The Progression Of Women Through The 20th Century Essay
The Progression of Women through the 20th Century March 24, 2014 HIS204 There has been so much
history and so many changes to our country over the last 100 years. I will focus on the changes that
women have fought for and helped in making positive changes in our country. If one compares a
woman in 1900 with her counterpart in 2000, the gains have been significant. There were the obvious
changes, such as the right to vote and other governmental policies supporting women in the 1960s and
1970s. The results were women successfully engaging in certain jobs for the first time. Where women
were once a minority, or excluded entirely, by 1980, they accounted for more than half of all
undergraduate students , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between 1900 and 1920, women started taking jobs outside the home. It started with teaching,
nursing, and social work but soon women began taking clerical jobs if they were native born white
women with an education. Thus leading to Rosie the Riveter , which we will discuss later. American
Feminists, in the early 20th century included a segment of working class women, participating
alongside better known middle class and elite adherents of feminist ideas , (Greenwald, 1989). During
World War II, many people moved in to new jobs for the war effort. This included women by the
millions. Rosie the Riveter was a national symbol of women taking jobs in the industrial field while
the men were away fighting the war. She was fictional, but represented the ideal government worker,
including being loyal, efficient, and patriotic , (Bowles, 2011). Another area in which women made
changes was with their appearance. Women used their attire and style to show an independence, a
certain freedom in which they alone had control. Starting with the Gibson Girl , women dressed in
long, slim dresses, freeing themselves of the poufy petticoats of yore. Women started wearing shorter
dresses and shorter hairstyles, leading to Flapper Jane . Women started wearing less clothing, shorter
dresses, cutting off their hair, and just being more sensual than normal , (Bliven, 1925). Along with
taking control of their wardrobe and style, women also

Criminalization Vs Criminalization
1. Criminalization is a process where people outside of the dominant social norms is labeled as a
criminal, and is influenced by racism, sexism, and nationalism ideologies. In criminalization, laws are
made to make certain bodies and acts criminal, and is a multi step practice in which media
representation helps shape popular views of criminal behavior and criminals. Examples are laws
forbidding homosexuality and minimum sentencing for possession of drugs. A person can be
criminalized for same sex loving because it falls out of dominant heteronormativity, even though it
doesn t feel like a criminal act. The prison industrial complex is based on privatized prisons in which
companies profit from transporting, feeding, and housing prisoners, ... Show more content on

Politics and culture dictates what the dominant social norms are in terms of who you have intimate
relationships with and what behaviors are appropriate . These political and cultural influences hold
implications in the workplace. For example, if heteronormative values are predominant in the
workplace, a person who identifies as homosexual or has same sex inclinations may be more discreet
in engaging in their sexuality in order to fit in the culture and not prevented from moving to higher
positions.
3. Globalization is the process of integrating culture and economy among people, businesses, and
governments of different nations. It is facilitated by media, international financing institutions, trade
agreements, and national immigration policy. In terms of flows of products, companies can expand
globally through the international free market in order to exploit cheap labor in the production of
goods. The national market may be dominated by companies that expands their business overseas,
such as Walmart who imports products from more than 200,000 suppliers internationally. This can
produce inequalities on different levels. For one, there is a wealth disparity for corporations in the
Western world who are benefitting more than the people producing the goods, and typically the cheap
labor is found in countries that have unstable economies and therefore can be exploited. In addition,
local businesses face inequalities as they are outcompeted by companies in the global

Cardiologist Career Paper
There are numerous occupations to enter into. Committing to a career will affect the rest of a person s
life. It is best to choose a career that one is confident in and enjoys. Healthcare provides many
different branches of opportunity. There are general studies and specialized studies to be a doctor,
surgeon, nurse, etc. Being a cardiovascular surgeon is a tough occupation to go into, yet the
satisfaction of saving lives makes it the finest job of all. Not every life can be saved, but it takes hard
work, dedication, and compassion to at least try to save as many people as possible. Specialization in
the prevention and treatment of heart disease is called cardiology (Field, Shelly 10). The journey taken

Active listening, thinking, and speaking are skills that help the doctor to discern the problems that the
patient is undergoing (Occupation Profile 1). The cardiologist needs to be able to be competent in
complex problem solving and comprehension because information about patients symptoms are
relayed to the doctor by an assistant. Reasoning, dexterity, near vision, and sensitivity are all examples
of some of the abilities that are beneficial to cardiologists (Occupation 3). Many patients are fearful of
the future (Field 11). It is crucial that cardiologists are compassionate and caring people that are able
to communicate well with others. Some patients survive, but some do not. Cardiologists are intrusted
with the responsibility to tell the family members that a patient has died, which is a truly arduous job.
Emotional stability and stamina are necessary when working long hours (Field 11). There is a
possibility that one would have to work a full eight hours or longer. One could also be called on at any
time for a variety of emergencies (Field 11). Cardiologists have many duties throughout the day at the
hospital. They have to examine patients, obtain medical orders, order, perform, and interpret
diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and conduct treatment procedures (Encyclopedia 589).

Alternative Energy Sources And The Future Of Those Sources
Bhargava Velagaleti Ms. Stoner English 150 28 September 2015 Alternate Energy Sources and the
Future of those sources Some of the major on going controversies in this decade are Keystone XL
pipeline , fracking and climate change. These issues are co related to each other and they all have one
thing in common i.e energy from fossil fuels . Proponents for the Keystone XL pipeline fracking argue
that it would reduce the energy dependence on foreign oil. Although they are good for the energy
security of the US, it may be a step backwards in terms of controlling climate change and looking for
alternatives. Our energy use has dramatically improved our lives , but this energy is derived mostly

Nuclear energy seemed to start a much touted Renaissance in the US, but the feasibility of fracking
and Fukushima disaster have stopped it. Nuclear energy has huge potential to meet our energy needs
with minimal risks and no carbon emissions. There is need for developing better reactors and using
fuel sources like Thorium which is safer and more abundant than Uranium. Some of the advantages of
Thorium are it is easy to control a reaction ,produces waste products that are less radioactive and it is
difficult to convert this waster into a weapon and generate more energy per ton (Katusa ,1) . The non
feasibility of converting Thorium to a nuclear weapon has prevented it from becoming a major fuel
source (Katusa, 1) . The other major problem for developing Thorium reactors are fabricating the fuel
economically and lack of investment in the development of Thorium based reactors (Katusa ,1) .

Carbohydrate Loading to Enhance an Athlete s Performance
In order to reach their peak performance, many endurance athletes experiment with altering their diet
before a long race. This is because diet is particularly important for athletes who must sustain
moderate to high energy levels for long periods of time (Walker et al, 2000). In recent years, this is
where the idea of carbohydrate loading has come into play. My question deals with the effectiveness
of carbohydrate loading on the day before a competition. I want to know if carbohydrate loading loads
on the success of the individual s performance. Carbohydrates are seen as our body s primary source
of quick energy. However, they provide another significant function to the individual. When ingested
they can transform into glycogen that is later stored in the muscles and liver (Mayo Clinic, 2006). This
glycogen in the muscles is the body s fuel for training and competing and starts to deplete as you
exercise at a high intensity (Heaner, 2004). Without exercise, the glycogen levels of muscles remain
high. Then, as the athlete trains, these levels are used as fuel and become depleted. The resulting very
low glycogen levels within an athlete are the primary source of physical exhaustion (Peterson, 1996).
In order to prevent this muscle fatigue, athletes and their nutritionist have resorted to relying on
fueling up on more carbohydrates prior to an event (Kersick al, 2008). Some side effects to this
carbohydrate rich diet include upset stomach, diarrhea, and constipation

The Assumptions Of Ability Grouping, Student Tracking And...
Abstract
This paper will dive into four common unwarranted assumptions made from ability grouping (student
tracking) and attempt to debunk the ideas. Ability grouping is the common educational practice of
separating students based on actual or purported ability in the same grade into different instructional
groups with differing levels of aptitude or achievement (Ainsworth 2013). The four assumptions that
will follow were researched by the former presidential professor in equity in the graduate school of
education and information studies at UCLA, Jeannie Oakes. Ability grouping or student tracking is in
fact illegal in the state of California but, institutions still find alternative ways to implement the
method.
Keywords: Ability Grouping, Students Tracking
Debunking the False Assumptions of Ability Grouping The four ability grouping assumptions are as
follow: (1) Students learn better when they are grouped with other students who have similar
academic skills or prior levels of achievement, (2) slower students develop more positive attitudes
about themselves and their education when they are not in daily classroom contact with those who are
brighter, (3) track placements are part of a meritocratic system with assignments earned by students
and accorded through fair and accurate means, and (4) teaching is easier when students are grouped
homogeneously, and teaching is better when there are no slower students to lower the common
denominator in the classroom

