International Differences Of Well Being
As I continued my research, Ruut Veenhoven stated this question in Chapter 11 of the book
International Differences of Well Being the discussions centers on whether happiness is similar for all
humans or rather something that varies across cultures (328). This question interests me, because it is
a question that I think is very important. We all have a wide range of different priorities and values.
First, he chooses to define happiness: I use the word happiness for a subjective state of mind, which I
define as the overall appreciation of one s life as a whole. Happiness is the sum of pleasures and pains
. Happiness in this sense is synonymous with life satisfaction and subjective well being (Veenhoven
329). Veenhoven, then, breaks up the questions How universal is happiness into sub questions because
it is too broad to answer. Veenhoven says that, although the mood is something we are aware of it is
mostly not in the foreground of our consciousness. It is still assessable, and we can estimate how well
we feel most of the time, unlike babies.
Overall, Veenhoven finds that the circumstances of being happy seem to be the same across the world
and so are the consequences of enjoying life or not (329). Veenhoven s use of surveys and statistics
makes his research believable to his audience. He shows that being happy is not complicated, and
most people know whether they are happy with life or not. I think if we looked at the specifics of what
made us happy,

New York Times Case
The Supreme Court in New York Times Co. v. United States was a very controversial case and
remains to this day one that is accompanied by a range of different opinions. The case pertains to the
Vietnam War, government secrecy, and the right to a free press. President Nixon believed he was right
in attempting to suppress the rights of the first amendment on the New York Times, this was a
completely unjust move by President Nixon. Ultimately, the court ended up ruling in the New York
Times favor which was the proper and correct thing to do. In 1967 Robert McNamara who was the
secretary of defense, ordered a secret study to be done at the pentagon about the effects that the United
States policies had on the Vietnam War. The study takes roughly 3 years and ends up being over two
million words in length. Daniel Ellsberg who worked at the pentagon in the 1970 s ended up coming
across the pentagon papers and was quite disturbed about its content. Certain content from the
pentagon papers essentially casts a bad shadow on the actions of the United States government In
Vietnam. Examples of such content are information of illegal bombings, secret ... Show more content

He went ahead and made a copy of the papers and dropped it off at the New York Times. The New
York Times then began publishing articles based on the pentagon papers. President Nixon took notice
and was distraught by it. Even though there is nothing in the constitution giving a president the power
to stop the presses, there are things in the constitution that ultimately make the president the
commander in chief. Nixon drew out of that, the authority of prior restraint. Prior restraint means that
you can stop the presses before the presses have run. Nixon and his attorney used the espionage act
from World War 1 to claim that this was a national security issue. This in result gave Nixon the
executive privilege to issue prior

The Alchemist Essay
The Alchemist is a wonderful fiction novel by Paulo Coelho. The novella, published in 1988, is a huge
success, selling over 150 million copies and making it to the top charts. (addicted2success) . Coelho
succeeds in delivering his message smoothly and innovatively throughout the story; one should
forever live to pursue his personal legend and never give up on his dream. (Coelho). The monomyth
applies to the main character of the novella, Santiago, a young Shepard with enough passion and will
to uncover his personal legend. The boy gets called to start his search for his personal legend through
a dream, a dream of a child grabbing on his hand to the pyramids of Egypt, unleashing a secret of a
treasure buried under the deserts sand. Later on, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Santiago makes it to Africa, where he looses all his money to a thief. He is now a strange person in a
strange land, helpless and penniless. At this point of his journey, Santiago was in real need for an
assistant to help his dream survive this challenge. Santiago starts to search for a way to get money and
luckily a crystal merchant struggling to keep his trade afloat hires him. Using omens, he brings new
ideas and enhances the merchant s business. As time passes, his dream of the treasure starts fading
away. Months go by, and the boy builds up quite a nest egg. The crystal merchant is a clear helper; he
gave Santiago a hand when he really needed it. At this stage, Santiago is once again split in choice; he
could return to Europe and double his sheep flock or try to peruse his dream again. Even though the
crystal merchant supported Santiago through his hard times, he also reflects a negative example for
the Shepard to avoid, as he is someone who gave up on his personal legend. This gives the boy an
enthusiastic push to get on a caravan and head to the pyramids. During this checkpoint, Santiago
learns Arabic and gains a great deal of money as well as experience, which really came in handy all

Harper Lee s Go Set A Watchman changed the way many people view Harper Lee. The book also
changed the way the view people had on the characters of her story s. Harper Lee s first book, To Kill

Managers of CPB employees are held to the same standards of conduct as their employees. In
addition, according to paragraph 5.5 of the standards of conduct (Augilar, 2012), they are also charged
with providing advice and guidance to the employees under their command, and they must also clear
any confusion those employees might have with the document. Thus, managers are not only expected
to know the standards of conduct, but must be able to pass judgement on what is ethical in the context
of the document. Because the standards are always applicable to employees, managers must be
available to serve as mentors to their employees around the clock as well. While it could be argued
that the standards are ridiculously high, the organizational culture of the Border Patrol is similar to the
military. It is expected that federal agents are held to a higher standard due to their duty to the nation.

