Free Trade Agreement Essay
The Commonwealth of Independent States Free Trade Agreement (CISFTA) is an agreement between
Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Moldova. Five of the
CISFTA participants, all except Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Moldova are also members of the Eurasian
Economic Union comprising a single economic market. The agreement was signed on October 18,
2011, by eight Commonwealth of Independent States nations. The 2011 CISFTA comes into effect
after the ratification of three participants and will be comprehensive across agricultural, fishery, and
forestry goods, except for maintaining import and export rules and regulations on sugar and several
other products.
The early 1990s saw some very radical changes in global ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The agreement is comprehensive and involves agriculture, fishery, and forestry goods, apart from
maintaining import duties on sugar and export duties on several products. For Russia, the Agreement
is a complex balance of political and economic costs and benefits, exposing Russia s agriculture to
greater competition from the other nations, but allowing it to gain greater geopolitical and economic
influence in the region. The agreement will go into effect 30 days after the first three endorsements.
The Speakers of Ukraine s parliament and the upper branch of the Russian parliament suggested on
November 30, 2011, that all CIS members should sanction the FTA in only one day. On December 9,
2011, Russia s First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov stated that CIS countries were getting ready
to endorse the 2011 CISFTA. Except for Russia, there was little or no progress on approval in the rest
the member states, with Belarus being the only other country so far signaling likely ratification of the
agreement in the 2012 spring session of the parliament.
The CISFTA establishes that World Trade Organization s rules will apply to government procurement,
customs transit of goods, application of special safeguard, anti dumping and countervailing measures,
technical barriers to trade, as well as provision of subsidies and other measures applied in trade
between its signees. Parties to the trade agreement cannot apply additional trade barriers, except for
those that are

Cloning Bad
Is cloning bad or good for us? According to NIH website, it states there are three different types of
artificial cloning: gene cloning, reproductive cloning and therapeutic cloning. In our biology textbook
it states that cloning makes an identical copy of a gene. Gene cloning replicates genes and DNA
segments. Reproductive cloning makes a duplication of an animal. Therapeutic cloning makes
embryonic stem cells to help produce tissues to restore damaged or diseased tissues. I believe that
cloning technology can help resolve many things, we would be able to learn and develop more things
that could help the world.
An example of reproductive cloning is Dolly the sheep. She was the first mammal to be cloned from
an adult cell, which is much more difficult to clone from. She lived to be only 6 years old due to
arthritis. They took an udder cell from a six year old Finn Dorset white sheep. They changed the
growth medium to keep the udder cell alive but it stopped them from expanding. According to the
article Cloning Dolly The Sheep ,they injected the cell into an unfertilised egg cell and made the cells
fuse by using electrical pulses. Therefore, they moved the DNA of the donor animal s ... Show more

According to the website Greengarage, it stated the artificial interference is wrong and can lead to a
domino effect, other attributes of life could be altered and have a negative result. This shows that
cloning could have a domino effect in nature, if we change one thing it could change everything; the
results it could be bad. Furthermore it states human DNA can be contaminated, and the chances of
success are very rare. This shows that many things could go wrong during cloning and we don t know
if we would be able to solve the problem. Thus, cloning also has disadvantages like interfering with
nature and resulting in many

Analysis OfThe Monkey s Pockets, And The Masque Of Red Death
As stated so eloquently by Rascal Flatts in their hit song Life is a Highway , Life is a highway and I
wanna ride it all night long. life is a never ending cycle of riding forward in life and facing the truths
that face people along the way. To, quote, Ride it all night long, is to face the realities of life and revel
in the truths it gives one until their death. However, when someone tries to hide from what is truly in
front of them, disastrous consequences can occur. In the short stories The Monkey s Paw, by W.W.
Jacobs, Contents of a Dead Man s Pockets, by Jack Finney, and The Masque of Red Death, by Edgar
Allen Poe, there is one common theme that ties them together. Despite the fact the these stories are all
very far apart, ranging in time periods, characters and styles of storytelling, there is still the theme
connecting them. The one common theme that connects these stories is one must not hide from reality,
but face their own problems, less they face dire consequences. First of all, there was the story, The
Monkey s Paw, by W.W. Jacobs. The Whites were the perfect family, a father, mother, and son. The
did not have much, but they were content with their lives. They accepted the reality they were in. That
did not last. One day they received a gift from a friend, the Sergeant Major, that could bend reality. Or
at least, it seemed to. The gift was a paw, said to grant three wishes. As stated in the story, It had a
spell put on it by an old

Australian Platypus Research Paper
My choice of animal that I personally chose to represent this great nation as our national symbol is the
Australian Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus). This beautiful mammal is the quintessential
American animal. The reasons I believe the Australian Platypus (informally referred to as the
platypus) should be our national symbol are found in the essence of this great nation; they are family
oriented, they are a hodgepodge similar to that of our nation s culture, and the platypus is honorable
and noble, just like America. The Platypus is family oriented. The adult platypus are seen as great
protectors and overseers of their children and will go as far as to protect them from other cannibalistic
platypuses. Similar to America, the Australian

Cheating Is Not A New Conversation
Cheating is not a new conversation when it comes to sports. There are several forms of cheating such
as shaving points, using performance enhancement drugs, or sports betting. The formal definition of
cheating is to act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or
examination, (Merriam Webster dictionary). When it comes to college sports, it is easy for a player to
be persuaded to shave a few points for money. A typical question asked about sports is what happens if
a team or player is caught cheating? Cheating is widespread it just depends on if the team or player
gets caught. Recent examples of the cheating culture in sport includes Bill Belichick, coach of the
New England Patriots, directing his staff to videotape the defensive signals of the New York Jets and
athletes in 10 sports at Florida State University cheating on their academic work, (Lumpkin, 2011, p.
2). With cheating being so widespread, the real reason to play sports seems to be lost in all the chaos
of winning.
Cheating in sports is such an intriguing topic. Personally, this topic is interesting to me because sports
are a part of my life and whenever someone cheats just to win, I always wonder why they would do
such a thing. I understand that cheating happens in every level of sport. But what if everyone is
cheating? These questions are the reasons this topic is important to me. In addition, how will we
remember these athletes if they are labeled cheaters for the rest of

Exploration of Bondage in Middle Passage Essay
Bondage can be defined as a state of subjection to a force, power, or influence or the state of being
under the control of another person. Throughout the novel Middle Passage, written by Charles
Johnson, bondage is a reoccurring theme. The characters in the novel are bonded physically,
emotionally, or psychologically. Some characters are bonded and can not escape their bondage. Others
choose to place themselves in the situations. Throughout the course of the novel, some of the
characters gain their freedom and move forward with their lives. Other characters are never able to
gain their freedom because their lives end in death.

Rutherford faces the enslavement of marriage before and after getting onboard the Republic. He is on
the ship because he doesn t want to marry Isadora. By marrying Isadora, he could have freed himself
from the bondage of debt. However, once he boards the ship and becomes a crew member, he is faced
with the enslavement of marriage once more. Falcon considers Rutherford his spy and gives him a
special gun. This gun requires him to wear a ring to prevent anyone else from using it. They both have
the same rings on their left hand, and Rutherford states that we were married, and the very thing [he]
had fled from in New Orleans had overtaken [him] (103).
Rutherford doesn t become a free man until he comes to grips with his past and deals with the
abandonment of his father. When his father takes on the role of the Allmuseri god, Rutherford is
forced to look into and through his father s eyes. Through the Allmuseri god, Rutherford learns that
his father didn t abandon him but was killed just miles from the plantation on the day he tried to
escape. This allows Rutherford to make peace with one of the voices inside his head and realize that
no matter how hard he tries to shun his father, his father will always be a part of him. Rutherford is
then able to free himself of his past and move into the future. As the novel comes to a close,

