Evaluate and Solve Common Security Related Problems
Introduction
Guidelines: It s always best to introduce a paper to the reader. It sets the tone and provides an
overview of what will be covered and what the goals are. * What is the intent of the lab? What
issues are addressed? Why is it important? What are the goals?
For this week s lab we are using various scenarios to compare and contrast different antenna types
and solutions to reduce signal spillover in a specific wireless network. Also we are evaluating and ...

4. Could other method(s) be used to prevent the signal from spilling outside the building?
The other option I might look into in this scenario is the possibility of perhaps there are too many
access points and perhaps a combination of removing and relocating access point could end up
giving you the same amount of coverage and or signal strength while being able to remove some
possible unnecessary access points
Scenario 2
5. What are the three primary methods for implementing security on this network, as well as the
advantages and disadvantages each? WEP is an older security protocol for wireless networks that
encrypts transmitted data. WEP uses a security code chosen during configuration called a WEP
key, which uses a sequence of hexadecimal digits. WEP keys can be formed in different lengths
depending on the type of WEP encryption being utilized. However it is generally not
recommended to use WEP especially when we re talking about networks that need more advanced
security. The biggest disadvantage found with WEP is really it s main weakness, a skilled hacker
could actually crack the security key within a matter of minutes using special software. The most
commonly used and recommended network security method is WPA2

Clay Fighter Essay
Clay comes to life in Clay Fighter: Sculptor s Cut for the Nintendo 64. This title was originally
exclusive to the Blockbuster chain of video rental stores. Because of this, it is one of the rarest
Nintendo 64 games. In the game s story, the evil Dr. Kiln is experimenting with clay based life
forms. His ultimate goal is to create an army of soldiers to take over the world. However, when
his plans go awry, it is every combatant for themselves. Clay Fighter: Sculptor s Cut was
developed and published by Interplay Entertainment for the N64. It was released in 1998, one year
after the original Nintendo 64 game.
Clay Fighter: Sculptor s Cut is a one on one fighting game. Two players will square off in an
area, and only one will be left standing. Players can punch, kick, and throw their opponent. Each
hit takes off a portion of your opponent s life bar. Once you deplete your opponent s life bar, you
will win the round. Despite its comical appearance, Clay Fighter: Sculptor s Cut has an array of in
depth gameplay mechanics. You can parry the attacks from your opponent. You can chain together
moves to create combos, which deal more damage to your opponent. A super meter will let you
pull off devastating attacks that will fill the screen. Each character has an array of special moves
that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Four new fighters were added to this version. These combatants were originally cut from the first
Nintendo 64 release. One of the new characters you can play as is Lady Liberty, which is the
statue of liberty come to life. Interplay also took the time to refine many elements of the combat
system. Some characters received all new moves while others had their moves slightly tweaked.
Some stories got revamped, offering additional insights into each character. An improved menu
system made it easier to navigate each menu. Lastly, this upgraded Nintendo game also got a new

(How Do All Electric Cars Work)
The first electric cars started driving on the streets of London in 1880 s. In 4 years Germans
started making them too, and it took 20 years for the first Electric car to appear in US. For a
while they were much more popular then gasoline cars but as the time went by, people started
noticing more and more advantages of gasoline cars, and a popularity of electric cars pretty much
died... until now. (Timeline: History of the Electric Car)
This year more than a million electric cars were sold. It is on 60% more than last year. (Lorraine
Chow). And half of them were bought by China. (Frank Holmes). But regardless of all the sales,
electric cars are still only 0,2% of all cars in the world. (Megan Geuss). There are more than
17,000 charging stations in US, about 150 of which are in Iowa. (Electric VehicleCharging Station

The Movie Exhibition Industry: 2011
What can exhibitors do to improve their performance? To reverse the downward trends in
attendance? To improve their profitability at a time when the studios, relying on the box office
more than ever, are increasingly looking internationally?
Let s start with a SWOT analysis of the local exhibitor:
SWOT Analysis
Strengths
* Offer a product that is still relatively affordable for families and patrons * Product offers an
escape from reality for consumers in a recessive economy * The big screen experience still cannot

They could also offer package deals to families that would include tickets and a preset concession
value or product. This would grow the adult demographic of parents who have small children that
want to see the latest kids release and be guaranteed concession sales for that group of consumers.
Another opportunity for theatre owners is to look at alternative uses for their facilities. The
overhead costs of the facility are fixed but could be offset by renting spaces during off peak
hours for events such as business conferences or school events. They could also use their screens
to show things other than major motion picture releases. With digital equipment I m sure there
would be a way to contract with major networks and cable providers to show popular television
series finales. The audiences of these series are hardcore fans. They could market the allure of a
big screen and the opportunity to experience the show with other fans. For example the audience
for shows like The Walking Dead, Homeland, and many other popular shows is a huge market.
Often these shows air on nights that theatres have low attendance. They could market it with
discounts offered for customers who come in costume.
Another product modification could be the ticket pricing set up. Perhaps they could lower the price
of movies after they have

Mademoiselle Reisz Analysis
The Influences of the Mademoiselle Reiz on the development of Edna Pontellier: Edna is the
protagonist of The Awakening by Kate Chopin. She is the wife of a New Orleans businessman.
She is not content with her marriage and the lifestyle that she must conform to. She changes
from her role as a devoted wife and mother to a woman who becomes engrossed in discovering
her own identity. She then goes through a series of experiences to satisfy herself mentally,
emotionally, and sexually. She changes from the woman of those times, who always stuck to
conformity, to someone who worries and is only responsible for herself. It is Mademoiselle who
influences her to become awakened in such a way. However this very awakening will be her
downfall. She will then begin to isolate herself from those around her and eventually choose
suicide as an escape. A main factor towards the development of Ednawould be Mademoiselle Reiz.
Her influence plays a vital role towards her awakening and change to her life style. From the
moment she heard Reiz play she had begun to be influenced. The very first chords Mademoiselle
Reisz struck on the piano sent a keen tremor down Mrs. Pontellier s spinal column. It was not the
first time she had heard an artist at the piano. Perhaps it was the first time she was ready, perhaps
the first time her being was tempered to take an impress of the abiding truth. (Chopin 29) . It can
be said that the change in Edna was sparked by this very moment. From here on Edna

scene the protagonist receives a gift from Mr. Thatcher wishing him a merry
Christmas. And cuts directly to a happy new year, some ten years later.
Suggesting conveniently, the lack of a meaningful childhood. This editing
technique carries the viewer quickly through time, to the beginning of Charles
idealism. The films plot is separated into flashbacks of the important people in
Kane s life. Each flashback is in sequence with the events of his life. The
nature of each flashback is consistent with the narrators opinion. The first
flashback is that of Mr. Thatcher s. He was the only person involved in Charles
pre adult life. Although not greatly involved, his presence is purely in the
area of financial aspects. Bernstein s flashback focuses on a very positive and
successful part of Kane s life. Which is concordant to Bernstein s idolization
of Charles. Jed Leiland s flashback is centered on Kane s downfall, and so on.
Throughout these recollections we slowly gather evidence with which to judge
Kane. This evidence along with the cinematic techniques used, create a perfectly
clear perception of the character s inner conflicts. The first occurrence
Charles selfish pride is depicted in a group of cuts with his new wife Emily.

