Persuasive Essay On Childhood Obesity
Writing a persuasive essay on childhood obesity can be a challenging task that requires careful
consideration and research. The complexity lies in addressing a sensitive issue that involves not
only personal choices but also broader societal and environmental factors. Crafting a compelling
argument involves navigating through a myriad of contributing factors, such as dietary habits,
sedentary lifestyles, socioeconomic disparities, and the influence of advertising.
One of the difficulties in writing such an essay is striking the right balance between highlighting
the gravity of the issue and avoiding a tone that may come across as judgmental or blaming. It
requires presenting evidence that supports the urgency of addressing childhood obesity while
acknowledging the various challenges individuals and families face in making healthier choices.
Furthermore, the writer needs to delve into the scientific and medical aspects of obesity,
understanding the long-term health consequences and the intricate relationship between genetics
and environmental factors. Researching and presenting relevant statistics and studies is crucial to
building a persuasive case.
Addressing potential counterarguments is another layer of complexity. Anticipating and
effectively refuting opposing viewpoints is necessary to strengthen the overall persuasiveness of
the essay. This involves considering alternative perspectives on personal responsibility, the role of
government intervention, and the impact of societal norms on body image.
In conclusion, crafting a persuasive essay on childhood obesity demands a thorough
understanding of the multifaceted nature of the issue. It requires careful research, empathy, and
the ability to construct a compelling argument that encourages readers to reconsider their views
and take action. It's a delicate balance between raising awareness and inspiring positive change.

Cellulite Issues
Cellulite issues are a common scenario all over the planet with people plunging into
outside food and bad lifestyle activities. However, the good news is that people are
taking quick note and trying to curb the concern resulting into a fitter world like
never before.
The usual approach to fighting cellulite woes can be cardio and gym yes, but you
would be rather happy to know that apart from cardio, some yoga poses can
actually act as a stimulant to the cellulite loss in the body too! The best way to get
the best of the worlds is by incorporating and inducing 20 minutes of yoga with a
half an hour cardio session to see the difference yourself!
Thus, some of the yoga exercises to fight off cellulite fast are discussed below.
The Eagle Pose
To practice this one you would need to stand straight and bend your knees and then
try to cross the right thigh region over the left one and hook the right foot behind the
calf area. In case the hooking is unreachable a task, you can simply keep it on the
thigh too! The next step is to press the right arm while the left arm is underneath it
and pressing it all together while trying to sit. Repeat this with the other leg after
about six to right breaths. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next step is to raise the right leg at your back while the knees are bent and the
foot is facing the ceiling as you complete 20 repetitions. At the last repetition you
would need to try and lean forward and try to hold your right ankle with your right
hand and hold on for atleast eight breaths before you skip to the other leg.

The Epic of Beowulf
Beowulf is the oldest anglo saxon poem written in English. The poem describes the
heroic deeds of Beowulf in his fight against monsters. Even if the events narrated in
the poem take place in Denmark, the poem was transmitted by oral language between
the anglo saxon even 200 years after its creation. Anglo saxons did not consider
themselves british, but vikings, and their heroes were always from Scandinavia.
The author of Beowulf is anonymous. The original poem was written on sheep
tanned leather. Beowulf is not only the story of a young man that gains glory
against monsters or of an old king that dies fighting a dragon, but it is the story of a
brave man who, once young and invincible, chooses to fight against the dragon
though he knows that he s going to have a tragic end.
Beowulf meets all the features of an epic poem: it is a long narration of a national hero
( he is recognized, rewarded and glorified by the king himself and his people), his
travel on the sea, his adventures and the heroic episodes he s the central figure in.
Moreover, the main protagonist, Beowulf, is a brave young man, like Gilgamesh,
Achilles or Hercules, with more than human strength and wiser, more courageous
than others. Unlike the other epic heroes we have studied untill now, Beowulf is
giving us a detailed self description when he meets the king : In my youth I have
done many glorious deed.
The episodes of the poem are moving ahead step by step; this literary procedure is

Uganda is located in the center of Africa, having a population of 25 million people.
The official language is English, but many of the people speak Bantu or Nilotic
languages. Two thirds of the population is Christians, split about evenly between
Roman Catholics and
Anglicans, with a large number of Muslims and other various animistic religions.
Some cultural attributes that could get in the way is the language. Having foreigners

companies to balance informed knowledge of their own organizational cultures with

Green is ethnocentric and Martin is polycentric. Green is ethnocentric due to the fact
that he knows his company is driven by the philosophy and values of founder and
current CEO,
Lawrence Lovell. He is a devoted Christian and believes strongly that business
activities should embody Christian values. Green is concerned that Martins lifestyle
is inconsistent with HG s culture. He is also concerned that even though Martin s
ways are normal and legal in Uganda, they are not the practices of the U.S. based
company and are considered unethical.. Green is also concerned with the impact of
Martin s handing out of tips will become public knowledge in the International World
and possibly the hiring of close relatives to the government could cause more
extortion. Martin is polycentric due to he has always been fascinated with Africa and
its culture and studied this country in college. Martin believes in not drawing
attention to oneself and has learned to respect their culture. He has always shown
interest in working in Africa when he was hired and even when HG
The Walt Disney Company Understanding Monopolies
The Walt Disney Company Understanding Monopolies Overview and History The
Walt Disney Company is a major media and entertainment enterprise that is based in
Burbank, California and operates in more than forty countries with a worldwide
appeal. After going bankrupt with his first cartoon company Laugh O Gram in 1922
Walt Disney moved to Hollywood, California to start over (Campbell, Martin, Fabos
456). Walt and his brother Roy created the Disney Brothers Cartoon studio in 1923
and they signed a contract with M.J. Winkler to produce a series of animated
comedies which became known as the Alice Comedies (Walt Disney). In 1928 they
debuted Steamboat Willie, an animated film with synchronized sound that features
the character Mickey Mouse who would go on to become the world known icon for
the Walt Disney Corporation (Walt Disney). The following year the brothers replaced
their partnership with the creation of four companies: Walt Disney Production, Ltd.;
Walt Disney Enterprises; Liled Realty and Investment Company; and the Disney Film
Recording Company (Walt Disney). From a struggling cartoon studio the company
grew and expanded to include motion pictures, documentaries, and television
programs. The continued successes enabled Walt Disney Productions to make an
initial public stock offering in 1940 (Walt Disney). The Disney Empire continued to
grow with the opening of its first theme park, Disneyland in 1955. Additional theme
parks including Walt Disney World, Epcot, and its

During the Civil War, in 1863, Susan founded the Women s Loyal League, which
fought for the freeing of slaves.
Susan s work for women s rights began when she met a mother of young children by
the name of Elizabeth Cady Stanton in 1851. The two women worked on reforming
New York state lawsdiscriminating women. Susan organized state campaigns for
legal reforms and delivered speeches written by Stanton.
Elizabeth and Susan organized the National Women SuffrageAssociation and worked
hard for a constitutional amendment giving women the right to vote. Even though the
15th amendment allowed newly freed slaves to vote, women of any race still could
not vote. For ten years, Susan and Elizabeth wrote their newspaper, the Revolution,
focusing on the injustices suffered by women. In the 1872 presidential election,
Susan decided to register and cast a ballot to protest for women s rights. She was
arrested, convicted, and refused to pay the one hundred dollar fine. Susan Anthony
went to Europe in 1883, to meet other women s rights activists. Later, in 1888, she
helped form the International American Council of Women, which represented 48
countries.
At the age of eighty, Susan B. Anthony resigned as president of the National
American Women Suffrage Association, but continued to be a speaker at the
conventions until she died in Rochester, New York, on March 13, 1906.

