Persuasive Essay Bullying
Writing an essay on the subject of bullying, particularly a persuasive one, can present its own set
of challenges. Addressing such a sensitive and prevalent issue requires a thoughtful approach
that balances emotion and reason. One must delve into the intricacies of the topic, exploring
various perspectives and understanding the psychological and societal aspects associated with
bullying.
Crafting a compelling argument necessitates extensive research to gather relevant data, statistics,
and real-life examples that can substantiate the claims made within the essay. It involves
navigating through a plethora of academic articles, psychological studies, and anecdotal
evidence to build a robust foundation for the persuasive narrative.
The emotional weight of the subject matter adds an extra layer of complexity. Effectively
conveying the gravity of the issue without becoming overly sentimental is a fine line that writers
must tread carefully. Striking the right balance between empathy and logic is crucial to making a
persuasive case.
Furthermore, organizing the essay in a coherent and compelling manner is essential. From
structuring the introduction to developing a strong thesis statement and supporting arguments,
each component plays a pivotal role in ensuring the essay's effectiveness. The writer must
anticipate counterarguments and address them persuasively, reinforcing their position with well-
reasoned responses.
In conclusion, composing a persuasive essay on bullying requires meticulous research, empathy,
and a keen understanding of the psychological and societal aspects involved. The challenge lies
not only in presenting a compelling argument but also in doing so with sensitivity and awareness.
Writers must navigate through a sea of information to create a narrative that not only informs but
also persuades.

Cereal at the Store Study
Introduction Breakfast cereal is a commonly eaten food in the United States.
According to the website CEEREAL of the European breakfast cereal Association,
the first ever cereal was granola which was invented by James Caleb Jackson in
1863 who was the operator of the Jackson Sanitarian in the state of New York
(Ceereal). It would not catch on due to the long prep time needed to make the cereal
edible. In 1889 two brothers W.K. Kellogg, and his brother, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg,

consciousness may be an issue. I would start Friday night at Kroger at Brewers
Yard, which is a large Kroger store that also feature a liqueur store and a bistro. The
demographics is very diverse due to it central location and the surrounding
neighborhoods. This store can cater to traditional working class urbanites to the
affluent suburbanite who works downtown and stop at this location to buy
groceries before going home. Given this diverse clientele I concluded this store
would be a good store to observe. When I enter the store the first thing I did was
walk towards the cereal Aisle which is in the middle of the store. Once I was in the
cereal aisle, I would notice that besides cereal the also contained other breakfast
foods such as Pop Tarts, breakfast bars, and oatmeal. The aisle also contained
products to make other breakfast food such as an egg poacher and a breakfast
sandwich maker. Finally I would observe that the area also was where the Tea and
hot chocolate is located which usually complement breakfast. I would next focus on
the Cereal Aisle I would first discover how the cereal was arranged. At this location
the cereal was arranged according to brands. One section of the aisle was dedicated to

The History of the Bra Essay
For the last 4,505 years, women have tried to enhance their figures by squeezing
themselves into restricting, and uncomfortable garments. Waists have been reduced
and bust lines have been increased, decreased, flattened, lifted or spread out,
depending on what was fashionable at the time. The modern brassiereand its
predecessors have not only been known for their functionality, but have also been
linked with statements of fashion and politics.
The concept of covering or restraining the breasts dates back to 2500 BC when
Minoan women from the island of Crete wore garments which lifted the bare breasts
out of their clothing. This eventually evolved into a binding that was worn by Greek
women while they exercised. However, such garments ... Show more content on

She used two silk handkerchiefs and a pink ribbon to create a light weight and soft
garment which separated the breasts naturally. The undergarment complimented the
fashions of the time, and orders for her design poured in from friends and family.
However, Jacobs found that running a business was not enjoyable so she sold her
patent to the Warner Brothers Corset Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut for
$1,500.00. (Over the next 30 years, Warner made more than $15,000,000.00 off of
Jacobs s patent.)
As the 1900 s progressed, women were presented with new inventions which
slowly took the place of traditional corsets. With the start of World War I, women
began to enter the work force and many of these women worked as laborers in
factories, making daily corset wear a problem. In 1917 the U.S. War Industries board
even requested that women stop buying corsets to reduce consumption of metal.
Some sources say that up to 28,000 tons of metal was conserved through this effort.
As the 1920 s rolled around, popular dress changed and the boyish figure trend
began to emerge in women s fashions. The style downplayed a woman s natural
curves as large breasts were considered a detriment to social standings. Well
endowed women tried breast binding, and from this the bandeaux bra was created.
The bandeaux bra was
How Do Recent Legislative Developments Affect The
British...
When critically analysing how recent legislative developments have affected the
British Constitution, there are many different aspects to take into consideration. We
need to consider the nature of the British Constitution, which has been widely
accepted as uncodified, being found in Acts of Parliament, Court Judgements and
Conventions. Whilst there is no written document forming the Constitution, there are
understood to be governing principles. These include the need for the separation of
powers and Parliamentary sovereignty. Three primary legislative developments
affecting these principles are: The separation of powers within the United Kingdom,
the Legislature, the Judiciary and the Executive, have been made much clearer over
the years,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main issue that should first be outlined is that it can be argued that the Human
Rights Act causes an imbalance. The Act favours the judiciary over both the
executive and the legislature as it gives the judiciary the power to impose their
authority over the other two. Section 3 of the Act gives the judiciary the power to
read and give effect to primary and secondary legislation in a way which will be most
compatible with the Convention Rights. This puts the judiciary in a sufficiently
decent position when interpreting legislation passed by the executive and the
legislature due to the Act allowing them to declare incompatibility with the European
Convention on Human Rights and therefore negating the provision in question. The
case of R v A demonstrates the challenges that other legislation has faced due to the
ability for the judiciary to declare incompatibility. This was due to section 41 of the
Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 restricting the admissibility at trial of
evidence relating to the sexual behaviour of those who made allegations of rape. The
aim of Parliament was clearly to prevent making the victim uncomfortable by being
asked questions of sexual history which could impact willingness to report crime and
the prospects of a successful prosecution. However the judiciary position was that

My Thematic Unit Resource Project
My thematic unit resource project focuses on concept exploration of water. It is
something that is found all around us, has cold and warm properties, is odorless
and tasteless (Davis, G. A., Keller, J. D. 2009) and most importantly, it is
something that children find interesting and are curious about. And the three most
basic forms of water that we are all aware of are solid, liquid and gas. Each form
can be broken down into many other types of water found in nature. Ice is a solid
type of water, while water we drink is a liquid and vapor is a gas. Science concepts
that are used during a water unit includes the study of physics (flow and motion),
chemistry (solutions, cohesion), biology (plant and animal life) and mathematics...

My students will learn about how we use water, why water is important, absorption,
dissolving and float and sink in density. The second week in my water unit has a
theme of the water cycle. Each day, the students learn about the different stages in
the water cycle. For the preschool students, the water cycle is simplified into four
stages, precipitation, condensation, collection and evaporation. In the third week, I
decided to expand on the study of different bodies of water. The collection activity
used in week two, where my students learned the basics about rivers, lakes and
oceans, is used to learn about the biology of animal life. Students first learn about
puddles and then expand their exploration into larger bodies of water. My fourth and
last week of the month has a mini theme about weather. To make things exciting I
focused on storms and then ended the week learning about rainbows.
In math, the standards that are addressed are measurement, numbers and counting,
sorting and compare and contrast. In measurement, the students take part in an
activity where they measure water and compare and contrast the difference in the
amount of water used for each action. In numbers and counting, the students learn to
count apples on trees, raindrops and snowflakes. One activity has students counting
the number of coins used to make water overflow in a cup, and further explore
volume in mathematics. For science, the standards addressed are using senses to
Julie Otsuka s When The Emperor Was Divine
Julie Otsuka s debut novel When the Emperor Was Divine addresses the nature of
human obedience within our society, as well as the compliant attitude of people
during times of adversity. The characters in the novel, rather than protest the
injustices shown towards Japanese Americans, let themselves be perceived as
enemy aliens . They acted submissively and obeyed the government s orders without
question. Even the woman who did not always follow the rules, followed the rules.
(9) This character had not always done as she was told, yet this time accepted the
situation, packing up the family belongings to leave her home. She wanted, just like
the majority of the Japanese Americans at that time, to show her support to America
because she knew that her and her family s future depended on her response to Pearl

were suddenly being portrayed as Unknowable. Inscrutable. (49) However, despite
the racism that they had to go through, they still didn t complain. Submissiveness
was a part of their nature, which is portrayed in various symbols throughout the

