Essay about The Media During the Tiananmen Square Protests
The Media During the Tiananmen Square Protests
There will always be talk about the biases of the media and the perspective in which it takes when
reporting the news; however, when the news is run by the government and the people who write the
news are threatened to withdraw from their positions because they will not write propaganda, it
becomes a serious issue that can lead a country into turmoil. Such was the situation in Beijing, the
capital of China, in 1989, during the student and worker protests at Tiananmen Square and the
ultimate killings that occurred on June 4th of that year.
The role of the Chinese government in the Tiananmen Square protests went far beyond their military
control and suppression; the government s role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hu Yaobang, former secretary of the Communist Party, sympathized with the students and their
protests, and was subsequently fired from his post, and later died of a heart attack on April 15th, 1989,
which started turning the wheels of protest.
In the weeks following Hu Yaobang s death, students would filter into Tiananmen Square, despite
government warnings, and stay overnight for Hu s funeral, and held a boycott of classes to demands
talks with the government; the government ignores the students and publishes an editorial on April
25th in People s Daily, the government run news agency, saying that the protests were a conspiracy
against the Communist government in China. Because of that editorial, more students flood into
Tiananmen Square to demand talks with the government and the retraction of the editorial. More was
to happen in the coming weeks, including the commemoration of the May 4th Movement, the
development of a massive hunger strike, a visit from Mikhail Gorbachev with the government, the
meeting of Party officials with the students, and the infamous declaration of martial law and the use of

How Textiles And Fashion Designers Have Contributed And...
SUSTAINABILITY ESSAY Explore and comment on how textiles and fashion designers have
contributed and approached fundamental issues within ecological design. INTRODUCTION
Ecological design is the sole responsibility of innovation and the creativity of products and objects
that will sustain our society and future societies. It is critical that we change the way sustainable
design is perceived and interpreted, by beginning to develop an understanding of the history and
journey from Green design into Sustainable design as well as looking at the direction in which we
would like it to progress to. This requires a comprehension of what these initial terms mean and how
this relates to their cultural, social and economic context, all of ... Show more content on

Finally, scrutinizing the information to form a conclusive paragraph reevaluating whether future
designers are considering these issues and whether a new sustainable design mentality is evolving.
GREEN, ECOLOGICAL OR SUSTAINABLE Concepts of ecological design are not necessarily new
or modern; it s the nature of re inventing and re visiting that the term is founded upon. But there are
differences between the terms, some more subtle than others. Typically Green design is associated
with getting the environmental message out there to the masses, focusing more on the environmental
issues and looking into plentiful natural resources. The key words being masses and plentiful, instead
of a less is more mentality that starts to be adopted in Ecological design this suggests a substitution of
product to fill that consumerism addiction. Green design became particularly popular in the 1980 s,
due to a foundation built by the environmental movement of the late 60 s and 70 s, which sparked a
growing awareness into environmental issues; it becomes a pinnacle point of where Ecological design
meets the mainstream. In an extract from Ecological Design: A new critique, Pauline Madge (1997,
p.44) informs us that because green encapsulated green politics, current environmental concerns, and
identified them with a specific colour, in an unprecedented way, green design arrived with a ready
made symbolism: green products, green packaging, and numerous books

Emergent Literacy
EMERGENT LITERACY
Emergent literacy is used to describe how a young child interacts with books and when reading and
writing, even though they could not read or write in the usual sense of way. Emergent literacy is a
process that takes place over the timeframe from birth until a child can read and write in what we
think to be a standard sense. The key to term literacy is the consistency of all parts of language:
speaking, listening, reading, writing, and viewing. Some people believe that, up until a child starts
school he/she will first learn to read and then learn to write. The process to learning to read and write
has to start early in a child s life. Right away they have contact with different types of communication
from the start. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Five Rules For Research Paper
In 1967 when Sister Corita Kent came up with a set of ten rules or highly thoughtout life guidlines,
her intentions were not to make them set rules, but rather, suggestions open for interpertation. As I was
reading over the rules, I saw them as simple life lessons that could help me become more succesful as
a human being. These rules expand past college, they take my thought process into real life situations
and how they can be used in the future to better myself. As I was going down the list a few rules really
stood out to me; both Rules two and three, Rule five, and Rule nine. These four made me actually stop
and really dig deep into researching their meaning. Both two and three go together so I interperted
them as one. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be disciplined is to follow in a good way. To be self disciplined is to follow in a better way. I
interpereted the rule very crucially, meaning choosing the right person to follow is crucial to your
future as a human being. All it takes for your life to go downhill is following in the footsteps of a
terrible influence. Even though choosing a role model is a very smart thing to, your own self should be
the biggest inspiration in your life. You should believe in yourself before believing in anybody else.
The reason I believe this rule is so important because it stresses that influencing yourself is far more
beneficial than being influenced by others even though its ok to be infuenced by others! And when
you have been self influenced you will begin to build structure with yourself leading to self
diciplinary.
Finally Rule Nine states: Be happy whenever you can manage it. Enjoy yourself. Its lighter than you
think. This rule is my favorite because I believe its the realest rule of them all. Life is to short to not
enjoy the little things that blossum from the darkest moments. When stress levels rise you tend to
think that it is the end of the world, but even from the hardest of the hardest times if there is a few
seconds to be happy, make sure you charish that little moment. The hard times that drag you down can
be extremely dense, but the happiness that can be shed from that is so delicate and

Ghost Soldiers by Hampton Sides (Analysis)
Marek Sulich Mr. O Connor American Literature 1 March 2011 Ghost Soldiers The novel, Ghost
Soldiers, written by Hampton Sides, is a great work of literature, depicting the true horrors of war,
friendship, and the one thing that was never lost, hope. The non fictional book takes place in the
Philippines during the Japanese occupation of the islands from 1942 and goes through three gruesome
years to end in the year of 1945. The book begins with the idea of surrendering Bataan, an American
occupied area of the Philippines, because of the severe amount of wounded and very little defense to
last out or defeat the incoming Imperial Army. General Edward King formally surrendered Bataan and
this marked the start of what would be later called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beating had long been an acceptable and routine method of discipline within the Japanese Army.
Soldiers could strike subordinates with no questions asked and no explanation warranted. The slightest
distinction between ranks was of critical importance because it meant the difference between who
could inflict blows, and who could expect to receive them. This sort of institutionalized brutality had a
tendency to work its way down the ranks to the lowliest private. One can imagine what would happen
when an enlisted man, hardened by this psychology of top down violence, found himself suddenly
thrown into a foreign and not altogether distasteful situation in which he was the superior, in charge of
a group of helpless prisoners. For some, the temptation to beat proved irresistible. For others, beating
was only the beginning. (Hampton 91 92) The Japanese soldiers had no sense of remorse or sorrow for
the prisoners instead they pushed them to their breaking point. Many prisoners collapsed which
proved fatal because if you fell behind you became a practice dummy for the Japanese to sharpen their
bayonet skills and techniques of killing on you. On one occasion, a prisoner was falling behind in the
rear so tanks that followed lined themselves up to run over the victim and squish him into the
pavement to make it look as if he were from a cartoon. Since the Japanese could

