Assignment 1 Types of Businesses
Task P1 The BBC is the largest broadcasting organisation in the world. Its mission statement is to
enrich people lives with programs that inform, educate and entertain. The BBC has the second largest
budget of any UK broadcaster with an operating expenditure of £4.23 billion in 2009/2010. The only
UK broadcaster with a larger operating expenditure is British Sky Broadcasting with £5.9 billion
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC#Finance). The reason that Sky s operating expenditure is higher is
because Sky is a private sector PLC, which means that the public can buy shares in a company. Selling
shares means more capital income is invested in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Human And Imaginative Aspects Of Cyber Threats
Intro In an age of rapidly growing informational data and highly talented black hat hackers,
technological headways present the critical duality of major opportunity and critical risk. A
universities high value sensitive data is indispensable to both, and a key asset that differentiates
organizations. While it is impractical to keep it locked down and yet open, its utilization can
undermine the organization s existence. Subsequently, the challenge for IT team security personnel
and college executives is striking a delicate posture being security aware and remaining business
driven. The human and imaginative aspects of cyber threats changed dramatically in the previous
years. Witnessing innovative techniques blended with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identification is the first of the four steps in this process. Any user that expects to gain access to a
system referred to as a supplicant, and the tool that every user who gains entry to the network, referred
to as an Identifier. The identifier can have numerous different methods for identifying the supplicant.
The identifier should be able to locate the users credentials from a database of unique information that
determines the supplicants identity. The most common form of verification is through using the
employees first and last name. In case there happen to be colleagues with common names, such as
John Doe, employee Id s or Social Security numbers remain utilized. In a good number of companies,
they are no longer using the employee s Social Security number to identify them in their system. They
are replacing them with an employee ID. This reduces the information that a network intruder (also
known as a hacker) or another employee gaining access to their Social Security numbers.
Authentication is the second step in this process. Once identification of the employee is established,
there will be a request for input from that user. That will either corroborate to the system that he or she
is who they claim to be or that they are not who they claim to be.
The complexity of the authentication process depends on the type of information that needs

Reflection On Anthem By Ayn Rand
While reading this book I was deeply concerned with the totalitarian government they had in place. It
reminded me a lot of the book Anthem by Ayn Rand where they also lived in a very oppressive
government but to the point that they were not allowed to say the word I and they were all given their
job in society. Throughout the whole novel, I questioned how Mae was okay with working for The
Circle. I would never be okay with wearing anything that made me fully transparent to anyone and let
them see what I was doing at all times. I would not really care if there were SeeChange cameras up
around Auburn because I think they could maybe make campus even safer. We already have traffic
cameras in place that you can view on the internet whenever you

The Shoemaker s Holiday
The play The Shoemakers Holiday by Thomas Dekker Shoemaker is a hilarious and happy comedy.
The theme of the play is basically that nothing in life goes by plan and that is what makes life so
funny. If the reader could not tell by the title, the play has a little something to do with shoes; more
specifically someone who makes shoes. A shoemaker and cobbler can be interchangeable terms for
someone who makes or fixes shoes. In the play, there is someone who is disguised as a shoemaker
who comes into some pretty bad luck due to a military draft. The play does not only just deal with
shoes; it also deals with different class statuses. The play The Shoemaker s Holiday takes place when
there is a battle going on in France. One of the main characters, Rowland Lacy, falls in love with a girl
in the middle class named Rose Oatley. Rose s father does not approve of Rowland because of how
Rowland spends money and is very wasteful with his money, so in order to be able to get Lacy s father
s blessing, Rowland has to join the Army to be drafted for the war in France. To avoid going to war, he
persuades someone else to take his place and disguises himself as a ... Show more content on

They use the same terms when they are trying to get their point across and when they are
communicating with their customers. In a scholarly source titled Julius Caesar and The Shoemaker s
Holiday written by Norman Nathan, the critic argues that the cobbler in Julius Caesar borrowed some
of the language from the cobbler in The Shoemaker s Holiday. He says: The Cobbler is using withal in
one of its normal meanings, nonetheless . And the line is probably a reference to Simon Eyre in
Dekker s The Shoemaker s Holiday. Simon Eyre, in a rival playhouse, was meddling with tradesmen s
matters and with women s matters. Shakespeare s Cobbler was not, but withal he was indeed a

The Last Samurai Cultural Context
The cultural context of the film The Last Samurai affects the characters values, attitudes and beliefs,
as the character Nathan Algren is shaped by the American cultural context of the film. His values and
attitudes concerning beheading and his attitude towards his involvement in American Indian wars are
explored in the film. The American cultural context of the film has shaped Algren s values about
beheading. Algren does not understand why the samurai believed in the beheading of a disgraced
person as Katsumoto beheaded General Hasegawa in seppuku. Algren is shown to be appalled by this
as he said to Katsumoto They don t cut the heads off defeated kneeling men when discussing the

