Difference Between Mental Health Act 2007 And 2007
Mental Health Act 1983 and 2007, for somebody to be treated as mental illness or mental disorder the
Mental Health Act must also be involved. The Mental Health Act was started in the 1983 and was then

Richard Sheirer Building 7
According to Richard Sheirer, the NYC Commissioner of Emergency Management, they were given
orders to evacuate building 7 before it collapsed. He says that he does not remember exactly when the
order came or who gave it because it had been hard to keep track of the time with everything
happening. And from this moment on, and based on the comment that Sheirer gave, people came out
with two frames that they use to interpret this event. The first one is the frame that building 7 was
actually burning because it was close by to the collapsing twin towers and something might ve
happened to sit the building on fire for more than 5 hours which caused the building to collapse. The
other point of view, or frame, is that the collapse of building 7 was a conspiracy from the government
of USA. People in favor with the second frame argue that USA had a setting predetermined agenda for
destroying building 7, which bears the City s Command office.
When anyone searches about Building 7 of the World Trade Center in Google, heshe will be shocked.

Factual Political Knowledge
Hard news and soft news are said to be the extreme ends of standards in news value. The former
includes coverages of serious topics which are timely in orientation, while the latter is applied to
matters of human interests, entertainment, sports, and similar subjects. In response to declining news
readership, the fine lines between these two differing formats are being obscured as the more serious
hard news would employ entertaining styles and the less serious soft news would inform in a
traditional manner. Considering this blur, should it be of matter if one would prefer a specific format
in reference to their features, i.e., to choose either from news that is relying on information or
entertainment? Seeking legitimate and accurate information would not be the term for choosing either

In his article, Any Good News in Soft News? Markus Prior pointed out that people who prefer soft
news formats are significantly less knowledgeable than those who prefer hard news. This implies that
a rise in factual political knowledge, as well as a long term retention of that knowledge is improbable
with the preference for soft news. Matthew Baum, in his commentary Soft News and Political
Knowledge would later argue that Prior s findings of the absence of a measurable increase in factual
political knowledge is an overly restrictive definition of learning and that it rather demonstrates the
absence of long term retention of factual knowledge. Baum further presented evidences which speaks
of an enhanced attainment of factual knowledge, at least in high profile issues and scandals from
coverage of soft news. For instance, the use of episodic frames in soft news media influences the
attention and judgments of people as they can vividly recall on past known information. Another case
is the extraction of emotional charges from soft news reportage which makes people remember the
way they feel about an issue, say, an election or social

Pathos In The Other Face
Black holes are very huge formations in the space that have a tremendous tendency for absorbing
everything in the surrounding, and so our personalities are. We are born as void memory children who
couldn t differentiate between right and wrong. However, we were also programmed in a certain
manner that tells us what we are supposed to be, or exhibit. Socialization is a main clue which is
regarded as a programming utility for our personalities. Therefore, Salma Shalash, in The Other Face,
had a desire in shedding the light over the effect of personality programming, socialization, on
relationships, with respect to gender considerations. Shalash conducted her message by writing a short
temporary Egyptian story of a couple, being about to marry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Pathos was used explicitly by grabbing the emotions and feeling of the audience by the unexpected
spontaneous reaction of the fiancée ( Ethos, Pathos, and Logos ), showing her real mask, when she
noticed that her relationship and marriage are subjected to danger. Ethos is achieved by relying on a
divorced axial character, a friend of hers. The former dependence paves the audience mind for the fact
that marriage, at that environment, ceases being a divorce when problems, related to misperceiving
personalities, arise among couples. The author also accounted for the left brain audience who are
mainly interested in one to one events; consequently, Logos , as a persuasion mode, was used as a
transition between Shalash s knowing that her relationship with Fouad would be adversely affected
and her spontaneous reaction, based on her character, of the unexpected visit. To sum up, The Other
Face, by Salma Shallash, managed to conduct the message, triggered by the author s exigency, through
a theoretical writing model integrating both persuasion and original writing style. Salma Shallash, in
her story, assures the common Egyptian motto: Everything is with disagreement, except for marriage .
She also emphasizes that actions can be evaluated in different ways according to the one s perspective
in perceiving them. Therefore, a key to success and relax is the multi dimensional, or versatile,

Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest and Anthony...
When African slaves were sold to Americans, they lost their fundamental rights as human beings.
However, their inferiority was further cemented when slaves eventually conformed to their white
owners. In slavery s infancy, almost all slaves resisted against their oppressors in one form or another
but had limited to no success. These failed resistances eventually led to hopelessness for the slaves as
they even began to consider slavery as an accepted practice. Many slaves developed a notion of
performing their forced labour more willingly and in turn their owners decreased the beatings and
cruelty towards them ( Slavery in the United States. ) For instance, slaves who displayed respect
towards their owners were assigned to perform less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An important difference between the books, however, lies in the regimes method of oppression.
Ms.Ratched s reign is rooted in stability because she commands her ward with an iron fist and does
not allow any opportunity for an uprising. To compare, in Alex s society, there is a lack of regulations
enforced by the corrupt government s hired police, which cause the citizens to question the validity of
their administration.
Both Nurse Ratched and the totalitarian government in A Clockwork Orange utilize technology, in the
form inhibiting the brain from functioning on free will, to preserve their own power. To begin, Nurse
Ratched, in One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, employs electroshock therapy on those who challenge
her authority over the hospital. When Randle McMurphy confesses his weakness towards the nurse s
electroshock therapy, Chief relates this struggle to his father s battle with alcohol: My father was real
big. Every time he put the bottle to his mouth, he don t suck out of it, it sucks out of him ... I m not
saying they killed him. They just worked on him, the way they re working on you. (Kesey 189) In