1.1 What is representational similarity analysis?
Representational similarity analysis (RSA) is an analysis framework builds on a rich
psychological and mathematical literature, in which multi channel measures of neural
activity
are quantitatively related to each other and to computational theory and behavior by
comparing
RDMs. RDM is the representational dissimilarity matrix, which contains a cell for
each pair of
experimental conditions. Each cell is a number reflecting the dissimilarity between
the activity
patterns associated with the two conditions. The core of the of RSA is to use RDM
as a signature
of the representations in brain regions and computational models (Kriegeskorte, Mur,
Bandettini, 2008).
1.2 The differences between RSA and MVP classification analysis and the new
information
that can be obtained from representational similarity analysis that is not revealed by
MVP
classification or univariate analysis.
RSA is a particular versatile version of MVPA. It goes beyond testing of information
in
regional response patterns and enables researchers to handle condition rich
experiments without
predefined stimulus categories, to test conceptual and computational models, and to
relate
representations between humans and monkeys, and even to related across different
types of brain
activity measurements.

The Conflict Theory Of Social Groups
Intergroup Competition is the idea that social groups will extend from the desire
for a group to gain the scarce resources that exist (36 40). This idea is greatly
supported by the segment on affirmative action in the video (36 40). As said in the
movie, the idea is that scholarship money and grant money is a scarce resource when
students decide to go to college (37 40). In this view, the individuals who are against
affirmative actionare competing for that scarce resource (36 40). By using
techniques like affirmative action and racial and/or ethnic based scholarships
present the subordinate group s strive for power, and the arguments against these
resources are the dominant group s attempt to maintain their power (36 40).
Moreover, the strive to gain these programs is not just for their own individual self
interest, but is for the interest of their social group as a whole to maintain the
group s desires (36 40). It is in this belief that s the Realistic Conflict Theory resides
(36 40). In this, their exists the view that this conflict for scarce resources
subsequently produces prejudice, in which a privileged group has a sense of group
position and strives to protect it (36 40). This is shown in the video by the idea of
reverse racism, in which the dominant group tries to grain pity for their loss of
domination by saying that affirmative action gives African Americans an unfair
advantage, thus racially profiling the subordinate group while trying to maintain their
Safety of Genetically Modified Organism Crops
Even though GMOs are viewed as acts against god and are inhuman because of
mutations in the plants, genetically modified organism are the solution to end
world hunger and food shortages because Gmos can be create to grow healthier
plants which can be used to feed third world countries and Gmos can be grown to
be more resistant to weather which will enable us to grow food in any place on
earth, increasing the number of food for everyone.
Genetic Engineering is defined as a direct manipulation of genetic code inside of a
living organism. By the early 70s, scientist were able to directly modify and
recombine DNA from a monkey virus named SV40 and parts of a lambda virus.
Later in the following years more advancement followed increase the number of
scientist and achievement in the field in of Genetic Engineering. One of the ever
occurring arguments that has plagued the community for as long as the first GMO
was used in the environment has been is it right to manipulate life. The questions
today is that of much debate still. One of the biggest weapons used against this has
GMOs can lead to mutations and unknown side effect if eaten, however studies done
have shown that there is no effect whatsoever when eaten.
One of the many potential that GMOs are expected to achieve in the up and coming
years is the ability to grow food in harsh conditions and unsuitable conditions. For
example in china half the cotton grown in 2002 was genetically modified to produce
a substance that is
Accounting Information System Essay
Introduction The application of Accounting Information Systems has become
widespread among enterprises in Australia due to improved affordability and
efficiency resulting from their technical power. The vendors have moved from
desktop systems to cloud accounting, and it has led to a challenge of selection and
implementation to customers and users. This paper offers a synthesis of literature on
AIS in Australia, its history, development, and adoption, analysis of the current
market size and how the leaders in the market have managed to carve out their
competitive advantage. There are also gaps in the sector, in particular for customers.
Hence the paper also provides recommendations.
History
At the beginning of computerization, accounting software was automated and mainly
included modules such as accounts receivable, payroll, accounts payable and the
general ledger. McMickle (1989) provides that accountants were the only
professionals who first used IT related systems. Late in the 1970s, increase technical
accounting issues led to the use of technical assistants who developed and maintained
AIS for organizations resulting in the emergence of the system information sector
within accounting. In the 1990s, resources events agents (REA) were initiated and
with database technology advancement, new accounting models emerged (Walker
and Denna, 1997). AIS could capture data which sometimes was not financial related
accounting hence REA led to applications for detailed business

Essay on Life of Pi (Unabridged) by Yann Martel
The son of a zookeeper, Pi Patel has an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behavior
and a fervent love of stories. When Pi is sixteen, his family emigrates from India to
North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship, along with their zoo animals bound
for new homes. The ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone in a lifeboat, his only
companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and Richard Parker, a 450
pound Bengal tiger. Soon the tiger has dispatched all but Pi, whose fear,
knowledge, and cunning allow him to coexist with Richard Parker for 227 days
while lost at sea. When they finally reach the coast of Mexico, Richard Parker flees
to the jungle, never to be seen again. The Japanese authorities that interrogate Pi

If he makes it to land, Pi wonders whether to tell the truth about his harrowing
adventure or make up something more comfortable for the authorities. This novel
centers on young Pi Patel, an Indian boy whose family owns a zoo in Pondicherry,
India, but decides to move to Canada when he is 16. They manage to sell many of
the animals, some of which are also bound for Canada or the United States; they
are all aboard the same Japanese cargo ship the Tsimtsum. As soon as the boat
reaches the open Pacific, it sinks. Pi manages to get aboard a lifeboat, and then
discovers he shares it with a wounded zebra, an orangutan, a hyena, and a Bengal
tiger. Soon only the tiger is left, and Pi does not want to be the next meal. So his
job is to act as zookeeper, catching enough fish and gathering enough fresh water to
feed both the tiger and himself, as well as establishing separate territories for
himself and the tiger. And then there is the long, slow drift across the ocean. It is
not giving away anything to say that Pi and the tiger, named Richard Parker make

the story as opposed to worrying themselves sick with the suspense of whether they
will survive or not. It took 227 days, a truly amazing feat of survival. The tiger is Pi s
suffering, his burden in life. We all have such a bundle that we carry around, and we

Steroids In UFC
Steroids in UFC featuring Alistair Overeem Alistar Overeem is a successful
controversial UFC fighter that will be spoken further in this essay. UFC stands for
Ultimate Fighting Championship and it s based on mixed martial arts fight that is

surrounded by metal wire looking like some sort of cage. It s one of the most
brutal and most watched sport in whole world. People pay per view and enjoy it
worldwide in front of their televisions. UFC is a drug free sport because it s based
on pure toughness, strenght and mental strenght. There are three rounds and each
lasts only minutes due to fact that it s too dangeours for fighters to fight more than
15 minutes. Every each of fighter is a sort of super human that is able to do every
sport and be good at it. Their mindset is different from other people. They workout,
eat, sleep and do all over that again for getting a perfection in their flawless
techniques. Every fighter before fight need to get to appropriate weight because
there are few weight classes that fighters need to satisfy before entering Usic 2 a

Comparing Low Calorie, Low Fat, and Low Carbohydrate Diets
Comparing low calorie diets, low fat diets, and low carbohydrate diets involves
looking at how they work, what problems they have, and what foods are allowed,
restricted, or prohibited on each diet. Therefore, it is essential to keep in mind the
recommended daily allowances of each nutritional component of a diet at non weight
loss conditions. The major nutritional components of a diet are grouped into the
major categories fat, carbohydrates and sugars, and proteins. There are also vitamins
and minerals that are not a group of their own but are associated with each category