Essay about Film Versions of Shakespeare Comedies
Film Versions of Shakespeare Comedies
Shakespearean plays are complex, intricate pieces of work in which a diverse range of
interpretations and readings can be made. This is particularly true of his comedies, where the light
hearted humour is often offset by darker, more serious undertones. In adapting these comedies it is
for the director in the cinematic context to decide how to interpret the play and which elements are
privileged and which are suppressed. This variance in interpretation is exemplified in comparing
two of the more recent cinematic adaptations of Shakespeare s comedies, Trevor Nunn s Twelfth
Night and Kenneth Branagh s A Much Ado About Nothing [ Much Ado ]. Although both films can
to an extent be seen as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This action is the first imperative step that leads to the undoing of several characters, primarily
Malvolio. It is essentially Malvolio s ultimate narcissism that allows the other characters to easily
plot his demise .
Nunn s adaptation of Feste is not dissimilar to Malvolio with his interpretation of the
professional clown proving persuasive because the fool presents wise insights into the
complicated web of love that many principal characters become entwined with. His ability to
suggest that love is a game, that lovers often love to love, and that love can be almost blind, are
important themes to the attraction and comedy of the film. However Nunn utilises Feste above
the scope of the comedic, with his poignant insights reminding the audience that this film is in
fact dealing with serious issues and at times, the deeper, disturbing, side of love. In Ben
Kingsley s moving performance, Feste becomes an outsider as a man who lives alone away
from Olivia s house yet somehow witnesses all that occurs amongst the characters and provides
some telling insights. This is illustrated when he shows Olivia why take away the fool could
mean take away the lady, arguing not only to save his job but also out of a deep compassion for
Olivia s grief over her brother s death, and a desire to show why she need not commit

Tamora Pierce Analysis
Critiquing Pierce: Best Aspects of Her Work
Tamora Pierce is a fiction author for young adults who has written over twenty eight novels all of
which include her vivid depiction of magic, beautiful fictional lands and an overall message of
young women empowerment. In the first series she ever wrote, called the Song of the Lioness
Quartet, the third book completely exemplifies her overall tone and message, especially in the
specific passage I chose for Writing I Love. Throughout the passage, which is mostly dialogue,
Pierce demonstrates several key conflicts that further develop throughout her novel: that of a young
female warrior in an extremely misogynistic society, and how the protagonist wants to portray
herself to the world.

well as a boy would or that she will be accepted as a female knight. She left the palace on an
adventure of self discovery and because of unforeseen circumstances revealed during this
passage, she will have to force herself to return to her previous life sooner than she had
obviously hoped. If ever, she thought with a terrible feeling of homesickness. It is vital, Ali

possibly return to court now that she has revealed that she is in fact female and not male, like
everyone had believed for so long. Although she is internally conflicted; she must not only now be
influenced by herself but also by those in need close to her.
Tamora Pierce is an exemplary young adult fantasy novelist and after completing one of her
novels, readers are left with a satisfied feeling of completing a grand adventure. She ties her
novels together, intertwining characters or places from past plot lines into her newer pieces of
writing. Pierce gives her female readers a young same gendered role model, especially in this series,
who strives for greatness and always stands up for herself as a young

Describe The Relationship Between Samsov And Gumbinnenkampf
On August 26, 1914, the German 8th Army, under the leadership of Paul von Hindenburg and Erich
Ludendorff, strikes with lethal force against the advancing Russian 2nd Army, led by General
Aleksandr Samsonov, in East Prussia during the opening weeks of the First World War.
In the middle of August 1914, much sooner than had been anticipated, Russia sent two armies into
East Prussia, while Germany, according to its war strategy, had the bulk of its forces concentrated to
the west, against France. The Russian 1st Army, under General Pavel Rennenkampf, advanced to
the northeastern corner of East Prussia, while Samsonov s 2nd Army made headway into the
southwest, planning to join with Rennenkampf s men and pin the outnumbered German 8th Army
between them. After a Russian victory in the Battle of Gumbinnen on ... Show more content on

Though Ludendorff succumbed to nerves initially, delaying the start of the German attack by one
day, Hindenburg was able to calm his subordinate not for the last time in what would become a
fabled partnership. On August 26, after intercepting uuencoded wireless messages from both
Samsonov and Rennenkampf, the Germans were able to take Samsonov s army by surprise with
the force of their attack near the village of Tannenberg, to the southwest of the Masurian Lakes. The
delay in starting the attack had given Samsonov s forces more time to advance deeper into the sack
formed by the German divisions enveloping them from both sides, the strength of which Samsonov
consistently underestimated. After three days of battering by German artillery, Samsonov s troops
began their retreat; more German forces cut off their path and a massive slaughter ensued. In the
first hours of August 30, confronting the reality of his army s collapse, Samsonov went into the
forest, away from his staff, and shot

Each set of conducts will adhere to standards of behavior in which the employer, other
professional relationships, and employees will follow towards the public that it serves (Bardetti
Moriarty2009). A professional code of conduct is essential for all heath care workers because of
the depth of inside access and protected medical and financial information that health care
workers are privy. Therefore, all healthcare workers are supposed to uphold the code of conduct
or ethics which brings integrity to the field of health care. This paper is going to focus on the
code of ethics for a long term care facility organization including those in management, support,
and professional roles. Nearly all health care organizations will have a similar type of code of
conduct, but there will be slight differences due to the type of health care facility. A long term
care facility or (LTC) is a type of facility that caters to the medical and non medical needs of
patients with disability or chronic type of diseases. A long term care facility may also be a
service that takes care of elderly patients who are unable to take care of themselves and needs the
full time specialized care from professionals. A long term care facility does more to its clients and
patients more than other specialties. For instance, in long term care facilities, providers assist

The Importance Of Music Therapy
A bullet to the left of the brain almost caused Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, a permanent
speech imparity. Gabrielle experienced aphasia (a language disorder that stops communication), but
she participated in music therapy for healing. She learned how to think straightforwardly by
matching the lyrics of the song to the rhythm and the melody. In the right side of the brain, singing
abilities occur, but on the left side people can work around the injury by dropping the melody after
they sing their thoughts (Harvard). Eventually, due to this music therapyprocess, Gabrielle
recovered and got her speech ability back. Even though music is used everyday as entertainment, it
can also be used as a treatment option to help people. Music therapyhas been able to help people
communicate and it has recovered speech and hearing imparities. Music therapy is the use of music
elements by music therapist to help restore and maintain physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional
health. Music therapy opens a path of communication for people who have trouble communicating
through words. Doctors should use music therapy more as a treatment in hospitals, nursing homes,
and rehabilitation centers.
Participating in music therapy was found to help people who experience self esteem issues and
depression. A scientific study was performed by a group of scientist in Poole, England to prove
whether or not music lessened the amount of depression a child felt. Bournemouth University in

as the narrator of the video. The video begins with a stagnant introduction by Mr. McDaniel, and
explains this video is covering the topic of mood disorders. The common definition of mood
disorder is given, a collection of psychiatric conditions that involve a pervasive distortion of one s
emotional state. He also notes that everyone has normal, periodic changes, and this common

A Better Way Of Life
A Better Way of Life Alcoholism is a disease that affects millions of people all around the world.
Everyday people die from alcoholism, families are split, children and wives are abused, jobs are
lost and good people seem more and more hopeless. According to Mayoclinic.org, an online medical
dictionary, alcoholismcan be described as a pattern of heavy drinking which involves trouble of
controlling the intake of alcohol, still drinking after problems flourish that are caused by our
drinking, having to drink more and more every time to get to the same buzz and having alcohol
withdrawals when you stop or drink less. These are symptoms of a life threatening disease.
Many might say that alcoholism is mind state and could simply be dominated with a strong will
power, this is not the case. A true alcoholic cannot stop drinking on his own and live a happy and
normal life. Alcohol takes control of the mind , the body and the spirit, quitting seems nearly
impossible. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence,
(NCADD), this year in the United states it was calculated that around 17.6 Million people drink
alcohol in an abusive way. It also mentions that 88,000 deaths are due an excessive use of alcohol
and 40% of patients in hospitals are being treated for conditions caused by a heavy drinking
lifestyle. It is clear and evident that there is a huge problem, a problem that is ignored by many
who do not see this disease as dangerous as it really is.