drinking, patients of shock therapy only appear jolly

The project is designed to minimize penalty for industrial units by using automatic power factor
correction unit with the help of zig bee. Power factor is defined as the ratio of real power to apparent
power. This definition is often mathematically represented as KW/KVA, where the numerator is the
active (real) power and the denominator is the (active + reactive) or apparent power. Reactive power is
the non working power generated by the magnetic and inductive loads, to generate magnetic flux. The
increase in reactive power increases the apparent power, so the power factor also decreases. Having

Analysis Of Fasting Feasting By Anita Desai
In the passage from Fasting, Feasting by Anita Desai, Arun, a foreign exchange student from India,
much to his disdain, joins the mother and daughter of his host family, Melanie and Mrs. Patton, on a
day to the beach. The complicated and warped experience that Arun faces on the day trip is
characterized by the literary tools used by Anita Desai, such as diction, syntax, and rich descriptions.
From the opening paragraph of the passage, Arun s uneager disposition is shown, when he is displayed
trying to avoid of the day s plans. However, the extent of Arun s disapproval of the plans is shown
through words like despondent, to show the dispirited disposition of the boy, and wildly when
describing his formulation of excuses. Furthermore, the relationship between Arun and his host family
is presented in this introductory scene, and their eagerness of getting the boy out of the house is shown
through Desai s choice to describe Melanie s method of getting him involved as staring challengingly.
This emphasizes her determination to get the exchange student out of the house by using a fairly
aggressive term, creating the sense of a showdown for the reader.
Desai continues the description of the standoff with her use of syntax in the next paragraph. The
author avoids using quotation marks during dialogue, as shown when Mrs. Patton says, No, she will
not. Absolutely not. This creates a more intriguing section to read, but also creating a strong sense of
insistence. With the

Essay on The Power and Significance of Congress
The Power and Significance of Congress Firstly it is important to look at the power and significance
of congress as a legislative body. This includes the creation of law, and the scrutiny of the executive.
Because the US federal system is ruled by separation of powers , it is important that the legislative
congress acts as a good check and restraint on the executive the president. The most significant power
that congress has is to create and pass legislation. Most of the creation is down to congressional
committees specialist groups of congressman who revise and investigate laws into their own
committee s interests, for example The House Science Committee. Some of the legislation can ...

This is also a major constraint on presidential power if there are united houses, because the president
would find it hard to pass law, and counter laws that he didn t want. The House has a few exclusive
powers that the Senate does not. The House is the only one of the two that can initiate money bills.
The president himself nor EXOP can do such a thing. This offers the House of Representatives a large
scope of power in financial issues abroad and domestically. Impeachment is also another power
possessed by the House. If a president or a member of the federal government has been acting illegally
or unconstitutionally the House can impeach formally accuse them of it. This is then trialed in the
Senate, but offers the House a lot of power over the president, and helps congress with it s scrutiny of
the executive. The Senate also has a few exclusive powers that are strong in the right circumstances.
The senate confirms appointments by a simple majority to most appointments made by the president.
These include all the president s appointments to the federal judiciary and most of the appointments to
the executive branch. This results in the president needing the senate s consent a lot of the time. The
second significant exclusive power is the power to ratify all treaties negotiated by the president,

Furthermore, the poem discusses the solitude of the speaker in the house and the lack of any additional
human presence and the absence of vivacity in nature; this painting illustrates this notion through trees
devoid of their leaves, the absence of any animal or human and the lack of sunlight as a result of the
dull wintry setting. Morning in the Burned House captures the reader s attention through eloquent
descriptions despite its bleak content. My Street embodies this trait of the poem perfectly; it displays

Lord Of The Glies And John Locke s Lord Of The Flies
Jordan Early Nathan Carpenter PHIL 101.004 4 December 2017 John Locke Lord of the Flies In the
book, Second Treatise of Government , John Locke explains to the readers how a government should
be run and the freedoms that people should have. He also talks about the natural laws that people
should follow. Locke petitions a natural law of morality to govern people before they enter a society.
But in order to conserve themselves, people come together to lay a foundation for a government. Once
that has begun, the people agree on certain fundamental behaviors to follow. According to Locke, this
action breaks down their natural rights as human beings. This follows the movie, Lord of the Flies, as
boys are stranded on a remote island out at sea. The boys start out in Locke s state of nature. Due to
them being all alone, they work together to survive. While beginning their new life as a uniform tribe,
they inevitably come to an unacceptable state of war that gives rise to complete and utter chaos on the
island. John Locke describes the state of nature as a state all men are naturally in, and that is, a state of
perfect freedom to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and persons, as they think fit,
within the bounds of the law of nature, without asking to leave, or depending upon the will of any
other man (§4). The state of nature is a state of equality, where not one person has a sense of power
over other people. It is the time before a society