Archaeological Ceramics Paper
Archaeological ceramics is the most prolific relics that have been studied to expand our understanding
of past cultures. Archaeological study based on the investigation of pottery shape, color, decoration
style and materials that can give a plenty of information regarding typological and invaluable
information, dating and provenance. The study of the mineralogical properties of ceramics plays a
vital role to understand the previous technologies. However, the manufacturing techniques, cleaning
of the clays, adding of the temper, and shaping of objects, firing atmosphere can significantly change
the mineralogical composition of the ceramic objects. In addition to this, the life cycle of ceramics and
its usage and post depositional modifications are also important and can help to change the

The role of analytical methods is mostly pertinent with qualitative and quantitative characteristics of
the artifacts that suitably explained, produce specific information on the source of raw materials and

methods are belongs to the investigation of the manufacturing techniques including the usages of raw
materials, clay preparation, the firing technique, and pre/post firing treatment of the ceramics.
Therefore, technological studies also deal with the provenance and dating. Mineralogical and physio

Alfred Mosher Butts
If you ve ever played Scrabble®, you know that it s a fun and engaging game. What you may not
know is that it has a fascinating and unusual history. The game s inventor, Alfred Mosher Butts, was
an architect who lived during the Great Depression. An ardent fan of word games, he decided to
design a new type of word game, one that involved both skill and chance. Using printed letters, glue,
and small squares of plywood, he created the game at his kitchen table. At first, he called it Lexiko,
then Criss Cross Words. He sold sets that he made himself for $1.50. By 1935, though, the game hadn

The Consequences Of Corporal Punishment In Public Schools
Disciplining a child can become a tedious task for parents and tutors. As a result, they believe that
punishment is the most optimal way to eliminate a misbehavior. Paddling, spanking, and hitting are a
small group of the harsh disciplinary practices used by adults. Such practices of physical punishment
are currently allowed in public schools in the United States. Many people argue that a reasonable
physical punishment on the children leads them to understand the consequences of misbehaving.
However, the word reasonable is an ambiguous term utilized to diminish the meaning of such type of
violence. Corporal punishment can be a momentarily disciplinary practice, which in the long term,
severely, impacts the children. Researchers have said that children exposed to more corporal
punishment tend to suffer certain psychological disturbances. Generally, they are more likely to
develop mental health problems, low self esteem, and antisocial behavior. Such issues make them
become vulnerable and depressive leading them in the long term to drugs or alcohol abuse. Once the
children reach their adulthood, they become extremely aggressive and the parent child relationship
gets substantially damaged. In the United states a large number of people believe that such
disciplinary practice is no longer present in our public schools system. According to a letter recently
written by John B. King Jr., U.S. Secretary of Education, twenty two states still allow corporal
punishment in school:

Regional United Mission Statement
Regional United FC is a comprehensive soccer club based in Dooradoyle, Limerick. It was founded in
1974 by 2 men named Seamus Ryan Lorcan Harney. The idea for the soccer club came about as these
2 men saw a growing need for a soccer club in an ever expanding urban area. The only other club
serving the region was Mungret Regional FC which had been founded 3 years previously in 1971.The
club is run entirely through volunteers. Regional United grew very steadily since its founding and
developed as one of the biggest and most successful clubs in Limerick. The club has approximately
370 playing members; 300 of these are male and 70 are female. The male teams range from under 7s

Tropa De Elite Sociology
It is therefore possible to define BOPE as being in a state of exception and every resident of the
favelas as a homo sacer because they are stripped of their social and political value. Moreover, the
characters are also used in order to express, how fear negatively influences society and forces some
people to radically change their character. Tropa de Elite (2007) starts off with a very important quote
by Stanley Milgram: A psicologia social desde século nos ensinou uma importante lição: usualmente
não é o caráter de uma pessoa que determina como ela age, mas sim a situação na quai ela se encontra
(Tropa de Elite, 2007). In other words, the environment plays a key role in influencing people s
behaviour. In Padilha s film, proof of this statement is offered through André Matias. At the beginning
of the movie, he is seen attempting to be an honest and incorruptible police officer. However, after
having spent a few months with BOPE, his character is quick to change. According to Heise, his
exposure to the chaos and violence of Rio de Janeiro triggered a dehumanization process and this is
especially portrayed through André s abuse of power during his classmates march against violence
(2012, p.125) and when he shoots Baiano in the face. These actions ... Show more content on

the elite neighbourhoods and the favelas. The fast pace of filming, the use of energetic rap music

The Substantially Likely Factor
The government has failed to demonstrate that the forced medication of Mr. Whitman against his will,
is substantially likely to render him competent to stand trial. To protect the liberty interests of
defendants who are initially too ill to stand trial, the Supreme Court implemented the four pronged
Sell Test. Per the holding of Sell, in order to physically subdue and forcibly medicate a sick defendant
who has not consented to treatment, the government must demonstrate by presenting clear and
convincing evidence, that such treatment is substantially likely to make the sick defendant well
enough to stand trial. See Sell v. United States, 539 U.S. 166, 180, 123 S. Ct.(2003). The government

The court held that the expert medical witness testimony regarding the Herbel Study, his own
experiences as a physician, and the medical record of the defendant did not provide enough evidence
to justify the forced medication of the defendant even though all three concerned patients with
delusional disorders. Watson, 793 F.3d at 428. The court found that the fourteen year old Herbel study
was inherently flawed due to its design and did not justify the forced medication of the defendant
because the information provided about its subjects was neither similar enough nor specific enough to
the situation of the defendant at hand. Id. at 426. Similarly, the court faulted the government s reliance
on the personal experiences of the witness because the information provided regarding his patients
was not specific enough to the defendant s situation. In particular, the testimony did not indicate that
the previously treated patients had delusions that were meaningfully similar in nature and persistence
to those of the defendants. The medical record of the defendant was also inadequate because although
it reported that he had previously been given the, it only indicated that he had been treated and

Richard Wright s Autobiography Of A Black Boy In The US
A autobiography called Black Boy, by Richard Wright was written seventy five years ago. In his
autobiography, he tackled some of the issues that are currently still happening in the United States. As
a child, when Wright went to school and worked at different jobs, he d seen a much of the racial
discrimination, violence and unemployment along with other forms of racial inequality. Although
racial discrimination, stereotyping and unemployment have decreased in the United States, it is still an
active problem that people of color face. If Wright was alive in 2018, writing a novel about a black
boy in United States, he would write about the racial discrimination, stereotyping and unemployment
the black boy would have to go through. As a kid, he went through the same things and would
understand their frustrations that the black boy has to face in the United States.

Week 8 Case Study JetBlue Man Hon Chan 22002960 Introduction An initial public offering (IPO)
refers to the initial stage of shares offering to the public market for subscriptions by a company to
raise capital for the purpose of expansion. It is considered as a big issue for companies as an IPO does
not necessary guarantee the success of a company as it is merely a tool of raising capital while its
costs of issuance and consecutive monitoring costs (due to diluted shareholdings of the company by
public investors) are relatively higher than the cost of issuing corporate debt. Yet IPO is still a popular
tool for infant firms due to the fact it creates strategic market exposure. JetBlue was attempting to

In FCFE approach, the required rate of return by shareholders is required and can be calculated using
the CAPM model, which the information showed that the risk free rate (derived from yield from
treasury notes) and the estimated market risk premium are 5%, the beta implemented in the CAPM
model cannot be directly obtained since JetBlue has never been listed before hence a medium has to
be used which the Southwest beta of 1.6 is chosen given the characteristics and nature of the two
companies are similar hence is expected to be affected by similar systematic risk. The calculated
required rate of return therefore would be 5%+1.6(5%)=14%. In contrast, in the FCFF approach, a
weighted cost of capital (WACC) is required to use, which can be determined as the percentage of
debt to equity multiply by the cost of debt plus one minus the percentage of debt to equity multiply by
the cost of capital, or the required rate of return. The percentage of debt to equity is derived from the
balance sheet of JetBlue as 99%. The cost of debt can only be indirectly obtained from the current
debt structure of Southwest Airlines, the 7.375 debenture (with yield to maturity of 8.68%) is chosen
given it is a long term debt and to remain conservative. It is assumed that the long term debt of JetBlue
worth of $300m is separately obtained from three different sources. Thus the WACC is calculated as

common knowledge that the prices people have to pay for accommodation in hotels vary enormously.
Furthermore, hotel revenue managers probably posses or more or less accurate intuition of what
causes room rates to diverge. However, they do not know how Online Travel Agent sites select the
leading hotels to be placed on their first search page. In this respect, some determinants are expected
to be associated with hotel prices in a more or less linear way. To say it differently, price differences
between hotels underscore the presence or not of some variables expected to influence the latter. It is

