Property in Second Treatise of Civil Government and...
Property in Second Treatise of Civil Government and Robinson Crusoe
Both John Locke s Second Treatise of Civil Government and Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe deal
with the question of property. In these two texts, the following questions arise: when does common
property become an individual s property; and what factors make the appropriation of property
justifiable or not? These questions may be answered by looking at each author s political views,
followed by how they are incorporated in their work. Locke outlines the procedures for the transition
of property to private ownership, while Defoe details the way Crusoe appropriates property (i.e., food,
accommodations, and slaves) during the course of his stay on the ... Show more content on

But even though the topic came up incidentally, Locke had much to say about it. He dedicated an
entire chapter in his Treatise to discussing property and its importance in the laws of nature and
government.
Throughout Chapter V of his Second Treatise,
Locke uses the term property ...to connote that something is one s own, either inclusively or
exclusively. That is, anything which is in any sense one s own is one s property. This seems to be the
conventional seventeenth century use of the term (Tully 112).
Locke argues that natural reason...tells us, that men, being once born, have a right to their preservation
(Locke 352). After establishing this principle, Locke continues to surmise that God has given the
earth...to mankind in common. But this being supposed, it seems to some a very great difficulty how
any one should ever come to have a property in any thing (Locke 353). This puzzling question may
have different answers that all seem relative. Nonetheless, says Locke, every man is his own property
and this nobody has a right to but himself (Locke 353). But, beyond this view, where else does private
property originate?
According to Locke, common property becomes individual property the moment one adds his or her
labor to it. As Locke argues,
The labour of his [the

Mikhail Gorbachev
By 1985, reform was hitting the Soviet Union under the leadership of Mikhail Gorbachev. While
Gorbachev respected the KGB s abilities, his new reform policies cut much of the KGB s power
causing several senior KGB officers, to include its chairman Vladimir Kryuchkov, to attempt a coup
during the summer of 1991. The coup failed, resulting in the systematic removal of many military
units from its possession as well as the removal of its domestic security functions and the end of
Soviet Union. Post communist Russia broke what was left of the into several services. The two most
important of these were the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia (SVR) and the Federal Security

doing to stop these attacks? That is complex, one that has been exacerbated by our focus on the
Middle East. While we never took out eye off of Russia, Russia did increase its activities in the U.S.
and other western countries, using the Middle East conflict as cover. Operationally, agents are
attacking us from every front, both in the physical and cyber realms. The National Counterintelligence
and Security Center (NCSC) released a report indicating that Russian intelligence services are
conducting a range of aggressive activities to collect economic information and technology from U.S.
targets, particularly in cyberspace. The NCSC see cyberspace as a particularly vulnerable area for
Russia to exploit in the coming years. They assess that two trends, increased targeting of Russian
immigrants with advanced technical skills and increased economic integration of Russian companies
affiliated with the intelligence services in the U.S., will increase the collection threat from Russia in
the coming years (Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive,

A case study of spinal cord injury
Instructor: Dr. Daniel Kifle
June 16, 2014
A Case of Spinal Cord Injury
1. Describe the functional anatomy of the spinal cord using the following terms: white matter, gray
matter, tracts, roots and spinal nerves. The spinal cord consists of a superficial White matter and a
deep Gray matter. The white matter consists of myelinated axons, which form nerve tracts and the
Gray matter consists of neuron cell bodies, dendrites and axons. The white matter in each half of the
spinal cord is organized into ventral, dorsal and lateral columns. Each column is subdivided into tracts
also called pathways. A collection of axon inside the CNS is called a tract but outside the CNS it is
called a nerve. Spinal nerves arise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quadriplegia is paralysis to some degree in all four limbs. In this type of paralysis, the abdominal and
chest muscles can also be affected, resulting in difficulty breathing, coughing, or clearing the chest. 5.
Define the terms dermatome and myotome and explain how each relates to SCI. Spinal nerves have
motor fibers and sensory fibers. The motor fibers innervate certain muscles, while the sensory fibers
innervate certain areas of skin. A skin area innervated by the sensory fibers of a single nerve root is
known as a dermatome. A group of muscles primarily innervated by the motor fibers of a single nerve
root is known as a myotome. Myotomes are necessary for proper motor functioning; making it
possible to bend the knee, straighten the elbow, flex fingers, and manipulate other muscle groups.
Nerve fibers allowing for the sensation of touch or feeling pain to a corresponding sensory sector of
the skin are dermatomes. These nerves originate from the spine and therefore can be useful in spinal
injuries to evaluate the level of deficit. Pain, lack of sensation, or abnormal functioning of dermatomes
can help pinpoint spinal nerve damage. Each myotome (muscle) and dermatome (region of skin) of
the body is supplied by a particular level or section of the spinal cord and by its corresponding spinal
nerve. There are eight cervical nerves, twelve thoracic nerves, five