Renewable Resources For Solar Energy
Solar Energy is something that the entire world relies on every day. Without energy, the earth would
be dark, and nothing will be able to operate. Lately, there has been many concerns with the various
types of resources that are used to generate energy. Many resources that are used are non renewable
resource. This means that the resources such as oil and coal are not grown or produced, they are found
in regions in specific sections of the world. These resources are also recognized as fossil fuels.
Researchers have been working for numerous years to find new ways to generate energy without using
these resources that cause issues for the environment. By using renewable sources such as the sun,
new ways to create energy have developed. Solar energy is energy that is created by the sunshine. This
sort of energy that derives from the sun can create electricity in households. With new emerging
technology, solar energy can perform different types of energy for diverse uses such as heating water
or generate electricity for a home. This alternative energy that goes beyond fossil fuels can be
extremely beneficial for the environment; However, there might be some downfalls for a consumer if
they needed to use solar energy to provide electricity.
The sun has been playing a very significant role for earth and humans. It has been the producer of
light and without it several things would not exist. Now another part that the sun is playing in
humanity is being a generator of energy. The

Acute Care Of Pelvic Fractures
Abstract
Background:
Pelvic fractures usually occur within major crash high energy scenes, in which urgent
multidisciplinary input is needed (Giannoudis et al., 2007). Acute care of pelvic fractures has
improved in the past ten years yet there are still no formal guidelines or evidence for rehabilitation of
these types of fractures. Patients have long periods of non weight bearing which can cause problems
such as muscle wastage. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) has been proven to minimise
muscle loss and enhance recovery (Gondin et al., 2005). However, this has not been determined within
this patient group before.
Objective:
The primary objective of this study was to determine if the application of NMES is feasible in this
patient group. In addition, whether it improves hip abductor and adductor peak torque in pelvic
fracture rehabilitation compared to a placebo group.
Methods:
Seven patients with surgically fixed pelvic fractures were randomly allocated into two groups at six
weeks post fracture. The treatment group completed six weeks of daily NMES. The placebo group
completed six weeks of daily transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). The percentage
peak torque in the operated limb was measured at 12 weeks using a HUMAC strength assessment
machine using the non operated limb as a baseline.
Results:
No significant difference was found between percentage peak torque difference for operated and non
operated limbs with hip abduction and adduction

The Lotus Eater
Mythic Structure in Somerset Maugham s The Lotus Eater The word myth is derived from the Greek
word mythos , which means a traditional tale common to the member of a tribe, race or nation. It
usually involves the supernatural elements to explain some natural phenomenon in boldly imaginative
terms. Today myth has become one of the most prominent terms in contemporary literature analysis. It
was Northrop Frye, one of the most influential myth critics (others including Robert Graves, Francis
Fersusson, Richard Chase, Philip Wheelwright), who discovered certain formulas in the word order.
He identified these formulas as the conventional myths and metaphors which he calls archetypes .

Now, all that sets a text in relationship, whether obvious or concealed, with other texts is denoted by
Genette as transtextuality (1). As a study of relationships, which link a text with the transtextual
network out of which it produces its meaning, it can be further divided into five more specific
subcategories: 1. intertextuality  a relationship of copresence between two texts or among several
texts , that is, the actual presence of one text within the other (Genette 1,2), as we see in the case of
quotations, allusions and plagiarism. 2. paratextuality  a relationship between the text and all the
extra textual writings and materials (peritexts and epitexts), which surround the text and help to direct
and control the reader s reception of it, but themselves remain outside. 3. metatextuality  a
relationship between the text and other texts, upon which it serves as an explicit or implicit
commentary. 4. hypertextuality  a relationship uniting a text (Text B) and another text(Text A), upon
which the previous one is grafted in a way that is not that of a commentary (Genette 5) (here the Text
A is called the hypotext and the Text B the hypertext). 5. archytextuality  a relationship between the
text and the different modes, genres and theme that it refers or belongs to. Now we shall turn our
attention to the fourth one of the above mentioned subcategories, namely to hypertextuality, which
occurs directly at the centre of Genette s

Difference Between Chines For M-Form Organization
M form refers to the unspecialization of subnational governments. It follows a territorial principle that
regions are assigned to be responsible for similar task. For instance, province A is responsible for
agricultural and steel ministry, which is same for the other provinces such as B and C. They can be
seen as substitute for each other because they produce competitive goods. The administrative
coordination is decentralized in M form, meaning that planning in individual level is important. As
these regions need to make production decisions for their ministries, the autonomy of them is quite
high, and they have the right to control and allocate recourses within their jurisdiction. These features
can in fact be linked to the RDA system. In Maskin, Qian and Xu s research, ... Show more content on

So, any lagging behind only implies the low productivity of the regional official. With similar
information structure, regional officials have the incentive to outperform the other rivalries. Regional
competition can already serve as incentive scheme for local officials.
For U form organizations, as regions are different from each other, they react differently towards
industrial shocks. So, this provides an excuse for laggard that it is due to the differentiation regional
conditions. With completely different information structures, there is no incentive for local officials to
work hard under the U form.
Seeing how M form and U form organizations can affect information structures, as a result
determining incentives of local officials, the Maskin, Qian and Xu model can be used to prove it.
Firstly, the model states that there are 2 types of incentives the absolute performance incentive and the
relative performance incentive. The absolute performance incentive links the officials salary with his
outputs, while the relative one links his salary to others output negatively,

Educated Mexican By Rick P. Rivera Summary
To understand who you are, you have to first understand your origin of where you are from. In the
story, A Fabricated Mexican, by Rick P. Rivera, it is about a young boy named Ricky Coronado. His
mom is a very strong willed and encouraging mother, and he lost his father when he was still young.
So without a father figure there to help him through life he is questioning himself about his life.
Which probably lead to why he is so pessimistic and negative.
Without a father image to help you and support you, it will be hard to understand what some things are
in life. For example, when Ricky s mom is telling him how come he isn t like other boys, The fuse had
finally burned down to ignite a cache of collective feelings and confused memories. Because they
have real fathers! I exploded. And everybody in their family is the same age. They stick together!
(Rivera 26). Without a father Ricky wasn t as good as others and doesn t have a good relationship with
his family members as much as all the other boys do. In addition, he disliked how his mother

grows up, because he doesn t have anyone to teach him. Therefore, with Ricky not having a father to
teach him what to do when he grows up, he is having a hard time to understand what to do with his

Summer Camp Personal Statement
During the summer of 2016, I was a volunteer at the Ridge Meadows Child Development Centre s
Therapeutic Summer Camp. My experience at the camp was a memorable one, since I met a young
boy with ADHD. Though it was difficult to get his attention, his condition made me more aware and
got me to communicate in a more innovate way. By talking about a common interest of ours, the sport
of soccer, I was not telling him instructions or asking him for his attention, but instead giving him
mine. Besides my volunteering at the summer camp, I have been a part of many activities, such as the
VolunTEEN program and the Ridge Meadows Homeshow, all throughout high school and the
experiences have shaped who I am today.
Currently in my third year, I am volunteering at my local hospital and residential home, Baillie House,
through the VolunTEEN program as Team Leader. Being a part of the program has opened me to a
new perspective on health. I have learned to socially adapt and build strong bonds, as well as initiate
ways to help others. Furthermore, hearing residents tell their stories or taking patients outside for a

Theme Of Friendship In The House Of Cather
In life, there are several things that cannot be bought in a store, such as friendship. There are several
views on the purpose of friendship. The House of Mirth is a novel by Wharton that revolves on Lily
Bart attempting to find a husband as a way to have a successful life and provides insight on upper
class society in the late 1800s and early 1900s. O Pioneers! is a novel by Cather about how Alexandra
Bergson connects to the land and others and how Emil Bergeson s romance with Marie Shabata
evolves. Both Wharton and Cather view friendship as a means to support and comfort. However,
Wharton also sees friendship as a way to achieve certain things while Cather perceives friendship as a
way to combat loneliness.
For both Wharton and Cather, friendship serves as a vehicle for support and comfort.