A Visit From The Goon Squad Analysis
Every work of literature requires a theme for it to be worth reading. Jennifer Egan
s A Visit from the Goon Squad mainly presents the theme of ruin and redemption
throughout the novel. This theme is present alongside with other minor themes
like the shift of American culture, and how the characters self centered ways are
crush by time. All of the major characters will find themselves at some sort of low
point in their lives throughout the novel. Jocelyn becomes addicted to drugs and
spends a great amount of her adult life going in and out of rehab; Benny will lose
his record label contract and will be seen as a failure by most of those still in the
industry; and Sasha will show falling into ruin due to her stealing addiction, self
isolation from family, and lack of self love. The idea of ruin and redemption is also
present alongside the characters setting. Theses characters live in a post 9/11 New
York City, where the towers are destroyed, the streets and rivers are polluted, and
surveillance is amplified, making New York City reflect this theme in a mournful
way. The same for the story Goodbye, My Love , Ted goes to Italy, and notes the
ways Naples is degrading. Theses images of ruin, that the characters are
consciousness of, are a representation of ruin in their own lives. Despite the self
destruction that each character faces throughout the novel, a counterbalance for the
self destruction is created when a sense of redemption is introduced. Two of the
stories main
Metaphors In Animal Farm
In the month of April it always rains cats and dogs. April does not really have cats
and dogs falling from the sky in the same manner as rain but this phrase is still used.
That is because it is a metaphor. A metaphor is a word or phrase given to an object
or action that means something other than what is being said. In the example given it
is comparing rainin the month of April to the size of cats and dogs which means the
rain drops are bigger than normal. This metaphor is a much smaller one when
compared to the metaphor that is George Orwells Animal Farm.

Residential Schools Case Study
Residential Schools: A Case of Aggressive Assimilation
In the 19th Century, the Canadian government believed that it was responsible for the
care and education of aboriginal children. The Residential School system was
developed to ensure the assimilation of every indigenous child in Canada. These
schools were terribly unsafe for children and exhibited horrible living conditions
including abuse, malnutrition and isolation. Conditions in residential schools
continue to negatively impact communities generations later, contributing to
violence, alcoholism and surprising statistics seen from aboriginal communities. The
policy behind the Canadian Residential Schools highlights the injustice done to
indigenous people resulting in long term impacts on the community to this day.
Residential schools were schools sponsored by the government established to
assimilate aboriginal children into European culture. For which they developed a
policy called aggressive assimilation to be taught. It believed that their best chance for
success was to learn English and adopt Christianity and Canadian customs. The
government believed that children were easier to mold and manipulate than adults
therefore took the children away from their families and homes.
Theoretically, they would pass their assumed way of life on to their children, and
aboriginal traditions would diminish over the next few generations. Canadian law
forced Aboriginal parents under threat of prosecution to send their children to

Distortions of the Daniel Boone Legend and Their Impact...
Distortions of the Daniel Boone Legend and Their Impact
[1] The silent film, With Daniel Boone Thru the Wilderness, was produced in 1926: a
time of prosperity, an era without the skepticism of the modern American mind.
People were not yet questioning the stories and histories they had been taught as
children. The entertaining story told in this Robert North Bradbury film is loosely
based on the life of an American hero. However, the presence of several insidiously
inaccurate historical representations demonstrates how an entertaining film might not
be as innocent as it initially seems. This film fails to question certain key issues
concerning the Daniel Boone legend. In fact, it does quite the opposite. The creators

What is going on here?
[3] Perhaps the answer lies within a series of other, more precise questions. Who
was the real Daniel Boone? Why was this person chosen over other similar
frontiersmen by early hagiographers to be the next American hero? Who distorted
the story of Boone s life and why? What societal factors went into the making of the
Boone legend? Why was this legend still immensely popular in the 20th century?
How did With Daniel Boone Thru the Wilderness represent, or misrepresent, the story
of Daniel Boone, and why is that important? What does all of this mean to Americans
today as this nation continues to redefine itself in the early years of the new
millennium?
[4] That is a lot to consider, but with good cause. Only by asking the tough
questions and demanding accountability can a nation hope to correct its past
wrongs, learn from its mistakes, and prevent similar injustices from occurring again.
This process must begin by taking a new, more responsible look at history. Only
when the facts are gathered from every possible perspective can one begin to truly
comprehend history and its importance. What, then, are the facts behind the Daniel
Boone legend? (To learn more about Daniel Boone s life, click here to visit the

[5] Boone was indeed an early American frontiersman and explorer. During Boone s

Compare The Arguments Against Autonomous Weapons
In order to understand autonomous weapons, one must understand the basis of
artificial intelligence (A.I.). At their very core, A.I.s are algorithms (a step by step
procedure based off of mathematical data) that can handle tasks which human
intelligence requires. This means they are able to do reasoning tasks like problem
solving, prediction, diagnosis, and so forth. On the contrary, the A.I.s portrayed in
films and fantasy novels often involves machines that demonstrate human level
intelligence. To put this into perspective, there is a scenario where an A.I. is
assigned to drive a car from point A to point B with a separate car accident between
the points. A realistic A.I. would still try to drive the car from point A to point B
because its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stuart Russell, the director of the Center for Intelligent Systems at the University
of California, Berkeley, raises two points to consider as support to banning
autonomous weapons: developing A.I. weapons better than human soldiers and
the availability of A.I. weapons (Russell, 2015). To put differently, human soldiers
can decide whether or not to shoot someone like a civilian in an extreme
environment. An A.I. weapon would only act within its algorithm. So unless the
algorithm accounts for every possible scenario, it will produce unfavorable results.
However, a game theoretical formulation by G. Arslan and J.S. Shamma
invalidates this. Russell stated an A.I. is restricted by its algorithm, so it cannot
like a human in complex scenarios. But here, it s possible for the A.I. to make
much more complex decisions with negotiation mechanisms. An example of this
is a young boy, strapped with a bomb, walking towards a squad of soldiers. The
soldiers are preoccupied with other things, so they did not notice the boy. The
autonomous turret, near the soldiers, recognizes the explosives and prepares to
shoot the hostile. The turret s A.I. is only able to distinguish the difference
between lethal and nonlethal targets. However, if a drone with an A.I. built to
identify age was there, it can prompt a more favorable scenario. It can stop the
turret s A.I. from killing the boy and proceed to two different courses of action.
The turret s A.I. can shoot the boy in a nonlethal spot to neutralize him or alert the
soldiers of an incoming child. From there, the soldiers can either talk some reason
to the kid or disable him. Referencing back to Arkin s point, this is considered the
optimal level of human control. The A.I.s makes it easier to accomplish certain goals
but the hard decisions are left for humans to make. Also, this allows for more human
control in a sense since there are more algorithms
The Reoccurring Blues Music And The Blindness Of The
Book...
The reoccurring blues music plays a significant role in the blindness of the book.
In the song Nobody Knows the Trouble I ve Seen by Louis Armstrong, Louis sings
Sometimes I m up, sometimes I m down, ohh, yes Lord Sometimes I m almost to
the ground, oh yes, Lord Nobody knows the trouble I ve seen . The narrator claims
Perhaps I like Louis Armstrong because he s made poetry out of being invisible
(Ellison, 10). This statement by the narrator is ironic because the narrator is
literally being told that society is blinded to the problems African Americans are

