A Comparison of Two Commencement Speeches Essay
Graduating from school is only one of the essential tools for a young person to have a successful life.
A person endures many long years of schooling, and then the graduation day finally arrives. That
special day is one of the most momentous days in a young student s life. Happiness and sadness are
the two emotions a person will feel on that special day. A student will experience happiness because of
a significant milestone that was completed in the student s life. The sad emotions will arise because of
a terrifying new chapter in the book of life that is about to begin. Both Bradley Whitford and His
Holiness the Dalai Lama give their commencement speeches by using humor to relax the mood of the
crowd, making light of their fame, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, both of the speakers incorporate their fame to try and get a meaningful message across to the
young people before going out into the real world. Being famous does not mean that you are a perfect
person without flaws, and fame takes hard work and dedication. Whitford talks about why in the
world, the college would opt instead for a glorified circus clown from a television show (1). By
poking fun at himself and not acting superior, he is letting the audience know that everyone is equal.
Whitford establishes a common ground with the students, and it makes the students feel comfortable
listening to his words and advice. Whitford talks about how he only has two areas of expertise
reproduction and acting (2). That means that all people have an area in their lives where they can be
considered an expert. The Dalai Lama expresses to the students that he will try and speak directly
through broken English (1). Immediately that tells the graduating class that the Dalai Lama is not
perfect, and he has to work hard for his place in society. His English was not perfect, but he essentially
told the students with courage anything is possible. Some people look up to famous people, but both
speakers try and establish themselves as ordinary people trying to find success in their lives.
Incorporating their faults into the speeches lets the graduates know that it takes dedication and hard
work to achieve success. Even imperfect people can have what it takes to find a job that

When Theodore Roosevelt Saved Football Summary
In his historical article When Theodore Roosevelt Saved Football , Bruce Watson evaluates the
brutality that often occurred in 20th century football and how Theodore Roosevelt influenced the
safety procedures currently enforced in modem day competition. Although being respected by the 26th
president, Roosevelt himself was never an active football player; however, he was influenced by his
respect for the game and his own son s lethal experiences who was knocked unconscious. At the time,
Injuries had been occurring at alarming rates with a total of 45 men dying at the hands of fans
entertained by foul play. Major institutions including Harvard, Yale, and Princeton were split between
pro and anti factions against the sport. Consequently, Roosevelt

To analyse the objectives of this study further, interview questions were ready for opinion leaders,
which include journalists, staffs of the management team and PR practitioners. Only key sentences or
words of discussion were chosen due to the word limitation, the full translated transcripts are attached
at Appendix B. The findings of interview have three parts, which related to the three research
questions.
A: For the question of the impact of opinion leaders on Weibo, the viewpoints from interviewees all
admitted the leading roles of opinion leaders, but their influences are limited.

Exhibit Analysis Upon entering the exhibit the viewers will be presented with information that shows
the immense diversity within the continent of Africa; this is shown through pictures. It is important to
equip the viewers with general knowledge of Africa so they can go through the exhibit with a basic
foundational understanding. The overall topic of the exhibit is the promotion of children s rights
through the ACRWC s Articles 15 17. The Articles are the three major sub themes; the right to work,
health, and education. These three specific articles were chosen because of the impact they play in the
development of African children. The right to education is the focal point of the sample module. The

These three sub themes were chosen because they each play a role in educating African children. The
three sub themes provide a narrow focus on the overall right to education in Africa. The first two
pictures included in the sub theme access to education are pictures which represent the overcrowding
of classrooms. These pictures are included because according to Schanzenbach (2014) class size can
be correlated to future student outcomes. The smaller the student to teacher ratio is the better the
future outcome of the individual child. The following two pictures are included to further the
understanding of access to education in relation to safety. There are many safety factors that can
impact a child s education. Safety concerns are one of the main reasons children are not attending
school or are found underachieving (Asante Africa Foundation, 2013). The last picture of this sub
category is included to help visualize how many children in sub Sahara Africa are not attending school
due to an unstable country. Poirier (2012) mentions how conflicted countries in Africa produce major
damage to public infrastructures, and contribute to the displacement of populations. Armed conflicts
heavily impact the enrolment rates of children in school. In 2009, 27 million people worldwide were
displaced due to armed conflicts of this 27 million, 11.6 million people were in 21 African countries
(Poirier, 2012). Thus, accenting the impact violence has on accessing education. This should impact

Examples Of Semiotics Of The Kitchen
Semiotics of the kitchen, semiotics means the study of signs and symbols and their use or
interpretation. Constant tempo and cinematography picks the curiosity of audiences mind for the film.
Martha Rosler in this short film speaks the name of the object and using body language to show how
the object works. Each object has it own usage and could be use in a mere strength to carry out its
function well. However in the film we could see the extreme strength exerted to show how an object
could be used in a harmful way. The function of the objects now is twisted and becomes a deadly

of the background music. Unlike Semiotics of the kitchen, that we could conclude the mood through
the energy in ones speech; Todd Haynes direct it without any dialogue but background sounds and
music to make us feel the isolated mood of one. One of the examples of background sounds that leave
a great impression on me was the scene when she get choke by the fumes; the sound of the car moving
when her window was down, the sound of her closing up the car window and her serious continuous
coughing. In that scene there was no speech and only background noise, this engages the audience as a
part of the scene itself. The setting of sets and props were simple that further the isolation of a person

Re reading the post that I shared, the one that came in from Detroit via The Guardian, Pimp My Bike,
I thought about the city of Baton Rouge. In the article from Detroit the author pointed out the
diversified group of participants at the rides that they put on, and how much fun was had by all. In my
travels around Baton Rouge I, have noted the diversity of the cycling community in our fair city. Of
those who use a bike daily, I have noted that there are those who obviously have little choice but to
use a bike or walk for transportation. There are those who use a bike in conjunction with public transit

There is a bike out there for anyone and everyone that wants to get out there and have some fun, get a
little exercise, and fresh air. There is no rule that says that you should become an all day, everyday
cyclist. Being a weekend rider or leisure cyclist is great fun, you have a hobby, you are getting some
exercise and having a good time at it. Commuting to work or school is not something that everyone
can do. Those of us who are fortunate, enough to be able to do so, know how lucky we are. Bike
riding is a privilege. Those of us who ride, and are involved in the advocacy movement are more than
aware of how it is a precarious situation. On the one hand, we have those who would support us in
power to make the decisions that will make it easier and safer to walk and ride a bike in Baton Rouge.
On the other hand, there are those who think that bikes are for kids and should be kept off the streets
period. If you ask most police officers what the laws are about bicycles and the roads you would
probably find out that a lot of them don t know. Do bikes belong on the roads or the sidewalks? In
truth, bikes are breaking the law by riding on the sidewalks, yet the police do not enforce this law.
That it is a good thing because there are places in Baton Rouge where riding a bike in traffic, on the
street is the equivalent of having a death

Positive And Negative Effects Of E-Learning
A lot of people are heading to E learning. E learning is a short form of internet learning. That means if
the person want to have E learning he should ably online. E leaning is the newest way of education in
this century. So in the last few years a lot of people start to get their learning online. E learning offers

How Did Marco Polo Affect The Economy
Marco Polo
In the Start of the 13th century one merchant, Marco Polo, made his extensive voyage from the
flourishing Europe to the New empire of the Mongols that was continuing to expand and economy
was thriving. As the Mongols began the new Silk Road stretching from Europe to Asia, for the first
time the two empires were connected. Marco Polo was exposed to this new world and was surprised in
all the extravagant architecture, intimidating armies, and the complexities of their trading world
(Marco Polo, p. 7). Marco Polo was a European merchant, whose experiences in Asia were interpreted
in economic terms.