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
2/21/2015
Providing a place of employment has lead to numerous benefits for employers and employees. When
having a diversity of people working for a company, different types of personalities intermingle with
each other on a day to day basis. Even though having a diverse group of people coexist in the
workforce can serve a huge benefit to the company, it can also lead to problems amongst coworkers.
In order to make sure everyone is treated fairly, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
(EEOC) was created to enforce federal regulations for equality in the workforce (smallbusiness). The
EEOC pursues complaints about hiring or firing based off of certain factors such as, race, religion,
age, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to, the supervisor may have not been fully aware of what is and what is not appropriate in
the workforce. To avoid all of this confusion, during the on boarding process, all new employees
should sit in on either a lecture or video informing them what is and what is not sexual harassment and
how to handle the situation. A recommendation for the owner with regards to preparing a response to
the EEOC is to inform them that mediation will be taken place first. To prevent any court fees and
legal fees see if the situation can be resolved verbally as well educating all employees on their rights.
Even if the employee is an immigrant with a work visa, the law protecting US citizens still applies to
them.

The Life of Galileo
The Battle For Truth
Throughout the course of history, from era to era, mankind has been on a continuous attempt to
perpetuate what they perceive as the truth; and in doing so, embark on a quest to find their true
identity and place in life. One must realize that the common theme in all literature is the search for
identity and belonging. Bertolt Brecht, author of The Life of Galileo, effectively uses the developing
character Galileo Galilei to portray a strong message; a message which five hundred years after the
fact has still not been completely comprehended. Through Galileo s continuous battle with the Church
in prevailing his work, Brecht is telling the readers that in any one man s attempt to propagate the
truth, whether it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

image of God,.... (Brecht 40) LITTLE MONK: ...You ve won. GALILEO: It has won! Not me, reason
has won! (Brecht 40)
After the Old Cardinal implicitly tells Galileo that his research and teachings symbolize atheism, he is
approached by Clavius whom tells Galileo that he is right and that he is invited to Rome to show his
research. It is interesting to see Galileo s response in crediting reason for his achievement. It is here
where the reader sees Galileo s thoughts and perceptions on life; that science and its achievements
should not only be credited to the founder yet the society that encourages these findings; that the
progress of human kind as a whole should be the objective of inventions. Using Galileo, Brecht
continuously stresses these points throughout the play and is making it clear that he is against the
notion of the discouragement of ideas, inventions, and thinking. Although external forces such as the
church and other characters do not influence Galileo s personal belief, there are also internal forces,
such as the battle against self, that also influence Galileo s perception on both his work and human
kind. It is through his experiences with Andrea, the young protégé of Galileo, that we see the character
of Galileo at the beginning of the play. In

Jean Honoré Fragonard s The Stolen Kiss
Jean Honoré Fragonard (1732 1806), was one of the most creative artists of his time, producing more
than 550 works during his life. Fragonard was a product of the later stages of the Rococo era, a time
characterized by hedonistic freedom and a pursuit of all things aesthetically pleasing. The Rococo era
originated from the French decorative style Racaille meaning decorative shell and rock work (Artble).
Frivolous, colorful and gay, the works of Jean Honoré Fragonard float into a spectator s sensory
consciousness like pastel confections straight from a Parisian bakery on a spring day (Artble). Having
taken on the role of one of the highest ranking leaders of the Rococo movement, Fragonard s style of
painting demonstrates all that was exalted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This oil on canvas captures the figures ravenous inclination, as their mouths open to full capacity as if

The same odd dichotomy of passion and gentleness as found in the ocean beyond. One can almost
imagine the bodies rising and falling to the rhythm of the waves lapping the shoreline. Both figures
are in ecstasy. The female figure closes her eyes and beckons the pleasure, while the man s eyes
remain open with concentrated intent (Poeticalbeauty). The lovers form is sculptural, like stone worn

other, but also with the natural elements of the surrounding environment. They exist shaped together
in an erotic affair of curved limbs, the chests forming an evidently human climax to the eloquent
shape. Their frames glow golden in the light of day, while a small beach hut adds an almost whimsical

SDC Platinum Database is used as an initial data source for searching alliances. I searched the
alliances specifically in the period of 2011 2015. However, as Schilling (2008) agrees, some data on
SDC are not reported and not relevant. Therefore, when the agreements of alliances are not confirmed
on SDC database, I conducted the MDT s press release and annual report on the website to check the
present states of the alliances. In addition, MDT and alliance partners websites were reviewed for the
company information. Furthermore, theoretical analysis is conducted based on the book Network
advantage written by Greve, Rowley and Shipilov, and 10 academic literatures that are selected by the
course coordinator.
First degree perspective: Medtronic s alliances and other networks
Based on SDC database, MDT s press release and annual report, MDT has made 8 acquisitions, 1 joint
venture and 7 strategic alliances in the last 5 years. As Greve, Rowley and Shipilov (2014) suggests, I
will use three different perspectives of network advantages as a basis of further analysis. First degree
perspective (Greve, Rowley and Shipilov, 2014) focus on the individual relationship which brings two
types of advantages namely compatibility and complementarity.