The Death Of Romeo And Juliet s Death
Once upon a time there was a boy named Romeo and a girl named Juliet, who lived separately but
loved each other dearly. This story is about a boy and a girl whom their families hated each other
deeply and they were enemies because they always fight with each other. The end of this beautiful
love ended in tragedy with the death of the two star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Many people
had different opinions about who to blame for Romeo and Juliet s death. Some of them said that the
environmental factors (fate) caused their deaths. Others said that the authority Figures was blamed for
their deaths. Part of people were blaming Romeo and Juliet (themselves) for their death. Actually, all
of these statements blame for Romeo and Juliet s death and there are a lot of evidences that would
support my opinion. One of the causes that lead to Romeo and Juliet s death is the environmental
factors (fate included). Environmental factors have been about the time that they were living in, the
feud between the families, and destiny. The feud of the families caused their death because if the
families weren t enemies, then, they won t get married secretly, or god had chosen for them this life. I

The essay topic I will be looking into in detail is Sustainability has become central to modern life and
often causes controversy. Choose an artefact that could be defined as sustainable and analyse it,
considering its functional, ethical and aesthetic characteristics . The reason for choosing this topic is to
consider the damaged done to the environment, ecosystem and wildlife to do what we as the public
wants in our daily life. The research will explore new ways of manufacturing, producing energy and
reducing the carbon prints of sourcing out materials as well the recycling processes of the product.

The major difference between sustainability and sustainable design is the ability of a designer to
design a product to be classified as a sustainable design and which also complies with the rules that
guide the environmental, economic and social impact of the product.
If we are to deal effectively with the many contemporary issues of environmental degradation and
social inequality of the resources and benefits of society, we are going to have to rethink our notions
of our materialism culture, especially in the economically developed countries. The power to change
the way we design, manufacture our products, recycle and market it falls on the designers. Potentially,
designers can make a significant contribution to this undertake by developing possible solutions that
challenge precedents and demonstrate alternative possibilities. But to achieve this according to Stuart
walker we will need to change design education and design practice and develop new understandings
of product aesthetics and our notions of what can be called a good design.
Stuart Walker went on to say, depending on whether we like it or not, within the discipline of
industrial or product design industry, there is a major emphasis on product appearance, in both
professional practice and design education, and it is this engrossment that, in many ways, renders
Products aesthetics hollow and superficial.
A designed product that gave the perfect response to this

Death Penalty Decline
Also offenders aged fifteen and younger at the time of their crimes was unconstitutional ( introduction
to the death penalty ). This shows that there are many factors that prevent a person from getting the
death penalty and these limitations protects them from it. In recent years, the United States numbers of
death sentences are steadily declining from 300 in 1998 to 106 in 2009 ( introduction to the death
penalty ). This shows that the usage of the death penalty is declining and many people are not being
punished with the death penalty. This also shows that the death penalty is still being used in certain
crimes in the United States. This is showing that the death penalty might not be used as much in the
future.

Essay on Historical Macbeth Compared To Shakespeares Macbeth
Although most of Shakespeare s play quot; Mac Beth quot; is not historically accurate, MacBeth s life
is the subject of the tragedy. There are characters and events that are based on true events and real
persons but, Shakespeare s quot;MacBeth quot; differs significantly from history s MacBeth. The first
example of a difference between the Shakespeare quot;MacBeth quot; and historical Mac Beth is the
death of Duncan I. In Shakespeare s quot; Mac Beth quot;, Duncan I was murdered by MacBeth.
A prophecy said to Mac Beth by one of the three witches quot; All hail, MacBeth, that shalt be King

In reality though, he was one of the best kings that Scotland ever had. quot; During his reign, he went
on a pilgrimage to Rome for several months4. quot; His kingdom was in well enough order and he
was in high enough regard with his nobleman that he could leave for a long period of time. Another
way you could tell that Mac Beth was a good king because, quot; He organized troops of men to patrol
the wilder countryside and enforce some type of law and order5. quot; As far as historians know, this
was the first type of law and order in Scotland before 1100. Shakespeare had financial and political
motivation to change some of the historical facts. In order for him to receive payment for his writing it

Imperial Colonization In China
I believe that Imperial colonization in China is a great idea. For one, China is a very large country
with lots of unused resources. This means that it would be easy for you to find an unused and untaken
area for you to find many resources you need. China has lots of silk, tea, and porcelain and these are
all very popular and much needed resources. Another reason why colonization in China is a great idea
is because it would be easy to get through the government. With China s vast amounts of land and
with such a weak government, it would be very difficult for China to control its enormous territory.
China s government would be too weak to hold back all of the imperialists, so this would be the
perfect area of them to colonize and take what they

The ancient Greek and ancient Roman religion was the belief in gods.
They had similar beliefs, but also vast differences. They came from each other and gave their people a

the everyday life of the average
Roman and Greek person of that time. They believed in something called polytheism. It is the belief of
many gods; each given a personality, function, relationship to each other through family, and to be the

Vasopressin Case Study
The oxidation of blood components by the oxygen released from erythrocytes may cause
hypothalamic pituitary adrenal insufficiency [67]. Primary and secondary adrenal insufficiency occurs
in patients with sepsis and is associated with a poor outcome [68 71]. Blood oxidation affects the
hypothalamo pituitary thyroidal axis, inactivating thyrotropine , thyroid gland hormones
(triiodothyronine(TT3), thyroxine (TT4) and their binding proteins. Thyroid hormone regulates
metabolism and has impact on sepsis prognosis. The level of TT4 is lower in patients with septic
shock than in patients without septic shock [72 74]. De iodinations of iodothyronines play key roles in
metabolic regulation [75, 76].
Vasopressin (Antidiuretic hormone) also is oxidized by the oxygen released from erythrocytes.
Vasopressin plays a role in circulatory homeostasis and serum osmolality. Oxytocin and vasopressin
are oxidized with formation of dityrosine [77]. Its oxidation and depletion cause vasodilatory shock a