This diet proves problematic because the body s first response to insufficient
amounts of food is hunger, making it both difficult and uncomfortable to keep to a
low calorie diet. All foods are allowed on a low calorie diet as long as the portions
are kept small. This makes selecting a menu easy as there is nothing specifically
prohibited. On the other hand, it is just as easy to lose track of calories and eat too
much. One a low fat diet, the highest calorie part of the pie, fat, is removed. Fat
contains more than twice the number of calories per gram than protein or
carbohydrates. Removing fat is a way to lower overall caloric intake by removing
a large source of calories from the diet. Again, this forces the body to dip into its
reserve energy stores. In removing fat, however, essential fatty acids and vitamins A,
D, E, and K are also removed. The body cannot make its own fatty acids.
Therefore, it must get them from food. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat soluble and
only found in fats. This diet also proves problematic in that most foods advertised as
low fat are often very high in calories from carbohydrates to balance out the loss of
taste from lack of fat meaning that many low fat diets end up being very high in
calories thus negating the point of cutting out the calories from fat. Also, like a low
calorie diet, the body does not get satiated on a low fat diet and the same discomfort
makes a low fat diet

president, is seeking a third consecutive term, and has expressed that no international
observers will be allowed to oversee the elections. This has raised concern in
Washington, leading the House of Representatives to introduce and pass the
Nicaragua Investment Conditionally Act, as the Senate awaits to vote to pass the
bill, concerns both in favor and against have emerged in Nicaragua. The NICA act,
aims to prevent Ortega from accessing international funds if it doesn t adopt reforms
that promote democracyin the country. Nicaraguan politicians showed concern after
this call for economic sanctions against Ortega, and the government released a
statement saying that this Act is a violation of international law and the united
nations charter. The government of Nicaragua argues that this bill is part of the
interventionist policy that throughout the history of Nicaragua has intervened in our
international and sovereign political, social, and economic process. This argument
favors a No, answer saying that U.S doesn t cause a positive impact on Nicaragua s

Considerations For Effective Organizational Change
What Is Organizational Change?
Organizational change is the term used to describe the transformation process that a
company goes through in response to a strategic reorientation, restructure, change in
management, merger or acquisition or the development of new goals and objectives
for the company. The realignment of resources and the redeployment of capital can
bring many challenges during the transformation process and organizational change
management seeks to address this by adopting best practice standards to assist with
the integration of new company vision.
Organizational change is not just change for the sake of change itself. The major
precursor for organizational change is some form of exogenous force such as an
external ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If workers don t embrace or see the reason for change, resentment and resistance can
occur You have to emphasize the positive reason for the change and convey it to the
workers. This way, improve the chances of support.
For effective organizational change, you should create a transition management team.
You should also select a change leader from every department and conduct regular
meetings. This will comprise the transition team that can drive the change initiatives
and help facilitate and implement the initiatives throughout the various departments.
This also provides a support structure for the initiatives. Resources should be provided
to the transition management team.
Additional Considerations For Effective Organizational Structure:
Evaluation of the aesthetic appeal is essential for effective organizational change.
The plan should be clear defined goals and rationale and should be concise. Ensure
that the decision makers within the organization are onboard. Any change in the
policy affects the operation of the organization which needs broad approval at some
levels.
Ensure you adequately define the nature of the changes. This will help team members
and employees to interpret the core objectives.
You should measure whether the change has taken place or not. Often this process is
neglected but to ensure effective organizational change you need to have predefined
benchmarks to measure implementation progress.

Mercantilism And Cocaine
From Tradition to Addiction; A Brief History of the Coca Leaf Cocaine
Today, the drug cocaine is widely known for its recreational uses, as well as its
addictive properties. Roughly 500 hundred years ago the coca leaf was introduced to
Europe. Cocaine, the pure substance that comes from a particular species of the coca
leaf, has evolved from traditional usage in the indigenous community of the Andes to
the highly illegal consumption in America. Plowman (1989) a taxonomist from the
botany department in the museum of natural history of Chicago explains that dried
coca leaf has been used as a mild stimulant for centuries. The variety of species of
Erythroxylum extends to about 200 varieties. Most species grow on the tropical area

Cocaine took part of a small part of the initial triangular trade; it was one of the
many resources that Europe extracted from South America under the economic
theory of Mercantilism. Mercantilism is the economic theory that promoted trades
of goods from colonized nations to more powerful ones in order to increase the
wealth of the main land. Current day Venezuela, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, and
Colombia were the prime producers of the plant due to their direct access to the
zones that grow it. Mass consumption and production of the coca leaf did not begin
until the plant was purified into cocaine. The Chemical isolation and purification of
cocaine from the coca leaf (which varies from .5% to 1% of the plant.) started in
1860 by the German scientist Albert Niemann under the wing of Friedrich Wohler .
The triangular trade was the established trade routes in the eighteenth and nineteenth
centuries where South America and west Africa exported raw goods and slaves to
Europe where they became commodities to be sold back to the Americas and
Africa.. These route allowed the coca leaf to reach the German research. Exotic
commodities were gaining popular demand in the late 19 hundreds. When cocaine
was introduced in Europe it became popular in medical circles. The renowned
Austrian psychologist Sigmund Freud was a prominent advocate of its usage for
medical purposes. United States became a prime consumer of the drug in the late
19Th to early 20Th century. Products like Coca Cola and healing elixirs had the
purified cocaine as a main ingredient. In some cases it was advertised as a cure for
addiction to opiates. However, it became illegal due to the serious physical harms and
addiction concerns. Yet, with such great demand, an alternative market grew from that
Iron Rice Bowl Summary
During the 1990s China experienced very significant changes in its culture and
economy. Iron rice bowls were removed and the country began to shift further
toward capitalism from socialism. The idea and symbolism of the iron rice bowl
plays a big role throughout the history of China. It has a literal meaning as well as a
symbolic meaning that is tied to socialism. Where this socialist system lacks
competition the capitalist system that the country is converting to is built off of
competition. The story Iron Rice Bowl illustrates the transformation in China from
socialism to capitalismthrough the main character, Dong. Dong is a representation of
the old system, he is exploited by the new system, and then converts to the new
competitive system and improves his economic state through his business. The
economy and business world is the main focal point of the author. However there is a
direct correlation in the stories competitive business world to other parts of society
like education that bettersociety through competition. The author Qui Xiaolong uses
the story to express his belief that competition improves society through Dongs
experience. First, it is important to understand what the iron rice bowl is and what
its significance is in the Chinese culture. In the story, Iron Rice Bowl, Qui
Xiaolong explains that, An iron rice bowl was a figure of speech that evolved
from time honored tradition of eating rice from a bowl. When someone lost his
job, it was often said that he lost or broke his rice bowl (Qui 130). After the year
1949 a state run enterprise system was implemented into China s economy. Under
this system the State owned businesses and people worked for the State. The
people that worked these jobs would never be laid off no matter what their work
performance was like. The workers would have the same job until they retired
with a pension and benefits like medical insurance. These state jobs were referred
to as an iron rice bowl because their rice bowl would never break, meaning they
would never lose their jobs in this system (Qui 130). This system is socialism and in
socialism there is no competition. There is no motivation for people to go above and
beyond or to
Outline Of A Study On A Research Study
E. Conclusion
The final chapter of this dissertation is to reflect on the theories applied in the study,
to give managerial insights, and to highlight the findings in answering the research
questions. The implications for further research are also emphasised.
5.1 Academic Implications
The present research both provides confirmation of and adds aspects to the
theoretical, methodological and empirical position. First, the findings contribute to
Baudrillard s symbolic consumption (1993, 1994, 1988), consumers want a symbolic
exchange value to represent themselves and reflect their social class. His sign system
is useful to describe how marketing elements attach symbolic meaning to brands.
Apart from social status, the results also identify ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
Consequntly, further research can use these considerations as a foundation to
understand consumers purchasing behaviour and symbolic consumption.
Specifically, the study suggests that most respondents feel the need to develop their
self identities to be more mature. While, the netnographic findings also shows that
social values have a strong impact on the individual s consumption.
Fourth, although many recent studies have applied Aaker s brand personality scale
(BPS), the big five (2002), to measure brand personality, the study suggests that the
BPS may not be practical to apply to fashion brands since personalities can overlap.
For example, it is not as simple only putting women on a sophistication scale and
men on a ruggedness scale. The findings show that the individual s personality is
important, not only gender. A male respondent like Jo is more fascinated by fashion
brands than a female respondent like Pin.
Fifth, the research confirms the findings of Holbrook Schindler (1989), Leslie,
Sparling Owen (2001) and Grant Waite (2003), families and friends are strong factors
which influence the consumption patterns of young adults. Interestingly the results
from both interviews and Netnography indicate that primary groups like family and
close friends are dominant influences. Moreover, celebrity endorsements on social
media have become popular among young Thai adults
Essay on The Sounds of Rebel Without a Cause
Director Nicholas Ray was lucky to have a talented composer create an original
score for Rebel Without A Cause. Leonard Rosenman was born in 1924 and
studied music in New York and Europe. His work as a film composer and arranger
is very traditional, and has been regarded by some music critics as insignificant.
However, Rosenman received Academy Awards and Oscar nominations for his work.
Along with filmscores, Rosenman wrote theme music and scores for numerous
television shows. The score in Rebel Without A Cause is much like another film
starring James Dean, East of Eden.
The sounds and music in this film are very realistic, and to the point. There is not

