Literary Review of Sexuality and Gender in Science Fiction...
Literary Review
My argument is that SF literature offers a utopian hope for the future where individual differences
are no longer criticized. To conduct this literature review I used multiple information sources to
examine issues of gender and sexuality within science fiction literature. None of these sources
claim to have produced a conclusive work on the interpretation of gender and sexuality in SF. Some
of what I have read seems to be a general overview while some is more focused, but everything
clearly references other theorists, studies and texts to back up the arguments made.

In other words feminist SF is an effective and powerful means for feminist visionary
developments that are crucial for the initial attempts to embark on the cultural and social changes
that are the goals for the feminist political enterprise. Hollinger discusses Le Guin s view that
feminist SF doesn t prophecy the future but it refers to the world as it is. This is interesting
because it emphasises this idea that the SF can explore such issues of gender and sexuality in reality.
Hollinger references works such as The Female Man, Bloodchild , The Left Hand of Darkness and
Women on the Edge of Time together with people like Donna Harraway, Teresa de Lauretis and
Judith Butler. In addition to the well known feminist utopian works of the 70 s Hollinger also
mentions Helen O Loy, which is an early masculine focused novel. We see the importance of
feminist SF when we read about works such as this, because the contrast shows that some SF
writers obviously didn t identify the historical possibility and cultural traditionalism of our notions
regarding gender and sexual identity and the roles of men and women. Hollinger brings together
plenty of evidence to back up her points about feminist theory and SF making for a comprehensive
essay.

Understanding Religious Identity and the Causes of Religious Violence Saira Yamin
Abstract The paper examines various scholarly works that explore the causes of religious violence.
It addresses questions such as: what elements of religion contribute to violence and protracted
conflict; how does religious identity motivate groups engaged in aggressive behavior; other than
threat to and preservation of religious identity, what might be significant underlying causes of the
conflict; and, what parallels could be drawn with ethnic conflict in the construction of religious ...

Imagine an internet dystopia where the most common pop ups are upgrade internet plan to view
this site. A click on the pop up summons ten different plans, and before long there is a thirty dollar
bill for viewing the site. If this was not paid, then the internet access to these sites would be put
onto the slow band . This world is not too far off, with the only law protecting the neutrality of the
internetbeing the fact that the internet is classified as a utility. Today, the FCC (Federal
Communications Commission) is trying to change this by repealing the ruling from 2014 that
made the internet classified as a utility. If these old rules are repealed there will be serious
economic repercussions to consumers and other businesses. Consumers can be charged more for
slower internet, and businesses could be forced to pay a ransom to ensure consumers have access to
their websites.
Many people take for granted the fact that they can go anywhere on the internet. The idea that
every website has equal access to consumers is called internet neutrality. The internet has been this
way for as long as it has been open to the public because the government has protected it. The
internet was classified under article 706 of the telecommunications act of 1996 until 2014. The
goal of this classification was to have net neutrality, but many internet service providers, or ISP s

Employee Retention In Jc s Casino
Well functioning organizations usually have quality employees who work hard to accomplish the
organizations mission statement and goals. However, organizations on occasions face issues as for
retaining these employees, subsequently failing to fill these positions and fulfilling their
organizational goals. Due to the importance of retention, organizations may hire industrial
/organizational psychologists to resolve retention issues in order to remain competitive in their
field. At JC s Casino, improving retention is an issue not only for the owner but also for the
employees as well as the patrons that frequent the casino. The pay is reasonable but employees are
still unhappy and resorting to leaving the organization. Some issues can be found with the
employees working at the casino, but others can be attributed to the lack of professionalism and
leadership within the different leaders and managementof the casino. For example, it was
mentioned several times during exit interviews that Joe, the pit boss, was toxic, overbearing, evil,
and incompetent. The human resources director, Tom Sneed, is afraid of doing what is necessary
due to the fact that Joe is the owner s stepson. This increases the amount of work for the employees

The Effect Of Color On Perceived Sweetness Ratings Essay
Abstract
This study investigated the effect of colour on perceived sweetness ratings. An experimental design
was used with independent variable: liquid sample colour and the dependent variable: perceived
sweetness rating. Participants were 95 undergraduate students taking a 100 level psychology paper.
The study found that light red samples were perceived as sweeter than dark red, and that light green
samples were perceived as sweeter than dark green. These findings suggest that colour does
have an effect on the perception of taste. What is the Effect of Colour on Perceived Sweetness?
Previous psychological research has attempted to understand the effect colour has on perceived
sweetness of varying samples. One such study was conducted by Alley and Alley (1998). They
investigated the role of both colour and physical state on the perception of sweetness. Ten
samples were used. Participants were instructed to swish water between samples. Participants
were asked to rate each sample on a scale of 1 10 (1 being not very sweet at all and 10 being very
sweet). The study found that liquids rated sweeter than solids and that coloured samples were
perceived as sweeter than un coloured. There were no significant differences between colours.
These findings support Alley and Alley s (1998) hypothesis that physical state and colour affects
perception of sweetness. Lavin and Lawless s (1998) study investigated the effect on sweetness
judgements when changing the colour of a fruit

The major issues Sinclair addressed in The Jungle are Capitalism. The explosive growth of
American industry in the late nineteenth century caused a similar expansion in the work force.
Working conditions in the new urban industrial zones were wretched, and a progressive reform
movement soon grew out of the need to address the health and welfare of the American worker. In
1905, Upton Sinclair(1878 1968), a young socialist journalist and novelist, received a $500 advance