Lab #6: Preparation of 2 chloro 2 methylbutane an Sn 1 Reaction
Purpose
The purpose of this experiment was to prepare an alkyl halide, 2 chloro 2 methylbutane by reacting 2
methyl 2 butanol (t amyl alcohol) with hydrochloric acid. Alkyl halides are of wide interest because
they are widespread and have diverse beneficial and detrimental impacts .The overall reaction is given
below:
Procedure
1 ml of 2 methyl 2 butanol was measured using 1 ml syringe and transferred into a 5 ml conical vial.
2.5 ml of highly concentrated Hydrochloric acid was then slowly added while the vial was constantly
swirled. After mixing alcohol with HCl the vial was capped with a screw cap and gently shaken for
about 10 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this particular reaction calculations were straight forward due to 1:1 stoichiometric ratio with an
excess of acid. Using physical density constant, the volume of 2 methyl 2 butanol was first converted
into grams of alcohol. The grams were then converted into moles of alcohol using its molecular
weight. Using the reaction stoicheometry, the moles were then converted into moles of chloride
(product). Finally knowing the molecular weight of the product allowed to convert grams into moles.
Calculating mass of 2 methyl 2 butanol:
Density = mass/volume mass = density x volume = 0.815 (g/ml) x 1 (ml) =0.815 g
Moles = grams/ MW = 0.815 (g) / 88.15 (g/mol) = 0.00925 moles
Using 1:1 stoichiometric ratio for product theoretical yield estimation:
0.00925 moles x MW of chloride (35.45) = 0.328 grams of product
Percent Yield = Actual yield / theoretical x 100% = 0.228 (g) / 0.328 (g) x 100% = 69.51 %
Discussion
It is not uncommon to have a percent yield less than 100% as was observed in our experiment.
Imperfect percent yield can be interpreted that the condition were not optimal and could be improved.
Despite careful measurements some component will still be lost during transferring between
containers. One way to get a better percent yield is by minimizing transfers. A low percent yield could
be a result of evaporation

Right To Free Speech Persuasive Speech
The right to free speech is one of the most precious rights an individual has as a citizen of the United
States of America. This right gives people the opportunity to speak their mind and give their opinions
of what they think should happen. These rights have been questioned and exercised throughout
history, and have produced extremely positive things in a lot of cases. In modern times, people are
always protesting something and in the colonial times it was the same. People wanted their voice to be
heard and as long as it is done in a peaceful manner it is legal now, but it resulted in punishment for
the colonists. People have never questioned whether or not these rights should exist, the questions
involve whether there should be limits or not. No matter what side the authorities take, there are only
two main points to deal with cyberstalking: free speech is an essential right, but it should not be meant
to include hate speech.
A system that tolerates hate speech is probably superior to the alternatives, but defenders of an
absolute right can t pretend no one gets hurt. Epps (2014) suggested that free speech does do harm and
it has to be defended: hate speech may be for individual members of minorities or other targeted
groups, its toleration is to their great collective benefit. What Epps means is that hate speech can cause
people harming themselves or most of them decide to end their lives. For example, this goes back to
the boy name Roy that committed suicide after his girlfriend kept sending him multiple text messages,
The judge said he did not take into account in his verdict Roy s previous suicide attempts (Truesdell,
Pennington, Hanlon, 2017). What the writer seem to suggest might have been perceived as of how
many times the boy tried to kill himself but failed until the last time he did it. Finally, Hate speech is
often misunderstood because it can be classified as either careless or intentionally hurtful. Many
people interpret careless statements as acts of aggression, but with good reason. It would be false to
say that the freedom of speech has never been manipulated to inflict damage upon others. Questions
have been risen of what hate speech is and if it should be allowed to be viewed by

American And Nigerian Culture Essay
American and Nigerian cultures are alike in some aspects of life, while being dissimilar in other
aspects. This idea is clearly exemplified when one compares their own experience and knowledge of
culture in America to that description and portrayal of Nigerian culture as seen through Buchi
Emecheta s novel, The Wrestling Match.
Both of our societies can be looked at as parallel in how teenagers are typically stereotyped, rivalry
among towns/villages, and the attainment of manhood or maturity through experiences or
accomplishments.
Contrary to the similarity of the cultures, there are also some basic differences. One of the main

Lastly, Okei s ( Okei is a teen who lives in Igbuno and is the novel s main character) Uncle Obi
Agiliga is convinced that the teenagers of Igbuno are setting an terrible immoral example for the

How many teenagers in our society have not had an immediate finger of blame pointed at them when
something happens or goes wrong? How many of us have not been told what a terrible example we
are setting for our younger siblings?
Teenagers seem to be synonymous with rude, obnoxious, and difficult, stubborn, etc. Another
similarity of cultures gleaned from Emecheta s writing is reaction to rivalry. A very important event to
the villages in the novel was the wrestling match which pits the Akpei Uma aya Biafra against the
Igbuno Uma aya Baifra. There is much preparation of the athletes and many people attend.
In addition, at the market, the Akpei people would not purchase produce from
Josephine Kwutelu and other girls also from Igbuno since they are from the competitors side.
A similar event we have right here in the Pennridge Community is the annual Pennridge Quakertown
Football game. It generates quite a rivalry, much time is spent in preparation and many many people
attend.
Finally, in both Nigerian and American cultures, it is perceived that manhood is