I do agree with Sullivan that Society Is Dead because in my generation, people do not care to meet
new people. For example, the other morning I tried to say good morning to a girl, who was on her
phone, but she rolled her eyes at me and went back to scrolling on her phone. Honestly, I was
disappointed that she could not say good morning back to me. Like Sullivan says, these iPod people
are too wrapped up in their own world that talking to others is like a sin. People make it such a big

they scroll through their phone just to pass the time. It is so hard to make friends these days and this is
exactly why. I have moved around a lot and I have

Hence, the weighted average dollars spent on concessions is $8.55. Another constrain is Buckingham
must receive a no less than 39% profit margin from the concessions operation. Next, the identification
of total concessions revenue is to use the actual number of people will attend a certain match, also take
the example of the price segment $8, 5,550 audience will actual go, times the weighted average
concessions expenditure ($8.555), and multiples the 39% profit margin, so the revenue from
concessions is $92,591 for the price level $10.
The last stage is to sum the revenue from ticket sales and concessions ($321,469), which is the total
revenue if you set the 5 game ticket at $8. In Exhibit 4, the bat chart directly demonstrates the
different revenue based on different price segment. The optimal price for 5 game ticket should be set
at $8, which could bring the largest revenue compared with other price segments.
The same logic could also be applied to other ticket types. So, again, our bleacher seat price scheme is

5 game Ticket: $8 per game (package ticker price $40)
20 game Ticket: $6 per game (package ticker price $120)

Giving Back To Community Analysis
I believe that giving back to the community is an essential act that one must do in their life. I moved to
Hawaii at a young age from a third world country to a small town. I lived in Waimea for about 7 years.
I went to Waimea Elementary School and Waimea Middle School. The amount of time that the

Descriptive Essay Football
That morning I had a really good feeling about today. That morning was a dry, and so humid you
wouldn t believe it. The sun was shining bright and the clouds were gleaming with excitement. It was
Thursday. My team called it Championship Thursday because we were fighting to win a national title
in Myrtle Beach. As I arrived at the field for our first game which was the first game of bracket play.
Yesterday was pool play. We played 6 pool play games and won them all so that put us in the number
one seed. That s mean we had a pretty easy game ahead of us. As the day continued we one 2 more.
We had a little break after the third game. Next game was what we were all dreaming of, the national
championship game. It was time. I was nervous, out of my mind nervous. Everyone was, especially
our coaches. When we stepped on the field I had a good feeling that we were gonna step off the field
as national champions. After we got everything set up in our dugout we went to warm up. As we were
hitting in the batting cages teams were coming up to us and saying how amazing we were and how
bad they wanted us to win this game. This made us even more pumped to win. After we got back from
the batting cages it was so packed with people and there were many softball and baseball teams there
to watch the game. We had to take grounders and pop flies. Which we were doing really good. As I
was warming up our number one pitcher I was watching the other team and wow did they look good.
After, my team

Lab Report On Catalase Reactivity
INTRODUCTION In this experiment, we are trying to figure out how different concentrations of
substrate affect an enzyme reactivity. We are using hydrogen peroxide as the substrate and yeast as the
enzyme. Based on my background knowledge, I hypothesize that if more hydrogen peroxide is added,
then the seconds between a paper disk floating to the top would be lower than a lesser amount of
hydrogen peroxide solution. I thought that the more peroxide solution there was, than the more the
enzyme could react. An enzyme is a type of catalyst that speeds up a reaction. In this lab we are using
the enzyme called catalase. Catalase is used to break down H2O2. (hydrogen peroxide).
METHODS
The materials you will need are forceps, a pencil, yeast solution, hydrogen peroxide, filter paper disks,
six 250 ml beakers, distilled water, paper towels, and graph paper. These concentrations below will be
put into each beaker. Be sure to label each beaker.
Then you will put a solution of activated yeast in a beaker. Use the forceps to dip the paper disk into
the beaker, which contains the catalase enzyme. Next, use the forceps to transfer the paper disk into
the bottom of the beakers with hydrogen peroxide. You will then measure how long it takes for the
bubbles to carry the disk to the top of the beaker. Measure the amount of seconds it takes for the paper
disk to float to the top in the data table. Repeat the steps until you have at least 3 trials for each
hydrogen peroxide solution.

The City Of Gods By Matthew Lee
Matthew Lees How many of the Bronx dreams? is different from James McBride s The city of Gods

hopelessness that the people feel, proving that many of

My Father As A Father
This move thrusts me into a whirlwind of uncertainty; my dad was my hero and now, I do not know
what to think. I knew of my father as a giving man. He dedicated so much of his time and resources to
help those less fortunate and unfortunately, it was at the peril of his family. I do not make excuses for
my father, just like my mother stepped up her responsibility as a parent, he should have shared with
her in lieu of leaving her to struggle with a young daughter. For quite some time I had trust issues with
men because of my father s behavior . . . it was difficult to fathom that they will not leave the
relationship. Being older, I am better able to manage my emotions than I used to, however, it took
decades to reach a place where I stopped selling myself short just to have a relationship and I would
say to any woman or young teenager, love yourself more. Keep picking yourself up when life throws
hard curves; there is nothing wrong with starting over if, and when you have to, just know you are
worth the fight.
As a mom, myself, I know how overwhelming having children can be, especially if parents have to
work far away, or long hours, perhaps are actively involved in social issues and serve in political
environments it is tough. And I am certain having this little bundle of joy compounded many
uncertainties for my parents; how to manage the new demands of parenthood and to be a functional
family. My little dream was a FOREVER family! After Daddy left, I

The Positives of Single Parenting What comes into your mind when you hear about single parenting?
Americans attitudes towards single [parenting] were so negative by negative I mean, nearly seven out
of ten said that single [parents] raising a child without the benefit of a partner was bad for society
(Huntington Post). Many assumptions are made towards single parents looking down on them not
knowing all that they go through. They just have that stereotypical mind that single parents are bad
parents. Thoughts like single parents may abandon their kids, and do not care about them. Single
parent may not know how to raise children on their own. What people do not know or think about is ...

Which normally causes the parents to split and have the child be under the guidance of one parent..
Although these parents become single parents, they still have the help from the other parent when they
are visiting their child.
Many single parents just never married. They wouldn t want to get involved into a long commitment
with their partner. Although some may know their child s father they are still considered single parents
for raising the child as a single parent. Even as young as 15 years old parents, can be found as single
parents. These parents were way too young and choose to not married the child s father, choose to
bring a child into the world where they would take care of them on their own.
Lastly and not an uncommon way of being a single parent is being a widow. Mothers could died while
giving birth, leaving the father to raise the child on their own. Fathers or mother could have a serious
illness that keeps them from being in a child s life as they grown up. As sad as it may be some child
grow up without a father or mother because they died before they could remember any memories of
them. The other parent is held responsible to take care and raise the child on their own the best they
can.
Single parenting is not an uncommon situation. There are many statistics taken to record the number
of single parenting. According to U.S. census Bureau there are 12 million single parent

Paget s Disease
Osteitis deformans or as we all know it as Paget s disease, was first described in the year 1876 by an
English surgeon named Sir James Paget. This disease results in enlarged or deformed bones due to
excessive breakdown and formation of bone tissue (Reumatología Clínica). Since there is a
disturbance in the bone remodeling stage, the bones may look enlarged but it is brittle, softer, and
weaker which leads to fractures and deformities (MedicineNet). This disease is a chronic bone
disorder, which means that it is long term and cannot be prevented or cured by medications. Also, this
disease is mostly asymptomatic meaning it does not produce or show any symptoms, which is quite
terrifying. It is mostly detected when patients get an x ray for something else. This is most commonly