Later on in the day, after a field trip to the local planetarium, Jim meets a group of
kids that are troublemakers and want to fight with him. As a conversation begins,
music also begins in the background, yet quickly changes when the gang wants
trouble. The music becomes fast, louder, and more suspenseful. The style of
mickeymousing, type of score [that] uses music as a literal equivalent to the image
(Giannetti, 231), was also used in this same scene. Jim and the character of Buzz
are fighting each other with knives, and at every jab of the knife the music changes
and becomes more dramatic and even more suspenseful. It is said that, music can
serve as a kind of overture to suggest the mood or spirit of the film as a whole
(Giannetti, 233). Later on, James Dean s character is asking his father for advice,
and the music becomes quiet, slow and mysterious. Another scene where the score
plays a vital role in the atmosphere is during an argument with Jim and his parents.
Jim and his father are yelling, and when Jim grabs his father as if to hit him, the
music turns scary and very intense.
Along with background music, sound effects play more of a role on the way we feel
than many moviegoers think, and although the function of sound effects is primarily
atmospheric, they can also be precise sources of meaning in film (Giannetti, 225).

That night, Andre stayed with a Loyalist attorney named Joshua Smith. While not
permitted to wear civilian attire, he got clothes and road horseback with Smith
towards Tarrytown, New York near British lines. Smith left Andre towards the end of
the trip and when Andre was close to his destination three men stopped him. These
men questioned Andre and instead of showing his pass that he was John Anderson,
Andre trusted the men and revealed who he really was. The men, who Andre thought
were Loyalists were part of the American Army, searched Andre and found the
information given to him by Arnold in his shoes. He was captured and taken to the

It has been said that Arnold should have been the captured and killed instead of
Andre. Major Andre made multiple impacts on the US National Defense. While the
mission he set out to complete failed, Andre broke down the safety net the US
thought they had. By gaining the trust of Arnold and setting up the plan to take
over West Point, Andre was the hole in what was set to be a perfect American plot.
If he did not get caught the outcome for the war would have been a different scene.
The Americans thought they had a fool proof plan when in reality they had one of
the biggest traitors history has ever seen in Benedict Arnold. For Andre to get Peggy
on board to help with getting Arnold on board took time and patience. The plan
would have worked fully if the ship, Vulture, would not have been moved
downstream after Andre got the information from Arnold. This whole incident made
the Americans realize that there could be more spies among them, and therefore
Washington had Andre executed, to set an example for future spies. The second
impact on US National Defense deals with the classification system that we use in the
Army and surrounding agencies today. Information like the plans and layouts for a
military installation would be classified secret or top secret today. Unfortunately, in
the 1700s, there was no system of classifying documents. This could have been a
deterrent in an incident like

06.05 Rate and Collision Theory: Assessment Instructions
Investigation of the Rate of a Reaction
Background:
The reaction you will be investigating is the reaction that occurs when an Alka
Seltzer tablet is placed into a given amount of water. Alka Seltzer is an over the
counter antacid and pain relief medication that is dissolved in water before it is
ingested. Each tablet contains aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), citric acid, and sodium
bicarbonate. As the tablet dissolves in water, the bicarbonate ions in the tablet react
with the hydrogen ions from the acids that are also contained in the tablet. The
carbon dioxide gas produced by the reaction is what causes the bubbling that can be
observed.

Be sure to write a detailed procedure for each lab design so that the same procedure
can be followed accurately by anyone who reads it. Include details on the setup, the
control of variables, and how the rate of each trial will be compared.
For each of your two reactions, most of the reactants and products can be difficult
to see, and concentration can be difficult to measure without the proper laboratory
equipment. Therefore, it is recommended that the volume of carbon dioxide gas
produced over a given amount of time be used to help qualitatively compare the
reaction rates of each trial. If you have another way you would like to compare rates
of this reaction, feel free to explain it thoroughly in your written lab procedure.
Be sure your instructions include multiple trials for each factor to help ensure that the
results of your investigation are more reliable.
Discussion and Conclusion:
Answer the following questions in complete sentences.
1.What two factors did you investigate in your procedure, and why did you choose to
compare these two factors?
2.What other factors did you need to control during your investigation? Explain how
you controlled each one in your procedure.
3.What was your prediction about the results of each factor tested in your two lab
procedures? Explain your predictions based on your knowledge of the dissolving
process, collision theory, and reaction rates.

29 November, 2014 Overfishing of The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna
By Fabian Durazo
Abstract
The main purpose for this research is to explicit what effect humans have had and
will have on the blue fin tuna. The Atlantic bluefin tuna is one of the largest, fastest,
and most gorgeously colored of all the world s fishes. The blue fin tuna unfortunately
however, has been facing a constant and dramatic decline in their species. With
overfishing, their numbers have dropped down to critically low levels. It is said that
throughout several years of overfishing, that the Bluefin Tuna has dropped ninety
seven percent. Bluefin tuna is one of nature s most successful ocean inhabitants. They

The bluefin population has declined at a steady rate for several years and despite
some measures being taken to manage the population in the Atlantic, it still remains
to be excessively hunted. The species is prized by both wealthy sushi consumers due
to its rich, fatty flesh and by fishermen who can sell a single catch for tens or
hundreds of thousands of dollars. Currently, this combination has brought the species
to the brink of extinction, with environmentalists claiming the species has no chance
to recover if existing fishing practices are allowed to continue. The issue of the
declining bluefin population is not simply the dismissal of catch limits, but also the
ways in which fish are caught. One of the most wasteful fishing techniques is the
use of surface longlines. These lines reach up to forty miles in length with baited
hooks attached along the lines. The lines are deployed in spawning areas where
hundreds of bluefin are caught along with other non target species every year.
Conservationist groups have encouraged the National Marine Fisheries Service to
ban the use of longlines in the Gulf during spawning season to give stocks time to
recover. In addition to longlines, purse seining is another wasteful, yet commonly
used, fishing technique. This involves the release of a
Role Of Social Class In The Great Gatsby
Following the industrial revolution of the late 19th century, the United States of
America was thrown into a tumultuous journey; a journey of wealth, power, and
greed. As opportunities for success and power arose, America evolved into a nation
known for its ingenuity and freedom. However, as investment and entrepreneurship
opened streams of currency across the country, the newfound recipients of self made
wealth found themselves outcasts among the rich, exiled for their lack of history.
Furthermore, the divide between the upper class and lower class grew exponentially,
eradicating much of the middle class and leaving the impoverished forgotten and
overlooked. Throughout his life, F. Scott Fitzgeraldpresented himself as something he