Introduction
This assignment utilizes one of the file sets in the FAA database, Aircraft Series, to
demonstrate a proposed process for quality data preparation (Federal Aviation
Administration Data Downloads, n.d.). This documentation includes a process
overview, a description of the data files, two attempts at cleaning the data, and
validation and standardization of the resulting content. A short discussion of data
integrity, data validation, data governance, and documentation follows including
recommendations to overcome the challenges encountered.
Process Overview
Per the advice of Robin Hunt s video tutorial, the exercise began with a notional
workflow diagram (2015). After two attempts, the succeeding process consolidated
into a series of four phases, each described in the following sections. The complete
diagram appears below. Figure 1. Assignment Workflow Diagram Select Data
The FAA database provided the sourcedata. The data cleaning process required
downloading two text formatted files in the subject area of Accident/Incident data:
the source data file and a document describing the layout of the source data file. The
website download process appeared similar to the figure below:
Figure 2. FAA Data Download Web Page
On first inspection, the downloaded source data file appeared to only contain text
characters similar to as shown below. Figure 3. Aircraft Series Source Data File
The data contained 4959 rows (as measured by Notepad ++) and
The Arrival Of Home Video
The arrival of home video however had an opposite impact. And it was just a
beginning of the whole technological revolution that will completely turn people s
film watching habits upside down. Film viewing was taken into the comfort of the
home space with the arrival of television. However the capabilities that home video,
followed by DVD s, Blu rays, Netflix and all the other VOD services, were a true
breakthrough for the filmbuffs. This change on one hand inaugurated a completely
new stage of cinema s relocation to multiple other platforms, on the other ripped off
the cult, quasi religious facet of cinema going and spectatorship. In 1996 a New York
Times published an article by Susan Sonntag The Decay of Cinema , in which she
announced the end of cinephilia. She wrote:
The conditions of paying attention in a domestic space are radically disrespectful of
film. (...)
To be kidnapped, you have to be in a movie theater, seated in the dark among
anonymous strangers.
What Sonntag here sentimentally mentions was a unique cinema experience, seeing a
picture on a wide screen, coexisting in the particular time and space with other
spectators. Being among strangers, nevertheless was a very communal experience
and discussions after the screenings in cine clubs were a norm. The way we access
and view films has changed dramatically. First of all film has moved out of its
canonical location, spread to new environments cable tv, mobile devices, digital and
online world. Cinema s
Deforestation And Its Effects On The Environment
To start off, thirty percent of the world s land are forests. (Anonymous, para. 1).
However, the number of forests are dwindling down due to the deforestation that
happens every year. Deforestation is the act or result of cutting down or burning
all the trees in an area (Anonymous). Unfortunately, this damages the land.
Deforestation has many factors of what causes the loss of trees. There are
agriculture farmers that cut down trees to have more acres to grow more plants or
to have more livestock. The trees are used for paper products. The trees are usually
chopped down to make room for more homes since the urban living is increasing.
Sometimes deforestation is an accident. A wildfire can happen by people or the
forest is too dry. Trees are not able to grow because of an erosion. Deforestation has
many effects towards the environment. Seventy percent of Earth s land animals and
plants live in forests (Anonymous, para. 6). Since species live in the forest, they
would lose their homes which leads to millions of species of not having a place to
live. The species can die out or become instinct. This messes up the life cycle for the
forest because there can be more animals that harms the forest like gnawing on trees
which can be harmful. Not only does it affect the species habitat, it can affect the
climate. If the trees are chopped down, the sun blares down on the other plants which
can dry the plants since the soil will lose its natural moisture. Since the plants are
Unix Security Essay
An Overview of UNIX Security
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the security of UNIX. Considerations shall
be given regarding generalized security aspects of a typical UNIX system. The
ultimate scope of the following presentation shall remain within the boundaries of a
few of the more critical UNIX security aspects. Of particular note will be discussion
regarding standard user access, root access, file system security, and internet access
precautions. This will not focus on specific measures used to implement security, but
rather will investigate both pros and cons typical of a UNIX installation. Finally, a
brief description of UNIX security versus other operating systems will be noted.
Since no two UNIX based operating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of the utmost security concern is the protection of the root account. The root
account allows a user absolute control of the system, including the ability to alter
practically every aspect of the systems, from individual files to installed programs.
Indeed, an entry in Wikipedia.com notes, that a UNIX administrator should be
much like Clark Kent, only using the root account, or becoming Superman, when
absolutely necessary, lest the security of the account be compromised (2006).
Ultimately, this implementation represents a near surefire way to protect the
system against many internal and external threats. By ensuring regularly
scheduled root account password changes and ensuring the passwords are strong,
the cons noted previously should be relatively easy to avoid. File system security
is also very important regardless of the UNIX implementation. UNIX files system
security generally allows access permissions to be granted to various defined users
and groups. UNIX also contains an access right flag know as the sticky bit . The
sticky bit can be used to allow users and groups write access to certain directories
within the system. Similarly, the sticky bit can be used by a user to disallow other
users with access to the same directory to alter the contents of the file. The file can
only be altered by the file owner, the directory owner, and the root account
(linuxdevcenter.com, 2006). This particular element allows for a great deal of control
Water In Ancient Egyptian Civilization
Ruth Demese Ancient Egypt is often revered as one of the most influential empires
in the world. Ancient Egyptian civilization is one of the longest running societies in
recorded history, and counterintuitively, this society came to fruition in one of the
largest arid desert areas in the world (Kemp 2006: 8). . The initial success of a
society is often determined by the resources made available to them, such as food and
water, which emphasizes the importance for the NileRiver, which ran through one of
the driest desert regions. In fact, this climate is so inhospitable that it would have
likely been impossible if not for the Nile River. Due to the vitality of the water on
Egyptian civilization throughout time, climate, hydrological flux, and... Show more

The River Nile carries water from Lake Victoria, the largest lake in the world, 3,000
miles downstream to the Mediterranean Sea (Kemp 2002: 8 12). Records suggest
that there had a long term decline in rainfall in Egypt beginning from the
Predynastic to Old Kingdom time, which is reflected in the types of plants and
animals that were recorded during the period (Stanley et al. 2003: 396 398). Lakes
and other water sources in Egypt also exhibited this drying trend. Therefore, The
Nile River allowed a source of water despite the lack of rainfall in the area, and the
land adjacent to the river was fertile as the river provided natural irrigation. Annual
flooding likely sufficient to support the population of Predynastic Egypt without
artificial irrigation. The Nile allowed for agriculture to thrive and facilitated the

Similarities Between Udolpho And Frankenstein
Fear is in the core of every person. It is the defense mechanism that keeps us from
danger. It is an unpleasant emotion internally warning us that someone or something
is dangerous, likely to cause us pain. In gothic literature fear is a topic that the genre
is soaked in. It is one of the main elements. Authors use literary devices to make a
reader feel, think, and react in a certain way. Mary Shelley and Ann Radcliffe are both
prominent gothic writers, with the works Frankensteinand The Mysteries of Udolpho
respectively. They are both works that are thought of as key reads in the genre and
both have a pervasive theme of fearthroughout. The two women portray these very
well using literary devices. Both authors explore fear as a theme. Mary Shelley s

For example, the monster in Frankenstein is described as a creature who formed a
more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as
the dun white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight
black lips. The words in the quote horrid and shrivelled complexion depict a
frightening view of him. Emily, on the other hand, in Udolpho, becomes a timid and
frightened character when listening to the terrors in the castle: Hush! said Emily,
trembling. They listened, and, continuing to sit quite still, Emily heard a low
knocking against the wall. It came repeatedly. Certainly the characters in both stories
are different, as shown in these descriptions, but are they really? The monster might
be as timid as Emily but he was a more powerful character physically. Emily did not
possess quite the same personality. She becomes extremely cautious and is trembling
upon hearing an unknown sound. The monster, by comparison, shows a more
awesome disposition in character and appearance through a horrid contrast with his
watery eyes as he sees each situation in the
ISIS Attack In The United States
The Islamic State of Iraq and al Sham, commonly known as ISIS, has frightened
the whole world by committing attacks in the Middle East, Paris, and San
Bernardino, California. ISIS claims to be the legitimate ruler of all Muslims and it
operates the Muslim world. ISIS was able to expand as the result of local groups
conflicts with Western interests. Daniel Byman declares that local groups are
attracted to ISIS for genuine conviction. Particularly, young men believe that ISIS is
the defender and avenger of Sunnis worldwide. On the other hand, some groups join
ISIS for accessibility to financial and technical aid. While , ISIS grows beyond Iraq
and Syria, religious intolerance is created. The group delivers its religious beliefs by
barbarian acts, such as beheading and rape to intimidate their enemies and obtain
supporters.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Byman stated that the United States and its allies should target
provincial command and control centers and locals who have personal
relationships with top ISIS leaders in Iraq and Syria to weak the terrorist group. As
ISIS spreads in the Middle East can be more difficult to fight, but with use of strong
war tactics, the United States and its allies can seek victory. The United States can
use effective strategies , such as targeting ISIS affiliates provinces and local
grievances in the news and on social media. Eventually, the integration of ISIS s
provinces in the Unites States strategies against it will cause serious
How Language Is Important For Communicating One s...
Language is thought to be essential in communicating one s thoughts, beliefs, and
ideas. From the moment we begin to form a conscious thought, we are educated and
conditioned to learn how to speak, to form words, and to understand what exactly
the words mean. We learn proper grammar, and are criticized for the use of so called
improper use of language. It is almost impossible for us to imagine a life without
words, as we have come to think with words and to communicate amongst one other
through the use of words. This led me to a series of questions: To what extent do we
rely on words for communicating with one another? Can thoughtexist without
language? Speech and writing have become essential in our lives today, but the