Earthquakes, They Destroy, Kill, And Demolish
Earthquakes, they destroy, kill, and demolish. Earthquakes have been recorded for a long time.
Records have been and always will continue to be recorded for centuries. Earthquakes are recorded by
instruments called seismographs. The recording that they make is called a seismogram. These drum
sized tubes of decades of earthquakes are more than likely stored in science labs. Earthquakes
however, are the releasing of stored energy from plate tectonics. Plate tectonics is the study of 7
massive pieces of rock called continents. They build up energy from pressurized rock that is pushed
against each other. When it releases it is like ripples in the water but those ripples are about 10 times
the size, plus the waves can go through the earth and hit outer parts of the earth on the other side. Yet,
because of different types of materials, the waves will never pass straight through the earth. The thing
that powers plate tectonics is convection currents.
The crust (the farthest and the outer est layer of the earth and the one we know and love because it is
helping us not to die) and the upper part of the mantle (that is a loll squid of different density and
different types of metals) make up the lithosphere. It also holds up the plate boundarys where Pangaea
split into 7 massive pieces of rock. The three different types of plate boundaries are convergent
boundarys, divergent boundarys, and transform boundarys.
What happens at a convergent boundary is the plates push directly against

TALENT The word talent is derived from the Greek word talanton , which means balance, sum,
weight, was an unit of weight, in gold and silver, which was used as a legal tender in the trading

success and or ability in varied fields of the arts and science. And oddly enough, the basic root of the

Rap Or Hip Hop Is More Than Just Another Music Genre
Rap or Hip Hop is more than just another music genre, it is a movement full of more aspects than one

different aspects and explains the importance of Hip Hop while taking a journey interviewing many

also heavily resonates with the book Rap Music and Street Consciousness. Ice T interviews many

the MC is Grandmaster Caz, Ice T, and Big Daddy Kane. During Grandmaster Caz s interview, he
explains how he started out as an MC, taking his parents old funk and soul records and rapping over
the beats. He believes the most important part of rap is the lyrics, explaining his technique of trying to
go beyond what the next MC is going to do. Throughout the film, Ice T adds in his own commentary
about the MC and being one himself has important points about the role of the MC. Ice T stresses the
MC has a gift of communication and states the MC, Gets everybody s attention with displays of verbal

Educating Students In High Schools
High school is supposed to be four years of learning everything that will be needed to become a
successful adult after graduation. However, it is the opinion of many that high schools are not
educating students on things that will truly help them succeed in adult life. There are many supporting
statements for this argument, many students have to take classes that have nothing to do with what
they plan on majoring in, most students that graduate have no idea how to do their own taxes or
anything like that, and they feel like teachers do not give them enough freedom in the classroom.
Depending on where the high school is at, roughly around 30 credits are needed to graduate school
and most of these credits are earned in classes that students learn things that they will never need
again. If a student wants to me a book publisher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some teachers understand this and give the students trust and allow them to leave the classroom for
things like the restroom and to get a drink. Instilling trust into student will show them more how to be

to do and when to do it that they have so self responsibility, they expect someone else to instruct them
on everything.
This is among many reasons why high schools should broaden their offered classes and the way they
treat their students. This would greatly improve the education levels and the way the students act
themselves. Students would be motivated to attend and do their best in school if they are actually
doing things that will improve their futures. Schools need to broaden what they are offering to their
students and teach them things that they will actually use in their future to better themselves as

There are many theories presented on this debate yet there is limited scientific data confirming any
theory. However all theories lead to a similar conclusion, training is needed in order to see

numerous studies conducted lead to the scientifically proven fact that genetics determines your base
level along with your physical peak. To test this, scientists subjected untrained people to the same
training regime in order to see their improvement levels. From this, it was plain to see that some
candidates saw great improvements whilst others saw little. Through further studies it was evident that
those who were related saw similar results, from this we are able to gather that genetics play a major
part in you athletic improvement. Those who saw significant improvements were deemed as high
responders, whilst those who saw little are low responders. Athletes who compete at international
level and achieve high results have been recognised to be high responders along with completing an

Cause Of Mass Shootings
As most people already know in this year alone two of the biggest mass shootings in the United States
history. The two shootings that are explained are the shooting in Las Vegas, which killed 58 and
wounded 515 and the shooting in Texas which killed 26 and injured 20. You can also look at the
Orlando Florida shooting last year which killed 49 and had 58 wounded (Linnane). Shootings in
America have become more and more frequent, and it seems to some people that nowhere is safe. The
examples given were at a concert, a bar and a church. It seems that no matter where you go there is
now a risk of your life. Just imagine being in the shoes of someone who was in the Vegas attack.
Thinking that they will have a fun time when all of a sudden you see someone next to you drop dead
because someone has started to open fire. Everyone is in a panic trying to get to cover. You witness
people praying that they won t get shot as everyone piles up. How did this occur? Why are these
shootings becoming so common? Why do these horrible situations keep on occurring? Well, due to the
amount of guns in America, the lack of Mental Health Care, and the ease of obtaining a weapon, mass
shootings are increasing with more lives being lost.
It seems that one major reason for the mass shootings is the astronomical number of guns in America.