The Budget For The Budget Of The International Criminal Court
The budget for the Court, according to the International Criminal Court website, is currently $141.6
million, as of 2017. If the increase of the budget is brought on by America, China, Russia, and many
other states that are not currently ratified or signed with the treaty, than the current jurisdiction could
be increased. Currently, as of 2017, the Court has 31 arrest warrants issued. To these 31, around 15 of
the criminals for the arrest warrants are seen to be remaining at large; the current funding of the court
is not large enough for the apprehension of the remaining 15 criminals. If the funding were to be
increased, than the jurisdiction of the court is to be increased also due to the fact that the money could

With such a low budget, it does not help that the International Criminal Court does not own their own
police force or enforcement body thus being the only way is to rely on supporting countries armies,
police force, national guard, etc... to capture the warrants that are handed out for the apprehension of
criminals. If the increase of the $146 million dollar budget is to happen, then the funding could help
support a sole police task force for the International Criminal Court, in which they do not have to rely
on other countries but rather themselves. Solely having their own police task force will allow for the
issue of more warrants within supporting countries due to not having to rely on their police force, but
rather their own. As stated from the International Criminal Court, As a judicial institution, the ICC
does not have its own police force or enforcement body; thus, it relies on cooperation with countries
worldwide for support, particularly for making arrests, transferring arrested persons to the ICC
detention centre in The Hague, freezing suspects assets, and enforcing sentences. As stated by the
following quote, the current jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court is not vast, and seemingly,
it is actually quite small. Alike, the jurisdiction is accounting for the four sums of crimes: genocide,
crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of

Figurative Language In The Treasure Of Lemon Brown
Ellen Hunnicutt once said . . . figurative language adds pizzazz. It raise work above the plain, the dull,
the ordinary. This quote explains how using figurative language helps create a more interesting and
useful way of expressing a tone of a character or event.Figurative language is a uses of words,
phrases, and sentences to help to make the characters and story line come more to live in the reader s
mind. Some examples of Figurative languages are similes, metaphors, hyperbole, personification,
onomatopoeia, and many more. Figurative language help the reader see tone and mood in each of the
example of figurative language because the reader can see or image the event or character in their
mind. In a story, poem, or any form of writing, figurative language is extremely important to a reader
because if a sentence didn t have figurative language the reader may not find the story or poem
interesting or even find it confusing and difficult to understand. In addition the use of figurative
language is crucial when an author is writing. In the stories The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter
Dean Myers and The Pigman, By Paul Zindel, the authors used Figurative language to develop the
tone of their stories so that that the reader can visualize it in their mind.
In the stories The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter Dean Myers, the author uses figurative
language to help the reader understand the tone of the story. The figurative language used in this
sentence is personification to show how the setting. In this event A boy named Grey Ridley was
walking down a street and saw the leafs blowing, Gusts of wind made bits of paper dance between the
papers cars . In other words this shows us that this street may be dirty, this may not be a good
environment, and how bits of paper dancing around is a result of wind so it must be a cold fall
weather. In addition later in the story Walter uses personification again to descriptive the mood. Grey
and Lemon Brown are in a abandoned house and both of them hear a car pass by, A car passed, its tires
hissing over the wet street and it s red tails lights glowing in the darkness. The intention of the author
was to help create the intense, creepy, and spooky mood for the reader. In

Roman Spectacles
Before taking this course, my perception of Roman spectacles was unfortunately heavily based upon
what I was told by my elders or what I saw in movies like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii. Taking
this course has been the biggest eye opener regarding the truth about what really happened in Ancient
Rome, specifically regarding spectacles. I also feel like I ve learned that I should not just aimlessly
believe what I am told or what I see in movies, because people clearly lie about a lot of things and are
inaccurate, yet because they are older or have a mass platform what they say becomes the truth . One
of the biggest misconceptions I learned from this class that I previously believed without a doubt was

How could Hollywood lie to me like that?! Films like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii all lead me to
believe that arenas contained things like animals, pits that warriors could fall into at anytime, and even
were able to house full armies fighting each other to the death, but instead the reality was far different.
Although there were venatores who hunted animals, in gladiatorial combat animals were never used.
They also generally fought in flat arenas, with no fancy things like pits to fall into. Gladiatorial
combat also typically only occurred man to man. Everything shown in the movies is hyper
exaggerated in comparison to what actually occurred because Hollywood cares more about keeping
the viewers interested, and dazzling them with wondrous images of Ancient Rome, then being
accurate. Even things like the armour many of the gladiators wore was not accurately depicted. In the
movies some of them were shirtless and did not wear helmets, which was definitely not the reality
because they generally always wore helmets, armour and tunics. They would wear these things for
protection because, contrary to the movies, gladiators did not fight to the death. They were actually
highly valuable for entertainment, and cost a lot of money to train, so their lives mattered to the
sponsors, therefore it was rare that they were killed in combat. Finding out this information really has
changed my perspective on all movies regarding Ancient Rome, but specifically the ones that include
gladiatorial combat, because next time I see a new film I will be aware of what is real or fake and this
will force me to make others aware of these inaccuracies as

The research team s question is why the student voter turnout is so low, and what can be done to
improve turnout among students. With this research question, the team wants to find out how involved
students are in the voting process while also determining the specific causes that are deterring or
moving students away from voting. The research team has determined that the low voter turnout
among students is an issue because this voting age is such a large group that it is now rivaling with the
Baby Boomers. However, even though that both groups are almost the same size, the Baby Boomers,
have a much higher voter turnout than Millennials (students). In the 2016 presidential election, the

