The Book Summary In John Steinbeck s The Pearl
The book The Pearl takes place in a small fishing village in La Paz, Mexico. The main characters are
from an Indian tribe that live on the beach in brush houses, since Spaniards have kicked them out of
their homes. There is a poor fisherman named Kino, his wife Juana, and their son Coyotito. One day
Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion, but the family cannot support the cost of the treatment, so they go
and try to find a pearl to then sell. When looking in the water, Kino finds a magnificent, shiny, big,
and beautiful pearl. However, when going to sell it Kino does not like the prices the pearl buyers will
buy it for, so he decides he will cross the sea and the mountains to the Capital. I think what drives
Kino through the book is a fear of the amount of money he will earn, being cheated with the value of
the pearl, and Juana and Coyotito s safety from attackers/trackers. To begin, what drives Kino is fear
of not getting the correct amount of money he needs from the pearl to supply all the things he desires.
First of all, this is because Kino explains that the pearl is worth more than what the pearl buyers are
willing to pay for it. The first pearl buyer says, I can give you, say, a thousand pesos. Kino s face grew
dark and dangerous. It is worth fifty thousand, he said (50). He later says he will go to the Capital and
sell it there instead, but I can tell Kino is worried of what is to come, and if he will get the correct
amount of money for the pearl. Following, Kino

Characteristics Of Late Talkers
Introduction
Practicing Speech Language Pathologist are constantly looking for effective ways to solve parent
concerns. Exploring the best practices a clinician should consider when providing intervention for
children who are late talkers is a constant premise for research. Late talkers are characterized as
children with limited expressive language abilities at an early age with no other known etiologies
(Kouri, 2005). Roughly 15% of children by age 2 show signs of different developmental language
impairments (Roberts, Kaiser, Wolfe, Bryant, Spidalieri, 2014). Hall and Elliman states that a primary
language delay remains one of the most prevalent developmental delays in early childhood,
particularly in disadvantaged areas (as cited in Gibbard Smith, 2016).
Risk factors for late talkers include male gender, family history, and early neurobiological growth
(Zunrick, Taylor, Rice, Slegers, 2007). Characteristics associated with late talkers are children with a
known vocabulary of less than 50 words and no two word combinations (ASHA, n.d.). Some other
communicative characteristics these children may have are comprehension problems, use of gestures
instead of verbal communication, short utterances, and minimal complex syllable construction.
Vocabulary acquisition is also just as important as language acquisition because it predicts reading
skills and school readiness (McLeod, Hardy, Kaiser, 2017). School readiness is especially important
because it allows for

Analysis Of Cosi Fan Tutte
Avtaran Jain Cosi Fan Tutte Review Many have heard the saying that art does not have a language
barrier. However, there are times when the expression above fails to hold true for a performance. It in
during these times, that the unison of the audience breaks, and a dichotomy forms. My recent
experience with the play, Cosi Fan Tutte was somewhat similar to the events described above.
Although Cosi Fan Tutte attempts to establish itself in the hearts of the crowd through its talented and
experienced cast, it ultimately fails due to its tediously repetitive song structure and narrow intended
audience. The adeptness and dexterity of an individual have always been fundamental talents to look
for when viewing a performance. These individuals are the one that help the event advance to success.
When it comes to the qualities mentioned above, the cast of Cosi Fan Tutte definitely possess most.
Because Cosi Fan Tutte is a performance written by Mozart, it comes as no surprise that the level of
singing and acting required is highly demanding even for veterans in the industry. Yet, despite all these
hurdles, the cast of the performance is able to captivate and delight the audience through its
outstanding vocal finesse and entertaining characterization. Ferrando, played by Carlos Feliciano and
Guglielmo, played by Eli Glick are the stars of the show, displaying their level of musical acumen
through songs such as Una bella serenata and E voi ridete which require a vocal

Polyvagal Theory
The Polyvagal theory developed by Stephen Porges and introduced in 1994 provides new insight into
the functioning of the autonomic nervous system. The theory provides a clear understanding of the
nervous system which plays a huge role for dancers as it can influence mental and physical
performance, as well as keeping pain free.
The trial program
The research undertaken in the trial was conducted in order to test and discover the level to which
applying the Polyvagal theory can improve a dancers physical performance.
The aims of the research conducted were to:
Identify the level that the Polyvagal theory takes effect on physical performance.
Identify the ways in which the theory can be applied and when it is best to
By conducting a trial utilising the application of the theory it had the ability to further determine the
effectiveness through the effect the exercises had on the participants.
The Trial ran over a course of 20 days and involved pre trial questions followed by sets of exercises to
finish with follow up questions that recorded progress and improvement.
The theory background to the trial
Porges theory recognises his important discoveries on the vagus nerve which changed previous
understanding and functioning of the autonomic nervous system. Prior to this discovery, it was
understood that the system operated in a balanced sympathetic/parasympathetic way. Porges research
changed the outlook and understanding on the system, firstly with the vagus nerve in mammals having
two branches, and secondly that the newest branch is able to prevent other nervous system activity.
When the vagus nerve is activated it allows the parasympathetic nervous system to enjoy a state of
health, growth, and restoration in which is the preferred state for optimal function. The sympathetic
system is capable of movement and decides whether to flee or fight in the presence of danger. The last
line of defence is the parasympathetic nervous system 2 which immobilises and shuts down the body.
The vague nerve is activated during exhalation so when the exhale is not completed properly and the
breath is held longer, it is in theory preventing the opportunity to obtain a healthy state.
If trouble is found with the vagal

Mending Wall Annotation
The desire to discover something can be the effect of the human condition or metaphysical with the
idea of emotions causing transformation of perspectives of oneself and the world. In Frost s poem
Mending Wall , a contemplation regarding the repairing of a wall between a persona and their
neighbour reveals that they hold conflicting views about the necessity of a wall. It is shown that the
persona disapproves the mending of the wall through the personification of apple trees. The persona
uses it as a logical example of the futile nature of having fences for fruit trees; thus, the composer
challenges not just the neighbour but also the audience to speculate the reasons for having a fence. A
bitter clash of opinions is unveiled when the persona ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The protagonist is a man who experiences a series of events in attempt to pursue a girl he has never
had any verbal interaction with. An element of romance is prevailed through the establishing shot
where winds blow a piece of paper with the girl s lipstick stain and coincidentally lands on the man.
This is a metaphor for fate, although it is juxtaposed by a reverse shot, where it shows the man that he
is unaware that the women has left and this experience is shared with the audience. Thus, it creates an
impact on the audience as well leaving them wondering whether the man and the women will ever see
each other again. A high angle shot is established in the following scene where he is relishing the piece
of paper that was originally owned by the girl. It depicts that the man desires to see her again. The
man experiences an unforeseen turn of event when he realises the girl is in the building across from
his work office. He attempts to create dozens of paper planes and toss them, at the window where she
is standing, in order to get her attention. The anthropomorphism of the planes is a manifestation of the
self discovery of his desire to be with her and is complemented with jubilant music, which gradually
increases in volume and drowns out the

Media Violence and Its Effect on Society
Media Violence And Its Effect On Society
Does entertainment influence society s attitude towards violent behavior? In order to fully answer this
question we must first understand what violence is. Violence is the use of one s powers to inflict
mental or physical injury upon another; examples of this would be rape or murder. Violence in
entertainment reaches the public by way of television, movies, video games, music, and novels.
Violent images on television, as well as in the movies, have inspired people to set spouses on fire in
their beds, lie down in the middle of highways, extort money by placing bombs in airplanes, rape,
steal, murder, and commit numerous other shootings and assaults. Over 1,000 case studies have
proven that media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These children do not understand that the violence is shown strictly because the public wants to see it.
They cannot grasp the meaning of ratings and entertainment as well as adults can. All they know is, if
the TV portrays violence as cool, then it must be cool! The problem isn t the violence in the media
though; it is the media s failure to show the consequences of violence. This is especially true of
cartoons, toy commercials, and music videos. Children often do not realize that it hurts to hit someone
else because they see it all the time on TV. Everyday a cartoon character is beat up, injured, or killed,
only to return in the very next episode, good as new. As a result, children learn that there are few, if
any repercussions for committing violent acts.
In a recent incident in Norway, two children beat another child by jumping and kicking the child in the
head and other parts of her body numerous times. As a result, the child died from being left out in the
cold because she was not able to move due to her injuries. Later the officials had discovered that the
barbaric incident was due to the fact that the children had watched the violent cartoon Mighty
Morphin Power Rangers. The children thought that the girl would later get up because in the show the
characters never die. Consequently, the show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was canceled
throughout Norway.

