Essay about Importance of the Ocean in Chopin s Awakening
Importance of the Ocean in Chopin s Awakening
In Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, Chopin uses the motif of the ocean to signify the awakening
of Edna Pontellier. Chopin compares the life of Edna to the dangers and beauty of a seductive ocean.
Edna s fascinations with the unknown wonders of the sea help influence the reader to understand the
similarities between Edna s life and her relationship with the ocean. Starting with fear and danger of
the water then moving to a huge symbolic victory over it, Chopin uses the ocean as a powerful force
in Edna s awakening to the agony and complexity of her life.
Danger and beauty serve as Edna s first outlook on the ocean. Early in her development, Edna
observes the ocean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. (14) Edna s senses are stimulated by all the sounds of the
ocean. Along with the call of the sea, Edna becomes more aware of her own self and desires, which
lead her to look within herself. As Edna s relationship with the ocean becomes more intimate, she
treats the ocean as if it were her lover and true desire. The touch of the sea is sensuous enfolding the
body in its soft, close embrace. The `dreaded fear has now converted to a `sensuous outlook. Edna is
hungry to experience all the elements of the ocean and, at the same time, she is opening herself to
exploring her inner feelings.
With her new familiarity with the sea, Edna constructs a divergent perspective of the water and its
potent force in her life. The new awareness gives Edna courage to face her fears. Instead of depending
on someone to help her in the water, she decides to start swimming by herself. This act represents a
major step in Edna s awakening to independence. One day, Edna becomes possessed with a power that
she all of a sudden realizes she has inside her. A feeling of exultation overtook her, as if some power
of significant import had been given her soul. She grew daring and reckless, overestimating her
strength. She wanted to swim far out, where no woman had swum

An Analysis Of Everyday Ambassador, By Kate Otto
First and foremost, the novel Everyday Ambassador, by Kate Otto, opens the eyes of many, and makes
people realise that there are four simple values they can add into their everyday lives to make a
difference. By adding these values into your life you could make a difference for not only yourself but
for your neighbors, community, and maybe even the world. An everyday ambassador has to have
focus, empathy, humility, and patience. By realizing you want to make a change you are already on the
journey to becoming an everyday ambassador.
First, one value that you should take a look into adding into your life is focus. Focus is when you have
your interest and attention on one certain object or task. By allowing focus into your everyday habits
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Third, another value needed to be on the path to be an everyday ambassador is humility. Humility is
knowing we are important and equal to everybody else around us no matter what age, skin color, or
religion they have. We should not have to wake up everyday and get likes on social media to feel
important. We shouldn t compare our lives to others and put people down because they are different
than us. Having humility allows you to realize that it is okay to not be an expert at everything and
know that sometimes you can t contribute as much as others. But knowing that, allows you to find
aspects of your life where you can help and make a difference. You should be putting yourself into
situations where you can help change the world even if it is one small step at a time. By doing this you
can become an everyday ambassador.
Lastly, the fourth and final value you need to have to become an everyday ambassador is patience.
Patience is the ability to overcome annoyance when confronted with some kind of delay of results.
This has become a very distinct problem with people as we have every answer we could ever want at
our fingertips. By having patience in your life and letting yourself know that results could take a while
puts you on the path to becoming an everyday ambassador. You need to know, especially if you want
to help change people s lives or change the world, that seeing results could take a very long time.
However, if you do have the patience

Cilia Essay
Cilia; An Essential Motility Centre Whose Defects Are Implicated in Many Diseases
In the summer of 1674, the Dutch scientist Antoni van Leeuwenhoek looked through a homemade
microscope at a sample of rain water and revolutionized the human view of the world. What he found
was little legs that we now know are the cilia that many single celled protozoa use for locomotion.
Almost exactly 300 years later, the observations of Swedish scientists Afzelius led to another
paradigm shift, when he linked defects in the machinery required for the movement of human cilia to
Kartagener s syndrome (KS), a disease characterized by chronic sinus and respiratory infections; male
infertility; and, incredibly, the misplacement of the heart and other organs (Brown Whitman 2014). He
too came up with the hypothesis that the existence of so called sensory hairs protruding from the cell
surface into the extracellular space was to explain the poor sense of smell and decreased hearing
ability in patients with KS (Pennekamp et al. Cilia 2015). Almost two decades after Afzelius presented

provide a necessary function in the motile human cilia. The main causal difference in types of cilia
most likely derived from expression of sensory receptors on the motile cilia to attain material from the
environment. It has been posited that enhanced specialization of cilia lead to the development of
complex sensory organs such as the retina (Biosci