Most Powerful Man in 1920 s, Al Capone Essay
Chicago in the 1920 s was known to be a town of relentless parties, alcohol, and violence filled streets.
The mastermind pulling the strings was the world s most notorious gangster, Al Capone, whom
utilized the teachings of Frankie Yale and Johnny Torrio to become the most powerful man in the
underworld. He was a man of raw brutality and wits, paying off anyone willing to help him grow in
power, and kill off anyone who wouldn t. Al Capone was not like any ordinary criminal, he set out to

While other kids his age were learning things in school, Capone was learning how to shoot and fight.
In 1910, the Capone family saves up enough money to move to 21 Garfield Place, Park Slope, which
was a much better environment. Although the Capone family moved to a better side of town, the
hardships continued. Capone helped to support his family by taking on a variety of odd jobs; such as a
pin setter and cloth cutter, while maintaining a membership in the local Five Points Gang. Eventually
Al Capone, whilst working for the Five Points Gang, grabs the attention of the notorious New York
mobster, Frankie Yale. In 1917, Al Capone lands a job working as a bartender, waiter, and bouncer at
Frankie s Harvard Inn. Frankie Yale became a mentor of Al Capone, and he learned a lot from Yale on
how to use fear as a method of leadership. While working at the Harvard Inn, Capone found himself in
a fight with Frank Gallucio, resulting in three knife wounds on his left cheek. This is where Al Capone

Compare And Contrast Autumn And Winter
Both autumn and winter are special times of year.
Whether you call it autumn, fall, that one season after summer with the cool leaves, or anything else, it
has place in all our hearts. Winter may be disliked by some for the harsh weather and cold atmosphere,
but I love all winter has to offer.
I love late fall and early winter because of the holidays and the traditions they bring, the soft snow,
and winter break.
Holidays are times full of family, games, and celebration. They re designed to be fun and memorable
experiences to commemorate different concepts, and they certainly do it well.
October 31st is a time of the spooky and kooky, people of all ages decorating their homes, inside and
out. Anyone and everyone can decorate in any way they please. Whether cartoony, gory, realistic or
outlandish, there s a way to spice up your residence for everyone.
Pumpkin carving is long held practice, people once upon a time adorning gourds and turnips too. With
new technology, it s easy to utilize dry ice, projectors, and sound effects for maximum impact, but it s
always nice to return to simple homemade decorations.
When you think of Halloween, you probably think of trick or treating. Putting on a costume is a thrill
like no other! The classics will always have a special place in my heart, but there are recourses to
dress up as anything. Outlandish or understated, trick or treating holds a special place in my heart.

Bubble Gum
Have you ever wondered who invented bubble gum, or why it s pink? How do you go about getting

Popular With Children, Unpopular with Parents and Teachers. The first known bubble gum appeared
in 1906, and was a dud. Known as Blibber Blubber, it was sticky, brittle, and insufficiently cohesive.
In 1928, an accountant, Walter Diemer, invented an improved version of bubble gum. The only food
coloring he had on hand was pink, so for many years, pink was the common color of bubble gums.
Diemer arranged to market the bubble gum in Philadelphia candy stores and the product became

snuff users. The chewing gums served as a drug delivery system for nicotine. By the late 1980s, anti
smoking efforts of health professionals and increasingly stringent regulations against smoking in
public places created a new market for nicotine containing gums. Such medicinal gums might help in
nicotine withdrawal. The objective was to have the addicted smoker chew rather than smoke, with the
hope that eventually the person would become a non smoker and a non chewer at least, a non nicotine

The Survival Of Organisms Depends On Adaptive Behavior And...
Survival of organisms depends on adaptive behavior and species interactions. Taxis is less or more
automatic movement towards or away from a stimulus or direct movement. An example of taxis is
when a plant is put by a windowsill. The plant grows towards the light. Another example is when
stream fish automatically swim upward in the upstream direction. This example is considered positive
taxis. This type of taxis allows the fish to swim in the direction of food and allows them to not be
swept away. Kinesis is a simple change in activity or turning rate in response to a stimulus or random
movement in response to stimulus. An example of kinesis is when sow bugs become more active in
dry areas and less active in humid areas. Sow bugs does vary depending on humidity, however sow
bugs do not move toward or away from suitable moisture levels. Both taxis and kinesis will guarantee
that organisms will remain in environments that increase their chances of survival. When organisms
are put into critical conditions its activities will decrease, although when an organism is put into
positive conditions the organism will stay in that condition for the longest time possible. This behavior
will increase the survivorship of individuals of a species. Migration is a regular long distance change
in location. During migration many animals pass through environments that they have not formally
been too before. Migration can be caused by seasonal changes. For example, some bird species

How Did Mulholland Build The Aqueduct
During the 1900 s the city of Los Angeles and its surroundings were growing at a fast rate. As an
effect, the demand for basic needs developed day by day; more specifically, water demand. The just
appointed Los Angeles Bureau of Water Works and Supply, Fred Eaton suggested to build a new
aqueduct from Owens Valley to 250 miles south that could store water supply for at least two years.
His first step was to hire self taught engineer, William Mullholland, who seemed to had knowledge
about the un researched area where the aqueduct would be built. After analyzing different options,
Mulholland decided to build the dam in San Francisquito. However, Mulholland s lack of education
seemed to worry expert engineers. Therefore, a board named Aqueduct ... Show more content on