The First Day Of English Class
I look the first debate judge in the eyes and he nods. Then my gaze drifts to the second one and she
smiles. Finally I look to my right at my final judge, he simply winks at me. I close my eyes and count
to three. It s finally time to begin; this is my time. These next three minutes everyone has to listen to
me and my opinion. I open my mouth, but the only thought going through my head is, why? Why am I
doing this? Why am I here? Why did I make this mistake?
It was the first day of English class and the teacher asked, who here has ever given a class presentation
before? I looked around hoping, praying, that someone else is like me. However fate was not on my
side. Every hand in the class was proudly raised high and I was all alone on my little island of fear.
The teacher looked directly at me and asked why I had not ever done a presentation. I m a clicker, I
mumbled, it was barely audible but the teacher heard it and his face softened. Well Mr. Peschansky it s
time you become a talker.
A psychological study done in the early 70 s found that people are more afraid of public speaking then
of death. Standing at the front of the room in my first debate tournament I realize just how true that is.

m shaking all over.

Native American Men Stereotypes Analysis
Short Assignment #2 When discussing characters in film and television, portrayals almost always
contain some sort of stereotype. This is especially true of male characters whose qualities are often
shaped around anger and aggression. We can see individuals across genres shown with repeated
motivations, actions, and appearances. These depictions delve even further into stereotyping when we
begin to examine characters who are also people of color. The media often depicts people of color in
tropes based on their racial and ethnic identities, and these tropes are usually offensive and
demeaning. People of color are usually shown in two ways; more aggressive and violent than the
white hero, or less aggressive and violent without imposing a physical threat. Either depiction is meant

of Native Americans in the media. Most of my family is Native American, and while I am not native
myself I was always confused because they never acted in stereotypical ways. Now that I am older
and have began to analyze the portrayal of people of color, I have started to notice the fetishization of
these individuals and their association with nature and mysticism. When associating people of color
with mystical roles, these powers are often meant to aide a usually white hero with no gain for the
person of color. These characters also pose no threat to the hero, and have no existence outside of

Russia s Peace Policy Essay examples
E.E.C. wrote a letter to the editor of The New York Times in 1899 to discuss their negative opinions
concerning the peace conference that Russia wished to set up between itself, England, and the United
States. They described how even though Russia s tsar might be sincere about wanting to hold this
international meeting, he also has a hidden agenda on his mind that he will not come right out and talk
about. The author thinks that Russia is being very deceitful, so other countries should pay close
attention and be weary of falling into their trap. The tsar might want world peace and prosperity like
he says, but he will do whatever it takes to increase Russia s power, status, and wealth.

This would be a huge problem for the entire world. As Sergei Witte, an advisor for both Alexander III
and Nicholas II, noted in his article, Program for a Commercial and Industrial Policy ,
Russia is an independent and strong power. She has the right and the strength not to want to be the
eternal handmaiden of states which are more developed economically...She is proud by her great
might, by which she jealously guards not only the political but also the economic independence of her
empire. She wants to be a metropolis herself. (Witte, 9)
Witte goes on to describe how Russia is starting to find their place in the domination of foreign
industry. He notes that even though the country is not running at its fullest potential right now, it will
be soon. Russians have a great capacity for work, along with the abundance of raw materials and
strong knowledge of agriculture. Now that Russia has disposed of the serfdom policies that have been
in place for many hundreds of years, it is on its way to becoming a foreign powerhouse. During the
time that E.E.C. wrote Russia s Peace Policy , Nicholas II was Russia s tsar. In 1905, he gave back
some of the Russian citizen s civil liberties when he was forced to sign the October Manifesto. Some
of these rights were included trial by jury

Imagine a world without Tex Mex foods. People would not be able to go to Taco Bell anytime of the
day, learn about the mexican culture, and america would not have its prideful cuisine. Tex mex is not
considered mexican food but it is known as America s first original regional cuisine (Alarcon). Many
people believe that tex Mex is just food that mexicans of Texas eat, but that is untrue. People of all
cultural backgrounds eat the original and delicious Tex mex cuisine. To experience true Tex Mex
cuisine one must visit either a restaurant run by someone of that nationality or a home of someone of
those nationalities. Many places try to copy the ways of the cuisine but it is not as authentic as it could
be.
According to Food Timeline, The gourmet Tex Mex fad began in the 1970s ( Mexican ).Tex Mex
foods are know as a combination of many cuisines mixed together. They are known as, a combination
of Indian and Spanish cuisines (Graham). This combination caused the U.S. to produce a new cuisine.
Also, the influence of moroccan cooking, which consists in the usage of cumin and garlic, soon
became part of the history of Tex Mex foods.People in the U.S. used the word Tex Mex to describe
people of Mexican descent living in Texas (Pruitt). This means that Tex mex

Pennies And Dimes Lab Report
Discussion
As presented in Table 1, only pennies were used in this part of the experiment. 8 pennies were added
to the cup at each interval, and in response to the addition, the force consistently increased by 0.20 N.
This demonstrated an upward trending linear relationship, as can be seen in Figure 1. The slope, or m,
represents the weight of a penny, which, is shown in Figure 1 as 0.025 N. The x values represent the
independent variable, which is the # of pennies, while the y values represent the dependent variable,
force (N). Slope can be represented as the change in the force (N) divided by the change in the # of
coins. The value for slope in this data set represents the force per coin. The y intercept value (b) is 0,
which is the y value ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, 1 dime was added to the cup, followed by the addition of 1 penny, then 1 nickel, and finally 1
quarter. The idea was to add the coins in order from the lightest coin in weight (dime) to the heaviest
(quarter) in order to get an upward trend line. When 1 dime was added to the cup, the force was 0.03
N, however, when a penny was added to the cup, the force was increased to a total of 0.05 N. This
represented only a 0.02 N change when the penny was added. This information is inferring that a dime
weighs more than a penny, however, this is not true. An error that may have occurred could be that the
penny was added before the dime was added. Therefore, the penny would have weighed 0.3 N and the
dime would have weighed 0.2 N. However, the information in Table 3 does demonstrate that the
nickel weighs less than the quarter, but more than the penny and dime, giving an upward trend line.
The slope of the line passing through points (1,0.03) and (4,0.2) is 0.056 N. Therefore, 0.056 N is the
average weight of the coins. The x values represent the # of coins, the y values represent the force (N),
and the y intercept value is 0. Initially, a linear graph was generated for Figure 3, however, the trend
line did not pass through each point on the graph and the R2 value was .82. Therefore, a polynomial
trend line was incorporated into the graph, as seen in Figure 3. The

Currently, there are two major of database management systems which are used to deal with data, the
first one called Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) which is the traditional relational
databases, it deals with structured data and have been popular since decades from 1970, while the
second one called Not only Structure Query Language databases (NoSQL), they have been dealing
with semi structured and unstructured data; the NoSQL term was introduced for the first time in 1998
by Carlo Strozzi and Eric Evans reintroduced the term NoSQL in early 2009, and now the NoSQL
types are gaining their popularity with the development of the internet and the social media. NoSQL

The Discovery of Vesicle Transportation System Essay
On October 7th 2013, the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize in
Physiology or Medicine jointly to James E. Rothman, Randy W. Schekman and Thomas C. Sudhof for
their discoveries of machinery regulating vesicle traffic, a major transport system in our cells . Before
this research, knowledge about the vesicle transportation system that eukaryotic cells utilized was
essentially limited to what could be observed, including its various tasks and actions and its huge
significance in cell survival. The question that remained unanswered, however; was exactly how this
system was able to perform and control its tasks with such efficiency and precision throughout the cell
body and beyond. Therefore, Rothman, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This sophisticated intracellular setup has understandingly raised questions about its mechanics and
remained an enigma until the three Nobel Laureates presented their discoveries.
Randy Schekman was able to identify the genes that controlled vesicle trafficking through the use of
yeast cells and it s genetics as a model. In order to identify which genes participate in vesicle
transportation, Schekman used genetic screening, which is a process where mutant organisms are
created and isolated based on the desired phenotype to determine the presence of a gene associated
with a disorder. Through this genetic screening, Randy Schekman observed mutated yeast cells and
isolated those with flawed vesicle transport systems. He observed that these cells experienced
congestion of vesicles in certain areas of the cell, specifically in the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi
complex and the cell surface. Therefore he was able to accredit control of vesicle trafficking to the
twenty three specific genes he later identified and classified in relationship to the location of the
vesicle blocks. James Rothman discovered how vesicles are able to fuse with its target membrane
when transporting molecules by a protein complex. Rothman was able to arrive to this discovery
through the use of his work with a specific viral protein. He used a system where infected cells would

had yet to win on the ultimate stage, the Women s World Cup. This eventually came during the 2015
FIFA World Cup in Canada when the USWNT finally won their first world cup since 1999 and Abby