Pros For The Advancement Of Technology
Technology has the ability to make everyday life more convenient, provide more entertainment
options and bring information from your fingertips to your eyes in a matter of seconds. The list of pros
for the advancement of technology is almost endless and the cons may not be as large. Depending on
your parenting style, the pros and cons could be switched around for those families. While the
advantages are numerous the disadvantages and dangers can be just as long. Some of those dangers
include pornography, racist propaganda, child predators and violent material just to name a few.
Without taking an active role in a child s online activities they could be set up for numerous and
dangerous situations for not only them, but their families as well. Without proper interaction from
adults children are at a greater risk of being exposed to inappropriate material.
Luckily, there are plenty of resources available for parents to use to safeguard their children when it
comes to online activities. One of the biggest things that all parents can do to ensure they make the
internet safe is to be involved with online activities. Unfortunately, not all parents know how to use
these resources to protect their kids while online or they simply choose to do nothing and expect their
kids to do the right thing. Parents may unknowingly put too much faith into software that is designed
to protect kid s internet browsing by scanning websites for predefined characteristics that are

Savagery And Civilization In Lord Of The Flies By William...
Have you ever been stranded on an island by yourself in your life? The author s name William
Golding. The title of the book is Lord of the Flies. Civilization is leadership, organization, rules,
working together as a team, and being consistent. Savagery is wild nature, no leadership/competition,
and chaos. The main characters of the book are Jack, Piggy, Ralph, and Simon. In this paper, I will
argue that there had been many incidents throughout the book involving savagery and civilization. A
quote in the book that relates to savagery is They were savages, it was true, but they were human
(169). It is saying that human can be savages but it all depends on the person because they could be
civilized people if they wanted to. In Lord of the Flies, Golding shows that people can turn on each
other without civilization. Piggy is the underdog punching bag, and he is sensitive and smart. Ralph is
voted to be leader and he is very respectful. Simon is the follower and he s the goodness of the group.
Sam and Eric are the only twins in the group. Jack is the one that wants to be leader and not many
people vote for him to become their leader. In the beginning of the book, the plane crashed on the
island and none of the adults survived the crash so they re alone on the island with nobody to guide or
help them. If all the kids work together, they would have an easier life on the island but in order to do
that, you need to be civilized. If all the kids don t work together, they

Hermione in A Winter´s Tale by Shakespeare Essay
Shakespeare s play, A Winter s Tale, has many magical and mystical elements throughout. A Winter s
Tale is true to form as one of Shakespeare s romances. There are tragic scenes in the beginning with a
romantic and joyful twist at the end. One such question raised in this play is whether Hermione,
Queen of Sicily truly died and resurrected or was alive throughout the play. It is hard to take a position
on either fronts of this question because Shakespeare uses many mystical elements that play into the
very question itself. Hermione, wife of Leontes King of Sicily, is accused by her beloved husband of
adultery at the beginning of the play. Leontes is distraught and will not listen to anyone about the
innocence of his wife. He orders his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paulina however has Leontes promise that he will not marry again. This scene gives clues that
Hermione may not be dead, as Paulina gives the inclination that he should wait for the resurrection of
his wife. As the scene follows in Paulina s home, she reveals the statue created to depict an aged
Hermione. There is great detail in the art which overwhelms Leontes, where Paulina offers to draw the
curtain. Leontes rejects her offer and in that instance Paulina cues for dramatic music and the statue
comes to life. The last scene can be interrupted in many different ways. It is true to form in
Shakespeare s plays that there is an element of magic and mystery. Paulina could be the magical witch
in the play where she has the powers to resurrect Hermione from the dead. It does however seem more
likely that Hermione was alive throughout the play. When Hermione was said to be dead of a broken
heart, she did so off stage. There was only word that she was not dead, it was not seen. This could be
interpreted that Hermione was sent into hiding. She could be in hiding for various reasons such as to
teach her wrongfully accusing husband a lesson, or to wait for her reunion with her daughter. When
Paulina asks for Leontes to promise that he will not marry again, she is almost setting up for Hermione
s return to the play. Although it is not to off to think that the resurrection of Hermione was a magical
miracle, there is more evidence to show that she was truly alive

The Decline of Virtue Ethics in the Modern Society and Its Different Forms
The Modern Society
The modern society may be moving forward in terms of scientific and technological advancements yet
as years go by, the development of ethics and morality tends to move backward. Due to our utmost
fascination to material advancements, we tend to forget what truly matters. According to Smith
(2014), the modern society rewards material progress while neglecting moral progress. As such,
people of the modern age disregard moral and intellectual virtues as if they are a nuisance to their
everyday lives. Furthermore, the society prioritizes other affiliations and pursues their own endeavors
without considering the possible consequences that might arise due to their unethical or immoral
practices. In addition, the modern society is heavily influenced by copious ... Show more content on

For instance, we allocate bigger budgets for science research and we give prestigious rewards to
outstanding achievers in science. But society allocates far smaller amounts to advance moral interests
or to reward moral achievers (Smith, 2014). Moreover, the decline of virtue ethics due to the flawed
educational system is explicitly depicted through the immoral practices of the modern youth that they
perceive as something worth bragging about or something that they consider as an achievement. The
modern society also disregards ethics for the reason that they think it is something that is old or
irrelevant for the modern setting. In lieu with the aforementioned statements, the educational system
merely gives importance to the development of the sciences without taking to account the importance

Does this sound like the thoughts of most of us? Many people think that they have to understand and

practice their religion does not mean that you must believe the same as they do. In today s society, we
are faced daily with choices on whether or not to tolerate the practices and actions of people around
us. More times than not, people ignore actions of those around them when their actions do not affect

Students claim that their beliefs are openly mocked in college classrooms around the country and the
professors do not encourage the same respect be shown for their religion as every other belief system

Nativity, in the name of religious tolerance it should be examined to determine if it is a self serving
request. Would they also demand that the Battles of Krishna be re enacted? All children should be
taught of other religions and to learn the history of other religions, but not be required to act out
specifics from a particular religion. We may wish that state schools embraced our religious beliefs, but
must recognize that secularism in education is the beginning of religious tolerance, not the suppression
of it. The state system must use its non denominational status to educate children in all the major
faiths, but that is where it must stop.

recent market reforms that encouraged individual enterprise have led to higher economic growth in
that country. India can generate additional economic growth by fostering entrepreneurial activity
within its borders. To pursue further the entrepreneurial approach to economic growth, India must now
provide opportunities for (1) education directed specifically at entrepreneurial skills, (2) financing of

Based on the successful experience of the former Soviet Union, many economists and policymakers
concluded that, particularly in a poor country, planning was essential for the efficient allocation of an
economy s resources (Panagariya, 1994, p. 194).
1
The history of U.S. business has shown how the pursuit of self interest by individual economic agents
has led to benefits for the larger society. Consider the well known example of Henry Ford s
introduction of assembly line production. This technological advancement led to a significant increase
in productivity at Ford Motor Company. Indeed, despite paying higher wages to his workers, Ford
could still produce automobiles at a much lower cost and pass on part of that lower cost to consumers
in terms of lower prices.