In this description, the use of the color white invokes a sense of purity and
refinement, symbolizing the gracefulness of the old money class. However, the
white symbol of purity is contrasted by the color red, which represents violence and
anger. For example, Fitzgerald writes: Inside, the crimson room bloomed with
light (Fitzgerald 17). In this citation, the use of the color red, on the inside of the
home, illustrates that internally, Tom and Daisy are plagued by anger and
insensitivity. Fitzgerald s use of color symbolism, specifically white to represent
the appearance of purity and red to represent the violence of reality. Further. the
notion that the old money class values and traditions are a facade and in reality
they are selfish conveys a lack of social mobility, as those with old money solely
care for themselves and their power. Within the novel, the residents of West Egg,
specifically Gatsby himself, represent a unique location on the pyramid of wealth.
They are those who began somewhere near the middle and are attempting to reside
among those at the peak. At first, those of the new money class have hope that they
can succeed, yet as they realize that they lack the social connections of the old money
class they fall into melancholy and attempt to cover their insecurity with lavish
displays of wealth. When describing Gatsby, Fitzgerald often uses green to

Edward (Ned) Kelly was an infamous Australian bushranger of Irish descent that
lived from 1854 to 1880. Black Snake is one of many pieces of literature that has
been written based on Ned Kelly s life. Black Snake is a historical fiction novel
based on non fictional events. Black Snake shows different perspectives on what
really happened, so the person could ve slightly changed the story to back up their
point of view. Carole Wilkinson is an award winning Australian author. All
throughout Australian history there has been a continual debate on whether Ned
Kelly was a hero or a villain. This debate has good evidence for both sides, so it
comes down to personal interpretation. In Black Snake, Wilkinson constructs Ned

Throughout Black Snake, Ned Kelly is described, using language, in a variety of
ways. Some people, such as Superintendent Hare, felt very strongly that Ned Kelly
was a villain. Ned Kelly was a flash ill looking blackguard.... Notwithstanding all
his boasted pluck and boasts, how game he would die (Pg. 127, Wilkinson, 2002).
Others, such as Ned Kelly s mother (Ellen Kelly), felt very strongly that Ned Kelly
was a hero and that police mistreatment towards him and his family was what drove
him to become an outlaw. Think what the police have done to me and mine, and
then tell me if you wonder that the boys turned and smote the ones who had so
persecuted them (Pg. 128, Wilkinson, 2002) Others, such as Constable Richards of
Euroa, feel that Ned Kelly did commit wrongdoings and did break the law, but he
was standing up for people that were struggling and didn t have a voice and
helping those being mistreated. He was a bushranger but he was the gamest man I
ever saw (Pg. 129, Wilkinson, 2002). The language techniques included in Black

The changing landscape of the luxury industry challenges brands to find a new
approach to reach out to their core costumers. Brands like Louis Vuitton, Guccior
Burberry are about to jeopardize their true customers and their image by
overexposing themselves to a mass luxury clientele. Thus, a new approach must be

In the case of outlet stores, brands are trying to sell their overstock, which has
highly increased due to mass production. Not only is merchandise that was once
available at a high end boutique sold for a discount price, moreover some brands
are producing some items solely for outlets (Edouard, 2006, 11). Assessing the six
main facets of a luxury brand, which have been identified in a broad empirical study
by Dubois/Laurent/Czellar and are considered to be global and most accurate, one
can review the situation of the luxury market today. The six main facets are (Dubois
/Laurent/Czellar, 2001, 8 ff.):
Very High Price (according to the absolute price (inter categorical) as well as the
price relative to other brands of the same category (intracategorical)). Excellent
Quality (according to the processed materials as well as the assumed diligence of the
manufacturing process). Scarcity Uniqueness (expressed by a difficult accessibility
and rarity). Aesthetics Polysensuality (creating through design, colors etc. a value
experience that touches all senses). Ancestral Heritage Personal History (continuous
branding in design, communications etc.). Superfluousness (dominant perception of
symbolic attributes
compared to technical functional ones). It is evident that at least two of the six
facets, namely Excellent Quality and Scarcity and Uniqueness, are not fulfilled in
many cases anymore. Industry experts suggest
Choose One Of The Four Mythical Archetypes
1. What are myths? What evidence points us to the universality of myths? Myths
are usually stories that have to do with how some things came to be, such as
religions or even to why the tiger has stripes on it body, instead of saying it s there
because it can be. Myths give a more detailed and more visionary and stronger
purpose to some small things in our world.
2. What is an archetype? An archetype is something or a figure that typically explains
a person or thing.
3. What are the four mythical archetypes? Write at least one paragraph describing
each archetype. The four mythical archetypes are, the queen of sheba, which is based
on a woman who was wise and had a cloven foot, such as a goat who was tricked by a
king in order to marry her and bare a child, the second is, Shangri la which is based
on a place were monks and people of peace lived in harmony ready to spread the
peace and save people who would come of need, then there is king arthur who was

a foot that was cloven, such as a goat. So he wanted to see for himself. He polished
his floors till they were like glass and as the queen of sheba walked across it he could

5. Using the myth that you just retold, what archetypes exist in the myth? How does
the myth compare and contrast to other myths with these archetypes? In this myth
one of the archetypes was the foot of the queen of sheba. It resembled her because
it was her foot that was shaped as so. The way that this myth is similar to others, is
the way they add how the queen had a foot of a goat which would be pretty

pouring the plaster over the pattern that he was trying to make, and then he shook
the unit to let the plaster fills any small features. Afterwards, he let the plaster sets
and the pattern is ready to be removed. Although, the used plaster cannot be reused,
however, Petersen chose to use plaster to make sculptures are because it is relatively
cheap and it will also create an excellent surface finish. One of the examples that
Petersen made by using plaster is the Abraham Lincoln sculpturemodel. He
Leaving My Life Essay
I m leaving a life that matters because my experiences have shaped me in the
person I m today. Many circumstances have made me realized that I possess gifts
and spiritual values that have helped my private life and the people around me. My
desire to create in this world drives me to offer valuable insights for living a life of
significance. Going back on my first paper, I can clearly see the impact this class
has had in my life. The paper in week 1 narrates my moved to the United Statesand
the different situations that happened ever since I moved here 15 years ago. My
life story started a long time before I moved here, but I can say the most important
turning points stared happening the day I moved to the United States. I don t
remember much about my childhood, but my mom tells me, I was a quite child, I
enjoyed playing with my dolls, and loved playing with my brother. I was a very
curious little girls, and I could ask my parents a dozens of questions a minute. As I
got older, I became a shy girl, but continue asking my parents questions about
everything. Luckily, my childhood marked my life in a positive way for the most
part. As I got older, I became a social person and even though I don t have many
friends, I enjoyed the few I have because we share the same virtue and authenticity
in life. As an adult, I have realized that I rather keep few good friends, instead of
having many, but not the support system I need in my life. Beside my friends, my
family have helped me
Mark Twain s The Thief
In The Thief, the main character named Gen is in prison for a good reason. He
was sent to jail because he stole the King s Seal, and a wine seller who worked for
the King in secret reported him. At first, Gen plans to find a way to escape out of
jail (he is a professional thief), but every day he still finds himself chained and
locked up with no way for escape. Later in the story, Gen is taken out of prison
because the King s magus (The King s advisor) needs to steal something for the
benefit of the King. Because Gen has been known to be the best thief in the world
and has also been known to steal anything, he is taken out his cell and has to follow
the Magus on a quest along with three other people, named Sophos, Pol, and