The Influence of Historical and Theoretical Factors
Domestic Violence CJCU 416 OL1
Every year in America, there are millions of women who are physically assaulted by their partners
(Tjaden Thoennes, 2000). This number is staggering. For the purpose of this literature review, I am
defining domestic violence as physical abuse. As domestic violence increases, the need for
intervention ever so in demand. Tjaden Thoeness (2000), describe how the widespread occurrence of
domestic violence is influenced by historical and theoretical factors and this is evident with domestic
violence intervention. Both of these factors encourage options for treatment for the victims and
abusers of domestic violence.
Kaya Cook (2010), discusses how a well known Nation started a major movement which targeted
violence against women. Empowerment of women is a key source in violence intervention. Previously
the traditional role of a woman was to known as a homemaker. Educated women were rare to find. As
society is growing, women have received more political and social rights and feel more empowered.
Women who have access to work and education gain a greater chance of escaping male violence
(Kaya Cook, 2010). Factors are education, income, age, drug abuse or abuse history. Prevention
tactics at this level are often considered to stimulate attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that in the end
reduce violence. Kaya Cook (2010) also

Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Rapid eye movement sleep or REM sleep is a stage of the natural sleep
cycle occurring in Humans. According to Nairne (2014), REM sleep is paradoxical since the brain s
electrical activity appears as if awake with extremely active activity taking place as interpreted by an
EEG. As the name indicates while in the stage of REM sleep the eyes move rapidly from left to right,
up and down while the rest of the body is extremely relaxed. When the body does not achieve REM
sleep be it intentional for research or unintentional possibly due to a sleep disorder, it can lead to REM

The Federalist Party Vs. The United States
By 1800, the Federalist Party was divided, clearing the way to the presidency for the Democratic
Republicans. Federalists like Washington and Adams wanted the federal government to have most of
the power in the United States. The non Federalists, Jefferson and Madison, during that time wanted a
small federal government with very little power. They were very much concerned with state rights and
individual freedom for the people. The political shift from Federalists, Washington and Adams, to
Democratic Republicans, Jefferson and Madison, resulted in non Federalists coming to power and a
shifting of government focus, the repealing of policies such as the Alien and Sedition Acts and the
Judiciary Act of 1808, and westward expansion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jefferson, as a non Federalist, believed that Hamilton s national bank was unconstitutional and
decided to abandon that policy, trim the federalist budget, and cut taxes. Jefferson, as a Democratic
Republican, did not like or trust the government due to its limit on the freedom of the individuals, but
he acknowledged the necessity. Jefferson believed in a democracy where the people and the states had
most of the power, which was a great step away from the policies the federalists had been putting in
place. In order to fulfill the non federalist s wishes to return power to the state, it meant relinquishing
powers of the central government, and this began with repealing the alien and sedition acts put in
place by the federalists. One of Adam s major flaws in his presidency was the execution of the Alien
and Sedition Acts, which allowed the government to compulsorily banish foreigners and jail
newspaper editors for scandalous writing. The acts were political, aimed at abolishing new settlers
support for Democratic Republicans. The Sedition Act strictly regulated anti government speech and
was a clear violation of the First Amendment. When the Federalists came into power, they repealed
the Alien and Sedition acts, and Jefferson led the opposition to them. Together with Madison, he
drafted the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions, which claimed that the Alien and Sedition Acts were
unconstitutional. In addition, before the federalists had left

Diversity in Three Voices
Diversity in Three Voices Scientist When working with individuals from different cultures, individuals
informally learn the differences that exist between them and their respective cultures (DeCenzo
Silhanek, 2001, p. 29). Often the word diversity is confused with political correctness or human
equality but it is the understanding of differences between people and how they interact. Diversity is
defined as the quality of being different but composed of distinct elements or qualities (Parvis, 2005,
p. 15). Throughout history the United States has been known as the melting pot, but this concept was a
perception not a reality because the melting pot ended up benefiting only white, prominent settlers.
Looking at diversity is observing differences and there are a lot of them. For example, male versus
female, religion versus no religion, homosexual versus heterosexual, foreign or domestic, republican
versus democrat, Caucasian versus African American, Mexican versus Latino, Cherokee Indian versus
Choctaw Indian, poor versus rich; and differences could encompass several more pages. We can deny
that differences exist or we can consent to differences while discovering from others the assets of
dissimilarity. People must learn, therefore, to recognize differences in others their backgrounds,
customs, and work schedules and appreciate, even celebrate, those differences (DeCenzo Silhanek,
2001, p. 29). Artist When it is blatantly obvious that you don t fit it with

The Notion of God in the Lord of the Rings Essay
The classic works of apocalyptic literature, such as the Book of Daniel and the Book of Revelation are
inherently religious and centered around God. As a result, most later apocalyptic literature is also
religiously centered, with God as the instrumental entity (Shaffer 142). Those who have read J.R.R.
Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings remember most vividly the final great battle where evil is overcome
in the apocalyptic ending of an age. Tolkien s bit of apocalyptic literature in The Lord of the Rings
seems different from traditional religious notions of an apocalypse because the entire epic fantasy
seems devoid of religion and any notion of God. Through recognition of the aural imagery in The
Lord of the Rings and comparison with that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In observing congruencies between The Lord of the Rings and Christian thought, Colin Gunton notes,
Evil is an essentially alien power which corrupts and destroys the work of God, and so has to be
destroyed (Gunton 128). This critic believes that God is present in some form in The Lord of the
Rings, and that evil in the story is a force against God. He is saying that where there is evil, there is
also God, and that in The Lord of the Rings, evil is a power against God that God must eradicate.
Because there is evil, and a demigod, Sauron, representative of it, there must be an opposition for the
side of good, and this entity must eradicate the evil.
The classic Christian notion of the way in which God eradicates evil is during the Apocalypse, and
this Apocalypse is recorded in the Book of Revelation, the last book in the New Testament. This
integral work of apocalyptic literature is the only one that gives a complete account, from beginning to
end, of the foretold Christian apocalypse. It is also the basis for Christian apocalyptic belief. In this
book, God is the entity who initiates the Apocalypse, but carries out the act through the help of angels.
When the main physical actions of the Apocalypse are to be committed, it is angels who step forward
to act, And I

Cost Control in Health Maintenance Organizations Essay
An HMO is an organized health care delivery system, which provides health care to its members
through networks of doctors and hospitals. Rather than traditional health plans, HMO s cost less. Two
ways HMO s control costs are: controlling hospital admission and length of stay, and by providing
incentives to physicians. These two cost control methods are further examined by an article published
by The National Bureau of Economic Research (2002). The article examines the incentives to
physician strategy for reducing utilization cost. The Physician Guide to Managed Care (1994)
describes HMOs the case management procedures used to control cost through hospital length of stay
and admissions.

Bonus levels are determined on the basis of performance, as performance improves the bonuses
gradually become higher. HMO s rely on rates and member satisfaction survey results to measure
provider performance. By keeping a certain level of member satisfaction, more revenue can be
brought in through new enrollees.
Financial incentives are generally more influential when it comes to physicians improving quality of
care. According to the National Research Council (2001), research regarding payment and quality
improvement efforts of health care administrators was presented at an Institute of Medicine Workshop
in April of 2004. The research showed ,with the use of physician incentives the total direct savings in
health care cost which include reduce visits and hospital episodes was an estimated net savings of
about 2,000 per patient. For more than 13,000 diabetic patients managed by a physician group it was
projected that the savings had the potential to generate over $10 million in net saving per year.
Aligning financial incentives with physician s networks provides the achievement of better patient
outcomes, but generally provides the HMO cost control over their equity.
HMO s utilize the process of controlling hospital admission and length of stay as another form of cost
control. According to Nash (1994), in order to minimize hospital length of stay, the HMO arranges in

The Landlady By Roald Dahl
The theme in the short story, The Landlady , by Roald Dahl is that naive people who judge outward
appearances should avoid trusting deceptive strangers because this can result in death. The first
example is when Billy first enters the Bed and breakfast and puts his stuff down. There were no hats
and coats in the hall, there were no umbrellas, no walking sticks nothing (Dahl 26). This means that
the place is empty because it is bad. This shows that Billy is naive and lacks wisdom. Furthermore,
when talking with the landlady she says that Temple and Mulholland are still on the 4th floor together.
But my dear boy, he never left. He s still here. Mr.Temple is also here. They re on the fourth floor,
both of them together ( Dahl 32). These are signs of danger because usually, someone who hears that

More importantly, when Billy and the landlady first meet each other, the landlady portrays herself as a
good person. She was forty five or fifty years old, and the moment she saw him, she gave him a warm,
welcoming smile (Dahl 24). This presents that the landlady is purposely misleading Billy to think that
she is a good person when she is really not. This relates to the theme because the landlady is tricking
Billy to thinking she is a good person so that he would stay. In the short story, there is a lot of
figurative language. In fact, the author Roald Dahl uses foreshadowing to create suspense. For
example, the tea tasted faintly of bitter almonds (Dahl 34). This quote shows foreshadowing because it
gives the reader an idea of what the tea might contain in it, which was poison. In addition, the author
uses imagery to give the reader an idea of how the character looks like. For instance, the back was
hard and cold, and when he pushed the hair to one side with his fingers, he could see the skin
underneath, grayish black and dry and perfectly preserved (Dahl

Thomas Polk s County And The Founding And Progress Of...
Thomas Polk in Mecklenburg County, 1750 1800
With over 250 years of history as a county in North Carolina, Mecklenburg County has an extensive
and fascinating story to tell. Established in 1762, the county that I call home has been a part of this
country since before we gained our independence from Great Britain. When most Americans hear the
surname Polk, they automatically think of our nation s eleventh president, James Knox Polk. A
fraction of those people are able to tell you that James was born in Mecklenburg County and spent the
first ten or so years of his life in present day Pineville. Very few, however, could tell you of James
great uncle, Thomas Polk, who was crucial to the founding and progress of Mecklenburg County.
Through my research, I have found numerous Polks who were either born in, raised in, or simply
moved to Mecklenburg County. Some of these people had a minor impact on the area, but Thomas
Polk influenced Mecklenburg County in a much bigger way. Polk had numerous accolades. Among
them are Revolutionary War soldier, local political leader, prominent land surveyor, and government
executive. In this paper, the time period is restricted from circa 1750 until circa 1800. These
approximate dates correspond to the arrival of Thomas Polk to Mecklenburg County, and to his death.
Nearly every aspect of this era of Mecklenburg County history has been touched in some aspect by
Thomas Polk.