The governments in these newly independent nations assumed a significant role in economic
development. They sought to quickly and substantially raise the standard of living through directed
and controlled economic development. Apart from everything else, these developing countries
invested heavily in education to promote literacy and to ensure an adequate supply of technical
manpower to meet their growing needs. Further, these previously colonized nations did not want to

Examples Of Life After Death
The Thought of life after death is comforting for some. For others, there is no life after death. Human
beings are the only animals on earth who understand they will die, and throughout history have sought
eternal life or that life will continue after death (Stewart Williams). Steve Stewart Williams, after
looking at many arguments for and against life after death, tends to believe that he does not have a
ghost of a chance (Stewart Williams). I tend to agree with this thinking as well. Stewart Williams
shows some cases for life after death and then shows some arguments against it.
Stewart Williams looks at the examples of paranormal phenomena first. These are the ideas of out of
body experiences, near death experiences, ghosts, mediums who communicate with the dead, and past
life memories. If these occurrences were what they appear, they would be proof of an afterlife, but ...

People may have the wishful thinking without evidence, but it could still be true. Wishful thinking is
not a way of proving that life after death is false. One last argument is resurrection. This, for Stewart
Williams, has many holes. For one, if it is true the body is resurrected, and we are made of atoms
possible from bodies of past people and possible your atoms go into others in the future, how would
God resurrect everyone? Another question Stewart Williams is maybe God uses other atoms, not
within other people, then would you be the same person you were before death if not made up of the
same material you were when alive. I like the thoughts put forth by Stewart Williams, if we are atoms
and those atoms spread after death, then we would not really be the same. Stewart Williams uses the
idea of the you after death is not the same you from before death you would be a replica. I agree with
that, a replica or clone of you from different atoms would not necessarily be you, almost identically
but could not

Hurricane Research Paper
The hurricane began as a tropical wave a westbound low pressure area first observed southeast of
Cape Verde on 29 August.[1] Traversing the tropical Atlantic, the wave retained a minimum
barometric pressure of about 1010 mbar (hPa; 29.83 inHg) and strengthened briefly the following day.
[2][3] By 1 September, however, the wave had become rather weak and indiscernible; it would remain
as such for much of its early existence till 6 September, by which time it had moved past the
Windward Islands. In this region the system became sufficiently organised to be classified as a tropical
depression at 18:00 UTC that same day, about north north west of Grenada.[4][5] Some six hours after
its inception the depression strengthened to a tropical storm over the ... Show more content on

Intensification remained gradual until the hurricane moved into the Gulf of Honduras by 10
September, when the hurricane began to rapidly intensify. At 00:00 UTC on 10 September, the cyclone
intensified into a Category 2 hurricane. The storm strengthened further before reaching its peak
intensity with as a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 135 mph (215 km/h) at
1800 UTC.[5] The strong hurricane made landfall on Belize City at the same intensity two hours later.
A barometer in the city recorded a minimum pressure of 952 mbar (hPa; 28.12 mbar); this was the
lowest barometric pressure measured in association with the storm.[2] The hurricane substantially
weakened over the Yucatán Peninsula, and had weakened to tropical storm strength by the time it had
entered the Bay of Campeche. Despite moving back over water, the tropical cyclone continued to
weaken in the bay,[5] and made its final landfall roughly 60 70 mi (95 110 km) north of Tampico,
Mexico, with winds of 40 mph (65 km/h) at around 00:00 UTC on 13 September.[2] Over the
mountainous terrain of Mexico, the storm quickly weakened, and dissipated later on 13

Connectivity And Its Discontent By Sherry Turkle
All advantages have corresponding disadvantages. Sherry Turkle s essay Connectivity and its
Discontents address her stance towards technological communication. Throughout her essay, she
provides examples that illustrate how the world is consistently depending on technology for
communication. Turkle s opinion towards the issue is that, she believes we ll eventually sacrifice
communication for mere connection. Her examples make the reader consider that technological
communication leads to human beings losing intensity in communication in both personal and
professional situations because of distraction and convenience. The twenty first century widely
introduced a variety technological advancements which made people rely often on the technology.
Thinking back to her opinion towards the issue I would agree with the idea that humans are becoming
too attached to technology, but I would disagree that technology draws a wedge between people.
Having an environment that is advancing daily in technology makes communication everyday easier
for people. It expanse the availability for communication for the people who are in different countries,
gives them the ability to communicate in the comfort of their own home. For an instant, my mother
lives here in the United States, but her family lives in Mexico, therefore, communicating face to face
is inconvenient for them unless she flies to them. Technology has made my mother connect more with
her family due to appreciating every moment

Theme Of Imperialism In A Passage To India
In the novel A Passage to India, Forster portrays many of the interactions between the Indian
population and the British imperialists as an over arching metaphor for the shortcomings of
imperialism. This metaphor is further elaborated by the personal make up of certain characters,
through their values, and their actions towards one another. The following essay will focus on the
character Cyril Fielding and his ability to contrast the ordinary English imperialist and by doing so
expose the polarizing inroads of the British Raj.
A question one must ask when reading this novel is whether the connections between characters can
be made on an individual level, and not just from an imperial perspective. This notion is echoed by the

Fielding on the one hand renounces both the English and the Indian societies due to the similarities
they both displayed after the trial. Not being able to find a place on either side of the two nationalities,
he leaves the country in pursuit of structure . One could argue that at the end of the novel that Fielding
s return to Aziz amongst all the muddle is a cyclical return to the beginning, and affords a second
chance at friendship. However, with the increased radical and drastic nature of Aziz s beliefs forces a
divide that leaves Fielding on the perceived side of the