trees to be precise, from the mulberry trees... then it is crumbled and pounded and flattened out with
the aid of glue into sheets like sheets of cotton paper, which are all black. When made, they are cut up
into rectangles of assorted sizes, longer that they broad. Marco Polo continues to describe how the
assorted sizes determine the different worth with a seal of the Great Khan on each of them (Marco
Polo, p. 122). This exchange of this paper money was exchanged throughout the Mongolian empire,
And I assure you that all the peoples and populations who are subject to his rule are perfectly willing
to accept these papers in payment, since wherever they go they pay in the same currency, whether for
goods or for pearls or precious stones or gold or silver (Marco Polo, p. 123). Marco Polo talks about
how the Khan can get his entire to fully accept his trade of paper money throughout the entire empire.
This is an important to note because it was the first time that Marco Polo have heard the idea of paper
money instead of coins and was a new idea to him. People could exchange the paper money for
anything with just the idea of its worth behind the money which was used throughout the entire

The Reality Of War By Ambrose Bierce
The Reality of War
Death; destruction; crawling, bloody men without jaws; and a child in the middle of it is just a glimpse
of the grotesque short narrative Chickamauga by Ambrose Bierce. Chickamauga Creek is an area near
Chattanooga, Tennessee and northwestern Georgia, plagued by war, suffering, and bloodshed from the
Civil War (Bohannon). Bierce served in the Union Army during the American Civil War (Campbell).
Many Americans then, and today, romanticize war with glory, heroism, and patriotism. Bierce defied
literary status quo, creating graphic accounts of war, in an age of sentimentalism and melodrama
(Morris). Lesser publicized were the perspectives, thoughts, and realities of the soldiers after serving

The irrational mindset of leaders and generals in the Civil War led to needless bloodshed.
Once the boy comes upon the soldiers retreating from battle, he pretends to lead them onward with his
sword. The fact that he is pretending to lead them is significant in and of itself. Young men are thrown
into war, and move up the ranks quickly due to causalities. They are often young and inexperienced,
and catapulted into roles of leadership. Not having the experience to know how to be a leader, they
pretend to be the leaders in the overdramatized, delusional war tales of heroism and patriotism, just as
the boy did. He even tries to play with the soldiers, as they reminded him of the painted clown whom
he had seen last summer in the circus (Bierce, 58 59). Just as inexperienced young officers enter the
war with delusions of grandeur, oblivious of the realities of war, the boy is also oblivious of the
grotesque situation he has come upon. The boy eventually found his way back to his home, which he
found destroyed. Many of the leaders of the Civil War led their men across their own country, bruised,
bloodied and battered, only to return to their own homes, which were destroyed by war, as well.
The boy looks at the creeping, bloodied men, and draws a connection to circus clowns, and his father s
slaves who would creep upon their hands and knees for his amusement (Bierce 59). The boy thought

Negative Effects Of Caffeine
Background Research Is Caffeine good or bad for living organisms? This is a topic that has been
debated all around the world. Plants are essential to life on earth because of their ability to make food.
They make food by using a process called photosynthesis. Some plants can also produce caffeine on
their own. Caffeine speeds up regeneration in Planaria. Caffeine is used to stimulate the central
nervous system. Caffeine is consumed in large quantities daily, but it can have both positive and

Potassium is also a key element for plants to maintain photosynthesis. However, it also helps limit

School Life In High School
When I think about my freshman year to my junior year there are things that have been the same and
things that have been different. I have experienced a lot in the couple years I have been at senior, and I
have lots to say about the high school life.
The one thing that I would say never changed and kept the ram fam together is Nasty Nation. Nasty
Nation is what we call ourselves at games and many different activities. We have a twitter page that is
called Nasty Nation. I followed it my freshman year and it told me when the games were, what the
theme was and if I didn t go to the game they would post the score as the game is going on. The games
were always my favorite thing to go to in high school. I would dress up to my fullest ability and cheer
on the rams.
Another thing that never changed was the level of stress I had each year. Between homework, work,
school, family, friends, and a boyfriend life was not the easiest sometimes. I have been super happy,
anger, and I have cried at least accouple times in the past three years from being here. I m not going to
lie I had come to the point accouple times where I wanted to just give up and drop out, but I knew that
would not be a very smart thing to do. The amount of stress coming into high school was there and
coming out it s still going to be there.
The last thing that never truly changed was the people that go to Dubuque Senior High school. I am

What Does Disillusionment Of Ten O Clock Mean
Imagination is a crucial part of humanity. From the depths of the human mind, brilliant ideas can
emerge. The Disillusionment of Ten O Clock by Wallace Stevens, dramatizes how the average person
has lost all sense of imagination. The speaker focuses to comment on the white night gowns of the
people being observing, highlighting how typical and mundane their lives have become (2). The poem
then carries on to explain how they could have nightgowns that are purple with green rings,/Or green
with yellow rings or adorned with decorative trim, but the people still choose to wear the same, white
nightgowns (4 5). Finally, the poem concludes with the speaker saying that the people will not have
extravagant dreams; but sailors in their drunken states will dream vividly. The poem urges to reader to

Stevens, again, was very meticulous in using both a pirate and red weather. The pirate is the antithesis
of the people he is focusing on. Pirates are adventurous, bold, and place their faith in abstract concepts
like mermaids and treasure maps. They are not haunted by houses or suburbia (1). Pirates are free to
imagine what they want and when. The red weather part of the poem is Stevens s way of exploring the
pirate s own imagination. Since he is free to allow his mind to roam, he can come up with obscure
ideas like red weather. It does not make sense that the weather is red, but that is the point. The reader
is supposed to question why the weather now has color, and how. It is the transitional point from
dreaming only in white, to suddenly experiencing bright color. Disillusionment of Ten o clock reaches
out to the reader s inner child. It speaks to the part of the reader that wants to create something. It
urges them to move past trivial adulthood and get in touch with the imaginative part of

Solar Energy Advantages And Disadvantages
Solar energy can be use today in a variety of ways. Probably because today, more and more people are
understanding the advantages of solar energy as our solar technology increases and the cost of fossil
fuels rises. Solar energy systems today can now used to power homes, cars, appliances in a ways of
like Photovoltaic panels, Heating water, Lighting etc. Solar Photovoltaic panels The most common
form of solar energy used today are photovoltaic solar panels, which absorb the sun s light to create
electricity. These solar panels can be attached to homes as a primary or secondary source of electric
power. They can also be used for small appliances and machines which only need small amounts of
electricity for use. Large scale photovoltaic panel plants have also been constructed to provide power
to many homes. Solar cels convert sunlight directly into electricity. Solar cells are often used to power
calculators and watches. They are made of semiconducting materials similar to those used in computer
chips. When sunlight is absorbed by these materials, the solar energy knocks electrons loose from
their atoms, allows the electrons to flow through the material to produce electricity. This process of
converting light (photons) to electricity (voltage) is called the photovoltaic(PV)effect. Solar cells are
typically combined into modules that hold about 40 cells; a number of these modules are mounted in
PV arrays that can measure up to several meters on a side. These flat plate PV arrays can be mounted
at a fixed angle facing south, or they can be mounted on a tracking device that follows the sun,
allowing them to capture the most sunlight over the course of a day. Several connected PV arrays can
provide enough power for a household; for large electric utility or industrial applications, hundreds of
arrays can be interconnected to form a single, large PV system. Solar lighting One of the easiest way
to improve home efficiency is to add outdoor solar lighting to your property. Unlike traditional
exterior lights, solar lighting requires no complicated setup as the lights are wireless and harness
sunlight during the day to circumvent the need for grid supplied electricity at night. Though solar
lights are not yet as