China s modern economic growth has been progressing on a scale that is unparalleled in the history of
any nation, sustaining a growth rate of about 10% per year for the past 25 years. This is even more
remarkable considering that the world is at a stage of transformation and globalization. In such times,
countries with higher levels of technological development and human capital are naturally positioned
to take advantage of the new growth opportunities. Although at the start of China s reform era the
nation was underdeveloped relative to the powerful nations of the world, it has been able to close the
gap significantly over the recent years. One reason cited behind this progress has been that China was

The relationships with MNC s represent perhaps the most important form of foreign direct investment
in China. Central and provincial/municipal governments clearly recognize the benefit of getting MNC
s to work with local companies, seeing opportunities to rapidly develop and improve the condition of
Chinese companies just through exposing them to world class management practices and technology.
By piggybacking on the experience of cutting edge western firms, China can quickly move through
the fast track of technological development. This expertise will be necessary as the government seeks
to manage the sheer breakneck pace by which the economy is growing, and the pressure is further
underpinned by the political restlessness and social fragility of the nation s large population.
The MNC s have their own reasons and incentives for reciprocating the attention given to them. China
has invested a lot of resources into its universities and education systems, and the direct result of this
has been that Chinese cities now field a large and attractive labor pool of university educated workers.
Additionally, China has already been home to a deep reserve of unskilled labor. The costs of this labor
is relatively low compared to western countries and serves as a major drawing factor in attracting the
attention of MNC s that seek to reduce their operating costs and

To create Native American common and tradition art they used different tools, some including, rocks,
feathers, cloth, clay, and fabric. Native americans also used material from animals like fur and bones.
They would never hunt for sport and used every last part of what they hunted and didn t let any part of
their animals go unused. To get pigments and different colors they would use plants and different
kinds of berries to mix and get the desired colors they wanted. They were known for having many
bright colors to represent what they love. There are many, forms, and genres of Native American art, a
common one is painting. The earliest form of painting that we know of, dates back all the way to 4000
b.c. These paintings have been found in caves, rock shelters, and clay plasters and were usually
applied with a fibre brush. Many designs are in forms of both supernatural and natural ideas and
scenarios, it was a way to tell and visualize stories. Painting was also used to decorate things like
pottery and instruments. This form of art was probably the most popular. Another common form of art

My Courage In Life
Courage is different for everyone, but no matter the description everyone experiences moments during
life where they have to be courageous. I believe courage is being brave enough to face your fears and
overcome adversities, and not look back. Many people s fears decrease as they face them more, but for
me mine only got worse the more I moved, and the older I got. For many people they have to find
courage to face new places and situations, which is where I have found the most courage in my life.
Change is not easy and leaving everything you know is hard but I had to become courageous to
overcome what I was faced with, and these difficulties have changed my life and made me a person I
would have never been without them. Each person finds courage in their darkest and hardest moments
in life, and here is mine. Six year olds don t know anything right? So as I sat waving from the giant
moving truck to my family and friends, I had no idea my life was about to be flipped upside down and
changed forever. At six it did not take courage for me to move halfway across the country, it was fun,
a new adventure. Or so it seemed. New school, new friends, and a big new house. I moved again when
I was six, and yet again I didn t care. It was my third move and this one I was even more excited
about, because I got to move by my cousins who were my best friends. In Michigan I spent the next

The Pros And Cons Of Wildlife Management
Wildlife management is one of the many branches within Natural Resource Management. This branch
specifically dedicates its time and resources to doing exactly what it sounds like managing wildlife
and the habitat they live in. However, they do this through not directly manipulating the organisms
and habitats, but through the regulations of humans and their activities. It is easier to help animals by
controlling human activity than it is to control the animal s activity. That is why the true focus of
wildlife management lies in managing people, not the animals.
There are numerous ways that humans affect wildlife, both in positive and negative ways. Humans act
as a predator to populations where natural predators have a small population or have been extirpated
from an area. They can remove aggressive or sick animals from a population. Some of the more
negative impacts of humans can be over harvesting a population to the point of an endangered status
or driving them to extinction. When settlers began to expand westward, many saw economic
opportunity. Whether it was trapping beavers for their fur, killing bison for hides, or trapping
songbirds for their feathers, people were tearing populations apart just to make money. It seemed as if
America was plentiful and had an infinite amount of resources. However, that was not the case. Due to
people s carelessness, many species that once roamed the land and skies are now extinct. Back then,
there were no hunting regulations for humans and no legal protection for the animals. One such
animals that has suffered from this was the Carolina parakeet (Conuropsis carolinensis). This species
was a beautiful yellow and orange headed, green bodied parakeet that inhabited the Eastern United
States. It was hunted for a number of things, including destroying farmers crops and having a high
demand in the feather trade due to their vibrant colors. Both of these factors in combination with the
destruction of the bird s habitat led to their population decline and extinction in the 1920 s. (Cornell
Lab of Ornithology).
A great majority of the extinctions that have occurred throughout history can have the causes traced
back to human activity. People realized that extensive and

The Physician-Paternalistic Relationship
In our society and classrooms, more often than not, it is argued that when a physician and their patient
have a paternalistic relationship, it is deemed unacceptable and needs to be addressed. However,
Komrad argues that a paternalistic relationship can actually be a beneficial factor between a physician
and their patient. Komrad creates the concept of a limited paternalism where it preserves an individual
s freedom as much as possible in the hope of eventually broadening it (42). One of the main
components of this paternalism is acknowledging that from the very beginning of a physician patient
relationship, it is an asymmetrical relationship because of the patient s already diminished autonomy.

How To Prevent Zika Disease
Preventing an outbreak of Zika in Mississippi Throughout the Caribbean, Central, and South America
there has been health crisis that s has been affecting the youngest generation of these developing
countries. Thousands of babies have been born with a birth defect known as microencephaly. This
birth defect can cause horrible problems such as seizures, mental retardation, developmental delays,
short stature and difficulties with coordination and balance. (Centers for Disease Control 2017) This
birth defect often leads to having to provide life term medical care and it was determined to be caused
by the mother acquiring a mosquito borne infection with the Zika virus. So, what is this Zika virus and

What are the prevention techniques our state is investing in? What can we do to try and prevent
ourselves and our families from getting Zika? The CDC is currently tracking the spread of the Zika
virus throughout the world and teaching local healthcare providers how to detect case of the Zika
virus. They are also providing support for local hospital laboratories to provide testing if the hospital
cannot provide it and preforming confirmatory testing for those labs that do provide that type of
testing. The CDC is also doing research on the link between Zika virus and the birth defects that it
causes. They also educate people about the Zika virus and issue travel warnings on the place that have
outbreaks. CDC is also recommending that all men that travel to countries with travel warnings to
practice safe sex for a while after returning from those trips because it is suspected that Zika can be
passed through semen. President Obama signed a release of emergency funds that has provided $1.8
billion dollars to help accelerate research into a vaccine for Zika. (USA Today 2016) Another method
that is being tried in countries like Brazil is the release of genetically modified male mosquitoes.
These male mosquitoes have genetically modified genes that will cause their offspring to die quickly
so that they will never reach maturity and since male mosquitoes do not bite they cannot spread
disease. The biotech company Oxitec which is behind this concept, has stated that it can reduce
populations by 80%. (Stein 2016) This has been deemed a safe method of mosquito reduction by the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration. (Stein 2016) This method is controversial but it does reduce the
overall amount of pesticide that is used to control the mosquitoes. Another method that is being used

Instances like this one where a pop star dies from something they have brought themselves into

compared to military members. It is very easy for someone in Whitney s position to be very unique

Analysis Of The Article The Internet Sales Industry
The Internet Sales Industry October 9, 2015 Terri Lowe

A Porter analysis will be performed throughout this paper, on the internet sales industry. Included in
the Porter analysis is six relative competitive forces; threat of new entrants, rivalry amongst firms,
threat of substitute services, bargaining power of buyers, bargaining power of suppliers, and relative
power of other stakeholders. Threat of New Entrants: Medium
With the new age of technology we have entered, it would seem simple to enter the internet sales

New entrants must also consider how well existing companies have mastered the art of converting
combining customer and third party seller data together, and converting it into useful information for
future customers. Customers are able to see previous customer reviews and seller ratings without even
meeting the seller. The transparency of sellers, provide customers with the comfort of knowing what
type of seller they are dealing with before a transaction even occurs. New entrants to the industry
would not be able to provide potential customers with the same transparency seller transparency that
an existing seller would be able to (eBay, 2010). Rivalry among Existing Firms: High
Competition within the internet sales industry is fierce and innovation is the way internet retailers are
looking to grab the top spot. Internet retailers such as Walmart are following in the path of competitors
and building fulfillment centers left and right to allow for faster delivery to customers. Many internet
retailers have explored the possibilities of drone delivery, using customers to deliver products to other
customers on their way home, and allowing customers to pick up products out of lockers in stores so
they don t have to wait in line; these competitive strategies internet retailers are seeking to implement
illustrate how far firms are willing to go to gain the upper hand on one another (Forbes, 2012).
Although the services many of these firms