The Articles Of Confederation And The United States
The Articles of Confederation were the written document that established the functions of the national
government of the United States after it declared independence from Great Britain. The Articles
provided a system for the Continental Congress to direct the American Revolutionary War, conduct
diplomacy with Europe and deal with territorial issues and Native American relations. The articles
were supposed to be a legislative body serving as the nation s executive rather than a parliament. It
had full power over foreign affairs and questions of war and peace, it could decide disputes between
the states, and it had authority over coinage, the postal service, and Indian affairs as well as the
western territories. Unfortunately, the weakness of the government created by the Articles became a
matter of concern for the American nation. The articles had no courts and no power to enforce its
resolutions and ordinances. It also had no power to levy taxes and had to rely on requisitions from the
states, which state legislatures could ignore. The articles didn t have an executive or judicial branch of
government, nor did it have an administrative head of government, and there were no federal courts
(Shi Tindall, 2013, P.239). America had to change from the articles of confederation to a constitutional
government, to strengthen its government. Shays Rebellion, an armed uprising in Massachusetts

The Negative Impact Of The Truman Show
ABSTRACT
The power of media has evolved so much over the last century and the technologies are getting more
and more advanced. Long time ago, there were paper based media such as books, magazines,
newspapers, flyers and pamphlets. Then radios, TVs and motion pictures came to reality bringing
media messages in real time to the people. Nowadays, it advances to a higher level, with the help of
the internet, the media has expanded itself through the social media. And undoubtedly it has controlled
the society indirectly and it is not stopping any time soon. Thus, it has made an impact in the mass
society in a way that many people depends on the media for their daily activities, such as checking the

Introduction
The Truman Show is a 24 hours live broadcast TV show about the life of a man named Truman
Burbank, who lives in a place called, Seahaven Island. Truman is a nice, friendly person, who works
as a life insurance sales person. He has a great career, a pretty wife whom he dated since high school,
a loyal friend and not to mention he has a decent looking car and house.
II. Media Bubble World
Truman lives a humble life and has a genuine heart, but little does he know, he lives in an artificial
world where he is surrounded by over 5,000 hidden cameras that have been placed all throughout the
island that is enclosed in a giant dome set up. Truman doesn t even know that people are watching his
daily life around the globe 24 hours. He has been the star of the show from the day that he was born.
All of the things he encountered in his lives is staged and scripted, so that Truman would not leave the
dome and the show. In one scene whereby Truman was just outside of his house, he witnessed an
unidentified object, that looks like a studio light fixture, fell down from the sky. He wonders what is
that thing for a while but then brushes it off of his mind. And the next day, he heard in the radio news
that the unidentified fallen object that he saw was actually a part of a plane. This shows how the
producers of the show made up a story so that Truman would maintain his reality about his

Biblical Interpretation
Interpretation presents many challenges that can be difficult to overcome. There seems to be more
challenges that arise when interpreting the Bible. Interpreters face many challenges and the validity of
their methods are sometimes questioned. Although there are challenges to effective biblical
interpretation such as distance of time and geographical location, difference in culture and language,
and human pre understanding and presupposition, these challenges can be overcomed. The challenge
of distance of both time and geographical location is a major issue when one is interpreting the Bible.
The larger of these two is time. The Bible was written centuries ago when everything was different;
even the land and cities looked different when compared to modern day. It is impossible to travel back
in time and see what is depicted in the Bible or to talked to the author to clarify confusion about
particular texts. Research from Archaeological digs and manuscripts will provide a glimpse into the
world of the Bible that seems to be lost, but it will still only be a glimpse ... Show more content on

There is not always an exact translation from language to language nor is the grammatical structure
the exact same. Combined these two challenges and one gets a complicated puzzle that requires time
and deep knowledge to crack. It makes it especially difficult that that languages over the years develop
and change and since the text of the Bible is ancient it makes the task of interpreting that much harder.
There are also words that will not translate over so the translator has to find a substitute for the word
that will lack the depth and meaning of the original. Despite the challenges that the difference in
language creates it is still possible to translate the Bible and worth the effort. Those who are not
fortunate to know the original language have resources to do word studies to better understand the
meaning of the

Miller Beer Ads Essay
Miller Beer Ads
In television commercials and magazine ads, Miller uses sex, and woman as a way to grab your
attention and to sell the product. We all have heard the saying sex sells but how far can alcohol
companies take it. In their latest commercials, Miller uses two very attractive female twins that argue
about to positive aspects for why they drink Miller. One argues she drinks it for the great taste and the
other because it s less filling. This leads to a fight between these two very sexy twins ripping each
others clothes off and wrestling around in a fountain of water; they strip each other down to just their
underwear. Alcohol advertising, especially in the broadcast media, represents the single greatest