A Note On Detection Algorithm
2.1 PAGE CHANGE DETECTION ALGORITHM
2.1.1 Introduction: About 60% of the content on the web is dynamic. It is quiet possible that
after downloading a particular web page, the local copy of the page residing in the repository of
the web pages becomes obsolete compared to the copy on the web. Therefore a need arises to
update the database of web pages. Once a decision has been taken to update the pages, it should
be ensured that minimal resources are used in the process. Updating only those elements of the
database, which have actually undergone a change, can do this. Importance of web pages to be
downloaded has been discussed in the above section. It also checks whether the page is already
there in the database or not and lowers its priority value if it is referred rather frequently. In this
section, we discuss some algorithms to derive certain parameters, which can help in deriving the
fact whether the page has changed, or not. These parameters will be calculated at the time of page
parsing. When the client again counters the same URL, it just calculates the code by parsing the
page without downloading the page and compares it to the current parameters. If changes in
parameters are detected, it is concluded that the page has changed and needs to be downloaded
again. Otherwise the URL is discarded immediately without further processing. The following
changes are of importance when considering changes in a web page:
Change in page structure.
Change in text contents.

Smoking Has Changed Through The Years
Smoking has greatly changed through the years. However, if one thinks about, it does smoking
control society in a particular way, or does society control the view on smoking. Through time, one
can discover that there are many examples that may explain this question.
People in the 1960 s thought smoking was considered cool at the time and it was the thing to do.
Many people saw smoking as a symbol of statuses, such as being a hard worker or even an office
worker. It showed that one had class because you were a refined person with a good paying job
(White, Cameron,Oliffe, Bottorff). In many cases, smoking was considered beautiful for a women
to smoke, in addition to her daily beauty routine. It was also associated with a strong, hardworking,
and handsome man who all the woman would try to get a date with.
Many people were misled by the cigarette companies who claimed that their cigarettes were easy
on the throat. The cigarette companies labeled the cigarette cartons with a picture of a man in a
white lab coat that represented a doctor. They also printed on the cartons that they asked your
doctor if it was ok to smoke, but in reality, they did not (Gardner, Martha, Brandt). This marketing
scheme worked very well to mislead people in believing that cigarettes were healthy for you.
Since people see Doctors as intelligent people and are professionals in their respective field and
studied medicine for years, people believe them undoubtedly.
The media was very successful in

Related With Substance Use Disorders
Fourth and most interesting case, related with substance use disorders. DSM 5 perfectly explains
it In terms of a mal adaptive pattern of behaviors that are related to the continued use of drugs, in
spite of the fact that their use creates a set of significant problems for the person (Oltmanns Emery,
2015, p263).
Background Information
In this case study our subject Mark, was born in a small town where the main source of income
was the local power plant. His mother worked at a department store in a nearby town and his
father performed night shifts at the plant. There is a history of alcohol abuse from Mark`s father
although he regularly attended AA meetings. There is no recollection of Mark ever tried illicit
drugs as a teenager. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is an increased risk of Mark to develop a substance misuse due to the fact that there is a

use among adolescents, initial experimentation with drugs is most likely to occur among those
individuals who are rebellious and extroverted and whose parents and peers model or encourage
use (Oltmanns Emery, 2015, p303). This information might be confirmed by the fact that on his
teenager years Mark used one week s worth of pain medication in 3 days when he had extensive
dental work.
The hardship of Mark with strong complications of dealing with classes in the local community
college, and the always demanding job adding to the everyday parental activities will increase the
already preexisting stress in Mark.
Description of the presenting problem
Mark has been taking classes in the EMT Program at his local community college. Although it has
been challenging to juggle school, a demanding job, and parental responsibilities, he is close to
finishing his degree, and at this time he starts to panic as he realizes he only has a day before his

We Are What We Now Eat By Ivan Darias Alfonso And Black...
Food as a Way to Maintain and Find Identity in the Diaspora As people migrate to a foreign country,
they often look for ways to connect culturally with their new home country. Unfortunately,
sometimes immigrants have trouble dealing with an identity crisis, either identifying with their old
culture or with their new culture. One way of coping with this cultural change is through food.
Food can help give people a sense of belonging and identity. What Was Served by Douglas Bauer,
We Are What We Now Eat by Ivan Darias Alfonso and Black Dog of Fate by Peter Balakian s
shows a correlation between food and identity. Alfonso, Bauer and Balakian show how food
allows people reconnect with their native culture meanwhile, Alfonso and Balakain also show
how food can help immigrants adapt to a new one. Writing my first two essays allowed me to
realize that it is possible for people to reconnect with their native country in a completely new
country. I have experienced this first hand through my Spanish heritage. I am a first generation
American on my mom s side, meaning that I am the first person on my mom s side of the family
to be born in the United States. Because my parents were busy with work and I was mostly
raised by American nannies, I grew up without a sense of my Spanish identity. At a very young
age, I did not know a lot about where I came from and my native background. However, when my
parents became less occupied with work, they were able to instill vital cultural values

Dualist View On Identity
Identity criteria are a main component of who a person actually is, central elements of how
someone sees who they are and essential properties are urged to determine a person s identity. How
philosophers view the soul is essential one s personality. The duelists believe that wherever the soul
goes, that s where the mindgoes. The dualists view is based off of the fact that there is more to our
brain and ourselves than just the physical aspect, the soulstrongly supports this claim. Materialism
argues against the duelists because they only believe in the physical component of the world, in
their eyes a soul does not exist. Lastly, in the psychological view, John Locke implemented
memory into personal identity. Leibniz and Reid challenged Locke s ideas and came up with a
reasonable conclusion. Personal identity can be defined is through identity theft, but it is the
central elements of how someone perceives themselves to determine who they actually are. One
is that a single soul, one and the same, has been with this body I call mine since it was born. The
other is that one soul was associated with it until five years ago and then another, psychologically
similar, inheriting all the old memories and beliefs, took over. A third hypothesis is that every
five years a new soul takes over. A fourth is that every five minutes a new soul takes over Weirob
views souls by being able to move from one body to the next without us knowing, the duelists
strongly disagree with this theory.