First, the geology where the dam was being built foreshadowed that slippage could happen. Second,
the concrete had not been reinforced with steel and it lacked contraction joints which helped the
expansion of concrete in high temperatures. Third, the dam did not have underneath tunnels or
passages that allowed the inspection of the dam to know if cracks or leaks were present. Lastly,
Mulholland made the decision to utilize concrete instead of clay cores due to the lack of clayey
materials. As a result of this material choice, the dam had to be re designed. Therefore, the dam was
built with a 175 feet high curved side with steps going down all the way to the bottom. As mentioned
before the city of Los Angeles and its surroundings was growing in increasing in population faster
than ever. To proportion this growth, Mulholland added 10 feet to the original height of the dam.
However, this adjustment was made without adjusting the width of the dam, resulting in a
disproportion. Nonetheless, Mulholland concluded the dam was still within the margins of safety.
After two years of construction the dam was completed in May

Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen in the...
The Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen is an important document of the French
Revolution. The National Assembly passed it on August 6, 1789. The Declaration presents the idea of
inalienable rights of humans regardless of social status or privilege. It, along with support of the
majority of France, was instrumental in putting an end to the Ancien Regime. The Ancien Regime was
the old order matriarchal way, and the people of France were tired of the control this absolute
monarchy had over them. The French Revolution was a turning point in European history that would
forever change the government of France. Not only were the citizens unhappy with their current
government, but the majority were suffering from the economic crisis as the result of war. Forty years
of wars in which France was involved had taken its toll on the economy. In addition to the drain on
finances by war, the extravagant lifestyles of the aristocracy also drained France s treasury. Though
economy was definitely a cause of the French Revolution, it was not the only cause. Like the
American Revolution that occurred a decade earlier, there were many reasons for the revolt but the
main goal being equality for all. One catalyst of the French Revolution was the Ancien Regime s
social structure. For centuries, the people of France were divided into three distinct groups, also
known as Estates or Orders. The First Estate consisted of the Clergy of the French Catholic Church.

Magical Realism In The Virgin Suicide

Shostak acknowledges Eugenides writing as a call for change within the modern era. Shostak details
the Lisbon Girls and their suicides as a great metaphor: representing what is wrong with the country ,
being the novel s ultimate scapegoat [...] predicting the forthcoming decadence , or suicide to reflect
the natural deaths due to industrialization (207). Shostak sees many reasons for Eugenides writing
about the tragic death of young girls. Primarily, Eugenides is depicting the younger generation as
morally corrupted. Shostak argues Eugenides writes with a greater purpose than to sadden his
audience with horrible stories. Shostak argues Eugenides writes with the purpose to educate his
reader: to send morally equipped readers to face a corrupted world armed with opinions and an
understanding of tragedy. The Virgin Suicides raises awareness of teen suicide. Eugenides begins
many conversations with his works, particularly this dark love story, with underlying notions to our
disappointing world.

Although it did have a few positive impacts, it mostly effected the country negatively. While Manifest

Those who heavily influenced the idea of Manifest Destiny like John O Sullivan, who also created it,

nation at the time known for its strong holdings on conservative traditions and values. It was the first
movement of artists and designers who were devoted to the renewal of art s meaning the projection of
inner states of emotion. Led by Gustav Klimt, the Secession was the most influential breakaway;
rejecting the revivalist styles endorsed by the conservative academies, the group promoted an art that
would celebrity modernity. The Secession was largely attributed for the responsibility of the rise to
international fame of several of its members, including Gustav Klimt, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Koloman
Moser and Josef Hoffman, who helped Austrian art become renowned once again. There were no
unifying characteristics between paintings or sculptures, or even architecture: instead, its members
were committed to the ideal of modernizing Austrian art by acquainting it with latest modern art
movements Art Nouveau, Post Impressionism and Expressionism. The initial movement was short
lived. By 1905, there were internal divisions ultimately fracturing the group s monopoly on the scene
for contemporary and decorative arts (Rosenman). However, the Secession was vital for the promotion
of Austrian contemporary art.
In 1903, Hoffman and fellow associate Moser and banker Fritz Warndorfer founded the Wiener
Werkstatte, Vienna Workshop. It was a decorative

Why Is The Tenth Amendment Important
The tenth Amendment
The power not delegated to the united states by the constitution, nor prohibited by it to the state, are
reserved to the states respectively, or to the people (10, Bill of rights). This Amendment was included
in Bill of Rights to express the balance power between the federal government and state government.
The amendment says that the federal government has only those powers given by the Constitution.
Those powers are to declare war, to collect taxes, to formulate business activities between states and
many more which are listed in the articles. According to the Amendment the power which are not
listed in the article, belongs to the states or the people. The tenth amendment is the most important
constitution among the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast state governments have all powers which are not clearly prevented by the state or U.S
Constitution. Thus, states have extensive powers and can do things that Congress cannot do. For
example, states can require young students to attend school and drivers to purchase automobile
insurance. Sometimes the congress and the white house think that federal government can to whatever
the majority yearn. However, the tenth amendment clearly prevents the majority from doing whatever
they want. Thus, they gave the federal government a very limited list of powers and other powers
reserved by the states and the people. They also provided an elaborate system of checks and balances
to limit the power of the majority to inflict its will. The Founders felt so strongly about limited federal
power as a bulwark of liberty that they added the Ten Amendment as the final exclamation point in the
Bill of Rights the federal government doesn t have the right to destroy the rights of people by
assuming powers that it did not have, which is reserved by states and the people. (By George Landrith,

