An introduction to ticks

The tick is not an insect but is part of the arachnid family.
Ticks are divided into two main families, soft ticks (Argasidae) and hard ticks (Ixodidae). The
scientific name of the tick that I am studying is Ixodes Canisuga, it has a sclerotizeddorsal plate
(scutum), an oval or pair shaped outline, and their mouthparts are visible from the dorsal view.

There are three stages in the development of ticks;
1. Lava
2. Nymph
3. Adult female
[IMAGE]The life cycle takes 3 to six years to complete, with each stage taking at least one year.
Blood feeding occurs once in each stage.
The diagram to the right shows the life cycle of a tick.
Larvae have six legs, climb the vegetation and wait for a passing host, usually a mouse. There they
feed for 2 3 days and they increase their weight 10 20 times. Thy then drop off into the vegetation and
continue to grow.
After several months, the lava molts to an 8 legged nymph of around 2mm.
A few months later the nymph molts again into the final stage of tick development; the adult. The
adult female can only feed successfully on larger animals such as dogs, deer sheep and cows. When it
feeds it can grow to 150 times its original weight. The immature stages of the tick can paratize almost
any warm blooded animal.
[IMAGE]The picture to the left is of a male and female tick mating.
Whilst mating, the female continues to feed, engorging herself so that she can produce well nourished
eggs. The males feed every so often to stay alive. When the female is ready to lay her eggs, she drops
of the host lays her eggs and dies.

Cons Of Animal Cloning
A. According to Kathleen R. Brooks and Jayson L. Lusk (2011) Animal cloning is a process in which
scientists can copy the genetic or inherited traits of an animal.
1. Clones are like identical twins only born at different times. Similar to in vitro fertilization, cloned
animals begin in a laboratory, but then are born to surrogate mothers.
a) A similar survey by the Pew Initiative on Food and Biotechnology in 2004 reported that about 65%
of consumers had heard about animal cloning.
2. Animal cloning is a problem that many of us unknowingly approve of every day. Hundreds of
innocent animals are dying and suffering due to animal cloning experiments.
Transition: Next, I will be going in depth on the risks/cons of animal cloning.
B. Can I get a show of hands of every one that has heard of the famous sheep that went by the name
Dolly?
1. Well, for all of you that haven t according to (CNN) Dolly the Sheep, was the world s first cloned
mammal. Dolly had a remarkable life spans (for a clone) of 6 years but, due to the discovery of

Affairs, 14(1), 111 119.)
Transition: So far, you have learned about how animal cloning affect the animal health, biodiversity,
and the quality of the livestock. Now let me tell you a little bit on what problem we came across when
persuading people that animal cloning is bad.
H. Human are more important than animal.
1. Animal are just like human; they have feeling like us. Plus, without animal on this earth the
biodiversity would be unbalance and that it would interfered with the nature evolution.

Afro-Brazilian Self-Identity in Brazil Essay
Over the past several decades there has been an increase, in Brazil, of people whom self identify as
being black or Afro Brazilian. What sparked the rise in these identities in Brazil? Was it possible
material and intellectual gains or, sparked from activism, or from other possible factors. The black
movement and affirmation of black identity came about much later in Brazil than in other countries
such as the United States. In my opinion the most important factors for the rise in these identities are
the material gains from the Quilombo Clause, the effects of affirmative action and quotas, as well as
social activism. One important reason for the increase in people identifying as black in Brazil is the
Quilombo Clause in the 1988 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this community many, who did not prior, began to identify as black in order to qualify for the
Quilombo clause and get the material gain of land. Another factor that has led to the increase in people
identifying as black is affirmative action and the quota system. In the early 2000s Brazilian
government started to introduce affirmative action with a quota system. Quotas were added for
university admissions, government jobs, film and media, among other things. Affirmative action
policies also favored places that gave fair employment to blacks (Htun). The quota systems allow
blacks to have more opportunities for jobs and other intellectual gains. These gains are an incentive
for people, whom may not have prior, to begin to self identify as black in order to qualify for them. An
example of the quota system in use are the students in Brazil deciding whether or not to apply for the
university entrance exam under the quota system in the Wide Angle segment Brazil in Black and
White . In this segment they follow five kids who are taking the entrance exam. Two of these kids
decide to apply under the quota system (Wide Angle). One of these kids is a girl who is lighter skinned
and even though she is lighter she is applying under the quota system because it would increase her
chances of getting in. Both of the girls who decide to apply under the quota system do it because it

Classification Systems For Offenders Essay
Over the last few decades classification systems for offenders have been used for a variety of
organizational purposes. Over time these classification systems have evolved, not only as a whole in
the criminal justice system, but also varying between different organizations. Classification systems
that create models based on the risks and needs of offenders are most popular. Throughout the years
these models and the purposes for their use have been in a state of change, as well as the way their
effectiveness is gaged. One of the most commonly used classification systems for offenders is the
combination of risk assessment and need assessment. The combination of these two systems of
classification is rather new. The earliest types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second generation was characterized by the custody classification risks and parolees being
classified on their risk of reoffending based on their custody classification. These early models were
administered routinely but scores rarely changed because the information in the assessment was static
and did not change over time (Van Voorhis, et al., 2009). Such information as the severity of prior
convictions, and prior felonies did not change between assessments and led to an overly simple
classification system that did not offer any options for treatment or change within offender behavior.
Additionally, it was proven that the earliest risk assessment models were not accurate in dealing with
female offenders because the history of women offenders is not as indicative of future behavior as it is
with male offenders (Van Voorhis et al., 2008). While the original risk assessment models were helpful
in achieving a basic glance at offender behavior risks, it lacked the quality assessment tools needed to
not only determine whether an offender was going to be a danger while institutionalized or the
community once paroled, but to fully offer options for rehabilitation. More recently, the combination
of risk/needs assessments have changed the course of classification models. No longer are risks
assessments conducted solely for the institutionalized but also are used to foresee new transgressions
with needs that are similarly elements of offender

Affordable Home Building
Research Question: Why are brand new homes being built but not affordable? Introduction: My family
was never the richest, always looking for help in many different ways. A struggle was my mom trying
to take care of three children all on her own, ensuring there was a roof over our heads, food in our
stomach and clothes on our backs. We have moved many times since I was about four years old, but
never did I think about how hard it was to find a new home each time. Although my mother was able

low income families to help pay the rent), it is still very tough to find a home which the voucher