Unfortunately, alcohol advertising remains a more significant alcohol educator than parents or the
school system. Alcohol is the only drug for which knowledge about it as a drug decreases, rather than
increases with age. Even fewer 14 year olds identified beer, wine, or liquor as a drug than did their 10
year old counterparts, and the percentage of children who thought daily use of alcohol was harmful
decreased 29 percent from the younger group. Nearly a quarter of the 208,909 TV commercials about
alcohol in 2001 were more likely to be seen by teens than adults. The same study revealed that teens
see more ads for liquor than they do for jeans, acne aids and athletic shoes. The ads appeared during
13 to 15 of the most popular teen shows including WB s Seventh Heaven and Gilmore Girls. The
average young person saw 245 alcohol ads in 2001. Making the highest quality beer has been a
passion of the Miller Brewing Company since its founder, Frederick J. Miller, began his brewing
business in 1855. Since then, Miller Brewing has grown from a small local brewer to the second
largest brewery in the U.S., with seven major breweries located across America. You might recognize

Macbeth Minor Characters
William Shakespeare is known for his amazing use of minor characters to display themes and be
assets to whatever the major character is going through. In the process, Shakespeare generates major
interest from the readers for these minor characters. One may ask, why do I feel so strongly for these
characters? The answer cannot be any clearer; it is because they are presented in a major manner even
though they are minor and in the short amount of time they are seen in the play, they make themselves
stick to the readers. A prime example of this rare capability is presented in Shakespeare s Macbeth. In
this tragedy, Macduff s family is killed in cold blood. But for the amount of time they were presented
in the play, one scene in Act IV Scene ii, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lady Macduff s first words are both a question and an allegation. She asks What had he done to make
him fly the land. (IV.ii.1) This allows one to believe that she thinks the only way Macduff would leave
is if he did something wrong. Lady Macduff then accuses Macduff of not loving him. The anger, hurt,
and feelings of betrayal behind the words of Lady Macduff immediately makes the audience enamored
and captivated by her presence and yearn for her to find out the truth; that Macduff is not a traitor, but
a hero, trying to save the face of the crown. In the situation of Macduff s son, he s confused as to
whether his father is a traitor or not and he denies his father s death twice during this scene. Once
when his mother insists and a second time, shouting to the second murderer Thou liest though shag
haired villain! (IV.ii.79) This demonstrates Macbeth s son loyalty for his father, even he is confused as
to what a traitor is and unsure if his father is alive or dead. Macduff s son s unwavering loyalty for his
father warms the heart of those reading and allows them to feel horror at hid death commanded by no

History of Tango Essay
The man and woman face each other, with the man holding the woman s right hand in his left, and
with his right arm around her. The Tango is the third dance to use this hold for couple dancing. The
Viennese Waltz is the first dance done in this couple hold. It was very popular in Europe in the 1830 s.
Couple dancing before the Viennese Waltz was very formal and did not involve a lot of physical
contact just mainly holding hands. About 10 years after the Viennese Waltz came the Polka. Also
taking Europe by storm, the Polka became the newest craze to use this scandalous new hold. Tango
was extremely different from anything that came before it, and was the biggest influence on all couple
dancing in the Twentieth Century. The story of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this came a mix of cultures and eventually the creation of the Tango. Although it can t be proven
that this is its exact origin this is the theory that is most logical. The relentless rhythms that the African
slaves, the candombe, beat on their drums (known as tan go); the popular music of the pampas
(flatlands) known as the milonga, which combined Indian rhythms with the music of early Spanish
colonists; and other influences, including Latin. Some say the word tango comes from the Latin word
tangere (to touch.) It was the dance of sorrow. It speaks with body language. More then just frustrated
love, it is also said to speak of death and pain. It was the perfect dance for social outcasts; it
epitomized their feelings about their life.
The act in the Tango was originally intended to be for a prostitute and her pimp. Even some titles in
the tango referred to characters in the world of prostitution. Other acts were for two men to fight for
the love of a woman where it would always end in death. The tango was very sexual and violent, not
literally but that s what it was intended to mean.
In 1912 the lower classes were allowed to vote because of the universal suffrage law in Argentina. The
lower class saw to legitimize many of its cultures mainstream, including the Tango. It was still seen as
an obscene dance during this time. When wealthy sons of Argentine society families made their way

Cyber Bullying And Social Media
Bullying and Social Media Virtual harassment is a common and growing occurrence, and offline
intimidation has continually been and remains to be a problem. Bullying of all kinds peaks in Middle
School and in greatest cases spills off by College age, when scholars are more self regulating and
more developed. Shortage of organization amongst school staff, parents and scholars make cyber and
offline bullying a constant risk to young people s assurance and well being. The U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services delivers a much briefer yet wider meaning of the term: Cyber bullying is
bullying that takes place using electronic technology. It goes on to clarify precisely what is intended
by electronic technology as well as gives a very decent impression of the matter, as well as ideas for
action. Much of the government s distress is that bullying, in overall, frequently includes illegal or
criminal behavior. Bullying is unwanted, violent behavior amongst school aged children that includes
a real or apparent power imbalance. According to Graham (2014), The behavior is often repeated and
habitual. One essential prerequisite is the perception, by the bully or by others, of an imbalance of
social or physical power, which distinguishes bullying from conflict. (p. 159). According to Bishop
(2014), Cyberbullying can be seen as being distinct from other forms of online behaviour. Some see
cyber bullying as a form of Cyberstalking, which involves taking a more strategic