The Failure That Is Total Institutions
The Failure That Is Total Institutions Though effective at separating and isolating a
group of individuals, total institutions are not effective at their main purpose of re
socializing those groups of individuals. Socialization is a lifelong process for
individuals; it is understanding and participating in society under that society s values
and norms. Examples of socialization are entering a new school, job or country. This
type of social interaction is often voluntary. Individuals choose to adhere and to
recognize their new status and role in society by their own free will. The opposite can
be said for the re socialization that is found at total institutions, a bureaucratic
coercive organization. They control almost all aspects of an individual s life
(boundless.com). The term total institutions was coined by Canadian sociologist,
Erving Goffman who studied symbolic interaction in the form of dramaturgical
analysis (boundless.com). These involuntary institutions are divided into 5 types:
institutions established to care for harmless or incapable people, institutions
established to care for people that are incapable of looking after themselves and are
also a threat to the community, institutions established to protect the community
against perceived intentional dangers, with the welfare of the sequestered people not
the immediate issue, institutions purportedly established to pursue some task, and
institutions designed as retreats from the world while also often serving

Theories Of Criminality And Delinquency
Crime has been around since the creation of man, and specifically, since the fall of
humanity in biblical times. Since then, people have been trying to explain what
causes an individual to commit a crime. Although the Bible explicitly confirms the
origin of crime is the sinful nature of man, many have argued as to the cause of
criminality. During the eighteenth century, the argument for criminality and
delinquency was the fall of man, as the Book of Genesis explains, after Eve ate
from the forbidden tree, in Chapter 3. The first criminal act follows the fall of man,
in Genesis 4:8 (NIV) where Now Cain said to his brother Abel, Let s go out to the
field. While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
Since then, human beings have committed atrocities against other human beings, and
continue to commit acts of violence against others to... Show more content on

Moore starts with the definition of criminology and then proceeds to discuss five
categories of psychological theories related to understanding criminality and
delinquency (Moore, 2011). The methods used by Moore include a database search
using keywords, and consultation with an expert in the field. The problem with the
method Moore used is the limited categories of psychological theories in her article.
Since there are so many different theories attempting to explain criminality and
delinquency, Moore excluded those theories addressing crime and delinquency from a
sociological perspective, and focused on the psychological theories because the
psychological theories tend to address crime and delinquency at the individual level,
primarily identifying individual differences that lead to criminal behavior (Moore,
2011, p. 228). The psychological theories Moore discusses are Learning Theories,
Intelligence Theories, Personality Trait Theories, Theories of Psychopathy, and

Disaster, Characteristics And Management Stages Essay
Disaster Characteristics and Management Stages
The purpose of this paper is to examine a recent natural disaster. The number of
natural disasters has risen dramatically in the past two decades. Natural disasters are
increasing exponentially and creating expanding amounts of destruction each year. A
recent natural disaster to examine is the flooding in Louisiana August 2016. This
paper will discuss the type of disaster, characteristics of the disaster, and the
application of disaster management stages.
Current Natural Disaster
The morning of August 13th, Baton Rouge and much of southern Louisiana were
devastated by extreme flooding after 20 inches of rain hit the area in a 48 hour
period. Rescue teams are calling it the worst natural disaster to strike the United
States since Superstorm Sandy. This floodhas damaged 60,000 homes, leaving an
estimated 30,000 people displaced from their homes (CNN, 2016). The federal
government declared this a major disaster killing at least 13 people, flooding
thousands of homes, and prompting thousands of water rescues (The Weather
Channel, 2016).
Type of Disaster
There are three different types of disasters, man made, natural, or a combination of
both (Nies McEwen, 2015). The flooding in Louisiana was a natural disaster.
Unfortunately, in the past ten years there has been a dramatic increase in the
frequency and intensity of natural weather related disasters (Veenema et al., 2016).
Flooding is most common in the United
James Petrie Mackenzie
Introduction In 1875 James Petrie Mackenzie traveled by boat for a better life from
Scotland to New Zealand. James left Scotland because of the unhealthy
environments, there was also not much land at the time or money to go around.
Overpopulated cities were also a problem. These push factors caused many Scots to
leave their homeland in search of better conditions. New Zealandoffered many pull
factors. There was an abundance of cheap land, more job opportunities, a better
lifestyle and in many cases free passage to New Zealand.
Background of ancestor My ancestor who immigrated from Scotland in 1867,was
James Petrie Mackenzie. James was born in Aberdeen Scotland on 31 October
1850, he also grew up in Kincardine for many years. James was a blacksmith like his
father before him and his father before him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At the time there was a large amount of land for sale and new settlements were
being built which required skilled workers to help build roads, schools, and
churches, for an example my ancestor James helped to build a railway line from
Marton to New Plymouth. A history of this line shows it was built in stages with the
New Plymouth to Stratford section being built in the early 1880 s.
Pull factor 2
Another pull factor that led scots to New Zealand was that New Zealand offered
higher wages and much more job opportunities than Scotland did. Letters from family
members about higher wages in New Zealand Encouraged the Scots to emigrate over
to New Zealand.
Decision of pull factor there were much more opportunities elsewhere in the world for
most scottish people like, for much more healthy environments, and a better lifestyle,
and were many skilled and hard working people could earn better and more money,
and because there was not enough money paying with their jobs at the time, most
families would struggle to feed and clothe their
The Song Grease Is The Word By Bee Gees Meaning
The song Grease is the Word by Bee Gees introduces the 1978 film of Grease. This
musical has a combination of comedy and teen romance, which I believe is the
perfect mix. This movie starts off with Danny Zuko (John Travolta), your typical
bad boy, and Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton John), your average goodie goodie,
meeting at the beach during vacation. They have a summer fling and may have
even fallen in love. But, sadly, their romance comes to an end when summer s over
and Sandy has to move back to her native land of Australia, well at least they think
it is. Tell me more, tell me more! Danny Zuko starts his senior year at Rydell High
by bragging to his friends, the T Birds , about his summer fling. At the same time,
Sandy is telling

  • 4. The Epic of Beowulf Beowulf is the oldest anglo saxon poem written in English. The poem describes the heroic deeds of Beowulf in his fight against monsters. Even if the events narrated in the poem take place in Denmark, the poem was transmitted by oral language between the anglo saxon even 200 years after its creation. Anglo saxons did not consider themselves british, but vikings, and their heroes were always from Scandinavia. The author of Beowulf is anonymous. The original poem was written on sheep tanned leather. Beowulf is not only the story of a young man that gains glory against monsters or of an old king that dies fighting a dragon, but it is the story of a brave man who, once young and invincible, chooses to fight against the dragon though he knows that he s going to have a tragic end. Beowulf meets all the features of an epic poem: it is a long narration of a national hero ( he is recognized, rewarded and glorified by the king himself and his people), his travel on the sea, his adventures and the heroic episodes he s the central figure in. Moreover, the main protagonist, Beowulf, is a brave young man, like Gilgamesh, Achilles or Hercules, with more than human strength and wiser, more courageous than others. Unlike the other epic heroes we have studied untill now, Beowulf is giving us a detailed self description when he meets the king : In my youth I have done many glorious deed. The episodes of the poem are moving ahead step by step; this literary procedure is called