The Romantic Victorians Essay
The Romantic Victorians
Finding a similarity between the Romantic era and the Victorian era can be quite a challenge because
of the all the differences between them. This Lime Tree Bower My Prison written by Samuel Taylor
Coleridge is a great example of a literary work of the Romantic era because of the various themes that
compose it. The The Lady of Shallot by Alfred, Lord Tennyson in the Victorian era is a poem that can
portray the society that shaped the era. Both poems share the theme isolation because the main
characters in the poem are isolated from others.
The Romantics era lasted from the year 1798 to the year 1834 and is an era full of changes. In this era

That forced many women writers to start publishing anonymously their works of literature (Susan

Samuel Taylor Coleridge is among the artists that helped build the essence of the era. His literary is
still recognized widely around the world. He is the youngest child born in the year 1772 and died in
the year 1834. He attended the Jesus College but did not receive a degree. The first literature work that
he published with Wordsworth is the Lyrical Ballads, published in the year 1798. One of the poems
that is included in that work of art is I The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere. Unfortunately, He took
opium to relief his rheumatic pains and that is when his addiction began. Coleridge s addiction to
opium is not accepted by his society and he became more and more dependent. The poem Kubla Khan
is greatly influenced by opium and he leaves the ending of the poem to the imagination of the reader.
He also sends a poem entitled The Pains of Sleep to his brother in law Robert Southey to explain to
him his suffering of depending on opium. Coleridge shows signs of hope when he says, That I am
weak, yet not unblest, / Since in me, round me, every where / Eternal Strength and Wisdom are (11

express that he wants love to help him through his opium addiction (52). There is no doubt that

Culture Is The Sum Total Of Ways Of Living Built Up By A...
What is culture? Culture has a very broad definition. But in terms of anthropology, culture is the sum
total of ways of living built up by a group of human beings and transmitted from one generation to
another (www.dictionary.com). Culture is learned, it is passed on from many generations. What is
gender? Gender is either the male or female division of a species, especially as differentiated by social
and cultural roles and behavior. However, gender plays a big role in culture all around the world. In
this analysis essay I will be analyzing how males and females are raised with differences in third
world countries compared to the western culture of the United States. What are the roles that males
and females have? In countries such as India, Pakistan, China, there is still a lot of controversy about
how a male and female should be treated. It has a lot to do with culture and tradition. Some of these
cultural traits have been passed down from generations and are still around which some people follow.
Some may consider it double standards and others may think that it is the norm. So how is gender
related to culture? In society it is expected that the women and men behave a certain way. The gender
disparities are shaped and formed by culture. It is better explained by Jyotirmaya Tripathy who wrote
the article How Gendered is Gendered Development? Culture, Masculinity, and Gender Differences ,
she explains that though there has been some modernity in third

Go Back To Where You Came From And Neighbours Summary
Discoveries challenge a persons views, as shown in the docudrama Go Back to Where You Came from
and Neighbours . Go Back explores the journey of six Australians as they are exposed to the reality of
refugees, thus challenging their assumptions. Neighbours similarly is a story of newcomers to an
ethnic neighbourhood as their cultural discoveries led the newcomers to accepting their neighbours.
When a discovery has an immense impact on a person, views may be challenged as the individual
gains a new outlook. Go Back begins with indirect interviews of the participants, thus allowing the
audience to gain an insight into their perspectives regarding refugees. Raye s views are ones of
hostility, as seen when she says, When the boat crashed coming into Christmas Island I thought serves
you bastards right . The use of colloquial language demonstrates the rawness of her views and lack of
hesitation to express such powerful and aggressive opinions. However, these assumptions are soon
challenged when the ladies visit refugee Maisara and hear her story. For Raye, Maisaras story of
losing her child impacted Raye s assumption immensely due to similar traumatic experiences. I ve had
problems carrying pregnancies through ... I do know where she s coming from. This discovery of
common humanity is emphasised through the close up shot of Raye s face which exposes her crying.
Such raw emotion thus demonstrates the impact of this discovery on Raye s assumptions towards
refugees. This impact is further seen in the final interview of the series, where Raye expresses her
newfound views regarding refugees. I then started to see more and get a broader view of what was
happening to these people, followed by, It breaks my heart to watch it . Such heart felt statements is in
stark contrast to her initial interview as her self reflection shows how her discovery of the realty of
refugees modified her views. Thus, Go Back , by exposing Raye s transition following her discovery
of common humanity, demonstrates that discoveries can challenge a persons views.
Different persons will be affected differently by discoveries, as will to accept and change is a factor
that plays a large role in the changing of assumptions. Raquel