Essay on Maria Martinez and Her Pueblo Pottery
Maria Martinez and Her Pueblo Pottery
One of the most well known figures of the twentieth century pottery world is Maria Martinez. Maria
Martinez is a Pueblo Indian part of the San Ildefondo tribe. Pueblo pottery from the American
Southwest holds a unique place in ceramic art forms of American art. It is full of age old tradition and
culture handed down form family members and potters of the past. The old Pueblo ways of creating it
still hold true today and have not been changed or influenced like so many other styles in modern
times.

The challenge of the task took over the need to make new work or simply utilitarian work. It became
her focal point of all her pottery work and effort. The work was an old style. One more labor intensive
and eventually discarded. As with many other art forms, the original format is often considered less
effective because it produces fewer actual pieces or the intended art. In reality, the tenacious effort
applied in careful traditional processes allows the soul of the artist to infuse the artwork with the true
intended meaning. It has been termed, ? black on Black? work. (Peterson 23)
?Black on Black? sounds as though it may be an unimaginative concept, however, on the contrary it is
truly subtle work, as a matte finish black surface is balanced and blended with a shiner, polychrome
black. Could it be that the juxtaposition of the finishes serves as a metaphor for light in the darkness
compared to flat darkness? Only Maria truly knows. It is almost as though a soft black is shadowed
next to a bright one and the combination of both, create a piece visually greater that is the two finishes
were to stand alone on two separate pieces. Therefore, what Maria has created in what at first seems to
be a simple piece of ceramics, is actually a representation of her own views on spirituality and beauty
(Peterson 37).
By 1918, the years of effort, hard work, and dedication to their passion had paid off for Maria and her
husband Julian. The two had perfected

Tabata et al. (2003) used hydraulic geometry to describe morphodynamics of anastomosing Columbia
river. Jain and Sinha (2004) discussed about causative factors and mechanism of fluvial dynamics of
anabranching Baghmati river system. In their study they have observed that anabranching phenomena
of Baghmati river only occurs along middle river course. The authors suggested that inability to
transport high sediment load due to gentle channel slope and dominance of aggradation processes are
responsible for anabranching of Baghmati river. Luchi et al. (2007) investigated small alpine river to
monitor morphodynamics of channel. Their study reveals that the longitudinal variations in grain size

morphological changes are not only associated with the spatio temporal variations in discharge and
channel processes but it largely follows the episodic autogenic feedback mechanism. Sinha and

The cost of the device is over one million dollars, and does not include the cost of software upgrades,

expensive device is expected to have a positive return on investment, which will more than cover the

organizations establish a strategy that will sustain a profit. When considering costs, organizations need
to know what it can afford to pay, while taking into account the prices the market allows, as well as
allowing a profit. According to the article by Sorenson, Drummond and Burns, when using the

average costs. This particular pricing strategy includes add on payments based on the higher cost of
the device. The high cost of the BrightMatter device will allow Henry Ford Hospital to receive add on

Biography of Mao Zedong
INTRODUCTION
Born on December 26, 1893, Mao Zedong was the founding leader of the People s Republic of China
and ruled as the Chairman of the Communist Party of China from 1949 up until he died on September
the 9th, 1976. He is largely accredited with crafting the post revolution policies known as the Great
Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution (Joseph, 1986) which have left many critics arguing that
the political and economic devastation those policies left are what define his legacy. Mao Zedong
however, left a legacy that far outweighs the aforementioned argument.
How Mao improved CHINA internally
Mao Zedong s most central passion was his insistence in the empowerment of the peasants. Once Mao
Zedong ascended to leadership, land reform became the principal feature of the Chinese Communist
Party line (Chang, 2014). In 1950 he oversaw the implemented the Agrarian Reform Law
(Encyclopedia Britannica, 2014) which gave the land to the peasants, and authorised people s courts to
try their former landlords. Subsequently, the agrarian reform re assigned more than half the land to the
peasants meaning that 300 million peasants were effectively given 47 million hectares of land.
Additionally, Mao empowered peasants by giving jobs to peasants from the countryside and
prioritising them in the industrialisation process which led to the dramatic reduction in the
unemployment levels and introduction of insurance for workers.
Under Chairman Mao, the public healthcare system