When China s Space Station Will Crash Summary
I read Why it s Hard to Know Where or When China s Space Station Will Crash
from Newsy published by Evan Thomas. The article describes a Chinese space
station(Tiangong 1) that is falling out of orbit. China lost contact with the satellite
approximately the size of a school bus in 2016 and they have not been able to get
the engines started. The satellite is expected to re enter the earth s atmosphere on
or around April 1, 2018. Scientists are unable to predict where exactly it will land
on earth, however they don t expect it to be a danger to anyone because most of the
space station will burn before any debris reach the ground and it is smaller than
most space stations. If it does make contact with earth however, the debris band
could be over 2000 Km long because the satellite breaks up into many different
pieces as it falls down to earth.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, although this one does not pose a significant threat, in the future other
satellites or asteroids could be a potential danger. In the future, if a larger object
entered earth s atmosphere and it did not burn before reaching the ground. people
s lives could be at risk. Reading this article I was also surprised there are not more
measures in place to prevent these things from happening. Obviously this satellite
costs millions of dollars to build and put in space so I assumed there would be
safety measures preventing people from losing contact with it. Also, the article does
not mention any blame the Chinese faced and this surprised me because if lives
were lost or damage was done from this satellite coming back down to earth someone

Another name for her was Saint Aimee. The very first church was founded in
October of 1923 located in Angelus Temple in Long Beach, California. They also
popped up in Pasadena, Santa Ana, and Santa Monica. Today, almost all fifty states
have Foursquare churches (Our Story). Most denominations are created because of a
disagreement in a previous denomination but the Foursquare church was created
differently. According to a document found on the Foursquare website called, The

trying to evangelize to anyone who would listen. She started off as a traveling

Jean Renoir Rules Of The Game Film Techniques
Film has often been an accurate representation of a time period s culture. Rules of the
Game is no exception with its portrayal of women and their relationships with each
other and with men. Jean Renoir uses Rules of the Game to make statements on the
expectations and perceptions of women by techniques of cinematography. Although
often not a favorable representation, Renoir portrays women differently than society
would have expected. Through camerafocus, angles, and distance, Jean Renoir
demonstrates the contradictions between the expectations of women and the reality
of their behavior, but with negative undertones. Renoir uses mirrors and camera
angles to represent Christine and Lisette s flaws of character and the deception in their
Game Theory as it Relates to Abortion in Canada
Flanagan s Status Quo
In 1988 abortion legislation was abolished by the supreme court of Canada
(Flanagan 120). Current law was deemed to violate a women s security of person
under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Wikipedia). Drafting and
passing abortion legislation became the responsibility of the current Prime Minister
and the House of Commons (Flanagan 121). Attempts by Brian Mulroney to
introduce abortion legislation into the House of Commons and senate failed
repeatedly (Flanagan 121). ) Despite public opinion favoring moderate legislation,
abortion in Canada remains unlegislated (Flanagan 121).Under the circumstances

A uni dimensional conflict is a dispute involving a single issue, such as abortion, with
gradated strengths of opinion (Brams 28). It can be represented graphically with

The Baby Boomers rarely complain about their work load or other members of staff.
Baby boomers tend to be more diligent on the job and prefer a more stable working
environment (Loomis, 2000). The Baby boomers tend to work hard and are
generally loyal to their employer. Baby boomers are willing and expecting to work
with others. In term of leadership style, Baby boomers accept the chain of
command. In addition, they expect their managers to give direction and to lead them
towards organizational goals. They prefer teamwork directed by leaders in positional
authority, and a task oriented leadership style. Baby boomers are however, not highly
technologically savvy, nor do they generally like change ( Raths, 1999).
1.2 Generation X
Born between 1965 and 1980, Generation X has strong ties to the Baby Boomers,
but grew up in more prosperous times. As children, this generation was busy
playing outside with their friends home was a place for dinner and sleep. They
share a sense of respect and duty similar to their older counterparts, and also prefer
to keep home and work separate. However, they are more comfortable using
technology even though their lack of formative education in IT means that most are
self taught or have developed their skills in the workplace. They had a colour TV at
home, and probably more than one. They can be known as, techno immigrants‟.

the total work of art with an intention to generate civil unity through erections of
interactive, multi functional structures (also, the Alpine architecture). For the
Chinese Communist leaders and the population, the Great Hall symbolizes the

Research Paper On Pony
Looking for the perfect pony? Who isn t? Good ponies those who can teach kids the
ropes when it comes to horsemanship are said to be worth their weight in gold.
What exactly is a pony, by definition? How does it differ from what we call a horse?
Well, a pony is, in fact, a horse. Ponies are a sub classification of light horses, which
are those used for riding. The main difference between a pony and a horse is that a
pony is under 14.2 hands. To this end, just about any horse who meets the height
requirement can be shown in pony classes. However, there are certain breeds where
all the individuals registered must meet pony requirements. These are called pony
breeds.
Like other horse breeds, pony breeds vary in size, color, and gait.

This breed was founded in the United States in 1956. Original POAs were
developed by cross breeding Shetland Ponies with Appaloosa horses, as well as
Quarter Horses and Arabians. POAs share the breed characteristics of their founding
stock, and range in height from 11.2 hands to 13.2 hands. Because of their
Appaloosa heritage, they come in a wide variety of coat patterns. POAs work well for
both riding and driving.
Connemara
The Connemara is an Irish pony that has Arabian horses in its ancestry.
Connemaras are known for being one of the taller pony breeds, as many of them
stand in the 14.2 hand range. Connemaras are often gray or black, although registry
rules also allow them to be brown, bay, or dun. Connemaras have very smooth gaits,
are willing learners, and are often very athletic. They excel in a wide variety of
disciplines, from riding to driving, and are well suited to both children and driving
adults.
When looking at ponies, there are several breeds from which to choose. Knowing
certain breed characteristics will help you determine if the pony you are looking at
is a good representative of his breed. Good luck finding the perfect pony!

The Warden Reflection
The Warden
She s mean, she s scary, she makes you dig holes Yes, you ve got it, it s the
dreadful, direful, fearsome...Warden. Based on what I have read so far, I believe
the Warden is a selfish, scary, and rude person. In addition to that, she is definitely
impatient, strict and bossy. Firstly, I believe the Warden is a selfish person,
because on page 3 of chapter 1, the author states that, The campers are forbidden to
lie in the hammock. It belongs to the Warden. The Warden owns the shade. The
Warden won t share the hammock to any of the campers, even if they are
dehydrated or near death. Isn t that just egoistical? Besides, in chapter 20, page 89,
the Warden s cabin is described as a very sybaritic place. It has air conditioner, a
television, and plenty of furniture that probably costs a lot. But then at Group D, all
they have is a wreck room, and it is trash (And a wreck, literally.)compared to the
Warden s cabin. Besides, the boys are working for the Warden, finding something for
the Warden, getting up everyday at the crack of dawn to dig holes. I don t think that s
a dream come true for them. And what does the Warden do? She sits in her fancy
cabin, sipping sodas and watching television, not giving any thanks to the boys.
The Warden is also quite the scary person. It is told that the Warden uses snake
venom as nail polish. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

then the Warden snarls, And the next time I tell you to do something, I expect you

they can t find anything, she orders them to dig faster and faster, though not finding

The Use of Symbols in John Steinbeck s The
Chrysanthemums
In John Steinbeck s short story, The Chrysanthemums, he uses the flower to
symbolize his main character s thoughts and ideas. There are many examples of such
symbolism in this work.
Elisa Allen is a lonely woman who enjoys growing and nourishing her
chrysanthemums. Since her husband is always working the cattle in their farm,
she never has enough attention or any kind of affection. The result of this
dispassionate marriage leads Steinbeck to describe his main character as follows,
Her face lean and strongВ…Her figure looked blocked and heavy in her gardening
costume, a man s black hat pulled lowВ…clod hopper shoesВ…completely covered
by a big corduroy apronВ… (Page 206 207) This neglect from her busband causes her

her prettiness. (Page 212) In this scene in which she transforms from gardener to a
model, she goes through a revelation of thoughts. Her excitement from the stranger s
interest in her chrysanthemums, gives her the confidence to
Stream of Consciousness Novel
The Development of the Stream of Consciousness Technique in Modernist English
Fiction (with Special Reference to the Contributions of James Joyce and Virginia
Woolf)
Arpan Adhikary
The term stream of consciousness as applied in literary criticism to designate a
particular mode of prose narrative was first coined by philosopher William James in
his book Principles of Psychology (1890) to describe the uninterrupted flow of
perceptions, memories and thoughts in active human psyche. As a literary term,
however, it denotes a certain narrative technique used in novels in which the narrator
records in minute but somewhat abstract way whatever passes through his or her
conscious mind. The socalled stream of consciousness in a work of ... Show more