Currently Boston has about 28,400 low income households who need a home that is affordable to their

them into their own homes but the sooner the better.

which can not only help the community come together but also earn the money to build homes that are

Abstract
The comparison is based on Rosenberg s study of children s self descriptions. A comparison was made
between two participants, Annie aged 8 and Kirsty aged 16 using a semi structured interview to find
out whether there was a difference in self descriptions at different ages. The results were analysed
using qualitative analysis and it was found that younger children give more physical self descriptions
and older children give more self descriptions in terms of inner feelings. This coincides with previous

the research and were told why the research is being carried out in order to comply with ethical
guidelines. The participants were then instructed to write 10 I statements about themselves to answer
the question who am I? on the category analysis form. The participants were told that there are no
right or wrong answers and that they can write as much or as little as they would like about
themselves. (A transcript of the instructions can be found in Appendix 3). The recordings were

statements the recording equipment was turned back on and the interviewer asked the participants
questions relating to what they had written. The style in which the interviewer asked questions was
based on Rosenberg s study of self descriptions. These included questions regarding feelings of pride
and shame, their ideas of distinctiveness as unique individuals, what kind of person they would like to

Reflection In My Life
Over the course of this semester me and our group success have participated in a variety of activities
coordinated by the Counselor Mrs. Warren which touch on topics oriented around college, careers, and
ourselves as people. These activities taught us life skills that we can apply in our life. For example,
some of the activities included learning to do or determine our SMART goals, long term goals,
skills/strengths, values and making decisions based on them, pathways to our potential
career/education. Therefore, what we learned as a group with Mrs. Warren was how to apply those life
skills taught in everyday life, How we would reach point A to point B, and learn more about ourselves
as people.
Throughout my life I have always felt like I knew myself, but until recently I have never, truly known
myself. These traits are one of my utmost important values to me in the sense that they are what I do
my best to live by them. My five main values are creativity, compassion, empathy, love, and wisdom. I
value creativity since through that I am able to express myself. Compassion is important to me being
that I cannot be a bystander and forsake the people suffering or the guilt would eat me alive, knowing
I could have done something to help. Most of my life I have empathized with people, putting myself

Olaudah Equiano Biography
Olaudah Equiano, also known by the name of Gustavus Vassa which was given to him by his master
on a slave ship, was born in the Eboe province of Africa in 1775 1776. Eboe was a part of the
kingdom of Benin which is now present day Nigeria. Equiano, like many others, lived in a village and
was kidnapped and sold into slavery. From the chains of enslavement to the freedom in London, he
believed that he and his countrymen deserved freedom and equality. Religion would have a huge
impact on Equiano s life as he converted to Christianity after having many near death experiences on
his voyages around the world. He also used religion to argue his case against slavery as he became
involved in the abolitionist movement in London in the late 18th century. Later in life, Equiano would
begin writing his autobiography The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or
Gustavus Vassa, the African, Written by Himself and was published in 1789. The book would relive
Equiano s life in Eboe, he and his sister s capture and enslavement, the Middle Passage and the
horrors of slavery, his travels, and work as an abolitionist.
Olaudah Equiano begins his autobiography by claiming that he is neither a saint, hero, or tyrant, but
instead is favored by Heaven, which he gives credit for the blessings he has received in his life.
Equiano also hopes that his autobiography will help his enslaved countrymen and other peoples of
African descent. His story begins in Eboe, present day Nigeria.

The main purpose of this visit was to cut and burn the buckthorn trees which have dominated the
grassland of this forest preserve. Similar tools like the other visits were used. The buckthorn trees in
this area were mostly young with population of high density in certain areas and the range of their
occupied area was from entrance of the forest up to one quarter of the area at the end of the savanna.
The buckthorns were cut and by aligning them on the fire place against the direction of the wind then
were burnt. During our visit we noticed that unlike the Bunker Hill Savanna forest preserve we were
first greeted by the grassland then the forest. In the middle of the savanna we saw a buck or a male
deer grazing on the grass found over there. In addition, we were able to observe a species of hawk that
was rarely seen close up. It had a golden brownish color and was sitting in the nearby tree observing
the activities that were done in the forest. After the required buckthorn trees were cut and burnt,
herbicide was sprayed on their remaining parts on the ground. Next seeds of some of the native plants
of that area were dispersed over the area where the buckthorn trees have previously occupied. The
purpose of dispersing the seeds of the area was to increase the population of the native species which

Nursing Constraints
Constraints are anything that limit or discourage certain movements at the same time they permit or
encourage other movements or shape the movement(s). 1 In light of that, when assessing the
constraints that may exist for this female patient there are three constraints that she will encounter:
individual constraints, environmental constraints, and task constraints. First, the individual constraints
exist within the patient herself (her own body). These constraints are related to her structure
(anatomical physiology, i.e. her height, weight, muscle mass, body size, etc.) and her function (her
behavior, attention, motivation). These constraints are all dependent on the patient herself and how she
is able to operate. In this case the patient has some stability and weakness issues of the ankle joint of
the involved limb. This will present a problem because she feels her ankle giving way when she plays
sports. This means her ankle muscles are weakened and unable to support her body weight while
running, jumping, and sharp agility movements when playing volleyball, making her prone to re
injury. If she re injures her ankle again she may face functional constraints in being sad or depressed

Brief Summary Of Ishmael By Daniel Quinn
Summary: In the novel Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, the effects of human activity in the world are
discussed. At the beginning, the narrator reads an ad in a newspaper about a man looking for a student
to teach. The narrator is at first disgusted because he has been searching for a teacher for years and
now he finally finds someone begging for a student. The narrator meets the teacher and is shocked that
it is a gorilla named Ishmael who can telepathically speak to humans. Ishmael and the narrator meet
regularly and Ishmael tells the narrator that humans can be divided into two categories of takers and
leavers. Takers are selfish people that are considered civilized and destroy the earth because believe it
belongs to them, but they do not realize the harmful effects of these actions. Wheres, leavers believe

circus. Ishmael dies of pneumonia before the narrator is able to save him from the circus. Because of
this, he continues the teachings of Ishmael in his honor to aide in the end of the takers and the rise of
the leavers. Message: Throughout the book Quinn develops that takers are greedy people who do not
realize they are destroying the world and will therefore fall in the end. Ishmael s lessons and the myths
that are told throughout the book depict the message that takers are unaware of their actions and
leavers need to rise. Incident: When Ishmael and the narrator first met and bonded over their
fascination with the story of Hitler. I myself never understood why so many people would follow
Hitler s command, but I finally understood when Ishmael explains that it was because Hitler told a
story that stuck with the people. Four environmental

