`` The Names `` By Billy Collins Essay
When Billy Collins wrote The Names America was enamored by tragedy. Speaking of tragedy,
the pain in his poem is shockingly detailed among few lines. The presentation of his captivating
words, paints pictures in the minds of his readers. At least it did for me as I read this piece of his
work. The United Statesmonuments Sept. 11, 2001, as the day that will never be forgotten, many
would definitively agree. My insight on his work will reflect on the effects this attackhad on our
communities, lives of Americans and the tightening of the security we hold in the U.S.A. Right
off the top communities were hit hard, the effects of this event put citizens in financial binds.
Although times were getting difficult it brought civilians, us closer together as a Nation.
Offices, businesses, even corporations were put on hold, destroyed or damaged. Many relief
funds were set up to help with supporting the victims. The dollar amount of damage done in the
wake of this event had a towering number. Wikipedia states, There was $10 billion dollars of
property and infrastructure damage. Moreover, a total of $3 trillion dollars in cost. In Result,
the attacks of 9/11 included a greater focus on home life and time is spent with family. Radio
industries responded by playing certain songs over the radio. Others took songs off the radio for
less demeaning reasons, point being the main goal was to draw us closer to unity. Billy Collins

A License Program Can Reduces Car Crash Rates
Teenagers Driving Studies have shown that the Graduated License Program can reduces car crash
rates by 40%. The GDL is available in all 50 states. Since the decrease of teenage accidents have
been declining some states are making the GDL a law in the state.
Car crashes are the number one death of teenagers, a lot of these deaths are by the use of
technology and not buckling up. To begin, the National safety council reports that 28% of
vehicle crashes , are caused by the use of technology (Klass Roney 5). Many accidents are
caused by teens looking at their phones and the use of social media behind the wheel. If more
stricter laws are set on phones in cars that percentage should fall. In general, the use of phones
today by people is just about everyone and people should be more smart and not be using their
phones while driving not just for their safety but others. Furthermore, the amount of teens that die
in car accidents is Four times the amount of drivers twentyfive to sixtynine (Klass Roney 3).
Younger drivers do not buckle up as many other older and experienced drivers. The more young
drivers that are taught what the real impacts of not wearing a seatbelt can cause they would
probably be more wise. Generally speaking, some young teen drivers do not see the seatbelt as
being important, when really it is the most important thing in the car. Better drivers education for
young/new drivers should be taken into account, because it better educates drivers on how to

The Republican Party And Wendy Davis For The Democrat Party
One of the biggest Governor races in Texas history, the race was between Attorney General, Greg
Abbot and State Senator, Wendy Davis, Greg Abbot for the Republican Party and Wendy Davis for
the Democrat Party. Both candidates have a lot to offer to the state of Texas, and it was a very
nasty battle with many campaign segments bringing the opponent down, or trying to at least.
Attorney General Greg Abbott will take the win and become the TexasGovernor, winning by twenty
one points. His victory against Wendy Davis was worse than any Democrat has suffered since
George W. Bushs race against Garry Mauro in 1998 (Heinz). Abbott s victory speech is very well
said, and personable. He mentions his injury, his education plan, and securing the... Show more

He acknowledged that he is going to do the best for everyone, not just Republicans. Everyone
who voted for the Republican Party candidate, Greg Abbott, voted for Hope over fear, unity over
division, for the majesty of what Texas is and what it can be. words from our new Governor
Greg Abbott (Heinz). Throughout the speech he never mentioned tactics on how he won the
election, or critiquing Davis campaign tactics. He was just very thankful for being the winner.
If you were to watch the speech, the viewer could easily tell he felt very honored, as anyone
would, being the first governor elected in 14 years. Abbott talks about his injury when he was in
his 20s and an oak tree fell on him, and paralyzed him from the waist down. You could see the
emotion in his eyes, and his shaken voice when he was talking about this subject, and that it was a
subject that was very sentimental to him. Texas is a state that provides many opportunities to many
people, it does not matter what race you are, if you have any disabilities, or how much education
you have; there are still many opportunities that Texas has for you. In his victory speech he wants
everyone to know that he is living proof of being pushed all the way to the bottom, and struggling to
get back up again, but with determination and perseverance anyone can achieve anything they want;
they just cannot give up. Governor Abbott mentions that we can provide more

This implies using the social factor of family influence in consumer behavior.
1. Shift marketing research focus
TiVo s market research efforts were put on understanding current clients while it was not clear the
total number of still available clients in the market as well as other important factors regarding
buying behavior were not being considered.
We cannot assume that everyone with a TV enjoys it as much as current clients do and feel the
necessity to record their TV shows. The focus in current clients behavior and the lack of
information about the rest of the market considering client s cultural, social and personal factors
does not allow us to clearly see the potential for this product and more effort must be put on that
rather than simple sales effort.
Furthermore, it should be noticed that the results of the marketing research carried out by TiVo
could be influenced by a set of other biases: non response bias; web users bias; reward bias;
questionnaire length bias and formulation bias (the bi annual survey asks directly about satisfaction
, which makes respondents typically score high).
2. Influence problem recognition
From these learnings we can see that there was an important element in promoting the product
which is referral and trial. This demonstrates that many clients would only recognize a need once
they were shown the benefits of using TiVo.

My Personal Philosophy In Nursing Practice
My personal philosophy is based on delivering exceptional service to all mankind and caring for
another individual while providing dignity and respect. I want to serve others in need, regardless of
their situation. The ability to show people respect and dignity during their most troubling time of
their life is the driving force that fulfills my innermost passion. The fact that I can genuinely show
others that I care about them and their needs is quite rewarding.
5. What are some strategies you use or plan to use in the future to stay current in your practice?
I believe that life long learning is extremely essential in the nursing profession. Continuing
education will enrich my knowledge in order contributed to healing and educating others about their
healthcare needs. Therefore, I am invested in continuing to obtain higher levels of educational
degrees, certifications and lifelong learning. This will also increase clinical skills, enhance
knowledge on technology advancement and the new evidence based practices. I am also involved
in professional nursing associations. This is another great way to stay current in my practice.
6. What has been your greatest challenge? One of my most greatest challenges thus far would be
finding a balance with working, going to school, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and having a
personal life. At times, I find myself feeling a bit stressed with trying to juggle it all. However, I

The 10 Stages Of Production For Gap Inc. Jeans
Figure 1 demonstrates the 10 stages of production for Gap Inc. Jeans, from the raw material all
the way through to the consumer as an end product. The first stage is the supply chain for the
production of jeans is to source cotton. Gap has a sustainability and environmental issue when
sourcing cotton. Gap Inc. scored a 0.5 out of a scale of 0 to 19.5 on cotton ranking, conducted
by Rank a Brand. Which assessed their cotton policy, sourcing and traceability based on publicly
available information . Besides the sustainability concern, gap has an environmental issue.
Sourcing unstainable cotton uses a tremendous amount of water, as It takes more than 5,000
gallons of water to make enough cotton for just a T shirt and a pair of jeans . It is also unclear
to the consumer in which countries the cotton is sourced. As some countries like Kazakhstan
and Uzbekistan tend to be much more risk prone for child labor, during the cotton picking
season. The second stage of the production for GAP is the weaving of the fabric. Gap does not
provide any public information on which weaving mills they use or where these mills are located
geographically. From a SEERS point of view this is a responsibility issue. Because Gap should be
able to release this information to the public. So that the consumers can be assured that there are no
social issues within the supply chain. The third stage of production otherwise known as tier 2
suppliers has four connections for making the jeans. These consist

Annabeth Chase and Percy Jackson is just recently off on a quest to acquire the Athena Parthenos.
She s the daughter of Greek goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom and Percy is the son of
Poseidon, the god of the sea and horses. The Athena Parthenos was a deserted, large
chryselephantine sculpture made of the Greek goddess Athena. However, she had to go through a
trial of tests before hand like going through a labyrinth, escaping traps, moving with injury, and
getting past an enemy who didn t like her mother at all. That enemy was Arachne, a talented mortal
weaver who had challenged Athena and lost, resulting in her being turned into a huge spider. Once
they acquired the Athena Parthenos, they fell into the pit of Tartarus. Tartarus is a deep abyss that s

and them had to open it up for them so they could come back. Jason and the crew also have a lot
of problems to deal with as well. They had to deal with numerous amount of altercations with
monsters, other demigods, gods, and themselves. Hazel and Nico are just as important as Percy
and Annabeth. They re both children of Hades, god of the underworld, but however one is
Roman and the other is Greek. Hazel was needed in order to defeat the sorceress Pasiphae. She
had to control the Mist in order to beat the sorceress. The Mist is a supernatural force that allows
mortals to see monsters as something common or everyday like. It can also create ocular
illusions for immortals such as gods. Nico can raise and talk to the dead. They had fight Khione,
goddess of snow. They have to fight Scione, son of Poseidon and 2nd best archer in history. They

constitute a portrait or picture, the likeness must be to such a degree that the individual s image
is instantly recognizable and not a mere reference to the person. Onassis v. Christian Dior New

