is, as the ancient
Greek philosopher
Aristotle once said, a
“social animal”.
3. Society
• Definition of Society: is the
group of relationships within
which we move, which allow
us to develop and live.
• We can live in society thanks
to the effort of all of its
members. Each of us has a
function in society, and we are
able to live, and even enjoy,
thanks to society and its social,
political and cultural
institutions. Society works
thanks to rules or laws.
Relations between individuals
and society:
• Negative relations: based on
discrimination and exclusion of
some members. Examples:
Racism: it is a belief that one
race is superior to the other or the
practice of treating a person or group
of people differently on the basis of
their race.
Xenophobia: is the unreasoned
fear of that which is perceived to be

Relations between individuals
and society:
• Positive relations: based on
harmony and integration of all
their members.
Respect for the different.
Conscious of your rights
and duties.
Civic attitude: empathy,
dialogue, tolerance, respect
for the public property, etc.
Education for Citizenship
• It is about the
knowledge, skills and
understanding to play
an active, effective
part in society as
informed, critical
citizens who are
socially and morally
responsible.