Gravimetric Analysis Of Copper Chloride Hydrate
Chemical formulas are central to chemistry; they describe, identify, and predict the properties of
compounds. Chemical formulas can be found by a process called gravimetric analysis in which
components of a compound are isolated, their masses are found, and the mass differences recorded.
Gravimetric analysis can be helpful when finding the formula of an ionic hydrate, an ionic crystal
bound to water molecules because it allows for the mass of water to be found allowing for further
separation of the remaining elements in the ionic compound. When water is removed from an ionic
hydrate, the ionic hydrate becomes an anhydrous ionic compound. Additionally, because of the Law of
Definite Proportions, the ratio of moles of water released to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

masses were then used to determine the mass of copper, chlorine, and water in the unknown copper
chloride hydrate. The resulting masses were used to find the formula of the unknown copper chloride
hydrate according to CuxClynH2O.
Results
The mass of water in the unknown Copper Chloride Hydrate is 0.22g, as found by the difference in
mass between the sample before and after heating. The mass of copper is 0.29 grams, and the mass of
chlorine is 0.49 grams. These values were found by isolating the copper then subtracting the mass of
the copper from the mass of the sample after heating to determine the mass of chlorine. The masses
were converted into moles with the general formula 1 mole/Molar Mass x mass of given
element/compound. For example, the moles of copper were found by multiplying 0.29 grams by 1
mole/63.546 grams (Molar Mass of copper),

College Physics Personal Statement
Ever since I was a little kid, I had been fascinated by the idea of an infinite universe. I would watch
shows like Mythbusters, Cosmos and Through The Wormhole and I would be fascinated by the idea of
several interwoven phenomena coming together to form one distinct unified theory to explain the
working of our entire physical universe. My mind would ponder questions way beyond the
understanding of myself as well as most of the scientific community. Questions like What was the
origin of the universe really like? or What s really going on inside a black hole? . Even though I have a

Film Techniques In Memento
Christopher Nolan s Memento
June 15, 2001 was business as usual for the Hollywood. The usual string of expensive summer

unlike almost every other celebrated puzzle film in cinematic history Memento s puzzle can t be

Analyzation Of Real Estate In U.S. Today. The Real Estate
Analyzation of real estate in U.S. today The real estate industry is a major business producing billions

Prevention of Employee Theft Essay
Prevention of Employee Theft
Why do employees feel free to steal? Most employee theft occurs because it is too easy. What can a
company do to prevent employee theft? What should a company do to employee thieves? The
following paragraphs summarize a few ideas.
Employee theft is a crime that is costing U.S. companies a great deal of money. Employee thefts are
growing in number, partially because the perpetrators really do not see themselves as criminals and
rationalize what they are doing in much the same way as taxpayers rationalize income tax fraud.
Employee theft is one of many personnel problems that is easier to prevent than to solve. Prevention

Other techniques include limiting the likelihood of collusion by regularly changing work team
assignments, strengthening internal control, and separation of duties. A phony theft might also be set
up to see how quickly managers and staffers report it.
Another way that might prevent employee theft is through surveillance. In the early 1990 s Long John
Silver s Restaurants, Inc. installed surveillance cameras in their stores after having a history of internal
losses. The cameras proved to work during one of many instances. One instance included a young
cashier who had stolen over eighty dollars in less than two hours while working at the Long John
Silver s drive through window. Unfortunately for her, in the ceiling, over the drive through register, a
surveillance system had recorded her every move.
When presented with the videotaped evidence during a security interview, the cashier confessed to
stealing more than $500 in five weeks. The employee later pled guilty to felony theft charges. She was
ordered to make restitution to Long John Silver s for the full amount of her confessed theft. The
restaurant recovered the stolen money and avoided the greater expense of prosecuting the theft (Price).

Acid Base Balance
The acid base balance is a homeostatic process that aides the body in maintaining a pH in the arterial
blood between 7.35 7.45 (Patient, 2015). The body works together through multi systems to ensure
that acidity or alkalinity never take over within the blood. The purpose of the following paper is define
the classification of the acid base balance, define the factors from the case study, explain the
pathophysiology, describe the compensatory mechanisms, pharmacological interventions, and the
educational needs of patients with an imbalance.

Another major factor that the patient did was self prescribe antacids for the stomach issues (Grand
Canyon University, 2015). Metabolic alkalosis occurs from excessive intake of antacids. Antacids are
calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide and sodium bicarbonate (Human Touch of Chemistry,
2015). With the vomiting and loss of gastric secretions, HCO3 began to build up in the body. For the
stomach upset, the patient began to add more HCO3 formularies to the stomach, which increased the
levels of HCO3 in the body.
Pathophysiology
There are different ways that metabolic alkalosis can occur. Generally, the imbalance occurs from a
loss of hydrogen ions, a shift of hydrogen ions into the intracellular space, and administration of
antacids (Medscape, 2015). Hydrogen ions are lost from the kidneys and the gastrointestinal tract,
which occurs from vomiting and diarrhea. When hydrogen ions are excreted from the body,
bicarbonate ions are added to the intracellular space (Medscape, 2015).
Compensation Mechanism
When homeostasis is disrupted, the body will respond in several ways. Depending upon the
imbalance, the body will work to quickly correct the problem and restore the body to homeostatic
state. There are organ systems involved to correct the issues, like the renal and respiratory systems.
When the body breathes, the lungs blow off carbon dioxide that has built up in the body.