A Report On A Government
A government should always be open to criticism, be held accountable for their actions, and be honest
when notifying the public of any events. This creates government transparency and allows its citizens
to hold their leaders accountable for their actions. In order to create this transparency in today s
society, a technical system must be set in place. This technical system needs to contain government
documents which are easily accessible to the public. But, not all documents should be housed in this
accessible database. Some government knowledge should be kept secret and inaccessible, because it
could fall into the wrong hands. Documents containing economic information, such as budgets and
spending should be readily available on a database for the public to access. Without a transparent
government, citizens can become unruly and no longer trust their government due to the high volume
of secrets or hidden documentation.
Solution I My first solution to this issue is to open a cloud database which would house any
documents containing government budgets, spending, and/or salaries. This database would be
accessible to everyone with the means to access a cloud database. The database could be accessed via
an application downloaded onto a computer or mobile phone. There is already an app with these
specifications available for Montgomery County in Maryland. The app was built by Socrata, a Seattle
based cloud software company, in order to encourage citizen engagement within their

YAMBAO, Monn Juleuse F. mjfyambao@gmail.com E304: Kundt s Tube: Velocity of Sound in Solid
METHODOLOGY
Two experiments were done last time due to some circumstances that made the class to lack time and
to be late compared to the official class syllabus. The students were able to accomplished the job by
equally dividing the time into two. The first experiment was about Kundt s tube. In this experiment,
longitudinal sound waves will be produced in a metal rod and an air column. Using the properties of
wave motion , the frequency of the sound and the speed of sound in the rod can be determined.
For this experiment setup, following materials are needed such as a Kundt s tube apparatus, a meter
stick, a piece of cloth, a thermometer, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the temperature is directly proportional to the velocity of sound in air. Comparing the
velocity of sound in the rod and the velocity of sound in air, the velocity of sound in the rod is greater
than the velocity of sound air since the molecular arrangement of solids are very much compact that
allows the waves to easily travel along the medium. The molecular arrangement of gases is far apart
from each other. Because of this, it makes it hard for the wave to travel the energy from one particle to
the other thus allowing the velocity of the sound to move slower.
SAMPLE COMPUTATION
Given:
Length of metal rod, Lr = 91.5 cm
Average length powder segments, La = 10 cm
Temperature of air, t = 26

The struggle for north america was mostly a battle for land in north america which was called the
Seven Years War which was a worldwide conflict in 1756 1763 between Austria and its allies,
including France, and Prussia and its allies including England. The colonists of north america included
Samuel De Champlain of New France who traded furs, John Smith of Virginia who sought wealth, and
John Winthrop of Massachusetts who sought religious freedom. Samuel De Champlain founded the
first successful French settlement in north america and explored parts of what are now Canada and
parts of the northern part of north america. He also returned to Canada in 1608 to establish and help

from these outpatient settings tends to go unreported therefore affecting the accuracy of any research

skin cancer prevention strategy.
While the strategies mentioned in this section can still be used to prevent skin cancer, they have some
defects that prevent them from being the main prevention strategies. Some of them are as a result of
them having a short term benefit but long term disadvantage such as the Resurfacing Procedures while

Through this strategy, children acquire important knowledge and vital skill on the dangers of exposing
their skin to ultraviolet radiations from the sun and some of the ways they avoid these radiations. The
idea informing this strategy is so as to provide awareness as well as education about skin cancer from
very young age so that children can acquire the right habits right from an early age.
This strategy is a high priority because according to medical studies protection from the sun s
ultraviolet radiation is usually very important in childhood because sunburns that have been developed
early during the life time of a person can often lead to the emergence of skin cancer their adulthood. It
is estimated that approximately 80% of the sun damage on the skin a person during their lifetime

Analyse Character Traits
There are a few traits listed that I admire greatly among others, and would like to think that I hold
myself or am working on perfecting those traits within my being. Three main ones would be
Openness, Responsibility, and Empathy. People who are open minded tend to be the ones that are
responsible for our ever so evolving world, standards, morals, ethics, society, and way of life as it is.
This to me automatically makes them important and special, as the world and society would not be so
advanced as we are today without these type of people. I feel these individuals are not so quick to
speak, judge, and hold down others. If Christopher Columbus was not so exploratory due to his open
minded thinking, then perhaps we would live in a world that continued to think the earth was simply
flat. I personally feel that nothing is really so simple in this life, therefore, the same way of thinking,
acting, reacting, fitting, living, preserving, remedying and so forth....all of this could not ... Show more

The world could not improve if there were no people in it to see that improvements need to be made. I
think the world would be a more cruel and dark place without these individuals. It is my belief that
these types of people have a lot to offer and much to teach others. When I come across people such as
this, it is like taking a breath of fresh air after being under water for so long; it is not so common to
meet someone like this...because they preserve honesty, not just towards others, but within themselves.
Many changes I have made in my life have stemmed from me taking responsibility for my actions and
then making a plan to do better or something different that can provide better outcomes in the

Wendy Cope Reading Scheme Summary
Wendy Cope: Reading Scheme
When I was younger I had no idea what this world held for me. I was innocent. As a child, I was
innocent of mortality, as a teen hope, and as a young adult love. However, later on that innocence took
on the role of ignorance. Not in the sense of not being knowledgeable or educated on the subject but
rather knowing it all too well that I choose to not acknowledge it. Innocence can be served as an
instrument to tune out your surroundings when things take a toll. It can be an illusion from reality to
protect what one desires to be true feel rather than what is actual. In Wendy Cope s poem Reading
Scheme, Cope writes about the child s viewpoint of an affair by using the villanelle form to illustrate
the inability of children to make connections and ultimately argue that innocence is simply an illusion.
In order to understand the illusion of innocence in Wendy Cope s poem we must first familiarize
ourselves on the subject of innocence and how, depending on the mindset, it is defined. Also, we must
alert ourselves of Cope s writing style and the purpose of her writing. According to the article
Archaeology: the loss of innocence, the loss of disciplinary innocence is the price of expanding
consciousness...the loss is irreversible and the prize substantial (Clarke 6). Are we rewarded when our
innocence abandons us or has suffering begun because now things are seen in a different aspect. The
author of the article, David Clarke, claims innocence is a continuous losing process (Clarke 6). We
continue to loss some sort of innocence into our teens, adulthood, and even our later years. It is when
we choose to open ourselves to new experiences that our innocence beforehand disappears. Cope is
well known for her manner of addressing serious or grave topics in a humorous way. Her writing style
has double meaning to it. The serious tone of it hides between the lines of humor. The poem is about a
mother having an affair with the milkman. Toward the end of the poem the husband returns home and
discovers what his wife has done then goes after the milkman. All the while the children, Peter and
Jane, are watching the event but also getting distracted by other things that are happen like Look at the