Essay about Stereotyping in Today´s Society
Is every Muslim a terrorist? Do all Mexicans eat jalapeños? Do all elderly people need to surrender
their driver s licenses? These questions represent different examples of stereotyping that are present in
today s society. Stereotyping, a predictable opinion or belief, can be connected to race, ethnicity, or
religious affiliation. We make very different judgments about people we think to be terrorists,
criminals, psychopaths, television stars, hitchhikers, and perverts. Stereotyping could be beneficial
and highly accurate in some cases; however stereotyping most Muslims as terrorists can be misleading
and unfair. Muslim stereotyping is misleading and unfair, yet perhaps highly accurate if the person has

Essay on Hans Zimmer
Hans Zimmer Hans Zimmer was born in Frankfurt, Germany in September 12, 1957. As a child, he
began playing piano since he was three years old. Although he was receiving piano lessons, he quickly
became uninterested after only two weeks of piano lessons. Even more astounding he decided to
become a composer at age six. His father died when he was six and that is when he decided to become
serious about music, because it was his refuge as he quotes, It was my way of calming the demons in
me or at the same time sometimes letting them roar, letting them rip, letting the monster out and
seeing that it wasn t so scary being able to look it in the eye, (International Dictionary of Films and

Wow, if I just carry on writing nice music like this, I can have this moment again.... That s why I did
the exact opposite, scoring for truly offensive projects like The Fan. Just to shake myself out of the
desire for that Oscar experience. When he created the score for A Crimson Tide, he used a large choir

action and suspense. Despite his choice to take the path less glittered, he still received recognition for
A Crimson Tide. He won a Grammy for the score, and received another Academy Award nomination
for The Preacher s Wife. That same year, the performing rights organization BMI presented him with
its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award before Zimmer was 40 years old, which is a great

The Controversy Over Gun Control
In the past few years Gun control has become a hot topic throughout America. With all the shootings
going around the United States, we are faced with controversies over gun control. Americans believe
that their government is going to do whatever is best for them, but is that true when they are trying to
strip us of our rights that were created for us over 300 years ago. Our country has been thriving with
the amendments and laws set before us, and today we are trying to change them. But by just changing
a few laws is that really going to stop a criminal from getting what they wanted, there criminals for a
reason. Our second amendment gives us the right to bear arms and protect our selves from enemies
foreign and domestic. This is the foundation of country; we fight to keep the right that were given to
us, so that we can protect our families, our country, and our freedom. America has always prided it
self on being the land of the free , but with freedom comes sacrifices. However, most Americans do
not see the significance of freedom, because we are sitting on our couches living normal lives, and on
the other hand we have those individuals that joined the armed forces to keep us a safe and protect our
freedom. Lawrence Hunter stated that The Founders understood that the right to own and bear laws is
as fundamental and as essential to maintaining liberty... With liberty comes freedom and the right to
bear arms, how would the solders feel if they came home and their rights were

The Benefits Of Summer Break
Students often wonder how fun it would be if they had a three week break every nine weeks, as
opposed to one long summer break. Changing summer break into much shorter, but more frequent
breaks would be beneficial for many reasons. Just think, most students lose up to one month of
knowledge over the summer. Although most students could go to a learning camp over the summer,
lower income students cannot afford this as summer break is financially taxing on them. Finally, while
lower income and higher income students may have their differences, all students stay up late over
summer break. Staying up late causes these students to get out of their school routine. It is a wonder

the professors have to work even harder with more kids filling up every class. So students and

other possible break orientations have potential. By splitting summer break into more, but with

Robert Frost
A Snowy Evening with Robert Frost Robert Frost once said, It begins as a lump in the throat, a sense
of wrong, a homesickness, a loneliness. It is never a thought to begin with. It is at best when it is a
tantalizing vagueness. ( Poetry Foundation n.d.). This poem holds a lot of mystery in its meaning
which has a variety of interpretations. John T. Ogilvie who wrote, From Woods to Stars: A pattern of
Imagery in Robert Frost s Poetry interprets this as a poem about the journey through life. James G.
Hepburn who wrote, Robert Frost and His Critics took a different approach. He believes this poem to
be about the aesthetics and moral action. This poem contains a variety of literary devices that not only

As Hepburn says in his article, Robert Frost and His Critics The mood that the poem induces in the
reader nullifies his acceptance of the intention expressed by the traveler. The sum of the reader s
experience of the poem is different from the meaning of the traveler s experience of the woods.
Presumably the traveler goes home to supper, to his duties, and to the rest of his journey through life;
but these things are not the poem. Frost made some comments on the factors mood plays in a poem, ...
the poet s intention is of course a particular mood that won t be satisfied with anything less than its
own fulfillment. (Hepburn 1962). This poem isn t a recreated experience but meant to be an
experience in itself. This poem has some interesting symbolism in it takes us on a journey through a
man s life. When the narrator first stops, instead of questioning himself, he questions what the horse
thinks, My little horse must think it queer (842). By questioning the horse, he is really questioning his
own reasons, which people often do while they make life decisions or everyday decisions. The horse
is also a symbol of time the horse is questioning his stopping and urges him to move on to prevent the
further loss of time (Anonymous). When the narrator s horse shakes his harness bells, he then
becomes a symbol, as John Ciardi thinks, ..order of life that does not understand why a man stops in
the winter middle of nowhere to watch snow come

Character Analysis Of Michael Briody In Empire Rising
Michael Briody, the main character in Empire Rising, was a hardworking man who fought for Great
Britain during World War I and would later fight for the IRA during the Irish Civil War. Having a
history with violence in his past, Briody moves to New York to continue to be an assassin for the IRA
and its cause. Briody s cover up job was working on the Empire State Building which would change
how he felt about fighting for the IRA throughout the book. The Empire State Building gave Briody s
life a purpose and made him want to have a fresh start in a country where nobody knew of him or his
past. Briody falls in love with Grace because of the many things they share in common. Grace was the
final thing Briody needed in his life in order to have a fresh start. Through his love for Grace and
Empire State Building, he redeems himself from his past to attempt to live a normal life.
Working on the Empire State Building became a major influence throughout the book for Briody.
When Briody started working on the building, he did not yet realize how important it will be for him.
As he gets comfortable talking with Grace, he opens up about the fact that he loves the working
environment the building brings. Same as you. Actually, I m truly happy when I m on the job. There s
nothing like it really. (189) This quote further explains how Briody develops his admiration towards
the building. With his admiration comes his personality of being a hard worker. There was a part in the