Analysis Of The Singer Solution To World Poverty By Peter...
Poverty in Children
Peter Singer the author of the story The Singer Solution to World Poverty which talks about how
humans are selfish and spend their extra money on luxuries instead of donating it to charities to help
starving children. Singer rambles back and forth how greedy we are and tries to make us feel guilty for
those innocent starving children. Children that we suddenly have to care about just because they re
almost dead Children are the ones to care about in this situation instead of spending our money on
whatever we want we have to spend it on children you might as well have children of your own if you
re doing that. In a way when you donate money to a charity you re just giving up your extra but like
having a child your giving up extra for others Why would I give my hard earned cash to some five
year old across the planet when someone closer and richer could do the same and let me be so I can
enjoy my wealth. I agree but I also disagree with Singer that the starving children need to be saved,
but I don t think this is the right solution to fixing the problem because it can cause more problems for
everyone over a course of years.
Singer is just trying to persuade us by saying children are starving do something don t be selfish and
keep your money on you it makes you look bad I don t really see it as bad if you re being smart with
your money and not greedy there s a big difference between the two and for even saying that I don t

Reasons To Stop Multitasking Summary
Peter Bregman, the CEO of Bregman s company, is the author How and (why) to Stop Multitasking .
In his article published in Harvard Business Review Blog in May 2010, he establishes the importance
and effectiveness of single tasking. He states that multitasking, in fact, reduces our productivity, being
the reason why it isn t as useful as people believe it is. As well, he argues that by not multitasking
people end up being unstressed, patient, and more useful with their time; demonstrating his opposition
towards multitasking. Bregman implies the importance of unitasking by emphasizing the positive
impact it had on his family, building credibility with his personal experiences as a CEO, and
presenting facts. For Bregman, single tasking entails an improvement in the working area and personal

Accuracy In Michael Cunningham s Specimen Days
Michael Cunningham s strange and elegiac Walt Whitman hued novel Specimen Days is prefaced with
an author s note in which Cunningham succinctly articulates the dilemma historical fiction forces on a
writer: Novelists must usually decide what degree of slavish accuracy would make their stories more
alive, and what degree would make them less. Still, he writes, there are some novelists, who wouldn t
think of tampering with recorded fact, and I know and greatly admire a certain writer who invents
everything... When questioned about it, he simply says, It s fiction.
For much of my life as a reader, I tended to side with the certain writer, insofar as I didn t much care
about hyper accurate details about details in general, to be honest. I tire easily of lengthy description
and rigorous itemizing. My inner imagination doesn t really incorporate them into its narrative vision,
anyway. And since I only possess a selective knowledge of history, precise allegiance to recorded facts
or exact procedures has always been less important to me than dramatic artistry. Story was all it didn t

The importance of culture and organizational structure and the integration between them is discussed
in depth as well, in order to state the factors that need to be focused on for design of an enterprise.
Bernard has further elaborated on various organization models and scrutinized them to justify the
distinction between organization and enterprise. Associated risks and process of estimating the cost
and benefits are eventually explored, covering several important aspects of EA.
Evaluation
Enterprise Architecture is defined as a coherent whole of principles, methods, and models that are
used in the design and realization of an enterprise s organizational structure, business processes,
information systems, and infrastructure (Lankhorst et al, 2012). Over time, EA has become an integral
part of organization s strategy rather than being a mere guideline, (Vaidyanathan, 2005) motivating
organizations to design business aligned enterprise systems. The author s representation of EA as a
strategy, business and technology driven process and its meta disciplinary role thus seems accurately
described. Decisions taken are often incomplete without an adequate decision supporting frameworks
(Narman, 2012). Several organizations have adopted EA frameworks in order to maintain links with
other systems and ultimately create integrated systems, similar to building blocks that fit together
(Shah and Kourdi, 2007). The author s knowledge

However, as discussed in this study, hallmark events not always bring only positive effects. For
example, in 2010 South Africa hosted less tourists as it was predicted and faced intense public
investment, as a result there has been a consequent fall in GDP. Although, the Olympic Games in
London in 2012 had more positive impacts, such as economy growth through the job generation,
investments and additional spending by tourists (Bevan, 2014). At the moment, it seems that the FIFA
World Cup did not boost Brazilian economy, however, it raised an awareness about the difficulties that
Brazil is facing, such as human trafficking and increasing level of poverty. It can be stated that several

the FIFA World Cup did not improve ecological situation of Brazil, did not help the underclass to deal

that there is a bigger need in improving education system, health care and living conditions of society