Ethnical Values In American Culture
American ethnical values are built upon the respect for the dignity of every human life, the hunger for
discovery, the ability to maintain harmony with others and nature, establishing a government built for
the people, and ran by the people. These ethnical values have been the basis for American culture
since the beginning and they continue to make an impact and grow in today s society. The Iroquois
Indians had a very open and accepting democratic society that involved everyone, including the
women which wasn t very prevalent in culture at this time. Compared to the Puritan society which
didn t have strong leadership or a healthy working government, Puritan society also looked down
upon women. The Puritans saw other people as an inconvenience, ... Show more content on

The preachers would use the persuasive technique pathos on their audience to scare them. They
wanted to diminish the emotions of this heavily church going society. They wanted to induce fear
upon them so that they would feel obligated to do what is right in the Puritans eyes. All your
righteousness, would have no more influence to uphold you and keep you out of hell, than a spider s
web would have to stop a fallen rock , this shows how no matter what the Puritans do they will never
be good enough for God and therefore are damned to hell (Edwards 120). The Puritans would exile
anybody who disagreed or was different because they didn t want that to influence their culture. This
shows that the Puritans were a shallow people, who only cared for themselves and for their own good.
Women were treated more like objects in this society because all they were used for in the Puritan
society was making babies and cooking food. On the Iroquois side of things, their culture was built
upon respect, whether this was for the earth or for people. The Iroquois considered each lord in the
tribe family, this shows how the Iroquois embraces the value of family and how they treat everyone
with equality and respect. The Iroquois thrive on peace and unity within their society. The League of
Iroquois is a nation of 6 different Native American tribes, this shows how they were an excepting
people as long as they were treated with the same respect. The Iroquois involved the women greatly in
their society. The women had equal duties to the men and they elected the 50 peace chiefs which
headed the League of Iroquois. They had a stable democratic government, which highlights how the
Iroquois treated all people equally. The Puritans had a very enclosed society that was very self
centered. They also treated women with no respect and

Solar System Advantages
There are many different items that make up the solar system, and they are all classified very
differently. Two of the most important items in our solar system are the planets and the moons. They
differ in geologic activity, composition, interior structure, magnetic fields, and atmospheres. There are
multiple probe missions, both past and present, that support these concepts. There are physical factors
and characteristics that are important in determining the property of the items. In this paper, I will
discuss all of these topics as well as what benefits I think there are so studying other worlds as well as
the benefits I see to studying the solar system and why. The moon has no real atmosphere so there can
be no weatherly erosion, which is an issue some planets have. The atmosphere is basically comprised
of gases that surround the moon. The moon has an extremely low gravity and cools more rapidly than
some planets. It does not have any plate tectonics. The surface of the moon has been created from
years of impact by craters and volcanoes. The moon is often comprised of the crust, the mantle, and
the core. The moon is best observed through telescope observations, however; the moon has always
been subject to lunar landings, lunar samples, and orbiting space crafts. The moon has a very weak
magnetic field in comparison to planets such as the Earth. The moon does not have a dipolar magnetic
field. The crust is where most magnetization occurs. The first moon

Literature Review Anorexia
Effects caused by pro eating disorder online services on anorexia: A critical literature review. This
paper is a critical analysis of how research into pro anorexia websites effects is insufficient for
determining their influence on body dissatisfaction, dieting and anorexia nervosa (AN) disorder. These
unorthodox services have received outrage in recent New Zealand (NZ) news coverage because they
are seen to advocate engagement in eating disorder behaviour, and disengagement from professional
treatment (Hawkes, 2017). Anorexia nervosa is listed in DSM 5 as a Feeding and Eating Disorder
alongside bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013).
AN is characterised by symptoms that include dangerously low body weight, intense fear of fat or
weight gain, abnormal cognitions that lead to an over evaluation of the importance of body weight,
shape and size, indifference about the disorders seriousness (APA, 2013). It is a multi determined
psychiatric disorder with an interplay between sociocultural, biological, physical and mental factors
that make it extremely difficult to treat successfully (Chang Bazarova, 2016; Boraska et al., 2014). AN
affects approximately 3.7% of NZ population, the average duration is five years, with the highest
prevalent rate (10%) in teenage females (M = 17 years). While predominantly a young white middle
upper class female disorder, recent research shows a significant increase in diagnosis of males,