Without question, all of these things are an essential part of what makes Trader Joe s such a thriving
retailer when much larger chains are struggling to survive. But there s a saying in retail circles that the
last 100 feet are the hardest. Every effort can be made to heighten the efficiency of the supply chain
and get products from the manufacturer to the retailer s back door in the most cost effective way
possible. Yet, if in store execution is shoddy, retailers simply end up shooting themselves in the foot. A
big part of this execution or the last 100 feet at Trader Joe s is its employees, people who like what
they do, go out of their way to help customers, and even engage in some suggestive selling. They are a
major reason for the company s success. After all, few employers particularly in retailing can boast of
having such high levels of employee loyalty, not to mention extremely low turnover.
Compensate workers well The core of this allegiance is a wage and benefits package that is typically
far more competitive than that of most companies in the supermarket industry. Wages may attract high
quality employees, but wages are not necessarily the reason they remain loyal, as any human resources
expert can attest. Employees stay because Trader Joe s has created a culture of success: an

Thomas Malthus And John Stuart Mill Summary
The issue of sustainability is one of the most fundamental and important subjects in economics.
Thomas Malthus bleak evaluation of humanity s prospects in the face of overpopulation heralded a
new age in economics where pessimism became the undisputed ruler of discourse. John Stuart Mill s
efforts to banish this pervasive gloom by appealing to the capabilities and intelligence of his fellow
men is both inspiring and devastatingly effective. In a broader context, the struggle between Thomas
Malthus and John Stuart Mill cannot be viewed as merely a peripheral debate on a singular issue; it is
a battle for the very soul of economic analysis. Before delving into a comparative analysis of these
two brilliant thinkers, it is essential to provide an overview of their differing theories of human nature
and to examine the contexts that shaped their scholarship.
Thomas Malthus lived in a society that venerated population growth as the ultimate source of
prosperity and harmony. Contemporaries of Malthus, such as clergyman William Paley, argued that
the aggregate amount of happiness in a society is almost exactly proportional to the size of its
populace. It therefore comes as no surprise that the noblemen, politicians, and theologians of Malthus
time were greatly distressed by sensational claims that England s population was in severe decline.
The hysteria of this concern was neatly encapsulated by Paley, who unambiguously asserted that a
contraction of the population is

Essay about Theological Virtue of Charity
Saint Thomas Aquinas is one of the people accredited for having brought theology into the limelight.
However, though theology existed long before the emergence of philosophers and fathers if the
church, individualistic drives such as those of Aquinas brought a deeper understanding into the
mysteries of theology. Modern day theology would not have gotten any bearing without the impact of
philosophers and scholars who simplified the understanding of theological concepts. While it cannot
be independently verified what the motivation was behind the interest in theology, it is clear that
theology is what it is because of the input of the philosophers and scholars (Thomas Pegis, 1997).
Aquinas, being motivated into the world of theology, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aquinas sought to use the same writings and thoughts to further his agenda for making clear his
thoughts. Aristotle based his arguments on the goodness of man. He noted that the man has to develop
from within an aspect of being admired based on the characters that are not as controversial. In
essence, he meant that it is critical for people to leave a life that is a mirror to others and other
generations to come. Aquinas borrowed this concept of the understanding of man to outline the
essence of theological value of ethics. In his arguments, Aquinas noted that for one to achieve some
level of charity from the perspective of theology, two things were critical. Faith and hope, according to
him covered a wide area in understanding or attaining some charity and moral standards. Virtues,
according to Aquinas are the driving force towards achieving some certain telo . Human beings are
ever in pursuit of happiness and as such are always motivated to identify such things that bring about
wellbeing. To this end, Aristotle talked about Beatitudes as a means through which human beings
derive their happiness. According to Aquinas, virtues that are theological in nature drive the human
race towards the supernatural while the other virtues drive people to achieve some specific ends. The
theological values that include faith, hope and charity drive people to God. In essence, he sought to
distinguish the theological virtues and the other virtues. The distinction was that the two

Hispanic And Hispanic Ethnic Groups
When looking at the Hispanic/Latino ethnic groups some may think they are all from the same country
because of their culture, and the fact that many speak Spanish. However, this is not the case, and when
looking at the unique features associated with each ethnic group, it is easy to see the differences
between them. All of the Latino/Hispanic ethnic groups have differences and this can even be heard in
the dialect used to speak Spanish, such as the case when listening to Puerto Ricans and Mexicans
speaking Spanish. In an effort to have a better understanding of elder Mexicans, this paper will look at
the Mexican sub culture, and the features associated with the family dynamics, gender roles,
acculturation patters, as well as religious contemporary issues such as taking care of an elder family
member. We will examine ways to engage, assess, discuss ways of intervention, and review ways to
ensure that effective evaluations are completed.
Demographics
With Hispanics quickly becoming the largest growing population in the United States, it is easy to see
why there is a need for social workers to understand the needs of this population. In fact, focusing on
this population as a whole is a relatively new concentration in regards to social work, so understanding
the elder population is even more unknown. Similar to their Caucasian and African American peers,
Mexican elders have a number of factors that are unique to their culture, and must be understood when

she would let it go after 16 long years, she cursed me on my birthday 16 years ago. Just then I heard a
knock on my door to my room. I opened it to see my dad standing there in tears. I felt bad for him, I
wasn t sure why he was so sad to let me go for a few days but then again I might be dead in a few
days. He was a bald man. He had a red robe on and he had wonderful bright purple eyes. He was the
only one anyone knew with purple eyes. Come on dear. You need to