Maine Coon Research Paper
Maine Coon are generally regarded as one of the oldest cat breeds in
America. These cats are native to Maine, and are also seen as the State Cat . They get their names
from an old urban legend, saying that it was born through the breeding of a long haired domestic cat
and a racoon, creating a Maine Coon Cat .
Although this is not possible, it s interesting to think about when you see this cat.
Looking at it, you can understand how some people would have gotten that confused. They have large

instead of sinking straight down), and a

giant cuddly goofballs, which make them so interesting. Most breeders these days agree that the
Maine Coon is a mix between a long haired domestic cat, and a larger cat from overseas. One of my
favorite theories is that these cats came to America, long before it was an established colony, from the
Vikings. They are built extremely similar to the Norwegian Forest
Cat, which is a relative to the cats Vikings used to have on their ships as mousers.
They tend to hail from the same type of environment, even though they are geographically so far
away. Another theory is that they descended from the long haired cats of Marie Antoinette, who had
plans of fleeing France, and finding some peace in America. She put her cats on a boat, and was ready
to get out. She didn t make it, obviously, but maybe her cats did at some point.

The Four Evangelists
Out of the four Evangelists, I find Mark to be the most intriguing. Not because he had the first gospel
to be composed, but his drive and affection for Jesus. I will be discussing the play Everyman and how
Mark s purpose to encourage a group undergoing difficult trials and persecutions correlates with the
play both philosophically and aesthetically. Everyman summarizes that every person will be asked
about their sins and good deeds. Mark on the other hand (also Matthew), both say the same thing
about Jesus when he s resurrected. My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Just). This shows
that Mark was very big on salvation. He wanted people who committed sins in his community to be
rectified by Christ. This is why he says those seven ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His first words correlates yet contradicts in what Everyman says because it s like a moral allegory
(Fiero, pg. 3). Everyman basically wants all Christian souls to be petrified of resurrection, but they
want them to repent while Mark looks at it in a much more optimistic way. He not only wants them to
repent, but wants them to be ready for the return of Christ. Persevere in faith despite suffering; follow
Jesus on the way to the cross; be ready for his return (Just). Although Mark showed lots of love and
devotion towards Christ, he s the only evangelist to describe his agony and tragic death. He viewed
Jesus as Gods persecuted one because of him dying and feeling abandoned (PBS). The lion with wings
symbolizes the Evangelical Mark. This not only shows his bravery, but why he would fit inevitably in
Everyman. It s only for strong Christian believers like Mark, but, of course, there are many more
strong believers. Throughout Everyman you see the Christians repeat the same thing which is
repenting to God for their sins. Mark although who encourages people to repent doesn t say it as often,
but often mentions people committing good sins. They re very similar it s just that Everyman believes

I think what Mrs. Soames ment by this was being born is an wonderful thing. Just like what they said
when you are born it is natures attempt to make a perfect child. So you have to make the most of you
life. You just cant sit around and do noting you have to do something meaningful in your life time.
Then she said that life was awful. What I think that she ment by this was life is wonderful but you
have to live life to love life. Death is the main part she talks about. So just dont lie around and do
noting you have to do something in your life.
8. How does Thornton Wilder reflect the theme of carpe diem in this play?
Thornton Wilder gave us a lot of life lessons in the play. the most meaningful one that I think of is
when Emily goes back in time and visits her 12th birthday. Everyone talked her out of doing a big
event so she choose this date. They said this date would overwhelm her. It did overwhelm her so must
that she had to leave in the first 10 minuets. When she got back she noticed that everyday is a treasure

Governing The Commons Summary
When the subject comes to the use of the natural resources in the public space in the world, where
scarcity prevails, Elinor Ostrom, the author of the book Governing the Commons (1990), argues that
nor a totally centralized control of the common pool resources is a solution, nor a full accessibility to
everyone is a way to go either. Based on the paradox, that even though individuals are rational, by
acting rationally they will likely contribute to collectively irrational outcomes , Ostrom critiques the
three approaches that have been applied (at least in the theory) to resolve the distribution of the
common pool resources. The first approach is known as The tragedy of the commons, which presumes
that every (common pool) user has a good nature and does not cheat. This approach results in the
degradation of the environment as many individuals use a scarce resource in common. (p16) The
second approach is Prisoner s Dilemma, in which an actor makes a rational choice based on cost
benefit analysis. This approach implies two strategies: cooperate or defect . Cooperate strategy would
mean that the participant cooperates and shares the common pool resource equally, whereas defect
strategy , a strategy that more likely would be chosen due to lack of communication between the
parties, implies that the participant uses/extracts as much resource as he can sell for profit (p.18) The
third is the Collective Action approach, which suggests that proportionally to the size of the group,
there is a necessity that someone (external) comes in and regulates it. ... Show more content on