Yet after the very innovative telephone came another great advancement in technology, the
cellphone, which is a wireless device that includes a variety of ways to communicate such as: phone
calls, text messages, audio clips, and even video chats. This advancement in technology brought
families, friends, acquaintances, and even coworkers closer together, allowing for an even greater
network of communication than ever before. However, the creation of the cellphone not only
allowed people to connect with one another, but it allowed them to stay in touch with each other
more often and not grow distant. As a result, it can be said that new advances in technology opens
channels of communication and gives people valuable assets they can use to learn, which in return
gives people the skill needed to communicate effectively. People then adapt to these accessible
ways and ever increase their connectivity with the rest of the world. Overall, with new technology
people can now communicate and interact much faster than before, and this allows them to not
distance themselves and not lose touch with people they care about and the rest of the world. As
technology grew, it gave rise to an abundance of online networks and databases, ultimately
developing different websites and applications in which people could interact and use for a variety

Separations Of Powers In Australia Essay
In the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Australia, exists a doctrine called the separation of
powers. This doctrine exists to ensure that no single body of government, is in a position to hold
all the power in the nation, when making decision s which can be detrimental to others. Yet at the
same time Australia does not use doctrine of separations of powers as strictly as other countries. It
is the intention of this essay to see how the doctrine of separations of power operates in Australia,
then compare it to another country. To see how it operates there and to view differences and
similarities which exist between these two countries.
To first understand why the doctrine of separations of powers operates differently in Australia,
we first must establish what exactly the Separations of powers is. As such the Separations of
Powers doctrine, can basically be expressed as separating the three major bodies of government,
to reduce the likelihood of one body obtaining all the power in the government . The three bodies
of government comprise of: the Legislative, the Executive and the Judicial. The Legislative body
comprises up of parliament and their main role is to make the laws. The Executive role is to
enforce the laws and they are made up of the Prime Minister and ... Show more content on

Research Paper On Friday Night Lights
Friday Night Lights Research Paper In H.G. Bissinger s novel Friday Night Lights he goes in
depth describing the world surrounding high school football in Texas. There is nothing like
high school football in Texas, it is the best thing to happen to many of the people that live there.
Winning a high school state championship in Texas can make someone a hero for the rest of
their lives. This being said, it causes a lot of difficulties once this peak in their life is over at
such a young age. Many of these people do not know how to live with themselves after their
days of football are over. They grow up and live through their kids. Sports and academics are two
of the areas of life where parents attempt to live their dreams and ambitions through their
children. Some parents try to continue their athletic careers or have a successful athletic career
through their kids on a daily basis. This can come from them not fulfilling lifetime dreams or
having an unsuccessful career when they had the chance to participate in these athletic events.
Charlie Billingsley is a very good example of one of those parents. He lives his old running back
career through his son, Don Billingsley, who also plays running back. Charlie was a very
successful player for the Permian football team. He played in college but let alcohol become more
important than football. Charlie admitted to it in Friday Night Lights in a conversation. It is stated,

Essay about William Gibson s Idoru
Idoru Idoru by william gibson is nothing less than an awe insiring book for me. no other author
that i have come across can inspire one to recreate visions of reality at the turn of every page.
Gibsons books are all compelling; neuromancer (1984) needing perhaps a special mention; as this
book single handedly created the cyberpunk genre, aswell as coining phrases such as cyberspace .
However, as one of his later works (1996), we are able to find within Idorus more contempory
exploration of our worlds transformation into a high density infomation governed datasphere, an
analysis of what might happen to certain aspects of humanity as technology, infomation, and a new
reality converge within the global infrastructure.

pages and pages outlining the aspects of the world that Idoru covers; every little point begs to be
interperated, and as there is such a wealth of infomation, ideas, and typographic references to
modern culture, a mass of isomorphisms which reach out to one, this book is, to me, personally at
least, bordering on revolutionary.
Idoru is however, not a work of classic liturature, and doesnt share much with its classical literary
counterparts (Brave new world for example), but as a work on its own, within its own genre it is
certainly one of the finest. Perhaps in this analysis, one should consider the usual analytical tools
(plot, structure, characterisation etc), aswell as how this book could help us in predicting a
(considerably less dark) vision of the future, not to mention what it is about this book that inspires
one so much.
As previously mentioned, this novels plot is somewhat complicated this however does not detract
from the overall flow of the book in a sense, the density of infomation and detail we are faced with
when reading, acts as a mechanism to allow us to live the moment in the novel a citizen in an
infomtion dense society would be faced with so many details on a daily basis, it

can be challenging and painful process. Change within an organization can cause tense situation
which can be disturbing to the employees. Under such circumstances, employees have low morale,

Sources and Symptoms Resistance to change can cost a significant loss to the business such as
project failure, failure of new initiatives, and customer loss. Resistance is simply a reactive
behavior. Managing employee s resistance to change involves determining both its sources and
symptoms. The sources of resistance are employees perceptions of change which are the beliefs and
emotions that color their judgment. Sources are the root from which the symptoms of resistance
grow. The sources are the thinking and feeling elements of the resistance. The sources of resistance
are the emotional and intellectual responses to the change. The symptoms of resistance are
employees reactions to the change. Symptoms involve dysfunctional behaviors that result when
employees act to the sources of resistance. The symptoms are the behaviors that result from the
employees thoughts and feelings about the change. Active and Passive Reaction to change in an
organization is directly linked to employees perception about the personal impact. The symptoms
of reaction can be found at every level of the organization. Employees resistance to change can be

Political Parties Disadvantages
A political party is an alliance of like minded people who work together to win elections and
control of the government. Political parties compete against one another for political power and for
the ability to put their philosophies and policies into effect. Political parties are therefore essential
institution in modern democratic politics. By definition, competitive party systems contain at least
two important parties, but they sometimes have many more. Hence, the simplest distinction to
make is between two party and multi party systems. Caribbean politics is typified by a two party
completion. Jamaica is the classic case of the British style two party model, it is the only country
in which two large parties competed under the first general election; in which there was a perfect
record of two party alternation in governmentbetween 1944 and 1980; and where third parties and
independent candidates never posed a challenge to the established parties namely Peoples National
party (PNP). The Jamaican system has been the best example of a two party system.
Advantage of competitive party system in Jamaica
It creates a linkage and shape democratic policy. This system shapes the electoral linkages between
citizen and policy makers / government. Moreover, parties are a means through which constitutional
arrangements developed and shape democratic policy making. These democratic policy making are
inclusive of constitutional reforms, new labor laws,

Failure Of Socialism And Fascism
The failure of Socialism and Fascism to make any significant positive impact in Britain contributed
the overall decline in popular support during the early years after the Great War. Poor economic
conditions were accepted with reluctance and a sense of little hope for substantial change within
the political process. Social classideology that contributed to failure finding common ground in the
populations was ultimately overcome by the overall hatred of Fascismand the popular belief that
violence was no longer acceptable in Britain. George Orwell provides the most convincing
arguments why Socialismwas failing and in his book The Road to Wigin Pier, we learn of the
great economic challenges that many working class faces. Orwell suggests several reasons for the
moderate response to the troubled economic conditions. He writes that many of the working had a
sense of the inability to make change within society through the political process. When he
questioned a working class person on why they would not form a union, Orwell quotes them
stating he was immediately told that they would never allow it. I asked who are they.1 The
working class had a feeling the current management and political system would discourage
formation of any beneficial organization that was truly on the behalf of the workers. Orwell goes
on to also point out that many of the working class may have not truly been aware of the actual
conditions that they were living. When talking to a miner,

managing styles are effective for a well ran organization with good employees. Some aspects of a

Critical appreciation: Erving Goffman; The presentation of self in everyday life.
Erving Goffman was one of the most important Sociologists in the 20th century who focussed his
study on aspects of social life. It is often argued that Goffman was one of the twentieth century s
most remarkable practitioners of social science (Smith, 2006:1). He was born on the 11th June
1922 in Alberta, Canada. His parents were Jewish and part of the group of Ukrainians who moved
to Canada before the beginning of the First World War. Initially Goffman studied Chemistry before

He also implies how an individual will be focussed on making a favourable show of him (a good
impression) which gives another explanation to why humans can be seen as actors in situations of
social interaction, they act how they think the audience (observers) want them to act. To summarise
his chapter on presentation Goffman s primary assumption is that individuals differ not by their
specific qualities, but by the situations they find themselves in to which they adopt different roles to
perform for the observer .
For this work Goffman gained inspiration from his own personal experiences, as his wife
struggled with mental illness and he chose to travel to the Shetland Islands to study the
interaction in their society. His wife s illness may have shaped his argument as another key
piece of his work was Asylums where he carried out fieldwork in a hospital where he wished to
look at the social world of an inmate. In his findings he was very critical and stated how
behaviour that was deemed out of the ordinary was simply someone not conforming to the rules
and expectations of society. If those rules or norms/values are broken that person would be
viewed as an outsider and therefore displays an inability to play the role of an actor .