Equal Opportunity Laws Title Vii Essay
Equal Opportunity Laws Title VII The first aspect of Human Resource that will be addressed is equal
opportunity and the laws that go along with it. There were several equal opportunity laws enacted
from 1964 to 1991. 2 The first of these was Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act which states that an
employer cannot discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national original with respect
to employment (Dessler, 2013). 3 Title VII applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including
state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and to labor organizations, as well
as to the federal government. 4 Title VII also prohibits employment decisions based on stereotypes
and assumptions about abilities, traits, or the performance of individuals of certain racial groups.
According to Society for Human Resource Management, it states that, possible criminal practices
include soliciting applications only from sources in which all or most potential workers are of the
same race or color; requiring applicants to have a certain educational background that is not important

Social pressures change as time passes, therefore it is interesting to see how these three texts whom
differ by almost four hundred years perceive society and the effect this has on the protagonists;
Shakespeare s King Lear which was first performed in 1606 during the Jacobean era, presents a
patriarchal society. Whilst, Arthur Miller uses the characters in Death of a salesman to show the failure
of the American dream during the golden era of America in the late 40 s. The American Dream was a
set of ideals which suggested that anyone in the US could be successful through hard work, and had
the potential to live a happy life. The sense of the deterioration in the equality of opportunities links to

Victimization Of The Female Dancer In Battle Royal
Victimization of the Female Dancer in Battle Royal
In Ralph Ellison s Battle Royal , two different victims of the prominent white men are portrayed: the
greater known victim of the African American boys and the lesser female dancer. Both of these victim
groups are relevant to the story, however one gets more recognition than the other. In the story, Ellison
identifies racism and bigotry exerted by the white men onto the African American boys in a fist fight
and electric rug scene. Before the physical torture of the boys, Ellison brings attention to the sexism
and degrading actions toward a naked female dancer. The evils endured by the boys and the dancer are
equally bad in their own right, although the female dancer s are subdued. The female dancer endured
the derogatory ideas of the men, their forcefulness, and their different emotional traumas.
The female dancer first falls victim to the prominent white men and the African American boys in the
derogatory ideas and thoughts they are having. Before the physical actions of the men, the dancer was
already a victim by their degrading thoughts and lustful feelings. The men looked at her like she was a
circus kewpie doll , already likening her to a toy for their amusement making her nonhuman to them
(270). By likening her to a kewpie doll, they could rationalize their animalistic thoughts, making their
feelings seems appropriate. By viewing her as inanimate, they allow themselves to continue their lewd
thoughts about her

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Saves Lives!
Automated External Defibrillators (AED) can be used by the untrained bystander, even if they have
never seen or used the machine before. This machine has both voice and visual instructions; therefore,
there is no reason to be intimidated. If you see a person suddenly collapse, pass out, or find someone
unconscious, having a general knowledge of how an AED machine functions, could save their life.
Before starting AED or any life saving measure, confirm that the person is unable to respond by
shouting, shaking, or pinching on top of their shoulders. If they are unresponsive immediately call or
have a bystander call 911, locate, and retrieve the AED machine. This machine must be used within
minutes of cardiac arrest onset to be effective; therefore, time is of the essence! Try to ascertain how
long the victim has been unconscious. Determine whether they are breathing, and if they have a pulse.
If the victim is breathing they will have a pulse; if they are not breathing or pulse is absent or
irregular, prepare to use the AED once it arrives at the scene. Roll the person on their back, and begin
doing 2 minutes of CPR (30 chest compressions). Once the AED machine is at the scene, make sure
the person isn t lying in or near water. If they are they will need to be moved to a dry area. It is
imperative to stay clear of any type of wetness when delivering shocks water will conduct electricity.

Part 4. Relationship Building Action Plan People skills are instrumental to a leader s success because
they allow leaders to effectively communicate and listen to their employees. They add value to the
organization by creating trust and mutual respect. Leaders with good people skills communicate
effectively, listen to their employees, understand their employees, and their employees trust them. The
leader s performance was severely affected from lack of people skills. Communication, emotional IQ,
and personality were all areas that the leader needed to improve upon. Communication was identified
multiple times in the peer review and evaluation as a deficiency. The leader s lack of communication
directly led to a loss of productivity in the department. Furthermore, employees felt that they were not
being listening to, leading to a loss of moral and trust. Also, the leader was completely oblivious to the
emotions within the department. If the leader would have taken the time to perceive and understand
the employees emotions, they would have been able to identify the issues within the department and
take corrective measures. Also, things would have never gotten this out of hand if the leader had a
better personality. Many of the employees felt the leader was unapproachable and acted better than
they were, causing employees to stop following the leader. The leader follower relationship is
instrumental to fulfilling the strategic plan of the leader. The leader

Babbitt Vs. Sweet Home Case Study
The public policy of the ESA had multiple issues in the case of Babbitt v. Sweet Home Chapter. There
have been legislative issues between the ESA and Congress in regards to the inconsistency of
authority (Jennings, 2010). In addition, the lack of communication between Congress and the FWA
caused discrepancies on how to best protect the habitat (Jennings, 2010). The public policy also has
issues on an economic standpoint due to the cost of resources on the basis to support the ESA or
abolish the Act (Sahr, n.d.).
The argument of the people to recover and preserve endangered species was in fact to keep the ESA
policy. According to Sahr (n.d.) the ESA has been effective with the Act of protecting endangered

How to Satisfy Hunger with Home Cooking for Today
Home cooking offer dishes with exceptional taste and satisfaction. However, modern living often
leaves little time for cooking at home (National Restaurant Association, n.d.). Due to modernization
and adjustments in the lifestyles of many people, the means of complying with the demand of
satisfying their hunger has changed dramatically.
According to a research conducted by the National Restaurant Association (2013), about 33% of the
consumers say that spending in fast food restaurants is an indispensable part in their lifestyles. It is for
the reason that people in this fast phasing world prefer convenience foods that are served very quickly
more than the home cooked meals that take time to prepare. This trend is sustained through the
emergence of a prominent industry the fast food.
Fast food industry is perceived to be an American conception. It is said to first begin in the United
States of America in 1912 with the opening of a simple fast food restaurant called the Automat, which
serve foods and drinks through coin and bill operated vending machines.
The idea of this firm was soon followed and more popularized by the White Castle Restaurant in
Wichita, Kansas in 1916. An article entitled Fast Food (n.d.) said that fast food restaurants have come
a long way when Billy Ingram and Walter Anderson sold hamburgers for five cents apiece, and
launched the first high speed hamburger chain, the White Castle Restaurant.

The Hidden Characteristics Of The Renaissance
The Baroque style is the product of the obsession with perfection from the Renaissance and the
strangeness of the Mannerists. These two periods combine with each other and what you get is the
Baroque. The Renaissance had hidden meanings and complex theologies hidden in their paintings.
The Baroque simplified that formula and made art more accessible to people, no hidden meanings and
no hidden symbols. Not only did it have this but the Baroque just did not simply tell a story but a
moment in time from that story. This moment in time technique not only allowed for some
showmanship in skill but allowed the viewer to take part of the moment with usually and empty space
for the viewer. Because of this does the viewer remain just that, a viewer or do we become part
narrative? This interaction between the viewer and the art is no longer like the outside and miniscule
feeling one gets from looking at the perfection of Renaissance masters. And it is definitely not like the
strange exchange and confusion that comes from the harsh mannerists. But rather, the Baroque offers
the viewer a space in the scene, an interaction. It is often warm and inviting when appropriate and
allows even uneducated people to understand what is going on. The Baroque has more of a human
quality than a divine one. The use of spot lighting by certain artists such as Caravaggio and his
followers allow the story to become the most important and the interaction between the viewer and the
art becomes a story of its