Borderline Personality Disorder Research Paper
Imagine spending months, even years, solving a problem you never had in the first place.
Individuals with borderline personality disorder often go through this because they are
misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder. Although bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder
are commonly mistaken for each other, they have several distinctive differences to determine if an
individual has one of these disorders. The biggest difference between these two mental illnesses
are the symptoms. Since the symptoms are different, the treatment of the disorders is different as
well. Bipolar disorder is considered a mood disorder, meaning that the mental illness only affects
the person s mood. When an individual has bipolar disorder, the person experiences... Show more

medications. So, people with bipolar disorder and borderline disorder take all kinds of different
medication to minimize their symptoms. When therapy is needed for these two disorders, there are
different types of practices used for each one. For bipolar disorder, therapy is used that focuses on
maintaining a stable routine, changing behaviors, and ways to cope with mania and depression.
With borderline personality disorder therapy includes how to maintain relationships, understand
emotions, and control thoughts. These themes of therapy aligned with the symptoms of the two

why to be a chemical engineer

English III
10 November 2014
Why Chemical Engineering? Individuals take engineering as something distance to their lives due
to rigorous courses to get through. As some would say that it is not worth it, other clever
individuals have figured this out. To be a chemical engineer, an individual explores and takes on
other sciences to create important products to better peoples lives. As Mark and Sherri Devaney
stated, ...Chemical Engineers are charged primarily with finding ways to put science and
engineering principles to work... with their purpose being, ...to help corporations and organizations
create useful, cost effective products that will benefit consumers... .(pg. 43) As it was brought up
earlier, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But this is a life issue, not an engineering issue. (n.pag) With actual experience and not statistics
with studies, this valuable advice could prepare an applicant to be disciplined in a different
category than engineering itself, therefore, expanding their diversity of knowledge and
interaction. These could truly be attributes an applicant would want to desire even if they didn t
decide to pursue chemical engineering. In chemical engineering, an applicant would not only
want to submerse themselves in complete knowledge of chemical engineering, but also in
learning qualifications that could get them noticed and hired. To be a chemical engineer, an
applicant should not be only strong in the occupation itself, but also in their interaction and
sociability. A chemical engineer informs a group of applicants by stating, A lot of my work is
team oriented. I work with a few other people and we all depend on each other to bring certain
results or knowledge to the group as a whole so that we can accomplish our overall goal. (n.pag)
By having interactive qualities, it is clear and also postulated that one cannot be an introverted
person when looking to get hired. By actual accounts of a chemical engineer, he postulates and
informs applicants that, All engineers must at some point (if not nearly always) work as part of a
group or team, and all engineers must be able to communicate the results of their work to their
peers, supervisors, upper management, subordinates, and

How Did Charles Darwin Contribute To Science
It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most
responsive to change, this was said by Charles Darwin, a naturalist who developed the theory of
evolution to explain biological change. Almost all things are somehow affected or reshaped
entirely by scientific advances. Science plays a huge role in everyone and every things life. There
are many scientist who have discovered, helped advance, or even invented incredible things. And in
the top 100 influential scientist sits Charles Darwin. Just like any other scientist, his studies open
doors to many more. His research and visions of common ancestry revolutionized studies in
comparative anatomy, embryology, and taxonomy, and has brought together the basic rule of all
biology. But Darwin s innovative idea of the process of evolutionwas received cautiously and
remains in the minds of many scientist today. His idea made a huge leap, but there was a missing
puzzle piece that was found by scientist Gregor Mendel who figured out that heredity depends on
genes. So without Darwin s grand theory many discoveries enabled by the application of
evolutionary tools would have not been made. Darwin s ideas have been enhanced and modified as
new knowledge and technologies have become... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though this branch took awhile to fully developed most of it was based off of Darwinian
concepts. Another side of philosophy of biology deals with the role of laws. In physical sciences
laws are the bases of theories like the law of motion lead to the theory of gravity. But in
evolutionary biology theories are widely based on concepts like female choice, dominance and
succession, and selection. Over the past century a pronounced change in the methodology in
biology took place. Darwin did not directly cause this change but he did strengthened by his
developments in evolutionary biology (Mayr).

Third Wave Feminism
Have you ever seen a slut walk? I mean women walk around naked saying that they are not asking
for attention. Feminism originated in New York, 1848. The first wave of feminism in the United
States began with the Seneca Falls Convention, the first women s rights convention, held at the
Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls, New York, on July 19 and 20, 1848. (Encyclopedia of Women
and Religion in North America:) Third Wave Feminismstarted in the mid 90 s. ( Four Waves of
Feminism. ) More women hate third wave feminism than men. Third Wave Feminism claims that
North America is a rape culture, that women are always right, and that all men are the same. We
have no need for Third Wave Feminism. Although people may claim that we need Third Wave
Feminism in the United States there are many reasons to prove that we indeed do not need this
cancer in our country. Feminism is Cancer Milo Yiannopoulos. Rape Culture is a term that was
coined by feminists in the United States in the 1970 s. It was designed to show the ways in
which society blamed victims of sexual assault and normalized male sexual violence. ( What is

Support Inclusion Education Cons
There are pros and cons to inclusion education. Those who support inclusion education point to the
benefits which result from putting students with disabilities into general classrooms with other
children who do not have a disability. To begin, integrating students with disabilities into the
classroom forces some teachers to leave their comfort zones and learn new techniques to become
better instructors. Another big benefit for students of all levels of ability is the increase in social
areas such as peer modeling. Children from both aspects of the discussion learn social norms from
their peers exhibiting acceptable academic and social behaviors. Relationship building as well as
allowing children to understand diversity are also great pros.

Grease Essay
Grease is the word when it comes to my favorite musical past time. But the question is, what was
it about the rock and roll era in the 50s that influenced the writers of this stage musical turned
movie? Also, how did this type of film affect the popular culture of the past and of today? That is
the basis of this paperВ….
Grease began as a five hour long amateur show presented in a Chicago trolley barn in the summer
of 1971 and eventually made Broadway. The film version of Grease began almost immediately. It
debuted in 1978, becoming the biggest grossing movie musical in film history. Its eight year run
made Broadway history and put it among today s most popular musicals.

The music s solid rhythm and heavy back beat inspired new forms of dancing that exist today. Far
beyond simply a musical style, rock and roll influenced lifestyles, fashion, attitudes and language.
So the big question is what makes the Grease phenomenon continue? One thing that has made it
go down in history is the music behind it. Some songs were added to film version that were not
in the stage version to reflect the feel of the 50 s in songs suited to the disco era. You re the One
That I Want , Grease , and Hopelessly Devoted to You were all composed for the 1978 film. The
music has captivated a variety of generations for so many years. Today the music plays at
dances, karaoke bars and on the radios across the country, and winds up in almost everyone s
music collection at some point during their lives. Every time I hear a song from the movie, it s
impossible for me not to sing or hum along, and I know I m not alone. The young kids, especially
those five to twelve years old have heard about Grease from their older siblings, have made it their
own favorite.
Another reason youth enjoy Grease is it deals with events and issues encountered in high school. In
fact, the whole movie revolves around the typical high school experience. For instance, the movie
opens with the excitement of the first day of school and Rizzo of the Pink Ladies says that seniors
rule the school. Isn t that the

The First Commercial Nuclear Power Plants
The first commercial nuclear power plants were constructed in 1950. The public was promised a
non polluting and resourceful type of energy. Although there are less than 500 nuclear power
plants in the world, but many nuclear accidents have already been endangering civilian lives, such
as the accidents in Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and the most recent Fukushima Diichi. Nuclear
energy may appear to be the ideal source of energy for the future. However, there are uncontrolled
situations that cause the reactor into meltdown and lead to disaster. On March 11, 2011 Japan
experienced an earthquake, which has become the most terrible and destructive in the history of
this country. In term of geography, Japan is situated in the earthquake prone area, on the junction
of four plates: the Eurasian, Pacific, North American and Philippine. The Eurasian plate is slowly
moving to the east, and three others to the west, so their friction causes earthquakes. Japanese
know about the danger based on their country geography, but they were not ready for this kind of
disaster. A 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck at 2.46pm about 70km east of Tohoku at an offshore
subduction zone, where two tectonic plates collide and one slides beneath the other. According to
IBT news, Its centre was on the seafloor at a 24km depth, this earthquake was so powerful it
shifted Earth on its axis of rotation. The energy released by the earthquake produced a huge
tsunami, with waves up to 30ft beginning to hit the