Falls Prevention Within The Older Adult Over The Age Of 55...
The paper will discuss falls prevention in the older adult over the age of 55 and new and
alternative interventions for fall prevention compared to current practice. The desired outcome of
the paper is to provide information for fall prevention and, therefore, decrease the occurrence of
falls. First, in order to understand the importance falls have within the clinical setting, statistics
showing the mortality, morbidity and financial impact should be understood. The occurrence of
falls within the acute care setting is a growing problem among the elderly. The evidence shows
that one in three people aged 65 or older will sustain a falland that only half will report the fall to a
caregiver (CDC, 2014). The number increases to one in two when the patient reaches the age of
80. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) defines a fall when a person unintentionally comes to
rest on the ground or another lower level. Falls are not an inevitable part of aging, however, aging
does influence such things as reduced mobility, comorbidities, and cognitive impairment which
contribute to fall risk. Falls are one of the leading causes of injuriesin the acute care setting. The
injuries sustained from falls leads to increased hospital stay time and a chance for further injuries
which may harm the patient (CDC, 2014). According to the CDC in 2013, 2.5 million people
suffered a fall, of these falls 734,000 were hospitalized. The falls also resulted in 22,900 people
dying from fall

Criminal Justice Policy Analysis
The assumption one may hold regarding policy making in criminal justice is that individuals are
well informed about conviction rates as well as arrests, which influences changes in the criminal
justice system. However, such assumption raises doubts on the severity of punishment. Further,
perceived probability of arrest is related to subsequent criminal behavior. Such an argument is
based on the belief that people with lower perceived probabilities of arrest are more likely to get
involved in crimeduring subsequent periods.

Further, the policy makers may also determine the consequences and costs of the policy and
identify whether such policy did solve a different problem that originally intended or if it achieved
its goals at a reasonable cost. The policy analysis process safeguards against harm to the people by
ensuring that the policy made does not affect them negatively.
Perceptions Compared to the Definitions in the Readings
According to the readings, the definitions of policy making and policy analysis are detailed with
a focus on why, what, how, and when they can be applied to the policy process. However, one
may give definitions that are general and majoring on the overview of the terms. However, the text
provides clear relationship on policy making and policy analysis and how they work together.
Additionally, the definitions provide a clear beginning point for the application of the terms in real
life in addition to supporting facts that the terms may be defined by an individual who is not
conversant with the criminal justice field.

one another because they always wrote letters to each other. e.In my opinion there is no
significance to Nettie s name. f.You ve got to fight and get away from Albert. He ain t no good

about Albert and that he may be dangerous. Also she doesn t want her sister to suffer which is
why she writes her the letter about what Albert was going to do to her. 3.Minor Characters:
a.Celie s mother b.The connection that this character has to both Nettie and Celie is that she is
their mother. Her name is never mentioned throughout the book and she is the wife of Fonso

Turkey Accession to EU
Will Europe Open its Doors?
Arguments and Implications for Turkey s Accession to the EU The possible accession of Turkey to
the European Union is at the center of the controversy surrounding the EU s enlargement. Given the
disparate histories of the EU member states, Turkey s own complex and battle scarred history, and
nationalistic considerations, the question of whether Turkey will ultimately be accepted as an EU
member, with full rights and privileges, is one to which there are few clear cut answers. The debate
surrounding this issue continues to gain momentum both in Turkey and in the European Union.

At the Copenhagen summit in December 2002, the EU outlined the political and economic
conditions that Ankara would have to satisfy before formal accession talks could begin. The so
called Copenhagen criteria require that Turkey have a functioning market economy and stable
institutions that guarantee democracy, the rule of law, and human rights (Phillips). With the
2002 election of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), a pro European party with Islamist
roots, a number of reforms led to increased political and economic stability. Recep Tayyip
Erdogan, who became Turkey s Prime Minister in March 2003, made it a priority to prepare
Turkey for eventual EU membership, and passed several constitutional and judicial reforms to
that end. (Solana 12). As Turkey s political reforms continued, the EU leaders agreed on
December 16, 2004 to start accession negotiations with Turkey beginning in October 2005.
Despite an attempt by the Austrian government to offer Turkey less than full membership, EU
accession negotiations were officially launched, and Turkey has closed its first chapter in
negotiations in June 2006 ( History , pars. 8 9). In spite of this, Turkey encountered several
roadblocks along the way. Specifically, these included strained relations with the Kurds in northern
Iraq and separatist PKK guerillas who resumed fighting following a ceasefire (Zakaria 45). Another
major challenge that Turkey faced was Cyprus. Javier

William Wordsworth s Lyrical Ballads
Imagine traveling down a gravel road in the countryside, set in England during the 19th Century. As
you continue your journey, you stumble across a woodland child and inquire about general
questions. Being inquisitive and intrigued by her fair beauty, queries regarding he family arise and
soon you find her concept of deathskewed. We are Seven, composed by William Wordsworth
and
published in Lyrical Ballads, is one of Wordsworth darker poems and unlike his characteristic
Romantic style. Wordsworth lost his mother at the tender age of eight, coincidentally, the same
age as the cottage girl. This poem stems from Wordsworth s personal experiences from when he
journeyed across Europe later in life and stumbled across a child near Goodrich Castle, whom is
alleged to be the muse behind this poem. The poem depicts the struggle the speaker faces as he
tries to verbalize the truth over the deceased cottage girl s brother and sister. The characterizations
regarding the speaker s social classand age in regards to his audience, the little girl, contribute to
the colliding ideology during this exchange. Wordsworth begins the scene of this poem with the
master strolling down a road in the countryside. The silence and loneliness of the poem breaks
when the man comes across a little girl frolicking alone. Before any words are exchanged, a
description of the child is given, alluding to her social standing among society. Described as having

The Theory Of Cognitive Phenomenology
Cognitive phenomenology is the theory that in our minds there are greater, non sensory thoughts
occurring. Though most people accept sensory phenomenology, many question or deny the idea of
cognitive phenomenology. In this essay, I will argue that there is such a thing as cognitive thinking
that is completely unrelated to our regular senses. I will discuss the theories and arguments
suggested by Strawson, and Bayne and Montague and also provide objections given by Prinz and
respond to these objections. With this theory, I plan to argue that cognitive phenomenology is
separate and distinct and can occur independently of our senses.
Phenomenology is the what it s like experience: what something feels like or tastes like or looks