Social action theories are known as micro theories which take a bottom up approach to studying
society; they look at how individuals within society interact with each other. There are many forms of
social action theories, the main ones being symbolic interactionism, phenomenology and
ethnomethodology. They are all based on the work of Max Weber, a sociologist, who acknowledged
that structural factors can shape our behaviour but individuals do have reasons for their actions. He
used this to explain why people behave in the way in which they do within society. Weber saw four
types of actions which are commonly committed within society; rational, this includes logical plans
which are used to achieve goals, traditional customary behaviour, ... Show more content on

Labelling theory has also been used to apply the interactionist theory to society; the theory, like Mead,
emphasises the importance of symbols and situations in which they are used. The main interactionist
concepts are the definition of the situation if we believe in something then it could affect the way in
which we behave. The looking glass self this was created by Cooley who argues that we see ourselves
in a way in which we think others see us. These concepts have been useful in explaining why people
act in certain ways in certain situations; therefore, the labelling theory is effective in the study of
society.
Overall, in conclusion, there are many different social action theories which can be used in the study
of society, however, not all of them can be applied to all

Actus Reus Essay
Actus Reus
Introduction
The Criminal Law of England and Wales means the portion of the law of England and Wales, which
deals with the components and consequences of criminal acts. The English criminal law is in large
part not regulated by law, but in the tradition of common law judge made law. The offense consists in
the English law of Actus Reus and mens rea together.
Actus Reus is the Latin term meaning the act of guilt (the outer or objective of a criminal offense).
This is an essential element in the determination of a crime. Thus, when no reasonable doubt exists as
a result of the demonstration of proof, the act of guilt, shown together with the intention of the
individual to commit a crime (mens rea), creates criminal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A person can be charged with a crime for not acting, if there is a legal duty to act. For example,
parents have a duty to protect their children from harm. If they fail to take reasonable steps to protect
their children, a reckless omission to act could result in criminal charges. Parents who failed to feed
their children could be prosecuted for child neglect. The duty to act is usually defined in criminal
statutes. Thus, the deliberate failure to file a federal income tax return violates the criminal provisions
of the Internal Revenue Code. Conversely, if there is no legal duty to act, the failure to do so is not a
crime. For example, the failure to rescue a drowning stranger does not meet the Actus Reus
requirement.
Actus Reus in Criminal Law
This principle has been restricted by many exceptions: Failure leads to criminality about it, if the
statute law is merely said that a success caused to be. But also in the field of law is not fixed common
law crime several exceptions are discussed:

Reinvention of Self in Tess of the D’Urbervilles by Thomas...
Tess D Urberville, the protagonist of Tess of the D Urbervilles, must ask herself this very important
question as she navigates the complexity of her life. Although she must provide for her family by
running errands, taking care of her younger siblings, and managing her unruly parents Tess is a
product of her culture. She is unintentionally passive in dire situations such as when she drifted into a
reverie and killed the family horse, or when fell asleep and was raped. Tess is also a symbol of purity,
innocence and fertility like many other women of the time. Although social stigmas and her immoral
social status are hindering, Tess s burdensome past is the problem that truly prevents her from
escaping her fate and developing a sense of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The humiliation of working with a fallen woman weighs heavily on Vicar s conscience. Although
society and the church have abandoned Tess, she is still able to preserve some her pride and optimism.
After her disgrace, Tess is still able to escape and stay as much out of observation as possible (84).
The Vicar would not bury her child so Tess did. Tess can easily move on from these hindrances. The
optimism and hope Tess has is demonstrated in her resolve to leave the D Urberville air castles in the
deeds of her new life (100). Determined to shed her tainted image, Tess does not mention anything
about her shady past. With an uplifted spirit Tess begins work at Talbothay s Dairy. Because of the
holy, ethereal, dazzling image Tess puts forth Angel Clare falls in love with her (131). The first time
Angel asks Tess to marry him, Tess admits that I can never be his wife that marriage is impossible
(181). The second time Angel proposes, Tess hesitates, saying that the other farm girls surely love him
more that she does. Although she resolved to start anew, Tess s prior indecencies prevent her from
committing completely to her relationship with Angel. Tess and the narrator feel that it would be
immoral to marry Angel because she would not be able to fulfill the pure, innocent wife image Angel
desires. In order feel completely free, Tess needs to tell all her history to Angel Clare (200). She defies
her mother s warning to not say a word of your