Types Of Investments And Bonds
Introduction
This paper will examine two basic types of investments; stock and bonds, from an investor s
perspective highlighting the advantages and disadvantages between common stock (equity) and
corporate bonds (debt).
Webster Dictionary defines investment as the outlay of money usually for income or profit usually in a
tangible asset such as property . With both stocks and bonds, the only thing tangible is a simple piece
of paper, a certificate. On the surface, these certificates may seem the same, however there is a very
important fundamental difference. Owning a stock certificate is evidence of being a shareholder;
hence money is exchanged for a portion of ownership in a company. A bond certificate, on the other
hand, represents a contract and evidence of giving a loan to a company. Stocks are considered equity
investments and bonds debt investments. This key difference brings its own set of pros and cons to
each of these types of investment and affects their level of risk and return.
The Advantages of Stocks
Corporations issue both stocks and bonds to raise capital to purchase land, equipment, building, or
even pay off debt. However, there are several advantages to investors to purchase a stock in a
corporation over bonds. First, when you purchase a share of stock you essentially become a part
owner in the company. With this ownership comes special privileges, such as the right to vote on who
sits on the board of directors and on matters that could

basically deals with caste and gender discrimination. Full of autobiographical elements and set in a

Essay about Condoms and the Illusion of Safe Sex
History repeats itself. Even today different issues arise that are quite similar if one takes the time to
notice. Early in the twentieth century, smoking cigarettes became popular in America ( The #1
Preventable 1). The average person had little awareness of the negative health effects of smoking other
than perhaps throat irritation and coughing. In the 1920s, companies began claiming their brand of
cigarettes was physician tested and approved ( Cigarettes were once 2). With this in mind, the general
public believed that smoking was not harmful at all. It was not until 1957 that a link was established
between lung cancer and smoking ( 1957: Smoking causes 1). More negative effects would be
discovered later. Despite this, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
...The answer to both questions is almost certainly: More likely. The free pads would encourage
children to take up the game, and once they were in the habit of playing it, they would often do so
without going to the trouble of strapping on their pads.
Because condoms are available, students will be more likely to use them. They hear lectures on the
importance of using condoms in state required sexual education classes. They see the dispensers every
time they walk into the bathrooms. This makes the idea of sex ever present in their daily environment.
So students will be more likely to choose to engage in safe sex . After that, they may start to
underestimate the risk and build up the feeling of invincibility that is commonly felt among teenagers.
However, even if they were to continue using condoms, safe sex is truly nothing more than an illusion.
There are many physical risks from sexual intercourse that condoms do not protect against. Most
people know about these risks acquiring sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), some of which are
incurable or life threatening. However, the general public exaggerates and upholds the belief that
using a condom can effectively protect against the diseases. Dr. Teresa Crenshaw would disagree. He
was once a president of the American Association of Sex Educators and is currently a member in the
U.S. Presidential AIDS Commission. He once wrote, Saying that the use of condoms is safe sex is in

What is a cyst? A cyst is a sac or bubble that is filled with fluid. Some cyst can be uncomfortable and
cause extensive pain when they rupture, however in this instant and in most cases they are not harmful

PCOS? Some of the most common symptoms are missed or irregular periods, meaning you can go

According to the PCOS fact sheet, infertility (inability to get pregnant) because of not ovulating, is the

The Environmental Causes And Dangers Of Tasmanian Devils
The problem is that the many animals are decreasing due to humans destructing their habit. For
example, Tasmanian devils are endangered is because they are getting tumors that are called devil
facial tumor disease. This is causing their population to decrease as there isn t much they can do when
they have a tumor. Tasmanian Devils are also losing their habitat because the farmers need more land
to grow crops and they live there it s not ideal as then they starve and can t get what they need to live.
Forest land has been cleared over time by humans due to deforestation as people are chopping down
the trees to have more land to grow crops. Land clearing is the process of removing trees, stumps,
brush, stones and other obstacles from an area as required to increase the size of the crop producing
land base of an existing farm or to provide land for a new farm operation. European settlement has
significantly altered Australia s natural landscape. About 90% of native food in the east has been
removed for agriculture, industry, transport and human habitation. About 50% of Australia s
rainforests have been cleared and Australia covered by forest or woodland has been reduced by more
than one third. Around 5% of Australia s higher plants, 7% of reptiles, 9% of birds, 9% of freshwater

The Native Tribes Of The Great Plains And The Eastern...
The native tribes of the Great Plains and the Eastern Woodlands have surprisingly different adaptions
and responses to their expansions by settlers; not only in their cultures, but in their subsistence,
warfare, peacemaking, and gender roles as well. Both tribes were forced to adapt and change due to
the overtaking on the European settlers, but both managed to do it in different ways. First, I will look
at the tribes of the Great Plains. These nomadic tribes survived on hunting, and the great American
Buffalo was their main source of food. These massive animals were the main source for many items
the Plains tribes made from their flesh, hide and bones, such as foods, cups, decorations, tools, knives,
and clothing. The tribes followed the seasonal grazing and migration of buffalo in order to maintain
their diet and subsistence throughout the year. The Plains Indians lived in tipis because they were
easily disassembled and allowed the nomadic life of following game. When horses from the Spanish
were finally obtained, the Plains tribes rapidly joined them into their daily lives. The natives began to
acquire these horses in the 17th century by trading or stealing them from the Spanish colonists in,
what is now, New Mexico. The tribes of the Great Plains were not particularly violent when the
Spanish first invaded, three factors led to the growing importance of warfare in Plains culture. First,
was the Spanish colonization of the New Mexico colony which stirred up raids and

doctrines of equity. The law of Contract pervades the day to day social and economic activities that
have been accentuated by a precipitously burgeoning firmament of electronic commerce. At the outset,
this has significantly given rise to enormous complexities within the panoply of contract law. Ideally,
there are various forms of contract that attract legal attention. It is apt to early state that this paper
seeks, for all intents and purposes to explore the key dimensions of contracts by electronic means.
Electronic Contracts
Contracts by electronic means are commonly referred to paperless contracts, figuratively. They can be
defined as agreements created in digital form without the traditional use of a pen and paper. The
dividing line between electronic contracts and the traditional form of contract is very thin. They are
arguably governed by the general rules of offer and acceptance applicable in contract law and
accepted both internationally and by Australian law. Conversely, a contract formed electronically is
treated like a paper agreement and is legally valid if the contract can easily be retrieved for future
references after the execution and the parties

Witchcraft In Peter Morton s The Trials Of Tempel Anneke
Peter Morton in The Trials of Tempel Anneke discusses different types of magic including high magic,
used by those educated, such as alchemy, and low magic including spells and charms. It is of the
popular belief that maleficium alone would not have caused many witch trials in Europe, rather it was
due to the belief of a link between maleficium and diabolism which requires a pact with the Devil
(Morton, 2006). Magic was not uncommon in early modern Europe and was accepted in communities.
Fear of magic linked to the Devil encouraged fear of low magic and accusations of witchcraft. Anna
Roleffes, also known as Tempel Anneke, was arrested in 1663 due to accusations of witchcraft
presented by her neighbors. Tempel Anneke had many attributes ... Show more content on