Insolvency Practitioners
The rules regulating the independence of insolvency practitioners serve an important purpose in the
profession; to secure public confidence in the impartiality and effectiveness of the regulations and
discipline of the insolvency system. The purpose of my report is to comment on the expectations
imposed upon liquidators including whether the Walton Constructions Pty Limited (2014) FCAFC 85
( the Walton case ), sets an unrealistic standard. The importance of the Walton case is for insolvency
practitioners to recognise the legal principles that can be drawn from the decision. Although I am able

There is a clear shift towards principles based regulation in the insolvency profession. The leading
purposes of the Code is to provide broad principles that can be applied to a multitude of circumstances
with the aim of averting practitioners from justifying a particular course of action via a loophole in the
Act. The results of cases such as the Walton case serve as a reminder to practitioners that the Act
merely provides a minimum benchmark as to the appropriate course of action and that practitioners
should have regard to the requirements of the code when considering a new appointment.
Interestingly, Honourable Justice Robertson made the following comment in the Walton case being
that he does not regard the Insolvency Practitioners Association of Australia s guide as extrinsic
material appropriate or permitted to be taken into account in construing s 60 and 436DA of the Act.
Although this is the case, the Code is still pertinent to practitioners. As stated by Miss Alicia Hill and
Jessica Patrick although the Code cannot be directly taken into account in construing legislation, it has
a very important place in regulating insolvency

The Meeting of The White Council
Gandalf s thoughts weighed heavily on his shoulders as he rode west. Only time could tell whether
Bilbo and the dwarves had taken his advice properly, the dwarves could be very stubborn. Gandalf, of
course, was thinking entirely about them when he had left for the west for if the wizard had joined
them he could have ensured their protection during what is probably the most dangerous part of their
journey. Nevertheless he knew of the dangers that followed if he had not left, as the business he had to

Taking a Look at Christian Culture
Written Report:
Christianity is the world s largest religion. Two of the five centers are located in Turkey: Istanbul (also
known as Constantinople) and Antakya. Antakya was also a place where the followers of Jesus were
called Christians for the first time in history. The Hagia Sophia church (recognized by Saint Peter) is
one of the oldest surviving churches located right in Anasofya Meydanı, Istanbul. Turkey is also home
to Seven Churches of Asia, where Revelations to John (the final book of the New Evidence) were sent.
Today, Turkey has more than 120,000 Christians, it includes 80,000 Armenian 35,000 Roman
Catholics, 17,000 Assyrian, 4,000 Assyrians of the Chaldean Catholic, 3,000 4,000 Greek Orthodox,
10,000 Antiochian Greeks. There are also 349 active churches.
There are three main groups of Christianity: Catholicism, Orthodoxy and Protestantism. Catholic
churches are controlled by bishops and are close with the Pope. With more than 1.1 billion members,
the Catholic Church is the largest church representing over half of all Christians and one sixth of the
world s population. Eastern Orthodoxy is the second largest single value in Christianity with over 200
million supporters. The total number of Protestants are very undefined because of the difficulty in
defining values should be placed in these categories, but it is clear that Protestantism is the second
largest major group of Christians after Catholicism (although the Orthodox Church is larger than any

Helen Keller Metaphor
Helen Keller, who was born on June 27th, 1880 and died June 1st, 1968, was one of the most
important people of her time. She accomplished so much in fields such as literature and politics. The
fact that she was able to do so much with her life is impressive not only in the fact that she was a
woman, but more impressive due to the fact that she became blind and deaf at only eighteen months
old. Through the help of Anne Sullivan though, Keller, was able to learn so much. This short story,
The Day Language Came into My Life, is an excerpt from her autobiography, where she recalls her
memories from when she first learned about language. In her story, Keller, uses a unique metaphor to
describe what it was like going from no language to having a language. She does this by comparing
herself to a boat in a dense fog with no compass or sounding line, who was just lost at sea in a tangible
darkness, and then the light came into her world. This light that meant so much to Keller was the love
of her teacher, Anne Sullivan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most prominent examples is when she smashes the doll on the ground because she had not
loved the doll because in that world she had not known love. Later in the story though after she has

represents Keller and how before the light comes she is angry and broken but then after the light she
feels more complete, even though the doll doesn t get fixed completely. One other example is the time
when she feels water and learns what it is called, and suddenly feels awakened, hopeful, and even free.
All in all, Helen Keller s use of metaphor is very effective in describing her experience. Through her
metaphor she conveys how language and love come into her life and push out all of the fog and
completely change her world for the better, giving her hope, happiness, and the feeling of

Reform Movements in the United States Sought to Expand...
As Americans entered an era of transition and instability, they sought to expand democratic ideals in
the society. In response to sudden changes occurring and traditional values being challenged, various
reform movements during 1825 1850 began to focus on democratic ideals. The rise of religious
revivals, movements for equal rights and protecting liberties of different social groups, want to
advance society technologically, and desire to bring order and control helped reform the society to live
up to the nation s founding ideals. Teaching them (I don t get who them is) the habits of thrift,
orderliness, temperance and industry was a way to not only better their lives but a way to instill certain