  • 13. Difference Between Rsa And Mvp Classification Analysis And... 1.1 What is representational similarity analysis? Representational similarity analysis (RSA) is an analysis framework builds on a rich psychological and mathematical literature, in which multi channel measures of neural activity are quantitatively related to each other and to computational theory and behavior by comparing RDMs. RDM is the representational dissimilarity matrix, which contains a cell for each pair of experimental conditions. Each cell is a number reflecting the dissimilarity between the activity patterns associated with the two conditions. The core of the of RSA is to use RDM as a signature of the representations in brain regions and computational models (Kriegeskorte, Mur, Bandettini, 2008). 1.2 The differences between RSA and MVP classification analysis and the new information that can be obtained from representational similarity analysis that is not revealed by MVP classification or univariate analysis. • 16. The Conflict Theory Of Social Groups Intergroup Competition is the idea that social groups will extend from the desire for a group to gain the scarce resources that exist (36 40). This idea is greatly supported by the segment on affirmative action in the video (36 40). As said in the movie, the idea is that scholarship money and grant money is a scarce resource when students decide to go to college (37 40). In this view, the individuals who are against affirmative actionare competing for that scarce resource (36 40). By using techniques like affirmative action and racial and/or ethnic based scholarships present the subordinate group s strive for power, and the arguments against these resources are the dominant group s attempt to maintain their power (36 40). Moreover, the strive to gain these programs is not just for their own individual self interest, but is for the interest of their social group as a whole to maintain the group s desires (36 40). It is in this belief that s the Realistic Conflict Theory resides (36 40). In this, their exists the view that this conflict for scarce resources subsequently produces prejudice, in which a privileged group has a sense of group position and strives to protect it (36 40). This is shown in the video by the idea of reverse racism, in which the dominant group tries to grain pity for their loss of domination by saying that affirmative action gives African Americans an unfair advantage, thus racially profiling the subordinate group while trying to maintain their

Genetic Engineering is defined as a direct manipulation of genetic code inside of a living organism. By the early 70s, scientist were able to directly modify and recombine DNA from a monkey virus named SV40 and parts of a lambda virus. Later in the following years more advancement followed increase the number of scientist and achievement in the field in of Genetic Engineering. One of the ever occurring arguments that has plagued the community for as long as the first GMO was used in the environment has been is it right to manipulate life. The questions today is that of much debate still. One of the biggest weapons used against this has GMOs can lead to mutations and unknown side effect if eaten, however studies done have shown that there is no effect whatsoever when eaten. One of the many potential that GMOs are expected to achieve in the up and coming years is the ability to grow food in harsh conditions and unsuitable conditions. For example in china half the cotton grown in 2002 was genetically modified to produce a substance that is
  • 18. Accounting Information System Essay Introduction The application of Accounting Information Systems has become widespread among enterprises in Australia due to improved affordability and efficiency resulting from their technical power. The vendors have moved from desktop systems to cloud accounting, and it has led to a challenge of selection and implementation to customers and users. This paper offers a synthesis of literature on AIS in Australia, its history, development, and adoption, analysis of the current market size and how the leaders in the market have managed to carve out their competitive advantage. There are also gaps in the sector, in particular for customers. Hence the paper also provides recommendations. History At the beginning of computerization, accounting software was automated and mainly included modules such as accounts receivable, payroll, accounts payable and the general ledger. McMickle (1989) provides that accountants were the only professionals who first used IT related systems. Late in the 1970s, increase technical accounting issues led to the use of technical assistants who developed and maintained AIS for organizations resulting in the emergence of the system information sector within accounting. In the 1990s, resources events agents (REA) were initiated and with database technology advancement, new accounting models emerged (Walker and Denna, 1997). AIS could capture data which sometimes was not financial related accounting hence REA led to applications for detailed business

So his job is to act as zookeeper, catching enough fish and gathering enough fresh water to feed both the tiger and himself, as well as establishing separate territories for himself and the tiger. And then there is the long, slow drift across the ocean. It is not giving away anything to say that Pi and the tiger, named Richard Parker make it to Mexico, this is given to the readers at the end of part one so that they focus on the story as opposed to worrying themselves sick with the suspense of whether they will survive or not. Comparing Low Calorie, Low Fat, and Low Carbohydrate Diets Comparing low calorie diets, low fat diets, and low carbohydrate diets involves looking at how they work, what problems they have, and what foods are allowed, restricted, or prohibited on each diet. Therefore, it is essential to keep in mind the recommended daily allowances of each nutritional component of a diet at non weight loss conditions. This diet proves problematic because the body s first response to insufficient amounts of food is hunger, making it both difficult and uncomfortable to keep to a low calorie diet. All foods are allowed on a low calorie diet as long as the portions are kept small. This makes selecting a menu easy as there is nothing specifically prohibited. On the other hand, it is just as easy to lose track of calories and eat too much. One a low fat diet, the highest calorie part of the pie, fat, is removed. Fat contains more than twice the number of calories per gram than protein or carbohydrates. Removing fat is a way to lower overall caloric intake by removing a large source of calories from the diet. Again, this forces the body to dip into its reserve energy stores. In removing fat, however, essential fatty acids and vitamins A, D, E, and K are also removed. The body cannot make its own fatty acids. Therefore, it must get them from food. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat soluble and only found in fats. This diet also proves problematic in that most foods advertised as low fat are often very high in calories from carbohydrates to balance out the loss of taste from lack of fat meaning that many low fat diets end up being very high in calories thus negating the point of cutting out the calories from fat. Also, like a low calorie diet, the body does not get satiated on a low fat diet and the same discomfort makes a low fat diet

Current day Venezuela, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, and Colombia were the prime producers of the plant due to their direct access to the zones that grow it. Mass consumption and production of the coca leaf did not begin until the plant was purified into cocaine. The Chemical isolation and purification of cocaine from the coca leaf (which varies from .5% to 1% of the plant.) started in 1860 by the German scientist Albert Niemann under the wing of Friedrich Wohler . The triangular trade was the established trade routes in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries where South America and west Africa exported raw goods and slaves to Europe where they became commodities to be sold back to the Americas and Africa.. Iron rice bowls were removed and the country began to shift further toward capitalism from socialism. The idea and symbolism of the iron rice bowl plays a big role throughout the history of China. It has a literal meaning as well as a symbolic meaning that is tied to socialism. Where this socialist system lacks competition the capitalist system that the country is converting to is built off of competition. The story Iron Rice Bowl illustrates the transformation in China from socialism to capitalismthrough the main character, Dong. Dong is a representation of the old system, he is exploited by the new system, and then converts to the new competitive system and improves his economic state through his business. The economy and business world is the main focal point of the author. However there is a direct correlation in the stories competitive business world to other parts of society like education that bettersociety through competition. The author Qui Xiaolong uses the story to express his belief that competition improves society through Dongs experience. First, it is important to understand what the iron rice bowl is and what its significance is in the Chinese culture. In the story, Iron Rice Bowl, Qui Xiaolong explains that, An iron rice bowl was a figure of speech that evolved from time honored tradition of eating rice from a bowl. When someone lost his job, it was often said that he lost or broke his rice bowl (Qui 130). After the year 1949 a state run enterprise system was implemented into China s economy. Under this system the State owned businesses and people worked for the State. The people that worked these jobs would never be laid off no matter what their work performance was like. The workers would have the same job until they retired with a pension and benefits like medical insurance. These state jobs were referred to as an iron rice bowl because their rice bowl would never break, meaning they would never lose their jobs in this system (Qui 130). This system is socialism and in socialism there is no competition. There is no motivation for people to go above and beyond or to