She was a social outcast due to not meeting social expectations of the community.
To impose order throughout the Roman Empire a code known as the Carolina influenced witch trials
(Morton, 2006). The Carolina was developed by the medieval church from Roman origins (Morton,
2006, XXX). Investigations required testimony from at least two reliable witnesses and then an
interrogation of the accused (Morton, 2006). Stages of the Carolina include the initiation of an
investigation, the collection of testimonies, and most importantly two confessions, one under torture if
required and one without torture (Morton, 2006). While in the beginning, Tempel Anneke denied the
use of witchcraft and a pact made with the Devil, she eventually gave the court both confessions. Folio
28 contains the first confession under torture where Anneke confesses to learning sorcery, making a
pact with the Evil Enemy who came as a middle sized man, that is, the average man, who had black
hair and wore a black coat, and fornicating with the Devil (Morton, 2006, p.103). The confession
received that was not under torture is discussed in Folio 29. In Folio 29 Anneke repeats the confession
she gave under torture while also attempting to repent her sins (Morton, 2006). Her final confession is
found in Folio 43 where she admits to renouncing God, learning sorcery, visiting the Devil s Dances ,
fornicating with the Devil, and admitting guilt to the testimonies of Hans

American Immigration In The Late 1800s
From the time when the European crisis started, the migration to the Americas has increased. Among
all the countries in the American continent, United States is the one that has received more immigrants
since the sixteenth century until the mid twentieth century. Since then, the most of immigrants are
Latin especially from Mexico. In 2013, around 41.3 million immigrants lived in the United States.
They represent 13 % of the total 316 million U.S. residents. If added the U.S. born children of
immigrants they increase to around 80 million people (Migration Information Source). Thus, it is how
started and continued the immigration in the U.S.

Optimism And Racism
Write it on your heart that every day is the best day of the year. This quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson
appears to be a charming, quaint sentiment, although a sentiment which is seemingly not applicable to
modern society. However, is it possible that each individual could establish an optimisitc, sanguine
attitude throught all the days of their life? In retrospect, I sincerely believe that this is attainable,
through a conscious, caring attitude to our thoughts.
Genuinely unadulterated optimisim and joy is so recherere in modern society. However, optimisim and
an audcaious thrist for a jovial life is wildly infectious. The significant question still stands. How do
we obtain this unshakeable optimism through the storms of life, through clossal challenges, through
unfair critisim and rejection?
When we see unabashedly optimisic indivudals who rejoice in life and modify the way we look at this
immense, vast, capacious world, we wonder how to procure what they have acquired? We concede.

A commonly practiced technique includes observing an atrocious, unpreposessing situation and

Optimisitic inviduals are typically empthatic and compassionate. They view situations through the
eyes of others, which allows them to realize the magnitude of things they have to be thankful for. This
motivates and fuels their splendid attitudes. There are scads of ways optimists stay optimsitic and keep
their loving, joyful countenance in tact every day of the week, even through the trials, tribulations, and

T.S Eliot Prize Essay
14 October 2017
How do William Shakespeare and Carol Ann Duffy subvert traditional roles of gender and sexuality in
From Mrs Tiresias and Sonnet 20 ?
Both Carol Ann Duffy in From Mrs Tiresias and William Shakespeare in Sonnet 20 subvert male
gender roles by presenting the male protagonists with physical female traits. Both poets differ in their
presentation of traditional gender roles and sexuality.
In From Mrs Tiresias , Carol Ann Duffy subverts the gender role of men as strong masculine men,
playing on the modern stereotype that men are unable to cope with the monthly trials and tribulations
of being a woman. She tells us that he had to have One week in bed. Two doctors in. Three ... Show

Shakespeare has a highly misogynistic view of women, saying that their hearts are acquainted With
shifting change , their eyes are false in rolling and he also talks about women being false implying
deceit and an artificial façade. At the culmination of the rhyming couplet, Shakespeare comically tops
his damning excoriation of women by telling us that thy love s use their treasure , insinuating that
women just want one little thing rather than a soul to love endlessly. This is not subverting the
traditional Elizabethan stereotype of women. By contrast, Duffy subverts these gender roles of women
by highlighting that men can also act up to Shakespeare s Elizabethan stereotype, just like Mr Tiresias
is seen doing in From Mrs Tiresias . He is metaphorically prostituting himself; he is seen entering
glitzy restaurants on the arms of [multiple] powerful men and while we are sure this is not for sexual
advances, Duffy highlights the superficial nature of Mr Tiresias quest for notoriety. We have a
complete juxtaposition between each poet and the reinforcement of gender stereotypes of the gender
opposite their own; Shakespeare is renouncing women and thus highlighting the loyalty and
dependability of men by using the pitfalls of women to celebrate the qualities of the Fair Youth i.e the
man he is revering by contrast, whereas Duffy is repudiating men and accentuating the patience,
kindness and supportiveness of women (Mrs Tiresias is holding his new soft

Dark Side of Beauty Pageants Essay
The Dark Side of Beauty Pageants With their glamour, expensive dresses, jewels and, big fake smiles,
beauty pageant contestants are just hiding their true personalities under materialistic things. People
may say that beauty pageants aren t always about looks. The contestants are scored on beauty,
personality, evening wear, athletic wear and over all perception of the contestant. Beauty contestant
ages range from 2 years old to 60+ years old. The fact that contestants lie about their beliefs in order
to get a good score for their personality and, present stereotypes to the world that young women to

This shows that beauty pageants do have a large impact on the way people view themselves, causing
eating disorders. Over all beauty pageants have brought eating disorders, low self esteem and
depression to many women in our society. Many beauty contestants lie about their true feelings about
certain topics just so they will receive a good score in the questioning/ personality aspect of the
contest. People may say that contestants describe their true beliefs. An example of this is when Miss
California described her anti gay marriage beliefs to pro gay marriage judges. Miss California (Carrie
Prejean) may have discussed her true feelings about her political views on gay marriage, but she was
then negatively judged on her beliefs about gay marriage. Wow. We re stunned on many levels. First,
that a judge would actually suggest a contestant say what the judges want to hear, not what she really
believes (Augusta Chronicle). This refers to judges that want to hear the things they believe in. If the
contestant has the same beliefs and view as the judge they will be scored higher. Also Perez Hilton
stated on the Today show that Carrie Prejean should have left her politics and religion out because
Miss USA represents all Americans (Boston.com). If Miss California left her politics and religion out
of this how else would she have stated her point without people knowing where she was coming from?

Plato s View On Morality And Justice
Plato s Republic proposes a number of intriguing theories, ranging from his contemporary view of
ethics to political idealism. It is because of Plato s emerging interpretations that philosophers still refer
to Plato s definitions of moral philosophy as a standard. Plato s possibly most argued concept could be
said to be the analogy between city and soul in Book IV, partially due to his expansive analysis of
justice and the role justice plays in an ideal city, which has some key flaws. Despite these flawed
assumptions that my essay will point out, Plato s exposition on ethics is still relevant for scholars and
academics to study, due to his interpretive view on morality and justice.
1.
Socrates attempts to formulate a definition of the word, moderation, to investigate how the virtue of
moderation comes into play with the human soul. Socrate s elucidates how moderation is often
perceived as the mastery of certain kinds of pleasures and desires, and explore how the controller of
the weak and strong are both the same person. Consequently Socrates ridicules the word, self control.
Just as Thrasymachus argues in Book I that justice is, the advantage of the stronger, and whether the
people who are actually ruling are those best suited to rule, Plato s argument also seems to revolve
around this concept, as the reader questions whether there is a part of the soul which is naturally suited
to rule. To further consider this notion, Socrates discusses how a master of

Panic Disorder Research Paper
Exploring Panic Disorder
Everyone has experienced moments of severe anxiety and panic in their lives. Stressful situations can
throw our minds into turmoil, causing extreme negative impacts on our bodies. However, there are
people who suffer from moments like these far more often than the average person. These people also
experience panic in situations that would not seem very stressful to others. This type of recurrent,
extreme panic episode is called panic disorder, and it falls under anxiety disorders, a broader category
of mental health issues.
An article by McGrandles and Duffy (2012) describes characteristics of panic disorder as including
recurrent panic attacks that occur suddenly and without warning. These can cause persistent ... Show

