Synaptic Of Alzheimer s Disease Essay
and synapses to prevent amyloidosis and inhibit further aggregation56. In the CNS, nonneuronal cell
linages like astrocytes have been reported to have an elevated level of HSPs to target misfolded
protein degradation53. However, a major gap in the field is the lack of any such reports about the
extracellular chaperons in the protection of CNS and neuronal structure and function.
Although not fully understood, but it has been reported that different cells have different susceptibility
to proteotoxic stress. The unfolded protein response evoked by cells in response to proteotoxic stress
involves an orchestered functioning of the proteostasis pathways57.
Neuronal cells and cell of the central nervous system bear an increased risk of being burdened by
misfolded protein aggregates under stress or disease conditions. For example, dopaminergic neurons
in the substantia nigra in case of Parkinson s disease, motor neurons in the motor cortex and spinal
cord in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cholinergic neurons in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex in
case of Alzheimer s disease, are those cells with greater susceptibility in comparison to other cells51.
One way of looking at this is to explore the difference in terms of the expression of the proteostasis
components in these cells, and that of the pathological marker proteins like amyloid β, α synuclein,
Lewy body, huntingtin and bunnina bodies51. A comparison of deficiencies or abnormal expression

Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Redmond,
Washington, United States that develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports a wide range of
products and services predominantly related to computing through its various product divisions.
Established on April 4, 1975 to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800, Microsoft
rose to dominate the home computer operating system market with MS DOS in the mid 1980s,
followed by the Microsoft Windows line of operating systems. Microsoft is one of the largest software
corporations in the world that has diversified in recent years into the video game industry with the
Xbox and its successor, the Xbox 360 as well as into the consumer electronics and digital services
market with Zune, MSN and the Windows Phone OS. (Microsoft, 2015)
Primarily in the 1990s, critics contend Microsoft used monopolistic business practices and anti
competitive strategies including refusal to deal and tying, put unreasonable restrictions in the use of its
software, and used misrepresentative marketing tactics; both the U.S. Department of Justice and
European Commission found the company in violation of antitrust laws. Known for its interviewing
process with obscure questions, various studies and ratings were generally favorable to Microsoft s
diversity within the company as well as its overall environmental impact with the exception of the

believed the benefits outweighed the misfortunes.

Natural liberty leads to the evils in the society and make individuals even worse, because it allows

Informative Essay On Cottontail Rabbitss
The cottontail rabbit, or Sylvilagus floridanus, is one of the most common mammals in North
America. Largely known for terrorizing gardens and melting children s hearts, this animal is
considered a pest among some and a harmless critter among others. The cottontail is known for its tall
ears, powerful hind legs, and of course, its trademark cotton white tail. Its fur will come in all shades
of gray and brown, and it can grow to be up to three and a half pounds. I am proposing a twenty year
study of the cottontail rabbit to learn how different impacts on the rabbits world will affect their
natural selection process. First, my study will consist of a of a fenced off ten acres of land free from
human impact. This will be a place where there is already an establish population of cottontail rabbits.

A female cottontail, or doe, can have her first litter after only a year of age, and she can have up to
four litters a year. This means that by the time a doe is caring for her last litter of the season, offspring
from her first litter may be tending to their own babies. While cottontail litters are relatively large,
consisting of three to eight young, a sparse number will survive to adulthood. Many are lost to
predators such as dogs and cats. Others die from a flaw in nest building. The way a mother doe builds
a nest makes it very susceptible to filling with water. Entire litters are lost when this happens, as the
blind, deaf, and furless baby rabbits drown in their own refuge. Even when cottontails do survive long
enough to leave the nest, many are killed within their first year. While this may seem like a tragedy, it
is a harsh fact of life for cottontails. During the first year, I will examine how the natural losses in
young affect the mother rabbits. I will also pay close attention to how many of the cottontails survive
the entire first

It s blistering hot, as the sun beats the soul out of the barren atmosphere of deserted Djibouti. The sand

Embryonic Stem Cell Research Outline
What is Embryonic? Embryonic is relating to an embryo, or an unborn. Embryonic stem cell research
is a theory by scientists, that research can cure painful diseases such as Diabetes, Parkinson s disease,
Cancer, Heart Disease, and many other unusual genetic disorders. The Embryonic stem cell research
began in 1988 by James Thomson and his associates. James Thomson discovered how to excoriate the
human embryonic stem cells from within the cell mass through IVF, given for research intendment.
IVF is the act of removing fertile eggs from a female s ovaries and fertilized with sperm in a
laboratory culture dish.
Has the Embryonic Stem Cells cured any disease? The answer is no, there is only a possibility that it
may cure an immune disease. There are no Federal Laws against Embryonic Stem Cell research. The
National Instituted of Health Guidelines on Human Stem Cell Research (Stem Cell Information) was
published to mold the view of the stem cell research. Even though there are may be a possibility of a
cure from Embryonic Stem Cell research, the Federal Government should not give funding to this

Policy Changes are Needed in Our Education System
Our society has become punitive when dealing with children, so much so that we are deemed, by other
nations, the harshest western nation when it comes to juvenile policy and punishment. Unfortunately,
this is a true statement when we look at our incarceration rates. Our states and federal prison, local
jails, and juvenile detention center are overcrowded, with beds being filled the same day they are
vacated. Specifically, our juvenile detention system is serving an alarming amount of children. In fact,
it is estimated that 500,000 children enter juvenile detentions center every year, leading to the
detention of more than 26,000 juveniles every day (Holman and Ziedenberg, 2006). Unfortunately,
studies have found that disability rates among juveniles in detention average around 30% to 50%
(Gemeignani, 1994). While some studies indicate the rate of disability is as high as 76% (Quinn et al.,
2005). In contrast, the national average of disabilities is estimated at 10% (Butterworth Kovas, 2013).
These factors have significant consequences on our society in general. Particularly on our
incarceration rates of both juvenile and adults, the enormous cost of incarcerating individuals, the loss
of taxpayers and family members, and the overtaxing of a system that cannot treat the large amount of
children. The juvenile system differs from the adult system; they focus on the treatment of the child in
hopes to repair the issues that have caused the delinquency. As we have seen in other