The semantics and content of the sentence is playing a large role in how you experience that
particular experience. During this experience though, you may be aware of other things
happening like the words on the page or even the smell of coffee and the guy breathing heavily
next to you. But during all of this, while you are reading and comprehending sentences, you have
cognitive experiences which is essential to your conscious comprehending. Strawson claims that to
deny this, one would have to claim that everything we experience in life is made entirely of bare
sensation of some kind. Strawson believes that some people have a hard time understanding this
concept because it s difficult to figure out exactly what is contributing to the experience being
created based on your understanding of what is being communicated by a sentence in such a way
as to take the experience as the object of reflective thought. To further separate sensory experience
from cognitive experience, Strawson compares having the sensation of blue with the cognitive
experience of consciously understanding cognitive content. Both of them can be described as
transparent, we re unaware of them when considering the actual blue object or the cognitive
content. While they have something in common, they re also different; for the sensation of blue we

How Did The Collapse Of Capitalism
I agree with Karl Marx statement about capitalism. Marx felt that capitalism through
industrialization had increased the productive capability or power of the world s economy far
beyond what individuals had ever witnessed before. Despite this fact, Marx also felt that
capitalism created two different classes of people that were competing with each other on social
hierarchy. First, was the bourgeoisie who owned and controlled the means of creating a
production, and they also hired wage laborers to distribute their production. Second, was the
proletariat, who were mere common workers who owned nothing of a real production or any real
power to hired many workers. They had the right through to sell their own labor. Capitalisms
foundation is that it ensures these classes would struggle against one another. To the point where
the class of workers would become massive, and oppressed each other enough that it would
overthrow the bourgeoisie. Moreover, capitalism social classes would seize the means of production
from bourgeoisie and end the economic system eventually. The system of socialismwould be
ushered in and would gradually develop into pure communism.

during its history. Criticisms mostly ranges from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stereotypes About Gender Differences
I ve never been one to believe that the entirety of one s personality relies solely on certain traits or
associations. However, stereotypes exist for a reason. While generalisations are often destructive,
they must be rooted in some sort of truth. After all, a particular observation must have been made
many times for most sweeping statements to become embedded in one s thought processes.
Stereotypesregarding genderfollow this pattern as well. Men and women differ in not only their
inclinations, but even tend to pursue different aspirations. They also tend to communicate in
different manners, often using different approaches to support others and solve problems. And, of
course, the most blaring differences are those in the ways that men and

The Benefits Of Methamphetamine
Methamphetamine is a highly addictive central nervous stimulant that induces the release of
serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. Its side effects include increased alertness, increased
activity, high blood pressure, decreased appetite, euphoria, psychosis, and severe dental disease
(Ravenel et al. 229). In 1919 methamphetamine was synthesized for the first time and was utilized
for treatment of attention deficit disorder, to enhance physical performance, anorectic effects,
increase wakefulness, and as a general mood enhancer (Padilla and Ritter 148). The manufacturing
of methamphetamine became strictly regulated by The Controlled Substance Act of 1970,

It is vital to determine current use of methamphetamine and refer the patient to a rehabilitation
center before any elective treatment. Meth users may be hesitant to admit drug usage, so dental
professionals should express concern for the state of their oral health while being nonjudgmental in
their questioning. Reviewing basic oral hygiene and the etiology of periodontal disease with the
patient is recommended. Restorations with conventional means in patients who will continue to use
meth is contradictory as the decay will recur underneath the material. Instead, Kelsch recommends
sealing the area with fluoride and a xylitol releasing fluoride varnish and/or glass ionomer sealant
and surface protectant which will still benefit the patient during active drug use (24). Stimulation of
saliva can be achieved by prescribing medications to increase saliva flow such as pilocarpine or
cevimeline, as well as advising the patient to chew sugarless gum. A neutral fluoride is
recommended to aid in the remineralization of tooth structure and buffering the oral pH (Goodchild
and Donaldson 587). Angular chelitis and oral thrush may be treated with a fifty fifty mixture of
Benadryl and Kaopeptate, which should offer some pain relief and encourage the healing process
(Kelsch 25). Unfortunately, in the advanced stages of meth mouth, the only treatment may be

Strength Training
The benefit of strength and strength training for footballers is well supported by research. For
example, De Proft and colleagues had one group of Belgian professionals perform extra weight
training during the season. Compared to a control group of colleagues who did no extra training,
the players improved their kicking power and leg strength. Reilly (1990)[2] showed that the
stronger players outlasted the weaker players in terms of a regular place in the team, and had
reduced injury risks. He recommends that leg strength in particular is developed, especially in the
quadriceps and hamstrings, to help stabilise the knee joint, which is the most frequently injured
joint in football. Apor (1998)[3], a Hungarian researcher who has been involved... Show more

These exercises demand a high force of contraction in response to a rapid loading of lengthening
muscles. For this reason, they should be more accurately called reversible action or rebound
exercises. The training effort increases the force production in the muscles, but the movements are
performed at faster speeds than weight training exercises. Thus rebound exercises are more
specific to the sprinting and jumping movements in football. These exercises should be done in 3 5
sets of 8 repetitions for each leg, with at least one minute s rest between sets. The quality and speed
of the movement is the priority. The other training element that is required for improving sprinting
speed is sprinting itself. This should be done with maximum efforts over 30 60m. Again, at least
one minute s rest between runs should be allowed so that quality can be maintained. Remember,
with this kind of training the aim is to develop the maximum speed; endurance should not become a
factor. Sprinting done uphill, with weighted jackets, or towing weights is also useful because it
adds resistance to the sprint movement, placing greater load on the muscles in the most specific