Canada Economy Vs Mixed Economy Analysis
An economy is the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services; the way an
economy is organized is called an economic system. There are three types of economic systems:
planned, market, and mixed. A planned economy is an economic system where the government
decides what should be produced, how much it should cost, and how much people should be paid. A
market economy is a type of economic system where there is competition and prices are set by supply
and demand. There is little government involvement. A mixed economic system is a mix of these two.
Canada is more of a planned economic system, leaning towards mixed, and the United States of
America (USA) is a market/mixed economic system. Many people believe that the economies of the
two countries should stay separate, but Canada and the USA would greatly benefit by banding
together and forming a market economy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The partnership between them would be stronger as well. Trade and other relations between the
countries would be reinforced, and there would be more trust. Having a common economic system
would help make things simpler. There would be less confusion about how the two countries are
operated. Since both countries depend on each other already, this would make it easier for all
agreements between them. A market system would work well for a common system between Canada
and the USA because it encourages employees to work harder so they can be a contributing member of
society. A market economy has competition, and that is part of why it succeeds. In a planned economy,
people can easily cheat the system by working the bare minimum and still getting paid, whereas in a
market economy the competition drives workers to do their best. The competition allows people to
thrive and move up the system, which is just what the two countries

Ethical Border For Research Essay
In the spirit of Emory s tradition of courageous inquiry, what question do you want to help answer and
why? (500 word limit)
Where is the Ethical Border for Research? We have been curious since the beginning. How does this
work? How can I improve the gene pool? Why does this disease only affect certain people? What is
the cure? These questions led to research to improve humankind as well as the large question looming
over research. When is enough? Where must be stop? It began over 4000 years ago. The idea of a
perfect being led people to change themselves through piercings, tattoos, and binding among other
changes. Alteration varied by culture: foot binding in China, lip plugs in Ethiopia, and tooth shaping in
Indonesia. However, they all had the same goal: to achieve be perfect . In the 20th century,

In 1990, gene therapy allowed for a girl to no longer have a weakened immune system through
manipulated cells. The new gene replaced the mutated gene, allowing her to produce ADA and
therefore boost her immune system. In the past 25 years, over 2000 new therapies have been approved
to cure leukemia and rare disorders. In the future, we may even be able to cure HIV. However, is this
gene manipulation ethical? From a scientist s view, genetic engineering may eliminate disorders and
some diseases. It would prevent life impairing disorders such as Trisomy 13 and Huntington s, and it
would cure certain cancers. But, from a social view, is it moral to change someone s DNA? Will gene
manipulation allow the rich to build a child with the ideal characteristics and widen the class gap?
Other questions also arise. How are we to support the growing population with our limited food
supply? Will everyone eventually become the perfect being and become identical, resulting in no
variation? And with this lack of variation, could a single disease wipe out

a leader has; a leader always thinks situations out before doing anything stupid and they give orders to
their allies. On the top paragraph on 378 the cyclops killed the people from try and made him his

Don Pio Pico
Don Pio Pico, a renowned figure of early Mexican/American culture, was known for his exquisite
fashion sense, intelligence and leadership, whose family experience with early California authority

symbol of his leadership, as he moves from a man of wealth and taste to an inspirational political

Nonetheless, I found the Pico mansion to be quaint, surrounded by growing grapes and many other
native plants, like rosemary, agave, and lavender, along with pillars and skilled crafted objects by the

Candles And Religious Beliefs
Candles are a popular gift item in department stores today, consumers purchase them in large part for
their scent and appearance. Historically, candles have been used for light, for providing heat, for
keeping time and for religious ceremonies and celebrations. We seldom use them for lighting today
unless it s for ambiance and I doubt anyone would still know how to tell time with a candle. Candles
are still a symbolic feature at ceremonies such as baptisms, weddings and even birthday parties and
they are still a prominent feature in religious ceremonies and holidays. In The History of Candles from
Prehistoric Times until Now Mary Deane states that the earliest form of candles started were actually
torches that were used to transport fire. Based on evidence found in 2008 at the Gesher Benot Ya aqov
site in northern Israel (Dean) that places the first candles around 790,000 years old. From Biblical
times through the Industrial Revolution candles have been used for both necessity and novelty.
Early candles are not representative of the container or caper candles purchased in store today. Ancient
Egyptians used rushlights, a primitive candle form made without a wick. Between AD 40 79, Roman
historian Pliny described the making of rushlights as a rush dip . These cup shaped objects were most
likely made from rocks that had deeper depressions in them and were prepared by dipping tall grasses
or rushes in melted tallow, a fat rendered from meat. Pliny said these dips were

The Influence Of Water Quality In Milwaukee
Any measure of a successful society low mortality, economic diversity, productivity, and public safety
is in some way related to access to safe water. Every day, safe water is available for eating and

water is at just about every turn of a facet, we don t always think about how fortunate we are to have
amazing access to water. Subsequently, we are much less likely to think about what s in our water. The

each part of the Afro Eurasian landmass to form one large interconnected system of commerce. These