Racial Inequalities Of Elvis Presley
Racial Inequalities is a part of society that has been overlooked in the past when reflecting on an
individual s success. As a musician, all aspects of life influence an integral part to one s career
success. The daunting power of racial inequality is illustrated remarkably in comparison of how
society remembers these Berry and Presley today. In regards to this inequality we will reflect upon
unequal power, resources prestige and presumed worth. These two musicians, vary in privilege in
comparison to one another greatly throughout the entire course of their life. Berry started out in a
descent finial situation while Presley started in an in poverty. Presley did not an easy life prior to his
music career but his career displays many privileges due to race and results of his race. Many
opportunities Presley received where not rightfully obtained due to his skill but rather with money or

The Work Systems And Organizational Structure Of The...
Assignment #7 This paper will examine the work systems and organizational structure of the
Healthcare Employees Benefits (HEB) Manitoba. I will explain the current system in place and
present how changes in work and technology may affect potential future changes to the work systems.
As well, the potential benefits and obstacles to these changes will be explored. HEB Manitoba is the
pension and benefit provider for 70,000 active and retired healthcare workers in Manitoba. It emerged
from the consolidation of three pension plans during two mergers in the mid 1990s. Since the mergers,
it has grown from 12 employees to more than 150 employees. It has a proto typical hierarchal
organization, with 1 senior executive, 5 executives, 25 managers and approximately 120 employees.
Some managers have no employees reporting to them, but managers with direct reports average about
eight employees each. The departments divide according to job function, including finance, corporate
services, pensions and benefits, disability and information systems. The majority of the departments
split into further sub departments, with the largest department, the pension and benefits department,
consisting of 57 employees. Workflow generally stays within one department, but can cross over
between departments. Sub departments typically focus on specific tasks, such as reviewing files for
data accuracy, preparing pension calculations, or administering the information network. As the largest

Adverse Effects of Oppressive Dystopias A genuine identity and individuality is not possible in an
oppressive environment especially when one s daily life, actions, and thoughts are dictated by
domineering societal expectations. Oppressive environments such as regimes controlled by a
dictatorship and that run off a totalitarian government system strip an individual of their civil rights as
a human being in order to gain ultimate control over its citizens. A government such as the Republic of

This is exemplified when Offred hears Aunt Lydia say, Ordinary is what you are used to. This may not
seem ordinary to you now, but after a time it will. It will become ordinary (Atwood 33). The repetition
of ordinary is used to reinforce how harsh realities (e.g. public execution) are perceived and justified
as normal by the citizens of Gilead; however, in Offred s previous life, she would have been repulsed
to see a public hanging of an innocent person. With Aunt Lydia s presence and words casting a shadow
in Offred s mind, she begins to have a sense of normalcy about life in Gilead. The Aunt Lydia s words
are so powerful and influential that Offred begins to transform her way of thinking, which mirrors the
lack of individuality that she displays. Not only can Offred not think for herself, but her vision is also
controlled by Gilead. For instance, Offred and other handmaids must wear white wings, which are a
headdress to restrict their vision. This is shown when Atwood writes, There remains a mirror, on the
hall wall. If I turn my head so that the white wings framing my face direct my vision towards it...[I
see] myself in it like a distorted shadow (9). The white wings are symbolic of her not being able to see
reality and only what Gilead wants her to see; therefore, her vision is restricted and so are her
thoughts. Furthermore, her vision is not

Can You Be Pregnant and Not Know It?
For many women, the typical signs of pregnancy are when their period doesn t arrive on time,

women can have light symptoms that are mistaken for other health issues, such as indigestion, food

The Shand Untreated Water Makeup System
The purpose of the Shand Untreated Water Makeup System (KI) is to supply raw, non potable water to
Shand Power Station. The majority of water comes from Rafferty Dam, with a smaller amount that
comes from the wetlands source. The water is gathered in the Shand raw water pond, where it can be
distributed to several areas for on site usage. The largest consumers of this water are the cooling
towers. SaskPower has a contract with the City of Estevan to accept sewage effluent until Shand s end
of life. It achieves this by pumping the sewage effluent into the constructed wetlands and eventually
into the main untreated water line to be delivered to the Shand raw water pond.

2022, it is recommended to proceed with replacement. If not replaced prior to 2022, it is
recommended to replace A Rafferty pump in 2022.
It is recommended that the Rafferty outlet piping and valves be replaced in 2022. This includes all
piping and valves up to the enclosure conduit. The recirculation valves are excluded from replacement
(as they will have been replaced in 2017). The major valves should be re assessed prior to 2022 to
confirm which require replacement.
It is recommended to isolate the current untreated makeup water line from the previously used and
currently unmaintained Estevan aquifer piping in order to maintain system integrity. The line would be
exposed, capped, and backfilled.

Pumpkin Roll Chemistry
Leaves are turning an array orange, red, and yellow and beginning to fall. The weathers getting cooler,

sprinkled with a layer of powdered sugar. To begin with, combine the dry ingredients, including flour,
baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt in small bowl. Stir the mixture until all the dry
ingredients are fully mixed. Secondly, combine the eggs and granulated sugar in a large mixer bowl
until mixture is thick. Then add the canned pumpkin in the large bowl with the eggs and sugar. Mix
the dry ingredients in the large bowl with the rest of the ingredients. By now the baking process is half
way through. Pour the mixture on the greased pan with the wax paper. At this time if you would like
nuts in your cake you may sprinkle them on the mixture. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 13 to
15 minutes or until top of cake springs back when touched. (If using a dark colored pan, begin

Open Carry In Criminal Justice Cases
According to Tribune Review analysis of Department of National Justice Caseload Data, 29.2 percent
of criminal violation citations had weak or insufficient admissible evidence; 25 percent had lack of
evidence of criminal intent; 9.2 percent had no federal offense evident; and 5 percent had insufficient
evidence. Statistics and data typically aren t very intimidating, however these are. These statistics
indicate that law enforcement officers and public officials are taking advantage of people who know
nothing of their own civil rights and liberties. Knowing your rights is vital to avoiding infringement,
and possible false incarceration. Violation of these rights isn t something new, it s been occurring for
many years, and many of your rights today were founded on some of the cases that have dealt with it.
One example, is Miranda vs Arizona, the supreme court ruled detained criminal suspects, prior to