This should be the first action taken to attempt to control and treat the disorder. However, in more
severe cases, this simple technique is not enough. Psychological therapy involved in treating panic
disorder focuses on helping the patient modify behaviors and responses to situations that will
ultimately reduce feelings of panic. These types of treatment can involve many sessions with a mental
health professional in order to be successful. For example, McGrandles and Duffy (2012) state there is
a large body of research supporting the use of cognitive behavioral therapy across the spectrum of
anxiety disorders and psychological interventions such as CBT tend to be considered safer than drug
treatments (p. 5). In the event that psychotherapy is not single handedly successful, pharmacological
therapy can come into play. Certain medications can be taken by the patient to help reduce the severity
and frequency of panic attacks. At present there are several different types of drugs which could be
prescribed for the treatment of anxiety such as anti depressants, benzodiazepines and beta blockers
(McGrandles Duffy, p. 6). In the event that medication therapy is used, psychological therapy should
also continue to be used in conjunction. The patient and doctor must work together in order to
determine the best

If we ask why our social evolution has become so maladaptive, we come immediately upon the key
influence of mass advertising. From an early age, we are bombarded by powerful imagery, deployed
through a hypnotic medium, television, that bypasses conscious filters to directly influence our
subconscious mind. The vivid imagery of television and movies create a seamless virtual reality that
programs our collective nervous system. From America to China, consumerism has become an
organizing principle for billions of peoples lives.
Zen Buddhist philosopher David R. Loy states:
Consumerism requires and develops a sense of our own impoverishment. By manipulating the
gnawing sense of lack that haunts our insecure sense of self, the attention economy insinuates its basic
message deep into our awareness: the solution to any discomfort we might have is consumption.
Needless to say, this all pervasive conditioning is incompatible with the liberative path of Buddhism.
Consumption has replaced religion and citizenship as the way we participate in society. It is one of 4
Megaphenomena that have spiked in intensity over the last century, combining to create
unprecedented danger for the biosphere. Population growth, carbon gas emissions and species
extinctions are the other three megaphenomena.
Fossil fuels will be exhausted within this century. The production