Hugo s Restaurant Style
When I began writing this blog post, I thought that the menu of Hugo s would be the draw for people.
Looking to have a great meal is one thing I can agree with Houston about on many levels and Hugo s
has got some really fun, interesting, delicious food. Once I even had crickets there. And they were
good. Like, really good.
But adventuresome eating isn t even the most interesting thing about Hugo s, which serves authentic
Mexican regional cuisine from many of Mexico s numerous cultural variants. Executive Chef Hugo
Ortega (the Hugo in Hugo s) considers authentic Mexican cooking to be a world class cuisine that has
remained virtually unchanged by the outside world. He seeks to find the subtle flavors of each area
and integrate them into his technically distinguished menu, bringing a reverent tone to this beautiful
homage to Mexican diversity. However, despite the exceptional cuisine, despite the historic, beautiful
building, despite even your love of a good story about me eating strange foods, nothing trumps the
intrigue of a great story: Tracy Vaught and Hugo Ortega are plenty of story to tell.
Tracy is an idiosyncratic restaurant owner, perhaps owing to her background not in restaurants but in
geology. Looking for a career change from the isolating business of rock analysis, Tracy considered a

The Final Solution Essay
The Final Solution There are two main schools of thought amongst historians about the Final Solution
and only one of them is right. The intentionalist theory is that of one which places Hitler at the helm
where he is seen to have had the intention from the beginning (even before his rise to power) to
exterminate the Jews. International Jewry was blamed for the humiliation of Germany in the Treaty of
Versailles, and German Jewry was accused of betraying Germany in World War I. The functionalist
theory is that where the Final Solution was decided upon only after many failed attempts to force Jews
to emigrate from Germany. After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the very beginning Hitler simply wanted lebensraum, living space, for the pure German people. In
the Nuremberg Laws of 1930, the Nazi party wanted to design a series of laws that assured the purity
of German blood and German honour and basically stripped Jews of their rights so that they would
move on. These laws were passed in 1935 and many others, ensured a move on Hitler s view of the
Jewish race in Germany. No law passed ever stated the physical destruction of the Jewish race. In a
letter to Adolf Gemlich in 1919, Hitler states that he stated that the Jewish problem would eventually
be solved through a process of depriving the Jews privileges and classifying them as foreigners. This
in its own right shows that early on in the movement Hitler only wanted to make the Jews feel un
wanted and rejected in the German way of life. In 1940, plans were devised by the Nazis to ship all
Jews to Madagascar. This was called the Madagascan Plan and involved moving every single Jew
from Germany and her captured lands to Madagascar so as to rid them from Germany altogether. This
was abandoned soon after the Wannsee Conference as it was deemed impractical for operation during
wartime. Even in Hitler s book, Mein Kampf, we can see The Death Camps that led to the death of so
many Jewish people was actually under the ultimate control of Heinrich

(Word Count=1650)
Liraglutide is a new drug for weight management presently in clinical trial. Explain the proposed
mechanism of the drug and briefly report the outcome of the clinical trials.
Introduction
Liraglutide is a glucagon like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP 1), which is synonymous with the
naturally occurring human peptide GLP 1 produced in the colon and solitary tract of the brain (Baggio
and Drucker, 2007). The drug was developed recently for weight management and the treatment of
diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) and has clinically been shown to promote weight loss. As rates of
obesity and DM2 increase for both adults and children in Australia halting and reversing this
increasing trend has become a national and worldwide health priority (Australia s health 2012, 2012).
This essay will illustrate how the drug Liraglutide can aid in reversing this trend and promote weight
loss.
Background
The drug Liraglutide is seen on the market as two different medications, Victoza and Saxenda.
Initially the drug was approved only for treatment of DM2 back in 2009, but recently was approved
for treatment of obesity as well. The common but different forms differ slightly in their composition
and so are used for different purposes, Victoza for diabetes and Saxenda for weight loss. The drug is
recommend to be used as an adjunct to diet and exercise in the treatment of individuals with a BMI
higher than 27 and for those with DM2 to achieve

The Fall Of The Republic And Fall
Main Article
When articles are written about the fall of the Republic and the fall of democracy, the blame is often
attributed to one man: Julius Caesar. However, a figure that tends to be overlooked in popular history
held the consulship over fifty years prior to the Republic s inevitable fall was named Gaius Marius.
Coming from an obscure Volscian town in the territory of Arpinum, sixty miles south east of Rome,
Plutarch wrote of Marius coming from poor origins and rising to the consulship as an archetypal rags
to riches story. This is nothing more than dramatic flair, since in reality he came from a good
municipal family who were members of the local aristocracy, with the contemporary view
characterising them as powerful nobles in their native town.
Upon being elected consul in 107 BC, Marius was presented with the chance to cement his legacy.
Accordingly, he began to reform the military. Before leaving for Africa, to finish off Jugurtha, he
changed the traditional way of recruitment. Previously, Roman citizens were recruited on the basis of
their property qualification: Scullard writes that the rule was that the army should be recruited only
from men enrolled in the five classes. Instead, Marius appealed to the proletarii, who were men that
lacked the necessary property qualification. This wasn t any great innovation, as property
qualifications had already been reduced. He simply completed the next logical step. But the results of
this reform were