Feminist Theory In Thornton Wilder s Our Town
In Our Town, there are many themes that are present in the play. There are many instances where the
reader or audience can say that while writing the play that Thornton Wilder had in mind that the play
was going to support the feminist movement, or the how the play can be used to show how ridiculous
the marxist theory is, or it can also say that Wilder intended Our Town to be used to support the
mythological theory, both the archetypal characters, in the town drunk, Simon Stimson, and George
and Emily, and archetypal images, such as his references Mrs. Webb s and Mrs. Gibbs gardens, and

of the town because he wants the town to seem fertile and helpful to the soul, much like how the
garden could be if one was to admire how the colors are. He mentions the sunflowers and how bright
they are and how they add to the overall effect of pleasantness to the town. The play could also
support the archetype characters because one could view Wilder as intending George and Emily to

the next generation of children for the town to continue to prosper, of course until the end of the play
because they only have one child, the other child that killed Emily in childbirth is not known whether

The Death Of Common Sense, By Philip K. Howard
You will be surprised to learn that using simple common sense can take us a long way towards
happiness and thriving in life. But we also know that common sense is, sometimes the most
uncommon thing. Again, using common sense requires some thinking on our part and we forget or
refuse to do that because of ignorance, negligence or stubbornness.
I recently read a book called The Death of Common Sense, by Philip K. Howard. It is a book about
the system of governmental regulations and how it is suffocating America. The author argues that
although we have a democratic system in this country, the laws and statutes that we have created are
actually stifling people rather than making them grow.
Speaking of democracy, we Americans think that we have the greatest democracy in the world. I think
what we have is plutocracy, a political system influenced and run by wealthy in dividuals and

sense. For example, the book begins with the story of an abandoned building in New York City that
was sold to the Sisters of Mother Theresa for one dollar, to make it into a home less shelter.
The code required that the building should have an elevator. It would cost the Sisters an extra
$100,000. The Sisters were willing to use the stairs; the homeless people wouldn t have really cared
whether there was an elevator, as long as they had a place to sleep. The irony is that it would cost
$100,000 for an elevator for a building that they paid one dollar for. The city wouldn t budge. And the
Sisters had to abandon the

Squanto Essay
Squanto
Squanto is a Native American who lived in the early seventeenth century in what is now the Northeast
United States. When the English came to this area of America to settle, they became very fond of
Squanto and used him as a translator due to his unique knowledge of the English language acquired
through an earlier voyage to Europe. Squanto helped the Pilgrims adapt to their new surroundings by
providing them with the knowledge that he and his ancestors used to survive when they first settled in
this area. He became known as a friend to the English and a spokesman for his Native friends
(Johnson p.2). However, in helping the English, Squanto realized the power he had obtained through
his position and used it for his own gain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also taught them how to fish and where the best spots were to catch enough to feed the colony.
These important tips were essential to the survival of the English. Squanto was also very helpful in
establishing peaceful relations between the colonists and Indians. In his first meeting with the
Plymouth colonists, Squanto was able to work out a peace treaty in order to keep either side from
hastily attacking the other (Johnson p.2). He also acted as an interpreter and a guide to help make the
English more comfortable around the indigenous people (). Without Squanto s help, the Pilgrims
would probably have had severe famine over the next year, and would have lived in constant fear of
their indian neighbors (Johnson p.2); the English could not have survived without the knowledge that
Squanto had given them.
However, the friendly side of Squanto is traditionally the only one taught to the American public, in
which he is portrayed as an extremely friendly Native American who devoted much of his time and
effort to helping the European settlers adapt to their newly acquired land. It is true that Squanto was a
great help to the English settlers, however many modern texts, articles, and essays concerning Squanto
neglect to include his betrayal of many Native American tribes in what is now Connecticut and Long
Island(Vine p. 201 ). Many elementary educated students are led to believe that Squanto simply saved
the newcomers from

Al Minor Associates, Inc. V. Martin Case Summary
Robert Martin was sued for misappropriation of trade secrets in the case of Al Minor
Associates, Inc. vs Martin, in the state of Ohio. The facts of the case are as follows: Robert
Martin, a former employee of Al Minor Associates, formed his own company in 2003, offering the
same services as Al Minor Associates. He did so while still employed at the company. This means that
Robert, who was hired in 1998, still had access to its customer files and sensitive account information
belonging to Al Minor .Associates, while forming his own business to compete with them. He
proceeded to memorize customer information, that he then used in his own business, once he resigned
from Al Minor Associates in 2004. Robert solicited fifteen of Al Minor s clients for business. ... Show

The trial court in Ohio ruled in favor of Al Minor .Associates and awarded them $25,973 for a
violation of the Trade Secret Act. The Franklin County Court of Appeals affirmed the trial court s

under R.C. 1333.61(D), AMA s memorized client list warrants trade secret status

Hope and the American Dream Portrayed in Fitzgerald s The...
The Great Gatsby , written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, portrays a world filled with rich societal happenings,
love affairs, and corruption. Nick Carraway is the engaged narrator of the book, a curious choice
considering that he is in a different class and almost in a different world than Gatsby and the other
characters. Nick relates the plot of the story to the reader as a member of Gatsby s circle. He has
ambivalent feelings towards Gatsby, despising his personality and corrupted dream but feeling drawn
to Gatsby s magnificent capacity to hope. Using Nick as a moral guide, Fitzgerald attempts to guide
readers on a journey through the novel to illustrate the corruption and failure of the American Dream.
To achieve this, Nick s credentials as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His narrating is very open and he brilliantly sets up the story. But Nick s credentials as a trustworthy
narrator continue to be reinforced throughout the story, as a way of reassuring readers that Nick
remains decent while the rest of the characters continue on their downfall. The meeting with Jordan
Baker causes Nick to once again mention the topic of honesty. When he learned of her cheating in a
golf tournament, Nick declared, She was incurably dishonest pg 58. This manifests a contrast between
Jordan and Nick when a few lines later he says of himself I am one of the few honest people that I
have ever known. Pg 59. Nick let his honesty shine through when he admitted to himself that Jordan
was a very selfish, greedy, and cynical person, but he loved her nonetheless. He did not feel the need
to lie to himself and the readers in order to make Jordan sound amiable. Such an act shows that Nick
remains unchanged even in the presence of a charming and rich lady. Nick also remained unchanged
and declined the opportunity to earn easy money offered to him by Gatsby through Meyer Wolfsheim.