When the Wasps Drowned
In when the wasp drowned and the darkness out there the theme of death is presented within the
characters and the twisted storyline. A number of techniques such as symbolism, tone and narrative are
used to portray these themes to the reader. In when the wasps drowned Eveline is portrayed as being
mature and protective over her siblings and more importantly the truth of the ring. In the darkness out
there Mrs Rutter is at first seen to be a typical old lady who has a dark secret. Within both stories there
is a strong contrast of characterisation and the overall voice of the story which can create an impact on
the reader in different ways, also in both stories there is a lot of similarities and contrasts of how this is
presented. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her maturity is also confirmed when she is shown to be barefoot on the lino... washing up which is
something you d expect from an adult not a pre teen child. Eveline displays the characteristics of an
adult especially when she on numerous occasions trying to take control for example she hoses the
wasps off Therese in an instant also when she leads the children back to the garden; Eveline as a result
is trying to take the role of her mother and trying to shield her sibling from anything that could harm
them mentally and physically. In addition this could be the reason why Eveline doesn t build up the
murder and covers up the hole as she was in denial and still tries to keep her control with brushing
away the ring to hide any evidence. Eveline is one minute shown to act too old for playing with the
children and she fashions herself her own bikini (which is quite a mature item of clothing, maybe this
could be to make her feel older) and the next she is shown to stop talking about the body and is in
rejection as a result. Lastly a contrast to her mature self is that she needed confirmation when she
found the body by asking for a torch this shows that she doesn t have the amount of maturity needed
to make her own judgement and follow her instincts Penelope Lively succeeds in illustrating a contrast
in characterisation and voice in The Darkness Out There this is especially evident with the portrayal of
Mrs Rutter. Her character is developed in

The Origins Of The Viking Era
During the Viking Era, expansion to the west, as well as the east, introduced a new wave of
technology, industrialization and development, and culture to the European world. The Viking s
expeditions to both were quite similar in that advancements stemmed from their adventures east and
west. However, expeditions from the eastern Vikings (Sweden) were heavily dependent on the usage
and development of economic centers, specifically the Byzantine Empire, powerful and rich in
culture, as well as Russia which housed quality materials as well as slaves. The Russian Primary
Chronical is the most important source on the Russian world during that time. In it are descriptions of
the Scandinavian relationship with the Russians from the 9th century. Unlike in the west, where the
western Vikings (Norway) plundered and settled, the Vikings were always a minority of the
population near the Baltic. The authors of the chronical assumed that they were the original
inhabitants of the land, but in reality, they arrived relatively recently (SSN pg. 3). They came to trade,
not necessarily to settle. The wealth and vast resources in the east are what drew the Vikings.
Throughout this paper, I will present both the opportunities as well as the challenges faced by the
Vikings during their quests to the East.
According to Roesdahl, what were very important, crucial even, to the economic and social growth of
Scandinavia were effective means of transportation and conventional routes. This goes for both

Technology Changes Role of Database Administrator
Technology Changes Role of Database Administrator
The database administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing and coordinating all database
activities. The DBA s job description includes database design, user coordination, backup, recovery,
overall performance, and database security. The database administrator plays a crucial role in
managing data for the employer. In the past the DBA job has required sharp technical skills along with
management ability. (Shelly, Cashman, Waggoner 1992). However, the arrival on the scene of the
relational database along with the rapidly changing technology has modified the database
administrator s role. This has required organizations to vary the way of handling database
management. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Sipolt 1995). The traditional database administrator s strength is in creating the physical design of the
database. The procedural database administrator is an expert in accessing data. Procedural DBAs are
responsible for procedural logic support, application code reviews, access path review and analysis,
SQL rewrites, debugging, and analysis to assure optimal execution. (Mullins 1995)
Along with the changing job description, administrators are facing increased demands from the
corporations for which they work. Database administrators are responsible for staff cost control,
hardware, software, and are becoming increasingly responsible for the work quality and response time
of their staff.
(Riggsbee 1995)
The job modifications are not the only change in this industry. Database administrators received a
substantial increase in their wages in 1995. The average earnings for a DBA are now $52,572
according to the 1995 survey source.
However, salaries differ according to the specific region of the country in which one resides. The mid
level database administrator in San Francisco earns
$55,000 to $65,000, substantially more than our survey states. However, Salt
Lake City database administrator s salary fell between $30,000 to $35,000.
Another area of salaries on the rise is the health care profession. Previously lower end on the pay
scale, hospital pay is on the rise and currently

Matthew And Mark Similarities
While reading the Gospels of Mark and Matthew there are both similarities in their writings and very
distinct differences. Many scholars believe that Matthew redacted Mark s writings to enhance the
stories and make a deeper, more meaningful impact on his church congregation. (Martin 107) There
are two passages that speak to this theory, the recollection of when Jesus walked on water and the
transfiguration of Jesus. While examining the passages from Mark s Gospel regarding Jesus walking
on water, it is simple. Jesus sends his disciples across the Sea of Galilee in a boat while he stays
behind to dismiss the crowd and to pray. The disciples are straining at the oars against a strong
headwind when they see Jesus walking on the water, attempting to pass by them. They think they are
seeing a ghost and cry out, at which time Jesus calms them and ... Show more content on

The possible historical origins of this story are probably irretrievably lost. Whether anything like this
might have happened we simply do not and cannot know. (Barton Muddiman 109) In Matthew s
depiction of the events, Jesus is portrayed as the new Moses. He describes his physical appearance of
Jesus as Moses was in Exodus, His face shone like the sun and clothes became white as light.
(Matthew 17:2) Mark does not point toward Jesus being the new Moses in his writings. He has Elijah
appearing before Moses, this is different in both Matthew and Luke. Perhaps both appear here as
witnesses to Jesus: Elijah as the anticipated forerunner of the Messiah, Moses as the representative of
Scripture. There may also be an element of mild polemic in the story, seeking to counter any claims
that Jesus is on a par with Moses and Elijah. Again, the theory still supports that Matthew did this with
the purpose of creating a story for his church that would make a lasting impression and supporting his

research efforts ranging from basic (early stage) science, to preclinical testing and therapy

Hiring a Diverse Staff Southwest State University is hiring new Resident Assistants (RA). Southwest
State University is a small public baccalaureate university of approximately 2,500 students. Second

school holds twenty positions and currently has seven available. Cheryl is the head of the RA
Selection committee and she is the Assistant Director of Residence Life. The committee will interview