Superiority Theory In Reflections Upon Laughter
Superiority theory was therefore confirmed by the superior members of society refraining from
laughing. In Reflections Upon Laughter, Hutcheson argued against Hobbes s claim that the essential
feature of laughter is expressing feelings of superiority is. If Hobbes were right, claims Hutcheson,
there can be no laughter where we do not compare ourselves with others or with some former state of
ourselves and whenever we feel sudden glory, we laugh. But neither of these is true. We sometimes
laugh at an odd metaphor or simile, for example, without comparing ourselves to anyone. Not only are
feelings of superiority not necessary for amusement, Hutcheson argued, but they are not sufficient,
either. We have feelings of superiority toward people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the superiority theory which aims at social reform through the emotional side of humour,
incongruity theory aims at social reform through the cognitive side. The cognitive juxtaposition of
contrary interests and attitudes is the key to comedy in Bernard Shaw. The slum dwellers and
landlords in Widower s House, romantic and realistic attitudes to war in Arms and the Man, external
polish and internal instincts in Pygmalion provide comic juxtaposition and create humour with satire.
This approach was taken by James Beattie, Immanuel Kant, Soren Kierkegaard, Arthur Schopenhauer,
and many later philosophers and psychologists. It is now the dominant theory of humor in philosophy
and psychology. As Robert Latta and others have pointed out, the words incongruous and incongruity
are used sloppily in many versions of the theory. The dictionary says that incongruous things are
characterized by a lack of harmony, consistency, or compatibility with one another. Congruere in Latin
means to come together, to agree. In geometry, congruent triangles have the same shape and size; one
fits exactly over the other (104). Paul McGhee s uses the term incongruity interchangeably with
absurdity, ridiculousness, and the ludicrous. McGhee offers a second definition of incongruity:
something unexpected, out of context, inappropriate, unreasonable, illogical, exaggerated, and so
forth. (10). The core concept in incongruity theories is based on the fact that human experience works
with learned patterns. Most of the time, most experiences of most people follow such mental patterns.
The future turns out like the past. But sometimes we perceive or imagine a thing whose parts or
features violate our mental

Rapid Decline Of Crime In The 1990s
Components of the Rapid Decline in Crime of the 1990s The 1960s were more than just Civil Rights
and Woodstock. Contrary to what the people believed, the 1960s was an important decade in regards
to ending the peaceful period of crime decline that the United States had been enjoying since 1930
(Levitt, Dubner 115 146). The United States was about to see the highest crime rates in its history by
the end of the 1980s, heading for the 1990s. Upon entering the 1990s though, what was being
recorded were record levels of crime, but in the opposite direction as predicted (Levitt, Dubner 115
146). Instead of the highest crime rates, the United States actually observed rates similar to that of the
1960s. Although the 1960s were when crime began to steadily ... Show more content on

history, and as a result, many different strategies were being implemented in order to control the

Canada had been through a lot since the First World War broke out. There are many different factors

young independent nation fought and triumphed over adversity.
The battle of Vimy Ridge was an important turning point for Canada because it brought both world
recognition and a strong sense of patriotism. As the massive assault recognition and a strong sense of