Frogspawn Coral Research Paper
Human beings are always searching for ways to reach a peaceful and tranquil environment. One great
way to reach this is to have a hobby. Most will find that the hobby of saltwater aquariums can be very
helpful to distress; however, it can also be useful as a profitable investment through the harvesting of
coral. In doing so, many gain the skill of patience.
There are many different varieties of coral, each varying in structure. There are Four classes of species
of coral, each has its own method of harvesting. One species of coral is LPS and SPS, which means
large polyp stoney and small polyp stoney. Aquarists write articles informing people about the

Theme Of Alcoholism In Reservation Blues
Alcoholism severely changes the lives of the people it affects. By stripping away the few choices the
natives once had, the men no longer have any way to go. With this in mind, this photo looks more at
the struggles of an individual with alcoholism. The bottle represents alcoholism s tendency to trap its
victims. In Reservation Blues, the men are said to be trapped on the reservation by the beer they
indulge themselves in. Therefore, the man is trapped within the bottle and without a means of escape.
The duality of the symbol comes into play when one looks at him as a reflection on the bottle or as a
being inside the bottle. When a reflection, he is trapped in the shape of the bottle where he navigates a

Middle Colonies Vs New England Colonies
In 1630, the Pilgrims settled in what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts. Their first few months
consisted of deplorable weather conditions, infertile soil, and fights with Native Americans. However
future colonies learned from their mistakes. By 1700, England had moved on to settling more of the
New World . The other two colonies would make many improvements to try to make their colony the
most appealing, some even sent out brochures to promote themselves and get more colonists.
Government, religion, and economy were all very important to the colonists and made or break a

Unlike Middle and Southern colonies, New England came here mostly for religion and to escape the

practice their own religion, most colonies just wanted a piece of land in America because it was a
status symbol back then. One of the colonies that stood out from the rest was Pennsylvania. William
Penn founded a very open colony with much religious tolerance. He sent flyers out to advertise in
Europe. People from Europe and beyond came to Pennsylvania because any religion was tolerated.
Alexander Hamilton said I dined at a tavern with a very mixed company of different nations and
religions. There were Scots, English, Dutch, Germans, and Irish. There were Roman Catholics,
Church [of England] men, Presbyterians, Quakers, ... Moravians ... and one Jew . Another example of
religious tolerance is the Southern colonies. Lord Baltimore did this so he could get more people to