Positive Changes in the Quality of Life for Woman in Morocco
In recent years, Morocco has made positive changes to the rights and quality of life for women. These
changes include educational opportunities, use of contraception, more public participation, and greater
participation in the paid workforce. With the persistence of patriarchy, the presence of religion, and
the current spotlight on the Middle East, life of Muslim women still remains invisible. It is valuable to
explore the ways in which Muslim women explain their place in society today. Many feminist
movements in Morocco parallel those in the western world and create several notable achievements on
behalf of human and women s rights. At the political and social level, there are signs that conditions
for women are changing. Social organizations, which encourage women s rights, are becoming more
popular and influential. During the last part of the 19th century continuing through the 20th century
women in well off classes had access to feminist ideas and developed the first period of feminism in
Morocco. After the independence period of the 1940s the Moroccan palace created the Feminism of
State. Although more of a silent representation rather than an active transformer it paved way for more
active forms of feminism in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1969 the National Union of Moroccan Women
was created and the Moroccan Association of Familiar Planning began in 1971. These organizations
began the second feminist generation and movement, which moved through the 1980s and focused on

Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus
Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus A Powerful Tragedy
Titus Andronicus is a play marked by acts of horrific violence and littered with death and the
destruction of others. Each violent act, however, serves to explain and sometimes encourage the
motives of the play s memorable characters and impart a very tightly knotted plot. The structure of the
play employs well defined heroes and villains. Revenge is their key motivating factor. All of these
elements combine to form a cohesive plot and contribute to the overall success of the story.
Shakespeare s sources for the play are quite clear. He makes it no secret that the rape of Lavinia is
analogous to the rape of Philomela in Ovid s Metamorphosis. In this tale, The daughter of the King ...

iii.). This similarity is not limited to the characters actions, however; Metamorphosis is mentioned in
the play on several occasions. This analogy is first brought out by Lavinia in Act IV, scene one. The
young Lucius has a copy of the book which Lavinia uses to explain how she was Ravished and
wronged, as Philomela was . . . (IV. I. 52). The book is also mentioned in Act V, scene three, when
Titus asks Saturninus,
My lord the Emperor, resolve me this: Was it well done of rash Virginius [Philomela s father] To slay
his daughter with his own right hand, Because she was enforced, stained, and deflowered? (V. iii. 35

Shortly after Saturninus answers in the affirmative, Titus follows Virginius s lead and kills Lavinia.
These occurrences are not the only unmistakable likenesses, however.
Another popular tale that was published during Shakespeare s lifetime is that of wicked Moorish
servant who is wronged by his master and swears to exact his revenge. One day while the master is
out hunting, the Moor traps the master s wife and two children in their moated tower by raising the

Comparing The Parthenon Of Ancient Greece And Rome
Last of all, both of these edifices directly affect the responsibilities of the citizens and what makes the
Greek or Roman. With the massive amount of wealth and power gained by the Athenians the
statement of the Parthenon is a sort of claim of superiority over all other nations and enforces a sort of
national pride on Athenian power. It is an example of their efficiency as a fighting machine. The
reliefs serve as metaphors of triumph over the irrational barbarians and order over chaos that defines
the mindset of Athenian society. Similarly, the Ara Pacis is also a statement of dominance over an
irrational society but the Romans sought to further this by claiming they were saviors, not just
conquerors. Even the name of the monument, Arch of

U.s. Army s 516th Signal Brigade
Introduction With each passing year, current technologies continue to evolve or change while new
technology or innovations emerge that, in some instances, profoundly change markets, societies, or
ways of living. For all organizations, to include the military, the persistent change of technology
means that organizations must also evolve and change accordingly. Based on research by Accenture s
Paul Nunes and Tim Breene in 2011, only 7 percent of companies that cease to grow ever survive over
the long term, which serves as a strong warning for any organization about the need to change. In
addition to technological change, the military faces many other challenges as well. The most
significant challenges include budgetary constraints, mandated drawdowns in personnel strength, and
numerous mission demands across the globe. This is the greater context facing the U.S. Army s 516th
Signal Brigade based in Hawaii. The 516th Signal Brigade consists of 2,500 soldiers and federal
employees responsible for the installation, operation, and defense of tactical and strategic information
technology (IT) networks for the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater (from Japan to Alaska). Every day
the 516th Signal Brigade must defend against cyber attacks, provide IT service support to many

Edvard Munch The Scream Analysis
Specifically, are there artists whose creative practice might be viewed as art therapy? There are artists
that have used their art to work through pain and mental illness. Edvard Munch is best known for The
Scream , many of his other works also explore intense psychological themes. He suffered from deep
depression during his lifetime and his art often reflected events that happened to him.
Sickness insanity and death were the angels that surrounded my cradle and they have followed me
throughout my life. (Edvard Munch; www.goodreads.com)
Many of Munch s other paintings also express the depressed and hopeless mood that tormented him
throughout his life, his obsession with death and his overwhelming fears. These include; Blossom of
pain Vampire Anxiety Death in the sick chamber Melancholy Self portrait in distress The death bed .
(See figure 2) The Scream by the Norwegian artist Edward Munch is the second most famous image
in art history, after Leonardo s Mona Lisa. There are actually four versions of The Scream that Munch
created in his lifetime. It has been suggested that the Scream is a self portrait or that inspiration came
from a Peruvian mummy that Munch saw at the World s Fair in Paris in 1889. The following works
were hand painted by Munch in poetic form on the Frame of the 1895 version.
I was walking along a path with two friends, the sun was setting, suddenly the sky turned blood red I
paused, feeling exhausted and leaned on the fence there was blood and tongues of the fire above the
blue, black fjord and the city, my friends walked on and I stood there trembling with anxiety and I
sensed an infinite, scream passing through nature. (Edward Munch; www.goodreads.com)
When looked at The Scream it seems like someone full of pain and unable to cope anymore, as Munch
suffered from anxiety and agoraphobia. Does the painting portray someone, screaming for freedom or
are they are in deep emotional pain and despair? When you look at the painting the two main colours
are orange and blue, how does the contrasting colours add to the overall impact? The bright swirling

The Importance Of Oppression In America
Indigenous people had their tribes and land taken away by the colonized that came from Europe. This
includes Native Americans, Hispanic land and African lands becoming invaded and oppressed.
Oppression refers to the exercise of power to keep others in a state of subjection and to treat them
unjustly by denying what is due them as their right by virtue of their humanity. (Nader Saiedi) People
have faced oppression for hundreds of years for countless different reasons. When we hear the horrid
stories explaining why people were dehumanized we may think that these reasons are illogical or
unjustifiable. Yet back in time they were reasonable. If you were poor, colored, A woman or had
different religious beliefs there was a reason to attack that specific group and deny them the basic
rights. Now as a developed nation we have rioted, protested and died for equality. In Heckler s
Inaugural Address he speaks about equality and Valparaiso University as one. We all deserve the same
rights as a black person, white person, homosexual or heterosexual. It does not matter where we come
from or what we believe in because we are all entitled to the same legal and social powers. Education
equality is one of the most important kind of right. Education is the only ticket out of minimum wage
jobs, poverty and oppression. Education is powerful because it gives us credibility, knowledge and
equality. As Nelson Mandela once said: Education is the great engine of personal development. It is

Guilt In Crime And Punishment By Dostoevsky
How much can one person s life have on an individual? In Crime and Punishment there is a bond that
is presented between the characters of Raskolnikov and Sonia which is not demonstrated to the same
degree within others. Both of them share having to live up to the guilt of their actions and find comfort
in accepting each other s flaws. With Raskolnikov it is this acceptance that leads him to confess his
crime and with Sonia it is what drives her to move to Siberia to be with the person who appreciates
her the most. The bond between the two characters reflects how forgiveness is expressed in deep

were increasingly evident; on their 1984 world tour the band didn t even play on the same stage, but
rather performed on four separate platforms, symbolic of the escalating rift among its members.
Finally, in 1985, after taking time off to record a successful solo album (and delaying work on the
follow up to 1984) Roth parted ways with Van Halen. This group proved to be the starting point of
heavy metal, starting out in the 1970 s and continuing through the first half of the 1990 s.
After groups paved the way for heavy metal, one band can be the representative of the heavy metal
style in the 1980 s. Metallica was formed on October 15, 1981 by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.
Lars played the drums while James was on vocals and guitar. Kirk Hammett joined the band in 1982
and became the band s lead guitarist. Metallica s bass player was Jason Newsted, after their first
bassist, Cliff Murton, was killed in a bus crash. It was on March fourteenth that Metallica played their
first gig at radio city Anaheim in California. On June fourteenth the Metal Massacre LP was released
and it was Metallica s first appearance on an official record. The first release of the LP contained a few
mistakes including band s name being miss spelt Mettallica and Lloyd grants name being misspelled
as Loydd Grant.
1983 was the year that Metallica really made an impact. They moved to San