Short Stories Of The Nineteenth Century
Short stories of the nineteenth century are synonymous with Guy de Maupassant who is a master of
irony, plot twists and satire. He is still considered to be one of the greatest short story writers of all
time and a champion of the realist approach to writing. Maupassant was born in Normandy, near
Dieppe, on 5th August, 1850, to well off parents who, however, didn t get along well and eventually
separated in 1863. The separation of his parents caused Maupassant to receive two very different kinds
of upbringings. His debauched father, Gustave de Maupassant, saw no trouble in engaging his son in a
similar life of titillation whereas his mother, Laure Le Poitevin, introduced him to English and Italian
literary classics. He received his early education from his mother and later at a Lyceum. He began
studying law in Paris at the age of nineteen which was cut short by the Franco Prussian war of 1870,
when he enrolled in the army. After his discharge and a period of unrest, Maupassant finally settled
down with a stable job in Civil Service in Paris in 1872. The ennui of his work was comforted by
outdoor activities that include excursions in the countryside, canoe trips down the Seine, and even by
women, often prostitutes. The first stage symptoms of syphilis appeared in 1877 and it would
eventually kill him within the next fifteen years. The elements of his upbringing, like the countryside,
people and traditions are often characterized in his storytelling. His stories, though

Sergei Eisenstein s Bonnie And Clyde
Sergei Eisenstein s film theory often reflects on the capabilities of allowing film editing to create the
essence of the scenes. With the work of Arthur Penn s Bonnie and Clyde viewers see aspects of the
formalist concepts while comparing Eisenstein interpretation of artistic cinematography. In Eisenstein
Cinematic Principle and Ideogram Dialectical Approach the article discusses the way cinematographic
traits help revolutionize the way we view different forms graphically. The article maintains that
cinematography is simply a montage of scenes in frames timed together to create a picturesque feel
that is often left open to interpret by the viewer. The form of the film will associate different

Viewers can see that she is naive, unhappy and pondering her decision to leave home, which is rather
difficult or seen as predictable to express verbally in her room alone. She is also naked in this that
delivers a sense of innocence and adolescence or wanting to experience adulthood. What is
particularly interesting is how Penn uses the bed rails as a prop in this scene as a cinematographic
convention. Penn creates a depictive metaphor about the character physical state when Bonnie holds
onto the rails and looks out solemnly like a prisoner. Viewers can see that she is trapped in a life that is
not stimulating, and that she is longing for some sort of excitement. When the camera zooms in to an
extreme close up of her eyes viewers can see the sudden change of somber to slight curiosity that
cinematography delivers skillfully in the scene. When editing images together that create their own
meanings allows the film to depend on what one sees visually on the screen. This is the purpose of

A Study On The Strategy Estimation
The next strategic estimating method is to undertake the expert judgmental estimation since this
particular project estimation method is driven around taking expert opinion and by understanding the
strategic project requirements.
The results are fast since expert opinion is driven through various elements while accuracy of
estimations is not always certain due to project complexity. The experts are pooled from operations,
business and management team so as to drive the right level of estimation knowledge for any given
project as per the business strategic requirement. The expert judgment estimation is done for relatively
simple and repetitive projects so that there is not much data complexity.

 The cost analysis is done on the basis of various vendors pricing for each of the component or

 The exposes risks are highlighted since each element for project is procured through vendors.
 Drives estimations on the basis of calculating average or better price from number of vendor bid.
The vendor bid analysis suits the need whenever all the material or resources are deployed from third
party vendors and project is managed by internal team. This is one of strategic approach to enable
better efficiency.
3.3.8. Reserve Analysis
This is one of fundamental strategic technique for conducting the estimates on the basis of reserve

uncertainties and risks through using a reserve pool of resources so as to do the best possible
performance deployment.
The reserve set of people enables managing the project since their cost can be relatively low and able
to drive the major project objectives and to meet strategic goals. This approach is used whenever there

Charles Crick And James Watson On The Structure Of The...
In 1962, the Nobel Prize was awarded to Francis Crick and James Watson for formulating the
structure of the complex molecule known as DNA. These discoveries were a direct result of the
accumulation of many scientists earlier analyses and findings of the DNA. Before Watson and Crick
had developed the double helical structure of DNA, indication of this genetic material had been
revealed around the 1850 s. During the century following the first evidence of DNA, subsequent
researchers had been eagerly examining the physical and chemical components of this molecule.
Moreover, scientists such as Erwin Chargaff and Linus Pauling established a scientific foundation of
research for future experts like Watson and Crick to analyze and interpret. The history of science
acknowledges Watson and Crick s findings as an exclusive discovery of their studies. However, the
knowledge required to expose these innovative ideas are a culmination of human events in which
personalities and cultural traditions play major roles (Watson and Stent, 3). Watson s personal account
within The Double Helix introduces the significance of these scientific influences on his research and
discovery of the DNA molecular structure. Without major scientific figures, such as Max Perutz,
Rosalind Franklin, and Linus Pauling, the conceptualization of Watson and Crick s DNA structure
would not have successfully developed as it did in the 1950 s.

The reader is told that Lady Braeburn is a widow as well as a mother of only one child. The reader is
given the implication by Nothando and the previous caregiver, that Lady Braeburn s son, George, does
not have a close relationship with her. This is added to the mystery of her character because the reader
does not know the reason behind their distant relationship. The idea of the reader not knowing as
much about Lady Braeburn as would be expected, is as significant as the things that the reader is
actually given because the mystery of the story is heightened, as well as creating more interest in both
Lady Braeburn s past and the continuing content of the story. She is 96 years old, a treasure trove of
stories that neither I nor anyone else will ever hear. (Mhangami Ruwende 145) The deterioration of
Lady Braeburn s body, could be symbolic of her straining relationship with her son. Lady Braeburn
often cries for reasons which both Nothando and the reader are unaware of. The reader is uncertain of
whether Lady Braeburn s tears are simply crocodile tears in order to seek attention from those around
her, or if she is actually portraying genuine emotion. However, the reader is made to perceive that she
is crying over her past, perhaps she regrets the things she has done in her life which may in turn have
affected her close relationships. Another impression that the reader is given by Nothando is that her

Organic Farming Dangers
The Dangers of Organic Farming (writing prompt 4)
Although there are numerous advantages to organic farming, there is also advantages to modern
industrial farming. The world population has been increasing dramatically each year. In the 1960 s the
world population reached 3 billion, by 2000 the population doubled to 6 billion people. Today, there is
roughly 7.4 billion people around the world. This drastic increase in population needed a drastic
change in food production. To insure there was enough food for the world, there needed to be a better
faster method to producing larger quantities of food. Industrial farming was the solution. Before
industrial farming, farming was on a small scale. Used mainly for feeding the farmers and those in
nearby towns. By using industrial agriculture methods, farmers were capable of creating a large
amount of product while fighting the continuous battle of weeds. Of course this method of farming
had multiple disadvantages. The crops became dependent on the weed killers, the weeds would need
stronger killers each season, the combination of weed killer and pesticides then deprived the soil of
nutrients. All of these devastating negatives transformed into a continuance cycle. Famers needed to
buy both stronger weed killer, and fertilization in order to keep up with the demand of the economy.
As the farmers bought more and more, the prices of the fertilizers and weed killers rose. Meanwhile
the value of their crops plummeted. Looking at all of

Sixth Extinction Research Paper
For as long as the earth has existed, it has gone through remarkable things, and through it all it has
been able to be sustained. First, it was the asteroid, now it is humans. Biologists claim we are in the
age of the sixth extinction; predominantly caused by humans. In this essay, I will be going over how
the destruction of the ecosystem pertains to the sixth extinction caused by industrialization, movement
of species, and human population growth.
Industrialization
Humans have been compared to the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs (National Geographic). The
asteroid scientists claimed killed the dinosaurs was abrupt, and the species of the earth had no idea
about it (National Geographic). This can be compared to the current situation with human s
industrializing the world. Humans have developed innovative ways in how we get objectives
completed. We can freely drive around in vehicles that no one would have ever thought we would
have. We have factories and machines that assist in the construction of homes, buildings, and modern
society. This affects the killing of the ozone layers and the environment of animals.