  • 3. Richard Sheirer Building 7 According to Richard Sheirer, the NYC Commissioner of Emergency Management, they were given orders to evacuate building 7 before it collapsed. He says that he does not remember exactly when the order came or who gave it because it had been hard to keep track of the time with everything happening. And from this moment on, and based on the comment that Sheirer gave, people came out with two frames that they use to interpret this event. The first one is the frame that building 7 was actually burning because it was close by to the collapsing twin towers and something might ve happened to sit the building on fire for more than 5 hours which caused the building to collapse. The other point of view, or frame, is that the collapse of building 7 was a conspiracy from the government of USA. People in favor with the second frame argue that USA had a setting predetermined agenda for destroying building 7, which bears the City s Command office. When anyone searches about Building 7 of the World Trade Center in Google, heshe will be shocked. There are some websites that are dedicated to prove their points of view on the collapse of the building 7. One of the websites that comes out when the research is done is ... • 4. Factual Political Knowledge Hard news and soft news are said to be the extreme ends of standards in news value. The former includes coverages of serious topics which are timely in orientation, while the latter is applied to matters of human interests, entertainment, sports, and similar subjects. In response to declining news readership, the fine lines between these two differing formats are being obscured as the more serious hard news would employ entertaining styles and the less serious soft news would inform in a traditional manner. Considering this blur, should it be of matter if one would prefer a specific format in reference to their features, i.e., to choose either from news that is relying on information or entertainment? Seeking legitimate and accurate information would not be the term for choosing either hard or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his article, Any Good News in Soft News? Markus Prior pointed out that people who prefer soft news formats are significantly less knowledgeable than those who prefer hard news. This implies that a rise in factual political knowledge, as well as a long term retention of that knowledge is improbable with the preference for soft news. Matthew Baum, in his commentary Soft News and Political Knowledge would later argue that Prior s findings of the absence of a measurable increase in factual political knowledge is an overly restrictive definition of learning and that it rather demonstrates the absence of long term retention of factual knowledge. Baum further presented evidences which speaks of an enhanced attainment of factual knowledge, at least in high profile issues and scandals from coverage of soft news. For instance, the use of episodic frames in soft news media influences the attention and judgments of people as they can vividly recall on past known information. Another case is the extraction of emotional charges from soft news reportage which makes people remember the way they feel about an issue, say, an election or social ... • 5. Pathos In The Other Face Black holes are very huge formations in the space that have a tremendous tendency for absorbing everything in the surrounding, and so our personalities are. We are born as void memory children who couldn t differentiate between right and wrong. However, we were also programmed in a certain manner that tells us what we are supposed to be, or exhibit. Socialization is a main clue which is regarded as a programming utility for our personalities. Therefore, Salma Shalash, in The Other Face, had a desire in shedding the light over the effect of personality programming, socialization, on relationships, with respect to gender considerations. Shalash conducted her message by writing a short temporary Egyptian story of a couple, being about to marry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pathos was used explicitly by grabbing the emotions and feeling of the audience by the unexpected spontaneous reaction of the fiancée ( Ethos, Pathos, and Logos ), showing her real mask, when she noticed that her relationship and marriage are subjected to danger. Ethos is achieved by relying on a divorced axial character, a friend of hers. The former dependence paves the audience mind for the fact that marriage, at that environment, ceases being a divorce when problems, related to misperceiving personalities, arise among couples. The author also accounted for the left brain audience who are mainly interested in one to one events; consequently, Logos , as a persuasion mode, was used as a transition between Shalash s knowing that her relationship with Fouad would be adversely affected and her spontaneous reaction, based on her character, of the unexpected visit. To sum up, The Other Face, by Salma Shallash, managed to conduct the message, triggered by the author s exigency, through a theoretical writing model integrating both persuasion and original writing style. Salma Shallash, in her story, assures the common Egyptian motto: Everything is with disagreement, except for marriage . She also emphasizes that actions can be evaluated in different ways according to the one s perspective in perceiving them. • 6. Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest and Anthony... When African slaves were sold to Americans, they lost their fundamental rights as human beings. However, their inferiority was further cemented when slaves eventually conformed to their white owners. In slavery s infancy, almost all slaves resisted against their oppressors in one form or another but had limited to no success. These failed resistances eventually led to hopelessness for the slaves as they even began to consider slavery as an accepted practice. Many slaves developed a notion of performing their forced labour more willingly and in turn their owners decreased the beatings and cruelty towards them ( Slavery in the United States. ) For instance, slaves who displayed respect towards their owners were assigned to perform less ... Ms.Ratched s reign is rooted in stability because she commands her ward with an iron fist and does not allow any opportunity for an uprising. To compare, in Alex s society, there is a lack of regulations enforced by the corrupt government s hired police, which cause the citizens to question the validity of their administration. Both Nurse Ratched and the totalitarian government in A Clockwork Orange utilize technology, in the form inhibiting the brain from functioning on free will, to preserve their own power. To begin, Nurse Ratched, in One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, employs electroshock therapy on those who challenge her authority over the hospital. When Randle McMurphy confesses his weakness towards the nurse s electroshock therapy, Chief relates this struggle to his father s battle with alcohol: My father was real big. ABSTRACT The project is designed to minimize penalty for industrial units by using automatic power factor correction unit with the help of zig bee. Power factor is defined as the ratio of real power to apparent power. This definition is often mathematically represented as KW/KVA, where the numerator is the active (real) power and the denominator is the (active + reactive) or apparent power. Reactive power is the non working power generated by the magnetic and inductive loads, to generate magnetic flux. The increase in reactive power increases the apparent power, so the power factor also decreases. Having low power factor, the industry needs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of Fasting Feasting By Anita Desai In the passage from Fasting, Feasting by Anita Desai, Arun, a foreign exchange student from India, much to his disdain, joins the mother and daughter of his host family, Melanie and Mrs. Patton, on a day to the beach. The complicated and warped experience that Arun faces on the day trip is characterized by the literary tools used by Anita Desai, such as diction, syntax, and rich descriptions. From the opening paragraph of the passage, Arun s uneager disposition is shown, when he is displayed trying to avoid of the day s plans. However, the extent of Arun s disapproval