The implications for further research are also emphasised. 5.1 Academic Implications The present research both provides confirmation of and adds aspects to the theoretical, methodological and empirical position. First, the findings contribute to Baudrillard s symbolic consumption (1993, 1994, 1988), consumers want a symbolic exchange value to represent themselves and reflect their social class. His sign system is useful to describe how marketing elements attach symbolic meaning to brands. Apart from social status, the results also identify ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequntly, further research can use these considerations as a foundation to understand consumers purchasing behaviour and symbolic consumption. Specifically, the study suggests that most respondents feel the need to develop their self identities to be more mature. While, the netnographic findings also shows that social values have a strong impact on the individual s consumption. Fourth, although many recent studies have applied Aaker s brand personality scale (BPS), the big five (2002), to measure brand personality, the study suggests that the BPS may not be practical to apply to fashion brands since personalities can overlap. For example, it is not as simple only putting women on a sophistication scale and men on a ruggedness scale. The findings show that the individual s personality is important, not only gender. A male respondent like Jo is more fascinated by fashion brands than a female respondent like Pin. Fifth, the research confirms the findings of Holbrook Schindler (1989), Leslie, Sparling Owen (2001) and Grant Waite (2003), families and friends are strong factors which influence the consumption patterns of young adults. Interestingly the results from both interviews and Netnography indicate that primary groups like family and close friends are dominant influences. Moreover, celebrity endorsements on social media have become popular among young Thai adults

The style of mickeymousing, type of score [that] uses music as a literal equivalent to the image (Giannetti, 231), was also used in this same scene. Jim and the character of Buzz are fighting each other with knives, and at every jab of the knife the music changes and becomes more dramatic and even more suspenseful. It is said that, music can serve as a kind of overture to suggest the mood or spirit of the film as a whole (Giannetti, 233). Another scene where the score plays a vital role in the atmosphere is during an argument with Jim and his parents. Currently, this combination has brought the species to the brink of extinction, with environmentalists claiming the species has no chance to recover if existing fishing practices are allowed to continue. The issue of the declining bluefin population is not simply the dismissal of catch limits, but also the ways in which fish are caught. One of the most wasteful fishing techniques is the use of surface longlines. These lines reach up to forty miles in length with baited hooks attached along the lines. The lines are deployed in spawning areas where hundreds of bluefin are caught along with other non target species every year. Conservationist groups have encouraged the National Marine Fisheries Service to ban the use of longlines in the Gulf during spawning season to give stocks time to recover. Assessing the six main facets of a luxury brand, which have been identified in a broad empirical study by Dubois/Laurent/Czellar and are considered to be global and most accurate, one can review the situation of the luxury market today. The six main facets are (Dubois /Laurent/Czellar, 2001, 8 ff.): Very High Price (according to the absolute price (inter categorical) as well as the price relative to other brands of the same category (intracategorical)). Excellent Quality (according to the processed materials as well as the assumed diligence of the manufacturing process). Scarcity Uniqueness (expressed by a difficult accessibility and rarity). Aesthetics Polysensuality (creating through design, colors etc. a value experience that touches all senses). Ancestral Heritage Personal History (continuous branding in design, communications etc.). Superfluousness (dominant perception of symbolic attributes compared to technical functional ones). It is evident that at least two of the six facets, namely Excellent Quality and Scarcity and Uniqueness, are not fulfilled in many cases anymore. Industry experts suggest

Using the myth that you just retold, what archetypes exist in the myth? How does the myth compare and contrast to other myths with these archetypes? In this myth one of the archetypes was the foot of the queen of sheba. It resembled her because it was her foot that was shaped as so. The way that this myth is similar to others, is the way they add how the queen had a foot of a goat which would be pretty impossible. Many myths have some type of fantasy feature in
  • 42. Christian Petersen Analysis Christian Petersen was an American sculptor and is noted for the large body of sculpture at Iowa State University. Most of his techniques to make sculptures were done by using clay or plaster. One of the processes he replicated the artwork was by pouring the plaster over the pattern that he was trying to make, and then he shook the unit to let the plaster fills any small features. Afterwards, he let the plaster sets and the pattern is ready to be removed. Although, the used plaster cannot be reused, however, Petersen chose to use plaster to make sculptures are because it is relatively cheap and it will also create an excellent surface finish. One of the examples that Petersen made by using plaster is the Abraham Lincoln sculpturemodel. He

  • 47. The Failure That Is Total Institutions The Failure That Is Total Institutions Though effective at separating and isolating a group of individuals, total institutions are not effective at their main purpose of re socializing those groups of individuals. Socialization is a lifelong process for individuals; it is understanding and participating in society under that society s values and norms. Examples of socialization are entering a new school, job or country. This type of social interaction is often voluntary. Individuals choose to adhere and to recognize their new status and role in society by their own free will. The opposite can be said for the re socialization that is found at total institutions, a bureaucratic coercive organization. They control almost all aspects of an individual s life (boundless.com). The term total institutions was coined by Canadian sociologist, Erving Goffman who studied symbolic interaction in the form of dramaturgical analysis (boundless.com). These involuntary institutions are divided into 5 types: institutions established to care for harmless or incapable people, institutions established to care for people that are incapable of looking after themselves and are also a threat to the community, institutions established to protect the community against perceived intentional dangers, with the welfare of the sequestered people not the immediate issue, institutions purportedly established to pursue some task, and institutions designed as retreats from the world while also often serving

  • 50. Theories Of Criminality And Delinquency Crime has been around since the creation of man, and specifically, since the fall of humanity in biblical times. Since then, people have been trying to explain what causes an individual to commit a crime. Although the Bible explicitly confirms the origin of crime is the sinful nature of man, many have argued as to the cause of criminality. During the eighteenth century, the argument for criminality and delinquency was the fall of man, as the Book of Genesis explains, after Eve ate from the forbidden tree, in Chapter 3. The first criminal act follows the fall of man, in Genesis 4:8 (NIV) where Now Cain said to his brother Abel, Let s go out to the field. While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. Since then, human beings have committed atrocities against other human beings, and continue to commit acts of violence against others to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moore starts with the definition of criminology and then proceeds to discuss five categories of psychological theories related to understanding criminality and delinquency (Moore, 2011). The methods used by Moore include a database search using keywords, and consultation with an expert in the field. The problem with the method Moore used is the limited categories of psychological theories in her article. Since there are so many different theories attempting to explain criminality and delinquency, Moore excluded those theories addressing crime and delinquency from a sociological perspective, and focused on the psychological theories because the psychological theories tend to address crime and delinquency at the individual level, primarily identifying individual differences that lead to criminal behavior (Moore, 2011, p. 228). The psychological theories Moore discusses are Learning Theories, Intelligence Theories, Personality Trait Theories, Theories of Psychopathy, and Cognitive and Social Development

The number of natural disasters has risen dramatically in the past two decades. Natural disasters are increasing exponentially and creating expanding amounts of destruction each year. A recent natural disaster to examine is the flooding in Louisiana August 2016. This paper will discuss the type of disaster, characteristics of the disaster, and the application of disaster management stages. Current Natural Disaster The morning of August 13th, Baton Rouge and much of southern Louisiana were devastated by extreme flooding after 20 inches of rain hit the area in a 48 hour period. Rescue teams are calling it the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Superstorm Sandy. This floodhas damaged 60,000 homes, leaving an estimated 30,000 people displaced from their homes (CNN, 2016). The federal government declared this a major disaster killing at least 13 people, flooding thousands of homes, and prompting thousands of water rescues (The Weather Channel, 2016). Type of Disaster There are three different types of disasters, man made, natural, or a combination of both (Nies McEwen, 2015). The flooding in Louisiana was a natural disaster. Unfortunately, in the past ten years there has been a dramatic increase in the frequency and intensity of natural weather related disasters (Veenema et al., 2016).