During the reign of the Roman Empire, the trade networks that connected Africa, Europe, and Asia
flourished, however, after the fall of the Romans these trade routes saw a period of decline. This
period of decline, especially on the Silk Road, was due mainly to the fact that there was no longer a
regulatory body, such as the Roman Empire, to create a safe environment for merchants. However, in
the 600 when the Muslim religion began to form and grow, their empire was able to provide some
stability for the trade routes in Africa and Europe, as well as the most western parts of the Silk Road.
The Muslim tradition of the Hajj, a trip that fulfills one of the five pillars of Islam, was able to
increase trade in Saudi Arabia especially. Stability, and thus an increase in importance, was not truly
achieved for the Silk Road until 1200 when the Mongols were able to conquer most of Asia. The
Mongols were strong believers in the merchant system that worked along the Silk Road, therefore they
put in place strict safeguards for the merchants on that route. By the year 1200 most areas of the Afro

A Definition Of Justice By Aristotle And The Star Spangled...
American society has kept white rich men in the nation superior, while keeping Black people and
other minorities such as women in the lower realms of the society. When the Declaration of
Independence, Constitution of the United States, and The Star Spangled Banner were written they
were not meant to include black people (African descendants). At that time black people were
considered to be a percent of a person, actually chattel, property to white slave owners. In addition,
women were not considered to have the same rights leaving them in an unequal state to their
husbands, fathers, and brothers. The American society has gained their independence by creating
justice for themselves while producing inequalities for others; some affected by justice were people
with different ideas than government, slaves, women and free African Americans.
Aristotle s A Definition of Justice describes the differences of the state with an oligarchy and
democracy as government. In both systems of government, Aristotle states men have a misconception
of justice. Justice is thought by them to be, and is, equality, not, however, for all, but only for equals.
And inequality is thought to be, and is, justice; neither is this for all, but only for inequals. (Aristotle)
Examples to confirm Aristotle s definition are the position that blacks, slaves and women held in past
oligarchy and democracy states. In Aristotle s time (300 s B.C.) until the late 1800 s slavery was a
customary practice,

Challenges Facing Emerging Infectious Diseases
Introduction
Today, humankind is faced with various obstacles and challenges requiring global responses and
solutions to the spread of emerging infectious diseases (EIDs). EIDs can be defined as infections that
are newly emerging or have existed previously in a particular region and then reemerged at a rapidly
increasing incidence rate (Calistri et al., 2013). Many of the emerging infectious diseases today,
including those caused by transboundary diseases and bioterrorist agents, are zoonotic diseases, which
are diseases that are transmissible from both wild and domestic animals to humans (Kahn, 2006). The

collaborations and infrastructures in all aspects of health care among humans, animals (both domestic

becoming increasingly interconnected as a result of factors such as increased worldwide trade and
cultural exchange. Over the past several years there has been a plethora of multifactorial global
revolutions, including: rapid population growth, changes in nutritional, agricultural and trade
practices, increasing international trade and travel, ecotourism and global warming (Coker et al.,

Discussion Of Suicide In Shakespeare s Hamlet-To Be Or Not...
To be or not to be, that is the question that brit lit students all over the world are asked to analyze. In
Hamlet by William Shakespeare, there is a timeless soliloquy in Act III scene I where Hamlet is
contemplating if suicide is valid. It is very important to the show overall because it is the reader s job
to decide if Hamlet is being devious or if he really has gone crazy. Since this soliloquy is so popular
there have been many interpretations done of it, and Ethan Hawke s in particular stands out to me. The
very famous to be or not to be speech asks if suicide is okay, lets the reader decide if Hamlet is crazy
or not, and there have been many interpretations of it over the years.
In his classic monologue, Hamlet questions the validity of suicide. The main question he asks is, is it
better to face the problems life throws your way or to just put an end to all of it? He compares death to
an endless sleep, but since no one knows what the sleep bring, committing suicide could be considered
noble. Some see suicide as cowardly, but Hamlet challenges that saying it can be considered brave to
do so since no one knows what the sleep will bring. Those who commit suicide are considered to be
brave pioneers by Hamlet because they have enough strength and self respect to ... Show more content

Disney s The Lion King Essay
The Lion King
Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance. As king, you need to understand that balance,
and respect all the creatures from the crawling ant to the leaping antelope, said Mufasa, a supporting
character in the film depiction of Walt Disney s: The Lion King (1994). The Lion King is a timeless
archetypal work that time after time has given youth hope and has shown them that courage is not
always innate, but can be learned from just living life with a little hakuna matata . The Lion King,

Simba takes his rightful place on pride rock on his road back home. Simba is resurrected he is
accepted back into the Pride and he returns with the Elixir and the pride lands are returned to normal.
Simba went through the journey from start to finish in what that viewer saw as continual growth and
development of courage.
The film s use of surrealism is masterfully placed in a way that is interesting to the average viewer.
The most notable area in the film is when Simba is thinking about should he leave to go to the pride
lands and his father s image appears in the stars. He receives guidance from beyond. The reason why it
was such a compelling scene was because Mufasa s reappearance validated to the audience that Simba
was never alone. He was being watched over by his father in a type of mystical protection. Rafiki, a
type of witch doctor, is the most surreal character in the entire film. He knows things before they are
said and he give Simba and support that he needs as king. If Rafiki would have never made Mufasa s
image reappear in the sky, Simba would have never returned to go back to the Pride Lands with out
him seeing his father again. Rafiki tells Simba that there was a very peculiar weather and that he too
saw the spirit of Mufasa and that he was not only seeing him in his mind.
Iconic symbolism is used through out the movie. As the movie begins, The Circle of Life plays with
the setting sun. The setting sun is an interpretation that life a never ending