Another treatment is calcitonin as a nasal spray or injection, which is involved in bone metabolism.
Another treatment is bisphosphonates, which help control bone remodeling and resorption.
Bisphosphonates were founded in the year 1970 and is now the preferred treatment because of its
better efficacy and safety profile compared to the use of calcitonin (Mayo Clinic). Researchers say that
Paget s disease occurs in three different phases. The first phase is called the lytic stage. During this
phase, the rate of bone turnover is increased as to twenty times the normal rate. The second stage is
called the mixed phase. In this phase, the osteoblasts increase because it is trying to keep up with the
bone resorption by making new bone. As these two phases (osteoclasts and osteoblasts) repeat, a high
degree of bone turnover happens. The final phase of Paget s disease is called the sclerotic phase.
During this stage, the bone formations over rule the bone resorption causing the bone to look
abnormally larger and deformed. Even though the bone appears to look larger, the bone is weaker
because the way of laying down the bone is in a disorganized pattern making it less dense

Intelligence And Weapons Of Mass Destruction Programs
Introduction and Purpose Statement
Intelligence has proved to be essential to military actions since antiquity, particularly concerning
invasions from a nation s military. Invading Iraq due to the determination of the continued Weapon of
Mass Destruction programs in 2003 resulted, in part from intelligence received by human intelligence
sources. The specific cause that led to the initial determination to invade was the belief that Iraq
maintained a Weapon of Mass Destruction program at the same time also suggesting that Saddam had
links to Terror groups. Additionally, the Iraqi Weapon of Mass Destruction Programs during the 1998
inspection from the United Nations led to the assessment of the weapon systems in Iraqi.
Consequently, the Iraq war had resulted in thousands dead along including an unstable nation.
Inquiries post invasion revealed critical flaws within the intelligence collected. Much of the
information provided to the Central Intelligence Agency along with the National Security Council
from human intelligence proved to be incorrect. Furthermore, the incorrect information had
compounded the issue with a limited network of assets in Iraq to verify the intelligence received. One
of the most important intelligence failures of the 21st Century is seen in the invasion of Iraq. How can
the review of intelligence collections conducted on pre war Iraq Weapons of Mass Destruction
programs better determine the faults in intelligence received from human intelligence sources,

Individual productivity calculator can be devised to reward those who work more in order to keep the
parity issues from creeping in and at the same time providing growth and recognition to the employees
as mentioned in the Herzberg two factor model (Newstrom, 2015). This model can be interpreted as a
pioneering technique to motivate the team.
When the employees sweat out to reach the production targets, they give their best and the mind set or
the attitude of the employees towards the organization changes. The management should set up
monthly workshops to interact with their employees, thus making the employees feel that the
management is well within their reach and is ready to listen to their pleas. Organizing such workshops
will stimulate the feedback process which will help the management to cut down on production and
sales costs in turn maximising the returns (Arnolds amp; Boshoff, 2002). Organizing technical trips
and field tours further improves the management employee relationship as this allows the two parties
to work together in a different environment and gain better ideas. The concepts of the ERG (existence,
relatedness, growth) Model can be applied by recognizing individual employees who attain the highest
productivity and then rewarding them with various benefits such as growth. Growth is what

Narrative Essay On The Eiffel Tower
I woke up thinking about the contest again, but I pushed it aside and got ready to go touring again and
today we were going to the Eiffel Tower. We headed out at 10:00am and drove there in a cab, we
arrived and the view from our room was no match to the real deal, it was outstanding and a lot bigger
than I imaged too. We got in line for tickets and it didn t take to long, so we found our tour guide, so
that she could take us up in it, I was nervous and excited at the same time because I don t like heights,
but I do love scenery. We went up in an elevator to the first floor or the first platform and let me tell
you,it was as beautiful as a thousand roses, literally, there was thousands of roses everywhere, it was
magnificent. After a while we got back on the elevator to go to the top and on the way up the tour
guide told us that it is about 108 floor tall, twice the size of the one is Vegas. The elevator stopped and
we stepped out. The breeze was perfect and so was the weather, we walked out to a telescope and
plopped in a quarter. All I could say was wow, my mom and dad were almost speechless too. Once we
got up there I realized i wasn t afraid anymore, hopefully the contest was going to be the same way, I
took it all in, along with a thousand photos my mom took of us and everything else. We kept looking
at everything, it was like nothing I ve ever experienced before, it was perfect and so delicate, words
were not enough to explain it. The city was busy and all the cars and people looked like ants, the park
around us was perfect, the grass, the trees everything seemed so perfect around us, at least until it
started to pour rain. We ran into the elevator and luckily there was enough room for all of us because
there were people who didn t get in and i was sure they were drenched by now. After some time we
got to the bottom and ran to our cab as fast as cheetahs, but it didn t matter, we were drenched as well.
We got in our cab and drove to our hotel to change and dry off. We wandered the hotel after we
changed, to look at all the paintings and statues. It stopped raining after a little while and we decided

required there be a Committee of States where a representative from each state occupied a seat. The
Articles of the Confederation left the power to the states to levy taxes, and regulate commerce. It did
accomplish what it was intended to do as far as placing limits on government authority, giving

Evaluation Essay On Shrek
Recently, I gave my S.H.I.E.L.D Speech for my Oral Com class, and there were many things I did to
prepare. First, I had to decide what my idea was going to be. I picked Shrek as my shield because he is
awesome and I could tie him into my life without it being too much of a stretch. After I had chosen my
topic, I devised a design for my shield. The final shield design was a giant Shrek face with smaller
faces of the characters Donkey and the Big Bad Wolf to go alongside Shrek. Then, I began writing my
outline. I chose my main points (weirdness, friends, and theatre) because they related to Shrek. Once I
had completed my outline, I practiced with it several times twice in class and twice outside of class. It
was during my practice outside of class that I realized that I did not have enough information to give a
speech that would last over four minutes just from my outline. In response to this, I typed exactly what
I was going to say, word for word, and attempted to memorize it, but that didn t go as planned. ...

Analysis of Women in the Book of Judges Essay
When interpreting the Hebrew Bible from a feminist perspective, many are quick to decry the
subjugation of women at the hands of men and the lack of female representation in dominant roles in
biblical literature. However, although some women are objectified or possibly marginalized, this claim
of inequality does not always hold true. Especially in the book of Judges, women are not discarded as
characters and are not wholly unappreciated. In fact, the book of Judges features many strong female
characters who serve in significant roles, and who are effectively portrayed as leaders, heroes, and
capable, resourceful individuals. An excellent example of an influential woman in Judges is Deborah.
From the beginning, Deborah is identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is even Deborah herself who gives the call to charge against Sisera s army, while Barak and his
soldiers comply. In Judges 5, commonly referred to as the Song of Deborah , praises are sung in honor
of this female military leader, who acts as a mother in Israel. Some scholars have even noted parallels
drawn between Deborah and the Canaanite war goddess, Anat (Ackerman 177).
Additionally, Deborah is respected as a religious figure. For example, Barak refuses to go to war
without Deborah by his side. According to Jo Ann Hackett, Barak s refusal to fight without the
presence of Deborah is not indicative of his ineptitude or of her military prowess. Rather, Hackett
proposes that Barak requests Deborah s participation because, as a prophetess and as a leader chosen
by the Lord, her presence indicates divine support (Hackett 357). If Deborah were visible to the
Israelite soldiers, morale would be lifted with the thought that the Lord would deliver the enemy into
their hands. This shows that Deborah is thought to represent the will of God.
Rabbi Steinsaltz notes that the phenomenon of prophetesses in the history of nations is usually
relegated to women who are outside the circle of life (e.g. hermitesses, or virgins dedicated to this
specific role) (Shapira 28). Deborah, however, is an exception. Although she is a prophetess, she is
also relevant in society, and fulfills multiple roles. She successfully leads the charge

The Message in Spike Lee s Movie Do the Right Thing
In an attempt to enlighten audiences with a powerful message about the cancer that hate and violence

powerful story with creative film making, Lee gives us an insider s look at life on a blistering summer
day in Brooklyn.
To create an atmosphere that both looks and almost literally feels like possibly the hottest day of the

This is accomplished with different camera angles as well as the movement of the camera. For
example, in many scenes as the camera follows the action it is shaky rather than sturdy, as if you as a
viewer are walking around and seeing the action through your own eyes. One may also notice that an
escalated level of action or conversation on the screen is mirrored by the pace of the film from frame
to frame. In essence, a heated argument would involve a quick paced transition of shots, going from a
close up of one character to another at a rapid pace in tune with the argument.
At the beginning of the film, we are introduced to a wide variety of characters. Mayor, an older
gentleman with a drinking problem, portrays neutrality in the film that is in sharp contrast to the
racism and discrimination that is harbored in most of the cast. Throughout the story, Lee has a way of
making this hatred between characters seem ridiculous to the point where it becomes humorous.
Perhaps as a way to make the audience look at hate as a joke, and to see it that way in their own lives.
However, slowly we begin to see that the hate towards others is stemming from frustrations within
their own lives, and is taken out on others in increasingly more harmful ways. In the end, we see this
escalating hate lead to violence and in turn to destruction for everybody.