  • 2. Free Trade Agreement Essay The Commonwealth of Independent States Free Trade Agreement (CISFTA) is an agreement between Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Moldova. Five of the CISFTA participants, all except Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Moldova are also members of the Eurasian Economic Union comprising a single economic market. The agreement was signed on October 18, 2011, by eight Commonwealth of Independent States nations. The 2011 CISFTA comes into effect after the ratification of three participants and will be comprehensive across agricultural, fishery, and forestry goods, except for maintaining import and export rules and regulations on sugar and several other products. The early 1990s saw some very radical changes in global ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The agreement is comprehensive and involves agriculture, fishery, and forestry goods, apart from maintaining import duties on sugar and export duties on several products. For Russia, the Agreement is a complex balance of political and economic costs and benefits, exposing Russia s agriculture to greater competition from the other nations, but allowing it to gain greater geopolitical and economic influence in the region. The agreement will go into effect 30 days after the first three endorsements. The Speakers of Ukraine s parliament and the upper branch of the Russian parliament suggested on November 30, 2011, that all CIS members should sanction the FTA in only one day. On December 9, 2011, Russia s First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov stated that CIS countries were getting ready to endorse the 2011 CISFTA. Except for Russia, there was little or no progress on approval in the rest the member states, with Belarus being the only other country so far signaling likely ratification of the agreement in the 2012 spring session of the parliament. The CISFTA establishes that World Trade Organization s rules will apply to government procurement, customs transit of goods, application of special safeguard, anti dumping and countervailing measures, technical barriers to trade, as well as provision of subsidies and other measures applied in trade between its signees. Parties to the trade agreement cannot apply additional trade barriers, except for those that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cloning Bad Is cloning bad or good for us? According to NIH website, it states there are three different types of artificial cloning: gene cloning, reproductive cloning and therapeutic cloning. In our biology textbook it states that cloning makes an identical copy of a gene. Gene cloning replicates genes and DNA segments. Reproductive cloning makes a duplication of an animal. Therapeutic cloning makes embryonic stem cells to help produce tissues to restore damaged or diseased tissues. I believe that cloning technology can help resolve many things, we would be able to learn and develop more things that could help the world. An example of reproductive cloning is Dolly the sheep. She was the first mammal to be cloned from an adult cell, which is much more difficult to clone from. She lived to be only 6 years old due to arthritis. They took an udder cell from a six year old Finn Dorset white sheep. They changed the growth medium to keep the udder cell alive but it stopped them from expanding. According to the article Cloning Dolly The Sheep ,they injected the cell into an unfertilised egg cell and made the cells fuse by using electrical pulses. Therefore, they moved the DNA of the donor animal s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the website Greengarage, it stated the artificial interference is wrong and can lead to a domino effect, other attributes of life could be altered and have a negative result. This shows that cloning could have a domino effect in nature, if we change one thing it could change everything; the results it could be bad. Furthermore it states human DNA can be contaminated, and the chances of success are very rare. This shows that many things could go wrong during cloning and we don t know if we would be able to solve the problem. Thus, cloning also has disadvantages like interfering with nature and resulting in many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis OfThe Monkey s Pockets, And The Masque Of Red Death As stated so eloquently by Rascal Flatts in their hit song Life is a Highway , Life is a highway and I wanna ride it all night long. life is a never ending cycle of riding forward in life and facing the truths that face people along the way. To, quote, Ride it all night long, is to face the realities of life and revel in the truths it gives one until their death. However, when someone tries to hide from what is truly in front of them, disastrous consequences can occur. In the short stories The Monkey s Paw, by W.W. Jacobs, Contents of a Dead Man s Pockets, by Jack Finney, and The Masque of Red Death, by Edgar Allen Poe, there is one common theme that ties them together. Despite the fact the these stories are all very far apart, ranging in time periods, characters and styles of storytelling, there is still the theme connecting them. The one common theme that connects these stories is one must not hide from reality, but face their own problems, less they face dire consequences. First of all, there was the story, The Monkey s Paw, by W.W. Jacobs. The Whites were the perfect family, a father, mother, and son. The did not have much, but they were content with their lives. They accepted the reality they were in. That did not last. One day they received a gift from a friend, the Sergeant Major, that could bend reality. Or at least, it seemed to. The gift was a paw, said to grant three wishes. As stated in the story, It had a spell put on it by an old ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Australian Platypus Research Paper My choice of animal that I personally chose to represent this great nation as our national symbol is the Australian Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus). This beautiful mammal is the quintessential American animal. The reasons I believe the Australian Platypus (informally referred to as the platypus) should be our national symbol are found in the essence of this great nation; they are family oriented, they are a hodgepodge similar to that of our nation s culture, and the platypus is honorable and noble, just like America. The Platypus is family oriented. The adult platypus are seen as great protectors and overseers of their children and will go as far as to protect them from other cannibalistic platypuses. • 6. Cheating Is Not A New Conversation Cheating is not a new conversation when it comes to sports. There are several forms of cheating such as shaving points, using performance enhancement drugs, or sports betting. The formal definition of cheating is to act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or examination, (Merriam Webster dictionary). When it comes to college sports, it is easy for a player to be persuaded to shave a few points for money. A typical question asked about sports is what happens if a team or player is caught cheating? Cheating is widespread it just depends on if the team or player gets caught. Recent examples of the cheating culture in sport includes Bill Belichick, coach of the New England Patriots, directing his staff to videotape the defensive signals of the New York Jets and athletes in 10 sports at Florida State University cheating on their academic work, (Lumpkin, 2011, p. 2). With cheating being so widespread, the real reason to play sports seems to be lost in all the chaos of winning. Cheating in sports is such an intriguing topic. Personally, this topic is interesting to me because sports are a part of my life and whenever someone cheats just to win, I always wonder why they would do such a thing. I understand that cheating happens in every level of sport. But what if everyone is cheating? These questions are the reasons this topic is important to me. In addition, how will we remember these athletes if they are labeled cheaters for the rest of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Exploration of Bondage in Middle Passage Essay Bondage can be defined as a state of subjection to a force, power, or influence or the state of being under the control of another person. Throughout the novel Middle Passage, written by Charles Johnson, bondage is a reoccurring theme. The characters in the novel are bonded physically, emotionally, or psychologically. Some characters are bonded and can not escape their bondage. Others choose to place themselves in the situations. • 8. Renewable Resources For Solar Energy Solar Energy is something that the entire world relies on every day. Without energy, the earth would be dark, and nothing will be able to operate. Lately, there has been many concerns with the various types of resources that are used to generate energy. Many resources that are used are non renewable resource. This means that the resources such as oil and coal are not grown or produced, they are found in regions in specific sections of the world. These resources are also recognized as fossil fuels. Researchers have been working for numerous years to find new ways to generate energy without using these resources that cause issues for the environment. By using renewable sources such as the sun, new ways to create energy have developed. Solar energy is energy that is created by the sunshine. This sort of energy that derives from the sun can create electricity in households. With new emerging technology, solar energy can perform different types of energy for diverse uses such as heating water or generate electricity for a home. This alternative energy that goes beyond fossil fuels can be extremely beneficial for the environment; However, there might be some downfalls for a consumer if they needed to use solar energy to provide electricity. The sun has been playing a very significant role for earth and humans. It has been the producer of light and without it several things would not exist. • 9. Acute Care Of Pelvic Fractures Abstract Background: Pelvic fractures usually occur within major crash high energy scenes, in which urgent multidisciplinary input is needed (Giannoudis et al., 2007). Acute care of pelvic fractures has improved in the past ten years yet there are still no formal guidelines or evidence for rehabilitation of these types of fractures. Patients have long periods of non weight bearing which can cause problems such as muscle wastage. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) has been proven to minimise muscle loss and enhance recovery (Gondin et al., 2005). However, this has not been determined within this patient group before. Objective: The primary objective of this study was to determine if the application of NMES is feasible in this patient group. In addition, whether it improves hip abductor and adductor peak torque in pelvic fracture rehabilitation compared to a placebo group. Methods: Seven patients with surgically fixed pelvic fractures were randomly allocated into two groups at six weeks post fracture. The treatment group completed six weeks of daily NMES. The placebo group completed six weeks of daily transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). The percentage peak torque in the operated limb was measured at 12 weeks using a HUMAC strength assessment machine using the non operated limb as a baseline. Results: No significant difference was found between percentage peak torque difference for operated and non operated limbs with hip abduction and adduction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today myth has become one of the most prominent terms in contemporary literature analysis. It was Northrop Frye, one of the most influential myth critics (others including Robert Graves, Francis Fersusson, Richard Chase, Philip Wheelwright), who discovered certain formulas in the word order. Now, all that sets a text in relationship, whether obvious or concealed, with other texts is denoted by Genette as transtextuality (1). As a study of relationships, which link a text with the transtextual network out of which it produces its meaning, it can be further divided into five more specific subcategories: 1. intertextuality  a relationship of copresence between two texts or among several texts , that is, the actual presence of one text within the other (Genette 1,2), as we see in the case of quotations, allusions and plagiarism. 2. paratextuality  a relationship between the text and all the extra textual writings and materials (peritexts and epitexts), which surround the text and help to direct and control the reader s reception of it, but themselves remain outside. 3. metatextuality  a relationship between the text and other texts, upon which it serves as an explicit or implicit commentary. 4. hypertextuality  a relationship uniting a text (Text B) and another text(Text A), upon which the previous one is grafted in a way that is not that of a commentary (Genette 5) (here the Text A is called the hypotext and the Text B the hypertext). 