexity remains competitively at 56 and at a reasonable cost per box of $7.61. As this reasonable expense, option 4 stay at the optimal solution. QUESTION 3 How easily sustainable is your recommendation for the previous question if the chipset supply shortage further deteriorates? Given option 4 recommendation, Dell directly manages the 3PI (figure 6 1). This allows better control over the 3PI which results in better quality (over product design and manufacturing process) and time management in integrating different parts from vendors. In this context, Dell no longer needs to sit idle, waiting for chipset to be delivered. With control over 3PI, Dell and 3PI can determine when and how many motherboards to manufacture in China and airfreight to US later for integration (1 week of airfreight) while the chassis is shipped in the event of chipset is not available (5 weeks). Hence, planning ahead to minimize shortage of chipset to satisfy the demand in the long run is one of the contingency plans from disrupting the supply chain. In return, minimize higher expense. The shortage of chipset is not only due to manufacturer s capacity constraints; it could be defects from manufacturing. Therefore, Dell wouldn t want to just rely on supplier but to take control of the internal operational improvement to target cost saving model and maintaining manufacturing flexibility. ... However, many actions that we perform and certain ways we behave in society are often quickly overlooked and not questioned. We often do not understand why we perform certain tasks or adhere to certain rules. However, we still paradoxically pride ourselves in our freedom. By analyzing the sociological perspective, we can understand how much of a role society often plays in our actions and behavior as individuals in society. Certainly, the sociological perspective can allow us to analyze events in the movie The Long Walk Home more closely. The sociological perspective can allow us to understand how the actions of the characters are often chained and their behaviors controlled by society, through using the theories of social location, social control, and social stratification. The sociological perspective can also allow us to understand why these characters strangely adhered to these forms of oppressive control and often resisted change, through using role theory and the sociology of knowledge. Lastly, the sociological perspective will allow us to understand how actors can break free of these bindings, through using an interpretive analysis and applying concepts such as freedom, ecstasy, and bad faith. Overall, the sociological perspective allows us to understand the personalities, actions, and story of The Long Walk Home through revealing to us how these features were guided through control, ... She had such a complicated relationship with her father, and she was in great need for an heir to the throne, she could have convinced herself she was pregnant. She also had a very complicated relationship with her husband, who only came to England when he had to. He was not in love with Mary like she was in love with him. He was very unpopular in England and he knew no one liked him. The people knew that a relationship with Spain meant war with France, and England did not want that. Mary s emotions controlled her political obligations, knowing she should have chosen another husband to avoid war with France, but her feelings for Philip overtook her control. While she was in the midst of her phantom pregnancies, May was still trying to restore the Catholic faith in England. Mary believed that the way to do this was to charge the Protestant rulers with crimes and burn them at the stake. They are found on sandy or rocky beaches. Intertidal communities are known as tidal pools that are covered by water during high tide and vulnerable to air at low tide. These communities can be very complex and overcrowded areas. The species that are present are Nori Seaweed, Black Pine, Coral Weed, Mussel, Acorn Barnacle, Goose Neck Barnacle, Whelk, Chiton, Starfish, and Green Crab. Nori Seaweed is the weakest competitor in the sessile consumers. The sessile organisms are permanently located on rocks and don t move. The barnacles and mussel dominate over all the sessile organisms. The starfish feeds mainly off the mussel and is the specie that governs the whole intertidal zone. When the green crab is added they dominate over the starfish and they can sometimes cause destruction among the entire ecosystem. In the hot desert, during the day, the heat is almost unbearable, but during the night, it dips down into freezing temperatures. It usually never rains, but when it does, it rains in short bursts between rainless periods. The reason for the temperatures fluctuating so often is due to the atmosphere not having sufficient humidity. The sand there is course, shallow, and rocky with good drainage, but no subsurface water. For example, ethanol contains one more methylene group (CH2) than methanol. When the ethanol is burnt, it will have one additional C C group and two additional C H bonds to be broken. When the bonds of the C C and C H bonds are broken, this creates an endothermic process and more energy is needed to break the bonds. • 14. Economic Theory Of Mercantilism The Mercantilist economic theory brings to view the nationalist effort that maximizes trade and the accumulation of gold and silver at the expense of other nations. This economic theory promotes national regulation of the economy and trade through the process of expanding the domestic industry. This approach went against free trade as it practices restrict imports and raise trade tariffs. Mercantilism was the primary economic system of trade between the 16th and 18th century, and it understood that wealth was static. Its perception of wealth led to the European nations implementing tariffs that would ensure they maintained their power through their wealth. This wealth perception restricted trade through tariffs that restricted imports while promoting exports. Hence, the static attitude of trade ensured that the European nations imposed their government regulations over countries that they were interested commercially. Therefore, the Mercantilism economic theory identified the insecurities of the European nations as the global market increased and their influences diminished. According to William Baker, Mercantilism played a huge role in facilitating the trade system practiced between the 16th and 18th century. Hence, Mercantilism was used to justify the role that slavery played in enhancing European wealth. • 16. Analysis Of Getting Back To The Wrong Nature By William... Tai Beiserman Professor Nachumi ENGL 1100 26 April 2015 Blake s use of nature through Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience William Bill Cronon, an environmental historian and vice Chair of The Wilderness Society, believes that because society differ its self from the nature, it makes the nature to be seen as wild, remote, and inaccessible. In his essay The Trouble with Wilderness; or, Getting Back to the Wrong Nature , published in 1995 by the New York Times and in Uncommon Ground: Toward Reinventing Nature, Cronon traced the idea of wilderness throughout American history. Cronon presents the potential danger in society s traditional concept of wilderness. He points out how society detached itself from nature simply by idealizing it and thinking of it as something distant and remote. Approaching the concept of nature in this way leads to an ultimate separation of us, as members of society, from what we could consider to be our true home. As a result of that, the nature is seen as wild, remote and inaccessible. Although Cronon might be right to some extent, that is not always the case. Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience were written by William Blake and published together in 1798. • 19. The Family Systems Theory During The Mid 20th Century Murray Bowen, an American psychiatrist, began developing what would become known as the family systems theory during the mid 20th century. He believed that the family was an emotional unit and that it could be best understood by looking not just at current family interactions but the interactions of prior generations as well (Helm, 2009). His focus was on using theory, not therapy, to treat the patient and the cornerstone of that theory is that human behavior is based on a person being able to maintain intimacy with loved ones while differentiating themselves sufficiently as individuals so as not to be swept up by what is transpiring within the family (p. 205). At both the Menninger Clinic and the National Institute of Mental Health, Bowen became interested in schizophrenia specifically in relation to the mother and child. He soon realized that he needed to focus on the entire family rather than just mother and child to provide a more accurate picture for his research. The Bowen Family Systems theory was born of this realization. The basic premise of the family systems theory is that the therapist cannot fully understand or successfully treat the client without first grasping how that individual functions within their family system. To this end, Bowen postulated eight interlocking concepts for the family as an emotional unit and they are differentiation of self, triangles, nuclear family emotional process, family projection process, emotional cutoff, multigenerational ... • 24. Analysis Of Social Life By Philip Larkin In the first stanza of the poem, Larkin sets us in the middle of mundane middle class English social life. He notes that we involve ourselves in all sorts of socializing; but even though we fill up our time with such social activities, Larkin suggests that such a life is empty and that although we disguise it from ourselves, underneath we really want to be alone. In the second stanza he extends the wish to be alone to its logical terminus, death. He suggests, then, that in spite of our social involvement we all have a death wish within us and that immersing ourselves in the social round is harmful because it is a mechanism we use to prevent ourselves from coming to terms with death and our desire for it; i.e. we kill our natural awareness towards death and the temporal nature of life through indulgence in social traps. Throughout the course of 11 days, over 8,000 Bosniak Bosnian Muslim males, specifically those who were of age to join the military, were rounded up, and killed by the Bosnian Serb army. The army s defense for their actions was that they were trying to reunite Serb territory after the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina became its own state. Despite this claim, the ICTY still charged Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, two of the men who spearheaded the ethnic cleansing campaign in Bosnia, with war crimes including genocide. However, scholars debate whether Srebrenica, albeit horrible, and other instances like itself, being labeled a genocide is a misapplication of the term. For centuries, people have looked to a multitude of different things to do as a way to escape their normal lives and to have fun. So then came various forms of entertainment. Although it may not seem so at first glance, taking a more critical look at the similarities that our society shares with the Brave New World s society may yield some shocking discoveries. • 28. The Importance Of Technology In Education I am well aware of how technology can be an aid to education. I lived most of my life in Spain, which is considered a first world country. However, in terms of education, Spain falls behind. Even though I didn t notice it, not having a technologically advanced classroom hindered my learning. It wouldn t be until I moved to the US that I realized how useful technology can be to the student. I truly believe that technology can help the majority of the students, and not just myself. As someone who has faced both sides of the coin, studying in a place where technology was discouraged in the classroom and studying in a place where technology was proactively encouraged, I believe that my experience can open people s eyes to the usefulness of technology in education. I wasn t aware of how backwards Spain was with technology until I moved to the U.S. Ever since I was a young kid, I became aware of how discouraged technology was. It first started when my school prohibited the use of any handheld system. Whether it was a nintendo DS, a gameboy, or a PSP, none of these were allowed entry into the school. The teachers were ordered to take away these devices if any kid was to be found with one. While it may not seem like a big issue, it s still a start. Surely, handheld gaming devices don t necessarily help in education, but they teach kids how to get started with electronics. Video games can often pave paths to a better understanding of technology. A recent example would be kids learning how to download games on an apple device. We might not think much about it, but being able to do simple tasks on modern technology deepens the understanding of that said technology. Not only does it make the person more knowledgeable, but it also fuels his or her spirit of self learning, a very important characteristic. My school also didn t offer many computing classes. My school also discouraged the use of computers for classwork. Don t get me wrong, we had about 30 to 50 minutes per week in a computing class, and it was somewhat helpful. The penis contains two cylinder shaped chambers called corpora cavernosa which runs along the length of the penis. They contain arteries which bring the blood to the penis and veins which take the blood away from the penis. When there is sexual stimulation either physically or mentally our brain sends a message to the nerves in the penis to cause the relaxation of the penile arteries.