The style is highly allusive and Joyce deliberately confuses the narrative by making
a pastiche of the styles of several genres together while presenting the flows of the
continuous thoughts of the principal characters. Here for the first time Joyce also
employed the interior monologue which is deemed to be the purest form of the
stream of consciousness mode. In Joyce s third and last novel Finnegans Wake (1939)
the complexity of the stream of consciousness technique reaches its heights
necessitating the text s being one of the least read ones in any language. In this novel
Joyce used around forty languages other than English and presented an awkwardly
extensive range of literary, mythical, political and historical allusions while narrating
the one night dream sequence of the protagonist, a Dublin tavern keeper named
Humphrey Chimpden Earwicker. Apart from Joyce, Virginia Woolf also made
remarkable contribution to the development of the stream of consciousness mode in
the modernist English fiction. In Mrs. Dalloway (1925) Woolf presents the diverse
mental recourses of Clarissa Dalloway within the span of one single day, and in the
interior monologue of Mrs. Dalloway the narrative breaks with the realistic mode in
order to suit the inner reality of the narrator s psyche which is different from the
external reality by which she is surrounded. Similar intellectual cogency and finer

Female Role Models In Esperanza s Life On Mango Street
And the thought of the mayor coming to Mango Street makes me laugh out loud.
Who s going to do it? Not the mayor, (Cisneros 107). Esperanza has a variety of
different female role models. All of her role models contribute to their life on
Mango Street in a variety of ways. Some are stuck in life, but have good memories
for Esperanza to look up to. Others are rough around the edges but Esperanza s
interest in rebels makes them her role models. Many of these womenare highly
motivated to do what they want in life; this exists as the main reason for Esperanza
looking up to these rather odd women. Esperanza has many femalerole models, many
are trapped in abusive relationships, some are trying to change things by themselves,
and Cisneros explores their power within. Many of Esperanza s womanrole models

thus they have to change things on their own. Alicia s feeling are felt by readers
through passages, Alicia, whose mama died, is sorry there is no one older to rise
and make lunchbox tortillas, (Cisneros 31). This narration truly expresses Alicia s
struggles and the amount of support behind her. Sally is another role model
Esperanza has. Sally does not have much support either, Sally do you sometimes
wish that you didn t have to go home? Do you wish your feet would keep walking
and take you far away from Mango Street? (Cisneros 82). Sally s lack of support
from those who love her causes her to be motivated to leave Mango Street as soon
as possible. Esperanza looks up to these ladies for a large amount of reasons.
Esperanza wants to be successful in life, so talking to these women about their
dreams causes Esperanza to think highly of them. Esperanza has shown through all
her vignettes that she is a highly determined person. Esperanza s role models come in

Notes On The Global Financial Crisis Essay
Abstract
The recent turmoil in the global financial market has given rise to an argument on
what policy measure or controls should be imposed to curb excess stock price
volatility. One such restrictions were placed on short selling to reduce speculative
trading. The aim of the present paper is to consider the impact of the measures placed
on short selling following the 2008 global financial crisis. This report assesses the
success of the interim measures in achieving these objectives, and also considers the
impact the interim measures had on the market, participants in the market and other
stakeholders
What is short selling?
The short sale of a security that is not owned by the seller of the stock, or the seller
has borrowed. Short selling is the belief that the price of a security will decline, at a
lower price to make a profit, you can buy it back at a reduced cost in future.
There are two general types of short sale transactions:
(A) short sales covered: a person sells a financial product they can trust agreement
existing loan to have a right exercisable and unconditional to confer the product the
buyer at the time of sale; and
(B) short sales Uncovered: the seller has no arrangement in place to borrow the
financial product at the time of sale and therefore does not have a right exercisable
and unconditional to confer the product.

HSBC has launched a new worldwide advertising campaign designed to define the
distinct personality of the Group s brand and introduce HSBC as the world s local
bank .
The campaign will run on TV, in print and online, and over the course of the year it
will appear across the 81 countries and territories HSBC serves worldwide.
The concept was developed following worldwide consumer research which found
that, while people appreciate the value of international organizations and services,
they question the prevailing one size fits all global model. Consumers want to be
treated as individuals, and to feel that companies care about them, recognize their
needs and understand what makes their community unique.
Underpinning the advertising is HSBC s philosophy that the world is a rich and
diverse place in which cultures and people should be treated with respect. Around
the world, the Group has built its businesses locally, and HSBC s 31 million
customers can be confident that the service they receive has a world of experience
behind it.

Why I Want To Doodle
Most people like to doodle or draw but most don t plan on making a business out of
it. I particularly draw zentangles which is the creation of images through repetitive
patterns. I learned about the art of zentangles when I was in eighth grade through my
art teacher. Since then I have been hooked on drawingzentangles in any spare time
that I have. For me it is all about seeing different items or images and turning it into
something new and creative. It usually takes me a couple of hours to complete one
zentangle due to all the detail I enjoy adding in.
My freshman year of high school I continued to draw and improve on my zentagles.
Due to the fact that I enjoyed drawing them so much I decided I would make a career
out of it. I have always
The Effectiveness Of Nazi Propaganda
Maryann Ritter Dr. Megan Sethi HIS 241: World War Two 28 June 2015 The
effectiveness of Nazi Propaganda There have been many varied opinions on the
effectiveness of the Nazi propaganda used by Hitler and his teams of propaganda
writers throughout World War II. His popularity was astounding with the German
masses and grew into a frenzied state quickly. Hitler s rise of his image was built
on a fairly new manner of technology allowing more exposure to the people. This
paper will examine the exponents of this new image building phenomena and
prove its use built the man into a myth of sorts. The effectiveness of Nazi
propaganda was greater than anyone could have anticipated because Hitler s
regime constructed a language of the people using logical fallacies to win the
hearts and minds of the German populace. In Hitler s speeches he would state three
or four bullet points that the average citizen knew to be true, then couple those
bullet points with his own agenda. His lies, therefore, became truthful by
association. Introduction World War II was a most horrific loss of human life and
the technical advances since the first World War I seemed to push those numbers to
the limits. If we want to look at the causes of the Second World War, we must look
to the First World War and what were the remainders of limitations placed. Germany
s economy was drained following WWI, to recover it increased the social spending
and tried to create projects of transportation and
Mermaid Myths
The mystical maidens of the sea, better known as mermaids, have been featured in
everything from the folklore of the past to the fiction of the present, but what do we
really know about them? Legends of these half human, half fish creatures exist all
over the globe, and even if they are merely legend, they re a pretty fascinating
manifestation of what the human imagination can produce. Here are six things you
might not know about these mythical creatures.
Number One: The first mermaid was a goddess of fertility.
The original mermaid came out of ancient Assyria in 1000 B.C. According to
legend, Atargatis, or Derecto, as some scholars refer to her, was a goddess of
fertility who fell in love with a young shepherd. While some sources say the young
man impregnated her, others say she accidentally killed him. Maybe both happened,
but either way, she ended up throwing herself in a lake out of shame and
transformed into a human with a long fish tail as a result. She is also said to have
inspired the worshipping of Venus and Aphrodite, the Roman and Greek goddesses of
love, beauty, and fertility.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oannes, as referred to by the Greeks, was a respected figure in ancient Mesopotamia
with two heads one of a fish and one of a man, and both a tail and human legs.
Freaky, huh? In ancient Babylonian mythology, he was said to provide humans with
knowledge, religious counsel and the arts. Some ancient alien theorists believe he
might be historical evidence of an otherworldly presence on
Malignant Progression Of A Malignant Disease
Abstract The ability of cancerous cells to migrate from their primary site and invade a
secondary site is a hallmark of malignant progression. The invasive potential of a
tumor hinges on the rigidity of its epithelial microenvironment in vivo, or the
stiffness of the matrix on which the cells are grown in vitro. The serine/threonine
protein kinase CО± (PKCО±) promotes cell movement and contributes to tumor
invasion, partially due to its activity on two newly discovered substrates, CEP4 and
О±6 tubulin. We set out to characterize the role of these PKCО± substrates in the
invasive phenotype of an aggressive metastatic mammary carcinoma cell line LM2
4175. We hypothesized that phosphorylation resistant mutants of CEP4 and О±6
tubulin would decrease the invasive phenotype. To test this, we transiently transfected
LM2 4175 cells with either wild type or phosphorylation resistant CEP4 or О±6
tubulin and studied their migratory efficiency in transwells fitted with matrices of
differing stiffness. In parallel, cells were treated with a PKC activator. As predicted,
migration was potentiated by stiffer matrices under all conditions, with the exception
of cells transfected with phosphorylation resistant CEP4 and О±6 tubulin where the
invasion in the softer matrix was greater. Furthering our understanding of the
individual contributions of substrates of PKCО± holds clinical promise, as it will
permit the development of novel targeted therapeutics to curb cell migration and
metastasis.
Adoption Argumentative Essay
Previously, I thought that adoption was easy, but this course has taught me that it
is not as simple as it seems, and there are many different issues that need to be
considered. Adoption is an amazing gift to couples who are unable to have children.
There are many problems that couples face when they cannot conceive. It is heart
wrenching for couples who need to endure years of trying, years of hoping, only to
see their efforts failure or end in miscarriages. Thankfully, God has made it possible
for childless couples to become parents. Though you and I may take fertility for
granted, it is important that we stop and think about this for a moment. Adoptionhasn t
always been accessible or possible. Adoption agencies haven t always existed in
every region, just waiting for couples to knock on their door. For many centuries in
human history, couples had to come to terms with the fact that if they were unable
to conceive, they would have to live with the consequence, period. Many children
desperately needed to be adopted, and were stuck in oppressive situations. They
faced long, difficult, and even tragic lives. Many would bounce from home to home
in the foster system and many would stay in government care. As these families are
formed, not only is it important to learn new heritage, but also it is equally important
for adoptive children to be informed of their biological heritage as well. Adoptive
parents have an obligation to disclose all pertinent information to their adoptive
children, to include the identity of their birth parents.
Adoption also represents a kind of assistance provided to the biological parents of
a child. In some cases, adoption provides a number of benefits to the birth mother.
For example, if the birth mother of a child is a teenager who would otherwise
struggle hard to provide necessary conditions for her child while going to school
or working, adoption is the best way out of the situation. In some other cases,
parents may be physically or psychologically incapable of raising a child on their
own. When such parents are deprived of parental rights for the purpose of adoption,
they seek help required to provide good life conditions for their child. Adoptive
parents in this case would
Influenza Vaccine
Influenza is one of the major causes for illness around the globe and vaccination is
the best way for controlling it. The licensed inactivated influenza vaccine includes
antigenic components from the three influenza strains which are chosen annually to
match globally circulating strains of influenza viruses.
The aim under this objective was to evaluate the humoral immune response to
inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV) in adults who were administered seasonal IIV for
2012 2013. The study was able to identify significant differences in the antibody titers
as B cell responses between different groups after IIV immunization where one group
receives IIV and other was given no intervention.
The routine monitoring of the immune responses usually