Omelas Moral Dilemma
Omelas Moral Dilemma In The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas Ursula LeGuin is raising the
moral dilemma of justice vs. happiness. The happiness of the citizens in Omelas depends on the
suffering of a child locked in a closet. She briefly describes the contrast between the child s situation
and the citizens position, portraying a moral dilemma, which is when you have to choose to do one of
two equally unpleasant things. LeGuin portrays an ideal life boats in the harbor sparkled with flags,

Men and women walk the streets, and weep at the fact of the child in the cellar. The child in the cellar
is the existence of why the Omelas treat their children gentle but yet full of compassion and joyful
love for happiness. The tearless rage, treatment, freedom, and acceptance of the Omelas to the child
have long ever to be free and fearful. Therefore, happiness seems to be at the expense of justice. The
folks were not simple folk, though they were happy (1312). They would not use the word cheer
anymore because they weren t cheerful (1312), but yet all smiles would become archaic (1312). They
didn t have slaves or swords nor did they use their people as barbarians (1312). Yet their society, rules,
and laws were especially less complex, but the people of Omelas were not less complex than us
(1312). The trouble was encouraged by sophisticates considering happiness rather than being stupid
(1312). Their children were happy, mature and intelligent; perhaps happiness is based on what is
neither necessary nor destructive. Omelas strikes some as all smiles and good people. The people of
the Omelas have guilt, and the joy they have is built on successful slaughter. What swells the hearts of
Omelas is the boundless, generous and magnanimous triumph in souls of all men and against some

Personification of the inhabitants in nature is done in order to prompt changes on people s opinion on

Since preforming as Odette/Odile, Legnani has become the standard that every dancer to come after
has been judged against. Nearly every ballerina dreams of taking the stage as Odette/Odile because of
the tremendous amount of talent and artistry required. That aspiration contributes to the prestige of the
piece causing Swan Lake to become the famous masterpiece we know today. The premier of the
newly renovated Swan Lake on January 15, 1895 is considered a historical date in ballet (Korobkov)
and the score marks a turning point not just in [Tchaikovsky s] own creative development but the
evolution of ballet music as a musical genre (Francis). This is the first time a Russian ballet illustrated
the shift between different cultural eras and artistic styles. Prior to Swan Lake, ballet was thought of as

Fed by four major rivers and a handful of smaller ones with headwaters in the Sierra Nevada, the lake

prices. Eggs were being sold for a dollar. A slice of bread was another dollar, two dollars if you
wanted it buttered. Today, adjusted for inflation, that one dollar egg would cost $30.30 (An Eccentric
Culinary History). A skilled mason back then would have earned about $1.75 for a day of hard labor.
How does this connect to the reason why Tulare Lake is now dry? Well back then, the Tulare Basin

Glycemic Index
The glycemic index is a good measure of how carbohydrate containing food affects a person s blood
glucose levels. In was originally introduced in 1981. The general rule for Glycemic index is that low
glycemic index food was digested and absorbed slowly and high glycemic index food are rapidly
digested and absorbed. These two factors result in different glycemic responses from the body (Sun, O
Reilly, Li, and Wong, 2013, p. 1001). It is because of these reactions that many people have become
interested in seeing how the different glycemic index of food will help athletes during exercise. One of
the main ways people use the glycemic index for exercise is in their pre exercise food (Sun, O Reilly,
Li, and Wong, 2013, p. 1001). Using the glycemic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When doing this, they must result in their endurance to get them through the exercise. While, yes,
there are sports that do not necessary need a lot of endurance for, but in training most sports last long
enough that you do need some endurance. It is still beneficial to allow you to have some form of
energy to be able to use while exercising. If someone wants to be a good athlete their ability to sustain
prolonged submaximal exercise is primarily determined by fuel availability (Wong, Siu, Lok, Chen,
Morris, Lam, 2008, p. 23). The need to allow your body to be able to perform at its greatest level all
comes down to how you fuel it. When fuels with foods of a low glycemic index, it is able to store the
energy and slowly use it throughout the workout instead of being wasted in the first five minutes. It
has been shown time and time again that the offer modest post prandial insulinaemic and glycaemic
responses over high GI foods when consumed before prolonged submaximal exercise (Wong, Siu,
Lok, Chen, Morris, Lam, 2008, p. 23). This is exactly why when athletes are trying to plan what to eat
right before they are about to workout they should look for foods that have a low glycemic index. By
doing this, they are setting themselves up for having high energy for their workout and being able to
have energy that energy last longer during their

A Dark Skinned, African America Woman As Well
This new concept lead me to think about being a dark skinned African America woman as well. Early
in life I made the discovery of how a creamy colored women seemed to have gotten more praises in
life more than a darker toned woman. I never wanted to technically wanted to be lighter but if I am
really honest with myself than, than I would have born lighter for pragmatic reasons too. When I look
in the mirror, I am very happy with the way I look but society does judge one on the one of their skin
in many cultures and even in many other races. Likewise, with Angela, Phipps article helped me to see
Angela in a different light. I still agree that had Angela would have simply embraced her African

Tomlinson does have a good point because since she had moved to Harlem, she felt as if she had an
advantage over people because of her unknown lineage and the fact that she can pass for a white
woman. But she still admired the beauty of Harlem as she always had positive and encouraging things
to say about the class of colored people in Harlem. Angela had never seen such rich culture in Harlem
in contrast to what she had seen and/or experienced in Philadelphia. Her initial observation of Harlem
was that Not all of these people, she realized, glancing keenly at the throngs of black and brown,
yellow and white faces about her were servants or underlings or end men (96). She saw a different
culture of black people in Harlem that didn t shame her as a black woman. This theory does help prove
that Tomlinson does have good point when she said that Fauset strategically placed her main character
in a socially heterogeneous background which allows Angela to see race through a new lens. Some
critics have said that Fauset could have done a better job utilizing the beauty and essence of the
Harlem Renaissance Era to have which disagrees with Tomlinson s theory about Fauset s underline
moral of the story. Critics have expressed that Fauset was only using Angela as a platform to
memorialize her own lot in life. There was an article

Persuasive Speech On Social Justice
When you walk down the street in a big city like Los Angeles or San Francisco, I think you would
immediately spot a crowd of triggered protesters shouting He s not my president! waving signs like
No one is illegal and you are welcome here . Piercings and dyed hair bedeck their heads and sensory
orifices. Dressed in showy, heterodox clothes, their appearance screams Notice me and what I want
from the USA ! I know, don t get me wrong , what they re fighting for is completely justifiable. After
all, they are probably scared of getting deported or harassed in the streets due to their religious faith.
Personally, I think that the aforementioned Social Justice Warriors are taking things a bit too far and
using mostly their primal emotions instead of facts. Earlier in my life I wouldn t have cared; but
recently I have discovered something called Alternative right, or Alt right for short. One of the values
that they have is the importance of facts over feelings. This value is very important to me since I try to
analyze what happens both in fiction and real life. Today I m going to show you how this has
influenced me both politically and in everyday life. The Alt Right has impacted me in my everyday
life. One study by CNN s Eric Metaxas has shown that Generation Z ( I.e. today s teenagers), is the
most conservative generation since the GI s that fought during World War II. Eric goes on to say that
Millennials were raised in a time of roaring prosperity, when video cassettes were a bigger influence
than digital technology, and many came of age before the age of radical Islamic terror . Gen Z kids by
contrast, have never known life without the Internet and have grown up surrounded by access to the
world s harsh realities on their smartphones. ( The Next Generation of Americans...) This is significant
in my life because I am a teenager; the next generation of people who ll have children in the future. To
hear that I am a conservative rather than a liberal, which most people expect youngsters to politically
lean to not only shocks me, but succeeds to amaze me. It shatters stereotypes about youth which I and
many others have grown up with. Youngsters valuing American tradition and dealing with harsh
realities (

Greek Theater And Its Impact On The City State Of Athens
When considering ancient Greek life, theater was massively important. This is apparent by the Theater
of Dionysius placement in the city state of Athens, with its close proximity to the Acropolis and the
Parthenon. The Acropolis by definition meant the high point of the city state, and was on a plateau. Its
raised status highlights its importance, thus radiating that importance onto nearby structures as well.
Although the Greeks valued rational and reason, they also valued their emotional side as well. All
plays were dedicated to the god of emotion Dionysius. Much of what we know of the comedic aspects
of Hellenic Greek theater productions comes from the plays of the playwright Aristophanes.