There are few advantages and disadvantage that I have learnt in the case study as below:
Advantage: ABC accuracy
ABC is more accurate in the cost accounting compare to TCA. With the accurate cost allocation, the
company can gain more advantage in price competition in the market.
Advantage: Break down of cost by activities
During the process of ABC, activities are identified and break down with individual cost. The break
down is very useful to the company to strategies the cost reduction since it will show the largest
cost contributor from the operation.
Disadvantage: Cost to have ABC
The ABC need an start up investment in term of cost and resources in collecting data for the
analysis hence there is a cost for the implementation of this method.
4.Practical use of ABC
During the study, I have practiced to calculate the indirect cost with ABC method on each cost
driver for different products. From this, I understand that the indirect cost for different product is
distributed in different ratio. For example, the cost of machining is contributing almost 75% in
producing valve but it only contributing 10% for flow controller. With the info, a company can
eventually calculate the more accurate allocation of indirect with respect to different product and it
will help the company to set the selling price more precisely and maximize the profit.

Shift In The American Political System
The American political system is one in which change occurs slowly and incrementally, if at all.
This long term stability prevents shortsighted populism from driving large scale changes that
potentially have long term impacts. Thus, if the American political system is trending on a path
that lends itself well to the fulfillment of the democratic ideals of equal voice, representation,
majority rule, and minority protection the stability of the system allows it to continue along this
path. However, when a number of these small, incremental changes reinforce one another toward an
unequal or unresponsive system these trends are just as difficult to reverse. This paper will examine
three specific shifts in the American political system: a) the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Skocpol (2007) shows that while as early as 1960 a number of national public interest groups
were structured in a way that promoted grass roots activism and required a number of local
chapters. These membership groups gained the strength to engage in activism through the number
of members they were able to mobilize. These interest groups, then, could claim to be
representative of the general public s interests because they were made up of members of the
general public. However, Skocpol further argues that beginning in the 1970 s there was a shift
toward more professionally run organizations. Instead of recruiting members to volunteer and
mobilize, these new groups featured predominantly professional members and functioned through
the use of lobbying. Instead of a high number of members, these new groups were primarily
focused on raising money in order to lobby for more narrow interests. In 2001, only 12% of all
Washington interest groups were associations of individuals (Schlozman et al.

Character Analysis Of Whistling Vivaldi
The focal subject of Whistling Vivaldi is character, and, moreover, the distinctive ways
individuals react to each other s personalities. Amid his times of research into social brain science,
Claude Steele has considered a wide range of types of character, including, race, sexual orientation,
ethnicity, social introduction, class, and age. One of the premises of his exploration is that
individuals will definitely judge each other on the premise of their personality. Moreover, Steele
contends that each one of a kind personality has a related generalization a sort of short hand for
seeing how individuals with that character will act. Stereotyping is, obviously, a typical type of
extremism. For instance, a math teacher who expect that a female understudywon t be ready to
comprehend the material is utilizing a sexist generalization that ladies aren t great at math to judge
the understudy s conduct. Steele indicates how stereotyping, and the danger of being stereotyped,
can apply an immense impact on various individuals conduct.
Ostensibly Steele s most critical knowledge about stereotyping is that the consciousness of
generalizations (and especially the dread of being stereotyped) can be more capable than an
unequivocal instance of stereotyping. Quite a bit of Steele s examination is revolved around the
dread of being stereotyped or, put another route, of satisfying a generalization, especially in a
college setting. For instance, Steele and his partners sorted out trials in which high contrast
Stanford understudies were made a request to take a troublesome test. Half of the understudies were
informed that the exam measured insight, while the other half were told the exam was an analytic
test, and not organized to gauge knowledge. Steele found that dark understudies who d been
informed that the exam measured knowledge did more awful than white understudies who d gotten
a similar data. In any case, dark understudies who d been told the exam didn t quantify insight
performed at an indistinguishable level from their white partners. Steele translates his investigations
to recommend that dark understudies dread of affirming a contemptible generalization in particular,
that dark individuals are less wise than white

Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth. ― Muhammad Ali. Being
successful doesn t make you great, but helping other does. In the fictional story, Abuela Invents the
Zero, by Judith Ortiz Cofer illustrates the idea of helping and caring others through the story of
Constancia(Connie) and Abuela(Grandmother). In a brief overview, Abuela comes from Puerto

and help others when in need of help because if it wasn t for them she wouldn t be there.
Judith Ortiz Cofer claims that You should know, Constancia, that if it wasn t for the old woman
whose existence you don t seem to value, you and I would not be here. In other words, Judith

Huckleberry Finn Documentary Analysis
When discussing Mark Twain, there are often aspects about him and his life in general that are
controversial and unclear. Ken Burns documentary not only provides an in depth analysis of
Mark Twain s life, but also provides clarity to some of those highly disputed questions. An
example of one of these questions that Burns frequently addresses is if Mark Twain s life was as
interesting and significant as it is suggested to be. Ken Burns addresses this by establishing
throughout the documentary that Mark Twain is a loveable and complex human being and backs
this up with many different examples. The complexity of his life is shown in the documentary by
all of the immense hardships and success that Twain encounters in his life. One of the many
hardships that Twain endured during his life was when his daughter Suzie got sick and passed
away while he was traveling with his wife... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After learning a lot about his many contrasting life experiences, I increasingly found myself
admiring him for a couple different reasons. One reason is that his life wasn t perfect and golden
as most people believe it to be. Before he made it as a writer, he was very unsuccessful and even
contemplated suicide from time to time. I am not implying that trying to kill yourself makes you
a better person, however, it does serve as an example of Twain having a very rough upbringing
and life before his immense fame. Whilst reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, I felt
somewhat negatively towards Twain s character, mostly because of the horribly racist things that
he wrote. I understood that these situations and lines were critical to the story, but I can t deny that
some of it was hard to stomach. This said, Burns documentary really gave some needed depth to
Twain s character that made him a lot more likable and

Flannery O Connor s Everything That Rises Must Converge...
The story that i ve decided to do my literature essay on is Flannery O Connor s Everything That
Rises Must Converge . The story starts off with a son, a recent college graduate who currently
sells typewriters, escorting his mom on the bus to her exercise classes. Throughout the whole story
it gives many hints towards the son, Julian s irritation of his mother. The mother would brag about
how her grandfather owned slaves at a plantation, and would speak out loud to other strangers how
she was glad that the bus she was hopping on didn t have any black peopleon it. It was very clear in
the story that Julian s mother was racist but Julian didn t feel the same way about African
Americans. Julian actually wanted to embrace black people and wanted to know more about them.
When he sat on the bus, he would ponder thoughts of one day having a long conversation with an
intellectual black person, or maybe even bringing home an African Americangirlfriend one day.
Suddenly black people start to hop on the same bus as Julian and his mother. His mother starts to
be overly nice to the African Americans, the type of nice where you can tell that her true feelings
for the person is pity. Theres key detail where Julian s mother is wearing an ugly hat that doesn t
actually fit her appearance, however there is a black female who has the exact same hat on and it
looks better on herself. She becomes upset when she sees her son sitting next to one of the black
men, but she doesn t say anything.