Segmentation and Target Market for Southwest Airlines
Segmentation and Target Market for Southwest Airlines Steven Garnes MKT/571 August 10, 2015
Denise A. Rueb Segmentation and Target Market for Southwest Airlines Introduction Southwest
Airlines was formed in 1967 by Rollin King and Herb Kelleher and started service in June of 1971.
The airline is headquartered in Dallas, Texas and originally operated flights within the state of Texas.
The company has since expanded and now operates flights from Dallas to almost all major cities in the
United States and is considered the largest low cost carrier in the country. Southwest seeks to offer a
travel product that is built around flights targeted to specific demographics and ticket pricing that is
simplified so that passengers know ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This business model has helped the company identify its target market and market segmentation.
Operating as a low cost carrier means the company is seeking to serve cost and value conscious
consumers, small business executives, and customers who are traveling short distances and prefer a
low cost fare. This is the first segment of its target market. The second segment includes families who
are value conscious, and senior citizens. Demographic Segmentation The target demographic for
Southwest is very broad. The fact the airline has a brand that appeals to price conscious travelers who
do not mind the airline s no frills philosophy means it attracts lots of small business owners, young
adults, middle class families, and those who are traveling a short distance. Southwest operates a
simplified airline to keep costs down. It only operates one type of aircraft, and its no frills plan
includes no assigned seats or class seating, no meals, and no onboard movies. The company has a
strong emphasis on customer service and a differentiation strategy to keep customers happy and loyal.
When hiring for customer service positions within the organization, Southwest focuses on attitudes
rather than skills and encourages peer hiring. This strategy helps the company identify those who fit
the organizational culture and who are most likely to further the company s philosophy of