The Transcendentalist movement, founded by Ralph Waldo Emerson was populated by his essay
Nature, as well as other works such as Henry David Thoreau s Nature. The increasing quality and
affordability of such books as well as newspapers, with new perspectives and philosophies printed by
new machines, allowed the common people access to new knowledge. Society was now exposed to
knowledge such as: philosophy, current events, and political information which brought up the level of
education of the common man. Not only were books made cheaper and more available, an abundance
of higher quality goods and services such as better foods, clothes, and a better transportation system
now became available to the society. As Horace Greenley of the New York Tribune accounts: We have
universalized all the beautiful and glorious results of industry and skill... We have made them a
common possession of the people.... We have democratized the means and appliances of a higher life
(Art and Industry 58). Greenley is saying that the Progress of the Age has brought high quality goods
previously only for aristocrats down to the common people, raising the living standard of the common
people: a true democratic value. Out of all these technological breakthroughs, the railroad became the
symbol of the Progress of the Age and the expansion of democratic ideals. Even artists of the Hudson

Qualitative Research Process
This chapter presents the process that was undertaken to produce the project. It will discuss the
selections of the participants, the materials that were used, the design utilized and the procedure taken.
This process is important, since it bestows information on how the process underwent and data was
collected.
Participants
The participants that partake in this study are three immigrant single mothers who have, or have had,
an open case with DCFS, and two current social workers that are part of the program Strategies and El
Nido Center, who provide prevention and intervention resources. Due to the fact that the project is a
qualitative project, the sample will be collected using Convenience sampling and snowball sampling.
At the end of the interview, the participants will be rewarded with a gift card.
Materials
The interviews will be collected using a recorder, with consent of the participant. Then the data will be
transcribed narratively, demonstrating important discussion and also ... Show more content on

P.K. Dick’s The Minority Report and Steven Spielberg’s...
P.K. Dick s The Minority Report and Steven Spielberg s The Minority Report
Death can occur in four ways. A person can die from a physical illness, viruses and infections. A
person can die from an accident. A person can commit suicide. Finally a person can be murdered by
another person. What if murders could be prevented? In P.K. Dick s story The Minority Report, and in
Spielberg s film The Minority Report, the future can be altered by using incredible technology. The
success of Spielberg s adaptation of Dick s short story to film can be determined by the way each was
presented.
While giving a tour or precrime to Edward Witwer, the main character John Anderton finds the he is
supposed to kill a person he never met Leopold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Minority Report by Spielberg is about a one man conspiracy to keep pre crime up and running. In
the book by Dick, there is a larger conspiracy to destroy precrime. The final results are opposite as
well; in the book precrime was maintained and still operational. In the movie, precrime was shut down
and destroyed. The methods of precrime are also different. In the book, there are three precogs which
mutter an indecipherable language, which a machine interprets into images of a murder. Then a card
comes out of the machine with the name of the killer and name of the victim on it. Spielberg made a
more modern method out of this. In the movie, images are taken directly from the three precogs brain
and then interpreted by a person who tries to find out the location of the murder. Also there are two
wooden balls made, one with the name of the killer and the other with the name of the victim, on
them. The movie also goes deeper into the creation of precrime, how crack babies whom had an odd
gift/curse of dreaming of murder became used to prevent murder. It also shows why Anderton joined
precrime, to make sure no one else would suffer like he did when he lost his son. The precogs in the
book and movie are very different. First off their names in the book are Donna, Jerry and Mike. In the
movie their names are Agatha, Arthur and Dashiell. The movie also involves the precogs, or at least
one of them, more into the story.

Body Snatchers Allegory
The Invasion of the Body Snatchers, directed by Don Siegel, utilized action and a flashback sequence.
At the beginning of the movie, the audience members see a frantic man in a doctor s office saying that
he is sane and tells his accounts of the body snatchers. The screen goes blurry, which indicates that
there is a flashback/story being told. The flashbacks worked in this film because they helped establish
that the story occurred in the past and it s from the main character s Dr. Miles point of view.
There are many arguments whether Invasion of the Body Snatcher is an allegory to the Communist
Movement. Jeff Saporito from ScreenPrism takes a closer look at the film and how it relates to
communism. He states that there were themes of hysteria