My problem/phenomenon:
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you spilled something onto your recorded audio
Compact Disk (CD) and didn t realized it until several days later? Below is a report on the effects
of long term exposure of certain household chemicals will have on CD s.
Possible hypotheses:
It is my belief that the Sulfuric Acid will be the one to do the most damage to the CD. If there is
any damage done at all.
Experimental Design and Timeline:
I have wondered about what a household chemical will do when exposed to a CD. So I have
decided to conduct an experiment in which I will take 5 pre recorded audio CD s and divide
them into 24 different sections. That will allow me to place 1 drop of each chemical onto each
section 1 day for 24 days and record the result. I have decided to do this by trying out several
different acids and solvents that you can find around the house.
The 4 different Acids I plan to use are?
1.Acetic acid found in Vinegar
2.Citric acid found in Lemon Juice
3.Tartaric acid found in Red Wine
4.Sulfuric acid found in Car Battery Acid
At the end of 24 day I plan to take photos of what each CD s look like before I wash them off with
warm soapy water. After

Loyalty In A Retrieved Reformation And After Twenty Years...
The short short stories A Retrieved Reformation and After Twenty Years written by O.Henry has
a theme of loyalty. Loyalty is staying true and being willing to sacrifice your own self interests
for the sake of whoever, or whatever you are loyal to. Most of O.Henry s characters display
loyalty, making it easy to see the common theme amongst his stories. The theme of loyalty is
present in the short story After Twenty Years. The two main characters are friends, but while
one of the friends named Silky Bob is loyal to his friend Jimmy Wells, Jimmy was more loyal to his
job. I (Silky Bob) know Jimmy will meet me here if he s alive, for he always was the truest,

Gender Differences Between Hercules And Hercules
As Hercules stumbled upon the den of the Nemean lion, he could see it sleeping soundly.
Hercules pulled out his arrow from the pouch behind his back, he aimed it towards the lion. He
let go of the arrow and as it flew between his fingers it repelled off the sleeping lion. The lion
awoke and roared so much that the trees flew back. As the lionwas roaring every hair on his mane
stood up on end. Hercules pulled out another one of his arrow and aimed it toward the lions right
eye. The lion jumped up as he let go of the arrow, avoiding the it. He was surprised that his
golden arrow couldn t pierce the lion s hide. The angry lion flung towards hercules, jumping on

Perry Patetic s Essay
The 21st century has opened up new ways of travel for the newer and future generations. Perry
Patetic in his passage suggests that due to the level of mobility in our lifetime there lacks the
close relationships of living in one general area. He continues by listing hypothetical advantages
and disadvantages of traveling. The authors purpose is to point out that the current generations
have become less attached to other people and should stay in one spot and create close
relationships. The author creates a monotone tone for our generation and generations to come.
Due to the easy access of traveling, people tend to leave behind close friends and parts of their
past. ...that makes it too easy for us to move away from the people and our past.

Aristotle s Pre-Islamic Theory
The theory of how common illnesses were sent from the gods as a form of punishment along
with how healing as a gift used to be a common theory in the Ancient Greek times. Little by little
this theory changed over time with the help of Greek philosophers Empedocles, Aristotle, and
Hippocates. The hurmoral theory developed in Ancient Greese around 470 400 B.C, by a Greek
Physician Hippocates. This theory developed as time passed and our understanding of how the
world worked. It also had a significant influence on modern day medicine. By this theory
developing throughout the ages it can easily be described as the bench mark of human anatomy and
the medical profession that we now know today. The influence and development in Greek and
Islamic Medicine and the culture was amazing.
The Greek Philosopher Empedocles is a part of the Pre Socratic (philosophers before Socrates).
He is best recognized for describing the four building blocks that construct the universe. His way of
explaining elements were depending on the mixture and the combination of fire, air, earth, and
water (page 128) all matter was made from these four building blocks. Aristotle developed the 4

Western Medicine. His teachings added to the four building blacks by stating that the four

Blood Pressure
A reflective account of blood pressure testing during a clinical simulative skill session The
clinical skill that I have decided to reflect on in this essay is the manual blood pressure test that I
have performed on one of my colleague during a simulative clinical skills session. The aim of
this essay is to reflect on this experience, so as to learn from it, identify areas of concern and
increase competence in this skill accordingly. To start the essay it is the custom to at least give a
definition of blood pressure test, and understand how to interprete the results. I will then proceed to
reflect on this whole experience. I will continue by revealing two issues that I have encountered
while performing the blood pressure test, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I then proceeded to record my readings onto a piece of paper, as an Early Warning Signs and
Pain Chart was not available at this time to record the collected data. After the blood pressure
test has ended, I felt quite satisfy with myself, but after a reflective session I found out that I
have not done that well although the whole procedure was considered complete and successful.
Two issues that I have identified when using the Gibb s Reflective Model to reflect on my
practice are that I have not focus enough on my colleague s well being during the whole process,
thus I might have missed important cues that would have revealed information about his
emotional state, any sign of distress or anything that would suggest any discomfort (Jasper,
2003). And secondly, I feel that I concentrated too much on the actual process of blood pressure
testing and that I forgot to look after my correct posture during the later stage of the test. When I
performed my reflective practice of this blood pressure test experience, I believe that at some
point I concentrated too much on reading and recording the data, and that I might have ignored
my colleague s feelings and comfort at the time. I was probably more focus on the blood pressure
test itself than my colleague because of my inexperience of blood pressure

Racial Profiling is Necessary
In order to understand racial profiling, it must first be correctly defined. Although different
authors use different criteria for the term racial profiling, Merriam Webster s definition for the
word racial is of, relating to, or based on a race (Merriam Webster, 2006; p.855). The definition
the dictionary puts forth for profiling is the act of suspecting or targeting a person solely on the
basis of observed characteristics or behavior (Merriam Webster, 2006; p.830). Based on these
definitions, racial profilingcould be defined for criminal justice purposes as targeting a person
based solely on the characteristic of race. Most people, law enforcement officers included, would
consider racial profiling based on this definition as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He actually went as far as to lay out the groundwork for ethical color profiling. First, the profile
cannot be too broad and cannot include too many people as suspects (Corlett, 2006; p.28). Second,
ethnic background of the witnesses from whom the profiles are drawn must be taken into account ,
meaning that if someone is racist or has other negative characteristics, the account of race might be
false (Corlett, 2006; p. 28). Lastly, he argued that the same tactics must be used for everyone, no
matter race, class, et cetera (Corlett, 2006; p.29). Other authors had opinions on the topic of
racial profiling. In Crime and Policing in Rural and Small Town America, the authors bemoaned
the lack of research that has been done about race and crime in suburban and rural areas,
claiming that the research that abounds regarding urban areas is incompatible with suburban and
rural areas (Weisheit, Falcone, and Wells, 2006; p.38). They believed that by putting more effort
in to the area of race in rural and suburban areas, it will be proven that minorities are actually
underrepresented in the justice system in rural areas (Weisheit, Falcone, and Wells, 2006; p.38).
This argument could go further by saying that the current research that favors the critics side of
racial profiling might be inaccurate. George M. Fredrickson s work focused on the history of
racism from a historian s perspective and he believed that any profiling based on race is wrong

exciting without having the overly serious tone of most other thrillers. Unlike other films of the
genre there is campy feel, yet that doesn t deter the edge of your seat feeling the this film creates.
Rear Window is an oddity, it s a light hearted murder mystery that takes place from one setting, yet
very effectively pulls the audience into the experience. There is a constant did he or didn t he
feeling that keeps the viewer guessing up until the final dramatic conclusions. This is a good thriller
because it is effectively suspenseful and exciting. It is a great filmbecause it is fun, it s enjoyable.