Compared to the way Athenian women were presented in Lysistrata, Aristophanes sticks to the now
known facts of their lifestyle fairly closely. In the play s opening, Lysistrata, our female protagonist,
calls women from not only her home of Athens, but as we all the Spartan enemy and other places to
meet in and is upset at their untimely arrival. Her neighbor Calonice appears and reassures her they
will come eventually, but they are simply delayed due to having to care for their husbands, household,
and children. In contrast, Spartan women were educated, participated in sports, and had little to do
with the upbringing of their children. In fact, they only had contact with their husbands for sexual
relation purposes. When the women finally arrive, Lysistrata inquires how many of their husbands are
gone away to war. Some of the women reply their husbands have been gone for months. Lampito, a
beautiful Spartan girl, expresses she is unhappy because her husband comes home and no sooner grabs
his shield and chargers off again. Though according to our textbook, Spartan women were free to
remarry if her husband was gone away to war for too long. Thus begins the flaws in Lysistrata s plan
of how the women will force the men to claim peace. On the home front, war had a massive effect on
the women and children left behind by

Groopman s Essay On Immunotherapy
Groopman s essay is a collection of case studies and anecdotes assembled to provide a chronology on
immunotherapy as a potentially viable treatment for cancer. One of the prevalent notions that arises
from his work is centered on the impact of pharmaceutical desires with regards to medical research.
Often in the essay the directions or methods of research are coerced to change towards the end of
pleasing large pharmaceutical companies or other sources of capital. By enabling a cycle of monetary
allocations dictating scientific research and not the other way around, as it objectively should be the
potential of less conventional or longer term research cannot hope to be realized, as the research is
stunted in its infancy if it does not look auspicious in the short term for financial returns. The same
backwards process can be found in statistics based fields, as companies ... Show more content on

Similarly to the development of theories of consciousness detailed in Miller s essay, time was needed
in the case of immunotherapy between periods of discovery for the available technology to be able to
support new discoveries and techniques. Coley first began his work with immunotherapy in 1891,
Nixon declared cancer would be cured within a decade in 1971, and Hammer made Nixon s old and
unfulfilled promise his new goal in 1988. However, the actual technology to make immunotherapy
potentially viable did not exist during any of those periods. It was not until recently that the techniques
thought essential to making the practice work were deemed to be in existence as, in 2011, Cheever
said, All of the components needed for effective immunotherapy have been invented, (Groopman,
111). Thus, regardless of the quality of ideas and research surrounding immunotherapy, until quite
recently it was not possible to execute those ideas in a manner conducive to effective treatments or

Some examples include the following: clavicle, coccyx, femur, fibula, foramen magnum, mandible,
maxilla, metatarsals, ossify, phalanges, radius, scapula, sternum, suture, tibia, ulna, and vertebra. All
of these terms are associated with the skeletal system. The mandible, maxilla, and foramen magnum
are located in the cervical vertebrae. The clavicle, scapula, and sternum are located in the thoracic
vertebrae. The lumbar vertebra contains the humerus, ulna, and radius. The coccyx is located in the
sacral vertebrae. The femur, fibula, metatarsals, phalanges, and tibia are located in the appendicular
skeleton. The sutures are located in the skull. The vertebrae is the backbone of the body. Ossification
is the formation of bone. These terms are important in knowing and learning the skeletal system.
There were many concepts and stories that I had never been introduced to before I read Death s Acre .
There are several more jobs and much more time that goes into identifying unknown bodies than what
is projected on television. Dr. Bill Bass does a wonderful job of explaining forensic science in a way
that is intriguing and attention grabbing. This book is one that I would recommend to people with

persecuted Jews by burning down their synagogues, destroying their business, and stripping their

German people made Jews life a living hell and things became harder and harder on the Jews causing