Analysis Of Nella Larsen And Chester Himes Essay
Nella Larsen and Chester Himes both published novels in the first half of the twentieth century that
deal with Black characters passing for white. Particularly because the race of some characters is fairly
ambiguous in Larsen s novel, members of the Black race as defined here will include those with any
known Black ancestry. Therefore race is being defined with respect to the one drop rule, which
dictates that any small presence of African ancestry requires individuals to be granted a hypo
descendent racial status. This decision came about because both novels are set and were published
during a time when legal racial status largely determined individuals economic power in order to
maintain Jim Crow segregation (Davis 17 19). Given this definition of Blackness, both Larsen s
Passing and Himes If He Hollers deal with the concept of Blacks passing as white. Himes Robert Bob
Jones and Alice Harrison, and Larsen s Irene Redfield and Clare Bellew are all Black characters who
are able to pass at some point. On the surface, this is possible simply because those characters all have
very light skin. However, it is also true that those same characters either have an apparent respectable
status, or both money and a respectable status. This status is determined by such traits as dialect and
speech, as well as expensive clothes. These factors all influence whether or not the light skinned Black
characters are able to pretend to be white in white spaces. Though they

The Irony Of The Sinner
While traveling through Hell, Dante the pilgrim encountered numerous sinners on each level, all
prepared to tell their tales of misfortune and transgression. However, though some ask Dante to
remember them or tell their stories on Earth, most of them speak for their own gain, not simply to
educate Dante on the penalties of their sins. Each sinner appears to wallow in the past, isolating
themselves in their sin and occasionally ignoring Dante as a person entirely. Even when these sinners
find themselves physically trapped together with another soul, they remain lonely and miserable in
their suffering: they have deprived themselves of the forgiveness and love God offered them and now
must find something else to love. As they have rejected God, these sinners still seek to fill that void of
emptiness to which they have forever condemned themselves. In Dante Alighieri s Inferno, the irony
of the sinner s contrappaso reflects the irony that, even in the suffering they have brought upon
themselves, they have a misplaced love in their sin in place of the love God offered them.
In Canto V, Dante encounters the Francesca and Paulo, who have thrown away their chance for heaven
for one another, yet enjoyed the action of sinning itself more then each other s company. As soon as
Dante the pilgrim comes upon the pair, Francesca relates the tale of their sin, explaining how this one,
who never shall be parted from me, while all his body trembled, kissed my mouth....that day we read

Theme Of Loss In Birdsong
The theme of loss is also shown through all three writers work, demonstrated through the destruction
and brutality of the war. In Birdsong Stephen appears a strange and isolated figure at the beginning of
the novel who brings with him concepts of unrest, as he possesses a knife with a singular scrupulously
sharpened blade which suggests the idea of conflict. As well as losing Isabelle in a romantic sense, he
experiences extreme loss and privation throughout his time in the war, particularly the loss of Weir
and Jack Firebrace that are dealt with in graphic but simplistic language. Weir s death occurs suddenly
and within one paragraph his face is said to be smashing unprotected into mud . Stephen is pained by
his death and even feels he had loved him and he had made the ... Show more content on

When he dies, Stephen is left alone in the tunnel feeling bitterly alone , which demonstrates the need
for companionship to survive. The idea of loss is also shown when Elizabeth visits the memorial and
notices the columns teeming with names of unfound soldiers. Her response to this is one of shock as
she appeared unaware of the multitude of deaths and collapses saying My God, nobody told me . This
emphasises the extent of loss from a postwar perspective, which makes it appear even more tragic. As
Birdsong was written after the war, its purpose was to commemorate the losses and honour the dead,
as well as educate and promote remembrance. Loss features just as graphically in Dulce et Decorum
Est written by Owen during his time in Craiglockheart hospital, as it is a poem that uses Latin to mock
the glory of war and demonstrate the pain and death it can cause. The poem describes a true account of
a soldier being unable to protect himself quickly enough during a gas attack and the haunting effect of

Suburban Baths In Pompeii
The Suburban Baths, built around the end of the 1st century, is located in Pompeii north of the Porta
Marina and near the city walls. Though it was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius on August
24, 79 AD, the volcanic ash from said eruption allowed it to be discovered and restored by the later
half of the 20th century. These baths are well known for their erotic frescoes displayed within the
apodyterium s (the changing room) walls, and presumably out of 16 of the wall paintings, only 8 of
them remain intact today. The remaining erotic frescoes display how images of taboo sex acts in the
Suburban Baths accentuate the normative expectation of dominating men by mocking the depictions
of the dominant women.
Although known for its practicality of bathing, the Suburban Baths was infamous for the sexual
activities that took place with it as well. Sex trade was spread in many venues in Pompeii where
prostitutes and their clients interacted in different locations, including bathhouses. It was believed that
the interactions, although based majorly upon exchange of sex for money, was significantly influenced

The, Landscape, The Seat Of Mr. Featherstonhaugh
In the early nineteenth century, many in this country were searching for an art they could call their
own. Painter, poet, and essayist, Thomas Cole responded to this quest by creating pristine landscape
paintings unlike any yet seen in America. For the purpose of this project, I chose an art piece by Cole
called, Landscape, the Seat of Mr. Featherstonhaugh in the Distance created in 1826. The reason I
chose this specific painting was because of its diverse context, which allowed me to identify various
concepts related to visual perception. The first concept I identify was figure ground segregation.
Figure ground segregation refers to the perceptual separation of an object from its background (CITE).
That is, the figure being the object that attracts attention and is more memorable than the ground. In
the landscape artwork we can see how the cows specially the two closer to us seem to be caught more
of our attention than almost anything else in the painting(e.g. the grass). In this painting the cows are
the figure that stands out from its ground, which would be the grass. Similarly, we can apply this
concept to the big tree on the left side of the cows in the front. The big tree can also be considered to
be the figure as it stands out from the grass as well. Further, the trees further down in the painting that
seem to form kind of an island can also fall into this category given that the group of tress are standing
in the middle of the ground which in this case is the

proves that Yamira is confident enough and that he is going to do all he can to marry this girl. Also this