Warren Buffett once said It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you

make a person deeply question how they decide to react to what life gives them. In the movie
Harold and Maude, Harold is displayed as an odd boy who has a strange habit of enjoying to
portray death, but only to get a reaction from his mother. Harold did not always have this desire to

People similar to myself may be considered goody two shoes, if that is still a relevant saying. I
think about my past and there has never been a time when I deliberately wanted to bend the rules
or felt comfortable doing so. I consider myself a classical person. I enjoy understanding the
mechanics behind working systems, but find it hard to be spontaneous and go with the flow of
things. I feel as if the classical kind of person is more likely to struggle living an anti
authoritarianism lifestyle due to the fact that for underlying objects to work there must be
structure. An example in reference to ZAMM may be the common topic of motorcycles. John is
very much pleased with his BMW because he loves the aesthetics. The outer shell, or aesthetic,
may be considered an authority. While the narrator of ZAMM may be more intrigued with the
underlying functions of the motorcycle, if there is no outer shell to hold and protect it then the
motorcycle will likely not be functioning. Similarly, if a classical minded person, like myself,

attention and consideration, how to support its growing geriatric population. Hospitals

Volcano Is A Volcano, Volcanic Eruptions, Earth, And Earth
What is a Volcano: A volcano is a rupture in the crust of planets such as Earth. They allow hot
lava, volcanic ash and gasses to escape from a magma chamber. Magma is formed from the
melting of rocks in the Earth s lithosphere, which is part of the Earth s crust and is broken up into
giant puzzle like pieces, and also from the shell below the lithosphere which is the asthenosphere.
The asthenosphere is a soft, fluid part of the Earth that can be pushed around because of the Earth s
warmth. Volcanoes form from eruptions. Once the eruption occurs the lava from the eruption cools
to form a new crust. After several eruptions, the rock builds up and forms the cone shaped
mountains or hills in which we call volcanoes.
What causes an eruption: A volcanic eruption is just a natural way that the Earth cools down and
releases internal heat and pressure. In an eruption, super heated magma from deep within the Earth
s interior works its way to the surface. They most often occur at the tectonic plate boundaries but
can also occur over hotspots or weak areas in the Earth s crust. The two most known types of
eruptions are effusive eruptions and explosive eruptions. Effusive eruptions are eruptions where
magma rises through the surface and flows out of the volcano as the thick liquid that is lava.
Explosive eruptions are eruptions where the magma is torn apart as it rises and reaches the surface
in pieces known as pyro clasts. Effusive eruptions are caused when hot basalt magma reaches the

The Similarities Between Zoroastrianism And Religion
Every religion has their own prophets, who are able to have access to a higher power, and guide
those who do not have this access. The prophet in Zoroastrianism is Zarathustra. Zarathustra
comes from the line of King Fereydun, a mythical king that Zoroastrians often use in their tales
they share with their children. Many Zoroastrians conceive him in different ways and are not
confident on all of the roles he played during his life. Some titles they believe he may have held
are fire tending priest, prophet, wonder worker, or philosopher. Zoroastrians believe that
Zarathustra was the first person to give a voice to Ahura Mazdas wisdom. He is known to be the
author of the Gathas, although there is speculation as to whether he actually wrote the... Show more

The topic is still argued whether Zoroastrianism had any influence on these religions, but the
similarities are intriguing. Evidence is hard to find, due to there being few texts available today
in the Zoroastrian faith. Ethical dualism is one of most obvious similarities between these faiths,
which is a belief in heaven or hell. Resurrection is one of the concepts that many scholars believe
influenced Christianity. Mentioned within Zoroastrian texts are characters called daevas , and
may be similar to the Devil. The book of Ezekiel mentions an apocalyptic vision, and may be
derived from Zoroastrian concepts. The book of Daniel also mentions an apocalypse, saying that,
Those who lay dead in the earth will rise, some will have eternal life, some not. Another similarity
Zoroastrianism and these religions have is of a savior figure. Scholars believe that the book of
Isaiah contains a section called the Little Apocalypse , which talks about God emptying the earth
and saving the righteous after wiping the planet clean. In one of Flavius Josephus s texts, he talks
about Zoroastrians converting to Judaism, which could account for some melding of beliefs. (Rose,

God Created Light, And The Nature Of Sovereignty And Control
God created light, and it was good. God created day and night, and it was good. God created the
Earth and the oceans, and they were good. Then God said, Let us make humankind in our image,
according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over all the
wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth (Genesis 1:26).
Everything that Godcreated was good, but some of his creations were agents of evil and others
were victims. God gave humans dominion over the plants and the animals, and that was created to
be good. But, this dominion is misunderstood as it is read in a literal sense, and not within context
of the time that the bible was written. Humans are not given dominion in the sense of sovereignty
and control, but rather humans are to respect plants and animals, they are to till it and keep it
(Genesis 2:15). Pope Francis in his encyclical Laudato Si says that tilling refers to cultivating,
ploughing or working, while keeping means caring, protecting, overseeing and preserving. This
implies a relationship of mutual responsibility between humanbeings and nature. Each community
can take from the bounty of the earth whatever it needs for subsistence, but it also has the duty to
protect the earth and to ensure its fruitfulness for coming generations (В¶67).
God placed Adam in his garden to till and keep it for him. Humans are to do the same with the
Earth. Humans are to take care of and respect

Mental illness can affect the individual s relationships, their work, and their quality of life. Having
a mental illness is difficult, not only for the person concerned, but also for their family and
friends. Mental disorders can affect anyone of any age.
Reflect
Reflect on the way you currently think about mental illness . How is a mentally ill person
different to a, mentally well, person?
What are mental health and mental illness ?
Mental illness is very common. According to MIND (2009), a mental health charity, about one
in four people in Britain will receive this diagnosis at some point in their life. At any one time up
to one in six people have a mental health problem (Department for Health, 2011). Despite this,
there is a great deal of controversy about what mental illness is, what causes it, and how people
can be helped to recover from it. People who are experiencing mental or emotional distress are
often very reluctant to see their experiences as mental illness and

Coraline Neil Gaiman Character Analysis
Coraline is a novel exploring the experiences of a young girl who struggles with being ignored
and feeling different. The themes of the novel, such as knowing your place in the world, are
communicated by Coraline s responses to conflict and development. Readers are positioned to
respond positively to Coralineby the use of characterisation, interior monologue and setting.
Knowing your place in the world is an extremely important issue for young children that Neil
Gaiman explores in depth throughout the book. At the beginning of the book, Coraline is ignored
and feels like a young child. Coraline believes her name is a main part of her identity and therefore
tries to make sure everyone remembers it,
No, said Coraline quietly, I asked you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gaiman is able to make the reader think about how important a child s place in the world is by
using interior monologue and setting. Interior monologue helps the reader understand how
Coraline feels and shows the reader how she has matured throughout the book. Coraline s
interior monologue becomes more mature and sophisticated the further along the story the
reader goes. This helps the reader realise that identity and self worth are important within a child
s life and can change the type of person they are. Setting helps the reader realise the innocence of
a child s mind and why self esteem is so important. The Other World can be argued as a fragment
of Coraline s imagination, something she created within her hours of boredom. This theory
highlights to the reader that a child s imagination is important but can also be deadly. When a
child has low self esteem, such as Coraline, their rejection can result in horrible day dreams and
detachment from the real world. Neil Gaiman has woven messages within messages and has been
able to highlight an extensive range of issues within one novel. In conclusion, by using interior
monologue and setting, Neil Gaiman is able to communicate messages, such as a child s place in
the world, to the

Ferris Bueller Reflection Paper
Ferris Bueller is a male senior student who studies in a high school. His family structure is
considered as a core family; Ferris has a father, mother, and sister, Jeannie. Ferris lives in a well
decorated townhouse, which indicates that his socioeconomic status as a middle class family.
Also, Ferris s mother is a real estate agent; Ferris father works in a huge office and dresses up in
a formal suit, which indicates that his father has a well paid occupation. However, the movie
does not introduce Ferris s culture or ethnic background. The adventure begins when Ferris fakes
his sickness in order to take a day off and escape the test. As a student, Ferris is very popular and
every student adores him. However, the dean, Edward Rooney, believes that Ferris brings
negative influences to the whole student body. The movie mainly talks about the one day
adventure between Ferris, Cameron Frye, and Sloane Peterson. Since Ferris is a senior in high
school, which suggests that he is appropriately eighteen years old. Adolescents from age
eighteen to twenty five years old can be considered as emerging adulthood (Berger, 2015), so
Ferris is an emerging adult. His psychological development can be explained by Erikson. Erikson
developed eight developmental stages, while 18 years old Ferris will fall under the Identify vs.
Role confusion stage. In this stage, adolescents want to find out their identity by answering the
question who am I? Most of the adolescents will find their identification in sexual, political,
religious, and vocational aspects; however, there are also adolescents will confuse about their
identities. (Berger, 2015). Since Ferris is a well loved student and he is really confident about
every problem he faces. For example, he fakes himself as the Sausage King of Chicago, he does
not feel frightened by the manager; instead, he insists the original thought, which allows him to
enter the fancy restaurant. Certainly, Ferris knows who he is, and he also has a clear view of the
future goal. Even though he skipped classes for nine times, he knew that he is going to college
and over the summer he is going to find a job. There is no clear identification of what his
occupations in the movie; however, Ferris has a