The Constraints Of Constraint Management
A constraint is anything that limits a system from achieving higher performance relative to its goal.
Constraint management seeks to help managers at all levels of an organization. It ensures that they
maintain proper focus on the factors that are most critical to overall success of system constraints.
ConstraintManagement efforts can immediately resolve extremely negative effects from machine,
labor, and process inefficiencies, and have the ability to fund an entire transition to lean through
substantial increases in throughput.
There are three rules to constraint management. They are identifying system constraints, exploiting
the constraint, and improving the constraint gaps. A business owner or supervisor using the
constraint model of management can t focus employees on system constraints without first
identifying those constraints. Naming the constraints that are integral to a company s success,
including company work policies and manufacturing standards, sets up clear expectations for
employees regarding performance and productivity. Exploiting the constraint is the process by
which a company maximizes profit through use of a given system constraint. Tying the completion
of project steps by nonconstrained resources to completion by constrained resources improves
operational efficiency and closes gaps in schedules. (Lister, 2016).
On a daily basis, a company s constraint is the major regulating factor that decreases the amount of
material or items passing

The Problem of Badger Control in Great Britain Essay
Introduction
Since 1973, controlling badgers in Great Britain has been a political problem. Badgers are one of
the most well known animals in Britain; hence the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 was designed to
protect them (Natural England). However, tuberculosis was discovered in badgers as a result of
Mycobacterium bovis (Muirhead et al., 1974). Till this day, some argue that badgers are a
significant source of infection for cattle, which raises a concern for the society (Krebs, 1997).
Therefore, it raises the issue of whether trials to test the efficacy of badger culling in control of
bovine tuberculosis should be permitted.
Review
Mycobacterium bovis not only causes bovine tuberculosis in badgers but also infects cattle and deer.

The culling of badgers disrupts the structure of their social group, which leads to a widespread
of tuberculosis as they move further away to establish new groups (Briggs, 2012). As a result,
there is an increase in incidence outside areas where badgers were not culled. Consequently,
people are relying on vaccinations and even the government in Devon is providing funds to
farmers who are in areas of high risk (Jones, 2013). The vaccination project in Gloucestershire has
been very successful and in one year it has already immunised 998 badgers. Additionally, improving
biosecurity could decrease transmission by preventing badgers from entering farms and coming
into contact with cattle (Briggs, 2012).
Discussion
Even though vaccinations are expensive and require a lot of effort, rather than immunising badgers,
cattle would relatively cost less and still be successful in controlling bovine tuberculosis (Jones,
2013). However, at the moment the legislation of the European Union bans the vaccination of cattle
because checking for infection in the animals would become challenging (Department for
Environment Food and Rural Affairs). Farmers need a solution to the problem immediately and
they cannot wait for ten years to abolish the ban as incidents in cattle herds are rising increasingly
over the past few years (Briggs, 2012). Thus, culling badgers is the most effective method at present
when considering

Summary Of Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother
In Patrick Goldstein s response to Amy Chua s book Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, he makes
the argument that while earning a degree or graduating summa cum laude is critical to success
for some people. Many of today s wealthiest, most innovative people either dropped out or did not
go to college. Rather, they learned through informal experience, working their way from the
absolute bottom, up to becoming universally respected millionaires and billionaires. Goldstein
analyzes Chua s definition of the word success; to be top of the class, to go to an Ivy League school,
and to get a great paying job. He compares success to show biz and Hollywood, a town built by
mostly uneducated millionaires. He challenges Chua to see a different perspective on the means of
becoming successful. Goldstein mentions Chua s discussion with former president of Harvard
UniversityLarry Summers at a past World Economic Forum in Switzerland. Summers argued that
the two Harvard students that have had the most impact on the world both dropped out of the
school (Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg). Goldstein asserts that they didn t get to the top of their
industries by book learning. Their knowledge extended beyond the classroom, learning in a way
that Chua would consider unorthodox or weak. Gates and Zuckerberg became billionaires
partially because of their ideas, but a big part of their success was their ability to network with
their peers or big companies. In another example, Goldstein recalls

An Analysis of the Choice Between Separated and Mixed...
An analysis of the choice between separated and mixed operation model for ICBC( London)
Abstract: Since the fifth wave of Merge and Acquisition in the 1990s, the global banking industries
have developed towards the direction of large scale, international and omnipotent banks. The mixed
operation of the commercial banks had already been the leading trend in the 21st century. With
China s entrance into WTO at the end of last century, the Chinese financial institutions, especially
the Chinese bank industries, are destined to participate in the global economy and to face the keen
competition from the financial conglomerate of the western developed countries. The commercial
banks still operate separately at present according to the law.... Show more content on

The competition among commercial banks increased. Especially, after joining WTO, Chinese state
owned commercial banks face more direct threat from foreign competition. However, China s
Commercial Bank Law clearly provides the current business model of commercial banks is separate
operation, separate supervision (Qu and Sun, 2006). Also as the renovation of technology and the
continuous development of the world s financial markets, the various financial derivatives have
been promoted. Meanwhile, the integration between different financial sectors gradually
strengthened. The original separated operation and supervision mechanism hinder the innovation of
financial system and enhancement of service efficiency. ICBC (London) is facing the level of
competition in the financial sector will become more intense, which requires the development
under the British FSA s supervision. It must keep the pace of the international financial banks.
That means the mixed operation will be the future development direction. To reach this argument,
this paper will be based on the primary and secondary data of operation performance of HSBC
and ICBC operated in UK, and analyze the result of comparison to conduct the appropriate choice
of operation model for ICBC operating

Summary Of The BookThe Guest By Albert Camus
During the mid twentieth century, Algeria was trying to gain independence from France. It was
writers like Albert Camus who gave the world of taste of what was happening in their country at
that time through literature. He used knowledge and experiences to create stories and plays that
captured Alergia and the period of war they were in. Camus dominated the mid twentieth century
intellectually and artistically. Albert Camusgrew up with a strict belief in human freedom, which is
evident through his short story The Guest.
Growing up Albert Camus did not have an ordinary life. His family was not as fortunate as other
families. He grew up poor and was raised solely by his mother due to his father dying during
World War I. He was born in French Algeria. His mother was of Spanish descent and his father
was from France (Heims). Camus never let this be a disadvantage to his career or interfere with it.
He said Poverty was never a misfortune for me: it was radiant with light. Even my revolts were
brilliant with sunshine. They were almost always....revolts for everyone, so that life might be lifted
into that light (Heims). He used this through his career and it shows through his works.
During his life, Algeria was at war. Camus was torn apart personally and intellectually by this
war. He was from Spanish and French descent, however he grew up in Algeria (Taylor). At this
time it was still a French colony and Algeria was part of France for over a hundred years. Muslims

Changing the Target Audience in Retail Sales
On average, middle aged consumers devote 39 percent of their retail expenditure to department
store products and services, while for younger consumers the average is only 25 percent. Since the
number of middle aged people will increase dramatically within the next decade, department stores
can expect retail sales to increase significantly during that period. Furthermore, to take advantage of
the trend, these stores should begin to replace some of those products intended to attract the
younger consumer with products intended to attract the middle aged consumer. Essay 1: The
argument that department retail sales will increase in the next 10 years and thus department stores