The more the earth population grows the more resources that are required such as natural resources.
The more the human population expands, the less that animals will have places to inhabit that are truly
wild. Growing human populations have led to increased demand for natural resources, and with a
current world population of more than seven billion people, our demands, many of which require
environmentally damaging practices to fulfill, will continue to grow (NPR).
Conclusion
In conclusion, human activity has led to what scientists have considered the sixth extinction, the sixth

Analysis Of Title VII Of The Civil Rights Act Of 1964

mechanism to ensure equality within the workplace (Fraley, 2013). This case is a violation of Title VII

Movements And Counter Revolutions And Revolutions
Movements and counter movements, revolutions and counter revolutions, this is the story of human

story of the Occupy Movement, while regularly citing Marxist arguments in its critique of neo

This study mainly focuses on issues in databases security and measures taken to solve those issues.
Securing sensitive data from illegal access, theft and forging becomes a big challenge for different
organizations, like government, no government and privates sectors. Encryption of data in client or

Basically the problem is to ensure that semi trusted database is secure or not. [6]

The Threat Of Liberty Equality Based Societies By Alexis...
Threat to Liberty in Equality Based Societies While traveling across the United States, Alexis de
Tocqueville recorded how democracy operates and the roles of its participants in, Democracy in
America. Tocqueville demonstrates his admiration of the American democratic system and Americans
dedication to freedom, equality, and supporting one another. Despite these praises, there is also a
looming danger against liberty in not only America, but in all societies based on equality. The most
imminent threat to liberty in these societies is despotism as it prevents individuals from exercising
their natural freedoms and rights. Tocqueville proposes resolutions to this threat, such as, government
decentralization and civil associations. Despotism flourishes in equal societies due to individuals
isolating themselves and forming a centralized governing institution. As stated by Tocqueville,
Equality places men beside one another without a common bond to hold them. Equality disposes them
not to think of those like themselves... (485). With aristocracies, a society not concerned with equality,
there is a ligature between individuals within each socioeconomic class. For instance, the noblemen
associate with noblemen, while the poor associate with the poor. However, with societies based on
equality, mankind is no longer divided by their means. The wealthy are equal to the poor in rights and
freedoms, but not in monetary wealth. Lacking this unification amongst each other s

United States And The Cold War
Alexander Protivnak
Essay #2
PS 1511
All through the Cold War the United States attempted to contain or squash developments that it saw as
dangers to American financial or security objectives, in Europe, in Asia, in different parts of the
alleged Third World, and at home. Communists, patriots, individual voyagers, neutralists, and activists
for popular government and human rights, at different times, felt American rage in the half century
after 1945. In no spot, be that as it may, did American exertions to attest its hobbies and impede the
will of the local populace happen as seriously or shockingly as in Vietnam. Despite the fact that a
little, immature nation which has been subjected to violence and resistance through the years, not to ...

Many considered these as steps back rather than moving forward. This is an impending doom which
revealed itself early on.
Both Robert Buzzano and Randall Woods present excellent interpretations of American foreign policy
in Vietnam. What we need to look at closely is the goals that are set by the U.S., as well as their
expected goals. When starting our comparison we are forced to realize that John F. Kennedy and
Lyndon B. Johnson had two very different approaches to Vietnam. Many attribute LBJ as the reason
we even went into Vietnam. However what remains is another instance of America trying to protect
the world from communism. Woods tells us that, Johnson was an unbelievably intelligent person. His
capacity to absorb information and analyze it was amazing. He was a very earthy and profane man,
but he also was very much a liberal Christian. This becomes a more popular argument however that
Wood expands on.
At the beginning of Wood s article, he states that LBJ s Christian ideology influenced how he
approached the conflict in South Vietnam. Since the United States stands for democracy, it was
imperative that LBJ follow JFK s lead of protecting the noncommunist Vietnamese. On the off chance
that LBJ didn t fight a

Annotated Bibliography On Vascular Access Essay
Vascular Access
Usually, accessing vascular structures is done through a needle to puncture the vessel percutaneously,
followed by a wire introduced through the needle to secure the vascular access. The needle is then
removed and a sheath is advanced over the wire. Vascular sheaths are hollow structures with a built in
diaphragm to prevent bleeding. Catheters are then placed into and out of the sheath with a minimal
loss of blood.11
Access to the Cardiovascular System
Femoral arterial and venous access is traditionally the method of choice in infancy. The right and/or
the left groins may be used. This port of access provides advantage of being away from the thoracic
region for ease of catheter manipulation away from the radiographic cameras surrounding the child s
thorax. Umbilical arterial and venous access can be used in newborn babies up to 7 days of age. Other
alternative route for arterial access includes: carotid artery, brachial artery, and axillary artery. On the
other hand, alternative venous access includes: internal jugular vein, subclavian vein, axillary vein,
and transhepatic venous access. Alternative vascular access (ARVA) is occasionally required due to
the lack of femoral vascular patency or the need to position the catheter at a particular trajectory not
provided through the traditional femoral access. The use of ARVA is safe and effective for performing
a wide variety of interventions across. In addition, its use may improve the results of selected

No Suger, by Jack Davis
Question Three. The way a play is staged can have a significant effect on the meanings made by the
audience. To what extent have choices n the staging of No Sugar contributed to the meanings you have
made concerning ethnicity and identity. The post colonialist play No Sugar, penned by playwright
Jack Davis in nineteen eighty six, invites the audience to critique (and ultimately condemn) the
ethnocentrism and ideologies supported by white Anglo Saxon Christians in the early nineteen thirties
in Western Australia. The play follows the Millimurra family, of the Nyoongah people, as they
experience racism within the small town of Northam, and are forcefully moved to the Moore River
Native Settlement by non Indigenous officials. The playwright ... Show more content on

The wetjala spaces have square or rectangular walls, and the police station is elevated to symbolise the
colonial valorisation of imperial domination. The sterile setting of courtrooms and offices were
selected by the playwright to signify the Non Indigenous people s intention to possess and dominate
land by building permanent structures to assert their superiority. In this way a dichotomy regarding the
treatment of land is introduced between the two groups. Place identity is an important concept
introduced in No Sugar, which deals with the interaction between how the local environment,
including geographical location, ethnic traditions and family heritage influence the people s lives.
Davis employs stage directions and dialogue to convey the importance of place as a characteristic of
the Nyoongah peoples ethnic and cultural identity. In the beginning of Act Three, Scene One Joe says
[bitterly] to Mary, Burned everything, those bastards!... Come on. I m gunna show you my country.
[Joe picks up his shirt and a billy of water, which he tips on the fire. He leads MARY off into the
darkness.]. These stage directions reveal the significance of place as an aspect of a Nyoongah person s
identity, and the distress experienced if this environment is destroyed. The Nyoongah people s
understanding and appreciation of land is simply portrayed a the stage direction indicating that the