Xu Bing s The New York
When people were still perplexed by Xu Bing s nonsense writing and atypical interpretations of
traditional Chinese idioms around the early 2000s, Xu Bing started to work on an unconventional
interior installation in 2008, after his return from the United States. The whole project, which is made
of made of construction debris and light emitting diodes (Xu Bing Studio), took two years to finish
and named as Feng Huang in Chinese, the same as Phoenix in English. The integrated representations
of Xu Bing s Phoenix not only represent human being s graceful expectations for the future in Eastern
culture, but also manifest the abilities of rebirthing to achieve eternal lives in Western culture. Since
its completion in 2010, this grand Phoenix ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the same time, he was invited to create a commercial project for Beijing Central Business District,
CBD. When he entered the construction site of this building, the animalistic hot temperature and
rough skin in its interior enthralled Xu Bing s attention immediately. The direct contrast of the migrant
workers harsh working conditions and splendid appearances of mansions motivated Xu Bing to record
this striking impression of his homeland. Unexpectedly, sponsor of this project agreed to his idea of
making a work of art out of useless materials in the atrium of the building, which looks like a big cage
(Xiong Artron), representing China s new wealth, prosperity, and capitalistic spirit (Traub). The
paradoxical representation of the most prosperous fortune center in Beijing and grandeur Phoenix,
which are made of the surplus materials, to some extent, dramatically critique the growing capitalism
in China. However, following the Olympic games suspended all constructions and truck
transportations in Beijing, making them difficult to collect building debris. Shortly, the global
economic crisis forced the sponsor of the Phoenix to reconsider its support. As Xu Bing said in the
interview, When the economy was growing, they had a greater tolerance for art, humor, self mockery,
and a bit of self criticism. However, when things turn bad, their ability to accept this kind of artwork
became limited (Traub). Xu Bing suspended the construction of the Phoenix, rather than

Types of Insurance
Types of insurance Any risk that can be quantified can potentially be insured. Specific kinds of risk
that may give rise to claims are known as perils. An insurance policy will set out in detail which perils
are covered by the policy and which are not. Below are non exhaustive lists of the many different
types of insurance that exist. A single policy may cover risks in one or more of the categories set out
below. For example, vehicle insurance would typically cover both the property risk (theft or damage to
the vehicle) and the liability risk (legal claims arising from an accident). A home insurance policy in
the US typically includes coverage for damage to the home and the owner s ... Show more content on

Certain life insurance contracts accumulate cash values, which may be taken by the insured if the
policy is surrendered or which may be borrowed against. Some policies, such as annuities and
endowment policies, are financial instruments to accumulate or liquidate wealth when it is needed. In
many countries, such as the US and the UK, the tax law provides that the interest on this cash value is
not taxable under certain circumstances. This leads to widespread use of life insurance as a tax
efficient method of saving as well as protection in the event of early death. In the US, the tax on
interest income on life insurance policies and annuities is generally deferred. However, in some cases
the benefit derived from tax deferral may be offset by a low return. This depends upon the insuring
company, the type of policy and other variables (mortality, market return, etc.). Moreover, other
income tax saving vehicles (e.g., IRAs, 401(k) plans, Roth IRAs) may be better alternatives for value
accumulation. [edit]Property This tornado damage to an Illinois home would be considered an Act of
God for insurance purposes Property insurance provides protection against risks to property, such as
fire, theft or weather damage. This may include specialized forms of insurance such as fire insurance,

Mrs. Dalloway
I. Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, was published on May 14, 1925 in London, England. The novel
follows Clarissa Dalloway and a variety of other characters throughout the span of one day in their
lives in 1923 London. Woolf utilizes a narrative method of writing. With the novel s structure, the
narrator possesses the ability to move inside of a character s mind and compose her thoughts and
emotions immediately as events occur throughout the day. The novel s main character, Clarissa, is a
middle aged woman who belongs to the upper middle class in society and is well married to a Member
of Parliament Richard Dalloway. Clarissa s day is full of arrangements for a dinner party she plans to
host that evening. During the novel, numerous other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than hold lengthy conversations between characters, she frequently writes only of small talk
and leaves more serious topics to be recited in an individual s exclusive thoughts. One of her purposes
in writing the novel is to expose the hypocrisy of society. The characters in the novel range from
eccentric acquaintances to extravagant lords and ladies to vindictive tutors to suicidal veterans. One
example of this theme occurs when Rezia and Septimus attempt to settle down in the park. When the
airplane soars overhead, she writes, Tears ran down his cheeks (Woolf 21). While one may mistake
this as joy or, at worst, sorrow over the recent war, Woolf gives the reality of the action beneath the
surface, stating, They are signaling to me... this exquisite beauty... but he would not go mad. He would
see no more (21). While Septimus dwindles on the brink of insanity, Rezia chatters away about nature,
unaware of the mess resting beside her. Septimus portrays the appearance of one man yet expresses an
entirely new persona through his contemplations. Another instance of the theme transpires when Miss
Kilman and Clarissa wait for Elizabeth to retrieve her gloves before going shopping. Clarissa and
Kilman both make attempts at small talk. However, both give their attentions to a mutual disgust of
each other. Clarissa simply asks if Kilman is taking Elizabeth to the stores. Kilman replies dryly, but

Essay On Guatemalan Civil War
Guatemala is a beautiful country that is known for its many Mayan cites, rich culture and its wide
rainforest. The country has volcanos, delicious foods and a wonderful atmosphere that make for a rich
tourist attraction. But the country has a history that isn t as wonderful as I have made it sound. This
country has endured a very tragic Civil War that started in 1960 and ended in 1996. This 36 year war
was devastating to this country because of the many deaths that had happened and because of all of
the tragic moments that happened within the span of the war. The Guatemalan Civil War was one of
the many acts of genocide that have happened all around the world but even though there were many
tragedies this country has developed past it and become the beautiful ... Show more content on

This article being released allowed other countries to become aware about the tragic battle that is
going on in this beautiful country. Then in 1982 there was a new president that was elected because of
a military coup and his name was General Effrain Rios Montt. He was fully against the government
system they currently had and he had annulled the 1965 constitution, dissolved the congress and had
banned all political parties. This turned the government system in Guatemala to be fully under the
control of the army. He also would later that year form local civilian defense groups to work alongside
the military in search of the guerilla fighters. They had recovered most of the territory that the guerilla
fighters had gained and gave no place for guerilla fighters to feel safe. This was a very brutal time
during this war because of the army taking back the guerilla fighters territory and the many civilians
they had killed who were living in the camps with the guerilla fighters (Miller,

The Role of Nobility in Sir Thomas Malory’s Tale of Sir...
The value of nobility in the middle ages can hardly be questioned. The majority of nobles lived a life
of luxury, having riches beyond the wildest dreams of commoners. When one thinks of medieval
knights, nobility is often comes to mind, but did knights have to be members of the noble class? Sir
Thomas Malory s The Tale of Sir Gareth examines this question and presents an interesting view as to
the true value of a knight. Malory uses the actions of important characters to reveal his opinion that
the nobility of a knight was secondary to his integrity, courage, and benevolence. Many characters in
Malory s world view nobility as an absolute must and even a synonym for being a knight. Sir Kay is a
telling example of this. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Sir Gareth leaves Lady Lyoness, disappointed that his prize has rejected him for a year, she
sends her brother Sir Gryngamour to retrieve Beaumains dwarf in order to question it of Beaumains
true name. Once she learns of Sir Gareth s nobility she concludes she can love him (Malory 156). Sir
Gareth s attempt to regain his dwarf reveals another aspect of his knighthood, his masculinity, as he
threatens Sir Gryngamour if the dwarf isn t safely returned to him (Huber 52). While there are no
doubts that Lyoness is an important character, one has to wonder about the importance Malory places
on her views. Asking Sir Gareth to prove himself for a year winning more fame was an absurd
proposition, especially considering his impressive victory through the Passage Perelous and defeat of
the Red Knight. Her actions prove her to be somewhat dimwitted. Malory uses Lyoness to further
expose the lack of value of nobility in a knight. Another minor character, the dwarf, reveals other
attributes of knighthood. When the dwarf is stolen by Sir Gryngamour, Sir Gareth is given the
opportunity to show off his masculinity, as he challenges Sir Gryngamour to a fight to win the dwarf
back (Huber 52). The dwarf also gains fame for Sir Gareth when he removes the ring that disguises Sir
Gareth (Huber 53). After