Marriage is an example of what young girls in Africa and around the world have to experience
because of traditions. In the article The Negative Consequences of Dowry Payment on Women and
Society by Emily Onyango, the author mentions that young girls are not only forced into marriage but
they are seen as property. When women are treated as property, they have no dignity... This means that
parents will not give the girls education, but marry them off instead (Onyango 3). All of the dreams of

The Blue Collar Guys Essay
The Blue Collar Guy
There is a Chinese proverb that says, Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt those
doing it. Steve Olson wrote an essay that talks about that very principle. He titled his essay Year of the
Blue Collar Guys . It is about the hard working blue collar guys (BCGs) living in America, but what
was his purpose in writing about BCGs? What kind of modes of persuasion does he use to persuade
his audience to his way of thinking? How does he respond to the opposing side of his argument, and
what kind of logical fallacies does he use?
First and foremost, what is Olson s purpose in Writing Year of the blue collar guy? His purpose is to

He uses humor to allow his audience to see just how ridiculous yet still amazing BCGs are. For
example, Olson says, These talkers, are the guys we drove from the playgrounds into the libraries
when we were young and now for twenty years or more now we have endured the revenge of the
nerds . (Paragraph four) Though this statement may not be completely accurate, Olson wrote it in a
way that would seem humorous to most of his audience and, still have a hint of legitimacy behind it.
Olson s use of pathos wasn t as effective towards his overall goal of showing Americans how critical
BCGs are. Though he still got his point across, he could have been more convincing if he used a more
logical approach by simply stating the accomplishments that BCGs have done in comparison to white
collar guys would have been a more convincing argument than forming it into a humorous comment.
To any perspective on life, there is always an opposing side, and the opposing side Olson brings up in
his essay is that BCGs are not sophisticated enough to receive the kind of recognition they want. He
states that BCGs have been portrayed as beer drinking, big bellied, bigoted, rednecks who dress badly
. (Paragraph 1) Most people would respond by shooting insults back towards whoever said that. Olson
chooses another approach, surprisingly, he agrees with them. He takes what they say and laughs at it.
After he brings up these insults, Olson continues by saying,

From when Moses was running from the Egyptians to Usain Bolt running track in the 2016 Olympics,

Essay on the American Dream Revised in Song of Solomon
The American Dream Revised in Song of Solomon
America was founded on the belief that all men are created equal. However, a question must be posed
which asks who constitutes men and what is equal ? Africans were taken from their country and
enslaved in America. They had to fight to retain dignity and grace in circumstances that were
deplorable. Even slaves who were well taken care of were not able to realize the dream of being free
again.
In her work, Song of Solomon, Toni Morrison relates a story of the dream of Milkman. Although he is

Milkman must go on a difficult journey. He was never a slave. His family has money and education;
however, Milkman is not satisfied. He longs to be connected to his past. He leaves everything behind
to discover his roots, and his journey, though it leads to his death, is accomplished for he is free. His
dream has been reached, but he cannot reap its benefits. Milkman cannot enjoy the success he shares
with his family until he finds his people from the South. He retraces the history that he gathered from
his family and recounts it to his people in Georgia where he discovers more truth and more myths.
This revisiting of his roots is a characteristic of Africans, even if they are not direct descendants of
Africa. Their dream cannot be accomplished until they are sure where their people belonged centuries
before the recent generations existed.
Pilate is a prime example of not existing in a traditional family setting. When their father died, Macon
and Pilate were separated and sent to live with relatives or, in Pilate s case, live a nomadic life

About 16% of heterosexual couples ages 18 44 are experiencing infertility. Indeed, it is seen in
previous studies that the older the woman the higher the rate of infertility, but recent studies have
indicated that couples ages 19 29 the rate of infertility has increased in a range from 7% to 13.7%. In
addition, infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after a whole year of intercourse without the
use of contraception. Infertility has a very high emotional impact on couples. According to Sher, Davis
and Stoess (2005) When asked what they considered to be a primary problem in their lives, almost 80
percent of the couples replied that it was their inability to conceive. It usually causes emotional pain
amongst couples. Some methods usually used to treat infertility include counseling, surgery to repair

Both approaches focus on subjectivity and the inner world of the experiences in live, however
psychodynamics are focused on the impact of the unconscious mind on meanings, motivations,
behaviours and conscious experiences. They refer to inner conflicts (especially between the different
aspects of the psyche id, ego and superego) and the defensive processes used unconsciously to defend
against the anxiety these conflicts creates, including repression, sublimation, projection and reaction
formation. The aim of psychoanalytic psychotherapy is to release repressed unconscious material by
bringing it into consciousness. The person centred approach primary focus on the significance of a
person s conscious feelings and thoughts while not entirely rejecting the relevance of unconscious
feelings. Thus Rogers says that each person lives essentially in her own particular and subjective

believes that the person s awareness of herself is the most important source of knowledge about her.
The aim of person centred counselling is to help clients restore their ability to become aware of what
they really feel. For this the therapist provides an atmosphere of non evaluative, unconditional regard,

Influences On The Public Perception Of Missing Children
There are many missing children in the world today. We as a society go about our daily activities not
thinking about the criminal actions of others. We are not faced with the concerns of crimes unless we
are the victims. We depend on communication outlets to stay updated with local, state and
international events. The actual number of children missing is alarming and yet unknown. Influences
on the public perception The writer of this chapter pinpointed the views of the world in a great way.
There are many influences on the public perception of missing children. During the reading, it was
noted that media coverage has a significant impact on society s point of view. News media focus on
sensational cases to determine the public s perception of child abductions. (Kappeler Potter, p.54) This
influence can be positive and negative creating fears and myths. The news stories and developing
information regarding missing children determines the interest level of viewers. It has been
determined that society craves drama and action in the news and entertainment. The horror stories
make great media attention. Therefore, the idea of pictures of missing children allows viewers to relate
on a visual level. (Kappeler Potter, p.54) It was enlightening to see that facts presented in the media
can be distorting. The creation of stereotypes regarding the offenders can be misleading as well. The

still is a popular doll for young girls. In the beginning she was popular because she was the 3D version
of the very popular paper dolls, with interchangeable clothing and accessories. Today she is still very
popular and probably for the same reasons; you can buy a variety of different dolls with different