According to the website CEEREAL of the European breakfast cereal Association, the first ever cereal was granola which was invented by James Caleb Jackson in 1863 who was the operator of the Jackson Sanitarian in the state of New York (Ceereal). Given this diverse clientele I concluded this store would be a good store to observe. When I enter the store the first thing I did was walk towards the cereal Aisle which is in the middle of the store. Once I was in the cereal aisle, I would notice that besides cereal the also contained other breakfast foods such as Pop Tarts, breakfast bars, and oatmeal. The aisle also contained products to make other breakfast food such as an egg poacher and a breakfast sandwich maker. Finally I would observe that the area also was where the Tea and hot chocolate is located which usually complement breakfast. I would next focus on the Cereal Aisle I would first discover how the cereal was arranged. At this location the cereal was arranged according to brands. One section of the aisle was dedicated to Kellogg products such as raisin brand

  • 5. The History of the Bra Essay For the last 4,505 years, women have tried to enhance their figures by squeezing themselves into restricting, and uncomfortable garments. Waists have been reduced and bust lines have been increased, decreased, flattened, lifted or spread out, depending on what was fashionable at the time. The modern brassiereand its predecessors have not only been known for their functionality, but have also been linked with statements of fashion and politics. The concept of covering or restraining the breasts dates back to 2500 BC when Minoan women from the island of Crete wore garments which lifted the bare breasts out of their clothing. This eventually evolved into a binding that was worn by Greek women while they exercised. However, such garments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She used two silk handkerchiefs and a pink ribbon to create a light weight and soft garment which separated the breasts naturally. The undergarment complimented the fashions of the time, and orders for her design poured in from friends and family. However, Jacobs found that running a business was not enjoyable so she sold her patent to the Warner Brothers Corset Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut for $1,500.00. (Over the next 30 years, Warner made more than $15,000,000.00 off of Jacobs s patent.) As the 1900 s progressed, women were presented with new inventions which slowly took the place of traditional corsets. With the start of World War I, women began to enter the work force and many of these women worked as laborers in factories, making daily corset wear a problem. In 1917 the U.S. War Industries board even requested that women stop buying corsets to reduce consumption of metal. Some sources say that up to 28,000 tons of metal was conserved through this effort. As the 1920 s rolled around, popular dress changed and the boyish figure trend began to emerge in women s fashions. The style downplayed a woman s natural curves as large breasts were considered a detriment to social standings. Well endowed women tried breast binding, and from this the bandeaux bra was created. The bandeaux bra was
  • 6. How Do Recent Legislative Developments Affect The British... When critically analysing how recent legislative developments have affected the British Constitution, there are many different aspects to take into consideration. We need to consider the nature of the British Constitution, which has been widely accepted as uncodified, being found in Acts of Parliament, Court Judgements and Conventions. Whilst there is no written document forming the Constitution, there are understood to be governing principles. These include the need for the separation of powers and Parliamentary sovereignty. Three primary legislative developments affecting these principles are: The separation of powers within the United Kingdom, the Legislature, the Judiciary and the Executive, have been made much clearer over the years,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main issue that should first be outlined is that it can be argued that the Human Rights Act causes an imbalance. The Act favours the judiciary over both the executive and the legislature as it gives the judiciary the power to impose their authority over the other two. Section 3 of the Act gives the judiciary the power to read and give effect to primary and secondary legislation in a way which will be most compatible with the Convention Rights. This puts the judiciary in a sufficiently decent position when interpreting legislation passed by the executive and the legislature due to the Act allowing them to declare incompatibility with the European Convention on Human Rights and therefore negating the provision in question. The case of R v A demonstrates the challenges that other legislation has faced due to the ability for the judiciary to declare incompatibility. This was due to section 41 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 restricting the admissibility at trial of evidence relating to the sexual behaviour of those who made allegations of rape. The aim of Parliament was clearly to prevent making the victim uncomfortable by being asked questions of sexual history which could impact willingness to report crime and the prospects of a successful prosecution. However the judiciary position was that upholding the defendant s Article 6 right to a

It is something that is found all around us, has cold and warm properties, is odorless and tasteless (Davis, G. A., Keller, J. Each form can be broken down into many other types of water found in nature. Ice is a solid type of water, while water we drink is a liquid and vapor is a gas. Science concepts that are used during a water unit includes the study of physics (flow and motion), chemistry (solutions, cohesion), biology (plant and animal life) and mathematics... The second week in my water unit has a theme of the water cycle. Each day, the students learn about the different stages in the water cycle. For the preschool students, the water cycle is simplified into four stages, precipitation, condensation, collection and evaporation. In the third week, I decided to expand on the study of different bodies of water. The collection activity used in week two, where my students learned the basics about rivers, lakes and oceans, is used to learn about the biology of animal life. Students first learn about puddles and then expand their exploration into larger bodies of water. My fourth and last week of the month has a mini theme about weather. To make things exciting I focused on storms and then ended the week learning about rainbows. In math, the standards that are addressed are measurement, numbers and counting, sorting and compare and contrast. In measurement, the students take part in an activity where they measure water and compare and contrast the difference in the amount of water used for each action. In numbers and counting, the students learn to count apples on trees, raindrops and snowflakes. One activity has students counting the number of coins used to make water overflow in a cup, and further explore volume in mathematics. For science, the standards addressed are using senses to

  • 12. A Visit From The Goon Squad Analysis Every work of literature requires a theme for it to be worth reading. Jennifer Egan s A Visit from the Goon Squad mainly presents the theme of ruin and redemption throughout the novel. This theme is present alongside with other minor themes like the shift of American culture, and how the characters self centered ways are crush by time. All of the major characters will find themselves at some sort of low point in their lives throughout the novel. Jocelyn becomes addicted to drugs and spends a great amount of her adult life going in and out of rehab; Benny will lose his record label contract and will be seen as a failure by most of those still in the industry; and Sasha will show falling into ruin due to her stealing addiction, self isolation from family, and lack of self love. The idea of ruin and redemption is also present alongside the characters setting. Theses characters live in a post 9/11 New York City, where the towers are destroyed, the streets and rivers are polluted, and surveillance is amplified, making New York City reflect this theme in a mournful way. The same for the story Goodbye, My Love , Ted goes to Italy, and notes the ways Naples is degrading. Theses images of ruin, that the characters are consciousness of, are a representation of ruin in their own lives. Despite the self destruction that each character faces throughout the novel, a counterbalance for the self destruction is created when a sense of redemption is introduced. Two of the stories main