The Pros And Cons Of Restraint
Restraints limit a patient s movement. This brings up many ethical debates and issues. There are
certain guidelines that should be followed when it comes to using restraints. It is important to know
the different kinds of restraints, how to apply a physical restraint properly and how to administer a
chemical restraint safely. It is important to consider alternatives as the use of restraints can present risk
and negative outcomes.
History of Restraints Restraints were incorporated into health care many decades ago. In the late
1970s, more than 25% of U.S residents in long term care facilities were restrained compared to a
current average of 5% (Taylor, Lillis, Lynn, 2015, p. 707). Since 1987, the federal government and
accrediting agencies have worked to reduce or eliminate the use of restraints (Taylor et al. 2015, p.
708). Also according to Taylor, Lillis, and Lynn (2015) a Safety Alert from the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) in 1995 informed nurses and other members of the health care team the risks of
using side rails, especially when all four side rails are up.
Different Types of Restraints There are three categories of restraints. The three categories are physical,
chemical, and seclusion. According to Springer (2015), a physical restraint is a device that keeps the
patient from moving freely or from the patient harming themselves or other people nearby. Chemical
restraints are drugs that are administered that do the same thing a physical restraint does.

The Negative and Positive Benefits of Fluoride
The ingestion of fluoride has been associated to benefits for the teeth. According to some observers in
the past, fluoride strengthens the enamel of the teeth making it not so susceptible to cavities. From this
hypothesis the fluoridation of water had its start and until today it is believed to be one of the most
responsible sources for reducing cavities in the population (Graham Morin, 1999). In some author s
view the fluoridation of the water implies a significant change and the positive effects can been seen
in the so called post fluoride generation. In this generation the number of adults without any teeth has
dramatically declined and similar improvements can be observed in the periodontal health − related to
gums and supporting structures of teeth − (Milgrom Reisine, 2000). However the lack of consideration
of fluoride s potential to be harmful to human s health is questionable and studies have pointed out the
dark side of this compound (Bryson, 2006). A study conducted in the cities of Newburgh and
Kingston, in New York have shown that the prevalence of cavities in the population is similar or even
less in communities that doesn t have artificial fluoridated water compared to the ones that have
fluoride add to the water. This study conducted forty years ago is one considerable evidence that
fluoridating the water isn t strongly necessary nowadays to prevent tooth decay, considering that the
access to fluoridated products, such as toothpaste, mouthwash and

Ancient Chinese Ink Techniques In The 21st Century
Ancient Chinese Ink Techniques in the 21st Century.
As the paint brush dips into the paint and watching the brush the brush form perfect lines, knowing
that the art that is being created is what one is expressing. Art and design has been influencing our
lives since the dawn of the ages. Art has been created on cave walls, has been formed in architecture,
and continues to grow and expand. Art is very beautiful, but also is a matter of expression. Art can
mean many things such as love, concern, anger, desire, and politics. Two Chinese born ink artists by
the name of Zhang Daqain, and Hua Tunan have become well known traditional Chinese ink artists.
More known for his landscape designs, Zhang Daqain has incorporated splashes and pops of color in
these traditional looking drawings. Through the decades, other artists have learned traditional ink
drawings but have also developed other artistic ways to express who they are. For example, one artist,
Hua Tunan, is a young artist who has experimented with graffiti and in his favor, was a success. Both
artists are advocates for nature being their primary subjects. From mountainous ranges to flowers, to
detailed portraits of animals, these paintings bring awareness to people about the beauty on our planet.

Young Men During World War I in the Novel, All Quiet on...
In the novel All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Remarque discusses themes including patriotism,
honor, bravery, and war. He explains how each topic relates to the lives of nineteen year old young
men during the first World War. In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Remarque either
supports or rejects these topics by illustrating them in the soldier s daily lives. Each of the characters
confronts the four main themes throughout their wartime experience. Remarque feels that these men
should not have to show bravery in war, however, bravery is possibly the most important of the major
themes in the novel. During the story, each of the characters have a moment in which bravery was a
large key factor that helped them survive the war. Although Remarque believes that bravery in war is
not necessary for the young men, he does believe that standing up to people who have ruled over you
with cruel power is a necessary act of bravery. In the book it says, We seized the bed cover, made a
quick leap, threw it over his head from behind and pulled it round him so that he stood there in a white
sack unable to raise his arms. The singing stopped. The next moment Haie Westhus was there, and
spreading his arms he shoved us back in order to be first in. He put himself in position with evident