The Dichotomy Here By Jessie Likes And Loves Your Parents
How is it, after all the years of devotion from your family, we now have a daughter in law who
behaves as though she was attending a funeral when we are around? You have said from the beginning
she loves us so much and is fearful of doing or saying anything to cause us to dislike her. Can you
imagine going through any of the above stated with your son or daughter?
The dichotomy here is that Jessie likes and loves your parents, but you say she finds your mother s
gestures of kindness and caring as sometimes insincere, intrusive, etc., and senses your mother wants
more in the relationship than she. In some sense, your wife finds your parents offensive to her

We must have loyalty and allegiance to have the characteristics of a healthy functioning family. The
problems arose when your wife included only you in her issues regarding your parents. You were
triangulated into a third person used to arbitrate or judge. It is never productive for a fully functioning
family. If any two people within a family have issues arise it has to remain between them and not
involve third party arbitration. It should always be in private, one on one, and by getting out of one s
comfort zone, even if it is not in the scope of one s normal behavior. Every family, no doubt, has a
dysfunction, but this has been a colossal misjudgment regarding best laid intentions.
The following quotation aptly describes what you, Dad, and I learned from your grade school
psychologist, when he explained triangulation within our family. At that time, you were using this
dynamic to pit one parent against the other. ( As leaders, we are extremely vulnerable to being
triangulated and it s very unhealthy for the unity of a company. Triangulation involves a cast of three
characters, the villain, the victim and the rescuer. If you are constantly fixing relational problems that
others should fix for themselves you are probably being triangulated ).

normal, characteristic selves. When there is no empathy for one s perception of

Era Of Good Feelings Dbq Analysis
There had been a war between Britain and America, it was known as the War of 1812. This war was
the turning point of America because it had soon led the nation to an Era of Good Feelings. The Era of
Good Feelings is an ironic name because during this time period (1815 1825), it promoted both
sectionalism and nationalism. Although some felt strongly for one way, there were some people who
were in the middle and not exactly which sure they agreed with most. Nationalism is the unification of
a country, and it shows how the country, and how it shouldn t be split up. We are under the most
imperious obligation to counteract every tendency to disunion (doc B). Although the country is split
into states no matter what, they will do whatever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The agriculturists bear the whole brunt of the war and taxation, and remain poor, while the others run
in the rings of pleasure, and fatten upon them (doc A). This shows that even financially there was a
split because the manufacturers in the North were enjoying their life, while those in the South were
struggling because they were the ones helping with the damage that was made from the war. Another
way the nation was split up was through their states and how the population had varied in the states.
Document E shows that although the state had ranges of population, there were are states that
obviously have more than others, meaning the North has way more than the South. Lastly, in
Document I the states had been split in a way they view politics. In 1820, it s evident how they were
unified with voting, but come 1824 the votes had been scattered. The reason being was because of the
different opinions on slavery. The southern region was primarily pro slavery while the north was anti
slavery. Come the time of the voting, Andrew Jackson, a candidate from that the South had wanted to
win, had won. Their vote was honestly on whoever would allow them to keep slaves, which was

Characteristics In O. OBrien s The Things They Carried
In the chapter The Things They Carried , the reader doesn t know who the author is yet and it is the
foundation for the rest of the book. The author describes what each character is like by mentioning
what kind of kinds of items they would carry. Each character carried unique items to show what kind
of person they are. He also mentioned the weight of each item they would carry to show how
emotionally and physically heavy things were. One of the many characters he described was Kiowa,
who carried the Bible. Another character that the author described was Jimmy Cross. He carried the
fake love he wanted Martha to have for him. Jimmy Cross was so consumed in his thoughts about
Martha that he feels that Ted Lavender died because of his fault. After that Ted Lavender s death, he
burned all the things Martha sent him and anything that would remind him of her because he knew he
would have to carry the guilt for Ted Lavender s death. The use of military diction in The Things They
Carried, such as mentioning the weight of each item and the numerous types of guns, shows how he
was still learning and how all those terms will be relevant to the rest of his story. O Brien describes the
characters in a interesting way. He says the characters name, then he lists what they carry in order to
reveal how each of those characters are like. O Brien mentions the weight of each item everyone
carries as well. Depending on who he was describing, the weight of their items would vary. For

CONCLUSION
Since the late 2009, the famous vehicle manufacture Toyota has suffered a severe crisis due to
unintended quality problems in its cars. This had triggered Toyota s largest officially recalls of nearly
9 million vehicles all over the world. This crisis has threatened the company s previous reputation of
building good quality and reliable cars, as well as damaging its brand image built up over time. The
managerial decisions taken by Toyota to deal with the crisis is considered as a key issue to retrieve the
former reputation, and to recover the trust and image held by the customers. This study aims to
elaborate on the Toyota crisis in order to understand why Toyota faces this crisis and how Toyota deals
with the crisis, and investigate Swedish consumers perceptions of Toyota brand as the outcome of the
crisis. The findings indicated that:
(1) Although there were external powers such as mass media that forced Toyota working even harder
on the crisis, it was Toyota itself that asks for most of its own misfortunes when they lost quality focus