The Residential School system was developed to ensure the assimilation of every indigenous child in Canada. These schools were terribly unsafe for children and exhibited horrible living conditions including abuse, malnutrition and isolation. Conditions in residential schools continue to negatively impact communities generations later, contributing to violence, alcoholism and surprising statistics seen from aboriginal communities. The policy behind the Canadian Residential Schools highlights the injustice done to indigenous people resulting in long term impacts on the community to this day. Residential schools were schools sponsored by the government established to assimilate aboriginal children into European culture. The government believed that children were easier to mold and manipulate than adults therefore took the children away from their families and homes. Distortions of the Daniel Boone Legend and Their Impact [1] The silent film, With Daniel Boone Thru the Wilderness, was produced in 1926: a time of prosperity, an era without the skepticism of the modern American mind. People were not yet questioning the stories and histories they had been taught as children. The entertaining story told in this Robert North Bradbury film is loosely based on the life of an American hero. However, the presence of several insidiously inaccurate historical representations demonstrates how an entertaining film might not be as innocent as it initially seems. This film fails to question certain key issues concerning the Daniel Boone legend. In fact, it does quite the opposite. The creators of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is going on here? [3] Perhaps the answer lies within a series of other, more precise questions. Who was the real Daniel Boone? Why was this person chosen over other similar frontiersmen by early hagiographers to be the next American hero? Who distorted the story of Boone s life and why? What societal factors went into the making of the Boone legend? Why was this legend still immensely popular in the 20th century? How did With Daniel Boone Thru the Wilderness represent, or misrepresent, the story of Daniel Boone, and why is that important? What does all of this mean to Americans today as this nation continues to redefine itself in the early years of the new millennium? [4] That is a lot to consider, but with good cause. Only by asking the tough questions and demanding accountability can a nation hope to correct its past wrongs, learn from its mistakes, and prevent similar injustices from occurring again. This process must begin by taking a new, more responsible look at history. At their very core, A.I.s are algorithms (a step by step procedure based off of mathematical data) that can handle tasks which human intelligence requires. This means they are able to do reasoning tasks like problem solving, prediction, diagnosis, and so forth. On the contrary, the A.I.s portrayed in films and fantasy novels often involves machines that demonstrate human level intelligence. Stuart Russell, the director of the Center for Intelligent Systems at the University of California, Berkeley, raises two points to consider as support to banning autonomous weapons: developing A.I. weapons better than human soldiers and the availability of A.I. weapons (Russell, 2015). To put differently, human soldiers can decide whether or not to shoot someone like a civilian in an extreme environment. An A.I. weapon would only act within its algorithm. So unless the algorithm accounts for every possible scenario, it will produce unfavorable results. However, a game theoretical formulation by G. Arslan and J.S. Shamma invalidates this. Russell stated an A.I. is restricted by its algorithm, so it cannot like a human in complex scenarios. But here, it s possible for the A.I. to make much more complex decisions with negotiation mechanisms. An example of this is a young boy, strapped with a bomb, walking towards a squad of soldiers. The soldiers are preoccupied with other things, so they did not notice the boy. The autonomous turret, near the soldiers, recognizes the explosives and prepares to shoot the hostile. The turret s A.I. is only able to distinguish the difference between lethal and nonlethal targets. However, if a drone with an A.I. built to identify age was there, it can prompt a more favorable scenario. It can stop the turret s A.I. from killing the boy and proceed to two different courses of action. The turret s A.I. can shoot the boy in a nonlethal spot to neutralize him or alert the soldiers of an incoming child. From there, the soldiers can either talk some reason to the kid or disable him. Referencing back to Arkin s point, this is considered the optimal level of human control. The A.I.s makes it easier to accomplish certain goals but the hard decisions are left for humans to make. Also, this allows for more human control in a sense since there are more algorithms
  • 18. The Reoccurring Blues Music And The Blindness Of The Book... The reoccurring blues music plays a significant role in the blindness of the book. In the song Nobody Knows the Trouble I ve Seen by Louis Armstrong, Louis sings Sometimes I m up, sometimes I m down, ohh, yes Lord Sometimes I m almost to the ground, oh yes, Lord Nobody knows the trouble I ve seen . The narrator claims Perhaps I like Louis Armstrong because he s made poetry out of being invisible (Ellison, 10). This statement by the narrator is ironic because the narrator is literally being told that society is blinded to the problems African Americans are facing every day, but he is too blinded himself to realize it. The blues singers have been aware of this problem and are attempting to create reform through their music. The narrator does not even begin to realize his own blindness until he is kicked out of school and goes to work in New York. When the narrator realizes Bledsoe has betrayed him with the Keep him running letters, his blindfold steadily begins to be removed and he begins to understand the complexity of the society in which he lives (Ellison, 147). Emerson, who revealed the content of the letters of recommendation , tells the narrator that There is no point in blinding yourself to the truth. Don t blind yourself (Ellison, 146). Throughout his life, the narrator has been simply living as an invisible man, refusing to face the problems he deals with on a daily basis. He is unable to see that he has constantly been at a disadvantage and been a

Introduction This assignment utilizes one of the file sets in the FAA database, Aircraft Series, to demonstrate a proposed process for quality data preparation (Federal Aviation Administration Data Downloads, n.d.). This documentation includes a process overview, a description of the data files, two attempts at cleaning the data, and validation and standardization of the resulting content. A short discussion of data integrity, data validation, data governance, and documentation follows including recommendations to overcome the challenges encountered. Process Overview Per the advice of Robin Hunt s video tutorial, the exercise began with a notional workflow diagram (2015). After two attempts, the succeeding process consolidated into a series of four phases, each described in the following sections. The complete diagram appears below. Figure 1. And it was just a beginning of the whole technological revolution that will completely turn people s film watching habits upside down. Film viewing was taken into the comfort of the home space with the arrival of television. However the capabilities that home video, followed by DVD s, Blu rays, Netflix and all the other VOD services, were a true breakthrough for the filmbuffs. This change on one hand inaugurated a completely new stage of cinema s relocation to multiple other platforms, on the other ripped off the cult, quasi religious facet of cinema going and spectatorship. In 1996 a New York Times published an article by Susan Sonntag The Decay of Cinema , in which she announced the end of cinephilia. She wrote: The conditions of paying attention in a domestic space are radically disrespectful of film. (...) To be kidnapped, you have to be in a movie theater, seated in the dark among anonymous strangers. What Sonntag here sentimentally mentions was a unique cinema experience, seeing a picture on a wide screen, coexisting in the particular time and space with other spectators. Being among strangers, nevertheless was a very communal experience and discussions after the screenings in cine clubs were a norm. The way we access and view films has changed dramatically. First of all film has moved out of its canonical location, spread to new environments cable tv, mobile devices, digital and online world. Cinema s
  • 21. Deforestation And Its Effects On The Environment To start off, thirty percent of the world s land are forests. (Anonymous, para. 1). However, the number of forests are dwindling down due to the deforestation that happens every year. Deforestation is the act or result of cutting down or burning all the trees in an area (Anonymous). Unfortunately, this damages the land. Deforestation has many factors of what causes the loss of trees. There are agriculture farmers that cut down trees to have more acres to grow more plants or to have more livestock. The trees are used for paper products. The trees are usually chopped down to make room for more homes since the urban living is increasing. Sometimes deforestation is an accident. A wildfire can happen by people or the forest is too dry. Trees are not able to grow because of an erosion. Deforestation has many effects towards the environment. Seventy percent of Earth s land animals and plants live in forests (Anonymous, para. 6). Since species live in the forest, they would lose their homes which leads to millions of species of not having a place to live. The species can die out or become instinct. This messes up the life cycle for the forest because there can be more animals that harms the forest like gnawing on trees which can be harmful. Not only does it affect the species habitat, it can affect the climate. If the trees are chopped down, the sun blares down on the other plants which can dry the plants since the soil will lose its natural moisture. Since the plants are

Considerations shall be given regarding generalized security aspects of a typical UNIX system. The ultimate scope of the following presentation shall remain within the boundaries of a few of the more critical UNIX security aspects. Of particular note will be discussion regarding standard user access, root access, file system security, and internet access precautions. This will not focus on specific measures used to implement security, but rather will investigate both pros and cons typical of a UNIX installation. Finally, a brief description of UNIX security versus other operating systems will be noted. Since no two UNIX based operating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of the utmost security concern is the protection of the root account. The root account allows a user absolute control of the system, including the ability to alter practically every aspect of the systems, from individual files to installed programs. Indeed, an entry in Wikipedia.com notes, that a UNIX administrator should be much like Clark Kent, only using the root account, or becoming Superman, when absolutely necessary, lest the security of the account be compromised (2006). Ultimately, this implementation represents a near surefire way to protect the system against many internal and external threats. By ensuring regularly scheduled root account password changes and ensuring the passwords are strong, the cons noted previously should be relatively easy to avoid. File system security is also very important regardless of the UNIX implementation. UNIX files system security generally allows access permissions to be granted to various defined users and groups. UNIX also contains an access right flag know as the sticky bit . The sticky bit can be used to allow users and groups write access to certain directories within the system. Similarly, the sticky bit can be used by a user to disallow other users with access to the same directory to alter the contents of the file. The file can only be altered by the file owner, the directory owner, and the root account (linuxdevcenter.com, 2006). This particular element allows for a great deal of control