  • 2. The Book Summary In John Steinbeck s The Pearl The book The Pearl takes place in a small fishing village in La Paz, Mexico. The main characters are from an Indian tribe that live on the beach in brush houses, since Spaniards have kicked them out of their homes. There is a poor fisherman named Kino, his wife Juana, and their son Coyotito. One day Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion, but the family cannot support the cost of the treatment, so they go and try to find a pearl to then sell. When looking in the water, Kino finds a magnificent, shiny, big, and beautiful pearl. However, when going to sell it Kino does not like the prices the pearl buyers will buy it for, so he decides he will cross the sea and the mountains to the Capital. I think what drives Kino through the book is a fear of the amount of money he will earn, being cheated with the value of the pearl, and Juana and Coyotito s safety from attackers/trackers. To begin, what drives Kino is fear of not getting the correct amount of money he needs from the pearl to supply all the things he desires. First of all, this is because Kino explains that the pearl is worth more than what the pearl buyers are willing to pay for it. The first pearl buyer says, I can give you, say, a thousand pesos. Kino s face grew dark and dangerous. It is worth fifty thousand, he said (50). He later says he will go to the Capital and sell it there instead, but I can tell Kino is worried of what is to come, and if he will get the correct amount of money for the pearl. Following, Kino ... • 3. Characteristics Of Late Talkers Introduction Practicing Speech Language Pathologist are constantly looking for effective ways to solve parent concerns. Exploring the best practices a clinician should consider when providing intervention for children who are late talkers is a constant premise for research. Late talkers are characterized as children with limited expressive language abilities at an early age with no other known etiologies (Kouri, 2005). Roughly 15% of children by age 2 show signs of different developmental language impairments (Roberts, Kaiser, Wolfe, Bryant, Spidalieri, 2014). Hall and Elliman states that a primary language delay remains one of the most prevalent developmental delays in early childhood, particularly in disadvantaged areas (as cited in Gibbard Smith, 2016). Risk factors for late talkers include male gender, family history, and early neurobiological growth (Zunrick, Taylor, Rice, Slegers, 2007). Characteristics associated with late talkers are children with a known vocabulary of less than 50 words and no two word combinations (ASHA, n.d.). Some other communicative characteristics these children may have are comprehension problems, use of gestures instead of verbal communication, short utterances, and minimal complex syllable construction. Vocabulary acquisition is also just as important as language acquisition because it predicts reading skills and school readiness (McLeod, Hardy, Kaiser, 2017). School readiness is especially important because it allows for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Cosi Fan Tutte Avtaran Jain Cosi Fan Tutte Review Many have heard the saying that art does not have a language barrier. However, there are times when the expression above fails to hold true for a performance. It in during these times, that the unison of the audience breaks, and a dichotomy forms. My recent experience with the play, Cosi Fan Tutte was somewhat similar to the events described above. Although Cosi Fan Tutte attempts to establish itself in the hearts of the crowd through its talented and experienced cast, it ultimately fails due to its tediously repetitive song structure and narrow intended audience. The adeptness and dexterity of an individual have always been fundamental talents to look for when viewing a performance. These individuals are the one that help the event advance to success. When it comes to the qualities mentioned above, the cast of Cosi Fan Tutte definitely possess most. Because Cosi Fan Tutte is a performance written by Mozart, it comes as no surprise that the level of singing and acting required is highly demanding even for veterans in the industry. Yet, despite all these hurdles, the cast of the performance is able to captivate and delight the audience through its outstanding vocal finesse and entertaining characterization. Ferrando, played by Carlos Feliciano and Guglielmo, played by Eli Glick are the stars of the show, displaying their level of musical acumen through songs such as Una bella serenata and E voi ridete which require a vocal ... • 5. Polyvagal Theory The Polyvagal theory developed by Stephen Porges and introduced in 1994 provides new insight into the functioning of the autonomic nervous system. The theory provides a clear understanding of the nervous system which plays a huge role for dancers as it can influence mental and physical performance, as well as keeping pain free. The trial program The research undertaken in the trial was conducted in order to test and discover the level to which applying the Polyvagal theory can improve a dancers physical performance. The aims of the research conducted were to: Identify the level that the Polyvagal theory takes effect on physical performance. Identify the ways in which the theory can be applied and when it is best to By conducting a trial utilising the application of the theory it had the ability to further determine the effectiveness through the effect the exercises had on the participants. The Trial ran over a course of 20 days and involved pre trial questions followed by sets of exercises to finish with follow up questions that recorded progress and improvement. The theory background to the trial Porges theory recognises his important discoveries on the vagus nerve which changed previous understanding and functioning of the autonomic nervous system. Prior to this discovery, it was understood that the system operated in a balanced sympathetic/parasympathetic way. Porges research changed the outlook and understanding on the system, firstly with the vagus nerve in mammals having two branches, and secondly that the newest branch is able to prevent other nervous system activity. When the vagus nerve is activated it allows the parasympathetic nervous system to enjoy a state of health, growth, and restoration in which is the preferred state for optimal function. The sympathetic system is capable of movement and decides whether to flee or fight in the presence of danger. The last line of defence is the parasympathetic nervous system 2 which immobilises and shuts down the body. The vague nerve is activated during exhalation so when the exhale is not completed properly and the breath is held longer, it is in theory preventing the opportunity to obtain a healthy state. If trouble is found with the vagal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mending Wall Annotation The desire to discover something can be the effect of the human condition or metaphysical with the idea of emotions causing transformation of perspectives of oneself and the world. In Frost s poem Mending Wall , a contemplation regarding the repairing of a wall between a persona and their neighbour reveals that they hold conflicting views about the necessity of a wall. It is shown that the persona disapproves the mending of the wall through the personification of apple trees. The persona uses it as a logical example of the futile nature of having fences for fruit trees; thus, the composer challenges not just the neighbour but also the audience to speculate the reasons for having a fence. A bitter clash of opinions is unveiled when the persona ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The protagonist is a man who experiences a series of events in attempt to pursue a girl he has never had any verbal interaction with. An element of romance is prevailed through the establishing shot where winds blow a piece of paper with the girl s lipstick stain and coincidentally lands on the man. This is a metaphor for fate, although it is juxtaposed by a reverse shot, where it shows the man that he is unaware that the women has left and this experience is shared with the audience. Thus, it creates an impact on the audience as well leaving them wondering whether the man and the women will ever see each other again. A high angle shot is established in the following scene where he is relishing the piece of paper that was originally owned by the girl. It depicts that the man desires to see her again. The man experiences an unforeseen turn of event when he realises the girl is in the building across from his work office. He attempts to create dozens of paper planes and toss them, at the window where she is standing, in order to get her attention. The anthropomorphism of the planes is a manifestation of the self discovery of his desire to be with her and is complemented with jubilant music, which gradually increases in volume and drowns out the ... • 7. Media Violence and Its Effect on Society Media Violence And Its Effect On Society Does entertainment influence society s attitude towards violent behavior? In order to fully answer this question we must first understand what violence is. Violence is the use of one s powers to inflict mental or physical injury upon another; examples of this would be rape or murder. Violence in entertainment reaches the public by way of television, movies, video games, music, and novels. Violent images on television, as well as in the movies, have inspired people to set spouses on fire in their beds, lie down in the middle of highways, extort money by placing bombs in airplanes, rape, steal, murder, and commit numerous other shootings and assaults. Over 1,000 case studies have proven that media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These children do not understand that the violence is shown strictly because the public wants to see it. They cannot grasp the meaning of ratings and entertainment as well as adults can. All they know is, if the TV portrays violence as cool, then it must be cool! The problem isn t the violence in the media though; it is the media s failure to show the consequences of violence. This is especially true of cartoons, toy commercials, and music videos. Children often do not realize that it hurts to hit someone else because they see it all the time on TV. Everyday a cartoon character is beat up, injured, or killed, only to return in the very next episode, good as new. As a result, children learn that there are few, if any repercussions for committing violent acts. In a recent incident in Norway, two children beat another child by jumping and kicking the child in the head and other parts of her body numerous times. As a result, the child died from being left out in the cold because she was not able to move due to her injuries. Later the officials had discovered that the barbaric incident was due to the fact that the children had watched the violent cartoon Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The children thought that the girl would later get up because in the show the characters never die. Consequently, the show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was canceled throughout Norway. Music ... Solorio Bradman University Fall 1 2016 The Influence of Historical and Theoretical Factors Domestic Violence CJCU 416 OL1 Every year in America, there are millions of women who are physically assaulted by their partners (Tjaden Thoennes, 2000). This number is staggering. For the purpose of this literature review, I am defining domestic violence as physical abuse. As domestic violence increases, the need for intervention ever so in demand. Tjaden Thoeness (2000), describe how the widespread occurrence of domestic violence is influenced by historical and theoretical factors and this is evident with domestic violence intervention. Both of these factors encourage options for treatment for the victims and abusers of domestic violence. Kaya Cook (2010), discusses how a well known Nation started a major movement which targeted violence against women. Empowerment of women is a key source in violence intervention. Previously the traditional role of a woman was to known as a homemaker. Educated women were rare to find. As society is growing, women have received more political and social rights and feel more empowered. Women who have access to work and education gain a greater chance of escaping male violence (Kaya Cook, 2010). Factors are education, income, age, drug abuse or abuse history. Prevention tactics at this level are often considered to stimulate attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that in the end reduce violence. Kaya Cook (2010) also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Federalist Party Vs. The United States By 1800, the Federalist Party was divided, clearing the way to the presidency for the Democratic Republicans. Federalists like Washington and Adams wanted the federal government to have most of the power in the United States. The non Federalists, Jefferson and Madison, during that time wanted a small federal government with very little power. They were very much concerned with state rights and individual freedom for the people. The political shift from Federalists, Washington and Adams, to Democratic Republicans, Jefferson and Madison, resulted