Vance, D. E. (2003) states that it is another way to think about the risk of leading to, or investing in a
company. These two companies both experienced a drop on this ratio from 2004 to 2005, 0.35 for
WOW and 0.3 for CML in 2005.
3. Financial leverage
Equity ratio debt ratio
Equity ratio and debt ratio are both designing for capital structure and they are negatively related with
each other. The cost of equity is higher than the cost of debt, but shareholders will not require
companies to repay them dividends and principals any time. However, companies must pay the debt
holders interests and principals each year. And increasing leverage ratio will result in increasing the
return to shareholders, yet at the same time, it will increase the repayment commitments and then raise
the risk to company and shareholders.
CML s equity ratio increased to 0.4 and correspondingly debt ratio decreased to 0.15 from 2001 to
2005. Generally it is a good trend, even though there has been a decrease in equity ratio in 2005 from
0.45 to 0.40 and an increase in debt ratio from 2004 to 2005, it may be due to the acquisition from US
group KKR. However, in 2005, equity is almost three times debt, which means the capital structure is
still in good condition.
On the other hand, WOW experienced a different trend that its equity ratio has decreased from 0.30 to
0.25, and debt ratio has significantly increased from 0.13 to 0.32 between 2001 and 2005. WOW

  • 2. Property in Second Treatise of Civil Government and... Property in Second Treatise of Civil Government and Robinson Crusoe Both John Locke s Second Treatise of Civil Government and Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe deal with the question of property. In these two texts, the following questions arise: when does common property become an individual s property; and what factors make the appropriation of property justifiable or not? These questions may be answered by looking at each author s political views, followed by how they are incorporated in their work. Locke outlines the procedures for the transition of property to private ownership, while Defoe details the way Crusoe appropriates property (i.e., food, accommodations, and slaves) during the course of his stay on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But even though the topic came up incidentally, Locke had much to say about it. He dedicated an entire chapter in his Treatise to discussing property and its importance in the laws of nature and government. Throughout Chapter V of his Second Treatise, Locke uses the term property ...to connote that something is one s own, either inclusively or exclusively. That is, anything which is in any sense one s own is one s property. This seems to be the conventional seventeenth century use of the term (Tully 112). Locke argues that natural reason...tells us, that men, being once born, have a right to their preservation (Locke 352). After establishing this principle, Locke continues to surmise that God has given the earth...to mankind in common. But this being supposed, it seems to some a very great difficulty how any one should ever come to have a property in any thing (Locke 353). This puzzling question may have different answers that all seem relative. Nonetheless, says Locke, every man is his own property and this nobody has a right to but himself (Locke 353). But, beyond this view, where else does private property originate? According to Locke, common property becomes individual property the moment one adds his or her labor to it. Describe the functional anatomy of the spinal cord using the following terms: white matter, gray matter, tracts, roots and spinal nerves. The spinal cord consists of a superficial White matter and a deep Gray matter. The white matter consists of myelinated axons, which form nerve tracts and the Gray matter consists of neuron cell bodies, dendrites and axons. The white matter in each half of the spinal cord is organized into ventral, dorsal and lateral columns. Each column is subdivided into tracts also called pathways. The motor fibers innervate certain muscles, while the sensory fibers innervate certain areas of skin. A skin area innervated by the sensory fibers of a single nerve root is known as a dermatome. A group of muscles primarily innervated by the motor fibers of a single nerve root is known as a myotome. Myotomes are necessary for proper motor functioning; making it possible to bend the knee, straighten the elbow, flex fingers, and manipulate other muscle groups. Nerve fibers allowing for the sensation of touch or feeling pain to a corresponding sensory sector of the skin are dermatomes. These nerves originate from the spine and therefore can be useful in spinal injuries to evaluate the level of deficit. Pain, lack of sensation, or abnormal functioning of dermatomes can help pinpoint spinal nerve damage. The Articles Of Confederation And The United States The Articles of Confederation were the written document that established the functions of the national government of the United States after it declared independence from Great Britain. Then, the filter paper was placed on the vacuum flask, which was turned on, and the copper solution was poured over it. The copper was also rinsed with 95% ethanol solution before being set on a paper towel to dry. Finally, one day after the previous step, the copper was weighed, and its mass recorded. The recorded masses were then used to determine the mass of copper, chlorine, and water in the unknown copper chloride hydrate. Governing The Commons Summary When the subject comes to the use of the natural resources in the public space in the world, where scarcity prevails, Elinor Ostrom, the author of the book Governing the Commons (1990), argues that nor a totally centralized control of the common pool resources is a solution, nor a full accessibility to everyone is a way to go either. Based on the paradox, that even though individuals are rational, by acting rationally they will likely contribute to collectively irrational outcomes , Ostrom critiques the three approaches that have been applied (at least in the theory) to resolve the distribution of the common pool resources. The first approach is known as The tragedy of the commons, which presumes that every (common pool) user has a good nature and does not cheat. This approach results in the degradation of the environment as many individuals use a scarce resource in common. Cooperate strategy would mean that the participant cooperates and shares the common pool resource equally, whereas defect strategy , a strategy that more likely would be chosen due to lack of communication between the parties, implies that the participant uses/extracts as much resource as he can sell for profit (p.18) The third is the Collective Action approach, which suggests that proportionally to the size of the group, there is a necessity that someone (external) comes in and regulates it. ...