Clean Edge Analysis Essay
Position Statement:
Paramount Health and Beauty wants to launch a new razor into the market currently referred to as
Clean Edge. The project team recommends that the company should position the product as a distinct
mainstream product, dubbing it Clean Edge by Paramount in order to produce growth in sales from
new product innovation. The importance of placing the product in a mainstream position is to
successfully launch an innovative product creating more market share for Paramount and for Clean
Edge to become the most sought out razor in the industry. Failing to take this route and deciding to
position the product in a niche would only give the new product a limited amount of consumers,
preventing Clean Edge from reaching its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clean Edge by Paramount gives customers a clear perception of the advantages of the product without
being concerned about other product categories.
Critique of Rejected Options
There are several reasons why the project team should reject the first option in positioning Clean Edge
in a niche. The first reason concerns the pricing strategy. Placing the product in a niche position would
make the razor more expensive in the retail sense. Catering to the more involved groomers places the
product at a suggested retail price at $12.99. Placing the product at a higher price in the niche position
could only lead Clean Edge Razor to a limited market. Rosenberg suggested placing the product in the
niche position for a year or two; however, this could lead to prevention in attracting a wider customer
base for the product during that time frame.
Another reason Paramount should not place in the niche position is their significantly low marketing
budget compared to their competitors. In just media advertising alone, Radiance spent $16 million on
Naiv. For Clean Edge, the cost for advertising for the niche position would only be $7 million.
Because Radiance is spending more than twice as much on their advertising compared to what
Paramount would spend in the niche position, Radiance would gain an advantage in covering more
ground to promote its product.
As far as product naming is concerned, Paramount

How Does Prospero Meet Caliban
The first mention of Caliban occurs before we meet the character, when Prospero tells Miranda the
story of the damned witch Sycorax, a blue eyed hag was hither brought with child (1.2.269). This hag
s child is Caliban, who Prospero highlights was not honoured with / a human shape. (1.2.283 4). Our
primary knowledge of Caliban other than who his mother is is that he is subhuman, which instantly
labels him as inferior. Having a human shape is an honor that Caliban was not given due to his
parentage. The reader is automatically set up to agree with this opinion and it is uncontested
throughout the play. When we do meet Caliban several lines later, he is addressed by Prospero as slave
(1.2.345) and by Miranda as a savage (1.2.355). As a method of constantly and continually demeaning
him, Caliban is never called by his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prospero and Miranda are both civilized, like the Europeans Montaigne refers to. Caliban, on the other
hand, is more akin to the cannibals whose life Montaigne writes about and lauds. In the essay,
Montaigne argues in favor of the cannibal way of life by asserting its proximity to nature, and nature s
inherent superiority. He compares the cannibals to wild fruit and the Europeans to those that we have
changed artificially and led astray from the common order that we should rather call wild . He states
that the laws of nature still rule [the cannibals] very little corrupted by ours; and they are in such a
state of purity that I am sometimes vexed that they were unknown earlier (153). He hails purity as part
of nature s superiority and the ruling of natural laws as supreme. This brings us back to The Tempest,
where natural laws so clearly rule Caliban. It is no coincidence that the name Caliban is almost an
anagram for the word

Tourette Syndrome Analysis
Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a neurological disorder that involves uncontrollable, repetitive movements
and/or sounds. Tourette s is extremely common, having over 200,000 cases every year in America
alone. TS is usually found in children between ages six and eighteen and can last a life time. Tourette s
is a devastating disorder that can lead to other disorders if not treated properly. Tourette s is usually
associated with foul language, random aggression and harsh blinking. Since Tourette s is usually
found in children and teenagers, many people with TS experience bullying and isolation. Because of
this, some type of therapy is encouraged. There are several clinics and camps for children to help them
cope with the disorder.

Simple vocal tics are sounds that do not form words. Examples of this are throat clearing, or grunting.
Complex vocal tics include shouting, cursing, and repeating words. Over time, these tics are known to
get more and more complex. Grunts turn into words, and words turn into phrases (Gallant, 2013).
Associated Disorders
Tourette Syndrome is usually paired with a number of other medical disorders. Many people
diagnosed with TS also suffer from Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Features of Tourette s include problems with attention, behavior,
sleeping and learning. Sometimes it is hard for a person with Tourette s to focus on what is going on
around them because they are more focused with their tic. Tourette s forces unwanted attention that a
person may not know how or want to deal with. Both of these features can cause problems in school
and a work environment (Gallant, 2013).
Camps and Clinics
Tourette Syndrome Association is a voluntary, nonprofit organization. It was founded for the purpose
of assisting individuals with TS. The association raises funds to encourage and support scientific
research about the disorder. The association promotes understanding of Tourette s and publicizes the
disorder in newspapers, magazines, radio and television (Dornbush,

Soy Sauces In East Asian And Southeast Asian Cultures
Soy sauce is widely used as an important flavouring and has been integrated into the traditional
cuisines of many East Asian and Southeast Asian cultures. Despite their rather similar appearance, soy
sauces made in different cultures and regions are different in taste, consistency, fragrance and
saltiness.
Soy sauce is a salty, brown liquid made from fermented soy beans mixed with some type of roasted
grain such as wheat, barley and rice, injected with a special yeast mold, Aspergillus oryzae and
liberally flavoured with salt. The sauce s consistency can range from very thin to very thick. Flavours

earthy tasting brownish liquids used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dark or old Chinese soy sauce is a dark, thick soy sauce, aged longer and added with molasses to give
it its distinctive look. This variety is mainly used as a table top seasoning, but is also used in cooking.
It has a richer flavour than light soy sauce, but is less salty.
Chinese soy sauce is made with a lower proportion of wheat than the lighter Japanese soy sauce.
Besides, Japanese style soy sauces tend to be clearer and thinner than Chinese soy sauces. Light soy
sauce from Japan has a thinner consistency and a saltier flavour than the darker varieties. It is
preferred when a darker sauce will ruin the appearance of a dish, or when a lighter flavour is sought,
especially when serving seafood.
Tamari is a deeply coloured Japanese soy sauce which has a rich texture and intense flavour. It
contains little or no wheat. Wheat free tamari can be used by people with gluten intolerance. It is the
original Japanese soy sauce, as its recipe is closest to the soy sauce originally introduced to Japan
from China. With a higher soybean content, tamari has a stronger flavour and is ideally used as a

Differences Between Alexander Hamilton And Aaron Burr
The course of events shaped Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr s lives in different ways along with
competing with one another. Folks might assume that Hamilton and Burr were complete opposites but
surprisingly, they were the same in various ways which led to multiple rivalries between them.
Contemplate the old adage, opposites attract, and like repel. (Hamilton vs. Burr) Alexander Hamilton
and Aaron Burr s family background might have caused some resentment between them. Hamilton
simply shaped his own reputation and had the pleasure of being a self made man, but was the illegal
son of West Indian parents. Hamilton was socially welcomed after his marriage to Eliza since her
family was considered one of the most influential in New York. On the other hand, Aaron Burr was

The duel between Hamilton and Burr transpired for countless reasons such as family backgrounds,
personal careers, and political goals. In early 1804, Burr decided to run for governor of New York and
lost partly due to Hamilton s opposition and insults he had written in a newspaper that Burr decided to
act. By this time, the two of them have been rivals politically for fifteen years and Burr challenged
Hamilton to a duel, in order to redeem his reputation and worthiness as a political leader. On the other
hand, if Hamilton refused he would be destroying his career along with his reputation. The duel took
place on July 11, 1804 and is considered today as being very symbolic in the political life of the
country. Hamilton and Burr met in Weehawken and they each loaded their pistols in one another s
presence. They calculated the distance, and had someone else give the command. Hamilton and Burr
both fired at the same time, with Hamilton being murdered with a shot to the abdomen. Consequently,
Burr was charged with murder but never arrested due

Being A Stay At Home Mom
Before we began to build our family, my husband and I were both working full time jobs at an
upwards of 60 hours a week. This was practical at the time, but I knew I could not continue to do so
with an infant. This led me to leave my job of 3 years just before giving birth. After a few months, I
debated long and hard on returning to work. After very careful consideration, I decided the best thing
to do for everyone would be for me to stay home. I knew that being a stay at home mom would be
hard. More importantly, I also knew that my daughter needed me to be there for her. It helped me learn
that the plan you may have for yourself may not be the best plan for everyone else; being able to
compromise for loved ones is always important. When I got married, I was working as a federal
contractor for a company that conducted background investigations. The days were very long, some at
10 hours, most at 12. My husband worked at the same company, so we were on the same schedule.
This worked well for us, but as we started to discuss building our family, I began to wonder if this
would be practical. I did not mind working so much, but knew having a baby would change a lot.
Once I became pregnant, it slowly became evident I could not continue such crazy schedules. I moved
to part time status shortly after, and ultimately left my job just months before having our daughter. I
gave birth to my daughter on November 8, 2014. After 20 hours of labor, she failed to progress further