in non Federalists coming to power and a shifting of government focus, the repealing of policies such as the Alien and Sedition Acts and the Judiciary Act of 1808, and westward expansion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jefferson, as a non Federalist, believed that Hamilton s national bank was unconstitutional and decided to abandon that policy, trim the federalist budget, and cut taxes. Jefferson, as a Democratic Republican, did not like or trust the government due to its limit on the freedom of the individuals, but he acknowledged the necessity. Jefferson believed in a democracy where the people and the states had most of the power, which was a great step away from the policies the federalists had been putting in place. In order to fulfill the non federalist s wishes to return power to the state, it meant relinquishing powers of the central government, and this began with repealing the alien and sedition acts put in place by the federalists. One of Adam s major flaws in his presidency was the execution of the Alien and Sedition Acts, which allowed the government to compulsorily banish foreigners and jail newspaper editors for scandalous writing. The acts were political, aimed at abolishing new settlers support for Democratic Republicans. The Sedition Act strictly regulated anti government speech and was a clear violation of the First Amendment. When the Federalists came into power, they repealed the Alien and Sedition acts, and Jefferson led the opposition to them. Together with Madison, he drafted the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions, which claimed that the Alien and Sedition Acts were unconstitutional. In addition, before the federalists had left ... • 11. Diversity in Three Voices Diversity in Three Voices Scientist When working with individuals from different cultures, individuals informally learn the differences that exist between them and their respective cultures (DeCenzo Silhanek, 2001, p. 29). Often the word diversity is confused with political correctness or human equality but it is the understanding of differences between people and how they interact. Diversity is defined as the quality of being different but composed of distinct elements or qualities (Parvis, 2005, p. 15). Throughout history the United States has been known as the melting pot, but this concept was a perception not a reality because the melting pot ended up benefiting only white, prominent settlers. Looking at diversity is observing differences and there are a lot of them. For example, male versus female, religion versus no religion, homosexual versus heterosexual, foreign or domestic, republican versus democrat, Caucasian versus African American, Mexican versus Latino, Cherokee Indian versus Choctaw Indian, poor versus rich; and differences could encompass several more pages. We can deny that differences exist or we can consent to differences while discovering from others the assets of dissimilarity. People must learn, therefore, to recognize differences in others their backgrounds, customs, and work schedules and appreciate, even celebrate, those differences (DeCenzo Silhanek, 2001, p. 29). • 12. The Notion of God in the Lord of the Rings Essay The classic works of apocalyptic literature, such as the Book of Daniel and the Book of Revelation are inherently religious and centered around God. As a result, most later apocalyptic literature is also religiously centered, with God as the instrumental entity (Shaffer 142). Those who have read J.R.R. Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings remember most vividly the final great battle where evil is overcome in the apocalyptic ending of an age. Tolkien s bit of apocalyptic literature in The Lord of the Rings seems different from traditional religious notions of an apocalypse because the entire epic fantasy seems devoid of religion and any notion of God. In observing congruencies between The Lord of the Rings and Christian thought, Colin Gunton notes, Evil is an essentially alien power which corrupts and destroys the work of God, and so has to be destroyed (Gunton 128). This critic believes that God is present in some form in The Lord of the Rings, and that evil in the story is a force against God. He is saying that where there is evil, there is also God, and that in The Lord of the Rings, evil is a power against God that God must eradicate. Because there is evil, and a demigod, Sauron, representative of it, there must be an opposition for the side of good, and this entity must eradicate the evil. The classic Christian notion of the way in which God eradicates evil is during the Apocalypse, and this Apocalypse is recorded in the Book of Revelation, the last book in the New Testament. This integral work of apocalyptic literature is the only one that gives a complete account, from beginning to end, of the foretold Christian apocalypse. It is also the basis for Christian apocalyptic belief. In this book, God is the entity who initiates the Apocalypse, but carries out the act through the help of angels. • 13. Cost Control in Health Maintenance Organizations Essay An HMO is an organized health care delivery system, which provides health care to its members through networks of doctors and hospitals. Rather than traditional health plans, HMO s cost less. Two ways HMO s control costs are: controlling hospital admission and length of stay, and by providing incentives to physicians. These two cost control methods are further examined by an article published by The National Bureau of Economic Research (2002). The article examines the incentives to physician strategy for reducing utilization cost. The Physician Guide to Managed Care (1994) describes HMOs the case management procedures used to control cost through hospital length of stay and admissions. Bonus levels are determined on the basis of performance, as performance improves the bonuses gradually become higher. HMO s rely on rates and member satisfaction survey results to measure provider performance. By keeping a certain level of member satisfaction, more revenue can be brought in through new enrollees. Financial incentives are generally more influential when it comes to physicians improving quality of care. According to the National Research Council (2001), research regarding payment and quality improvement efforts of health care administrators was presented at an Institute of Medicine Workshop in April of 2004. The research showed ,with the use of physician incentives the total direct savings in health care cost which include reduce visits and hospital episodes was an estimated net savings of about 2,000 per patient. For more than 13,000 diabetic patients managed by a physician group it was projected that the savings had the potential to generate over $10 million in net saving per year. Aligning financial incentives with physician s networks provides the achievement of better patient outcomes, but generally provides the HMO cost control over their equity. • 14. The Landlady By Roald Dahl The theme in the short story, The Landlady , by Roald Dahl is that naive people who judge outward appearances should avoid trusting deceptive strangers because this can result in death. The first example is when Billy first enters the Bed and breakfast and puts his stuff down. There were no hats and coats in the hall, there were no umbrellas, no walking sticks nothing (Dahl 26). This means that the place is empty because it is bad. This shows that Billy is naive and lacks wisdom. Furthermore, when talking with the landlady she says that Temple and Mulholland are still on the 4th floor together. But my dear boy, he never left. He s still here. Mr.Temple is also here. More importantly, when Billy and the landlady first meet each other, the landlady portrays herself as a good person. She was forty five or fifty years old, and the moment she saw him, she gave him a warm, welcoming smile (Dahl 24). This presents that the landlady is purposely misleading Billy to think that she is a good person when she is really not. This relates to the theme because the landlady is tricking Billy to thinking she is a good person so that he would stay. In the short story, there is a lot of figurative language. In fact, the author Roald Dahl uses foreshadowing to create suspense. For example, the tea tasted faintly of bitter almonds (Dahl 34). This quote shows foreshadowing because it gives the reader an idea of what the tea might contain in it, which was poison. In addition, the author uses imagery to give the reader an idea of how the character looks like. For instance, the back was hard and cold, and when he pushed the hair to one side with his fingers, he could see the skin underneath, grayish black and dry and perfectly preserved (Dahl ... Thomas Polk in Mecklenburg County, 1750 1800 With over 250 years of history as a county in North Carolina, Mecklenburg County has an extensive and fascinating story to tell. Established in 1762, the county that I call home has been a part of this country since before we gained our independence from Great Britain. When most Americans hear the surname Polk, they automatically think of our nation s eleventh president, James Knox Polk. A fraction of those people are able to tell you that James was born in Mecklenburg County and spent the first ten or so years of his life in present day Pineville. Very few, however, could tell you of James great uncle, Thomas Polk, who was crucial to the founding and progress of Mecklenburg County. Through my research, I have found numerous Polks who were either born in, raised in, or simply moved to Mecklenburg County. Some of these people had a minor impact on the area, but Thomas Polk influenced Mecklenburg County in a much bigger way. Polk had numerous accolades. Among them are Revolutionary War soldier, local political leader, prominent land surveyor, and government executive. In this paper, the time period is restricted from circa 1750 until circa 1800. These approximate dates correspond to the arrival of Thomas Polk to Mecklenburg County, and to his death. Nearly every aspect of this era of Mecklenburg County history has been touched in some aspect by Thomas Polk. The journey of the Polk family to the North Carolina Piedmont region is ... Introduction China s modern economic growth has been progressing on a scale that is unparalleled in the history of any nation, sustaining a growth rate of about 10% per year for the past 25 years. This is even more remarkable considering that the world is at a stage of transformation and globalization. In such times, countries with higher levels of technological development and human capital are naturally positioned to take advantage of the new growth opportunities. Although at the start of China s reform era the nation was underdeveloped relative to the powerful nations of the world, it has been able to close the gap significantly over the recent years. By piggybacking on the experience of cutting edge western firms, China can quickly move through the fast track of technological development. This expertise will be necessary as the government seeks to manage the sheer breakneck pace by which the economy is growing, and the pressure is further underpinned by the political restlessness and social fragility of the nation s large population. The MNC s have their own reasons and incentives for reciprocating the attention given to them. China has invested a lot of resources into its universities and education systems, and the direct result of this has been that Chinese cities now field a large and attractive labor pool of university educated workers. Additionally, China has already been home to a deep reserve of unskilled labor. The costs of this labor is relatively low compared to western countries and serves as a major drawing factor in attracting the attention of MNC s that seek to reduce their operating costs and ... I believe courage is being brave enough to face your fears and overcome adversities, and not look back. For many people they have to find courage to face new places and situations, which is where I have found the most courage in my life. Change is not easy and leaving everything you know is hard but I had to become courageous to overcome what I was faced with, and these difficulties have changed my life and made me a person I would have never been without them. • 19. The Pros And Cons Of Wildlife Management Wildlife management is one of the many branches within Natural Resource Management. This branch specifically dedicates its time and resources to doing exactly what it sounds like managing wildlife and the habitat they live in. However, they do this through not directly manipulating the organisms and habitats, but through the regulations of humans and their activities. It is easier to help animals by controlling human activity than it is to control the animal s activity. That is why the true focus of wildlife management lies in managing people, not the animals. There are numerous ways that humans affect wildlife, both in positive and negative ways. Humans act as a predator to populations where natural predators have a small population or have been extirpated from an area. They can remove aggressive or sick animals from a population. Some of the more negative impacts of humans can be over harvesting a population to the point of an endangered status or driving