of the plans is shown through words like despondent, to show the dispirited disposition of the boy, and wildly when describing his formulation of excuses. Furthermore, the relationship between Arun and his host family is presented in this introductory scene, and their eagerness of getting the boy out of the house is shown through Desai s choice to describe Melanie s method of getting him involved as staring challengingly. This emphasizes her determination to get the exchange student out of the house by using a fairly aggressive term, creating the sense of a showdown for the reader. Desai continues the description of the standoff with her use of syntax in the next paragraph. The author avoids using quotation marks during dialogue, as shown when Mrs. Patton says, No, she will not. Absolutely not. This creates a more intriguing section to read, but also creating a strong sense of insistence. With the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is also a major constraint on presidential power if there are united houses, because the president would find it hard to pass law, and counter laws that he didn t want. The House has a few exclusive powers that the Senate does not. The House is the only one of the two that can initiate money bills. The president himself nor EXOP can do such a thing. This offers the House of Representatives a large scope of power in financial issues abroad and domestically. Impeachment is also another power possessed by the House. If a president or a member of the federal government has been acting illegally or unconstitutionally the House can impeach formally accuse them of it. This is then trialed in the Senate, but offers the House a lot of power over the president, and helps congress with it s scrutiny of the executive. The Senate also has a few exclusive powers that are strong in the right circumstances. The senate confirms appointments by a simple majority to most appointments made by the president. Furthermore, the poem discusses the solitude of the speaker in the house and the lack of any additional human presence and the absence of vivacity in nature; this painting illustrates this notion through trees devoid of their leaves, the absence of any animal or human and the lack of sunlight as a result of the dull wintry setting. Morning in the Burned House captures the reader s attention through eloquent descriptions despite its bleak content. My Street embodies this trait of the poem perfectly; it displays an isolated and gloomy environment, yet, it illustrates the landscape with captivating colors and sensibly placed brushstrokes. • 13. Lord Of The Glies And John Locke s Lord Of The Flies Jordan Early Nathan Carpenter PHIL 101.004 4 December 2017 John Locke Lord of the Flies In the book, Second Treatise of Government , John Locke explains to the readers how a government should be run and the freedoms that people should have. He also talks about the natural laws that people should follow. Locke petitions a natural law of morality to govern people before they enter a society. But in order to conserve themselves, people come together to lay a foundation for a government. Once that has begun, the people agree on certain fundamental behaviors to follow. According to Locke, this action breaks down their natural rights as human beings. This follows the movie, Lord of the Flies, as boys are stranded on a remote island out at sea. The boys start out in Locke s state of nature. Due to them being all alone, they work together to survive. While beginning their new life as a uniform tribe, they inevitably come to an unacceptable state of war that gives rise to complete and utter chaos on the island. John Locke describes the state of nature as a state all men are naturally in, and that is, a state of perfect freedom to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and persons, as they think fit, within the bounds of the law of nature, without asking to leave, or depending upon the will of any other man (§4). • 14. Earthquakes, They Destroy, Kill, And Demolish Earthquakes, they destroy, kill, and demolish. Earthquakes have been recorded for a long time. Records have been and always will continue to be recorded for centuries. Earthquakes are recorded by instruments called seismographs. The recording that they make is called a seismogram. These drum sized tubes of decades of earthquakes are more than likely stored in science labs. Earthquakes however, are the releasing of stored energy from plate tectonics. Plate tectonics is the study of 7 massive pieces of rock called continents. They build up energy from pressurized rock that is pushed against each other. When it releases it is like ripples in the water but those ripples are about 10 times the size, plus the waves can go through the earth and hit outer parts of the earth on the other side. Yet, because of different types of materials, the waves will never pass straight through the earth. The thing that powers plate tectonics is convection currents. The crust (the farthest and the outer est layer of the earth and the one we know and love because it is helping us not to die) and the upper part of the mantle (that is a loll squid of different density and different types of metals) make up the lithosphere. It also holds up the plate boundarys where Pangaea split into 7 massive pieces of rock. The three different types of plate boundaries are convergent boundarys, divergent boundarys, and transform boundarys. What happens at a convergent boundary is the plates push directly against ... However, it is the opinion of many that high schools are not educating students on things that will truly help them succeed in adult life. There are many forms of social action theories, the main ones being symbolic interactionism, phenomenology and ethnomethodology. They are all based on the work of Max Weber, a sociologist, who acknowledged that structural factors can shape our behaviour but individuals do have reasons for their actions. However, a figure that tends to be overlooked in popular history held the consulship over fifty years prior to the Republic s inevitable fall was named Gaius Marius. Coming from an obscure Volscian town in the territory of Arpinum, sixty miles south east of Rome, Plutarch wrote of Marius coming from poor origins and rising to the consulship as an archetypal rags to riches story. This is nothing more than dramatic flair, since in reality he came from a good municipal family who were members of the local aristocracy, with the contemporary view characterising them as powerful nobles in their native town. Upon being elected consul in 107 BC, Marius was presented with the chance to cement his legacy. Accordingly, he began to reform the military. Before leaving for Africa, to finish off Jugurtha, he changed the traditional way of recruitment. Previously, Roman citizens were recruited on the basis of their property qualification: Scullard writes that the rule was that the army should be recruited only from men enrolled in the five classes. Unlike the superiority theory which aims at social reform through the emotional side of humour, incongruity theory aims at social reform through the cognitive side. The cognitive juxtaposition of contrary interests and attitudes is the key to comedy in Bernard Shaw. The slum dwellers and landlords in Widower s House, romantic and realistic attitudes to war in Arms and the Man, external polish and internal instincts in Pygmalion provide comic juxtaposition and create humour with satire. This approach was taken by James Beattie, Immanuel Kant, Soren Kierkegaard, Arthur Schopenhauer, and many later philosophers and psychologists. It is now the dominant theory of humor in philosophy and psychology. As Robert Latta and others have pointed out, the words incongruous and incongruity are used sloppily in many versions of the theory. The dictionary says that incongruous things are characterized by a lack of harmony, consistency, or compatibility with one another. Congruere in Latin means to come together, to agree. In geometry, congruent triangles have the same shape and size; one fits exactly over the other (104). Paul McGhee s uses the term incongruity interchangeably with absurdity, ridiculousness, and the ludicrous. McGhee offers a second definition of incongruity: something unexpected, out of context, inappropriate, unreasonable, illogical, exaggerated, and so forth. (10).