  • 2. Essay about The Media During the Tiananmen Square Protests The Media During the Tiananmen Square Protests There will always be talk about the biases of the media and the perspective in which it takes when reporting the news; however, when the news is run by the government and the people who write the news are threatened to withdraw from their positions because they will not write propaganda, it becomes a serious issue that can lead a country into turmoil. Such was the situation in Beijing, the capital of China, in 1989, during the student and worker protests at Tiananmen Square and the ultimate killings that occurred on June 4th of that year. SUSTAINABILITY ESSAY Explore and comment on how textiles and fashion designers have contributed and approached fundamental issues within ecological design. INTRODUCTION Ecological design is the sole responsibility of innovation and the creativity of products and objects that will sustain our society and future societies. It is critical that we change the way sustainable design is perceived and interpreted, by beginning to develop an understanding of the history and journey from Green design into Sustainable design as well as looking at the direction in which we would like it to progress to. This requires a comprehension of what these initial terms mean and how this relates to their cultural, social and economic context, all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, scrutinizing the information to form a conclusive paragraph reevaluating whether future designers are considering these issues and whether a new sustainable design mentality is evolving. GREEN, ECOLOGICAL OR SUSTAINABLE Concepts of ecological design are not necessarily new or modern; it s the nature of re inventing and re visiting that the term is founded upon. But there are differences between the terms, some more subtle than others. Typically Green design is associated with getting the environmental message out there to the masses, focusing more on the environmental issues and looking into plentiful natural resources. The key words being masses and plentiful, instead of a less is more mentality that starts to be adopted in Ecological design this suggests a substitution of product to fill that consumerism addiction. Green design became particularly popular in the 1980 s, due to a foundation built by the environmental movement of the late 60 s and 70 s, which sparked a growing awareness into environmental issues; it becomes a pinnacle point of where Ecological design meets the mainstream. In an extract from Ecological Design: A new critique, Pauline Madge (1997, p.44) informs us that because green encapsulated green politics, current environmental concerns, and identified them with a specific colour, in an unprecedented way, green design arrived with a ready made symbolism: green products, green packaging, and numerous books ... Emergent Literacy EMERGENT LITERACY Emergent literacy is used to describe how a young child interacts with books and when reading and writing, even though they could not read or write in the usual sense of way. Emergent literacy is a process that takes place over the timeframe from birth until a child can read and write in what we think to be a standard sense. The key to term literacy is the consistency of all parts of language: speaking, listening, reading, writing, and viewing. Five Rules For Research Paper In 1967 when Sister Corita Kent came up with a set of ten rules or highly thoughtout life guidlines, her intentions were not to make them set rules, but rather, suggestions open for interpertation. As I was reading over the rules, I saw them as simple life lessons that could help me become more succesful as a human being. These rules expand past college, they take my thought process into real life situations and how they can be used in the future to better myself. As I was going down the list a few rules really stood out to me; both Rules two and three, Rule five, and Rule nine. These four made me actually stop and really dig deep into researching their meaning. Both two and three go together so I interperted them as one. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be disciplined is to follow in a good way. To be self disciplined is to follow in a better way. I interpereted the rule very crucially, meaning choosing the right person to follow is crucial to your future as a human being. All it takes for your life to go downhill is following in the footsteps of a terrible influence. Even though choosing a role model is a very smart thing to, your own self should be the biggest inspiration in your life. You should believe in yourself before believing in anybody else. The reason I believe this rule is so important because it stresses that influencing yourself is far more beneficial than being influenced by others even though its ok to be infuenced by others! And when you have been self influenced you will begin to build structure with yourself leading to self diciplinary. Finally Rule Nine states: Be happy whenever you can manage it. Enjoy yourself. Its lighter than you think. This rule is my favorite because I believe its the realest rule of them all. Life is to short to not enjoy the little things that blossum from the darkest moments. When stress levels rise you tend to think that it is the end of the world, but even from the hardest of the hardest times if there is a few seconds to be happy, make sure you charish that little moment. • 9. Ghost Soldiers by Hampton Sides (Analysis) Marek Sulich Mr. O Connor American Literature 1 March 2011 Ghost Soldiers The novel, Ghost Soldiers, written by Hampton Sides, is a great work of literature, depicting the true horrors of war, friendship, and the one thing that was never lost, hope. The non fictional book takes place in the Philippines during the Japanese occupation of the islands from 1942 and goes through three gruesome years to end in the year of 1945. The book begins with the idea of surrendering Bataan, an American occupied area of the Philippines, because of the severe amount of wounded and very little defense to last out or defeat the incoming Imperial Army. General Edward King formally surrendered Bataan and this marked the start of what would be later called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beating had long been an acceptable and routine method of discipline within the Japanese Army. Soldiers could strike subordinates with no questions asked and no explanation warranted. The slightest distinction between ranks was of critical importance because it meant the difference between who could inflict blows, and who could expect to receive them. This sort of institutionalized brutality had a tendency to work its way down the ranks to the lowliest private. One can imagine what would happen when an enlisted man, hardened by this psychology of top down violence, found himself suddenly thrown into a foreign and not altogether distasteful situation in which he was the superior, in charge of a group of helpless prisoners. For some, the temptation to beat proved irresistible. For others, beating was only the beginning. (Hampton 91 92) The Japanese soldiers had no sense of remorse or sorrow for the prisoners instead they pushed them to their breaking point. Many prisoners collapsed which proved fatal because if you fell behind you became a practice dummy for the Japanese to sharpen their bayonet skills and techniques of killing on you. On one occasion, a prisoner was falling behind in the rear so tanks that followed lined themselves up to run over the victim and squish him into the pavement to make it look as if he were from a cartoon. Currently, as of 2017, the Court has 31 arrest warrants issued. To these 31, around 15 of the criminals for the arrest warrants are seen to be remaining at large; the current funding of the court is not large enough for the apprehension of the remaining 15 criminals. If the increase of the $146 million dollar budget is to happen, then the funding could help support a sole police task force for the International Criminal Court, in which they do not have to rely on other countries but rather themselves. • 11. Figurative Language In The Treasure Of Lemon Brown Ellen Hunnicutt once said . . . figurative language adds pizzazz. It raise work above the plain, the dull, the ordinary. This quote explains how using figurative language helps create a more interesting and useful way of expressing a tone of a character or event.Figurative language is a uses of words, phrases, and sentences to help to make the characters and story line come more to live in the reader s mind. Some examples of Figurative languages are similes, metaphors, hyperbole, personification, onomatopoeia, and many more. Figurative language help the reader see tone and mood in each of the example of figurative language because the reader can see or image the event or character in their mind. In a story, poem, or any form of writing, figurative language is extremely important to a reader because if a sentence didn t have figurative language the reader may not find the story or poem interesting or even find it confusing and difficult to understand. In addition the use of figurative language is crucial when an author is writing. Roman Spectacles Before taking this course, my perception of Roman spectacles was unfortunately heavily based upon what I was told by my elders or what I saw in movies like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii. Taking this course has been the biggest eye opener regarding the truth about what really happened in Ancient Rome, specifically regarding spectacles. I also feel like I ve learned that I should not just aimlessly believe what I am told or what I see in movies, because people clearly lie about a lot of things and are inaccurate, yet because they are older or have a mass platform what they say becomes the truth . How could Hollywood lie to me like that?! Films like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii all lead me to believe that arenas contained things like animals, pits that warriors could fall into at anytime, and even were able to house full armies fighting each other to the death, but instead the reality was far different. Although there were venatores who hunted animals, in gladiatorial combat animals were never used. They also generally fought in flat arenas, with no fancy things like pits to fall into. Gladiatorial combat also typically only occurred man to man. Everything shown in the movies is hyper exaggerated in comparison to what actually occurred because Hollywood cares more about keeping the viewers interested, and dazzling them with wondrous images of Ancient Rome, then being accurate. Even things like the armour many of the gladiators wore was not accurately depicted. In the movies some of them were shirtless and did not wear helmets, which was definitely not the reality because they generally always wore helmets, armour and tunics. They would wear these things for protection because, contrary to the movies, gladiators did not fight to the death. They were actually highly valuable for entertainment, and cost a lot of money to train, so their lives mattered to the sponsors, therefore it was rare that they were killed in combat. Finding out this information really has changed my perspective on all movies regarding Ancient Rome, but specifically the ones that include gladiatorial combat, because next time I see a new film I will be aware of what is real or fake and this will force me to make others aware of these inaccuracies as ... • 15. Savagery And Civilization In Lord Of The Flies By William... Have you ever been stranded