  • 2. A Comparison of Two Commencement Speeches Essay Graduating from school is only one of the essential tools for a young person to have a successful life. A person endures many long years of schooling, and then the graduation day finally arrives. That special day is one of the most momentous days in a young student s life. Happiness and sadness are the two emotions a person will feel on that special day. A student will experience happiness because of a significant milestone that was completed in the student s life. The sad emotions will arise because of a terrifying new chapter in the book of life that is about to begin. Both Bradley Whitford and His Holiness the Dalai Lama give their commencement speeches by using humor to relax the mood of the crowd, making light of their fame, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next, both of the speakers incorporate their fame to try and get a meaningful message across to the young people before going out into the real world. Being famous does not mean that you are a perfect person without flaws, and fame takes hard work and dedication. Whitford talks about why in the world, the college would opt instead for a glorified circus clown from a television show (1). By poking fun at himself and not acting superior, he is letting the audience know that everyone is equal. Whitford establishes a common ground with the students, and it makes the students feel comfortable listening to his words and advice. Whitford talks about how he only has two areas of expertise reproduction and acting (2). That means that all people have an area in their lives where they can be considered an expert. The Dalai Lama expresses to the students that he will try and speak directly through broken English (1). Immediately that tells the graduating class that the Dalai Lama is not perfect, and he has to work hard for his place in society. His English was not perfect, but he essentially told the students with courage anything is possible. Some people look up to famous people, but both speakers try and establish themselves as ordinary people trying to find success in their lives. Incorporating their faults into the speeches lets the graduates know that it takes dedication and hard work to achieve success. Even imperfect people can have what it takes to find a job that ... It is important to equip the viewers with general knowledge of Africa so they can go through the exhibit with a basic foundational understanding. The overall topic of the exhibit is the promotion of children s rights through the ACRWC s Articles 15 17. The Articles are the three major sub themes; the right to work, health, and education. These three specific articles were chosen because of the impact they play in the development of African children. The right to education is the focal point of the sample module. The three sub themes provide a narrow focus on the overall right to education in Africa. The first two pictures included in the sub theme access to education are pictures which represent the overcrowding of classrooms. These pictures are included because according to Schanzenbach (2014) class size can be correlated to future student outcomes. The smaller the student to teacher ratio is the better the future outcome of the individual child. The following two pictures are included to further the understanding of access to education in relation to safety. There are many safety factors that can impact a child s education. Safety concerns are one of the main reasons children are not attending school or are found underachieving (Asante Africa Foundation, 2013). The last picture of this sub category is included to help visualize how many children in sub Sahara Africa are not attending school due to an unstable country. Poirier (2012) mentions how conflicted countries in Africa produce major damage to public infrastructures, and contribute to the displacement of populations. Armed conflicts heavily impact the enrolment rates of children in school. In 2009, 27 million people worldwide were displaced due to armed conflicts of this 27 million, 11.6 million people were in 21 African countries (Poirier, 2012). Constant tempo and cinematography picks the curiosity of audiences mind for the film. Martha Rosler in this short film speaks the name of the object and using body language to show how the object works. Each object has it own usage and could be use in a mere strength to carry out its function well. However in the film we could see the extreme strength exerted to show how an object could be used in a harmful way. The function of the objects now is twisted and becomes a deadly weapon. Unlike Semiotics of the kitchen, that we could conclude the mood through the energy in ones speech; Todd Haynes direct it without any dialogue but background sounds and music to make us feel the isolated mood of one. One of the examples of background sounds that leave a great impression on me was the scene when she get choke by the fumes; the sound of the car moving when her window was down, the sound of her closing up the car window and her serious continuous coughing. In that scene there was no speech and only background noise, this engages the audience as a part of the scene itself. In the article from Detroit the author pointed out the diversified group of participants at the rides that they put on, and how much fun was had by all. In my travels around Baton Rouge I, have noted the diversity of the cycling community in our fair city. There is no rule that says that you should become an all day, everyday cyclist. Being a weekend rider or leisure cyclist is great fun, you have a hobby, you are getting some exercise and having a good time at it. Commuting to work or school is not something that everyone can do. Those of us who are fortunate, enough to be able to do so, know how lucky we are. Bike riding is a privilege. Those of us who ride, and are involved in the advocacy movement are more than aware of how it is a precarious situation. On the one hand, we have those who would support us in power to make the decisions that will make it easier and safer to walk and ride a bike in Baton Rouge. On the other hand, there are those who think that bikes are for kids and should be kept off the streets period. If you ask most police officers what the laws are about bicycles and the roads you would probably find out that a lot of them don t know. Do bikes belong on the roads or the sidewalks? The Reality Of War By Ambrose Bierce The Reality of War Death; destruction; crawling, bloody men without jaws; and a child in the middle of it is just a glimpse of the grotesque short narrative Chickamauga by Ambrose Bierce. Chickamauga Creek is an area near Chattanooga, Tennessee and northwestern Georgia, plagued by war, suffering, and bloodshed from the Civil War (Bohannon). Bierce served in the Union Army during the American Civil War (Campbell). Many Americans then, and today, romanticize war with glory, heroism, and patriotism. The irrational mindset of leaders and generals in the Civil War led to needless bloodshed. Once the boy comes upon the soldiers retreating from battle, he pretends to lead them onward with his sword. The fact that he is pretending to lead them is significant in and of itself. Young men are thrown into war, and move up the ranks quickly due to causalities. They are often young and inexperienced, and catapulted into roles of leadership. Not having the experience to know how to be a leader, they pretend to be the leaders in the overdramatized, delusional war tales of heroism and patriotism, just as the boy did. He even tries to play with the soldiers, as they reminded him of the painted clown whom he had seen last summer in the circus (Bierce, 58 59). Just as inexperienced young officers enter the war with delusions of grandeur, oblivious of the realities of war, the boy is also oblivious of the grotesque situation he has come upon. The boy eventually found his way back to his home, which he found destroyed. Many of the leaders of the Civil War led their men across their own country, bruised, bloodied and battered, only to return to their own homes, which were destroyed by war, as well. The boy looks at the creeping, bloodied men, and draws a connection to circus clowns, and his father s slaves who would creep upon their hands and knees for his amusement (Bierce 59). I have experienced a lot in the couple years I have been at senior, and I have lots to say about the high school life. The one thing that I would say never changed and kept the ram fam together is Nasty Nation. Nasty Nation is what we call ourselves at games and many different activities. We have a twitter page that is called Nasty Nation. I followed it my freshman year and it told me when the games were, what the theme was and if I didn t go to the game they would post the score as the game is going on. The games were always my favorite thing to go to in high school. I would dress up to my fullest ability and cheer on the rams. Another thing that never changed was the level of stress I had each year. Between homework, work, school, family, friends, and a boyfriend life was not the easiest sometimes. I have been super happy, anger, and I have cried at least accouple times in the past three years from being here. I m not going to lie I had come to the point accouple times where I wanted to just give up and drop out, but I knew that would not be a very smart thing to do. The Disillusionment of Ten O Clock by Wallace Stevens, dramatizes how the average person has lost all sense of imagination. The speaker focuses to comment on the white night gowns of the people being observing, highlighting how typical and mundane their lives have become (2). The poem then carries on to explain how they could have nightgowns that are purple with green rings,/Or green with yellow rings or adorned with decorative trim, but the people still choose to wear the same, white nightgowns (4 5). Pirates are adventurous, bold, and place their faith in abstract concepts like mermaids and treasure maps. They are not haunted by houses or suburbia (1). Pirates are free