5. archytextuality  a relationship between the text and the different modes, genres and theme that it refers or belongs to. It follows a territorial principle that regions are assigned to be responsible for similar task. For instance, province A is responsible for agricultural and steel ministry, which is same for the other provinces such as B and C. They can be seen as substitute for each other because they produce competitive goods. The administrative coordination is decentralized in M form, meaning that planning in individual level is important. As these regions need to make production decisions for their ministries, the autonomy of them is quite high, and they have the right to control and allocate recourses within their jurisdiction. Regional competition can already serve as incentive scheme for local officials. For U form organizations, as regions are different from each other, they react differently towards industrial shocks. So, this provides an excuse for laggard that it is due to the differentiation regional conditions. With completely different information structures, there is no incentive for local officials to work hard under the U form. Seeing how M form and U form organizations can affect information structures, as a result determining incentives of local officials, the Maskin, Qian and Xu model can be used to prove it. Rivera, it is about a young boy named Ricky Coronado. His mom is a very strong willed and encouraging mother, and he lost his father when he was still young. So without a father figure there to help him through life he is questioning himself about his life. Which probably lead to why he is so pessimistic and negative. Without a father image to help you and support you, it will be hard to understand what some things are in life. For example, when Ricky s mom is telling him how come he isn t like other boys, The fuse had finally burned down to ignite a cache of collective feelings and confused memories. Because they have real fathers! I exploded. And everybody in their family is the same age. They stick together! (Rivera 26). My experience at the camp was a memorable one, since I met a young boy with ADHD. Though it was difficult to get his attention, his condition made me more aware and got me to communicate in a more innovate way. By talking about a common interest of ours, the sport of soccer, I was not telling him instructions or asking him for his attention, but instead giving him mine. Besides my volunteering at the summer camp, I have been a part of many activities, such as the VolunTEEN program and the Ridge Meadows Homeshow, all throughout high school and the experiences have shaped who I am today. Currently in my third year, I am volunteering at my local hospital and residential home, Baillie House, through the VolunTEEN program as Team Leader. Being a part of the program has opened me to a new perspective on health. I have learned to socially adapt and build strong bonds, as well as initiate ways to help others. O Pioneers! is a novel by Cather about how Alexandra Bergson connects to the land and others and how Emil Bergeson s romance with Marie Shabata evolves. Both Wharton and Cather view friendship as a means to support and comfort. However, Wharton also sees friendship as a way to achieve certain things while Cather perceives friendship as a way to combat loneliness. For both Wharton and Cather, friendship serves as a vehicle for support and comfort. Although Mrs. Trenor tends to take advantage of Lily, Mrs. Trenor gives Lily advice on how to find a spouse. Mrs. Trenor advises Lily, Don t wear your scarlet crêpe de chine for dinner, and don t smoke if you can help it, Lily dear! [The House of Mirth 45] ... Finally I look to my right at my final judge, he simply winks at me. I close my eyes and count to three. It s finally time to begin; this is my time. These next three minutes everyone has to listen to me and my opinion. I open my mouth, but the only thought going through my head is, why? Why am I doing this? Why am I here? Why did I make this mistake? It was the first day of English class and the teacher asked, who here has ever given a class presentation before? I looked around hoping, praying, that someone else is like me. However fate was not on my side. Every hand in the class was proudly raised high and I was all alone on my little island of fear. The teacher looked directly at me and asked why I had not ever done a presentation. I m a clicker, I mumbled, it was barely audible but the teacher heard it and his face softened. Well Mr. Peschansky it s time you become a talker. A psychological study done in the early 70 s found that people are more afraid of public speaking then of death. This is especially true of male characters whose qualities are often shaped around anger and aggression. We can see individuals across genres shown with repeated motivations, actions, and appearances. These depictions delve even further into stereotyping when we begin to examine characters who are also people of color. The media often depicts people of color in tropes based on their racial and ethnic identities, and these tropes are usually offensive and demeaning. People of color are usually shown in two ways; more aggressive and violent than the white hero, or less aggressive and violent without imposing a physical threat. The x values represent the independent variable, which is the # of pennies, while the y values represent the dependent variable, force (N). Initially, 1 dime was added to the cup, followed by the addition of 1 penny, then 1 nickel, and finally 1 quarter. The idea was to add the coins in order from the lightest coin in weight (dime) to the heaviest (quarter) in order to get an upward trend line. When 1 dime was added to the cup, the force was 0.03 N, however, when a penny was added to the cup, the force was increased to a total of 0.05 N. This represented only a 0.02 N change when the penny was added. This information is inferring that a dime weighs more than a penny, however, this is not true. An error that may have occurred could be that the penny was added before the dime was added. Therefore, the penny would have weighed 0.3 N and the dime would have weighed 0.2 N. However, the information in Table 3 does demonstrate that the nickel weighs less than the quarter, but more than the penny and dime, giving an upward trend line. The slope of the line passing through points (1,0.03) and (4,0.2) is 0.056 N. Therefore, 0.056 N is the average weight of the coins. The x values represent the # of coins, the y values represent the force (N), and the y intercept value is 0. Before this research, knowledge about the vesicle transportation system that eukaryotic cells utilized was essentially limited to what could be observed, including its various tasks and actions and its huge significance in cell survival. The question that remained unanswered, however; was exactly how this system was able to perform and control its tasks with such efficiency and precision throughout the cell body and beyond. This sophisticated intracellular setup has understandingly raised questions about its mechanics and remained an enigma until the three Nobel Laureates presented their discoveries. Randy Schekman was able to identify the genes that controlled vesicle trafficking through the use of yeast cells and it s genetics as a model. In order to identify which genes participate in vesicle transportation, Schekman used genetic screening, which is a process where mutant organisms are created and isolated based on the desired phenotype to determine the presence of a gene associated with a disorder. Through this genetic screening, Randy Schekman observed mutated yeast cells and isolated those with flawed vesicle transport systems. He observed that these cells experienced congestion of vesicles in certain areas of the cell, specifically in the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi complex and the cell surface. Therefore he was able to accredit control of vesicle trafficking to the twenty three specific genes he later identified and classified in relationship to the location of the vesicle blocks. James Rothman discovered how vesicles are able to fuse with its target membrane when transporting molecules by a protein complex. • 31. Types Of Investments And Bonds Introduction This paper will examine two basic types of investments; stock and bonds, from an investor s perspective highlighting the advantages and disadvantages between common stock (equity) and corporate bonds (debt). Webster Dictionary defines investment as the outlay of money usually for income or profit usually in a tangible asset such as property . With both stocks and bonds, the only thing tangible is a simple piece of paper, a certificate. On the surface, these certificates may seem the same, however there is a very important fundamental difference. Owning a stock certificate is evidence of being a shareholder; hence money is exchanged for a portion of ownership in a company. A bond certificate, on the other hand, represents a contract and evidence of giving a loan to a company. Stocks are considered equity investments and bonds debt investments. This key difference brings its own set of pros and cons to each of these types of investment and affects their level of risk and return. The Advantages of Stocks Corporations issue both stocks and bonds to raise capital to purchase land, equipment, building, or even pay off debt. However, there are several advantages to investors to purchase a stock in a corporation over bonds. First, when you purchase a share of stock you essentially become a part owner in the company. With this ownership comes special privileges, such as the right to vote on who sits on the board of directors and on matters that could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The FTO does not actually train new officers in the field as the title implies. Consequently, the detriments imposed by the agency s lack of training officers extends beyond the patrol division. The native tribes of the Great Plains and the Eastern Woodlands have surprisingly different adaptions and responses to their expansions by settlers; not only in their cultures, but in their subsistence, warfare, peacemaking, and gender roles as well. Both tribes were forced to adapt and change due to the overtaking on the European settlers, but both managed to do it in different ways. First, I will look at the tribes of the Great Plains. These nomadic tribes survived on hunting, and the great American Buffalo was their main source of food. These massive animals were the main source for many items the Plains tribes made from their flesh, hide and bones, such as foods, cups, decorations, tools, knives, and clothing. The tribes followed the seasonal grazing and migration of buffalo in order to maintain their diet and subsistence throughout the year. The Plains Indians lived in tipis because they were easily disassembled and allowed the nomadic life of following game. When horses from the Spanish were finally obtained, the Plains tribes rapidly joined them into their daily lives. The natives began to acquire these horses in the 17th century by trading or stealing them from the Spanish colonists in, what is now, New Mexico. The tribes of the Great Plains were not particularly violent when the Spanish first invaded, three factors led to the growing importance of warfare in Plains culture. • 40. The Key Dimensions Of Contracts Essay Introduction The pre eminent procedural character of a contract is that there are essential elements that must be present for it to be legally binding. Australian contract law is largely attributable to the common law principles albeit various statutes have blossomed to supplement the substance of common law and doctrines of equity. The law of Contract pervades the day to day social and economic activities that have been accentuated by a precipitously burgeoning firmament of electronic commerce. At the outset, this has significantly given rise to enormous complexities within the panoply of contract law. Ideally, there are various forms of contract that attract legal attention. It is apt to early state that this paper seeks, for all intents and purposes to explore the key dimensions of contracts by electronic means. Electronic Contracts Contracts by electronic means are commonly referred to paperless contracts, figuratively. They can be defined as agreements created in digital form without the traditional use of a pen and paper. The dividing line between electronic contracts and the traditional form of contract is very thin. They are arguably governed by the general rules of offer and acceptance applicable in contract law and accepted both internationally and by Australian law. Conversely, a contract formed electronically is treated like a paper agreement and is legally valid if the contract can easily be retrieved for future references after the execution and the parties ... Witchcraft In Peter Morton s The Trials Of Tempel Anneke Peter Morton in The Trials of Tempel Anneke discusses different types of magic including high magic, used by those educated, such as alchemy, and low magic including spells and charms. It is of the popular belief that maleficium alone would not have caused many witch trials in Europe, rather it was due to the belief of a link between maleficium and diabolism which requires a pact with the Devil (Morton, 2006). Magic was not uncommon in early modern Europe and was accepted in communities. Fear of magic linked to the Devil encouraged fear of low magic and accusations of witchcraft. The Carolina was developed by the medieval church from Roman origins (Morton, 2006, XXX). Investigations required testimony from at least two reliable witnesses and then an interrogation of the accused (Morton, 2006). Stages of the Carolina include the initiation of an investigation, the collection of testimonies, and most importantly two confessions, one under torture if required and one without torture (Morton, 2006). While in the beginning, Tempel Anneke denied the use of witchcraft and a pact made with the Devil, she eventually gave the court both confessions. Folio 28 contains the first confession under torture where Anneke confesses to learning sorcery, making a pact with the Evil Enemy who came as a middle sized man, that is, the average man, who had black hair and wore a black coat, and fornicating with the Devil (Morton, 2006, p.103). The confession received that was not under torture is discussed in Folio 29. In Folio 29 Anneke repeats the confession she gave under torture while also attempting to repent her sins (Morton, 2006). Both poets differ in their presentation of traditional gender roles and sexuality. This is not subverting the traditional Elizabethan stereotype of women. • 48. Plato s View On Morality And Justice Plato s Republic proposes a number of intriguing theories, ranging from his contemporary view of ethics to political idealism. It is because of Plato s emerging interpretations that philosophers still refer to Plato s definitions of moral philosophy as a standard. Plato s possibly most argued concept could be said to be the analogy between city and soul in Book IV, partially due to his expansive analysis of justice and the role justice plays in an ideal city, which has some key flaws. Despite these flawed assumptions that my essay will point out, Plato s exposition on ethics is still relevant for scholars and academics to study, due to his interpretive view on morality and justice. 1. Socrates attempts to formulate a definition of the word, moderation, to investigate how the virtue of moderation comes into play with the human soul. Socrate s elucidates how moderation is often perceived as the mastery of certain kinds of pleasures and desires, and explore how the controller of the weak and strong are both the same person. Consequently Socrates ridicules the word, self control. Just as Thrasymachus argues in Book I that justice is, the advantage of the stronger, and whether the people who are actually ruling are those best suited to rule, Plato s argument also seems to revolve around this concept, as the reader questions whether there is a part of the soul which is naturally suited to rule. To further consider this notion, Socrates discusses how a master of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