Now a days everyone has some sort of social media page including the younger generations, however
anyone under the age of 18 has to lie on their page because it s not meant for kids. Because of the
expanding popularity of social media I believe that kids are growing up faster than they need to. When
I was younger I was still playing with my Barbie dolls into 8th grade so around 13/14 years old. My
cousin has a 13 year old daughter to constantly posts on facebook how she is going to be alone forever
and that she will never meet a good guy. At 13 years old she should not be concerned about boys,
especially not finding the one she is going to spend the rest of her life with!
This all being said I think that the popularity of social media is taking away from young girls being
young which is causing them to stray away from childhood toys like Barbies and Bratz. Also with the
popularity of an internet meme taking the Barbie and Bratz image and suggesting things in a mature
manner causes people to look at them in a manner aside from being a child s play thing. 4. Do you
think the efforts made by Richard Dickson were the most effective ways to restore the brand? Defend
your answer. I think Richard Dickson did a great job of restoring the brand just based on the 18%
increase in sales in 2009. I love the fact that he mandated that all Barbie products be consistent with
the brand s identity because then when

A Study On Management Practices
MANAGEMENT PRACTICES Last Name/ First Name: Institution Affiliation: Introduction The
changes in the world today are very much tremendous as far as complexity in the way people do
conduct their everyday business is concerned. With the ever growing population that has been brought
by the advancement in technology, businesses are always under pressure to satisfy the consumer s
demand (Medina, 2014). Therefore, each and every day that passes there is always a necessity for
companies and organizations to work on improving their production and services offered to their
esteemed customers. With the fast depletion of resources, companies have had to look for various
ways that they can use to stay relevant in the business world that is changing every day. Several
businesses have invested in technologies due the efficiency regarding the services and products they
offer. Therefore, the companies have now been able to meet the needs of their customers fast and
satisfy them. Thus, the worry of customers meeting their requirements late even though they requested
for it late as a result of the rising population is reduced. Besides technology, several other things also
make a business to stand tall among its competitors. One such business that has incorporated these
other factors besides technology is the Dunkin Donuts store in the Midwest where I am the manager.
The store which is a constituent of the Dunkin Donuts franchisee has over the last two year

Value Of Belongingness Theory
Roy Baumeister and Mark Leary s article attends to develop and evaluate the hypothesis that a need to
belong is fundamental human motivation. This distinct section examined and focused on the
applicability of the need to belong. More precisely, the authors state the hypothesis that human beings
have a certain drive to form and keep at least a minimum amount of positive and significant
interpersonal relationships. The object of the authors is to increase the scholarship around sense of
belonging and advance in the field of psychology and outside of it. It is provided in the beginning of
the article what are the dimensions of this topic and in what context it fits in. At the interdisciplinary
level, the belongingness hypothesis might help psychology in many different ways; one of them is to
recompose itself from the challenge placed by cultural materialism. Thus, the belonging hypothesis
has considerable value for personality and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article also attends to respond how people get motivated from interpersonal bonds. Thus, despite
of the frequent, speculative assertions that people need to belong, the belongingness hypothesis needs
to be critically evaluated. There is an immense necessity for empirical evidence. One of the goals for
this article is to convoke a large body of empirical evidence. Baumeister and Leary are seeking to
examine the vast amount of untested information about need to belong (p.497). In addition, the
authors mention that the hypothesis implies that people should struggle to achieve a certain minimum
amount and quality of social contacts but that once this level is surpassed, the motivation should
diminish. The need is not to all kind of bonds, it has its limitations. Something relevant for the vast
majority of readers is the fact that people will gradually experience less satisfaction on formation of

A localized condition of swelling, growth or bump on the bottom of your foot may be cause for
attention. This may be caused by injury, infection or inflammation. These bumps may be small or
large and may have mild or severe pains that are associated with them. This article will explain
possible causes, treatment, and prevention for bumps on the bottom of your feet.

When friction causes two layers of your skin to separate, a blister is formed. Blisters may appear in
size ranging from the size of acne to three inches in diameter. The raised portion of the blister is filled
with liquid that your body has heal the injured area and to prevent infection. Broken blisters may

The virus entered the body through injured skin. The virus is infectious and may continue to spread
even after treatment. These are normally have the diameter of half of centimeter and are raised about
the same distance, but than can vary in width and depth.
Warts will generally disappear over time, but they can be unsightly or uncomfortable and you may
want to remove them earlier. Liquid nitrogen can be purchased over the counter or administered by a
medical professional. Laser surgery may also remove the wart. Some people have found that covering
the wart for a week with a band aid or duct tape will weaken the wart. Do not attempt to cut off or
cauterize the wart, as there are safer and more efficient means to remove it.
The best way to prevent a wart is to protect your skin from foreign interaction. It is important to
remember that a removed wart does not mean that the virus has left your body. In time, your body
should destroy the virus. The best thing to do is remove the warts as they develop and wait it out.

The Loss Of Innocence In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
Marigolds: The Loss of Innocence In life, it is important to always have a positive outlook when it
comes to negative situations. In the short story, Marigolds by Eugenia Collier, the main character,
Lizabeth, changes from a childish girl to a mature young adult when she realizes the pain she brought
to Mrs. Lottie when her marigolds were destroyed. Her repressed feelings from her father s
breakdown, the hopeless of her financial standing, and her mind s confliction between immaturity and
maturity causes her to commit her last act of childhood, which was ruining Miss Lottie s marigolds.
After seeing the pain in Miss Lottie s eyes, Lizabeth finally understood the true meaning behind the
marigolds and its importance to Miss Lottie. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing her strong father cry in the middle of the night because of the shame he felt in not being able to
support his family influenced Lizabeth to destroy the marigolds in Miss Lottie s yard. When Lizabeth
overhears her father complain to her mother, Lizabeth feels that before her father was strong like a
rock and her mom was fragile, now everything has changed and her dad is broken into pieces. The
man of the household is breaking down, and does not know where he stands anymore nor does
Elizabeth. The world had lost its boundary lines. My mother, who was small and soft, was now the
strength of the family; my father, who was the rock on which the family had been built, was sobbing
like the tiniest child. Everything was out of tune, like a broken accordion (20). When Elizabeth
realizes that her father cannot support her family devastates her and Elizabeth is broken by that
realization. She does not have a stable set of parents who can even rely on each other or themselves,
leaving her to feel lost and hopeless. Elizabeth becomes insecure by the fact of her father crying.
When she realizes she cannot stand anymore confusion in her family, she goes to wake her brother up
and then vents out her angst on the marigolds and this also shows some immatureness in Elizabeth.
Collier also uses elements of characterization like the character s thoughts and actions, to show