The By Daniel Quinn s Ishmael, And Plato s Allegory Of...
Captivity is a subject that has been discussed thoroughly by many people. Captivity is the main
concept touched in Daniel Quinn s novel, Ishmael, and Plato s Allegory of the Cave. Plato makes the
compelling argument that people are captives of the world of ignorance. Ishmael complements Plato s
allegory by agreeing that there are two groups of people, that it would be difficult to distinguish the
truth, and that people are being deceived. Plato and Ishmael were both able to indicate that there are
two groups of people. In his allegory, Plato had described a cave with human beings living in it, they
cannot move, and can only see before them..between the fire and the prisoners there is a raised way..
(DiYanni 406). He said that these people were prisoners who were left to believe that the shadows
casted before them were the real truth. But the second group was people out of the cave. Similarly,
Ishmael described that there were groups of people in the cave and out of it. The world of the Takers is
one vast prison, and except for a handful of Leavers scattered across the world.. (Quinn 251). Ishmael
has defined these two groups as Takers and Leavers. The Takers being those who are chained in the
cave believing the world was made for their conquering shadow. To further explain the difference
between people in the cave and people out of it, Quinn uses modern culture. You call yourselves

China s Significance Of The United States
Assessing China as a whole could become a rigorous challenge, but for the purpose of this paper,
certain areas will be analyzed. The First topic of interest is China s significance to the United States
(U.S.), most notably, China s economic influence and partnership with the United States. When
mentioning China s significance, China s vast standing army of 2.3 million, with millions more
available for service must receive attention. The next portion of this look into China will involve a
synopsis of threats to and from China and the threats justification with possible immediate and future
implications. Economic partnership involving the U.S. and China is an extensive one. U.S. China
economic ties have expanded substantially over the past three decades. Total U.S. China trade rose
from $2 billion in 1979 to $562 billion in 2013. China is currently the United State s second largest
trading partner, its third largest export market, and its biggest source of imports. China is involved in
almost all aspects of U.S. trade. China keeps U.S. interest rates low because of the large amount of
debt it holds and consolidates, which reaches into the trillions, rending the U.S. obligated to China.
China s ability to mass produce with quantity, at a low cost to the American consumer and the rest of

Evolution And Contributions Of The Indo-Aryan Family
2.2.3 The Indo Aryan Influence
Following the Dravidians, came in the band of invaders who called themselves Arya(Sinclair, 1884). It
was during the 2nd millennium B.C. that these invaders made their way into India via north western
borders of India (Emeneau, 1980)(Zograf, 1982). It is this language family that hold the highest
position in the linguistic landscape of India. The Indo Aryan family is a branch out of the Indo
European language family which made its way into the Indian soil (Zograf, 1982). The Aryan impact
of the Aryan heritage can be seen substantially in the current Indian culture is a result of its invasion
which had lasted for about 100 years (Zograf, 1982). It is during this phase of invasions that the Aryan
family had brought into India not a single but rather a collection of related and different languages and
dialect (Zograf, 1982). The beginning of the Aryan influence had started with the language India
considers to be the language of their Hindu religion and that is the Vedic language (Zograf, 1982). The
earliest form of Indian texts in which the religious poetries were written in was known as the Vedas
(Zograf, 1982). Slowly came in the next phase of literary development and came in the language
which is considered to be the root of all the Indo Aryan languages, Sanskrit (Zograf, 1982). Sanskrit
covered the whole of the Indo Aryan linguistic domain (Zograf, 1982). Then as the middle of the 1st

Vostok Ice core report
Vostok Lab Report
Title: Global warming, a natural interglacial change on temperature.
Abstract:
Global warming has been widely discussed all around the world as it is an issue that affects the living
of all mankind in the world. It is argued that the anthropogenic changes posse more influence on the
climate change to the Earth, compared to the naturally driven glacial and interglacial changes in
temperature. This report is based on the Vostok Core by faculty at Columbia University as an example
for us to investigate global climate change. Author of this report believes global warming is just part
of the long term temperature fluctuation during the interglacial period as there is no convincing and
valid evidence that shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CO2, dust and CH4 are the main source of greenhouses gases, which are produced mainly by human
activities. If that is the case, the composition of CO2, dust and CH4 should be coherent to the change
of temperature of the Earth. Yet, it is not shown from the data.
Moreover, there are lots of different factors that keep affecting the temperature of the Earth. The
energy of the sun, the albedo effect, Milakovitch Cycles, plate tectonics are the examples of the
factors that affect the temperature.
Conclusion
To conclude, based the given data, it is difficult to prove that anthropogentic changes are stronger than
the glacial and interglacial changes in temperature, as there are not enough valid evidence from the
lab. Studying climate change is not a short term issue. However, due to the limited technology level
and the knowledge of the Earth, we could not obtain concise data to investigate the climate change.
The ice core could be one of the proxies that help us to understand the climatic condition in the past. It
is suggested to compare more other proxies, in order to draw conclusion of the main reason and the
trend of climate change.