Ultimately, the argument might have been strengthened by making it clear that the business
volumes of both types of consumers are the same and comparable, that the increase of a certain
type of consumers are correlated with the increase of the retail sales, and that the growth rate of the
younger consumers are the same as that of the middle aged consumers. Essay 3: Based on an
expected increase in the number of middle aged people during the next decade, the author predicts
that retail sales at department stores will increase significantly over the next ten years. To bolster
this prediction, the author cites statistics showing that middle aged people devote a much higher
percentage of their retail expenditure to department store services and products than younger
consumers do. Since the number of middle aged consumers is on the rise and since they spend
more than younger people on department store goods and services, the author further recommends
that department stores begin to adjust their inventories to capitalize on this trend. Specifically, it is
recommended that department stores increase their inventory of products aimed at middle aged
consumers and decrease their inventory of products aimed at younger consumers. This argument is
problematic for two reasons. First, an increase in the number of middle aged people does not

China s One-Child Policy Analysis
A greater population means greater manpower (Mao qtd. in Fitzpatrick). Mao highlights the
importance of childbearing during his infamous reign over the Communist Party in China. The
Great Leap Forward in 1958 was Mao s plan to make China great again. However, his plan leads
the country in turmoil because a famine fell upon the country due to overpopulation and citizens
were dying daily in the countryside. His encouraging quote, Of all things in the world, people are
the most precious, became a meaningless statement when China s One Child Policywas

Parents hold low expectations for their daughters and teach them to to be obedient at a young age
because sons were seen as a greater asset. Filial piety, the important virtue and primary duty of
respect, obedience, and care for one s parents and elderly family members, plays a key role in a
parent s preference for males (Dictionary.com). Daughters are usually married off, whereas sons
not only carry on the family s household name, but are expected to take care of their parents in the
future. It is a repaid debt for the amount of work parents put into providing food, shelter, clothes,
and education. Although, it is expected of parents to care for their children, China only allows one
child per family unless the parents are granted a permit. Therefore, parents continue to exercise sex
selective abortion because of filial piety and the mindset that sons dominate over daughters. In
Chinese, filial piety is expressed by the character еќ (pinyin: xiГ o). The character xiao is made up
of an upper and a lower part. The first part is derived from the character lao (иЂЃ,pinyin: lЗЋo),
which means old . The second part is the character еђ (pinyin: zi), which means son (Teon, China
journal). The favoritism of males over females is rooted back to the term itself; hence why parents
believe that the amount of time and money spent, should be invested on a