to imagine what they want and when. The red weather part of the poem is Stevens s way of exploring the pirate s own imagination. Since he is free to allow his mind to roam, he can come up with obscure ideas like red weather. It does not make sense that the weather is red, but that is the point. The reader is supposed to question why the weather now has color, and how. It is the transitional point from dreaming only in white, to suddenly experiencing bright color. • 16. Solar Energy Advantages And Disadvantages Solar energy can be use today in a variety of ways. Probably because today, more and more people are understanding the advantages of solar energy as our solar technology increases and the cost of fossil fuels rises. Solar energy systems today can now used to power homes, cars, appliances in a ways of like Photovoltaic panels, Heating water, Lighting etc. Solar Photovoltaic panels The most common form of solar energy used today are photovoltaic solar panels, which absorb the sun s light to create electricity. These solar panels can be attached to homes as a primary or secondary source of electric power. They can also be used for small appliances and machines which only need small amounts of electricity for use. Large scale photovoltaic panel plants have also been constructed to provide power to many homes. Solar cels convert sunlight directly into electricity. Solar cells are often used to power calculators and watches. They are made of semiconducting materials similar to those used in computer chips. When sunlight is absorbed by these materials, the solar energy knocks electrons loose from their atoms, allows the electrons to flow through the material to produce electricity. This process of converting light (photons) to electricity (voltage) is called the photovoltaic(PV)effect. Solar cells are typically combined into modules that hold about 40 cells; a number of these modules are mounted in PV arrays that can measure up to several meters on a side. These flat plate PV arrays can be mounted at a fixed angle facing south, or they can be mounted on a tracking device that follows the sun, allowing them to capture the most sunlight over the course of a day. Several connected PV arrays can provide enough power for a household; for large electric utility or industrial applications, hundreds of arrays can be interconnected to form a single, large PV system. Solar lighting One of the easiest way to improve home efficiency is to add outdoor solar lighting to your property. Unlike traditional exterior lights, solar lighting requires no complicated setup as the lights are wireless and harness sunlight during the day to circumvent the need for grid supplied electricity at night. These two periods combine with each other and what you get is the Baroque. The Renaissance had hidden meanings and complex theologies hidden in their paintings. The Baroque simplified that formula and made art more accessible to people, no hidden meanings and no hidden symbols. Not only did it have this but the Baroque just did not simply tell a story but a moment in time from that story. This moment in time technique not only allowed for some showmanship in skill but allowed the viewer to take part of the moment with usually and empty space for the viewer. And it is definitely not like the strange exchange and confusion that comes from the harsh mannerists. But rather, the Baroque offers the viewer a space in the scene, an interaction. It is often warm and inviting when appropriate and allows even uneducated people to understand what is going on. The Baroque has more of a human quality than a divine one. In 1962, the Nobel Prize was awarded to Francis Crick and James Watson for formulating the structure of the complex molecule known as DNA. These discoveries were a direct result of the accumulation of many scientists earlier analyses and findings of the DNA. Before Watson and Crick had developed the double helical structure of DNA, indication of this genetic material had been revealed around the 1850 s. During the century following the first evidence of DNA, subsequent researchers had been eagerly examining the physical and chemical components of this molecule. The world population has been increasing dramatically each year. In the 1960 s the world population reached 3 billion, by 2000 the population doubled to 6 billion people. Today, there is roughly 7.4 billion people around the world. This drastic increase in population needed a drastic change in food production. To insure there was enough food for the world, there needed to be a better faster method to producing larger quantities of food. Industrial farming was the solution. Before industrial farming, farming was on a small scale. Used mainly for feeding the farmers and those in nearby towns. By using industrial agriculture methods, farmers were capable of creating a large amount of product while fighting the continuous battle of weeds. Of course this method of farming had multiple disadvantages. The crops became dependent on the weed killers, the weeds would need stronger killers each season, the combination of weed killer and pesticides then deprived the soil of nutrients. All of these devastating negatives transformed into a continuance cycle. Famers needed to buy both stronger weed killer, and fertilization in order to keep up with the demand of the economy. First, it was the asteroid, now it is humans. Biologists claim we are in the age of the sixth extinction; predominantly caused by humans. In this essay, I will be going over how the destruction of the ecosystem pertains to the sixth extinction caused by industrialization, movement of species, and human population growth. Industrialization Humans have been compared to the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs (National Geographic). The asteroid scientists claimed killed the dinosaurs was abrupt, and the species of the earth had no idea about it (National Geographic). This can be compared to the current situation with human s industrializing the world. Humans have developed innovative ways in how we get objectives completed. Karl Marx observed that to truly identify a state, we need only to observe its economy and the associated institutions, Marx s famously commented liberal conceptions of justice and equality often result in unequal results rung as a corner stone argument of opponents of Neo Liberal economics. The story of the Occupy Movement, while regularly citing Marxist arguments in its critique of neo liberalism, is essentially the story of resistance. It fought against Neo Liberalism, globalization and the fight to re include economic equality in the discourse of human rights. In Fact, the Occupy Movement is a direct response to the abuses and inherent contradictions found in Neo Liberal ideology, they range from significant income inequality to fundamentally altering the discourse associated with human rights. To fully understand Neo Liberalism, Capitalism and Globalization, it is important to understand the preceding ideology. For the purposes of this paper, Colonialism and Imperialism will be briefly explained, in an attempt to set context for discussing Occupy s creation and its goals in relationship to Neo Liberalism. Threat to Liberty in Equality Based Societies While traveling across the United States, Alexis de Tocqueville recorded how democracy operates and the roles of its participants in, Democracy in America. Tocqueville demonstrates his admiration of the American democratic system and Americans dedication to freedom, equality, and supporting one another. Despite these praises, there is also a looming danger against liberty in not only America, but in all societies based on equality. The most imminent threat to liberty in these societies is despotism as it prevents individuals from exercising their natural freedoms and rights. Tocqueville proposes resolutions to this threat, such as, government decentralization and civil associations. Despotism flourishes in equal societies due to individuals isolating themselves and forming a centralized governing institution. As stated by Tocqueville, Equality places men beside one another without a common bond to hold them. Equality disposes them not to think of those like themselves... (485). With aristocracies, a society not concerned with equality, there is a ligature between individuals within each socioeconomic class. For instance, the noblemen associate with noblemen, while the poor associate with the poor. However, with societies based on equality, mankind is no longer divided by their means. The needle is then removed and a sheath is advanced over the wire. Vascular sheaths are hollow structures with a built in diaphragm to prevent bleeding. Catheters are then placed into and out of the sheath with a minimal loss of blood.11 Access to the Cardiovascular System Femoral arterial and venous access is traditionally the method of choice in infancy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clean Edge by Paramount gives customers a clear perception of the advantages of the product without being concerned about other product categories. Critique of Rejected Options There are several reasons why the project team should reject the first option in positioning Clean Edge in a niche. The first reason concerns the pricing strategy. Placing the product in a niche position would make the razor more expensive in the retail sense. Catering to the more involved groomers places the product at a suggested retail price at $12.99. Placing the product at a higher price in the niche position could only lead Clean Edge Razor to a limited market. Rosenberg suggested placing the product in the niche position for a year or two; however, this could lead to prevention in attracting a wider customer base for the product during that time frame. Another reason Paramount should not place in the niche position is their significantly low marketing budget compared to their competitors. In just media advertising alone, Radiance spent $16 million on Naiv. For Clean Edge, the cost for advertising for the niche position would only be $7 million.