Summary Of The Year Of Living Biblically
Summary:
The Year of Living Biblically, he spent a year following the Bible literally. I was a little nervous
about this one because I was afraid he was doing this to try to show how silly the Bible is and
poke fun of Christians. That was fortunately not the case. The thing about A.J. that I like is that he
just seems to like learning, so he enjoyed the experience of learning more about the Bible and
religion in general rather than trying to promote a cause. It was also interesting that one of the
reasons he wanted to pursue this topic was because of his son. He didn t want to raise his son to
be without religion, without a moral compass. I find it odd that he doesn t want his son to be an
agnostic even though he s one. A.J. is also a secular Jew, so that added to the interesting aspects
of the book to see him digging into his family history and also made his lack of conversion make a
little more sense to me.
Anyway, the book itself is just fascinating. He grows a beard that he can t trim. He wears white
clothes. He avoids touching women in general since it might be the time of the month where they
are unclean. He takes a seat with him at all times to keep from sitting on soiled ground. He travels
to Israel. He attends Jewish religious festivals. He talks to evangelicals and visits a creationism
museum. And even though he doesn t believe in creationism, he doesn t mock it either. He talks
about how intelligent the scientists there are. He s truly open in a way very

Olaudah Equiano On Slavery
Olaudah Equiano on Slavery, a book written by Olaudah Equiano
Pontiac, Two Speeches, one speech is from 1762 and the other from 1763 by Pontiac
New York Workingmen demand a Voice in the Revolutionary Struggle, an article from Brutus, To
the Free and Loyal Inhabitants of the City and Colony of New York
Everyone has a different view about Freedom and Slavery. In this book, It describes that everyone
has their own personal opinion of what freedom and slavery is. Olaudah Equiano had to deal with
struggling to live a normal life and since he had to be cautious so he wouldn t become a slave.
That is one of the most scariest situations to be in. Though he witnesses the sale of slaves in the
West Indies, Equiano himself is not purchased, and he stayed with the Dutch ship, traveling
from the West Indies to North America. There he is purchased and put to work on a Virginia
plantation, doing light field work and household chores. He is not in Virginia long before
Michael Henry Pascal, a lieutenant in the British royal navy and captain of a merchant ship,
purchases him as a present to some of his friends in England (Equiano p. 94)This shows how the
times were back in the day and scary it was! No one was safe and to live in that constant struggle
was even more terrifying. Pontiac believed that him and the other native indians should ve given
more freedom Pontiac exclaims, We are not your slaves. These lakes, these woods and mountains,

My Dreamland Journey
There was approximately 586 miles between me and the place I was meant to be. Reno the land
where either your dreams come true or they come to die. I had tried so hard not to go, the
journey was hard but worth it. My Mother and Father were the ones that helped me get to where
I am. My father packed all my of my belongings for the journey to the dreamland. The plan was to
leave in the morning, little did we know there was so much we could not pack for, this was also
a mental trip. In the morning we packed all of my belongings into our automatic carriage, the
journey is set to take off. We leave for our trip and we will leave as a pair but only one of us will
return to the homeland. My father says that it will be a couple of hours before we reach a place
for some food so it is crucial for us to have full stomachs as we leave but we do not. So we have
to stop as soon as we can for some food. Off to the side of the road we see a maiden selling some
fruit that could quench not only our empty stomach but it will give us some important nutrients
that actually make our taste buds blossom unlike the bland water that we packed for our long
journey. We stop and the fair maiden says that her fruit is the best of the land, My father and I are
very skeptical of this, because the fruit looked dry, weathered and not very appetizing. We needed
some sort of nourishment to survive the trip to the promise land, we purchased the weathered fruit
and to our surprise this was some of the best

The Canadian Oil Industry s Impact On Canada
A Nation at a Cross Road: The Canadian Oil Industry s Impact on Canada The Overview:
Diverse and multi faceted, the Canadian business market is one of the strongest functioning
mixed market economies in the world. Within the Canadian economy, the oil and gas sector
stands as one of the largest and most influential sectors. The oil and gas industry is unique as it
affects almost every person and sector of the economy worldwide, whether it is through
commodity or material input costs. In Canada, this growing industry could allow for the country
to be the one of the biggest energy producers in the world leading to a massive paradigm shift
globally. The question that has arisen from this shift is whether or not the Canadian oil and gas
industry inclusive of the upstream, and midstream sectors, has a net positive benefit to Canada.
This essay will explore and seek to understand the myriad of issues that this industry faces daily.
The reason this question has to be answered is simple, Canada sits at a very important junction in
its evolution; does it continue to push forward to become an energy superpower or does it let the
environmental conversation win, pushing forward instead with a clean energy agenda? This essay
will hopefully drive this conversation forward. Research and Analysis: Part 1: Canadian Upstream
Sector (Drilling and Production) The first of three pillars that make up the oil and gas industry in
Canada is the upstream sector, which is comprised of

Anthropology, Cultural Studies, And Physical Anthropology
The study of anthropology traverse across four subfields that focus in archaeology, linguistics,
cultural studies, and physical anthropology. Each field can specialize in an area of expertise. For
physical anthropology, the sub discipline bioarchaeology, incorporates both physical studies of
human remains while contextualizing the data found from archaeological evidence and other
sciences. One researcher explains that, information from the human skeletoncan be combined with
historical documents and material culture to understand social processes on multiple scales,
(Hollimon 2011, 163). Bioarchaeology is unique in that it bridges biology and social science to
create new theories and ask more meaningful questions. The virtuosity of bioarchaeology and why
it is important is that it is a heavy question based field. It contextualizes all fields of anthropology
that can span into answering specific questions asked by researchers in archaeology, culture studies,
and physical anthropology. The questions that bioarchaeologists seek to answer can range from
demography, diet, identity, food ways, and mortuary analysis. In general, the study of genderin
anthropology is a relatively recent phenomenon that covers all subfields. Since anthropology is the
study of all things human, it is interesting that study of identity and gender are only recently in the
field. McGee and Warms (2012), claim the trend in studying gender lies within identities that do not
fit traditional western

My two texts are The Namesake and Bend it like Beckham . Our prescribed text, Jhumpa Lahiris

He is bewildered as to why his father named him Gogol as it not Bengali nor a normal American
name which leads him to struggle to understand himself and his identity. In Bengali families,
individual names are sacred, inviolable. They are not meant to be inherited or shared (28).
However, Gogol grows up living in America, where children are often ashamed of their
differences from others. As a teenager, Gogol desires to blend in and to live unnoticed. This
presents a struggle between two cultures. Ashima and Ashoke want to raise Gogol and his
younger sister with Bengali culture and values. On the other hand Gogol grew wanting to
belong by relating mostly to peers and the surrounding culture in America. It is only much later
in their lives that they begin to truly value their Bengali heritage and that Gogol finds the
importance in his name. During high school Gogol struggles to accept his name as he sees it has
no real significance not him. When Gogol heads for college he rejects his identity completely
and legally changes his name to Nikhil which allows him to somewhat feel a sense of belonging
as this name relates to his Bengali roots, even though he had been ashamed of those exact roots
in schooling. Gogol dreads having to go visit home and return to a life where he is Gogol . To him,
Gogol is not only his name; it bears all his discomfort and struggles to fit into two different cultures
as he grew up. His life at college makes it easy for Gogol to live as