What are the three primary methods for implementing security on this network, as well as the advantages and disadvantages each? WEP is an older security protocol for wireless networks that encrypts transmitted data. WEP uses a security code chosen during configuration called a WEP key, which uses a sequence of hexadecimal digits. WEP keys can be formed in different lengths depending on the type of WEP encryption being utilized. However it is generally not recommended to use WEP especially when we re talking about networks that need more advanced security. The biggest disadvantage found with WEP is really it s main weakness, a skilled hacker could actually crack the security key within a matter of minutes using special software. She is the wife of a New Orleans businessman. She is not content with her marriage and the lifestyle that she must conform to. She changes from her role as a devoted wife and mother to a woman who becomes engrossed in discovering her own identity. It is Mademoiselle who influences her to become awakened in such a way. However this very awakening will be her downfall. She will then begin to isolate herself from those around her and eventually choose suicide as an escape. A main factor towards the development of Ednawould be Mademoiselle Reiz. Her influence plays a vital role towards her awakening and change to her life style. From the moment she heard Reiz play she had begun to be influenced. The very first chords Mademoiselle Reisz struck on the piano sent a keen tremor down Mrs. Pontellier s spinal column. It was not the first time she had heard an artist at the piano. Perhaps it was the first time she was ready, perhaps the first time her being was tempered to take an impress of the abiding truth. (Chopin 29) . Essay about Film Versions of Shakespeare Comedies Film Versions of Shakespeare Comedies Shakespearean plays are complex, intricate pieces of work in which a diverse range of interpretations and readings can be made. This is particularly true of his comedies, where the light hearted humour is often offset by darker, more serious undertones. In adapting these comedies it is for the director in the cinematic context to decide how to interpret the play and which elements are privileged and which are suppressed. This variance in interpretation is exemplified in comparing two of the more recent cinematic adaptations of Shakespeare s comedies, Trevor Nunn s Twelfth Night and Kenneth Branagh s A Much Ado About Nothing [ Much Ado ]. This action is the first imperative step that leads to the undoing of several characters, primarily Malvolio. It is essentially Malvolio s ultimate narcissism that allows the other characters to easily plot his demise . Nunn s adaptation of Feste is not dissimilar to Malvolio with his interpretation of the professional clown proving persuasive because the fool presents wise insights into the complicated web of love that many principal characters become entwined with. His ability to suggest that love is a game, that lovers often love to love, and that love can be almost blind, are important themes to the attraction and comedy of the film. However Nunn utilises Feste above the scope of the comedic, with his poignant insights reminding the audience that this film is in fact dealing with serious issues and at times, the deeper, disturbing, side of love. In Ben Kingsley s moving performance, Feste becomes an outsider as a man who lives alone away from Olivia s house yet somehow witnesses all that occurs amongst the characters and provides some telling insights. This is illustrated when he shows Olivia why take away the fool could mean take away the lady, arguing not only to save his job but also out of a deep compassion for Olivia s grief over her brother s death, and a desire to show why she need not commit ... Gabrielle experienced aphasia (a language disorder that stops communication), but she participated in music therapy for healing. She learned how to think straightforwardly by matching the lyrics of the song to the rhythm and the melody. In the right side of the brain, singing abilities occur, but on the left side people can work around the injury by dropping the melody after they sing their thoughts (Harvard). Eventually, due to this music therapyprocess, Gabrielle recovered and got her speech ability back. Even though music is used everyday as entertainment, it can also be used as a treatment option to help people. Music therapyhas been able to help people communicate and it has recovered speech and hearing imparities. It is quiet possible that after downloading a particular web page, the local copy of the page residing in the repository of the web pages becomes obsolete compared to the copy on the web. Therefore a need arises to update the database of web pages. Once a decision has been taken to update the pages, it should be ensured that minimal resources are used in the process. Updating only those elements of the database, which have actually undergone a change, can do this. Importance of web pages to be downloaded has been discussed in the above section. It also checks whether the page is already there in the database or not and lowers its priority value if it is referred rather frequently. In this section, we discuss some algorithms to derive certain parameters, which can help in deriving the fact whether the page has changed, or not. These parameters will be calculated at the time of page parsing. When the client again counters the same URL, it just calculates the code by parsing the page without downloading the page and compares it to the current parameters. If changes in parameters are detected, it is concluded that the page has changed and needs to be downloaded again. Otherwise the URL is discarded immediately without further processing. Food as a Way to Maintain and Find Identity in the Diaspora As people migrate to a foreign country, they often look for ways to connect culturally with their new home country. Unfortunately, sometimes immigrants have trouble dealing with an identity crisis, either identifying with their old culture or with their new culture. The dualists view is based off of the fact that there is more to our brain and ourselves than just the physical aspect, the soulstrongly supports this claim. Materialism argues against the duelists because they only believe in the physical component of the world, in their eyes a soul does not exist. Lastly, in the psychological view, John Locke implemented memory into personal identity. Leibniz and Reid challenged Locke s ideas and came up with a reasonable conclusion. Personal identity can be defined is through identity theft, but it is the central elements of how someone perceives themselves to determine who they actually are. One is that a single soul, one and the same, has been with this body I call mine since it was born. The other is that one soul was associated with it until five years ago and then another, psychologically similar, inheriting all the old memories and beliefs, took over. A third hypothesis is that every five years a new soul takes over. A fourth is that every five minutes a new soul takes over Weirob views souls by being able to move from one body to the next without us knowing, the duelists strongly disagree with this theory. ... Throughout the Story Scars of Sweet Paradise The Life and Times of Janis Joplin, Alice Echols emphasizes where she was moving towards in her book. Whereas mentioned within the book it seemed that her relatives/ close friends grew weary of authors coming to them and interviewing about Janis Joplin. But in the end Echols agreed that she would not hide or remove anything to truly show how much pain Janis Joplin was in. Janis did not start off as the singer we know her today. Her childhood, teen age years, as well as her adult life is what I will be discussing is what I will discuss because in the end they were a cause and effect that led her to become a victim of the 60 s. At the beginning of the story, Echols proclaims how Janis Joplin came to be ranging from her parents meeting and settling down to the industrial Port ArthurJanis grew up in. Janis Joplin along with her music gave an impression that she had a rough childhood. But contrary to her legend, Janis didn t start out feeling like a nobody in Port Arthur. (pg. 9). Erving Goffman was one of the most important Sociologists in the 20th century who focussed his study on aspects of social life. His parents were Jewish and part of the group of Ukrainians who moved to Canada before the beginning of the First World War. He also implies how an individual will be focussed on making a favourable show of him (a good impression) which gives another explanation to why humans can be seen as actors in situations of social interaction, they act how they think the audience (observers) want them to act. To summarise his chapter on presentation Goffman s primary assumption is that individuals differ not by their specific qualities, but by the situations they find themselves in to which they adopt different roles to perform for the observer . For this work Goffman gained inspiration from his own personal experiences, as his wife struggled with mental illness and he chose to travel to the Shetland Islands to study the interaction in their society. His wife s illness may have shaped his argument as another key piece of his work was Asylums where he carried out fieldwork in a hospital where he wished to look at the social world of an inmate. In his findings he was very critical and stated how behaviour that was deemed out of the ordinary was simply someone not conforming to the rules and expectations of society. If those rules or norms/values are broken that person would be viewed as an outsider and therefore displays an inability to play the role of an actor . • 42. Character Analysis Of Whistling Vivaldi The focal subject of Whistling Vivaldi is character, and, moreover, the distinctive ways individuals react to each other s personalities. Amid his times of research into social brain science, Claude Steele has considered a wide range of types of character, including, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, social introduction, class, and age. One of the premises of his exploration is that individuals will definitely judge each other on the premise of their personality. Moreover, Steele contends that each one of a kind personality has a related generalization a sort of short hand for seeing how individuals with that character will act. Stereotyping is, obviously, a typical type of extremism. For instance, a math teacher who expect that a female understudywon t be ready to comprehend the material is utilizing a sexist generalization that ladies aren t great at math to judge the understudy s conduct. Steele indicates how stereotyping, and the danger of being stereotyped, can apply an immense impact on various individuals conduct. Ostensibly Steele s most critical knowledge about stereotyping is that the consciousness of generalizations (and especially the dread of being stereotyped) can be more capable than an unequivocal instance of stereotyping. Quite a bit of Steele s examination is revolved around the dread of being stereotyped or, put another route, of satisfying a generalization, especially in a college setting. For instance, Steele and his partners sorted out trials in which high contrast Stanford understudies were made a request to take a troublesome test. Half of the understudies were informed that the exam measured insight, while the other half were told the exam was an analytic test, and not organized to gauge knowledge. Steele found that dark understudies who d been informed that the exam measured knowledge did more awful than white understudies who d gotten a similar data. In any case, dark understudies who d been told the exam didn t quantify insight performed at an indistinguishable level from their white partners. Steele translates his investigations to recommend that dark understudies dread of affirming a contemptible generalization in particular, that dark individuals are less wise than white ... The story starts off with a son, a recent college graduate who currently sells typewriters, escorting his mom on the bus to her exercise classes. Throughout the whole story it gives many hints towards the son, Julian s irritation of his mother. The mother would brag about how her grandfather owned slaves at a plantation, and would speak out loud to other strangers how she was glad that the bus she was hopping on didn t have any black peopleon it. It was very clear in the story that Julian s mother was racist but Julian didn t feel the same way about African Americans. Julian actually wanted to embrace black people and wanted to know more about them. • 46. The Constraints Of Constraint Management A constraint is anything that limits a system from achieving higher performance relative to its goal. Constraint management seeks to help managers at all levels of an organization. It ensures that they maintain proper focus on the factors that are most critical to overall success of system constraints. ConstraintManagement efforts can immediately resolve extremely negative effects from machine, labor, and process inefficiencies, and have the ability to fund an entire transition to lean through substantial increases in throughput. There are three rules to constraint management. They are identifying system constraints, exploiting the constraint, and improving the constraint gaps. A business owner or supervisor using the constraint model of management can t focus employees on system constraints without first identifying those constraints. Naming the constraints that are integral to a company s success, including company work policies and manufacturing standards, sets up clear expectations for employees regarding performance and productivity. Exploiting the constraint is the process by which a company maximizes profit through use of a given system constraint. Tying the completion of project steps by nonconstrained resources to completion by constrained resources improves operational efficiency and closes gaps in schedules. (Lister, 2016). Badgers are one of the most well known animals in Britain; hence the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 was designed to protect them (Natural England). However, tuberculosis was discovered in badgers as a result of Mycobacterium bovis (Muirhead et al., 1974). Till this day, some argue that badgers are a significant source of infection for cattle, which raises a concern for the society (Krebs, 1997). Therefore, it raises the issue of whether trials to test the efficacy of badger culling in control of bovine tuberculosis should be permitted. The culling of badgers disrupts the structure of their social group, which leads to a widespread of tuberculosis as they move further away to establish new groups (Briggs, 2012). As a result, there is an increase in incidence outside areas where badgers were not culled. Consequently, people are relying on vaccinations and even the government in Devon is providing funds to farmers who are in areas of high risk (Jones, 2013). The vaccination project in Gloucestershire has been very successful and in one year it has already immunised 998 badgers. Additionally, improving biosecurity could decrease transmission by preventing badgers from entering farms and coming into contact with cattle (Briggs, 2012). Discussion Even though vaccinations are expensive and require a lot of effort, rather than immunising badgers, cattle would relatively cost less and still be successful in controlling bovine tuberculosis (Jones, 2013). However, at the moment the legislation of the European Union bans the vaccination of cattle because checking for infection in the animals would become challenging (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs). Farmers need a solution to the problem immediately and they cannot wait for ten years to abolish the ban as incidents in cattle herds are rising increasingly over the past few years (Briggs, 2012). Summary Of Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother In Patrick Goldstein s response to Amy Chua s book Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, he makes the argument that while earning a degree or graduating summa cum laude is critical to success for some people. Many of today s wealthiest, most innovative people either dropped out or did not go to college. Rather, they learned through informal experience, working their way from the absolute bottom, up to becoming universally respected millionaires and billionaires. Goldstein analyzes Chua s definition of the word success; to be top of the class, to go to an Ivy League school, and to get a great paying job. He compares success to show biz and Hollywood, a town built by mostly uneducated millionaires. He challenges Chua to see a different perspective on the means of becoming successful. Goldstein mentions Chua s discussion with former president of Harvard UniversityLarry Summers at a past World Economic Forum in Switzerland. Summers argued that the two Harvard students that have had the most impact on the world both dropped out of the school (Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg). Goldstein asserts that they didn t get to the top of their industries by book learning. Their knowledge extended beyond the classroom, learning in a way that Chua would consider unorthodox or weak. Gates and Zuckerberg became billionaires partially because of their ideas, but a big part of their success was their ability to network with their peers or big companies.