What Are The Advantages Of Safety Culture
Advantages of Developing a Safety Aware Atmosphere within the Place of work
Safety within the place of work is going through change: changing from an optional extra to some
compliance necessity, firms are actually progressively realizing the numerous advantages of
developing, and carrying out to, a powerful safety culture. These vary from elevated staff morale and
elevated productivity, to reduced injuries related costs, competitive insurance rates and enhanced
turnover profits and status.
However, encouraging a culture of safety involves greater than mere lip service. Safety orientated
values, lengthy term obligations to firm wide safety, and consistent concrete actions determines which
organisations will reap the rewards of making and looking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Any actions, however small, which decision makers or managers decide to try encourage, promote or
support safety within the place of work may have an optimistic knock on impact on all personnel.
(Like a corollary, positive verbal communication may have little impact if it s not supported by
similarly positive actions.) The very best actions which senior staff people may take are individuals
which overtly reward safety oriented behavior in other people. This, above all else, will be sending a
note of the significance of safety towards the organisation.
Altogether, a firm s safety culture is a mix of its values, communications and, most importantly, its
actions.
Working on your Firm s Safety Culture
All firms possess a safety culture however, not every have an optimistic one. Before you do something
to build up your firms, you have to figure out what kind of safety culture has already been in position.
Identify Your Personal Culture
The initial step is to talk with the personnel assigned using the organisation s safety the right manager
or consultant. This gives feedback on which the firm would ideally wish its values to become. The
truth, however, might be quite different, and may simply be evaluated in the ground up: by interacting
with all of staff people, and determining their awareness from the organisation s safety

Life Leading Up to Siddhartha Gautama s Awakening Essay
Life Leading Up to Siddhartha Gautama s Awakening It is thought by many that the Buddha,
Siddhartha Gautama, was born having this title and did not have to endure any hardships throughout
his life. Despite these thoughts, Siddhartha Gautama was not born the Buddha, but had to find his own
way to achieve enlightenment and become the Buddha. Before and after Siddhartha s birth, Siddhartha
s mother and father knew that their son was special and had two paths in life that could lead
Siddhartha into being a great king or a Buddha, a remover in the world of the veil of ignorance. In an
attempt to steer Siddhartha s life to the path of the great king, his father, King Suddhodana Gautama,

Lopez writes it, emerged from under the right arm of Queen Maya and unlike other newborns, the
child was able to walk and talk immediately. A lotus flower blossomed under the infant s feet at each
step, and then the child announced that this would be his last lifetime (37). King Suddhodana
Gautama, the infant s father, summoned Asita, a Brahmin of dignified mien, to see the child. While
holding the infant, Asita began to weep and sighed deeply; this caused King Suddhodana distress, so
King Suddhodana asked Asita, Why has the sight of my son caused you grief and pain? Asita, as in
Paul Carus s writes, answers King Suddhodana s question thoroughly: The King, like the moon when
full should feel great joy, for he has acquired a wondrously noble son. I do not worship Brahma, but I
worship this child; and the gods in the temples will descend from their places of honor to adore him.
Banish all anxiety and doubt; the omens manifested indicate that the child now born will bring
deliverance to the whole world. The wheel of empire will come to him. He will either be a king of
kings to govern all the lands of Earth, or eh will become a Buddha. He is born for the sake of
everything that lives. His pure teaching will be like the shore that receives the shipwrecks. His power
of meditation will be like a cool lake; and all creatures parched with the drought of lust may freely
drink from it. The king of the law has come forth to rescue from bondage all the