  • 2. The Progression Of Women Through The 20th Century Essay The Progression of Women through the 20th Century March 24, 2014 HIS204 There has been so much history and so many changes to our country over the last 100 years. I will focus on the changes that women have fought for and helped in making positive changes in our country. If one compares a woman in 1900 with her counterpart in 2000, the gains have been significant. There were the obvious changes, such as the right to vote and other governmental policies supporting women in the 1960s and 1970s. The results were women successfully engaging in certain jobs for the first time. Where women were once a minority, or excluded entirely, by 1980, they accounted for more than half of all undergraduate students , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Between 1900 and 1920, women started taking jobs outside the home. It started with teaching, nursing, and social work but soon women began taking clerical jobs if they were native born white women with an education. Thus leading to Rosie the Riveter , which we will discuss later. American Feminists, in the early 20th century included a segment of working class women, participating alongside better known middle class and elite adherents of feminist ideas , (Greenwald, 1989). During World War II, many people moved in to new jobs for the war effort. This included women by the millions. Rosie the Riveter was a national symbol of women taking jobs in the industrial field while the men were away fighting the war. She was fictional, but represented the ideal government worker, including being loyal, efficient, and patriotic , (Bowles, 2011). Another area in which women made changes was with their appearance. Women used their attire and style to show an independence, a certain freedom in which they alone had control. Starting with the Gibson Girl , women dressed in long, slim dresses, freeing themselves of the poufy petticoats of yore. Women started wearing shorter dresses and shorter hairstyles, leading to Flapper Jane . Women started wearing less clothing, shorter dresses, cutting off their hair, and just being more sensual than normal , (Bliven, 1925). In criminalization, laws are made to make certain bodies and acts criminal, and is a multi step practice in which media representation helps shape popular views of criminal behavior and criminals. Examples are laws forbidding homosexuality and minimum sentencing for possession of drugs. Globalization is the process of integrating culture and economy among people, businesses, and governments of different nations. It is facilitated by media, international financing institutions, trade agreements, and national immigration policy. In terms of flows of products, companies can expand globally through the international free market in order to exploit cheap labor in the production of goods. The national market may be dominated by companies that expands their business overseas, such as Walmart who imports products from more than 200,000 suppliers internationally. This can produce inequalities on different levels. For one, there is a wealth disparity for corporations in the Western world who are benefitting more than the people producing the goods, and typically the cheap labor is found in countries that have unstable economies and therefore can be exploited. Proponents for the Keystone XL pipeline fracking argue that it would reduce the energy dependence on foreign oil. • 8. Carbohydrate Loading to Enhance an Athlete s Performance In order to reach their peak performance, many endurance athletes experiment with altering their diet before a long race. This is because diet is particularly important for athletes who must sustain moderate to high energy levels for long periods of time (Walker et al, 2000). In recent years, this is where the idea of carbohydrate loading has come into play. My question deals with the effectiveness of carbohydrate loading on the day before a competition. I want to know if carbohydrate loading loads on the success of the individual s performance. Carbohydrates are seen as our body s primary source of quick energy. However, they provide another significant function to the individual. When ingested they can transform into glycogen that is later stored in the muscles and liver (Mayo Clinic, 2006). This glycogen in the muscles is the body s fuel for training and competing and starts to deplete as you exercise at a high intensity (Heaner, 2004). Without exercise, the glycogen levels of muscles remain high. Then, as the athlete trains, these levels are used as fuel and become depleted. The resulting very low glycogen levels within an athlete are the primary source of physical exhaustion (Peterson, 1996). In order to prevent this muscle fatigue, athletes and their nutritionist have resorted to relying on fueling up on more carbohydrates prior to an event (Kersick al, 2008). Some side effects to this carbohydrate rich diet include upset stomach, diarrhea, and constipation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Assumptions Of Ability Grouping, Student Tracking And... Abstract This paper will dive into four common unwarranted assumptions made from ability grouping (student tracking) and attempt to debunk the ideas. Ability grouping is the common educational practice of separating students based on actual or purported ability in the same grade into different instructional groups with differing levels of aptitude or achievement (Ainsworth 2013). The four assumptions that will follow were researched by the former presidential professor in equity in the graduate school of education and information studies at UCLA, Jeannie Oakes. Ability grouping or student tracking is in fact illegal in the state of California but, institutions still find alternative ways to implement the method. Keywords: Ability Grouping, Students Tracking Debunking the False Assumptions of Ability Grouping The four ability grouping assumptions are as follow: (1) Students learn better when they are grouped with other students who have similar academic skills or prior levels of achievement, (2) slower students develop more positive attitudes about themselves and their education when they are not in daily classroom contact with those who are brighter, (3) track placements are part of a meritocratic system with assignments earned by students and accorded through fair and accurate means, and (4) teaching is easier when students are grouped homogeneously, and teaching is better when there are no slower students to lower the common denominator in the classroom ... • 12. The Consequences Of Corporal Punishment In Public Schools Disciplining a child can become a tedious task for parents and tutors. As a result, they believe that punishment is the most optimal way to eliminate a misbehavior. Paddling, spanking, and hitting are a small group of the harsh disciplinary practices used by adults. Such practices of physical punishment are currently allowed in public schools in the United States. Many people argue that a reasonable physical punishment on the children leads them to understand the consequences of misbehaving. However, the word reasonable is an ambiguous term utilized to diminish the meaning of such type of violence. Corporal punishment can be a momentarily disciplinary practice, which in the long term, severely, impacts the children. Researchers have said that children exposed to more corporal punishment tend to suffer certain psychological disturbances. Generally, they are more likely to develop mental health problems, low self esteem, and antisocial behavior. Such issues make them become vulnerable and depressive leading them in the long term to drugs or alcohol abuse. Once the children reach their adulthood, they become extremely aggressive and the parent child relationship gets substantially damaged. In the United states a large number of people believe that such disciplinary practice is no longer present in our public schools system. According to a letter recently written by John B. King Jr., U.S. Secretary of Education, twenty two states still allow corporal punishment in school: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tropa De Elite Sociology It is therefore possible to define BOPE as being in a state of exception and every resident of the favelas as a homo sacer because they are stripped of their social and political value. Moreover, the characters are also used in order to express, how fear negatively influences society and forces some people to radically change their character. Tropa de Elite (2007) starts off with a very important quote by Stanley Milgram: A psicologia social desde século nos ensinou uma importante lição: usualmente não é o caráter de uma pessoa que determina como ela age, mas sim a situação na quai ela se encontra (Tropa de Elite, 2007). In other words, the environment plays a key role in influencing people s behaviour. In Padilha s film, proof of this statement is offered through André Matias. At the beginning of the movie, he is seen attempting to be an honest and incorruptible police officer. However, after having spent a few months with BOPE, his character is quick to change. According to Heise, his exposure to the chaos and violence of Rio de Janeiro triggered a dehumanization process and this is especially portrayed through André s abuse of power during his classmates march against violence (2012, p.125) and when he shoots Baiano in the face. Per the holding of Sell, in order to physically subdue and forcibly medicate a sick defendant who has not consented to treatment, the government must demonstrate by presenting clear and convincing evidence, that such treatment is substantially likely to make the sick defendant well enough to stand trial. Cash Flow and Growth Rate Week 8 Case Study JetBlue Man Hon Chan 22002960 Introduction An initial public offering (IPO) refers to the initial stage of shares offering to the public market for subscriptions by a company to raise capital for the purpose of expansion. It is considered as a big issue for companies as an IPO does not necessary guarantee the success of a company as it is merely a tool of raising capital while its costs of issuance and consecutive monitoring costs (due to diluted shareholdings of the company by public investors) are relatively higher than the cost of issuing corporate debt. Yet IPO is still a popular tool for infant firms due to the fact it creates strategic market exposure. JetBlue was attempting to issue an IPO in 2002 after ... In FCFE approach, the required rate of return by shareholders is required and can be calculated using the CAPM model, which the information showed that the risk free rate (derived from yield from treasury notes) and the estimated market risk premium are 5%, the beta implemented in the CAPM model cannot be directly obtained since JetBlue has never been listed before hence a medium has to be used which the Southwest beta of 1.6 is chosen given the characteristics and nature of the two companies are similar hence is expected to be affected by similar systematic risk. The calculated required rate of return therefore would be 5%+1.6(5%)=14%. In contrast, in the FCFF approach, a weighted cost of capital (WACC) is required to use, which can be determined as the percentage of debt to equity multiply by the cost of debt plus one minus the percentage of debt to equity multiply by the cost of capital, or the required rate of return. The percentage of debt to equity is derived from the balance sheet of JetBlue as 99%. The cost of debt can only be indirectly obtained from the current debt structure of Southwest Airlines, the 7.375 debenture (with yield to maturity of 8.68%) is chosen given it is a long term debt and to remain conservative. It is assumed that the long term debt of JetBlue worth of $300m is separately obtained from three different sources. Thus the WACC is calculated as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