Fox Network History
Introduction:
Television has been a huge part of our culture since the early 1950s. Although it was developed early,
because of World War II commercial broadcasting was put on hold until after the war. Since 1950
television has progressed rapidly. In the 60s color television was invented which brought shows to a
whole new level. Primitive forms of cable television existed as early as 1948 but cable did not become
a significant medium until the 80s. Everyone in the country was watching the big four networks which
were CBS, ABC, NBC, and Fox Network. Fox Network came later on but made a big impact (Hanson,
2016, p.222). One of the most popular types of shows on these networks are situational comedies or

Fox was able to attract audiences with shows like The Simpsons and Married with Children and by

seeking. Hits like American Idol and The Simpsons also helped create a wide audience base (Hanson,

third season Arrested Development simply wasn t getting enough viewers to continue on. Arrested

My Favorite Form Of News Satire And Old Greek Comedy
News satire is one of my favorite forms of comedy. News satire basically takes the news, something
that people see every day and is typically serious, and makes it funny. Sometimes it is just completely
fake or just exaggerated news. It could almost be considered incongruous because people do not
expect news to be funny at all, so the fact that it is turned into comedy makes it incongruous to its
regular nature. At the same time, it is also a form of comic relief . It provides people with relief from
the anxiety they might feel when watching or reading the regular news. Watching news satire you are
more likely to laugh than experience feeling of dread, concern, or worry. There can also be examples
of benign violation depending on the material, so that depends on the topic the comedian is talking
about and the way they decide to portray it. The delivery of the news is a big part of why it is so funny
as well. Typically comedians deliver it a deadpan manner. Deadpan means that it delivered in an
expressionless manner. Funny things said without emotion are funnier than things said with a lot ...

Handoff In Cellular Systems Essay
Handoff in Cellular Systems Submitted By: Parveen kumar(15MT ECE008) Priyanka(15MT ECE010)
Garima(15MT ECE003) Abstract The Mobility in wireless cellular communication systems is its
backbone so as to enhance the quality of service and maintain the continuous service. Handoff is an
important task in maintaining the continuity of call in cellular systems and its failure can result in
ongoing call termination. So handoffs are necessary for providing an enhanced QoS (Quality of
Service) to users and provide a ubiquitous coverage. In order to successfully implement the handoff
process, the system designers make a proper optimum signal level at which point handoff will initiate.
During the handoff process some parameters like relative signal strength, relative signal strength with
threshold, relative signal strength with hysteresis and relative signal strength with hysteresis and
threshold are to be considered carefully. So this paper shows the brief description about the different
handoff techniques in cellular systems moreover it compares all the handoff strategies on the basis of
execution time, S/I ratio, RSS (Relative Signal Strength), call handling difficulty, handoff made and
generation

The village stands on the steep, southern slopes of Castle Hill and its name derives from the Celtic

Ecgfrith, King of Northumbria gave Crayke, together with all the land within a three mile radius, to St

Investigating The Stock Price Reaction Of Firstenergy And...
1. Introduction The aim of this study is to investigate the stock price reaction of FirstEnergy and
Allegheny to various merger related announcements. The study will also identify the presence of any
run up abnormal returns prior to the first formal announcement due to potential information leakages,
insider trading or rumours. FirstEnergy is an energy company that formed in 1997, as a result of the
merger between Ohio Edison and Centerior, which serves a large customer base. FirstEnergy and its
subsidiaries provide utility goods and services as a private enterprise and, as a result, form one of the
USA s largest investor owned utility companies. FirstEnergy announced plans to acquire Allegheny
Energy, an electric utility company formed in 1925, in 2010 and the merger, worth $4.7 billion, was
completed the following year. The paper differs from others as it will provide insight and evaluation
into which event during the merger process had the largest effect and identify whether this was the
same for both firms, especially since the merger was undertaken in a tough regulatory environment
which contains many hurdles (). The results of this paper could be attributed to other firms in the
industry or, potentially, to other industries with similar regulatory structures. The structure of this
proposal, which will be consistent with the final paper excluding the empirical findings, proceeds as
follows. Section 2 reviews selected literature based on the focus areas. Section 3