  • 2. International Differences Of Well Being As I continued my research, Ruut Veenhoven stated this question in Chapter 11 of the book International Differences of Well Being the discussions centers on whether happiness is similar for all humans or rather something that varies across cultures (328). This question interests me, because it is a question that I think is very important. We all have a wide range of different priorities and values. First, he chooses to define happiness: I use the word happiness for a subjective state of mind, which I define as the overall appreciation of one s life as a whole. Happiness is the sum of pleasures and pains . Happiness in this sense is synonymous with life satisfaction and subjective well being (Veenhoven 329). Veenhoven, then, breaks up the questions How universal is happiness into sub questions because it is too broad to answer. Veenhoven says that, although the mood is something we are aware of it is mostly not in the foreground of our consciousness. President Nixon believed he was right in attempting to suppress the rights of the first amendment on the New York Times, this was a completely unjust move by President Nixon. Ultimately, the court ended up ruling in the New York Times favor which was the proper and correct thing to do. In 1967 Robert McNamara who was the secretary of defense, ordered a secret study to be done at the pentagon about the effects that the United States policies had on the Vietnam War. The study takes roughly 3 years and ends up being over two million words in length. Daniel Ellsberg who worked at the pentagon in the 1970 s ended up coming across the pentagon papers and was quite disturbed about its content. Part of people were blaming Romeo and Juliet (themselves) for their death. One of the causes that lead to Romeo and Juliet s death is the environmental factors (fate included). The power to change the way we design, manufacture our products, recycle and market it falls on the designers. Potentially, designers can make a significant contribution to this undertake by developing possible solutions that challenge precedents and demonstrate alternative possibilities. But to achieve this according to Stuart walker we will need to change design education and design practice and develop new understandings of product aesthetics and our notions of what can be called a good design. Stuart Walker went on to say, depending on whether we like it or not, within the discipline of industrial or product design industry, there is a major emphasis on product appearance, in both professional practice and design education, and it is this engrossment that, in many ways, renders Products aesthetics hollow and superficial. Primary and secondary adrenal insufficiency occurs in patients with sepsis and is associated with a poor outcome [68 71]. Blood oxidation affects the hypothalamo pituitary thyroidal axis, inactivating thyrotropine , thyroid gland hormones (triiodothyronine(TT3), thyroxine (TT4) and their binding proteins. Thyroid hormone regulates metabolism and has impact on sepsis prognosis. The level of TT4 is lower in patients with septic shock than in patients without septic shock [72 74]. De iodinations of iodothyronines play key roles in metabolic regulation [75, 76]. Vasopressin (Antidiuretic hormone) also is oxidized by the oxygen released from erythrocytes. Vasopressin plays a role in circulatory homeostasis and serum osmolality. Oxytocin and vasopressin are oxidized with formation of dityrosine [77]. Using the reaction stoicheometry, the moles were then converted into moles of chloride (product). Finally knowing the molecular weight of the product allowed to convert grams into moles. • 18. Right To Free Speech Persuasive Speech The right to free speech is one of the most precious rights an individual has as a citizen of the United States of America. This right gives people the opportunity to speak their mind and give their opinions of what they think should happen. These rights have been questioned and exercised throughout history, and have produced extremely positive things in a lot of cases. In modern times, people are always protesting something and in the colonial times it was the same. People wanted their voice to be heard and as long as it is done in a peaceful manner it is legal now, but it resulted in punishment for the colonists. People have never questioned whether or not these rights should exist, the questions involve whether there should be limits or not. No matter what side the authorities take, there are only two main points to deal with cyberstalking: free speech is an essential right, but it should not be meant to include hate speech. A system that tolerates hate speech is probably superior to the alternatives, but defenders of an absolute right can t pretend no one gets hurt. Epps (2014) suggested that free speech does do harm and it has to be defended: hate speech may be for individual members of minorities or other targeted groups, its toleration is to their great collective benefit. What Epps means is that hate speech can cause people harming themselves or most of them decide to end their lives. For example, this goes back to the boy name Roy that committed suicide after his girlfriend kept sending him multiple text messages, The judge said he did not take into account in his verdict Roy s previous suicide attempts (Truesdell, Pennington, Hanlon, 2017). What the writer seem to suggest might have been perceived as of how many times the boy tried to kill himself but failed until the last time he did it. Finally, Hate speech is often misunderstood because it can be classified as either careless or intentionally hurtful. Many people interpret careless statements as acts of aggression, but with good reason. It would be false to say that the freedom of speech has never been manipulated to inflict damage upon others. Questions have been risen of what hate speech is and if it should be allowed to be viewed by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Taxis is less or more automatic movement towards or away from a stimulus or direct movement. An example of taxis is when a plant is put by a windowsill. The plant grows towards the light. Another example is when stream fish automatically swim upward in the upstream direction. This example is considered positive taxis. This type of taxis allows the fish to swim in the direction of food and allows them to not be swept away. Kinesis is a simple change in activity or turning rate in response to a stimulus or random movement in response to stimulus. An example of kinesis is when sow bugs become more active in dry areas and less active in humid areas. Sow bugs does vary depending on humidity, however sow bugs do not move toward or away from suitable moisture levels. Both taxis and kinesis will guarantee that organisms will remain in environments that increase their chances of survival. When organisms are put into critical conditions its activities will decrease, although when an organism is put into positive conditions the organism will stay in that condition for the longest time possible. It, along with support of the majority of France, was instrumental in putting an end to the Ancien Regime. The Ancien Regime was the old order matriarchal way, and the people of France were tired of the control this absolute monarchy had over them. The French Revolution was a turning point in European history that would forever change the government of France. Not only were the citizens unhappy with their current government, but the majority were suffering from the economic crisis as the result of war. Forty years of wars in which France was involved had taken its toll on the economy. In addition to the drain on finances by war, the extravagant lifestyles of the aristocracy also drained France s treasury. Development Of The Vienna Secession Development of the Vienna Secession The establishment of the Viennese Secession in 1897 marked the genesis of modern art in Austria a nation at the time known for its strong holdings on conservative traditions and values. It was the first movement of artists and designers who were devoted to the renewal of art s meaning the projection of inner states of emotion. Led by Gustav Klimt, the Secession was the most influential breakaway; rejecting the revivalist styles endorsed by the conservative academies, the group promoted an art that would celebrity modernity. The Secession was largely attributed for the responsibility of the rise to international fame of several of its members, including Gustav Klimt, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Koloman Moser and Josef Hoffman, who helped Austrian art become renowned once again. There were no unifying characteristics between paintings or sculptures, or even architecture: instead, its members were committed to the ideal of modernizing Austrian art by acquainting it with latest modern art movements Art Nouveau, Post Impressionism and Expressionism. The initial movement was short lived. By 1905, there were internal divisions ultimately fracturing the group s monopoly on the scene for contemporary and decorative arts (Rosenman). • 44. Solar System Advantages There are many different items that make up the solar system, and they are all classified very differently. Two of the most important items in our solar system are the planets and the moons. They differ in geologic activity, composition, interior structure, magnetic fields, and atmospheres. There are multiple probe missions, both past and present, that support these concepts. There are physical factors and characteristics that are important in determining the property of the items. In this paper, I will discuss all of these topics as well as what benefits I think there are so studying other worlds as well as the benefits I see to studying the solar system and why. The moon has no real atmosphere so there can be no weatherly erosion, which is an issue some planets have. The atmosphere is basically comprised of gases that surround the moon. The moon has an extremely low gravity and cools more rapidly than some planets. It does not have any plate tectonics. The surface of the moon has been created from years of impact by craters and volcanoes. The moon is often comprised of the crust, the mantle, and the core. The moon is best observed through telescope observations, however; the moon has always been subject to lunar landings, lunar samples, and orbiting space crafts. The moon has a very weak magnetic field in comparison to planets such as the Earth. The moon does not have a dipolar magnetic field. The crust is where most magnetization occurs. The first moon ... This paper is a critical analysis of how research into pro anorexia websites effects is insufficient for determining their influence on body dissatisfaction, dieting and anorexia nervosa (AN) disorder. These unorthodox services have received outrage in recent New Zealand (NZ) news coverage because they are seen to advocate engagement in eating disorder behaviour, and disengagement from professional treatment (Hawkes, 2017). Anorexia nervosa is listed in DSM 5 as a Feeding and Eating Disorder alongside bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). AN is characterised by symptoms that include dangerously low body weight, intense fear of fat or weight gain, abnormal cognitions that lead to an over evaluation of the importance of body weight, shape and size, indifference about the disorders seriousness (APA, 2013). It is a multi determined psychiatric disorder with an interplay between sociocultural, biological, physical and mental factors that make it extremely difficult to treat successfully (Chang Bazarova, 2016; Boraska et al., 2014). AN affects approximately 3.7% of NZ population, the average duration is five years, with the highest prevalent rate (10%) in teenage females (M = 17 years). While predominantly a young white middle upper class female disorder, recent research shows a significant increase in diagnosis of males, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This business model has helped the company identify its target market and market segmentation. Operating as a low cost carrier means the company is seeking to serve cost and value conscious consumers, small business executives, and customers who are traveling short distances and prefer a low cost fare. This is the first segment of its target market. The second segment includes families who are value conscious, and senior citizens. Demographic Segmentation The target demographic for Southwest is very broad. The fact the airline has a brand that appeals to price conscious travelers who do not mind the airline s no frills philosophy means it attracts lots of small business owners, young adults, middle class families, and those who are traveling a short distance. Southwest operates a simplified airline to keep costs down. It only operates one type of aircraft, and its no frills plan includes no assigned seats or class seating, no meals, and no onboard movies. The company has a strong emphasis on customer service and a differentiation strategy to keep customers happy and loyal.