Why Do We Study Our Times
Why did the authors do the study? We don t remember our past as accurately as we would like to
believe. It is impossible to remember every detail of our lives. Because of this serious revisions
and important distortions occur over time. We use self schemas to organize our personal history.
Memories become less accurate and increasingly coherent over the years. We rewrite our
personal histories. We aren t lying about our past we re just misremembering the way it fits with
our schemas. This is why Ross, McFarland, and Fletcher conducted this experiment. They wanted
to shed some light on how this came about. What did they do? There were 54 males and 47
females subjects recruited from the University of Waterloo. The questionnaire on attitude was
completed by thirty five subjects and 66 subjects completed the assessed behavior recall
questionnaire. A pretest was conducted to select the attitudes issues for the study. The subjects
were exposed to a communication that was favorable or unfavorable toward tooth brushing. The
remaining subjects were exposed to a communication that was favorable or unfavorable toward
bathing. The subjects were taken to a room in groups of 2 to 5 and were told they would be
listening to a university radio program dealing with current health problems. They were told... Show

The Contrasting Views of Pro-Slavery vs. Abolitionist Essay
Throughout the history of mankind, slavery has existed in one form or another. Since the times of
ancient civilizations to modern era subjugations, there have forces who feel strongly of its
necessity and purpose, while others have devoted themselves to seeing the ideas and acts of
slavery abolished. America is not an exception to the concept of slaveryand during the nation s early
history, parties from both sides have been made famous for their beliefs in the continuation or the
denouncement of slavery in the United States. To understand the contrasting views of pro slavery
advocates versus abolitionists in antebellum America, a comparison of the individual positions must
be made to further understand the goals of each party. A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Samuel Cartwright was a physician and pro slavery advocate during the 1800 s and is well
known for his diagnosis of drapetomania, a supposed disease that made slaves runaway. He
concluded that the reason African slaves sought to escape was because they were treated
inadequately by their masters. Delving deeper in his writings it is discovered he too, like
George Fitzhugh, approved of enslavement. Both men advocated the issue and have similar
analyzes on how slaves are or should be treated. Cartwright expresses to his audience that slaves
will most likely run (drapetomania) if they are treated poorly by their master; according to my
experience, the genu flexit the awe and reverence, must be exacted from them, or they will
despise their masters, become rude and ungovernable, and run away, (Cartwright). Dr.
Cartwright believed if slaves were managed properly they would be less likely to run and create
undesirable situations for the owners; If treated kindly, well fed and clothed, with fuel enough to
keep a small fire burning all night separated into families, each family having its own house not
permitted to run about at night to visit their neighbors, to receive visits or use intoxicating liquors,
and not overworked or exposed too much to the weather, they are very easily governed more so

Moral Panic And Its Effects On Society
Moral panic is a condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges to become defined as a
threat to societal values and interests and its nature is presented in a stylized and stereotypical
fashion by the mass media; the moral barricades are manned by editors, bishops, politicians and
other right thinking people; socially accredited experts pronounce their diagnoses and solutions;
ways of coping are evolved or resorted to; the condition then disappears, submerges or
deteriorates and becomes more visible (Cohen, 1973, p.9). This means moral panic is an
exaggeration or distortion of some perceived deviant behaviour by the media. In contemporary
context, moral panics are not just one off events, it is their reappearance that confirms their
status as moral disturbances of any significant order (Marsh and Melville, 2011, p.7). Basically
moral panics are social issues that relate to real fears about a particular behaviour such as
paedophilia due to the exaggeration of media influence. Throughout the ages, media and society
have been concerned over children. Instead of youth as folk devils, children nowadays serve as
the victims of folk devils (Critcher, 2002, p.532). With these trigger events popping up,
stereotypes are gradually formed. In recent British history, Paedophile had become one of the
most terrifying folk devils (Jenkins, 1992, p.99). Paedophile behaviour is a moral panic one legal
case and the panic is generally fuelled by the sensationalism of media in

Taoism And Confucianism
When the government structure in China fell apart creating chaos emerged two major religions,
Taoism and Confucianism. These two roles played a big part during this time to get things back
in order. The difference between both religions is how they believed the structure should be.
Taoism was not into much of the government. They believe the least the government the better.
Lao tzu who is the founder of Taoism is known for saying Govern a great nation as you would cook
a small fish do not overdo it (p. 180). By doing so, they will live a simple quiet life. In
Confucianism, their belief is much different. The Confucians believe in a big government with an

As an infant, his parents sent him into the sea for safety. He was rescued by the daughter of the
pharaoh of Egypt (p. 245). The difference with Moses was raised in a royal family not born into
one. This stood out to me for the fact that both came from different classes of a family with a
purpose in life. It shows you do not have to be wealthy to have a purpose in life.
Another thing both Moses and Zoroaster had in common was they were both called by God at
an older age to find out their purpose in life. At a crucial time in Zoroaster s life, he had a vision
of Vohu Mana an archangel who appeared in the size of a man. He was told there is only one
true God, Ahura Mazda and he would become a prophet. This archangel continued to appear to
Zoroaster several more times as he continued to preach the revelation of Ahura Mazda (p. 227).
Like Zoroaster, Moses was in a crucial part in his life after being exiled to the Sinai Desert for
killing an Egyptian in self defense when the God of Abraham appeared to him. The difference is
God revealed himself to Moses speaking through a burning bush. God commanded Moses to return
to Egypt and free the Israelites from slavery. God continued guiding Moses to freedom. This stood
out to me because I am familiar with this story and learned more about it.
Finally, there are the beliefs of the souls after death. Both Zoroastrianism and Judaism believe the
souls go to a place after they leave the body.

Analysis Of The Movie Kabuki
1.Kabuki Kabuki is a style of Japanese theater that evolved from Noh theater. Noh was slow,
contemplative, and philosophical, and eventually became so refined that it was considered
inaccessible and reserved for the educated upper classes. Kabuki was developed by the rising
middle class as popular entertainment, and included stylized fighting, aerial stunts, exaggerated
makeup and costuming, and physical and verbal comedy.
2.Nixon in China Nixon in China is an American opera portraying President Nixon s historic visit
to China. The opera pulls influences from the highly stylized Beijing opera performance style, and
portrays the clash of Asian and Western cultures that was manifested in the US tense relationship
with China prior to Nixon s visit.
3.Center Stage Left In traditional western theater stages (as opposed to street theater or theater in
the round) this is an area of the stage that is about halfway between the front edge and the back
wall, and to the left (as you are facing the audience) of the middle of the stage.
4.Prop a prop is any object that the actor can use to assist in conveying motion, meaning, or energy.
Props are representative of the setting in which a play takes place; for example, a water bottle is
representative of the type of technologically and economically advanced society that has the
resources to manufacture it.

Ethnographic Reflection
Raybeck describes several adventures and misadventures involving field research in his account of
the year and a half he spent in Kelantan. He also discusses the understanding, humility and scars
that these experiences may leave behind. Raybeck provides in depth descriptions of Kelantanese
society and culture. He addresses topics such as political structures, the status of women, kinship,
linguistics, and economics. Additionally, he demonstrates for us how challenging yet rewarding
anthropological fieldwork can be, and we see how he builds rapport in a researchsetting in order to
ensure that the information he acquires is reliable.

In fact, this extra effort to blend in with and accept the Kelantanese way of life is what perhaps
prevented Raybeck s presence from having an impact on the culture he was studying.
There are many instances throughout the ethnography when the writer appears to be going through
culture shock, and the impact of the culture he is studying on him becomes evident. For instance,
thed Kelantanese disregard and even contempt of the concept of privacy is something that takes
him and his wife some getting used to. Similarly, the ethnographer is confused when their dressing
in traditional garb is interpreted as him and his wife s willingness to convert to Islam. There are
other times through his stay when he is expected to take a stand on political and ethical matters, and
he finds himself struggling to maintain neutrality yet not earn the contempt of the villagers.
Raybeck encountered numerous ethical issues, including but not limited to prostitution, murder,
and smuggling. As before, the writer tried his very best to adopt a neutral stand, and participate
only minimally and if asked to by the parties involved. Raybeck quickly learns that one s actions
in such matters are what are used to gage one s loyalty to a specific group or individual within the
community. Aware of this impact, he tries to stay as