It is good to have diversity in a staff, but if members are in different stages of development, it could
have a ripple effect and turn the whole organization around. Marcus, who was a part of the search
committee for new RA s, seemed confused about the process of finding a new RA. Cheryl mentioned
that interviewing was just one part of the selection, which indicated there is another part to the hiring
process. Cheryl decided to go ahead and offer positions to the students of color, and these students of
color will not have to do the second part of the process. Schuh mentions assessment as analyzing and
interpreting evidence that describes institutional, divisional, or agency effectiveness (Schuh et al.,
2011). Schuh then recommends evaluation to use the assessment to improve departmental and
institutional effectiveness. To become effective as an organization, assessments and evaluations are
important to produce success. Without assessment and evaluation, finding a good fit for a program
will be hard. Cheryl did not do a full assessment of all the students when going through an interview
process. She is having the students of color miss out on the next stage in the hiring process because
they are of color. The justice in this case is threatened because not every student has the same chance
of actually becoming an RA from the beginning. The loss of trust could also be comprised in Marcus
eyes towards Cheryl, because she does not trust or listen to his

Harriet Tubman was an African American abolitionist and humanitarian. Harriet Tubman was born in
Dorchester County, Maryland around 1820 1825 and died in Boston, Massachusetts of pneumonia in
1913. She was born into slavery, but successfully escaped in 1849 to become a leading abolitionist, yet
she returned many times to rescue both family members and non relatives from the plantation system.
She led hundreds of slaves to freedom in the North as the most famous conductor on the Underground
Railroad, an elaborate secret network of safe houses organized to help slaves get to the north and
escape slavery.

Although similar circumstances applied to Harriet Green and her children, the individuals who owned
them decided not to free them. Despite being free, Ben had little power to challenge their decision.
In 1844, Ross married a free black man named John Tubman. Although little is known about their
marriage, she adopted his last name. Any children they might have had would have been considered
enslaved, because the mother s status dictated that of any offspring. Araminta changed her name to
Harriet around the time of her marriage with John, it is believed she did this to honor her mother.
In 1849, Harriet s owner came down with illness that ended in her death. In fear that she was going to
be sold and her family was going to be torn part, Harriet Tubman decided to run away. She also feared
for own her fate as an injured and sick slave of low economic value. She initially fled with two of her
brothers, Ben and Henry, but they both changed their mind and returned to the planation after a notice
was published in the Cambridge Democrat offering a $300 reward for the return of the runaway
slaves. Harriet Tubman used the Underground Railroad to travel about ninety miles to Philadelphia,
only walking at night to avoid being seen and to follow the North Star, she made her way to
Pennsylvania and then Philadelphia. In Philadelphia, she found work and saved money. The

List s Infant Industry Argument Analysis
List was very much influenced by his visit to America. In America, he observed and analyzed the US s
development. He was greatly influenced by Henry Clancy, Hamilton and John Quicny (Selwyn,2014).
It was actually written that Hamilton s (1791) Report of the secretary of the Treasury on the Subject of
Manufactures was the very first attempt to formulate the infant industry argument (Selwyn, p.g
31,2014). List was the first person to combat the issues of industrialisation for the late developers of
his time US and Germany. List put together the infant industry argument (shafeaeddin,2005). This
argument was put in place as a procedure that would lead and guide less developed countries that were
attempting to catch up with the countries that were already developed. (Selwyn,2014). List s infant
industry argument has been built on 5 principles. He believes that countries go through basic 5 stages
of economic development of the nation. They are the savage state, pastoral stage, the ... Show more

trying to focus on nationalism does not exclude that fact that they are class differences within
Germany. List represents the German bourgeoisie s as representing the whole nation of Germany
though the German Bourgeois s are more than ready to exploit and oppress the proletariats in their
country for profit and wealth. Marx basically puts it in the terms of, German want the British not
exploit the German workers but yet, the German want the freedom to exploit their own workers

than 21000 stores in over 65 countries. Their product includes coffee, hot and cold beverages, pastries,
sandwiches etc. Starbucks has been maintaining high quality product and customer services all over
the world. They differentiated the company by introducing authentic Italian coffee culture to US

system which forced them to close many stores worldwide. Secondly, they faced challenges to deal
with increased competition and cheaper rival hence, their earnings fell 28% to $109 million. In
addition, the prices of the products are higher than their direct competitors. Also, they expanded their
business at such level that they couldn t focus on the brand image and quality of the products. They
were losing core values of the company. At that time Howard Schultz, board chairman founder of
Starbucks had observed the urgency to transform the business immediately. He then returned as
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and announced to close more than 600 stores in 2008. To
manage the challenges and to give their customers distinct Starbucks Experience Schultz took
different approaches. Schultz pointed out Seven goals or Big moves to transform the business and

The Electric Drive Revolution And Electric Cars
Capstone Introduction Paragraph
The electric drive revolution will become accepted and advance over time, just like computers and cell
phones have over the last few days (anonymous). Electric cars have been around for many years. But
they just started coming back around in the 21st century. Before anyone who had charging stations
they would have to switch out their battery for their electric car whenever it ran out. The electric cars
were created to basically compete with gas powered cars. They were also created to reduce the
pollution created by gas cars. Countries all over the world have started to create more and more
electric cars. In fact, in this exact moment Japan already has more charging stations than gas stations
which could possibly mean that they already have more electric cars than gas cars. The first electric
car was created in the early 1900 s by Thomas Edison. People are only starting to go back to electric
cars because charging stations were invented. With charging stations in place now people won t have
to rely on gas stations and gas powered cars, they will only rely on the more environment friendly
charging stations and electric cars. Also with electric cars you have a lot more options to pick from
when it comes to batteries to buy and charge. You can use lead acid batteries, zinc air batteries, and
many more. Plus using electricity instead of gas is a lot cheaper. With time, gas powered cars will
become extinct. Electric cars will continue to

Alturas Feasibility Study
Alturas is a small city located in the northeastern part of California. Alturas was originally inhabited
by the Pit River Tribe of Native Americans before white men arrived to settle the area. The Pit River is
a wide valley near the center of the county, which is a prehistoric lake bed which formed from erosion
and volcanic flows of the Modoc Plateau. The northeast edge of the valley is at the foot of the Warner
Mountains about ten miles east of town. The Modoc National Wildlife Refuge borders the south of
town, where natural wetlands have been set aside to preserve wildlife, including deer, antelope, Sand
Hill Cranes, Canada Geese, and other native animals. In 1870, brothers Presley and Carlos Dorris and
their nephew, Jim Dorris, settled and built a bridge over the Pit River in order to move livestock. In