INTRODUCTION AND SUMMARY OF RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS It is common knowledge that the prices people have to pay for accommodation in hotels vary enormously. Furthermore, hotel revenue managers probably posses or more or less accurate intuition of what causes room rates to diverge. However, they do not know how Online Travel Agent sites select the leading hotels to be placed on their first search page. In this respect, some determinants are expected to be associated with hotel prices in a more or less linear way. To say it differently, price differences between hotels underscore the presence or not of some variables expected to influence the latter. For example, the other morning I tried to say good morning to a girl, who was on her phone, but she rolled her eyes at me and went back to scrolling on her phone. Honestly, I was disappointed that she could not say good morning back to me. Like Sullivan says, these iPod people are too wrapped up in their own world that talking to others is like a sin. People make it such a big deal when it comes to being social with someone. Instead of talking to someone new at the bus stop, they scroll through their phone just to pass the time. Next, the identification of total concessions revenue is to use the actual number of people will attend a certain match, also take the example of the price segment $8, 5,550 audience will actual go, times the weighted average concessions expenditure ($8.555), and multiples the 39% profit margin, so the revenue from concessions is $92,591 for the price level $10. The last stage is to sum the revenue from ticket sales and concessions ($321,469), which is the total revenue if you set the 5 game ticket at $8. • 24. Lab Report On Catalase Reactivity INTRODUCTION In this experiment, we are trying to figure out how different concentrations of substrate affect an enzyme reactivity. We are using hydrogen peroxide as the substrate and yeast as the enzyme. Based on my background knowledge, I hypothesize that if more hydrogen peroxide is added, then the seconds between a paper disk floating to the top would be lower than a lesser amount of hydrogen peroxide solution. I thought that the more peroxide solution there was, than the more the enzyme could react. An enzyme is a type of catalyst that speeds up a reaction. In this lab we are using the enzyme called catalase. Catalase is used to break down H2O2. (hydrogen peroxide). METHODS The materials you will need are forceps, a pencil, yeast solution, hydrogen peroxide, filter paper disks, six 250 ml beakers, distilled water, paper towels, and graph paper. These concentrations below will be put into each beaker. Be sure to label each beaker. Then you will put a solution of activated yeast in a beaker. Use the forceps to dip the paper disk into the beaker, which contains the catalase enzyme. Next, use the forceps to transfer the paper disk into the bottom of the beakers with hydrogen peroxide. You will then measure how long it takes for the bubbles to carry the disk to the top of the beaker. Measure the amount of seconds it takes for the paper disk to float to the top in the data table. Repeat the steps until you have at least 3 trials for each hydrogen peroxide solution. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since there is a disturbance in the bone remodeling stage, the bones may look enlarged but it is brittle, softer, and weaker which leads to fractures and deformities (MedicineNet). This disease is a chronic bone disorder, which means that it is long term and cannot be prevented or cured by medications. Another treatment is bisphosphonates, which help control bone remodeling and resorption. Bisphosphonates were founded in the year 1970 and is now the preferred treatment because of its better efficacy and safety profile compared to the use of calcitonin (Mayo Clinic). Researchers say that Paget s disease occurs in three different phases. The first phase is called the lytic stage. During this phase, the rate of bone turnover is increased as to twenty times the normal rate. The second stage is called the mixed phase. In this phase, the osteoblasts increase because it is trying to keep up with the bone resorption by making new bone. As these two phases (osteoclasts and osteoblasts) repeat, a high degree of bone turnover happens. The final phase of Paget s disease is called the sclerotic phase. Even though the bone appears to look larger, the bone is weaker because the way of laying down the bone is in a disorganized pattern making it less dense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Intelligence And Weapons Of Mass Destruction Programs Introduction and Purpose Statement Intelligence has proved to be essential to military actions since antiquity, particularly concerning invasions from a nation s military. Invading Iraq due to the determination of the continued Weapon of Mass Destruction programs in 2003 resulted, in part from intelligence received by human intelligence sources. The specific cause that led to the initial determination to invade was the belief that Iraq maintained a Weapon of Mass Destruction program at the same time also suggesting that Saddam had links to Terror groups. Additionally, the Iraqi Weapon of Mass Destruction Programs during the 1998 inspection from the United Nations led to the assessment of the weapon systems in Iraqi. Consequently, the Iraq war had resulted in thousands dead along including an unstable nation. Inquiries post invasion revealed critical flaws within the intelligence collected. Much of the information provided to the Central Intelligence Agency along with the National Security Council from human intelligence proved to be incorrect. Furthermore, the incorrect information had compounded the issue with a limited network of assets in Iraq to verify the intelligence received. However, although some women are objectified or possibly marginalized, this claim of inequality does not always hold true. Especially in the book of Judges, women are not discarded as characters and are not wholly unappreciated. It is even Deborah herself who gives the call to charge against Sisera s army, while Barak and his soldiers comply. In Judges 5, commonly referred to as the Song of Deborah , praises are sung in honor of this female military leader, who acts as a mother in Israel. Some scholars have even noted parallels drawn between Deborah and the Canaanite war goddess, Anat (Ackerman 177). Additionally, Deborah is respected as a religious figure. For example, Barak refuses to go to war without Deborah by his side. According to Jo Ann Hackett, Barak s refusal to fight without the presence of Deborah is not indicative of his ineptitude or of her military prowess. Rather, Hackett proposes that Barak requests Deborah s participation because, as a prophetess and as a leader chosen by the Lord, her presence indicates divine support (Hackett 357). If Deborah were visible to the Israelite soldiers, morale would be lifted with the thought that the Lord would deliver the enemy into their hands. This shows that Deborah is thought to represent the will of God. Rabbi Steinsaltz notes that the phenomenon of prophetesses in the history of nations is usually relegated to women who are outside the circle of life (e.g. hermitesses, or virgins dedicated to this specific role) (Shapira 28). • 38. ##ction And Juxtaposition In Living Like Weasels And... idea in a particular way? Anne Dillard uses diction and juxtaposition in both Living like Weasels and Sojourner to establishes her distaste towards the actions and cognition of the human race. Personification of the inhabitants in nature is done in order to prompt changes on people s opinion on the universally accepted biotic hierarchy. Humans believe themselves to be the most advanced creature on earth and rebuff any teaching by the natives. Dillard portrays her disagreement with such notion by using story telling techniques to enchant and then preach the lessons she herself learns from nature. In Living like Weasels Dillard tells a tale of an eagle who [gutted a] living weasel with his talons [and bended] his beak [to clean] the beautiful airborne bones (66). The cruel but alluring diction is done to illustrate Dillard s fascination with the weasel s willingness to cease from existence because of their commitment to its choices and lifestyle. The weasel does not accept its gruesome fate to be a meal to the eagle without attempting to turn the tables. It is completely unsurprising to hear how only 6 percent of the population follows the routes they desire (Haltiwanger, 1). Most of humanity crumbles under obstacles and instead attempts to embark on easier tasks. Dillard herself is guilty of such an act and she reveals her mistake when she says I missed my chance . What Is The Significance Of The Swan Lake Essay Jenni Hanson Professor Course 12 September 2017 Assignment The audience watches in awe as the swan battles with herself, fighting death, with such elegance and poise as she flaps her wings and bourées, quick and tiny steps en pointe, across stage so quick and light that it feels as though she is gliding. The ballerina s birdlike movements paired with Tchaikovsky s masterpiece in Swan Lake is easily one of the most famous ballets created but was it always that way? In fact, when first performed Swan Lake was unsuccessful and called uninspiring and unoriginal (Thought.co). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since preforming as Odette/Odile, Legnani has become the standard that every dancer to come after has been judged against. Nearly every ballerina dreams of taking the stage as Odette/Odile because of the tremendous amount of talent and artistry required. That aspiration contributes to the prestige of the piece causing Swan Lake to become the famous masterpiece we know today. The premier of the newly renovated Swan Lake on January 15, 1895 is considered a historical date in ballet (Korobkov) and the score marks a turning point not just in [Tchaikovsky s] own creative development but the evolution of ballet music as a musical genre (Francis). This is the first time a Russian ballet illustrated the shift between different cultural eras and artistic styles. Prior to Swan Lake, ballet was thought of as irrelevant in a revolutionary society that is Russia. After the revolution in 1917, Russian government wanted to sweep the slate clean of everything that went back to the aristocracy ...ballet got a pass in the end because Vladimir Lenin understood the potential it had to transmit information to the largely illiterate Russian masses (Schonbek). Art had to present a positive view of communism and its future causing the ballet to be slowly tweaked to align with socialist realist principles. Now known as the phantom lake, the Tulare Lake is a perfect example of one of all environmental casualties that have occured because of mining and farming. This once incredibly rich in wildlife lake is located in the San Joaquin Valley. West of the Mississippi, the Tulare Lake was once so big it could stretch over 690 square miles across the Central Valley. Fed by four major rivers and a handful of smaller ones with headwaters in the Sierra Nevada, the lake was once 60 miles from tip to tip and 36 miles wide in the center. Thousands of Yokut Indians and other tribes lived in this rich environment (The Tribune). For many centuries, these Native Americans lived peacefully along its great shores and abundant waters full of fish and waterfowl (San Francisco Bay Area Independent Media Center). The real question here however is why these dams were installed. Well you see, it all goes back to the Gold Rush. Most accounts of the environmental damage caused by the Gold Rush focus on the direct effects of mining. During the gold rush, many farmers saw the open opportunity to take advantage of miners that had traveled from across the world. They increased the value of their food to outrageous prices. Eggs were being sold for a dollar. A slice of bread was another dollar, two dollars if you wanted it buttered. Today, adjusted for inflation, that one dollar egg would cost $30.30 (An Eccentric Culinary History). A skilled mason back then would have earned about $1.75 for a day of hard labor. Persuasive Speech On Social Justice When you walk down the street in a big city like Los Angeles or San Francisco, I think you would immediately spot a crowd of triggered protesters shouting He s not my president! waving signs like No one is illegal and you are welcome here . Piercings and dyed hair bedeck their heads and sensory orifices. Dressed in showy, heterodox clothes, their appearance screams Notice me and what I want from the USA ! I know, don t get me wrong , what they re fighting for is completely justifiable. After all, they are probably scared of getting deported or harassed in the streets due to their religious faith. Personally, I think that the aforementioned Social Justice Warriors are taking things a bit too far and using mostly their primal emotions instead of facts. Earlier in my life I wouldn t have cared; but recently I have discovered something called Alternative right, or Alt right for short. One of the values that they have is the importance of facts over feelings. This value is very important to me since I try to analyze what happens both in fiction and real life. Today I m going to show you how this has influenced me both politically and in everyday life. The Alt Right has impacted me in my everyday life. One study by CNN s Eric Metaxas has shown that Generation Z ( I.e. today s teenagers), is the most conservative generation since the GI s that fought during World War II. Eric goes on to say that Millennials were raised in a time of roaring prosperity, when video cassettes were a bigger influence than digital technology, and many came of age before the age of radical Islamic terror . Gen Z kids by contrast, have never known life without the Internet and have grown up surrounded by access to the world s harsh realities on their smartphones. ( The Next Generation of Americans...) This is significant in my life because I am a teenager; the next generation of people who ll have children in the future. Often in the essay the directions or methods of research are coerced to change towards the end of pleasing large pharmaceutical companies or other sources of capital. By enabling a cycle of monetary allocations dictating scientific research and not the other way around, as it objectively should be the potential of less conventional or longer term research cannot hope to be realized, as the research is stunted in its infancy if it does not look auspicious in the short term for financial returns.