them to extinction. When settlers began to expand westward, many saw economic opportunity. Whether it was trapping beavers for their fur, killing bison for hides, or trapping songbirds for their feathers, people were tearing populations apart just to make money. It seemed as if America was plentiful and had an infinite amount of resources. However, that was not the case. Due to people s carelessness, many species that once roamed the land and skies are now extinct. Back then, there were no hunting regulations for humans and no legal protection for the animals. One such animals that has suffered from this was the Carolina parakeet (Conuropsis carolinensis). This species was a beautiful yellow and orange headed, green bodied parakeet that inhabited the Eastern United States. It was hunted for a number of things, including destroying farmers crops and having a high demand in the feather trade due to their vibrant colors. This article was particularly helpful because it focused on the United Kingdom so I was then better able to create this arrest warrant to the degree that it would have been created for Ricky s case. This article goes into detail on when the warrant should be issued and what the prosecutor must do to get the warrant. This journal helps the reader better understand what the Police Reform and Social Responsibility bill means. It says, The effect of the clause is to require the consent of the Director of Public Prosecutions before an arrest warrant can be issued in private prosecutions for offenses where universal jurisdiction applies. The Physician-Paternalistic Relationship In our society and classrooms, more often than not, it is argued that when a physician and their patient have a paternalistic relationship, it is deemed unacceptable and needs to be addressed. However, Komrad argues that a paternalistic relationship can actually be a beneficial factor between a physician and their patient. Komrad creates the concept of a limited paternalism where it preserves an individual s freedom as much as possible in the hope of eventually broadening it (42). One of the main components of this paternalism is acknowledging that from the very beginning of a physician patient relationship, it is an asymmetrical relationship because of the patient s already diminished autonomy. These changes include educational opportunities, use of contraception, more public participation, and greater participation in the paid workforce. With the persistence of patriarchy, the presence of religion, and the current spotlight on the Middle East, life of Muslim women still remains invisible. It is valuable to explore the ways in which Muslim women explain their place in society today. The structure of the play employs well defined heroes and villains. Revenge is their key motivating factor. All of these elements combine to form a cohesive plot and contribute to the overall success of the story. Shakespeare s sources for the play are quite clear. Heavy metal had a huge impact in the 1980 s and there were many successful bands. Van Halen took heavy metal to new heights. After more than two decades of playing sold out concert halls, selling millions of albums and enduring various lineup changes and solo projects, Van Halen is recognized as one of the most resilient and successful rock bands to emerge from the 1970s and continue into the 1980 s. Eddie and Alex Van Halen were raised in Pasadena, the children of Dutch immigrants who immigrated to California in 1967. The Van Halen brothers grew up taking classical piano lessons. ... Rising tensions between Roth and the other band members were increasingly evident; on their 1984 world tour the band didn t even play on the same stage, but rather performed on four separate platforms, symbolic of the escalating rift among its members. Finally, in 1985, after taking time off to record a successful solo album (and delaying work on the follow up to 1984) Roth parted ways with Van Halen. This group proved to be the starting point of heavy metal, starting out in the 1970 s and continuing through the first half of the 1990 s. After groups paved the way for heavy metal, one band can be the representative of the heavy metal style in the 1980 s. Metallica was formed on October 15, 1981 by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. Lars played the drums while James was on vocals and guitar. Kirk Hammett joined the band in 1982 and became the band s lead guitarist. Metallica s bass player was Jason Newsted, after their first bassist, Cliff Murton, was killed in a bus crash. • 43. Xu Bing s The New York When people were still perplexed by Xu Bing s nonsense writing and atypical interpretations of traditional Chinese idioms around the early 2000s, Xu Bing started to work on an unconventional interior installation in 2008, after his return from the United States. The whole project, which is made of made of construction debris and light emitting diodes (Xu Bing Studio), took two years to finish and named as Feng Huang in Chinese, the same as Phoenix in English. The integrated representations of Xu Bing s Phoenix not only represent human being s graceful expectations for the future in Eastern culture, but also manifest the abilities of rebirthing to achieve eternal lives in Western culture. At the same time, he was invited to create a commercial project for Beijing Central Business District, CBD. When he entered the construction site of this building, the animalistic hot temperature and rough skin in its interior enthralled Xu Bing s attention immediately. The direct contrast of the migrant workers harsh working conditions and splendid appearances of mansions motivated Xu Bing to record this striking impression of his homeland. Unexpectedly, sponsor of this project agreed to his idea of making a work of art out of useless materials in the atrium of the building, which looks like a big cage (Xiong Artron), representing China s new wealth, prosperity, and capitalistic spirit (Traub). The paradoxical representation of the most prosperous fortune center in Beijing and grandeur Phoenix, which are made of the surplus materials, to some extent, dramatically critique the growing capitalism in China. However, following the Olympic games suspended all constructions and truck transportations in Beijing, making them difficult to collect building debris. Shortly, the global economic crisis forced the sponsor of the Phoenix to reconsider its support. As Xu Bing said in the interview, When the economy was growing, they had a greater tolerance for art, humor, self mockery, and a bit of self criticism. However, when things turn bad, their ability to accept this kind of artwork became limited (Traub). Xu Bing suspended the construction of the Phoenix, rather than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Types of Insurance Types of insurance Any risk that can be quantified can potentially be insured. Specific kinds of risk that may give rise to claims are known as perils. An insurance policy will set out in detail which perils are covered by the policy and which are not. Below are non exhaustive lists of the many different types of insurance that exist. A single policy may cover risks in one or more of the categories set out below. For example, vehicle insurance would typically cover both the property risk (theft or damage to the vehicle) and the liability risk (legal claims arising from an accident). Certain life insurance contracts accumulate cash values, which may be taken by the insured if the policy is surrendered or which may be borrowed against. Some policies, such as annuities and endowment policies, are financial instruments to accumulate or liquidate wealth when it is needed. In many countries, such as the US and the UK, the tax law provides that the interest on this cash value is not taxable under certain circumstances. This leads to widespread use of life insurance as a tax efficient method of saving as well as protection in the event of early death. In the US, the tax on interest income on life insurance policies and annuities is generally deferred. However, in some cases the benefit derived from tax deferral may be offset by a low return. This depends upon the insuring company, the type of policy and other variables (mortality, market return, etc.). Moreover, other income tax saving vehicles (e.g., IRAs, 401(k) plans, Roth IRAs) may be better alternatives for value accumulation. • 45. Mrs. Dalloway I. Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, was published on May 14, 1925 in London, England. The novel follows Clarissa Dalloway and a variety of other characters throughout the span of one day in their lives in 1923 London. Woolf utilizes a narrative method of writing. With the novel s structure, the narrator possesses the ability to move inside of a character s mind and compose her thoughts and emotions immediately as events occur throughout the day. The novel s main character, Clarissa, is a middle aged woman who belongs to the upper middle class in society and is well married to a Member of Parliament Richard Dalloway. Clarissa s day is full of arrangements for a dinner party she plans to host that evening. During the novel, numerous other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than hold lengthy conversations between characters, she frequently writes only of small talk and leaves more serious topics to be recited in an individual s exclusive thoughts. One of her purposes in writing the novel is to expose the hypocrisy of society. The characters in the novel range from eccentric acquaintances to extravagant lords and ladies to vindictive tutors to suicidal veterans. One example of this theme occurs when Rezia and Septimus attempt to settle down in the park. When the airplane soars overhead, she writes, Tears ran down his cheeks (Woolf 21). While one may mistake this as joy or, at worst, sorrow over the recent war, Woolf gives the reality of the action beneath the surface, stating, They are signaling to me... this exquisite beauty... but he would not go mad. He would see no more (21). While Septimus dwindles on the brink of insanity, Rezia chatters away about nature, unaware of the mess resting beside her. Septimus portrays the appearance of one man yet expresses an entirely new persona through his contemplations. Another instance of the theme transpires when Miss Kilman and Clarissa wait for Elizabeth to retrieve her gloves before going shopping. Clarissa and Kilman both make attempts at small talk. However, both give their attentions to a mutual disgust of each other. Clarissa simply asks if Kilman is taking Elizabeth to the stores. Kilman replies dryly, but in ... He was fully against the government system they currently had and he had annulled the 1965 constitution, dissolved the congress and had banned all political parties. This turned the government system in Guatemala to be fully under the control of the army. He also would later that year form local civilian defense groups to work alongside the military in search of the guerilla fighters. They had recovered most of the territory that the guerilla fighters had gained and gave no place for guerilla fighters to feel safe. • 47. The Role of Nobility in Sir Thomas Malory’s Tale of Sir... The value of nobility in the middle ages can hardly be questioned. The majority of nobles lived a life of luxury, having riches beyond the wildest dreams of commoners. When one thinks of medieval knights, nobility is often comes to mind, but did knights have to be members of the noble class? Sir Thomas Malory s The Tale of Sir Gareth examines this question and presents an interesting view as to the true value of a knight. Malory uses the actions of important characters to reveal his opinion that the nobility of a knight was secondary to his integrity, courage, and benevolence. Many characters in Malory s world view nobility as an absolute must and even a synonym for being a knight. Sir Kay is a telling example of this. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Sir Gareth leaves Lady Lyoness, disappointed that his prize has rejected him for a year, she sends her brother Sir Gryngamour to retrieve Beaumains dwarf in order to question it of Beaumains true name. Once she learns of Sir Gareth s nobility she concludes she can love him (Malory 156). Sir Gareth s attempt to regain his dwarf reveals another aspect of his knighthood, his masculinity, as he threatens Sir Gryngamour if the dwarf isn t safely returned to him (Huber 52). While there are no doubts that Lyoness is an important character, one has to wonder about the importance Malory places on her views. Asking Sir Gareth to prove himself for a year winning more fame was an absurd proposition, especially considering his impressive victory through the Passage Perelous and defeat of the Red Knight. Her actions prove her to be somewhat dimwitted. Malory uses Lyoness to further expose the lack of value of nobility in a knight. Another minor character, the dwarf, reveals other attributes of knighthood. When the dwarf is stolen by Sir Gryngamour, Sir Gareth is given the opportunity to show off his masculinity, as he challenges Sir Gryngamour to a fight to win the dwarf back (Huber 52). The dwarf also gains fame for Sir Gareth when he removes the ring that disguises Sir Gareth (Huber 53). After ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