Chopin compares the life of Edna to the dangers and beauty of a seductive ocean. Edna s fascinations with the unknown wonders of the sea help influence the reader to understand the similarities between Edna s life and her relationship with the ocean. Starting with fear and danger of the water then moving to a huge symbolic victory over it, Chopin uses the ocean as a powerful force in Edna s awakening to the agony and complexity of her life. Danger and beauty serve as Edna s first outlook on the ocean. Early in her development, Edna observes the ocean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. (14) Edna s senses are stimulated by all the sounds of the ocean. Along with the call of the sea, Edna becomes more aware of her own self and desires, which lead her to look within herself. As Edna s relationship with the ocean becomes more intimate, she treats the ocean as if it were her lover and true desire. The touch of the sea is sensuous enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace. The `dreaded fear has now converted to a `sensuous outlook. Edna is hungry to experience all the elements of the ocean and, at the same time, she is opening herself to exploring her inner feelings. With her new familiarity with the sea, Edna constructs a divergent perspective of the water and its potent force in her life. The new awareness gives Edna courage to face her fears. Instead of depending on someone to help her in the water, she decides to start swimming by herself. This act represents a major step in Edna s awakening to independence. One day, Edna becomes possessed with a power that she all of a sudden realizes she has inside her. A feeling of exultation overtook her, as if some power of significant import had been given her soul. She grew daring and reckless, overestimating her strength. • 3. An Analysis Of Everyday Ambassador, By Kate Otto First and foremost, the novel Everyday Ambassador, by Kate Otto, opens the eyes of many, and makes people realise that there are four simple values they can add into their everyday lives to make a difference. By adding these values into your life you could make a difference for not only yourself but for your neighbors, community, and maybe even the world. An everyday ambassador has to have focus, empathy, humility, and patience. By realizing you want to make a change you are already on the journey to becoming an everyday ambassador. Humility is knowing we are important and equal to everybody else around us no matter what age, skin color, or religion they have. We should not have to wake up everyday and get likes on social media to feel important. We shouldn t compare our lives to others and put people down because they are different than us. Having humility allows you to realize that it is okay to not be an expert at everything and know that sometimes you can t contribute as much as others. But knowing that, allows you to find aspects of your life where you can help and make a difference. You should be putting yourself into situations where you can help change the world even if it is one small step at a time. By doing this you can become an everyday ambassador. Lastly, the fourth and final value you need to have to become an everyday ambassador is patience. Patience is the ability to overcome annoyance when confronted with some kind of delay of results. This has become a very distinct problem with people as we have every answer we could ever want at our fingertips. By having patience in your life and letting yourself know that results could take a while puts you on the path to becoming an everyday ambassador. You need to know, especially if you want to help change people s lives or change the world, that seeing results could take a very long time. However, if you do have the patience ... Cilia Essay Cilia; An Essential Motility Centre Whose Defects Are Implicated in Many Diseases In the summer of 1674, the Dutch scientist Antoni van Leeuwenhoek looked through a homemade microscope at a sample of rain water and revolutionized the human view of the world. What he found was little legs that we now know are the cilia that many single celled protozoa use for locomotion. Almost exactly 300 years later, the observations of Swedish scientists Afzelius led to another paradigm shift, when he linked defects in the machinery required for the movement of human cilia to Kartagener s syndrome (KS), a disease characterized by chronic sinus and respiratory infections; male infertility; and, incredibly, the misplacement of the heart and other organs (Brown Whitman 2014). He too came up with the hypothesis that the existence of so called sensory hairs protruding from the cell surface into the extracellular space was to explain the poor sense of smell and decreased hearing ability in patients with KS (Pennekamp et al. Gender is either the male or female division of a species, especially as differentiated by social and cultural roles and behavior. However, gender plays a big role in culture all around the world. Go Back explores the journey of six Australians as they are exposed to the reality of refugees, thus challenging their assumptions. Neighbours similarly is a story of newcomers to an ethnic neighbourhood as their cultural discoveries led the newcomers to accepting their neighbours. When a discovery has an immense impact on a person, views may be challenged as the individual gains a new outlook. Go Back begins with indirect interviews of the participants, thus allowing the audience to gain an insight into their perspectives regarding refugees. Raye s views are ones of hostility, as seen when she says, When the boat crashed coming into Christmas Island I thought serves you bastards right . The use of colloquial language demonstrates the rawness of her views and lack of hesitation to express such powerful and aggressive opinions. However, these assumptions are soon challenged when the ladies visit refugee Maisara and hear her story. For Raye, Maisaras story of losing her child impacted Raye s assumption immensely due to similar traumatic experiences. I ve had problems carrying pregnancies through ... I do know where she s coming from. This discovery of common humanity is emphasised through the close up shot of Raye s face which exposes her crying. Such raw emotion thus demonstrates the impact of this discovery on Raye s assumptions towards refugees. This impact is further