on an island by yourself in your life? The author s name William Golding. The title of the book is Lord of the Flies. Civilization is leadership, organization, rules, working together as a team, and being consistent. Savagery is wild nature, no leadership/competition, and chaos. The main characters of the book are Jack, Piggy, Ralph, and Simon. In this paper, I will argue that there had been many incidents throughout the book involving savagery and civilization. A quote in the book that relates to savagery is They were savages, it was true, but they were human (169). It is saying that human can be savages but it all depends on the person because they could be civilized people if they wanted to. In Lord of the Flies, Golding shows that people can turn on each other without civilization. Piggy is the underdog punching bag, and he is sensitive and smart. Ralph is voted to be leader and he is very respectful. Simon is the follower and he s the goodness of the group. Sam and Eric are the only twins in the group. Jack is the one that wants to be leader and not many people vote for him to become their leader. In the beginning of the book, the plane crashed on the island and none of the adults survived the crash so they re alone on the island with nobody to guide or help them. If all the kids work together, they would have an easier life on the island but in order to do that, you need to be civilized. If all the kids don t work together, they ... A Winter s Tale is true to form as one of Shakespeare s romances. There are tragic scenes in the beginning with a romantic and joyful twist at the end. One such question raised in this play is whether Hermione, Queen of Sicily truly died and resurrected or was alive throughout the play. It is hard to take a position on either fronts of this question because Shakespeare uses many mystical elements that play into the very question itself. Leontes rejects her offer and in that instance Paulina cues for dramatic music and the statue comes to life. The last scene can be interrupted in many different ways. It is true to form in Shakespeare s plays that there is an element of magic and mystery. Paulina could be the magical witch in the play where she has the powers to resurrect Hermione from the dead. It does however seem more likely that Hermione was alive throughout the play. When Hermione was said to be dead of a broken heart, she did so off stage. There was only word that she was not dead, it was not seen. This could be interpreted that Hermione was sent into hiding. She could be in hiding for various reasons such as to teach her wrongfully accusing husband a lesson, or to wait for her reunion with her daughter. As such, people of the modern age disregard moral and intellectual virtues as if they are a nuisance to their everyday lives. Furthermore, the society prioritizes other affiliations and pursues their own endeavors without considering the possible consequences that might arise due to their unethical or immoral practices. In addition, the modern society is heavily influenced by copious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But society allocates far smaller amounts to advance moral interests or to reward moral achievers (Smith, 2014). Moreover, the decline of virtue ethics due to the flawed educational system is explicitly depicted through the immoral practices of the modern youth that they perceive as something worth bragging about or something that they consider as an achievement. The modern society also disregards ethics for the reason that they think it is something that is old or irrelevant for the modern setting. In lieu with the aforementioned statements, the educational system merely gives importance to the development of the sciences without taking to account the importance of ethical and intellectual virtues in the overall development of a ... Many people think that they have to understand and accept the religious beliefs of others in order to get along with them. Respecting someone s choice to practice their religion does not mean that you must believe the same as they do. In today s society, we are faced daily with choices on whether or not to tolerate the practices and actions of people around us. Evidence suggests that recent market reforms that encouraged individual enterprise have led to higher economic growth in that country. India can generate additional economic growth by fostering entrepreneurial activity within its borders. Based on the successful experience of the former Soviet Union, many economists and policymakers concluded that, particularly in a poor country, planning was essential for the efficient allocation of an economy s resources (Panagariya, 1994, p. 194). 1 The history of U.S. business has shown how the pursuit of self interest by individual economic agents has led to benefits for the larger society. Consider the well known example of Henry Ford s introduction of assembly line production. This technological advancement led to a significant increase in productivity at Ford Motor Company. Indeed, despite paying higher wages to his workers, Ford could still produce automobiles at a much lower cost and pass on part of that lower cost to consumers in terms of lower prices. 82 Asia Pacific Development Journal Vol. 12, No. 2, December 2005 The governments in these newly independent nations assumed a significant role in economic development. Human beings are the only animals on earth who understand they will die, and throughout history have sought eternal life or that life will continue after death (Stewart Williams). Steve Stewart Williams, after looking at many arguments for and against life after death, tends to believe that he does not have a ghost of a chance (Stewart Williams). I tend to agree with this thinking as well. Stewart Williams shows some cases for life after death and then shows some arguments against it. Stewart Williams looks at the examples of paranormal phenomena first. These are the ideas of out of body experiences, near death experiences, ghosts, mediums who communicate with the dead, and past life memories. People may have the wishful thinking without evidence, but it could still be true. Wishful thinking is not a way of proving that life after death is false. One last argument is resurrection. This, for Stewart Williams, has many holes. For one, if it is true the body is resurrected, and we are made of atoms possible from bodies of past people and possible your atoms go into others in the future, how would God resurrect everyone? Another question Stewart Williams is maybe God uses other atoms, not within other people, then would you be the same person you were before death if not made up of the same material you were when alive. I like the thoughts put forth by Stewart Williams, if we are atoms and those atoms spread after death, then we would not really be the same. Sherry Turkle s essay Connectivity and its Discontents address her stance towards technological communication. Throughout her essay, she provides examples that illustrate how the world is consistently depending on technology for communication. Her examples make the reader consider that technological communication leads to human beings losing intensity in communication in both personal and professional situations because of distraction and convenience. The twenty first century widely introduced a variety technological advancements which made people rely often on the technology. Thinking back to her opinion towards the issue I would agree with the idea that humans are becoming too attached to technology, but I would disagree that technology draws a wedge between people. The following essay will focus on the character Cyril Fielding and his ability to contrast the ordinary English imperialist and by doing so expose the polarizing inroads of the British Raj. This creates government transparency and allows its citizens to hold their leaders accountable for their actions. In order to create this transparency in today s society, a technical system must be set in place. This technical system needs to contain government documents which are easily accessible to the public. But, not all documents should be housed in this accessible database. Some government knowledge should be kept secret and inaccessible, because it could fall into the wrong hands. Documents containing economic information, such as budgets and spending should be readily available on a database for the public to access. Without a transparent government, citizens can become unruly and no longer trust their government due to the high volume of secrets or hidden documentation. Solution I My first solution to this issue is to open a cloud database which would house any documents containing government budgets, spending, and/or salaries. This database would be accessible to everyone with the means to access a cloud database. The database could be accessed via an application downloaded onto a computer or mobile phone. Therefore, the temperature is directly proportional to the velocity of sound in air. Comparing the velocity of sound in the rod and the velocity of sound in air, the velocity of sound in the rod is greater than the velocity of sound air since the molecular arrangement of solids are very much compact that allows the waves to easily travel along the medium. The molecular arrangement of gases is far apart from each other. Because of this, it makes it hard for the wave to travel the energy from one particle to the other thus allowing the velocity of the sound to move slower. • 31. Wendy Cope Reading Scheme Summary Wendy Cope: Reading Scheme When I was younger I had no idea what this world held for me. I was innocent. As a child, I was innocent of mortality, as a teen hope, and as a young adult love. However, later on that innocence took on the role of ignorance. Not in the sense of not being knowledgeable or educated on the subject but rather knowing it all too well that I choose to not acknowledge it. Innocence can be served as an instrument to tune out your surroundings when things take a toll. It can be an illusion from reality to protect what one desires to be true feel rather than what is actual. In Wendy Cope s poem Reading Scheme, Cope writes about the child s viewpoint of an affair by using the villanelle form to illustrate the inability of children to make connections and ultimately argue that innocence is simply an illusion. In order to understand the illusion of innocence in Wendy Cope s poem we must first familiarize ourselves on the subject of innocence and how, depending on the mindset, it is defined. Also, we must alert ourselves of Cope s writing style and the purpose of her writing. According to the article Archaeology: the loss of innocence, the loss of disciplinary innocence is the price of expanding consciousness...the loss is irreversible and the prize substantial (Clarke 6). Are we rewarded when our innocence abandons us or has suffering begun because now things are seen in a different aspect. The author of the article, David Clarke, claims innocence is a continuous losing process (Clarke 6). We continue to loss some sort of innocence into our teens, adulthood, and even our later years. It is when we choose to open ourselves to new experiences that our innocence beforehand disappears. Cope is well known for her manner of addressing serious or grave topics in a humorous way. Her writing style has double meaning to it. The serious tone of it hides between the lines of humor. The poem is about a mother having an affair with the milkman. Toward the end of the poem the husband returns home and discovers what his wife has done then goes after the milkman.