The theme of the play is basically that nothing in life goes by plan and that is what makes life so funny. A shoemaker and cobbler can be interchangeable terms for someone who makes or fixes shoes. The Life of Galileo The Battle For Truth Throughout the course of history, from era to era, mankind has been on a continuous attempt to perpetuate what they perceive as the truth; and in doing so, embark on a quest to find their true identity and place in life. One must realize that the common theme in all literature is the search for identity and belonging. Bertolt Brecht, author of The Life of Galileo, effectively uses the developing character Galileo Galilei to portray a strong message; a message which five hundred years after the fact has still not been completely comprehended. (Brecht 40) After the Old Cardinal implicitly tells Galileo that his research and teachings symbolize atheism, he is approached by Clavius whom tells Galileo that he is right and that he is invited to Rome to show his research. It is interesting to see Galileo s response in crediting reason for his achievement. It is here where the reader sees Galileo s thoughts and perceptions on life; that science and its achievements should not only be credited to the founder yet the society that encourages these findings; that the progress of human kind as a whole should be the objective of inventions. Using Galileo, Brecht continuously stresses these points throughout the play and is making it clear that he is against the notion of the discouragement of ideas, inventions, and thinking. Although external forces such as the church and other characters do not influence Galileo s personal belief, there are also internal forces, such as the battle against self, that also influence Galileo s perception on both his work and human kind. There are three types of economic systems: planned, market, and mixed. A planned economy is an economic system where the government decides what should be produced, how much it should cost, and how much people should be paid. A market economy is a type of economic system where there is competition and prices are set by supply and demand. There is little government involvement. A mixed economic system is a mix of these two. Canada is more of a planned economic system, leaning towards mixed, and the United States of America (USA) is a market/mixed economic system. American society has kept white rich men in the nation superior, while keeping Black people and other minorities such as women in the lower realms of the society. Aristotle s A Definition of Justice describes the differences of the state with an oligarchy and democracy as government. In both systems of government, Aristotle states men have a misconception of justice. Justice is thought by them to be, and is, equality, not, however, for all, but only for equals. And inequality is thought to be, and is, justice; neither is this for all, but only for inequals. • 24. Discussion Of Suicide In Shakespeare s Hamlet-To Be Or Not... To be or not to be, that is the question that brit lit students all over the world are asked to analyze. In Hamlet by William Shakespeare, there is a timeless soliloquy in Act III scene I where Hamlet is contemplating if suicide is valid. It is very important to the show overall because it is the reader s job to decide if Hamlet is being devious or if he really has gone crazy. Since this soliloquy is so popular there have been many interpretations done of it, and Ethan Hawke s in particular stands out to me. The very famous to be or not to be speech asks if suicide is okay, lets the reader decide if Hamlet is crazy or not, and there have been many interpretations of it over the years. In his classic monologue, Hamlet questions the validity of suicide. The main question he asks is, is it better to face the problems life throws your way or to just put an end to all of it? He compares death to an endless sleep, but since no one knows what the sleep bring, committing suicide could be considered noble. The film s use of surrealism is masterfully placed in a way that is interesting to the average viewer. The most notable area in the film is when Simba is thinking about should he leave to go to the pride lands and his father s image appears in the stars. He receives guidance from beyond. The reason why it was such a compelling scene was because Mufasa s reappearance validated to the audience that Simba was never alone. There are certain guidelines that should be followed when it comes to using restraints. It is important to know the different kinds of restraints, how to apply a physical restraint properly and how to administer a chemical restraint safely. It is important to consider alternatives as the use of restraints can present risk and negative outcomes. History of Restraints Restraints were incorporated into health care many decades ago. In the late 1970s, more than 25% of U.S residents in long term care facilities were restrained compared to a current average of 5% (Taylor, Lillis, Lynn, 2015, p. 707). Since 1987, the federal government and accrediting agencies have worked to reduce or eliminate the use of restraints (Taylor et al. 2015, p. 708). Also according to Taylor, Lillis, and Lynn (2015) a Safety Alert from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1995 informed nurses and other members of the health care team the risks of using side rails, especially when all four side rails are up. Different Types of Restraints There are three categories of restraints. The three categories are physical, chemical, and seclusion. Chemical restraints are drugs that are administered that do the same thing a physical restraint does. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Negative and Positive Benefits of Fluoride The ingestion of fluoride has been associated to benefits for the teeth. According to some observers in the past, fluoride strengthens the enamel of the teeth making it not so susceptible to cavities. From this hypothesis the fluoridation of water had its start and until today it is believed to be one of the most responsible sources for reducing cavities in the population (Graham Morin, 1999). In some author s view the fluoridation of the water implies a significant change and the positive effects can been seen in the so called post fluoride generation. In this generation the number of adults without any teeth has dramatically declined and similar improvements can be observed in the periodontal health − related to gums and supporting structures of teeth − (Milgrom Reisine, 2000). However the lack of consideration of fluoride s potential to be harmful to human s health is questionable and studies have pointed out the dark side of this compound (Bryson, 2006). A study conducted in the cities of Newburgh and Kingston, in New York have shown that the prevalence of cavities in the population is similar or even less in communities that doesn t have artificial fluoridated water compared to the ones that have fluoride add to the water. This study conducted forty years ago is one considerable evidence that fluoridating the water isn t strongly necessary nowadays to prevent tooth decay, considering that the access to fluoridated products, such as toothpaste, mouthwash and ... He explains how each topic relates to the lives of nineteen year old young men during the first World War. In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Remarque either supports or rejects these topics by illustrating them in the soldier s daily lives. Each of the characters confronts the four main themes throughout their wartime experience. Remarque feels that these men should not have to show bravery in war, however, bravery is possibly the most important of the major themes in the novel. During the story, each of the characters have a moment in which bravery was a large key factor that helped them survive the war. Although Remarque believes that bravery in war is not necessary for the young men, he does believe that standing up to people who have ruled over you with cruel power is a necessary act of bravery. In the book it says, We seized the bed cover, made a quick leap, threw it over his head from behind and pulled it round him so that he stood there in a white sack unable to raise his arms. Captivity is the main concept touched in Daniel Quinn s novel, Ishmael, and Plato s Allegory of the Cave. Plato makes the compelling argument that people are captives of the world of ignorance. Ishmael complements Plato s allegory by agreeing that there are two groups of people, that it would be difficult to distinguish the truth, and that people are being deceived. Plato and Ishmael were both able to indicate that there are two groups of people. In his allegory, Plato had described a cave with human beings living in it, they cannot move, and can only see before them..between the fire and the prisoners there is a raised way.. (DiYanni 406). He said that these people were prisoners who were left to believe that the shadows casted before them were the real truth. But the second group was people out of the cave. Similarly, Ishmael described that there were groups of people in the cave and out of it. The world of the Takers is one vast prison, and except for a handful of Leavers scattered across the world.. (Quinn 251). Ishmael has defined these two groups as Takers and Leavers. The Takers being those who are chained in the cave believing the world was made for their conquering shadow. It was during the 2nd millennium B.C. that these invaders made their way into India via north western borders of India (Emeneau, 1980)(Zograf, 1982). It is this language family that hold the highest position in the linguistic landscape of India. The Indo Aryan family is a branch out of the Indo European language family which made its way into the Indian soil (Zograf, 1982). The Aryan impact of the Aryan heritage can be seen substantially in the current Indian culture is a result of its invasion which had lasted for about 100 years (Zograf, 1982).