  • 2. Synaptic Of Alzheimer s Disease Essay and synapses to prevent amyloidosis and inhibit further aggregation56. In the CNS, nonneuronal cell linages like astrocytes have been reported to have an elevated level of HSPs to target misfolded protein degradation53. However, a major gap in the field is the lack of any such reports about the extracellular chaperons in the protection of CNS and neuronal structure and function. Although not fully understood, but it has been reported that different cells have different susceptibility to proteotoxic stress. The unfolded protein response evoked by cells in response to proteotoxic stress involves an orchestered functioning of the proteostasis pathways57. Neuronal cells and cell of the central nervous system bear an increased risk of being burdened by misfolded protein aggregates under stress or disease conditions. For example, dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra in case of Parkinson s disease, motor neurons in the motor cortex and spinal cord in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cholinergic neurons in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex in case of Alzheimer s disease, are those cells with greater susceptibility in comparison to other cells51. One way of looking at this is to explore the difference in terms of the expression of the proteostasis components in these cells, and that of the pathological marker proteins like amyloid β, α synuclein, Lewy body, huntingtin and bunnina bodies51. A comparison of deficiencies or abnormal expression pattern of proteostasis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Leader As A Strategist The Leader as a Strategist Report Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Redmond, Washington, United States that develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports a wide range of products and services predominantly related to computing through its various product divisions. Established on April 4, 1975 to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800, Microsoft rose to dominate the home computer operating system market with MS DOS in the mid 1980s, followed by the Microsoft Windows line of operating systems. Microsoft is one of the largest software corporations in the world that has diversified in recent years into the video game industry with the Xbox and its successor, the Xbox 360 as well as into the consumer electronics and digital services market with Zune, MSN and the Windows Phone OS. (Microsoft, 2015) Primarily in the 1990s, critics contend Microsoft used monopolistic business practices and anti competitive strategies including refusal to deal and tying, put unreasonable restrictions in the use of its software, and used misrepresentative marketing tactics; both the U.S. Department of Justice and European Commission found the company in violation of antitrust laws. Known for its interviewing process with obscure questions, various studies and ratings were generally favorable to Microsoft s diversity within the company as well as its overall environmental impact with the exception of the electronics portion of the ... • 5. Informative Essay On Cottontail Rabbitss The cottontail rabbit, or Sylvilagus floridanus, is one of the most common mammals in North America. Largely known for terrorizing gardens and melting children s hearts, this animal is considered a pest among some and a harmless critter among others. The cottontail is known for its tall ears, powerful hind legs, and of course, its trademark cotton white tail. Its fur will come in all shades of gray and brown, and it can grow to be up to three and a half pounds. I am proposing a twenty year study of the cottontail rabbit to learn how different impacts on the rabbits world will affect their natural selection process. This means that by the time a doe is caring for her last litter of the season, offspring from her first litter may be tending to their own babies. While cottontail litters are relatively large, consisting of three to eight young, a sparse number will survive to adulthood. Many are lost to predators such as dogs and cats. Others die from a flaw in nest building. The way a mother doe builds a nest makes it very susceptible to filling with water. Entire litters are lost when this happens, as the blind, deaf, and furless baby rabbits drown in their own refuge. Even when cottontails do survive long enough to leave the nest, many are killed within their first year. While this may seem like a tragedy, it is a harsh fact of life for cottontails. During the first year, I will examine how the natural losses in young affect the mother rabbits. I will also pay close attention to how many of the cottontails survive the entire first ... • 9. Policy Changes are Needed in Our Education System Our society has become punitive when dealing with children, so much so that we are deemed, by other nations, the harshest western nation when it comes to juvenile policy and punishment. Unfortunately, this is a true statement when we look at our incarceration rates. Our states and federal prison, local jails, and juvenile detention center are overcrowded, with beds being filled the same day they are vacated. Specifically, our juvenile detention system is serving an alarming amount of children. In fact, it is estimated that 500,000 children enter juvenile detentions center every year, leading to the detention of more than 26,000 juveniles every day (Holman and Ziedenberg, 2006). Unfortunately, studies have found that disability rates among juveniles in detention average around 30% to 50% (Gemeignani, 1994). While some studies indicate the rate of disability is as high as 76% (Quinn et al., 2005). In contrast, the national average of disabilities is estimated at 10% (Butterworth Kovas, 2013). These factors have significant consequences on our society in general. Particularly on our incarceration rates of both juvenile and adults, the enormous cost of incarcerating individuals, the loss of taxpayers and family members, and the overtaxing of a system that cannot treat the large amount of children. The juvenile system differs from the adult system; they focus on the treatment of the child in hopes to repair the issues that have caused the delinquency. As we have seen in other ... As well, the potential benefits and obstacles to these changes will be explored. HEB Manitoba is the pension and benefit provider for 70,000 active and retired healthcare workers in Manitoba. It emerged from the consolidation of three pension plans during two mergers in the mid 1990s. Since the mergers, it has grown from 12 employees to more than 150 employees. It has a proto typical hierarchal organization, with 1 senior executive, 5 executives, 25 managers and approximately 120 employees. Some managers have no employees reporting to them, but managers with direct reports average about eight employees each. The departments divide according to job function, including finance, corporate services, pensions and benefits, disability and information systems. The majority of the departments split into further sub departments, with the largest department, the pension and benefits department, consisting of 57 employees. With Aunt Lydia s presence and words casting a shadow in Offred s mind, she begins to have a sense of normalcy about life in Gilead. The Aunt Lydia s words are so powerful and influential that Offred begins to transform her way of thinking, which mirrors the lack of individuality that she displays. For example, the book begins with the story of an abandoned building in New York City that was sold to the Sisters of Mother Theresa for one dollar, to make it into a home less shelter. The code required that