  • 2. `` The Names `` By Billy Collins Essay When Billy Collins wrote The Names America was enamored by tragedy. Speaking of tragedy, the pain in his poem is shockingly detailed among few lines. The presentation of his captivating words, paints pictures in the minds of his readers. At least it did for me as I read this piece of his work. The United Statesmonuments Sept. 11, 2001, as the day that will never be forgotten, many would definitively agree. My insight on his work will reflect on the effects this attackhad on our communities, lives of Americans and the tightening of the security we hold in the U.S.A. Right off the top communities were hit hard, the effects of this event put citizens in financial binds. Although times were getting difficult it brought civilians, us closer together as a Nation. Offices, businesses, even corporations were put on hold, destroyed or damaged. Many relief funds were set up to help with supporting the victims. The dollar amount of damage done in the wake of this event had a towering number. Wikipedia states, There was $10 billion dollars of property and infrastructure damage. Moreover, a total of $3 trillion dollars in cost. In Result, the attacks of 9/11 included a greater focus on home life and time is spent with family. Radio industries responded by playing certain songs over the radio. Others took songs off the radio for less demeaning reasons, point being the main goal was to draw us closer to unity. • 3. A License Program Can Reduces Car Crash Rates Teenagers Driving Studies have shown that the Graduated License Program can reduces car crash rates by 40%. The GDL is available in all 50 states. Since the decrease of teenage accidents have been declining some states are making the GDL a law in the state. Car crashes are the number one death of teenagers, a lot of these deaths are by the use of technology and not buckling up. To begin, the National safety council reports that 28% of vehicle crashes , are caused by the use of technology (Klass Roney 5). Many accidents are caused by teens looking at their phones and the use of social media behind the wheel. If more stricter laws are set on phones in cars that percentage should fall. In general, the use of phones today by people is just about everyone and people should be more smart and not be using their phones while driving not just for their safety but others. Furthermore, the amount of teens that die in car accidents is Four times the amount of drivers twentyfive to sixtynine (Klass Roney 3). Younger drivers do not buckle up as many other older and experienced drivers. The more young drivers that are taught what the real impacts of not wearing a seatbelt can cause they would probably be more wise. Generally speaking, some young teen drivers do not see the seatbelt as being important, when really it is the most important thing in the car. Better drivers education for young/new drivers should be taken into account, because it better educates drivers on how to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Republican Party And Wendy Davis For The Democrat Party One of the biggest Governor races in Texas history, the race was between Attorney General, Greg Abbot and State Senator, Wendy Davis, Greg Abbot for the Republican Party and Wendy Davis for the Democrat Party. Both candidates have a lot to offer to the state of Texas, and it was a very nasty battle with many campaign segments bringing the opponent down, or trying to at least. Attorney General Greg Abbott will take the win and become the TexasGovernor, winning by twenty one points. His victory against Wendy Davis was worse than any Democrat has suffered since George W. Bushs race against Garry Mauro in 1998 (Heinz). Abbott s victory speech is very well said, and personable. He mentions his injury, his education plan, and securing the... Everyone who voted for the Republican Party candidate, Greg Abbott, voted for Hope over fear, unity over division, for the majesty of what Texas is and what it can be. words from our new Governor Greg Abbott (Heinz). Throughout the speech he never mentioned tactics on how he won the election, or critiquing Davis campaign tactics. He was just very thankful for being the winner. If you were to watch the speech, the viewer could easily tell he felt very honored, as anyone would, being the first governor elected in 14 years. Abbott talks about his injury when he was in his 20s and an oak tree fell on him, and paralyzed him from the waist down. You could see the emotion in his eyes, and his shaken voice when he was talking about this subject, and that it was a subject that was very sentimental to him. Texas is a state that provides many opportunities to many people, it does not matter what race you are, if you have any disabilities, or how much education you have; there are still many opportunities that Texas has for you. In his victory speech he wants everyone to know that he is living proof of being pushed all the way to the bottom, and struggling to get back up again, but with determination and perseverance anyone can achieve anything they want; they just cannot give up. This implies using the social factor of family influence in consumer behavior. 1. Shift marketing research focus TiVo s market research efforts were put on understanding current clients while it was not clear the total number of still available clients in the market as well as other important factors regarding buying behavior were not being considered. We cannot assume that everyone with a TV enjoys it as much as current clients do and feel the necessity to record their TV shows. The focus in current clients behavior and the lack of information about the rest of the market considering client s cultural, social and personal factors does not allow us to clearly see the potential for this product and more effort must be put on that rather than simple sales effort. Furthermore, it should be noticed that the results of the marketing research carried out by TiVo could be influenced by a set of other biases: non response bias; web users bias; reward bias; questionnaire length bias and formulation bias (the bi annual survey asks directly about satisfaction , which makes respondents typically score high). 2. Influence problem recognition From these learnings we can see that there was an important element in promoting the product which is referral and trial. This demonstrates that many clients would only recognize a need once they were shown the benefits of using TiVo. 3. Leverage satisfaction as a social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jeans, from the raw material all the way through to the consumer as an end product. The first stage is the supply chain for the production of jeans is to source cotton. It is also unclear to the consumer in which countries the cotton is sourced. As some countries like Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan tend to be much more risk prone for child labor, during the cotton picking season. The second stage of the production for GAP is the weaving of the fabric. Gap does not provide any public information on which weaving mills they use or where these mills are located geographically. Christian Dior New York, 472 N.Y.S.2d 254 (Sup. Ct. 1984). Further, while the law does prohibit one from representing themselves as another person, it does not prohibit one from evoking mere characteristics of another individual. Allen v. National Video, Inc., 610 F. Supp. 612 (S.D.N.Y. 1985). Individuals take engineering as something distance to their lives due to rigorous courses to get through. As some would say that it is not worth it, other clever individuals have figured this out. In chemical engineering, an applicant would not only want to submerse themselves in complete knowledge of chemical engineering, but also in learning qualifications that could get them noticed and hired. How Did Charles Darwin Contribute To Science It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change, this was said by Charles Darwin, a naturalist who developed the theory of evolution to explain biological change. Almost all things are somehow affected or reshaped entirely by scientific advances. Science plays a huge role in everyone and every things life. There are many scientist who have discovered, helped advance, or even invented incredible things. And in the top 100 influential scientist sits Charles Darwin. Just like any other scientist, his studies open doors to many more. His research and visions of common ancestry revolutionized studies in comparative anatomy, embryology, and taxonomy, and has brought together the basic rule of all biology. But Darwin s innovative idea of the process of evolutionwas received cautiously and remains in the minds of many scientist today. His idea made a huge leap, but there was a missing puzzle piece that was found by scientist Gregor Mendel who figured out that heredity depends on genes. So without Darwin s grand theory many discoveries enabled by the application of evolutionary tools would have not been made. The simplicity and accuracy of this quote may make a person deeply question how they decide to react to what life gives them. In the movie Harold and Maude, Harold is displayed as an odd boy who has a strange habit of enjoying to portray death, but only to get a reaction from his mother. Harold did not always have this desire to scare his mother, but one day when his mother was told of his death he enjoyed the reaction so much it changed how he lived life. The outer shell, or aesthetic, may be considered an authority. • 36. Volcano Is A Volcano, Volcanic Eruptions, Earth, And Earth What is a Volcano: A volcano is a rupture in the crust of planets such as Earth. They allow hot lava, volcanic ash and gasses to escape from a magma chamber. Magma is formed from the melting of rocks in the Earth s lithosphere, which is part of the Earth s crust and is broken up into giant puzzle like pieces, and also from the shell below the lithosphere which is the asthenosphere. The asthenosphere is a soft, fluid part of the Earth that can be pushed around because of the Earth s warmth. Volcanoes form from eruptions. Once the eruption occurs the lava from the eruption cools to form a new crust. After several eruptions, the rock builds up and forms the cone shaped mountains or hills in which we call volcanoes. What causes an eruption: A volcanic eruption is just a natural way that the Earth cools down and releases internal heat and pressure. In an eruption, super heated magma from deep within the Earth s interior works its way to the surface. They most often occur at the tectonic plate boundaries but can also occur over hotspots or weak areas in the Earth s crust. The two most known types of eruptions are effusive eruptions and explosive eruptions. Effusive eruptions are eruptions where magma rises through the surface and flows out of the volcano as the thick liquid that is lava. Explosive eruptions are eruptions where the magma is torn apart as it rises and reaches the surface in pieces known as pyro clasts. Effusive eruptions are caused when hot basalt magma reaches the ... The prophet in Zoroastrianism is Zarathustra. Zarathustra comes from the line of King Fereydun, a mythical king that Zoroastrians often use in their tales they share with their children. Many Zoroastrians conceive him in different ways and are not confident on all of the roles he played during his life. Some titles they believe he may have held are fire tending priest, prophet, wonder worker, or philosopher. Evidence is hard to find, due to there being few texts