seen in the final interview of the series, where Raye expresses her newfound views regarding refugees. I then started to see more and get a broader view of what was happening to these people, followed by, It breaks my heart to watch it . Such heart felt statements is in stark contrast to her initial interview as her self reflection shows how her discovery of the realty of refugees modified her views. Thus, Go Back , by exposing Raye s transition following her discovery of common humanity, demonstrates that discoveries can challenge a persons views. Different persons will be affected differently by discoveries, as will to accept and change is a factor that plays a large role in the changing of assumptions. Raquel ... A person can die from a physical illness, viruses and infections. A person can die from an accident. A person can commit suicide. Finally a person can be murdered by another person. What if murders could be prevented? In P.K. Dick s story The Minority Report, and in Spielberg s film The Minority Report, the future can be altered by using incredible technology. The success of Spielberg s adaptation of Dick s short story to film can be determined by the way each was presented. The Minority Report by Spielberg is about a one man conspiracy to keep pre crime up and running. In the book by Dick, there is a larger conspiracy to destroy precrime. The final results are opposite as well; in the book precrime was maintained and still operational. In the movie, precrime was shut down and destroyed. The methods of precrime are also different. In the book, there are three precogs which mutter an indecipherable language, which a machine interprets into images of a murder. Then a card comes out of the machine with the name of the killer and name of the victim on it. Spielberg made a more modern method out of this. In the movie, images are taken directly from the three precogs brain and then interpreted by a person who tries to find out the location of the murder. Also there are two wooden balls made, one with the name of the killer and the other with the name of the victim, on them. The movie also goes deeper into the creation of precrime, how crack babies whom had an odd gift/curse of dreaming of murder became used to prevent murder. It also shows why Anderton joined precrime, to make sure no one else would suffer like he did when he lost his son. The precogs in the book and movie are very different. First off their names in the book are Donna, Jerry and Mike. In the movie their names are Agatha, Arthur and Dashiell. At the beginning of the movie, the audience members see a frantic man in a doctor s office saying that he is sane and tells his accounts of the body snatchers. The screen goes blurry, which indicates that there is a flashback/story being told. The flashbacks worked in this film because they helped establish that the story occurred in the past and it s from the main character s Dr. Miles point of view. The Dichotomy Here By Jessie Likes And Loves Your Parents How is it, after all the years of devotion from your family, we now have a daughter in law who behaves as though she was attending a funeral when we are around? It should always be in private, one on one, and by getting out of one s comfort zone, even if it is not in the scope of one s normal behavior. Every family, no doubt, has a dysfunction, but this has been a colossal misjudgment regarding best laid intentions. The following quotation aptly describes what you, Dad, and I learned from your grade school psychologist, when he explained triangulation within our family. At that time, you were using this dynamic to pit one parent against the other. ( As leaders, we are extremely vulnerable to being triangulated and it s very unhealthy for the unity of a company. Triangulation involves a cast of three characters, the villain, the victim and the rescuer. This war was the turning point of America because it had soon led the nation to an Era of Good Feelings. The Era of Good Feelings is an ironic name because during this time period (1815 1825), it promoted both sectionalism and nationalism. Although some felt strongly for one way, there were some people who were in the middle and not exactly which sure they agreed with most. • 35. My Favorite Form Of News Satire And Old Greek Comedy News satire is one of my favorite forms of comedy. News satire basically takes the news, something that people see every day and is typically serious, and makes it funny. Sometimes it is just completely fake or just exaggerated news. It could almost be considered incongruous because people do not expect news to be funny at all, so the fact that it is turned into comedy makes it incongruous to its regular nature. At the same time, it is also a form of comic relief . It provides people with relief from the anxiety they might feel when watching or reading the regular news. Watching news satire you are more likely to laugh than experience feeling of dread, concern, or worry. There can also be examples of benign violation depending on the material, so that depends on the topic the comedian is talking about and the way they decide to portray it. Handoff In Cellular Systems Essay Handoff in Cellular Systems Submitted By: Parveen kumar(15MT ECE008) Priyanka(15MT ECE010) Garima(15MT ECE003) Abstract The Mobility in wireless cellular communication systems is its backbone so as to enhance the quality of service and maintain the continuous service. Handoff is an important task in maintaining the continuity of call in cellular systems and its failure can result in ongoing call termination. So handoffs are necessary for providing an enhanced QoS (Quality of Service) to users and provide a ubiquitous coverage. In order to successfully implement the handoff process, the system designers make a proper optimum signal level at which point handoff will initiate. During the handoff process some parameters like relative signal strength, relative signal strength with threshold, relative signal strength with hysteresis and relative signal strength with hysteresis and threshold are to be considered carefully. So this paper shows the brief description about the different handoff techniques in cellular systems moreover it compares all the handoff strategies on the basis of execution time, S/I ratio, RSS (Relative Signal Strength), call handling difficulty, handoff made and generation ...