the building should have an elevator. It would cost the Sisters an extra $100,000. The Sisters were willing to use the stairs; the homeless people wouldn t have really cared whether there was an elevator, as long as they had a place to sleep. When the English came to this area of America to settle, they became very fond of Squanto and used him as a translator due to his unique knowledge of the English language acquired through an earlier voyage to Europe. Squanto helped the Pilgrims adapt to their new surroundings by providing them with the knowledge that he and his ancestors used to survive when they first settled in this area. He also acted as an interpreter and a guide to help make the English more comfortable around the indigenous people (). Without Squanto s help, the Pilgrims would probably have had severe famine over the next year, and would have lived in constant fear of their indian neighbors (Johnson p.2); the English could not have survived without the knowledge that Squanto had given them. However, the friendly side of Squanto is traditionally the only one taught to the American public, in which he is portrayed as an extremely friendly Native American who devoted much of his time and effort to helping the European settlers adapt to their newly acquired land. It is true that Squanto was a great help to the English settlers, however many modern texts, articles, and essays concerning Squanto neglect to include his betrayal of many Native American tribes in what is now Connecticut and Long Island(Vine p. 201 ). • 22. Analysis Of Nella Larsen And Chester Himes Essay Nella Larsen and Chester Himes both published novels in the first half of the twentieth century that deal with Black characters passing for white. Particularly because the race of some characters is fairly ambiguous in Larsen s novel, members of the Black race as defined here will include those with any known Black ancestry. Therefore race is being defined with respect to the one drop rule, which dictates that any small presence of African ancestry requires individuals to be granted a hypo descendent racial status. This decision came about because both novels are set and were published during a time when legal racial status largely determined individuals economic power in order to maintain Jim Crow segregation (Davis 17 19). Given this definition of Blackness, both Larsen s Passing and Himes If He Hollers deal with the concept of Blacks passing as white. Himes Robert Bob Jones and Alice Harrison, and Larsen s Irene Redfield and Clare Bellew are all Black characters who are able to pass at some point. On the surface, this is possible simply because those characters all have very light skin. However, it is also true that those same characters either have an apparent respectable status, or both money and a respectable status. This status is determined by such traits as dialect and speech, as well as expensive clothes. These factors all influence whether or not the light skinned Black characters are able to pretend to be white in white spaces. Though they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The Irony Of The Sinner While traveling through Hell, Dante the pilgrim encountered numerous sinners on each level, all prepared to tell their tales of misfortune and transgression. However, though some ask Dante to remember them or tell their stories on Earth, most of them speak for their own gain, not simply to educate Dante on the penalties of their sins. Each sinner appears to wallow in the past, isolating themselves in their sin and occasionally ignoring Dante as a person entirely. Even when these sinners find themselves physically trapped together with another soul, they remain lonely and miserable in their suffering: they have deprived themselves of the forgiveness and love God offered them and now must find something else to love. As they have rejected God, these sinners still seek to fill that void of emptiness to which they have forever condemned themselves. In Dante Alighieri s Inferno, the irony of the sinner s contrappaso reflects the irony that, even in the suffering they have brought upon themselves, they have a misplaced love in their sin in place of the love God offered them. In Canto V, Dante encounters the Francesca and Paulo, who have thrown away their chance for heaven for one another, yet enjoyed the action of sinning itself more then each other s company. In Birdsong Stephen appears a strange and isolated figure at the beginning of the novel who brings with him concepts of unrest, as he possesses a knife with a singular scrupulously sharpened blade which suggests the idea of conflict. As well as losing Isabelle in a romantic sense, he experiences extreme loss and privation throughout his time in the war, particularly the loss of Weir and Jack Firebrace that are dealt with in graphic but simplistic language. This emphasises the extent of loss from a postwar perspective, which makes it appear even more tragic. As Birdsong was written after the war, its purpose was to commemorate the losses and honour the dead, as well as educate and promote remembrance. Loss features just as graphically in Dulce et Decorum Est written by Owen during his time in Craiglockheart hospital, as it is a poem that uses Latin to mock the glory of war and demonstrate the pain and death it can cause. Painter, poet, and essayist, Thomas Cole responded to this quest by creating pristine landscape paintings unlike any yet seen in America. For the purpose of this project, I chose an art piece by Cole called, Landscape, the Seat of Mr. Featherstonhaugh in the Distance created in 1826. The reason I chose this specific painting was because of its diverse context, which allowed me to identify various concepts related to visual perception. The first concept I identify was figure ground segregation. Figure ground segregation refers to the perceptual separation of an object from its background (CITE). That is, the figure being the object that attracts attention and is more memorable than the ground. In the landscape artwork we can see how the cows specially the two closer to us seem to be caught more of our attention than almost anything else in the painting(e.g. the grass). In this painting the cows are the figure that stands out from its ground, which would be the grass. Similarly, we can apply this concept to the big tree on the left side of the cows in the front. The big tree can also be considered to be the figure as it stands out from the grass as well. Further, the trees further down in the painting that seem to form kind of an island can also fall into this category given that the group of tress are standing in the middle of the ground which in this case is the ... (Paragraph four) Though this statement may not be completely accurate, Olson wrote it in a way that would seem humorous to most of his audience and, still have a hint of legitimacy behind it. Olson s use of pathos wasn t as effective towards his overall goal of showing Americans how critical BCGs are. Though he still got his point across, he could have been more convincing if he used a more logical approach by simply stating the accomplishments that BCGs have done in comparison to white collar guys would have been a more convincing argument than forming it into a humorous comment. To any perspective on life, there is always an opposing side, and the opposing side Olson brings up in his essay is that BCGs are not sophisticated enough to receive the kind of recognition they want. He states that BCGs have been portrayed as beer drinking, big bellied, bigoted, rednecks who dress badly . (Paragraph 1) Most people would respond by shooting insults back towards whoever said that.