Ancient Egyptian civilization is one of the longest running societies in recorded history, and counterintuitively, this society came to fruition in one of the largest arid desert areas in the world (Kemp 2006: 8). . The initial success of a society is often determined by the resources made available to them, such as food and water, which emphasizes the importance for the NileRiver, which ran through one of the driest desert regions. The Warden owns the shade. The Warden won t share the hammock to any of the campers, even if they are dehydrated or near death. Isn t that just egoistical? Besides, in chapter 20, page 89, the Warden s cabin is described as a very sybaritic place. It has air conditioner, a television, and plenty of furniture that probably costs a lot. But then at Group D, all they have is a wreck room, and it is trash (And a wreck, literally.)compared to the Warden s cabin. Besides, the boys are working for the Warden, finding something for the Warden, getting up everyday at the crack of dawn to dig holes. I don t think that s a dream come true for them. And what does the Warden do? She sits in her fancy cabin, sipping sodas and watching television, not giving any thanks to the boys. The Warden is also quite the scary person. It is told that the Warden uses snake venom as nail polish. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And actually, the Warden is the one having the boys to dig holes all day long, and when X Ray finds the gold tube, the Warden orders everyone in Group D on how to dig and what to do. Though she does give Group D enough water, when they can t find anything, she orders them to dig faster and faster, though not finding any

Since her husband is always working the cattle in their farm, she never has enough attention or any kind of affection. Stream of Consciousness Novel The Development of the Stream of Consciousness Technique in Modernist English Fiction (with Special Reference to the Contributions of James Joyce and Virginia Woolf) Arpan Adhikary The term stream of consciousness as applied in literary criticism to designate a particular mode of prose narrative was first coined by philosopher William James in his book Principles of Psychology (1890) to describe the uninterrupted flow of perceptions, memories and thoughts in active human psyche. As a literary term, however, it denotes a certain narrative technique used in novels in which the narrator records in minute but somewhat abstract way whatever passes through his or her conscious mind. The socalled stream of consciousness in a work of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The style is highly allusive and Joyce deliberately confuses the narrative by making a pastiche of the styles of several genres together while presenting the flows of the continuous thoughts of the principal characters. Here for the first time Joyce also employed the interior monologue which is deemed to be the purest form of the stream of consciousness mode. In Joyce s third and last novel Finnegans Wake (1939) the complexity of the stream of consciousness technique reaches its heights necessitating the text s being one of the least read ones in any language. In this novel Joyce used around forty languages other than English and presented an awkwardly extensive range of literary, mythical, political and historical allusions while narrating the one night dream sequence of the protagonist, a Dublin tavern keeper named Humphrey Chimpden Earwicker. Apart from Joyce, Virginia Woolf also made remarkable contribution to the development of the stream of consciousness mode in the modernist English fiction. In Mrs. Dalloway (1925) Woolf presents the diverse mental recourses of Clarissa Dalloway within the span of one single day, and in the interior monologue of Mrs. Dalloway the narrative breaks with the realistic mode in order to suit the inner reality of the narrator s psyche which is different from the external reality by which she is surrounded. Similar intellectual cogency and finer technical

The Effectiveness Of Nazi Propaganda Maryann Ritter Dr. Megan Sethi HIS 241: World War Two 28 June 2015 The effectiveness of Nazi Propaganda There have been many varied opinions on the effectiveness of the Nazi propaganda used by Hitler and his teams of propaganda writers throughout World War II. His popularity was astounding with the German masses and grew into a frenzied state quickly. Hitler s rise of his image was built on a fairly new manner of technology allowing more exposure to the people. This paper will examine the exponents of this new image building phenomena and prove its use built the man into a myth of sorts. The effectiveness of Nazi propaganda was greater than anyone could have anticipated because Hitler s regime constructed a language of the people using logical fallacies to win the hearts and minds of the German populace. In Hitler s speeches he would state three or four bullet points that the average citizen knew to be true, then couple those bullet points with his own agenda. His lies, therefore, became truthful by association. Introduction World War II was a most horrific loss of human life and the technical advances since the first World War I seemed to push those numbers to the limits. If we want to look at the causes of the Second World War, we must look to the First World War and what were the remainders of limitations placed. Germany s economy was drained following WWI, to recover it increased the social spending and tried to create projects of transportation and

Mermaid Myths The mystical maidens of the sea, better known as mermaids, have been featured in everything from the folklore of the past to the fiction of the present, but what do we really know about them? Legends of these half human, half fish creatures exist all over the globe, and even if they are merely legend, they re a pretty fascinating manifestation of what the human imagination can produce. Here are six things you might not know about these mythical creatures. Number One: The first mermaid was a goddess of fertility. The original mermaid came out of ancient Assyria in 1000 B.C. According to legend, Atargatis, or Derecto, as some scholars refer to her, was a goddess of fertility who fell in love with a young shepherd. While some sources say the young man impregnated her, others say she accidentally killed him. Maybe both happened, but either way, she ended up throwing herself in a lake out of shame and transformed into a human with a long fish tail as a result. She is also said to have inspired the worshipping of Venus and Aphrodite, the Roman and Greek goddesses of love, beauty, and fertility.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 51. Malignant Progression Of A Malignant Disease Abstract The ability of cancerous cells to migrate from their primary site and invade a secondary site is a hallmark of malignant progression. The invasive potential of a tumor hinges on the rigidity of its epithelial microenvironment in vivo, or the stiffness of the matrix on which the cells are grown in vitro. The serine/threonine protein kinase CО± (PKCО±) promotes cell movement and contributes to tumor invasion, partially due to its activity on two newly discovered substrates, CEP4 and О±6 tubulin. We set out to characterize the role of these PKCО± substrates in the invasive phenotype of an aggressive metastatic mammary carcinoma cell line LM2 4175. We hypothesized that phosphorylation resistant mutants of CEP4 and О±6 tubulin would decrease the invasive phenotype. To test this, we transiently transfected LM2 4175 cells with either wild type or phosphorylation resistant CEP4 or О±6 tubulin and studied their migratory efficiency in transwells fitted with matrices of differing stiffness. In parallel, cells were treated with a PKC activator. As predicted, migration was potentiated by stiffer matrices under all conditions, with the exception of cells transfected with phosphorylation resistant CEP4 and О±6 tubulin where the invasion in the softer matrix was greater. Furthering our understanding of the individual contributions of substrates of PKCО± holds clinical promise, as it will permit the development of novel targeted therapeutics to curb cell migration and metastasis.
  • 52. Adoption Argumentative Essay Previously, I thought that adoption was easy, but this course has taught me that it is not as simple as it seems, and there are many different issues that need to be considered. Adoption is an amazing gift to couples who are unable to have children. There are many problems that couples face when they cannot conceive. It is heart wrenching for couples who need to endure years of trying, years of hoping, only to see their efforts failure or end in miscarriages. Thankfully, God has made it possible for childless couples to become parents. Though you and I may take fertility for granted, it is important that we stop and think about this for a moment. Adoptionhasn t always been accessible or possible. Adoption agencies haven t always existed in every region, just waiting for couples to knock on their door. For many centuries in human history, couples had to come to terms with the fact that if they were unable to conceive, they would have to live with the consequence, period. Many children desperately needed to be adopted, and were stuck in oppressive situations. They faced long, difficult, and even tragic lives. Many would bounce from home to home in the foster system and many would stay in government care. As these families are formed, not only is it important to learn new heritage, but also it is equally important for adoptive children to be informed of their biological heritage as well. Adoptive parents have an obligation to disclose all pertinent information to their adoptive children, to include the identity of their birth parents. Adoption also represents a kind of assistance provided to the biological parents of a child. In some cases, adoption provides a number of benefits to the birth mother. For example, if the birth mother of a child is a teenager who would otherwise struggle hard to provide necessary conditions for her child while going to school or working, adoption is the best way out of the situation. In some other cases, parents may be physically or psychologically incapable of raising a child on their own. When such parents are deprived of parental rights for the purpose of adoption, they seek help required to provide good life conditions for their child. Adoptive parents in this case would