The Pros And Cons Of Cryonics
Cryonics will not be possible in the future. People today view cryonics as unorthodox, but it will be
a matter of is it worth it to spend $200,000 ($400 every year) to have a full body suspension or
even $80,000 for a brain suspension when one may only be partially cognitive(being able to be
conscious or fully aware). With the rapid increase in technology, theoretically, cryonics is
possible, but only if we are talking about a materialistic point of view. The idea is to be able to
download a brainonto a computer. The process is flawed because the cooling of the body
damages part of the brain. With the damaged part of the brain, one could lose personality,
knowledge, speech, and many other aspects of oneself (Harris). From a Christian standpoint, one
could argue that it is useless to do such a thing because why would one want to come back from
heaven? From a secular point of view, it seems that this is the answer to many problems.
Immortality, sickness, epidemics, and extinction are all things that could come about or be
prevented.
While the process of downloading one s mind onto a computer seems difficult to understand, one
must know the process of being cryogenically frozen. First, the body must be taken while ... Show

The Christian point of view would definitely end this possibility of life after life indefinitely. Still,
it is important to understand that God put humans on the earth to have dominion over it. Humans
should try and stretch the limits of science and social norms. Cryonics is definitely a stretch, but
many look at new concepts as impossible. Most major discoveries came from people willing to
push the idea of a better more efficient world. Cryonics is almost indefinitely impossible which in
turn, can help one to focus on other things while humans still exist, such as finding ways now to
cure diseases, help the poor, heal those not only with illnesses but those who need emotional and

Battle Of The Confederate Essay
In the heat of battle, against her own people, America fights the most destructive war to the country,
which killed more of her own lives than any other war in history. The United States, not nearly as
united as before, started splitting in two when in 1860, South Carolina seceded from the Union,
quickly followed by other Southern states, forming the 11th state, the Confederacy. Since the
Southern states used agriculture done by slaves as their economy, when Northern states started
opposing slavery s extension into the West, the Southerners feared they would lose their main
money source. The Confederacy was founded upon the truth that the Negro does not equal the
white man (The Civil War). Lincoln did not want to start a war with his own... Show more content

The Army of the Potomac was the largest Union Army in the Civil War, and it fought in many
important battles ( Army Of The Potomac ). The Confederate cavalry was said to have given
three options when being faced run, surrender, or die. The Federal cavalry knew they had to
improve their unequipped and unorganized fighting force if they were ever going to get a
chance to claim victory. Hooker s ultimate goal was to crush Robert E. Lee in battle, so he took
the cavalry, reformed it, and made it a new force of over 2,000 men, which acted as a single
body ( The Battle of Kelly s Ford Summary Facts ). This was the largest cavalry force to be put
together by a lone commander up to that point. Control of this force was given to Averell. With
this new army, they would have a chance to change the course of the war in their favor. After the
renovation, Hooker wanted a place to test his new brigade and turn the tables on the
Confederates, so he chose Fitzhugh Lee s fort at Kelly s Ford on the Rappahannock River. He
figured he could show the Confederates how good the Unions can be if they are organized. Now
that the battle was set in place, the real course changing fight could

California Raffle Regulations Essay
California Raffle Regulations
It s legal for nonprofit organizations (NGO) to hold raffles in California, either for the raise of
funds or for charitable purposes. At least 90% of the proceedings from ticket sales must either be
used in the organization s interest, or be donated to one or more charities that are established in
California.
Prior to holding any raffles, an NGO must first register Attorney General s Registry of Charitable
Trusts. According to the Penal Code, section 320.5, NGOs can only register with the trust if they
have qualified to conduct business for at least 1 year in the state of California.
If an organization decides to offer both free and paid tickets for its raffle, the event will be

An annual registration statement can be filed with the UC San Diego Foundation. By doing so, the
organization can easily register all of its upcoming raffles.
The 90/10 Rule
According to the newest laws and regulations, all raffles must comply with this rule. It states that
90% of all raffle proceeds have to go to charity. The remaining 10% can be used by the
organizing party for raffle related expenses. Due to this rule, it is very hard for organizations to
offer substantial prizes based solely on ticket proceeds. A solution to this rule can be found in prize
donations.
Tax Regulations
Because raffles are considered a form of lottery, the IRS keeps a close eye on every organization
that registered to hold such an event. As such, the organizing party is responsible for reporting the
prize winner to the IRS, if it meets both of the following two conditions:
The prize pool value exceeds $600
The prize pool value is at least 300 times larger than the price of one raffle ticket
If both of the conditions are met, the organizer must make sure that the winner of the prize fills out
a tax identification form

The Impact Of Slavery On Black Families Today
Before I started to read this article, I thought of many ways and experiences of how slavery affected
black families to still have an impact on us today. I feel that, slavery impacted black families
strongly. Some ways slavery impacted black families is by, the way we cook and prepare food,
while slaves we had to find ways to cook food for our family, some other ways slaveryhas impacted
black families today is also by, bringing black families close together by, giving us the urge to want
to know about our people and where we came from, slavery today has given us independence to
work and get our own, also, one of the most important ways I feel slavery has impacted black

meaning of self esteem, without any illusion. Ganesha is urging you to let down your guard and

Wal Mart Is A Key Customer For Any Consumer Brand Essay
There is no doubt that Wal Mart is a key customer for any consumer brand. And keeping a
strategically long term relationship with a retailer giant like Wal Mart is inevitable, yet
balancing sales with plenty of others is vital to a brand s health. P G has to find ways to reduce
its dependence on these retailers. This is the strategy that P G is using today, focusing on its
core products and distinctive capabilities to serve those high end segments. P G also faces
competition from Wal Mart s private brands. The retailer has been very aggressive in recent
years in offering private brands. (Cravens Piercy, 2013) Creation of outstanding customer
demand for the firm s products, and the generation of sales through other retailers require the
following actions: Strengthening core premium, biggest and most profitable brands such as
Pampers, Crest and Head Shoulders. Because it has so many brands, P G contracts dozens, if not
hundreds of agencies all over the world to help it manage everything from ad campaigns and
events to package design and product launches, PR and displays inside Wal Mart and other

Human Resources Management (HRM) is people who work in an organization. The manager is a