available today in the Zoroastrian faith. Ethical dualism is one of most obvious similarities between these faiths, which is a belief in heaven or hell. Resurrection is one of the concepts that many scholars believe influenced Christianity. Mentioned within Zoroastrian texts are characters called daevas , and may be similar to the Devil. The book of Ezekiel mentions an apocalyptic vision, and may be derived from Zoroastrian concepts. The book of Daniel also mentions an apocalypse, saying that, Those who lay dead in the earth will rise, some will have eternal life, some not. Another similarity Zoroastrianism and these religions have is of a savior figure. Scholars believe that the book of Isaiah contains a section called the Little Apocalypse , which talks about God emptying the earth and saving the righteous after wiping the planet clean. In one of Flavius Josephus s texts, he talks about Zoroastrians converting to Judaism, which could account for some melding of beliefs. (Rose, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. God Created Light, And The Nature Of Sovereignty And Control God created light, and it was good. God created day and night, and it was good. God created the Earth and the oceans, and they were good. Then God said, Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth (Genesis 1:26). Everything that Godcreated was good, but some of his creations were agents of evil and others were victims. God gave humans dominion over the plants and the animals, and that was created to be good. But, this dominion is misunderstood as it is read in a literal sense, and not within context of the time that the bible was written. Humans are not given dominion in the sense of sovereignty and control, but rather humans are to respect plants and animals, they are to till it and keep it (Genesis 2:15). Pope Francis in his encyclical Laudato Si says that tilling refers to cultivating, ploughing or working, while keeping means caring, protecting, overseeing and preserving. This implies a relationship of mutual responsibility between humanbeings and nature. Each community can take from the bounty of the earth whatever it needs for subsistence, but it also has the duty to protect the earth and to ensure its fruitfulness for coming generations (В¶67). Also, Ferris s mother is a real estate agent; Ferris father works in a huge office and dresses up in a formal suit, which indicates that his father has a well paid occupation. Since Ferris is a senior in high school, which suggests that he is appropriately eighteen years old. Adolescents from age eighteen to twenty five years old can be considered as emerging adulthood (Berger, 2015), so Ferris is an emerging adult. His psychological development can be explained by Erikson. Erikson developed eight developmental stages, while 18 years old Ferris will fall under the Identify vs. Role confusion stage. The thing about A.J. that I like is that he just seems to like learning, so he enjoyed the experience of learning more about the Bible and religion in general rather than trying to promote a cause. For physical anthropology, the sub discipline bioarchaeology, incorporates both physical studies of human remains while contextualizing the data found from archaeological evidence and other sciences. One researcher explains that, information from the human skeletoncan be combined with historical documents and material culture to understand social processes on multiple scales, (Hollimon 2011, 163). Bioarchaeology is unique in that it bridges biology and social science to create new theories and ask more meaningful questions. Because of this serious revisions and important distortions occur over time. We use self schemas to organize our personal history. Memories become less accurate and increasingly coherent over the years. We rewrite our personal histories. We aren t lying about our past we re just misremembering the way it fits with our schemas. • 50. The Contrasting Views of Pro-Slavery vs. Abolitionist Essay Throughout the history of mankind, slavery has existed in one form or another. Since the times of ancient civilizations to modern era subjugations, there have forces who feel strongly of its necessity and purpose, while others have devoted themselves to seeing the ideas and acts of slavery abolished. America is not an exception to the concept of slaveryand during the nation s early history, parties from both sides have been made famous for their beliefs in the continuation or the denouncement of slavery in the United States. To understand the contrasting views of pro slavery advocates versus abolitionists in antebellum America, a comparison of the individual positions must be made to further understand the goals of each party. Dr. Samuel Cartwright was a physician and pro slavery advocate during the 1800 s and is well known for his diagnosis of drapetomania, a supposed disease that made slaves runaway. He concluded that the reason African slaves sought to escape was because they were treated inadequately by their masters. Delving deeper in his writings it is discovered he too, like George Fitzhugh, approved of enslavement. Both men advocated the issue and have similar analyzes on how slaves are or should be treated. Cartwright expresses to his audience that slaves will most likely run (drapetomania) if they are treated poorly by their master; according to my experience, the genu flexit the awe and reverence, must be exacted from them, or they will despise their masters, become rude and ungovernable, and run away, (Cartwright). Dr. Cartwright believed if slaves were managed properly they would be less likely to run and create undesirable situations for the owners; If treated kindly, well fed and clothed, with fuel enough to keep a small fire burning all night separated into families, each family having its own house not permitted to run about at night to visit their neighbors, to receive visits or use intoxicating liquors, and not overworked or exposed too much to the weather, they are very easily governed more so than any other people in the world, (Cartwright). • 51. Moral Panic And Its Effects On Society Moral panic is a condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges to become defined as a threat to societal values and interests and its nature is presented in a stylized and stereotypical fashion by the mass media; the moral barricades are manned by editors, bishops, politicians and other right thinking people; socially accredited experts pronounce their diagnoses and solutions; ways of coping are evolved or resorted to; the condition then disappears, submerges or deteriorates and becomes more visible (Cohen, 1973, p.9). This means moral panic is an exaggeration or distortion of some perceived deviant behaviour by the media. In contemporary context, moral panics are not just one off events, it is their reappearance that confirms their status as moral disturbances of any significant order (Marsh and Melville, 2011, p.7). Basically moral panics are social issues that relate to real fears about a particular behaviour such as paedophilia due to the exaggeration of media influence. Throughout the ages, media and society have been concerned over children. Instead of youth as folk devils, children nowadays serve as the victims of folk devils (Critcher, 2002, p.532). With these trigger events popping up, stereotypes are gradually formed. In recent British history, Paedophile had become one of the most terrifying folk devils (Jenkins, 1992, p.99). Paedophile behaviour is a moral panic one legal case and the panic is generally fuelled by the sensationalism of media in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Taoism And Confucianism When the government structure in China fell apart creating chaos emerged two major religions, Taoism and Confucianism. These two roles played a big part during this time to get things back in order. The difference between both religions is how they believed the structure should be. Taoism was not into much of the government. They believe the least the government the better. Lao tzu who is the founder of Taoism is known for saying Govern a great nation as you would cook a small fish do not overdo it (p. 180). By doing so, they will live a simple quiet life. The difference with Moses was raised in a royal family not born into one. This stood out to me for the fact that both came from different classes of a family with a purpose in life. It shows you do not have to be wealthy to have a purpose in life. Another thing both Moses and Zoroaster had in common was they were both called by God at an older age to find out their purpose in life. At a crucial time in Zoroaster s life, he had a vision of Vohu Mana an archangel who appeared in the size of a man. He was told there is only one true God, Ahura Mazda and he would become a prophet. This archangel continued to appear to Zoroaster several more times as he continued to preach the revelation of Ahura Mazda (p. 227). Like Zoroaster, Moses was in a crucial part in his life after being exiled to the Sinai Desert for killing an Egyptian in self defense when the God of Abraham appeared to him. The difference is God revealed himself to Moses speaking through a burning bush. God commanded Moses to return to Egypt and free the Israelites from slavery. God continued guiding Moses to freedom. This stood out to me because I am familiar with this story and learned more about it. Finally, there are the beliefs of the souls after death. Both Zoroastrianism and Judaism believe the souls go to a place after they leave the body. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Ethnographic Reflection Raybeck describes several adventures and misadventures involving field research in his account of the year and a half he spent in Kelantan. He also discusses the understanding, humility and scars that these experiences may leave behind. Raybeck provides in depth descriptions of Kelantanese society and culture. He addresses topics such as political structures, the status of women, kinship, linguistics, and economics. Additionally, he demonstrates for us how challenging yet rewarding anthropological fieldwork can be, and we see how he builds rapport in a researchsetting in order to ensure that the information he acquires is reliable. In fact, this extra effort to blend in with and accept the Kelantanese way of life is what perhaps prevented Raybeck s presence from having an impact on the culture he was studying. There are many instances throughout the ethnography when the writer appears to be going through culture shock, and the impact of the culture he is studying on him becomes evident. For instance, thed Kelantanese disregard and even contempt of the concept of privacy is something that takes him and his wife some getting used to. Similarly, the ethnographer is confused when their dressing in traditional garb is interpreted as him and his wife s willingness to convert to Islam. There are other times through his stay when he is expected to take a stand on political and ethical matters, and he finds himself struggling to maintain neutrality yet not earn the contempt of the villagers. Raybeck encountered numerous ethical issues, including but not limited to prostitution, murder, and smuggling. As before, the writer tried his very best to adopt a neutral stand, and participate only minimally and if asked to by the parties involved. Raybeck quickly learns that one s actions in such matters are what are used to gage one s loyalty to a specific group or individual within the community. Aware of this impact, he tries to stay as ...