Estate has left the City of Alturas more than $2,000,000. It is to be used for the Alturas Swimming
Pool and other youth related activities. It has to be decided how to spend the money, whether it is for
repairing the current pool or building a new community center. If only the repairs are done that will
leave enough funds for other youth related projects. Public member Heather Hadwick feels a
Community Center would be a great idea and benefit this area The Council will continue to get input
from the Alturas Swimming Pool Committee and the Community Center Committees. The Alturas
Rotary Club was also left the same amount of money to be used at the Youth Park; a joint project

Rhetorical Analysis Of Chick-Fil-A
With the location and the community near the ad out of the way, the rhetorical appeals can better be
explained. Those being logos, ethos, and pathos. To begin with, logos, or logic, tries to appeal to the
intellect and mind of the target audience that they are trying to reach. In the case of this specific ad,
the logic of this ad seems quite direct. In that if you prefer to eat chicken, you should visit Chick fil A,
instead of the alternatives. Which in the case of this ad, it is almost a blunt statement. Since it directly
tells the viewer to, eat more chicken. The next rhetorical appeal would be ethos, or appealing to ethics.
Which tries to convince you that the author behind the ad is credible and an authority on the topic in

The diagram to the right shows the life cycle of a tick. Larvae have six legs, climb the vegetation and wait for a passing host, usually a mouse. There they feed for 2 3 days and they increase their weight 10 20 times. Thy then drop off into the vegetation and continue to grow. After several months, the lava molts to an 8 legged nymph of around 2mm. A few months later the nymph molts again into the final stage of tick development; the adult. • 6. Afro-Brazilian Self-Identity in Brazil Essay Over the past several decades there has been an increase, in Brazil, of people whom self identify as being black or Afro Brazilian. What sparked the rise in these identities in Brazil? Was it possible material and intellectual gains or, sparked from activism, or from other possible factors. The black movement and affirmation of black identity came about much later in Brazil than in other countries such as the United States. In my opinion the most important factors for the rise in these identities are the material gains from the Quilombo Clause, the effects of affirmative action and quotas, as well as social activism. For this community many, who did not prior, began to identify as black in order to qualify for the Quilombo clause and get the material gain of land. Another factor that has led to the increase in people identifying as black is affirmative action and the quota system. In the early 2000s Brazilian government started to introduce affirmative action with a quota system. Quotas were added for university admissions, government jobs, film and media, among other things. Affirmative action policies also favored places that gave fair employment to blacks (Htun). The quota systems allow blacks to have more opportunities for jobs and other intellectual gains. These gains are an incentive for people, whom may not have prior, to begin to self identify as black in order to qualify for them. An example of the quota system in use are the students in Brazil deciding whether or not to apply for the university entrance exam under the quota system in the Wide Angle segment Brazil in Black and White . In this segment they follow five kids who are taking the entrance exam. Two of these kids decide to apply under the quota system (Wide Angle). Over time these classification systems have evolved, not only as a whole in the criminal justice system, but also varying between different organizations. Classification systems that create models based on the risks and needs of offenders are most popular. Throughout the years these models and the purposes for their use have been in a state of change, as well as the way their effectiveness is gaged. One of the most commonly used classification systems for offenders is the combination of risk assessment and need assessment. The combination of these two systems of classification is rather new. The earliest types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second generation was characterized by the custody classification risks and parolees being classified on their risk of reoffending based on their custody classification. These early models were administered routinely but scores rarely changed because the information in the assessment was static and did not change over time (Van Voorhis, et al., 2009). Such information as the severity of prior convictions, and prior felonies did not change between assessments and led to an overly simple classification system that did not offer any options for treatment or change within offender behavior. Additionally, it was proven that the earliest risk assessment models were not accurate in dealing with female offenders because the history of women offenders is not as indicative of future behavior as it is with male offenders (Van Voorhis et al., 2008). While the original risk assessment models were helpful in achieving a basic glance at offender behavior risks, it lacked the quality assessment tools needed to not only determine whether an offender was going to be a danger while institutionalized or the community once paroled, but to fully offer options for rehabilitation. More recently, the combination of risk/needs assessments have changed the course of classification models. No longer are risks assessments conducted solely for the institutionalized but also are used to foresee new transgressions with needs that are similarly elements of offender ... Introduction: My family was never the richest, always looking for help in many different ways. A struggle was my mom trying to take care of three children all on her own, ensuring there was a roof over our heads, food in our stomach and clothes on our backs. We have moved many times since I was about four years old, but never did I think about how hard it was to find a new home each time. We have to be able to get families out of danger and into safety by getting them into their own homes but the sooner the better. There can be big Boston events held to raise money, such as marathons, festivals and more, which can not only help the community come together but also earn the money to build homes that are affordable. Once the participants had written the I statements the recording equipment was turned back on and the interviewer asked the participants questions relating to what they had written. The style in which the interviewer asked questions was based on Rosenberg s study of self descriptions. The staff within the hospital makes it a wonderful place to be a part of, even as a volunteer. The many people I worked with made me feel like family. • 15. Reflection In My Life Over the course of this semester me and our group success have participated in a variety of activities coordinated by the Counselor Mrs. Warren which touch on topics oriented around college, careers, and ourselves as people. These activities taught us life skills that we can apply in our life. For example, some of the activities included learning to do or determine our SMART goals, long term goals, skills/strengths, values and making decisions based on them, pathways to our potential career/education. Therefore, what we learned as a group with Mrs. Warren was how to apply those life skills taught in everyday life, How we would reach point A to point B, and learn more about ourselves as people. Throughout my life I have always felt like I knew myself, but until recently I have never, truly known myself. These traits are one of my utmost important values to me in the sense that they are what I do my best to live by them. My five main values are creativity, compassion, empathy, love, and wisdom. I value creativity since through that I am able to express myself. Compassion is important to me being that I cannot be a bystander and forsake the people suffering or the guilt would eat me alive, knowing I could have done something to help. Most of my life I have empathized with people, putting myself in their shoes and feeling their emotions, so that Is why empathy is one of my core values in view of How are you going to understand someone if you cannot put yourself in their ... • 16. Olaudah Equiano Biography Olaudah Equiano, also known by the name of Gustavus Vassa which was given to him by his master on a slave ship, was born in the Eboe province of Africa in 1775 1776. Eboe was a part of the kingdom of Benin which is now present day Nigeria. Equiano, like many others, lived in a village and was kidnapped and sold into slavery. From the chains of enslavement to the freedom in London, he believed that he and his countrymen deserved freedom and equality. Religion would have a huge impact on Equiano s life as he converted to Christianity after having many near death experiences on his voyages around the world. He also used religion to argue his case against slavery as he became involved in the abolitionist movement in London in the late 18th century. Later in life, Equiano would begin writing his autobiography The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa, the African, Written by Himself and was published in 1789. The book would relive Equiano s life in Eboe, he and his sister s capture and enslavement, the Middle Passage and the horrors of slavery, his travels, and work as an abolitionist. Olaudah Equiano begins his autobiography by claiming that he is neither a saint, hero, or tyrant, but instead is favored by Heaven, which he gives credit for the blessings he has received in his life. Equiano also hopes that his autobiography will help his enslaved countrymen and other peoples of African descent. His story begins in Eboe, present day Nigeria. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similar tools like the other visits were used. The buckthorn trees in this area were mostly young with population of high density in certain areas and the range of their occupied area was from entrance of the forest up to one quarter of the area at the end of the savanna. The buckthorns were cut and by aligning them on the fire place against the direction of the wind then were burnt. During our visit we noticed that unlike the Bunker Hill Savanna forest preserve we were first greeted by the grassland then the forest. In the middle of the savanna we saw a buck or a male deer grazing on the grass found over there. In addition, we were able to observe a species of hawk that was rarely seen close up. It had a golden brownish color and was sitting in the nearby tree observing the activities that were done in the forest. After the required buckthorn trees were cut and burnt, herbicide was sprayed on their remaining parts on the ground. Next seeds of some of the native plants of that area were dispersed over the area where the buckthorn trees have previously occupied. Nursing Constraints Constraints are anything that limit or discourage certain movements at the same time they permit or encourage other movements or shape the movement(s). 1 In light of that, when assessing the constraints that may exist for this female patient there are three constraints that she will encounter: individual constraints, environmental constraints, and task constraints. First, the individual constraints exist within the patient herself (her own body). These constraints are related to her structure (anatomical physiology, i.e. her height, weight, muscle mass, body size, etc.) and her function (her behavior, attention, motivation). These constraints are all dependent on the patient herself and how she is able to operate. In this case the patient has some stability and weakness issues of the ankle joint of the involved limb. This will present a problem because she feels her ankle giving way when she plays sports. Thomas Malthus bleak evaluation of humanity s prospects in the face of overpopulation heralded a new age in economics where pessimism became the undisputed ruler of discourse. John Stuart Mill s efforts to banish this pervasive gloom by appealing to the capabilities and intelligence of his fellow men is both inspiring and devastatingly effective. In a broader context, the struggle between Thomas Malthus and John Stuart Mill cannot be viewed as merely a peripheral debate on a singular issue; it is a battle for the very soul of economic analysis. Before delving into a comparative analysis of these two brilliant thinkers, it is essential to provide an overview of their differing theories of human nature and to examine the contexts that shaped their scholarship. Thomas Malthus lived in a society that venerated population growth as the ultimate source of prosperity and harmony. Contemporaries of Malthus, such as clergyman William Paley, argued that the aggregate amount of happiness in a society is almost exactly proportional to the size of its populace. It therefore comes as no surprise that the noblemen, politicians, and theologians of Malthus time were greatly distressed by sensational claims that England s population was in severe decline. The hysteria of this concern was neatly encapsulated by Paley, who unambiguously asserted that a contraction of the population is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Essay about Theological Virtue of Charity Saint Thomas Aquinas is one of the people accredited for having brought theology into the limelight. However, though theology existed long before the emergence of philosophers and fathers if the church, individualistic drives such as those of Aquinas brought a deeper understanding into the mysteries of theology. Modern day theology would not have gotten any bearing without the impact of philosophers and scholars who simplified the understanding of theological concepts. While it cannot be independently verified what the motivation was behind the interest in theology, it is clear that theology is what it is because of the input of the philosophers and scholars (Thomas Pegis, 1997). Aquinas borrowed this concept of the understanding of man to outline the essence of theological value of ethics. In his arguments, Aquinas noted that for one to achieve some level of charity from the perspective of theology, two things were critical. • 36. Hispanic And Hispanic Ethnic Groups When looking at the Hispanic/Latino ethnic groups some may think they are all from the same country because of their culture, and the fact that many speak Spanish. However, this is not the case, and when looking at the unique features associated with each ethnic group, it is easy to see the differences between them. All of the Latino/Hispanic ethnic groups have differences and this can even be heard in the dialect used to speak Spanish, such as the case when listening to Puerto Ricans and Mexicans speaking Spanish. In an effort to have a better understanding of elder Mexicans, this paper will look at the Mexican sub culture, and the features associated with the family dynamics, gender roles, acculturation patters, as well as religious contemporary issues such as taking care of an elder family member. We will examine ways to engage, assess, discuss ways of intervention, and review ways to ensure that effective evaluations are completed. Demographics With Hispanics quickly becoming the largest growing population in the United States, it is easy to see why there is a need for social workers to understand the needs of this population. In fact, focusing on this population as a whole is a relatively new concentration in regards to social work, so understanding the elder population is even more unknown. Similar to their Caucasian and African American peers, Mexican elders have a number of factors that are unique to their culture, and must be understood when looking at ways ... The Origins Of The Viking Era During the Viking Era, expansion to the west, as well as the east, introduced a new wave of technology, industrialization and development, and culture to the European world. The Viking s expeditions to both were quite similar in that advancements stemmed from their adventures east and west. However, expeditions from the eastern Vikings (Sweden) were heavily dependent on the usage and development of economic centers, specifically the Byzantine Empire, powerful and rich in culture, as well as Russia which housed quality materials as well as slaves. The Russian Primary Chronical is the most important source on the Russian world during that time. In it are descriptions of the Scandinavian relationship with the Russians from the 9th century. Unlike in the west, where the western Vikings (Norway) plundered and settled, the Vikings were always a minority of the population near the Baltic. The authors of the chronical assumed that they were the original inhabitants of the land, but in reality, they arrived relatively recently (SSN pg. 3). They came to trade, not necessarily to settle. The wealth and vast resources in the east are what drew the Vikings. Throughout this paper, I will present both the opportunities as well as the challenges faced by the Vikings during their quests to the East. Jesus sends his disciples across the Sea of Galilee in a boat while he stays behind to dismiss the crowd and to pray.