Do Managers Have the Right to Seek Control over Their...
Case Study 1
Question: Do managers have the right to seek control over their employees? Does anyone, for that
matter, have their right to control others? Does control imply manipulation? And if so, is there
anything wrong with managers manipulating employees through goal setting or other motivational
Manipulation is getting what you want by ignoring or harming the desires of others. Manipulators
use charm, persuasion, coaxing, trickery, and misdirection. The underlying idea is I have to fool
people to make them give me what I want. We can catch ourselves falling into this behavior when
you aren t listening to other people, when you ignore what they want and when you pretend that

Control is an obvious action to handle while manipulation is much more without knowing toward
the person. When people says about manipulation, they would mostly says that it is either a
person lie or withhold the truth to get someone to change themselves, giving them the false
illusion of choice. As for control, they would says that it is way more like blocking a person s way
to go or do.
For my own opinion, there is no wrong with managers manipulating employees through goal
setting or other motivational techniques, but it has to depend on how much a manager manipulate.
An appropriate manipulation would give benefits to everyone. For example, a manager handles an
organization by lying employees without their knowing to reach the target. It does not represent
that the manager did not set limitation on the organization, but using a way more not knowing by
employees to ensure that they would not challenge on risky projects. The goal setting would be
determined by manager to reach by manipulating. Beside manipulation, managers do have their
own ways to reach the goal setting as well. Some of the managers prefer control employees than
manipulating them. It is because manipulation is much more high risks than control employees
works. For example, manager may set budget on the project to avoid high risks burden to hold. It
is not to say that it is bad outcomes, but employees may be not satisfied and could not develop a
better idea. Someone may think that manipulation is

1 Introduction Since the early 20th century, mergers began to play a great role in the development
of modern corporations in different fields such as foods, construction, manufacture, natural
resources and technology. A merger can be defined as the absorption of one firm by another (Ross,
Westerfield and Jeffrey, 2002). The acquiring firm maintains its name and identity, and it obtains all
the assets and liabilities of the target company. The acquired company no longer exists as an
independent entity. While mergers could be categorized into three types: horizontal mergers,

his feelings of no longer having a connection to his parents, who were immigrants, and his Mexican

Mackenzie Mckee Of Teen Mom Three Argumentative Analysis
Mackenzie McKee of Teen Mom 3 is now under fire after posting a picture of her son, who is
only 4 years old, holding up a gun while he was out hunting. Of course some people think it is
fine to take a young boy hunting, but most of MacKenzie s fans are not okay with it from reading
their comments. OK! Magazine shared all about what Mackenzie McKee s followers had to say
about this new photo. Obviously when MacKenzie posted the photo of her son Gannon with a deer
after it was shot while out huntingshe didn t learn a lesson about posting this stuff with her fans.
The latest photo shows her son Gannon holding what appears to be a real gun. MacKenzie shared
the caption Don t worry momma, I ll put supper on the table. After that McKee used the hashtag
showing that she thinks she is raising him right by teaching him to hunt.
Mackenzie McKee s followers are going off now and are not happy. Many of them don t feel like
a boy should be holding a gun at such a young age. They feel like he is not old enough to
understand what it means to take a life and is basically just doing what he has been taught is okay.
One comment even makes it sound like McKee has lost a fan or two over this one.

In 2012, Janis E. Roberts sued her former employer (CareFlite) for what she reasoned was an

CareFlite is a notable case in regards to invasion of privacy various reasons. The first reason that
this case is notable is due to the fact that it brings to question whether it is legal for an employer
to terminate their employee over what was said on a Facebook post. In addition to this reason, it
is important to question the legality of using not just the post itself, but the legality of
terminating an employee due to what was said in a private Facebook message that is directed to
a specific individual. The post made by Roberts was published on Facebook where it was public
for the world to see, but this post was not made in the workplace, which brings to question of
whether or not this piece of information can be deemed as private ; however, the messages sent
to the compliance officer was meant to be private because it can only be seen by the officer.
These reasons make the case notable because it brings up the issue of whether an individual s

Boys in the Boat Essay
Resilient Rowers of the 1936 Olympics
In an age when Americans enjoy dozens of cable sports channels, when professional athletes often
command salaries in the tens of millions of dollars...it s hard to fully appreciate how important the
rising prominence of the University of Washington s crew was to the people of Seattle in 1935
(Brown 173). As seen by this quote, America is a much different place than what it was in the 1930s
. The times have changed significantly. In today s day and age we have it all too good. The
world we live in is one of leisure and not nearly as much hard work as there used to be. Back in the
early 20th century the people had it pretty rough and dealt with many frightening problems of their

and again. Industrial production fell by 50 percent, and by 1933 perhaps 15 million...were out
of work (Zinn). This description by Howard Zinn really paints a picture of the turmoil that was
occurring in the US during the depression. The depression caused people to be afraid of the
future because of all the uncertainty that came with it. This was especially true for Joe Rantz.
Joe came from an extremely poor family and had been hit hard by the depression. He knew that if
he wanted to rise above the depression and the sad life he lived, he would have to make the cut for
the University of Washington crew team. Joe knew all too well that failing at this rowing business
would mean, at best, returning to a small, bleak town on the Olympic Peninsula with nothing ahead
of him but the prospect of living alone in a cold, empty, half‐built house (Brown 13). It was this
that motivated Joe and it was this that pushed him to succeed. The Great Depression sparked the
fear of an uncertain future into Joe, which is demonstrated by Brown in the quote, Whether you
were a banker or a baker, a homemaker or homeless, it was with you night and day‐‐‐a
terrible, unrelenting uncertainty about the future, a feeling that the ground could drop out from

Not That F Word.
Not That F Word
It is not uncommon to sometimes hear or see what here in America is considered to be a strange or
different name and decide to make fun of it or the holder of that name. This is a major obstacle that
an Iranian immigrant named Firoozeh Dumas, author of The F Word had to face. She illustrates a
picture using words about the hardships that her name has brought upon her during her entire life.
Throughout her essay, she uses real life examples, humor, and a conversational tone to show her
audience the poverty she faced when transitioning from the Iranian culture to the American culture.
In her essay, Dumas conjoined her style with how she builds ethos in the reader s eyes. This
creates a very attractive way to convey the argument, however it still lacks certain strengths. Had
she written in a slightly more formal tone and included more evidence, she could have still used
humor and continued to build ethos by appealing to a more professional group. The use of an easy
going and conversational style in the essay helps to illustrate the claim in a way that most readers
can recognize.
Her essay is aimed at Middle Americans or other immigrants living in the country who face the
same issue as her. Having a name that is uncommon and hard to pronounce, can be a challenge
for the peers of those with the names. The claim is not being made toward the easy to pronounce
Bill s, Susan s, and Richard s. The claim is also not aimed at professionals or people of

yourself by saying In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit while doing the motion

there are some people who bow, there are some people, who bend their knees, and there are some
people who actually go all the way down to the ground. The reason for the bow is to bow to the
altar, genuflect to the tabernacle. Genuflecting is when the right knee touches the floor and the
tabernacle is where the Body of Christ is kept. Once at the seats, the entrance song begins. This

  • 2. Literary Review of Sexuality and Gender in Science Fiction... Literary Review My argument is that SF literature offers a utopian hope for the future where individual differences are no longer criticized. To conduct this literature review I used multiple information sources to examine issues of gender and sexuality within science fiction literature. None of these sources claim to have produced a conclusive work on the interpretation of gender and sexuality in SF. Some of what I have read seems to be a general overview while some is more focused, but everything clearly references other theorists, studies and texts to back up the arguments made. The Cambridge Companion to Science Fiction Edward James This book combines essays by academics and writers of SF, which examine the genre from diverse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words feminist SF is an effective and powerful means for feminist visionary developments that are crucial for the initial attempts to embark on the cultural and social changes that are the goals for the feminist political enterprise. Hollinger discusses Le Guin s view that feminist SF doesn t prophecy the future but it refers to the world as it is. This is interesting because it emphasises this idea that the SF can explore such issues of gender and sexuality in reality. Hollinger references works such as The Female Man, Bloodchild , The Left Hand of Darkness and Women on the Edge of Time together with people like Donna Harraway, Teresa de Lauretis and Judith Butler. In addition to the well known feminist utopian works of the 70 s Hollinger also mentions Helen O Loy, which is an early masculine focused novel. We see the importance of feminist SF when we read about works such as this, because the contrast shows that some SF writers obviously didn t identify the historical possibility and cultural traditionalism of our notions regarding gender and sexual identity and the roles of men and women. Hollinger brings together plenty of evidence to back up her points about feminist theory and SF making for a comprehensive essay. Wendy Pearson writes her chapter on SF and queer theory discussing how some people recognise a fundamental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If this was not paid, then the internet access to these sites would be put onto the slow band . This world is not too far off, with the only law protecting the neutrality of the internetbeing the fact that the internet is classified as a utility. Today, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) is trying to change this by repealing the ruling from 2014 that made the internet classified as a utility. Consumers can be charged more for slower internet, and businesses could be forced to pay a ransom to ensure consumers have access to their websites. • 9. The Effect Of Color On Perceived Sweetness Ratings Essay Abstract This study investigated the effect of colour on perceived sweetness ratings. An experimental design was used with independent variable: liquid sample colour and the dependent variable: perceived sweetness rating. Participants were 95 undergraduate students taking a 100 level psychology paper. The study found that light red samples were perceived as sweeter than dark red, and that light green samples were perceived as sweeter than dark green. These findings suggest that colour does have an effect on the perception of taste. What is the Effect of Colour on Perceived Sweetness? Previous psychological research has attempted to understand the effect colour has on perceived sweetness of varying samples. One such study was conducted by Alley and Alley (1998). They investigated the role of both colour and physical state on the perception of sweetness. Ten samples were used. Participants were instructed to swish water between samples. Participants were asked to rate each sample on a scale of 1 10 (1 being not very sweet at all and 10 being very sweet). The study found that liquids rated sweeter than solids and that coloured samples were perceived as sweeter than un coloured. There were no significant differences between colours. These findings support Alley and Alley s (1998) hypothesis that physical state and colour affects perception of sweetness. • 12. Falls Prevention Within The Older Adult Over The Age Of 55... The paper will discuss falls prevention in the older adult over the age of 55 and new and alternative interventions for fall prevention compared to current practice. The desired outcome of the paper is to provide information for fall prevention and, therefore, decrease the occurrence of falls. First, in order to understand the importance falls have within the clinical setting, statistics showing the mortality, morbidity and financial impact should be understood. The occurrence of falls within the acute care setting is a growing problem among the elderly. The evidence shows that one in three people aged 65 or older will sustain a falland that only half will report the fall to a caregiver (CDC, 2014). The number increases to one in two when the patient reaches the age of 80. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) defines a fall when a person unintentionally comes to rest on the ground or another lower level. Falls are not an inevitable part of aging, however, aging does influence such things as reduced mobility, comorbidities, and cognitive impairment which contribute to fall risk. Falls are one of the leading causes of injuriesin the acute care setting. The injuries sustained from falls leads to increased hospital stay time and a chance for further injuries which may harm the patient (CDC, 2014). Such an argument is based on the belief that people with lower perceived probabilities of arrest are more likely to get involved in crimeduring subsequent periods. Perceptions Compared to the Definitions in the Readings According to the readings, the definitions of policy making and policy analysis are detailed with a focus on why, what, how, and when they can be applied to the policy process. Arguments and Implications for Turkey s Accession to the EU The possible accession of Turkey to the European Union is at the center of the controversy surrounding the EU s enlargement. Given the disparate histories of the EU member states, Turkey s own complex and battle scarred history, and nationalistic considerations, the question of whether Turkey will ultimately be accepted as an EU member, with full rights and privileges, is one to which there are few clear cut answers. At the Copenhagen summit in December 2002, the EU outlined the political and economic conditions that Ankara would have to satisfy before formal accession talks could begin. The so called Copenhagen criteria require that Turkey have a functioning market economy and stable institutions that guarantee democracy, the rule of law, and human rights (Phillips). With the 2002 election of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), a pro European party with Islamist roots, a number of reforms led to increased political and economic stability. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who became Turkey s Prime Minister in March 2003, made it a priority to prepare Turkey for eventual EU membership, and passed several constitutional and judicial reforms to that end. We are Seven, composed by William Wordsworth and published in Lyrical Ballads, is one of Wordsworth darker poems and unlike his characteristic Romantic style. Wordsworth lost his mother at the tender age of eight, coincidentally, the same age as the cottage girl. This poem stems from Wordsworth s personal experiences from when he journeyed across Europe later in life and stumbled across a child near Goodrich Castle, whom is alleged to be the muse behind this poem. The poem depicts the struggle the speaker faces as he tries to verbalize the truth over the deceased cottage girl s brother and sister. The characterizations regarding the speaker s social classand age in regards to his audience, the little girl, contribute to the colliding ideology during this exchange. Wordsworth begins the scene of this poem with the master strolling down a road in the countryside. The silence and loneliness of the poem breaks when the man comes across a little girl frolicking alone. Before any words are exchanged, a description of the child is given, alluding to her social standing among society. Described as having Her hair so thick with many a curl / That cluster ... Though most people accept sensory phenomenology, many question or deny the idea of cognitive phenomenology. In this essay, I will argue that there is such a thing as cognitive thinking that is completely unrelated to our regular senses. I will discuss the theories and arguments suggested by Strawson, and Bayne and Montague and also provide objections given by Prinz and respond to these objections. With this theory, I plan to argue that cognitive phenomenology is separate and distinct and can occur independently of our senses. Strawson claims that to deny this, one would have to claim that everything we experience in life is made entirely of bare sensation of some kind. Strawson believes that some people have a hard time understanding this concept because it s difficult to figure out exactly what is contributing to the experience being created based on your understanding of what is being communicated by a sentence in such a way as to take the experience as the object of reflective thought. To further separate sensory experience from cognitive experience, Strawson compares having the sensation of blue with the cognitive experience of consciously understanding cognitive content. Both of them can be described as transparent, we re unaware of them when considering the actual blue object or the cognitive content. • 19. How Did The Collapse Of Capitalism I agree with Karl Marx statement about capitalism. Marx felt that capitalism through industrialization had increased the productive capability or power of the world s economy far beyond what individuals had ever witnessed before. Despite this fact, Marx also felt that capitalism created two different classes of people that were competing with each other on social hierarchy. First, was the bourgeoisie who owned and controlled the means of creating a production, and they also hired wage laborers to distribute their production. Second, was the proletariat, who were mere common workers who owned nothing of a real production or any real power to hired many workers. They had the right through to sell their own labor. Capitalisms foundation is that it ensures these classes would struggle against one another. To the point where the class of workers would become massive, and oppressed each other enough that it would overthrow the bourgeoisie. Moreover, capitalism social classes would seize the means of production from bourgeoisie and end the economic system eventually. Reilly (1990)[2] showed that the stronger players outlasted the weaker players in terms of a regular place in the team, and had reduced injury risks. For this reason, they should be more accurately called reversible action or rebound exercises. Thus rebound exercises are more specific to the sprinting and jumping movements in football. These exercises should be done in 3 5 sets of 8 repetitions for each leg, with at least one minute s rest between sets. The quality and speed of the movement is the priority. The other training element that is required for improving sprinting speed is sprinting itself. This should be done with maximum efforts over 30 60m. Again, at least one minute s rest between runs should be allowed so that quality can be maintained. Remember, with this kind of training the aim is to develop the maximum speed; endurance should not become a factor. With the rapid increase in technology, theoretically, cryonics is possible, but only if we are talking about a materialistic point of view. The idea is to be able to download a brainonto a computer. The process is flawed because the cooling of the body damages part of the brain. With the damaged part of the brain, one could lose personality, knowledge, speech, and many other aspects of oneself (Harris). From a Christian standpoint, one could argue that it is useless to do such a thing because why would one want to come back from heaven? From a secular point of view, it seems that this is the answer to many problems. Immortality, sickness, epidemics, and extinction are all things that could come about or be prevented. • 35. Roberts V. Careflite Case Summary In 2012, Janis E. Roberts sued her former employer (CareFlite) for what she reasoned was an invasion of privacy by intrusion upon seclusion. CareFlite argues that Roberts was terminated for what they deemed as unprofessional and insubordinate (CITE THE CASE) activity posted on her Facebook. Roberts was working as a paramedic and she posted a comment on her coworker Schoenhardt s page claiming that she wanted to slap the patient (CITE THE CASE) who was deemed to require restraining. An officer from Careflite noticed the post and the officer sent Roberts a message regarding the fact that the public can see her post and encourages Roberts to delete it. After Roberts responded to the officer s message with an aggressive tone, Roberts deleted her original post that contained the slap comment. After this occurred, Roberts sent her coworker and email of the exchange of the messages between her and the compliance officer. However, Roberts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CareFlite is a notable case in regards to invasion of privacy various reasons. The first reason that this case is notable is due to the fact that it brings to question whether it is legal for an employer to terminate their employee over what was said on a Facebook post. In addition to this reason, it is important to question the legality of using not just the post itself, but the legality of terminating an employee due to what was said in a private Facebook message that is directed to a specific individual. The post made by Roberts was published on Facebook where it was public for the world to see, but this post was not made in the workplace, which brings to question of whether or not this piece of information can be deemed as private ; however, the messages sent to the compliance officer was meant to be private because it can only be seen by the officer. These reasons make the case notable because it brings up the issue of whether an individual s Facebook can be considered as part of their right to privacy of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its evident from the survey that the company s present customers got to know about it from other exporters/importers or friends. Therefore it is important for SARK Logistics to amplify its marketing activities and market itself through internet and newspapers/magazines. This would help them increase its customers base especially when not many new customers have been added in the last 3 years. пѓјThe company should make an effort to increase its customers particularly exporters as the number of exporters are about half in relation to the number of exporters. Also with the Government proposing to impose an anti dumping duty on the import of tyres, the company might lose its customers who import tyres due to the duty affecting their imports. Additionally the company should focus more on increasing its exporting customers as the Make in India campaign gains momentum in the economy, there will be a chance of exports rising and thus it ll be easy to find customers who are willing to ... • 37. Boys in the Boat Essay Resilient Rowers of the 1936 Olympics In an age when Americans enjoy dozens of cable sports channels, when professional athletes often command salaries in the tens of millions of dollars...it s hard to fully appreciate how important the rising prominence of the University of Washington s crew was to the people of Seattle in 1935 (Brown 173). As seen by this quote, America is a much different place than what it was in the 1930s . The times have changed significantly. In today s day and age we have it all too good. The world we live in is one of leisure and not nearly as much hard work as there used to be. Back in the early 20th century the people had it pretty rough and dealt with many frightening problems of their generation such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This description by Howard Zinn really paints a picture of the turmoil that was occurring in the US during the depression. The depression caused people to be afraid of the future because of all the uncertainty that came with it. This was especially true for Joe Rantz. Joe came from an extremely poor family and had been hit hard by the depression. He knew that if he wanted to rise above the depression and the sad life he lived, he would have to make the cut for the University of Washington crew team. Joe knew all too well that failing at this rowing business would mean, at best, returning to a small, bleak town on the Olympic Peninsula with nothing ahead of him but the prospect of living alone in a cold, empty, half‐built house (Brown 13). It was this that motivated Joe and it was this that pushed him to succeed. The Great Depression sparked the fear of an uncertain future into Joe, which is demonstrated by Brown in the quote, Whether you were a banker or a baker, a homemaker or homeless, it was with you night and day‐‐‐a terrible, unrelenting uncertainty about the future, a feeling that the ground could drop out from under you for good at ... • 38. Not That F Word. Not That F Word It is not uncommon to sometimes hear or see what here in America is considered to be a strange or different name and decide to make fun of it or the holder of that name. This is a major obstacle that an Iranian immigrant named Firoozeh Dumas, author of The F Word had to face. She illustrates a picture using words about the hardships that her name has brought upon her during her entire life. Throughout her essay, she uses real life examples, humor, and a conversational tone to show her audience the poverty she faced when transitioning from the Iranian culture to the American culture. In her essay, Dumas conjoined her style with how she builds ethos in the reader s eyes. This creates a very attractive way to convey the argument, however it still lacks certain strengths. Had she written in a slightly more formal tone and included more evidence, she could have still used humor and continued to build ethos by appealing to a more professional group. The use of an easy going and conversational style in the essay helps to illustrate the claim in a way that most readers can recognize. Her essay is aimed at Middle Americans or other immigrants living in the country who face the same issue as her. Having a name that is uncommon and hard to pronounce, can be a challenge for the peers of those with the names. The claim is not being made toward the easy to pronounce Bill s, Susan s, and Richard s. The claim is also not aimed at professionals or people of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The decision was made to attend a service at Our Lady of Grace Church which is located on South Chapman Street and off of West Market Street in Greensboro that was built in 1952. As you enter the church, the first thing noticed is how large the church is on the inside as well as the outside. Beautiful tall cathedral ceilings with archways, after archways, after archways, and a beautiful altar. The first thing you do is dip your fingers in the bowl containing holy water and cross yourself. According to websites, this is to remember your baptism. If you have not been baptized you do not dip your fingers in the water. After dipping into the holy water, you bless yourself by saying In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit while doing the motion of a cross on the forehead, lower chest, left shoulder, then right shoulder. Walking to the pew, there are some people who bow, there are some people, who bend their knees, and there are some people who actually go all the way down to the ground. The reason for the bow is to bow to the altar, genuflect to the tabernacle. Genuflecting is when the right knee touches the floor and the tabernacle is where the Body of Christ is kept. Once at the seats, the entrance song begins. This signals the start of Mass. This Sunday it was Praise My Soul, The King of Heaven, and Hymn. As this song is being sung, the priest and servers walk slowly to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ringling Brothers Circus s Treatment Of Elephants Is Cruel Ringling Brothers Circus s Treatment of Elephants Is Cruel Deborah Nelson is a journalist on the faculty of the University of Maryland. She is the author of The War Behind Me: Vietnam Veterans Confront the Truth About U.S. War Crimes. It was a drizzly winter day, and inside the Jacksonville Coliseum, Kenny, a three year old Asian elephant, was supposed to perform his usual adorable tricks in The Greatest Show on Earth: identifying the first letter of the alphabet by kicking a beach ball marked with an A, twirling in a tight circle, perching daintily atop a tub, and, at the end of his act, waving farewell to the audience with a handkerchief grasped in his trunk. Frustrated by the agency s inaction, advocates turned to the federal courts. This shift in strategy has not yet produced a judgment against Feld Entertainment, but it has unearthed an extraordinary trove of records that its lawyers and government regulators had taken great pains to ensure the public would never see; in one notable instance, documents came to light only after a judge threatened to put Feld executives in jail. They include dozens of videos and thousands of pages of investigation files, veterinary records, circus train logs, and courtroom testimony. Feld Entertainment is a privately held corporation owned by Kenny s namesake, CEO Kenneth Feld, whose family bought Ringling for more than $8 million in 1967 and folded it into an entertainment empire that includes Ringling s three year round touring circus troupes, as well as Disney On Ice, Disney Live, and Monster Jam.
